why did my dad have to have his retirement party on a day i could have been going wonking instead. does he hate women or something goddamn
#can’t go after the party this man’s work is 40 minutes away and idk how long this stupid party will go on#and then our normal movie theater is 30 minutes from home in the other direction#and i refuse to go to a new theater i’m not spontaneous like that#the drive to the theater is normal on a regular day but the timing just sucks today#and tomorrow won’t work because my sister has stuff to do#and friday i have work. and saturday i have work. and sunday we have church and my aunts house#and then monday through wednesday we’re in pennsylvania#and then there’s new years to worry about#i do NOT want to spend new years with my dad and his sisters so i haven’t requested off work for the 30th in hopes i can use that as an#excuse to stay home. and if i stay home so might my sister#and THEN. maybe we can get wonking#unless my dad tries to be like oh but we can go on the 31st to go meet them! and then i won’t have a choice#unless i threaten to kill myself. but i won’t do that that would be crazy#but i don’t want to go to that. none of my cousins will be there my sister and i would be the only ones there who aren’t in their 60s#like. nothing wrong with hanging with the old ladies but why can’t my dad hang out with his sisters and their husbands alone.#why would you even want your two random daughters in their 20s there. weirdo#i know he’s just upset that my mom won’t go but like he knew the whole time she was gonna spend new years with HER sister. like get over it#hoping to get my sister on my side soon so we can unionize to not go. i know she already didnt want to but i need her to not change her mind#she has a tendency to feel bad for our dad when he wants us to do annoying shit. it’s her oldest daughter syndrome i guess. 🙄

May I request an idea/imagine?
It is about yandere! mental asylum patient and psychiatrist! reader, who is very practical and strict regarding her job, takes no BS from others. But, for some reason, she has a soft spot for yandere! mental asylum patient. The reason could either be he had a hard childhood in which he had to do what he had to do, which brutally killed his father, who used to abuse his mother and sister, but when the father tried to sell the sister into prostitution to buy more alcohol, all hell break lose. Psychiatrist! reader thinks what yandere! mental asylum the patient did was OKAY, and she wants to get him out of the asylum. They love each other deeply and would do anything, so far as to kill for one another. If you can, make it as twisted as you can. I live for some dark romance!
Please ignore my request if you are not able to do it. I completely understand. Thank you in advance! <3
Oh my, this request hits somewhat close to home as I have a friend incarcerated for similar reasons. I'm pondering the logistics behind this context you've provided, since murdering someone won't necessarily land you in a psych ward unless there are other symptoms that come with it. And so I've taken the liberty to expand the character's profile if that's alright. (Conveniently enough I still have my psychopathology lecture notes)
I want to add, however, that this story in no way romanticizes mental illness! If anything, one may consider it an opportunity to reflect on the fact that so many people struggling with disorders do not receive the proper care for it, or only do so when it's too late. Furthermore a medical professional should never, ever behave like this and whatever is written here should stay in the realm of fiction!
Yandere! Patient x Psychiatrist! Reader
Featuring a patient that's pushing the boundaries of your work ethic and might even succeed.
Content/warnings: female reader, detailed mentions of mental disorder, violence, obsessive behavior, breach of professional conduct
Tumblr media
You roll up your sleeve and check your watch. He should be here soon. Out of habit, you shuffle the papers for a quick case review, even though you already know all the details by heart. You carefully set aside the patient’s MMPI and WHODAS entry assessments, then your first interviews. Your eyes briefly rest upon the resulting report you’ve comprised: Schizophreniform Disorder (Provisional) with good prognostic features; Diagnostic criteria consisting of delusions, disorganized speech (frequent derailment with episodes of incoherence, echolalia) and comorbid catatonia. Responds well to antipsychotic (clozapine 25mg/12 h) with no imminent need for dosage increase. As it currently stands, he will be fit for proper incarceration in less than 6 months. Is it something you agree with? Not quite. You’ve presented your case many times and it has always been met with pitiful shrugs and dismissals.
The door opens and you fix your posture, sweeping the documents back into your drawer. “And? How are you feeling today?” You ask, flashing a professional, cordial smile as the assisting nurse leads the patient to his seat and prepares her leave. “My chest hurts.” The man answers in a low voice, glaring at the nurse. He taps his foot against the plush carpet, seemingly restless. “How bad would you rate it? Chest pain is a somewhat common side effect of your medication.” You retort, following the movements of the woman finally excusing herself and exiting the room. Once you’re alone, the man’s shoulders droop and he visibly relaxes. “It’s not that, you know it. When can I touch you again?” He pleads, despair twisting his features. You tense up at the words. “Behave yourself. It hasn’t been that long.”
It’s not something you’re particularly proud of. In fact, you might even call it one of your great shames in life. You’ve always been a textbook professional, perhaps even too strict according to your coworkers and most patients. Not even in your wildest dreams would you have dared to imagine you’d violate the code of ethics by falling in love with your patient. But something about his situation stirred your sense of justice. Surely one cannot be punished for protecting their loved ones. The only criminal in the equation, at least in your eyes, was that joke of a father and he had it coming. So you found yourself wrestling against a blooming protectiveness and favoritism towards the young man brought here last month.
What would have normally compelled you into action had therefore been silently swept under the rug. Or even worse, you secretly indulged in it. A patient showing signs of affection towards you would instantly be transferred to a different psychiatrist. Yet you couldn’t put away the letters written by this one. Erratic, crumpled notes of “I love you” written countless times, pencil dug so deep it tore into the sheet. Bizarre illustrations that looked almost threatening. His elaborate delusions before medication was introduced, where he’d detail in grand narratives how you were fated for each other and nothing would stop him from having you sooner or later. You do not know what forces possessed you into this addictive plunge, but you’ve come to enjoy his violent, frenzied confessions. So much, that during one of the unsupervised meetings you let yourself pushed into the sofa as his hands tugged at your body in rabid need. It was so out of character that you wondered if it truly happened, though the bite marks and scratches on your neck and chest proved otherwise.
“Are they going to send me to prison?” He changes the subject and stands up, walking towards your desk. “Most likely. What you have is the result of a traumatic event, not a lifelong condition. Sporadic episodes that can be kept under control with antipsychotics aren’t enough of a reason to keep you in the hospital.” You press your legs together nervously and glance at him. “Can’t you just say it’s no longer working?” He suggests, kneeling before you and placing a hand on your thigh. “You know I can’t lie on the report.” You really don’t like it when he manipulates you like this. “Ah, yes, because lying is worse than fucking your patient.” He scoffs, annoyed. “Don’t threaten me like that”, you say as you turn towards him, but you’re stopped by the rough grip of his hand over your cheeks. “I’m not threatening you, I’m threatening everyone else. Listen, (Y/N), I’m not fucking around. I don’t mind pretending to be crazy if I have to. Will the meds still be working if I steal a shaving razor and cut the nurse open?” You try to open your mouth, but his fingers are pressed into your skin, locking your jaw into place. “I’m not going to prison. I’m not. Then I’ll never see you again and that can’t happen. You know that.”
Eventually he releases his hold, allowing you to speak. "I understand. Then there's no choice but to arrange your escape." You sigh, defeated, and he raises his eyebrows. "Won't that get you in trouble?" You chuckle at his statement. "Either way I'll be in trouble. You said it yourself. Might as well quit before I have to stand in front of the ethics board and have my license revoked." You'd prefer to keep the last ounce of pride if possible.
He sits on the floor and you notice his trembling hands. "Nervous?" You ask. "No. Just really happy. I'm not a bad person and you were the only one here to see it. But God, (Y/N), I'd kill anyone if it was for your sake. I can't wait to hold you whenever I want." He gazes at you as a smile widens on his face.

Saw your post asking for Zach Maclaren request so here I am!
What about reader getting run over by the car instead of Zach and she looses her memory kinda like the movie but reversed? She thinks Zach is her bf cause she has a bf named Zach but he’s an asshole.
The Other Zach
Pairing: Zach MacLaren x Reader
Warnings: Swearing and Getting Hit By A Car
Pronouns: She/Her
Word Count: 3.2K
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Yet another argument with her boyfriend. Yet another time she is walking home upset. Even worse, it’s three in the afternoon so everyone on the street can watch her sad walk home. She feels like everyone around her is staring, judging her for staying with such a dick. As she walks across the parking lot with her head in the clouds, a soccer ball comes rolling toward her. Y/N’s eyes dart up to see Zach MacLaren walking over to her with a big smile, pointing down at the ball to ask her to send it over. She bends down to pick it up, but as she starts to straighten out, a sudden force from behind her sends her head smashing to the pavement.
Zach watches the whole thing happen before his very eyes. He screams at his sister’s soccer team to stay there and runs to make sure the driver doesn’t try to keep reversing over Y/N. Everyone knew her. She works at the cafe on campus and is known to brighten everyone’s day. Once the driver knows he hit someone and is on the phone with the dispatcher, Zach goes to check on Y/N. She is out cold and this causes him to panic. He checks for a pulse. Relief floods him when he finds one and it is only a matter of her waking up. Her eyes flutter open and her vision is blurry. There is a face over her that she can’t make out. “My name is Zach,” she overhears the unidentifiable face. Her boyfriend. He must have gone after her to apologize. She starts to see more clearly and she wraps her arms around his neck. Her lips try to find him, but he pulls away. “Hey, take it easy. You got hit pretty hard in the noggin,” he advises, looking up at the sound of the ambulance.
——
The paramedics are about to take Y/N away, but she stops them from taking her. She looks at Zack, “Aren’t you going to come with me?.” He looks at her and his heart is pulling him to enter the vehicle, but he doesn’t feel it is right. He has no relation to her in any way. The paramedic counsels it might be better if he comes to help keep her calm and now, he feels he has no choice. “Of course, I just need to make sure an adult can stay with my soccer team. I’ll be right back,” he informs. He heads over to the field’s sidelines, talking to one of the waiting moms about what happened. He is reassured that she will make sure all the kids get home safely, so he heads back to the ambulance.
After the doctor does his assessment, Zach and Y/N learn she has a concussion and probably amnesia. Zach could definitely a test to the last part since she seems to think he is her boyfriend. “Sweetie, what happened are you okay?” an older woman, who looks like Y/N, frets, rushing to her. Zach assumes this is Y/N’s mom and goes in to reassure her, “She has a mild concussion and amnesia.” The man with the mother raises his eyebrow. “And are you her doctor?” he questions. Zach shakes his head, “No, I’m Zach. I was with her when she got hit by the car.” The man nods and her mother’s eyes light up. “So you’re the boyfriend. It is so nice to meet you, I’m Kim and this is Gary. We are Y/N’s parents. She’s told us so much about you,” Kim introduces. Y/N goes on to complain, “Way to keep it cool, Mom.” “I’m sorry, Sweetie. But he is so cute and seems nice,” Kim apologizes. Zach feels strange about just letting the family believe he is actually Y/N’s boyfriend, but there isn’t exactly a good time to say that while in the hospital. The doctor returns to speak with her parent, so Zach excuses himself to call someone for advice.
“Guess where I am,” he whispers into the phone. Zoey checks the time, “Coaching your sister’s soccer practice?” “No. I’m at the hospital,” he replies. She sits up from her lying position on the couch, “Are you okay? What happened?”
“I’m fine. It’s just that Y/N Y/L/N got hit by a car. Now, she and her whole family think I am her boyfriend.”
“Elle says she is dating a Zach. Zach Davis. He’s the captain of the hockey team. She just sent you his Insta.”
While Zach scrolls through the other Zach’s profile, the doctor catches his attention. “Oh, and Mr. Boyfriend. Make sure she stays calm. We wouldn’t want anything stressing her out and making her conduction worse,” she instructs before walking off. Zach groans into the phone, “What am I supposed to do if I can’t stress her out?” “Okay, calm down. Just take her parents aside and let them break the news to her,” Zoey explains. Calm washes over his face, “Yes, that’s a great idea. You are one smart cookie, Zoey Miller.” They bid their goodbyes and he heads back to the Y/L/Ns.
“Zach, you’re back. We were just talking about you. How would you like to come over for dinner tonight?” Kim asks, helping Y/N sit up so she can get ready to be discharged. It’s like the perfect opportunity falls into his lap.
——
He walks into the Y/L/N’s residence, helping Y/N onto the couch. “Your parents have a nice house,” he looks around the room. As soon as they are settled on the couch, a little boy pops up from behind the couch with a scream. A man a little bit older than Zach sets himself on the chair beside the couch. “Connor, don’t scare her. She has a concussion,” he chides the younger boy. Y/N sighs, “Zach, this is my little brother, Connor. And my older brother, uhh…” “Jared. His name is Jared,” Connor offers with a devious smile. Y/N nods, “Right, Jared. This is my older brother, Jared.” Zach sees Connor’s giggles and leans towards her, “I think he is messing with you, Baby.” “Oh. I think you are right,” she rubs her forehead, trying to remember her brother’s name. “Jack. His name is Jack.” Jack lets out a cheer and holds out his hand for Zach to take.
Soon, dinner is served and Zach sits beside Y/N. As Connor is recounting his day, Y/N goes to whisper in his ear, “Thank you for keeping up with my strange family. I know you didn’t want to meet them, but it means a lot that you are here.” Zach feels bad at the words she says. Why wouldn’t her real boyfriend want to meet her family? They are so kind and funny. And Y/N is amazing. Even with a concussion, she is so bright and genuine. He has always had a little bit of a crush on her, ever since she gave him a coffee on the house when she saw he was having a hard day. She wrote his name with a happy face and little hearts, which made his day. Sometimes he finds himself going where she works just to see her smile.
“No problem. I think your family is great,” he says, looking at her with a smile. She grins back at him and slides her fingers through his hand on his lap. “Well, if you think we are so great, why don’t you come skiing with us this weekend?” Gary suggests, overhearing the whispers between his daughter and her (not) boyfriend. Zach knows the words about to come out of his mouth shouldn’t be the ones that follow, but he really does like her family and he wants to get the opportunity to get to know her better. He knows it is wrong to take Y/N’s moment of confusion and to take it as a chance to fill his delusion. However, he really doesn’t see any harm in pretending for the weekend.
——
“Are you sure you don’t want to hit the slopes? You don’t have to stay behind just for me,” Y/N double-checks, looking at him behind the couch. He sits on the back of the couch and lets himself flop back on the seat cushion. He nods, “Yep. I think it would be nice to hang out with you.” “Really? Well, I’m a very busy gal, I have to check my schedule,” she teases, taking out her phone to look at her calendar. “Oh, look at that the only thing I have planned is to have a concussion. I guess we can hang out.” He grins at her and sits up, scooting closer to her. She scoots over to sit beside him, putting herself under his arms, which makes him happy. “What should we do?” he inquires, looking down at her with a smile. She plays at putting thought into it and drags him to the game room.
They head over to the air hockey table, but she notices Zach’s gaze toward the foosball table. “We can play foosball if you’d like. I just thought you would like air hockey more since you are on the team,” she explains, changing way toward the other table. Zach has to quickly cover his tracks, “Uh, yeah. I do like hockey, but I’m better at foosball than air hockey.”
The game they play fills the room with laughter. Zach would yell at her for cheating by spinning her knob, while she would argue she is just using her tools to her advantage. After her last spin causes the tiny ball to sail through the hole for the goal, Zach runs around to her side and picks her up by the waist. “That is the last time you cheat!” he playfully reprimands. Her laughter stops and her hand flies to her head. She starts to move in a dizzy-like motion with her hand still stuck to her head. “Are you okay? Did I grab you too hard? What can I do?” he worries, removing his hands from her to look into her eyes. The tiny giggles she lets out make him feel like she is evil, “I’m just playing with you. I’m sorry. But you can make us something to eat. I can’t use any screens and I have absolutely no recipes memorized.”
——
She watched him in amazement as he made the pizza. She found it incredibly hot to watch him toss the pizza dough in the air. He flicked a little flour at her and she ran away with a shriek. After getting the pizza out of the oven, he helps her up onto the counter and cuts the food. She takes the first bite and the moan she lets out absolutely kills Zach. He finds the pizza held out in front of his mouth, taking a bite at her encouragement. He really hopes the food hides his blush. “This tastes great! Where did you learn how to cook?” she praises, going in for another bite. His blush deepens, “I took lessons as a kid. It was really fun.” Her eyebrows raised. “Really? I always saw you as a more, I will only do hockey because hockey is my life kind of guy.”
“Right, hockey. I love socc- I love so much hockey, but I don’t think hockey is what I’m going to do after graduation.”
“Why not? If you like it so much, why don’t you go pro?”
“I do like it, but let’s be honest, I’m not good enough to get drafted. Truth is I don’t know what I’m going to do after graduation.”
“I haven’t seen you play hockey much or really understand how it is played, but I’m sure that isn’t true. But anyway, if you don’t think hockey is your thing, I think opening a pizza place is your path. This is great.”
Although she doesn’t know he is talking about soccer, he loves that she can see him passed the athlete and see a different part of him. Most people he knows are just interested in him because of his sport. “So what do you want to do after graduation?” he questions, picking up another slice for himself. Her eyes light up, “I’m not too sure yet. I know I’m a computer science major, but I really just chose it because it can be a useful fallback. I think maybe I want to travel around the world and take pictures.” He is touched that she is so open and honest with her answer. He likes that even though her future seems uncertain, she is still hopeful about it. “That sounds amazing. If you need a travelling partner, then I would gladly go with you. I’m sure you are an amazing photographer,” he encourages. Again, a confused look crosses her face, “I thought you hated going outside of the US. You said that nothing good happens outside of America.” Zach fears that his lies are going to start to unravel. The universe seems to come in for the assist because her family comes back at that moment.
“Hey, you two. What did you do today?” Kim ponders, giving Y/N a kiss on her cheek. She smiles at her mom, “What didn’t we do?” Everyone over the age of eighteen widens their eyes and Zach helps clear things up. “All PG.” Completely missing the moment Connor pats his pockets. “I left my gloves at the lodge. We have to go back,” he panics. Zach jumps off the counter and pats his back, “Don’t worry, Con. Y/N and I can go with you to get it.”
They get to the lodge and Connor runs inside to get his gloves. Zach turns to Y/N to find her making a snowman. “Need some help?” he proposes, walking over to her. She nods with a smile and they get to work on the snowman. She makes the middle part while he forms the bottom and once she is done, she picks it up to bring it to him. She trips over her feet and goes flying toward him. He catches her as he falls back. The snow from her ball smushes between them. They both sit up while laughing. Her hair falls over her face and he brushes it out of the way, leaving his warm hand on her cheek. The sun lightens her hair and this moment feels perfect. He has been avoiding kissing her to not take advantage of her, but it felt right in the moment. His lips find hers and fireworks spark between them. He scoots forward to deepen the kiss, bringing his other hand up to her cheek until Connor comes out and ruins the kiss.
——
The weekend comes to an end too fast for Zach. The group recounts their highlights of the mini-vacation, laughing that Connor’s favourite part was playing Battletoads with Zach. Zach is helping Y/N with her bags when the engine of a car catches their attention. “Y/N Y/L/N, you haven’t been answering my texts,” a low voice growls. Y/N freezes at the voice and turns toward the man. Distress washes over her, “Who are you?” She takes a step closer to Zach and he wants to curl his arms around her to make her feel protected. “Who am I? I’m Zach Davis, your boyfriend,” he shouts with his eyebrow knitted. Now, her family looks confused. “You can’t be her boyfriend because he is her boyfriend,” Gary points out, looking toward Zach. Her real boyfriend lets out a low laugh, “Of course, that bitch is cheating on me. Why am I not surprised?” Anger flushes through Zach.
“Hey! Don’t talk about her like that. She isn’t cheating on you. It’s my fault she isn’t answering your texts; I lied to her. She got hit by a car and lost her memory. My name is also Zach and she thought I was her boyfriend. I didn’t have the heart to tell her the truth,” Zach clarifies. “I’m sorry for lying, Y/N. I just wanted to get to know you and I’m glad I got to because you really are the most amazing person I have ever met. I’m going to go now before I make this more awkward.” Before Zach is out of hearing distance, he can hear Connor complaining that he is better than Y/N’s actual boyfriend. This causes a sad smile to form on Zach’s face.
——
It has been weeks since he last saw Y/N. He has been too embarrassed to go back to her parents’ house and only goes to class then back home. Zach is used to being the gossip of the campus because he is on the soccer team, but it feels a little different when people are talking about his deception. Zoey enters his dorm to find Zach watching a cooking show while eating ice cream. “You can’t just stay up here for the rest of your life,” she critiques, opening his curtains. He ignores her gaze, “Yes, I can. She said that I could open a pizza store.” His mind is blank except for thoughts of her. “I know she did. You’ve told me that a hundred times already,” Zoey gives him a tight-lipped smile.
“Why did I have to mess up so badly?”
“Because you were blinded by love. I can’t believe I just said that. But you like her. That’s why.”
“Right, and I had to lie to her, which broke her trust. Now, she is happily off with Zach Davis.”
“You know they broke up, right? Like literally right after the ski trip.”
“Really? Why?”
“That’s only a question that she can answer.”
——
Zach has been thinking about it all day and has decided to go see Y/N. Her bright smile is the first thing he sees when he enters the coffee shop. It makes his heart leap when it doesn’t drop at the sight of him. Instead, it softens, somehow getting warmer. “Hi,” he awkwardly greets, hand shooting up to the back of his neck. She breaths out, “Hey, I’ve been looking for you.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really. You disappeared on me the other day.”
“Yeah, I didn’t think you would want to see me after you found out the truth.”
She whispers something to her co-worker and rounds the counter, taking off her apron on the way. She stands in front of him and takes his hand in hers. “I was a little upset at first, but then I realized that I couldn’t be mad at you. Do you want to know why?” she confesses. He nods his head like a child in anticipation. “Cause you are the Zach I want to be with. You helped me realize how much of an asshole Davis was to me. You treated me with so much love and made me feel safe.” Zach is ecstatic at her words and rushes forward to give her the kiss they have both been waiting for. It is soft but passionate, showing the need they both felt for each other. His arms round her body, engulfing her in the safety of his embrace. Zach Maclaren can’t believe he has found love with the girl he has always wanted.

Another version of Bestie’s Werewolf Brother where you two have fallen out of contact for years and when he finds out you’re having a baby with someone else because you start being friends with his sister again and he gets really possessive and starts stalking you again. He finds out you’re a single mom and suddenly he realizes he just wants a baby with you even if it’s not his pup 🥺❣️Mostly fluff plz but I’d love some smut too
Not you bringing out this trope when I literally posted it’s my fave. Lol. No smut all fluff but I might do more with this if y’all like it 🥰
When you got pregnant your boyfriend acted like he was happy. He lavished you in compliments and told everyone how excited he was to be starting a family with you. Your childhood bestie and you even reconnected, her excited about baby names and planning your baby shower. It’s like you picked up right where you left off.
When you ask about her brother, she’s obviously uncomfortable. She comes up with all kinds of excuses about why he doesn’t want to talk to you, or why he seemed to have just vanished off social media recently. You can’t help but feeling hurt but you keep it to yourself.
When you catch your boyfriend cheating on you, you end up packing up all your stuff in a night and moving back in with your parents. It sucks. You can’t help but feel like a failure. You start going for walks more at the local park, just trying anything to keep your mind off your predicament.
“Hey,” you heard a familiar voice say from behind you.
You didn’t know that he had already been stalking you for months. Ever since he found out you were pregnant. He thought he could get past it, get past you, but hearing that you had been with someone else drove him crazy. He wanted to be angry with you. To hate you, even, and that other man’s baby, but the longer he stalked you, the more he realized how much he missed you. How he just wanted to be around you again.
“Hi,” you said as you turned around, awkwardly holding your arms in front of your stomach. You knew he knew, but you couldn’t help but wish this wasn’t the first time he was seeing you after all these years.
“It looks like you’re doing well.”
You shrugged, moving your arms and shoving your hands in your pockets. “I guess.”
“My sister said you’re… getting engaged,” he managed to get out without growling.
“We were, but some stuff happened. I’m living back at home until I can find a place.”
He knew he shouldn’t be happy, but he was. After that, he started offering to help you with everything. Need someone to drive you to an OBGYN appointment? Needed help putting the bassinet together? Couldn’t figure out which kind of car seat to get? He was always there and offering to help.
You were surprised, pleasantly so. You’d never thought much about it, but you didn’t think that he would be so involved in your pregnancy when 1) you weren’t dating and 2) it wasn’t his baby. As the weeks passed, he started asking to touch your stomach when he saw movement. He came to your parents’ house all hours of the day if you even hinted that you wanted to see him or if you wanted something.
When you went into labor, your mother took you, much to his disappointment. He came to visit you of course, but he seemed a little off when he came in. His head was down, and he wasn’t nearly as imposing as he normally was, especially considering he was mostly shifted. Then a nurse came back in with the baby after giving a bath.
“Oh! Here’s Dad,” she smiled as she placed the small bundle in his arms, though she did admittedly look a little uneasy.
You started to correct her, but he just started at the little one in his arms with wide eyes. You’d never seen him be so gentle. His ears were perked up, and you couldn’t help but notice his tail started to wag. He shushed you mid-sentence as you tried telling the nurse he wasn’t the dad.
“Human babies are so tiny,” he whispered, rocking the baby in his arms.
The nurse looked between you before slipping out. He stayed almost the entire time you were in the hospital. Even your parents left more often than him. While he was attentive to you, he was even more attentive to the baby. Asking the nurses to show him how to swaddle. Reading up on when human babies can eat solid food (because it’s just a couple months for pups).
He’s the one that took you home. Your parents are excited when they see his car pull up and you’re admittedly a little confused. When you get inside, you see that he took it upon himself to baby proof everything. He put together an entire nursery when you were just going to have the baby sleep in your room in the bassinet. He even sprung to get a crib since he had read online that infants can only be in bassinets for a few months.
That’s when you realize that he really is the best for you. He’s always been the best for you, and he’s the best for your baby too. The baby fell asleep in his arms before he settled the tiny bundle into the crib. Tears pricked your eyes as you wrapped your arms around his back, burying your face in his shoulder.
“You’ll stay, right?”
A low rumble in his chest vibrated your body when he spun around, grabbing you up in his arms. “I’ll never leave again.”

Eat at Baratie! - OPLA!Sanji x Fem!Reader
Might do a part two, there might be more of this that comes to mind!
Inspo is from @madmadamemimble who said : "Sanji recognizes reader as a former patron of the baratie a few years back. Why does he remember them? They dined and dashed. On his watch. Zeff. Was. Furious. He still begrudges them for the lengthy month of chore duty he got stuck with as a result. But how could he ever stay mad at someone so beautiful, kind and charming."
Warnings: none? mentions of a dine and dash in the past. Don't do that to your waiters guys :)

You felt yourself tense when your little brother led you all through the fog and towards the Baratie. Normally you didn’t return to places that you had left on a rather…unhappy note. But you also knew that you didn’t stand a chance against Luffy’s appetite.
But maybe the waiter from before wasn’t working there anymore? And the Head Chef and Owner, who you knew to be Red Leg Zeff, had never seen your face. So you knew there was a slight chance you’d make it through this. After all, you didn’t even have a reservation.
You weren’t proud of your prior actions, but back then the simple dine and dash had just been a moment in the wind. You definitely hadn’t planned on returning.
And you definitely weren’t telling your brother.
Growing up two years Luffy’s elder, you made it your own personal mission to look out for him. Especially after Shanks had left. You had taken his departure personally, the pirate genuinely being your father. Luffy had never quite told you how that moment had affected him, it was the one of the few things he had never opened up to you about. But you had seen how much he treasured his hat. He called you his sister though. And you called him your brother.
You and Nami stood more towards the back of the group as Luffy and Usopp attempted to get a table.
“You’re tense.” She pointed out.
Being the only two girls aboard the Going Merry, you liked to think you and Nami were friends.
You lowered your voice. “Don’t tell my brother, but I might have dined and dashed here a few years back.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “You?”
You nodded. “Took a few months a few years back to see what I could. I felt restless back home, and Luffy wasn’t quite ready to head for the Grand Line. I wound up here, hungry and broke. I feel bad for the waiter, if I’m honest. He was…charming, and easy on the eyes.”
Nami smirked, a quick laugh passing through her nose. “Well then, maybe he’s still working here.” She walked over to the host and pulled some Berry from her pouch. “Excuse those two, they’re idiots.”
“Nami!” You were floored. Had she not been listening when you said you had dined and dashed?
“Relax, you said it yourself, it’s been years.”
You groaned as you followed the group to the table, seating yourself between Nami and Zoro, trying to vanish into the booth.
“Are you okay?” Luffy asked, not quite sure what to make of your antics but concerned none the less.
You kicked Nami in the shin under the table as she opened her mouth.
“I’m fine. Just tired.” You told your brother, reluctantly sitting up.
There was a shout a ways away, toward the entrance to the kitchens. You couldn’t quite tell what was happening from your angle, but you recognized the accented voice that followed.
“No cause for alarm folks, return to your meals.”
Your gaze fused itself to the tablecloth.
A basket of bread was set on the table.
“Hi, welcome to our shitty restraunt where the only thing worse than the ambiance is our food. My name is Sanji, what can I get for you?”
You frowned, looking up.
It was the same man from the last time you were here, but the charm was…missing. Odd.
Luffy had dug into the bread with joy. “One of everything please!”
Sanji glanced at your brother. “Anything to drink? Perhaps one of our signature cocktails to help you choke down your meal?”
Your eyebrows shot up.
“Wow. Giving us the hard sell.” Nani’s voice was sarcastic and rather deadpan.
It was like a switch had been flipped. Sanjis eyes flickered from Nami to you and seemed to linger.
“Apologies, madames, I didn’t see you there. Would you care for an aperitif to start? We have several rare Micqueot vintages in stock. Or perhaps a glass of Umeshu? You know, something sweet for someone sweet.”
The wink that followed was obviously directed at you and you felt your cheeks warm despite the situation. You returned your gaze to the table.
“Something wrong with your eye?” Nami questioned.
Sanji merely smiled. “Just blinded by beauty.”
You heard Nami order the both of you plain waters and the receding footsteps of your waiter.
As soon as he was out of earshot, the boys started giggling at the obvious flip to his personality. You rolled your eyes and nudged Zoro to let you out of the booth.
“I’mma get some air.” You muttered lamely.
The open air bar was cooler than the dining room, you noticed as you leaned against the railing.
“You caused me quite the bit of trouble the last time you were here. I trust you don’t plan on pulling such a stunt again?”
The blond was at your side, resting his forearms on the railing, a lit cigarett dangling from his fingertips.
“I have berry.”
He raised a brow, taking a drag. “And you didn’t before I take it.”
You shook your head. “Not at the time. I’m sorry about that by the way. I didn’t mean to get you into any trouble with Zeff.”
“It wasn’t too bad,” he smiled, grey blue eyes meeting yours. “Just a month’s worth of extra kitchen chores. Honestly, Zeff could have done much worse. I think, that as long as it doesn’t happen again, we’ll be alright.”
“We?”
“I trust you’ll be docked while your ship receives repairs, and I’d love a chance to get to know a lady as charming as yourself.”
You laughed. Something about him was enthralling. You couldn’t tell if it was the charm, the accent, the smile, the way his hair fell in his face, or even just the way he looked. Something about him reeled you in like a fish on a line.
“Maybe a drink after my shift?” He asked, hopefully.
“I’d like that, Sanji.” You said with a smile.
“Ah, and the beautiful lady blesses me with a drink. I should get back to work, I’ll see you later then?”
“Yeah, I should be getting back to my brother.”
“Until later, then.”
You smiled as he walked away, back into the dining room. Maybe coming back to the Baratie was a good idea after all.

After a tiring day of hero work, all Katsuki wanted to do was take off his work uniform, take a shower, eat the delicious dinner he knows you’ve prepared for him, spend a little time with his kids, and hit the hay.
And if he was lucky, maybe you’ll let him get close to you too
He set his house/car keys in the bowl on the nearby table before making his way past the kitchen into the living room.
There he saw both his middle and youngest daughters watching tv. Of course he kisses them hello, one cheek each. It wasn’t till he noticed his oldest son missing
“Where’s your brother?”
“He’s in his room”
“Yeah but he’s been in his room for hours, it’s weird.”
Hours? That is pretty weird, but not the type of weird Katsuki felt like dealing with tonight.
“Okay, well don’t you two stay staring at that tv for hours, huh?”
Both girls peeked up before instantly trying to find something else to do
‘We really need to cut their screen time..’
Finally, Katsuki had made it to your shared bedroom. He could finally be at ease.
“Hey baby, I’m home. It smells good downstairs, what are you making?” Katsuki said kissed your forehead
“Just curry…Y’know, the usual..” You answered, not looking up from the book you’ve been reading.
Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows at your tone. Usually he wouldn’t dwell but he can’t do that when it comes to you and he knows somethings not right.
“Is everything okay? You alright?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine…you can take your shower, I’m done”
“Mm, okay-“
“Actually Katsuki-“
‘Finally, let it out’ he thought turning back to face you
I wanted to ask you about this..”
Katsuki eyes went wide as saucers as he saw what you were holding.
A pack of condoms, some missing signaling that they have been used.
“What..the hell..is…that..?”
“Hm, I don’t know Katsuki. All I know is that we have three kids, I’m on the pill, AND WE HAVENT USED A GODDMAN CONDOM IN FOUR FUCKING YEARS. SO I DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT IS KATSUKI, YOU TELL ME-“
“B-bABY I DONT KNOW? Where did you even find those???”
“DOES IT FUCKING MATTER WHERE I FOUND THEM??”
.
.
.
“God WHERE ARE THEY? I KNOW I just had them!? I swear this will be the last time I ever hold anything for Haruki”
For the past few hours, (sons name) has been searching for a missing…package that he was supposed to be holding for his friend who was at a summer camp
“Please man I can’t leave them at home! My mom will find them!”
“Please I won’t ask for anything ever again,”
Excuse after excuse after excuse, but of course (sons name) was gonna be a good friend…but if being a good friend leads him to loosing a pack of open condoms in his own house with his two sisters mom and dad, then he might want to change his juxtaposition.
It wasn’t until (son’s name) heard muffles arguing coming from his closed bedroom door.
There could only be one explanation…
“Oh…my…fuck.”
.
.
.
“ (Y/N) I PROMISE THOSE ARENT MINE, WHY WOULD I EVEN HAVE CONDOMS IN THE FIRST DANN PLACE??”
“WELL I DONT KNOW HOW ABOUT YOU TELL ME? THEY WERE IN OUR ROOM, UNDER OUR BED, ON YOUR SIDE.”
The couple continued arguing before heavy footsteps could be heard coming to their door, soon to reveal their son busting in.
“WAIT!”
Both parents glanced to their son who was out a breath trying to get out his statement.
“I-It’s mine!”
.
.
.
“WHAT?” Both parents shouted in disbelief At the same time.
“I CAN EXPLAIN! I CAN EXPLAIN! THEY’RE NOT MINE, THEY’RE A FRIENDS. HE ASKED ME IF I COULD HOLD THEM FOR HIM WHILE HE’S OUT OF TOWN…”
It went silent… no one knowing what to actually say.
Guess relaxing after work was gonna be out of the question for a while…

Oh the Assistant!Kara AU tho…so one night Lena actually gets Kara to leave earlier than her (sisters night maybe?) but as she’s leaving she hears something suspicious and heads back up to be just in time to save Lena from an assassin, and is consequently horrified because people are actually trying to kill Lena? Like, she’s used to hearing death threats again Cat but none ever materialized and the fact that these so and Lena so…casually resigned? to them? Enter supergirl mode lol.
Okay but what if Kara *isn't* there? Lena is assaulted in the parking lot or in the lobby on her way out, and Kara doesn't hear about it until she's called to the hospital for a ride home. Injuries are minor, but bandages are visible, and Lena is shaken.
Kara is livid.
"...and where was the security guard?!" She ends a long diatribe with a frustrated huff.
"I don't know."
Lena's voice is so soft in the confines of the elevator up to her apartment, it stops Kara in her tracks. She looks at her boss, who's leaning against the wall of the elevator looking rumpled and tired in a bloodstained blouse. The wisps of hair that have come loose from its style makes Lena look so young, and for the first time Kara realizes that her boss isn't all that old in the first place.
In fact, she doesn't seem much older than Kara herself.
And tonight, her empowered, forceful, kind boss is just a rattled young woman who was attacked alone in a freaking parking garage.
"Hey," Kara says softly. Taking a risk, she reaches out to rest her hand gently on Lena's arm. "I'm sorry."
"Don't." Lena's voice comes cold and harsh, shocking Kara before it almost immediately softens. "Just... if you're kind to me I might just burst into tears, and I really don't want to do that just yet."
"It's okay." Kara kicks herself. "Sorry. Right. I can be mean..."
"I don't need mean," Lena says with a small smile. "I just... I just want to be home."
Right on cue, the elevator dings open, and Lena manages to unlock the multiple deadbolts with shaking fingers. The apartment inside is massive, and Lena flips on every light as she moves inside, allowing Kara to trail in behind her. They come to a stop in the kitchen, where Lena reaches into the fridge for a carafe of filtered water. She pours herself a glass and takes a long gulp before speaking.
"Thank you for driving me. Is there anything I can get you before I head home?"
Kara shakes her head. "No, I'm good. I'll clear your schedule for tomorrow-- I heard what the doctor said about the concussion, and you really should rest."
Lena nods her gratitude. "Thank you."
Kara turns to leave, then thinks better of it and turns back. "Actually, do you mind if I stay here tonight?"
Taken aback, Lena's eyes widen. "I-- what?"
"Yeah. I mean, it's late, and it's a long way back to my place, and I shouldn't be driving when I'm so tired. They say it's as bad as driving drunk," she punctuates with a dramatic yawn. She doesn't care what excuse she throws out-- Lena's apartment is too dark and too big for Lena stay here alone tonight.
"I don't know, Kara... it wouldn't be appropriate."
"Please," Kara says, falling solemn. "For me. I'll sleep on the couch."
Lena looks at her for a long moment. Finally, she relents. "Don't be ridiculous," she sighs. "You can use the spare room."
And if Kara checks every nook and cranny of that spare room-- and every other unoccupied inch of the apartment-- for any hidden intruders before she goes to sleep, well.
Who could blame her?

I Don’t Believe You Care
Y’all are my beta readers XD if you see any errors please let me know. I’m going to post this on AO3 later.
Part one here
------
The scolding that Bruce gave Damian was the gentlest either of them had ever received, but it did cow Damian enough that he behaved while meeting Cass and Stephanie. It helped that they were sweet, Stephanie was a bit energetic and overwhelming but Cass was quiet and seemed to understand them better. She helped reign in the over-enthusiastic family friend and Danny was glad to have her as a sister. She didn’t speak much, she communicated in signs that he didn’t understand but he thought that he could learn in time, and he wanted to. When he told her so she smiled and Steph squealed, insisting loudly and brightly that they would be happy to teach him!
He couldn’t help but feel relieved that when Alfred asked Stephanie if she would be staying for dinner she joked that she should actually spend some time at home for once. It seemed like she didn’t live here, though they knew of her identity as Spoiler and her involvement with the bats, all her noise and movement wouldn’t be a consistent presence around the house. Not that Danny didn’t like her! He just thought he’d like her best in relatively small doses before she could overwhelm him.
He would ask Cass to teach him when Steph wasn’t here, it might be just slightly trickier, but he could use the excuse of letting the two friends spend the time they had together. And maybe Tim could help him practice? He must know how to communicate with his sibling after all, and Danny could already tell he and Tim were going to get along.
He was even more glad that Steph had gone when Dick arrived because as the man came barrelling in like a hurricane Danny didn’t want to think of how much chaos and noise they would be together! For all his practice in social graces they really should have prepared him for this chaos, crowds, and friendly contact. But the compound had been short sighted and ill prepared in such regards.
Dick was the worst, Danny was almost jealous of Damian who could snarl and squirm and draw a knife on the man when Dick tried to hug him. Danny put on a smile and forced a laugh and pretended that his instinctual reaction to being held like this didn’t make him want to bite and rend. He knew that Dick meant well, or at least he thought so, the man was honestly famously good natured and cared for his family. Danny wanted to be on his good side, and couldn’t bring himself to actually say he didn’t want to be touched, or at least wasn’t used to it. The sudden, quick, and broad movements Dick favoured with his dramatics made Danny want to flinch though he had better self control then that!
He dodged hugs as gracefully as he could for the rest of the night and managed to sit him and Damian between Bruce and Tim for dinner, with Danny sitting next to Tim of course. The food was good, and everyone in the family was very welcoming, but by the end of it Danny was exhausted.
He was good at this sort of thing, trained to charm, and redirect apparently effortlessly, but the thing was it wasn’t effortless, and these sorts of situations were harder to simulate then battle. Danny had done a good job, he could tell that he had them charmed, and had them warming up to Damian too actually, but he also knew that he was drooping. He should hide his fatigue, but he was still human, he yawned.
“You’ve had a long day young masters,” Alfred said, instantly picking up on the mood, he was an impressive man and they both knew it. “Now that you’ve eaten why don’t you go settle in your rooms and get some rest? I took the liberty of going to buy you some pajamas and basics that should fit the two of you. I’m sure Master Bruce will be happy to take you both out to buy clothes more suited to your taste tomorrow,” he added.
“I think that’s a good idea, don’t you Damian,” Danny asked, glancing over at his brother.
“I’m not tired,” Damian harrumphed, of course he wouldn’t admit defeat. “But I would like to see where we will be staying,” He added. No doubt he’d thoroughly check security and for any potential surveillance before he slept. Danny wasn’t going to bother.
“Very good young Masters,” Alfred said with a nod, pausing to look back at Dick. “Will you be staying the night as well?” He asked the older man, who gave a rueful smile and shook his head.
“I’m needed in Bludhaven, I was able to come for the day on such short notice but I couldn’t get more time off. I’ll schedule a proper vacation as soon as possible so I can come back and visit!” He said giving Danyal and Damian an encouraging smile, and Danny did a good job of looking disappointed that Dick was leaving even though he was glad to have some time to get his feet under him before more of the family would be under the same roof once more. Maybe he hadn’t been as subtle as he thought about dodging Dick’s affection though, because he didn’t try to hug either of the boys goodbye.
He bid their siblings farewell and followed Alfred up to his bedroom, seeing Damian into his first and then going into his own. He was quick to brush his teeth and change into the comfortable, soft pajamas they’d been bought which did fit perfectly. Unfortunately when he flopped down into bed, regardless of how exhausted he was, he couldn’t sleep. He kept replaying the events of the day, how he did, how he could have done better, what he had learned about the family and what it meant.
After maybe an hour once things had gone quiet on the other side of the wall and he thought Damian was asleep Danny sighed and got up. He opened his window and climbed out, he braced his feet on the sill and shoved off, jumping unnaturally high for a human to grab on the edge of the roof and drag himself up onto it. He scrambled up gracefully and silently, finding a comfortable place to lay, looking up at the sky. He stayed there, zoning out for a while before he heard a soft thump on the roof near him.
“How did you get up here?” Bruce asked, dressed as Batman this time, Danny glanced over and gave him a small smile.
“You can’t really see the stars here,” he said, looking back up at the sky. “I won’t miss much about the compound, but I’ll miss the stars.”
“Not settling in particularly well?” Batman asked, sitting down on the ridge of the roof, a respectable distance between them.
“Oh I’ll be alright,” Danny said with a shrug. “They always raised me to be your heir after all, Damian will have more trouble than me. Want some advice?”
“Hm,” Batman said, an affirmative sound.
“Take him to a zoo, buy him art supplies. He’ll deny he cares about such things, but I know him better then anyone and he does. Once he realizes he really can be himself out here, that’ll help start undoing the brainwashing.”
“How are you so insightful about the situation? You can’t have avoided the brain washing.” Batman asked, and Danny shrugged. “What about you?”
“What about me?” Danny asked, glancing over just for a moment.
“How do I bond with you?” Bruce asked, and Danny laughed.
“You don’t have to. I don’t need to be won over or convinced. Our grandfather is a violent fool who only cares for himself, teaching me to recognize manipulation showed me what he really was years ago. If you turned me away entirely I still wouldn’t go back to the league.” He said with a wry smile.
“Hm,” Batman sounded unimpressed. “You’re still my son. I’d like to bond with you?”
Danny sighed, not sure why Batman was being stubborn when his energy was best spent elsewhere. He sat up and looked over at Batman, tilting his head slightly. “I don’t need you,” He said somewhat bluntly. “Damian does, give him your focus. If you truly want you can buy me an instrument, and books on astronomy.”
Batman nodded thoughtfully and Danny lay back down, there was a few moments of quiet between them before B spoke up again. “How did you get up here?” He asked again and Danny sighed.
“I guess you have to know eventually,” He murmured. “Part of the reason we’re both here is because Grandfather couldn’t decide who he wanted to be his heir, it was always supposed to be Damian but something happened and suddenly I was a much more attractive choice.”
“What happened?” B prompted after a moment.
“You know about the Pits? Most people dunked in it come back less, in the mind usually, sometimes less human, feral and monstrous. But rarely, once in the blue moon, someone comes back more.” Danny glanced over at Batman, and when he blinked he let his eyes flash green, glowing with the vile waters the kept Ra’s limping along. He could have explained more about the ways that he was different now, but he didn’t want to let on more then he had to at this point. He wasn’t naive enough to trust Bruce just because they shared blood, so he simply said; “I came back More, and I mean, I’m still a trained assassin, I probably could still have gotten up here even if I hadn’t.”
“But seemingly being chosen by Lazarus made me seem like a better option to grandfather, and your… complicated feelings towards empowered people is well known. So they didn’t know if you’d like me anymore.” His eyes faded back to blue and he looked up at the sky again, he couldn’t read Bruce’s expression under the cowl anyway. “It took a lot of subtle work to convince them to send us both so you could ‘decide which of us you wanted’.”
“Do you expect me to choose one of you?” Bruce asked, unreadable as ever.
“No, not really, you clearly like having many children. Damian still thinks now that you have a biological heir you’ll turn your adopted children away, but that’s grandfather talking and he’s a fool. If you do choose one then choose Damian, I’ll be fine on my own but he needs the help navigating this world. He’s strong, he’s clever, he’s more observant than me, he’ll make a good detective. He’ll be more loyal than me once you win him over too. He’ll be harder to break of the bad habits, I’ve never been as good at killing as him, but once he learns the way you do things I think he’ll be a good Robin.” Danny said, pulling up his knees and wrapping his arms around them, it was a bit chilly on the roof.
Batman hummed and nodded, which was good, if he had continued to push Danny would have had to bring up Jason. He knew that Jason was alive of course, but Bruce didn’t and Danyal would say he was more likely to end up like Jason if he had to but that was a last resort.
“Well I want you to know that both of you are very welcome here. And neither of you have to be Robin, or anything that you don’t want to be. I’ll support you in whatever you want to do, and you being a meta doesn’t change that at all. Both of you have a home here,” Bruce assured.
Danny nodded and gave Bruce a smile before standing up and smiling. “That’s good to hear,” He said, while not believing it at all. Bruce couldn’t and shouldn’t offer such unconditional support after just meeting them. “I should get back inside, it’s getting cold, and I am tired,” He said, wandering over the edge of the roof and stepping off, twisting around to grab the edge and swung off and back through the window before closing the window and brushing himself off so he wouldn’t get to much dirt in his sheets before crawling into bed.
He wasn’t fully asleep before the door to his room opened just enough for Damian to slip inside, he wasn’t surprised, Damian and he weren’t as independent from each other as they acted like they were. “You should have locked your door and blocked it somehow. We cannot trust the mongrels Father has taken in,” he hissed at Danny.
“Damian, shut up and get over here,” Danny mumbled sleepily, not bothering to open his eyes as he lifted the blankets on the other side of the bed. He heard a scoff and waited as Damian did whatever he needed to to feel like the room was secure and then came over to slide into bed next to Danny. Danny held out his arm, they didn’t exactly cuddle even when like this, but Damian liked to hold Danny’s wrist and feel his pulse. He had done it when they were younger but he had stopped for a while, it had only started up again after he had watched Danny die, it was understandable.
Damian wrapped one hand around Danny’s wrist, seeking out his pulse and tucked the other arm under his pillow, no doubt stashing a knife there. “None of them are going to hurt us Dami. They’re used to having multiple siblings, they probably compete, but other then one notable exception we’ve never heard of any of them trying to kill each other have we?”
“You don’t know that, Father’s has never had a biological child before, they must recognize we’re more of a threat then the others,” Damian argued in hushed tones.
“They won’t, we haven’t even proven ourselves yet. We could be incompetent.”
“We’re not!” Damian objected, his voice raising just a little and Danny hushed him softly.
“No, we’re not, but they don’t know that. I would suggest we keep out heads down for at least a month, we learned what we could about them from a distance but we should observe them. We’ve never been out of the compound except on missions, we have a lot to learn and whoever does end up his heir will have to be able to pretend to be normal. I intend to take Tim up on the lessons on popular media, perhaps it isn’t practical, but what about when we inevitably have to interact with people our own age at parties? What about interviews?
“We don’t want to reflect badly on father and if we don’t know Anything about such thing, or have any hobbies, or anything of the sort people will assume he treats us poorly.” Danny murmured and Damian harumphed, even without opening his eyes Danny could tell Damian was gritting his teeth.
“Why should we care what the uncultured masses think?” He hissed furiously and Danny cracked a small smile.
“Because father does. As the Bat his reputation is half of his weapon, and his identity as Bruce Wayne is carefully crafted to both divert suspicion from him being Batman and to make people like him. Father understands well how ones image is a tool, and being a good father is part of his image as Bruce Wayne, we will have to play into it if we want to succeed.” Danyal explained as gently as he could, he didn’t believe all of what he was saying really, or at least the way that he was framing it. He was framing it in the way he thought was best to make Damian start giving the outside world a chance, and hoping that when he did give it a chance he would find he liked it.
It was quiet for a long time which was good, it meant that Damian was properly considering what Danny had to say. He was nearly asleep before Damian spoke again, rousing Danny from his half doze. “Alright, knowing these ‘siblings’ patterns would help, and I can concede the point on the importance of reputation,” He said stiffly.
Danyal had to suppress a smile at his brother’s tone. “Good. And try to remember that unlike Mother and Grandfather batman has a rule against killing. Anything you do you must make sure it is never tracked back to us, especially because he’s not going to suddenly stop caring about them because we share his blood. If he finds out we hurt one of them it would absolutely ruin our chances, or be a huge set back at the very least,” He added, again trying to gently steer his brother in the direction he wanted. He was being manipulative, but it was the way he knew that worked.
“Father should know better then to develop such misplaced attachments,” Damian grumbled but then after a moment of silence he sighed and nodded. “All of our missions have had to be done in secret anyway, with time and planning we’ll manage.”
Well, it had bought them time and that had been Danyal’s goal so he nodded as well. “Good, now sleep Ahki, we’ve both had a long day and I’m tired.”
Damian let out a soft hum and that was all, he kept hold of Danny’s wrist even as he fell asleep, as he always did. Danny liked it too, the physical reminder that Damian was there, that they were safely together. He didn’t think that either of them would have to sneak out before dawn to make sure they weren’t caught and punished for such childish behaviour, he truly felt like they could rest.

"I don't get what her problem is," Warren shrugged his broad shoulders at you as you tried to keep up with him on the sidewalk.
You'd caught the late bus home from the college library, and your best friend's older brother, and neighbour, had offered to walk you home. Warren happened to be leaving college the same time as you after an intense, sweaty hour and a half of soccer practice. When you'd bumped into him at the bus stop, Warren sparked conversation, having recognised you as the girl who is always at his house, but that he didn't quite know. You'd never taken the liberty in spending a lot of time with your best friend's family. Maybe it was because she was strict on the "don't date my brother" rule, and had kept you in hiding because of it.
"You must've done it in the past," it was your turn to shrug your shoulders, as you delve into the reason why you'd never formally met.
Warren let's out a loud laugh and claps his hands together for emphasis. You continue to walk silently beside him as he begins to explain himself.
"See, the girl she's talking about- I didn't even know they were friends. We bumped into each other at a party. She didn't even say anything and I know now that she knew exactly who I was!" Warren let's out a snort , "so if anything, that's my dear sister's fault for having friends that are horny for her brother."
You laugh along with him, trying not to make too much eye contact. It was weird enough that you were walking home with Warren; you didn't need to seem like you were just as bad as the girl that traumatised your best friend.
"Hey," Warren stops you as you arrive outside his house.
"My house is still a few doors down," you say with a small laugh, pointing your thumb in the direction of your house.
"Yeah I know, but I was wondering if you wanted to come inside? I got a friend with me, I think you'll like him. We're just gonna smoke up... if you're interested?" Warren's lips curl into a weary smile as he scratches the back of his head. You take a second to comprehend what he's asking, before you're thinking of how it might make your friend feel.
"Uh, I don't think your sister will like that," apart from the fact this was off limits, you were very intrigued to come inside and get to know your best friend's brother. He had already been so nice and it was easy to relax around him. He had a beguiling way of making people feel at ease.
"Pffft," Warren sways his hand dismissively, "she's not even here, she's staying the night at her boyfriend's place."
"Oh yeah," you mumble in agreement, realising now that any other excuse would make you look lame.
"Okay then," you nod to punctuate your sentence, lifting your gaze from your sneakers into Warren's dark, alluring eyes.
"Sick! We'll get in through the back," Warren guides you around to the corner of the house furtherest from the front yard. He stops short at a set of bulkhead doors, wrenching them open to reveal a flight of concrete stairs. You follow closely behind him as he ventures further and further down into the basement. You can't help but feel slightly nervous. You didn't want to seem inexperienced, or like you couldn't control yourself. A pungent, spunky aroma fills your nose once you're at the bottom of the stairs. A guy about your age sits on a tattered sofa in front of a TV, with a bong pressed tightly to his lips.
"This is Kai. Kai, say hello to Y/N," Kai leans back away from the bong, and blows out rings of smoke. You almost had to squint to see him through the thick, grey cloud he created.
"Hey," he offers a wave to you as he sets everything back down on the table. He had thick, chestnut hair that fell in his face. He was clothed in a white-t/flannel combo, and a pair of black jeans. He seemed like just the type of guy Warren would be friends with.
"Sit down Y/N," Warren takes a seat on the opposite side of the sofa to Kai, leaving only a spot in the middle. You clear your throat before you oblige and seat yourself between the two.
"So, what are you majoring in at college?" Kai asks you, a small smile playing at his lips as he awaits your response.
"Nothing too fancy," you smile back, "business and law."
"Fuck, that's cool," Kai lets out a dopey laugh with half-lidded eyes, "I'm doing religious studies."
Both Kai and Warren burst into a fit of laughter. You guess you could see the irony.
"That's cool too," your face flushes pink as Warren holds a lit joint in front of you. Your heart picks up pace just looking at it. You weren't an avid smoker, but you'd had your fair share of practice. It was still nerve wracking to smoke sitting between two guys you didn't really know.
"Want me to go first?" Kai leans forward and takes the joint from Warren's fingertips. You let him do it with a curt nod of your head.
You watched as Kai placed the roach between his lips . His chest expanded as he took a draw, and then he held it in.
"Stop trying to look cool Anderson," Warren snickered, leaning over and punching Kai in the arm. Kai reacted, exhaling the smoke sharply from his lungs and coughing as he tried to soothe his throat.
"Fuck... you... Lipka," Kai scowled at Warren between coughs, only making Warren laugh more.
"Now the lady's turn," Warren ignores Kai as he gets up to retrieve a soda from the bar fridge. You take a deep breath, and position the joint between your own fingers. This is so fucking stupid, you thought to yourself as you stared at it in your hand, why couldn't you just do it?
"You don't have to, you know," Warren shrugs, and goes to take the joint from you. You retract your hand away from his and shake your head.
"It's okay, I'll do it," you weren't sure if you were trying to convince him or yourself more.
"Okay princess, take your time," Kai jokes as he takes a seat next to you, propping his feet up on the coffee table. You offer him a fake laugh before finally finding the courage to bring the joint to your lips. You inhale, only a little, feeling your throat burn as your lungs fill with smoke. You hold it in for a moment before exhaling. You were surprised you didn't cough.
"Atta girl," Warren chuckles, taking the joint from your hand and bringing it to his own lips.
"Do you guys do this every night?" You asked Kai, as he mindlessly scrolled through the sit-com TV series category on Netflix.
He lets out a snort, "pretty much. Not every day does Warren bring a girl to hang out with us though."
You look over at Warren, who just rolls his eyes at his friend.
Your vision begins to go slightly blurry as you look around the room. Your fingernails dig into the skin of your thighs as your eyes settle on the small TV across from you. You were super high already and all you craved was a bag of crisps all of a sudden.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You look over at Warren, who's finished the joint and stubbed it out in the ashtray.
"It means, I only invite girls I think are pretty," he flirts, turning his entire body around to face you, "it just sucks that my sister kept us apart for so long. I wonder what she thinks would happen."
"Um.. this?," Kai rolls his eyes at his friend, "doesn't mean I'm off limits though."
Kai's way of flirting was much more obvious. He rests a hand behind your head on the sofa, and shuffles slightly closer to you. If it weren't for the pot, you'd be totally disgusted by their lame effort to trifle with you. Even though, you found them both undeniably attractive.
"I'm not even like that," your eyebrows knit together in confusion. Your best friend knew you didn't sleep around. It made you nervous and never appealed to you.
"It's not about you," Kai replies, taking another sip of his soda, "it's about Warren. He can't handle himself."
"Shut the fuck up Anderson, before I kick you out," Warren growls, covering his face with his hands in embarrassment.
"So you think I'm pretty?" You tease Warren, just as he reveals his face again. You hadn't realised that Kai had pretty much pressed the entire length of his thigh to yours in the last minute. His close proximity made your face hot.
"Yeah well, isn't it obvious?" Warren asks, with a small laugh, "you probably haven't seen me staring every-time you come over. Maybe it's because it's off limits."
"Like I said, Y/N," Kai smirks at you, "I'm not off limits."
"Did you guys trap me down here to fuck me?" You ask with a laugh, "because I'm not interested. Especially if it's going to upset my best friend."
"And if it didn't upset your best friend?" Kai probes, "smoking pot gets me ridiculously horny."
You let out a small laugh, shifting in your seat and rubbing your thigh back up against Kai's. He was right about one thing - pot definitely had the same effect on you, and it was beginning to skew your vision with rose-coloured glasses.
"Anderson, you're so fucking sick," Warren teases his friend, only for Kai to roll his eyes.
"How about you shut the fuck Lipka, and let me shoot my shot. It's not like you can do anything," Kai snickers back.
"I'm sitting right here guys. Seriously!" You argue back, standing from the couch and turning towards the two guys sat in front of you. You didn't appreciate being talked about like a piece of meat, or the bickering over you when you were just trying to relax and have a good time. Of course, it flattered you to a certain extent, but it wasn't the vibe you were searching for.
"Hey! Sit down, look, we're sorry. Right Kai? That's not cool of us," Warren responds softly without eye contact, whilst rolling another joint.
"Yeah, we're sorry," Kai backs up his friend, "come sit, we'll watch a movie."
You sit back down between them hesitantly, watching Kai flick through horror movies on Netflix. Warren offers you some of his joint, and without thinking, you take another hit. Kai gets up to switch off the lights, and joins you both back on the couch. The movie plays at a press of a button, and you settle yourself deeper in the backrest of the couch to get comfortable. Your head spins with the pot you'd just smoked, and it takes everything in you not to close your eyes and fall asleep. That is, until the first jump-scare of the movie frightens you half to death.
In the process, you hadn't realised you'd tucked yourself securely under Warren's arm. He doesn't object, instead wrapping his strong arm around you and holding you into his side. You can't help the accelerated beating of your heart as you basked in his scent. He smelt so good. Despite how bad it was that you were cuddled up with your best friend's older brother.
You turn over to glance at Kai, who's got a blanket draped across his lap. He's watching the movie with his eyes half-closed and the sight alone makes you giggle. You nudge Warren so he turns to look down at you and mouths 'what?'. You point a finger in Kai's direction, and then you both laugh at him quietly.
As the movie progresses, you find yourself more cuddled into Warren and even closer to Kai. You hadn't realised that you'd placed a hand on Kai's thigh, and that it was slowly advancing up his leg. God, what the fuck were you thinking? Trying to cuddle up to two guys at once? One of which you knew was off limits? It must be the weed.
Without turning his head, Kai places his hand strategically over yours. A dull pulse ignites between your legs and your mind races at 200 miles an hour, trying to think of how you were going to make this work.
"I can't choose," you randomly blurt, gaining the attention of both guys. Kai even paused the movie because he didn't think he'd heard you right.
"Did you just say 'I can't choose?'" Warren's brows knit together in confusion as Kai stares blankly at you. You immediately regretted saying anything at all, but now, you had to explain your way out of looking like an even bigger idiot.
"I mean, both of you want to fuck me, and I think I've changed my mind. Like Kai, I'm incredibly horny."
Warren almost chokes on his own tongue. Kai's hand on yours squeezes tightly, and the two guys look at each-other in disbelief. It was like they were telepathically agreeing something between them.
"Who said you have to choose?" Kai finally replies, taking your hand and moving it up his clothed thigh. You turn to Warren, who offers you a lopsided smile.
"I mean, he's right?" Warren says it like it's a question, and for a moment, you consider it. You'd never been in a situation quite like this one, where you were seated between two guys you found insanely attractive, who both wanted to dote on you.
"How would that even work?" You ask, trying to stifle your laughter. It just seemed so ridiculous that this was happening, regardless of how badly you wanted it right now.
"And have you done this before or something?" You look between Warren and Kai curiously. Kai shrugs his shoulders.
"I haven't with Lipka, but sure, I know how it works," Kai was confident enough to unzip his jeans from under your palm, leaving the fabric of his boxers being the only thing stopping you from touching him completely.
"Look- I'm horny as fuck, and high, and I think it'd be an interesting experience," Warren moves his arm from around you, and places it instead, on your thigh. His touch almost makes you sigh from how good it felt.
"Okay," you say simply, taking the liberty of making the first move and connecting your lips to Warren's. Never in a million years, did the three of you think you'd be in this situation. You just knew your best friend would be furious. But for some reason, it only fuelled your desire for them, alike to foraging for a forbidden fruit.
You feel Kai move from next to you, and soon there's two warm palms separating your legs. Distracted by Warren's tongue exploring your mouth, you pay little attention to Kai as he runs his hands up your thighs. Kai's fingertips skim the lower band of your panties, soon to dig into the waistband and take them off your legs. Everything was moving so fast. The kiss didn't break until you felt Kai's tongue on your pussy.
You moaned into Warren's mouth before he moved away to litter kisses down your jaw. It allowed you to let out as many sounds as you wanted to. Kai used his thumbs to seperate your folds. His nose nudged blissfully against your clit as he tasted you. One of your hands made its way into his hair, tugging softly on his brown curls as he expertly worked at your pussy. Warren worked fast to lift up your shirt, reaching around to your back to unclasp your bra and let it fall.
"Fuck, you taste good," Kai mumbled against your dripping cunt as Warren took one of your taut nipples in his mouth. He sucked on it, rolling his tongue around the stiff bud, kneading the other in his hand.
Your other hand wondered over to the front of Warren's jeans, unfastening the best you could with one hand. Taking the hint, Warren helps you tear down his pants and boxers, revealing his cock to your palm. You wrap your fingers around it, squeezing gently as you began to stroke him. Strategically smearing the pre cum that leaked from his tip down his length, your hand moved in sync with Kai's tongue as it immersed itself between your pulsing walls.
As if the heat had been turned up in the room, the three of you began to slightly perspire. Warren growls against your chest, feeling a tightness already in his groin. You take a moment to glance down at Kai, seeing him already staring up at you. He leaves sloppy kisses against your sensitive bundle of nerves, his gaze intense as he sucks you into his mouth. That being, your final straw.
"I'm gonna cum, oh my god!" You squeal as your orgasm washes over you in intense, pleasurable waves. Your thighs shake around Kai's head, and he doesn't stop until you're begging him to.
"I'm not breaking too many rules if it's just head?" Warren asks shyly, as Kai gets up from the floor. You ignore his question only for a moment, as Kai forces your lips onto his. His tongue swirls around your mouth, allowing the taste of you to linger on your own taste buds.
"Get up here, I need to bury my cock inside you, like right now," Kai is a little rougher than Warren, and pulls you up onto the couch on all fours. Now face to face with Warren's cock, it works perfectly.
"Does this answer your question?" You ask slyly, cupping his heavy balls in your hand as the tip pushes past your lips. Warren’s fingers tangle in your hair, pushing your mouth further down his thick cock. He hits the back of your throat, and surprisingly, it doesn’t make you gag.
You can feel Kai behind you, positioning his tip between your dripping folds. He spits, directly where his tip meets your pussy. A moment passed before he’s stretching you out from behind. Your eyes roll as he fits his cock inside you, spreading open your ass cheeks with his hands. His fingers dug into your skin, kneading at the plush of your ass as he finally, bottoms out inside you.
“Oh fuck,” Kai moans, trying to keep his eyes open. He’s not all too interested or aroused in seeing his friend receive head, but it definitely was the hottest thing him, or Warren, had ever done. Something to definitely bring up later with their other friends.
Your eyes swell with tears as Warren continues to hit the back of your throat. Kai begins thrusting his hips, digging at your sensitive walls right at the spot that swells to his tip. The tears almost fall from the pleasure alone.
“Holy shit, your mouth feels amazing,” Warren groans, resting his head back on the sofa as you pick up pace around him. You use your hand and mouth in sync, your tongue running along the side of his shaft with every repetition of your movements.
“This weed is some good shit, I don’t think I’m gonna last much longer,” Kai is whining behind you, clawing in desperation at your ass cheeks, reaching your cervix with every ravaging thrust.
You never imagined how good it would feel to be used like this. Having two of your holes filled to the brim. You definitely weren’t going to see sex with one other person as as satisfying ever again.
“Oh fuck, Y/N, I’m cumming,” Warren gasps breaths of air as you remove your mouth from him, using your hand to finish him off with your tongue placed strategically at his tip. Kai isn’t far behind, and it takes everything in you to remain focused on Warren’s release. Warren’s hips lift off the couch as he cums, painting your tongue white with his load. You swallow it with ease, giggling as Warren rests back with his eyes closed.
“Fuckfuckfuck, I’m gonna cum too,” Kai calls out behind you, “fuck your pussy feels so good.”
You hold onto Warren as Kai releases, taking himself out of you to cum all over your ass. He takes a deep breath as he pulls up his pants.
“Shit, let me get you something to clean that up,” Warren pushes up off the couch, leaving you on all fours, to pick out a fresh hand towel.
“Kai, clean it up, dickhead,” Warren calls out to his friend, passing him the towel. Kai cleans you off, leaving you able to dress yourself again. The basement reeks of sex, and your heart drops at the thought of your best friend walking in just this second.
“I know what you’re thinking,” Warren begins rolling yet another joint, “she’s not gonna be back, trust me.”
“That was probably the best sex of my life,” Kai comes back down the basement stairs, holding a bowl of popcorn and a bag of salt and vinegar crisps. You didn’t even notice he disappeared.
You only laugh and shake your head in response, checking your phone awkwardly for the time.
“I’ve been here two hours? Shit, my parents wanted me home for dinner tonight,” you get up suddenly, making sure your clothes don’t look too crumpled, and presentable enough to go home in.
“I’ll walk you,” both Kai and Warren say at the same time, and the room goes silent. Were they making you choose?
“How about, you both walk me home. Sound good?” You smirk at the two guys who were obviously at your mercy after the sex you’d just shared. Part of you resonated with that, like you didn’t want to leave them.
“Heyy Y/N,” Kai asked curiously, as Warren held your hand loosely along the side walk. The sun had long set now, and the street lamps were on. Stopping outside your house, you turn to Kai.
“Hm?” You ask, as Warren remains by your side.
“You wanna come back tomorrow?” Warren shoves Kai, sending him tumbling back. The two of them were like man-children. You couldn’t help but laugh.
“Maybe.. if you’re lucky,” you lean over and plant a soft kiss to Kai’s lips, before pressing a kiss to Warren’s.
The two of them watch you from the end of your driveway as you approach the front door, and with a final wave, they’re both out of sight. Now to eat dinner with your parents after having a threesome.

just a short little Thanksgiving blurb for all my American girlies 🥰🦃
Tumblr media
ours
You force yourself back to the present, where your twelve year-old cousin is updating you on the latest middle school drama.
“…and that’s why boys named Max are a red flag, but dogs named Max are not,” she concludes.
You giggle and nod appropriately, taking a sip from your drink. The house is filled with the entire family this Thanksgiving and while it’s pleasantly crowded, it still feels like a part of you is missing.
Your phone is securely in your bag, a tactic to try to keep yourself from replaying highlights from the England match from the previous weekend. Every other WAG got to go support their man, but you were stuck in America with pre-Thanksgiving work. Thanksgiving has only been going on for twenty minutes, and you’re ready to call it and go home.
International dating is hard.
Your mom can tell, so she’s been giving you tasks to do all day. She must’ve told your grandma or maybe she’s just incredibly observant, because she’s picked up the mantle as well and neither of them give you enough time to be alone with your thoughts.
It’s nice of them, except now the family’s here and everyone’s asking about your boyfriend. They don’t care that he’s a footballer (in the best way) and they’re all excited for you, but you wish he were here.
Maybe you can sneak upstairs and call him.
You do some quick math and realize he should be asleep so you sigh and ask your cousin if she wants to come with you to steal macaroni and cheese.
She smiles and says, “Yes, duh.”
“It’s going to be tricky,” you warn. “My mom and your mom are going to be on the lookout.”
“I bet Grandpa will sneak us some,” she reminds you. Oh yes, Grandpa would do anything for his granddaughters.
You grab her hand and weave through aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, cousins and a few other relatives. You’re pretty sure this is the biggest Thanksgiving you’ve ever had.
You and your cousin successfully get your hands on two bowls of mac and cheese, and slip away to an unoccupied corner to eat it.
You’re smiling and not thinking about Jamie at all. This is your favorite cousin, the one who’s eleven years younger than you, but you two have been doing dumb shit together since she could talk.
You’re almost done when someone slides into your space, pressing their arm against yours. Your cousin’s eyes widen as she looks at you and you turn, expecting to see an aunt or god-forbid one of your snitch brothers.
Instead, you’re met with blue eyes and a familiar smile.
You choke on your last bite of food as you launch yourself into Jamie’s arms.
“What are you doing here?” you ask, refusing to let go of him. “You have a match this weekend.”
He shrugs, still smiling. “Ah, you know, gotta be culturally sensitive with my American girlfriend, babe. Milestones and all that.”
You raise an eyebrow. There’s no way Roy let him go with that excuse.
“Or I might have injured meself at the match last week and am out of training for two weeks,” Jamie says.
“You’re hurt?” you exclaim. “Why didn’t you call me? Should you have been on a plane? What happened?”
You’ve inadvertently tightened your grip around Jamie’s neck, so he reaches up to remove your hands, still keeping them in his. He lifts them up to his lips to kiss your knuckles.
“I’m fine. Just my ankle. But I figured, who not come surprise ya?”
“Does my mom know you’re here?”
Jamie’s grin turns cocky. “Called your mum and dad three days ago. I’m staying in their guest room, ain’t I? Got in this morning before you lot showed up.”
Your cousin has been watching this scene a little open-mouthed the whole time. “I wish my boyfriend would do that for me,” she murmurs.
Your head snaps over to her. “Your what,” you say to her and she holds her hands up defensively.
“Oh look it’s your English boyfriend who flew all the way to America for Thanksgiving, why don’t you kiss him some more?” she deflects, and Jamie shoots her a wink and tilts your face up for a kiss so your cousin can get away.
“I can’t believe you’re here,” you tell him. “Oh my gosh, we’re going to have the BEST time. Get ready to have your mind blown, little British boy.”
“Anything for you, Miss America,” he teases. “Just don’t make me try those mushroom things I saw, looked fucking awful, that.”
You pull a shocked face. “Oh but it’s tradition. Everyone has to suffer through my uncle Darren’s gross stuffed mushrooms at least once. And since you’re new here…” you trail off.
Jamie grimaces while you giggle and run a hand through his hair. God, you can’t believe he’s here and while you aren’t thrilled he’s injured, maybe it’s not such a bad thing.
“C’mon,” you say, tugging him to the kitchen. “I want to go yell at mom and dad for not telling me you were coming.”

How the Web Was Woven: The End
A/N: This. This series is my Mona Lisa, my Sistine Chapel, and these final brush strokes literally tore me apart. I poured my soul into this one. If you hate it, please don't tell me. But if you love it, please do because this is my everything. I hope it's enough.
Need to catch up? Masterlist
Warnings: mentions of death, illness, reference to sex, I think that's all.

Four and a half years. That's all you have left. It's not enough.
******
The years slip away with Elvis going back and forth every couple of months like he did before. The kids get older, you get older, and Elvis gets older too. Every time he leaves, it tears out another piece of your heart knowing it's getting closer and closer to the last time you'll see him. He's in good spirits every time he visits, but it's hard not to notice his body declining. Making a portal to send him home gets harder and harder, but he still maintains that he's fine. You both know he's not, but what is there to do about it?
And then, before you know it, it's July of 2027, or 1977 for him. John Jessie is 10, Erin Love is 7. Your babies have been replaced with kids and your youthful, vigorous husband is replaced with a man you know is past his prime. He doesn't know it, but you do. He has a little over a month left and you find yourself falling apart at the smallest things. He kisses the back of your hand while you all watch a movie together and you have to get up and go to the bathroom to weep. He sings in the shower and you lay in your bed and rock your body while the tears stream down your cheeks. You drive to dinner with him in the backseat of your minivan between the kids watching a movie on the little screen that comes down from the ceiling of the car and when he laughs you almost have to pull over to keep from crashing as you drive with teary eyes.
He stays with you for a full three weeks because you continue making excuses to keep him around. You need him to help with this or the kids have something going on that he should be there for. In reality, you can't bear the thought of saying goodbye. Because this time you know it's really going to be goodbye. And you can't tell him, so he'll treat it like any other parting. He'll kiss your cheek and say "until next time, honey" like he always does.
But you know there won't be a next time. And the knowing is eating you alive.
In early August, a summer thunderstorm rips through in the middle of the night. Elvis is still there, wrapped around you breathing softly as you lay awake trying not to cry. There's a sharp flash of lightning and not ten seconds later, a crash of thunder tears into the quiet night. You listen for opening doors and sure enough, in less than a minute Erin is in your room and on your bed.
"Daddy!" Elvis sits up and she snuggles into his warmth. He strokes her hair and shushes her gently.
"You're okay, baby girl. Daddy's got you."
John Jessie walks up to the bed cautiously.
"She okay? I just came to check on Erin-" There's another flash of lightning and John Jessie jumps. When the thunder crashes, he crawls into the bed next to you. He might be a big 10-year-old, but you're still his mama. The rain is coming down in torrential waves and you hear hail start to plunk against the windows.
You and Elvis sit with both kids in between you and the power flickers. Erin gasps and John Jessie pats her hand.
"It's okay, sister." Elvis kisses her hair.
"Your brother is right, sweetheart. Nothin' to worry about."
Just then, the power goes out fully.
"Daddy!"
"We're alright. Your mama will go get a candle to light." He looks to you in the dark and you grab your phone and turn the flashlight on. Then, you slide out of bed to find a candle and a lighter. It takes you a minute of fumbling around the house to get what you're looking for. When you make your way back down the hall to the bedroom you pause just outside the door and your heart stops.
He's singing.
In the twilight glow I see
Blue eyes crying in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again
Love is like a dying ember
And only memories remain
And through the ages I'll remember
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Some day when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll, hand in hand again
In a land that knows no parting
Blue eyes crying in the rain
When he reaches the end of the song, you're on your knees on the floor in the hallway, tears soaking the front of your night shirt, biting your knuckle and trying not to hyperventilate.
How will you survive without him?
You won't. You can't.
The power flicks back on and you hear both kids cheer. You quickly try to pull yourself back together and as you do, you make a decision.
You're not sure how you'll pull it off, or if you even can, but your mind is made up to try.
You walk back into the room and get back in bed with a new determination.
"You okay, honey?" Elvis looks at you curiously. You smile brightly.
"Mhmm! Now, let's get these kids back in their own beds." He shakes his head.
"You're somethin' else, honey. Twenty years together and you still keep me on my toes." He leans over and kisses you softly and then you each take a kid back to their bedroom. When you come back together, you settle into his arms and relax. Tomorrow, you'll think of a plan.
******
The next day comes and goes and so does Elvis. While the kids are at school, you make love and open a portal. You give him the next rendezvous point for the fall, knowing you'll see him before then. As expected, he kisses you and says he'll see you next time. Before he leaves, though, you grab him one last time and pull him into a deep kiss. Memories of every one of your kisses over the last 20 years comes crashing into you and you shake as you hold him, not wanting to let go. You have your plan, but if it doesn't work out, you want your last kiss to be a real one.
"Honey, do you want me to stay?" The portal shimmers behind him.
"Yes. But I know you can't."
"I don't have to go right now. We can make another one later." You look into his eyes, the same eyes that met yours in fear when he first appeared in 2007.
"No. If you don't go now, I'll never let you go."
"Honey, are you sure you're okay?" He doesn't want to leave you if there's something wrong.
"I'll be fine. Now go. I'll see you soon." He smiles softly and kisses your forehead.
"I love you with all of me, y/n. Always have and I always will."
"I love you too, Elvis." He squeezes you tightly one last time and then turns and walks through the portal. When it disappears, you sink to the floor. You have no more tears, so instead you pray. You pray for him, for his body and his soul. You pray for yourself and your kids. And you pray that your plan will work.
******
On August 15th, 1977, at 10:30 pm Elvis arrives at his dentist's office. It's a rather routine appointment, so he doesn't think too much of it. But when he gets back to the room and sees the shimmering portal, he's stunned.
This is not your agreed-upon meetup time or place. Somehow, he's alone in the room, but he knows he doesn't have much time before the dentist comes back. He decides there must be some urgent reason for you to show up here and a pang of worry hits him. Hopefully the kids are alright. The dentist knocks to let him know he's coming back in the room and Elvis takes a breath and walks through the portal, hoping he can get back without the dentist noticing.
"Honey, what the-" and then he sees you. Your eyes are wild and you're chewing on your thumbnail. It looks like you haven't slept in days, because you haven't, and your eyes are puffy and red with the remnants of your last crying spell. He immediately walks to you and wraps his arms around you. "What happened? Is it the kids?"
You lean against him and take in his warmth. You're afraid to move or speak in case something you do upsets him and causes what you're trying to avoid.
"No, it's not the kids. They're fine."
"Then what is-"
"It's you."
"Me? What about me?" You back up and look into his face. How will you tell him?
"You- if..." You trail off, not sure what to say.
"Honey, you're scaring me. You better tell me what's going on right now."
"I have to tell you something. And I need you to trust me. And then you have to make a choice." Your heart is pounding in your chest. You've thought of this moment so many times in the past two weeks and now it's here. The decision to give him a choice was not an easy one, but you know him. Telling him what to do is never the right option.
"Y/n. What the hell are you talking about?"
You take a deep breath, close your eyes and pray silently. Then, you open your eyes and look at him standing in front of you.
"You're going to die tomorrow." It hangs in the air between you like some tangible thing.
"What?" He almost whispers it.
"If you go back, you will die tomorrow. You have to."
"What do you mean, I have to?"
"Because you already did. Look." You hold your phone up to him and show him on Google. Elvis Presley, January 8th, 1935-August 16th, 1977.
He backs away from you and covers his mouth in shock. He shakes his head.
"No. I don't believe it."
"Elvis, why would I lie to you about this?" He looks up at you with tears in his eyes. He searches yours for evidence that this is some kind of cruel trick, but all he finds is sincerity and desperation.
"You said I have to make a choice."
"Yes. If you stay, I can take you to a hospital and we can try to save your life. But you can never go back. You'll be stuck in this timeline forever."
"I'll never see Lisa Marie again."
"No."
"I'll never perform again."
"Not as Elvis Presley, no."
"Elvis Presley is dead."
"Yes. But you could live as John Burrows." He sits down in a chair against the wall.
"That's a hell of a choice, honey."
"I know. I'm sorry."
"Maybe if I'm supposed to die..." You nod and turn away from him. Your shoulders quake as your body is wracked with sobs. You don't want to impact his decision, but you can't control the anguish you feel at the thought of losing him. "But maybe you were meant to save me."
You turn back to him, your face shiny with tears. He walks to you and wraps you in his arms like he has so many times before. He presses his forehead to yours and closes his eyes.
"Y/n, you've saved me a hundred times over. You've made my life worth living. Save me one last time."
"You're sure that's what you want?"
"Yes."

The dentist rushes out to Ginger in the waiting room.
"Where did he go?"
"Who?"
"Elvis! He's gone!" She stands up and they frantically search the office, the parking lot, and the grounds of the building, but Elvis is nowhere to be found. Ginger calls Vernon in a panic.
"He's gone?"
"Vernon, it's like he disappeared! I don't know what could've happened." Vernon is quiet for a bit.
"Come home. I'll explain everything."
Back at Graceland, Vernon holds a discreet meeting with all of the most important people in Elvis's life. The conversation that occurs has been kept secret forever.
"Elvis is dead. Or, at least, that's what we're going to tell everyone. In 1960, Elvis sat me down once and warned me that this might happen. He said that there was a distinct possibility that he might disappear and never come back. If he did, he made me promise to proceed as if he was dead."
"What if he comes back?" Ginger is hysterical.
"He won't. He assured me he would be gone for good. You know how he is. We have to do what he asked."
Vernon looks around the room carefully.
"Elvis Presley is dead." They all nod in agreement.
"May he rest in peace."

The hospital staff think you're crazy when you insist that your husband is going to have a heart attack. Still, they run some tests and detect a good number of things wrong with him. They admit him and are shocked when he does, in fact, have a heart attack. Luckily, because he was already in the hospital, they're able to catch it quickly and stop it from doing too much damage. Still, this begins a health journey that will last the rest of his life.
But that's the important part.
He lives.
The miracles of modern medicine keep him alive well into his 70s. He watches your kids grow up. He cheers louder than anyone at every graduation and cries like a baby when he walks Erin Love down the aisle at her wedding. He even plays with his grandchildren and watches them grow up. He never stops missing Lisa Marie, but he's so grateful for the opportunity to be the dad he always wanted to be for John Jessie and Erin.
The two of you have your fights, like any other married couple, usually about you trying to feed him a heart-healthy diet. At one point he throws a whole baking sheet of salmon into the backyard to prove a point. You want to be mad, so you put your hands on your hips, but when he turns around to face you, you both erupt into laughter. You solve a lot of your problems by laughing together.
And once he's healthier, you spend a lot of time in bed together. Your lovemaking is not nearly as athletic as it used to be, but it's satisfying and you keep things interesting in your own ways.
But one thing has changed. You notice it the first time you have sex after his heart attack. You roll onto your back next to him sweating and breathing heavily and he wraps an arm around you, pulling you close.
"Shhh. Honey, listen."
"What?"
"It's gone." And then you notice. There's no buzzing sound, no shimmery air.
No portal.
He sings quietly.
At last I'm where you want me
Don't you know, that's where I want to be?
I've been round for the last time
Oh, girl, what can I do?
Oh the time the web was woven,
How I fell in love, fell in love with you...

The End

Nothing's Wrong with Dale - Part Thirty
It’s been a week, but you’re fairly certain your fiancé accidentally got himself replaced by an eldritch being from the Depths. Deciding  that he’s certainly not worse than your original fiancé, you endeavor to keep the engagement and his new non-human state to yourself.
However, this might prove harder than you originally thought.

You blink at the woman for a few long seconds, trying to comprehend her words. “Excuse me? Did you just say Lord Dale has called off the wedding? Our wedding?”
“I…” The maid is at a loss for words in the face of your incredulity. She swallows. “Yes, my lady.”
There’s a rushing sound in your ears, like wind roaring. You stay perfectly still, your face blank as you try to think. That is not possible. It’s not. How could he do something like that? Why would he? You’d dealt with so many surprises, jumped over every obstacle, and handled every challenge. Why instead did you feel as though you had survived a trip at sea only to find your ship crashing into the pier while within sight of home? You feel numb.
Perhaps you are making some sort of expression because the woman grows paler. “I’m sure it is simply pre-wedding jitters, my lady,” she hurries to reassure you. “Lord Archibald will have him seeing sense before you can blink.”
“Best to continue getting you ready,” Ms Dearden says as she lays out your corded underskirts. You appreciate her practiced dismissal even if you fear there’s more at play here than she’s aware of. “Young men these days always get cold feet. He’ll be over it soon enough.”
“Yes, of course.” Your own voice seems distant to your ears, but your words are enough for Callalily’s maid to resume work on your hair. At some point she finishes and you’re helped into your underskirts. Your mind stays blank as you try to conceive of reasons for him to do such a thing beyond tiring of you and this whole facade. Distant imaginings of what your life would be like without the wedding crumble to fog.
You’ve been so committed and focused on today that the news feels nonsensical more than alarming. How could the wedding not be happening? Did you just speak with your sisters? Has every moment of the last few weeks been in service of it? Are you not now suddenly dressed in your lovely yellow wedding gown? The person in the hand mirror looks as though they are marrying today.
The door flings open and Steward Bilmont hurries in despite the reproach from the women in the room at both his presence and the dramatics of his entrance.
You only need to look at his face to understand that the situation with Dale has not improved since the first maid broke it to you. He opens his mouth to speak, but something about your countenance, or perhaps your lack of reaction, must inform him that you know something of the situation.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into him, my lady,” Bilmont says, wringing his hands. “He’s not been this unreasonable in weeks. Lord Archibald has refused to put a stop to anything, but Lord Dale refuses to see reason. He’s barred the door to his chambers after Lord Archibald wouldn’t accept his words.”
“I see.” With careful fingers you put down the small hand mirror and begin to stand, adjusting your skirts as you do so.
It’s Miss Adir who asks, her voice filled with trepidation, “My lady?”
“Excuse me,” you say, an undeniable calm spreading through your veins, as you cross the room towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Steward Bilmont asks as you brush by him.
You realize your decision as you reply, “To speak with my betrothed. Please continue preparations without me.”
The maid who brought the news is the one who speaks up, as your hand closes around the door knob. “My lady, I don’t think—”
“Continue without me,” you cut her off, eyes snapping, because finally some emotion has made itself known to you and it is anger. You’ve worked so hard and been through so much. Dale thinks he can just put an end to it all mere hours before you’re to be wed? No.
“My lady…” Bilmont tries, his hand settling gently on your arm. He’s almost wincing, the look in his eyes resigned. As though he thought everything had been going too well and this was the inevitable shoe that dropped.
You shake his hand off. “If Lord Dale wishes to call off our wedding,” some of that anger finally bleeds into your voice and you see the surprise in Bilmont’s eyes, “he shall tell me so to my face. Get out of my way.”
He obligingly steps back, hands hanging back at his sides. You don’t bother to observe the others' reactions, opening the door quickly, and letting it shut heavily behind you.
You walk briskly down the hall and towards the Northridge family bedrooms. No one else, servant or noble alike, crosses your path as you head that way. Not until you’re closer. You hear shouting and decide to peek around the corner, wanting to get the scope of the situation you’re walking into.
“—utter foolishness!” Grandfather is shouting at Dale’s closed door with two guards flanking him. He bangs his fist on the door for good measure. “Do you wish for me to find your Grandmother? I’ve kindly not informed her of your idiocy, but I shall have to if you persist!”
There’s no reply from the other side of the door, not even a sound. Grandfather rattles the door knob to no avail, but doesn’t try anything further with the solid wood door.
He groans in frustration and turns to the guards. “I want to know the instant he leaves this room and if he does not within the hour, I shall have to inform Lady Deidre as promised.”
“Yes, my lord,” the guards chorus looked properly cowed by the threat, even if it isn't aimed at them.
Grandfather turns dramatically enough you see more of the original Dale in him than you thought possible and storms off. The guards take up posts on either side of the door, not baring it, but still present enough that you stay where you are. You’ve no desire to speak to them or to shout at Dale with them nearby.
You frown, unsure why but something doesn’t sit right with you the longer you look down the silent corridor. It seems…empty, or perhaps still, in a manner that makes you feel as if you are not where you should be. Not that your presence is unwanted, but as if you are lost.
You study the scene more closely and find your eyes drifting towards the bright sunlight streaming through the windows and the faint light coming from under Dale’s bedroom door. After a second, you realize what is wrong with the light and shadow—both are completely still. Before, the maid had said both of them were shouting and you’ve never heard this Dale raise his voice except in a physical fight. If he were truly upset, or at least strongly emotional, there should be some evidence in the shadows, some unnatural movement.
You chance another glance down the corridor, but it looks utterly ordinary. As your gaze sweeps from further down where Grandfather disappears around a corner and then back closer to yourself they snag on the stairway down towards the studies and other meeting rooms. There’s no movement, but the shadows are deep and dark. There are no windows there, that stairway is more utilitarian than for show like the grand staircases in other places throughout the house, so that’s plenty of reason for the darkness, but…
You move as quietly and fluidly as you can towards that staircase, hoping not to attract the guards notice. You don’t want to talk to anyone except Dale. You don’t know what Grandfather would try to say to you given he is clearly trying to keep this news contained. He stopped attempting to prove anything with you since the attack, but you’re still not completely sure of what he thinks of you. Keeping your skirts just high enough off the floor and grateful your house slippers are soft and quiet, you make it to the stairs without the guards' notice.
Your footsteps are nearly silent as you hastily make your way down the flight of stairs. You’ve never given much thought to the amount of light that fills it, but surely it wasn’t this dark in previous mornings. Or is that simply your imagination? Is it just your hope that it means you can find Dale and talk some sense into him?
You peek out at the bottom, looking for anyone in this area of the house who might question one of the couple getting married wandering about alone. No one is present. An eerie silence permeates the corridor and like the staircase, it seems darker than it should be. You step out, eyes on the window that lets light in, but seems outnumbered by shadows.
Dale’s personal study is off a smaller side corridor from this hallway, in its own small tower. You think the upper floor might connect to his bedroom. Then there is the underground room, the real reason you believe the original Dale had requested his current quarters and this study.
There’s an oppressive aura that thickens the air as soon as you turn the corner and it builds the closer you get to his study’s door. You imagine that's partially responsible for the lack of others in this area, which in some ways you’re grateful for. You also manage to draw on its presence as fuel for your anger at such obvious overflow from his nature. The shadows under the door ripple, as if it were night and a lighted candle was guttering in the breeze, unremarkable except for the fact that it's closer to noon.
Cautiously, you reach out for the door knob. Grasping it firmly in your hand, you find that it's not locked as you had feared. The knob turns without effort and the door swings inside to reveal Dale’s study. The flickering shadows solidify as you step inside, eyes searching for Dale.
You find him quickly enough, a trunk half packed of books next to him. Somehow you don’t think they are being gathered for your wedding trip. He’s by the window, back to you, but you can see tension in every line of his body. All the breath desserts you at the sight of him. All the words you could say dry up in your mouth. The door shuts with an audible click behind you.
“WOULD—” Dale whirls, his frustrated voice cuts off the second his eyes land on you. Abruptly all the anger in his face leaves him. Instead he practically deflates, merely gaping at you. To your surprise, he spins away from you. “What are you doing here?” he asks, voice pitched higher than usual. “I thought we were not to see each other until—” He doesn’t finish his sentence, his shoulders slumping.
You take another few steps into the room and clear your throat. “Yes, well, I’m fairly certain that the betrotheds laying eyes on one the morning of the wedding is of no consequence if there isn’t to be a wedding, hm?” You’re grateful that you’ve rediscovered some of your anger and your frustration to draw on for the strength to weather this conversation.
“I…” Dale can’t seem to think of an adequate response even as he refuses to turn around.
Your heart constricts in your chest at this confirmation. “So it’s true?” You hadn’t realized how much you were hoping despite all the evidence to the contrary that once you found Dale he’d explain how it was all one big misunderstanding. “You’ve called off our wedding.”
He leans his head against the wall and says nothing.
“Dammit, Dale!” The words jump out of you, louder than you’ve ever spoken to Dale. “Look at me,” you say, your voice breaking. “If you’re going to do this, you’re going to look at me as you do so.”
Slowly, like a man condemned, he turns. Dale swallows, looking profoundly guilty. He murmurs your name, but you refuse to let his soft voice sway you and merely stare straight back at him. “Why? Why are you doing this?”
“My reasons are complex, but unchangeable.” His words are rote and his voice wooden. You imagine he said something like this to Grandfather. “I apologize.”
“I don’t understand,” you say as plainly as you can, tired of talking around topics and pretending to be sure when you aren’t. “Complex? How complex can they be that you won’t even enumerate them for me now. Please explain, justify, anything.” Dale just stands there and that anger surges through your blood. You take another step forward, your voice as stern as you can make it, “You owe it to me. Tell me why you are calling off our future.”
“I…” Dale starts before his blue eyes meet yours squarely for the first time since you arrived and he appears to shrink in on himself. He sighs a deep sigh, looking weary. “I could say any number of reasons, but you’re correct. They’re just excuses.” He pulls himself back up and braces himself. “In truth, I simply cannot bear to deceive you any longer.”
“Deceive me? About what? What can you not have told me that would cause our wedding to be canceled?” Panicked, wild scenarios begin to fly through your mind. “Did you marry someone else on your travels and they’ve arrived today? Have you been caught smuggling? Are you a wanted man? Did something happen this morning?”
Dale looks taken aback. He blinks at you. “Wha-? No, no—none of that.”
You feel some exasperation mixing with your frustration as he continues to talk around whatever he’s worried about. You’ve done this dance every day for weeks now and you are so, so tired of it. “Then what? I thought,” you swallow, hating how small your voice has gotten. You clear your throat and try again. “I thought you wanted this—wanted our marriage.”
“I do!” The words burst out of him, surprising you. How can he say so when he’s the one who is ruining it. He continues more quietly, as if the volume was what shocked you, “I do, but you don’t know…” He trails off again, looking away.
“Then tell me,” you plead, taking another step closer. Only another step or two and you could touch him. You could try in vain to keep him from leaving you.
“I,” he starts, looking at you and away again. “A few weeks ago, there was a… I mean to say that I,” he begins again, obviously having difficulty getting the words out. At least you can see he’s truly making the attempt this time. “Well, not me, but he…” Is this something the original Dale had done that was coming back to ruin everything? That was what you hoped for, in a strange way, because at least it would mean that this Dale still might want you. That whatever prompted this was out of his control. That maybe you could fix whatever it was. “I care about you,” he finally says, his eyes bright, bright blue as they meet yours squarely once more and your breath catches at the genuine sentiment in his voice, “more than I ever thought I would, but I’m not who you think I am.” He takes another deep breath and says bluntly, “Dale of Northridge died weeks ago and then I possessed his body.”
Everything seems to screech to a halt as he stares at you, his eyes pleading with you to understand. Aside from the relief at finally hearing him say it out loud, you don’t. Understand, that is. “Yes…” you say slowly, nodding. “And…?” You’re still waiting for him to complete the thought. To tell you what he’s been building to. Prompting him seemed to help before. “Did you eat someone a few weeks ago and have just now been discovered? Did something you forgot come back to cause problems now?”
“What?” Now Dale looks nearly as confused as you feel. It makes you want to scream in frustration because he’s the one doing this—he has to be the one that knows what is going on. “No, I don’t think you understand.” He talks more slowly, like you’re not hearing his words right. “I’m not human, I’m a demon.” He once again appears to brace himself for your reaction, but you still don’t get it.
Maybe you aren’t hearing him right, but that’s never happened before. Is this some new demonic power or collateral influence? “Yes, I know,” you reply just as deliberately. You enunciate as you ask, “But what did you do that means we can not be wed?”
“You must not be comprehending my words.” He seems to be aware of the issue, getting frustrated himself. He runs his fingers through his long dark hair before he takes on a consoling tone, “I know it is a great shock to find out your fiance is now a demon—”
“What?” You stare at him because is that what he thinks you are getting caught on? You put your hands on your hips and can’t say anything except, “Of course, I know you’re a demon.”
“What?” He leans back, eyes wide. “No.” Dale shakes his head. “How could you know that?”
“Did you think you’ve been doing an exemplary job of hiding it?” The response bursts out of you before you can help it. Because no, this cannot be the conversation you’re having. It can’t be. “How about we begin with how the human Dale was obviously interested in demonology and black market dealing. How excited he was the night before this,” you gesture to Dale’s entire body, “happened. How sick you were after and your memory issues. The fact that you occasionally have more eyes than is proper and your influence on shadows and the claws. You’ve had a tail at times, for stars’ sake!”
“Oh.” Dale’s voice is small and his eyes big as he stares down at you, clearly at a loss for words.
You’ve seemingly found a well of words with which to rebuke him. “Do you know how many times I’ve had to conceal your nature?” You take a step forward, unable to contain your ire and incredulity. He takes one back. “It is not as easy as you must believe to distract people from wriggling shadows and additional eyes and all the strange things you say. Did you really believe I didn’t know? That you were hiding it that well?”
“Well, I don’t know.” Dale sounds more flustered than you’ve ever heard him. “Humans are so oblivious most of the time!”
“Not that oblivious!”
Dale throws his hands up. “Well, no one’s instigated a purge, have they? And Grandfather and Grandmother don’t know, do they?”
Your heart rate is slowly returning to normal and you grudgingly admit, “No. Although Grandfather did think I’d cursed you for a couple weeks.”
“He thought you cursed me?”
“Yes!” you reply, exasperated that he didn’t even know. “After the hunt, where you did light knows what with the boar, he became convinced that I had cursed you or ensnared you with my ‘potions’. Perhaps while you were still recovering from your supposed illness. As a supposed practitioner of dark ritual or maybe even a summoner, he kept trying to exorcise me, which I had to make sure didn’t accidentally affect you.” When Dale just looks at you, obviously hearing this or putting the pieces together for the first time you can’t help, but feel as if you might be the one who has lost their mind. “You must remember when he practically threw a glass of holy water on us?”
Dale’s brow furrows. “…I did think that was a bit odd.”
You snort. “Yes, I would wager so.” Slowly, you realize you're laughing. You put a hand to your mouth but all it does is muffle the sound. Dale looks newly worried but you can’t stop. “I can’t believe you didn’t know that I knew.” Collapsing into a chair, you cover your face in your hands as you try to regain your composure.
How is this happening? How had you managed to get so far along without realizing he didn’t know that you knew? Who does that say more about him or you?
After a moment or two, you sense him near you and he asks, “Are you alright?” He sounds so concerned, like he’s still worried the knowledge of what he is, even if it isn’t new to you, might be capable of breaking your mind or whatever he feared would happen.
“Yes, yes,” you finally sit back up, blinking in the light as you attempt to reassure him. “I will be. I simply need a moment.” Dale hesitates from where he’s leaning over you before turning to fetch a cup of water. Haltingly, he holds out to you. “Thank you,” you say as you wipe away the tears that had gathered in the corners of your eyes while laughing.
You sip it carefully as you pull the tattered remains of your composure around yourself once more. Dale watches you take the first couple of sips before he begins to pace in obvious agitation. He’s clearly waiting for you to finish the glass before saying whatever is so clearly on his mind. You’re content to take your time and make him wait after everything he’s put you through, seemingly without even realizing what you were doing.
After a minute, you set the glass down deliberately and Dale comes to a stop in front of you. “I don’t…” he starts to say before changing his mind. “If you know, then why are you doing this?”
“Doing what?” you ask. He’s the one constantly doing incomprehensible things.
“Marrying me!” he says, rather emphatically, as though it should be obvious. He runs his hands through his hair. “Going through with this wedding! I don’t understand.” He sounds desperate to understand.
You feel of heat gather high on your cheeks, not having expected to have a light shown on your own actions so directly. “What do you mean? We’re betrothed. Getting married is the expected course of action.”
He gives you a flat look that says you’re not fooling him. “Try once more. I admit there were certain times where I did think you…” He looks at you, a distant look in his eyes as he remembers whatever particular instance. “Where I did think that you knew. Half a dozen times, I was sure you knew,” he continues, eyes intent once more, “but you didn’t do anything about it! You never revealed me or tried to exorcise me or even demand any sort of recompense for keeping it secret. You merely continued on as we had. You were still there, at my side.” He sighs and he looks so tired again. “And so I thought I must be wrong, that you couldn’t know.”
You're not sure what to say in the face of his conviction that you knowing what he is and you continuing to associate with him were so unlikely he’d discounted it out of hand. He made it sound like tolerating or using him was the most he’d expected. “I…”
“And you’re afraid of demons!” The words burst out of him. “So why would—?”
“I’m not afraid of you,” you reply because that’s certainly true. If the manner in which the shadows behind Dale are writhing in distress are any indication, the reassurance can’t hurt. You’re worried about how his nature makes life more complicated and what other people might do, but you’re long past the point of fearing he’d physically injure you on purpose.
“I heard you and Grandfather talking about Two,” Dale replies, as if that proves something. “How you feared them because of what they were. That night, when I remembered what I’d heard, I changed my mind again about what you knew.”
You stare at him before saying slowly, “Dale, I was afraid of Two because they were trying to kidnap and murder us. Their being a demon made them more dangerous, so yes, that made me fear them more than the others. You were who knows where fighting them on your own and I was worried about you.” If you thought Dale looked confused before, he looks downright confounded now. You keep talking, relishing in the opportunity to finally speak honestly about the attack, “However, you being a demon makes you stronger, which reassured me. I couldn’t say anything else because of Grandfather’s attitude, but I did not grow up in Northridge. I may not have met a demon before, but I didn’t live anywhere with the rigorous, studied suspicion and fear that Northridge cultivates.”
“The rest of the world is not Northridge,” Dale acknowledges having composed himself, “but it is not charitable in its view either. And it is not wrong in that opinion. I’ve been on the Surface before. No one has ever treated me in the manner you have after learning what I am. It was impossible to reconcile the person I got to know with someone who would want what humans understand demons to be.”
It’s not as though you can’t follow where he’s coming from. You haven’t told anyone else about what he is for a reason beyond just what Grandfather and Grandmother. You’d never even seriously considered telling any of your siblings because you know they wouldn’t understand. You want to ask further about the personal experience he’s alluding to but that isn’t what matters at this moment. “I…” You take a breath and finally say the obvious truth that you’ve never been able to say directly, even if you alluded to the sentiment right after the attack. “I do want to marry you.” Dale looks thunder-stuck. “Far more than I ever wanted to marry Dale before you took his place.”
“You do?” You’ve never seen Dale look so completely bewildered. “Why?”
“Because he was a selfish, mean, entitled prick.” The plain, honest words slip out without thought and Dale’s eyes widen. “Because you’re not. I like you.” You swallow and continue, “I think we get along well. I would have tolerated marrying him. You make me look forward to marriage.”
It's a weight lifted to finally say those words, but they inevitably bring up your own confusion, your own lack of understanding of this Dale’s motivations and you can’t pass up the opportunity to ask. “But this is not just about why I have stuck to this facade. Why have you?” You still have no notion of what a demon might want. You’d only barely convinced yourself that Dale wanted this partnership since he was going along with it. He isn’t now. So perhaps you don’t know anything at all. “You could have stolen all you could from Dale and then disappeared to live your own life about a week after being here. You don’t have to be, to be,” you search for the words to define what’s he’s been doing, especially knowing he’s not been working toward the same end goal as you, “taking part in all these events, and playing dutiful grandson with Grandfather, Grandmother, or all the others.” You take a deep breath and add, with only a small shake to your voice, “Or being with me. Why are you still here?”
Dale opens his mouth, but no sound comes out as he stares at you.
Your shoulders slump in the face of his inability to give any reason, let alone a compelling one. “Although, I suppose there is no more wedding, is there? You’ve called it off, for all you haven’t left or told me why.” The prospect of the fall-out to come leaves you exhausted and hurt already. “I assume that leaving will be your next move.”
“No, no,” Dale starts to protest, “I…” Something changes in his expression as he searches for the words to say and this time, they come out steady, “Originally, I stayed because it was easy. I thought the best stroke of luck I’d had in my existence was when that imbecile broke himself opening an unguarded portal and I’d won the fight for his body.”
“Oh.” It had never even occurred to you that there might have been such an event. No matter what he does next, you’re grateful this demon is the one who won too.
“It’d been so long since I’d been up on the Surface,” Dale says wistfully. “I didn’t have a plan beyond getting here. I suppose, at first, I had considered taking what I could and leaving to make my own life. Except…” Your breath, your future hangs on that “except.” “I enjoy it here. Northridge, I mean, not just being out of the Depths. It’s somewhat impossible to know how much is experience and how much is borrowed memory, but I care for Grandfather and Grandmother. And for you. What is here in Northridge is more than I’d hoped for. A safe den, a loyal clan, a bountiful territory, an exemplary mate. Why would I go searching for better when it seemed I’d already found all I could want?”
“Truly?”
“Yes.”
Dale seems so sincere but that only brings your mind back to what prompted this conversation. “Then why are you trying to stop the wedding?”
“Because I thought you didn’t know!” he protests. “I told myself that since I’d never out-right lied to you, that was good enough.” He sighs. “But I realized if my only reason for not telling you who you were even marrying was because you might make a choice I didn’t want, that it was rather despicable.”
You can’t help, but ask the obvious. “Then why didn’t you simply tell me instead of calling the wedding off?”
“Because I’m selfish too,” Dale says, “and I couldn’t bear for you to know the truth and look at me like—.” He breaks off, shaking his head.
He’s returned to not meeting your eyes. Tension has crawled back up his spine to settle in his shoulders. His arms are crossed and he still seems one wrong word away from running. As if Dale’s still waiting for you to reject him. Perhaps you need to make up for all the times you didn’t speak up before. It seems like a fair concession if the hope blooming in your chest is proven true.
You stand up from your chair, crossing the remaining distance between you and Dale. You place gentle hands on his forearms and they loosen under your touch. Carefully you push those crossed arms down until they hang by his sides where you can entwine your fingers with his. You take advantage of the height he has on you to look up into his eyes, not even surprised to find more than just two. “Well, I do know.” Those glowing blue eyes stare back down at you with the same hope reflected in them. “And I still want to marry you. If you do.”
Dale’s answer is immediate and earnest, “I do. I want that. I want the life we spoke of building more than anything else I’ve ever thought to want.”
You nod, a smile breaking out across your face. “Good. Go-” He cuts you off with a kiss, which starts out light but grows in pressure when you kiss him back. He tries to lift a hand to your face, but instead the back of your own hand still held in his touches your cheek instead. You pull back to see the pout he makes as he stares at his hand, obviously unsure of whether to let yours go or to keep holding on.
The sound of a door opening above you followed by disgruntled voices pops the bubble of privacy you’d been enclosed in. You sigh. “While we still need to have a full conversation, I think it can wait for tonight at the least, yes?” Dale nods eagerly. “Then I must return to getting ready.”
“And I must assure Grandfather my ‘bout of childish insanity’ is indeed over. I’ve never seen him so furious.” At the look of surprise on your face, Dale smiles. “Regardless of what he thought before, Grandfather certainly thinks well of you now. He repeatedly told me that this would be the worst decision I ever made if I went through with it. He’s refused to even tell Grandmother, more out of fear for me than for her.”
High on emotion and relief, you giggle, too pleased that Grandfather spoke so strongly in your favor. “Did he?”
“Yes,” Dales says as he leads you to the study door. “And it's not as though I could provide a solid defense when I knew he was right.” He pulls you into a solid embrace before letting you go with a final kiss pressed to your forehead.
You pull the door open without looking away from him, not able to resist asking for one last reassurance, “Your word that you will be there at the other end of the aisle?”
Dale smiles. “Yes, sana, I give you my word that I will let nothing stand in the way of our wedding, not even myself.”

— gorgeous, so furious !
neteyam felt relieved as soon as he saw y/n. she seemed happier, less up-tight than she was the last time he saw her. he decided to ignore what kiri and lo'ak had been saying about her making him jealous, chalked it up to her having a bad day.
y/n sat closer to neteyam than she usually would, their chairs almost touching as they finished their assignment together.
"are you gonna miss me when we don't have to work together anymore?" neteyam asked her with a smirk on his lips.
"you wish," y/n scoffed.
"I'd like to think you'll miss me," he smiled, "I'll miss you,"
y/n had to stop herself from swooning then are there. there was something endearing about neteyam not knowing the effect he had on y/n. she thought it made him that much more attractive.
they sat together for way longer than they needed to. neither of them wanted to leave, creating excuses to stay with each other for longer. neteyam began to notice small things about y/n the more he saw her. the way she had a laugh when she was comfortable, one for when she wasn't. he felt almost honoured that she felt comfortable around him.
"oh shit," neteyam picked up his phone, a photo of his younger sister lit up his screen. "tuk is calling, do you mind?"
"answer the phone stupid," she laughed.
neteyam chuckled before answering the phone. y/n could hear tuk's voice through the phone.
"teyam!" she exclaimed.
"hey tuk, what's up?" he smiled as he spoke.
"will you be home tonight? I want to get ice cream with you"
"yes, I'll be home- not sure when, but we can get ice cream" he nodded. y/n's face lit up watching neteyam talk to his littlest sister. she knew he was a good brother, but he was so sweet with her. "I have a question for you,"
"yeah?"
"what are you doing on your phone at school when you're supposed to be grounded?" he smirked, putting his head down.
neteyam was met with silence and three quick beeps on the other line. tuk had hung up on him. he and y/n burst out in laughter. they weren't spared from dirty looks across the library.
"she is actually such a troublemaker," he shook his head.
"she sounds so cute," y/n chuckled.
"yeah, but she knows it!" he exclaimed, still whispering, "it's not a good combination"
"I can imagine,"
they forgot their work for a little while, talked about their families. y/n could tell that they were neteyam's greatest joy. he loved them so much. they eventually got back onto the topic of their work, but only for a few minutes before neteyam's phone rang again.
he flipped it over to look at who was calling before letting out a sigh.
it was a'korai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"did you want to get that?" y/n asked, holding her breath, "I dont mind,"
"not really to be honest," neteyam laughed awkwardly, "shes been texting me all day,"
"oh really?" y/n didn't mean to sound too excited, but the sound of neteyam's distain at her calling and messaging him made her happy.
"yeah," he stretched his arms behind his head, the bottom of his t-shirt riding up- y/n tried to not let her gaze linger on his v-line, "one of the other guys in our class gave her my number and she's been messaging me all the time" he explained. "it's not that she's not nice, she is!" he jumbled, not wanting to sound like too much of a dick, "but.. I don't know, we're not really friends? so I'm not sure why she's texting me all the time and now she's calling me? like I don't know what I'll say to her, what are we even going to talk about?"
y/n started to laugh at neteyam. kiri was right, he was oblivious. "neteyam, did you ever think that she might have a little crush on you?"
it was like she was watching the cogs in his head turn, or watching a computer reboot. "no," he shook his head finally, "no way,"
"oh yeah," y/n laughed, nodding her head, "she likes you,"
"you think?" it was like he was shocked that a girl could possibly have feelings for him.
he was so stupidly gorgeous in this moment, y/n really was down bad. "definitely," she nodded.
"well.. I don't really like her like that," he shrugged.
"that's fine, you dont' have to"
"I should probably keep my distance then, yeah? don't wanna make her think anything of it," he asked.
the thought of saying 'yes, keep your distance' flashed across y/n's mind. sabotage, that's you're neteyam. as much as she wanted to, she knew that she couldn't. y/n wanted him to be happy. "I mean, do whatever feels right.. you know?" she shrugged.
he stared at y/n for a little while before speaking. it made her heart race. "thanks," he smiled.
"you're welcome?"
"come on," neteyam closed the lid of his laptop and began to pack away his things. y/n looked up at him in confusion.
"come on to where?" she asked with a soft laugh.
"we'll you're not gonna have lunch unless I make you, so we're going to get lunch" he shoved his car keys in his pocket. "let's go," he gestured to the door with his head.
"but-"
"nope! let's go," he cut her off, not letting her object.
y/n sighed before closing her laptop lid, "fine,"
"don't 'fine' me, young lady" neteyam began to pack away y/n's things for her, "now move it,"

— gorgeous, so furious ! new chapter! no angst between neteyam and y/n, this is a soft fic I promise. I also cannot handle writing angst, I am a fluff girl first! I hope you're all loving the story, the amount of people reading it is crazy to me- so thank you <3

💋She is a woman who is not afraid of blood and always hepls her husband with his tasks like one day he came home coverd in blood and she scolded him for coming home late.
Tumblr media
Preface: You are the loyal wife of Kosair, but no one knows that since you tend to stay home and out of the public eye. However, you receive a summons from your sister-in-law, Navier, asking you to become her lady-in-waiting since Viscountess Verdi left to be employed by Rashta. You accepted the position, and a whole spiel of events happened after that.
Tumblr media
Sovieshu
Upon seeing you on your first day within the palace, he was absolutely smitten. Not only were you absolutely beautiful, but you also had the voice and kindness as a goddess. As a result, he tried to get to know you. However, you took your job as Navier’s lady-in-waiting very seriously and was entirely dedicated to her.
You weren’t exactly surprised when he asked you to be his second mistress, considering he would pull any excuse to be around you. However, you declined his offer, saying that you were sure your husband wouldn’t be happy about that, and that you were loyal to Kosair and not even death could part you. That is one way to bruise an Emperor’s ego.
He kind of ignored the part where you said you were already married before being employed in the castle, and he assumed that he lost you to his brother-in-law. The two already hated each other, so when your husband came to visit Navier, Sovieshu gritted his teeth as he watched Kosair kiss you. The ring on your finger had never shown clearer than at this moment.
Tumblr media
Rashta
She immediately saw you as a threat to her and her already damaged reputation. You outshined her in just about everything, be it kindness, charm, or just beauty in general. She stood no chance against you, and she couldn’t spread any rumors about you that wouldn’t make it sound like she’s just jealous of you.
When she found out that Sovieshu had asked you to be his second mistress, she was absolutely terrified at what that might entail. Was he bored of her? Would she be kicked out of the palace? Would she have to go back to her life of slavery? Well, good thing you refused.
However, as much as she wanted to not believe it, the truth was still there: the Emperor was infatuated with you. Rashta could see it as he forced a smile in your and Kosair’s direction. At least you weren’t willing to betray your husband. Maybe you were less of a threat than she originally thought.
Tumblr media
Navier
She was a bit annoyed that Viscountess Verdi left, but she had the perfect idea for a replacement. So, she wrote a letter to you, and was glad to see you show up ready for the job. You caught up quickly, and you did really well. You had the voice of a nightingale, and it soothed her to no end. You promised to both her and your husband that they would be the only ones that you would sing for.
You told her that Sovieshu had asked you to become his mistress and that he promised you would never have to work another day in your life. Navier covered her smile because she knew that with the passion you both showed at your wedding, you and Kosair were still very much in love with each other and well on your way to starting a family.
The time that Kosair visits her, she knew that he was instead trying to visit you. The Empress felt a bit smug upon seeing her jealous husband watch as your husband dipped you down and kissed you right in the middle of the room. For once, Sovieshu got a taste of his own medicine, and Navier was happy about it.
Tumblr media
Heinrey
He first met you when he visited Navier in his bird form, and as much as he would like to say you were beautiful… he was biased towards his Queen. No offense, but we all know how much he is absolutely in love with the Empress. Obviously he is going to think that Navier is the most beautiful person that the world has ever seen, and we love him for that.
All this aside, you both are in an alliance of sorts. He was not allowed to hear you sing, but during that time where he wasn’t allowed to come visit you would gather information that you would give him at a later time. In his bird form, he knew where to find you, so it was never really a problem.
When Kosair had been exiled from the Eastern Empire, he was aware that you would probably want to go with him. Thus, he offered his Kingdom as an escape so that neither of you would be targeted by an Emperor (*cough*Sovieshu*cough*) in any fashion. Plus, he knew that if he was going to have Navier move to his Kingdom as well, you needed to be there as well.
Tumblr media
Kosair
This man is most definitely in love with you. Whenever he gets angry, you’re either there to calm him down or say you forgot your weapon, darling! Then you give him a kiss and he forgets why he’s mad or who he’s mad at. He’s just so lucky that you chose him out of all your possible suitors. But he’s still insecure so he wants to make sure that no other man steals you away, thus you stay in the Manor.
However, you receive a letter from Navier, asking if you would become her lady-in-waiting. Kosair was scared about his brother-in-law trying to make a move on you, but you reminded him that no one loved you like he did (take that as you may), and you promised him that, aside from Navier, he was the only person you would sing for.
When he went to visit Navier, he really just wanted to see you, his beloved wife. He also wanted to give Sovieshu a message: you were his and his alone. So, he dipped you down and kissed you right in front of him. Very passionately, too. The hand you placed on the back of his neck made him want to keep going, but you were in front of an audience, so you both parted.

Detective Tim Rockford with “I thought you liked forehead kisses” 😌 because I love forehead kisses
Tim Rockford. 2,836 words. "I thought you liked forehead kisses." Co-written with @absurdthirst Warnings: Grief, trauma from family death, discussions of death, angst, discussion of divorce, reconciliation Sequel to: “Wait! Please don’t leave!”
Tumblr media
The days are shorter right now. He excuses himself by saying that he’s just checking in with you, but that’s easy considering you are still staying in his house. Weeks have come and gone, the crime scene tape has been cleared from the yard and the front door of the house you shared with your sister, but you haven’t been able to go back there, not even to pick up clothes. Opening the door to the house he is once more sharing with you, he calls out your name, turning and closing the door with a decisive click and turning the deadbolt to give you that extra sense of security you need. “Sweetheart? Where are you?”
“I’m in the kitchen.” Such a Donna Reed thing to say, but it’s true. And the semblance of a normal routine is helping to ground you, if you’re honest. The office is letting you work from home while you sort out your family tragedy and try to cope, but the fact is that being back in the house that you and Tim picked out together gives you a sense of safety and security.
He drops his keys on the entryway table and shucks his jacket, his shoulder harness still in place over his button down shirt as he walks into the kitchen. “Hey.” He sends you a soft smile, still trying to ignore how right it seems to have you here. He had been sharing his bed with you, not fucking you, but you had curled into his arms that first night and he hadn’t been able to turn you away when you needed comfort. “How are you doing today?”
“About the same.” No one expected this to be easy for you, but having Tim to lean on for support has helping more than you could possibly know. “But I, um…I made chicken parm for dinner…” It’s the smallest thing you could possibly do to thank him for taking you in, and it turns out that after all these years cooking is fairly soothing for you. The machinations of the kitchen are a comforting routine. So making his favourite dinner was not a very hard leap to take.
“You didn’t have to do that.” His protest is perfunctory, already drooling at the thought of your chicken parm. He’s never found one close to it. “But thank you.” Moving over to give you a hug, he presses his lips to your forehead gently.
It’s such a small gesture, but it warms you through to the point of making you ache. Practically making you melt against him. “What was that for?” You ask, almost like you’re afraid of what he might be getting ready to tell you. It’s been three weeks and you’re still here — maybe he wants you to leave or has finally realized this whole thing is inappropriate. Or worse — he’s realized that you still have feelings for him.
Tim pulls back, worried that he had possibly overstepped. He’s tried so hard, but it’s almost impossible when he’s still in love with you. Never stopped loving you if he’s honestly with himself. He shoots you a sheepish look. “I thought you liked forehead kisses.” He murmurs softly.
“I do.” And your cheeks are burning at the seemingly innocent show of affection. “I just…I’m surprised you remember, that’s all.” It seems like such a tiny thing to you. That fact that he remembers speaks volumes.
“I remember.” Tim answers quietly, his eyes sliding away from your face before he admits he remembers everything about what you like.
“I do, too.” You remember everything. The good and the bad. Including how you pulled the plug on your marriage too quickly. There should have been counseling and compromises. But you had reacted impulsively and he hadn’t fought you. So you had just…thought he agreed. That your marriage wasn’t worth saving after all.
Holding you close for another moment, Tim pulls away. Refusing to take advantage of your emotional vulnerability. “I picked up some clothes for you today.” He murmurs softly.
“You didn’t have to do that.” The day after the attack you had managed to get yourself to Target with the help of an emergency appointment with your therapist, and have been working off those supplies for weeks now.
“I know, but I thought it would be nice for you to have some of your things.” He’s not going to mention that he had the crime scene clean up crew in. It would be okay for you to go home but he doesn’t want you to.
“Thank you.” It’s almost painful to have him move away, but you can’t tell how much of it is grief, how much of it is missing him, and how much of it is gratitude. “Dinner’s almost ready…I had it all set up so you could work late if you need to…I just need to cook off the spaghetti and melt some cheese over the chicken.”
“Thank you.” You’ve been so understanding if he had to work late, probably because he’s working on your sister’s case, but he has news for you. “Sit down for a minute please, I want to talk to you.”
“Is everything okay?” It can’t be. Not if he has that serious tone. But you swallow hard and try not to catastrophize what it could be — that won’t help a single bit. All you can do is sink into a chair with wobbly knees and try not to fear the worst. That the man who killed your sister has gotten away. Or even killed again.
Tim kneels down in front of you again, taking your hands in his. “This afternoon, I arrested the man who murdered your sister.” He tells you softly. “He confessed. There’s no way he’s getting away with it.”
“He—he confessed?” The way you had been prepared for a fight. To have to look the man in the eyes in a court of law and make him admit it or worse. If he actually went free? The absolute terror in your heart that has been clutching into your soul with a merciless grip just slips, and with it comes the outpouring of tears that you’ve been holding back for weeks.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, baby.” You rock forward in a sob and he catches you in his arms, holding you close while you cry in rage, grief and absolute sorrow for the sister that has been taken from you and the life you have lost. “We have him, baby. It doesn’t bring her back, but he’s going to rot in jail for what he’s done.”
Without any concept of how long you cry for, all you know is that Tim stays there — crouched with his bad knees and his worse back — in front of you and holds you the whole time. He’s been the calm against the storm for this entire tragedy. He’s been a rock in the stormiest sea you’ve ever encountered, and you couldn’t be more grateful for the way he’s handled everything. By the time you finish crying, you’re shaking in his arms and really almost collapsed into him. It would be embarrassing if it weren’t the only other person in the world who means this much to you.
You are exhausted by the time you’ve stopped crying. Your eyes are puffy and your nose stuffed up but you are still the most gorgeous creature he’s ever seen. You sit back in your chair and he pats your knee. “Let me make you some tea, sweetheart. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.”
“I’m okay,” you promise him, despite that clearly not being the truth. You feel like you’ve been hit by a truck even and though you tried so hard to make him a nice dinner — you’re just exhausted.
“I know you are.” Tim murmurs softly, moving over to the kettle and bringing it to the sink to fill with water. It was one you had left, unused until you came back since he lived off coffee and cigarettes, the occasional take away Chinese. “You are a strong woman. But I know what you are going through. I see it everyday, sweetheart.”
“I was so unfair to you.” The regret in your voice is palpable. The sadness and the resignation. Knowing that if you had bent just a little instead of thinking you had to be strong as stone and simply end things, you might have been able to break through and realize that this is what Tim deals with on a daily basis.
“I kept all of this from you.” Tim reminds you. He had bottled up all his emotions towards the job, never letting you see the toll it takes on him. Never letting you understand why he was so driven to solve the case. He had witnessed too many people crying for their loved ones. Had too many mothers and wives, sisters and lovers collapse into his arms sobbing. He moves over to the stove and sets the kettle to boil, turning on the water in the pot beside it for the spaghetti. “I didn’t want it to touch you.”
“I’m so sorry, Tim.” From your place hunched over at the dining room table where you shared so many meals together, your head drops to hang between your shoulder blades.
“Hey…hey…” he moves back over, his hands on your shoulders instantly, squeezing gently. “You have nothing to apologize for.” He promises you. “Nothing. It was me.”
“We should have tried counseling. Or just talking more.” When he comes up in back of your chair you lean back instantly to be closer to him. “I’ve always hated myself for just leaving.”
“You weren’t happy.” Tim reminds you. “I didn’t make it easy for you when we were married, so when you said you wanted a divorce…I just— I gave you what you wanted.” He admits quietly. “I didn’t have the right to beg you for another chance, for anything really.” He had to talk to a therapist after he had killed a man right after the divorce, it was standard police protocol to be released back on the force, but he had worked through a lot of his issues. “I- compartmentalized when we were together, but I had a hard time decompressing. Putting work aside. You deserved so much more, but I just couldn’t give it to you then. I was trying to get those poor victims families some peace. To let the victims rest.”
“And I should have realized how much good you do for those families. For—” A shaky, shallow breath cracks out of you. “For the victims.” For people just like your sister. “And then the second it suits me I come back in and take advantage of the thing that I said I hated?” Shaking your head, you honestly can’t understand why he even bothers with you. He should have just told you to get a hotel room, and instead he’s been sharing his bed with you and fetching your clothes from your house. “I—I’m just so fucking sorry, honey.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for.” He repeats softly, his fingers brushing your neck, feeling your pulse jump and he knows that it’s not the time or the place, but he can’t help himself. “I would do anything for you, sweetheart.” He admits. “I love you.”
Even though the pronounced frown on your face is from the situation and your tears and not from him, it feels like it deepens when your eyes widen and you turn around to face him again. “You mean you used to.” You correct carefully, trying to understand.
His heart aches at the displeasure in your face, aware that you wouldn’t want him to love you anymore. Still, he shakes his head. “No, I mean I still love you.” He confesses. “Never stopped, not even when you left.” He holds up his hands in surrender. “I’m not trying to convince you of anything. But babe, I’m here for you because I love you, and you needed someone who cares about you.”
"You don't have to convince me of anything." The corners of your mouth turn up like a confession of your own, although you're still not entirely sure that you can even wrap your mind around what he's laying out in front of you. "What's the quote? If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours."
“I knew your address.” He’s not done laying everything out. Rolling his eyes at himself and tilting his head. “Slight misuse of resources. But when that call came over the radio, I think I stopped breathing. I know my heart stopped.” He shakes his head. “All I could think was that I had lost you, and you weren’t even mine anymore. But as long as you were safe and happy out in the world, I was okay.” His voice cracks slightly. “Thinking the worst….” He shakes his head again. “I feel so fucking guilty because of how happy I was that it wasn’t you.”
"That...would explain why your young Detective Fallon was curious about our relationship." The question while you gave your statement -- a perfunctory measure since you didn't really see anything but it was a crime in your home with your sister as the victim so you needed to be eliminated as a suspect -- had surprised you but you had answered it honestly and moved on. "He thinks the world of you, by the way." Swallowing thickly, you push yourself to your feet to actually look Tim in the eyes. "And so do I."
“You feel appreciative of me helping you.” Tim doesn’t want to hope, and the look in your eyes gave him doing exactly that. “I don’t want to ever take advantage of you, sweetheart.”
"Baby..." As free as Tim has been with terms of endearment, you have been more guarded. Making sure that what you've been feeling wasn't powered by grief or the fear of being alone. But...it's Tim. This man is still your husband in your heart, even if not on paper. "I didn't leave because I stopped loving you. I never stopped loving you."
He stares at you for a moment, weighing your words and he closes his eyes in acceptance. His hands drift down to his hips and he swallows. “What do you want to do, sweetheart?” He asks softly.
“I don’t know.” You admit quietly, wanting to take another step closer but afraid to move a muscle. “But I know I don’t want to walk away from you again.”
“I had the clean up crew come through your place.” He murmurs softly. “You can rent it, sell it, burn it to the ground.” He huffs, “but don’t tell me about that one. I’d have to arrest you.”
“I’ve already decided to sell it.” Even thinking that Tim was only being nice because of what happened a few weeks ago, you hadn’t known that part of your hesitancy to leave this house was going back there. Even if he wanted you gone, you were finding someplace new.
“I think that’s a good idea.” He knows you will have to wait if you bought it with your sister. Her estate would have to be settled, but you can always stay here. Even if you don’t want to live here permanently again. “We can arrange for packers to come? So you don’t have to be there?”
“It shouldn’t be hard for me to find a place.” Even though you don’t want to. Even though you just want to stay here with Tim in the house you should have been living in for years. “I’m sure you don’t want me taking up your space. Even if you—if we—”
“Stay.” Tim interrupts you immediately. “Please. I want you to stay.” He gives you a small smile. “This is your house too. Always has been. Just- the joy left it when you moved out and I want it back.”
“I want to stay.” And admitting that out loud feels like you could collapse again but this time with sheer relief.
Tim steps closer to you, his arms coming around you again and he kisses your forehead once more. “Then stay, baby.” He whispers lovingly. “You never have to leave.”
However much you might have grown in the time you were apart, or what you might have discovered about yourselves, you’re still standing here in the kitchen of the house you picked out together. With your arms around each other. And with the gratitude that life is still allowed to have bright spots in the inky black darkness. “I missed you, love.”
“I missed you too.” A case had brought you back into his life, a horrible one, but it had allowed you both to compromise. To yield just enough to be able to come back together again. Detective Tim Rockford wouldn’t make the mistake of overlooking important clue to your feelings this time.

Jack had attempted to call you multiple times after you had hung up on him, but you steadily let it go to voice-mail. In order to stop hearing the constant ringing, you placed your phone on silent as you decided to take a bath to hopefully relax and get your thoughts together. You felt guilty for hanging up on him, but your thoughts and feelings were valid. You felt like he left you out to dry instead of helping you through everything. Responsibility was taken on your part for running off and not telling anyone and you knew deep down that your trauma response to situations was anything but healthy.
Now moving forward, you had to deal with the fact that you were going through a divorce, pregnant, and as far as you were concerned you were in this for the time being alone. Wanting a relationship with Jack was still on the table, but at the moment you weren't 100% sure. Your thoughts were interrupted by Tania frantically knocking on the bathroom door.
“Y/N! Did you hang up on your baby daddy?!” She asked and all you did was sigh before rolling your eyes. You should have known that his next move would be to call Tania.
“I don't want to talk to him right now.” You answered her through the door and you immediately heard her sigh.
“Babe, you…. Okay. Y/N, I know that you are extremely mad at him and for good reason and I know his reaction wasn't the best when you told him, but you need him right now and he's trying to fix this.”
“I'll talk to him when I'm ready. I don't know when that will be, but this is a lot to take in. I need to take time and work through my feelings.”
“You know for a fact that he's probably going to ask you to come back to Louisville.”
When you were quiet, she immediately opened the door.
“Y/N? It might be best if you go back. Just think, you have your parents, your brother and sister, Jack, Jack's parents. Your entire support system is in Louisville.”
“You aren't there.”
“I can always stay with you for a few months until you get into a comfortable routine. That isn't an excuse.”
“Tania, what if we really aren't supposed to be together?” You softly whispered and her face immediately fell as she saw the tears in your eyes.
“Y/N, that man loves you and we are not doing this. The two of you are supposed to be together, end of story. If he didn't love you, he wouldn't have immediately been blowing up my phone to check on you because you weren't answering him to make sure you were okay. So can you please call him back once you get dressed?”
“I'll think about it.”
“Well you didn't say no, so I'll take it.”
As soon as you hung up on him, Jack was immediately dialing your number again in the hopes that you would answer but deep down he knew that his chances were slim to none. When you didn’t answer, he knew that Tania was with you and immediately called her.
“Hello?”
“Tania! Is Y/N with you? She called me on facetime, but hung up after she told me uh…”
“That she’s pregnant? Yes, I know. Go on.”
“I.. I guess that my reaction wasn’t the best and that she said that I failed her through this entire situation. Can you just tell her to call me back? I need to fix this and I have to make her understand that I want to be with her.”
“I’ll do my best, Jack, but I’m not promising you anything. She’s hurting and she’s hurting badly. She feels that you just left her to fend for herself after she got up and moved back home all for you to break it off with her. She feels like maybe you don’t want this as much as you say you did.”
“But I do! I love her and I want us to be together. I just want us to be able to start fresh with nothing hanging over our heads or nothing holding us back.”
“That’s fair and I know you told her that, but I don’t know. I’ll talk to her and see what I can do.”
When Jack had gotten off the phone with her, he went back into the studio where everyone else was and he was in somewhat of a daze, and for good reason. Clay was the first one that noticed that something was wrong with his brother and wasted no time in asking him.
“Jack?”
“Hmm?”
“How’d it go?”
“She hung up on me.” He answered quietly and Urban immediately shook his head.
“But… I feel like there’s something else.” Clay added and Jack sighed before answering and running a hand through his curls.
“She’s pregnant and I didn’t have the best reaction because I was surprised obviously… and I don’t know.”
A collective gasp was heard before the room fell silent.
“Wait, pregnant by WHO? It better not be by her ex-husband. She deserves so much better than that asshole. He already had a baby on her!” Urban said as he was the first one to speak.
“By the look on Jack’s face, that baby is his.”
“Damn, pregnant by your ex-boyfriend and currently divorcing your husband? Y/N’s life sounds like a lifetime movie.” 2fo said from the corner.
“Sooo, are you going to Calabasas to get your girl or what? If you say anything other than yes, you deserve to get your ass beat.”
“She probably isn’t even going to open the door if I show up.”
“If Y/N is not answering her phone and you want her as bad as you say you do, you are going to do what you need to do in order to make her believe you. We’ve been rooting for the two of you since Clay got her to come to your birthday party. Like I said, this has been the happiest that I’ve seen you in a very long time. Both of you need to get your shit together and work on this because now it’s not only you two that you need to think about. Another person is involved who is counting on the both of you.” Neelam said to Jack as everyone in the room collectively agreed.
“Because we can work from any studio in the world. That isn't an issue. What you need to focus on is getting Y/N to talk to you.”
Jack had been in California for more than a week and still had yet to call you. Instead, he drowned himself in work and making multiple appearances
all while complaining and getting on Clay's nerves and he had to get his older brother to come to his senses one way or another.
They were currently in the studio once again and Clay was eyeing Jack as he was currently scrolling through his camera roll which consisted of 90% of your pictures and waiting for a few more people to get there. When Jack looked up and caught Clay staring at him, he looked at him confused.
“What?”
“We have literally been here going on two weeks and you have YET to talk to your girl. You've been avoiding this entire situation and you're getting on my nerves. I did my part and reunited the two of you so you better make this work.” Clay confessed being completely honest.
“I… I didn’t even do anything!”
“Exactly, hence the getting on my nerves part.”
“I….”
“You claim that you want her so bad, but I don't know if you really do and by this point, she probably thinks you two have called it quits.”
“We're on a break for the HUNDREDTH time!”
“Dumbass boyfriend and baby daddy of the year award.”
“HEY!”
“CALL HER.”
“But…”
“Better yet, go see her. You know where she lives.”
Jack’s response was interrupted by 2fo coming in through the door along with Nickie, but Clay just shook his head at him before pulling out his phone and texting you.
Clay- Y/N, your boyfriend and baby daddy has been in California for almost two weeks and claims that he wants to talk to you and see you. But yet he's been up my ass and getting on my nerves and not coming to talk to you. Congratulations on the baby, by the way. I’m excited to be an uncle.
You- HUH? And thanks, I guess.
Clay- He is getting on my LAST NERVE. He misses you, but won't do anything about it because he feels guilty and feels that you don't want to talk to him. I guess because of what happened last time.
You- I’m willing to talk to him, but he has to meet me halfway. All he literally has to do is call me or come and see me. I don't really go anywhere. When he gets himself together, let me know
Once Clay had put his phone down, he was eyeing Jack once again.
“We're staying for two hours and then you’re going to see her.”
“Did we switch places today? I thought I was the oldest.”
“I clearly have to take over since you're being a dumbass.”
It was around 7 at night when you got a call on your phone from Jack and you stared at it for a second before deciding to answer it. You figured that you might as well since he was attempting to make an effort so should you.
“Yes, Jackman?”
“Uh hey, um I'm outside.”
“Wait….. like outside my house?” You asked. You knew Clay had told you that he was here, but you expected for him to wait until you reached out first.
“Yeah, been out here close to an hour to get the nerve to tell you I was out here.”
“Okay. I'm coming to open the door. Hold on.”
You hung up the phone and threw your fluffy comforter away from your body as you got up to make your way downstairs. Once you opened the door and came face to face with him, your breath hitched in your throat and you didn't realize how much you actually missed him until he was right in front of you. You were still mad at him, but seeing that he made the effort to come and see you made It a little less.
Catching you off guard, once Jack stepped across the threshold of the house, he immediately embraced you in a hug which almost made you lose your balance as you let out a yelp from being caught off guard. It took you a second, but you hugged him back and the two of you stood there for what seemed like ten minutes before the two of you broke apart. He then leaned down to kiss you, which you gladly accepted before the two of you made your way over to the couch in the living room.
It was quiet for a few more minutes before anyone spoke. But you figured it was now or never.
“What took you so long to come and see me?” You asked as you got straight to the point.
“I didn't think you wanted to be bothered with me and I thought that you probably wouldn't come to the door if I did.”
“Jackman, if I didn't want to be bothered with you I would have made that perfectly clear. I uprooted the life that I knew for almost six years to move back to Louisville for you. If I didn't love you, why in the world would I have done that?”
“I know, but I feel like I put too much pressure on you in order to do that and I'm sorry. I only suggested it because I thought that was what you would want. I wanted you to get away from this environment and start fresh.”
“I do want that. I want this life with you. I just didn't expect you to suggest that we shouldn't be together right now. That hurt me. For so long, I was with someone who didn't give a damn about me and then the one person that I wanted to be with left me high and dry.”
“It wasn't my best idea and I… I thought that If I did that, somehow someway it would shield you from the media and how they’ve been acting towards you. In the end I did it to protect you but it only ended up hurting both of us even more. I just don't want anything happening to you because of what my job is.”
“I get that.”
It was quiet again for a few seconds before Jack put his hand on your stomach.
“And I'm sorry for the way I reacted when you told me about the baby. I want nothing more than to have a baby with you and I'm sorry it didn't come off that way. I just feel like I'm going to be apologizing all night.” He quietly said before starting to draw circles on your now flat belly.
“All we can do is move forward. I found a therapist and I'm going to see her tomorrow along with my divorce lawyer.”
“Oh, I should mention that Kelsey told me she knew from the second the two of you met and how we interacted that something was going on. She's actually taking this surprisingly well. We definitely could have gone about it a different way, but the only thing I regret is not protecting you how I should have. I'll probably never forgive myself for that.”
“Well I forgive you and we've moved on from that.”
“And another thing we need to establish….” Jack started to say and you looked at him to continue.
“Yes?”
“No more running from me. We figure it out together or not at all. No exceptions. I never want to have to worry about you like that again. I was damn near ready to call the police, but Janelle insisted that I didn't.”
“I… agree with that. And I’m sorry for leaving and not letting you know I was safe.”
“I thought I lost you for good that night not knowing if you were going to come back or not.” Jack quietly confessed as he slid you onto his lap.
“You should realize that I'm always going to come back to you. My track record is pretty good in that regard.”
“It is.”
As Jack was still drawing small circles on your belly, you simply placed your hand on top of his before looking up at him.
“I think it's a boy.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Just a feeling that I have, that's all.” You replied while shrugging.
“Well whether it's a boy or a girl, they were made out of love and I know that we're going to amazing parents.”
“And they're going to be so loved by everyone around them. However, I'm surprised you haven't asked me yet.” You said as you started to play with Jack’s beard.
“Asked you, what babe?”
“When I’m coming back to Louisville.”
“I'm ready when you are.”
