Life's Pleasures (S.R.)

MASTERLIST

Spencer was a creature of habit more than he was of comfort. Call it superstition or autistic tendencies, even the slightest alteration to his routine could have catastrophic results.

Unsurprisingly, three months in prison did little to help him with those feelings. In fact, they made them much worse.

Despite the best efforts of yourself and the entire BAU, there was no question that Spencer needed help. Thanks very much to each of you, however, he had finally felt okay adding a small capsule to his daily routine.

It was nothing he was ashamed of. Unfortunately, however, that magical little concoction of neurotransmitters had a few… unintended side effects. He hadn’t said anything about it yet, but you had watched his favorite clothing got tighter until he couldn’t bear to wear it anymore.

You were acutely aware of how sensitive he would be with such a dramatic change. So, that Sunday, when you see Spencer padding out in his favorite pair of Saturday-specific sweats, you try to be kind.

“Hey handsome!” you call.

He is caught off guard enough to smile.

“What did I do to deserve you in sweats on a Sunday?”

His smile falls just as quickly. His bashfulness turns into a sadness that feels all-encompassing.

“My pants don’t fit,” he mutters as he toys with the drawstring.

“Lucky me,” you joke.

Spencer doesn’t respond like you’d hoped. In fact, he doesn’t react at all. He just stays staring at the string that is shorter than normal. He doesn’t even notice that you’re approaching him until your palms are pressed against his cheeks.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” you whisper.

He winces.

“I just…”

You give him a small reassuring smile and it stirs something in him. Some small shift out of his self-preservation instinct and back into the comfort of your embrace.

“I know I’m getting older, and stress does a lot of damage, and that can always manifest as weight gain,” he rambles.

He leaves out the medicated nature of it all, but you don’t bother to correct him. You just listen as he continues.

“But my body’s never been like this. It’s never changed like this, even during puberty,” he scoffs.

You chuckle at the sound and the image conjured up from faded scrapbook pictures.

Spencer smiles too—just for a second—before he remembers that he is sad.

“It’s just… it’s happening so… fast,” he says like a whimper.

After a moment, you shrug. He seems almost offended by the motion until you explain.

“That’s okay, Spencer,” you whisper, “It’s okay if you have a hard time adjusting to change.”

His shoulders fall as he releases a shaky breath. Relief starts to creep back into his body, despite his fingers still twiddling with the string.

You look down at it and laugh because it is so much like how he used to be. A little bit better, even.

“You just need to remind yourself that… They’re good changes,” you insist as your hands fall and glide around his waist. It’s soft and pliant and reminds you of the peace you find when you lay in bed together.  You remember the smile he wore the first day he woke up without fearing the sound of a buzzer. You think about how he doesn’t seem afraid of his phone anymore.

When you look back up at him, your eyes linger on the subtle curve of his lips before they settle on teary eyes.

“You’re finally taking care of yourself the way you deserve, so things are going to look different,” you whisper before pulling him closer. You sway with his body, still perfectly him despite not looking exactly the same.  “And for what it’s worth, I happen to think you look wonderful.”

Spencer drops the string to hold you, instead. He chuckles, a soft and bashful noise that reminds you of the first time you met.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” he sighs in defeat.

To console him, you provide another simple offering.

“Sweatpants, donuts, coffee full of sugar and syrup,” you hum, “I don’t know about you, but… I can get used to a life like that.”

“They’re nice, but…” he trails off. His body pulls away so that he can see that loving look in your eyes. The last bit of tension releases from weary muscles. Spencer gently rests his palm against your cheek. It’s warm and soft and exactly like it used to be before the scars.

“Of all of life’s pleasures,” he wonders aloud, “I still think you’re my favorite.”

You quickly note the conditional word.

“You think?”

This time when he smiles, it is brilliant and not at all bashful.

“Donuts are pretty good,” he jokes.

It’s such a beautiful sound that you don’t even have to wonder.

“You’re better,” you mumble against still-sweet lips.

And it only gets better from there.

A man of actions, he hides his worries behind smiles and continues to do what he can to support the forest and Leja. He is very excited to meet you, if not at least marginally confused over your problems, and eager to ease your burdens.

AFTER SO LONG, THEIR REF IS DONE. my take at sun and moon :]

Lil silly hcs of em I have below..

Moondrop

- moon is 7'9, a little bit taller and lankier than sun due to his flexible and athletic ability as a security retrieval unit bot. Hence the claws, sharp teeth and speed, he's meant to retrieve any rogue animatronic (ex. Freddy or monty) that is out of its station. Or any intruder that unfortunately enters the place Compared to sun who doesn't have that programming (or did, it's now deactivated but can still be triggered slightly)

- he's overly hyper around kids and those he's comfortable around. But when it's other staff members or people, moon will tend to calm down if not just not acknowledge you. The mans like a cat, he will not care about you unless your his favorite

-doesn't really smile at anyone but those he cares about. You will always see this guy scowling or just bored, don't take it personally. He just simply doesn't care about anyone but his own babygirls and kids.

-moon will curse, absolutely all the damn time. Sun hates it. Poe LOVEs it. Sun beats them up cause he's a bad influence to hope about it.

-he loves crawling on the walls like a lil freak to Jumpscare anyone. Particularly craig. It doesn't work on hope tho.

-moon is incredibly attached to craig and his sister, he sees him like a small child to take care of and coddles him to PLS rest cause he never does (even if Craig is 25). But essentially he imprinted himself like a guardian figure to craig, at least that's how moon sees it. Craig still thinks he's a annoying freak (affectionate)

- his temper is rather short, it doesn't seem like it in hindsight but you can get on moon's badside very quickly.

-he tend to loaf around like a cat and bend in ways when he flops asleep anywhere. Sometimes he curls around sun, hope or craig like a cage as a protective habit. It becomes hard to untangle him tho.

-his clothes and body can glow in the dark as a comfort for children! However sometimes his mouth can glow too and that's just for him to be a lil cheshire cat asshole to scare people HFKDK

-both of moons eyes were originally white like sun's however side effects of the virus still lingered slightly even after his new body was built so they seemed to have stuck to those colors.

- Craig built his new body! Using old schematics and new ones he made himself with moon's preferences to finally help him out of the faulty virus with sun. It took quite a bit to help adjust to his new body. His hands and face are made of a soft silicone padding to be safe for children and his claws can hide like a cat's (he's just a cat really JFKFK)

-moon actually has somr canes for when he needed help to use his body. He technically still uses them whenever his limbs feel too tired or overexherted from certain actions

-moon uses solar power in the daytime to charge.

Sunrise

- sunny is 7'5", still pretty tall but not as much as moon who is basically freddy sized.

- his model was upgraded to be similar to moon after craig built them a new body to help fix any left over potential errors in their programming.

- before he called himself sundrop as a mix with moon's name when they shared a single body. Now that they're separate his original name continues as sunrise once again. Though he prefer sunny, Mr sun, and sundrop (only by moon and poe).

-despite being the sun animatronic, sun is very gentle and calm compared to moon. He of course has the same zoomy moments as moon. But they're a little toned down sometimes to help with any children who have overstimulation issues (moon has a similar concept but he's insane cause of his security program at night) he's very motherly in nature and tends to be overly sweet to even naughty kids to try to coax them out of their attitude to avoid banning them (he doesn't like doing that. Except for Gregory fuck that kid HRKDKD)

- sun also has claws and sharp teeth (old security program from moon) but he never uses them and prefers not to. If he's VERY upset, then perhaps they'll activate like a tick but he hates them. His claws are all battered and chewed up from anxiety trauma from moon's virus and no matter how much craig replaces them sun does it again so he gave up on it.

-sun has chewing and some harmful Stims to himself that he can't help but do when he's stressed. Moon and poe try to calm him out of it as best they can by keeping him company when he's alone or giving him stim toys when he's taking care of children. The bell on his neck was given to him by poe for that! (The one for moon also as a complimentary to sun :])

-sun is clingy, hates to be alone and tends to always be around moon or poe. He HATES being along and it scares him after the long years of not being able to interact with moon out of fear of that virus they had. It got him very bad and he just can't be by himself anymore without moon alongside him or poe to talk to. (They don't mind they love being clingy with each other)

-when moon got his body, sun essentially gave him physical therapy to help moon adjust to moving.

-sun loves putting stickers on everything. His face, on moon, on the kids or poe. If you see stickers everywhere its not just the kids it's sun's love language UFKDKk.

-sun patrols the late afternoon of the plex before night time just to be sure there are no lost children (or adults,,,) after the place has closed.

- He's not quite used to leaving the daycare and there was a time before moon got his body where sun had an intense agoraphobia to leave, afraid he might hurt others if the lights went out and he wasn't locked in the daycare to avoid hurting anyone. Poe helped him out of this fear afterward

-sun loved making art and bouncing around. His favorite thing to do is origami you'll see many little origami animals of certain fellas he works with as a cute love language. He'll also always be ontop of poe or clinging on moon, when he's not he's busy cleaning and being a cute lil gay sunshine boy.

- sun also loves singing. He doesn't have a music box like moon but he tends to hum and sing on his own (from his old theater programming) and you'll see him reenacting some musicals while cleaning in the most dramatic way with his broom or the toys around the daycare. Sometimes moon will dance around with him and try to sing and poe would too (reluctantly)

-he loves cuddling with moon and poe in a pile in his room full of pillows and plushies.

-like moon, sun is very attached to hope and her brother. Particularly the young child as he's very protective and guilt ridden from the incident he had with her thr first night she came to the daycare where moon accidentally hurt her as the lights went out. Theyll never forgive themselves for that, even if hope doesn't mind. But he's always around the little kid and thinks of her as his own, and sometimes hope has slipped "dad" at sun which has made the sun attendant malfunction incredibly in the best way. But he'll always play with her anything she wants and keep her company with moon since hope doesn't like socializing with other kids.

-if you curse he'll actually throw you. And sun is INCREDIBLY strong.

-sun uses moonlight to charge himself in the night time!

Would A Trubbish Be A Good Pet?

Remember the other day when I called venomoths “living, breathing biohazards”? Well, I probably should have held onto that title for trubbishes, everyone’s favorite literal living, breathing biohazards. As much as it may sadden those who, like myself, see a little charm in these little stinky monsters, keeping a trubbish as a pet would be a truly disastrous idea.

I always thought that trubbishes were simply creatures that resembled trash bags. My dismay at discovering how wrong I was hit me about as hard as the stink of walking within twelve feet of one of these pokémon. Trubbishes are, in fact, literally trash bags which have been given life through the power of toxic industrial waste (White, Shield). Are they radioactive? Maybe. It probably depends on the individual. I can tell you this much, though: anything that has been in contact with toxic waste powerful enough to create life is not something to cuddle. Goodness gracious, please do not cuddle a trubbish!

Trubbishes feed on garbage, which on first examination may be a great thing (Black2/White2, Moon). However, much like in the case of Alolan grimers, trubbishes don’t eliminate trash without creating a dangerous byproduct: as a result of consuming garbage, trubbishes generate a toxic gas that they release into the air by belching (Black, Moon). This gas, if inhaled, is enough to send an adult into a week-long coma (Black) requiring a hospital visit (Moon). If inhaled by a young person or pokémon, however, this gas can be lethal (Ultra Moon). It is not a good idea to bring a trubbish into an enclosed, indoor space.

Sure, if you keep your trubbish outdoors and avoid breathing in this gas, you may be able to avoid being sent into a coma by spending time with your little buddy. There’s an unfortunate side effect to keeping a trubbish outdoors too: the stench of their gas attracts other poisonous and toxic pokémon. In the Alola region, trubbishes are known to attract the deadly Alolan variants of grimer and muk (Sun, Ultra Sun), while in Galar their gas attract the region’s variant of weezing (Shield). If a trubbish alone isn’t poisonous enough, they’re likely to attract other poisonous pokémon in your area right to your home. Outdoors or indoors, trubbishes are a lose-lose situation.

They may not be a particularly violent species, but trubbishes can be pretty formidable if they need to attack. They have a truly startling barrage of moves that can induce poisoning, both through physical contact with toxic materials with moves like Toxic Spikes or Gunk Shot and through the inhalation of poison gas with moves like Belch. Again, like I said, living, breathing biohazard.

Look, I know trubbishes are kinda cute, in their own trash-goblin way. They’re really friendly with humans too, as they have adapted the instinct to know that we are the best sources of their food around (Black2/White2). Unfortunately, they are simply too dangerous for anyone to keep as a pet, unless you’re willing to live your life in a hazmat suit while putting all of your neighbors at risk. All of this analysis is pretty mute though, for one reason: I think a lot of people won’t want a trubbish as a pet because they are stinky. Very stinky. You won’t be a very popular person if you share your home with a sentient trash bag.

Holy fuck Johnshi history nerds scratches my brain so damn much i NEED to hear what types of history they delve into

I unfortunately don't know too much about Kenshi but my guy just gives the vibes of knowing the historical events and people that coincide with the Heroes and The Last Stand album by Sabaton (like the Battle of Shiroyama, Bull Allen, all that lovely stuff)

Johnny however is definitely a movie nerd. Whether it comes to the movies plots, how they're made, the special effects, actors or any of that it feels like he's research them to hell and just ramble to Kenshi while the two were watching said movies (especially if they're watching a movie that Johnny himself is in)

And I will gladly tell you. These two have so much information in their brains, they rival a library. And Johnny will 100% research every bit he could on a film just to tell Kenshi. They end up not even watching, just Johnny spewing facts.

Ok now what nerds they are:

☯︎ Johnny does have extensive knowledge on films, he has so many books of film history. He knows the evolution of the camera and how each works, the different eras (German expressionism, Solviet Montage, French cinema), about matte paintings, the introduction of horror. He loves film history.

He also loves cultural history, such as Sento and the Taira Clan. He loves reading into different counties and digging into bits of historical records that most don’t know about. He loves ancient Asia, loves reading about the origins of martial arts, about wars and weapons. But also clothing, food, entertainment, social status.

Johnny lives for art history.

☯︎ Kenshi is a psychohistory nerd. He loves to ask “why” likes to try and figure out what caused this action or behavior in history. Such as why WW1 veterans where treated as if they were crazy instead of being provided help with the ptsd.

He also knows a little too much about medicine history. He unsettles himself with the knowledge that he has. But he eats it up. History of the Lobotomy, disturbing, but that doesn’t stop him. One that he finds funny is “female hysteria cures” because how did some write this down with a straight face? Especially the ancient Greeks and their belief that the womb was a separate being and it would kill a woman if she didn’t have children.

Kenshi’s secret history is fashion and the evolution in each country. Japan is obviously his favorite.

☯︎ Before Kenshi was blinded he’s read everything, owned so many books. Now, he can read with Sento, but last time he did that his ancestors smacked up side the head with their spirit form. He had a very colorful conversation with them about it when he meditated.

Now that he’s with Johnny, he has the actor read to him. Hands him a book that he know he likes and Johnny will read it without hesitation. Although the medical history books make his question things, which in turn makes Kenshi smile when he hears Johnny’s little “what the fuck?”s And “huh?”s.

Quick Summary: Curious and a constant day dreamer at heart. Despite their quietness, Tuna is happy to jump in to help, especially so if the it seems like something interesting. Often off doing their own thing, they aren't fond of crowds and try hard to avoid group speaking. However they'd speak up or take leadership if truly necessary.

APPEARANCE

Hair is natural gray with blue dyed tips, styled short in length. Overall body type is rectangular and flat, they have a slightly lean build with strong thighs and forearms. Kinda short, but height isn't anything they care for on themselves. Prescription glasses that only come off if Tuna is exercising or have lost them LOL. Has a few piercings; belly button piercing, dimple piercings, 0g Gauges, helix on right ear, and extra lobe piercing above gauges. Overall Fashion tends to be comfy/ baggy clothes with no design on them OR color coded outfits. Has an interest in big/ chunky shoes and mary janes.

PERSONALITY + BACKGROUND

Tuna is originally a non-magical human from the Shaftlands. Unfortunately curiosity got the best of them and while watching a big magic fight they got caught in the middle of things. This ended in them getting cursed! What's the curse? They turn into a catfish if strong magic is used near or at them. (Did they turn into one while overblots were happening? yes. Were they confused? absolutely) On the bright side for some reason they can use a magic now!

With the new discovery of magic their family sent Tuna off to NRC to hopefully let them learn how to make the most of things! They end up in Octavinelle dorm. Sexuality and identity wise, Tuna is asexual and nonbinary, they/them are preferred pronouns!

Personality wise Tuna is often seen aloof, but don't let that scare you off! They actually just are really bad at talking and opt to listen rather than talk. This also leads to them having few close friends and tending to go off and do things on their own. They can be a bit stubborn, but are easy to coax into doing things if you have the right reasoning or reward for them.

Academically, they've got good grades. However harder subjects like math tend to drop as they refuse to do work outside of class. If they can't finish the homework in class they're doing it at lunch or in between classes to avoid doing it during their free time.

In their free time Tuna likes to go adventuring, seeing animals in nature, hopping around trails, or just wandering the school grounds accompanied by their fav tunes. At night though they like to practice tumbling and flips. Outside of these they do art or listen to music.

ABILITIES

UM- Curiosity Killed the Cat! "I simply can't help myself! It's a matter of need, a matter of greed! Fulfil my Curiosity! Curiosity killed the cat!" -This unique magic allows Tuna to cast a veil over themselves and others within their touch to become undetectable! -It provides a stealth buff and hearing buff, allowing the users sounds to be muted and for other surrounding people to be easier to hone in and listen to. -This spell is hefty and excessive use (from using for too long or just too often) can cause major blot and other side effects. -side effects include: other senses become slightly weaker, ears may ring or be sensitive to loud noises, phantom noises/ lingering noises -Strong magic users with high spatial awareness may be able to see through this UM if they happen to look directly at the caster. Fishy Beginnings - Insight into just how Tuna received their curse and how they figured out the details into how to activate the curse as well as their own unique magic!

Fast Learner- They're quick to adapt and learn new things. A sort of jack of all trades, but never really excelling above and beyond in anything.

Strength + Flexiblity + Tolerance- Not super strong, but not exactly weak. They can get to a stand-off with Floyd (as long as he isn't out for blood) and lift most their classmates.

Extremely flexible and double jointed. They also have a high pain tolerance and tend not to realize when they get injured or are sick.

Rook & Tuna: They sometimes share the same brain cell. They are classmates and Rook is one of Tunas fav people. Tuna loves hearing Rooks rambles and follows him around sometimes when he is stalking looking out for other students. Tuna is very curious and Rooks habits only fuels their curiosity.

Kalim & Tuna: Best friends. Their hyper happy go lucky natures bounce off of each other to create the ultra sunshine pair. This duo can be very irresponsible and can get caught up in their excitement. At the end of the day though, Tuna will make sure to protect Kalim from harm!

Floyd & Tuna: Tuna has a big fat platonic crush. They're tend to let themself be lax and free when with Floyd. They hangout a lot and will cause a commotion more often then not, whether it be from playing around or from butting heads. Floyd hasn't realized Tunas feelings... or has he?

Izumi being Toph’s daughter could be the reason for her glasses.

No, really.

Okay just follow my crazy for a moment.

No one in Zuko’s family wears glasses, right? And Mai throws knives which requires sharp eyesight to do accurately. So why does Izumi have vision problems?

Let’s consider what probably caused Toph’s blindness. She says she was born blind, so we know it’s congenital. Her eyes appear opaque which sounds like cataracts. Toph mostly likely has congenital catatacts.

Predispositions to congenital cataracts do run in families. If Izumi inherited this condition, she would need immediate surgery to save her sight. Delaying surgery results in the eye never developing properly due to missing out on sunlight, which still results in blindness. But if Izumi’s was caught earlier, they could’ve surgically removed the cataract.

It may sound too advanced but there have been rudimentary catarcter surgies in India since 5th century BC. In ATLA they could even use bending to improve the prognosis!

If all goes well, the only long lasting side effect would be the need for corrective lenses.

This is a very interesting theory, but I believe that Izumi is Mai's daughter. She and Mai are practically look like the same person. She also resembles her grandmother.

Unfortunately I don’t know much about  hereditary eye problems, (but if happens that someone who reads it knows some factual information about it and can give some links I would be very grateful.)

I don't consider the comics and LOK to be a canon (in fact, you're talking to someone who doesn’t even consider the atla third book to be completely canon because of some terrible writing decisions or how the writers treated some of the characters in the third book, especially Zuko , Iroh and Aang, lol🤓). I like to think about LOK as of some sort of AU. And in general, I have almost no doubt that Toph and Zuko actually have a common child in LOK. Like, just look at Lin. She looks like someone from the FN. Her facial expressions, movements, her stubborn, strong personality. Do I at least doubt that Lin is Zuko's daughter? No, for me this is the canon. It's possible that Toph and Zuko got together around the time he and Mai had broken up for a while, or it's even more likely that Zuko widowed and after that he could have got into a long-term relationship with Toph. I don't want to think about Zuko being a widower, or that Mai died - I adore Mai, she's my best girl, my second favorite female ATLA character after Toph. And I LOVE maiko. But we know that in LOK Sokka died early, and Aang died quite early, so anything is possible. But, in any case, Zuko and Toph could have had a long relationship, nothing in LOK contradicts that version. As I recall, Toph mentioned that Lin's father's name was Kanto. Imagine: Zuko secretly dating a woman who doesn't want to be drawn into FN court undercover games, so he sends her love letters and sign them as "Kanto", and there is someone who reads these letters to Toph. God, I love that.

However, Izumi is definitely Mai's daughter.

Wyll + the Bitchest Bitch to ever Bitch out of the Bitch Plane of Existence SFW Headcanons

So I kept thinking Wyll was crashing my game whenever I talked to him after I rejected him at his dance cutscene. Turns out I just needed to power click x until whatever cutscene was supposed to play was skipped. Now I have Wyll back!

Also fuck Mizora. I hate Mizora. I really wish she would get the fuck out of my camp.

Wyll really likes to spar and just practice with wooden rapiers. No stakes, no life or death, just dueling with someone who he is closed to. He loves to teach the kids because it reminds him of that and when they are a bit older then the tiefling children were, he does like to duel the same way.

When he does spar with kids under less horrible circumstances he will play the roll of a big bad villain rather then the Mighty Blade of Frontiers. Of course let them skewer him in the end. Letting them learn and get the feeling of victory.

It feels like passing down lessons the way his father did to him. Wyll truly misses his father and spending time with him more than anything in the world.

If you offered to spar with him he would jump to his feet and he is so excited. He has an extra bit of showmanship, playing the role of a villain who wishes to steal a kiss. He may beat you, just so he may plunder his nefarious rewards.... if he may.

He likes to buy things for the party. His love language is gift and he gifts a lot when you all get back to Baldur's Gate. The shopping trip with Karlach and Astarion happens with Wyll and you if it happens because Wyll wants to buy everyone stuff.

It's a shame the money is pooled/managed by you but please let him take the lead it will make him so happy for this. When he does get money that is solely his he does spend it on everyone else(and fancy wines for himself but shush)

When things have fully calmed down, things have started to be rebuilt and Wyll is allowed to ask for a favor from his father. That favor being gold so he can treat you like the prince(ss) you are.

He will buy you anything you ask. Literally anything. He may also buy something nice for himself.

Before he could buy you things, he liked to bring you small trinkets and flowers he found. He would also buy some of the wines from the kids at Last Light to both encourage their business skills(especially with Rolan being an asshole) and to share with you for later.

He really likes to share his wine with you. It is one of his favorite things to bond with you once you get closer.

Wyll would love to carry you bridal style but unfortunately for our 8 strength friend that is not a realistic possibility on it's own. However Wyll is no strange to using extra forces to cover blind spots, and so he will drink a potion of giant strength to be able to whisk you away.

Now well Wyll is the sweetest man in the world he sometimes does have to deal with the fact he is a devil now. Well he himself has not changes, he may have some new habits he isn't expecting.

it is never anything bad of course. He gets things like wanting to rub his scent on you much like a cat, brushing his nose into your shoulder and giving you a small kiss. Bringing you a fresh blood, cute things he wouldn't have done before.

Also some slightly more territorial things than he would ever do normally... such as pulling you just a tiny bit closer to him. He doesn't even realize he doing it because he isn't a super jealous guy.

Oh he may also have other side effects of being a devil but that is for the NSFW headcanons.

Mizora constantly loves to try and give Wyll horrible, horrible relationship advice. When she is bothering you at camp she will just go to Wyll and tell him he should do things that count as devil courting rituals but to most humans are just attempts at murder.

Wyll of course ignores her and tries to get her to leave him alone, doesn't happen of course it is fucking Mizora. Out of spite he starts going over to court you in the most gentlemanly way possible, not listening to her advice at all.

Mizora also tries to give you unsolicited on what Wyll likes... and of course tries to sew any doubts she can about your relationship. Of course it is best to ignore her and if you can, give Wyll all the positive attention you can.

Mizora will also pop in or have some fiendish force pop up just fuck with any date Wyll may take you on. Perhaps a waiter spills soup in your lap because something tripped him, or maybe the waitress gets a bit bold and flirts with Wyll.

Mizora makes herself such a nuisance at every chance she gets.

Thoughts on the Meltan line?

Meltan was slightly controversial upon its release, due to initially only being available via PoGO. While I don't like having Pokemon tied to an app, its debut is ultimately inconsequential relative to its actual design, which is what we'll be focusing on.

Meltan is really a super simple design when you boil it down—an amorphous puddle of liquid metal (probably gallium, though mercury is also a possibility) with a hex nut for a head. My favorite part of it is the singular eye, which achieves a cycloptic effect and floats independently of the nut and the rest of the body. If the anime is to be believed, it can also be removed from the rest of the body without consequence.

The only thing I really dislike about the design is the "tail". First, it doesn't have much to do with the metal theme at all—it appears to be an electrical wire, which is bizarre as Meltan's not an electric-type. And secondly, it's a weird bright red that draws attention to a pointless aspect of the design, and throws the otherwise simple gold-and-silver palette. Everything else, however, is solid.

Melmetal keeps all of the things that made Meltan stand out, such as the liquid body, the gold accents, and the hex nuts. The difference is the way these elements are used—the head is now made of two hex nuts, the body is now a completely different shape and has a more "muscular" feel to it, and there's some grey hex nuts in there as well. This makes the two feel cohesive but also distinct in their own rights.

Visually, all of these elements are pretty well balanced; the large hex nuts on the arms draw attention to their size and strength, while the gold color on the head draws attention to the "face" (or, in this case, just an eye). I do wish the arms didn't have the middle hex nuts as those start to make it feel a smidge too busy, and unfortunately it keeps the wire-tail from Meltan, which is even more pointless and out-of-place here; however, everything else is quite nice.

Also, side note, I think this piece of lore for it is particularly neat:

The g-max suffers from the common g-max problem of not really having any kind of concept in mind other than "big", with a weird, less-effective design to go with it. The idea of the liquid body is played around with some exaggerated shapes that are kind of fun, but nothing else here really stands out. The extra liquid around the head only serves to clutter the area and make it harder to read, while the overly thin torso and huge arms make it look really to fall apart and/or topple over any second. Honestly, it's nothing more than just a worse Melmetal.

Anyway, as a whole, this line is good. The liquid metal aspect is fun and the faces are more abstract in a way that really stands out. Meltan is simple and cute, while Melmetal feels like a logical progression to it. The only downside is the g-max, which is lackluster at best, but g-maxes also aren't around anymore so that's really not a big issue. Overall, solid.

The Unstable Mutation arc!

Not sure if that's an official name for it, but I'm a sucker for the story concept of slowly devolving into a monstrous being out of your control. Like, if y'all liked the "Good Genes" arc from TMNT 2003 or the whole "Savage Raph" thing from Rise of the TMNT, then this arc is like those, but on steroids!

I hope y'all are ready for me to ramble about one of my favorite parts of TMNT 1987, cuz that's what I'm gonna do! Thank you anon, for giving me that excuse reason! Heavy spoilers for TMNT 1987 below the cut!

Before I get into the arc, first let's have a quick overview of the "Red Sky seasons" of TMNT 1987. "Red Sky" is a fan-made name for the final 3 seasons of TMNT 1987.

For whatever reason, during those seasons the background artists started coloring the sky red. Those seasons also got a bit more plotty and dark, and had more over-arching storylines instead of being episodic. So they are referred to as the "Red Sky seasons" due to them being both figuratively AND literally more ominous!

For comparison, the Red Sky seasons are to TMNT 1987 what the Rise of the TMNT movie is to the rest of the series, or what the "Leo being thrown through a window" incident is to most other TMNT series.

And while my main critique of these seasons is that they were kind of still figuring out how to do chronological storytelling, so parts of it are a bit awkward (particularly in season 10), and there is also a severe lack of April O'Neil, it had some really cool concepts.

It introduced a pretty neat character, named Carter, who joins the turtles in fighting the bad guys:

And it had the Unstable Mutation arc (spoilers below)...

As the name suggests, the basic plotline of the arc involves the turtles' mutations becoming unstable, causing them to slowly transform into much more monstrous mutants, giving them a boost in abilities and physical prowess, but at a cost of intelligence and morality. In short, they get big and feral.

What I love about this arc is that it is actually paced rather well. They hint at it later on in season 8, follows through a slowly progressing destabilization throughout season 9, and then finally concludes in season 10 (the final season of the series).

It starts with them transforming suddenly, and very briefly at first, affording them a boost in strength and endurance, before they change back to their usual selves. However, another side-effect of the transformation is that it tires them out. Their first transformation literally knocks them out afterwards. As the story goes on, the transformations stay longer and of course often happen at very unfortunate moments, and it begins to effect their mental stability. As it progresses throughout the season, the unstable mutation threatens to become permanent as they lose themselves to the transformations.

Spreading the arc out in this way manages to keep up the tension really well!

Another cool aspect about the transformations themselves is that it's the first time that the turtles really look different from each other. For instance Leonardo gets some metallic-looking bits on his plastron and Donnie gets a cyborg eye. And I honestly wonder if "Rise of the TMNT" took some prompts from Raphael's unstable mutation design, because he's much spikier than the others.

The whole arc comes to a head when Donatello manages to find a way to stabilize their mutation, but due to some villainous shenanigans, Leonardo's transformation gets WORSE and they have to deal with that for a couple episodes.

The consequences of the arc even ties into the villain's main plot in the end, so it actually fits together quite nicely as a whole. The character Carter, that I mentioned earlier, also has a major plot to play in the whole arc, too, and he deals with similar mutation issues throughout. There's just so much going on in these seasons and it's epic and angsty and great!

If I had to choose, I'd still say season 1 of TMNT 1987 is my fave overall, but Season 9 (where most of this arc takes place) is a very close second, and it's largely because I think the whole "unstable mutation" idea was really well-executed!

Zelda 1/Adventure of Link

There is not much to talk about here. The design is the base for every Link in the series, and it actually the best out of the NES era triforce trio designs, mostly because the simplicity works surprisingly well here. 5/10

A Link To The Past/A Link Between Worlds/Oracle Games

This is an improvement over the NES design. Not much has changed, but the change in tunic and artstyle truly helped benefit Link this time around to create a truly iconic design. However it does suffer from being outclassed by some of the later designs for the character. 9/10

Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask (Young)

Beautiful. It’s simple, it’s instantly recognizable, and it’s fitting for the younger incarnation of The Hero of Time. Instant 10/10

Ocarina of Time (Adult)

While not my favorite design for Link, this is still one of his best designs. It’s the classic tunic, but with a white undershirt and white tights. However the context makes this design work better than it should. 9/10

Fierce Diety

What you think of when you’re thinking about Hyrule’s Hero, but it’s a sick design regardless. 10/10

Hero’s Shade

He looks like a frickin’ Eldin Ring character, but I cannot ignore how fitting this design is. 8/10

Toon Link

This is my fifth favorite design for da boi, primarily because of the artstyle, the coloring, and the simplicity of his design. He’s the literal embodiment of “he’s just a little guy,” and it works in his favor, especially since Link is pretty much usually just a guy before he becomes a hero. Instant 10/10

Twilight Princess/Smash Bros

I like the extra detailing, and the more knight-like feel, but the darker colors don’t do it for me. Regardless it’s pretty cool. 9/10

Skyward Sword

The more detailed design from Twilight Princess got altered into this, and I’m all here for it. The brighter colors, combined with the expressiveness Link has in that game instantly sells me on it. Instant 10/10

Hyrule Warriors

The foundations that Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword set up have been brought to their final evolution. A more knight-like Link with a big ol’ blue scarf and a vibrant green tunic. Beautiful. Instant 10/10

Ancient Hero

I’m intrigued, but… this unfortunately is an 8/10

Breath of The Wild/Age of Calamity

Link looks so great in blue. As for the attire itself, it’s yet another simple yet effective look. Instant 10/10

Tears of The Kingdom (Champion Tunic)

Not much has changed, but the design does have a similar knight-like aura to what we see in TP, SS, and HW, Rauru’s arm definitely looks cool. Still, this isn’t the best Link design in the game. Instant 10/10

Tears of The Kingdom (Archaic Tunic)

Between the return of the green, the rugged feel of the tunic, the little triforce shapes on the side, and the unkempt hair, Link looks perfect. The design is drastically different to anything we’ve seen, but in a good way, and I’m all down for it. Instant 10/10

Ashlyn Banner

Solitaire: A major part of her character is learning how to balance her introverted nature with opening up to others. I like how she isn't shamed for being a private person, though, just encouraged to give others a chance, so I'm giving her the song about that.

Oh No!: Ashlyn is a very confident person as far as we've seen (though there are still some insecurities she has to work through) who isn't going to change her entire self for some random kid. Oh No! fits that kinda in that Ashlyn has flaws, but she is aware of them and she decides what's worth trying to change.

Aiden Clark:

Too Afraid: Aiden. Buddy. CHILD. He is incredibly extroverted, outgoing, social, and tends to take up the spotlight wherever he goes. This isn't a bad thing in its own light, however we've seen that it's largely become a coping mechanism for him. This kid's mind is or at the very least WAS in a very dark place before, and it's being repressed largely (at least, that's what it seems like.)

Primadonna: Like the exact same thing as above. Takes up the spotlight because the minute you stop off the stage, what's left?

Ben Clark:

I Am Not a Robot: Ben is a very stoic-seeming character. We've gotten to know him and he's a gentle, kind-hearted, nervous, and sweet person, albeit one with astoundingly destructive and angry tendencies. A bit part of his character, to me, has been seeing him balance not allowing his rage to run away with him but also not bottling up until it overflows. He is NOT a robot.

Valley of The Dolls: Yeah this song's about a book I've never read so uhhhhh ANYWAYS. Ben's past self was ANGRY. He was hurt and upset. No matter how many people he fought, or how much it hurt, he couldn't feel better, if anything at all. There was an emptiness he couldn't heal. Maybe it's still there. But he's healing.

Logan Fields:

Karma: I think this song could fit his relationship with his bully (Baron or Barron? Can't remember how to spell it), especially in the arcade fight scene (LOVED IT). Baron has been getting away with horrific acts simply because nobody knew, but now that it's come to light, now that Logan is stronger, now that he has people in his corner, karma's coming.

The Family Jewels: I'm concerned about Logan's home life, honestly. We don't know (as far as I'm aware) why he lives with his grandparents. Did something happen to his parents? Is he an orphan? Is he not with them for another reason? Also, what's going on with his grandparents? Is it because they're florists that they have access to painkillers and sedative type drugs, or another reason?

Taylor Hernández:

Orange Trees: I don't even know. I just really like the song. And I really like Taylor. And i think she would vibe to it. Taylor has a really fun personality and I think this fits her.

Can't Pin Me Down: On a more serious note, oftentimes Taylor (by both characters and the fandom, myself included) is unfortunately reduced to "aww happygolucky bestgirl!" Especially after Tyler's tragedy, we've gotten to see a new side of her: fierce loyalty and pure anger that stems from her kindness. She's going off the rails and I LOVE this for her, but I can only hope she doesn't lash at out the wrong people.

Tyler Hernández:

Are You Satisfied?: Giving him one of my ALL TIME favorite songs! Since the death of their father, Tyler has been caring for both his mother and sister and keeping the household afloat effectively. Through this, my dude doesn't seem to know what it means to take a break. He needs one.

Highly Emotional People: Furthermore on that note, I can see Taylor saying these lyrics to her twin brother. Tyler has gotten to used to being the caregiver at such a young age he doesn't seem sure how to be cared FOR. My dude is repressing and lashing out and everything in a very unhealthy way. If anything good comes out of the tree kebab, it's forcing him to accept outside help and let others take on some burdens. We're highly emotional people, and everyone deserves to show that.

Which Disney movies do you like most?

Zootopia is one of my all-time favorites, the way the fur is animated, the way they updated everything it looks so clean and polished and the story was absolutely important for the times and there is so much opportunity to expand this world.

Elemental covered this later on in Pixar's side Elemental covered the personal side while Zootopia showed the whole societal effects of racism and judgment especially within a police force which back in 2016 was a huge debate as George Floyd had just happened and it still is to this day with the Black Lives Matter Movement and Free Palestine

Another one that completely changed my life was Meet the Robinsons, the quote that ran through the movie, Keep Moving Forward, that's actually my motto,

“Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”- Walter Elias Disney

It is such a poignant quote that everybody forgets,especially in a world where we can easily stagnate and stay in one place thinking the same idea over and over. It developed into my belief

This film also showed me what a family really should be, that despite your quirks and how weird you may be they don't flinch they don't get angry

yeah your parent may get annoyed if you time travel when you shouldn't, but you know there's a logical reason behind that haha

I didn't have the best family growing up I have an amazing mother and father now but back then I didn't know what a healthy family looked like until Meet the Robinsons showed me which is why it's so dear to my heart nowadays.

Brother Bear is another one that I absolutely loved as a kid and especially as an adult from the visuals to the story

Brother Bear is another one like Zootopia that has a poignant message for everyone in 2024 look through another's eyes before you judge them and do something that is irreversible that you may regret especially if that person has done something to you and you don't know the full story.

Walk in another's shoes before you scorn them, even though it may be the most exhausting Journey you've been on, you still come out of it, understanding a little bit more about that person

And the visuals of this film are still some of the highlights of Disney the Transformation scene between the music provided by the Bulgarian women's choir and the absolutely stunning animation from Disney come together in a spectacular Feast for the viewer it's a scene I watch repeatedly.

Treasure Planet is near and dear to me as someone who grew up with a single mother I know Jim's mother's frustration and just trying to make it I always felt heartbreak for her when she lost everything,

I saw my own mother in her when she had to let her baby go to go on this journey hoping that it may be what he needs to grow.

And Jim's song I'm still here I was raised without my father my biological father he's a sweet man but unfortunately my stepmother it's a classic Cinderella tale she runs the house and treats us his biological kids like shit,

And so I used to listen to I'm still here on repeat because I related to that, especially as my stepdad came into my life my mom found her happiness finally and I didn't know exactly how to react

all the men in my life had been bad and here was this man reaching out with a gentle kind hand and I didn't know whether to bite at him or allow him to get close for fear of being hurt again.

This movie weirdly mostly helped me through a lot, understanding that it's okay to heal and move on, that there was nothing you could do, just be grateful for the parent or parents you do have.

Shout out to Onwards for having a similar effect with me. Especially at the end, I cried with the stepdad because all I could picture was my own stepdad, who is just as big a goof as the police chief is.

Atlantis the Lost Empire is another one I just like watching because it's funny and it's one of my favorite films visually and story wise. It was so unique and out of the box that this is one of the rare films I really do hope they take to live action, especially my most favorite scene out of every single Disney catalog which is The Crystal Chamber Scene

That scene still gives me goosebumps that moment where Kida walks on the water and says Matem fun fact I can actually say her full name

The way Milo's head slightly nods when she says what she says you think as a kid he really didn't catch it but as an adult you catch that moment and you realize he did he just lied to Rourke

The lighting, the animation and the music oh the music is powerful It's haunting it's ethereal this to me is Disney at its Peak right then in there in that moment

The jokes of this film are top notch and again the animation is just so unique and stunning

If one were to enter Angel’s Share however, they’d find the tavern to be much quieter than usual. The reason being that one of the usual patrons was absent.

The young Ragivinder glances at barstools across the counter, a small frown forming on his face at the continued absence of his “favorite freeloader”. It was nothing like Venti to not be here at this hour.

The bard in question quietly slipped in and took his normal seat at the bar. Diluc turned to him while polishing an empty wineglass, raising an eyebrow at the archon’s silence. A quiet Venti was never a good thing, a lesson he’d learned very quickly. But the redhead’s wariness is replaced by sight concern when the bard gives him a small, and very fake (he knew from experience) smile. Upon seeing Diluc not buying the forced smile, Venti let’s his expression fall. The tycoon sits the glass aside, an unspoken question in his red eyes.

“Today is… an anniversary of sorts… Not a good one unfortunately…” Diluc just nods in understanding. He’s no stranger to bitter anniversaries. It was a familiar pain that rolled around every year on his birthday. The tycoon wordlessly pours a glass of wine for the bard, but the gesture is politely refused, much to his surprise. “Ah, no thank you. I really appreciate the offer, but I… I try to stay sober today.” Venti sighs a little. “Could I trouble you for just some apple cider instead Master Diluc?”

A few moments later the bard is sipping on a glass of apple cider, a distant, almost mournful, look in his eyes. “…I’m not one to discuss feelings and the like, but I can tell you need to get something off your chest. Confide in me if it helps. I can’t promise I’ll know what to say, but I’ll listen.” Venti looks up at the bartender with a surprised expression. “Don’t you need to work though?” “I’m only here because it was a busy night. Now that it’s gotten late, I can leave it to the others.” Venti takes another sip of his cider before sighing deeply and beginning to speak.

“Today marks the hundredth year since I lost someone very close to me. Even though no one but I remember them now, it still feels as though I lost them only yesterday… Sometimes I find myself daydreaming that they’re still with me. I know it’s unhealthy to do it, but it’s…. For those few moments, it feels like everything is right.” The ex archon sips his cider once again, a bitter laugh passing his lips. “…[Name] never did like my drinking habits. No matter how many times I told them that alcohol doesn’t have any long term side effects for an immortal, they’d still pout and insist that I drink less. Even if it’s far too late now, a part of me hopes that wherever they are now, they’ll see me cutting back for them. I know you think I drink an unreasonable amount, but I’m actually really good about my alcohol intake these days.”

The redhead raises an eyebrow at those words, skepticism clear in his crimson eyes. Venti laughs quietly at the doubtful look. “I’m serious!”

“Venti! What are you doing here at this time in the morning? I’ve heard of day drinking but this is ridiculous! Let’s just… Let’s go home okay? You worried me last night. I kept waiting and waiting and you never came home. Hm? No, no I’m not mad. Maybe a tad disappointed, but not angry. How about next time we come together and maybe get some cider instead?”

“…Apple cider was their favorite. I guess they rubbed off on me, since I’ve found myself enjoying it more too.” Venti’s eyes turn from wistful to saddened. “…It’s funny though. For some reason, it never seems to be quite as sweet as I remember it being when we drank it together…”

“Want to take a walk to Windrise this afternoon? Ah, now? Well, I can’t go right now. I’m sorry. I have work to catch up on first. But don’t worry, we can definitely take a walk later! Promise!”

The bard sighs. “They always loved going on walks to Windrise. The way that their face would light up and their eyes would sparkle, it was… So beautiful. The first time I saw that expression it left me speechless. They laughed at me for weeks after that. Of course when I’d turn it back on them and tease them for being ‘so gorgeous they took the words from a wordsmith’ they’d get all flustered.”

“Hey, Venti I… I have a small request. Could you maybe come with me to Starsnatch Cliff this evening? It would mean a lot to me. Why? No reason in particular. I just think it’d be nice.”

“Cecelias were they’re favorite. They could make the best flower crowns from them. I’d call them that sometimes. ‘My ceclia’. I called them lots of things… They made a lot of words mean so much more… I’d call them Windblume, my muse, my song… So many different things, yet… I wish I could’ve simply called them by their name more…”

“…I’ll be honest Venti. When I said there wasn’t a reason I wanted to come to the cliff with you I… I lied. There is a reason. I just wanted to spend a last night with you. Just the two of us, and the stars.”

“Venti, you know I’m not that cruel. I may joke around with you sometimes, but I’m not heartless enough to make jokes about my life.”

“…I know. This is why I didn’t tell you. I wanted you to be happy, and I knew that if I told you I was dying, you’d beat yourself up for it for years.”

“Hey now, don’t cry! It’s okay, I’m content. I lived every day to the fullest with you by my side. I don’t have any regrets. I’m happy.”

“I’m happy Venti. Please, won’t you promise me that you’ll find happiness too?”

“I-I promise [Name].”

The bard sighs into the fresh air as he sits down on the grass of Starsnatch Cliff. He holds the freshly picked cecilia close to his chest, breathing in the smell of fresh flowers and the sea far below. With the taste of apple cider still lingering on his lips, he looks to the moon. For a moment everything is perfect in a way he can only describe as ‘you’. Cider and cecilias with a hint of the sea; the feeling of home. The feeling of you.

Venti closes his eyes as he looks to the moon, soft whispered words passing from his lips.

“I love you [Name]. Even if it’s only your memory; that’s enough. I’m happy with that. I’m happy.”

Darnold was becoming sick of Benrey’s bullshit. He’d spent the least amount of time with him compared to the Science Team, but he was quickly realizing Benrey put on one of two acts. Sometimes, he pretended to be perfectly human, nothing strange to see here at all, just don’t look too close, okay? Smile :). The other half of the time, he turned the alien act up as much as he could, acting like he didn’t understand the basics of human life, like sleeping or chewing food.

Darnold wasn’t stupid. He knew both acts were a goddamn lie. He hadn’t been on Xen with the rest of them, but Tommy had told him all about how Benrey had grown forty feet tall and floated through islands and transformed into wretched shapes that something that once appeared human should never turn into. Hell, even in his own lab, he’d watched Gordon Freeman unload a gun full of fingernails into Benrey’s face, and Benrey’s only reaction had been to mock him. The guy sure as hell wasn’t a normal human by any stretch of the imagination.

The hapless alien shtick, however, was just as much of a joke. Sure, he might not be human, but that was the case with a surprising number of Darnold’s coworkers, and Benrey had been working for Black Mesa a while. Longer than Gordon, certainly. He’d been on Earth long enough to know about things like lasagna or video game executives or mayonnaise. He had opinions about movie formats, for Christ’s sake. He’d been passing as human long enough to befriend most of the security team. It wasn’t like he’d been kicked out of a UFO just an hour before the Resonance Cascade kicked off.

Which meant when Benrey poked around his lab and asked him about mundane things, Darnold knew it was just to annoy him. Unfortunately for Darnold, it was extremely effective.

“What’s this potion do?”

Darnold bit back an annoyed sigh and dragged his eyes away from his work to figure out whatever the hell Benrey had gotten his hands on this time. “That’s coffee,” He said, trying and failing to keep the irritation from his voice.

“Coffee?” Benrey repeated. His expression was deceptively blank. “That’s a funny name. What’s it do though?”

Darnold was not a violent man. He took pride in the fact that his murder count was the lowest out of his friends’ (a big fat zero murders!). But Benrey was doing a remarkable job of trying his patience. “It keeps people awake, mostly. And it makes you shit,” He added as an afterthought.

“That’s awesome. Humans love being awake and shitting.” Benrey downed the whole mug of coffee in one go. Darnold tried to convince himself it was a blessing that Benrey hadn’t bitten a chunk out of the mug this time. He liked that mug. It had cats on it. 

He took a deep breath, counted to ten, and returned his focus to his work. Right on cue, Benrey began poking at something else in his lab. 

“What happens if I press this button?”

That was probably one of the most concerning questions Benrey could ask in a laboratory. Thankfully, he was only standing in front of the Keurig. “It’ll make coffee.” Darnold didn’t even try to steer his tone away from “babysitting a troublesome younger cousin who wants nothing more than to steal your Yugioh cards.” Benrey wasn’t worth the effort. “It heats water, and then presses that water through the coffee gr-”

Benrey clicked the button before Darnold could finish his explanation of how coffee makers work. They both watched blankly as coffee gurgled through the spout and splattered onto where the mug would sit if it wasn’t sitting several feet away where Benrey had abandoned it on the counter. Neither of them spoke until the Keurig spat out its last few drops. Coffee dripped off the sides of the counter and onto the floor. 

“So cool,” Benrey eventually said. There was the barest hint of mirth at the edge of his monotone. “Humans are the best. I hope I never leave.”

Darnold didn’t manage to bite back his groan that time, dropping his face into his hands. “I wish you would.”

As soon as he said it, he knew it was a mistake. What Benrey wanted, first and foremost, was attention. It didn’t matter if it was positive or negative attention. That’s why he and Gordon were locked in each other’s orbit like the universe’s most toxic planetary bodies. Volatile attention whores, the both of them. Darnold peeked through his fingers in the hopes that Benrey hadn’t heard him. No dice. There was a smug grin on Benrey’s face and a dangerous glint in his eyes. Letting Benrey know that his attempts to be annoying were successful was like coating yourself in barbecue sauce and laying down in a lion’s den. Darnold was screwed.

Benrey shoved his hands in his pockets and sauntered over to Darnold’s workbench in a way that was probably supposed to look casual. Darnold forced himself to ignore him and return to his careful measurements. Benrey stood over the workbench and watched him work in silence for approximately four seconds.

“Whatcha making?” Benrey asked, the image of innocent curiosity. Darnold was beginning to understand why Dr. Freeman had shot him so many times. He kept in mind his pride in being the only member of the Neo Science Team without blood on his hands, and he forced himself to sound as patient as possible.

“I’m working on my Evil Powerade potion. This is the closest to perfect I’ve gotten, I only need a few more-”

Benrey snatched the still boiling beaker off the workbench and downed it in one go. Darnold stared at him, mouth agape, as Benrey smacked his lips thoughtfully. “Needs more salt,” He said, matter-of-factly.

Ten minutes later, Tommy was trying to calm Darnold down over the phone. “It- It happens to the best of us!”

“Not me, though!” Darnold’s voice was reaching shrill levels of alarm.

“Well, now you- we’ve all killed Benrey at least once at this point!” Tommy sounded remarkably upbeat for someone who’d just been told his best friend was now a corpse on his other friend’s floor.

“How long does this sort of thing normally las-” 

“Haha, check it,” Benrey interrupted him for the third time that afternoon. Darnold leaned over his bench to look at the former corpse, who had scooted a few inches over so the coffee that was still dripping off the counter could land directly in his mouth. He grinned when he knew Darnold was looking at him. Darnold felt vaguely ill watching the coffee drip onto a nose that Benrey hadn’t bothered to put back in its proper position on his face. “Check it,” Benrey repeated, “Drip coffee.”

“Tommy,” Darnold said into his phone, keeping his voice level, “Can I kill him again?”

“Sure!” Tommy’s grin was evident even through his phone speakers. “I’ll tell Bu- I’ll get Bubby to update the murder tally!”

Darnold, needless to say, did not get much work done on his potions that afternoon.
