This made her incredibly scared of what to do next

Should she tell you and risk it? Or should she keep it a secret, possibly destroy your trust and have you end up dying?

I can see her seriously having to fight between choosing her heart or brain and ultimately deciding to tell you.

When she ultimately ends up telling you she’s surprised by how understanding you are and is honestly really touched.

We all know how it ends up going, she goes to the spider society and basically is nowhere to be seen.

So it’s good to say the pain you feel and how lonely it can be without her there.

Of course she’ll go against the spider society’s wishes and try to visit you but ima be real, I don’t see it working out.

Regardless of it, she’ll always see you as her Mary Jane

If you end up meeting her the same time as Miles in the first movie then it’d be difficult getting in touch with her if you’re from another dimension, not a spider society member, or apart of the same dimension as miles.

If you end up getting acquainted again in the second movie she’s so happy to see you again, especially because she finally sees a familiar face.

Anyway, if you’re a spider person then you’ll more than likely meet her after her fight with her dad.

Then, she’s closed off and very obviously doesn’t “want to talk about it”.

(Which she’ll obviously be no matter how u met)

But eventually because of how history repeats itself with members in the spider society- Gwen ends up being able to see herself with you, and besides you.

The way you understand her like no one else does and how your reassurance soothes her more than that of others really ties it all together.

Not to mention how, despite being from different dimensions, you can be anywhere and she’ll still always want to be with you.

Let’s ignore the angst for a second and get into fluff a bit more.

The only reason y’all ever met was because of Hobie

He was your wingman from the start

You’d usually chill in his dimension so when Gwen came along you just went with it

Which ended up being amazing

Most times, not only in hobies but also other dimensions you two swing around, hiding behind the veil of your secret identities.

Most times you quickly go back to civilian form and enjoy restaurants or places that weren’t or didn’t exist yet in your dimensions.

You’d go out to eat and experience new things together.

Of course it’s always fun to go places and be in public-

But it gets incredibly intimate when the two of you are behind closed doors.

You were currently in hobies dimension and after a particularly rough night fighting both you and Gwen settled where she was currently crashing.

“Uhh if you’d like you can go ahead and change over there” was what Gwen said, motioning another room.

“K” and after changing into pjs you returned to her current room with her.

Once she gave you the cue to come in again you tip toed over her stray clothes and shoes and settled in bed next to her.

-A habit that formed due to both your constant nightmares.

The both of you didn’t even need to ask and both ended up cuddling, waking up to Hobie chuckling to himself when the two of y’all got up and realized how you slept.

After that there was definitely tension and it broke after the two of you had enough and confessed.

Although, she tends to be closed off and not really communicate well when things happen.

In this case, things can be really difficult but it tends to work out in the end, especially because of her knowing she could lose you but also you most likely know how she feels.

Now, if the situation were to be the other way around

She’ll probably try and get it out of you, that’s her first response

However, she soon realizes how that’s not helping and opts for giving you space for you to think and breathe.

Regardless of what you like it ends or starts (if you prefer a quieter birthday) with the two of you just lazily lounging around or if wanting to get some adrenaline then you’ll sneak into a dimension with the New York we know and just chill there.

When it comes to kisses I can imagine your first one being sudden and out of nowhere.

Now, she’ll run up to you and kiss you on your cheek and even kiss you while you’re in your spider suites

sweet anon you are both in the PR stage you're in love with an idea right now, not a person--not saying you do not genuinely like her but you do not know each other enough to have a grasp of her as a person, you only know how she makes you feel and all these feelings are a response to something from within you: they are hopes and projections fuelled by excitement and maybe a dash of novelty which is very common (and normal, we've all been there) but they can create a bit of a smokescreen that makes it harder to look at your situation clearly, if that makes sense.

i think it will be helpful to try and pause for a bit to ask yourself where those feelings are coming from and what they are in response to-- what exactly is it she gives you that you have not had before? what is her presence representing for you? why is this so important to you? when you are thinking about her constantly, what exactly are those thoughts about? are they in the here and now, or an imagined future? are they based on anything solid she has said or done, or are they more your own daydreams and hopes taking centre stage? is there anything in your life that you feel is lacking or empty and that these feelings are a welcome distraction from?

again, absolutely not dismissing your feelings here but i think it's very easy sometimes to let the excitement of finding someone we like (and who likes us back) run away with us sometimes. at this stage, because it is so early, and because you don't know someone enough they are, essentially, kind of a blank slate for you to pin your own feelings and hopes to--as i said, everyone goes through this at some point, but it's important to try and maintain awareness of this so that you are able to be attentive to the other person as a person, and yourself, too, in a way that is fair to the both of you and allows you to express yourselves, and meet each other, openly and honestly. most realisations we have about a person in these scenarios first require us to know that person for themselves--and this takes time.

i think it's important, right now, that you allow yourself to keep busy and remain active in your life outside of your dates and conversations with the girl you're seeing--not saying to ignore her at all, but to make sure you have other lines of focus too and not to neglect whatever you enjoyed doing, or the other relationships, activities etc that you had before her: keep in touch and meet up with your friends often, or set little goals for yourself during the week--eg., "i'll get in an hour at the gym on thursday" "i'll go for a swim" "i'll try this new restaurant with a friend" "i'll go to the cinema to see xyz" "i'm going to try and make this recipe for lunch / dinner / dessert" etc.

forcing yourself not to think about someone is borderline impossible and is only going to make them an even more powerful presence in your mind (trying not to think about something requires, by definition, that you do think about them which makes for a fabulously frustrating circle) so the best thing to do is to limit how much free time you actually have to do that thinking in--this way your brain is occupied enough that it cannot spend as long fantasising and YOU can stay relatively sane.

i hope your interactions with this girl go well, anon, and i hope that as much as you can, you're able to check in with yourself and understand how you're feeling so you can put everything into a more intentional and aware framework for yourself as your feelings evolve. hope this helps even just a little, sending you lots of love (and support!!) 🤍

one day, you sort of let it slip that your parents died in a house fire and you lost practically everything, and how the fortune and a few other things were all that you had left. not to mention how this count olaf guy kept trying to steal it all.

you never saw ace that serious, and deuce that sad. they comforted you and genuinely respect your mental fortitude to keep going. you allowed them to use the spyglass when the three of you become very close, around when the scarabia chapter finished.

you do NOT fall for his scam. in fact, you call it out. when he tries to send the tweels after you, you know how to evade them each time. you really piss him off, you know that?

chapter 3 goes by a lot quicker because of you. when you come up to him saying you’d like to rethink the contract, he assumes he has you entrapped. of course he’s suspicious, but you just seem so desperate. and it’s his job to help poor, unfortunate souls like you.

and then you proceed to Bamboozle his ass

when he overblots, he’s surprised at how understanding you are. he expected a sneer from everyone apart from the tweels, but it was just kindness.

that’s where a develops a “minuscule” “fleeting” crush on you

(spoilers, it is not minuscule nor fleeting. you can tell.)

maybe, when you finally get into a relationship, he’ll show you his octopus form willingly this time, and you in turn open up about all of your struggles back at home.

you make him these mini inventions sometimes. he loves everything you do.

you didn’t interest him too much at first, but a magicless human from triton-knows-where was enough to get him investigating. however you seemed very on guard, which was inconvenient enough.

he supposed he’d have to result to more invasive methods to sate his curiosity when you signed a contract with azul, but you had this… look in your eyes. he keeps quiet, but he knows you may be much more entertaining than he thought.

okay, he’s VERY interested now that chapter 3 is over. bro shows up at your house.

he sees all your inventions, and realises how easily you manage to survive in such a run down house. of course he doesn’t directly ask you, but while he’s attempting to lull you into a sense of trust, he ends up slowly but surely falling in love.

he finds it inconvenient. honestly too cliche, but a small part of him, that hopeless romantic part of him that came straight from his mother, tells him that he better put “have a candlelit dinner with you” on his bucket list.

once he finally worms his way into your heart, you have the guts and courage to tell him about all your struggles. he listens intently, complimenting how strong you are. when you tell him about count olaf and his subordinates, a sort of danger flashes across his eyes. it’s gone the next second.

he finds all your skills very interesting. it’s become a game between you two where he hides riddles in things he gives you and you decipher them.

when jade sees how you react to the sea, he questions the forlorn look in your eyes. he’s super understanding when you tell him it reminds you of your aunt.

once again, he marvels at how tough and smart you are. you are simply perfect for him.

physiologically, children who aren’t fed well at a very young age (a couple of months and older) develop the need to feed themselves, even if that means stealing food. it’s sort of rooted in their brain that this is what they need to do to survive. that they’ll always have to fend for themselves if that means eating. given levi had to do that for most of his life, going above ground where there’s food just wouldn’t feel right. it’s likely he stole food even when he knew they’d be getting fed regularly. because his mind and body is set on survival, because he subconsciously thinks he won’t be fed. even if HE himself knows there will be food tomorrow. that’s something someone cannot grow out of because it’s planted in their heads at a young age. it takes incredible therapy and work to get that mindset out of your head, and given therapy is something levi definitely did not get, he probably had that habit for a long time :(

making myself sad with the thought of erwin catching him stealing food in the middle of the night and asking if he was hungry/didn’t eat enough and levi’s just like “i don’t know.. i just feel like i’d need this.”

“I don’t understand… Was there not enough to eat? That can easily be settled, Levi. All you’d need to do is inform me, and extra rations would be made available to you.”

“Are you serious…”

“Yes,” he answers confidently. “You’re my most important soldier. As well as… important.”

Erwin looks at him meaningfully, silently pleading for an answer. But that’s not it. That’s not it at all. He made himself sick and heavy from how much he ate tonight.

Erwin, by looking at him, can tell that Levi is gathering words to say, and doesn’t interrupt.

“No, it’s fine. Don’t know why I did it.”

“Does this happen often?”

Levi averts his eyes, his silence as confirmation.

Erwin steps forward then, and touches Levi’s shoulder, all despite what he did. No matter what, Erwin doesn’t touch him like he’s handling a loaded gun. He completely trusts him, which both scares and comforts Levi to a startling degree.

“Come to mine. We can discuss this in private.”

Not his office. If Erwin said his office, they’d be going there. This is something just between them.

Levi follows.

Attached to Erwin’s office, ironically, is the rest of his quarters. Erwin goes straight to the bedroom, which is as private as it gets. Besides the bathroom of course, the bedroom is a contained room with a door Levi can close, which he does with a whispered click, and then sits at the small round table near the bed itself.

Erwin sits there, on the side, and unsurprisingly speaks first. “I want you to feel comfortable expressing any concerns you might have.”

That’s it?

Levi narrows his eyes. “Do you not remember when I complained about our pants? Our white uniform pants?” Then he grumbles, “You can’t get grass stains out of ‘em. Let alone blood.”

“Hm,” Erwin chuckles. “I meant personal concerns.”

This stumps him. “…I haven’t found a solution. There’s no point asking for help. There’s nothin’ you can do, so why would I?”

“There’s no ‘solution’ to grief, either, is there, Levi… Or to nightmares? And yet…”

And yet they confide in each other about shit like that. Levi himself is shitty at giving comfort, let alone seeking it, but he admits being held after one of them—just burying himself in Erwin’s arms—is a kind of way to solve it. He thinks he does a pretty good job at doing the same for him.

But how, with this? Is Erwin supposed to spoon-feed him or something? Starving seems so normal to him, it’s hard to think of it as suffering, as from death or a nightmare. Erwin didn’t understand, once, how Levi could see prostitution as just another job, like woodworking.

“You can talk to me,” Erwin says. “At times, that in of itself can be a solution.”

“Hm.” He stares at nothing in particular as he thinks. “…It just don’t feel right. It doesn’t feel right,” he corrects himself. “I know there’s plenty of food, Blondie. I know we’re not gonna run out.

“But you don’t… You don’t get it. I still see it as a luxury. Tch, I see enough food in a day now that I’d probably get in about a week, back down there. That’s how it always was—it didn’t matter how much power I had over everyone else… Food just wasn’t there.

“You know that now that I’ve said it, but you don’t get it.” Levi glares, unsure of what or who he’s angry at. “You’ll never get it.”

Erwin listened quietly, intently as Levi explained. Admittedly, it’s rare that he shares about his past, even in vague terms like this. It’s difficult to put those feelings into words, no matter how much he trusts Erwin with that information. It drudges up a bunch of shit Levi wants to leave down there, in the darkness. It’s difficult.

“I see.”

Surprising him, Erwin scoots backwards, and lays down, seemingly pondering something at the ceiling.

Not liking the sudden space between them, Levi realizes Erwin’s trying to make him come closer, which he does begrudgingly. He sits himself on the edge of the bed, where Erwin just was.

Levi shrugs. “So… I just don’t think I can… quit it.”

“I have an idea.”

Erwin and his ideas. There’s a charming glint in his blue eyes.

Levi crawls onto the bed, closing the space between them more, and sits cross-legged beside him. “Hm.”

“It’s simply a matter of numbers, which I’m entrusted with. The Survey Corps is fed improperly in comparison to the others,” Erwin explains. “It’ll no longer be considered a loss if less food subsidies are reported. In fact, we’d benefit from being more low-cost.”

Levi, tight-lipped, stares at him. It’s to keep from smiling. He likes when Erwin talks like this, excited-like. “So fraud. Like the tea.”

Erwin is smirking. “In blatant terms.”

Erwin falsifies black tea shipments in a similar way, and again, for Levi, since it’s a luxury item.

Even so, it can’t be the only time Erwin had done shit like that. That’s how he took down Lovof all that time ago, and screwed with Levi’s job. Erwin knows how not to get caught.

With Erwin’s sanctity preserved, Levi allows himself to relax, and consider the offer. Even though he just can’t seem to stop, he doesn’t waste any morsel, ever, and this way, the Survey Corps won’t suffer either. Like Erwin said, it would benefit.

He feels a strange sickness in his heart that moves him. Erwin would do that for him. Erwin knows how.

“Okay,” he mumbles simply. “That’d be fine, then. Good idea.”

Erwin smiles then, one of his soft, genuine smiles only Levi sees. He uncrosses his ankles and opens his arms, and wordlessly Levi fills that empty space, closing it completely, and sealing it with a soft kiss.

ooo i haven’t given much thought to this one outside of canon weirdly enough!

ok first things first: they’re very close. obviously.

and we know that they’ve been that way since the beginning (see: that one episode where they become babies and immediately get along)

anyway

i think as they grew closer, their inventions got more complex

teamwork makes the dream work and all that

and they have hella connections everywhere, so they’re fantastic at networking

not actually part of this, i just felt like saying it. putting the ad in adhd and all that

but for inventions: as the show goes on, we very clearly see that they do a lot of smaller side projects

example: those baseball things in into the second dimension

i’d like to say that they do those alone, but that isn’t really canon. it’s canon in my heart, though.

so with that headcanon in mind, it shows that they’re constantly willing to work together

however, they’re both very. um. distractable.

ppl hc phineas as adhd and ferb as autistic but they’re both both. to me. in my heart i know it’s true.

and honestly, when you have both? kinda lonely ngl

but with someone else like that, it’s really just. fantastic

and it’s a specific type of closeness that’s hard to define or imitate in any other scenario

ok but back to the distractable thing (lol irony): sometimes they just. forget to listen to each other

example: spy mission betty bus yada yada yada

but i don’t rlly see that getting in the way of their closeness. they just see it as something that’s part of the other that, though sometimes difficult, makes it easier to be themselves around each other simply because if they do the same thing, it’ll be understood and not held against them

which is rlly nice :)

anyway, back to inventing: as seen in the episode with bully bromance in it, neither of them can stand to go long without inventing

which, for most people, is pretty hard to understand

both due to the fact that for most ppl, inventing is a difficult and long process and most ppl quite simply don’t have obsessions like that

the type that itches at your brain and makes u feel like ur losing it until u go and do the Thing

regardless! my point: both of them have a lot of traits that they share that most ppl simply won’t understand

example: candace in general lmao. two way street with that one tho

and i could go with the whole “only they understand each other” thing but that’s stupid and i hate it

but there’s very few ppl that understand them and for most of they it quite simply isn’t at the level that they understand each other

thankfully, though, they aren’t too codependent on each other, as seen in act your age and that time where they talk to their mom in the future

everyone knows god watches over drunkards and lovers: aka this is my extremely self indulgent rpf Scenario that i have been rotating around in my brain since dec 2022 otherwise known as ons au. if you don't wanna read about my gayass band guys look away now. you have been Warned

this au STARTS during the time period tim and ben are roommates in nürnberg. they both know matze, but not gustl (matze knows gustl tho). also you MUST be thinking about these images like this is the start of ons au

anyways. INCITING SCENE:

ben and matze are out wreaking havoc and/or chilling at matze's place or something. basically they're out of tim+ben's place for the night

tim is spending his night bringing home a guy for a one night stand (this is where the au gets its name from). also important: tim's ons looks. Unsettlingly like ben. like, long blond hair, facial hair, tall. if you saw them next to eachother you'd go Hmmmmmm.

anyways. they have a fun night it's fine. tim is like. heart not fully in the spirit of the ons but doesn't know why. but it doesn't ruin any of the fun so it's fine.

next morning, they wake up. tim makes breakfast for them (bc he is a good host) and goes to walk unnamed blonde guy out. however, as they're walking out, guess who is coming back into the apartment? yeah, it's ben and matze.

there's a comedic bit opening the door with:

ben and matze: tired and a little hungover but like. otherwise fine. they just like. chilled and stayed up at matze's apartment and now they're heading over to ben's

vs

tim and unnamed blond guy: tim is like. you can tell he had a ons or whatevs. like. in a tank and u can see some bruises + hickeys or whatever. still has a collar on bc he managed to sleep in it somehow. poor unnamed blonde guy who looks suspiciously like ben is just standing there awkardly

we get a full faceoff that goes:

matze: looks at tim. looks at unnamed blonde guy. looks over at ben. looks back at tim and starts opening his mouth tim: looks at ben. looks over at blonde guy. looks back at ben. OhShit.JPG. turns to look at matze and starts FRANTICALLY beaming Don't Say A Fucking Word vibes at him as hard as possible ben: looks at blond guy. Huh. whatever. then looks at tim. The mechanisms in his brain that end up making him act crazy gay later on start turning into motion unnamed blond guy: looks at ben. then looks over to tim. He Understands Now.

anyways, this all happens simultaneously. everyone then shakes out of it. ben and matze head inside (ben is like. fuck this im sleepy and hungover. bye matze im going. to bed. and matze is like. ok. i am going to wait in the living room for tim i want to say hi to him :)).

meanwhile, tim and unnamed blond guy head outside. Blonde Guy: that was nice, i had fun and hope you did too, good luck with your guy tim: yeah i had a great time too, thank y– wait what? Blonde Guy: you know. the other blonde guy who came in. tim: What Blonde Guy: clearly there is something going on here between you guys + you seemed not Fully Into It at some points last night + i think that’s probably why tim: [going through internal crisis. Fuck. DO i want to fuck ben/do i like him????]

anyways, blonde guy says goodbye to tim and heads out. afterwards tim just kind of stands in the hallway for a little bit like Oh My God What Just Happened. anyways. we should all be giving it up for Blonde Guy he is a literal saint

tim walks back inside, continuing his internal crisis

cue matze, sitting ominously on the couch

matze: sooooooo. what was that about. who was that. why did your ONS look suspiciously like ben tim: Don't Say A Fucking Word matze: are you in love with ben? do you want to f tim: shut the fuck up dude he's literally in the fucking apartment

so matze is like: executive decision. we are going back to my place to discuss this.

at matze’s place:

matze: what was that. Are you in love with ben. tim: Shut the fuck up dude i think i might be a little bit but if you say anything i’ll kill you

after these events matze goes to gustl and is like Gustl i’ve told you about my friends tim and ben right. well you will NOT believe the shit i just saw

OTHER MISCELLANEOUS STUFF BEFORE FELSENFEST PREPRODUCTION TRIP:

OK. that was the inciting scene, and what gives ons au it's name. now in between this and the felsenfest preproduction trip not a Whole ton happens in terms of the au with tim and ben. like, the band starts, and tim and ben are still getting up to their usual nonsense, but not to the Current Crazy Levels

fschwanz are also present in this au, but to a lesser level. here is a chart of the dtag/fschwanz dynamic:

ALSO during this period of time: ben/hauptmann fwb situation. it's just kind of inevitable with them. like, they're kissing eachother on and off stage, calling eachother mine ("mein hauptmann/mein hodi"), etc. they're both normal about it though it's just a fun/sweet little thing.

However. Tim also knows about this (note: he did merch for fschwanz just to tour. dtag and fschwanz are often on similar festivals). and ben/hauptmann aren't trying to Hide it. this leads to a dynamic that is like:

but like, it's fine. the ben/hauptmann fwb scenario eventually breaks off, everyone is still happy and chill witheachother (hauptmann is also a saint for being able to move through All Of This with no issues whatsoever)

FELSENFEST PREPRODUCTION TRIP:

EXPOSITION: for those who don't know: in 2022 tim, ben, and felix (their producer, not taugenix) went up to tyrol for a couple of days to record/write for felsenfest. they rent a little airbnb or whatever. it's cute. now obvs i don’t have the accurate floor plans for it. but. to the best of my knowledge from the video from the patreon (and with some artistic liberties: there are only two bedrooms (and thus beds) (also one of the rooms has like… a nice big tv and the other one Does Not)

so anyways it's like. ben is. i am still undecided on if he knows he's in love or not but like at the very least he does know he's attracted to tim. he's like. not dating or anything tho, and the fwb situation with hauptmann is over

tim is like. fully aware he's in love with ben at this point. just like years and years of pining. also not dating or anything just the occasional ons or whatever

ANYWAYS. they have a nice roadtrip down to tyrol. they get to the house, start unpacking. Hey. Wait. this place only has two bedrooms. we're gonna have three people here. Uh Oh. so tim and ben are both like. ok. whatever. felix (who gets there a day later) can sleep on the couch or something + they both claim a room. the rest of their day is just hiking and having fun, it's nice, tim is tragically in love

like honestly most of this part is like. tim looks at the way the sun hits ben's profile. oh god im sooooooooooooo fucked. it's all Vibes

post hike, tim makes dinner, cute little domestic scene. somehow they come to the consensus of ‘hey let’s watch a movie or something it’s only like 7 o’clock'.

the only tv is in ben's room + because of great airbnb decor choices, the tv is just in front of the bed. and there aren’t like…. any comfy chairs.

but that’s fine, movies are better watched on a bed anyways. i’m undecided on the movie they watch but i’m thinking they settle on lord of the rings. because they are both nerds.

at this bit there’s a lot of ‘oh god how close can i sit/lay next to him without it being weird’ but it’s mostly resolved by the fact that the comfiest and best way to watch has them both super close anyways.

anyways. like… half of the way through the movie tim starts like falling asleep and leaning onto ben + then jerking awake and watching the movie again. rinse repeat a couple of times and then eventually tim is just like. totally asleep on ben. very comfy. movie ends and ben is like well i can’t just wake him up? there is CLEARLY no other alternative here, i guess we’ll just have to share the bed tonight.

next morning. tim wakes up slowly. goes ‘huh… this is a weirdly large pillow. wait that’s ben. What’! and while this is going on the sunlight is filtering thru the window onto ben. the most beautiful spring morning you could have. all blues and golds. tim carefully extricates himself from this situation and goes to make breakfast because he doesn’t know what to do with himself and staying that close would probably be bad for his mental state AND god forbid felix ends up arriving during that and sees it. like…. if this somehow gets back to matze (who takes great joy in tim’s predicament), god forbid, tim might actually die.

anyways. breakfast! sweet domestic morning + then felix arrives

felix is like i do Not care what you guys decided before i got here about the bed situation. i am not sleeping with EITHER of you. tim and ben are like ok no big deal, we can share (both not mentioning last night). we get the nice room with the tv tho. tim grabs his stuff (barely touched) from the other room and moves it over and that’s that. everyone say thanks felix for helping encourage these mutual pining shennanigans

the rest of day 2 is pretty uneventful, mostly producing and stuff. another fun hike (this time with felix) and doing a little bit of recording outside (fun!)

evening now! felix goes to his room, sees that the bed has like, not been touched at all, and goes ‘huh. i will not think about this any further’

meanwhile tim and ben are doing the ‘let’s not make this awkward and pretend nothing out of the ordinary is going (this is making things more awkward).’ song and dance. but it’s fine + they both fall asleep (separate). but you know how it is and the next morning they both wake up inextricably tangled up together. it’s just like. achingly soft i can’t convey this properly through text. tim pretends to be asleep longer than he is just to stay like that for a tiny bit longer.

day 3, more recording and then packing up!

nothing more eventful happens honestly, it’s just continual little scenes that are just like. tim being like. ‘fuck. this is the closest to having him i’ll ever get’. that’s really the whole trip honestly i cannot convey it properly it’s just all these achingly tender little moments during dinner and hiking and recording and the evenings together and both of them think it’s all they can get. Augh

CURRENT DAY, NOW WHAT?:

💮💮Heyyy, I have a really annoying pet peeve in romance fanfiction and wanted to know your opinion.

So I really hate it when the author goes like "x characher was in love with y character" despite them not even being friends?!?

And then they continue on to say that how x character was jealous and insecure about z character (who is presumably a hot person).

Although I don't see it as impossible, I dislike it when the pacing is too fast like, how can you be in love with someone who your not even friends with. You don't even know the person on a surface level basis, like how???

And from my understanding of love, it stems from feelings of trust, deep understanding and such, it seems like the author is describing a crush but framing it as love just cause they were too lazy to go in depth about how they were strangers to friend to pining idiots to lovers u know?

And I'm not saying all fics should go into every little detail about x and ys relationship, but at least make them friend (so the reader does the imagining) or just take the easy route and go x just had a crush. Idk am I just too sensitive abt these thing?

i think this, in part, stems from romanticizing... romance, if that makes sense. as in, being enamored with the tropes of love/romance/falling in love/heavily cliched "love at first sight" premises, etc. when most of what we see in popular media just... isn't realistic or even relatable to the average person who has been in love

you can have a CRUSH on someone if you don't know them well. you can have immediate sexual or physical attraction to a complete stranger (i mean, that's what porn is, right?), you might even feel jealousy over this person being around others (this one is a toxic trait linked heavily with insecurity and immaturity, in general), etc.

but no, i don't believe in any kind of "love at first sight" mantra that many fics and headcanons unfortunately fall into because it's bullshit and not real lol. it's one thing i guess to... write about 😍😍😍 this fairytale-esque idea of just KNOWING you're in love with this person you barely know. maybe the "mysterious stranger" appeal is in there somewhere, or the "they're so cool/unapproachable/popular that i'd never have a chance, so i'll just fantasize an imaginary version of them in my head that seems like my perfect match in every way and then project that onto the REAL character/person who might not really act like that at all, destroying the fantasy"

the horrible pacing is also annoying. i mean... there's a reason my fic is fucking 500k words at this point and uhhh for 3/4 of that, "love" was not in the mix. this is kiiiiinda why scenarios where they start off as just barely knowing each other or friends-of-friends or polite coworkers or something tosses me for a loop when all of a sudden things go from 3 to 99 really fucking quickly with like, zero buildup or anticipation.

but its also people writing what they want for free on the internet that's, in most cases, completely self indulgent and less for us as content consumers and more as "i wanna write this thing" where real scenarios have little say (i have a *thing* against yandere/abuse/really imbalanced power dynamics/age gaps being romanticized and easily publicly accessible because it can and does give the wrong impression about certain situations that put irl people in danger. there's def those ppl out there who will see a stalking/obsession/controlling dynamic in a fic and think it would be awesome to have someone obsessed with them, some kind of dream come true... and like yes! those types of kinks do exist! and can happen SAFELY with CONSENTING ADULTS who are into that! but not everyone (esp minors, no offense, sorry) who stumble on this kind of thing might be able to distinguish between consenting kink and romanticizing abuse)

More specifically maybe grown up stsg where they’re a little more mature and have more of a grasp on how to help you better.. maybe reader has a nightmare or something, goes out for a smoke on the balcony etc etc.. sugu meets them out there n. They just have a good old fashioned talk like :( just being honest and vulnerable because it’s late and u just need a hug most of all :(( def ends with him carrying reader back to bed n playing with ur hair until you fall back asleep GODDDD KILL ME NOW ☹️☹️ moments of tenderness/vulnerability are my absolutely favourite thing in writing/shows/etc ESPECIALLY when it’s from characters that usually don’t display those sort of feelings because you just know it means there’s such a strong bond between them…. Can u hear my heart breaking

^^ either this one or reader with trust issues that’s a little cat-like personality wise (which I think fits so beautifully because stsg are the most wolf coded boys ever) who’s fully convinced they’re better off on their own, they don’t need friends or people to rely on. Until they meet stsg!!!!! Because suddenly there are two irritatingly charming losers following you around and worming their way into your heart and you just. Physically cannot bring yourself to deny them, even if it’s a little scary allowing people in. And god i think it would make them feel SO special once you started warming up to them. Julie tugs against the rather short dress Flynn had squeezed her in, not caring for how much she looks like a glorified candy wrapper in the shimmering gold.

She feels like she's some Ferrer Roche, waiting to be devoured.

Which seems to be her intention for tonight because she's insane, and so is her bestie Flynn, because she's supposed to grab the attention of a certain someone in this club.

Her motives for tonight sound like they come straight out of a Wattpad story, but her boyfriend- or well maybe an ex boyfriend now'- forced her hand.

So a year ago, right around the time they started dating, they both disclosed their 'hall passes'. Just a list of celebrities they were both 'allowed' to cheat on their partners with. It was fun. Just to see who the other person would pick. 

It was harmless because the whole point is that these people are so famous, so far out of reach, that the odds of hooking up with them would be essentially impossible.

Nick's was the lead singer of the world famous pop group Dirty Candi. And Julie remembers drunkenly applauding the choice ("She's pretty! Wowww you like them Bubblegum Pop girls?")

They had a laugh that night and Julie doesn't really consider that hall pass conversation all that much since then-

-Until fast forward to last week when Nick disclosed to her that he ran into Carrie Wilson at an event. And then promptly disclosed to her that he invoked his 'Hall Pass' rights.

His rights?! She had exploded at him, and he claims that its no big deal. That he thought she would understand that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, a crazy set of circumstances, and that- 'Holy shit Jules, she was actually into me. Like what?'

Understandably, Julie stormed out and has been staying with Flynn for the time being. And it must have been the haze of crying and watching a lot of true crime series to cheer herself up that she and Flynn concocted this... plan.

One fueled by spite and pettiness.

Get back at Nick, make him jealous, make him feel how she did- by invoking her own 'Hall Pass' rights- 

-which so happens to be Sunset Curve frontman, Luke Patterson... 

"There he is" Flynn whispers from their corner of the club and Julie gulps.

"I don't think I can do this," Julie hisses at Flynn, when they spot him at the bar, nursing a drink with his bandmates like he usually would (they did their research). 

See, Julie’s been a fan of Luke’s for a long time. Ever since she heard ‘Now or Never’ in freshman year of high school, she’s been hooked onto their music- especially Luke and his voice and playing. 

She had their posters on her bedroom wall and had been that girl who would (when no one’s looking) press her fingers to her lips then press them against Luke’s image before going to bed. 

It was that bad. 

And Julie had probably fantasized on more than one occasion of meeting him and all the other scenarios you would picture in a typical Celeb x Reader scenario. 

And she’d like to think she grew out of it, now she’s in her mid-twenties and just casually listens to Sunset Curve, following up on their careers every now and then. 

But you can never really shake your first major celebrity crush. Hence he had been on her so called ‘Hall Pass’ list. 

(”You into rockstars, Jules?” Nick had teased her that night.)

Seeing him there, in the same place as her, is so surreal, but Flynn’s continued pinches to her arm remind her just how real this is. 

“This is ridiculous,” Julie crosses her arms, ready to bow out because what is she thinking? Why would Luke Patterson pick her up, of all people, at the bar? It’s like a supermodel runway in here, filled with girls more accomplished and famous. Her confidence is shaken a bit and she rethinks everything. 

"Nick didn't seem to have a problem when he did it," Flynn points out, “And girl, you look great. He would be blind to not want you.” 

The mention of Nick still boils her blood, which only reaffirms her plans for revenge. She’s still nervous but they both stand up from their booth and walk over to the bar. 

“You’re just saying that because you’re my best friend,” 

“No. You’re musician extraordinaire, Julie Molina! The world may not have heard about you, but they will one day. I bet that’s something you can talk to him about. Music? Lyrics?” 

Julie could use her songwriting credentials to her advantage, “I mean I guess-” 

“Quick, he’s getting up!” 

“Flynn, wait I’m not-” 

With a forceful push, Flynn sends Julie into the path of Luke Patterson, colliding into him and effectively spilling his drink all over her dress. 

“Oh my god,” Luke gapes at her, “I am so sorry-” 

Julie fans herself, shaking slightly from the fact she’s drenched and also that her freakin’ high school celebrity crush is looking at her, actually talking to her. 

But she recovers quickly, and she speaks, “It’s fine. Really. I guess I’m just... clumsy.” She shoots a glare at Flynn, who merely winks and retreats to their booth. 

Luke grimaces and takes her by the hand, leading her somewhere, napkins in his other hand, “Here, let’s get you cleaned up. Again, I’m sorry. Hate to ruin a pretty... dress.”

It’s the way he eyes her that catches Julie off guard. He’s... not talking about the dress, is he? 

Julie reels it back in tries her hand at a joke, “I wouldn’t call this a dress. I feel like fancy leftovers in this thing.” 

Luke stifles a laugh, “Okay, I mean I wasn’t gonna say anything but yeah. I guess it’s a bit tin foil-y.”

“Not your style?”

His gaze drifts over to her one last time, “Well, any way to take a meal back home is fine by me. I mean-” Luke scrunches his nose, wincing, “I didn’t- I didn’t mean it like that. Shit. That was too... much. Are we-” he laughs nervously, “Are we still... talking about food?”

“Unless you just called me a meal. Then no.” 

The look in his eyes say that he’s absolutely mortified, “...yeah. I think I did. I was hoping that was a nightmare.” 

“Nope, it definitely happened,” 

“Feel free to slap me,” 

Julie giggles, somewhat delirious because she hasn’t tried to flirt with him but here Luke is, flirting with her. Or trying. And failing. Like a far cry from the suave rockstar she had pictured him to be. 

“No need. Just, can you-?” she points to the napkins he’s holding hostage. 

“Oh yeah. Here,” They stop in front of the coat check, and he hands her the napkins so she could try herself off with the best she can.

Suddenly, a weight falls onto her shoulders, she looks up and sees Luke draping a jacket over her- his presumably. 

“You looked cold,”

Julie wraps the jacket tight against her, relishing in the warmth, “Wow, thanks.”

Luke smiled and stepped back, “Just so you know, if I made you feel weird in any way, I’d like to throw out my third ‘sorry’ of the night. Nothing has to happen though. So, just say the word and I’ll leave you alone.”

Whew. Um, okay. Julie stands there, faced with this decision. 

The compliments aside (she will revisit those later), Luke’s giving her an out. Any reservations she has about moving forward with this plan, this is her chance to leave. 

She could just treasure these amazing few minutes for the rest of her life. This could be a story to tell friends at a dinner party, about the time a rockstar lent her his jacket. Would be up there with the time Jack Black passed her on the street and said “Nice hat!”. 

But-

Maybe she wants to see where this goes. 

“All this talk about food is making me hungry though...” she says and Luke lights up, “I could go for a bite to eat.” 

Luke snaps his fingers, “I know just the place.”

Half an hour later, Julie and Flynn are in a smelly alleyway with the guys from Sunset Curve, in line for a street dog cart just a couple blocks away. 

“An Oldsmobile?” Julie gawked after hearing Luke and the guys describe the delicacy, “Are you trying to poison me?”

“I swear by it,” Luke insists, taking her hand and moving them up in the line. Flynn sees this and doesn’t comment, but Julie’s starting to get used to Luke doing that, “You have to try!”  

Julie doesn't know when she got over her initial starstruck, but by now its so easy to treat Luke like a regular person.

Well, celebrities are all regular people in the end, but more so now that he and his friends, have their sleeves rolled up, smiles wide, ready to dig into what may be the most disgusting hot dog she has ever seen.

Julie takes a bite out of hers and her eyes widen. Wow. It's not terrible.

"Ayy! We got another one, boys" Reggie laughs, noting her reaction.

"Told ya" Luke needles her sides and she giggles, ticklish. Her knee jerk reaction is to playfully shove him, but in the process accidentally smeared some mustard onto his face.

Luke goes to lick it off with his tongue, making funny faces as he did which amused Julie even more.

"Here," she takes a napkin and wipes at his cheek, "Now we're even."

The whole group gets to talking over by the couches, while Flynn chats up the other boys, Julie and Luke are sequestered in their own corner, and yes, eventually the topic switches to music.

"Wait, so you know Rose and the Petal Pushers?" Luke chokes out, "Like everyone I talk to hasn't heard of them!"

"Yup. Have their record actually" Julie beams proudly, censoring out the part that its her mom's band and hence she has one of the few records ever released.

Luke is floored by that and continues to poke her brain for music and Julie finds that their spiels go on naturally, that she could probably talk with Luke for hours and hours.

Which ends up happening. Flynn had already made her escape, having texted her to come home safely, the boys had gone too, leaving them in the nearly empty lot.

When the food truck closes down for the night, they end up taking a stroll down the streets of L.A, talking and getting to know each other.

Julie learns so much about Luke, things she's never heard about from the press- like his songwriting practice, that he cries at Finding Nemo, and that he can do a cartwheel only when drunk.

And in return Julie shares with him her crazy college stories, how she misses her mom sometimes, and that she is encyclopedia of commercial jingles (a fact Luke exploits by rapidly quizzing her at random moments)

Somehow they end up near the beach, with Julie pointing out the different stars she could see, but finds that Luke isn't looking at the sky.

"Hey, Julie..." He gets her attention, "I had a really good time tonight."

"Me too"

"So... would it be alright, if I kiss you?"

Julie's mouth parts, speechless. It happened. Holy shit it happened or... is happening. She has Luke exactly where she wants him.

She could only nod and Luke takes it as the sign to lean in, but just as his lips is about to brush against hers, she freaks-

"Wait" she steps back. Luke opens his mouth, "No. No more 'sorry's from you. This one's one me. I'm sorry but... this- this" She sighs, "I have to be honest with you."

Then she tells Luke everything- Nick, The Hall Pass, her plans for tonight- basically admitting to using him.

When she's done, she expects for Luke to get angry, to leave in a huff and never want to see her again.

That's not what happens.

"This Nick guy sounds like a piece of work" he says.

Julie nods slowly, "Yeah... I guess he was. So maybe that's why I did it. But I don't think I could have gone through with it. Like I don't think we're together, me and Nick but-"

"You wouldn't want to do what he did. Because you don't want to hurt people," Luke surmises, understanding, "And by doing that, that means you're a better person than he is."

"I guess"

"No Julie, you're a good person" Luke insists, "Man, I think that makes me like you even more."

Julie laughs, "God, if my high school self could see me now..."

"You were a big fan?"

"I'm not having this conversation right now with you,"

"Okay cuz now you got me curious-"

Julie swats his shoulder but it doesn't deter the guy from snickering.

On a more serious note though-

"I think..." Julie hums, "I think this means that I got some stuff to work through. Before I could start considering... this."

"I understand"

"But thank you... Luke. For tonight"

"It's been real, Julie,"Luke smiles and pulls her in for a half hug, "And you should keep the jacket. Looks better on you anyway."

Julie goes back to Flynn's that night and her bestie's still awake, wanting all the deets. But there's not much to tell. Nothing happened.

She shrugs off the jacket and resigns to the couch, not caring that her makeup is still on. She's about ready to pass out.

Her phone dings.

She pulls it out and sees two notifications.

Julie rolls her eyes and collapses onto the couch, sleeping with a smile on her face.

She doesn't know it now, but the oncoming years would be filled with more messages back and forth, meetups with their friends for more shady street food, building a solid foundation of friendship and eventually, when Luke asks again if he could kiss her, Julie would eagerly prop herself on her toes to close the gap.

Yeah, Julie's high school self would definitely be screaming...

Hey if u want some excellent fuel from c!Dream angst, you should watch the video on Isolation by Vsauce. Its VERY interesting and gives so much info on boredom & staying in a small room with no stimulus. Tldw even if Dream weren’t getting regularly beat up, the prison itself is design in such a way it could be considered a form of torture //sun-is-a-square

SUN !!! hooooly shit that was one of the most useful and interesting documentaries i've watched in a long time - that was so informative and so fascinating. i'll probably reference this a few times when writing / analysing c!dream now, but here are some of my thoughts!!

warnings: solitary cofinement, mentions of self harm and suicide, mentions of dissociation, derealisation, dereality, mental deterioration and mental instability, general prison arc themes

"when left alone with a very negative stimulus, people will go ahead and re-experience it just because it's something to do."

in the documentary video, a man was put in a room with a button that administered a small electric shock that hurt and was unpleasant. previously, he used it, and said he never wanted to use it again. within two minutes (1:57) of being in that room, left alone with no other stimuli, he pressed the button, and did it again within ten minutes, because he was bored.

he wasn't obliged to press the button - he could have waited out the time without using it at all, but due to the lack of other activities in the room, he chose to press it: to give himself a painful experience despite knowing it was going to hurt.

we can see c!dream very quickly deteriorate in the same way - iirc, within the first day and night of him being put in there, he died a couple of times, which could have been him trying to escape, or could have been him so desperate already for stimulation and bored of waiting for c!tommy to visit that he decided to jump into lava. he does this several times in prison, and also randomly sets himself on fire - which people have been debating for months, trying to understand if the self harm is genuine distress or manipulation. after watching the video on isolation and boredom, i think it's desire for stimuli and change: the brain NEEDS stimulating, and when given the opportunity to be stimulated, even with a negative stimuli, the person in question is going to take that stimulus even at the risk of being hurt.

i want to move onto sensory deprivation !! in the video, it was described as "looking in a mirror for hours" - short term sensory deprivation, that was. an interview with a prisoner who suffered from involuntary solitary confinement said this:

"you're left [in that room] with your own thoughts. that's it/ [...] it's like your in limbo."

in a place like pandora's vault, there is no opportunity for good or positive thoughts. especially because it's c!dream we're talking about in this scenario: he's already got a head full of very bad, very destructive thoughts, and clearly he's already very unstable before he is imprisoned. during imprisonment, we see him spiral with every visit - and, as the man being interviewed mentioned, "mentally, it scars [long term prisoners] for life."

...which of course brings me on to the side effects and analysis of long term solitary confinement. with a doctor and psychologist watching over him, vsauce entered a white room, completely white, with a bright white light above him and his meals in bottles. he stayed there for three days with no human contact, no activities, and no way of being able to judge the time.

several incredibly interesting things happened. without any way of telling the time, and the light above him being the same brightness level 24/7, his internal clock was absolutely destroyed: he went to bed at 10:30pm, woke up just after 4:30am, and assumed it was near enough 9am. by the second day, he thought it was the end of the third. time completely goes out the window in solitary confinement, and his sleep schedule got incredibly interrupted too.

he began to deteriorate: he said his thoughts were incoherent, and it was hard to remember even the thoughts he'd just had seconds before. though he began talking animatedly out loud to himself and doing pushups, walking round the room to entertain himself, etc, by the middle of the second day he was just sitting and lying down and staring at walls. he grew agitated and upset and after claimed every little noise he heard was startling.

his dreams began revolving around the room: at one point, he got up, looked incredibly confused, tried to leave the room, got even more confused, and went back to sleep. the psychologist said it looked like it was becoming a struggle for him to tell apart dreams from reality, since they were both set in the exact same room in the exact same conditions.

this was all just within three days. c!dream has been in there for seven months and eight days, as of writing this post. it's safe to say we see a lot of this within c!dream already: and the psychologist hypothesised further changes / deteriorations with a longer timeframe, the doctor included. with the disruption to a person's circadian cycle comes the disruption of hormone cycles, cognitive abilities, metabolic processes, and more - vsauce's heartrate altered a lot in the process too. when voicing his fears, the psychologist admitted to vsauce that people undergoing long-term isolation have also experienced breakdowns, mass hallucinations, total dissociations from reality, psychotic breakdowns, all of which were possible.

so though the timeframe of their isolations and the conditions were very different, the effects are a very good example of what c!dream is currently going through. we can see this on different streams that he's in too: his boredom, his excitement and immediate fondness over the cat and c!tommy and other visitors (stimulation), his desperation to keep the clock (to keep in balance with the time in the outside world), his self destructive behaviour (stimulaton, even if it's negative), and even killing c!tommy aligns with this.

killing c!tommy always struck me as somewhat irrational (though it also helped prove the revive book was real and he wasn't lying). it just seemed very spur-of-the-moment, very emotional, very sudden, especially considering only two months prior, c!dream claimed he would never kill c!tommy because he was "too fun". but the prison rewrites who you are as a person: it's what solitary confinement does. we even see it happen to c!tommy while he's in there - he's louder and more rambly than usual, not to mention more aggressive to c!dream (though he is stuck in a cage with his abuser, so that makes sense). c!tommy is affected by this almost solitary confinement, and claims it was worse than dying, which was also awful - now it's easy to understand why.

it's just all so interesting to me! i've been hyperfixated on this for like two hours now but MAN real life effects are so interesting and it's amazing how cc!dream is incorporating it into his character. i definitely have new ideas on writing / analysing c!dream and had a lot of fun watching this documentary, so thank you for the recommendation sun :DDD the prison has always been an awful place, even before c!quackity - and watching this video definitely drilled that home. i definitely recommend it!!
