Weird trend I've noticed:
When it comes to Disney-owned television shows, people seem much more willing to recognize that Disney just owns it, Disney didn't make it. The creators, writers, and actors are more likely to be credited and celebrated within fandom spaces, and even people who dislike it will acknowledge that it was made by the individual artists.
Disney movies, though? They don't seem to get that as often. The movies are much more likely to be treated as if the vague entity of "Disney" made it. Fans will say "Disney made a great movie," and critics will say that "Disney made a piece of crap." The directors and writers get mentioned much more rarely.
For example, people know that Dana Terrace created The Owl House and Alex Hirsch created Gravity Falls and Matt Braly created Amphibia, but far fewer people seem aware that Turning Red was directed and co-written by Domee Shi, Encanto was directed by Jarded Bush and Byron Howard, and Moana was Musker & Clements.
I'm sure a decent amount of that is due to the way Disney itself markets the films as part of their brand. Show title cards will list the title and the "created by" credit, but you never see that in film title cards (if the film even has a title card). The company wants you to look at the movies and only see the corporate branding. They want the movies to lead to new theme park attractions and merch deals, where they just don't put that level of marketing into their television productions nine times out of ten.
I do often think fandom spaces could be more diligent in learning the names of the artists behind the films, though. Disney didn't make them, the workers did, and it's the workers who get exploited in the process. At least give them the credit instead of the studio.

So I promised a background/minor character design appreciation post...
(Part one because this will likely get long)
Starting with the imps, due to the order in which characters of different species are presented on the wiki
Tumblr media
Ah, Pringles. Of course. What a guy. He is very shaped. (Especially the hair and collar. I happen to be a sucker for male characters with that kinda "cat fluff" hairstyle.) Love the weird little cuff on his tail, it's so unnecessary but it fits. Dapper boy. Gotta love him
(As far as I can recall he gets bitches in Ozzie's, which, like, good for him!)
Tumblr media
There's this kiddo from Loo Loo Land. I like her shapes as well, very exaggerated. As depicted here she kind of reminds me of some concept art girlies from the Art of Encanto book.
Actually, I think I have an image...
Tumblr media
...I'm not the only one who sees it, right?
(Anyway, it's still available for free to view online. Very interesting stuff.)
Tumblr media
Ahh... this guy. Or gal, actually. Turns out this is Skye Henwood's impsona, as well as my favorite character in Western Energy. Me and my friend were deadass ready to adopt her on sight. So tiny!! So shaped!! Look at that ridiculously huge bowtie. The littol suit. I want a pocket-sized imp now. Would carry them everywhere in my purse. Speaking of...
Tumblr media
That's exactly what she did! Another crewsona (Sam Miller), and this design is incredibly slay. The feathers. The tail. Big, flowy, swooping shapes. (Not a big fan of the hands, though.) Very majestic creature overall.
Tumblr media
Moving on to a few background Wrathians from Harvest Moon. She's a cutie. Not much else to be said. I like her outfit with the little boots and gloves as well as her pigtails.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think these two could be related.
Tumblr media
She looks so silly, I love her. Her hat and horns are disproportionately huge and it's precious.
Tumblr media
Her name is Square, and she has major resting bitch face energy. I appreciate her instantly. (Long sleeved shirt + short shorts is a good combo.)
Tumblr media
This guy from the Ozzie's elevator scene (Aspen) looks like he'd have quite the story to tell over a couple drinks of hard liquor. Slutty, but in a tired way. (A certain saxophonist cat from another piece of online media also fits that description.)
Tumblr media
HER!! I love her so much. Everything about her honestly. The colors!! The legs!! The underbite!! She has no official name, but I call her Pomegranate. Or Pom for short. Got some of my own lore for her and everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Haven't watched Queen Bee, so I didn't get to see Dennis in action, but from this still alone I conclude that he's pretty cute. (However dude could use to pull up his pants.) Didn't really deserve to get yelled at, anyhow. Justice for Dennis!
Though I do have an old Dennis character, and he's a dick, so maybe Blitzo was on to something.
I like the girlie on the right too. Women with :3 smiles automatically win me over. The ripped pants and loose tank top go well together, and the splotch of magenta on the waist isn't obnoxious.
Tumblr media
Mamma Mia, an imp with not purely and overwhelmingly red skin? What a spectacle. She looks way more like a black character than Velvette. And due to her subdued skin tone, the pink looks nice on her. (Which can't be said for Millie in one of the pieces of summer merch. Who thought pink on her was a good idea?!) Cool hair texture as well, feels very poofy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some bite-sized imp clowns from The Circus; their names are Eenie, Meenie, and Miney. How charming! Though, as I recall, doesn't that old children's rhyme go on to have four-
Tumblr media
...Oh.
Tumblr media
I think this might be Barbie Wire. We were never told explicitly, and she isn't even mentioned in the episode itself, but she looks closest to that design.
(Though I just noticed her horn stripes are too thick. Nevermind, then. Seems like she didn't even get that brief cameo in Blitzo's nearly episode-long childhood flashback despite being his twin sister, which should suggest that they were pretty close.)
Tumblr media
I like this chick, though.
And that's it for now! Let me know if you'd like to see a part two though I might just go ahead and make it anyway

As much as we all want more Encanto content and thought that something really big was going to be announced at the the panel, I have to say that people need to keep in mind that Encanto came out not even that long ago, so expecting a second movie announcement or even a show announcement is way too early and unrealistic. These things take time, and not only that, but it’s very RARE for even Disney to be making more content (not counting merch) of their movies and all when the original source material came out not that long ago. I mean look at Moana and Zootopia, two other Jared Bush and Bryon Howard projects that came out in 2015-2016, and only NOW are announcing that there’s more content coming. I say this because I kinda already see people harassing Jared and the crew, and being aggressive, and not only is that….disrespectful, but people also need to keep in mind that the crew are humans beings and have their own lives, their own projects going on, so we can’t expect them to just keep feeding us when they have other things to do lol. Of course, as an Encanto fan people have a right to be disappointed, I am too, but to the people who are genuinely angry and pissed, (the people who are harassing mainly on twitter I mean) y’all gatta chill. We all know that Jared and the crew are very passionate about this project, and have stated time and time again that they would love to make more content, but we all need to look at this on a realistic standpoint. We may get it soon, we may not, that’s just how it is. But in the meantime, we should be thankful that we have Jared doing Q and A’s, as well as voice actresses like Adassa having a ball. As I’ve said before, I do believe we’ll get more Encanto in the future, but we just need to wait and be patient, that’s how it works in the animation community lol. With that said, I’m still more than happy to keep talking about Encanto, because I love the project dearly and I do want to see more, but to everyone who is upset, I’m sure the future holds great things, we just need to wait. 💕

My predictions/suggestions for Kingdom Hearts…islands? Worlds? And how likely they are to add them
(I know literally NOTHING about Kingdom Hearts other than it’s Disney. So if these exist already sorry)
Brave Island, the Brave ds game I had was so much fun to play so cmon Disney pls add this, especially since they got other Disney princesses- 9/10 probs gonna happen
Pixie Hollow, yeah ok this one miiiight be in there? I know they got Neverland BUT ITS TOTALLY DIFFERENT I SWEAR this franchise is dead though so like, it’s probably not gonna happen if it hasn’t already- 5/10 holding out hope because tink is an official mascot
That Wish movie, Disney fucking loves this movie and no one else seemed to like I get it it’s a 100th anniversary movie so they’ll probably add it like they did Frozen but according to people the Frozen Island World thing wasn’t good- 10/10 it’s gonna happen mark my words
Moana, okay so I think they have this one??? If they don’t…cmon it’s Moana, I think that little elf shoes twink (the main guy) should meet that stupid ass chicken PLEASE- 10/10 Cmon MOANA
Encanto, I love this movie, Disney loves this movie, everyone loves this movie, it’s absolutely gonna happen I can feel it in my heart- 10/10
Lilo and Stitch, ok so again this might have happened? If not I’m p sure Stitch is an unofficial mascot at this point with how much merch the dude is on so I feel like they’re gonna add it- 9/10
Enchanted (that live action princess movie from 2006), yeah…it’s never gonna happen…but a person can dream can’t they?- 0/10 😔
Percy Jackson, PLEASE CMON ITS TECHNICALLY DISNEY AND THERES A SHOW COMING OUT SOON THERE IS HOPE- 10/10 i will PERSONALLY make sure this island happens
The Lion King, ok it’s a good movie, people love it…HOWEVER the issue of the whole just…normal ass lions being there would make me hesitate but then we got Donald Duck follow yall around the whole time so….yknow- 6/10 man it’s the lions
Avatar, ahaha this one is not happening…but it’s Disney and yknow POTC and Marvel is basically dying so this is Avatar’s time to show how cool they are, just give elf shoes twink an air mask- 1/10 if Disney does this I will personally become Kingdom Hearts biggest fan and buy all games and merch and-
Marvel….Disney will not this franchise BREATHE I wouldn’t be surprised if they made Captain America Island, but the concept would only be cool if they stuck to Thor/Loki- 7/10 sadly
Okay so that’s all I got, thanks for listening to me, I watched exactly one Kingdom Hearts tik tok a month ago and this brewed from it

Encanto and Jessica Darrow are my hyperfixations and the fact that Luisa doesn't get nearly the amount of merch and love is super sad! Jessica is such such such a sweet lady, she is amazing and a literal cinnamon roll! As for Luisa herself, how is there not enough content???? She's the best! Super sweet, caring, HUGS! Perfection, pure perfection. Also here's photos of my Encanto shrine including the four pack of dolls I paid forty quid for as that was the only way to get Luisa, when I saw the concept art of Luisa in Brisbane when I went on holiday (from the UK) and Jess holding the picture I drew for her! It's from her Surface Pleasure show and she was like "that's from my show!" and meeting her, I was stimming like crazy and I wanted to say "hi, big fan! Love your new song, thank you for being in Encanto!" Instead, I said "Love!" "Song!" "Keeping...clean!" she understood and was so sweet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that Luisa barely had official merchandise if any at all, because Disney was STUPID and thought she wouldn't be a favorite is so so dumb. Also how the crew had to fight to give Luisa muscles, it's crazy.
We all love her song, but people should definitely appreciate more. Even more than they do already.

Being a fan of Harry Potter is not transphobic. Buying merch and giving JKR money is. But simply being a fan of the characters you grew up with and loved and making fanworks for them and pirating the media has nothing whatsoever to do with systemic transphobia, any more than loving any other problematic media means you endorse either the creators or its messages.
I'm not invested in HP anymore but those books fucking saved my life as an abused neurodivergent kid. I know other trans and ND who still love it and write fic and art. My sister-in-law is kind and decent and not terminally online; she has no idea this puritannical push to expunge HP from cultural consciousness exists. She raised her kids on those books because she loved them as a kid, while teaching them to respect trans and gay people in a country where homosexuality is still criminalised and trans people can barely exist in public. My friend is a doctor who meticulously asks for her patients pronouns when it gets her weird looks from her colleagues. She made a Hogwarts letter for her little cousin who managed to escaped her Dad's abuse with her Mum. My trans autistic friend who is actively suicidal finds escape in writing HP fic.
There are millions people in the world like this, and you can't stamp them out and pillory them because they consume media made by a problematic creator. Protestant capitalism and consumerism has given you an especial kind of brainrot to project individual consumption and preference onto systems of oppression. This is what I mean by the suffocating whiteness of current leftism. All children of the Global South grow up on books written by people who supported colonization. Black people have dealt with the West's cultural cop show fixation forever. Native people have had to allow for the genre of Westerns. Western media and its institutions are saturated with racism and ableism; the majority of it completely invisible to you. People of color and disabled people simply have to navigate it how we can, so we can be fans of anything. You got Lin Manuel Miranda uncancelled because y'all loved Encanto; according to you the choices are either robbing Hispanic kids of representation and a story they love or supporting the US colonial violence of Puerto Rico.
You cannot take out your beef with artists and creators out on people who love the art they create. Social justice has absolutely nothing to do with moral policing. It's cruel, destructive and actively counter-productive. You're conditioning yourself to see danger and enemies where there are none, in a world that already isolates the vulnerable. You're just trying to hurt whoever you can reach to make yourself feel better, and whoever you can reach is other marginalized people.

welp lesson learned dont overhype stuff in ur mind
Tumblr media
Not going to lie here I am disappointed by the panel. I suppose the big tell that nothing huge was gonna be announced is the fact stephanie and john weren’t there. They really had me believing a short or smth was gonna be announced💀 and the concert seems cool that’s awesome but what about us encanto fans who live a whole sea away? like we can’t go to Disney on ice or these concerts but we still want to support this movie as much as we can.
Firstly gonna start off with how unfairly encanto is treated by the company despite being their biggest success since frozen. And it’s sad to see that frozen when it became successful there was so much merch a short only about a year after the movie, and multiple shorts, games, and a sequel. Encanto isn’t a flop by ANY means, sure the theatrical run was average but it was also covid central that month. Encanto has literally broken streaming records, song records and is STILL one of the most watched movies on disney plus almost a year on. I want to know why frozen got all this amazing stuff while encanto gets *checks notes* 3 live action style events all in america. Not to mention the absolute LACK of encanto merch. it took so long for them to restock on it and only recently we’re actually getting merch of the other characters which is great but again there’s not much of it compared to the abundance of frozen stuff. It just feels a little unfair because encanto is a huge success, the cast, animators and entire team literally made a movie that became a phenomenon. So why cant we get any announcements?
secondly, the fact that the director and cast were hyping up this announcement for MONTHS made it really seem like something big. Maybe this is considered big for people in America who are able to go to these things but there is absolutely NOTHING for international fans. The demand is definitely there disney people want shorts they want a series maybe even a sequel?
So what is the reason for having a whole panel dedicated to one movie when you cant even get the main characters to attend and cant even confirm nor deny the rumors of future content?

Makes me sad how a lot of people have been talking about the Encanto fandom "dying". I just love Encanto so much and I don't want it to just be forgotten and pushed to the side, or only seen as a 'fad', or only remembered because of THOSE disgusting people in fandom(who I don't consider fans btw; when you ruin such a beautiful work by painting the characters as creeps and victims, you're not a fan, you're just a fucking creep that'll use anything innocent as an outlet for your fantasies), it deserves better than that, it did so many amazing things, it's the first of its kind! And to reduce it to actual filth is so disrespectful. It hurts to know how some people are in this fandom.
But to hear that it's becoming less of a community with actual moral people really upsets me. I really hope this fandom continues to thrive and rebuild itself (unintentional casita ref? -)
I think it's mainly because there's not much media on it yet, just a movie (an amazing movie, mind you) and not as much merch as people would like... but still, when the TV show happens (WHicH iT BETTER) I hope people will be more invested again.
And to all you disgusting 'fans', I hope you get in a terrible accident.
Seriously, stop doing what you're doing, if you're young, ask for help. Or if you're not and just don't care about what you're doing, get off the internet and fucking rot. You people literally ruin my day, trigger me and make people's lives worse. Wtf is wrong with you

Fandom femmephobia seriously needs to be talked about more.
We know all female characters face fandom misogyny of all times, but no one talks about how sometimes fandom will mercilessly rag on and hate the more conventionally feminine female characters the most, how often those people will dismiss the feminine female characters as shallow and stupid, how often they see them as weak, scheming bitches, or as mean girls, while praising a more masculine female character in a positive way or as “not like other girls”.
Like, aside from the whole Sansa Stark scenario that is decades old, there is also the Disney Princess fandom with how they treat the earlier princesses(Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora) as weak and nothing more than damsels-in-distress, ignoring the fact that they, Cinderella in particular, show that kindness, softness, and vulnerability don’t automatically equal weakness, that female characters don’t have to be warriors or aggressive or stereotypical “strong independent women” to be strong. And how they were all forced into traumatizing situations, Cinderella was literally ABUSED with nowhere to go while Snow White was a fourteen-year-old girl being hunted down to be killed because her stepmother envied her beauty, and Aurora was cursed at birth because an evil fairy wasn’t invited to a party. And yet they remained kind, optimistic, and strong through it all. But go on about how they are weak and passive role models for little girls. And often this is coupled with treating Mulan, Merida, and Pocahontas as better and placing them in the “not like other girls” category because they take on more traditionally masculine roles and are praised for being tomboys in comparison to the more girly princesses(when Mulan and Pocahontas aren’t even tomboys), especially Merida just because she doesn’t sing or have a love interest, as if singing to birds or falling in love makes you weak.
People also love to do this with Ariel and Rapunzel, writing them off as shallow cardboard cutouts, pretending Ariel only wanted to be human for a guy or that Rapunzel was a weak fragile damsel in distress who needed saving by Flynn from her tower, ignoring the fact that she tied him up and forced him to take her to see the floating lanterns, even threatening him with her frying pan again when he tried to back out of the deal. And it is her compassion and willingness to dream that stop the hypermasculine ruffians and thugs at the Snuggly Duckling to stop their mindless violence and open up about their own hobbies(some of which are seen as traditionally feminine!). But a lot of you don’t seem to be willing to realize that!
Even in the Encanto fandom, this attitude prevails. Look at how Isabela and Dolores are often demonized and villainized by the fandom, how Isabela’s issues are all brushed aside in favor of seeing her as just a one-note mean girl, how Dolores is seen as the “true villain” of the movie(and how I’ve seen more than one people say that Dolores is someone who “intentionally” goes after married men because of her prophecy), how Pepa is often demonized for her emotions when being highly emotional is often seen as a stereotypically feminine trait, and how fans often gloat about how Luisa merch outsells Isabela merch by portraying Luisa as a “not like other girls/strong female character” and Isabela as just a pretty face and only being there to look beautiful, because “haha well would you look at that, little girls want the masculine strong girl and not the feminine pretty girl!”, while also masculinizing Luisa at the same time. Or how they’ll say they hate Isabela because they’re tired of “pretty slim girly pink princesses” as if being that way is an insult or a bad thing. Plus there are many fans even today who think that Isabela herself is not like other girls because she breaks out of the norm of perfection in the end, and mistaking it for breaking out of femininity. Because obviously femininity is a trap that renders girls weak and docile and obedient and incapable of being themselves or more than pretty ornaments to be looked at, and the only way to be independent and strong and embrace your individuality and do what you wanna do is by ditching your femininity and being masculine, right?
It’s just annoying to witness and I wish it would stop. Let’s please stop shitting on female characters for being traditionally feminine/pretty/glamorous/soft/compassionate and prioritizing traditionally masculine traits of aggression/violence/stoicism. You can be strong and also be feminine, and embarrassingly this obviously true fact still falls on deaf ears. Let’s do better as fandoms, people. Not just the Encanto fandoms, but fandoms across the board.

Sorry, this isn’t Encanto-related, but I was going through some of my stuff in storage and I just had to share this because I know there are Anastasia (musical) fans following me and this continues to make me laugh because it is just so, SO ridiculous and silly.
I saw this show on Broadway and when you bought merch at the theatre, this is the real bag they gave it to you in.

Hi! Encanto to me is special, like really *really* *REALLY* motherfucking special. For me, it took me back to when I was 14 and I know this will be a long winded story, but hear me out. I was 13, 14 and getting really badly bullied at school, to the point where both my twin and I ended up moving schools for a bit but then moved back as the teachers were shit. What got me through the constant harassment, the name calling, the teasing, the purposeful ignoring because I didn't understand social cues and would react and go into meltdown which just added fuel to their fire? Glee. That's right, Glee. It was the right show at the right time and gave me something to look forward to, something to live for. I didn't care if it wasn't a good episode or the songs were off, it gave me hope and happiness at a time where it wasn't around. And just like Glee, Encanto has done the exact same thing. Given the circumstances when I saw it for the first time, it gave me hope and happiness. My relationship at the time with my mum was almost irreparable to the point I wasn't sure if going over for Christmas was a good idea and me being out of the picture that year would be easier. And then I saw it and whilst it didn't fix everything, I had hope and I felt seen. The arguments between Isa and Mirabel, putting too much pressure on myself like Luisa, repressing my true self for the sake of the family like Isa and trying so hard and over compensating the fuck ups like Mirabel. And what got me was not "Dos Origuitas" (though an amazing song nonetheless) but "All of You". "We see how bright you burn, we see how brave you've been. Now see yourself in turn, you're the real gift kid, let us in. Open your eyes. Abres los ojos. What do you see? I see me. All of me." That. Fucking. Scene. Boom, instant waterworks, Mirabel finally seeing for herself her whole self and her family acknowledging her and validating her. As someone who is always after validation (thank you adhd, autism and burnt out gifted kid syndrome) this part got to me. Ever since, it's become my hyperfixation and also my favourite modern Disney film (favourite classic is Hunchback of Notre Dame) and I have so much merch as well, I have a sticker book, a colouring book, a picture book, the junior novel, the art of Encanto, I have it on Bluray, the two book lego sets of Antonio and Isabela's room, a Julieta funko pop, the doll set of Luisa, Antonio, Mirabel and Isa and I went to Wales Comic Con back in April and met Jessica Darrow who I can confirm is the sweetest person ever! She is so nice and genuine and a literal cinnamon roll, she was super patient with me (I was a stimming and partially verbal wreck, it was beautiful) and I wanted to say "Hi, I'm a huge fan, thank you for being Luisa and also I love your new song make it clean!" Instead what came out - "Song!" "Love!" "Keeping clean!" and she understood! I love her, she is incredible and taking a good but sneaky look, I can confirm her butt is fantastic
That’s wonderful to hear!
While I myself really don’t like the film, I’m glad to read that others do, and see their struggles within the characters.😊
Don’t let anyone stop you from that :D

𝐎𝐎𝐂 — I... want to buy more Encanto merch... especially Bruno. Struggling with the fact most of them are ugly.Funko Pop? The only “good looking” ones as of late... I am not even a fan of those, but I did buy Bruno’s... in february... we’re in f***ing June almost July and I’m still waiting for it to be shipped in Switzerland. Impossible to find him in the plethora of funko pops they sell in shops... Encanto ones are missing most of the time for some reasons...
Aaand yeah... watch me spying on the Good Smile online shop for the Nendoroids because I’m hardly disappointed with them and THEY DO SHIP IN MY COUNTRY >_<’
