When you text him that you're sick, he's sad but he won't say that

"Finally a day away from you" but then he'll instantly text you that he misses you

Sends you soup and any snack that you're hungry for

But he won't go near you

He'll enter your room but he won't get super close to you

He's scared to get sick since he literally despises it

Last time he was sick, he stayed sick for almost 2 weeks straight

His immune system is weak asf and can't handle germs that much

He loves you, but he's gonna send you kisses from 6 feet away

But when you get super sick, to the point where you can't eat or even breathe properly, he gets worried

He does his best to be there for you for everything

When you vomit, he's mortified but he holds back your hair and looks the other way

He'll help feed you, but he'll definitely be wearing protection of some kind

Like a mask, gloves, goggles, and more

It's a bit dramatic (Very fucking dramatic) but you don't mind

I think that he has a strong immune system so he doesn't understand how being sick can affect you so much

But he comforts you in his own ways

Such as, being in the same room as you, making sure all of his devices are muted, sneaking in headache pills in your food, etc

Brings you food from the banquet and feeds it to you spoon by spoon

But sometimes, he pretends he's going to feed you but then feeds himself

You tell him to not do that since you're sick and ate off the same spoon

But he doesn't care and kisses your cheek as extra evidence

When you refuse to eat, he doesn't care and continues to spoon feed you

Even if you deny it, he just rams the spoon on your face, making the soup fall on your clothes

So either you eat the soup or you get covered in it

When you say you're scared to vomit, he groans

He thinks you're being a big baby LMAO since he thinks puking is completely normal

But when you get really upset and start to tear up due to your fear of puking, he panics and sees you're being fr

He goes to the school medics and ask them how to help you

They give him a special vial that allows you to eat and not vomit, which is super perfect for you

Despite smoking a shit ton and drinking a lot, his immune system is actually pretty good

He’ll give you small pecks and cuddle but he won’t kiss your lips directly

Gives you a ton of tissues and hugs you all the time

He skips class to spend time with you and make sure you're okay

Doesn't care that he's missing an assignment or two because he's smart enough to just learn the material on his own

My headcanon for him is that he's secretly kinda nerdy and has the best grades out of the Slytherin boys

So when you're napping, he does all of your missing assignments for the day

He's such a good caretake it's crazy

Fluffs your pillows, tucks you in, plays your favorite movies, makes sure you always have water and that the temperature of the room is perfect for you

Goes to the dining hall to get you some food and soup

And if they're not serving soup for the night, then he'll buy some himself

I also headcanon that he's pretty good at cooking :) So he might just make you some

But if you deny the food, he'll reassure you and comfort you that you won't throw up

He spoon feeds you and talks about his day

He makes sure you're not eating too fast or too big of bites to make sure you can avoid puking as much as possible

Has an okay immune system but it's pretty weak at times, always has allergies

But even though he knows he's gonna get sick from you, he's still gonna skip all his classes to be with you

Loves this because he has an excuse to skip and spend all day with you!!!

Definitely cuddles with you all day and doesn't care

Takes naps with you and rests besides you

If you struggle to take your liquid medicine, then he'll pour himself a little spoon of it as well

Even though he's perfectly healthy, he'll take it just to make you feel better :)

Brings you food from stores instead of the school's banquet

Buys you fancy and nice dishes that are hot so you can get the best quality possible

NIGHTMARE:

Nightmare finds your wings annoying, or fascinating. (Depending on what your wings look like)

If your wings are big, then they probably often get in the way of things, and Nightmare more than likely gets accidentally smacked with them...

But if your wings are small, Nightmare won't mind them at all. They're just...there. No complaints here.

Your wings sometimes have to stretch... Because they get too stiff if you won't move them much. Don't expect much help from Nightmare though. He has "other business to attend to" and he's "busy".

Though there are times where he'll give in to your pleads, And just- wrap your wings in his tentacles. It's actually kinda comfortable, since it feels like you don't have any weight on you.

He'd sometimes gaze at your wings, with no thoughts whatsoever. He's just observing them, in complete calmness...

If you show him some new tricks you learned, all happy and everything, Nightmare would listen to you. (Shockingly) but he'd act like he doesn't want to hear about your accomplishments.

KILLER:

Killer would gasp when he sees your wings. He immediately touches them (with your consent of course. Consent is hot)

Horror will gawk at your wings with sparkles in his eye. He's mesmerized, and thinks they're pretty..

He gives you a smile when you stretch your wings, or cover your wings around him.

He likes how fluffy they are.

He'll want to touch them, but won't do it, because he's afraid of accidentally hurting you. :(

He thinks they're probably fragile, and he won't want to be the reason you'd be wingless.

Will need a lot of reassurance that it really is ok to touch your wings. And that they're not really fragile at all.

Overall a total sweetheart, he will be really gentle when it comes to touching your wings. He doesn't want to accidentally yoink them.

The others would probably tease him a little that he's much more gentle than he normally is.

Only you get this special treatment from him by the way ^^

Do you have any advice on doing a character study for a character before writing them? Stuff like how they’d act/respond 👁👄👁

haha it's quite tricky, I won't lie! it's definitely one of the things I struggle with the most (writing really well-rounded and defined characters). Here are a couple things that I do, but keep in mind that I'm reeaaalllyyyy not an expert on this. I'm still learning so much about characterization every day.

If you're writing fanfiction, watch or read the source material as much as possible, until you can almost hear the way the character sounds in your head. Take time to understand things like their accent and how they speak (do they talk a lot or very little? do they use slang or enunciate everything? do they speak quickly or slowly?). Here, you just want to concentrate on the cadence of their speech / their speech patterns. If they speak plainly or use lots of proverbs or turns of phrases, that sort of thing. If you have that down, you've honestly done half the work. Even I often reread my work and go "fuck, all of these people SOUND the same even though they're saying different things".

This is harder if you're not writing fanfiction and have to create your own universe, but regardless of whether you're writing for an existing IP or your own 'verse, I think understanding your character's cultural and religious background is so crucial to developing them. It's a big part of the lens through which they see the world, whether consciously (if they're a very religious character for example, or raised in a specific country) or subconsciously (for example, I grew up catholic so I relate to the world through that lens, even though I'm not a religious person - it just heavily informed me in my childhood years). For this Bear story, I had to do a bit of research around Baptist theology because I knew Bear would be a religious character (whether or not he's struggling with that religion) and it would heavily inform how he sees the world around him. I listened to some sermons, talked to someone with a Baptist background, and also thought about how that background with tie into his desire to have a family).

Pick like 3-5 words that you think best describe your character and just write them down somewhere. I've never been very successful when I make huge character sheets for my characters or try to write a super detailed background for them, so I try to give myself a bit of grace and be brief about it. You can always expand on it going forward. Like for someone like Bear, I might pick: family-oriented, religious (Christian), gruff, and scrupulous. You can also do this in the reverse way and try to think of what they're not (same example with Bear, I might go: conniving, hedonistic, flighty, and optimistic LMAO). This is a nice way to put like, boundaries around your character.

In the framework of your story, try to pick a trajectory for your character, or a goal. At least have one, but you could have a couple. If they're directionless, that works too! But they should want something or aspire to be something. This counts even if they think that thing they want is beyond them or unattainable - it's still a want/goal pushing them forward. This can also be an unconscious goal by the way -> like a very hedonistic character that likes to party who's slowly getting worn down from that life and doesn't even realize they want to settle down, or vice versa! Someone who feels trapped in their mundane life but thinks that's what's expected of them. The character doesn't have to know they want this goal.

Fatal flaws. This is a big one. What is something that might get in the way of them achieving their goal or might influence how they get it? Easiest way to think of this is just looking at the 7 deadly sins (soooo corny, but it's a good place to start). Characters are never perfect, so give them a reason to struggle.

And honestly lastly? Trial and error, baby. Take your vaguely defined character and figure out what you want them to achieve (whether or not they get it is beside the point), and then work out how they might go about achieving that. If they'd run full throttle towards it because they think they deserve it or whether they'd fight it every step of the way because they either don't think they want it or don't think they deserve it.

I'm sorry if this is very messy!! It also totally depends on you as a writer. When I try to make "character background sheets", it gives me anxiety and I end up not following through with my writing versus when I try to keep it brief and just dive into the writing and slowly change things and edit as I write. But maybe a sheet works best for you!

No Way Out

“You can do better than that.” His voice taunts you as you attempt to knock him over with your punches. A smug smirk forms on Soap’s face as he keeps dodging your best attempts to one-up him.

Sweat poured down your face. This back-and-forth tussle had gone on for over ten minutes, and Soap wasn’t going to let you off easily. Over your first few weeks, you could tell he was beginning to enjoy you being there, and it felt as if you were finally fitting in with them. At least most of them.

You kept swinging, only managing to get a few solid hits on the gloves he was holding up.

“Time out,” you say breathlessly, holding onto your thighs as you try to get your bearings.

“Giving up already?” Soap taunted sarcastically, taking the boxing gloves off and going off to the side to take a drink. You simply shake your head, giving him an eye roll as your reply. He could bounce off the walls for days and still not be tired.

Just as you began to calm your breathing, the sound of a throat clearing made you whip your head around.

It’s exactly who you thought it was. The man who has uttered about fifty words to you over the course of two weeks.

“You’re blocking the weights.” Ghost states in his typical dry inflection. You swiftly step off to the side, moving out of his way.

He grabs a few weights and moves to his own section, acting as if he’s not still watching you, but he hasn’t stopped since the day you got there.

You were about to exit the gym when, to your surprise, he spoke again. “Those were some pathetic punches earlier. Not going to knock anyone out with those,” somehow he managed to sound even more judgemental than he usually did.

You let out a scoff and turned around to face him, watching as he lifted the weights in his hands effortlessly. “Isn’t that the point of training? To… train?” It comes out more quick-tempered than you wanted, but if he can get away with it so can you.

He rolls his eyes without even rolling them. “Not if you don’t improve your form.”

“Alright,” you place a hand on your hip, letting him get whatever amusement out of this conversation he thought he was. “Are you offering a training session?”

“Only if you listen to what I say.” He finishes his rep and sets the weight down, standing square in front of you, raising his palms. Unlike Soap, he didn’t even bother with the boxing gloves.

“Now raise your fists. When you punch, twist your body with the momentum.” He says, waiting patiently for your first jab.

You wind yourself up with a deep breath and slug his palms. He has little to no reaction, and he looks disappointed. “Use your weight, otherwise you’re just slapping the enemy.” His tone has a hint of impatience now.

You give one more, this time using his advice. Of course, he isn’t phased by them yet. “Better...”

That’s all you needed to hear. That’s the closest to praise you’re going to get from someone like him. “I passed the test?” You tilt your head, letting a grin spread across your face.

Ghost furrows his brows, distorting the balaclava fabric above his eyes. “Alright, keep your knickers on.” He says in annoyance, before returning to his weight-lifting.

Everyone is deep into reading the work material in front of them, when the door slams open, and Price steps in front of everyone. It was the first time you’d seen such a stern expression on his face.

“I want everyone to be focused. This might be one of the most dangerous missions we’ve attempted yet.” You felt like your stomach dropped to your feet at his words, matching the look on everyone else’s faces as their attention snapped to Price.

“We’ve received word from one of our sources. The reason we aren’t picking up anything useful with the bugs is because we’ve been looking above ground.” He begins passing out intel folders, one for everyone.

You peel the cover back, seeing a map of some sort of maze. Confusion reads on your face and the others around you.

Then it occurs to you why this was so dangerous. It wasn’t a maze. It was a tunnel system. Gallons and gallons of unpredictable water, rushing down tunnels that may have no exit for miles. How were you supposed to find anything useful in a place like that?

“I want you all to study this layout as best as you can. It is to be believed, they’re using the water tunnels to keep off our radar.”

The wetsuit wasn’t very comfortable. But the awful part was that your comfort was the least of your concerns right now.

“Follow your instincts. Look for anything suspicious. There’s no guarantee this will lead to anything.” You hear Price’s voice in your ear as he prepares the team. 

“If you hear the water coming, hold onto something. If you can’t do that… Hold your breath.”

Price’s words chill you to your core. Every bone in your body was screaming for you to turn around and run back home, but that wasn’t the job. You had no choice.

Complete the mission, or die trying. No take-backs. No running away.

The 141 stood outside the tunnel. Even the moonlight couldn’t illuminate the inside of it. With hesitation, you followed behind them in formation, rifles drawn and ready. You turned around and took one more good look at the glimmer before each advancement further consumed the light more and more.

After a few feet, everyone flipped their night-vision headset down, switching it on. It took a few seconds for your eyes to adjust to the saturation of the green as you stumbled a bit, relying only on the sounds of their feet to guide you.

Water trickled down the walls. The smell of rust and mildew made your nose crinkle in disgust. The tunnel seemed to be endless. How could this tunnel system be connected to El Sin Nombre?

“Anything up ahead?” You asked Ghost, who was leading the formation. He answers with a soft negative. As you proceed further down the tunnels, they widened and had more disorienting turns. This was the part on paper that looked like a maze.

It was obvious there wasn’t a living soul down there aside from you and your squadmates. You examine the patterns of the turns around you, or lack thereof. You noticed the turns that had vents instead of dead-end walls, others looked like crawl spaces that led somewhere. 

You spoke up, “It’s like a puzzle. The grates open, water floods here, stopping it from flowing somewhere else. What does that have to do with a cartel?”

Some of them mutter in agreement, and the others just keep following. Even if your theory was correct, everyone here was out of their depth, and there was nothing out of the ordinary. 

“The walls are getting taller.” Soap comments, and you noticed it too.

You reach a bigger space, which is like an intersection the tunnels all connect to. A meeting point in the middle. The walls had to be at least ten feet tall by now. Deep down you wondered if this was just a piece of intel that leads nowhere.

“There’s nothing here, Cap,” Soap says into his earpiece, his voice echoing along the tunnels as he speaks.

“Make sure of it.” Price’s voice chirps back through the static. “Then, get the hell out of there.”

All of you turned to retrace your steps, finding this underground exploration completely useless.

The sound of the tunnels groaning halted any movements. All eyes darted around, but you could hear a needle drop. It got more ferocious, and within seconds, you were scrambling to get out of there.

“Everyone out now!” Ghost’s voice boomed, reverberating even harsher after.

Burning. That’s the sensation you remember in your lungs as the water went over your head. Thrashing around, smacking into one another as the gallons of it rushed through the tunnels, forcing you to follow the way of them.

You felt the arms of one of your teammates, but couldn’t remember who. You must’ve grabbed them out of instinct before you had time to process it.

Each time your head poked above the water, you choked on it more and more. The woosh of the rushing water drowned out any sounds around you. It was mere seconds before the pressure of the water drove you underneath repeatedly, each time you lost a little more stamina to resist it.

The speed of the water smacked you into someone's gear, knocking you out cold.

A deep wheeze let out of you when you opened your eyes. Looking around you, you were separated from your team. If there was a team left. You were on the bank of a small river, gripping onto the ground below you. You must’ve washed up where one of the tunnels runs off to. 

As you continued to gasp for air, you coughed a few times, spilling out some of the water that was trapped in your lungs.

With a grunt, you forced yourself to your feet. Every muscle in your body was exhausted from fighting against the currents. As you wiped the mud from your hands onto your suit, you scanned the area around you. No sign of your squadmates anywhere, dead silence.

You pressed the button on your mic, but none of your words were making it through. Shit, no signal.

You groaned in frustration and began schlepping downstream, hoping you would see a helicopter or military vehicle you could use to contact Price. So far, you were out of luck.

You continued walking along the water, keeping your eyes peeled for any sign of life around you.

It felt like an endless walk, your wetsuit squishing the mud with each step. Every sound of the surrounding wilderness was muffled by the water still trapped in your ears, making it even more difficult to get your bearings.

Suddenly, you feel a set of hands grabbing your shoulders. The muffled voice is finally audible when the person is close enough to you. “Did you find the others?” You jerked around, seeing Gaz’s wide eyes meet yours. He looks about as beat up as you did.

It took you a few seconds but you eventually shook your head at his question. You rattle your head in an attempt to unclog your ears, which gives a bit of relief.

“I washed up by that river. Haven’t seen anyone else since.”

“Let’s keep walking,” Gaz responds, keeping his head as you both continue to comb the area.

Gaz hands you the binoculars he had around his neck, one of the only pieces of equipment he still had. 

“I think I see something.” You say, seeing some movement in the distance.

Gaz almost leaves you in his dust as he eagerly runs towards the movement.

“God Damn thing!” It was a voice you recognized. It was Soap. He throws the walkie-talkie he had in his hands with all his force. The thing practically shatters when it hits the ground. You’re just glad that you managed to find another person. But deep down, you had a sick feeling about where Ghost could be. What if he drowned? Or he’s stuck in the tunnels somewhere?

“We lost everything in there too, Soap,” Gaz says, attempting to calm the other man. “We’ll find something. There’s gotta be a radio around here somewhere, or a vehicle… We need to contact Price.”

The three of you began to find your way back to the tunnels. There was no way any of you were leaving Ghost behind. If he had gotten out of them unscathed, he would’ve followed the water and regrouped by now. You had a sick feeling in your stomach about this. He could already be a goner, and you all would be too late.

You approached an entrance into the tunnels, a different one than where you entered them before. It was a shot in the dark searching them, but Ghost would do the same for any one of his colleagues.

You silently patrolled the tunnels, keeping a tight formation, listening for any signs of life.

“Hold on,” you held up your hand, leaning your head in the direction of the sound you heard. “There’s something…” You didn’t bother to wait for the two behind you as you sprinted around corners, shouting out Ghost’s name - hoping that it really was him.

The groans grew louder as your footsteps slowed so you could listen better. When you peered around a corner, you saw him. Your heart skipped a beat, and you got this feeling of accomplishment. Like if you hadn’t found him, you’d be failing someone who wouldn’t hesitate to search the ends of the Earth for you.

“Ghost…” You muttered, rushing over to him. “I need help over here!” You exclaimed, calling the other two to your location. The two of them rush over in an instant, examining him before they hoisted him up, supporting his weight between the two of them.

You took their gear so they could focus on Ghost and get him outside. They set him down in the grass. He was worse off than all of you combined. His arm was busted up, though he was attempting to brush off the attention.

“I’m alright.” His cold tone is back, even after a near-death experience.

Soap gives him a glare and finds some bandage in the backpack, using it as a makeshift sling for Ghost’s arm.

“Price will have helicopters sweeping this area soon, I know he will. We won’t be out here long,” Soap speaks into the humid air, attempting to calm everyone’s shot nerves.

You kneel next to one another in the damp grass, looking around and listening for any signs of the helicopters. You glanced over at Ghost, who you could tell was struggling to keep himself upright. You noticed a slice by his rib, which cut through the fabric of his wetsuit.

“You’re bleeding.” You say quietly, motioning at the blood coming from his abdomen. He merely murmurs inaudible disapproval, managing to brush off the attention even in his most vulnerable moments.

You ignored his stubbornness and peeled back the torn fabric of his suit, seeing a large slice along his upper stomach. You rifled through the small first aid kit and poured some disinfectant on the gash. He stifled a moan, but you could tell this wasn’t his first time with an injury like this - and probably won’t be the last. With the remaining bandage, you wrapped it around his tender abdomen, hoping that would keep the area clean until the helicopters arrived.

Several minutes of waiting passed. The chopper blades woke you all out of your positions in the grass. Soap and Gaz rose to their feet immediately, waving down the chopper. Ghost stood up on his own, using his remaining strength to get up with one arm.

You felt a relief like you never have. Waiting for the chopper began to feel like an eternity, and you were just glad to get out of this hellhole.

“I’m glad you’re all standing.” Price greeted the group when they arrived back, giving each of them a scan as they walked past him. “Go get checked out in medical and get some rest.” He followed each of your movements with his eyes. You could tell he was concerned, wondering what happened back there. He must’ve lost contact with all of you pretty quickly.

Aside from a mild concussion and some scrapes and bruises, you felt lucky to still be standing on your own two feet. The other two had similar injuries from the mission, and they were resting away in their own quarters, probably savoring the few hours of relaxation they would get out of this cooldown.

It was the middle of the night. You strolled into the kitchenette, not expecting anyone to be awake after such a hellacious day it was. The figure sitting at the table made you jump slightly, though he didn’t look phased. He’s sitting there, no lights on in the kitchen. A bottle of Scotch is sitting on the table in front of him, and by the looks of it, he’s made quite a dent.

“You’re not supposed to drink when you’re on those painkillers.” Your tone wasn’t even judgmental. It was more of an acceptance that he was going to do these things regardless. He didn’t care about himself. That’s just the way he was.

He scoffed and took another sip, looking straight ahead of him.

“How’s the arm?” You question as you stand next to the table, looking into his eyes for a few seconds, before you both break away from the stare, almost in unison.

He nods, “It’s alright. Nothing I can’t handle.” His tone is almost cocky for a second. You wonder if he does that on purpose. But why?

You give a soft chuckle, knowing he’s probably been through worse. You grab a glass from the cabinet and pour yourself some of the whiskey as well, eating your words. You both sit in silence for a while, sipping on your drinks, but obviously, he’s ahead of you by a few. The burn in your stomach soothes the aches your body was still experiencing.

After a bit of sitting there, he slides the bottle your way and leans back in his chair, stretching his back. 

You would be lying if you said you weren’t ogling him. The skin peaked through when his shirt rode up. The way you could see his toned core and the waistband of his sweatpants showed off his v-line. Hopefully, he was too drunk to notice. That was your only crutch to lean on if you were caught.

Without a word, he went to bed, leaving you to feel prudish all by yourself.

After a few minutes of sitting alone in the kitchen you stumble to bed. Memories of the distressing mission flooded your head. You remember the feeling of your hands gripping onto someone, and then blackness. Something about it felt like you already knew the answers, your brain just didn’t put all the pieces together yet.

“I got you.” The tender phrase echoed through your ears over and over, making you sit up in your bed.

It was his voice. Ghost. It had to be Ghost. 

He’s typically a great swimmer, one of the best trained on the team. He would’ve had time to move to cover, but he didn’t.

You didn’t grab him as you fought the waves, he grabbed you. You thought maybe you were thinking about it all too deeply. 

It was a bold theory, but you began to wonder if that’s how he hurt his arm - blocking your body from the violent water.

Hello! I hope you’re doing well! I was wondering if you could give me some advice when it comes to furthering my language learning. I’ve been learning Norwegian on Duolingo for almost 5 years now but I feel like I’ve barely made any progress into actually learning the language. I’ve seen you mention that Duolingo isn’t the best way to learn a language, just on its own. What more can I be doing to actually learn Norwegian? I appreciate any insight you might be able to give. Thank you!

Hi there!

I actually think Norwegian Duo's not that bad, especially compared to other courses. It got me to A2 level without my really using any other resources! But of course, A2 is still only the top of beginner level, and from thereon out it's pretty ineffective on its own (although I still used it even at B2 level as a way to refresh vocab I'd forgotten or just do a little practice every day when I didn't have the time or energy to do anything else).

There are a lot of different ways you can study Norwegian. Here are some things I did (it's an essay lmao I'm so sorry):

1) Listen to Norwegian radio. You'll probably think I'm mad when you first try it because you'll probably understand very little other than the odd word here and there, but I promise it gets easier and you'll get used to the rhythm of the language in a way Duolingo doesn't prepare you for. Try to shadow the speakers (repeat what they say just after they say it. You don't have to know the words they're actually saying; just approximate the phonemes and the melody and the stress patterns. I promise you your pronunciation is gonna get SO good)

2) Take to Youtube. Check my resources list here for some links to channels that teach Norwegian.

3) Norwegian podcasts! I made a list of some beginner/intermediate-friendly ones (check the link in point 2). The plus with podcasts is you can slow the speed down to half-speed too. Again, don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first; just focus on the rhythm and stress of the language

4) Norwegian TV. You're gonna struggle at first but you need to struggle to improve, so don't be discouraged even if several months pass without you feeling like there's any improvement. Intermediate level sucks I'm afraid. Some shows I like that don't require a VPN (as of the time I'm posting this) are Fra bølle til bestevenn (it's got dogs in it), Hva feiler det deg (game show where normal people with internet compete against doctors to guess a patient's diagnosis), 113 (documentary following paramedics in Trondheim - try not to cry at the dialects), Klassequizen (quiz show with 10th graders, pretty A2/B1-friendly), Side Om Side (popular sitcom, sometimes the second-hand embarrassment kills me but mostly it's pretty funny) and Superkrim (did you know that crime stories around Easter time are a Thing in Norway? They make a new season of this one every year but it's accessible year-round, and the language is a lot simpler than a lot of shows, and it's pretty fun and a bit silly)

Note: subtitles are in Norwegian only, and half the time they match the nuance but not the actual words being said. I recommend trying to listen without them first, then listen with them, then listen without them again and see if you can catch a few more words.

5) Textbooks, if that's your jam. I recommend The Mystery Of Nils (you can jump straight to book 2: Mysteriet om Nils if you think you're ready. It's a bit of a jump but no point wasting money/time on something that you won't enjoy) and Norwegian Tutor (from the Teach Yourself series. The first few chapters will seem pretty basic but it's great at explaining nuances and prepositions in later chapters).

6) Read things in Norwegian. You can get short stories for beginner/intermediate level online, as well as read news articles (even if you can't read the whole article, just try the first paragraph). When I was about A2 level I would print things out and go through them just translating them, highlighting new words, words I'd encountered before but couldn't remember, words I could work out from context, particular grammar patterns and words I couldn't figure out and needed the help of a native speaker to work out.

7) Follow Norwegian accounts on social media. Here's a list I made earlier.

8) If you have some extra cash, investing in an italki tutor can be helpful. I've had lessons with a number of tutors so feel free to send me a message if you want help deciding which one to go with.

9) Keep a journal in Norwegian. Look up words you don't know and write them in a different colour. Maybe try to use words you learned that day and write them in a different colour too (even if by using them you're literally just writing "jeg lærte ordet «______» i dag. Det betyr ______")

10) You can also try creative writing. I started out by writing fiction largely in English but with Norwegian dialogue. I then moved on to writing short articles and then essays, then short stories and fan fiction.

11) You can try apps like HiNative and HelloTalk to find native speakers for language exchange. If you only know English though it might be difficult to find people because Norwegians typically speak really good English and aren't looking to learn/practice.

12) Listen to Norwegian music. Get on spotify and search "norsk (music genre of your choice)" and find some songs you like. Listen to them and pay attention to the lyrics. Then find the lyrics online and listen with the lyrics. Then try to translate the lyrics on your own. Finally, look up someone else's translation and see how close they are. Then try to learn the song and visualise meaning it with your whole heart as you sing along.

13) Practise speaking to yourself. It feels super awkward when you first start, but I always manage to get into the flow pretty quickly. You can have GT in front of you so you can look up things if you need to, or you can just write down words you don't know/couldn't think of as you go along, then look them up once you're done (I prefer this method; having GT in front of you encourages your brain to be lazy and not try to actively recall the information you need). 14) Flashcards. I put this one last because really flashcards are only useful as a supplement to learning through other methods. They help to keep vocab fresh in your mind until you see it in context again (and it's the seeing words in context that's gonna cement the meaning in your brain. I've never heard anyone say "oh, I know that word because it was in my flashcard deck that I reviewed every night before bed", but I hear people say things like "oh, I know that obscure word because I watched cooking shows in my TL and the host said it aaaall the time" or "it's in a line from one of my favourite songs" a LOT).

Just had the chance to read Lights of Avalon while writing my own HiJack fic, and its so apparent how much you GET Jack as a character. It's amazing to see the life you breathe not only into this different incarnation of Jack, but the Guardians and side characters like Jack's family. As someone who is more new to the HiJack fandom (Only been writing it for a year now) how do you get the characters this fleshed out and believable? I always struggle trying to balance out elements like that without it dragging to much. What is your technique for this writing wise?

Well, technically I've only been here for a year too--I think we're coming up on the anniversary of when I read OTNWAS and got trapped here, wow, time sure flies LMAO

This is my first ever ask for writing advice, dude I'm so stoked! I'll do my best to give you a clear answer, but sorry in advance if it's a little jumbled, I'm still fairly new to fic writing and this is only my second one asldfjlasdjf

For Jack specifically, I owe a large part of my understanding of him to talking about him with @jjackfrost! I feel like I had a good grasp on his general vibes from rotg, but talking with Robin and how he approached writing Jack in OTNWAS really helped flesh him out in my mind!

EDIT: I finished typing everything out and this answer is long af, I'm so sorry LMAO. TL;DR:

Focus on who Jack is as a person, and demonstrate who other people are through how exactly they interact--and more importantly, react--to him in his POV

9 times out of 10 people won't info dump their tragic backstories to each other, so give info about them in their actions as you move the plot forward. Come up with situations that can best showcase who they are as people. Show don't tell!

How much you learn about each character will all depend on who your POV character is (Jack) and what his relationship to them is like (the closer they are, the more heart to hearts he'll be inclined to share)

EDIT 2: ALSO THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'm so glad you like my characterization of everyone!! That's super high praise!!

Things are a bit different because this version of him never lost his memories and stayed human after falling through the ice, so I focused on who he is at his core--his centre, if you will hehehe--and what kind of person he was to begin with that would make the moon choose him. He's a really specific balance of mischievous but never malicious, immature but still responsible, and very very brave and compassionate and protective and HUHHHHHH my son 😭😭😭 His strength is in how he focuses on finding joy even in the darkest times, you know? And he's very self-sacrificing in order to bring that same joy for others.

When fleshing out the other characters in the story, for me it was important to remember that Jack is the POV character, so any info we learn about others has to come from their relationship with him and what he observes in them.

For example, his heart to heart with Bunny is way more guarded than the ones he has with his mother and Emily since they're still strangers to each other at that point. Neither of them are going to info dump about their tragic backstories to the other LMAO, especially since Bunny's not a wears-their-heart-on-their-sleeve character, but that's exactly why I thought that he'd be the best choice out of the three to have the initial real talk with Jack. He'd be the least likely to pry, which would let Jack relax a bit about dropping his guard.

In their conversation, I needed to give enough info to 1) get to understand Bunny's motivations a bit more, since he definitely sticks out next to Tooth and Sandy as a bard, 2) establish trust between him and Jack that can develop into a believable friendship later, and 3) give Jack more of a reason to think that joining the Guardians is actually an emotionally healthy idea too.

So then I thought about what exactly they'd share with each other, since conversations are always about listening instead of talking. Bunny doesn't divulge into the details of his past, but you get a sense that he's been through a lot given what he does share, and that he's already had his own character arc. Jack learns that Bunny is also deeply protective of his family, and that's something he can relate to. Jack's questions in turn show how lost he is, and that prompts Bunny to give only the relevant info that he thinks would help Jack.

But then for all that to happen, they needed to have another moment of bonding before it felt believable that they'd open this conversation in the first place, hence them being forced to team up in the snowball fight lol. Plus it wouldn't be a RotG fic without one good snowball fight LMAO. Pacing-wise, it also just so happened that I needed another more light-hearted scene to brighten the mood before things went to shit again since chapter 2 was so angst-heavy, and I needed to bring the Guardians back in to give Jack the option to leave, and you see how things are falling into place now lol

Writing the Guardians is suuuuuuper fun because they all have such fun and distinct personalities from each other! I get to be a bit less grounded when it comes to them too, since they bring a lot of comedic relief and are more whimsical in nature from the movie.

For Jack's family, it was easier to flesh them out through how much Jack cares about them, and how much he pays attention to what qualities in Emily and his mother that he loves most. In turn, you get to see how much they love him too.

Obviously you spend the most time with him and Emily, so I wanted to make their dynamic as siblings really cute (I drew a lot of inspo from my own relationship with my younger brother, which helped me relate to Jack more too). You see how much she takes after him with the tree climbing and how she follows his lead in all the mischief he pulls. She's self-sacrificing in her own way, with the scene where she pretends not to be interested in the pink dress when Jack catches her looking at it, and more importantly later when she tries to stop him from leaving and finally shows how much the accident and the guilt from it has been affecting her too.

Pacing-wise, they needed to spend the most time together in order to make Jack's sacrifice for her more impactful, and how much it hurts him to leave her, so I came up with a bunch of ideas for things to best showcase the different layers of their relationship--1) clowning the bards and each other for the humour, 2) stargazing for the intimacy, 3) snowball fight for the mischief, 4) their goodbye for the FEELS, plus that whole montage about winter before Jack saves her.

You only get one real scene with his mother, and I wanted to give her more character than just "mom," so I gave her an injured little boy to help take care of so you can see how warm she is as a person when she calms him down, in contrast to how Jack can reassure the kid in his own way by entertaining him and making him laugh. Then she gets some banter with Jack so you see her sense of humour. You get a hint of where Jack and Emily get their playfulness when she mentions that she's better at climbing trees to tease him lol.

Exposition-wise, Jack already knows that she's the town doctor, so instead of having him like, turn to the camera to say it lol, the scene with her stitching up the boy's cut demonstrates that. I gave Jack and Emily tasks that showed other aspects of her role without having to explain it, ie: shopping for supplies at the apothecary for her, and delivering medication orders she made for people in town. Idk if it was too subtle, but another reason I had Jack mention that they're short on cash was meant to show that she's not in the medical field for profit (SIDE-EYES AMERICA), so she's very selfless as well.

Aaaaaaaand that's about it so far without talking about what's going to happen next in the story. I hope that was helpful!

I used to go to therapy actually when i was like 16/17 somewhere around the age and the therapy itself was kind of dogshit wich I didn't notice becuase how tf am I supposed to know if i have had no prior experiences and like

Some other advice I remember was that I should never fidget with stuff atleast not out in public or when interacting with people because it will make me look like a fucking wierdo [I used to fidget a ton with my housekeys at the time and I also used to wear it around my neck wich I lost the habit off because my therapist insisted on me having it in my backpack until I actually needed to use it]

I was also never allowed to describe any of my problems/symptoms with medical terms because blablabla self diagnosis but like- how tf am I supposed to describe that I am paranoid wihout using the word paranoid? anxious or AfRaId is not the right word for what I am experiancing so what the fuck am I supposed to use? I get that "oh hey dont actually self diagnose" but like- How the fuck am I supposed to describe shit at all? [I already have a very bad time actually wording myself properly to get my stuff across, especially when new stuff is happening and at the time I was actually starting to have my first few times dissociating [probably] and while describing my experience to my thera she just didn't get it and just said lmao sleep more + eat healthy and while that can be helpful I KIIIIIND OF doubt that does a huge impact]

HELL I could probably give a list of what I think I possibly have and my thera could just correct me with "oh you actually have this and that and that is the more appropriate terms for that" instead of just having me water my own problems down for the sake of not self diagnosing

All of my internet friends are also not real people, oh and if your partner in another country is struggling Just ditch them and choose a "real" person to be with! and you must have "real" friends or you will stay depressed forever and always! [I have a partner who I meet up with on a more regular basis + some irl friends yet I may be clinically depressed so where tf is that logic I-]

I literally had no idea what I was doing, I love reading fics tho so I at least knew *what* I wanted to put out. when I was posting on here at first no one was writing omegaverse or hybrids or stepcest or darker fics for nct really, and that’s what *I* wanted to read. I thought it was weird at first how everyone acted like I was doing something terrible and wrong and writing ‘really filthy smut’ but then I started reading some fics on here and I was like lmao. wtf. my advice would be to read on ao3 if you enjoy darker genres too, READ A LOT, don’t read on here, and don’t only read my dark stuff bc I’m actually very mediocre lol. read all the dead dove stuff on ao3……even if you’re not a part of the fandom, if it has a high number of kudos theres likely chance u will enjoy the fic regardless. BTW ITS FINE TO READ ON HERE AND WATTPADD(?) IF UR LOOKING FOR ANYTHING NOT DEEMED ‘dark’. as for what I’ve found on here mostly anime fandoms write the decent darker genres. kpop mehhhh.

I get ideas from reading, consistently reading, and music, and content I absorb. like if I’m listening to a song, 9 times out of 10 an idea for a fic will come to mind. I am definitely more the type that thinks with my creative brain than anything though. its a curse bc I end up writing whatever my heads stuck on instead of touching my rotting wips lol.

as for running a fanfic blog- don’t take it serious. people don’t pay us for this shit, this is NOT a job- do not treat it like one. don’t let anyone give you shit either, BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK!!!! I think it’s better to not get close to other writers in your fandom either…..they’re almost always going to be hateful and weird. if people enjoy your writing, your community of readers will be all that matters. don’t worry about the social aspect as much or engagement… it will come as long as you’re consistent and have fun with what you’re writing. so basically- don’t get caught up in drama. its hard believe me, I’ve tried not to but 🤷🏻‍♀️ just do your thing, block weird loser anons, block anyone who comments your shit being unnecessarily rude, etc. your blog is YOUR safe space first and foremost!!!!!

I made a long list of how similar IDW and NFCV are for me, and in general, I'd say NFCV is IDW but ten times worse - it's just that IDW offends me more personally because Sonic is my franchise.

There are however some things I consider IDW worse for. NFCV has some pretty great fights, for example, the best ones being Trevor vs. Alucard, the gang vs. Dracula, and Trevor vs. Death; I can't think of one fight in IDW that made me go "yoooooooo this is sick <3". But one can say, well it's a different medium, IDW doesn't have animation, it's not fair. True.

I noticed that there is very little discourse on how OOC characters in NFCV are. Mostly it's because NFCV fans rarely are game fans as well lmao, but game fans seem to accept that the characters don't quite have the same personality. It seems to go like this:

yes, this character isn't the same, but it's because the original didn't have much personality in the first place (Trevor: fans really think the dude has zero personality so it doesn't matter if he was written as a stereotypical snarky edgy drunkard. Other examples would be Sypha and Carmilla)

yes, this character isn't the same, and it's a shame because they were cooler in the games (Hector. Yeah, just him. Ironically, as much of a Hector stan I am, I'm also willing to defend his potential in S2 lmao)

yes, this character isn't the same, but good thing because the original sucked (Isaac, which drives me mad because the two Isaacs have nothing in common so why are you even comparing them)

Alucard isn't usually involved in this conversation even though I consider him extremely OOC, but on the other hand, I never see anyone swear that he's IC either. (and no one cares about St. Germain lol)

... and this is the biggest difference with IDW, because fans swear that its Sonic is perfectly in line with his games portrayal. Even though there are game screenshots that directly contradict what he says in the comic. Sonic is a man of few words, IDW Sonic won't shut the fuck up; Sonic's only "principle" is helping people in need but otherwise he does what he wants; IDW Sonic acts as if he's restrained by his own moral code ("I won't sacrifice my principles out of fear"); Sonic won't even consider the idea that Eggman could reform, IDW Sonic believes that brain damage counts as reformation; Sonic lifts Shadow up and reminds him that he saved the world; IDW Sonic taunts Shadow over trying to blow up the planet; Sonic listens to Tails' advice and apologizes when he doesn't, IDW Sonic brushes him off constantly; Sonic doesn't like being called honorifics like Mr. Sonic, IDW Sonic sees nothing wrong with being called "sir" by an obviously traumatized kid... you get the idea.

He's not the only OOC character, of course, because we also have a profoundly stupid Eggman and a rude Shadow and an Amy that flipflops between being a competent leader and a scaredy cat who reliquishes her authority to Jewel, among others.

But, with the sole exception of Shadow whose lousy portrayal is blamed on Mandates, fans seem to really believe there is nothing wrong with anything. Sonic really is a merciful guy who would beg Eggman to come around! He so would stand on a rock spouting his whole life philosophy! Eggman really never has a solid plan! Amy really is that badass (well, yes, she is, but not like that lol)!

So this is what's infuriating. It's not only watching characters you love being bastardized or treated without respect; it's the total dissonance between what you see and what the majority sees, and knowing that this is legitimately influencing fanon's perception of said characters.

The fandom I chose for is Danganronpa (V3), and I don't wish to be matched with Korekiyo and Tsumugi (sorry, personal vendettas)

Im 5"1 - 5"2, short black hair, brown eyes, and I'm basically fem representing (nonbinary). I have a little bit of chub but I hate it when people comment on it, since its something I have a sensitive spot on. Other than my appearance, I'm basically a victim of rbf (resting bitch face) syndrome and drive people away from it, alongside with looking scary appearance wise.

Despite this, I'm a kind person and very empathetic to those that I meet and am close to. I am loyal to my friends to a fault and if someone harms them, I end up standing by them in their stead to protect them. Although I have a bad temper and am extremely stubborn, which could lead to my misfortune at times when the situation calls for it.

I'm an Aries, and I enjoy a lot of hobbies— mostly writing, drawing, and even playing horror games! I have a knack with old horror RPG games because they are fun to solve with, even if I do get a little scared at times when it gets intense. I also enjoy VNs, my favorite being horror ones than romance (especially those with mysteries).

In my friend group, I'm the therapist friend and I accept that role wholeheartedly. I tend to be the one to give people advice, hear them out, and comfort them when needed be. Of course, it does lead to me burning out, but I shrug it off because it's something I can do on my own.

My favorites are definitely eating sweets, and being with my companions. I enjoy a good mystery as well, even if it wracks my brain. I don't enjoy riddles because I'm... Not too big brained for it (oops), and I don't enjoy blaming others for their mistakes.

OKAY SO FIRST OF ALL you have the characters aka the canon couple (Anakin Skywalker & Padmé Amidala that i think most people know at least from names?) and then you have Rex aka Captain Rex aka Anakin's right hand man during the Clones Wars and LISTEN in general i love their relationship but if you add poly to it??? -chefkiss-

Like listen you have one of the most powerful Jedi, one of the most badass & kindest Senator & one of the best Clones Officer around there, you put them in a room together, and they lost all their braincell and something ends up in fire. There's so much raw chaos in them. They're so competent but they forget everything when you put them together. They just go and cause so many problem, they're probably the reason why Mace Windu decided to stay bald and why Obi-Wan Kenobi ended up grey that young.

Various exemple of their chaotic energy: the very classic "someone is trying to assassinate me so I'm gonna go into the lion's den and almost get killed, i mean i did take my Jedi bodyguard with me after all—" from one Padmé Amidala; "one of my friends got killed so I'm gonna resolve his murder even if it's not my job" from the same Padmé Amidala; "imma gonna crash this ship on the enemies bc why not" by Anakin Skywalker (self-proclamed best pilot of the Galaxy); "imma gonna give my lightsaber to my very secret wife to prove to her how much i love her and oooops there's a hostage situation and i don't have my weapon anymore" by, again, Anakin; "I'm gonna shot point blank at a clone bc he was acting suspicious and I'm not telling anyone and especially not my superior officer why i did that — hey look it was a droid i was right lol" by Rex; "you know what since droids want to pretend they're us I'm gonna pretend I'm a droid in clone armor" by Rex AGAIN; and, obviously, the whole "Padmé & Anakin are married but it's a secret so obviously we're gonna kiss everywhere, give lovesick at each other all the time, acting all lovey-dovey and/or jealous when with each other, to the point that even our enemies know we have something going on", to the "Rex for some reasons knows about their relationship and is trying to cover for them but he's really not any better than them in the art of lying and/or pretending he has no idea what's going on". They're disasters and i love them <3

ALSO Re: the last part, there's a whole scene where 1) Anakin is like "hey Rex come on we have something to do -wink wink wink-" IN FRONT OF SOME OF THEIR MEN 2) Rex is like "srly, rn now??" And Anakin insists and i swear when you watch this scene without context........ so gay 3) Anakin uses Rex's helmet to call Padmé "in secret" (re: they're so bad at keeping it a secret) and Rex is keeping guard 4) while they are talking, and despite the fact that they haven't seen each other in months and haven't been able to talk to each other a lot, Anakin asks advices to Padmé bc he's worried about Rex and wants to help him 4) Padmé knows Rex & the way he think enough to reassure Anakin and she's also worried about Rex but trusts him 5) LISTEN THEY'RE IN LOVE I DON'T MAKE THE RULES.

Anakin/Padmé is pretty much established but it's like,,,, so easy to add Rex to their couple??? Like, ofc Anakin is close with him, he's his most trusted man and his right hand man!! He knows him & cares for him & trusts him everything and everyone he hold dear!!! But also Rex & Padmé bonded in their own way!! Like, mainly, they got infected by a dead virus together and almost died, which, u know, is always a good way to bond with your future wife <3 And they're obviously friends!! And i absolutely believe they team-up to stop Anakin from doing his most stupid ideas lmao (at least when it's not their brand of chaos and thus they enable him ofc).

ALSO there's Ahsoka!!! She's Anakin's Padawan so obviously she's close to him, and bc she goes to war with him she's also close to Rex (and the rest of their men, tbh it always kills me a little how they all care for each other)!! He gives her advices and takes care of her and supports her!!! And they obviously love each other a lot!!! Rex's love for Ahsoka literally saved her life during Order 66 idkdjdj I'm so normal about it. BUT ALSO she's close to Padmé!!! Padmé is her friend!! She follows Padmé on stupid mission she decided to do herself and uses as justification "Anakin told me to stay with her to learn politic :D" kdjdjdjdj anyway she's at the same time their little sister and their kid and i LOVE IT.

Also there's so much angst potential. Like, Rex survived the end of the war but neither did Anakin nor Padmé. Rex didn't know Luke & Leia were their children. He was robbed of his kids' whole life!!! Rex didn't know about Anakin being Darth Vader either!! (He had a suspicion but no real answer.) How do you want me to be normal about it???

And in a Palpatine-slips-on-a-banana-peel-and-dies au, they can just raise the twins together and they would be even more chaotic that they already are in canon <3 but also i think they deserve it. As a treat.

Anyway i love them so much and we're like five out there shipping them but IT'S FINE. MY LIVE WILL NOT DIE.
