D.E.B.S. at 20: a Queer Cult Classic
Bessie Yuill Photo: Sundance/WireImage
There is a secret film hidden within the shadowy sapphic corners of Letterboxd. Some call it escapist trash, some call it an underrated cult classic, fools call it a male fantasy. It calls itself D.E.B.S. As other early-2000s chick flicks like Charlie’s Angels and St. Trinian’s have been reevaluated and embraced for their candy-floss aesthetics and campy wit over the years, the lesbian community was quietly reclaiming its own equivalent with 2004’s D.E.B.S.
The precursor to contemporary high-concept lesbian films like Bottoms, the spy flick is filled with something that queer female moviegoers still often yearn for: fun. That includes Jordana Brewster and her era-defying eyebrows as the impeccably named supervillain Lucy Diamond, John Woo–style fight scenes that parody the action genre in the same way as Charlie’s Angels, and a cheerfully cheap aesthetic where spies run around in plaid schoolgirl skirts.
D.E.B.S. was written, directed, and edited by filmmaker Angela Robinson. While “unapologetically queer” might be an overused phrase, it does apply neatly to Robinson. The Chicago-born director’s first project was a short film called Chickula: Teenage Vampire, calling on the long history of vampiric queer women that began with 1872’s Carmilla.
Her love of playing with genre led her to later put a lesbian spin on the movie musical by writing the underappreciated Girltrash: All Night Long and exploring polyamory in a period biopic about the creators of Wonder Woman, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. On the small screen, she also burnished her lesbian credentials by working on several episodes of The L Word.
When D.E.B.S. started life as a short film, Robinson described it as “a story about a trio of superspies who are all chicks. I love all the comic-book characters: Charlie’s Angels, Batman, Josie & the Pussycats … But I always wanted them to be gay and they never were, so I wrote my own.” Success at Sundance led to Sony snatching the short up and deciding that D.E.B.S. should be a full-length feature.
Two decades later, the joy of this movie lies in the details. The tone is immediately set by a gravelly voice-over telling us that there is a secret test hidden within the SAT to recruit young female superspies (and establishing that, like Bottoms, this is a film aware of genre archetypes and willing to push believability). Our main character Amy (Sara Foster) is an academic overachiever — like many lesbians overcompensating for their perceived failure to live up to social norms. Her perfect score on the secret SAT test makes it even more scandalous when she falls for the aforementioned supervillain Lucy Diamond.
Queer friend groups may delight over the nostalgic frosty eye shadow and lip gloss worn by the D.E.B.S. (which stands for “discipline, energy, beauty, strength,” naturally) at all times. Flip phones, CGI holographic screens, and Goldfrapp’s appearance on the soundtrack will also remind you that you’re watching a film made in the early 2000s. And many will squeal when they spot Holland Taylor, over a decade before she came out, as the academy’s head.
Admittedly, the special effects are goofy enough to cross over into comedy, especially when our girls are abseiling into a restaurant or climbing walls with plungers, and the lighting could be charitably described as resembling teen soap operas of that era. But the chemistry between Amy and Lucy is crackling enough that YouTube compilations of their scenes have racked up hundreds of thousands of views online. Their fun enemies-to-lovers plotline begins with the pair pointing guns at each other and quickly progresses to a whirlwind romance (the other D.E.B.S. think Amy’s been kidnapped and launch a national manhunt, just as many friend groups have had to organize rescue missions for lesbians on weeklong first dates).
You could argue that espionage serves as a metaphor for the closet and that Amy is such an effective spy because she’s used to lying to herself about her sexuality. But that almost seems like too much weight to put on this meringue confection of a genre spoof: Its campiness liberates the characters to inhabit a fun, exaggerated universe with no serious homophobia or consequences. Guns are used, but the so-called superspies have such consistently terrible aim that there are no real casualties. And Lucy Diamond’s supposedly nefarious crimes are all reversible — the murders pinned on her are revealed to be misunderstandings, and she returns all of her stolen goods in order to win Amy back.
When this live-action Totally Spies with a lesbian twist debuted, it only made $97,000 and was dismissed by critics. But there were enough moviegoing gays impressed by its snappy dialogue, fun romance, and stunning supporting cast (including Meagan Good, Jimmi Simpson, and Devon Aoki with a French accent) for its reputation to grow online over time. In forums and YouTube comment sections, young girls were asking, “Are there any lesbian films where they just fall in love and have fun and don’t die at the end?” Their answer was D.E.B.S.

If there is one thing about his job that Mingyu despises, it’s going on undercover missions.
Not that he’s not good at it. Oh, no—Mingyu is one of the best, and he knows that, but sometimes he wishes he could have a simple, in-your-face fight with their enemies, rather than having to slink around and don fake smiles and fake personalities and stab people in the back.
“So, who’s the target this time?” Mingyu mutters to himself, smoothing down the lapels of his tuxedo as he eyes the rest of the aristocrats mingling around in the dimly lit room.
His earpiece crackles. “You’ll know them when you see them,” Wonwoo’s smooth voice replies.
Mingyu rolls his eyes, looking around in disgust as the richest people of their nation get high in this illegal drug party he’s infiltrated. “I need more information than that. Come on, I know Seungcheol trusts me, but I can’t find our target with my gut instincts alone.”
“Mingyu.”
“It’s not like I’m a bloody psychic or anything. Am I meant to go round and asking everyone for their names? Because there are a lot of people here. I don’t think I can do it. It might take forever.”
“Mingyu, come on, Cheol already told you. The less you know, the better.”
Mingyu scoffs. “Yeah, and I still don’t get it. How can less information help me on this mission? I don’t get it. Wonwoo, can't you tell me anything? Just one small detail? Pretty please?”
“Alright, just shut up,” Wonwoo says, and Mingyu can hear his eyeroll. He grins triumphantly. “I’ll tell you their name. They’ll introduce themselves as Y/N.”
“Wha— you’re going to give me a name? That’s it?”
“That’s all I’m allowed to give you. Good luck.”
“Y/N?” Mingyu says, lost. But the line has gone dead, and he huffs in annoyance, tapping his earpiece. “Wonwoo, come on, who’s Y/N?”
“That would be me,” a soft voice says from behind him, and it’s a wonder he hears you above the clamour of the club, but there’s something commanding and attention-capturing about your voice that makes him turn.
You’re standing right next to his elbow, having somehow managed to slink up to him undetected where he sits by the bar.
“Y/N,” Mingyu says, and gives you a once-over. Your eyes are bright, smile mysterious and deceptive, but there’s nothing that gives you away as a potential target. But then you smile wider, a brilliant flashing of teeth, almost predatory, and he grins.
“Were you looking for me?” you ask, voice still deceptively soft, like you’re playing a game that only you know the rules of, and he decides that he’d indeed like to play your game for a while. A long while, in fact. Enough to figure you out, and then some.
He slides off the bar stool, reaching for your hand and brushing his lips against your knuckles. “Mingyu,” he introduces, looking up at you from where he’s still bent over your hand, lips quirking up into a smirk. “And I’d love to have a dance with you.”
And so that’s what you do.
You manoeuvre him into the centre of the floor with ease, and the music is thumping and the lights flash in a brain-aching way, but the two of you sway gently as if it’s the most romantic moment in the world.
Mingyu’s still trying to size you up, trying to identify the threat, trying to see if he’s meant to get you on their side or make an enemy out of you immediately. However, before he can say anything, anything to gauge who you are and what you want, you look down at where his hands rest on your waist, and then back up at him through your lashes.
“I think we’d make a good pair,” you say, flashing that brilliant smile again. “You and I. We’d work together really well.”
He tilts his head to the side, momentarily losing his focus as you lick your lips slowly. As if you want to eat him.
“Would we?” he says after a moment, and your smile widens. “In what way?”
There are a thousand innuendos there, and neither of you are blind to that. He expects some crude joke about positions and bedrooms, as would be customary of the vulgar aristocrats who frequent this place, but you reply with something rather different.
"Well, we will be like a wolf and a fox," you say, smoothing Mingyu’s suit shoulders and tugging at his tie cheekily.
Hm, Mingyu thinks. Like partners in crime. And he’s not unaware of the way you had said “will”. As if this was something that would happen in the future.
Well. Mingyu certainly wouldn’t be against that.
"Oh? And who will be the wolf and who will be the fox?" Mingyu decides to humour your interesting talkings, allowing you to pull him forward, grinning.
"Let me think," you hum, a smirk on your face as you fondle the folds of the tie before your eyes trail up to flutter at Mingyu. "I think you'll be the wolf."
Mingyu’s hands wrap more tightly around your waist, chuckling at the small noise of appreciation that leaves your lips. You’re still swaying across the floor, but the loud music has faded from your ears. It’s just the two of you and the electricity crackling in a protective shell around you. "And why is that, my dear fox?"
Your smirk grows. "Well, you're the bumbling one. The large, burly figure, perhaps not the smartest, but by God are you smoking hot."
Mingyu chuckles, and he’s not even hiding the fact that his gaze is trained on your lips. “Smoking hot, am I?”
"Hmm, maybe," you tease. "And me, well… I’m sly. Smaller, sneakier, and yet still devastatingly beautiful, am I not?"
You lift up a finger to trace Mingyu’s jawline, and he leans even closer, eyes searing.
"You are a sly one, that's for sure," he murmurs. Your scent is utterly intoxicating. Mingyu closes his eyes as you wrap your arms around his neck. It takes everything in him not to bury his face into your neck, or smash your lips together, or press you even closer against him and never let you go.
But before he has the chance to do anything at all, you’ve disappeared, and Mingyu is left holding no one, only the faintest scent of your heady perfume being left behind.
Mingyu opens his eyes, dizzy and disoriented, looking round the hazy club for where you might have gone. He sighs in frustration, stuffing his hands into his pockets and attempting to reach for his phone before finding—
He huffs, letting out a dry chuckle as he turns out his empty pockets. "A sly fox, alright," he murmurs. "How bold of someone to steal from one of the renowned figures of the spy world," he smiles to himself, dangling your golden necklace from between his fingers, slightly-too-small silver rings adorning his pinkies.
Y/N is an interesting person, that’s for sure.
Mingyu’s earpiece crackles again.
“Mingyu? Did you find Y/N?”
Mingyu stares off into the distance, where your figure has disappeared, a slight smile on his face. “I did.”
“Good. Because they’re going to be your partner on this next mission.”
“W— my what?!”

FAMILY FRIEND (PT. 2)
Tumblr media

author's note: next part will probably be the last part so enjoy besties!
part one can be found here!
Your keys jingled as you unlocked the door, the sound of a piano playing filling your ears. You raised an eyebrow as you quietly shut the door behind you, walking quietly through the living room. You walked through the house to the music room, the one that hadn’t been touched since the passing of your mom a few years ago.
You slowly peeked through the door opening and saw Trey sitting at the piano, his fingers pressed down on the keys as he played an unknown melody. He hummed along before pulling away and writing stuff down on the paper in front of him, returning back to the keys shortly afterwards. You couldn’t help but watch in awe, trying to stay quiet as you watched.
The sound of the door squeaking slightly caused Trey to stop and quickly turn his head around. “I’m sorry.” You apologized, slipping inside the room, “I was trying to not interrupt.”
He grinned at you, shaking his head, “No it’s alright. I was just writing some music.” He told you, rotating himself on the bench to where he could face you better. You wondered why you found him attractive as he wore his clearly worn Broncos shirt with a pair of plaid pajama pants. His hair was a little messy, almost like a kitten after they get bathed by their mom’s.
“What are you writing?” You asked, walking over to the bench. He flipped back around, motioning to the paper and you sat down on the bench next to him, looking over the sheet music. He looked over at you as you scanned over the music, before he put his hands back on the piano, playing as you read along.
He mumbled some words softly as he played along and you listened, continuing to read over the music. The words he sang caused your chest to sink to your stomach, as you fought back the welling of tears. The lyrics talked about his past and present relationships and how he struggles with his own problems as well. It was a new side of Trey you had never seen before or even heard about.
“Trey..this is beautiful,” You tell him, he pauses with his fingers hovering over the keys as he looks at you. “You think so?”
You nod in response, “I’m sorry things didn’t work out with your wife.” He shrugged as he dropped his hands from the piano and fiddled with his fingers in his lap, “It happens. I just really thought that this one was the one…you know?” He asked, glancing over at you before returning his gaze back to his hands in his lap.
A soft sigh escaped your lips before you placed your hand over his, grasping onto them, “I get that…but you’ll get through it right? You’ve done it before and you can do it again. And who knows maybe your next girlfriend will be right around the corner.” You said, lightly stroking on his hand with your thumb.
He looked down at your hands giving a small grin and chuckling as he turned his gaze back to you, “You think so?” You gave him a nod, looking into his eyes, “I know so.” You gave him a small reassuring grin as he returned one back to you.
The two of you continued to sit in the silence for a moment, taking in one another’s company before Trey turned his attention back to the piano and you pulled your hand away from his and watched him continue to write his music.
Trey had convinced you to invite some friends over while he hung out in the guest room so you wouldn’t be hanging out with him all night. In his words, “You don’t wanna hang out with a depressed old man like me.” So while you hung out with some friends in the garage, Trey was inside doing whatever he decided to be doing.
“So Y/N…how’s things been going with Trey?” One of your friends asked in a sing-song voice. You rolled your eyes in response. It wasn’t the best kept secret from your friend group that you had a crush on Trey even though you found it embarrassing because while their “celebrity” crushes were people like Adam Driver or Taylor Swift, you not only chose one of the creators of South Park, but the one you knew personally.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You said, taking a sip from your drink. They all laughed to themselves before turning back to you, “Oh come on like you haven’t thought about what to do while you two are alone for a week?”
You sat there for a moment, debating on telling the truth or lying. Because you had thought about what to do now that you were home alone with Trey. You thought about ditching your friends right now and just going to Trey’s room and telling him everything in hopes he’d strip you down and live out your fantasies right there. The thought went straight to your core as you tried to prevent yourself from being turned on anymore than you already had been since the morning when you saw Trey walking around shirtless.
You shrugged, “I mean obviously I’ve had thoughts. You know me. But to act on them? That’s entirely different. Plus he’s really upset about his divorce. Last thing he needs is a 25 year old professing their attraction to him.”
Scattered agreement happened across the room as your friends all murmured in agreement, sipping from their own drinks as they did so. You let out a soft sigh as you continued to let your mind run, wondering what Trey could be doing now. Was he still writing? Playing on his phone? Maybe he would be touching himself to the thought of you like how you would do with him? Although that last one seemed like a reach.
You and your friends continued to ramble about whatever came to mind, whether it be the latest movie that came out or the fact that these would be the last couple months together, since most of your friends would be graduating soon and moving back to their respective towns or states and while you thought about staying in Colorado, they were not.
You were always thinking about your career possibilities as well, but being a film major and living in a place like Colorado wasn’t easy. You thought about moving to someplace like New York or Los Angeles, maybe convincing Trey while he was here to give you a letter of recommendation so that you could find a good career in the business somewhere. Or getting on your knees and begging Trey to give you a spot in a writer’s chair at his job until you found something else so you weren’t ENTIRELY mooching off of him. Either way you knew it needed to be figured out quickly, especially with Trey going home in a week.
You started to tune out the sound of your friends conversing as your brain continued to think of Trey, over and over again. “I’m going to the bathroom,” You spoke as you stood up from your spot on the couch and walked through the door to go back into the house.
The house was dark and quiet, the only lights illuminating were a couple lamps in the living room and some others that led from the garage to the closest bathrooms so if needed, nobody would get lost.
You found your feet trudging you up the stairs to the outside of Trey’s door as you stood there, leaned up against the door frame. You noticed the door hadn’t been shut all the way, but it was shut enough to where there wasn’t a crack in between the door and the frame.
As you raised your hand to knock, you found your hand pausing once you heard the sound of heavy pants and groans. The sounds caused you to almost freeze entirely but you slowly leaned in, resting your ear against the door. You listened to the sounds of almost whimpers come from the other side, along with almost pornographic sounding squelches.
You lightly pressed against the door, trying to see if you could see what you thought was happening and your eyes widened at the sight behind the door.
Trey laid on the bed, his clothes lazily thrown on the floor next to him as he had a bottle of what looked to be your lotion next to the bed. When your eyes scanned over him you saw his head thrown back into the pillow, his right arm laying over his eyes as he bit his bottom lip. Your eyes trailed further down, looking at the sweat that ran down his torso, and the way his skin was starting to turn a dark pink shade. You were almost too scared to continue looking but couldn’t find the strength to pull away as your eyes traveled more down, the sound of his gasps still ringing in your ear.
When your eyes arrived on his left hand, you almost let out a gasp but quickly held back. His left hand was pumping along his length, moving up and down in an alternating pace between fast and slow as he continued pumping. His hips buckling against his hand as he did so, his lips parting from his bite so he’d let out a gasp. You watched him wipe beads of precum from the tip with his thumb as he would use it for more lubricant before going back to stroking himself.
“Hm fuck Y/N.” His name poured out of his mouth as your hand flew over your own. “M’gonna cum into that pretty little mouth of yours.” He said as your eyes widened to where if you let them widen anymore, they surely would’ve popped out of their socket. You tried to pry yourself away from watching but knowing he was touching himself to you, the way you exactly hoped he would, was making your center throb and heat up.
You watched as his tip twitched in his hands, and the liquid spilled out, spilling over the top and running down his cock and fingers. He bucked his hips as he rode out the high he reached, the one he imagined you brought him to. He let out a few pants, before he started shifting around.
You quickly removed yourself from the door frame before quickly walking back downstairs towards the garage where your friends sat.
The spot you were originally sitting in was taken so you found yourself sitting in a new spot, “That was a long piss.” One of your friends stated, breaking you from your thought process. You quickly shifted your attention back to them before clearing your throat, “Oh uh yeah sorry my dad called.” You lied before going back to your brain. Your brain in which the image of Trey just replayed over and over and over again.

yea no I lied, I couldn't leave before doing this cause obviously I'm obsessed. obviously.
Tumblr media
here's what I could research about the staff highlighted to be working on Black Butler season 4 in the time and patience that I had right now.
Kenjiro Okada: Director
Tumblr media
I did some casual gathering on the good ol Wik. I don't recognize a lot or any of the previous works that he has been a part of, but it is a plenty some, so feel free to take a look for yourself. for a better idea, I took a glance at him through IMBD as well. I gotta be honest, not to cause any concern but just to be blunt, it's not the best look. when briefly checking out the works that he's done, a good some of them only make it up to 6 stars. only a few actually make it up to 8. but of course this could be due to a couple different factors, such as the source materials being not well known, or just not that great to begin with. after all he works mainly with adaptation. this could be his big break idk maybe :>
further on that, here's something I borrowed from Wiki.
Tumblr media
honestly, this could be a potential concern as well. we all know that an unfortunate part of the fandom, especially over in japan, is into things the rest of us would rather not see in anime. I don't know why else yana would continue to add fan-service time and time again(I'd rather not think of her personal preferences). so if this person is really interested in pandering to the fanbase, it may lead to some scenes being uncomfortable... as usual. but, I shouldn't focus on the negative, all in all this looks like it will be a good thing! all we want from an anime adaptation is for it to be faithful to the manga, and especially after season 1 and 2, I think this assurance is much needed. besides, this could be an indication that he will be working closely with Yana, and projects that do so have succeeded *points to campania*. I'm optimistic, and I sure hope that we're in good hands.
Hiroyuki Yoshino: Head Writer
so unless I'm looking at a different Hiroyuki Yoshino it looks like this guy is a voice actor and singer first... interesting. as far as I can see it, he hasn't voice acted anyone in Black Butler.
Tumblr media
oh no yea completely different guy, my bad! very different. the Real Hiroyuki Yoshino(screenwriter) was the screenwriter for Book of the Atlantic! sorry. we're all good here, perfect in fact.
unless he decides to substitute someone else for the double charles :] I still remember that. I don't remember if they're in this arc and personally I wanna keep it that way.
more info.
Yumi Shimizu: Character design
Tumblr media
I'm not really jumping out of my seat to research this one, no offense to the designer, but I don't think we'll be seeing much character design other than Yana's. as for the artistic style of the anime, we already saw the teaser, and I think we're happy(I am really trilled that they released the announcement at the same time as the teaser, the announcement alone would not have had the same huge impact. plus it reduces the fear of cancelation ;] not putting that out there).
more info.
Ryo Kawasaki: Music
Tumblr media
this is someone I really wanted to look into cause the music will matter a lot to me.
I found it, here's the soundtrack for the upcoming season 4.
with a background of jazz and band(popularizes to fusion genre apparently), this guy doesn't appear to fit with previous Black Butler soundtrack history. but I think that this is an indication that the mood and music of this season may be different of the rest due to it now being a sports show lol. and I think that's good! if done right I think the tone change will be hilarious, or, if everyone hates it, it's easily distinguishable from the rest.
I think this will be fun. here's more. also he looks awesome. impressive guy. man I'm praying for a killer new opening GOD.
I still wonder who the composer for the more classical score that I saw in the teaser is, if not him. it was nice :>
and finally:
CloverWorks
Tumblr media
they're doing Spy X Family, did The Promised Neverland, Shadow House, many more that even I know of, we're good!
their page
a lot of y'all are very savvy at research, so if anyone wants to add on or contradict, go ahead! have a very, lovely day, everyone.

The Ninja ft. Their musical preferences/hcs
Here are my hcs on what type of music each ninja prefers, plus a few extra bits!!
Tumblr media
Enjoy hehe
Kai
You'll never find someone who loves rap more than him
His favourite song is Candy Shop and he uses its audio to all the thirst traps he makes 😭
(Yes I hc that he makes thirst traps)
He had a phase where he listened to Pass Out by Tinie Tempah on repeat
He got so embarrassed because he got caught singing along to the Boy's a Liar pt 2
Jay didn't let him live it down for like a week
Other than rap he likes the songs I Love You Hoe, Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Cole introduced those songs to him
He definitely uses the rose gold Beats headphones
Skylor borrows them all the time
Jay
Kpop. Just Kpop.
He legit forced Nya to go out to get the BTS meal with him
Lit by Oneus used to be his favourite song, now it's The Feels by Twice
He HATES Stray Kids
He stans BTS, Twice, Dreamcatcher and NCT
If not Kpop, then The Weekend
Stargirl Interlude>>
Him and Cole woke everybody up singing this song at the top of their lungs at like 2AM
He sings into Nya's hairbrush
When he's feeling extra romantic and confident he'll sing "I just wanna see you shine, because I know you are a stargirl" to Nya
He sounds terrible but she loves it
He owns a bunch of lightsticks
A proud photocards collector
Bash any if his favourite artists on twitter/chirp and he won't hold back. Trust me.
When The Feels was first released he cried like a baby because that day they had a mission and he couldn't find his airpods
The poor boy was so upset he couldn't listen to it but Cole offered his headphones to him
He broke them and Cole nearly smashed his face in but dw Zane fixed it because he's wonderful
Zane
Zane loves classical music, he taught himself to play the violin and he plays it for Pixal in their free time
Classical is his favourite genre, but he's an all-rounder
He doesn't listen to music much so he just has one playlist with a bunch of completely different songs
Loves a bit of Florence + The Machine
Pixal introduced her songs to him
He has so many favourites in the classical genre but outside of it his favourite song is probably Spectrum by Florence + The Machine
He and Pixal dance to the song 2002
It's her favourite song and whenever they go on dates Zane makes sure to play it when they're driving back home afterwards
Cole
He's probably going deaf bc his headphones are on like 24/7 (I also forgot to mention he's a DJ in my Cole hcs)
His headphones are personalised
Evolved from a nightcore kid to a slowed + reverb teen/young adult
The others sometimes spy on him while he's singing to the music when he's alone, because he'll never sing in front of anyone and his voice is angelic
His favourite songs are #brooklynbloodpop and Am I Dreaming (from atsv), but dw he's got WAY more favourites
Fluxxwave, CRYSTALS, Luxxid Diamondz, Kurxxed Emeraldz, yeah those type of songs but slowed + reverb
He loves some soft rock aswell
Slowed songs bring out his romantic side, you'll definitely find him sitting by a window while he's blasting the slowed version of What Do You Mean into his ears
Or you'll come across him laying on his bed with his eyes closed, you can hear the slowed Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift from his headpones even though you're literally at the door
Thats how loud it is
AC/DC>>>> HE LOVES THIS BAND SM HE COULD TALK ABT IT FOR HOURS
He owns a bunch of their merch as well
Nya
SZA FOR LIFEEEE
All The Stars and Good Days>>>>
You can hear SZA songs coming from her room all the time and everyone gets sick of it
Obsessed with Rihanna songs as well
OH NA NA WHATS MY NAMEEE
ahem anyways
She loves it when Jay sings to her even though he sounds like a dying cat
MARINA. SHE LOVES MARINA.
The family jewels, How to be a heartbreaker, Hermit the frog, she could go on and on
Also PinkPantheress>>
It's rare, but she sings along to her songs sometimes and her voice is actually beautiful
Lloyd
ONE OF THE BIGGEST SWIFTIES IN ALL OF NINJAGO
Like 75% of his main playlist is just Taylor Swift
Molly (forgotten remix) is his favourite song
He loves going out on drives late at night while blasting this song out of the speakers
He's almost as bad as Cole, he plugs in his ears with his earphones literally all the time but doesn't play music that loud
Style by Taylor Swift>>>>
Argues with Cole about whether it should be"He looks so pretty like the devil" or "He looks up grinning like a devil" from Cruel Summer
He thinks it's the first one
He also loves Middle by DJ Snake
He used to listen to Galantis a lot but Kai bullied him for it
(Little does he know Kai used to sing Runaway (U and I) in the shower almost everyday)
That is all! So sorry that these are all so random 😭
Their music tastes are really messy and chaotic just like them hehe
I hope yall enjoyed this though 🤭

Note: The show notes and the story synopsis are not final, this is just currently what I have in mind. Just not that I thought that Rogers: The Musical in Hawkeye was cringe and I want this to be an Avengers musical with a much higher quality.
Assassins In Love (An Avengers Musical)
Production Notes:
The story and the production design will incorporate elements from the comics, in particular the 616 timeline, but there will be references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. References to the Avengers Assemble and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoons are very welcome. The goal of the production is to be fan service in good taste, but in such a way that non-fans can also enjoy it.  Action scenes/language/sensuality will be kept at the PG-13 level.
The songs will be in the style of classic Broadway and Disney musical numbers, with touches of hip-hop and big band jazz. The superheroes and villains in their fight scenes will wear bright, colorful costumes based on their comic book and film counterparts.
The majority of the story takes place in 2010s New York City. Scenes with flashbacks and travel to other places can be depicted with lighting and stage effects.
Genres: Action, Romance, Romantic Comedy, Suspense, Spy thriller
Characters:
Starring Characters: Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Supporting female characters: Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Maria Hill, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch
Pepper Potts appears at the party in Act I and in the Finale
Supporting Male characters: Steve Rogers/Captain America and Sam Wilson/Falcon; Tony Stark/Iron Man, Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, and of course Clint Barton/Hawkeye

Avengers Chorus: Vision, Thor, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Scott Lang/Ant-man and Hope Van Dyne/Wasp; Doctor Strange; Peter Parker/Spider-man, Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver; Rhodey/War Machine
Villain Chorus (for opening Avengers battle): Including but not limited to Loki, Baron Mordo, Mysterio, Doc Ock, Whiplash, and Zemo
Extras: NYC Civilians, SHIELD/Hydra agents
Clint Barton’s family from the MCU will be mentioned throughout the play and appear in the finale
Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter will have a romance that parallels and foils Bucky and Natasha’s relationship; they will be a couple by the end of the show.
Story Synopsis
ACT I:
Prologue—(The prologue will be depicted in a montage of scenes and dances with minimal dialogue).
Steve Rogers/Captain America and Bucky Barnes were best friends and fought side-by-side in World War II. At the end of the war, Captain America goes missing and Bucky is captured by Hydra. Red Skull turns Bucky into the Winter Soldier and uses him as an assassin to enforce Hydra’s agenda.
Meanwhile in Russia, the Red Room headed by Madame B trains young girls to be assassins but incorporates ballet into their program. Young Natasha Romanoff is one of the best pupils in the Red Room. Red Skull and Madame B arrange to have the Winter Soldier train with teenaged Natasha.
In modern times, Captain America returns. He fights the Winter Soldier only to discover that his opponent is his long-lost friend Bucky. Bucky goes into hiding.
Present Day
The Avengers save New York City from a team of supervillains. After the battle, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff have a personal chat. Steve is adjusting to the modern world. However, ever since his encounter with the Winter Soldier he suspects that Hydra could be building in secret. He is also looking for Bucky but so far the search is fruitless. Natasha Romanoff is content with her existence as an Avenger, but she wonders if she can ever have a normal life and do something besides be an assassin. Sam Wilson arrives to tell Steve that Bucky has turned up.
At the headquarters of SHIELD, Director Nick Fury suspects that Hydra is rising again and warns Phil Coulson and Maria Hill to be on the lookout. Hydra is, in fact, operating under Fury’s nose, led by the Red Skull disguised as Alexander Pierce. Pierce works in a high-profile position at SHIELD. Madame B pays Pierce a visit, and together they plot to destroy the Avengers and help Hydra take over the world. Throughout the play, Madame B is in the background of various crowded scenes, spying on the characters.
After spending months in hiding, Bucky Barnes is in Brooklyn, his and Steve’s childhood home. Bucky is living in the streets while trying to remember his past and put his Winter Soldier days behind him. Steve Rogers finds Bucky and offers him material help. After some persuasion and argument, Steve gets Bucky to move in with him and Sam. Steve also invites Bucky to a party that night being thrown by Tony Stark.
Tony Stark throws a party at the Avengers Tower in Manhattan. While the other guests enjoy the party, Bucky sees Natasha Romanoff from across the crowded room. He remembers her from the Red Room. Natasha sees Bucky also, and she recognizes him. They meet and they talk briefly.
A few days after the party, she goes to Central Park and she sees Bucky again. They discuss their shared past.
Steve gets Bucky a job at SHIELD as a super-agent. For his first assignment, Bucky is sent out with Natasha Romanoff. It is at this point that Bucky recognizes that he has a growing romantic attraction to her.
ACT II:
Bucky has a hard time hiding his feelings for Natasha from the other Avengers. The Avengers and their coworkers at SHIELD believe that Natasha might like him back, but she is in denial. Nick Fury sends Bucky and Natasha undercover to a party in Manhattan hosted by Kingpin. Natasha and Bucky dance together at the party, and then they fight Kingpin’s thugs and arrest the crime magnate.
After the party, Natasha and Bucky frequently go on assignments together, but they also start seeing each other outside of work. Bucky is unsure about where to take his relationship with Natasha. He goes to Steve for advice, and as they reminisce about old times, they rekindle their former friendship. Later, Bucky summons up his personal courage and he tells Natasha that he loves her. They start ‘officially’ dating as a couple, but Madame B is spying on them. Maria Hill, however, is in turn spying on Madame B. Hill tips off Fury that Hydra is going to make their move.
Natasha rented an apartment in Manhattan (furnished by SHIELD) for an ongoing assignment and she is staying there while she and Bucky are dating. Madame B breaks into Natasha’s apartment while she is getting ready for a date with Bucky. Natasha is overpowered and tied to a chair. Then Madame B disguises herself as Natasha and she goes out and captures Bucky.
The Avengers receive Nick Fury’s call for help and they ‘Assemble’ to take out Hydra. Sharon Carter makes a phone call to Natasha and learns that Natasha has been captured and that Bucky is being lured into a trap. While the Avengers go to save Bucky, Natasha attacks her guards and frees herself to go join the Avengers.
When the Avengers come to rescue Bucky, Alexander Pierce reveals himself to them as Red Skull. There is a battle between the Avengers and the Hydra sleeper agents. Natasha arrives, and during the combat she and Bucky steal several moments to ask each other if they are all right. Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes take turns fighting the Red Skull. Red Skull attempts to set off a bomb, but Natasha disables it. Bucky kills Red Skull. Madame B and the other Hydra agents are arrested. Bucky asks Natasha to marry him and she says yes.
Finale: The Avengers throw a big wedding for Bucky and Natasha.

Now that i think about it, i wonder if the thing that truly connects all of the Puzzlevision shows isn't about what genre they're tackling or their musical numbers.
think about it: "Mario Mysteries" a spoof of blue's clues, it airs on nick jr and is ultimately owned by paramount pictures, "Once upon an SMG4" based on princess fairytales which is obviously walt Disney pictures' MO. "Scooby mario where you'd go?" parody of scooby doo, created by Hanna Barbara, owned by warner bros discovery, "Mr. puzzles game show spectacular" does a lot of famous game shows over the years but I think a lot of them airs the channel, game show network.
Paramount. Disney. WBD. Game Show network. all of which have appellations to stream their shows onto your device.
Heck this could also apply to IGBP, WS & WOTFI 2023 for any studios famous for their Horror, Western and Spy movies (Blumbhouse I'm looking at you /hj)
Jesus ur right- and I watched creative control and I remember a line saying that he was bitter for people not giving his shows ideas a chance- maybe JUST maybe these are these were the same streaming studios that kicked him to the curve, like didn't give him a chance

"A line that should've never been crossed"
Genre: romance/royalty AU
Pairing: Vampire!Zyglavis × reader
Warnings: none
A/N: I started writing this at 5:00 am and posting it at 7:00ish am. My sleeping patterns may have crumbled to the ground again, but at least I wrote something I'm proud of.☺️✨🌹
Tumblr media
Music filled the ballroom, violins and pianos and flutes as well combining into a heavy melody that shook your heart and even the walls shivered.
Dresses and suits alike swirled around the dancefloor, the music imposing over their soles that tapped around the polished floor.
Some held glasses with deep red wine, reminding of blood at first glance, the flames of the chandelier flickering and swaying from above and reflecting on the surface of the alcohol, adding shiny details to the ripples of the liquid.
The crimson curtains were pulled to either side and they remained there for the entire night, the moon spying on the careless, dancing humans that wished to allure through any means. Be it with physical attributes, or power, or jewels.
You moved between the crowd, lifting your dress just a little with your gloved hands. You slipped passed the gazes of the many suitors wishing for your hand in a dance among the rest of the couples, trying to show off and stand out.
You may had been wearing a mask, yet everyone knew you. Everyone recognised your hair, your cheeks, your lips. Your eyes told everyone of your identity and wearing a mask simply became an attempt. You couldn't hide.
The music was heavy on your shoulders as you brushed by people on your way outside, making them turn to look at you.
"Your highness," A male voice. "what a pleasure to meet you." Another hypocritical poem they kept repeating, your ears too tired of hearing it and your brain could complete it by itself at this point. "May I be so bold as to ask for your hand for a dance?" He extended a gloved hand out to you. He smiled, but it was the smile of a wolf. He wanted a prey to inherit fortune from. He wanted to be on your good side for gain, even if deep down, he didn't truly care for you and your hand wasn't that desired.
"Unfortunately, I've already requested a dance first." Another man from those you tried to escape from before joined this farce, he, a mere puppet to his tongue.
He wished you'd pick him—he was sure you would. That's how pleased he—and many others—were with themselves and their image, the poison in their veins having apparently infected their eyesight, their sense of critique far too rotten by now.
The violin played its own part in the background, a tone deep and heavy, like a storm slowly building up. And among this dark melody, equally dark smiles covered the ballroom in impudent shame, venomous mockery and audacious arrogance.
"Shall we dance, your highness?" Another sharp tongue asked.
You shook your head. "I apologize, but-"
"Please, your highness, don't do that to me."
"Just one dance."
"I don't think-" You felt your throat closing in at their unmerciful voices.
Gloved fingers ghosted over the skin of your arm, before a hand laced with yours, like a snake and cold. "Excuse me, but I'm afraid she's my dance partner."
You looked up at the owner of the deep voice that had just spoken and your breath hitched, stopping just before exiting your throat.
A man in an inky suit and a mask just as dark stood by your side, tall and breathtaking as his long hair fell around his shoulders. His face was pale and seemed porcelain and you wondered if it'd break upon a gentle touch.
The suitors arguing over your hand a moment ago hushed, the gaze of this mysterious man having earned their silence. They all visibly stiffened before his presence, they all felt as thin as a veil and twice as frail.
The tall gentleman tugged gently at your hand and began to lead you to the dancefloor and he glanced at you as he offered you his blackly gloved palm.
You nodded, allowing him your hand, your heart giving you a steady beat and you breathed in, accidentally inhaling his scent in the process.
His deep and beautiful grey eyes turned to those dull and greedy ones, owned by the those men. "Not knowing when to accept a 'no' is such an unethical behaviour. You should be ashamed." His tone was strict and along with his height, he appeared to be staring down on the men.
His gaze found yours once more. "May I?"
"Yes." You answered with the little air you possessed in your lungs.
With your hand in his, he led you to the dancefloor and you traced a path through the crowd of dancers, the music following you, the dust blown away from its notes.
He positioned his hand on your waist and you put yours on his shoulder, your free hands entangled. His body was cool against yours, but it was a soothing change.
You noticed many eyes on you as your steps fell into the rhythm of the instruments. Looking up at his face you realized you've never seen this man before and smelling his scent, you noticed you've never smelt it before. "Who are you?" You asked, leaning into his body to hear him better.
His pale lips parted and the voice that came out was smooth, like chocolate dripping sweetly into layers and had a feeling of something as old as time. "My name is Zyglavis."
"And where are you from?"
He spun you around with one hand, your gazes locking naturally when you faced him properly again and kept moving about the dancefloor, your heels and his boots in perfect harmony.
His soft hair touched your hand on his shoulder and your attention drifted away from his deep and enticing eyes, but only for two seconds.
"I'm from... Somewhere that not many know."
"Is it that small of a kingdom?" You asked more.
His facial expression did not change much. His eyes didn't part from yours and you could see a repressed desire in them. A passion quietly burning on the inside of this cold body. He didn't answer your question for a while, seemingly to think about his words before uttering them, something not many did. "It's not within your kingdom's social circle, is all."
But still. Shouldn't you've at least heard of that kingdom?
"And what brings you to this ball?" Curiosity peeked from a corner of your brain. If fortune and alliance wasn't within his gains, what was his motives?
His hand tightened around your waist, yet it felt comfortable. "Speaking of this is crossing a line that should've never been crossed..." He pursed his lips, his eyebrows furrowed just a little, but not much. "But I crossed it a long time ago... When I first heard of you." He breathed in and his chest rose and fell against yours. "I admire you."
You listened closely, his deep voice more melodic than any other music piece you've ever heard before.
"Your just actions, your kindness, your sense of duty..." He swallowed and his Adam's apple moved above the collar of his suit. "I wanted... To see you from up close. And allow me to say that you're beautiful."
You've heard those words before, but for some reason, now it was different. Now it had a hint of truth in it.
His footsteps came to a stop and his hands fell away from your body. With a bow of his head and a parting glance... He left.
Something in you screamed as the bows moved faster and more harshly against the strings of the violins and low tones worked as foundations and urged you forward. Something in you was telling you that if you didn't follow that gentleman right now, you'd never see him again.
You passed through the chattering crowd, but this time you didn't stop and didn't offer anyone your precious time.
You reached the stairs to the castle's entrance and you finally saw his strong back, his purplish blue hair swaying behind him freely as he slowly walked away.
"Zyglavis!" You called out to him, yet he didn't stop. You ran faster, almost tripping by your heels. "Zyglavis, please, wait!"
He finally stopped and you did as well, coming to stand in front of him, catching your breath. He stared at you silently, his gaze serious and appearing unfeeling.
You looked him deep in his dark grey eyes and breathed in before speaking. "Am I going to see you again?"
Zyglavis walked wordlessly towards a rose bush, picking a rich and grown deep red rose. He cut off every thorn as if they were nothing but feathers and your eyebrows rose a little to see that he hadn't cut himself at all. He put it in your hair and he ran his chuckled down your jaw, until with cold fingers, he traced your neck. His pupils dilated at your pulse and you swallowed, waiting for his next move or words. "I shouldn't have come here in the first place." His soft touch left your neck, the lack of his cold making you feel as if you were burning up. "It's better that way, trust me..."

Talking Music and Legends
Last Tuesday, March 14 2023, this man turned 90!
Tumblr media
Quincy Jones, one of the most iconic and legendary artists of this century. Musician, arranger, composer, producer. Almost incredible to think about all the people he worked with in his musical career. Legends themselves!
Tumblr media
As a young boy, 14 years old he met Ray Charles, who was then 16 years old. As trumpeter he played in a band that supported Elvis Presley and at 20 year old he played in the Orchestra of Lionel Hampton going on a European tour. During which he developed his skills as arranger as well.
Tumblr media
It's almost impossible to name all the musicians he worked with. Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, DizzyGillespie, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa. All those Jazz icons...
Tumblr media
Jones conducted and arranged Frank Sinatra's iconic live album with the Basie Band Sinatra at the Sands Who doesn't know the albums he produced with Michael Jackson. And the musical adaptation of the Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
Tumblr media
I don't think anybody here never heard a piece of music he was involved in. The many tv themes, Sanford and Son, the Bill Cosby show theme, or Soul Bossa Nova, written in 1962 and used as the theme for the 1997 spy comedy Austin Powers! And so many more...
Tumblr media
Jazz, pop, and even in 1989 with his album Back on the Block, he showed how music genres can be combined and easily be on the same album. Hiphop, Jazz, Pop, Soul, Brazilian music.. The album features legendary musicians and singers from across three generations, including Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Ice-T, Big Daddy Kane, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick, Barry White, Chaka Khan, Take 6, Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Al B. Sure!, James Ingram, El DeBarge, Ray Charles and a 12-year-old Tevin Campbell.
Tumblr media
Quincy Jones with his friend Stevie Wonder
Do yourself a favor and take some time to listen to his music this week. Or do a search on Youtube, many live concerts to choose from. This is one in honor of his 75th birthday. For me it is hard to choose a piece, so many that I adore and love. But I settle for the 'Secret Garden' featuring Al B. Sure!, James Ingram, El DeBarge, and Barry White. From "Back On The Block"
youtube
Oh and take a look at Quincy Jones' IG more than half a century of music history over there! And much more about Quincy Jones.

For the OC ask thingy!
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
(Besides VAMPIRES! I mean 😆)
Fucking hell... ask me the hard ones, Marshie...
OK. Sorcha's original concept was very much Of The Social Media Age. She's an Instagram vampire, an underground party planner, a drug chemist, she's had at least one Vice article written about her. That aspect got played down as she became more #harrowcore over time - actually, that's another thing, the NA necromancy novels that have come out in the last few years have definitely pulled me in a different direction. Sorcha would not be as she is now without Ninth House, Harrow the Ninth, The Library of the Dead... I can drop literary influences for her because she's listened them all as audiobooks and that's part of her goth gril deal.
Alistair's history is inextricable from Glasgow's, in the twentieth century. He's the character I have a full CV worked out for, the spots where he intrudes into and overwrites real historical figures are clear, the incidents which led to his ghouling, jailing and Embrace are all there, he clawed his way out of the Gorbals and their glow up is his as well.
Luciana has an aesthetic influence. Venice is a wonderful city in which to be an old vampire - elegant and decaying, timeless and under siege by modernity, tourist trap yet people still live and work and study there. I will die mad that V:tM closed it off so effectively by saying GIOVANNI TURF and putting the majority of the player base off the place entirely, but it also plays directly into my hands so I'm not going to complain about it too much. But anyway: the rot and romance and fragility and the kind of... authenticity, but also the reality that it is a living city, that the airport is just over there and the cruise ships make the foundations shake, and real death is not pretty and romantic, it's rank and arbitrary and carnal? That's where Luci comes from.
Santino is about the music. Of course he is. He is inextricable from that Eighties-Nineties period of music culture where print journalism was a thing, indie wasn't a genre, and specifically the turning point where goth was deemed Unfashionable and grunge was everywhere. The moment it all crystallised for me was writing the fake Quietus snipped about Driftback: how if they'd come along ten years earlier they'd have been goth rock superstars, ten years later and they'd have been up there with your female-fronted-gothic-metal boom. That sense of being out of time is core to Santino. It comes to all vampires eventually, and he was dealing with it before he was even Embraced.
Penny is a Bond girl gone bad. There's no other way of putting it. She was always rooted in that Cold War spy-versus-spy drama, even though her origins have shifted further back to Bletchley Park and Edwardian England. Her exaggerated Englishness is a bit she can't put down now that the Sabbat has burned out so much of her selfhood, too: she's an alien, she's a legal alien, she's a Camarilla English girl in Sabbat Arizona.
Riley was deliberately engineered around a sort of Tipping the Velvet point: Victorian queerness and gender and sexology vaguely simmering away in the backstory. I'd been reading A Bitter Remedy and Daughters of Night earlier in the year so I think "historical queerness and class barriers" were definitely in the mix.

Steam Next Fest October 2023
Alright let's see as many Demos as possible!
1. Ocelot Sunrise
A nice roguelite bullet hell with various levels (only one playable in the demo) and a sci fi scavengers story and a comics/borderlandesque aesthetic that makes the cutscenes very nice to look at. The background music is a bop too. Alas the controller controls are not completely implemented yet and quite clunky to use in a mixed way, however the power ups and the weapons seems really fun to play with.
7.5/10
Wishlisted
Tumblr media
2. ASTRA: Knights of Veda
On first impact a bread and butter jrpg with all the pros and cons of the genre like huge bazongas! Regardless of which category you consider them in. The artstyle in game and in battle is expecially nice with this sort of "dress-up paper doll" look that sets it somewhat apart and the cutscene style for the evil faction and the dream realm is quite good. The controls are nice and intuitive enough although it needs a mouse to click on certain things like equipment. The voice acting is good enough? I'd say but the audio levels mixing leaves to be desired in some parts. Now the cons: it required to make an account even to play the demo and it has an obligatory post download 8 gb of additional content, there are "daily reward" and buyable cosmetics but most aggravating of all (for me) there are minutes of cutscenes every 5 minutes or so of gameplay.
5/10
Not for me
Tumblr media
3. Estate Agent Simulator
The first bugged demo. The second prompt for the italian tutorial popped up with this half baked and definitely not italian way and had to restart the game in english
Tumblr media
The gameplay itself is fine? For a game like this? Certainly not particularly nice nor particularly bad but the camera bobbing is atrocious, it gave me nausea after I cleaned the first house, the game was also completely silent. I'll add a +1 for the promise of a pettable dog
4/10
Tumblr media
4. Lose CTRL
A surreal satirical you rage you lose puzzle game in which you play as Billy as he tries to climb the corporate ladder to reach a segway. The game mess with your controls and your mind in a mix between Get Over It and Brazil (1985). The split screen capabilities intrigue me although I wonder how it could work with keyboard and mouse controls. The general style is charming and distinctive but also amateurish and rough around the edges. To try, at least once.
7/10

5. Leila
Leila is a chill and relaxing kinda lofi click and drag puzzle game that goes back the memory lane in a coming of age(?) Tale for a middle aged woman, the titular Leila. The puzzles shown have a nice variety between styles and difficulties, and they are certainly meant for someone looking to lubricate those neurons. The art and the background music are pretty nice and the voice acting is quite good too. If you like click and drag puzzles I feel that wishlisting this one (and always trying the demo before) maybe one of your best bets so far.
8/10
Tumblr media
6. Tales from the Dancing Moon
An old-school-ish rpg inspired by runescape in which you run around doing errands for the townsfolk and at the same time try to unravel the mistery of your memory loss, the presence of a smartphone that you can use to take photos in game gives it a mild isekai flavour but not too strong based on what I've seen. The controls appear fluid enough and the sound design while not spectacular does it's job. The character creation menu is surprisingly in-depth for this kind of games.
6.5/10
Runescape wannabe
Tumblr media
7. There's Always a Madman: Fight or Flight
A text based spy adventure in which you play as this super special agent and have to choose between different options both in action and dialogue. While the story itself seems nice the absence of any voice action or any background image besides some solid background color makes the experience hoverwelmingly boring as you are left to click repeatedly thru text.
3/10
I yawned
Tumblr media
8. Rocket!
A mix between a shoot them up and a roguelite bullet hell heavily inspired by galaga and the classics. While the concept is nice and seems intriguing enough and I don't doubt it may end up garnering quite the cult following like many other niche games the controls are exceedingly hard and finicky, the spaceship appear to drift incontrollably with no apparent rhyme or reason.
4/10
Tumblr media
9. Aureole: Wings of Hope
An incredibly fun and novelty platformer/dasher game where you follow the tale of two angels while you speed and dash and jump at full force thru obstacles in the shape of a bouncy halo. The mechanics are surprisingly simple and incredibly flexible at the same time, creating a gameplay that can be adjusted to your own needs, I appreciated particularly the ability to "freeze" while you charge a jump or a dash. Despite not being a platformer lover I absolutely adored this little demo to bits, so far the only that has left me truly wanting more.

Parker Posey in Fay Grim (Hal Hartley, 2006)
Cast: Parker Posey, James Urbaniak, Liam Aiken, Jeff Goldblum, Chuck Montgomery, Leo Fitzpatrick, Saffron Burrows, Jasmine Tabatabai, Elina Löwensohn, Thomas Jay Ryan, Anatole Taubman. Screenplay: Hal Hartley. Cinematography: Sarah Cawley. Production design: Richard Sylvarnes. Film editing: Hal Hartley. Music: Hal Hartley.
Fay Grim (Parker Posey) is having a bad day: Her husband is missing, her brother is in prison, and her son is about to be kicked out of school. Soon this will look like one of the better days. Fay Grim is another of Hal Hartley's ventures into subverting a genre, particularly the espionage thriller. But it's also filtered through another genre, one you might call "the Sandra Bullock movie." At least I call it that because it brought to mind the last Sandra Bullock movie I saw, The Lost City (Adam Nee, Aaron Nee, 2022), in which she plays a woman who gets swept up into an unexpected adventure. Bullock is not the only actress who lands in that kind of film, but she's been the prototypical heroine of them since her breakthrough movie, Speed (Jan de Bont, 1994). In Fay Grim Posey fits the part as well as or even better than Bullock. It's nominally a sequel to Henry Fool (1997), in which Hal Hartley introduced us to Fay, her brother, Simon (James Urbaniak), and the enigmatic Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan). All you need to know from that film is that Fay and Henry had a son, Ned (Liam Aiken), and that Simon went to prison because he helped Henry flee the country to avoid a murder rap. Now, an Agent Fulbright (Jeff Goldblum) from the CIA is suddenly in touch with Fay to see if she knows the whereabouts of the notebooks Henry kept. He claimed to be writing a sort of confessional novel that publishers had told him was unpublishable. Henry is dead, Fulbright tells her, but the notebooks may have significance no one has previously suspected. And so begins an elaborate chase that takes Fay to Paris and Istanbul, and involves Simon (whom she gets sprung from prison) and Ned (who receives a mysterious clue in the mail), as well as a lot of intelligence agents and terrorists from all over Europe and the Middle East. Fay Grim becomes as intrepid as Jason Bourne or James Bond in the process. Posey's performance holds it all together and makes me wonder why she's not as big a star as Bullock. It's fun to see some of these characters again, but by wading so deeply into spy spoof territory Hartley has lost the control that made Henry Fool such a fresh new start for his career, and some of his recently acquired mannerisms -- like the tilted camera, the so-called "Dutch angle" -- are tiresome.

Introduction of Sorts + Interests
This page will really be for me to get back into writing, develop my writing and indulge myself. I’m open to requests though but ask people to definitely contextualize your Bias (person you’re requesting for—yes I’m gonna use K-pop lingo oh well) and/or the scenario cause otherwise I’d simply write for myself. Which is why I also am making this page because I’ve been on tumblr for 10 years (my main account turned ten this year) and I’m worn out of the smut fest no prose or story fics. Definitely has its place in the community but the older I get the more I need actual full blown delusion. I need scene, setting, set up, climax, denouement…and so I’ll fulfill the order myself. 🫡
My interests:
(Im a 2010s coded Tumblr user so uh, I mean I suppose Dr Who and Supernatural aren’t 😂😂😂😂lmao ew anyway (I was into supernatural I’m ewwing at you and myself) .
Too I usually am not following everything that’s mainstream (I know im so cool) so also if something isn’t listed I most likely know of it—but went no further. I also like older anime and media so if you have something super specific that feels out of place no worries. Im gonna end up writing Greek smut about Dionysus so…🤷🏾‍♀️
Anime: (I’ve seen actually too much anime to name so here’s the ones I have a bias or have an affinity for the characters)
JJK,
Chainsaw Man
Bleach
Naruto
Demon Slayer
Attack on Titan
Fate Series
Etc
Manga:
JJK
Chainsaw Man
Bleach
Attack on Titan
Spy x Family
DanDanDan
Berserk
Etc
Fave genres are horror/seinen, shoujo, and slice of life.
KPOP: (1st-mid 3rd Gen main but still aware of 4th gen pretty deeply)
I dont really want to do requests for idols but I don’t mind overall, explained further below
My fave boy groups (somewhat in order): Big Bang, Shinee, BAP, BTS (ex-army, long story**, don’t come to my page with that bullshit 💕) B1A4, IKON, EXO, 2PM, GOT7…I could go on. (I’m not gonna list them in an order but my heart can’t not include MBLAQ, Teen Top, U-Kiss, etc ugh those were the days😭)
Girl Groups (in definitive order): 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls, F(x), Girls Generation, TWICE, 4Minute/Hyuna, Wonder Girls, Secret, After School, Global Icon (short lived), Tiny G ( VERY short lived), EXID, Ladies Code, etc.
Now 4th Gen…is cute…they got CUTE people that’s for sure. This list will be co-ed simply because I’m not feral for boy groups like I was younger. Really the boy groups don’t do it for me (4th gen overall criticism tbh) cause it’s really looks and kinda arrogant personalities I find obnoxious given y’all can’t even publicly date or be seen smoking…tone down the elitist vibe lol. But shade aside I do jam some things and have a playlist for my fave 4th gen songs so for sure no hate just a BOMBASTIC side eye sometimes. Anyway…
Stray Kids
Aespa
Lessaraffim (I’m gonna leave it like my mind spells it, enjoy)
NCT 127 (specifically them ((in reference to the units)) cause I enjoy R&B coded K-pop, they do too much Niggaboo shit (looking at Mark and Taeyong DIRECTLY in the eyes 👁️👄👁️)((BUT it’s a Soo Man thing cause him, YG, and JYP competing over who wish they were a born a Black man the most…Soo Man and JYP ✨fist fighting✨over the top spot IYKYK)
New jeans (they’re minors and if they all aren’t their def much younger than me so no requests for minors please this is for taste assessment only)
BIBI and other female soloists (Hyuna, Sunmi, Ga-in, Lee Hyori, etc)
IVE (they really got some bops tbh, this is another TWICE case of let these young women talk and sing how they naturally would…music and live performances will thank them for it)
Nobody really else I guess honorable mentions are Ateez, Fifty-fifty,
———————————————————————
*im gonna add that for Anime/Manga the double dipping means some combination of me knowing the material in both forms of media. Like Jujutsu Kaizen is an amazing example currently as of course the anime is ongoing but the manga is far ahead by a large portion of plot. So if your anime only, manga only, or something be sure to let me know so I’m not spoiling by accident. Don’t want the smut to spoil a character death or something….right? 😅
**the long story short and overall caveat of why I’ve fallen out of love for groups and K-pop are the fact that yeah as a Black person I genuinely started getting pissed off with colorism, n-word usage, appropriation, and mockery. The shit gets old and as a poor old super fan I’m happy I didn’t spend the money people do for folks who would literally refuse my hand…🫤 be fr. Likewise, the deaths of idols who were literally my biases really (of course) bothered me and took a toll on my enjoyment of the genre too. The more you love it the more you learn and that’s usually where the fun ends and now it’s numbers charts and placements. Lame 😭. I let the time I was fan be that but otherwise ? Eh I’m good I’ll bop from time to time and catch the tea but my bread in my pocket (besides my B1A4 What’s Happening and Twice Scientist albums😂)((and the other old albums I’ll get before they disappear forever or get destroyed🫠))
But yeah that’s that on that. I’ll be posting whatever ends up decent enough to be read by others. Otherwise wherever this ends up hope you drop a message🥸!

"I am not the sun" by Maude Latour
DV:
On the one hand you don't want to judge people for who their parents are; on the other it's not every aspiring popstar whose dad is the publisher of The Wall Street Journal and CEO of Dow Jones and mom works for S&P Global. Most artists don't get a NYT writeup after releasing their first major label EP! Maude Latour did.
She's also releasing some of the most fascinating pop music I've heard this year. "I am not the sun" is less specific than a banger like earlier single "Lunch" but trades that song's lyrical depth for stylistic daring, leaning on atmosphere and pitchshifted backing vocals to deliver an immersive, enveloping microverse of a song. The structure remains unmistakeably pop (and the hooks are still there) but this sounds unlike almost anything on the radio right now, the sort of alternate universe pop music that I've always been a sucker for. That's what also marks "I am not the sun" - and Latour in general - as exemplars of a movement I'm calling post-Kitty. This is genre-agnostic pop, generally irony free and emotionally intense and catchy - but in a way that works better in small rooms than big ones. No one could sing the chorus to "I am not the sun" in a stadium, but you absolutely could chant it with a couple hundred people at a club where the bar and the concert floor are roughly the same size. It's inviting and just slightly off-kilter, welcomingly weird. More artists should take these kinds of chances, regardless of their pedigree.
MG:
Increasingly, the only aspiring popstars I hear are the ones with Daddy for major label backing. Blondshell, Samia, Buzzy Lee -- these are the rich girls getting snaps for their macaroni art. It's made me paranoid and I wonder of groups like The Last Dinner Party and Wet Leg, who arrived fully formed with hooks and guitar solos, clearly a head above their peers: are these industry plants or did they use Daddy's money to better obscure their identities?
And what is The Armed?
Maude Latour is very fine. "I am not the sun" starts out a bit like the Butthole Surfers' hit "Pepper," all baked and wavy, but it quickly scrambles up the polyvagal ladder into something more breathless and glitchy. Over the inspo-wall (of sound) Latour is kind of there, crooning but distant, emotional but taking stock in a clear-eyed way. I do not know who "I am not the sun" is for, other than Latour's friends and family. I guess, that's ok. And when your friends and family have all of God's money you can spend a savage amount trying to convince the online human life halfway between bot and sentient that you're a relatable girl making art for all the girlies out there. Personally, it couldn't be me because if it were I'd murder whoever made me feel these things and use Daddy's money to stay free.
Anyway, Kitty is great. Please stream Miami Garden Club, a timeless summer classic suitable for a range of events spanning getting high in your bedroom and wasting the day between dirty sheets to spying on your neighbors from your second floor balcony and assuming every muted conversation is discussion of a soon to be committed heist.

Embarrassing moment: I kept staring at a female passenger of a jeepney who seems to be my good friend back in high school when I was in second year college, and it turned out to be, well, it is actually her, except why is she riding the same jeepney route I take on the way home ? Good thing, I never asked if it's really her.
Drunk moment: I only take beer or alcohol on special occassions and on holidays, but I already smell like Red Horse beer, but not totally drunk, but I managed to climb up a stool to see a live band in a bar that we had a Christmas party back in first year college in 2015.
If there is one thing I can wish for: It would be time travel being possible, so I can see what I did when I was being teased by some schoolmates in elementary :))
