Being Ghost's younger sibling (platonic)
Depending on the day I let Roach live in cannon or die since he isn’t in the 2022 game
Warning: there is mention of abuse because of simon’s backstory
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simon had a complicated relationship with his family, his blood family to be exact
He hated his father for being an abusive piece of shit, a monster instead of a man
His poor mother who took the brunt force of the abuse to try and lighten the blows for him and his brother
His brother who he had a complicated relationship with until it was mended with time
Once upon a time when Simon was younger, he had wished that they’d drop dead. Not just his father but the rest of them
It was a moment of weakness, one he had regretted even thinking of. For his father no, but for his mom and brother yes
He supposed that a fucked up wishing star granted it anyways
That day feels so vivid to him like a blur, just seeing flashes of something in his mind
What he remembers most is the red
Red that stained the corpses of his mom, Tommy, Beth and little Jospeh
When he remembers it it’s like seeing a black and white photo with only the red being in colour
That ugly colour staining them as he felt himself break
His family home, a place once filled with violence is once again stained with it
After that it’s blank, utterly blank as he assumed police and military showed up
What he remembers next is holding you while crying
A small baby swaddled in a cloth with your name etched into it
He had vaguely tempered his mom mentioning a surprise for him to see when he had the moment
You were it, the surprise his mother had been so excited to tell him of
Apparently his dad had shown up a few months back, and shoved you into her arms
His mother, being the kind woman she was took you in despite you not being her child
Tommy and Beth had been helping her raise you, Jospeh had even been excited to be a big brother (not understanding you’d be an aunt/uncle)
You were being kept a secret, they had been waiting for him to come home and meet you
It’s what had saved you that day, along with the fact his mom had put you to sleep for a small nap
It’s there in his shaking and sobbing arms that Simon meets you, his little half-sibling
Despite the fact he wants to be angry at your existence, at how your the bastard child of his dad he can’t
Your just an innocent child, you couldn’t choose your parents just like he couldn’t
And now your left with no one but him
And he’s left with only you as his remaining family
He takes you in
A broken man with no experience in this type of stuff, doing what he thinks is right cause he knows the childcare system is shit
For the first couple months and early years of your life Simon goes through a lot of trial and error
He feels afraid to ask others for help due to his paranoia of history repeating itself again
But eventually Simon is able to figure out what to do
He goes about raising you with care, something he’d only gotten from his mom. All the while fearing that he one day would become his father
He knows he never would, but it’s still a thought that plagues his mind as he puts you to bed
His once barren home is now filled with colour, a safe house with the bare necessities now decorated with memories like the sharpie ink on the doorway to show how much you’ve grown
He was never one for sappy shit but for stuff like that he goes soft, almost feeling as if parts of himself are being mended through you
Not healed per say, he doesn’t believe that anything could ever really help him process his trauma…but seeing you have a happy childhood helps him
During these first few years when he has to leave for missions he trusts you with his now retired friend Roach
Gary quickly becomes “uncle” Gary/Roach as he looks after you when he’s on duty
Ghost gets small texts from a burner phone every couple of days with a single word that has hidden meaning
A simple “good” would probably be fine but at this point Ghost is still extremely paranoid
When he gets back Gary tells him to lighten up a bit and he reluctantly does so
Ghost always feels relived after so much fighting and returning home to see you happy and running up to him (barely missing tripping over your own feet)
What surprises him though is when you call him dad after one of his returns
Even Roach doesn’t really expect it
Simon feels himself crumble at that, tears pooling in his eyes as he kneels down to hug you
He kinda just silently cries, his tears soaking up into his mask and smudging the inky black makeup around his eyes
He never forgets that moment, it’s just forever ingrained in his mind especially since he realized that you said that to him while he wore his mask
Your young child mind wasn’t afraid of him in his infamous skull mask like he had been when his brother used to terrorize him
No, you still recognized him as Simon, the man whom you thought to be your father
And that sticks with him
When you get to the age when you begin to develop interests and a more prominent personality he finds himself content
Your at an age where he can do more than just play and watch cartoons beside you
Simon 100% funds and encourages your interests whether that be drawing, sports or anything else that you find fun
Even if it’s not his thing he joins in with you or overlooks the activity, giving you encouragement and praise
He’d particularly be really engaged if you liked something more on the creative side
Since he can then hang it up on his walls in frames and it’s safe
He’d also feel really conceited since he has a small hobby of carving small wooden figurines
Which in this scenario he’d definitely show you how to make them
When you make your first one he’d definitely carry it with him on duty
A subtle reminder of you waiting home for him and that no matter the situation he has to get home
It’s also at this point in your life that he takes you places
If you mention you want to go to Disney, we’ll guess what he’s bought tickets and you guys are now taking an entire month off in California (not Florida though, he doesn’t trust that place)
He wants to make as many meaningful experiences he can for you due to the fact he’s gone so long
School is handled via online learning and private tutors due to the fact he lives far out in the country in a heavily secluded area where the rides to school would take at least a 2 hour bus drive and then some
He could move but he prefers the house to be a place that is hard to find
Due to this you don’t have many friends except for the careful few that Simon let’s know if your existence
Like Price, Laswell and of course uncle Roach
He trusts them enough to leave you with them during employment
But he especially leaves you with Kate and her wife since he thinks you need some women figures in your life
Not knowing that just having him is enough to you
He gets a small tattoo of something that he associates with you. Something like a nickname he gave you like bumblebee or blueberry
Yes his nickname’s are kinda random but their meaningful to him and have stories attached
He’d especially like if you have a nickname for him as well something like “boo” or “ghosty” since they associate with his call sign
When you transition into teenage hood that he gets assigned to 141
He realizes at this point that maybe he’s done a good job raising you until his self doubt begins to eat at him again
It happens to him in cycles as you grew up but now it hits harder when knowing you wouldn’t have a normal teenage experience because of him
You wouldn’t have a prom or parties due to his decision to live in the middle of butt fuck nowhere in the British countryside
But at the same time you’d be screwed if he sent you to school due to the fact you’d only done it online and have private teachers help you
And his mind begins a spiral which he doesn’t get your opinion on
It’s also at that point that Simon feels it’s time for you to know the truth
From this point he’d taught you about his mom, Tommy, Beth and Jospeh
But never the fact that he was your brother and not your dad
He expects you to be mad, and scream at him
A small part of him wants that to happen because he believes he deserves it
But that doesn’t happen since for a long while you knew, for months you knew
And maybe even before then
He asks why you never brought it up, why you still referred to him as dad despite knowing he wasn’t
And what you say makes him cry like the day when you initially called him dad
“Si, you may be my big brother but you’ve raised me as your own. There’s never been anyone else who’s been a father to me except you, and you’ve done a good job at it”
And like that day he found you he crumbles
And you let him cry as he hugs you, scared that if he let go for even a moment you’d disappear like sand through his fingers
Simon though he has his flaws and seems like a blank slate is someone who is made of compassion
He loves despite the fact he is afraid to be hurt once more
And when he loves someone he covets them more than his own life
Most do not know this but your the prime example of this
Because if it came down to it Simon would do anything to save you
Simon is a good brother and a great father despite what his own mind says to him

Ik people talk about the tragedy of the Spinjitzu family, but i mostly see it focused on Lloyd and Garmadon which isnt bad, but also you’re sleeping on the tragedy for Wu and the FSM.
FSM -> Was a dragoni child raised in constant war who had to choose between family. Probably was a child soldier himself if we’re being real honest. Chose none of them and ran away. Idk how you come out of that w/o trust issues.
Hell, the trust issues was implied with Nineko and the way he doesn’t tell his sons much. Why would he? To do that he needs to tell them about his past, which means trauma dumping on his kids. He’s emotionally constipated. Can’t say it but does love his sons and the land he created. He fights to defend it and despite his past, longs for a world where he doesn’t have to fight anymore. Longs for peace.
However, his eldest son is hit with a poison he can’t cure (probably due to the overlord’s interference now that i’m looking back on it.) but he does his best to find what he thinks may work. He helps him through his episodes and tells his sons where he thinks the cure may be. But it still ends in disaster.
Wu -> Raised with high expectations. Probably under a lot of stress to keep up. I’m thinking gifted child/burn out. Loved his father, looked up to him but unintentionally copies his father’s unhealthy coping mechanisms because he thinks his father is the best. Doesnt realise his father probably struggled with his own internal issues with trauma. Did therapy exist 1000 years ago? Probably not.
Anyway, he watches his brother fall victim to a poison and blames himself for it (ignoring the fact he was what. 9???) Makes a lot of mistakes (Aspheera) but tries his best to fit into the mould of expectations.
Probably represses a lot of emotions. Anyway, he goes on to watch his brother descend into darkness (watches him go for chen at some point) and fights along side him for ninjago until suddenly he’s fighting alone against his brother after his friends in the elemental alliance slowly leave.
He falls in love, but shes also someone his brother loves. His brother marries her and he tries to move on. He raises Morro until morro leaves.
At this point, he’s lost his brother, father, friends and now a boy he raised. Then he gets a nephew only to find said nephew has to fight his father.

Behind a cut so people don’t have to see me rant about my disabled, emotionally abusive dad.
So my dad fell twice in the last five days due to not listening to me and mom. He has Parkinson’s and if you dig through my posts you’ll see me talk about it, so I won’t go into it.
I don’t hate disabled people, just him. I don’t hate him for having Parkinson’s, I hate him for the abuse he inflicted on me and still inflicts on me with his disability as a crutch to get away with it. And I call out ableism when the problems we have with him are caused by the medical care system, because sometimes it’s not his fault.
But THIS situation IS his fault.
SO ANYWAY…
Last Friday, he fell because he wouldn’t stop rocking sideways every time he got up. He gets up with help and uses a walker, but he throws his weight around when he knows me and mom are two tiny women compared to a hulking huge man.
And he fell.
We had to call my aunt and uncle over to get his ass off the damn floor and onto his toilet commode so he could take a shit. Then they got him into bed. He claimed he was fine, and then on Tuesday he started griping that his lower back and buttcheek hurt on the left side. But he could walk and didn’t complain much after the initial gripe.
Today, he was all scrunched up in bed in a way that guarantees his back will hurt and made his pain worse, like I told him it would (and he wouldn’t listen to me).
Mom took him out into the living room and he fell on the way, AGAIN, because he kept rocking his weight around.
Now get this, he doesn’t throw his weight like that when therapists would come over. Dad will be an angel for them, but a nightmare for me and mom. He cooperates for professionals, but not family. He does everything in his power to make life as hard as possible for me and mom. I’m not kidding when I say that.
He goes to the doctor on Monday to find out what the fuck he did to himself, but it’s going to be a nightmare.
My birthday is coming up and of COURSE he does this right before it, and ruins any excitement I had.
Before you attack me for that, keep in mind that he pulls shit like this all the time. He knows everyone will be sympathetic to him while looking at mom and me like we’re evil for being exhausted, angry and burnt out.
The fact that we can’t afford to put him anywhere or get help into this house means we have no lives outside of caregiving. Every waking moment until we sleep is him and all his emotionally abusive bullshit, every day with no breaks, forever. He has ruined holidays, birthdays and plans because his only joy in life is making everyone around him as miserable as he is.
I’ve managed to eke out a few moments of joy here and there, but for the most part my life is a slog that never ends.
I laugh at the people who acted like COVID lockdowns were depriving them of life. I won’t deny that it was a traumatic experience, and this is not aimed at people who got sick anyway and now have long covid. This ain’t you, don’t worry.
But the people who acted so inconvenienced that their social lives got interrupted? Fuck off.
I’ve lived something like the COVID lockdowns for over a decade. No life outside of my house, no life outside of being a caregiver for someone who is sucking away all my compassion and love.
I can’t leave because I’m disabled too and all the legal shit is inaccessible to me.
I’m trapped, mom is trapped, and we are eventually going to die from the stress while he sits there yelling at us for not jumping to his every whim.
My only escape is writing fanfics and staring dead-eyed at my ipad screen, interrupted constantly by him demanding things.
I have accumulated so much trauma from him, and COVID, and mom having medical crises that were resolved, and my needs not being met, that I’ll be surprised to see 45. I will be shocked if I wake up alive on my 45th birthday.
I turn 43 this July 29, 2023, so yeah.
If I don’t die, my mom is going to, and if she goes we’re all dead.
I just hope I go first. Either heart attack or stroke will probably do it, but I don’t want to outlive her and be alone with him.
No child should be trapped as a caregiver for a disabled abusive parent, but it happens and nobody talks about it.

jinx headcanons i rlly wanna post 💣💫🔫☁️💀⚡️⚔️
Tumblr media
• jinx actually likes chuck/theriam but no one can tell if she actually does or if she’s just being malicious lmao
•has bpd, adhd, c-ptsd, and sleep paralysis (poor girl)
•11-12 in the first act and like 18-19 in act 2 and 3
• has tried dating but it’s never worked and stopped trying once she turned like 16 or 17
• i think she’s scared of getting intimate with people she could hurt
• bi because i Said So
• she can't go to sleep unless there's music playing
• ‘get jinxed’ is a song in the arcane universe, and took inspiration from jinx herself, after being nearly killed trying to destroy a shimmer shipment
• doesn’t like alcohol (but silco wouldn’t let her drink anyway)
• jinx chooses not to make friends in fear of killing them, notice how spends so much time by herself
• jinx wanted ekko to survive the explosion- she could have easily pinned the bomb on him
• jinx knew who the firelight leader was but she never told silco- whether she wanted to let ekko live, or she wanted to be able to kill him herself, no one knows (personally i think the latter- notice how angry she looks at him in ep4!)
• also she used to have a crush on ekko
• had he survived, she and mylo would have bonded over feeling overlooked by vander
• jinx tries to climb as high as she possibly can and just. sits there doing whatever and hanging out sometimes. just to prove she can do it now
• jinx also leaves vi a present for every holiday. nobody knows how she’s getting the addresses but she does send her a genuine gift every time, and there’s very rarely a catch or twist to
• hanging out in benzo's shop with ekko, is where she learned to differentiate between what's valuable and what is not and that's why vi trusted her with that
• she only ever wanted to be useful to the people she loves- act 1: “i can help them/i only wanted to help!” as jinx: doesn’t care abt the shimmer business, but she’s do anything to be helpful to silco
• powder was already suffering from mental illness and inferiority complex (the latter mostly because of mylo) before everything that happened. you can see it in the way she bases her self-worth on how useful she is to the group, and also her breakdown when vi told her to stay back. the explosion is what ultimately caused her downward spiral, but she showed symptoms of mental illness prior to it
• powder was already a cruel and deranged girl, shown by her infatuation with weaponry and building weapons to kill- like her nail bombs
• speaking of, her infatuation with explosives began as an interest in gunsmithing (mostly out of a misguided belief that a gun could have saved her parents) that never amounted to anything but a mess of split barrels and burnt hand carved grips before vi convinced her to try skipping the middle step and make straight up explosives. after those didn't work either is when mylo started to call her a jinx
• she likes explosions because the ringing in her ears drowns out the voices in her head
•her blue smoke tattoos are a cry for help to vi- she never set off the flare so her other way of setting it off was to get the tattoos •silco braids jinx's hair whenever it grows too long. it's like meditation for him and allows him to reassess the world about him as he washes, combs and weaves her ever lengthening hair and admire the perfection that is his loving, growing daughter •this is the only time jinx allows her guard down around others. it's the only time that she can close her eyes and yet not hear the voices of her demons without loud music or explosions to drown them out
• jinx/powder are not anyone different. jinx is what powder would become anyway + mental issues due to her past. she would always be the cruel, chaotic, bomb mechanic girl. of course she would be better mentally if she didnt have her traumas and had a healthy enviroment but she is who she is.
• so powder is not gone, she just grew up. "jinx" is just her way to deal with her traumas, which clearly is not working well. this dealing method was told her by silco who believes he was reborn or something, leaving his weak past behind. "jinx" is an attempt of doing that but it doesnt work because their traumas are not the same as silco thinks so.
anyways that’s all for now I’ll prob add more later but I need a nap so bye y’all cya <3

So this is my first time writing anything on Tumblr so please bear with me while I try and figure out how this app works lol. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I’m probably going to do another part of this with other Batman characters (when I get to know more characters that is. I only just recently got into DC and Batman in general so my knowledge is either pretty basic or not a lot). Anyways, without further ado, this is how I imagine the Batfam’s hugs would be or feel like while they hug the reader. Let’s start with an individual who’s most likely to actually hug someone, and that’s…
Alfred Pennyworth
Let’s face it, the man is the kindest one there is. Aside from another character that I’ll get to next, he is the most likely to hug you. I imagine his hugs to be as warm as the biggest and fluffiest blanket. If you were sad, he’d definitely be the first one to comfort you, and once he knows you’re stable, he would make sure your comfort food is stalked up for whenever you're hungry. If you’re not much of a hugger, or not you just need to be left alone for a bit to figure things out on your own, he would still be there to comfort you, but from a distance until you’re ready and approach him first. He won’t hesitate to comfort you, in any way that he can.
Dick Grayson
This boy would hug the actual life out of you when you're sad. It’s just going to happen. For your sake, let’s hope you’re also a huge hugger, because there’s nothing Dick hates more than seeing someone upset and hurting. His hugs will most likely just happen out of nowhere, and it will be instinct for him. Like one single tear falling, lip trembling, and or head tilting downward, he’ll just react and hold you close. Even with the slightest silent or non-silent reaction from you, and he’ll just assume something isn’t right, and being the caring, kind and good guy he is, he’ll be there to support you in any way he can be. He wants you to know that he’s in your corner, wherever and whenever you need him, and he does that through physical touch, but sometimes his obsessive affection can be very overbearing and a bit much. Just know that he loves and cares about you, and wants the best for you, and just wants to be there for you.
Bruce Wayne
Bruce is probably one of the last people to want to hug you, let’s be real here. Hugs and comforting people are extremely hard for him due to his traumas and constantly pushing people away. He doesn’t hug a lot of people, generally others have to be the ones to initiate it first because he won’t. He’ll definitely notice when something is wrong or when someone is sad, he is the world’s greatest detective after all, but he’ll feel awkward and maybe even uncomfortable at the thought of hugging someone, but after some urging from Alfred and perhaps Dick, he’ll come around. His hugs will most likely be tight, and stiff, as he’s unsure if he’s even doing it right, but the sentiment is there, and it’s sweet that he’s trying to comfort you anyway, even if he doesn’t know exactly how.
Tim Drake
This boy will either hug you in two ways.
1) He’ll be so sleep-deprived that he’ll just cling to you so willingly and fall asleep, or 2) he’ll be in such a rush to get work done that the hug feels forced and honestly, a bit unpleasant because there’s no equal participation. It’s not exactly his fault. Tim is naturally a workaholic, and feels the need to prove himself worthy of being apart of the family. He doesn’t dislike hugs, he just hasn’t ever really experienced them much, and doesn’t have much experience on how to hug correctly. The boy’s a genius, but his knowledge of doing such a normal humane part of life is extremely low. Your best bet is to get him off the laptop, and teach him how to hug and if he happens to be sleep-deprived, it’s best to hug him until he falls asleep because chances are, that’s the first time in awhile he’s actually rested at all.
Jason Todd
Jason, I imagine, is a strange and even unexpected case. Like Tim, he’s never really had many hugs. Given this, he’s very inexperienced, but I also imagine that he’s extremely touch-starved, but that part is secret, because he had a reputation to uphold. The one day you came to him needing a hug, it surprised you how tight he held you against him. How willing he let you hug him, and how he willingly hugged you back, almost like he needed it as much as you did. After that day, you decided to test him, and went around randomly hugging him to see how he would hug you every time, and he hugged you with pretty much the same level of tightness and gentleness as the first time. It was a relief really seeing how much he has grown and how he let those high walls drop, letting his vulnerable side show, and you were proud of him for letting it.
(Older) Damian Wayne
Damian is another example of Jason and Tim’s hugging inexperience. Seriously, somebody needs to hug these guys more often. (A/N I volunteer as tribute!!)
Anyways. Back to little Dami here. Damian has only ever known hatred, violence, and murder, so obviously he has never known about love or affection. The first time you ever hugged him, he accidentally punched you, because he wasn’t expecting it. You knew he didn't mean to, so anytime you went to hug him, you warned and/or asked him first. Eventually, he allowed you to hug him, mostly out of courtesy for you (also after Alfred insisted he’d tried to let his guard down and let people love him). I imagine his hugs to be extremely stiff, almost like if you tried to hug a cat who was not at all affectionate. It would no doubt take awhile for him to warm up to hugs, so it would be best to just give him a bit of affection a little at a time, because once you scare him away, all the progress would have been in vain. Even if he doesn't want to admit it, he actually doesn’t hate hugs, but he would never say that, ever, and it would be wise not to tease him about it because that would be how he gets scared away from it. It would be rare that he would ever come to you for comfort, but I can’t imagine it would be impossible. An example of him coming to you for comfort is if he was having problems with his father, or his brothers, or if something would happen to all of his plethora of pets. Also if he watched a sad movie of an animal dying. Other than that, the chances of him running to you for comfort would be rare, so hold him close if he lets you, because he most likely won’t let his guard down to let you do it again.
So, how do you guys think I did? I hope it was somewhat accurate to their characters. If anyone has any advice for writing the Batfam characters, please let me know! I imagine that these were more if the reader hugged these characters romantically (excluding from Alfred, ofc), but I’ll let you guys decide for yourselves. Again I might make a part 2, but with some other characters (I’m thinking platonic for the girls, Barbara, Stephanie and Cassandra, but I’ll have to do a bit more research on them before I’d try to write one of these for them, as I would hate to accidentally screw up their character, I’m really not confident that I did these guys well but too late now).  I also want to try to make platonic Batsis and Batmom content at some point, because I think it’s fun to mix stuff up then just writing romantic x reader content, but that will probably be a bit before I try to tackle that. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed and have a great rest of your day, evening, afternoon, whatever time you're reading this. I’ll see you next time :)

☾ Author's note ➼ brb I'm sobbing. Mainly because look at my little characters and my story... I DID THAT. But also, because I actually finished something. Can y'all believe that?? Anyways. I hope you all like this chapter and I hope y'all enjoyed my story as a whole. I had a lot of fun thinking up this little world. I'm sure I have places where I can improve but considering this was my first fanfic in like, 10 years?? I'm taking it as win. Thank you to anyone who has spent their actual time to read my delusions, I appreciate y'all so much. I couldn't have finished without the support of my friends, moots, and you, my readers. Okay that's enough being mushy. I'm gonna go watch One Piece now. See y'all around hehe :3
☾ Word Count ➼ ~8.5k
Tumblr media
The first thing you’re greeted with the moment you stir awake is the smell of clean laundry laced with traces of pine. The sound of seagulls squawking away in the distance comes muffled through Levi’s bedroom windows and you can feel the gentle morning sun that filters through caressing your skin. You keep your eyes closed, reveling in the moment of peace you find yourself in.
As each of your senses wake up with you, you can’t help but smile softly into the raven hair tickling your face from underneath. Levi is fully tangled with you and the sheets, legs sprawled all over the bed. His strong arms wrap around your waist and hold you close as he breathes deeply into your chest, the warmth of his body begging you to fall back asleep. You lift your hand and delicately rake your fingers through his soft hair, but he doesn’t rouse. He’s dead to the world in your arms.
The memories of the night before pop into your mind slowly like bubbles rising in the ocean – none of them unpleasant. Levi made sure to clean you up before dressing you in one of his shirts and pulling you into the bed with him for the night. Not much was said during this but as always, there never was any need for words between the two of you. His intentions all night were clear.
The phantom pressure of Levi’s lips on yours sends warmth up into your cheeks. You were not expecting an outcome like this, yet you were not disappointed in the slightest. Flashbacks to the things he did to you fly through your mind and you can’t help as your legs shift under the sheets at the thoughts.
“Mm?” You hear from your sleepy companion.
You allow your eyes to flutter open, having to squint initially at the pale light pouring in through the glass – the sun just broke through the horizon. You can tell it will be another beautiful day out just from the sight of the fluffy white clouds that drift lazily in the orange sky.
You attempt to pull away to sign something but it’s of no use as Levi only tightens his arms around you and pushes his face more into your plush chest. Your face was already warm enough, but this ensured it would not go away any time soon. A small, amused huff escapes your lips, nevertheless.
“No.” Levi mumbles against you. His voice is thick with sleep.
You nuzzle into his hair with a smile as you’re not sure what else to do at the moment. You needed to get up before Hange or Erwin did, but you weren’t ready to say goodbye to this haven you both created – and neither was Levi.
“Don’t leave… want you to stay.”
You like this sleepy and clingy Levi, another version of him that you feel must be reserved just for you. You place small kisses on the top of his head in response, holding him closer into your chest as you do. There’s a heavy sigh from him, a telling one that sounds content. His warm hands slide under your shirt and up your back as he continues to hold on to you for dear life. Your blinks start to slow and suddenly you’re drifting off again.
You’re not certain how long you were out, but the next time your eyes open, the light trickling through the windows is brighter. Your arms still wrap around Levi, this time around his chest as you rested on your side and he on his back. An arm circles your waist, holding you close, with his hand sitting gently on your hip. You don’t know how you both moved so drastically, but you still appreciate it because now you can see Levi’s sleepy face.
His porcelain skin contrasts greatly with his tousled hair, miles away from his usual style and yet one of your favorites on him by far. Dark, long lashes sit on his soft cheeks and his pale-pink lips form into a small pout. He’s so at peace when he sleeps, leaving you wondering what he might be dreaming about. You hope it’s full of nothing but good things.
Slowly, you pull your hand up and trail your fingers down the side of Levi’s face, feeling the slight roughness of his stubble poking into your skin as they pass. His eyes don’t open but you can tell with the shift in his breathing, he’s waking up again.
You hook a finger around his chin and tug it down gently so that you can see his sleepy face better. Dark gray eyes open in slow blinks, staring into yours. Pulling his chin down more, you press your lips onto his, your movements slow and lazy and with little urgency. It sends tingles down your spine and into your toes – something you believe you won’t ever get used to.
When you pull away, Levi’s quick to place his hand on the side of your face to hold you still so that he can steal one more kiss. His fingers then tuck away rogue strands of your hair behind your ear before running his thumb across your bottom lip which is now pulled into a smile.
“How do you get more beautiful every time I see you?” He whispers down to you, voice husky from sleep.
You respond back with an eye roll and a shrug, but his words echo in your mind. You stare as his soft skin glows in the warm, morning sun. He’s one to talk, you think. Levi trills his lips as he exhales heavily, pulling you more into him with his arm.
You take this opportunity to place your free arm around his stomach and rest your head against his warm chest, the steady rhythm of his heart reverberating through your skull. Leaning down, he places a gentle kiss on the top of your head. His lips linger against your scalp as he talks, coming muffled through your hair. It tickles.
“I suspect the idiots will be up soon if they aren’t already.”
As if on cue, you hear the faint clinking of metal out in the kitchen. Someone was up and working on getting breakfast ready. A sinking feeling comes with the realization that you would have to face your sister and Erwin about last night. You pull away slowly, sitting up so that both hands are free to sign then turning towards Levi. He shoots you a subtle pout at the absence of your body, and you don’t stop the soft laugh that escapes you.
‘What do we tell them?’
“We don’t have to tell them anything.” He sits up on his elbows and furrows his brows, a steely resolve deep seated in his gaze.
‘They’re going to ask questions.’
“You don’t have to answer anything.” He reiterates. “We can just go out there and ignore them.”
‘You know Hange, that won’t-‘ Levi reaches over with one hand and closes it over your moving fingers, making you stop. His hand then trails up your forearm before wrapping his fingers around it and pulling you down – making you collapse onto his bare chest. He then wraps his arms around you and holds you in a vice grip, despite your silent giggles and squirming.
“I’ll handle it. But let’s get you some pants, first.”
.
The moment you step out of the bedroom, the smell of cooked bacon hits you full force. Hange and Erwin are in the middle of talking as they stand by the stove, turning to look at your already flustered face at the sound of the door opening. You take a few steps out of Levi’s room and sheepishly wave at them. Erwin raises an eyebrow but Hange, on the other hand, drops the spatula they were loosely gripping. It falls into the pan of cooking meat, splattering oil everywhere.
“Whaaaaaat??!” Hange runs over to you with bugged eyes, leaving Erwin to clean up the oil splatter before it starts a fire. Their hands reach up and cup your cheeks, squishing your face in the process as they squeal more.
“I was wondering where you’ve been! Canoodling with Levi was not my first thought, I admit.” Your face begins to heat up more in embarrassment. You knew this was inevitable, but you were still not prepared in the slightest. Levi brushes past you and Hange towards the kitchen but Hange shoots a hand out and grabs him by the arm, their other hand still against your face.
“Oh no you don’t, we’re talking about this!”
“Let go of me, four-eyes.” Levi demands.
“Hange, they just got up. Give them a moment.” You hear Erwin muse from behind your sister. You flash him a look of gratitude as Hange drops both hands and sets you and Levi free with a huff.
Erwin had outdone himself with the feast he prepared for everyone. Crispy bacon, fluffy eggs, and bouncy pancakes. But despite the delicious food, the palpable awkward silence and dense tension that followed was stronger. You ignore the burning stare aimed directly at the top of your head as you dug into your plate, knowing full well it was from Hange. The only noises that filled the space were the clattering of utensils and soft chewing of food.
It doesn’t go unnoticed how Levi chose to sit next to you this time, something he hadn’t done prior to this morning. You dare to look up for a second in his direction, catching his eye as he sips his morning tea. There’s a small smirk pulling up the corners of his mouth as he looks away and back to his breakfast.
“I can’t believe the festival is tonight. This trip has gone by so quickly, don’t you think?” Erwin pipes up after wiping his mouth carefully with a napkin.
“Did you both make up?” Hange blurts out.
“Hange, come on.” Erwin gives them an exasperated glare.
“I deserve to know. She was so upset yesterday and now she’s not and I need to make sure they’re okay!”
When you look back up to your sister, you can tell right away they are bursting at the seams. Eyes wide, face almost purple, and their fingers clenching their fork so tightly the knuckles turn white. Not much has been eaten off their plate, which shakes gently from their knee bouncing under the table. With a heavy sigh, you lean back in your chair and glance over to Levi. There’s a brief pause as he considers it, but then he nods ever so slightly.
“What do you want to know?” He grumbles, arms folded over his chest as he also leans back.
“Are you both on good terms now? Did you sleep together? How was it? Were you safe? You know, I have a whole bag of condoms in my bag if you need more!” Hange’s eyes bulge out of their face with every question, and you feel your face heat up more than it already was. You sink down in your seat further and hide your face behind both hands. Of course, Hange would go straight to those questions.
“Yes. Pass. None of your business. I do not need to know that and why do you even have that many?”
“Just in case! You never know.” Hange picks up their fork and shoves a bite of pancakes in their mouth before talking again, voice muffled. “You can’t answer the questions like that, Levi! Be serious.”
“I have nothing else to give you. It’s none of your business.” Levi shrugs as he goes for another sip of his tea.
“Fine, I’ll ask my sister. She can’t say no to me.” You feel something hit your shin under the table and you jump up with a squeak. Peeking through your fingers, you see them staring hard at you.
“Spill.”
Hange was right. You were bad at hiding things from your sister. Eventually you always relent. Like the time at the spa, or the day after the ball so many months ago. But this time, you find yourself not wanting to share. It was your memory to keep, and you didn’t want anyone else to know. Your fingers clenched into fists as you think about what you want to say, Hange’s stare burning holes in your face the whole time.
“Oi, would you leave my girlfriend alone and let her finish her breakfast first?” Levi sighs as he pokes his fork into the last of his eggs. Hange chokes on their water.
Your head whips in his direction at his words, but he’s staring out towards the ocean with his mouth moving slowly as he chews. Girlfriend. You and Levi didn’t discuss what last night meant for the relationship. After everything, you were sure there was more to you and him than just friends. But to say that term so brazenly… it gives you goosebumps.
“Gir-?!” Hange starts out but is then cut off by Erwin, thankfully.
“The weather looks like it will be nice all day, so we need to make sure we dress appropriately. Look at all of these activities. According to this article, the fireworks display is the best show on this side of the coast.”
Your eyes shift over to his blue gaze, which peeks above his phone that he was scrolling on. You mouth a thank you and he winks back before going back to the webpage he was reading off. You feel Levi’s hand reach over from under the table and squeeze your thigh gently, his attention still on the ocean.
Girlfriend.
You liked that.
.
After that morning, you had all gotten dressed and ready to celebrate what the town had been preparing for all week – the summer festival. It was like if you had taken the energy from the past few days and then combined them all into one night and multiplied that by ten. The streets were crowded all day and straight into the evening, only getting more intense as the night went on. Sometimes Hange and Erwin would break off from you two and you don’t know if it was intentional or not, but you were grateful for it regardless.
With everything so new, you weren’t sure how Levi felt about PDA outside of leading each other where to go, but as always, he answered that for you. He wasn’t shy about taking your hand and lacing his fingers in with yours. Nor did he hesitate to grab your waist and pull you into him while walking or waiting in line for something. It felt as if he wasn’t letting anything get in the way of what he wanted anymore.
As sunset approaches, you and Levi meet up with the rest of the group at the beach where people were preparing paper lanterns. According to Erwin, Liberio’s lantern release is one of the main attractions for their summer festival, right next to the fireworks show which took place about an hour after. You’ve never taken part in anything like this before, so you were very excited.
When you and Levi step up to the table that your sister and Erwin were standing around, you notice that they’re writing something on the sides of their lantern in black marker. You can’t make out what it says, so you tap your hyper focused sister on the shoulder to get their attention. They turn to you with bright eyes and an even brighter smile.
“There you are, my little strawberry! You better hurry up and get your lantern, it’s almost time.” They jerk their head backward towards the shoreline and you look over to see people standing with their lanterns lit as they chat away in wait.
‘What are you writing?’
“The locals say to write your wishes and dreams for the future. They say that once you release them, they fly into the sky and the gods above pluck them up and grant them when the time is right. Isn’t that fascinating?? And get this! I had to ask around but they’re biodegradable! A lot of people were a little offended that I asked, and I think it has to do with them really believing they got plucked out of the skies! How silly of them, but who am I to tell them otherwise.” Hange looks like they’re having one of the best days of their life and you just smile back. They reach over to ruffle your hair before going back to the paragraph they were writing on their lantern.
Looking over to Erwin, you notice he had written a singular line, but of course you can’t make it out. He stands tall, lantern in hands, as he stares out to the setting sun. His blue eyes trail over to you before smiling at you softly, the sea breeze blowing through his fine hair.
“This place is quite lovely, don’t you agree?” He asks.
Nodding back, you hum in agreement. Despite the intense moments, you can’t help but feel grateful for this trip and everything that accumulated to get you to where you are now. If it meant going through the anxieties of the unknowns to get here, you would do it all over again.
Levi says your name and when you turn in his direction, you notice he’s holding out a blank lantern. Golden hour is in full swing as it casts soft shadows on him, highlighting the sharp angles on face. There's a glint of something in his eyes as he watches you, though the rest of his expression gives nonchalance.
‘Thank you.’ You sign before taking the lantern and marker from his hands, your fingers lightly brushing against his as you do.
“Hm.” He picks up his own lantern from the table and scrawls something on it as he uses his hand to block you from seeing it. You force yourself not to pry though it killed you to not know what was on his mind. You figure he might tell you what he asked for later down the road. As for yours though, you write what you hoped wouldn’t be a one-time thing.
More days like this one, forever and ever. With the ones I love so dearly.
When you look up in satisfaction at your wish, you notice your friends staring back at you with what you can only assume is love in their own way. A sense of warmth lights through your veins like the sunshine on your face and you find yourself smiling so brightly that it scrunches your eyes and hurts your cheeks.
As Levi steps away from the table, he holds his hand out to you – his own version of a smile tugging on his lips as he waits for you. Fingers clasping over his as you secure your wishes in the other hand, you’re led down to the shoreline with everyone else.
You never saw it even as he released it above him, but if you did you would have seen that Levi’s lantern had one simple sentence. Something so full of conviction and confidence, written in neat letters so that if there were gods, they would be able to see it so easily and hopefully grant it without hesitation.
To spend the rest of my life with her.
That night, you didn’t fully intend to return to Levi’s room but as you passed by it on the way to your own, his arm had shot out and latched around your wrist to hold you there. He didn’t offer much in terms of words, but it was there in his metallic eyes. Unspoken.
Stay.
So, you did. And that night after, when you were all spent from your last day at the beach and Liberio as a whole, Levi didn’t even have to ask, nor did you have to look at him to know. You followed him like you always would as long as he wanted you to, right to his bed and straight into his arms.
.
Before you know it, you’re on the long flight back home with soft music flowing through your earbuds. You watch as the early morning clouds float by from down below, casting various shadows on the dark blue water of the ocean underneath. Your head sinks into the stuffed strawberry that sits sandwiched between you and the wall of the plane. Your hands, however, find themselves preoccupied in Levi’s fingers. Levi is half-asleep with his head resting against your shoulder, his warm breath tickling the skin that is exposed from your tank top.
You always assumed he didn’t sleep much, so to see him pass out so easily as he held onto you was a welcome surprise. In the past few days, Levi’s energy had shifted. It was different and you couldn’t explain how, but it was there albeit subtle. Those prominent dark circles under his eyes were still there, but they didn’t cut into his skin like they used to. And his ever-present scowl rarely made an appearance, at least from what you saw.
Erwin and Hange saw it too. They didn’t say anything, but you could tell Hange was just begging to say something to Levi.
“When are you two getting married?” Your sister had joked to you while you were both waiting in the security line at the airport.
At that time, you rolled your eyes at it. It’s not like it wasn’t on your mind, since they were the ones that brought it up in the first place. But now, it felt so real. There was an actual chance for it.
To be honest, you never gave much thought to settling down with someone. The language barrier proved difficult for the very few suitors you’ve had in your life, and they were always gone before you knew what happened. So, the prospect of marriage wasn’t something you thought to worry about.
Then Levi came back into your life.
Levi cared for you in ways that no one else did. Levi was patient and put in the work for you instead of adapting to what was. You never had to ask with him – he just knew. And as always, he made everything easy.
Without looking over, you gently squeeze his hand a few times. A few seconds pass and you think he might be in a deeper sleep than you thought, but eventually his fingers reciprocate with the same pressure and your smile reflects back at you from the window.
Even though Levi had promised he wouldn’t leave, you still hope that whatever life had in store for you that he would indeed be a part of it for as long as you lived.
.
About a week had gone by since the small plane touched back down into Jinae’s local airport. Hange hit the ground running, staying at the lab late at night to catch up on what they missed. Erwin and Levi were quick to get the café back up and it was surprisingly busy – a lot of regulars equally worried and interested to hear about where they’d been for the last week. And whenever Levi wasn’t at work, he was with you.
While making dinner together at your apartment one night, Levi threw out the suggestion of going to see his mom with him sometime over the weekend. You hadn’t seen her since before you both had left for Liberio, so you were eager to accept the offer. Whether it was your quick response to going or the genuine smile that graced your soft lips as you were signing away about how excited you were to see her again, Levi found himself pulling you away from the lettuce you were chopping and into his arms before kissing you so deeply that you saw stars.
You never knew, but Levi’s brain clicked, and a decision was made right then and there.
When Saturday comes around, Levi swings by the apartment to pick you up that afternoon. You had offered to drive but he was quick to decline and that was that. You won’t complain though, you liked watching him from the passenger seat. The way his bottom lip would jut out in focus, how his eyes would flicker between each mirror every once in a while. His hand resting against your thigh and squeezing it gently.
After pulling into a space at the front of Riverside, Levi puts the car in park and glances over to you. In both hands, you hold a large bouquet of flowers that you had picked out specifically for Kuchel. Giving them a big sniff, you gaze over to Levi with a smile.
“She’s going to love them.” He says as he reaches over to touch your face softly. You don’t hesitate to lean into his warmth. “Ready?”
You nod before unbuckling yourself and sliding out of the passenger seat. Levi does the same and makes his way to your side, his fingers finding your hand as he locks the car with a few clicks of the key fob. His thumb rubs against the side of your palm while he leads you through the wide doors and into the facility.
According to the staff, it was a really good day for Kuchel. A fleeting thought of what a bad day might look like flashes through your mind, but you’re quick to shake it aside. Levi guides you down a couple of different cozy hallways that lead to the side of the building that held the patient’s living suites.
Like the hallways that led to the outside courtyard, the ones you walk down are just the same. Various acrylic paintings pass by in colorful blurs as your hands fidget with the plastic that holds the bouquet together. Even before Levi had warned you that his mom might have trouble remembering you, anxiety gnawed at you. The need to be liked by someone so important to Levi was ever present. He glances over to you at the crinkling of plastic and squeezes your hand a few times in reassurance.
Eventually, Levi stops in front of a white door with a hanging sign decorated with various colorful flowers and a cursive letter A in the middle. He knocks gently and through the heavy wood, you hear a muffled ‘Come in!’
When he opens the door, your mouth opens slightly in surprise.
Kuchel’s room looked as if it was taken out of a Victorian cottage catalog. For a moment, you forget that you’re in a medical facility as you take a few steps into the room – Levi closing the door behind the two of you once past the door frame.
First, you notice the soft bed on the right side of the room, fitted with tan sheets adorned with floral patterns. There are a few decorative pillows propped up against the backboard. Along the walls are sketches of people that are too small to make out, but from what you can see they are drawn beautifully well. The window in the far back is wide open, letting in the afternoon summer breeze that makes the sage green curtains dance on each side. A dresser sits under the sill that houses a couple bottles of what you think might be perfume and a few glass trinkets.
Then your eyes drift over a pale woman in the corner of the room.
Kuchel is sitting in a plush lounge chair with her feet up on an ottoman, a charcoal pencil between fingers and she’s sketching away on a pad. Her dark eyes snap up from her paper as you walk in, greeting you both with a big smile. Carefully, she places her things on the table next to her and pushes herself up from the chair, the leather squeaking at the shift in weight.
“My little Levi.” She sighs happily.
“You don’t need to get up.” Levi scolds as he walks over to help her. She’s frailer than you remember her being, but her eyes and smile remain the same – bright and full of life. She wraps her arms around Levi and holds him close as she mumbles how it’s been a while since he last came to visit. He pulls away and gives her a smile, but there’s sadness in his eyes. You know that she was the first stop for him when he got home about a week ago.
“I’ve heard you’ve been drawing again.” He says, craning his neck to the sketch she was working on. An eyebrow raises at it and then his gaze flickers over to you.
“Mom, I don’t know if you remember…” He holds his hand out for you to take as he calls your name.
Kuchel turns her attention to you now, and at first, you’re wondering if you would need to reintroduce yourself but there’s a small flash of recognition in the same eyes she shared with Levi. She studies your face as well as your hand that holds onto her son’s. After a moment of thinking, your name finally comes tumbling out of her mouth in a question as she makes her way over to you. She wraps her arms around you in a tight hug, squishing the bouquet you had brought in the process.
“Oh wow, look how much you’ve grown. I haven’t seen you since you were just a little thing.” She says softly. You hug her back carefully, aware of how much smaller her frame is to yours. Her hugs are so good you want to cry again, but you hold them back and instead relish in her warm embrace before pulling away with your own beaming smile. Levi reaches over to take the flowers from you, a handful of petals falling to the vinyl flooring as he does and sets it on Kuchel’s nightstand.
‘It’s nice to see you again.’ You sign, Levi interpreting for you as you go.
“Oh, are you deaf honey?” She watches you with intrigue. You shake your head no.
“She’s mute, but she can hear you just fine.” Levi pipes up softly. He looks to you as if to apologize but you smile back in reassurance. There was nothing to apologize for.
“Oh dear me. What happened?” She places a soft hand over yours before leading you to one of the chairs next to the one she got out of just moments before. Her eyebrows furrow at you in concern, the same way Levi’s does – it makes you laugh.
“I don’t think we should take up this whole visit with such a long story.” Levi suggests, shooting you a nervous glance again. You wouldn’t mind explaining the situation at some point but truthfully, you didn’t have the energy to dive into it right now. Especially when there’s only so much time to be with Kuchel and you would rather shift the attention something more pleasant. Levi picks up on this.
“What have you been working on lately?” He points to the piece of paper that Kuchel was currently sketching on, and she starts talking animatedly about her newest project.
The visit with Kuchel goes well into the early evening. The time was spent talking about Levi when he was younger, which surprised you a lot, but you remembered him mentioning how people with dementia can have a harder time recalling recent memories compared to older ones. Levi, of course, was not thrilled to be the topic of conversation but he didn’t fight it.
From her anecdotes, you learned that the moment they moved to Jinae, Levi had done everything he could to help supplement their income so that his mom didn’t have to work as much as she used to. That meant doing odd jobs here and there – working late into the night sometimes and at such a young age. It makes you sad to think of such a young Levi losing parts of his childhood to survive. But you get the sense that Levi would do it all over again if it meant being where they are today. Despite the struggles, they did what they could - together.
You were having such a wonderful time getting to know more of Levi’s past as well as Kuchel’s life that you barely register him squeezing your hand to get your attention.
“We need to get going soon. It’s almost time for mom’s dinner and we have one more stop to make.” Levi says gently, pursing his lips. He wasn’t ready to leave either. Squeezing back, you nod to Levi and stand up slowly from your chair. You offer Kuchel a small smile and lean down to hug her again so that she doesn’t have to get up.
“Go ahead, I’ll be right behind you. There’s something I need to talk to my mom about.” Levi says, nudging his head to the door behind him. Nodding in understanding, you then reach up to touch his face gently before turning on your heel and starting for the door.
“Wait, dear. Take this with you.” Kuchel calls out to you. She goes over to the wall closest to her and pulls down a sketch. She considers it for a moment then stretches it out for you to take.
When you grab it from her fingers, your eyes widen at the different sketches that filled out the paper. There are a few drawings of flowers growing out of empty space, some with little bees or butterflies hovering from above. There’s one of what you assume is a teenage Levi as he straddles a motorcycle, a scowl shooting straight through you. Finally, there’s a smaller sketch of three kids sitting on a porch step as they eat ice pops together. Levi, you, and your brother.
How wonderful of an artist Kuchel is, you think. The lines are crisp and so full of detail, you can easily feel yourself transported back to when these memories were made. You don’t remember much about your brother, but you feel like that day was a good one. A feeling of warmth travels through your body as a blast of blind nostalgia hits you. You told yourself you weren’t going to cry but you already feel the heat in your eyes as they threatened to make an appearance.
Instead of saying anything, you throw your arms around Kuchel, almost knocking her over in the process. She laughs softly as she holds onto you as tight as she can, her hand rubbing circles on your back affectionately.
“I’m so glad you found us again.” She whispers as she pulls away from you. Her eyes sparkle as she looks up at you, smiling so much so that her eyes crinkle in the corners. “Don’t be a stranger.”
With that, you squeeze her in one more hug. Pulling away, you mouth an ‘okay’ with a toothy grin before turning on your heels and out the door, closing it with a click behind you.
“Something on your mind, Levi?” Kuchel turns her focus on her son who hasn’t moved an inch from his seat. Levi props his elbows on his knees and folds his fingers together to rest his chin on it.
“Mom, what do you think about her?”
“Well, I’m not the best person to ask about that.” She chuckles as she leans back into her soft recliner.
“I know, but-“ Levi’s leg starts to shake with anxiety.
“I think she’s lovely. She’s grown into quite the woman, reminds me a lot of her mom. From what I can remember, you know.” Kuchel teases. “Why do you ask?”
Levi’s fingers unlink from each other, and he starts to fidget with the fabric of his jeans as he looks away shyly.
“Mom. I’m going to marry her.” Levi whispers quietly.
“Oh honey, I know.”
“You know?” Levi glances back up to his mom incredulously.
“Yes. I’ve known since you were both kids. I’m pretty sure she even exclaimed at one point that she was going to marry you when she was old enough, to which you scoffed. It was very adorable.”
“Mom, I don’t know whether to be embarrassed or surprised that you remember something like that. It’s just something kids say.”
“The way you look at each other now is the same way you did before. Stars in your eyes, like nothing else mattered.” Sitting up, she reaches over and places her palm over Levi’s busy fingers. “Do me a favor. Go to my nightstand and grab that blue box inside the drawer.”
As always, Levi does what he’s told and makes his way to the wooden nightstand by her bed. He expects something decently sized but instead, he is met with a small pale blue box. A ring box. He picks it up carefully and turns it around to his mom with it pinched between two fingers, leaning back so that the drawer closes behind him.
“What’s this, Ma?” Levi asks as he brings it over to his mom’s awaiting hand.
Kuchel pops it open and turns it to Levi. It’s something he’s seen once, many years ago; A bridal set, one that was passed down from her mom. In the middle of a gold band sits a dainty oval ruby surrounded in “vines” that are beset by smaller diamonds in the shape of leaves. An engagement ring and wedding band – fitting together perfectly. Kuchel had shown Levi the set when he was really young, but she never wore them – which he suspects was to keep it safe from his father’s clutches. The gemstones sparkle brightly off the sunset that floods through her window.
“Mom…”
“Now listen here. I won’t be around forever – don’t look at me like that. I want you to have this now. I’m not saying to get married right away or even propose, but it would make me feel better if I knew you had this for when the time comes. And I trust you way more than I do Kenny.” With a snap, she closes the lid and shoves it in Levi’s direction.
He takes it reluctantly, not really sure what else to say. The thought dawns on him that his mom might not be around for his wedding day whether it be mentally or physically, and an ache shoots through his chest. But just like him, his mom’s decision was made. And there was no going back.
“Okay, mom.” He says back finally, closing his fingers around it tightly before standing up to slide it in his jean pockets.
“Don’t disappear on her again.” Kuchel stands up as well and places both of her cold, delicate hands on each side of Levi’s face as she stares hard at her son. “Promise me.”
Cupping his own hands over hers, he nods back as he says, “I promise.”
“Ms. Ackerman? It’s time for dinner.” A voice rings out from a staff member that stands in the open doorway of her room. It seems they have come to collect Kuchel to take her to the dining hall.
“Yes, one moment.” Kuchel wraps her arms around Levi once more and holds him close for a moment before letting go. “I’ll see you soon?”
“Of course Ma, I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He says quietly then leans over to kiss her warm cheek.
“Can you get her a vase for those flowers, please?” Levi asks as he steps towards the staff member currently blocking his path.
“I’ll see to it, Mr. Ackerman.” They bow slightly and move aside.
As he brushes past, he sees you leaning against the wall as you scroll through your phone with his mother’s drawing pinched between tight fingers in the other hand. The golden rays from the sunset reflect off the white building and through the windows, sheathing you in a shower of sunlight like a spotlight. You are blissfully unaware of how breathtaking you are to him.
“Are you ready to go?” Levi asks, startling you from the video you were silently laughing at. You lock your phone and slide it into your back pocket before stretching a hand out to him to take. Your smile never fades as he laces his fingers through yours without hesitation and leads you out of Riverside Assisted Living, mumbling about where he would like to go for the evening.
.
That night, Levi surprises you with a picnic date.
By the time Levi pulls into his apartment, the sun is all but gone – leaving indigo and navy blues behind it. He told you that he wouldn’t be long and to stay in the running car. A few minutes go by until you see him again, bounding down the steps with a large blanket roll in one arm and a picnic basket in the other. As the overhead lights pop on while he opens the back door to unload what was in his arms, he shoots you a small smile. Then he holds something small out to you.
“Will you hold this for me?”
You hold your palm out for him, and he places a small box in the middle of it. It’s black with mesh wire on each side and a few little buttons on the top. It’s a bluetooth speaker, you surmise. When Levi hops back into the driver’s side, you raise an eyebrow at him.
“I figured you wouldn’t want to eat dinner in silence.” He says as he reverses out of the parking spot then heads for the main road.
It doesn’t take very long to get to Jinae’s downtown – just minutes away from their café. But instead of turning down the street that would lead to it, he keeps driving until he gets to the park that once held the Sakura Festival so many months ago. The trees are all but green now, not even a small trace of pink hanging from the branches.
After parking in a small lot provided for park goers, Levi takes your hand and leads you down the subtle hill towards the bank of the river. It’s a lovely evening where the air is just warm enough with a light breeze. Fireflies start to flicker in and out of the whole park, illuminating whatever happened to be near it in a warm, yellow glow. And the only noises you hear are distant crickets and frogs coming from the river – which flows so gently that it doesn’t even look like it’s moving. The city lights reflect off the water like its glass.
There aren’t that many people out tonight as well, which is surprising given the time of year. But what surprises you even more is the one single tree lit up with a string of lights that encircle the trunk and up into the branches above. There’s nothing else next to it but you know it was meant for you.
This was the same tree you and Levi sat under while you waited for your friends at the festival back in April. Where the urge to kiss him was burning through your whole body. Where you felt your feelings for him concrete themselves into your mind.
Levi hands you the basket before letting go of your hand to roll the blanket out under the tree. In mere moments, his shoes are removed and placed neatly in the grass. He beckons you to join him as he stands in the middle of the blanket, the soft glow of the tree lighting up his face.
Kicking off your own shoes, you then step over to Levi with the basket dangling in your fingers. As he reaches over to take it back from you, he takes a step forward to plant a gentle kiss on your lips – one that lingers even when he pulls away.
“Is this okay?” he asks. At first, you think he’s referring to the kiss, but you realize his eyes are bouncing around you. There’s a subtle hint of anxiety in his gaze that wouldn’t be detectable by most people.
‘This is perfect.’ You reassure.
Despite how small the basket looked from the outside, you find out quickly that it held more than you thought. Once you and Levi settle down, he starts to unpack a myriad of items, mostly all food related. A plate with what looks like chicken salad sandwiches comes out first, all cut into small triangles. Then comes a small bowl of chopped up melon, a bag of chips, and a tall bottle of amber liquid – apple juice, Levi assured you. Finally comes out a small pillow that you recognize from Erwin’s couch. You can’t help but laugh as you sit up straight to get a better look at everything.
“What?” Levi asks with a frown.
‘It’s nothing. When did you prepare all of this?’ You inquire before picking up the chips to inspect what kind they were.
“Earlier this morning.”
You look up to see Levi eyeing you warily. Behind that façade of nonchalance, you see a very anxious man waiting for what you thought about all of this. You never took Levi to be the type to care about what other people thought, which means he really cared about what you had to say.
‘This is fantastic. Thank you for putting in all the effort.’ You lean over to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek. With a light blush, he hums back in response as he looks away to fiddle with something on his phone – at a glance, it looks like a music app. That reminds you about the speaker you had shoved into your bag before leaving the car, so you reach in and pluck it out. Levi takes it from your hand and a moment later, soft rock plays through each side of the box. Despite the small build, it sure is mighty in sound.
“There. Hungry?”
‘Starving.’
As Levi watches you nibble on your last piece of melon, he can’t help but think how perfect you are to him. Vulnerability wasn’t something that came easy to him but when you walked into his café and back into his life, it was like a scab that had been reopened. As uncomfortable as it was, he found the rawness that came with it very refreshing. What would it mean to stay by your side forever, he wonders. To wake up next to you for the rest of his life.
These thoughts raced through his mind earlier as he packed the basket and you waited in the car. The ring box burnt a hole in his pocket as he stood by his desk contemplating his choices. Tonight would be a perfect time to propose to you but still, something held him back. This was new to not only him, but you as well. Were you ready for something so life-altering? Was this even something you wanted? These were not topics that are generally brought up in casual conversation after only a week of officially dating.
No, he would know when it was time. For now, he was content with what he had, and he would wait for as long as you needed him to.
“Are you happy?” Levi leans back on a hand as he looks over to you.
You glance over to him in surprise at the question. Just as quickly, it dissolves into a big smile that lights up your eyes. Popping the rest of the fruit in your mouth, you sit up so you can sign easily.
‘I am. Are you?’
“I guess. It’s nice here.” He smirks at you, remembering that this is what he said to that same question months ago. “With you.” But he never got to say that to you then.
“You told me a while ago that words were not always needed to convey intent.”
‘I did, yes.’ Your face scrunches in confusion at the sudden statement.
Levi sits up before reaching into the basket with his left hand. For a moment you think he’s about to bring out dessert of some kind but instead he takes out a small paper bag, no bigger than three inches in width. He turns it upside down above his palm and out comes a gold chain necklace. A small cherry blossom pendant dangles off the side of his hand, glinting in the lights next to you. You scramble up on all fours as you inch closer to get a good look at it, knowing full well what it was.
“At first, this was bought as an apology. But now, I think this was also my way of saying that I love you, without me realizing it.” Levi mutters softly. Your wide eyes flicker from the pendant over to Levi’s face, lips parted in amazement. The necklace looks as if it was never broken, much less worn with the fresh polish it had received.
Before leaving Liberio, Levi had snuck away to a jeweler in town to see what they could do to fix it. In terms of damage, fortunately it was minimal. ‘For something so delicate, it sure is hardy.’ the jeweler had told Levi as they inspected it. He knew the jeweler was talking about the chain, but his mind drifted to you instead.
‘You fixed it for me.’
“It was important to you. I couldn’t leave it behind.” Levi gets up on his knees and scoots so that he’s behind you. Gingerly, he loops the chain around your neck and a few seconds later, it’s locked tight. You pinch the small metal pendant in between two fingers as you sigh in relief at the familiar weight hanging on your neck once again.
‘Thank you, Levi.’
You turn to face Levi and throw your arms around his neck as you lean in to kiss him. He startles at the abrupt movement but is quick to reciprocate as he places both hands on your waist and pulls you closer into him. He can feel you smiling into the kiss as it deepens.
As you both break apart, breathing heavily from the lack of air, you don’t lose your smile. Your hands raise to cup Levi’s face, your thumbs stroking his cheeks as you stare into those slate gray eyes of his that you loved so much.
“I don’t really have much else planned for tonight, so I can take you home-” You’re quick to cut him off with a shake of your head, much to Levi’s relief. He wasn’t ready to let you go either.
“Okay.” Levi muses. “We can stay here until you’re ready.”
The night carries on as you both lie on your backs, Levi holding you close in one arm. At some point, he started humming along to some of the songs that flowed through the speakers. The fireflies had gone to bed soon after. With your head resting on Levi’s chest, the gentle beating of his heart threatens to lull you into sleep.
As sure as the twinkling stars drift above, Levi Ackerman loves you.
And oh, how you love Levi Ackerman back.

I’m bored and high on meds and decided to make Avatar the Way of Water HCs
here we gooo
Jake: - has definitely, actually roared at his sons at least once out of frustration - is still super in love with Neytiri, like a teenage kid - while Neteyam may be his first born and the "golden child" of the Sullys, Kiri has a very special place in Jake's heart - carries Tuk under his arm like a purse
Neytiri: - used to sing her kids to sleep when they were little - she doesn't strike me as the parent who would get mad at her kids for saying bad words, unless they're aimed at another person - was heartbroken when she learned that Kiri cannot connect to Eywa safely - doesn't like when Jake carries Tuk under his arm like a purse - strikes me as a mother who hated being pregnant, but loves kids so much she happily did it anyway
Neteyam: - he's bi - like you cannot tell me that Neteyam is 100% straight - *was - read human books in attempts at looking smart for people he had a crush on - books were always turned upside down - "oh uhhhhh that's because I'm so smart I can read them upside down haha" - everyone knew he couldn't even read because no one can because the Na'vi do not have a written language
Kiri: - Sass Queen™ - which she got from her father, Jake - connects with Spider so well because they both feel different from everyone else around them - I will riot a lil bit if she doesn't develop feelings for a girl in the future - still calls Lo'ak "penis face" once ina while to put him in his place - is probably a vegetarian
Lo'ak: - still thinks fart jokes are funny - dumb as a brick but tries hard not to be - Payakan is his Bestie™ - tried to make a Bestie bracelet for him and Payakan - found out it didn't work - cried - tries to be tough and cool - looks too cute so it's not really working is it - "oh man I'm crushing so hard on Tsireya" proceeds to leave her with his brother's dead body for like an hour
Tuk: - i have a feeling she will look most like her father growing up, but act most like her mother - will probably have matured too much in the 3rd movie due to the trauma of the 2nd - if anything happens to Tuk in Avatar 3 i will riot on the streets with fire
Spider: - Neteyam taught him all the bad words - All The Bad Words In The Entire Na'vi Language - Spider speaks fluent Swear Words™ - but is actually a good boi - most likely annoyed the f*ck out of Quaritch on purpose in hopes of him letting Spider go while captured - obviously didn't work since Quaritch is more annoying than Spider and thus immune to annoyancy
Tsireya: - claims she's in love with Lo'ak - was mighty fine with the idea of Lo'ak swimming into Payakan's mouth when she still thought Payakan was evil - like girl wdym "I met a boy" - are you in love with him or nah?? - otherwise she's the Na'vi embodiment of glitter and rainbows - probably a little traumatized after Lo'ak left her with Neteyam's dead body - but yeah she's all good uwu
Aonung: - flirts with boys - swears he's straight as an arrow - cannot tell the difference between a bow and an arrow - like the kid has a fixation on tails and you tell me that boy is straight???
Rotxo: - no he's not one of the jerks that messed with Lo'ak - he has a look-alike you fools - Rotxo is actually a good boy and cares about people - especially Kiri 0w0
Quaritch: - played too much CoD growing up - that's it that's all there is to that cracther - i misspelled *character but i'm gonna leave it at that - too lazy to fix my mistake
Tonowari: - cutest character of them all despite being a grown man - only rivaled by Tuk - Tonowari and Tuk could have "cuteness contest" and Tonowari might actually win - like he's so full of fluff and care and love - still wouldn't say no to him railing me in bed tho
Ronal: - would kill a man to protect her spirit sister - would kill a man to protect her family - would kill a man to protect her people - would kill a man

Hello once again RD tumblr. I recently went on an extreme discord ramble about Cocole in my au and its so long i feel it be a waste not to put it here! usual me warning of yeah its reallly long under the cut. anyways have fuuun
(PS im not editing this from the discord messages cus im eepy so might be a bit messy!)
So to start before rhythm doctor even starts some background on CC Cole and Nicole. Cole first:
Cole was a single child that grew up a VERY privileged life style. Rich neighborhood and spoiled rotten at the expectation that he would be like his parents. (be a CEO or high ranking individual like his dad n have a stay at home wife like his mother) Cole however ended up with a music obsession ever since he was 12 and started playing the piano. At first his parents encouraged this, giving him lessons and everything but when they realized music was the only thing he did care about, they were more hesitant on supporting him n tried moving him on a different path. This does work well on a rebellious spoiled teen so Cole just ended up becoming more obsessed out of spite. Spending all of his allowance on his electric guitar, synth and microphone. Cole was still being a freeloader off of his parents money by 22, never having actually gotten a job and just barely finishing highschool. His parents kicked him out when he refused to get a job n this lead him eventually to Middlesea after many long train rides across the countryside. Got admitted to the hospital basically as soon as he got to Middlesea due to a lack of sleep and an extreme amount of caffeine drinking. Doesn’t mind too much because it gives him company and he wanted to stay in Middlesea anyways since it was told to him by a chance encounter with miner that it was the capital of music.
Now Nicole:
Much less privileged growing up in comparison to Cole. Moved to Middlesea when she was just 1 from Norway since her dad got a job offer. Unfortunately said offer fell through and now they were stuck in North America just trying to make do. Nicole grew up with all brothers- 1 older, 2 younger. Picked up the guitar after begging for a full year for her parents to get her one for her 14th birthday. (which they did) Nicole grew up with dreams of grandeur- being a famous enough player to help her family and be know more then the awkward lanky gameboy girl in class. Her dreams of that were half crushed though when she entered a high school talent show that she was planning on playing at but when she was actually on stage she completely froze up and had a panic attack. Got bullied pretty relentlessly for it and the nail in the coffin was seeing how poor her family was in comparison to others and how she was just putting more stress on it trying to be a musician. Gave up on music at 20, moved out into a small apartment, got her barista job, and started getting check ups by 22 due to her sudden smoking habit from stress. Met Cole when he stumbled into the Cafe the same morning he was admitted n they started up their daily routine of chatting with each other
SO! Everything is basically identical to what happens in game till after act 5. When Lucia proposes the idea of a talent show, Cole reeaaally wants to get Nicole to play with him and Samurai. Nicole is pushing him off due to her past trauma of the last talent show she tried to preform at. Using the excuses that she got rid of her guitar and she can’t even play anymore anyways. Meanwhile only a few weeks before this, Nicole had started teaching Logan how to play the guitar to confess his love to Hailey with music. Nicole had been spending the whole day dealing with Cole coming in every 30 minutes to try and convince her but Nicole repeatedly shut him down. Cole was making a final plea to her at the end of her shift n just as she was gonna tell him one last time she didn’t have a guitar anymore- Hailey and Logan suddenly barged in. Turns out Logan had confessed to Hailey not more then 10 minutes ago and when she found out who taught him how to play guitar, Hailey wanted to return the relationship favor to Nicole. Handing her back the guitar right infront of Cole n thanking her for teaching Logan before running off dragging a very apologetic Logan behind her. Cole and Nicole were silent as she held her guitar before Cole asked if she could now that she had her guitar. Nicole put it away and told him to get out so she can close shop. Cole tried staying but got pushed out and locked out by a very flustered Nicole
Nicole was. Kinda mixed in her feelings. Angry that even happened, guilty that she was called out for her lie and wondering if she should take Cole’s offer. She was still thinking it through for the next 2 days n her completely ignoring Cole asking about it was enough to make him give up n just start planning with Samurai. Samurai came into the cafe when Cole admitted defeat to him n very roughly questioned Nicole if she still enjoyed music or not. When she said she did and had actually been playing more before this because of Cole, Samurai told her she should show him that. Nicole didn’t really respond but that night while Cole and Samurai were song writing- Nicole showed up with her guitar after work, ready to join them. Cole jumped up to quickly hug her excited before catching her up on what they were doing. She never had her heart jump so suddenly
So the trio started practicing for the talent show, writing a song together and practicing together. As the day of the show started approaching, Nicole’s nerves started getting the better of her and smoked more as a result. Smoking more made her SVT worse so now during practice she was even more fidgety and nervous then before. Cole eventually took notice when she kept getting pissed at missing her cords n turned a practice night into a gaming night with the three of them to calm her nerves. Over games, Nicole admitted to Cole and Samurai why she was so damn nervous about this and how stupid her first attempt at a talent show went. Cole offered to shove her if she froze up n though she laughed and pushed him calling him a dick, Cole meant it in a caring sense. They would be by her side in this dumb idea so if she felt embarrassed she could blame them for it. Nicole still laughed at the idea but felt some calmness in the idea. Regardless- the day of the show was there and Nicole still had a shift to finish so they were going last. It was a quiet day in the Cafe n so her thoughts were racing while watching the clock occasionally. She began drifting off into nervousness again by the end of her shift and only snapped out of it when an exhausted Lucia broke into the cafe sweating and huffing. She was surprised to still see Nicole there as she pointed to the clock showing it was only about 5 minutes before she played. Nicole FREAKED out n asked Lucia if she could close for her in a panic n as soon as Lucia said yes, Nicole handed her the keys and apron thanking her, before dashing down to the parking lot the show was being held at. When Nicole got there, she froze before the backstage seeing how many people where there to watch but quickly ran again when she saw Cole and Samurai signaling her over. Cole reassured her one last time it be okay before they went up there n to just keep her eyes on him. No other time was left for anything else to be said but Nicole gave a nod
Cole Nicole and Samurai all went up to the stage but right before they were going to play, got cut off by Richard waltzing in trying to use this massive crowd as a publicity stunt. Some shenanigans later and Insomniac running at Richard with his sword to scare him off, the three got to play their hearts out. Nicole and Cole sing together. N as she kept her eyes on Cole as he suggested, she realized he was looking right back at her just as they did in practice when it was just the two of them. Playing like no one was watching. The trio finished and ended up winning 1st place in the show with much cheering. Everyone afterwards headed back to the cafe for an after party n Nicole got to properly close up n got Lucia comfortable with a blanket. Cole sat back with Nicole behind the bar counter as the little party chatted about. Suddenly through a light whisper, Cole thanked her. Nicole was confused but Cole just showed her his still shaking hand. He was just as if not more scared of going up there but her looking at him gave him the strength to push on. Nicole didn’t say much in response but ruffled his hair calling him a doofus.
Now then it’s only gonna get rough from here!
Cole and Nicole return to their usual routine and banter after the talent show but something seems very off with Cole one day. He came in for the usual morning chat but in the afternoon he was far more nervous n off and tried to ask for some caffeine. Nicole declined of course, asking if he wanted to get himself back into an addiction n he obviously agreed he didn’t but seemed to be unsure of his own answer. Nicole did her best to try and burry the thought thinking Cole was just having an off day but then the same thing repeated the next 3 days. Him getting more and more pushy about getting some caffeine and Nicole getting progressively more frustrated with him. Nicole was planning on confronting him completely on the 4th day but he didn’t even show up that day at the Cafe. Nicole wondered if he was just going to a different Cafe to get caffeine but was much more shocked with the actual answer. Cole’s parents walked into the cafe that evening n spoke to Nicole if she had seen Cole. They told her that they had found out he was admitted here only a few days ago from a recording of the talent show n were coming to her after seeing her with him in the show. Nicole found out she hadn’t seen him today because he was hiding from his parents and refusing to see them even after they paid off all of his medical bills for his discharge. Nicole was flabbergasted by this. 1. That he was refusing to see what seemed like wonderful parents if they were just willing to pay off that debt and 2. This is how she found out he was attempting to get caffeine to avoid his discharge. Nicole couldn’t help his parents anymore and they had to get home for work so the conversation fell off quickly. Nicole however was PISSED
Cole meanwhile all this had locked himself up in his hospital room, petting Loafy to destress from the situation. He refused to be dragged back home by his parents and lose all the genuine friends he had gotten there. Besides he was so close to realizing his music dreams n giving in now would be ridiculous. Those friends he had made though were all now trying to talk to him since all of them had met n talked to his parents before they left n believed he was just being crazy and rash again. He didn’t let any of them inside either.
Night came n Nicole got off work. As soon as everything was closed up, she made a beeline for Cole’s room. Cole didn’t wanna let her in at first but didn’t miss a beat to when he realized that it was Nicole n gladly let her inside before locking it again. Cole immediately acted like everything was normal and fine to avoid the inevitable conversation but that just sent Nicole off. She called him for what he did to his parents n how she would of done anything to have something like that just covered instantly. Cole’s demeanor changed again into defensive annoyance with her. Cole still hasn’t told anyone his past at this point and he sure wasn’t now. Just called his parents out for trying to control what he was doing with his life and didn’t care what they tried, he wasn’t going back to them. This hit Nicole right in the heart with rage- she had given up her dreams to help her struggling family who never could help her much but he was just willing to throw that all away out of spite of not wanting to work. She knew he didn’t have a job n was broke but this was insane behavior. Nicole exploded at Cole, yelling that he was one hell of a selfish freeloader if he was willing to hurt himself just to get what he wanted. Cole backed off out of surprise but bit back yelling that she had no idea what he went through. They continued yelling at eachother for a minute-loafy hiding under the couch and a few other patients passing in the hall listening in
Cole snapped suddenly when Nicole refused to hear him out, telling her that at least he wasn’t a pathetic miserable minimal wage worker who gave up on his dreams because of other people dragging him down. Nicole stood still staring agasp at what he said and processing it. Cole seeing her expression immediately tried to back track his words but Nicole just told him to fuck off while stifling tears n left for the hospital balcony to cry and smoke. Nicole stayed up there for almost a full hour comprehending everything that just went down untill she got a grip on herself n lost her anger and just wanted answers from Cole. He might be an idiot but she knows he had to have some reasons. He always did.
Nicole headed down from the balcony after another 20 minutes of thinking through her words and finishing her second cigarette but found the janitor cleaning Cole’s room instead of Cole. Nicole, confused, asked where Cole had gone if he was cleaning out his room and Janitor told her Cole had taken his discharge early immediately after their fight. The one thing Janitor could point to where Cole had gone was seeing him searching up train times as he was packing. Nicole looked at the clock. 20 minutes till 11 pm. Nicole wordlessly walked out of the room and looked down the hallway. She broke into a sprint.
Cole’s feet dragged across the ground to the major train station platform. Hood up and hat spun back forwards, he was going through his contacts and deleting all of the ones he had. He hesitated with Nicole’s contact but ultimately ended up deleting it when he started getting notifications from her. Just shut himself down and pulled out his ear buds being sick of music. Wondering if his parent were right for a moment before shoving down the thought and just focusing on the train signs to look up what town he’d end up at next. He looked down the open track and spotted the lights of a train only a few minutes off so gathered his things in preparation to leave. A loud thumping and trip against stone caught his attention from the tracks though and saw Nicole standing there at the end of the stairs.
Nicole was horribly winded but regained her strength as she stumbled over to Cole and pulling him into a hug before he could say a word. Cole stumbled over trying to apologize to Nicole while she held him but Nicole just told him to shut it before falling into a ramble. She confessed everything openly to Cole, how he had gotten her into music again, how she had honesty been smoking less because of him, how brighter her days were with him around, ect. She told him she wasn’t angry anymore but was instead begging for him to stay- not just for her but for himself too. She was scared what might happen to him alone out there- and openly admitted her love for him and everything about him even if it was a mess sometimes. The train to leave rushed by while Nicole still held onto him and it left him to make the next decision.
Cole struggled to muster his words through tears but clutched Nicole back, swearing to her he’d stay. Telling her that he loved her too in much more plain words as his tears choked him out. They kept holding onto each other crying till the train was gone and they separated from their griphold. Nicole took Cole back to her apartment and both collapsed. They were too tired to talk that night and Nicole had another shift that morning so they agreed to talk about this the next night before Cole crashed on the couch and Nicole crashed in her bed.
SO! Cole stays at the apartment for the day while Nicole goes to work for the morning. Nicole wasn’t expecting much that day but it turns out most everyone Cole was close to have been thrown into a panic since they can’t get in contact with them and didn’t say goodbye to anyone. Hailey and Samurai especially aren’t doing so well after Cole disappeared. Nicole finds all this out through a distressed Samurai getting a caffeine drink with a shot or two in it. Nicole tells him that Cole is alright and at her apartment so Samurai immediately goes to tell everyone else. Hailey is pissed as hell that Cole was willing to scare them that badly n shows up to the cafe to tell Nicole that. Samurai is just sad, worrying that Cole didn’t actually care about him that much. Nicole swore that she’d bring Cole back tomorrow to sort things through n left after her shift with more questions for Cole.
Once Nicole does get home, she finds Cole actually cleaned the entire apartment while she was gone n was just sitting at the dinning table waiting for her and doom scrolling socials. He stopped as soon as Nicole came in n once she got herself comfortable they basically immediately started having the talk they said they would. Nicole demanded some fuckin context for all his actions at this point and Cole relented. Told Nicole how he didn’t want to be near his parents since all they wanted from him was to drop his dreams of being a musician and instead get a big business job like his dad. Nicole could understand that but then asked why he removed all the contacts of his friends because they were all distraught because of it n Cole just kinda sat back processing that. Cole admitted quietly he didn’t think he’d be missed that much before going quiet again thinking. Nicole stared at him with sympathy but sighed that was a can of worms they needed to sort another time- but for now there was something more pressing.
Nicole told Cole pretty plainly that if he was gonna live with her, he had to start paying rent too and that meant getting a job. Cole was still adverse to the idea, mumbling that he thought music was a job but Nicole pretty bluntly asked how much he was making. Cole said 30$ a month. Nicole stared at him unimpressed. Cole conceded and agreed he needed a job but frankly had no idea where to start. Didn’t exactly have connections or a great resume to use n him getting along with someone is a 50/50 coin flip of them getting along or them hating him. Nicole agreed that it was rough n buried her head in her hands in thought trying to come up with something. Both sat silently thinking till Cole sprung back forward from the wooden chair almost falling over with him in it. Cole warned it might be insane but maybe he could start working at the cafe too? Nicole could use another hand, he was already used to the layout of everything and it be alot easier for him to get in. Nicole called him crazy but when taking a moment to think about it she agreed it was kinda the best bet they had. A few calls later- Nicole was able to convince her mostly absentee manager to interview Cole in a few days much to his excitement and extreme anxiety of getting an actual job.
Nicole ruffled his hair assuring he’d probably be fine there n to worry about it when it’s actually time to. Cole agreed and both were suddenly left wondering what to actually do for the rest of the night. They still never properly had really thought of themselves in a relationship yet but the thought was now pressing on them. Nicole just excused herself to make them dinner and just told Cole to turn something on the TV. She eventually joined him on the couch n one attempted cuddle later, things felt a lot more natural now that they were past the overwhelming fluster of knowing they were in a relationship. They ended up passing out in bed together cuddling
Now then- next day Nicole dragged Cole’s ass back to the hospital to apologize to everyone. Hailey smacked him with a nearby magazine before hugging him, telling him with a bit of a shakey voice to never do that again. Cole swore not to and hugged back. Samurai on the other hand was more nervous to talk to Cole then Cole was to him. He was scared Cole didn’t actually enjoy his company but Cole spent the next 30 minutes swearing that no, he did really care and promising to play drums and base with him again to reassure him. Also got hugged by Samurai but Samurai wasn’t really paying attention to his strength and nearly crushed the boy. The rest was pretty much the same, angry at Cole in the moment but happy to have him back. Things move relatively quickly and in the background after this point for them- Cole got the job and learning how to work hyjinxs insue but things in the story for them settle for a little while after this.
The two mostly play a supporting role for the next month or so. Nicole also dropped smoking when they started dating. Cole understanding the plights of Ada Ian Nicole and Janitor now that he works himself and it acts as a major ego check for his usual antics. Cleans up after himself, thanking and uplifting Ian n Ada when he gets the chance (especially to Ada after feeling guilty for literally throwing hands in 2-2 when she was just helping) n having a general more respectful attitude to everyone. Only playing with samurai on free days and never at night, n being less of a genuine shithead. He’s got a good heart just not the greatest lessons learned from being spoiled rotten by entitled parents.
Nicole during this whole break though ended up in contact with Cole’s mom behind his back. She reached out to try and check in on Cole more but slowly got more and more info out of Nicole about his life- including them being in a relationship. Nicole was still kinda hesitant of believing Cole’s words completely after how much he lied before and his mother really did seem to just want the best for him so she continued contact. Eventually his mother asked Nicole if she could bring Cole back home just for the holidays to talk to him. Nicole was incredibly hesitant trying to figure out what to do about it. She eventually decided through her own values that it would be a good idea for Cole to make amends with his family. Nicole agreed to it before telling Cole n well. Cole was angry to say the least. He told Nicole that his parents were nothing but bad news but she defended herself that she spoke to his mother for a month and she saw no red flags in the slightest. Cole was even more elated at that admission but Nicole begged him to please just give them one more chance. Cole’s new mellowing out lead him to agree with Nicole just to keep the peace in their relationship as much as he hated it and quietly hoped maybe she was right.
So! Cole and Nicole get their holiday break n head out on the long train ride to his hometown. Cole was brooding most the ride but Nicole kept holding onto his hand as reassurance. After the 6 hour ride there they arrived and Nicole was a bit shocked. It was fancier then anything she had ever even seen let alone stepped foot in. Not exactly a neighborhood for a minimum wage worker to belong. Regardless they were able to be taxied to the house after Cole gave his Id for passage into the gated neighborhood and arrived at the house. A grand moderately sized home kitted out with everything you could imagine, Cole’s mother, Holly, came outside first to greet them. Cole accepted her hug hesitantly n Holly went ahead and hugged Nicole too making her just as awkward feeling. Shortly after Holly was his dad, Cresso (are these both coffee puns? Yes). Cole just backed up without interacting outside of a strained hi but Nicole shook his hand when Cresso offered it. Both were welcomed inside and told to just go ahead and make themselves comfortable for the night since it was pretty late. Cresso didn’t say anything exact but lead Nicole to the guest room while telling Cole he could stay in his own room for the night. Nicole didn’t wanna piss off his parents so just relented to sleep in the guest room without Cole even when Cole tried to push it. Cresso seemed satisfied with Nicole shutting down Cole’s rebelling n though that left a pit in Nicole’s chest she just blamed it on train exhaustion n went ahead to clonk out without another word.
Now I’ll be frank im still rewriting the details here but the important stuff: -Nicole obviously finds out how privileged Cole was -Cole when he gets the chance to speak to Nicole alone tells her he hates it here- not the comfort of money, but the social sense. He’d rather live on the streets then be stuck here -dinner the next day. Ohboy dinner the next day. Over dinner there’s essentially a blow up when they find out Cole is still doing music and Nicole is too along with encouraging him. It starts light but eventually devolves into Cresso calling Nicole a lowlife service worker n that Cole could do better then this. Holly tried to damage control but it was too far now and Nicole n Cole packed their things to leave immediately.
The late night train ride was tense to say the least. Nicole tried to apologize to Cole after a long silence but he just told her he didn’t want to do this right now but he was angry. Cole just cuddled up to Nicole’s side and fell asleep for the rest of the ride. Guilt ate her up on the way back n handled Holly texting her after the whole thing. Basically telling her off, Holly understanding n agreeing to not speak again. Nicole stayed up the whole ride just watching the stars and snow n they still didn’t talk once they got back home at 4 am other then Cole choosing to sleep on the couch that night. Nicole wanted to give him the bed but chose not to stress him more with a pointless argument.
Things do not go swell once they’re back. Cole and Nicole aren’t talking n everyone can tell so eventually someone (Ada) asks Cole what’s up n he vents the whole situation out bluntly. Ada asks Nicole if this is seriously what happened n Nicole didn’t even try to defend herself anymore n said yes. Ada was shocked and appalled what Nicole did all because she didn’t believe Cole. Ada told Ian, Ian told Cinny- and eventually the whole story got spread around the whole hospital. No one was happy with Nicole and frankly all became hesitant to confide in Nicole after that leading to silent shifts and nothing to break up the monotony of it all. The added social stress brought Nicole to start smoking again. Cole stopped being as cold with Nicole just wanting to move past now but the damage had been done to her by herself. Nicole wasn’t okay with just being forgiven quietly like this or forgiven at all.
A week into this when Cole finally said it outloud that he forgave her and just wanted to move on, Nicole refused it. Cole tried to get through to her more forcefully with yelling but Nicole just ended up misinterpreting it as her fucking up again- the combination of meltdown and smoking sent her into a really bad SVT attack making her faint. Cole rushed her to MSH for care and stayed by her side till she had to be taken back for urgent care. Nicole woke up the next day sore and breathless n a note left by her bedside. Cole was taking over her shifts alone but wanted her to know it was okay and to please just rest for his sake. Nicole didn’t have much choice in the matter anyways being bed bound but took his word to heart. Cole visited every break he got from the rush n though he looked exhausted n a mess he still told her it was okay. Nicole while he was gone started writing a song for him as some sort of apology. However when she did play it for him a week later n got to the line that she didn’t deserve him, Cole shushed her up.
Cole was already a bit teary from her being so thoughtful to write a song for him but told Nicole he was the one who didn’t deserve her. They went back and forth with sad laughs that they didn’t deserve each other but Cole eventually stopped it n made Nicole a deal. If he stopped saying it then she had to stop saying it too. Nicole thought he was still joking but when he wasn’t she gave an exhausted sigh n smiled before agreeing. Cole thanked her n hugged her tightly. Nicole joked that she’s glad he didn’t hear the rest of the song cause she wants to rewrite it to be perfect for him. Cole didn’t quite care if it was perfect but as long as it was her it was alright. Nicole called him a goof for that one n he just giggled saying he was being honest. They ended up cuddling n passing out again even if it fucked up Coles sleep schedule
After this mess part 3, they get back to their normal groove again n do their usual routine n chilling in the bg. Unfortunately this peace after the winter holidays would move into a blooming disaster in the start spring. The two were off work but over at the hospital after doing their morning baseball workout with everyone else. Cole n Nicole were just hanging out with loafy n after throwing a bone for him outside n watching him struggling to find it in a bone, the lights suddenly shut off, old metal gates shut on the outside door n emergency lights were the only thing lighting up the halls. Nicole and Cole ran down to the main hall hearing something going on n joining a group of other patients they saw CT dropping Edega and turning to them. Lucky yelled at them all to run so they followed without another word. Once they were able to get a safe distance away they all listened in on Logan’s phone to Ian explaining the situation. Frankly Nicole n Cole didn’t understand half of it other then they were all in danger and to protect Hailey n Logan the most. The call cut off as the phone’s screen shut off from Connectifia before Ian could help them get out. Lucky took command of the situation n told Cole and Nicole to get Logan and Hailey as far away from CT as possible. They didn’t hesitate, nodded, and took the kids by the hand to get away from this horrible situation.
Nicole and Cole course couldn’t go as far as they wish they could but honestly they were trying to not freak out from the distance screaming n keep Hailey and Logan calm. While Cole was trying to calm Hailey from a meltdown, CT began stomping towards them n they all froze. Cole watched CT with baited breath before telling Nicole to hide them without turning around. Nicole barely got out a whispered “what?” Before Cole asked her if she trusted him. Nicole looked at him, still turned, and back up at the slowly approaching CT and said yes. Cole told her to go then and started running down the hallway to distract CT. Nicole hesitated to go and stop him but turned away n ran to take Hailey n Logan somewhere safe much to their chagrin. Cole grabbed a left behind baseball bat and though he was no hitter, just used it get get CT’s focus on him before dodging for his life. He couldn’t run forever though in a place like this and inevitably got trapped in a room and tripped over equipment before CT got a grip on his chest and sent him straight into a paralyzing SVT attack with its electrocution. Cole was left on the floor of that room once CT left to find the last 3.
Nicole knew that scream. But it was twisted and mutilated from the fun moments she had heard it before. Logan n Hailey were clutching to her hand still but knowing what was coming, Nicole took both of them and put them inside a empty cabinet to hide before running out herself. What more did she have to lose anyways? She followed the same steps as Cole with CT to get them away but her running into a room was stopped by all the fallen over equipment making her hesitant to go in. The moment of hesitation gave CT enough time to pin Nicole against the wall by her back and zapped her without a second to react.
Nicole sat delirious, the repeating blaring of the alarm slowly deafening in her mind and was slipping away till she moved in the slightest and all the pain hit her again. A voice cut through the monotony of it all. Cole had crawled out on his hands from the room he got trapped in and was using what little voice he had left to call out to Nicole. They couldn’t see each other much at all in the darkness and slipping conciseness but kept each other company with their presence. Talking hurt too much so they just sat listening to each other’s quivering breath till they passed out entirely.
If utter darkness was the one thing Cole had seen before the soft florescent light he woke up to might as well of been a flashbang. It was definitely still MSH but everything seemed tidyer then when just Ian and Ada handled things. Cole sat up slowly feeling his breath still burning but looking around realized Nicole was right by him with her eyes still closed and laying on her chest. It took a bit of willpower to do but enough bugging her sleep by saying her name managed to wake up Nicole as well. Neither could really do anything once they were awake but seeing each other still there was enough reassurance.
They recovered relatively well after the incident other then being self conscious about their new scars but uplifting each other about them. Talked the most to the 3 kids when they couldn’t sleep n just wanted to make sure everyone was okay and were the first ones to start walking around on their own again. Mostly stuck together when they were recovering after that whole ordeal. Generally avoiding talking about all the heavy implications and thoughts that traumatic event caused n seemingly getting through it the easiest. (when in reality they’re keeping all that fear in the back pocket for later when it’s gotten worse )
and well. Honestly that’s kinda where they end off for the main plot of CC before they start going on their own life story together.
If you managed to read this far, thank <3 i hope you enjoyed the straights simplifed

🥊Nina and Logan Relationship Synastry🥊
Credit: @venuscnjunctpluto
*I recently watched an interview w these two and their energy towards each other was interesting . Obviously their relationship has attracted alot of drama due to the his boxing opponent cyberbullying Nina*
🥊 first and foremost Logan is a Pisces Venus. These men are looking for someone kind, empathetic, and fairytale like. Women who are in distress, emotionally vulnerable, dealing with grief and trauma. Obviously people aren’t perfect but it takes some time for Pisces Venus men to learn this. When they are young they will fall in love with the idea of a girl who will turn out to not be what they wanted. They will hold onto this woman while still longing for their true fantasy and usually this leads to cheating. They are constantly displeased with the realities of a relationships /!; If you do not fit their fantasy you’re done for. These men can really disregard women who don’t fit their ideal and use this to justify sleeping around because the women weren’t “worthy” of good treatment anyway. They have to learn there is no prefect partner and everyone has bad days but loving someone despite all that is the purpose.
🥊Pluto in 10th his reputation is all over the place. He’s done some terrible things and this is something he’s struggling with. I think he’s worried that he’ll never find someone he genuinely likes because he doesn’t think he deserves it. Also, indicates image obsession and control issues. Nicki Minaj also has this a shes made statements about her husband being w her with or without the fame and during her hate train era.
🥊regarding her past, Ik a lot of Aquarius mars women who don’t view intimacy the way society wants them to. I love love love Aquarius mars women lol and I do not agree w the slut shaming. Not to mention the person (Dillion) who is fueling a lot of the slutshaming has mars conjunct lilith. This might indicate he directs his anger towards women who are outspoken, nonconformist, or overtly sexual as those are themes of Lilith.
🥊Logan has moon square neptune which mean his relationship with women is not always clear to him. He could be very empathetic towards women to the point he gets manipulated or he’s the manipulator.
🥊Logan has Venus in the 1st so he’s attracted to Martian qualities in a woman. He also has mars in the 7th so his marriages could be very chaotic and Rocky. Nina is an Aries sun + Aries Mercury
🥊her moon is in his 12th…. It’s a big he’s not seeing her for who she actually is. She can pick up on his emotional cues and sensitivities. He mentioned noticing her years ago on a super-bowl ad and it’s a high chance he dreamt about her. He views her as someone who needs protection from this “big bad world”. I think he literally called her an “Angel” and a “Saint” 😭😭😭. He is especially attracted to this overlay because he’s a Pisces Venus.
🥊also as a Capricorn rising a big thing for him is settling down with someone they can start a family with and marry. He’s made it clear he wants to marry Nina and have children. They take having children very seriously because usually these people were forced to grow up too soon and they don’t want to inflict that onto their own kids.
🥊her mars in his 1st he looks exactly how her ideal man should be. I’ve had this synastry before you’re just very very very attracted to them. It can get to be a lot when the 1st house person starts to “put on a show” and do too much lol.
🥊her Venus in his 2nd…yall saw that ring right?💍 and they seem very big on physical touch as he mentioned Nina loves PDA.
🥊Nina has Venus trine Pluto so it’s no shocker that her looks and beauty lead her to be engaged to someone with money. These women can use their femininity to gain access to other peoples funds, secrets, and fears. They know relationships aren’t just about “love” and they easily find themselves playing the game. However her Pisces Venus is still a hopeless romantic at heart.
🥊he has Venus square pluto and he’s definitely used relationships or flirting for content purposes. He made it a point to say he didn’t want Nina to feel like content so he kept their relationship private. He is attracted to women with access to money and bonus points if she’s secretive.

random simon “ghost” riley hcs because i’m mentally unwell about this man
he doesn’t wear his mask all the time. at least the one he wears in the field. usually when on base or at home, he will wear a simple balaclava (still with the skull print) or a black surgical/face mask. this is mostly to keep his anonymity but has also become a comfort and a way for him to choose who he let’s see the real him. (before anyone asks, no he doesn’t sleep or shower with it on. the only time he sleeps with the mask is if he’s out in the field and has to share a tent with someone. otherwise it comes off.)
because he wears a mask so often, ghost keeps gum, mints, hard candies, etc on him at all times. this is both to keep his mouth from drying out and to keep his breath fresh. it also acts as a way to curb his need for a cigarette.
(he also has a massive sweet tooth, especially for sour or bitter tasting things. he doesn’t really like fruit flavored candy and instead prefers the real thing. though he does make an exception for lemon or sour cherry flavored sweets.)
speaking of cigarettes, ghost doesn’t actually smoke too often. he will occasionally (mostly smoking with price during breaks), but tends to keep away from them. it’s mostly a way to help him cope with stress. you can tell when he’s really stressed by an increase in his smoking habits.
yes he does go to therapy. he has a lovely therapist that he meets with regularly. he prefers in person visits as it allows him more privacy to fully open himself up, but if he’s really desperate he’ll do a phone or video visit. these mostly happen when he’s deployed.
in terms of relationships, ghost doesn’t actively seek them out. this is due to a multitude of reasons, but many stem from his active duty as a soldier. he’s seen a lot of people come and go in his life, and he’s seen the aftermath of what happens when a spouse or partner is left behind. he doesn’t want to risk putting someone through that trauma given how dangerous the missions he goes on are. however, if the right person came along, he might be willing to work through those feelings to be with them. though it would take a LONG time before he felt ready to do that.
he prefers judging people by their actions over their words. if you can prove yourself trustworthy and loyal to him, you will have an ally for life. breaking that trust will cause him to turn very hostile (ex: graves) towards the person. it is extremely difficult for him to forgive people and trust them again unless they show over a long span of time that they have actively changed for the better.
not a huge sport guy to be honest. he doesn’t like watching or playing sports too much besides watching the occasional soccer match with the rest of the 141. he prefers spending his rec or time off reading, listening to music, or playing board/card games. he’s the reason why there’s a ton stockpiled on base. his favorite games are strategy based like catan, risk, and chess. (he also loves mousetrap but mostly because he loves watching soap get pissed at getting trapped.)
sleeps like the fucking dead. when he’s out, he’s OUT. there is no waking this man after he falls asleep. moves around a lot when he sleeps too. has definitely woken up on the floor because he rolled over too far in the middle of the night. also talks in his sleep and says the most batshit insane things that leave his bunk mates fearing for their lives and sanity.
he does the autism thing where if someone asks him to do something, he’ll say “no” and do it anyways. it confuses a lot of people at first when he does it.
is actually a really great cook. he has a collection of recipe books at his flat back home that he will try different recipes from often. he saves his favorites in a little binder along with any notes he’s jotted down (like modifications for his own taste, things to pair with it, etc.) he will cook for the 141 if they ask him to.

STEVEN GRANT SFW ALPHABET -- PT 2
Tumblr media
aaaaaaa part 2 is here!! terribly sorry for the delay i was a bit busy with studying for my exams, ANYWAYS! thank you so much for the people who liked part 1 i had so much fun writing these
ALSO thank for anon for sent me a message (it made me tear up dont tell anon) and i shortened this for your sake! anyways ENJOY
Gifts – What do they give you as presents? How often do they get you gifts?
“steven grant of the gift shop” I mean come on. I think hes that sort of partner (or friend) that surprises you with random gifts “HEY LOOK AT WHAT I SAW TODAY!! IT REMINDED ME OF YOU SO I GOT IT” its usually the randomst bizarre gifts and trinkets. Like you may make an offhand comment about how you genuinely thought unicorns were a real thing because you watched harry potter as a kid and it wasn’t until YEARS later when you found out that they don’t exist (SPOILER ALERT) so one day hes standing in line waiting for his morning coffee and he sees a cup that has a little unicorn on it and he INSTANTLY buys it and he would get sooOoOoOoO excited when he give it to you.
Hold – How do they hold you? Cuddling, sleeping, holding hands…
Oh steven steven steven, my little touch starved and deprived boy. When he gets comfortable around you (and you him) He. Will. Not. Let. Go. Of. You.
If he can he will hold you 24/7, but as its not possible (you try to convince him) he will pout when he has to go to work or he will definitely pout and whine when YOU get up from bed when he wants to cuddle
Okay so cuddling? Big spoon or small spoon? I think both? Like it would depend on the mood and on you really, but if hes big spoon he will stick your back to his front and put his arm under your head (although it starts to hurt after a while he literally does not care) and one hand on your boob (first couple of times hes very shy about his hand placement but by time if he gets confident he may squeeze)
BONUS: if youre touch starved but also a bit touch repulsed because past trauma (like me hello) it means the WORLD to him when you let him touch you and hes always asking for consent to make sure youre okay
Ideal – What’s their ideal date like?
Museum date ha ha.
I mean yes of course but I think dates where you get to do an activity is very fun for steven (although he does spend more than half of the date staring at you, you pretend you don’t notice)
Jealousy – Do they get jealous easily? How do they handle it?
Mmmm yes I think he does get jealous easily, but that’s due to his insecurities ingrained in him from the people around him (cough cough donna) making him feel awkward or too much or too hyper (cOuGh that cunt donna cOUgh), but definitely not because he doesn’t trust you or anything like that. He might need you to reassure him a couple of times to gain more confidence tho
I think he would come to you and white people smile (like marc in episode 3) the person whos shamelessly flirting with you and try to politely drag you away for that person (my polite boi *dreamy sigh*) if hes feeling confident
If hes feeling less confident I think he would just watch the scene from a far with sad puppy eyes and he only interferes if you are visibly uncomfortable. If not, unfortunately he will start to overthink and doubt himself (marc and jake are trying to help but they only offer umm…non civil offers) which do nothing to help his growing anxiety.
BONUS: if while talking to the person you point to steven and mouth “that’s my boyfriend right there” he will swoon (and might tear up)
Kisses – How do they like to kiss you? How frequently do you kiss?
While episode gives us a very middle school kiss from mr steven grant (it was horrible and awkward don’t try to convince me otherwise) I think by time he improves?? Like yes its still very sloppy (and sometimes its too tongey??)  but its very intense nonetheless. Hes very passionate about everything he does, and I think he can really pass his feelings for you through his kisses
I think before steven kisses you, he has to hold your face in the palm of his hands, one hand on your cheek and the other a bit far back near your neck for support (because you’re a gooey mess when steven holds you like that) and hes just. Lost in your eyes for bit, like AAAAAAA im blushing just thinking about this, but hes just looking at you like you are quite literaly the center of his universe. Just so much love and adoration and content before he finally kisses you. This happens almost every time he kisses you because hes that much of a sap.
(except of course the times where you guys are big hornballs and cant keep your hands away from teaching and just hitting every surface in the shared flat until you FINALLY get to the bed)
Love – How do they show you that they love you?
I think steven is a very verbal guy, so you can count on a lot of verbal reassurances if youre one of those people who are insecure (join the club) so yes he will tell you he loves you verbally.
Also for me, learning somebody’s mannerism and habits and finding them endearing is PEAK love for me, so knowhing how you like your coffee or tea in the morning and making it for you if youre running late or just too lazy to get out of bed, and somehow he makes it better than you ever did? What sort of sorcery is this?
REPOSTS AND LIKES HELP MY EGO THANK YOU MUAH
again if you want more of these i thoroghly enjoy writing about my boys, just tell me!

Random ninjago hcs because it’s almost 2am and I feel like writing up some headcanons
Jay’s autistic and has a special interest in zoology. Yes I am very much so projecting with this one
Kai has tons of burn scars, both from his element and his time as a blacksmith (Nya also has burn scars from blacksmithing).
Anything Zane drinks gets converted to steam to keep his internal mechanics running smoothly (he doesn’t have to worry about rusting since he’s titanium). He doesn’t need to drink to keep his internal mechanics running smoothly, but it does help them run more smoothly.
Cole and Nya are the only two who know the full extent of what happened to Jay on the Misfortune’s Keep. While Cole doesn’t remember anything or even know what Jay was even talking about, he promised Jay not to tell anyone and helps him through nightmares if Nya’s in too deep of a sleep to comfort him.
Kai has trauma from how Nadakhan interpreted his wishes, but he doesn’t remember it. All he knows is if his fans get too crazy, he ends up panicking, and if the team isn’t careful it turns into a panic attack.
Ray and Maya are incredibly supportive and have also adopted Lloyd, Jay, Cole, Zane, and Pixal, despite knowing Jay, Cole, and Pixal do have parents that are alive. Any time one of the ninja comes out to them (Kai coming out as bi, Jay coming out as trans, etc) they’ve been super supportive and have threatened violence if anyone’s bigoted towards them.
Zane coats himself in an antimicrobial solution on a regular basis so he’s clean and not spreading disease to his teammates, since he knows it’s entirely possible for bacteria and viruses to stick to his titanium skin for extended periods of time. While everyone else insists he doesn’t have to, he does it anyway because he doesn’t want to risk it.
Kai’s fire can get super hot. He can ignite a blue flame, blue flames being the hottest flame you can get (between 2,600 and 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit).
Benthomaar regularly looks around the area surrounding Merlopia to make sure there aren’t any kids in danger, something he does to remember his dad. Any time he finds a lost child who he believes is an orphan, he takes them to Merlopia and tries to have someone take them in if he can’t.
The chickens around the monastery can control the elements of creation (fire, ice, earth, and lightning). Just like Wu has a lightning chicken, there are also fire, earth, and ice chickens.
Morro and Garmadon were initially enemies in the Departed Realm, due to Morro possessing Lloyd. Eventually Garmadon forgave him and before Garmadon was brought back by Harumi he played chess with Morro on a regular basis.
Sometimes Pixal makes small gadgets for everyone else as gifts. It’s the easiest way for her to show affection, as she’s usually busy and unable to spend time with them much. When she does spend time with the others, she enjoys playing video games with them, and is quite good too.

EPIC: the musical catifed, Odysseus trying to sleep
Tumblr media
Here’s another look at my catifed Odysseus design for EPIC! Anyways most of this is gonna be me rambling about Ody in EPIC.
I wonder how well the dude sleeps, I mean I know it’s not really good, as he’s mentioned a couple of times that he only really gets nightmares:
“what’s a title that a goddess could lend if I’ll never sleep at night?” (My Goodbye)
and
“I no longer dream, only nightmares of those who’ve died.” (The underworld)
And a couple of other mentions if my memory serves me right, but I still wonder how often does he get those nightmares? Are there times where he doesn’t even sleep because he’s haunted by what he’s seen? Or does he ever actively avoid sleeping due to these nightmares, or maybe it’s a mix of all. I doubt that he has nightmares every single time he sleeps, but it still seems he gets them very often and doesn’t negate the fact that he’s probably laying awake in bed thinking about the trauma he’s endured. Looking at the line in My Goodbye shows this, sure he gets nightmares but he also barely sleeps at night. I’m sure he’s able to eventually sleep or that it isn’t every night despite what he says “I’ll never sleep at night.” Which could’ve easily been a hyperbole, but despite that its still happens with some frequency that he even says “never” in the first place. And of course I’m not denying he has nightmares, he says he does and there’s no reason for me to believe he doesn’t, plus night terrors is a common symptom of trauma (though not everyone who has has trauma is going to have that, just to be clear. ). It just makes so much sense he’d have trouble sleeping considering everything he’s gone through. And when he’s finally back home and gets to sleep with his wife again he’d still be haunted by those memories in his sleep, and I think Penelope would quickly realize that and it would just break her heart. Overall Odysseus has most likely changed drastically in those 20 years due to everything, and he’s probably become overly anxious and somewhat withdrawn from intimacy(among a lot of other things). Which is something I feel like past Odysseus was never really like at all, but Penelope still loves him so and of course is willing to be patient with him. I would go on and on about Odysseus’s trauma and how he’s changed but that’s not what this is about and I’m sure I don’t have to spell it all out for many of y’all.

Giiiiirllll your domestic hcs are so perfeeect!! You capture the character really really well! I absolutely adored the ones you did for Asra and Julian and, If it’s not bothering, can I ask for Muriel’s too? No pressure if you don’t want to
Awwwww thank you so much😭 I’m glad you liked them!! No it’s not a bother, I would love to. This would of been done sooner but, I had a migraine that wouldn’t go away.🥲 Anyways, enjoy! And sorry for any mistakes.💕
Edit: Was going to wait a little to post it but I accidentally posted it instead of saving it to my drafts. And I don’t wanna delete it so, yeah.🥲 👍🏻
The Arcana Muriel Domestic Headcanons!
Warnings: Slight mentions of past trauma and destructive/SH behaviours
Asra’s Version | Julian’s Version
Tumblr media
How do they sleep? Do they snore? Steal blankets? Ect.
Usually he sleeps on his back. Doesn’t move at all unless he’s having a nightmare, in which he’ll move around a little bit and end up in the foetal position. Sleeps on a “bed” made from fur blankets, but will sleep anywhere even if it’s uncomfortable.
Occasionally he’ll sleep on the floor and let Inanna sleep on his bed.
He doesn’t steal blankets, not really. If he’s cold, he’ll subconsciously snuggle further into the blankets. However, with being born in the Shinning Steppe and growing up an orphan at the docks, he’s quite used to the cold and knows how to handle it.
On the nights where he’s having flashbacks about his time as a gladiator, he’ll deliberately sleep on the floor, without blankets, in the cold, as what he deems as punishment for his actions.
When he’s with you, he’ll be cautious in the beginning. He’s HUGE and he’s scared of crushing you. He likes (prefers) when you sleep on his chest. It’s more comfortable that way, and convenient. That way he can still sleep on his back, cuddle you, and not crush you. Again, he doesn’t steal blankets. In this situation, he’s likely to take up most of the blankets coz he’s big. But he takes great care in making sure he’s not taking too much. He’ll constantly be checking and asking if you have enough blankets and if you’re warm enough in general.
Do they prefer baths or showers?
(Apparently Muriel only showers when it rains?? But we’re gonna ignore that coz, wtf?)
Neither.
Muriel views washing the same way he views most things. He does not allow himself to have a favourite thing or a preference for something. The method/s he uses to wash comes down to convenience.
Most days he’ll just grab a rag and fill a bucket with cold water and have a strip-wash. Other times if he’s really dirty, he’ll bathe in the closest stream or lake. (Any body of water located outside and closest to him.)
Once he starts healing his trauma and allowing himself to actually enjoy things, he’ll start to appreciate and love baths. PROPER baths. With hot water and nice soaps. Muriel also gets a lot of muscle aches. This is due to bad posture from always having to look down at people and needing to hunch over in order to fit in most places. So bathing in the hot water not only helps him to relax, but it also soothes his tired muscles.
Are the clean or messy?
Well, Muriel doesn’t own much. And he also lives in a tiny hut.
He keeps what little he has tidy the best he can. Gifts from Asra are kept in a special spot so they don’t get broken. Furniture and other items are kept in an orderly fashion so Inanna doesn’t hurt herself or get into something she shouldn’t. Besides that, he doesn’t own enough to be messy.
If/When the time ever comes that he lives with you, and gets more personal belongings in the house, he’s sure to tidy up a bit. He will come to find he doesn’t really like clutter and mess. He finds cleaning to be relaxing and helps soothe his mind. He may not be able to control what’s in his head, with all the memories and what not, but he can control what’s in his room/house.
How frequently do they wash their hair? How long does it take?
Washing his hair is different to washing his body. He won’t wash his hair on his own accord, kind of. He’ll just let his hair get all oily and unclean. And when it starts to itch? He’ll ignore it.
The only time he’ll wash his hair, is when Asra’s popped around and seen he hasn’t washed his hair, and gifted him some shampoo. Only then will he wash his hair, albeit reluctantly, because he can’t let the shampoo go to waste. So this means that he washes his hair as frequently as Asra gifts him shampoo, which can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
Once he’s with you, he’ll wash it every few days. It’s apart of his new life that he actually comes to appreciate and enjoy. Muriel surprisingly didn’t actually enjoy the constant itchiness, so washing his hair frequently gets rid of that.
What is their love language?
Gifts!
Now hear me out!
Muriel, because of his own past, has a weird relationship with gifts and other forms of affection. Both giving and receiving. But! The one thing that has been a subtle constant in his life (at least since meeting Asra) has been the exchange of items. Asra giving Muriel trinkets from their travels, Muriel giving them protective charms. Asra cooking for him, Muriel carving Asra little sculptures. And as he heals and grows as a person, that’s something that becomes more prominent.
For Muriel, gift giving is a way to convey feelings & affection. And it doesn’t even have to be anything flashy. It’s about intent. If you go and make him something? It shows that you’ve put time and effort into that gift. If you’ve gone and gotten him something because it reminded you of him/you thought he’d like it? It shows that you put thought and care into it.
He especially likes handmade gifts.
Muriel isn’t good with emotions and affection. But this is a good way to express his affection for people, by giving them things. And it can also be practical and extend to other parts in his life. Like cooking something for someone when they’re busy, or sick, or just because.
Favourite wind-down activity?
Muriel doesn’t always quite understand the concept of winding down. But, he likes to cuddle with you and Inanna by the fire.
He’ll sit you in his lap, with fur blankets around you both, and just sit and cuddle with you. Sometimes in comfortable silence, sometimes without. When you do talk, it’s usually about how both of your days went and then just goes from there.
Sometimes he’ll whittle, and if you ask he’ll teach you.🥰 Becomes a regular wind-down activity if you do. You two just chillin’ in front of the fire with him patiently teaching you to whittle.
Other times he’ll get you to read him a story or make up your own. He never had anything like this growing up, so for him it will be a cherished experience. Especially loves it if you goof around and do voices/impressions. It will actually make him laugh.<3
Who cooks and who cleans?
Honestly? He’s fine with both and kind of enjoys both.
He’s a pretty decent cook. Before, he used to have a difficult relationship with food. He thought he was too big too feed and that’s why his parents sent him away, and that was something that stuck with him. He’d very rarely cook anything bar unseasoned eggs, and ate only the bare minimum. He never let himself indulge, he never let himself view food as anything other than something he needed to stay alive, and something that led his parents to abandon him.
With you he develops a new perspective on cooking and food. Now he experiments with dishes and allows himself to indulge and to enjoy the experience. He enjoys cooking with you and sharing this experience with you. He loves showing you all the different food combos he’s come up with.
He will still have a difficult relationship with food, and there is also always the potential for him to fall back into old habits. But with time, he’ll unlearn those habits and end up having a healthy relationship and love for food.
Muriel is fine with cleaning up, especially if its his mess. If you’re the one that cooked, he’ll clean up because it seems fair that way. But more times than not, cleaning and cooking are both things you do together.
Main reason for arguments?
*sigh*
Muriel, the poor bby, will take any conversion with even the slightest hint of anger, irritation, ect as an argument. So technically, by that definition? Arguments happen over everything, all the time.
Because of this, you’ll often find yourself with an upset Muriel whose avoiding you because he thinks he’s done something wrong, and is scared that he’s gonna make it worse and that you’re gonna be upset with him.
Once you let him know the differences between arguments, disagreements, and just generally saying things when you’re stressed out, he’ll get to a point where he is able to differentiate between them.
Actual arguments however, don’t ever really occur. Because of Muriel’s history and his, somewhat endearing view on arguments, it usually doesn’t reach argument stage because it’s already been dealt with before that point.
When they do occur, it’s usually over him being worried for you. For example: If you go to the markets by yourself, and you come back later than expected. He’ll start internally freaking out that you’re hurt or something. And once you come back, unharmed, he’ll start fussing over you. After multiple times of that happening, its going to end up leading to arguments. With time though, these occurrences will lessen and he’ll be more confident in your capabilities.
