in media res by wreckageofstars (3k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: “Well,” she said. “Now you know what the mattress is for.” Dan shifted. “And the trampoline?” “Best not ask about the trampoline.” //I think this is probably the first Dan pov fic I ever read, and it’s absolutely brilliant. This author gets the character voices down so perfectly it’s unreal, and the whole thing is just so wonderful to see from Dan’s outsider perspective. It’s set in the immediate aftermath of Once, Upon Time, and it does a fantastic job of exploring the impact of what happened in that episode – both from a whump perspective and an emotional one. Angsty, but also funny in the worst kind of way – someone please go give Yaz a break, she REALLY needs one. Anyway, it’s great, everyone go read it right now.

Hearts of Stone by weirdpug (previously xhonia) (1k, 1 chapter, thoschei) summary: The Doctor loses herself. The Master finds her. //Ohhh this one this one, it’s SO awesome – it’s one of those fics that does really cool things with the formatting? Which works great here, because it’s a weeping angel!13 fic and wow, wow! Extremely awesome indeed, and just beautifully written – the prose is just so full of character, even when the Doctor is losing herself and it’s so well done.

Divination by WalkerLister (6k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: “There was a name for someone similar to me once. They called them the Valeyard. You can call me that, if you like. I quite like it, it’s suitably eerie. Little bit of drama never hurt anyone.” //Right, so we all remember what happened when War of the Sontarans aired…we got that ‘next time’ trailer of Once Upon Time…and all collectively lost our minds over the inverted dark coat. Since then, I feel like everyone has been finding really creative ways to get it into fanfics, and this is a wonderful example. And, well, if the promise of dark coat!13 wasn’t enough, this fic is just an absolutely fascinating look at the concept of the Valeyard in the context of the fobwatch from Flux, but focused on Yaz and her relationship with/perception of the Doctor. It’s such a good concept and so so wonderfully done! (also, if you’re a fan of thasmin, this author has a ton of stuff, so definitely go check it all out! For the less thasmin-inclined folks, I highly recommend Ipesity, which is one of my favourite post-TTC fics)

three points where two lines meet by Ymae (4k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: The Doctor tries to get those memories back, and breaks herself, bit by bit. //Oh man. This fic. I still remember when this one first posted and hoooooo boy, it is a hell of a gut-punch and absolutely wrenched my heart right out of my chest but HHHHHHHHH wow!! WOW. Genuinely, I think this fic rewrote my brain a little bit. It's set in the immediate aftermath of Once, Upon Time where the Doctor makes some very unwise decisions about trying to tug at her timeline and it's absolutely incredible. Very angsty, very whumpy, and full of a HUGE amount of the Doctor messing with timelines and very visceral, tangible descriptions of her timesense. It is such a treat, guys. And if you like this one and want something with similar vibes, I also highly recommend this post-flux fic by the same author!

Sheer Poetry! by Papapaldi (57k, 5 chapters, gen) summary: Trapped within her own mind, the Doctor travels through an impossible house, with everyone she has ever been locked inside. Her body is an unresponsive, useless bag of flesh somewhere far and away in reality. The part of her brain that she knows, where her past resides, sits somewhere else entirely within the old machine. The Ravagers eat, buried memories beckon, and the Doctor's faith is shaken to its core. She will never be the same – but that's what she's all about, right? Incredible change. //oh my days. THIS FIC, guys - look, I see the word count, I know, I know. This fic is a serious undertaking, but like so many things in life it is soooooo so worth it. Bucket loads of absolutely ASTOUNDING imagery, more references to Lungbarrow and Timewyrm Revelation than you can shake a stick at, BUT you don't need to have read those stories at all to enjoy this absolutely fantastic saga (put it like this - I've not read those books, and I had a whale of a time). Incredibly poetic, a little nonsensical in the best kind of way (it IS a mindscape fic) but startlingly funny and so beautifully in character. I laughed, I cried. This fic is just a love letter to everything Doctor Who, weaving all of canon into this beautiful, cohesive tapestry. I highly recommend. (and, if you're hungry for more and want tpotd content, there's an excellent sequel as well)

every step i choose to take (begins to set the world aflame) by SleepyMaddy (12k, 1 chapter, thoschei) summary: In a spaceport lost in a remote quadrant of interstellar space, a Doctor who doesn’t know herself anymore runs into a Master who doesn’t know himself yet // Ok so the sheer concept of this one ALONE is absolutely brilliant – the Doctor, escaping from the Division and half out of her head, bumps into the Master, who’s not long regenerated from Missy. And, guys. It’s fascinating. Seeing the Master right at the start, before he finds out everything that comes to define him in this era, and then having him meet a version of the Doctor who is quite a lot further along than him and just completely out of it? It’s like catnip to me, guys. And, of course, it’s all helped by the fact that the writing is absolutely brilliant – the characters are just absolutely spot on, which is quite an incredible feat seeing as they are both in very different places to where we see them in the show, yet they still manage to ring true throughout the whole thing. And also the mindscape imagery? The psychic whump? The emotional gut-punch that is the entire fic? Absolutely unparalleled. (also, if you’re a spydoc fan? Just help yourself out and read this author’s entire set of works, because it’s all fantastic)

see me bare my teeth for you by picnokinesis (16k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: “Do you know your mission?” //This is a bit of a cheeky self-rec, but, in my defence, if you're looking for flux fics, then I think you'll enjoy this one. I wrote it in the week after Village of the Angels aired, and it's basically all my thoughts and theories about what was going to happen in Survivors of the Flux thrown into a 16k oneshot. I was...mostly wrong HAHA but I’m still really proud of it. If you like division!doctor, then this one is for you

we're only dreaming (tell me who i am) by SpaceBetweenGalaxies (2k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: more the-memory-house-is-Lungbarrow clowning //ok, so if you were like me when flux was airing and absolutely lost your MIND over the illogical house which was a bit too on the nose regarding Lungbarrow related things, then THIS FIC IS FOR YOU. Absolutely brilliantly done, with some gorgeous imagery that I'm still thinking about to this day, and just a wonderfully unsettling exploration of the Doctor and how she picks at those cut off memories in the aftermath of the Flux

the stars are bound to change by emptypockets (9k, 1 chapter, gen) summary: Being trisected across the universe has unexpected consequences for the Doctor, and Yaz is tasked with the responsibility of keeping her awake. //ohhhhhh this fic is so wonderful!! It's that weird sweet spot of 'soft angst', where it hits where it hurts but at the same time the whole thing feels like it's wrapping you in a warm blanket. Augh!! Such a lovely portrayal of the Doctor and Yaz's dynamic - I adore how this author writes these two so much. An absolutely lovely (but angsty!) character exploration, with a healthy dose of whump and sleepiness on the side. What more could you want?

Everything by rowanthestrange (24k, 13 chapters, thasmin) summary: In which Yaz wants to know everything, and the Doctor finally wants that too. //Ok, so full disclosure, I don't read that much thasmin, but this fic, guys. It's just gorgeous. A beautifully written exploration of Yaz and her relationship with the Doctor in the aftermath of Flux, which explores the years Yaz spent in the past and how that changed her; the Doctor grappling with her identity issues and how that's changed her; as well as all sorts of other wonderful things besides. Another fic that had tears streaming down my face (the TARDIS chapter got me...). It's such a poignant, emotional fic, and it's very focused on character in a way that I really adore. If you like thasmin, this is an absolute must-read. If you're not a fan of thasmin, I recommend it anyway (- signed: a thoschei shipper) because it's just such a brilliant portrayal of these two.

Pairing: Monsta X Jooheon x Reader

Genre: Fluff

Every love story was different, but always held the same three characteristics.

It could be ANYONE. Literally any person you pass on the street could be your soulmate. Didn't feel tiny in the expansive universe already?

It could happen at ANY time. Fifth grade math lesson? Accidental shoulder check at the grocery store? Awkward doctor's appointment? There was no telling where love would rear its ugly head.

Love in this new age? It always started with a burst of color.

"All I could see was this bright green going from my hand down my forearm," your best friend, Mina, rushed out excitedly. "It almost made me drop the weight I was holding."

"That's great, babe," you smiled, trying to be happy for her. "Who is the lucky guy?"

"His name is Hajoon," she continued dreamily. "I guess he'd seen me at the gym before but was too scared to say anything. Isn't that adorable?"

You would probably be going to Hell for not being over the moon for your best friend, but it was hard when you were still waiting.

Society put such an emphasis on finding your soulmate, it was impossible to think of much else. Going about your day, you tried to pay attention to who you brushed past or made casual physical contact with. That's how you would know.

When you touched your soulmate, color would bloom across your skin at the point of impact.

"Super cute," you sighed, avoiding eye contact. "So he saw you start to struggle and saved the day by spotting you?"

"Mhm," she hummed. "As soon as his fingers touched the back of my hand, it was like someone threw dye onto our arms. It was the craziest thing!"

"Sounds beautiful," you nodded, giving your best effort at a smile.

Clocking your failed attempts at support, Mina smiled sadly in return. "It's going to happen for you soon. I can feel it."

"Can you pass some of that feeling to me?" you grumbled. "I'd prefer not to ruin such a big day for my best friend."

"Hush," she cooed, wrapping an arm around you. "You haven't ruined anything. Sour mood or not, I have some good news."

"What's that?"

"Hajoon works for an entertainment company," she nodded. "He's an executive-"

"Cute AND rich?" you teased. "That IS some excellent news for you."

Smacking at your leg, Mina continued. "He asked if I wanted to go to a concert put on by his work. We have plans to meet up after, but do you want to go to the concert with me? He said I could bring a friend while he's working backstage on things."

"Why not?" you sighed. "Maybe I'll get elbowed in the crowd and accidentally find my soulmate."

"That's the spirit!"

A few days later, you allowed Mina to get you dressed up, acting as her doll for the night. You could admit that you were going through the motions as you followed her to the venue. Determined to make sure it was a good night for her, you put on as bright of a smile as you could when she handed you a light stick.

"The group is called Monsta X," she instructed. "They have six members, and their music is really exciting."

"Got it," you nodded, positive you had listened to their songs before. "Who's my favorite?"

"Not Hyungwon," she grinned. "He's my favorite."

"Point him out to me so I know to stay clear," you chuckled.

"We also have a high touch after," she said brightly, tugging you through the crowd.

"High touch," you confirmed, searching your brain for what exactly that meant. "Can't wait."

"You're going to have fun," Mina said slowly, looking over her shoulder at you. "I promise."

And she was right, the show was a blast. You had never experienced a live concert like Monsta X's before. The energy of the crowed literally radiated through your body. You were right that you had heard some of their music before and sang along to all of the songs you knew. Being lost in the crowd that was all feeling the same electricity was incredible. It's like you were one giant, synchronous being.

After the show, you were a bit flustered from all the activity, nearly forgetting you had a chance to meet the idols before leaving (yes, you did break down and ask Mina what exactly a high touch was). Allowing her to once again navigate you to where you needed to be, it wasn't long before you were thrust in front of the very men you had been howling at only minutes before.

Pushing you in front of her, Mina pointed to the first member facing your way for the high touch. "That's Hyungwon."

Assessing him, you could easily see why he was her favorite. Handsome was an understatement, this man was ethereal. "Yeeaah he is."

"Y/N," your friend giggled, giving you a slight push. Taking the few steps forward, you slapped your hand in his for a high five. The moment lasted only seconds but there was a bit of a rush to meeting a celebrity.

Next came a tall, tan, and buff member you would later learn was Shownu.

After, you locked eyes with the third member, remembering him as one of the vibrant mood makers of the group. He had been incredible on stage.

As your hand skid across his, you shot back with a gasp.

"Yah!" the member shouted, hopping backwards as well. His focus ricocheted from his palm to yours, mouth completely agape. Looking down in fascination, colors began to wrap around his wrist and trickle down his arm.

Shocked by what was happening, you glanced down at your own arm as well, getting lost in the cloud-like imagery blossoming across your skin.

Gasps erupted around you by both spectators and other Monsta X members. You couldn't help but feel like you did something wrong. Like you weren't allowed to have someone so interesting and good looking as a soulmate.

This simply could not be possible.

"Hey!" Jooheon yelled, bringing your attention back to him. He wasn't talking to you, but shouting at a staff member while aggressively waving them over. "Yo!"

Snapping out of it a bit, you took another step back, only to be slightly held up by Mina behind you. This was sensory overload to the nth degree.

"Y/N," she hissed, her own eyes darting across the scene. "Did...did you just sync up with Jooheon? Is he your soulmate?"

Jooheon. You had never heard his name before, but it just sounded right.

"I...I think so," you managed, not entirely believing what was happening.

A staff member had finally appeared, listening to Jooheon as he rapid-fired the situation to his manager. Occasionally shooting looks of surprise your way, he didn't stop talking until they had both sidled up to you.

"We're stepping away from the high touch," his manager explained, taking you by the elbow and guiding you towards an adjacent hallway. "The fan meet will continue without Joohoney."

"That's not fair," you said slowly, shaking your head. Glancing to the man you assumed you were tied to for life now, you heaved a sigh. "Your fans have waited so long for you."

Looking helplessly back and forth between you and his manager, Jooheon croaked. "But you're my soulmate."

"I'm not saying I'm going to disappear," you smiled reassuringly. "I'll just wait until you're done. I've waited this long."

Giving a curt nod, Jooheon's eyes searched your face for a moment. His lips pulled into a slow smile before he reached up, giving your nose a boop. Immediately, his manager's jaw dropped, presumably as color stretched across the middle of your face.

Pleased with himself, Jooheon turned on his heel and took up his spot behind the table again. Maintaining eye contact with you, he offered a dazzling smile.

"Alright," his manager breathed out on a sigh. "Let's get you backstage, shall we?"

Lost in your phone, trying to explain what was going on to the friend you had abandoned, you almost didn't notice him walk in.

Hearing the quiet click of the door closing, your head immediately snapped up to see Jooheon leaning against the entrance. His expression was full of hope, with a fringe of excitement. You could tell he was trying to reign in his enthusiasm. Judging by how hard he went on the stage; he seemed like a very reactive person. This quiet and careful side of him wasn't something you had really expected.

You supposed you had a lot to learn.

Crossing the room slowly, he took a seat on the coffee table in front of the couch you were sitting on. He bracketed your knees with his, creating an intimate space between the two of you.

Without hesitation, he took your hands gently between his, a light purple color already blooming from your fingertips. "Y/N, right?"

You barely remembered telling his manager your name, so he likely got passed the information.

"That's me."

"My soulmate."

You nodded weakly, looking from your joined hands and back up to his face. He smiled again before lifting your fingers to his mouth and kissing each tip in turn. As he did, it was like dropping food coloring into a glass of water. Different hues clouded out of your joints and went swirling around your skin. It was one of the most beautiful things you had ever seen.

Glancing up, you were immediately struck by the bright blue peppering Jooheon's mouth like ink blots. Slowly the color started to fade as your skin had lost contact with his mouth, but you still felt mesmerized by the whole experience.

"You're so beautiful," you said quietly, your eyes locking on his.

He gave you a close-lipped smile before tilting his head. Narrowing his eyes, he lifted his arm, and traced a small line on your cheekbone. You didn't have to see the result yourself to know that the visual had just as much of an effect on him as it did you.

"This is beautiful," he finally responded, dropping his hands to gather yours again. "I don't think I'll ever get tired of it."

"Me either," you breathed.

"I guess it gives me an excuse to hold your hand," he grinned, his eyes disappearing as it grew.

"You didn't need an excuse in the first place!" you laughed. "You're my soulmate now. You can hold my hand whenever you want."

"My soulmate," he whispered again. Each time he had voiced the words, there was a constant undertone of wonder.

"I don't think I'll get tired of hearing you say that," you chuckled, sure a blush was blazing across your face.

Jooheon furrowed his brows in thought. "Did you come to the show today as a fan? Was I your favorite?"

You coughed out a surprised laugh.

"It would be really awkward if you had a different favorite. If it was someone else, don't tell me who...

Okay, who was it?"

You continued to laugh as you shook your head. "I was only ever a casual fan. My friend had tickets and insisted I tag along. I promise I will be a Monbebe going forward, and you will always be my favorite."

"Damn right," he muttered. "And stay away from Minhyuk. He's more charming than I'd ever admit to him, and I don't want you getting caught in his cute little clutches."

"I will remain unshaken in my loyalty," you affirmed with a smirk. Plus, you had no idea who Minhyuk was, so that helped.

It was crazy to think of. If Mina didn't bring you here today, would you have ever discovered that Jooheon existed? Let alone that he was your soulmate?

You didn't want to think too hard on it. The universe worked in mysterious ways that you didn't expect to ever be privy to.

"So..." you hummed, glancing at Jooheon through your lashes. "What now?"

"Everything," he grinned, squeezing your hand. "We only have forever to figure out what happens next."

After The Parents | Tony Stark

Arriving outside of Tony Parent's house as you felt your nerves hit you like a truck.

Glancing over at Tony as he put the car in park and looks back at you.

“You’ll be okay. They are going to love you.” Tony says and you nod

“I'm nervous! Your dad is Howard Stark and you know I’m a massive fan of his work and industry.” You say quietly, Tony chuckles.

“Which makes you even more perfect, get my dad talking about his industry and what we do in class, get my mom talking about baking and anything else that’s not related to my father's business. You’ll be okay.” Tony says and you nod softly.

Seeing the front door open as your nerves hit you like a truck. Tony kisses you quickly as he got out of the car and places the keys in his pocket. Tony walks over to your side, opening the door like he usually does for you.

Getting out as you smile softly, “Thank you, Tony” you say, and he closes the door as he takes your hand.

“No need to say Thank you.” Tony says as you giggle, “watch it the steps here are a bit weird” Tony says as you then look up at the giant mansion they own. Gorgeous house, the scheme almost brings modern white and black for the time of the 90s.

Going up the steps carefully as you saw Maria and Howard Stark standing at the door with wide smiles. You made sure you came with the most beautiful dresses and the most covered-up dress you had. It was a black dress that came down to your knees, it was spaghetti, so you had a jacket to cover up your arms, and you wore small wedges and not heels. You put on simple jewelry with the help of Tony.

Smiling at his parents

“Oh, You must be Y/n!” His mother says and she smiles.

“I am. Mr. And Mrs. Stark!” You say, and they smile almost instantly.

“Please Y/n it’s Howard and Maria,” Howard says, and you nod.

“Of course.” You say as they walked inside and you and Tony followed behind.

“Beautiful home.” You say as Howard smiles

“Thank you! I invested a lot in my company and home to make my wife and son comfortable along with happiness.” Howard says.

“You’re doing a wonderful job, especially with your business, by the way, huge congratulations on getting that contract. I keep up with Stark Industries because I’m writing my Bachelor final on the impact you leave on the work, Mr.S-… Howard.” You say, and Howard turns to you.

“Why thank you. You are very knowledgeable then. We could use someone like you at Stark Industries. I heard you're getting into a path to get your Ph.D. too.” Howard says, and you nod.

“Yes, yes, I want to get my doctorate in Engineering and Physics, if anything, probably chemistry too. Hoping, one day, I could work at your company.” You say, and Howard nods with great respect at you.

“Well, I wish you all the best! You’ll be fine! I’ll help you with job searching and so will Tony if you get what I mean.” Howard says and you nod as Tony smiles. You just won Howard over, that’s for sure. You can see Maria smiling over at you, she likes you, but you haven’t won her over yet.

“Oh please! Enough with the business, let’s eat dinner! I made just enough for everyone.” Maria says as you guys walk into the dining room, which is a huge dining room with pictures and family portraits on one wall against the white wall with some gray decor too.

Seeing the food set out on a table as Tony walks up to a chair, pulling your chair out like he always does when you guys go to eat somewhere or even at home occasionally. Home means, you moved in with Tony two months ago after dating for about a couple of months now since the first wonderful date.

“Oh! You cook! I love cooking too, but I do love baking, but can never find the time with school and working as of right now.” You say, and Maria lit up.

“Yes! I love baking! I made some of my famous coconut cream pie for tonight. Not only that, but I hope you like coconut.”

“Like? No, I love it. It’s going to be delicious, I can tell.” You say and Maria laughs

“I like you already! Tony! You choose a good one!” Maria says and you smile more, turning red.

“Thank you, mom,” Tony says as he finally sits down with the rest of us as he took off his jacket.

“Mom, the food looks wonderful. “ Tony says and you nod.

“It does, and smells it too!” You say and everyone chuckled softly with you.

“Oh dig in!” Maria says as everyone began serving themselves, but Tony grabs your plate as you smile at him as he began serving you.

“You didn’t have to,” you say quietly and Tony chuckled

“Yeah or you would have been too shy to do so,” Tony says as he put the gravy on the mashed potatoes on your plate before placing it in front of you.

“Thank you,” you say quietly and Tony shakes his head

Maria and Howard watched the interaction as they look at each other, it reminded them of themselves when they were younger.

“So, Y/n what do your parents do? I mean they must be supportive of all of your big plans” Howard asks, and you sigh quietly as you look down for a moment

“My father is very supportive, he is the reason I am the way I am. My father is my whole world to me, He is a blue-collar worker, he’s a construction worker. Loves building things, he's always fixing something around our house.” You say with a soft smile, and Howard and Maria smile back.

“That’s wonderful, What about your mother?” Maria asks and you look at her.

“My mother died when I was 10, breast cancer… Before she got diagnosed, She was a nurse.” You say, and Howard sighs.

“I apologize for your loss.” They both say and you nod.

“Thank you,” you say and Howard nods as you all begin eating in silence.

“You mentioned work? What do you do besides school” Maria says

“I work at the hospital, Just an in-training clinical position, I help nurses take vitals and check people in and communicate with other staff, things like that.” You say and Maria smiles

“That’s lovely!” She says, and you giggle softly.

“Thank you!” You say and Tony smiled at you, but more as everyone began eating. The conversation carried on at the table until the end of dinner.

Helping clear the table with Maria as Tony and Howard went on to talk about the business part of Stark Industries.

“Here’s the rest of the plates from the table, Maria!” You say as you hand them to Maria as she cleans the rest of them.

Going back out as you cleared the rest of the hot sauce and whatnot and helped her put those away, then grab a rag and wipe the table clean.

“So, what made you interested in my son?” She asks as you chuckle, completely caught off guard by the question.

“Tony… he asked me first in the middle of a rainstorm with a rose. I don’t know at first I was never interested in him, then we worked together in school, then I didn't know I just fell in love with him. Then, when he asked to take me on a date all I could think is yes, yes he’s the perfect one for me, he’s gentle and kind, knows how to take care of me, and doesn’t stop at anything, he always motivates me to do better, and I do the way from him, I help him, and he helps me. and of course there *is* the utterly flawless the doctor’s wife, for which we have mr. gaiman to thank

notes on the end of Ted Lasso cause I'm really confused and torn and a bit underwhelmed and I want to make people hear my thoughts

I love Keeley choosing neither man, but I hate how these men oscillate between seeming developed and better and then reverting back to sucking. and good on the narrative for calling it out to some extent but it’s boring and exhausting. (and I understand that, yes, as they discussed, no one can be Perfect. but I really think like,, Jamie didn’t need to still be hung up on her they didn’t need to fight over her, something needed to be different cause there's not being perfect and then there's outright, why the fuck!!!! especially when we DID the "Jamie wants Keeley but then realizes he should move on" plotline LAST SEASON! like there is not being perfect and then there is, you have not grown one bit somehow, and Jamie should be Allowed to realize there's other women and he had his chance with Keeley and it's okay that they're not for each other! let him learn!!!)

cause also then the leaked nudes (another thing I have a bit of an issue with) just become,,, fodder for him being into her again and it's like, that's SO not the fucking time jesus fucking christ! and it undermines the sincerity of his apology if you read it as him starting to wonder if they could have another chance, GOD!

also the Shandy plotline was another example of something that happened a lot this season (also with Jack but it did develop how Keeley’s business is presented as taken on by Rebecca and her sexuality as well as a commentary about class so I’ll excuse all that) where a character is introduced, around for a bit, and then fucks off. which fine, can happen, plots don’t ALWAYS have to go somewhere huge they can pay off in entertainment or making a statement. but there was a lot of other shit we could’ve spent time on!

I hate how we took a plotline Ted NEEDS (being healthy with the fact that Michelle is moving on a coping) but combined it with Michelle dating the worst, most unprofessional cunt in the world (not nearly enough of a callout for him having been her personal therapist and then later a couples’ therapist (red flag on its fucking own) and then DATING A FORMER PATIENT AFTER WATCHING HER MARRIAGE END!) so that, actually, I think Ted WAS fucking right to be upset and I don’t think this SHOULD be something to just be chill with and fuck you, doctor!

I feel like there have been some good attempts to talk about real topics but that they’ve come off heavy-handed? the nudes being leaked is a great topic but the locker room bit felt a bit Much. and the way it just careened into, Isaac is upset with Colin for…. not taking enough time deleting the pictures so he takes his phone and I guess sees a dick (Colin you still could’ve been working on deleting that) and then takes it SO personally that he didn’t know… it all was So Much in a way I didn’t love

also it’s ironic we try to call out social issues but then play off things like SEVERE malpractice, abusive relationships, Keeley apparently having nudes I think spread by a teacher, etc. often for laughs

I really don’t get the Zava plotline in hindsight cause it’s another situation where like… we bring a guy in to make things better. he’s winning games but he’s got an ick vibe I think only Jamie really picks up on. it’s not super discussed so it’s like,,, has no impact, whatever. he leaves. now we have to figure out a NEW way to get better. back to square one. you could cut him out and literally it leaves like no impact on the plot except for Van Damme name change like I get!!!! that not every plot has to have a huge impact!!!!!!! but Zava was pointless and kinda a dick and I just don’t think it contributed ANYTHING to bring him in! maybe to see that they didn’t need a fancy player to get better but I also don’t know that ANYONE on the team learned that lesson tbh. and maybe that’s me complaining about not being spoon-fed but I really feel like if the message was “they think they need him but they don’t” it wasn’t super There. and having him send self-indulgent t-shirts in the final episode is really like… yeah okay guy still sucks

Rupert fall from grace plotline pretty great

Rebecca does develop a bit and I like that. she seems to go from being upset she’s single and never had a child, she still wants to defeat Rupert, but she learns to let go of that and just focus on what matters. she stands up for the love of the game, she finds inner strength. but still I think a little something is missing. I don’t think just giving her a man and a child fixes that. I don’t know, a lot of this just feels like something’s off. I’m glad she’s happy, but her arc this season wasn’t much

I really enjoyed learning Beard’s backstory but aside from that his main storyline is being in an abusive relationship played for laughs so like…. ugh. and Beard telling Ted he doesn’t want to go but couldn’t let him down is SO FUCKING GOOD, but, again…. I hate Jane so fucking much!! I keep coming back to the texts she sent in that episode and god she’s reactionary and cruel and obsessive and just,? and the one time Higgins tries to point it out he’s ignored it’s annoying

Jamie’s development as a team player has been SO amazing but again… I wish that translated into letting go of Keeley. but I do love him a lot. but let him let GO!

I’m trying to be… objective in that. things don’t tie up perfectly always in real life. but I do just feel… like there’s a lot of character development that don’t quite get!!!! Ted & Rebecca both could do better! I like the idea of them just staying friends (but DO they, even? do they have a daily video chat did he give her the biscuit recipe is there ANYTHING?) and there’s SO many good individual moments & characters in the show but I just feel like there’s a lot halfbaked looking at things as a whole

ROY KENT NEW MANAGER AND THE FANS OWNING THE TEAM AND KEELEY’S WOMEN’S LEAGUE ALL VERY GOOD!!

It’s nice to see everyone happy and together but then it leaves me more confused why Ted has to separate himself. I get he’s got Henry & I’m glad he’s coaching his son. being apart from his son is a big problem for Ted and I like that the effort to be a better father is a priority. but I still feel like things are a bit hollow. it feels like the narrative says that being a more present dad will allow Ted to let go of every other issue but I still just feel like many things weren’t fully worked at. is he an alcoholic? it’s sometimes implied!!! is he open to love? who knows!!!! does he have friends or another day job or anything to give his life meaning when Henry’s with his mom? no clue!!!!!!! does Dr. Jacob choke and die? one can only hope!!!!!!!!!

overall I liked it fine but this entire season has felt Off and Nate’s storyline is the only one I can fully endorse. I just expected from something that was so clearly planned out in detail to have less meandering plotlines, more time for developing characters, clearer closure, and maybe,, ANY evidence that Ted has not cut himself off entirely from his family right when it was getting good! if anything, it almost seems like he’s NOT coping because he DID do that! and footage of him & Rebecca video chatting or him flying out for Beard’s stupid wedding or on special occasions could mitigate that but instead it feels like he really is supposed to have cutting himself out of his found family entirely to return to his ex-wife and son as like,,, his entire closure. and so I can't in good faith believe he IS doing better. I can't.

on being Seen

I had a quasi spiritual experience going to the hospital* with my foster daughter yesterday and getting clocked as a trans dad by a young teen waiting for his name to get called. The pediatric ER waiting room is not a great place for anyone at any time, but I felt the pull of Something when this kid, clearly in pain, still made his pink stuffed dinosaur wave at Sola when she got all excited because she had brought HER pink T-Rex for comfort. I want to see and be seen by other trans people so bad. I want to be visible to young people, so they can see me with new gray hair on my temples, my wedding ring on my finger, and my daughter pulling my hand. I’m still here, and the world is a very scary place right now but by GOD I made it out alive. This kid seemed SO HAPPY to see me with my family, and I’m going to be thinking about that all day. He was on his own in the waiting room, and I hope that while we existed there together, he felt a little bit closer to the world like I did.

The fun thing about Himeru and Vincent van Gogh is that they both have little brothers that are very important to their lore/history and that they wouldn't be who they are today (weird phrasing in Van Gogh's case but you know what I mean) without said brothers. It is the most emotionally charged Wikipedia article I have read in my life)

And it's not just that they're burried in the same cemetary, theo was first burried in the netherlands and then over 20 years later was moved to france next to vincent's grave. The entire family is so sad to me, the sister vincent was the closest to ended up spending half her life in the mental asylum too after he died, funding her stay there through selling his paintings, which were getting more and more appreciated and valuable. In today's world maybe things could've turned out better for everyone, we're still far, Far from perfect in dealing with mental illnesses, but there is more knowledge at least. Maybe more compassion for the living i'd like to think.

It's funny you mention the himeru parallels, i think we talked about it too, i remember we did muse that vincent sure loved his hats (looking at his self portraits and room paintings) just like himeru... then this train of thought was cut short because the video sent us to hell. good evening!!! rating doctor who series 4 + specials today because i posted series 3 ages ago:D regular reminder that these are my opinions, my opinions change daily and in general i'm a pretty positive person and i'm just "oh great vibes i love this" :D

1. Midnight - so so so so good istg, writing is brilliant, acting is brilliant, the concept is brilliant, it's just so good. i love how it's set in such a tiny space and i still wasn't bored at any point, sky's actor killed it and so did david tennant, and i loved how the end showed how much it affected the doctor and it was just so cool. i could talk about this episode forever and it remains as one of the best dw episodes for me

2. The Waters of Mars - again, SO good i adore this episode, it's so cool to see the doctor kinda become the villain, like we want him to succeed but we also know he definitely should NOT succeed and it's brilliant. once again the acting is amazing and i loved the general vibe too, very spooky!!! and the side characters were great imo, i felt really bad for everyone who didn't survive :(

3. Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead - this story was great when i first watched it and became even better on a rewatch. the vashta nerada are such great villains imo and river song is a great character and it's so interesting how her and the doctor meet in the wrong order, also this is visually so so beautiful and i love it so much!!!!

4. Turn Left - once again such a good episode, i love the social commentary, it was cool to see rose return properly after seeing cameos the whole series and i loved how the episode focused on donna and just the whole concept was great

5. The Doctor's Daughter - love love love this episode, i love jenny (and georgia tennant) and how donna makes the doctor realise that they're not that different after all, i liked the story and the twist that the war had been going on for a week, like what??? once again donna shined, she's brilliant, and martha too!! i loved her and the hath and i was SO SAD when the hath died, freema agyeman's acting almost had me crying and david tennant made me cry when jenny died 😭 (this is a huge achievement btw i almost never cry because of movies or books etc, seriously i've cried because of some media maybe 5 or 6 times in my entire life)

6. Planet of the Ood - i really like this episode and i was so happy the ood finally got free and are now living happily. the first time they appeared it really rubbed me the wrong way that they just "liked being slaves" and i'm glad they got to be free. i loved donna and how kind and empathetic she was, she's so amazing. also i think this episode was again visually very beautiful too

7. The Stolen Earth / Journey's End - i like this finale so much, yes it's mostly because of all the companions coming together and not so much the story, but that doesn't matter 🗣‼️ absolutely heartbreaking when donna lost her memory :(

8. The End of Time (part 1) / The End of Time (part 2) - i could actually talk for hours about the scenes between 10 and wilf btw, all of them are so important and wilf is 100% 10's father figure i'm so ill. the return of time lords was so interesting to me and the way 10 kept refusing to take the gun but when he found out time lords were coming and took it was somehow really impactful for me like i was like "oh okay so it's _THIS_ not good okay", the master was so goofy when he was just randomly jumping around it was so weird lol, loved how 10 said goodbye to all his companions, also 10's regeneration gave me so much emotional damage it took me 5 days to be able to start 11's era when i first watched this

9. Partners in Crime - this episode was so fun, highlight definitely being the doctor and donna's muted discussion through the glass, it was hilarious, also how they kept walking past each other was so funny

10. Voyage of the Damned - i really liked everyone except the one guy who survived 🥰 but like that was kinda the point so it's okay, i loved mr copper he was adorable and astrid was so sweet, 10 got to say "allons-y alonso" so that's great too!!! the story itself was also pretty good imo

11. The Sontaran Stratagem / The Poison Sky - i loved having martha back and enjoyed this story very much. i loved that martha called the doctor out on his hypocrisy and i loved how martha and donna bonded. loved 10 and donna as always, 10 was so silly fpr being grammar police lmao, and i liked that in the end rattigan redeemed himself, i'm always there for sort of giving people second chances and letting them realise they were wrong and trying to fix that

12. The Unicorn and the Wasp - as someone who has watched a lot of david suchet as poirot, this is so agatha christie it was so much fun, i loved that this was a sort of explanation for why christie disappeared and it definitely had some really funny moments lmao, i didn't like the wasp thing it was a tiny bit too weird and cringe for me, but honestly i'll let it be, this is doctor who lol

13. The Next Doctor - i liked the "next doctor" and? rosita? i think that was her name, and honestly i enjoyed the story, it was nice, and the endibg was really sweet in my opinion

14. The Fires of Pompeii - peter capaldi!!! this episode had some doctor donna silliness which is always great, and i loved donna so much, i would like to be like her guys, but the overall story didn't interest me much

15. Planet of the Dead - i liked the people in the bus and the weird bug aliens whatever, they were sweet, and it had some really adorable moments, but i absolutely hated christina 😭 like she annoyed me so much it's unreal, i dont even know why exactly but i really really didn't like her and i'm so glad she only appeared in this one episode 💀

THERE WE ARE!!!! safe to say that series 4 is definitely one of my favourite series!!! hope to post series 5 at some point too, i like making these rankings :)

so . spoilers under the cut but here's the things that suck with the new doctor who Christmas episode

he doesn't have a sonic screwdriver. he calls it that but it's like a little chode remote control

the close up shots are weird and jarring

the soundtrack is out of place

I've decided the tardis interior is ugly and too plain for a fun and colourful guy like fifteen

ruby is a Clara/rose hybrid in terms of design and character

she didn't DO anything to deserve to become a companion. she didn't display any sense of intelligence or compassion or bravery where the doctor couldn't. the doctor just did everything and she watched in awe. companions are supposed to support him where he's weak. he sometimes lacks focus bc his thoughts are too big, or he struggles to be compassionate to lesser beings, or struggles to see the small picture. companions retain his humanity

addendum to that, companions are best when they're just regular people that become special. I'm not a fan of companions that are born unique and wonderful that impact the timeline and draw the doctor in. I prefer when he randomly stumbles upon regular mundane people who happen to be wonderful in their own way. particularly brave or smart or kind, who can thrive in chaos. so far ruby doesn't seem like that

lay off the CGI please. remember the cat lady nurses? that was makeup. I remember. it was much more effective

THE MUSICAL NUMBER????? ARE YOU INSANE????? ARE YOU FUCKING POSSESSED??? RTD YOU USED TO BE MY BROTHER

the doctor crossed into established timelines. that lady working with ruby died on the phone with her hours before the doctor showed up. how did he know where she was, that she was connected to ruby, and that a Christmas tree fell on her? also, I can't stress this enough, THIS IS ALREADY AN ESTABLISHED EVENT. thinks back to the episode where rose saves her dad's life and then that species comes to eat away the infected timeline and destroy it, and how the doctor was furious with her because sometimes people have to die, and if he could go back in time to save people's lives, he would have already saved his planet

what cluster fuck have they done with the doctors backstory. I don't even want to know

I feel like the dialogue wasnt good? like they kept repeating certain phrases. I know bc I've done that in my writing before. it's inefficient

the doctor kept dematerializing the tardis in front of random people -_- you can do it occasionally but the whole point is to go unnoticed so people don't ask questions about the magic box -_-

WHY DID THAT COP AND THE OLD WOMAN NOT CARE?? ABT THE MAGIC BOX DISAPPEARING??

minor gripe but the tardis disappears too quickly. like the door shuts and it disappears.. he's supposed to walk to the console and then hit all the complicated controls. that doesn't take 3 seconds

I must reiterate: THE MUSICAL NUMBER.????????

okay I'm done. it's just bad writing..... erm.. fifteen is fun tho ncuti gatwa looks like he's having a great time and his outfit is lovely. I will give rtd two more episodes to make it right otherwise I'm setting the dogs on him

Thirteen Era Rewatch: Rosa

I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on.

I don’t like that they referred to the TARDIS as ‘it’ and ‘thing’, it sounds wrong lmao

I like that 13 jumps in front of everyone after Ryan gets hit but then Yaz jumps in front of her and basically takes more control than 13 does for a second

I’ve seen people say that 13 should’ve done more during this ep to defend Ryan/Yaz from the racism but I don’t think there was much she could’ve done tbh. I think it makes more sense for her to just tell everyone to lay low and be careful bc racism is like, woven into basically everything there. It’s not like in S10 when 12 slapped a racist and then the worst that happened is him and Bill got tied up, if the they up too much of a fight in Alabama everyone else around them would’ve been on their ass and things would just get worse.

Thirteen continuing her trend of confronting the bad guys when the fam aren’t there to properly see it, basically hiding that side of herself so the fam just think of her as a happy spacewoman. Don’t understand how people can see confrontation scenes like this and come out of it thinking 13 doesn’t have any authority and isn’t threatening. She’s great??

I know people say they were tryna plant seeds for Ryan and Yaz getting together but tbh I’ve always seen that scene more as two friends/siblings who never compliment each other just being awkward but idk, it might just be bc I’ve always got my Thasmin goggles on

I love all the small references to 13 being a woman. Acknowledging that it’s a change but not making it a big deal. Tho we do so it in how she acts. Like I think chances are if she was a man, she would have handled Ryan being hit slightly differently

I love Ryan and Yaz’s chat while they’re hiding and also Ryan and Rosa’s chat outside Rosa’s house. I find it interesting that Ryan can have these deep chats with other people but will brush Graham off most of the time.

Love how much Grace is brought up in this episode. I feel like it would’ve been very easy to kinda forgot about her and not bring her up that often even tho she’s a big part of Ryan/Graham’s arcs

I really don’t care that Krasko doesn’t have any motives other than being a massive racist. He doesn’t need another motive, people who just Are racist for no real reason actually do exist. Not every racist needs an explanation behind it (like Joan in HN/Fob). He’s also not the main focus. We don’t need some fancy fleshed out space racist with a sad backstory for this ep when the focus is supposed to be on Rosa and her story.

I don’t get how some people think this episode is them taking the choice away from Rosa or causing it to happen? The whole point is that this is what Rosa does herself but Krasko is in the way trying to stop it so The Doctor and co have to keep it on track. They don’t force or persuade Rosa to do anything. She chooses to stay seated. The only thing is the Doctor and co just happened to be there when it took place.

I love that Ryan is the one to get rid of Krasko. I’m sure ppl have complained about how 13 doesn’t care that Ryan shot Krasko off into the far future but like… he’s a space racist so why would she care? Ryan didn’t kill him or anything, he just sent him somewhere else.

Seeing Graham not want to be involved in what’s happening but have no choice is kinda interesting idk

I find the moments where Yaz is kinda stuck in the middle and doesn’t know what she should do pretty interesting. Like, she is allowed to sit in the white area of the bus but also she is getting called a Mexican and hiding behind bins from the police.

I like the talk at the end about Rosa’s impact but the asteroid thing is a bit odd. Like idk how her having an asteroid named after her is exactly proof she ‘changed the universe’. Don’t asteroids and stars get named all kinds of random shit??

Carrying on the theme of talking about what we know about the characters - 13 keeps mostly happy around the fam but goes off on her own to confront the bad guy. Yaz is authoritative, showing her police training, and says she likes/wants to be in charge. Graham and Ryan have a better relationship than the previous eps but Ryan is still iffy with him sometimes.

I'm not usually one to focus on the negative side of things, but Graves is kicking my ass. I'm becoming more and more convinced it's gonna win.

If you don't know, Graves Disease is a chronic illness I've had for years. It means my metabolism doesn't exist, my heart rate is always too high, I'm constantly off balance, my hands shake, and I cant exercise very long or I'll hyperventilate or faint.

I don't have a doctor's appointment for another month.

If I die, I want to let you all know that I love everyone of you. I love Tumblr, I love my friends, and I love the huge amount of support I've gotten. I will never take that for granted.

I've always tried to be nice, kind, supportive, and loving. If I ever failed this, I am so sorry. That was never my intention.

Hey everyone!

As we move into 2023, I wanted to reflect about the past year and talk about my plans for the upcoming months. Overall, I think 2022 went off better than I expected. Several great things happened, but I’ll mention a few that really impacted me:

✨I got into the monthly theme mode. This kept the blog well organized, and allowed me to tackle important blog lore. Also, you guys really got into it too, which is what I originally wanted! I received plenty of asks to keep me busy and for the most part I was able to answer them in time if they connected to a certain month’s theme.

✨Blog interaction increased exponentially. This was a big one that I did not expect. I have to give a special shout-out to the X-Men side of my followers. I have never received this much attention before, and it was thanks to you guys that more of my followers felt confident sending in asks/comments/DMs. Besides the asks sent in to me, I’ve also got a big backlog of asks for the blog. Seriously, blog interaction really popped off cause of the X-Men fans. I think this thing started off because I was super curious about the Krakoa situation, and a few of my followers actually responded and spent part of their time to educate me. This has been going on for months and it makes me feel REALLY happy that you guys care enough to talk to me about this stuff.

I’ve mentioned this before, but knowing that there’s a section of my followers who are X-Men fans is very important for content creation. Now I know I have a certain audience and can personalize my content for them! This is not to say I’m gravitating all my future content toward Doctor Strange’s relationship toward the X-Men, these are just things I keep in mind. Asks are the driving point of this blog, and right now the X-Men fans are the most vocal. But we’ll see what happens with that in the future 😉.

I’m very thankful to all of you (not just the X-Men folks!), and I hope we can continue this relationship. If there’s any crazy incident happening on another side of the Marvel universe that you think may interest me as a Doctor Strange blog, let me know! I'm mostly partial to the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man. My asks/DMs are always open. This goes double for any DC comic fans out there too!

✨Art improvement. My art is the biggest selling point of this blog. Comic book illustration is such an amazing subsection of the art field. I grew up making comics, and I love seeing my progress in this year alone. I’m becoming more confident with drawing bodies and hairstyles. Faces are a work in progress, and I’m even experimenting with color schemes! I’m not an art student, so there are things that I have to learn all by myself. I don’t make art with improvement in mind, I just think of an idea I want to execute and then go for it. If I happen to draw something better than I did before, then yay me! But I literally draw everyday, and practicing overtime does show change. I’m super proud of myself and I’m amazed at how far I’ve grown from the end of 2021 to now. I hope you too have enjoyed seeing my progress. I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish next year, I hope you’ll join me on that journey as well!

Looking forward, I have some wishlist plans for next year, this includes:

Monthly themes featuring: the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and the Scarlet Witch. Asks sometimes do drive the themes, so if I get an influx of asks about a certain character or situation, I’ll dedicate a month or so to it.

Speaking of certain characters, because I will be quickly moving this blog to match canon’s current timeline, I will not have a month dedicated to Clea’s time as a Sorcerer Supreme. Disappointingly, I have not enjoyed her run as much as I have wanted to. Maybe this feeling will change by the end of the Strange (2022) series, but this conflicts with the blog timeline that I have planned (this does not mean you cannot send asks to her and co. about her experience). I also won’t speak about the blog’s posting schedule in a separate post like I usually do. This is because there will be no “monthly themes” until further notice. Doctor Strange’s new series starts in March of 2023, and the blog will be just about caught up by then. My current plans for the next few months are going to be hitting major plot points like Krakoa, Doctor Strange’s death arc, and Clea’s Supreme arc. You'll actually start to see a bit of a... shift starting in February (hint hint, wink wink). I hope you will follow along as the plot thickens and send in asks when needed!

I also want to know what other types of content I should cover. The art on my blog always comes first, but there are more things that I can get into. I can make more graphics, gifs, and even commentate on some parts of the series. For example, one thing I tried to set up is my new Character Design mini-series, so I could play around with ideas like those.

I would also be interested in any collabs. While I am an artist first, I’m also open to writing and any other ideas you may come up with. Actually, it’s one of my biggest dreams as an ask blog to interact with other (art) ask blogs. Please DM me at any time if this sounds like something you would want to be a part of!

Finally, I wanted to end this off with a big THANK YOU, to my followers, and everyone else who pops by the blog. Scarborough Ahoy! (1994, dir. Tania Diez) - This is a half-hour short film that you can watch on YouTube! It's very 90s, but it's an interesting snippet of complex character work. Stars Con O'Neill!

1408 (2007, dir. Mikael Håfström) - I watched this because I'd die for Samuel L. Jackson and he's fucking great in this, but it's also just a cool little horror flick that does some interesting wheels-within-wheels existential horror, based off of a Stephen King story! Good performance from John Cusack too, does a lot of cool details-oriented stuff.

Class Action Park (2020, dir. Seth Porges & Chris Charles Scott III) - This is a documentary about Action Park, an amusement/water park in Vernon, New Jersey in the 1980s - it's unbelievably fucked up, all about how the park showed a continuous disregard for health and safety and were able to pay their way out of showing any regard, and the whole time it does make you groan in horror out loud. It's tonally pretty off, swapping between grieving mothers and insufferable yanks who are like "Omg but it was so COOL, I know people died but like, we didn't! we were badass!" but it's still worth a watch.

Disney's Fast Pass: A Complicated History (from Defunctland) - This is fucking sick, it's a documentary-length deep dive into the history of Disneyland's queueing systems and how they've impacted queueing throughout the world and varying industries, and it's really cool, I was riveted the entire time. I have autism btw.

What is Gentle Parenting? A Therapist's Thoughts On This TikTok Phenomenon (from Mickey Atkins) - I love Mickey's channel and her work in general, but this was an interesting examination of different parenting styles and a quick little examination of the impact those different styles have on people as they develop as children and grow into adults.

Harlots (cr. Alison Newman & Moira Buffini) - You guys know I live for complex portrayals of trauma and sex work respectively, plus anything set in the 18th century, and boom, here we go! Gorgeously written and depicted, really wonderful characterisation and a lot of great interplays that play a lot with intersections of class, gender, race, and all the while every single character has their own deep motivations, many with specific traumas or particularities etc. It's just really great work.

In the Old Testament, Israel (who was formerly named Jacob; see Genesis 32:28) wrestles with an angel. I see your "Izzy Hands is the only human in an all-Muppet TV show" and your "Izzy Hands is trapped in the wrong genre" and I raise you: Izzy Hands is the unwitting victim of a cosmic shift of the very rules of reality, now applying sitcom rules to his life instead of the real life ones that had governed him beforehand. This is, for him, horrifying in the manner of anything Eldritch and incomprehensible.

For the rest of the crew, it just seems like First Mate Hands is having a bit of a breakdown, and they really wish he'd stop.

For Izzy, this is existential horror at its worst - for the reader, dark comedy. I just love to make him suffer.

Hmmm I was gonna say i don’t have THAT much to say about her time at uni because I don’t actually know much about what happened other than what I’ve already written.......but then I got thinking about the thing with the Doctor, Rose and Mickey, and it’s REALLY BUGGING ME because I swear I talked to someone about this in the last couple of months but I cannot. for the LIFE of me. find that conversation anywhere. Like I very vividly remember talking over it with someone. It must have been on a voice chat or something but ughhhhhhh. Anyway. Slightly bothered that i actually talked about it on HERE already but tumblr search won’t find it because it sucks ksksks. I don’t think i did, though, so here we go:

TBH there’s not thaaaat much in it. Essentially, Jack doesn’t know the Doctor when she first goes to uni, and she meets Rose a lot sooner (a la, yknow, the actual show) and they’re fast friends. Rose is dating Mickey at the time, and now I’m typing this out I’m even more sure I already told someone this because the deja vu of typing all this is killing me, but basically the Doctor swoops in, completely ignoring any romantic dynamics, drags Rose off into a bunch of ridiculous situations regarding things she’s investigating, and Mickey is kinda like ‘hang on.....what’s happening here’ SKSKS WHICH IS LIKE. Fair of him, tbh, because the Doctor is also a bit of a lot of a dick and probably doesn’t stay as oblivious as she likes to pretend, but wants Rose to hang out with her over everything else, and doesn’t give a damn about Mickey enough to not. Do that. Sorry Mickey. Rose does not cheat on Mickey with the Doctor, but Mickey and the Doctor are certainly constantly snapping at each other and Mickey is like. Hm. Anyway, it ends messily but over time I think the pair of them actually end up coming around and start vaguely communicating. The fact that Rose is like ‘I’m friends with both of you, actually, and so I want you to be nice to each other at least’ does make an impact, and even after Rose and Mickey split up, they stay good friends. But in between them not liking each other and them being cordial, Jack ends up befriending the Doctor, which is why Mickey has the knee jerk reaction of not liking Jack that much, because he’s this guy hanging out with the dickhead all the time. Actually, to be fair to Mickey, I expect what probably happened was that the Doctor was being, well, the Doctor, and Jack kinda followed suit and so then Mickey was like ‘great now there’s two of them’ - BUT, as seen in part 4, they’re all like.....friendly? Especially Jack and Mickey. And like. Ok actually Mickey really fascinates me here with the little interaction that Jack overhears in part 4 because it’s like...idk, there’s a lot of lingering dislike there, but I think Mickey fundamentally gets the Doctor, at least to some degree, probably thanks to some long conversations with Rose, and maybe a couple of very short ones with the Doctor SKSKSK - but like. Idk. Rose likes the Doctor a lot, and Mickey has probably seen the Doctor in her element at least once, which means he’d have some kind of begrudging respect for her. And then the same goes both ways, because Mickey can definitely come into his own when the moment calls for it. But like, despite the fact that they’re definitely Not Friends....he sits with her in that hospital. And he genuinely tries to talk to her and relate to her, and help her when she’s more vulnerable than she’s ever allowed herself to be in front of him, or anyone in her life at that point. Does it work? No, lol, but yknow. There’s something in the fact that he tries.

Anyway you probably didn’t want a ramble about the doctor and mickey but that’s what you got sksks
