Okay, but why did every High Lord bring one, maybe two companions to the meeting, while Rhysand and Feyre invited all of their pals and extended family? And allowed them to speak as if any of them has any real experience on ruling a court or actual authority to do so? That was so fucking wild. And the other High Lords just, accepted it? Out of fear? You’re telling me that six fucking High Lords couldn’t put Rhysand in his place, when it is canon that Tamlin alone can rival him?
And they all willingly helped bring Rhysand back? You’re telling me no one thought that “Hey, maybe we’re better off without him!”? Even though he was evil personified and a fucking pain in everyone’s ass? Aren’t the High Lords supposedly cunning and selfish? Was no one afraid that he might come back with a sliver of their power like Feyre did? Not even a knife to my throat could convince me to help resurrect that winged rat. I’d throw a ball celebrating his death the moment I got back in my court.

Actually I think Kalias and Vivienne trying for a child immediately despite the tremendous grief of the twenty four (!!) sets of parents who lost children because of Rhysand Amarantha's other secret daemati- is justified.
They're a young fae couple, and Kalias has not been High Lord for very long if what we can gather from the limited information in the text is true. He's now coming into his full powers in a Court that is thoroughly demoralized and shredded - except that he had Vivienne.
Vivienne, the heroine of Winter, who managed to safeguard one single town from Amarantha.
Imagine that - a young High Lord, his heroic new bride. They lead their people through an invasion, and at last - at LONG, long last - they have peace. What can they do to show their Court that life will go on after all that theyve suffered?
They bring a new life into Winter. A child, an heir: Proof that the line will continue, that hope will spring eternal.

we’re really not fine at all
a NSFW Kallias x Eris (Kaleris) fanfic written for day 7 of @sjmromanceweek
Summary:
The terms of the curse are impossible. Their fate is set in the surrounding stone. Without access to their power, they are bound to the bleak monotony of life Under the Mountain. Still, even in the darkest of times, Eris and Kallias find solace in an unexpected friendship which blooms into something greater. These are the hours that give them the strength to keep fighting; that help Eris make it through innumberable days stuck powerless beneath his father's thumb, and that remind Kallias his heart is not purely ice but that it beats fiercely for Viviane and he needs to keep going and make it back to her somehow. These are the hours they steal to survive.
[please check the AO3 tags and the additional content warnings in the notes before reading. This isn't a typical valentine's fic.]
Read on AO3 (7k words). Enjoy the excerpt below.*
— — —
It had been thirty-eight years since Eris Vanserra had seen sunlight streaming down through jewel-toned leaves as he ran with his hounds surrounding him; thirty-eight years since he’d left this once sacred, now cursed place and breathed air which wasn’t stale or smelling of damp stone and bitter despondency. Of course that usual stench was currently overlaid by those of dancing bodies, flowing wine, roasted meats, and sour desperation.
Every night a banquet; every banquet a farce. It was a petty distraction they threw themselves into, grasping for a few hours where their captivity in this godsforsaken place might be forgotten. Everything was dull and worn: the same faces, the same music, the same thrice recycled conversations.
He never imagined he’d reach this point but Eris had, on several recent occasions, caught himself wondering what it might be like to be mortal. With hardly any magic warming his veins he may as well have been.
They all knew that Tamlin would not break the curse, the terms were impossible from the outset. Seven times seven years would come and go. The deadline was arbitrary. Nothing would change—nothing could, not with their magic stripped by that bitch who called herself ‘queen.’
With so little of consequence to occupy his time, Eris had spent the better part of the last three and a half decades trying to come up with a solution. The library down here was pitiable, censored, full of everything unhelpful and nothing of the opposite. His search was futile, but it helped the hours pass.
Cauldron, was this truly the eternity he was sentenced to?

High Lord Power Engine Theory
i’ve been curious for a while about how the high lord power really works within prythian and i have some thoughts, specifically on how it will affect lucien (all this is just my theory and not at all claiming to be accurate)...
what do we already know about the high lord power:
it’s passed onto the most powerful fae in the court
it’s always been passed onto male high fae
it usually stays within a family, but it’s not a guarantee
the current high lord has always* died before the power has moved onto the successor (inference based on a limited number of known high lords in history)
it’s not always inherited power since high lady feyre was made into one
to obtain the power you would swear vows (as seen from feyre in acomaf)
fae can smell the heir to the high lord seat even before they come into their power (acomaf ch 22)
so these points have made me come to the conclusion that the power of a high lord is tied to the court they serve. why is this significant? because that means it’s not as randomly selected as we thought and it doesn’t necessarily mean a high lord must die for a new one to rise.
if the power of the high lord is tied to the court they serve, the land itself chooses the high lord they want, then prythian is almost sentient. the magic that created the court boundaries selects the fae they want to rule. there’s a lot to unpack with that alone and the implications that only high fae male seem to be the only ones who are considered for power when we know there have been extremely powerful fae women (and possibly lesser fae) who have been overlooked. however that may be a topic for another time. the one thing i wanted to touch on is high lord succession and the rules surrounding who would inherit the power.
we assume that the current high lord of a territory would need to die in order for their power to pass onto their heir, but what if that’s not true? if the high lord power is granted by the boundary spell of the courts then couldn’t it be taken away as well?  if a high lord were to abandon their territory wouldn’t they no longer be high lord and that power not just move onto the next all powerful fae in their territory?
let’s take a look at the spring court for instance:
tamlin’s power is out of his control
his subjects have fled and become refugees of other courts
the only thing keeping his boundary lines intact is him not leaving the spring borders / patrolling in his beast form
he skipped calanmai when it was a time for the high lord to rejuvenate his power back into his land with the great rite during acomaf and for all intents and purposes there’s no indication he has taken part in the great rite since acotar (and timeline wise that’s been over 3 years give or take a few months).
so looking at how spring is falling apart it may not just be the seeds planted by feyre or tamlin’s own depression/trauma, but the land itself rebelling against the current high lord. now if that’s the case then could it not stand to reason that the spring court is looking to the most powerful fae in their territory to “elect” as their new high lord? and within the walls of spring, before the fall, who would have been the most powerful fae apart from tamlin? i would press lucien to that claim myself.
lucien is born from helion and lady autumn. lady autumn herself was coveted by beron for her power and that of her bloodline of powerful fire users. helion was found to be powerful enough to become high lord of day. so lucien’s lineage is extremely impressive. we also know he’s showing hints about his own high lord power when he managed to calm cassian down from his mate instincts telling him to kill with the power behind a single word alone (acosf ch 7). some people are interpreting this moment as a hint that helion’s power may be fading and he’s slipping into his twilight years or something, but we have seen no hints that helion’s power is not what it used to be. however, we have been given quite a few hints that tamlin is not as strong as he once was. that both rhys and lucien have been working for about a year to try and bring tamlin back to himself without success. even nesta had alluded to the fact that the spring court may not belong to tamlin any longer (acosf ch 43).
i think it’s possible that the spring court is rescinding its power from tamlin and looking for their next high lord and i think that high lord is lucien. he pledged his loyalty to spring when tamlin took him in after escaping from autumn. he has proven to be working for the good of the people and spent 50 years under amarantha’s rule helping those left in spring and protecting their borders from threats. he put efforts into rebuilding spring after amarantha was killed. lucien took over tamlin’s duty and performed the great rite during calanmai acting as the high lord. i think the evidence is mounting in favor of tamlin basically being forced to abdicate and lucien to succeed to power. unless tamlin finds some sort of redemption where he wants to live and not just survive from day to day then i don’t see him retaining high lord status.
what’s the implication of what this could mean for the power engine of high lords?
a high lord isn’t just a random all powerful male, but could be specifically chosen by the magic of the territory
this also means that the magic of the territory could take the high lord magic from those who are no longer acting in the best interest of their territory
a current high lord wouldn’t have to die for a new one to obtain power
it also implies that anyone can’t just take vows to get the high lord power, but would need to be deemed worthy by the magic (feyre earned her power and it wasn’t just given to her by being mated to rhys)
now how might this affect the possibility of the high king coming to fruition? well i think it would be similar to how feyre took vows and became high lady. but instead of just the night court deeming her worthy to be granted high lady power it would be the entirety of prythian to deem someone worthy enough to hold the title of high king, or queen, to rule them all.
now again this is all conjecture your honor based on circumstantial evidence. but i also think it may be a pretty decent theory on how this whole high lord magic thing works so whatever.

A Court of Wings and Ruin, chapter twelve:
Feyre remembering what she knows about the Winter Court
I ran through every lesson Rhys had taught me about the Winter Court and its High Lord, Kallias. Towering, exquisite palaces, full of roaring hearths and bedecked in evergreens. Carved sleighs were the court’s preferred method of transportation, hauled by velvet-antlered reindeer whose splayed hooves were ideal for the ice and snow. Their forces were well trained, but they often relied on the great, white bears that stalked the realm for any unwanted visitors.
Doesn't the Winter Court sound so amazing? Like a winter wonderland come to life.

Okay so, this is my fancast for the males of ACOTAR. Be nice, english is not my first launguage.
Disclaimer: Some are not even actors but fit how I imagined the characters.
Tamlin, first off: I imagine Tamlin as a gentle and pretty young looking man but also brooding. This is pianist Dario Lessing, unfortunatly not a fiddleplayer.. I highly recommend his music though.
Tumblr media
Lucian, I really don’t want to justify this. I’ll just alway try to fancast Robert Sheehan in everything. Smash.
Tumblr media
Eris: This is Broadway dancer Niklas Palmqvist. Imagine the Eris-Nesta dance-scene (!!!)
Tumblr media
High lord of the Autumn Court, as daddy no but secretly yes please, Domnhall Gleeson. Yes. I did. I would have cast him as Feyra, because he’s good in everything but this is more fitting I GUESS.
Tumblr media
OFF TO THE WINTER COURT with Mr Freddie Fox as the High Lord of Winter:
Tumblr media
Tarquin, Mr Sweet Summer, the High Lord of the Summer Court, I feel this in the warm winds of june. Michael Ward.
Tumblr media
He who needs no others introduction HELION, STOP, NO I’M RIGHT! Regé my bebé.
Tumblr media
The King of Highburn, Frenemie of Amarantha. He who was weighted and measured and found wanting.
Tumblr media
The first two Batboys… this was so hard to fancast in a way that hasn’t been done to death. Don’t come for me, my opinion can’t hurt you.
AZRIEL OR CASSIAN COULD BE PLAYED BY (examples below)
Maxim?!
Tumblr media
Or Rafi??
Tumblr media
Or maybe Jassa Ahluwalia….?!?! (Not pictured)
RHYSAND THOUGH?????
-
Umh.
Yeah I’ve got nothing sorry babes.

I’m still on my ACOTAR kick, to be honest. I started writing this last night even though I should have been finishing prompts. So have some Virane doing her best. Under the cut because there are spoilers for the series.
The silence was almost as deafening as it was heavy if it weren’t for the constant thump of his boots against the cool, marble floor. Each smack almost made me flinch, the sharp and cold sound only emphasizing his frustration as he paced, one hand resting behind his back and the other gripping his chin in thought. I said nothing as I watched carefully, leaning against the back of a dining chair in the dining room. Normally things were discussed in his study or the council room where many members of his court—including myself—would often meet to discuss updates on our people and the land. But the news had come in the middle of our dinner when word had reached us in the private dining room—the one reserved for only family members or the closest court members.
Kallias quickly turned on his heel as he whipped around, looking at me with cold blue eyes. “I have changed my mind.”
“Again?” I asked as Viviane frowned at him but kept quiet as she continued to sit at the table. He scoffed as he turned, gazing into the hearth behind him, the light dancing across his face as he spoke.
“This can’t stand.”
“I’m sure—”
“Our borders have been breached once before—”
“Almost breached.” I corrected and he threw me another icy look. Viviane shifted in her seat as she watched, but I just sighed as I straightened, gripping the chair as I placed my hand on my hip. “And that means nothing—”
“We can’t allow it, Virane.” Kallias snapped. “Not even an ounce of weakness—”
“We are not weak.” I replied firmly. “They came close to the border, Kallias. But they did not cross. If they had, I would have—”
Kallias sighed and shook his head. “I know.” A few more minutes passed before he finally continued, his voice strained from the truth behind them. “That…is not the breach I was referring to.” It was as if I had been shoved into one of our ice-covered lakes the way my body went cold and rigid. My grip tightened on the chair, making the wood groan as I remembered the screaming, the blood, and the destruction. So much death… “We have lost so much…to risk losing more…”
I licked my lips as I weighed my words, choosing them carefully. “Beron’s sons ran back from whatever resistance they had met on that ice. Blood was spilled, ice was cracked, and some was melted, it looked like a fight. Whatever conflict it was had nothing to do with us. I don’t believe we’re in danger of our borders being breached from the south, but I can station more bears down there, or perhaps relocate a few wild ones, introduce them to new burrows for better defense…”
“No, I don’t wish to disturb the natural order of things. We’re finally recovering, I don’t wish to hinder the progress.” Kallias finally turned back from the fire and walked, standing behind his chair at the head of the table with both of his hands clasped behind his back. “I’ve heard that there was a shadowsinger in the Autumn Court.” His blue eyes found mine once more and I frowned.
“So is this more out of fear of what they might do, not Autumn?” Kallias considered for a moment, glancing at his mate—my sister—and watched her subtle flinch before he decided to respond.
“After what happened Under the Mountain…with what happened to our younglings,” his gaze found mine as he clenched his jaw. “Rhysand is responsible for that. And he wants us to trust him? For this meeting and when not only was his cousin just north of us, but his spymaster was rumored to be in those woods. How am I not to be suspicious? How can I not be cautious? I would be foolish to turn a blind eye.”
“Rumors can be lies, my love.” Viviane chimed in. “Are we to go on those alone?”
“While its odd for two members of the Night Court to be so close to our borders in a short amount of time, I think perhaps we should reconsider turning down Rhysand’s invitation.” Viviane and I glanced at each other before I continued. “We…Viv and I didn’t see Rhysand during that attack, Kallias. Not before…” I trailed off, feeling it unnecessary to finish the sentence either because I couldn’t bear the thought of speaking of it or to spare my sister from it. But I could feel the scars on my abdomen as if they were fresh, and I quickly continued. “I think this is a very fragile—”
“They need to answer for the things that they have done, Virane. Regardless of any ties with his cousin.”
My jaw clenched as my own frustration came to the surface at the mention of Mor, but I kept it in check. He wasn’t my brother-in-law in this moment, he was my High Lord, and I needed to do my job as his emissary. “If it’s a battle you wish for, Kallias, then say it. If that is the course of action you wish to take. But if it came to that…please know that I couldn’t take on Cassian, the Night Court general is above my skill level, and I’m sure you’re aware that our bears can’t exactly fish for enemies in the skies.” Kallias scowled at me, and I sighed before continuing. “Rhysand lied for us, Kallias. He lied to her when he dug through my mind and saw the things that I spoke of were false. He helped keep Viviane safe.”
My sister glanced at her mate as she rose, her silver and blue gown brushing the ground as she fingered the fur along her neckline. “Perhaps…perhaps we go to hear them out. They deserve that at the very least, for us to allow them to explain.”
“Or for Rhysand to lie.”
“And we can be the judge of that.” I offered. “I have spies that have heard things from those that have come from the Spring Court, Kallias. There are Hybern forces gathering. We can’t afford to go up against both the Night Court and Hybern, if the reports are even close to being true.”
Kallias sighed as he leaned against his chair, his eyes falling on the table but not seeing it or the food that remained from dinner. The silence stretched some more as he thought our words over and I took the chance to glance at my sister. I knew that he did everything to keep her from the clutches of his court for so long, keeping her on border patrol to do so, but even as she sat there, she did well in keeping a brave face. Viviane was worried for all of us—the court and her family—but also worried for the strenuous relationship we’ve had with the Night Court since everything that happened. She wasn’t alone in wanting to salvage it, wanting to do what we could to keep our friendship with Mor alive and well, but even as I thought of that, a flash of hazel eyes came to mind paired with dark shadows and I blinked, quickly clearing the thought away as I fought of the blush. There was no use in revisiting an old crush.
A sigh brought my attention back to the High Lord as he spoke. “Tamlin…why would he allow that to happen?”
“Rumors are just rumors, of course, but if they are to be believed…his human was the center of it.”
“She’s High Fae now, isn’t she?” Viv whispered as she glanced between us, and I shrugged.
“She is now, yes. But there was that whole mess with her being stolen away, only for her to return and leave again. Who knows what happened, I always believed Tamlin to be more beast than anything anyway. Horrid manners.”
“A threat to the north and a threat to the south…” Kallias murmured, not giving a thought to what I had just said.
I kept myself from rolling my eyes as I sat down in the chair, popping a grape in my mouth. “We go to the meeting, and we can gauge the playing field then. Ask them what their intentions are, determine whether or not they’re believable, and move on from there. Assuming, of course, the Spring High Lord shows up at all. He strikes me as someone that takes rejection terribly, that male is too proud.”
