Fic concept I am struggling to write:
Fives gets stuck in what I'm opting to call 'Groundmott day'.
Either he's on Kamino so he can save Tup, or on the way to Corsucant when he wakes up.
And every time he's killed or the day ends, he goes straight back there. And at first, he's frustrated.
Then he realises that a) he can't die, and b) there will be no permeant repercussions for his actions.
Cue him being an absolute delinquent.
Commandeering the shuttle and flying it straight into the Chancellor's chambers, killing them all. He wakes up again.
Shouting and screaming to Shaak-Ti about Nala-Se trying to drug him, which stops that, and then he speaks to the Chancellor, who starts off being all 'so you thought you could ruin my grand master plan. See, my end goal is....
and Fives just shrugs and replies 'Giving out order 66 to kill all the Jedi. Yeah. Boring. Can I use your lightsaber?"
And the Chancellor is just like
Tumblr media
But Fives is so non-chalant, and he knows everything and the Chancellor is like 'who is this clone?' and panics and kills him.
And Fives wakes up again.
So he escapes like before, except this time, he doesn't try to kill the Chancellor. He kisses him. Square on the lips. And runs while he's paralyzed with shock. Heads to 79's and find Kix. Tells him about the time loop, about the chips, about everything. Says he's going to reset at midnight and that Kix needs to tell him someone only he would know, so he can convince him quickly if time runs out.
And it just escalates and escalates. In less and less time, he manages to gather more and more people.
But I just love the idea of the Chancellor being all 'oh, poor little clone, here come into my office and you can tell me everything'
*door closes*
Palpatine: Ahahaha you have become trapped in my web, little fly, you see...
Fives: Chips in every clone, Order 66, Jedi dead, you bad, rule galaxy, yeah, got it. Can I try and kill you so I can escape now? I've got stuff to do.
Note: this came to me at 3 am when I felt sick and couldn't sleep and I cannot write it without it being all serious and blegh.
Can someone help? Can anyone help? Nobody knows!

Oh my fairy godmother I am so happy you are post about Ever After High!!! Do you have any fanfic or au ideas involving them? Like, what if one character had another destiny or what if they were in the Star Wars universe?! It’s just interesting to think about!
Hey! Glad to see we share another fandom interest!
So, I have this barebones post for what I would have done as a crossover between g1 Monster High and Ever After High.
As for general fanfic ideas I have a few. I shall now list them in varying levels of detail:
1. A Very Charming Groundhog Day Year:
Basically, the Charming siblings time loop back from a bit after Dragon Games but before Epic Winter to the day before the school year started (the day of the Family Ball in the books). While it would be kinda angsty, the best time loop fics are usually crack fics, and this would be no exception (if I ever wrote any of these things).
So Daring, Dexter, and Darling are all initially in states of panic and anxiety. Daring, he was in the middle of a quarter-life crisis and now has to deal with everyone and their fairy godmother thinking he's Apple's Prince Charming.
"Daring Charming, more like Distressed Charming, am I right?"-- Dexter, who should get to exhibit asshole little brother energy more often, as a treat.
Speaking of Dexter, he's panicking cause of all the awful stuff that's going to happen during the school year and also because now he has to go through the nerve-racking ordeal of asking out the girl he likes all over again.
Darling's in hell because everyone and their fairy godmother expect her to be this perfect little damsel, again, which is just- ugh. There are days she wishes she could carry her sword around with her, and they're most days. Also, she never got to talk to Apple about their True Love's CPR, which is just tragic.
The loops go on for a while, some constants in them include: Darling freeing herself and helping little Good-Enough Charming get one of their grandfather's trophies for the scavenger hunt, Dexter and Darling teaming up to kill the changeling and free cousin Charity (sometimes Daring helps but he's content to let his siblings have fun for once), Darling accidentally on purpose flirting with Apple and Apple experiencing several degrees of gay panic, Dexter fumbling asking out Raven for the first time (he's really such a dork, just a funky dude), and the Charming Siblings teaming up to make Milton Grimm's life a living hell.
In one loop they secretly film him playing with his toy unicorns and his action figure of himself and they hijack Blondie's mirrorcast to play it to the entire school.
After several loops a Monster High crossover happens, and so in every loop after that the Charming sibs, who have grown incredibly gremlin-like after experiencing the insanity of the school several dozen times, make sure to drop monster slang when it's just them and Cupid. Like:
Darling: "Wow, Cupid, that top looks clawsome."
Daring: "Totally, it's freaky fierce."
Cupid: "What?!"
Darling: "That top looks nice on you. Anyway, we gotta run."
Dexter: "Yeah, see you later ghoulfriend!"
I have some other half-baked ideas for this one but it'd probably be it's own post.
2. Murdoch Mysteries-ish AU:
This one makes no sense if you've never watched the hit Canadian Detective Show, Murdoch Mysteries. Or maybe it makes some sense, idk. Instead of a modern AU, we have a 1895 detective AU. It's barely an idea, I have no idea if I'd even keep this in the fantasy setting of (an 1895) Ever After or not.
Dexter is the Detective William Murdoch of this AU, the man with no game and beautiful blue eyes who women keep inexplicably falling in love with. He's observant and a little strange but he's also a brilliant detective. One of the major differences though is Dexter is the disowned son of old money parents.
Raven's the Dr. Julia Ogden, the outspoken, independent, and compassionate coroner helping solve cases and being amazing. Her rich, controlling mother doesn't much approve of her life choices but old Mrs. Queen can suck it. Raven and Detective Charming have a clearly mutual attraction but they're both hesitant to act on it cause what's a romance without a good slow-burn.
Hopper's the Constable George Crabtree of this AU. Listen, the everyday George matches Hopper's human side, and writer George matches Hopper's frog side. I will not elaborate, because I really cannot. Just feel the vibes, cause the words aren't coming.
I'm not 100% sure who'd be the Inspector Brackenreid. Part of me kinda wants to make it Professor Badwolf, and then I could make Milton Grimm the asshole commissioner. Coach Gingerbreadman is the Inspector of Station 5, the rivals of Station 4.
Daring is heir to the Charming family fortune. Golden boy, everyone loves him, wants more than anything to be able to talk to his little brother in public, but their parents would disown him as well if he stepped out of line.
Apple is one of Raven's housemates at Sisters boarding house, run by Bella and Brutta Sister. She was once courted by Daring, it was at the point where people were expecting an engagement announcement any day. That's when they suddenly broke it off, with no explanation (the explanation is Daring's in love with another girl and Apple's in love with his sister). Snow White and her husband barely agreed to let her move into the boarding house, I honestly have no clue how Apple managed to pull that off but good for her.
Idk, Darling's a vigilante. She's got the same deductive genius as Dexter, she just doesn't have the same ability to join the police force. Inspector Badwolf is tired of his cops being outdone by the mysterious White Knight (yeah, yeah, I made Darling into Victorian-era Batman). Couldn't the White Knight patrol Station 5's territory? (The answer is no, because Darling really wants to catch a glimpse of her twin and also because Sisters Boarding house is in Station 4's territory and sometimes she likes to secretly crash with her girlfriend).
3. The Destiny Cycle AU (AKA: Ever After High but the Rebel Movement is an actual Rebellion AU):
What it says on the tin. Raven discovers the book is fake before Legacy Day. Her and Dexter, who in this AU is believed to be Ashlynn's future Prince Charming because someone made a good post about the potential dynamics that could cause and I love it, set out to uncover what other secrets those in charge are hiding.
Basically, in this AU Ever After is a dystopia where the Royal Families tied the survival of their dynasties' rule to their stories. Like, magically tied them. The Fates themselves have been bound by the magic of the Destiny Cycle. Ever After's Destiny-bound citizens are forced to repeat the same stories as their ancestors, all because Happily Ever After doesn't include a revolt or the institution of democracy. All stories are repeated as a precaution against anyone figuring out what the ancestors of the Royal Families did.
Taking some inspiration from the SDCC Raven Queen doll's letter from her mother, the Evil Queen discovered the truth about the Destiny Cycle, said "not my kid you bastards", and proceeded to try to break the Cycle's bonds. Her taking over other stories and cursing Wonderland was an attempt to stretch the probability bonds of the Destiny Cycle's magic to the breaking point.
Stuff's gonna go down and basically these kids know time is running out until there's a war, cause the only way to avoid being offered up as a lamb to the slaughter is to overthrow the whole system.
God, I really gotta make this into it's own post as well now. But here's a basic rundown of some stuff I'd include:
Dexter and Raven being young and in love and just all the secret romance feels
Snow White knows about the Destiny Cycle, but Apple absolutely does not know.
Apple being born blonde is a sign that the Evil Queen's schemes loosened the grip of the Destiny Cycle, at least for a moment.
Ashlynn, Hunter, Dexter, and Raven as secret rebel leaders.
The backgrounders will have actual roles dammit! (Looking at you Lawrence Bonecrusher III, aka Orc Boy).
An exploration of artificial Destiny Cycle "True Love" vs. real True Love, featuring Apple, Daring, and Darling.
C.A. Cupid, sent by her godly family to infiltrate Ever After and cure it of the Destiny Cycle, because it's interfering in the domains of the gods.
A unique Monster High crossover idea that I will elaborate on in another post.
These children absolutely end up having to kill someone and it scars them forever.
As for different destinies AUs or Star Wars AUs, I haven't really given them much thought.
I think, in a Star Wars setting (possibly Old Republic?), Raven would be a Jedi padawan descended from a long line of Sith. Instead of Mirror Prison, her mom is dead and her Force Ghost is bound to a giant, mirrorlike piece of kyber crystal. Uh, not 100% sure who her master would be.
Darling would also be a Jedi padawan, and Maid Marian would be her Master. Maid Marian gets into custody battles over this kid with this old Jedi Watchman known only as The White Knight. She'd still have her time-slowing hair flip, in this AU it's just a unique way of activating the Force Slow ability.

🧬 🎢 💎 🌠 🔫 🤣
Ooh yay a whole lot of Legends Qs!
🧬 Who would you like to see a crossover with?
Beyond the rest of the extended Arrowverse? I could see Legends having a fun Doctor Who crossover. With many shenaningans, much confusion about different time travel methods ("Time... stream? Huh, that's a new one on me, after hundreds of years"), and jokes about how Rory Williams reminds the Legends of someone but they just can't think who.
🎢 Favourite storyline
Legends of Tomorrow had storylines? I jest - although those def weren't the reason I watched the show. But I really enjoyed the android-clone Legends plot in the final season (I think it was the final season?) That was peak Legends chaotic weird. And because android Zari is the ultimate Zari and also my perfect woman.
💎 Favourite friendship
Mick and everyone. Mick and Amaya were wonderful. Mick and Ray, comedy duo for the ages. I wanted a lot more of Mick and Zari ("New Girl," beta reader for Mick's novels). Mick and Ava were a weird unexpected treasure later in the show. And of course, the absolute joy that is Mick and Sara - brotp forever. They had their ups and downs but they were family in a way that maybe only Snart ever was for Mick before. Excuse me, I'm off to cry and write Mick Rory fic.
🌠 Favourite episode
Here I Go Again. No Legends episode was ever perfect, but that one came damn close. The scenes between Zari and Nate will live rent-free in my head forever. "Groundhog Day!" "You're stuck in a time loop and we have to stop the ship from exploding?"
🔫 Favourite superpower
The superpowers aren't really what make this show great - some of the most watchable Legends in fight scenes have no powers - but I did enjoy everything they did with John Constantine's magic. If that counts as a superpower.
🤣 Funniest moment
How do you choose?? Any of the seriously weird shit Legends got away with. "Puppets of Tomorrow" and, possibly even weirder, demon puppet Stein. Gorilla Grodd fighting young Obama. Inspiring George Lucas to make Star Wars. Giant Voltron Beebo. "Guest Starring John Noble." Leo making the terrible mistake of trying to get the crew to share their feelings (a lot of the funniest scenes involved puppets). I could go on forever. Damn I miss this show.
Thank you for asking all the great questions!
Legends of Tomorrow asks

Hythia: Born to a noble family as the young lady Lunatara, a now male Jantar (who has gone through years of arcane education) is hired by the High King of the kingdom. Stuck between the fame of the "family" he desperately wants to separate himself from, and the genuine talent in magic he holds, Jantar must survive the life of the royal court as not only war looms ahead, but his family desperately tries to get him back in their clutches.
My Fairy King: The king and queen of the kingdom Neronia could not bear children, so they made a deal with a fairy sorceress for one of her children to masquerade as their own. Now Ink, suddenly thrust into royal life as their "son", must quickly find a bride and settle down before anything happens to his "father". He befriends an unwed girl and her secret lover, and the two engage in a "wedding of friendship" to free the girl from her oppressive family. All the while, the court Jester has his eyes on the young prince, intending to have him for himself. (Might end up nsfw)
A Star Is Chosen: A newly appointed king, clearly inexperienced, appoints his court. During the audition to become the Royal Mage, Cecil fascinates the king by reading his fortune, earning him a spot in the court. With a cunning jester and a rulebook-toting advisor also on the team, this motley crew must make this kingdom the most prestigious in the empire.
Legenda - The Red Ropes: In the afterlife known as Legenda, the god Chaos's power has shocked the world once again, causing "Red Strings of Fate" to appear and connect people. Crest, along with a crew of others seemingly unaffected by this sudden change in the world, must go about and solve the mysteries of who is attached to who, and later who is attached to the mighty queen Flora herself before it's too late.
A Courtly Love Affair - Falling for Every Royal Face In The Place!: This Isekai features Hiroto, a novice stargazer that, when hit by a truck, is transported to a fantastic new world. Entering the audition for a local kingdom's court mage, he finds himself blessed with the power of the stars! Befriending the Prince, The Advisor, The Spymaster, and the Jester (And eventually falling in love with each of them!), Hiroto must navigate the arranged marriage and the princess's plan to topple the kingdom from inside!
Over and Over: Castor finds himself smack-dab in the middle of his own Groundhog Day, the same 24 hours looping over and over again. At first he thinks he's going insane, with nothing he does stopping the looping, until he learns that the court jester also remembers these loops. Together the pair must find the cause of this; a protective spell placed on the King in case of his death that rewinds time so that his lover could save him. With this mystery mage out of the question, Castor and the jester must stop the king's assassination themselves!

stark's mind notes part 5, e21-25
e21
reads a bunch of papers on psychology
feels like his constant stream of detours has a groundhog day vibe to it
may. may think he is actually in a time loop
thinks MAYBE the soldiers will have a map. They don't.
so excited at some backpacks. Might have food or maps! They do not.
makes a complicated quantum mechanics reference and acts like it's everyday knowledge. Where's that one xkcd comic
recognizes that the analogy was a little much
kind of forgot the soldiers were trained to kill because of how bad they are at it
doesn't know where he's going with his trains of thought or Anything but thinks it'll keep him sane to talk about random things
calls an elevator a lift....
"the thing for the thing that uses the thing"
familiar with the fantastic four
proclaims that he's very ditzy right now.
shoots someone without being entirely sure if they're a marine or not.
compares himself to greedo star wars. Complains that this makes him the villain, then walks over his part in the rescas, and decides it's fitting aside from his attempt at redeeming himself
GUNK on his SUIT (misc. fluid) (hates it)
thinks he'd throw up if he had to float in the air again
baffled at his first instinct with building is to use alien corpses and not barrels, with how he hates the gunk. Concludes he's unhinged at the moment.
"powerful... power!"
his HEV suit is not a faraday cage
jokes around about roleplaying as maintenance/pest control
makes a cowboy movie cliche reference
whispers to himself when sneaking around some marines. Diagetic? Is he actually talking? The eternal question.
e22
pretty sure the military has a nuclear bomb on hand and that Would be a worse outcome
decides he can attack from a blind spot and that'll make killing however many HECU there are will be easier
gets louder once he's below them
plotting so hard about peak murder efficiency
delighted at his murder efficiency
not sure why Black Mesa leaves barrels lying around
sending the marines explosives in the elevator
reasons that the aliens are confined to Black Mesa as otherwise the military would be in higher priority targets
elevator plot failed :(
"hey it's me gordon freeman" he says to the marines he's about to kill
still SO rude to the marines
OH I FORGOT HE SAID THIS. admits outright if it weren't for the regular distractions and looming threat the military provided, it's very likely he would've killed himself a while ago
now equates his reason for living with saving other lives
finds the "free man" title tacky
yells at the guard insisting Stark leave him behind. Wants to save his life so badly
not happy to give in to that request.
too stubborn to stop fighting
being close to the flamethrower output is painful
a bit dizzy after killing the gargantuan. Collapses for a moment
does outright say "yeah" when asked if he's Freeman
actually his Freeman impression here is decent other than referring some guard to the dying one
clutching onto the rocket desperately as a source of hope
e23
thinks string theory is impossible to rationalize
has only been to sectors A, C and D.
Mumbles discourteous things about Black Mesa under his breath
claims he can deal with his ambitions being crushed
thinks the military probably knows Black Mesa's layout better than he does right now
familiar with game theory
seems to believe in Zero Sum, which posits that all benefit creates an equal loss somewhere else. In essence, there is a finite amount of good fortune to go around that can never be added to, only redistributed
the railcart runs at 20kph
faux-flippant about a button doing jack shit to help his situation
does not want to know what it's like to be a battery
knows where circuit breakers are meant to go
would rather not swim through corpses. Given reason: it's unhygienic
"black mesa, where the automatic functions are fine, but the malfunctions are finer"
starting to enjoy shooting things. Compares it to taking a nice drive.
used to be GREAT at track and field. Adequate at shot put.
reclaims a sense of dignity by killing a vortigaunt
only now questioning why the aliens are here
wishes he had someone who knew their way around
hopes Dr. Vance is doing alright. Thinks Dr. Kleiner can handle himself. Says this in a kind of hesitant way.
puzzles out what killed some marine and then berates himself for doing that
NOT a chess player
e24
thinks chess as a metaphor for military strategy is a bit stupid
considers himself stupidly lucky
upside to having an alien infected area: none! but amends that. They aren't actively trying to stop him from firing the rocket and attack the military
could leave some marine behind but reasons that he needs to kill the guy before said guy can kill him, even when he's got a safe distance and multiple corners
decides he'll kill every marine he sees from now on.
would accept the marines if one of them tried to help him now, but he'd resent them anyways.
cannot push a crate suspended in midair by a chain. It doesn't Budge.
worried about an ambush in a seemingly safe location
compliments some headcrabs for killing a marine in an ambush. "Super sneaky" makes a return
says there's no use crying over spilled blood
familiar with Alien
"score one for mindless lever-pulling"
paranoid now! He says. He has blatantly been paranoid for ages
type zero? Not sure what he means with this classification system.
blows up some soldiers thinking they were something else. Doesn't mind.
rapidly growing fond of his railcart
plans briefly to let infighting thin the horde, then decides that nah he'll do it himself
immediately takes a sonic blast to the ears
alien kids these days...
sees some corpses, apologizes to them, tells them he's going to sit with them for a minute. Presumably keeps looking at them while he's down there
e25
Desc: he's having issues keeping up with things around him
doesn't know why he's talking to a dead body
considers himself in debt to the entire world. Anything less than fixing literally everything is treason in his mind
in so much pain. May be internally bleeding
appreciates the suit. It's still good as new, or lightly used.
lamarkian evolution,, ah i guess it's evolution to resist existing threats to survival? Stark talks like it's evolving immunity to bullets
jokes about a corpse and then immediately rolls it back, saying that history would not look kindly upon his doing that. babygirl no one is watching you
the military is playing music over the VOX.
Stark questions if it's real or not. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" btw. He suspects they're trying something
his arms are shaky and a tad weak
surprised at the music over the VOX right now. It doesn't sound like something the military would like
wishes he could smoke right now
bothered by the idea of bugs on his suit. INCREDIBLY bothered
"and I'm a pacifist" uh bud "or at least a passive aggressive domestic terrorist who knows he has to protect himself with lethal force" these are DIFFERENT THINGS pal and you've never struck me as a pacifist
doesn't want to eat from the rail line food stop. Knows he SHOULD but just. Doesn't.
tonal whiplash of triumphant swell of music at the time he finds a body confuses him badly
familiar with the twilight zone
hesitates to enter the woman's washroom
can barely yell right now
doesn't want companions right now
willy wonka song,, imagination or w/e it was called
checks a locker for CDs of music he likes
he doesn't remember names of his coworkers anymore unless they were close to him or assholes
not able to deal with shotgun recoil right now
hates how roundabout navigating Black Mesa is
needs to rest, but refuses to. He has to launch the rocket. Hes running entirely on adrenaline
knows once he reaches the point where his body gives out on him, all the ceaseless violence won't stop
questions his sanity
he's clearly making some kind of reference here but i don't get it

* Does this one actually count as a movie? Feel like it's a bit of a stretch, but it does say "The Movie" right there in the title xD And it's ME, I feel like my list would be incomplete if I didn't include something starring my fave fire boi lol! ** What?! Frozen II on the list, but not the original Frozen?! That's right, it IS possible for one of a person's utmost fave characters of all time to be in a movie they thought was only okay xD Don't get me wrong, I do like Frozen, it just didn't make the cut for this list! Frozen II on the other hand came out in theaters at a time when I only had to pay $15/mo for unlimited movie tickets and I loved it so much, I was seeing it 2 or 3 times a week x'D *** I know rules didn't say to point this out, but I feel like I had to do it anyway: Utmost. Fave. Movie. Of. All. Time. RDJ and Val Kilmer in a comedic whodunit? Movie gold! Watch it. It's good!
Okay, now to tag people! Remember this is just for fun, absolutely no pressure to actually do this, only if you want to! Tagging: @basiliskonline @daughterofkyne @astranovus64 and to anyone else reading this who thinks creating a list of your fave movies sounds fun, I tag you as well! :D

Stevie, you know what's coming, do you have fic recs for Daniel and Jack?
I'm always open to new ships and one as old as those two must have a lot of good ones written :)
Tumblr media
YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE LOLOLOLOL I HAVE SHIPPED JACK/DANIEL FOR OVER A DECADE aight SO
this is my favourite jack/daniel fic yes it's smut but it just [chef's kiss] hits all the right buttons, ya know? paian in general is perhaps just my favourite author in the tag and a lot of their stuff is highly rated for a reason
the down side is some of the best fics are episode related! but it means that you'd know which episodes to watch lol. unless, have you seen any of SG1? because if you have, that will make this so much easier.
because like. in the show, there's angst, there's bickering, there's kidnapping and rescue missions, bodyswapping, torture, mind control, there's clones, sometimes you become a caveman, sometimes you get superpowers, sometimes you join a secret society and piss off your friends because you didn't tell them it was as a double agent, there's character deaths, there's resurrections, there's a big ol' "no homo" in episode 200 that everyone crops the frame to make it about the fucking ship anyway because FUCK IT.
paian's off-world "we're having sex but is it okay that i love you" fic
you ever see groundhog's day?
literally please watch the show if you haven't this one is based on a two-episode special where daniel gets kidnapped and tortured and jack - who has been promoted to a desk job and could very well make someone else do it - goes to save him
paian again but this time it's a sex party masquerade and jack gets possessive
here's an example of a fic that's not episode related but has a bit of angst, a bit of "aliens made them do it," a bit of the fact that jack is a military man during a time of "don't ask, don't tell," and has their dialogue and characterization to a T.
the thing is, most of my fic recs would just be at the top of the list if you sort it by kudos on ao3 anyway lol. because a lot of the fic writers came to ao3 from livejournal and dreamwidth anyway.
if you want, i can even make an episode rec list oh god you could watch the movie but you honestly don't have to. the budget of the show started on showtime, then went to Sci-Fi (now SyFy), and then got more budget and better CGI dude like. 10 seasons for the core show, 5 seasons of a spinoff that has some good cameos, and then there's one season of SG-Universe...
i will always say, between star trek and star wars, i choose stargate. every time. i fuckin... i watched it as a child, rewatched it as an adult, would rewatch it now if i had the time... (honestly i might just rewatch it again)
IF ASIDE FROM ALL OF THIS you want fic that includes both spoilers and a bunch of references that i would have to explain, i could do that to lol lmk

I'm really out of movie critic hcs for Artem so I i wanna ask on who, do you think, are his favorite directors? hehe njfhfhf I kinda feel he would be into Guillermo del Toro's work and maybe Christopher Nolan's. I just know he has good taste.
hi!!!!!
oh goodness i'm not too well read on directors, but i know enough to have TAKES. first of all, agreed with you. artem has nolan dad energy. he'd fit right in with all of the other middle aged dads going in to watch christopher nolan's latest war related think piece
another funny thing about artem is his fondness for romance movies. hell, his favorite movie (about time) is a romantic comedy that doesn't even have amazing reviews or anything (in terms of time wonky romantic comedies, i like groundhog day better!), so i do think he'd probably not rly care about public opinion of directors when making up his mind. which! keep it up you funky little movie critic.
there's also his love of sci fi ... which never :) gets :) mentioned :) anymore :) and i think he would Not like jj abrams. for the sole fact that he's the only guy who managed to piss off both star trek fans AND star wars fans HAHAHA

Coming Attractions!
Yes, I'm aware it's Tuesday not Monday but shhhhh XD
Just a quick one this month. Not even going to split it up by fandom as I usually do, just kinda blitz through.
So I ended up...essentially taking January off from writing, apart from a scattered few sentences here and there. Which on the one hand was probably good for me but on the other hand I'm behind on projects lol. Ah well.
Priorities for this month: 1. SWBB I'm picking up the project I had to step away from last year. Anakin was not found at age nine and never became a Jedi; we're handwaving that TPM ended roughly the same way anyway because Padme and Obi-Wan are very good at what they do and one of the other pilots got lucky on the droid control ship. Fast-forward to like a year and a half/two years into the Clone Wars, Ahsoka ends up briefly stranded on a planet that's neutral mostly because it's a black market hub. They click pretty quickly, hang out for a while, stumble into a Separatist plot to test a chemical weapon and blame a limnic eruption for the deaths, and Deal With It. Hondo and Bo-Katan are briefly involved because I said so XD 2. P&J We're getting to the part where Ari actually finds stuff out, lol. Getting to Europe and talking with other researchers, etc. There's some interesting stuff in Marseille, and Calais is important. And Ari and Phil continue to be cute in the background. 3. The Other Battlestar Baltar ends up on Pegasus; there's a bunch of stuff built up around the two OCs who fill the plotholes he left behind...I need to get more text down in general, lol. And also figure out how I want to structure it? Like...I do need to establish the new people (including a few on Pegasus, like the senior medical officer, a marine officer, there will also be a Four who gets pulled from the civilian fleet...) and also clarify why Baltar ends up in a different position (and why Helo doesn't because he and Athena still need to meet). And it would probably make the most sense to just go linearly and handle all the miniseries exposition in order. But then again would that actually be Interesting; or would it be better to pick up later and jump back and forth in time...yeah, you see my problem lol. 4. Acheron Javert Groundhog Day fic; looping the last 36ish hours of his life. (from right before he heads to the barricade to his death). 5. Maybe get back into Precipice or write some origfic if I have time/brain.
Longer-range projects: 1. Percussive Maintenance is still hanging out in my head, so I'm tentatively planning on that for GBB (aka the one where the at least two concussions Sam gets during Downloaded unlock Enough of his memories) 2. Or maybe I'll jump back to The Blood of Angry Men, we'll see. (aka a Zarek character study; looking back on his life (and the allies/friends/tools that he's led to their deaths) from the night before his execution) 3. What I'm definitely not doing is any of the crossovers floating around in my head; either the Star Wars ones or the WoT ones. (the one I talked about the other night; and a fusion is actually sort of building in my head because of course it is. Mostly because of the Kara-as-Mat thing I pinged onto the other night; but also Baltar would be an interesting Logain; possibly Zarek as Taim? I think I'd leave Rand as Rand and just fill in the roles around him. Lee also lines up really well with Perrin...and since this would derail pretty early on I feel a little more Flexible about love interests/etc. lol. For reasons of Tuon, Moiraine, and Lan, mostly. Also Faile. Also I'd still want Caprica as a sul'dam, I think, but Logain doesn't have a canon love interest IIRC sooooo that's easier to sort out XD ...although now that I think about it, Athena as Nynaeve and Helo as Lan could work...) 4. Incinctus/other Castlevania things. 5. I'm doing pod_together again once signups open. I need to refine my fandoms list, haha. Not that I haven't had interesting times the last couple years, but it'd be nice to get matched based on something that Isn't a very secondary/tertiary fandom for me again. 6. AtLA may come floating back into my head enough to pick up some of the projects I wandered away from there, we'll see.
Not writing, strictly speaking, but there's some admin/modding stuff for this year's GBB that I should get a move on, especially since the event is moving to May-October, plus helping out with SWBB the way I do every year.
...yeah, that's pretty much where things stand. Hopefully I'll hit a nice groove this month!
What about you guys, what are you working on?

im not reading ur smut, why would I? I’m not into reading smut for minor characters it’s gross, plus even if you age up the characters it’s still weird as fuck. Imagine saying “oh yeah im writing smut for a 16yr old girl but i aged her up so it’s okay !!”
ps it’s not the same person, many people just understandable what type of freak you are <3
Okay, then. I will believe you, you are multiple persons. But why going anon, then? I'm sorry if you are multiple people, but this is the only time I will refer to the subject, because my posture would be the same. My arguments are all in here, so if you are one of the people who didn't send an ask regarding this, feel free to skip this post. There are some nice links in the end for donating, so you can scroll down too if you want.
First, you say you are not reading what I post. Fine, then why are you here? I doubt it's my charming personality or the baby animal's pictures I post on my spare time… Oh, right, I don't. So, that's weird to me..
I don't think I show up in the tags a lot, but what are you even doing scrolling the smut tags of the show if you think reading or writing for aged up characters is so weird? You can't have your cake and eat it too, you know? It's either you are a weirdo like me or you are actually accepting to suspend your disbelief and believe I don't write for minors.
But we still have another option, you just approach people who write smut for the series and tell them off. You do you, but it seems like a waste of time to me. If you are serious about protecting minors, even fictional ones, there are more things you could do to help. (I'll leave you links at the end of this post)
Even if you don't suspend your disbelief, there is a severe flaw in your argument. You are commiting a logical error called "personal incredulity" or at least I hope that is the name in english. Basically you are saying my posture can't be right because you don't agree with it.
Also, calling me a freak is an ad hominem fallacy (I am wrong because I am x, y, or z, not because my argument is flawed) and pointing out "many people understand" is a flawed defense too. It is another logical error called appeal to popularity.
But why are we arguing logic over a work of fiction? We can argue fiction too! And no, I am not going the suspension of disbelief route, which is an important part of storytelling in general, but I bet you are already familiar with that argument if you enjoy harassing people over this, so I am making a new point.
We are going to talk about my favorite topic. Perception of time in literature. You know why shows and movies like Russian Doll, Dark, Happy Death Day are so popular? Because they use time in creative ways. But don't think this is new, you can find this kind of stuff in books too. Perception of time is a recurring topic in fiction, from time travelers to groundhog day. Time can be circular, like in A Hundred Years of Solitude, time can be skipped, like in The House of Spirits, where they tell us the whole story of family Trueba from 1810 and forward, picking about 3 characters to do so. By the logic I can't just say the characters are aged up, Garcia Marquez can't just say time works different in Macondo, Isabel Allende can't just do time skips in her books omitting generations. And in no way I am comparing what I do to them, like, not at all. But if we decide we can limit how time works in fiction, then we would have to erase many works.
You are probably thinking, fine, time skips can be a thing even if they don't show us the whole thing. But it doesn't work like that in this show! They are minors! My answer is: Why should I not tweak the source material when I write until it fits me? Fanfics are as old as time and so is modifying the source material. I'm not talking about Harry Potter (Great example on aging character up and down until it fits the writer's criteria) or Star Wars. I mean classical Greece. The surviving plays all take the gods as characters, assigning them traits they might not even have and that vary from writer to writer. Think: The Iliad versus The Odyssey. Both presumed to be from the same author, but differ in their portrayals of Athena. Moving forwards, the whole renaissance is a retake on Greek and Roman ideals. You know what they did? Retellings of myths, painting of classical Greek stories, speculating about philosophy and ways of living.
Let's go modern: Jorge Luis Borges, The house of Asterion. This short story is a retelling of the minotaur myth, from his point of view. Makes for a delicious, witty read, I am sure you would enjoy it. Borges is from the Latin American Boom generation, so think sixties or seventies at the most. He takes liberties. Like, so many. For example, the labyrinth is not a labyrinth, is a house. The minotaur gets a name, Asterion. He is not a prisoner, he stays inside because he hates people. Teseus kills him anyways.
Let's go even more modern: Romantic retellings of children's books. I know, scandalous, especially considering they are taking characters that are minors and they age them up and make them have sex. Oh, I think I might faint. A good example is Red Run or Wendy Darling, just so you know I am not making this up. Worse still, they are so bad with warnings, they have even left them at primary schools by mistake. And worse, sometimes they don't age up the characters.
I'll setle for this. You know how time works in fiction now, and I am sure other people writing this kind of stuff have told you all about suspension of disbelief. You know now I am not the first, and people even make money out of this kind of stuff. There. I said my piece. You know my posture and I know yours. I respect your right not to interact with content that may be upsetting or triggering to you. I respect everyone rights to it, actually, that is why I'm obnoxious about warnings and only having sfw stuff about the read more. You can block me now and not see anything I post.
Links to actually help exploited or vulnerable minors
Psicologos x Chile → You can volunteer or donate in this link, they focus on mental health with a special division for minors
Para la confianza → You can donate here to fight sexual abuse against minors, in different forms. You can choose between paying legal representation for minors so they can get the perpetrators in jail, pay for psychological help for victims, or interventions at schools.
Maria Ayuda → You can donate or volunteer. This is a network of christian houses for abused or exploited minors, including teen moms. Their job is wonderful, because they assist until years after childbirth, no questions asked. They provide housing, nannies and even education if necessary, besides paying for the healthcare. I am not pro life but if pro life people were all like this, the world would be a better place.
Amnistia Internacional → They fight for human rights all over the world. I volunteered here and it was pretty cool, you can also donate. They focus in vulnerable population like children and women, but also on activists and people of all kinds.
Tremendas → They fight for girl's rights, intending to reduce the breach of women in STEM in latin america. They promote education for girls and teenagers.
UNICEF -> You can donate or volunteer here, they are the United Nations organ in charge of promoting minor's rights.
I don't know many international ones, but if you do, you can drop them in the replies.

18 and 20 for the writer ask game. 👁️👁️
Looking at me. Watching me. Staring. Menacingly.
18: Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?
You are talking to the author of such classics as "Lena's Groundhog Day". It's not the biggest thing on my mind if you know what I mean.
I've written or am working on a total of six stories. Two of them have homage titles ("Groundhog Day" and "Quack to the Future"), two are the titles of albums (the OMAM series), one is an actually decent title albeit ungoogleable ("Dream(s)", also the name of several songs), and one takes the Marvel / Star Wars route of calling it the name of the main character ("La Flecha Roja"). So a mixed bag. Not the best in terms of output but hey it gets the job done. You wanna know what something is? It's [thing] with ducks.
20: Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
Characters sigh all the dang time. And they're always waking up at the beginning of stuff.
As for themes, I main Team Magic, and their big deal is just the multiple kinds of bonds they all have with each other. Somebody in my inbox pointed out how each paring in the trio has a different kind (familial, romantic, platonic) which is just mucho cool and I love writing them as equal connections. It means a lot to me.
Writing style… I really dig dialogue. I'm not great at writing action scenes. Every time I do one, it's short and quick to the point. I put a lot more emphasis on what the characters are saying and thinking, because that will inform what they're doing or will do or have already done. I live for the character moments, not so much the fight scenes. When I'm reading, I have a bad habit of skimming through action scenes or descriptors, and I'm really sorry about that. But I imagine what I'm reading to be a real episode or TV movie, so highlighting the dialogue in my brain will keep it moving along if that makes sense.
Thanks for the ask!

Story is Change
One rule of thumb for a good story is that things must change. A character arc is change of character through what they experience during the story. A plot arc is change in situation through what events take place during the story. Etc. etc.
To understand why change, or progress, is needed... imagine a story with no progress. Luke stays on Tatooine in Star Wars. Neo takes the blue pill in The Matrix. Everything stays awesome in the Lego Movie. Phil's day doesn't repeat in Groundhog Day.
Tumblr media
Even in a story where the point is "nothing changes," often the character tries to change things... and has this revelation that things cannot be changed, by the end. The change in that story is, the character knows something new.
Or, they finally manage to change things, in which case... things change obviously.
If truly nothing changes there is no story. Because...
Story is assimilated change.
What does that mean?
As readers, when we're given new information we have to understand that information and fit it into the story so far—we have to "assimilate" it. To work it into the understanding of the story in our heads. And through assimilating it, the story in our heads—our understanding of the narrative—changes.
When watching a film, if the main character walks along a corridor with blank white walls, that's discarded as unimportant. It doesn't change anything about the story.
If as they continue through the corridor the walls start showing a wallpaper with what looks like faces in the design... that change makes us sit up and pay attention.
Paint drying isn't interesting. A wall of faces is!
This idea of "change" carries through to lower levels of the writing itself...
Let's start at the bottom and work our way to the top.
The more any part of the writing does, the more potent it is.
...And therefore, the more change it can affect in the reader's understanding of the narrative.
This even applies to the Words themselves.
Tumblr media
Say it's raining. You could write: "Rain fell from the sky." Accurate, but not a lot of meaning apart from the obvious.
Or you could write: "Rain lashed down." The word "lashed" gives the impression of how hard it's raining, and that it's raining. That adds more to the scene, and your understanding of the situation in the story changes.
And then "Rain beat down" implies how it feels to be in that rain. Like it's pummeling you from above. You keep your head down as you walk through it. That kind of thing. And again, the reader's vision of this story, the tone of the scene, how the character feels... changes even more—just from one word being different.
And the less it does for the story, the less it needs to be there for the story to be understood.
If it's not adding to the story, it shouldn't be there. Because it won't be added to the story in the reader's mind.
In a scene, if the reader starts off having an idea of what will happen in the scene, and it just happens... the story has not changed. The reader could have skipped that scene entirely and not missed anything. In which case, the writer should skip telling it.
Or, of course, the writer can change the scene so that something meaningful does happen.
Tumblr media
That doesn't necessarily mean the plot has to progress in every moment; scenes where a couple of characters just sit and chat are just as valuable as action scenes, if done right. The key is that the story changes—as in, the story in the reader's head is changed by the narrative they are reading.
This is why drama can be just as enjoyable as more flashy genres. Even if the plot doesn't move, for a time... if we learn something new about the characters, or their relationships, the plot is understood differently from the new context. Understanding why someone does a thing changes the story around that thing happening.
Before we had that understanding, we had a different view of the characters and what they were going through. Seeing the world and events through their eyes with this new context changes how we see what came before and what comes after, and as we assimilate that new understanding, the story changes.
Tumblr media
A sentence can give new context that ripples back through the rest of the reader's version of the story, changing lots of things in one fell swoop.
A single sentence can tear apart the reader's understanding of an entire story! This is very jarring for the reader, and can undermine their experience entirely if done without care, or by accident.
The story in the reader's head was torn open, and now none of the story makes sense. It's left a hole... a plot hole!
...Unless that tear instantly repaired by all the clues and hints being laid along the way that this was coming! In which case, the reader's version of the story is torn apart, which is still jarring. But it is restitched in a new form all in an instant--a huge amount of change focussed into a moment. This is a plot twist!
It's often said that a good plot twist must be "surprising, yet inevitable." But why is that? Because of how "Story is assimilated change."
When you see the twist before it happens, it's less satisfying. Why? Because the story you had in your head already had that guessed context. So not much changed when it happened. You didn't need to "assimilate" so much.
When you don't see the plot twist coming, it's very satisfying. Why? Because the story in your head does change—a lot! We have to work harder to "assimilate" that new context into the story that was already in our heads. And that process is fun! It's like reliving the entire story over again, seeing everything as if for the first time.
There are other aspects of #story to explore. It's fascinating how they all tie back to a couple of core principles...
