What do you like about the Odyssey? Besides some entertaining episodes (e.g. Circe or Calypso), I've never really been able to get into the Odyssey as a whole (I find the first 5 books especially dull). The Iliad really speaks to me more.
It's hard to really pinpoint what I like most about it but I love to talk about the Odyssey so I hope you like long posts hahaha
The first five books act as the exposition. When the Iliad ends, there's a general understanding that most of the surviving characters made it home. Menelaus and Helen have reunited, the catalyst for the Trojan War has been resolved. Agamemnon traversed the sea and made it back, and although he was killed by his wife Clytemnestra, there is no question about where he is; unlike Odysseus.
Telemachus has spent his entire youth without a father. When he finally decides to set out from Ithaca to find any leads on where Odysseus is, he is confronted with the fact that most everyone else has been accounted for. He sees Menelaus and Helen, the order of their kingdom, the comfort they have in each other and the bonds they have restored. Telemachus has known nothing but uncertainty, while his mother is forced to weave lies and deceptions to keep the suitors that plague their home at bay. The first five books really show how important one man can be when he is utterly lost, and what it would mean for everyone who loves him should he be found. These books also show the close interest that Athena, as patron of Odysseus, takes in his family. She steps into the chaos of Ithaca and gives Telemachus the inspiration to embark on his own journey, chasing the ghost of his still-living father.
When we finally reach Odysseus, he is not the same man that those who knew him in Troy described. They are the closest Telemachus can come to knowing what came of his father, but even they are separated by nearly a decade and the breadth of the sea. Penelope hasn't laid eyes on her husband in twenty years, there is no overestimating what that can do to a person's memory. Odysseus's first action is to cry. When finally Calypso is forced to allow Odysseus to leave, by order of Hermes, he makes his own raft and leaves at the first possible moment. He is fighting against the will of Poseidon, against the wrath he incurred, all alone. He has lost every single one of his men, every single person who could ever vouch for his identity, in a world where no one could recognize him, is gone. Despite this, he is still fighting to get back to Ithaca.
Odysseus is so utterly human in the text. When he is hosted by Alcinous, Odysseus asks the singer there to recount the story of the Trojan Horse. It's like landing at the doorstep of a stranger who graciously allows you to stay and immediately asking his DJ to play *your own* greatest hits - which in turn only upsets him. This also sets up the dramatic reveal of his identity (I like to imagine him looking around like, you guys remember this one? Yeah that's Me, I pinkie promise. Please give me 4000 drachmae and your best oarsmen (: ).
He recounts the story of how he got so utterly lost on the way back and one thing the Odyssey will tell you, to your face over and over again, is that Odysseus is a big time liar. But for some reason, his tale is so compelling it's hard to remind yourself of that when hearing it for the first time. Some points are so beyond baffling (like striking Polyphemus in the singular eye the poor sod has, and then once to the safety of his boat (which is on open water, the domain of said cyclops's father) loudly announcing his full gods-given name and mailing address, just in case anyone missed who it was) that it's like, yeah that was probably exactly what he did. This is the section of the story where we see Odysseus as he sees himself. This is his own reflection of the actions he made and the troubles that befell him because of it.
Odysseus is such a complex character that one of the epithets he is given is "polytropos", the many-faced or many-sided. Odysseus and his relationship to his own identity, which he can shed and don at any point that's convenient for him, is one of the main reasons I am obsessed with his story. This, and the exploration in an ancient text about what a close relationship with a deity, is something I am constantly thinking about.

****
You wake up alone for the first time in a week this morning, already missing your husband’s heat.
It’s your second week living in your new house, but Javi was only able to take that one last off to help you get everything settled. He let you decorate for the most part, which was wonderful because you basically just ordered him around for muscle.
He was so sweet and helpful the entire time, not giving you a single complaint at all. You want the couch to go against the opposite wall? He’s on it. Need that picture in the dining room hung higher? As good as done.
You think there’s only a couple boxes left to unpack in the guest room, and then you’ll be done. It’s mostly small stuff, apart from a dresser that needs to be assembled, so you should be able to do it yourself before Javi gets home tonight.
Mentally planning your day, you stretch and yawn before pulling the covers back and sliding from the bed. You decide as you get dressed that you’ll make a batch of muffins for breakfast, that way Javi will have something quick to grab when he leaves for work in the mornings.
You make your way to the kitchen, yawning again even though the clock shows it’s past nine. You can’t lie to yourself, it’s been nice having the entire day to do whatever you want, without having to worry about getting the bills paid. It was a little hard to transition into not working, but Javi takes such good care of you that it’s hard to stress about it.
You keep waiting for the day where you feel the urge to find a job again, but it hasn’t happened yet, and you’re not eager to rush it. You really do think you can get used to this whole ‘staying at home’ thing. Especially now that you and Javi aren’t being particularly careful about sex anymore. You need to be prepared to stay home with your kids whenever that happens.
You’re not rushing that either, if you’re being honest, but you wouldn’t be upset if you found yourself pregnant. It makes you smile, thinking of mini Javis running around your house, playing in the pastures or on a tire swing hung from the big tree out front. Javi would make such a good father too; he’s so thoughtful and attentive.
You sigh as you start to mix ingredients for your muffins, turning on the radio beforehand to distract yourself. The last thing you need right now is baby fever, you’ve just taken a big life step already.
You hum along and sway your hips to the soft music as you work, occupying your mind by trying to mentally plan how you’ll be decorating the guest room. A few moments later, you slip the tray into the oven and set the timer before heading back down the hall.
The room is mostly put together; the last of the belongings mostly small decor or whatever didn’t fit somewhere else in the house. It was unspokenly decided between you and Javi that this room would hold the junk closet.
You open the first box and find that it contains pictures. You don’t mean to snoop too much, but you can’t help but analyze each one. They’re mostly old family portraits, though a couple of them are just of dogs, which confuses you as much as it makes you laugh.
You realize once again how strange your situation is as you pick out Javi’s siblings and parents. How is it that you’re married to a man whose family you’ve never met? The only relative you’ve heard him talk about before is his dad. You wouldn’t want to pry though if it was a sensitive topic, so you decide on waiting for him to open up to you when he’s ready.
You’re just finishing propping up all the photos on their shelf when you hear the timer go off from the kitchen. The muffins are perfectly done, so you pull them out to let them cool off. You glance at the clock and decide that you’ll have enough time to plant some flowers.
Javi had made these absolutely gorgeous wooden planters for you to put outside the house, and you’ve been waiting until you had time to yourself to fill them. Javi also assisted you in picking out what flowers would go in there—orange Marigolds. They look beautiful in contrast to the white siding of the house.
Since you’ve moved in, you’ve fallen so deeply in love with the old farm house. It’s honestly the house you always pictured as a girl when you would dream about your future. The big porch, the intricate vintage details, the rolling hills in the background. You just can’t believe that you’re here already, that Javi brought you here.
You get misty eyed thinking about it, gratitude swelling once again in your chest. Your eyes land on the flowers laid out to be planted and you realize you’ve been smiling like an idiot. Shaking yourself out of it, you flip on the radio you brought from the kitchen and get to work.
You savor the feeling of the sun beating down on you and the gentle breeze cooling you. It feels so nice to be outside with this weather when you’re not working your ass off on a farm.
The rest of the day is spent exactly as you had it planned. You finish planting, wash up a bit, finish the guest room, and read a bit before you have to start dinner. It’s a relatively busy day, but it doesn’t feel like work. It’s nice, getting things done in your own house.
You have just enough time to get dinner ready and pop it into the oven before you hear the front door open. Your stomach flutters as a grin spreads across your face. You had a great day, but nothing you did could top the feeling of being in your husband’s arms.
“Javi?” you call out as you start to walk back to the entryway, wiping your hands off on a dish towel. You wonder if he can smell what you just put in the oven—it’s his favorite. You grow a little concerned when he doesn’t answer right away.
“Baby?” you ask again.
Javi is silently toeing his boots off when you round the corner and walk to him. Your stomach drops along with your dish towel when you see the somber expression on his face.
“Honey, what’s wrong?” you ask gently, stepping toward him and reaching your hands out. He meets you halfway and pulls you into a comforting hug. You can feel the way he deflates against you as if all of his stress suddenly disappears when he holds you.
The combination of his raw emotion and the way he uses one hand to smooth down your hair makes tears spring to your eyes. You’re not used to him looking so distraught.
“I have some news, carino,” Javi says after a moment. His words are quiet but you can sense the urgency behind them. You loosen your grip to allow him to take a step back. He crouches down slightly in front of you so that you’re looking down at him.
“I received my promotion today,” he says, taking your hands and watching your face scrunch in confusion.
“But isn’t that a good thing?” you ask. “I know how long you’ve been waiting for this, Javi. What’s the matter?” You don’t understand why he would be upset by such a thing. Javi nods and takes a deep breath.
“Yes, baby, it was supposed to be a good thing. They offered me almost double what I’m making right now,” he says. By his tone of voice, you can tell that there is more to be said.
“That’s great,” you say, though it sounds more like a question than anything. “What do you mean ‘offered’?”
“They gave me a choice,” he says after another deep breath. “I only get the promotion if I relocate.” you jerk your head back slightly. What kind of shitty deal is that? He must see your train of thought in your expression because he quickly elaborates.
“I don’t have to accept the offer, of course, but I won’t get the promotion if I don’t. Things will just stay as they have been.”
“Well, where do they want you to relocate?” you ask even through the sour taste in your mouth at the thought of leaving this house. You don’t like the look he gives you when you do.
“Colombia,” he looks hard into your eyes as they widen.
“What, like West Columbia? The city?” you ask, bewildered. “There’s no way they mean... They can’t do that, can they?”
Javi sighs again and nods. You wish he would stop doing that.
“Not the city, sweetheart. And yes, apparently they can,” his words are gentle but with a bitter bite as he lets go of one of your hands to cup your cheek.
“But we just moved in,” you say, your voice sounds small as you look down at him. He gazes back at you, and you can see the desperation in his eyes. He wants this so much, and you can’t be the thing that holds him back, no matter how much it sucks for you.
As much as you might not want to move again, you would do anything for your husband. He’s done so much for you, it’s the least you could do. You owe him so much. Still, there’s that painful twist in your chest at the thought of leaving all this behind when you just got it.
But you know that if it were you in his position and him in yours, he would tell you to take the promotion in a heartbeat. You’re being selfish right now, you need to think about what he wants. You can’t disappoint him.
“I know, baby. I asked if I could have a few days to think about it so I could see where you would be on it. I can still tell them no.” You flinch slightly at the impatience ebbing into his tone. It’s hard to pick out, but it’s there. It makes your cheeks heat and you feel for a second like a child being scolded. You don’t want him to be upset with you.
“No!” you say a bit too quickly. “Sorry, I just-” you struggle to find the words. “I want this for you, Javi, and I’m here to support you in whatever you choose. I know how badly you want this, and if you decide to relocate, then that’s what I want, too.”
He smiles up at you, and you can’t help but to smile back. It’s true, you’ll do anything for him.
“Are you sure, sweetheart?” he asks, his eyes unable to hide the glint of hope that shines in them.
“Yes, of course I’m sure. I’ll start packing tonight if you want,” you giggle and lean down to slot your lips with his.
He wraps his arms around you as he stands up, picking you up with him. Your legs instinctually cross at the ankles behind him.
“Thank you, baby,” he says once he positions you so that your back is against the wall. “Knew you would understand. You’re too good to me.”
You perk up even more as he praises you. All the annoyance has left his tone and you allow yourself to take a breath of relief. There’s a clear admiration in the way he looks at you right now, his eyes softening as he slowly dips back down to kiss you.
He thrusts his hips forward, stimulating your clit with the bulge in his jeans. You moan into his mouth as you grind down, seeking more friction. Your lips feel swollen when Javi releases them to suck at your neck.
“Oh, Javi, more, please,” you beg, making him chuckle lowly.
“I’ve got you, baby. Gonna make you feel good,” he whispers into your ear, making you shiver.
He wastes no time on unbuttoning your pants and letting you down to slide them down your legs along with your panties. It only takes a second before you’re right back where you started, only this time without anything between your cunt and his cock but his own pants.
“Gonna get you ready for me, pretty girl,” Javi says breathily as he brings his thumb up to circle at your clit. You keen as he immediately begins to rub in hard and fast motions.
As if that wasn’t enough, he takes his thumb away for only a second so he can gather spit in his mouth and lean over you to dribble it right over your sensitive bud. You gasp as the saliva begins to cool from the air of the hall.
Suddenly, his thumb is back, continuing its assault.
“God, feels s-so good,” you moan as Javi starts to nip and suck at your neck again, no doubt leaving a gathering of hickies behind. You can feel your toes beginning to curl and heat rise to your upper body. It’s not going to take long before you’re coming for the first time tonight.
“Fuckin’ soaked already, baby. Gonna make it so I’ll slide right in. My perfect fuckin’ girl. Always so good, so ready for me.”
Javi’s rambling sets you off, you don’t even have a chance to warn him before your body begins to tremble. You’re pretty sure you shout his name between moans, but it could have been anything.
“There you go,” Javi praises. “Such a good girl, so pretty when you come for me.”
You hear the rattle of his belt buckle as he shifts your weight to his other hand and one of his thighs. You look down as he tugs on himself, his red tip poking out from his fist as he moves his hips to line his cock up with your soaked cunt.
He grips your chin and kisses you fiercely as he pushes in, shoving his tongue into your mouth at the same time. Your sharp whine is smothered by his tongue licking into you, and your eyes roll to the back of your head from feeling so full.
He thrusts up heavily, effortlessly knocking the breath out of your lungs with each slam of his hips. Your back jots up the wall despite Javi’s best efforts in bringing you down to him. He lets one hand trail up to cradle the back of your head so that it doesn’t hit the wall with the force that he’s shoving up into you with.
“You’re so tight for me sweetheart, taking my cock so good,” he pulls away just enough to breathe out the words.
You clench around him, still not used to the filth that spews from his mouth when he gets his dick wet.
“Yeah, you fuckin’ love that don’t you.”
You nod as much as you can while focusing on the way his tip is punching into your cervix. You can feel another orgasm approaching, and you start to tense and keen from the intensity of it. Your legs start to shake around him and Javi increases the grip he has on your hip.
“There you go, take it just like that baby girl,” he grits.
You let your head rest on his shoulder, weakly mouthing his neck, salty and slick with sweat. Your arms tighten around him in an attempt to hold on, but you can feel your mind numbing from the euphoric feeling building up in your abdomen and spreading through the rest of your body.
“Give it to me, I can feel it baby,” Javi groans, picking up his pace. The increase makes the slaps coming from where your bodies have fused together echo through the hall, your wetness splattering on your thighs with each smack.
There’s a sharp tap to your clit with each thrust, and you’re coming around his cock with a scream before you realize you’d been that close in the first place. You feel your body melt as your husband nips at your jaw in an attempt of holding his composure.
“Oh that’s so fucking good sweetheart, come all over my cock just like that. Messy fucking pussy,” Javi continues to talk you through it, bringing the hand from your head back to your clit as you moan wildly.
“Who makes this cunt feel good, huh?”
“Y-you do, Javi, you do,” you cry as you come back down from your high.
“Yeah? Who’s cock? Who’s cock do you fucking cry on?”
“Ah—Yours, Javi!”
“Goddamn it—such a g-good girl…”
You nod into his neck, your brows furrowing as he keeps pushing up into you. He slams one hand onto the wall beside your head to hold himself up for balance as he pummels into you to bring himself closer to the edge. Javi grunts and groans into your ear like a mad man, rapidly chasing after his pleasure.
You barely register an overstimulated tear run down your ruddy cheek at the feeling of his cock continuing to spread you open and nail that spot deep inside of you. A pleasured sob escapes your closed mouth as he keeps manipulating your limp body.
“Gonna come in this pussy, fill you up so f-fucking full,” he claims right before his pace begins to falter. His hips jerk and he comes with a muffled grunt, his fingers gripping you hard enough to leave bruises for later.
He lifts your head and takes your mouth again, moaning into your swollen lips as he stills inside of you. It’s a complete mess, all tongues and teeth clashing together out of pure hunger. When he pulls his head back, you’re both panting and staring into each other’s eyes with heavy lids, both of you thoroughly exhausted. Enough so that you don’t recognize the burning smell floating down the hall until now.
Javi’s eyes narrow as yours widen, your mouth falling as well. He glances down at where you're still connected to make sure you’re not hurt.
“What’s the matter?”
You bite your bottom lip, waiting for him to smell what should have been dinner. He gets it after a moment, his eyes softening and a—dare you say giggle—tumbles from his full lips.
“Yeah,” you confirm his silent suspicions, smiling despite the inconvenience. “You might need to go grab us some dinner.”

Cillian Murphy x Reader
cillian is a patient in a psychiatric hospital and you are his nurse
sorry english isn’t my first language
I didn't correct a single word of this
Tumblr media
You had studied two careers at the young age of 23, certainly those years you had not been able to make many friends after so much study but it had been worth it because you had two degrees, one in Psychiatry and the other in nursing. You had barely finished your degree, you had practically run to get a job and you quickly did it in a psychiatric hospital where they needed new employees.
They needed you especially to take care of one of their patients, a man called “Cillian” who apparently had been there for several years, from what your colleagues had told you was that he was a very difficult man to deal with and that he never talked more than necessary, he did not like to be spoken to because it annoyed him.
When you finally took care of him, he didn’t complain or even say anything, although you could tell how it annoyed him when you talked or exceeded the number of questions he asked, it took a while until he started talking to you and started telling more about him. himself, at first it was very good because it really seemed like he was making progress but max was not making progress but rather he was creating an obsession for you.
The last few weeks had become strange because you always found him hanging around your room waiting for you to arrive asking you to talk to him or even just to stay in his presence and the other doctors came looking for him because he had to leave he would get angry and hit them so much that he always ended up being injected with a tranquilizer, you thought that this couldn’t go on like this so every time he had to go back to his room you personally accompanied him with the security of hundreds of cameras watching that nothing happened to you.
One day you had to miss work because your sister was very sick, you found out that he almost killed the nurse who was taking care of him because it wasn’t you, you got so scared that you almost didn’t want to go back to work but you knew you had to because what if he was trying to murder someone else and this time he succeeded, you would never be able to forgive yourself.
He saw you in the distance when you came back and deep down he was glad that you hadn’t abandoned him. As soon as you entered the place, you looked at him for a few seconds and then you walked away, going to your own living room to order some things that had been left pending and not You noticed but moments later he made sure to follow you without anyone noticing.
He entered your room without warning, which scared you but you tried to stay calm, he entered and closed the door while telling you, “I thought you had abandoned me”, you did not answer him instantly but then you did, “I was busy with some business Cillian”, he smiled at that at the fact that you called his name.
“I think you know you couldn’t leave me even if you wanted to,” he sounded so sure of his words as he leaned back on the sofa there. “After what I heard, I wouldn’t leave anyone with you.” “I’m glad of that because you’re the only one I need every moment of the day”, you saw him approach you and take you by the arm to say those words which you felt go through your whole body like a chill.
“I won’t leave your side”, “Well I’m glad for that”, he answered you with a smile and letting go of your arm to walk away again. “But please don’t try to kill anyone else.” He turned to see you and smiled and nodded making you feel safe, “One day when I get out of here we can be together and our children can have a happy family.”
At that moment you just looked at him scared by what he had just said and you didn’t know how to react so before you even said anything he left you alone.
You were afraid of what could happen later but now it was too late to change even something, you would have to wait to see what the future held for you with a madman by your side who would kill anyone for you and dreamed of a perfect family.

One thing that's had me thinking about Amy lately, is the tension between disgust and desire. She is horrified by the immensity of her desire for Victoria, but the shame and guilt over it can only ever make it worse. Fear and arousal, disgust and desire, all of them bleed into each other (we see this constantly in both porn and horror). It's like she has this splinter at the core of her being and she either cant realize or wont accept that the more and more she digs for it to try to get it out, the deeper she's driving it into herself. She cannot remove this without help from someone else. (Coincidentally, not being able to recognize that her attempts to do/be what she's supposed to are only making things worse is also what leads to the Enwretchening)
I'm aware there's a reading of Worm in which Amy's attraction to Victoria is purely an expression of a kind of morality focused ocd, but I personally think that's less interesting. She definitely experiences some level of that (the urge to fuck up a baby she's healing followed by disgust with herself is like a perfect example of an intrusive thought associated with that brand of ocd), but I think this is a case of *and* rather than *or*. My reading of Amy is that of a deeply lonely and emotionally neglected child clinging to the one person in her life that gives her any form of affection, whose attachment only gets increasingly complicated as she starts to grow up and realizes she is attracted to women.
She has never been treated as part of the family, has always felt on some level that she's only playing at being a sister to Victoria, and she is dealing with that during a stage of her life that is turbulent at best for even people raised in a healthy functional environment. There is a broad cultural taboo around sex and desire, but there's a special sort of self-loathing and fear that you're somehow predatory for finding someone attractive that a lot of queer people experience due to the stigma surrounding their sexuality and/or gender. Homoeroticism and attraction is seen as disgusting and fundamentally wrong by society no matter what. It is especially disastrous for Amy because even though she's never been able to see herself as Victoria's sister, she knows she's supposed to, and that adds a whole new layer of guilt and shame to even a passing thought about Victoria being attractive.
Then she triggers. Suddenly she not only has to pretend to be Amy Dallon the well behaved unintrusive family member, she has to be Panacea, the girl who performs miracles. She doesn't even have a secret identity to fall back on for privacy because of New Wave's gimmick. Any resentment about her role, or desire to live a normal life become more proof that she is a sick, evil person; a parasite who has wormed her way into the Good and Heroic Dallon-Pelham family and is eating away at them from the inside-out.
Even as it forces her to repress more and more of herself, Panacea also offers Amy what is seemingly her only chance to be Good like her family. Healing people isn't just something she has to do in order to avoid being a terrible person, but also how she can atone for everything else that's Bad about her. Saving people is a way to try to purge herself of the desire for Victoria, and to prove that she can be a Dallon in more than name.
Like, as awful and lesbophobic as Wildbow's handling of Amy was, there is something deeply compelling and even relatable about her to me. She perfectly captures an emotional state that I've struggled (and failed) to explain as I wrote and rewrote this post. It's the hunger, the guilt, the shame, the fear, the loneliness that settles on your skin like frost as a child when you accept that there must be something wrong with you, because if there wasn't then you wouldn't have to try so hard to be good.

idk if you’ve been asked this before but what are your thoughts on reid lashing out at jj about the whole emily thing in season 7?
my thoughts are that it's too complicated to say i'm on either one's side </3
JJ fucking pissed me off with the later Jeid storyline but I liked her at the beginning of the show -> onwards until p much right there, so I tried not to let that letdown influence my retrospective on the s7 situation.
JJ was following highly classified, highly important government orders. Her boss told her to keep her mouth shut for safety reasons, and as someone who's seen countless friends and family members suffer because intel got loose, I can understand why she'd adhere so firmly to the guidelines. She was a good agent.
However, Reid requires stability and consistency in his environment, as he is at a high risk for slipping back into his addiction + developing symptoms of his mother's illness (which, if i remember correctly, were teased but never actually confirmed in him. My point is, he's an at-risk individual who was thrown into grief). I can completely understand how finding out that the shoulder you cried on for months and months and months was actually lying to you about the source of your grief would make someone angry. I actually think he deserved to be angry, he had the right to be angry, but then things become muddled when you ask me if i think he had the right to be angry at JJ.
Personally, I think I'd initially feel very betrayed if I were Spencer, even if i worked it out later. But again, JJ was following orders to keep Emily alive, and if she had confessed and compromised the undercover operation, Emily would have been killed.
I think, in the actual scene, JJ had absolutely no right to tell him that if he was a better profiler, he'd have been able to figure things out. I thought it was a really low blow for her, especially knowing that he'd been so devastated over his friend's 'death'. I understand that his anger caught her off guard, and she felt unjustly blamed, and I might have been upset or torn too in her position. But the way that she handled it was highly unprofessional and something a petty teenager would say and then reluctantly apologize for once they discover their actions have consequences.
I think that Reid basically pouting during work hours and letting his personal feelings affect his work (y'know, saving lives) was also highly unprofessional. However, the issue was that the entire situation revolved around his work in the first place, and Emily just like slipped right back in?? so he had zero time to process anything and I don't know if I'd be able to separate my feelings from my job either.
I don't blame Spencer for not feeling like he could trust JJ/his team after that, at least not as deeply as he used to. I don't blame JJ for feeling hurt that Spencer took his anger out on her rather than the general situation/even Hotch who gave JJ the orders, and told Spencer he was responsible for it.
it bothers me when Spencer stans will demonize JJ for it while refusing to acknowledge Spencer's missteps, and it pisses me off when JJ likers use it to call Reid a petty toddler without considering his feelings on the matter. All in all, it was a complicated, messy situation with no completely right or wrong side, in my opinion.

Hi..... Can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from JJK? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series (until now)? Thanks....
No problem. It gives me a great excuse to whip out this image of my top 9 jjk faves
Tumblr media
They're not in order here, but compared to other categories, I don't actually have such a hard time ranking characters.
Kenjaku
I've talked about them a bunch, most recently on the last ask about my favourite characters, so I'll just summarize what I love about them: mad scientist + family drama + trans + chill & genre-savvy + Japanese history + body snatcher
2. Yuuji
Also like him for how he's a pretty unusual shonen protagonist. He's not overpowered, he doesn't want to become the jujutsu king/kage/president and almost every shonen mc trope he does exhibit gets punished or beaten out of him. He nontheless doesn't lose his base compassion for people. That compassion is also what will drive him to kill if he has to, something for the few people he actually hates. He's selfless to the point of suicidal. His whole character arc(s) revolves around him finding a satisfying way to die and now being forced to also find a satisfying reason to live (with how jjk is going, I don't think he'll find that but he's not able to die either). His conflicts with the villains are deeply personal, he doesn't just challenge them on the basis of them breaking the law or being some nebulous depiction of a bad person. That's how it starts out, but he can't beat them on that basis alone. He was only able to really hurt Mahito and defeat him after he accepted their personal connection and similarities.
3. Tengen
Problematic conservative grandma. She's really the root of all of the problems in jujutsu society, she's the one who build up the entire basis of the series from world building to the antagonists. Without her Kenjaku wouldn't be who they are right now, they would likely not try to challenge the system and forcefully advance humanity in the way they do and might even be dead for hundreds of years. Gojo wouldn't exist without her either. Riko wouldn't either and she also wouldn't have died the way she did. Same for Yuki. Sukuna might largely be influenced by her as well. She's responsible for so much of what's happening in the series, but gets all too easily overlooked both in-universe and outside. Her whole backstory is so fascinating, her relationship to Kenjaku drives me crazy and I do find her stubborn, kinda grumpy personality quite charming. Also gnc as fuck.
4. Uraume
While in Sukuna's case I really care more about his backstory than him as a person and find his personality not that exciting, it's the opposite for Uraume. I do want that Heian flashback and also see where Uraume came from and how they met Sukuna, but what I really like about them is their personality. At first glance they appear so calm and collected, just a loyal servant without much autonomy, but they're actually so much more. There's so much passion in them, they are so easy to tick off and always ready for violence. Especially in combination with Kenjaku they are so entertaining. I need to see them cook more often. Preferably human. That brief glimpse we got when they prepared Sukuna's bath was so good. The way they pinned down and sliced up those curses without destroying them...I want to see them do the same with humans.
5. Angel
Heian era's craziest paladin. I just love how hypocritical and bloodthirsty she is. She has her sense of justice and right and wrong, she doesn't pretend like everyone has to agree with it, but she will still mercilessly kill everyone in her way or who she just doesn't like for one reason or another. If Kenjaku is a social butterfly, she's a social caterpillar. I miss her just blatently telling the protagonists that she doesn't care about their goals or innocent people dying. She must have been wonderful to witness in politics. I'm really curious how her relationship to the Abe clan looked liked. It's such a shame that all that got toned down, so Sukuna didn't get one-shotted and Gojo could be freed. The volume 24 extra show though that Gege does care about her or at least her technique, giving me some hope that she will actually get something to do again soon. Once we get her backstory, she could easily rank above Uraume. Btw, I want more panels where Angel is just a mouth. No Hana, just that mouth with a monotone background and overly detailed teeth. It looks so fantastically creepy.
Favourite Moments
1. Kenjaku talking to Kogane
Tumblr media
It's just such a good moment that does a lot for Kenjaku's characterization, their goals and relationship to Tengen (and arguably also Yuuji). Still feeling pretty ambivalent about ch222, but this was undeniably a highlight. It has had a tight grip on my mind ever since. I could write whole essays about it, starting with the scenary of it all. Kenjaku sitting alone, the only one in focus and the only one in the light, while being in front of a game console with two controllers that remain untouched and without a game running while talking to someone/something that/who can't hear them or can't understand them. Kogane is basically just a computer. It can't give insightful answers or challenge Kenjaku's beliefs, while Tengen has also lost all autonomy and most of her personality I assume. She also can't talk back, probably can't hear them and isn't even there, but Kenjaku still directs their musings at her, knowing she won't/can't answer, but still asking for her input, challenging her and leaving space for what would be her own words. They hate her, but also want her to do better and this scene really shows that while Kenjaku's plans my succeed, they probably won't get what they really want.
2. Yuuji chasing Mahito
Tumblr media
Pretty easy pick. I'm really looking forward to seeing this animated soon. It's not just the beautiful imagery or how their roles have now reversed, but also what leads up to it. Yuuji accepts who he is, how he is not so different from Mahito. He discards any pretence of high and mighty reasons for why Mahito should die and embraces his hate. He's not pretending to be any better than Mahito, no "I'm not gonna kill you because I'm not like you", he says with absolute senserity that he will kill Mahito as many times as it takes. He's gonna hunt him down just like Mahito did. It's also the start of Yuuji giving into the role jujutsu society has put him in and starts thinking of himself as a cog, a mere object that serves others and blindly obeys its function (killing curses). I think getting Sukuna out of his body was the start to him evolving past that thinking, but this was a very necessary step. He needs to be broken down before being build back up. It was a great end for Mahito as a character as well.
3. Kenjaku & Tengen get Sukuna's body
Tumblr media
This whole scene is so interesting. Like in the first moment it's basically just Kenjaku talking to their hand puppets again, but this time there's a bit more outside input. Ngl, the mere fact that Kenjaku and Tengen are together, talking to each other and working with each other excites me already. There's not much of Tengen's consciousness left and she can't actually refuse anything Kenjaku does, but their interactions were still very fascinating. What's also interesting is how they (both of them) treat Sukuna's corpse. They stroll up to it so casually, as if they have done it in the past. Kenjaku asks Tengen if they can take it and she says yes, but neither of them consider Sukuna and his wishes in all this. Kenjaku even jokes that it's their souvenir for him. It makes me so curious about how they are connected to him and what kind of relationship the three used to have. It gets even better now that we know that Tengen was the one who prepared his corpse (without his knowledge) and Kenjaku was the one who turned Sukuna into a cursed object. These two have clearly passed around Sukuna's corpse between them before. "Do you mind if I take his fingers?" "No, go ahead, I don't need them" This scene gets better and better as the story progresses.
4. MCs meeting Tengen
Tumblr media
Speaking of scenes that get better with time, ch145 and 146 have been one of my favourites for a long time. They have to be on this list for how many times I've reread them alone. The more information and backstory we get, the more interesting this whole info dump becomes. There are always little phrases and moments that become a lot more meaning full on a reread. We also got so many hints. Tengen's connection to the Star Plasma Vessels and Six Eyes, Yuki being able to hear the other SPVs, Tengen and Kenjaku's relationship (many hcs were spawned by Tengen casually calling Kenjaku a child and I'm happy to see that many of them are turning out to be true), the first hints at Kenjaku's plan, even though a lot of depth was missing of course and Tengen underestimates some of their reasoning and end goals, and Tengen's utter failure to understand Kenjaku as a person (they aren't even that shy to talk about their reasons, especially to her! grandma please...).
5. Noritoshi preparing to die/visiting his mother
Tumblr media
It's this scene of Noritoshi finding his mother again plus the context of her side of the story at the end of the Sakurajima colony and Maki's advice re matricide that really moves me. Probably Noritoshi's best scene so far. I really hope the reason he isn't with the others is because he went back to his mother to finally talk to her openly. I swear, these two are so horrible at communicating. It's so heartbreaking to see Noritoshi lose all will to live and being ready to die in battle to do at least something useful with his life. He dedicated everything to changing the Kamo from within for his mother, only to get kicked out of the clan and find out that his mother has moved on. Everything he has done so far becomes meaningless. However, it is what comes afterwards that makes it even more clear how toxic his mindset was. Noritoshi thinks poetic words about how he's gonna die for his friends, only to be interrupted by Daido and Miyo. It shows that this way of thinking is entirely unnecessary and something he has to break out of. It's what sets him on the right path to reunite with his mother. Kenjaku forced him out of the clan and gave him no way to return. His mother showed him that there is a way to live a happy life despite the abuse both of them suffered from the Kamo clan, it is possible to move on. Daido & Miyo disrupted his suicidal thoughts and took over the fight for him aka he has to rely on others and accept their "help" without giving anythign in return. Maki taught him that there might be a way to reconnect with his mother and that he should ask all the questions he has for her regarding his purpose and name openly. I really didn't care much for Noritoshi before, but this whole arc elevated him so much for me.

“It’s still OK for tonight, right?”
Felix was your best friend since you were in diapers. Your families were friends, so you went to a muggle school and did everything together, even though you were a halfblood from your dad’s side.
When Felix got his letter from Hogwarts, the first thing he thought of doing was run to your house and excitedly shake it in front of your face. With a rather shocked expression—mouth wide open kind of shock—, you showed him yours. It was so unlikely to happen; you had prepared yourself for months to tell him you wouldn’t be able to go to secondary school with him. And finally, against all odds, he was going with you at Hogwarts.
You remember when he told your dad after learning about his bloodline, eyes wide and shiny, “y/dad/n, I’ve never noticed!”
You’ve been sorted into the same house and, four years later, you still don’t know if it was your will to stay by your best friend’s side or your personality that put you in Hufflepuff. Maybe both.
“Of course, Lix.”
One of Felix’s favorite spots at Hogwarts was the Astronomy tower. It was the tallest one of the castle, surrounded by a parapet and turret, and without a doubt the best spot to look at the sky —especially the stars and the moon. It was usually out-of-bounds except for classes but Felix was determined to spend quality time with you there every chance he got.
“Cool. I’ll bring snacks.”
The second favorite spot of your best friend was the kitchen. He found the entrance on a rainy Sunday during his first year. He was so bored he decided to touch every inanimate object in every painting of the whole castle —I agree it’s a rather odd hobby—, until the green pear in a painting of a bowl of fruit in the donjons giggled and turned into a large green door handle. When he entered, he faced a dozen house elves smiling and bowing to him, proposing tea and snacks. They were all wearing the same tea towel, draped like a toga, bearing the Hogwarts’ crest.
Ever since, you have been going to the Astronomy tower together with some food to share as you observed the stars, and sometimes your gaze shifted to the freckles on his soft looking face. You often thought the galaxy had nothing on them.
Tonight, however, as you left the common room to go to the Astronomy tower a few minutes after Felix, your luck left you. You only got to walk a few meters before none other than the head boy of Slytherin, Minghao you recalled, spotted you and mercilessly gave you detention for “wandering the castle’s alleyways in the middle of the night”. Shoulders down, you were forced to go back to your dorms, without the possibility of warning Felix —none of you had an owl.
Felix waited for you for two whole hours, mindlessly picking at the food he brought. Thinking you bailed on him, he got upset and sad, and eventually came back to sleep around three.
The next morning, he didn’t wait for you and directly went to eat breakfast. When you entered the Great Hall, Felix was eating and talking to Sanha. Feeling a hand on your shoulder, you turned your head; It was Soobin.
“He seemed a bit tense when he got up. What happened?”
You pouted. “I got caught.”
“Ah shoot. Come on, let’s eat.” You adored Soobin, he always knew how to comfort you (read: he doesn’t). Felix did his best to ignore you; it was unsure who was the most hurt by the other.
“Lix,” you called as you sat in front of him, “I’m sorry about last night. Minghao saw me and gave me detention.”
His eyes softened as he looked up at you. So much for being upset. He was relieved you didn’t stand him up. Not that you would… He just got insecure.
“It’s okay, I had fun with…” He was searching for some smart remark but couldn’t come up with anything. He was nervous. “Actually, I practiced the red sparks charm.”
“I bet you’ve mastered it by now,” teased Sanha.
“I waited for you in the common room. I revised for the care of magical creatures test but I almost fell asleep so I went to sleep,” you explained, deliberately ignoring Sanha.
“Are you going to keep breaking the rules for the sake of your little nightly dates the whole year?” asked Soobin, seriousness in his voice.
You snorted, finding the date allusions delusional, although the more you thought about it, the more your cheeks burned. Meanwhile, Felix choked on his pumpkin juice.
“We don’t—”
“That’s not—”
“You know friendly dates exist, right? Why are you getting into a stew? That’s suspicious.” Soobin snickered along the brown haired boy, amused by your alarmed states. For the rest of the breakfast, Felix and you avoided looking at each other.
(っ◔◡◔)っ ✿
To no one’s surprise, Felix got the highest score on his care of magical creatures test about nifflers, while you got an E, which was a good score; you did revise after all.
During recess, Soobin wanted to work on his divination essay, or at least try to come up with something tangible. Felix helped Jeongin out with a flobberworm issue and Sanha preferred to find out how close he could get to the Whomping Willow without getting crushed. You had to work on a charms assignment but this was more interesting.
Soon, clusters of different houses and ages came to see the show. Sanha spent a few minutes carefully getting closer and dodging some branches, but couldn’t avoid the last one. He flew three meters away, his face first on the mud, under the laughing and clapping of the crowd.
You ran to him, suppressing a snort. “You okay?”
“Sure, that was fun,” he smiled as he dusted off his robes and pants. “Fancy trying?”
“Absolutely not, thanks. Come on, we’re going to be late for potions.”
“We still have t—”
The ringing sound shut him up.
You pointed your wand to his muddy face and whispered: “Tergeo.” All the dirt got sucked by your wand. He thanked you then followed you into the dungeons, where Felix and Soobin were already talking.
“Sanha, what’s with your robes? Is that… a tree bark?” asked Felix as he took a piece of crust out of his robes to take a closer look.
“Yeah, I almost touched the Whomping Willow’s trunk but a branch got me first.”
“You’re living dangerously,” laughed Soobin, quickly followed by the group.
The glee quickly died down when the potions professor opened the door of his classroom.
“I’m sure you’re having fun, however I’ll deduct twenty points to whoever laughs during my class,” the professor said with his usual monotonous voice. Several students sighed as you walked to your table next to your best friends.
“Today we’ll brew the Pepperup potion. Can anyone tell me what this potion does?” Almost immediately, Sanha raised his hand. “Yoon?”
“It cures the common cold and warms up the recipient.”
“Indeed. Five points for Hufflepuff. Now, who can tell me the inventor of this potion?”
Again, Sanha’s hand raised first. “Glover Hipworth, sir.”
“Good, five more points for Hufflepuff.”
Sanha loved potions, to state the obvious, and he had a remarkable memory. While he was impressive for knowing every detail about any potion, from the ingredients needed to the fun facts, Soobin’s area of expertise was preparing them. One could say they made a good team.
Felix and you weren’t that bad either, you always prepared your potions almost perfectly. What was for sure was that you never burned a cauldron or made any potion explode, which was more than Renjun and Jeno could say. The pair of Ravenclaws never seemed to stay away from trouble in this class.
Later that day, Felix and Seungmin were looking at the House Points hourglasses, debating on who had the most points when they saw fifteen sapphire gems being deducted. They looked at each other and the younger one sighed.
“Who do you think it is, this time?”
“Probably Jisung,” the Ravenclaw student answered. “I swear, he’ll be the death of me,” he wailed, rubbing his forehead with the palm of his hand like a tired-of-life man.
Felix tried his best not to laugh, feeling sorry for him. They parted ways after that, Felix going to the care of magical creatures class while Seungmin went to ancient runes.
Your best friend was outside, on his way to the edge of the forest when you spotted him from afar. Running to him, you tripped on your own feet and fell on his back. Due to the fact he didn’t see nor hear you coming, he couldn’t prepare himself for the impact, meaning he fell head first into the grass, his arms up in a dramatic way. As you got up, you profusely apologized for your clumsiness.
Felix sweetly smiled at you, and, while you were helping him up, he said: “I’m okay, Y/N. Are you?”
“Oh, yeah, I’m good. Are you sure you are, though?”
“I am, promise. Let’s go, we’re gonna see fire crabs today!” he joyfully said, taking your hand in his to drag you along.
They were cute from afar but kind of intimidating, these crabs. You knew they could shoot flames from their rear end, but you also learned a lot: They were native to the Fiji Island, their multicolored jeweled shell was extremely valuable and they were an endangered species. Noting every important piece of information you heard on your parchment, you weren’t aware of Felix’s gaze on your face every now and then. He loved how you looked when you were focusing; brows slightly frowned and mouth forming a thin line.
He ignored the pain of his limbs as he watched you in adoration.
While going back to the castle, Sanha pointed to a puddle of mud next to the Whomping Willow with a proud smile. “We still see the imprint of my head when I fell in the mud this morning.”
(っ◔◡◔)っ ✿
First weekend of March, the fourth Quidditch match of the year was about to begin, opposing Gryffindor to Hufflepuff. Felix was in one of the towers, being the commentator of the match.
As a faithful best friend, you went to every match to cheer on your team, but especially Felix. No matter who won, as long as your best friend had fun up there.
Gryffindor won this match, 360 to 210… For their defense, Hufflepuff didn’t have Hyunjin, Chan and his partner. They were a force to be reckoned with.
Felix’s mood was down until after dinner, when, on his way to the dungeons with Soobin and Sanha, he heard the astronomy professor say there was going to be a meteor shower that night. She was disappointed that it was Saturday, because she couldn’t bring any class to show them.
But Felix could show you.
He ran to his common room, searching for you. Seated on the comfortable couch near the fireplace, you were doing your care of magical creatures assignment. When he spotted you, a smile even bigger than the one he already had adorned his lips and he came in front of you, panting a little.
“Are you okay?” you worriedly asked, putting your parchment and quill aside.
“Never better. Date tonight at one at the Astronomy tower?” He looked more excited than usual.
“What’s the occasion?”
“We don’t need one, but if you insist, there’s a meteor shower tonight.”
You beamed; you’ve always wanted to see one. “Okay, I’ll come.”
“Brilliant.”
Sanha and Soobin entered the common room together, sending a knowing look with a smirk at Felix then went to their dorm without a word. Following your best friend’s confused gaze, you saw your friends’ backs leaving the room through the round door leading to the boy dorms.
“Come sit with me, we’ll do our assignments then go to the Astronomy tower,” you proposed, and Felix gladly accepted.
You patiently waited for the common room to empty, and once your best friend and you were the only ones there, on the comfortable couch of your earthly favorite place of the castle, you put your stuff in a corner and left as discreetly as possible.
As you were carelessly running, hand in hand, to the tallest tower of the castle in the middle of the night, he exclaimed with a mischievous grin: “I promise Y/N, this meteor shower is going to be worth the detention!”
But you didn’t get detention that night. Instead, you watched a spectacular show in the sky next to your favorite person then went to bed, head full of stars, heart full of love.
“Don’t you think our friends’ smiles hit differently after their nightly date, Soobin?”
The four of you were seated at the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall for breakfast, Felix and you opposite your two tall friends.
“You’re right Sanha, it’s quite the view,” smirked the black haired boy, clearly mocking you and your best friend, who was quieter than usual.
Quickly glancing at him, his flushed cheeks made your own face warm up and you looked away, clearing your throat. Taking a long sip of pumpkin juice seemed more interesting than anything else at that moment, making you miss the noiseless laughs from across the table and the shy eyes stealthily gazing at you from your left.
(っ◔◡◔)っ ✿
“Felix, I appreciate your help on this essay, truly I do, but you’ve been staring at…” he followed his friend’s gaze, “the wall for a while now. Are you okay?”
Jeongin had asked Felix for help on his salamander essay, resulting in them being in the library, but the older one’s mind seemed to be elsewhere.
He shook his head and turned his attention to his friend. “Sorry, you were saying?”
“Are you okay?” he repeated.
“Yeah, sure. You wrote that salamanders live as long as the flames they were birthed from continue to burn, right?”
“Yes.”
“And you didn’t forget to note that scale rot, if left untreated, can cause a salamander’s tail to detach?”
“Noted.”
“And—”
“Felix,” Jeongin cut him off.
“Yeah?”
“I finished the essay ten minutes ago. Are you sure you’re okay?”
He loudly exhaled, earning a ‘shh’ from the librarian that was walking by, and put his head in his hands. “Was it easy for you to comprehend your own feelings?”
Jeongin was taken aback by the question. Of all people, Felix was asking him for advice. The thirteen year old who liked and was dating his cute Slytherin classmate for roughly a month.
“I asked for advice myself… but in the end, I knew it wasn’t just friendship.”
The older one looked up to his friend and pouted. “I think I like my best friend.”
Jeongin beamed, clapping quietly. “That’s so cool!”
“No, it’s not!” he whisper-shouted, receiving a quizzical stare. “What am I supposed to do?!”
“You’re not just asking me that.”
Frustration built inside the blonde boy, he didn’t know how to deal with his newfound feelings. How was he supposed to repress them in front of you? Act normal? He knew it would be more difficult than staying awake during divination.
But he had to try.
Before Felix could join his friends at the Hufflepuff table for dinner though, Seungmin stopped him in his tracks.
“You look constipated. Lost house points?” The joke brought the shadow of a smile on Felix’s face, and that was when his friend knew something was wrong. “Oh.”
“Oh?”
“Does Y/N know?” Know what? He was confusing the poor boy even more. “That you like them.”
Now, if Felix had a drink in his mouth at that moment, he would’ve spat it all. “How did you know?”
“Please, it’s obvious to everyone. So?”
“I don’t think so…”
“Okay. Don’t beat yourself up too much, alright? You can go for it,” he comforted him as he patted his shoulder.
He sat down next to Jisung before Felix could say anything. He finally joined his friends and sat across from you, his Ravenclaw friend’s words confusing him even more, if that was even possible at this point.
“I smell change,” Soobin raised an eyebrow, suspiciously looking around.
“What are you talking about now?” you giggled, nudging him.
“No, I smell it too,” Sanha added, eyes boring into the side of your best friend’s face.
Felix was concentrating on cutting his meat, trying his best not to spare you a glance.
“You okay, Lix?”
Your concerned voice was all it took for him to look at you. He was so weak for you, it scared him a little. “Sure,” he replied, giving you a small smile, holding so much adoration in his eyes as always. “Just tired.”
You nodded with an understanding smile, and dinner after that was rather silent. Unbeknownst to both of you, Sanha and Soobin shared a knowing look, shaking their heads in desperation.
The next day after class, the four of you were around a table in the common room. Two were working while the other two were bored, staring at the ceiling —guess who— until Soobin abruptly got up from his armchair. “I have an idea.”
“A good one?” Sanha enquired.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
Five minutes later, the two rowdies were building a house of cards with Soobin’s deck of exploding snap. Knowing the scaffolding could explode at any moment, Felix and you quickly put your school related stuff back in your bags in silence.
Deciding it wasn’t entertaining enough, Felix left the common room to do his assignments in the library. You wanted to see who would make the whole thing explode first, but spending time with your best friend you had a not-so-secret crush on was too tempting.
Too immersed into contemplating how or even if you were going to speak to him about your growing feelings, you missed the hole in the stairs. Felix, who climbed over it without thinking about it, flinched when the armor upstairs started creaking, bursting into a guttural laughter. Raising a brow in suspicion, he turned around. As he saw you knee deep in the stair’s hole, he hastily climbed down the stairs to help you up, putting his arms under yours.
Once you were out of ‘danger’, Felix dusted your robe and looked at you in concern. “Are you okay?”
Ashamed of your clumsiness —especially considering you knew exactly where the hole was—, you nodded, staring at the floor. “I’m sorry.”
You missed your best friend’s side smile and soft eyes. “There’s absolutely no reason for you to apologize. It happens. What’s important is that you’re okay.”
He took your hand in his and walked in the direction of the library, avoiding the hole and any other obstacle that may have come your way. His hand was warm against your colder one.
It felt nice.
You were in the library in no time, sitting at a table in the charms aisle. Concentration was difficult on both parts, the close proximity of a few minutes prior still vivid in your minds. Instead of diligently writing your essays, you glanced at each other from time to time, blushing like idiots.
If Seungmin or Jeongin were here, they would probably tell them to communicate. Like, it wasn’t that hard—
“Felix?” His face shot up from his rather blank parchment on vanishing spells, expectantly waiting for your next words. “Let’s go to the Astronomy tower tonight.”
He gulped. It was usually him that proposed the nightly dates. He felt so warm inside, he nodded and gave you his toothy smile you loved so much.
That night, when Felix came up to the tower a few minutes after you, his eyes widened at the sight. You had prepared a little picnic full of his favorite snacks and juice. The sky was clear so you could plainly see the stars and constellations.
“What’s the occasion?”
“We don’t need one, but if you insist,” you repeated his words from a few days ago with a grin, “I’m asking you out on a date.”
He blinked a few times at your bold words, processing the news. You suddenly felt shy, cheeks burning furiously when Felix got closer to you. He gently intertwined your fingers together, looking at you with such adoration, it was hard to hold his gaze.
“I’d love to go on a date with you,” he whispered, closing the gap between your foreheads. “Once more.”
Felix knew deep down that all of the dates you’ve both been on were not so friendly to him. It just took time to realize it.
You wanted to kiss him, but were too shy to initiate it. Thankfully he got the hint and, after asking for consent, gave you a peck, and another, and another. Each time longer than the one before, both smiling into the soft kisses. He then gave you the biggest loving hug.
Eventually you enjoyed the picnic, watching the stars like always. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, you turned to the human you loved most.
“The stars wish they were as bright as you.”
Felix blushed, burying his face in the crook of your neck to hide his reaction. You ran your fingers through his hair, kissing the top of his head tenderly. The night ended smoothly, both falling asleep in each other’s arms on the picnic sheet.
The next day, at breakfast, Soobin and Sanha spotted you coming from the stairs instead of the dungeons on their way to breakfast.
“Where were you? You never went to bed yesterday,” enquired Soobin, waiting at the end of the staircase in the Entrance Hall.
“Where did you sleep and what did you do?” asked Sanha, hands on his hips, looking at you both suspiciously.
“Went on a date, ate snacks, watched the sky, kissed and fell asleep there,” you recounted on your fingers.
“You WHAT?” Sanha choked on air while the black haired boy gasped dramatically.
“We kissed,” repeated Felix, beaming and showing your entwined fingers to your friends, which you know they had missed because their eyes widened.
“Oh, dear. It’s happening,” Sobbin said, clutching at Sanha’s arm. “The ship has sailed.”
Sanha laughed under your questioning gaze and Felix’s incredulous one.
“You knew, too?” he asked your tall friends.
“Please, the whole school knew at this point. You were probably the last two to realize.”
“Thanks for the precision, Sanha,” you sighed, “but at least we know now,” you added with a smile as you turned to Felix, kissing his cheek.
Soobin fake threw up while Sanha acted like he was framing the scene. “Cute.”

“Hufflepuff wins the House Cup this year!” the headmaster told the entirety of the students and professors. It was the last day of the year, you were excited for another summer with your best friend, except this time, you came home as lovers.
Felix hugged your side, happy your house won this Cup, if not the Quidditch Cup. He caught a glimpse of Seungmin shaking his head in disappointment and fatigue.
With reason, Ravenclaw was last with 380 points. Third was Slytherin with 395 points, Gryffindor second with 430 points and, finally, Hufflepuff had 495 points.

GOMBURZA (2023) - MMFF REVIEW
Tumblr media
“Vivan Los Filipinos. Mabuhay ang mga Filipino.”
This film is the story of the three martyr priests. Three Filipinos who were part of the native community who were once under Spanish colonial rule and oppression. If you have been updated, or have been listening in your elementary Philippine history classes, it’s GOMBURZA, not MAJOHA.
Despite it being produced by Jesuit Communications, the film was able to execute (No pun intended) a factual depiction on a turning point of Philippine history without overused emphasis of religion. It was able to capture how the Catholic faith was used as an instrument of oppression during the Spanish colonial period (This was especially ironic considering how return of the religious orders, including the Jesuits, were the reason for the silencing of the secularization movement). What also impressed me is that almost every single detail in the movie, even in the dialogue, came from actual events in history. It is evident that enough research was made to make this film as accurate as possible.
The film’s cinematography was able to capture life during the period whether it was amongst the Filipino liberals, the Spanish priests, the Governor-Generals, or even the three main characters in our story. With every other scenes of the film shifting from light to dark atmospheres, this symbolized the reality of Spanish colonization — warmth, acceptance, and friendship amongst fellow Filipinos; and ruthlessness, inhumanity, and oppression from the Spaniards (and even traitors). Adding emphasis to GomBurZa’s (2023) cinematography is its sound design. Just by feeling the cinema floor rumbling and the deeply-voiced voiceover in the film’s ending segment, this film can come to a point where it deserves its own IMAX screening.
Dante Rivero and Cedrick Juan showcase over-the-top stellar performances as Padre Mariano Gomez (played by Rivero) and Padre Jose Burgos (played by Juan). Both actors have embodied their roles, not only due to the fact that they, especially Juan, share a slight resemblance with the real life Mariano Gomez and Jose Burgos. It is also because that they were able to portray their emotions from having a friendly conversation, to later condemning their unfair arrest, trial, and death.
Pepe Diokno's time and effort in conducting research and including every important detail in the production is evident in the whole film itself, as it was not only ACTUALLY based on true events, but was able to evoke emotion and outrage, just like how the Filipinos of the 1870s did at the time.
With all of this said, GomBurZa (2023) is not only a history lesson, but also an immersion into the Spanish colonial rule and the lives of the three priests. Being a history nerd and a cinephile who has since learned the names of the three martyr priests as a little girl in elementary, I can definitely say that this was one of the only film experiences where I had witnessed the breaking of the fourth wall. The whole time I was in the cinema, it felt like I was part of their conversation, like I was a witness to their lives and execution.
What also added to this experience was that I watched the film on Rizal Day, and what better way to commemorate our national hero's contribution to Philippine independence than to learn about where it all started? Like what I always preached to my family:
Without GomBurZa, there will be no Jose Rizal. Without Jose Rizal, there would be no Andres Bonifacio. Without all of them, the Philippines and the Filipino would not exist.
GomBurZa (2023) is a cathartic experience that is definitely for the family. This film is a testament to the importance of appreciating and learning our history. Hopefully it serves as a reminder of our collective past, national identity, and the importance of our freedom.

So, I started writing a completely different post about the Heart confrontation scene and was gonna start it with "[Episode 5] was just so well done and they laid everything out on a platter for me to digest that I don't really feel the need to wax poetic about colors in this episode" but uhhhh, haha oops, I played myself. I was looking back through part 4/4 to talk about Heart's confrontation scene, and uh...
IT'S COLOR TIME.
Fuck you @respectthepetty! you created this monster.
So we already have Wen = Blue and Jim = Red but I've given the internet too many analyses about Wen and Jim and because once again the side couple strikes, all I care about is supporting this precious first love between Li Ming and Heart so that's what I'm gonna write.
Like father-figure uncle like nephew, Li Ming is red, and his love interest, Heart is blue. But because Wen and Jim are also red and blue I think there needs to be something else tying Li Ming and Heart together visually and that is stripes. (shhh, yes, I know Wen had a shirt with stripes on in it episode 4 but that served a very specific purpose of being red/blue color coded for the purposes of being caught between Alan and Jim) THIS however:
Tumblr media
stripes.
Tumblr media
stripes.
Tumblr media
stripes.
Tumblr media
stripes
Tumblr media
stripes
Tumblr media
stripes
Tumblr media
STRIPESSSSSSS
Is exclusively a dedicated HeartLiMing motif.
And stripes makes sense as the connecting factor between the two of them. The plot line for Heart and Li Ming centers so much around how trapped they both feel in their respective lives. Li Ming trapped by poverty, Heart trapped at home. Li Ming trapped on the cusp of adulthood and independence, having a difficult time being understood by his uncle (despite Jim's best efforts), Heart trapped in his own body and mind, because his parents refuse to learn how to understand him. Their plot is about being teenagers, teenagers testing boundaries, breaking boundaries, rebelling against the authority they have known their whole lives in order to better understand who they are as people. In order to be able to make their own mistakes and start learning how to navigate the world without a "true adult" there to make decisions for them. It's about breaking free of the barriers your family has always placed around you to keep you safe.
Horizontal stripes of course, also make me think a bit about paper, and writing is a crucial, vital, and important part of how Heart and Li Ming started getting to know each other. If you want to get even more abstract about it, lines in relation to Heart and Li Ming make me think of hands, of fingers (the vertical lines especially) in reference to sign language and its importance in allowing these two to communicate and understand one another.
Okay I said it was color time, I lied again, sorry, it actually was stripe time.
NOW IT'S COLOR TIME.
We've seen a lot in this show, in my opinion, with blue lighting around the Red Rascals, both Jim and Li Ming. Especially Li Ming because all of his interactions with Heart until the middle of Episode 4 have been immersed completely in Heart's home.
Tumblr media
and what I love about blue lighting is that it makes red pop so Li Ming is still the most central and eye catching presence on the screen, despite the fact that he is bathed in blue. Despite the fact that he is in Heart's room, in Heart's house, he is the center of attention for viewers in this moment, but also for Heart as a whole.
And even in Ep. 4 once they finally leave Heart's home, Li Ming is still constantly covered in blue because he is doing all of this for Heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when they go to the church where Heart is introduced to other Deaf people for the first time, Li Ming is still immersed in blue because, once again, he is in Hearts's world. The world that Heart should have always had access to from the minute that he became deaf. The world he's been deprived of by his parents for three years.
Also notice, by nature of Li Ming wearing a red shirt in these scenes that the white and amber lights that act as the secondary wash in these scenes casts far more red tinted light on to Li Ming than it does to Heart. For the majority of episode 4, Heart's lighting pallet is blue or white, blue or amber. Li Ming's has a bit more red to his. AND AND AND AND it speaks to the talent of the lighting designers and directors and just general film crew in this show that they are able to use so much blue in this show and have it signify so many different things. Alan's blue lighting is colder than Wen's, Heart's blue lighting is colder at home than it is when he is outside. It's more of a blue green outside because they are mixing it with more reds/oranges and less white, you can even see it in these screen caps how much bluer and colder the first picture in Heart's room (and even when they are in his driveway) looks compared to the pictures outside where they are also lit with warm tones.
We know already that Heart cares about Li Ming, because he is his friend, because he finally has a life line, because he finally has someone to talk to, who treats him like a normal fucking human being, and trusts him, and and and...and we know that Heart is attracted to Li Ming because we got that scene where Heart pretty obviously checks out and is flustered by Li Ming without his shirt on. But I don't know if Heart fully has a crush on Li Ming at either of those points. And my argument for that is the lighting, because until Heart is standing in front of the speaker at the church with Li Ming, we don't see Heart in any objectively warm light.
Tumblr media
I think this is the moment that is supposed to indicate that Heart is fully leaning in to having a crush on Li Ming, because this is finally the moment where his face is warm not blue, not bright, not cold, and not in white light. And I'm asking you to compare this image with the ones above it, at the street vendor, the secondary light wash on Heart is not amber, it's white. The back lighting on Heart's neck in the picture of him and Li Ming talking to the Father at church is definitely warmer, but it is not as warm as the light on Li Ming's face. But at the speaker scene, he is fully bathed in warm light. But the warm light isn't red light either, it's not objectively or definitively Li Ming's color, though it is his emotions.
You know what is objectively, definitively red light?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is.
And like yeah, we can talk about the red bag on Heart's side, or the fact that in this lighting the blue square of the American flag on Li Ming's sweater matches close enough to the blue in Heart's shirt. We could talk about getting on each other's level by swapping colors through their clothes or their accessories. But I don't want to do that this time, because I am a slut for lighting and this lighting this definitively red lighting on Heart's face is what this episode is about for me. I think this is the point Heart realizes that he is in love with Li Ming, and Heart is fully ready to accept Li Ming as part of his world. Probably the most important part of his world.
Anyway, off to go take a million more screen shots of the confrontation scene so I can shout expletives about Heart and Li Ming's reactions to everything going on in that scene. Talk about a side track of epic proportions.

Tumblr media
The hot days of June were never your thing. It always felt like your skin was melting and becoming juice for vampires. You did adore them though, the vampires. You watched a movie about them just last night.
The closest thing to a vampire was a bat hybrid. They were mostly stray and were not exactly friendly. You remembered that when you were a child, your neighbour had a bat hybrid. He once clawed the face of his owner and sat there in his bat form. It was so hard to get him off and when he did, the owner had deep wounds. Back then it was scary but now you kinda laugh. The bat hybrid was then left alone with his other bat hybrids in the dark jungle.
Hybrids.
You loved them a lot. They were so cute with their special features like tails, ears, and their ability to shift from human form to animal. They were smarter and had better hearing and vision abilities. They could climb and run fast. You always watched something about them on your phone.
But
You never owned one.
Since childhood, you always loved them so much that everyone would say that you would be the first one to adopt one or maybe more. You wanted that but life could be unfair in many ways.
You were just not ready to have one. You were still settling. Your job wasn't still giving you enough to afford a hybrid. And overall, it was a huge commitment. Having a hybrid means having a partner with you. It could turn into something more than an owner-and-hybrid relationship too. It was too much to ask for.
The loneliness, though, demanded that partner.
It was getting dark as you walked to your house. Trying to be health conscious, you didn't bring your car to work. The sky had pretty hues of orange and red. You worked overtime not because you had too much work but because you wanted the sun to hide away so that you could walk back in the breezy evening breeze. But to your bad luck, the environment was completely still. Not a single leaf was moving.
“Ah, I think the rain might come sooner this year,” you sighed as you looked up at the sky. “I should take a picture,” you took out your phone and clicked a picture of the beautiful sky.
Finally, you reached back and opened the door. You had already turned on the AC in your living through your phone while you were walking back. You were, for once, thankful for the electricity bill raiser machine.
You sighed happily when the chilled air kissed your face. Removing your shoes, you quickly waddled towards your bathroom to take a cold shower to cool down your nerves.
Knowing that nobody was gonna come here, you wore a cami top and your underwear. Who, in good mind, would wear proper clothes especially when they live alone or with their lovers anyway?
Wanting to eat something refreshing for dinner, you ordered Naengmyeon, the Korean cold noodles. In the meantime, you took out the bottle of soju and brought your laptop and started finding some nice shows. In the end, you settled with Spy x Family anime.
“Ah, I should turn off this AC. I hope they finalize me sooner so that I can get my whole salary and then be able to use this AC however I want,” you said to yourself.
It was a weird habit of yours that sometimes irritated your mother. But you did it without knowing. Anyway, your job would pay you highly if they decided to keep you. You were just a trainee for now. You still lived in an expensive neighbourhood. That's where your salary would go most of the time. But it was only you so there were no worries. As long as you turn off your AC for a long time, it is all set.
The bell rang after twenty minutes. You squealed excitedly and grabbed the cash. Not forgetting to wear shorts. The delivery man handed you the food and started finding the change.
Looking around while he was finding money, you saw a car that just stopped at the house on the left. That house has been empty since the day you moved in. Nobody ever visited that place. Your friends, Hongjoong and Namjoon, who live on the same street, told you about the owners living somewhere else.
The delivery guy handed you the change and left. The moment you turned around, you caught sight of a guy who walked straight into the house. And then three more people followed behind. Two of them were holding some heavy-looking stuff in their hands.
You shrugged and closed your door and went straight to your living room. You enjoyed your noodles and the anime and spent the rest of the evening watching anime and scrolling through the phone until bedtime.
The next morning was chaotic— as if that was a new thing to mention.
You totally forgot to prepare your outfit and then you burnt your breakfast. While trying to manage the little fire in the pan that was cooking the eggs, you knocked off some fragile glasses that broke. Your neighbours could hear it all, for sure.
On your right side, Hongjoong lived. He always complained about you being so loud without using a single word. It was embarrassing. You were totally dependent on your mother. So managing so many things at once, nah, it wasn't your thing.
“Mama,” you whined, missing your mother, “how in the world did you raise three of us at the same time?!”
“Well, I always told you that a mother can do anything. It doesn’t matter if there are three or three hundred,” your mother’s voice came out of the speaker of your phone. “And how many times did I tell you to do some work and that you will suffer later?”
“It’s not the time for scolding, mother. I’m late, I’ll call you when I am free, oky?” You said with a pout, cleaning the shards of glass from the floor.
“Oky, do your best!” said your mother.
“Thank you, Mama!” You quickly threw away the glass and grabbed your bag along with an apple as your breakfast and left your house.
Luckily, it was Friday, meaning the weekend. You couldn’t wait to sleep away the whole week.
“Hello!” You stopped in your driveway as a voice called you. You turned to the left and saw a lady who was speed-walking towards you. “Hello, I’m Kim Bina. We came back yesterday.”
The image of four people flashed in front of your eyes, “ah, hello. Welcome back!” You awkwardly said.
“Thank you! I’m not gonna waste your time. I just wanted some milk and sugar. My husband likes his morning tea too much but there is nothing at home except the raw tea,” she giggled nervously.
“Oh, yeah, hold on a second,” you quickly unlocked the door and collected the whole bottle of milk and poured some sugar into a tiny bowl.
Locking everything back, you handed the lady what she needed, “thank you so much! I hope you have a good day!”
You smiled and quickly got into your car and drove away. “Aish, lady, you made me even more late. And here I am trying to secure my job.”
“Joongie, Joonie, I swear to god I am gonna lose my job if I keep on getting late like this,” you stuffed your mouth with some expensive macarons that Namjoon served.
The three of you were at Namjoon’s. He invited you both for a movie evening. It was a regular thing that happened at three of your houses, turn by turn. It was great to find such dorky friends right away when you moved in here a year ago.
Back then you had just joined the company you work for. And now you were close to either losing it or securing it.
“I think you will get the job permanently, or well, as long as you don’t resign,” Namjoon said.
“Mhm, I think so too!,” Hongjoong said.
“Why?” You asked.
“You see, getting late to work is one thing and it can be changed. But quality work is what gets you a job fixed. So, I think you will get the job. Your work is neat and I have seen you working before and the fact that you complete your work before the deadline is far more important,” Namjoon said. He was an owner and CEO of a well known trading company. He knew how everything worked. Every time you had any problem in your work, you always knocked on his door with a huge sugar coated smile and puppy eyes.
Hongjoong, on the other hand, was a CEO of a music company. He was enthusiastic about music. He spent endless nights and days in his chair to get the thing done. Namjoon recorded some of his songs with him. They both shared this passion.
“Yeah, I would be so happy to have an employee like you,” Hongjoong said while sipping on his coffee. “Just do your thing properly and try not be late.”
You hummed and slumped on the couch. The movie wasn’t that interesting to watch. “Oh! The neighbors came back!”
“What neighbors?” They both looked at you.
“The one on my left side! Or right, when you face the houses,” you said.
“Ah, them! They came back? I have never seen them, to be honest. I have only heard about them from the lady who lives next to me,” Hongjoong said.
“I heard it from Mrs. Song who lives across from your house,” Namjoon said, pointing towards you.
“I saw four people yesterday. And in the morning, when I was running late, the lady stopped me and asked for milk and sugar. He said her name was- uh,” you tried to remember, “uh… oh! Kim Bina!” You hummed.
“Oh, the typical neighbor bullshit,” Hongjoong said. “Get ready for neighbors not buying their own stuff but using other people’s stuff.”
“Aw, Joongie, did your neighbor on the other side eat all of your pantry?” You mocked a pout.
“Pantry?! She inhaled my laundry detergent and groceries too!” He exclaimed, and Namjoon and you laughed at his misery, if you could call it that.
The rest of the evening went by. You all ended up watching some episode of random series. The time flew by fast and it was getting late. Hongjoong and you helped Namjoon clean up and then bid farewell for the night.
“I am going away for a while, by the way,” Hongjoong said.
“Where are you going?” You asked.
“America. I might be gone for months. If I get some time, I’ll visit back. Hopefully the work ends sooner because there is no place like home,” he sighed.
You nodded, “I’ll miss you then. Don’t forget to call often,” you smiled at him and stood outside his house.
“Of course I will,” he smiled and hugged you before letting you go.
You walked to your house and stood outside and took a deep breath. You looked towards the new neighbors, well, technically old but whatever. You smiled to yourself.
“It’s nice that you have some people living in you now, huh, house. I can’t imagine being alone like this for decades,” you talked to the house as if it had ears. But you never know. “Anyway, y/n… it’s finally the weekend. I’m gonna sleep the best.”
You nodded and went inside your house. While preparing for bed, the thought of your new neighbors came in. When you moved in here, your neighbors greeted you well and brought you meals and other useful stuff to make you comfortable. That’s how you met Hongjoong and Namjoon. They brought you dinner and spent the whole evening getting to know you. Since then, you became a part of their tiny group.
Thinking about all this, you thought of taking something for them and a welcome treat or something. That way, you could get to know them too.
So with that grand thought, you went to bed.
Your house was filled with the aroma of freshly baked cookies and pastries. It was only eleven in the morning. You woke up early, not because you had prepared a gift for the neighbours but out of the habit of waking up early for work.
It sucked. You only had weekends and they were destroyed by the habits.
You liked baking and cooking. It wasn't something you had time for but whenever you had some time on your hand, you always made something. And of course, shared it with good neighbours and friends.
Everything was done so you packed the cookies and the pastries separately in two containers. You were wearing your denim shorts along with a graphic tank top and your all-time favourite sneakers.
Making sure you had everything, you marched next door.
You rang the bell and stood a bit behind, waiting for someone to open. A minute later, a guy opened the door and looked at you with a question mark face.
He was beautiful, to say the least. He had a beauty mark below his left eye. His black hair brushed his slightly red eyes. He must have woken up late. But what caught your eye the most was the grey fading to white at base rabbit ears on his head. They were laying flat and twitching slightly.
“Hello, I am the neighbour next door!”

-☺︎
Avatar reader x Ghost cod
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Angst, ghost and reader used to be together, reader is now with Jake and Neytiri (poly), male reader, I made this really sad sorry 😞, hints of suicidal Ghost, I had to actually go and pamper Ghosts character AI after this I felt so bad
15 years ago you had been set out on a mission with Jake
Before that mission you and Ghost had an argument over the fact that you felt he didn’t love you enough
You knew he had been through a lot and had a hard time expressing his emotions but you just weren’t fulfilled
You stormed off and went on the mission with Jake
Also before that mission you had been struggling with work, Price told you if you didn’t complete this newest mission you’d be kicked off
Both you and Jake ended up getting lost together
You fought in the battle against the sky people together with Neytiri and won
But Ghost and the 141 had been told you died in the battle against them
For the next 5 years Ghost was miserable
He barley ate and barley slept, especially without you there to hold him and comfort him after his night terrors
He missed your warmth and love so much
And the last thing he said to you was “if I don’t love you enough then go find someone else!”
He didn’t mean it
He ended up in hospital multiple times after you died
He just couldn’t take it
But with the support of the 141 he slowly recovered
15 years later they had been set out on a mission on Pandora
Ghost felt ok enough to do a mission there again
The 141 ventured out into the forest
That’s when they came across Jake, Neytiri, and You…
You had faked your death
The rest of your family was all doing their own stuff it was just you and your mates
You had mated with Jake and Neytiri after you faked your own death
Ghost felt like he was dreaming
He wanted to scream he wanted to cry he wanted to embrace you but his whole world shattered when he saw you put an arm around your mates
“Why… why did you do it? Why did you take your own death?” He asked desperately, on his knees at this point. All he wanted was you back in his arms, even if you where a giant blue alien
You sighed and crouched down to his level
“Simon… I’m so sorry my love, but they ordered me to kill you. I couldn’t do it. I don’t know why they wanted me to but I knew I couldn’t go through with it”
He barley registered your words, all he saw was you again, even if you where big and blue
“So… does that mean we can make up and get back together?” He asked sheepishly, hoping that when you hugged Jake and Neytiri it was just an act of friendship
You paused
“Simon, my love I’m sorry but I can’t. I’m with Jake and Neytiri now. They are my mates, we have four beautiful children together and I just can’t leave them” you softly explained to him
He didn’t even notice the tears running down his face until his mask started to fog up slightly before it was cleaned by the mechanisms
God he felt his heart break all over again
He felt jealousy, hurt, betrayal
He felt like he was in that coffin all over again clawing to get out, to get back to what he wanted- no what he needed. But this time he wouldn’t be able to get out

Febuwhump Day 4: Obedience
CW: Implied abuse of power
AO3
---
"And stop following me!"
Zelda's indignant scream made Link take a step back, but when she turned on her heel and marched away again between the leaning ancient columns he hurried after her, falling into his usual place a couple of steps behind. She knew he was there; she sped up a little, but he kept up easily.
He couldn't just stop following her. He knew that and so did she, though he couldn't explain to her and he knew she wasn't interested in his explanations anyway. He was her guard, her appointed knight. Not something either of them had asked for, but that didn't make any difference. He'd been ordered to stay with her; what could he do?
He kept walking, running through the words he wanted to say. He understood what it was to live under an unbearable pressure, with everyone staring at him every moment, expecting great things that he didn't think he'd ever be able to do. He had drawn the sword on his back from its pedestal as soon as he laid his hand to it, but he hadn't known what it would mean; how it would change his life. He'd been a child - gifted, to his father's delight, but a child - but the sword had torn him from his family and brought him here, following Zelda, expected to fight a monster that not even the whole army of Hyrule could hope to overcome, with the eyes and hopes of the kingdom on him.
He didn't entirely understand what Zelda was going through as she tried again and again to unlock her power when he had had his forced on him, but he wanted to help. He wanted to talk with her. He wanted to listen and comfort and reassure her that there was someone who didn't think she was just a failure. Someone who saw that she was trying her hardest. Someone who at least knew how it felt to see disappointment in the eyes of the people who looked at him. In her case because she couldn't unlock a power that should have come easy as breathing, in his because he was small and thin and in no way what anyone expected of a hero.
But he couldn't talk to her. His life was ruled by the king's orders, even more than hers was. He didn't think the king would do any harm to the chosen wielder of the Sword the Seals the Darkness; he needed Link able to raise that sword against Ganon. But his family didn't have that protection and while nobody had ever threatened them he didn't want to find out what his disobedience might cost those he loved. Even if there was nothing else to fear, he didn't want to make his father embarrassed or his mother upset or get his little sister teased.
So he obeyed and hoped that one day this would be over. Zelda would unlock her power and be happy. Together, they would defeat Calamity Ganon. Then it would be over and he could lay down this sword and go home and tell Mipha that he returned her feelings and… and live.
But for now, he had orders to obey. Stay with the princess. Protect her. Remain silent and respectful at all times. Especially, if you can't talk without stuttering and tangling up your words, don't talk at all.
No matter how much she took her frustration out on him, he was obedient. Close, attentive, silent.
He didn't mind staying with her and protecting her - she deserved that much - and he could keep silent as his father and the king had told him. He was already too small, too thin, not the hero the kingdom expected. He didn't need to prove anyone right by opening his mouth. He couldn't be tall and charismatic and articulate, but he could be loyal. He could be obedient.
And after all, what choice did he have?

thinking about. When Hamato Yoshi becomes Master Splinter
Especially 1987 but I think this applies to 2012 as well. maybe not so much Rise, but idk it could in some ways
Extremely traumatic to have your humanity taken from you in that way.
But let's also talk about the fact that this was done to him... by humans. His experience with humanity has been that they are violent, greedy, corrupt. Okay so that was mostly Shredder, but he also spent some time just out in the streets. I mean the story is different and focuses on different things with each Splinter but, rat or human, the base of the story is usually that he fled Japan (where he experiened extreme violence) and landed in New York City where he had nothing. The Splinters who were rats, canon deals more explicitly with their view of humans as.. not evil exactly (except mutant mayhem), but not good. In need of protection and guidance, at best.
But what about Hamato Yoshi rejecting his humanity? It was taken from him unwillingly, and for someone who likes to be in control it would make sense for his coping mechanism to be reinterpreting his situation as an ascent to something purer. And this could explain in a way how he trains the turtles to be heroes. Their family is above humanity, almost like instead of beasts he thinks of them as spirits. There has to be a word, right, for that literary device where the nonhumans are less corruptible? like Smurfs. does what I'm saying make sense
Basically his mutation made him a rat, and in order to avoid the trauma of his body being involuntarily changed I think he chooses to see this as a sacred experience. Rat > Human. He will be more sly, more disconnected from earthly vice, more resourceful, less wasteful.
Now contrast this with the turtles mutation experience.
Generally we don't see them wanting to go back to being regular turtles; they want to become more human. The mutagen didn't even 'mix' them with a human, it enhanced their strength and intelligence and a lot of other random wonky things that made them seem humanoid. For them becoming human-adjacent was the same thing as becoming aware. Without the mutagen, they wouldn't know each other's names, wouldn't be able to enjoy pizza or video games, certainly couldn't learn martial arts. From their pov, humans are above them on the scale. Humanity is something they chase, try to understand and immerse themselves in, and rejection from that world hurts.
Master Splinter, then, to them, took a big fall for them. I could almost compare it to a parent giving up a career in order to be a parent. The older they get the more they realize, first that it happened, and then that it had to happen because of them. They have to give him another chance at that other life, because it's their fault he lost it (from the pov, at least).
And I just. Think about when he scolds them for those human vices he's made himself believe his more animal state will help him overcome. Laziness, gluttony, envy (hoo boy envy. whole other post), selfishness. He pushes them to train, and keep the lair clean, to protect them from becoming what he once was.
And it's really sad because what he once was. Was human. Just human.
And it's the wrong word for the turtles, but it's the same concept. Just let your kids be human. Let them be teenagers. And to his credit, he does try. He allows them their pizza and video games and human friends. But he also seems constantly on guard for their sakes. Not only will the human world reject them, something he experienced himself and doesn't want to face, but it also has the power to ruin them. Like where they are is the ideal and becoming more human-like could make them.. more inherently bad. He wants to keep them in his own little world because he's crafted one where being what they are is an honor, not a shame. But he can't comprehend how, living under his roof, the turtles are still experiencing an entirely different world.
They don't ever truly get it, either, that he doesn't see his mutation the ay they do. And it's not that I don't think he ever sees becoming a rat as a fall from grace. I'm sure those feelings also exist. But he cultivates and acts on this other idea because it's simply more useful to him than self-pity. And that's really cool of him on some level! Empowering to reject humans just as thoroughly as they rejected him; he deserves a story where what happened to him all worked out for the best and was his destiny all along. It's just... he also didn't take the time to heal (how could he, given circumstances?), and that does affect how he treats his children.
Does any of this make sense? It's just a very interesting dynamic

Hey, where do you think Ryder's parents are? It's been confirmed (though I can't remember where, it was on some kind of social media) that Ryder's parents are around somewhere, but where??? Do you think they approved of him leading a team of rescue pups? I wonder how they react when they hear news about rescues, especially the really dangerous ones. I mean, he's been inside an active volcano (Ultimate Rescue: Pups Save the Tigers) trapped in the Lookout as it was rocketed towards outer space (Mighty Pups tv movie) inside a poorly built and unstable skyscraper during a crazy storm that ultimately collapsed with him still inside (PAW Patrol: The Movie) nearly crushed by a meteor AND a firetruck in the same week (PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie) dealt with multiple super powered evil doers that threatened the well being of the whole town on SEVERAL occasions (every Mighty Pups episode) and faced off against a fellow kid genius that wanted to and was capable of leveling the whole town and teleporting everyone to the moon in order to turn it into her own city (All Paws On Deck) just to name a few, imagine hearing on the news that your kid went on a life-threatening rescue mission and it's not even the first time and you know it won't be the last, that must be terrifying. You know, Adventure Bay's local news must be crazy. Hold on, in those rescues where all of Adventure Bay was in danger that means Ryder's parents were also at risk, unless they don't live in Adventure Bay which is VERY unlikely, I wonder how Ryder felt about that, must've been scary for him.
Look, ONE THING I CAN SAY FOR SURE. Wherever Ryder's parents are, they SURE AS HELL ARE NOT IN ADVENTURE BAY.
They very probably approved of him becoming a Rescue Team leader, which makes me believe they might be rescuers themselves! This boy couldn't have learned all his rescue knowledge AND everything else he knows on his own without having firsthand experience with at least one thing while studying the others. His parents must be either into vehicle engineering, building engineering or rescues, he's learned one thing by osmosis and the other he had as a hobby until he decided to put the two together and get to work.
But as much as they might have approved of that, I really doubt they live in Adventure Bay or even in Adventure City for that matter.
Guess who wrote a long post again LMAO but you did give me PLENTY fuel for that, SOOOOOO XDDD
First of all, there's exactly this problem of being worried about someone when they put themselves in dangerous situations and it's increased tenfold if it's someone who's closely related to you. For Ryder to be able to work the way he does, he literally can NOT do it anywhere close to his family - he would get worried about them and it would make him possibly lose focus. He already has to worry and care for all his pups, which is a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. If ANYTHING happens to any of the pups, it'll be ON HIS ACCOUNT: He's the one directing them, instructing them on what to do, training them, sending them out in missions and dangerous rescues. He's already responsible for their safety and lives as it is, he can't afford worrying about his family too.
And then there's the other side of it: His family would ALSO worry about him, just like you said! He's literally ten years old in the show. He's not even a teenager yet! If his family would be anywhere nearby, be it his parents or any other relatives, they would be worried ALL THE TIME. Ryder has gone into extremely dangerous situations several times, he has risked his own life for his pups and/or for people he's been rescuing a few times as well, both movies being EXCELLENT examples for this. You cannot look me in the eye and say his parents or relatives wouldn't worry WORSE than Chase did in the first movie when he saw Humdinger's tower collapsing, knowing Ryder was in there. Now imagine watching the news and finding out last night's meteor shower freaking blew up the very headquarters tower your son was using AT THAT EXACT MOMENT to watch said meteor shower.
Now add the fact that, knowing he works with rescues, if something dangerous IS happening, they CANNOT try to contact him just to know if he's okay or not- because if he's okay, he can't afford stopping to answer them as he WILL BE WORKING. They can't reach for him to not make his line busy in case someone needs to call him for help, and to not distract him from his job. Any distractions could cost them Ryder's life, or maybe one of the pup's lives. Ryder has his pups as part of his family, so to lose one of them would be just as devastating for him and for nearly every resident in Adventure Bay.
My best guess, it's just that. Wherever they are, Ryder's parents are NOT in Adventure Bay, NOT in Adventure City and NOT in Foggy Bottom. They're probably States away, or whatever to name a longer distance. Maybe they're somewhere from USA East Coast even, who knows.
Ryder probably chose Adventure Bay to live and start the Paw Patrol exactly for these reasons: Very far away place, small town where he could start easy. Slowly and steadily, he's been expanding the Patrol over to other locations and becoming famous enough to be called for action in other countries/kingdoms too.
Back home he's learned firsthand a lot of several different specialties for rescue jobs so he could teach his future team, or at least give them a start, so they could study further on their own afterwards. And living far, they can keep in touch occasionally whenever they're not at work, and they can't interfere with his job.
If I lived close to my 10 years old son who works rescuing people with the help of a bunch of dogs and I would hear he's going off into extremely dangerous situations, no matter how much I say I'd trust those dogs with my life (because I am nearly 30 and not ashamed to say I really would), my mother instinct would scream louder than reason and I'd physically hold him back and yell at him to think about his own safety for fucking once in his life too.
It's better they're VERY FAR. For their own sake, for Ryder's sake and for the pups' sake too.
Now with that being said, someone please write a fanfic where Ryder and the Paw Patrol get called for a big search & rescue work in the very city where Ryder's parents are living, after some kind of disaster hit it. Yes, I'm throwing gasoline on the wildfire here, go wild. That would be an interesting topic to explore and write about.

I want to ask you something because I really enjoy having you on my dash, but I can't comprehend how can you support Hamas in this war.
I'm Israeli. I didn't choose to be born where I did. I'm so lucky I didn't live in the near border villages because if I had I would be dead today. 900 people murdered, beheaded, full families including their children shot on sight. I'm sorry if I'm being insensitive with my descriptions but I just have to make you understand, you know?
How can you still support them?
ok so. this is pretty old. over a month old now. i haven't checked my inbox in a hot second. so im gonna hope that you don't exactly hold this same position now. but i wanna make a few things crystal clear right now.
if i can accept that my country (the us) is a colonial, genocidal state that should not exist and that the land should be returned to the native peoples. if i can accept that my DIRECT ancestors displaced people from their land, killed them for their ethnicity and to make room for themselves, and condemn those actions without hesitation. even though they were facing religious persecution. even with pressure from the society around me and family members to either ignore these facts or to be proud of that ancestry. if i can do that, and i did it EASILY, then so can you. easily.
so lets start there, with that. if you can't accept even that, then i doubt you will be able to reach the level of humility you need in order to accept that you've fallen for some pretty damn intense propaganda surrounding the nature of hamas and the nature of this genocide and your place in it.
and i understand that youre very afraid, your government isn't exactly looking out for your safety very well either, colonial states are inherently unstable and their whole population suffers for its existence. because there is absolutely no way that israel will meaningfully gain from what theyre doing right now. especially not in the long run. but you gotta understand by now that the people in gaza are a hell of a lot more likely to die, be injured, or lose a family member than you are right now. perspective is sorely needed here.
now let me clear this up really quickly. i dont "support hamas". and i have never said i did. it concerns me very very deeply that you make this claim so matter of factly when all ive ever said is that i support palestine. hamas members are in microscopic numbers out of the whole of palestine and those that voted for them number to around 12% of the gaza population (if we're being very generous) due to the amount of children and young people in the gaza strip who either straight up weren't born yet or were below the age of majority during the election. thousands of these young people have been massacred. THOUSANDS who did absolutely nothing wrong besides being born. and it is this exact mindset, the one you showed here, the instinct to equate the entire ethnic group of palestinians with hamas, that has caused each and every one of those deaths. i do not say that lightly.
and i an going to be frank with you. we cannot pretend that this wasn't a last ditch effort. the people of palestine have been occupied by israel; oppressed, displaced, murdered, imprisoned, etc for 75 fucking years. thats a long ass time. you would be angry. you would be furious. and they fuckin tried too. they tried to peacefully march and were murderd, they tried to live their lives as best they could and got their houses were invaded, they were imprisoned without proper trial or reason. they tried existing as a multicultural, multi religious group of people and the israeli instigated extremism in muslim groups to make an easier target (yes they admitted to this).
i can tell you with 100% confidence that if something similar broke out in the us with indigenous people, i wouldn't hesitate for even a second in saying that its the fault of the us and that these people need freedom and their land back. that is the only route to a solution, period. fuck, im already saying it now. so im asking you and others who have similar thoughts, to consider for a moment, the people that you idly stomp on. and im asking you to consider untying your boots.

Azazel looked to Clauneck for a moment before turning their eyes back to the spread before them.
Tumblr media
"Yes?" Clauneck prodded, though their tone betrayed no emotion.
"The cards say... We will separate. But the event that will cause this separation is... A betrayal." Azazel finally managed, lowering their head.
They couldn't believe it. Why would the cards suggest that? The pair of them were siblings, twins--friends! They were family, they were all each other had! Azazel couldn't imagine either of them doing anything to harm the other.
"Hm," Clauneck sighed, looking over the cards, before taking up Soul Snatcher--the one in the 'outcome' position--and staring at it.
"It does seem as if there is little room for interpretation. Especially with such a spread and question asked." They hummed.
"But... I'd never go against Star. And she--"
"'One's loss is the gain of another.'" Clauneck interrupted, though talking to themself, almost as if they weren't listening to Azazel. "Star has always been the more independent of you two, I must say. You can never know what she is up to, the times she goes off into the Cradle on her own."
Azazel opened their mouth to protest, but... No sound came out. Why didn't anything come out? They wanted to defend Star, to insist Clauneck was just speculating, but... Clauneck had a point.
Star had been leaving to explore the Silk Cradle on her own more and more, even when Azazel warned her of the danger. So all Azazel had been able to do was do spread after spread of cards, begging them to show that she would be safe, praying that no harm would befall her.
And every time they had said so.
And every time she had come back perfectly fine.
They were already adults, after all. Was it selfish of Azazel to think they would have stayed here their whole lives?
But why did Star have to be the one to leave? Azazel didn't want that. It was too painful. They weren't brave or confident or even very sociable like Star was... It was safe near Clauneck, so there they had stayed, day in and day out.
Clauneck wasn't really great company, being noncommittal in just about everything, and Azazel didn't think they could stand being alone with them for very long.
Would they be there for the end of their days, all to stay safe? Would Star gladly turn her back and leave them behind for her own freedom?
Perhaps, instead of being betrayed, they would...
Tumblr media
Azazel snapped to attention, not noticing Star's arrival. They hurriedly grabbed at the cards still on the ground, shuffling them before handing them back to Clauneck, who took them without even blinking.
"Just. Doing some readings. That's all." They managed.
"Hah, see, that's why you're so much better at that kind of stuff than I am." Star laughed, moving to sit down next to her sibling. "You spend all your free time practicing--I still haven't gotten five-card spreads down very well, I always forget the order!"
Azazel managed a weak laugh, but their thoughts were still swirling, so it died rather quickly.
"So, where'd you go this time?" They asked.
"Oh, well I went to visit that cute girl I told you about a few days ago," Star began, donning a mischievous smile. "And turns out she's free tomorrow night! So one thing led to another, and I've got a date!"
"Ah, that's... That's nice." Azazel sighed. Star hooked up with people often, so they admittedly didn't actually know the specific girl she was referring to, but that wasn't really what bothered them.
"You think you'll ever find somebody to settle down with?" They asked after an awkward pause.
"Probably." Star said with a shrug. "But that'll likely be after I find some place to live."
"Oh... You're... Thinking of living somewhere else?"
"Ah, c'mon, Azazel, we gotta sometime. Clauneck's not exactly a typical parent, but I think almost 25 years of freeloading's gotta get to almost anyone."
Clauneck, smartly, made no comment. They merely let the sheep talk between themselves.
"And it'll just be you, then?"
"What, you playing the dependency card now?" She scoffed, raising an eyebrow. "Azazel, I love you, but... Even twins gotta split up and live their own lives, you know. I'd be lying if I said I never thought we'd always be near each other, but... It's just not realistic. Not in this world."
Ah...
Azazel stared at the ground, fists clenching. So the cards were right, then.
"But hey, that won't be for a while, so--"
"But it'll still happen." Azazel cut in.
Star turned to look at her sibling, confused.
Azazel stood up, and looked down at Star, brow furrowing.
"Then... Rather than let it happen, rather than depending on the cards for assurance, I'll... I'll forge my own path!"
Star now stood up, cautiously raising a hand to reach for her sibling, but they stepped away, eyes narrowing.
"I'll walk my own steps, I'll build my own life... And I'll do it without you!" Azazel snapped.
"What are you--Azazel!" Star cried, but their sibling was already running. Before Star could go after them, they had vanished into the shadows of the night.
Star stared in silence, unsure what to do, before slowly turning her gaze to Clauneck for some sort of answer.
"Skilled as they may be with reading the cards," Clauneck began, without looking to Star. "They fall victim to the same reliance on them many do.
"And little do they realize, by attempting to challenge them, they end up obeying them all the same. The cards only spoke of one betraying the other. It never said which one."
Clauneck was still staring at the card they had picked up initially--Soul Snatcher.
"But did they ever realize the nature of the betrayal... ?"
Star knew it was pointless to probe Clauneck for any meaning to their ramblings. They would often talk in circles, and one would only end up more confused than before.
"My, it seems I chose a rather inappropriate time to pay a visit." Came a new voice from the shadows.
Star and Clauneck lifted their heads, and from the darkness appeared a looming figure, one the pair recognized instantly.
It was Shamura.
Tumblr media
"There is no need for you to apologize on their behalf, lamb." Shamura said simply. "It is of no insult or concern to me, who is in the middle of a breakdown."
"Of course, thank you..." Star managed, but frowned.
"Is something the matter?" Shamura asked, tilting their head.
"It's just... I shouldn't have said anything to them about what I was planning. But now they've run off. They don't do well alone in the slightest, and it's dangerous at night, so if they get hurt, it's my fault, and--"
"Swallow that worry, lamb." Shamura interrupted, tone level, but still commanding. "You are not suited for it."
Star nodded slowly, looking to the ground with her head still bowed.
"What brings you here on this evening, bishop?" Clauneck took the opportunity to ask, despite knowing the answer already.
"A private matter." Shamura said, glancing at Star.
Star, who had glanced up, didn't need to be told twice.
"In that case, um, please excuse me Bishop Shamura. Clauneck. I think I will go look for Azazel. Perhaps I can calm them down..."
"It is dangerous, as you said." Shamura noted, raising a claw to make Star pause. "A few of my attendants wait just past the perimeter. Take one as a guide."
Star paused, staring at the bishop incredulously. Shamura was actually offering her a means of protection?
"Th-Thank you Bishop Shamura!" She then stammered, bowing once more. "Your mercy is boundless."
And with that, she left, vanishing just as quickly as her sibling had into the darkness.
Shamura stared after her for a moment, before their eyes turned back to Clauneck. For them, it was business as usual. This hadn't been the first time they had arrived while one or both of the sheep had been around, but it was easy enough to give them reasons to vacate so they could speak to Clauneck in private.
"You'll need to make your decision soon, it seems." Clauneck said with the faintest chuckle. "Lest you risk losing the benefit of choice."
"This turn of events has certainly made me take pause." Shamura murmured. "Both of them are quite dependent, thanks to your rearing. They long for safety and attention. But Azazel had the weaker will, up until now, and would have been the prime candidate."
"And now?"
"I am unsure. I was hoping that Azazel's fear would make them an easy vessel to deal with, should Narinder have no choice but to use them. But they've revealed their true colors, their true potential for initiative. Starwatcher, on the other hand..."
"What about her?" Clauneck asked idly.
"Desperate for outside approval, making her easy to string along. But it would work both ways. Narinder knows how to target desires. However, she's also more selfish, thinking of herself above all else."
"Quite the conundrum, indeed."
"Mmm. If I'm to set up the lamb of prophecy properly, I will need more time. Azazel must be found."
"You still haven't told your fellow bishops of the prophecy?" Clauneck asked, tilting their head.
"I want all the pieces in place." Shamura scoffed.
"A fitting stance for the wearer of the Purple Crown."
Shamura let out another sharp exhale, but then turned away.
"You'll receive your payment for the past year's work shortly. That was what I had originally come to report. Along with seeing how the lambs were."
"Very well. Thank you for the notice, Shamura."
