The past few days have been awfully chaotic and things were starting to look grim for both sides - Shinigami and Quincy.

But it didn't start like that. At first there were a few encounters here and there. A little bickering, that soon escalated to full on fights. Then, deaths were happening here and there, which led to the last few months.

Everyone was tense in Seireitei not only because of the fallen comrades and injured, but because of the threat received.

In a few days a war with the Quincy would begin. Here you were taking the most recent report to your captain - Shihoin Chika - about the last failed mission.

Despite being the vice captain and Chika's partner, you always knocked on the door before entering.

It was mostly to keep the order in unit 2, your relationship wasn't a secret or anything, but keeping up the hierarchy of the thing helped your fellow comrades to respect each other and not believe in favorites.

As you knocked on the door and identified yourself, you heard a very tired sigh and a come in. You entered the room to see Chika pinching the bridge of his nose, he already knew it wasn't good news.

You sighed and waved the papers in front of him. He gestured for you to read it.

By the time you were done, he was just staring at you in silence. You knew this silence meant a bit of grievance, but also anger and frustration.

Chika got up from his seat and walked towards you:

" Y/N… can you gather everyone? It would be best to give them a heads up now."

You nodded and asked:

" Are you ok?"

He had stopped very close to you, so close he had to look down to see your eyes:

" …. You? "

You had no answer for him. He smiled at you and patted your head:

" hang in there Y/N, this mess will be over soon"

With that, he left. You went on to do what you were asked to do. You gather unit 2 to deliver the news of the most recent failure. It was mostly to prepare everyone that a cremation ceremony would begin soon.

Even though your captain was mostly playful, somewhat annoying and a tad bit arrogant, he cared for the unit.

After the gathering was done, you left your comrades to grieve on their own. But the message of being careful was given, after all, the Quincy said in two more days a war would begin.

You and Chika left for your quarters as well. It was terribly quiet between the two of you. Soon enough, your act as vice captain and that tough air around you crumbled down and you began to sob.

You heard a sigh. You cowered a bit and soon enough you had arms around:

" hey, Y/N…. "

Was all he said. He soon started to pat your head gently with one arm while the other held you tight.

After a little a while you began to calm down and you could feel Chika trembling a bit. So you slowly and slightly got away from his embrace to caress his cheek.

He leaned into your touch and smiled. His stupid grin was always so charming, even now:

"Y/N, you should rest a bit. "

You smiled:

" So should you"

His grin grew a little wider as he leaned close to you:

" the one with puffy eyes is you"

You hit his chest playfully:

" you are horrible for saying that now, you know?"

His expression changed, his eyebrows were furrowed and stared at you for a short time before falling on his back while still holding you.

You let out a little squeak, finding yourself on top of him and trying to get up. He was holding you lightly:

"Can't have my vice captain and lovely partner sad, can I? "

You melted at his words and on top of him. He just giggled at you, but you could feel him tense.

On the next day the preparations for war started. Every unit getting ready into place, the walls being each guarded, the captains and vice captains going around shouting commands and checking the foot soldiers.

Suddenly all that movement came to a halt when you heard an explosion and a blue pillar rose in the sky.

So they were here a day earlier. You were with half of the unit and Chika was with the others in another area.

The area wasn't particularly big to cover, but there was distance between you. Which didn't matter, like I said before you were not a vice captain for nothing. You were strong.

Soon the battle began with the Quincy. They were too fast for a few soldiers so you tried your best to keep everyone alive and with high spirits. You could feel Chika's spiritual pressure, for sure he was kicking some ass.

The battle went on and so far, it was your upper hand. Until a general from the Quincy appeared.

It was a slender woman with long black hair. She decimated half of the unit that was with you.

Now, things got interesting! She was very strong with her sword and bow. You noticed most of your attacks didn't do much, she has some kind of rough skin.

So you summoned your bankai. Things got a bit easier from there, now you could hurt her enough to cut an arm out. But you both were pretty much equal in power and soon enough you were tired.

At the moment you summoned your bankai Chika grinned on his end. He knew you got this. He knew. But a bad feeling was looming around him.

As he took Quincy after Quincy this bad feeling only grew, and tried to ignore it. He accomplished it when a general came for him.

Although the Quincy was powerful enough to obliterate a lot of Shinigami, Chika had the upper hand. When his battle was almost over he felt your spiritual pressure get very very weak. He panicked.

You could never tell from his expression - a serious face, but quite emotionless. He finished off that general as fast as he could.

Suddenly the dreading realization he got quite a bit away from you made his neutral expression crumble.

He went through the battlefield lashing whoever got on his way. Now he was a captain, but he did get tired and hurt too.

Chika has several injuries, not only from the battle but also from the race to get to you. Slowly, your presence was fading more and more.

When he finally got to where you should be, he found only the traces of a battle - blood and bodies everywhere. He scanned the area after you.

Until, he pinpointed your zanpakuto. It was broken in half, but it was a hint of where you were right?

He soon found you. You were still breathing, but badly hurt - your left leg was gone and you had arrow marks on your shoulders and right chest.

Chika rushed to your side not sure if he should move you or not:

" Y/N! Y/N! Stay with me!"

You opened your eyes as much as you could. Breathing was so hard, you could hear a strange noise too every time you took a breath.

" Y/N! Stay with me! Hey! "

He was now holding your face. Your vision was so blurry you could barely see him, yet you smiled:

" Hey captain… how are things going?"

You heard a huff and a hand caressing your cheek:

" Stay quiet. Save your energy, but stay awake. Here with me"

You shook your head:

" you s… should be paying… attention. Don't… give your back to them"

His voice now was reduced to a whisper:

" there are no enemies here"

You still shook your head:

" not now… besides they… need you"

You tried looking in the direction of the noises you heard. Your husband was not interested on that:

" I am staying with you, so be quiet… please."

You grabbed one of his hands that were holding your face:

" Chika? I am sorry, I… I can't…"

You wanted to say you can't feel anything anymore, but at that moment you felt raindrops and a slightly trembled voice:

" Why are you apologizing? I am the one who should be. I left you…"

You noticed it wasn't rain. He was crying:

" I… am glad… you… trusted …me"

You really were. The trust he had on your skill gave you so much confidence, but more then just confidence it was like a very big i love you and i know you will be back.

Your words took a little giggle out of him. But your words were getting too far from each other. The terrifying feeling of seeing your life slipping through was overwhelming, he leaned his forehead on yours and whispered:

" Y/N? I really, really love you"

You smiled, but your vision was already black, his voice sounded like it was miles and miles away:

" m-...too"

He kissed your forehead as you took the last breath. Chika stared at your face that still had a smile on it. He wanted to scream, but instead he closed your eyes and carried your lifeless body to a corner:

" I will come for you later… I am so sorry, Y/N"

After that he went on a rampage. The battle as whole took a whole day, but it felt like an eternity to him.

When all Quincy were gone, when a but of order was recovered, it was time to for the ceremony to cremate the fallen.

On your turn, he silently apologized to you again. Swore to protect what you fought so hard to keep safe. Seeing your peaceful face going on a raging flame was painful - it was like losing a piece of him.

As years passed, Chika didn't change much, he was still playful, slightly annoying, but a tad bit less arrogant and a little glint on his eyes were gone.

When he started training his nephew and niece. Whenever they raised questions about why Chika had no successor, he would just ruffle their hair. He refused to answer that simple question.

He would answer things about you, he was proud he was once married to you! He so did talk about you.

That is how the successors of the Shihoin came to know about you. He didn't go easy on anyone that looked down on you or told him to move on.

The reason why he lashed out about " moving forward" was because if it wasn't you, no one would be.

It had to be you and you only, to stand by him side by side. It didn't matter what the clan thought or what they wanted and nothing could change Chika's mind.

The correct meaning of best friend in Korean

The most common way to say best friend in Korean is 베프 (bepeu) but there are others way to say “best friend which is 가장 친한 친구 [ga-jang chin-han chin-gu] and 절친 [jeol-chin].

It’s also possible to use the Konglish expression 베스트 프렌드 [be-seu-teu-peu-ren-deu] which means best friend.

When you know someonebut not friends yet, you can address them as 아는 사람 (aneun saram) means “a person I know”

It is similar to the english word “an acquaintance”

Unlike english, In Korea you can refer someone as friend iif you are close with and you both are of same age (donggab/동갑).

When to add ‘-ah’ after someone’s name

If your friend is same age or younger than you , you can say their name in Korean add “ah/아” or “yah /야” to the end of the name.

If their name ends at consonant , add 아 at the end of their name

If their name ends at vowel add “yah /야” at the end of their name

However, if your friend is older than you, you need to address them different title like noons, huyng,unni and oppa in Korean

So the Korean words below can be used to address your older “friend” in if you’re speaking to your female or male friend like this

If you are a male and A male who is older than you-형 (hyeong)

If you are a male and A female who is older than you- 누나 (nuna)

If you are a female and A male who is older than you- 오빠 (oppa)
