My current much-loved possession, an original 1993 copy of Space Marine. I wanted it for its lovely cover, mostly, (also physical media is supreme) even though it's seen better days. The pretty foil lettering has worn away in spots.

Inside is the timeline that was canon in 1993. You can still get this book today digitally, but I do not know if they include a timeline with it still, and if they do, if they kept it as it was for posterity or made updates.

A TIMELINE FOR THE WARHAMMER 40,000 UNIVERSE

15th Millennium - Humanity begins to colonise nearby solar systems using conventional sub-light spacecraft. At first, progress is painfully slow. Separated from Terra by up to ten generations in travel time, the new colonies have to survive mainly on local resources.

The Dark Age of Technology

20th Millennium - Discovery of warp drives accelerates the colonisation process and the early independent or corporate colonies become federated to Terra. The first alien races (including the ubiquitous Orks) are encountered. The development of the Navigator gene allows human pilots to make longer and faster 'jumps' through warp space than was previously thought possible. The great Navigator families, initially controlled by industrial and trading cartels, become a power base in their own right.

Humanity continues to explore and colonise the galaxy. Contacts are established with the Eldar and other alien races. A golden age of scientific achievement begins. Perfection of the Standard Template Construct (STC) system now permits an almost explosive expansion to the stars.

The Age of Strife

25th Millennium - Humanity reaches the far edges of the galaxy, completing the push to the stars begun over ten thousand years before. Human civilisation is now widely dispersed and divergent - with countless small colonies as well as many large, overpopulated planets. Localised wars and disputes with various alien races (especially the Orks!) continue, but pose no threat to the overall stability of human-colonised space. Then, two things happen almost simultaneously. First, humans with psychic powers begin to appear on almost every colonised world. Second, civilisation starts to disintegrate under the stress of widespread insanity, demonic possession, and internecine strife between these new 'psykers' and the rest of humanity. Countless fanatical cults and organisations spring up to persecute the psykers as witches, and/or degenerate mutants. At this time, the existence of the creatures of the warp (later known and feared as demons), and the dangers they pose to the human mind with newly awakened psychic powers, is far from understood.

Terrible wars tear human civilisation apart. Localised empires and factions fight amongst themselves as well as against fleets of Orks, Tyrannids [sic], and other aliens whose forces are quick to seize the opportunity to sack human space. Many worlds fall prey to the dominance of Warp Creatures whilst others revert to barbarism. Humans survive only on those worlds where psykers are suppressed or controlled. During this time, Terra is cut off from the rest of humanity by terrible warp storms, which isolate the home world for several thousand years, further accelerating the ruin of humanity.

The Horus Heresy

30th Millennium - Humanity itself teeters on the brink of the abyss of extinction. Civil war erupts throughout the galaxy as the Emperor of human space is betrayed by his most trusted lieutenant, the Warmaster Horus. Possessed by a demon from the warp, Horus seduces whole chapters of humanity's greatest warriors - the Space Marines - into joining his cause. When the final battle seems lost, the Emperor defeats Horus in single combat, but only at the cost of his own humanity.

His physical life maintained by artificial means, and his psyche by human sacrifice, the Emperor begins the long task of reconquering human space. With the creation by the Emperor of the psychic navigational beacon known as the Astronomican, the foundations are laid for the building of the Imperium, as it to be known in the 41st millennium. Fuelled by the dying spirits of those psykers who would otherwise fall prey to the demons of the warp, and directed by the Emperor's indomitable will, the Astronomican soon becomes an invaluable aid to Navigators throughout the galaxy. Interstellar travel becomes even easier and quicker, while the repression and control of psykers and creatures from the warp releases much of humanity from its hellish bondage.

The Age of the Imperium

41st Millennium - Throughout the portion of the galaxy known as the Imperium, humanity is bound within the organisations and strictures of the Administratum. The Emperor grows ever more detached from the day to day concerns of his mortal subjects, while the Inquisition works ceaselessly to protect humanity from the ever-present dangers posed by renegade psykers and the terrible creatures inhabiting warp space. The armies of the Imperium - the Guard and the almost superhuman Space Marines - maintain a constant vigil against the threat of invading Orks, Tyrannids [sic] and other aliens. But still the number of psykers increases steadily, and other more sinister groups associated with Warp Creature domination continue to gain ground...

・❥・ You know the photo wall she has in her room? Well in that gallery of hers she has a secret folder of just you. You doing your daily maintenance, you repairing Pompom’s stitches, you just b r e a t h i n g. Yeah.

・❥・ Dan Heng and you often spend hours together in the archive. You had the penchant of checking, and rechecking the organization of things. Your long periods of time together led to him feeling the most safe around you. You already knew of his secrets, but having him divulge it nonetheless still felt like being let into a state secret.

・❥・ Himeko has a suspicion you two aren’t related. In fact you have a feeling she already uncovered what you are. She is however, far too in love with trail blazing and being your sister that she doesn’t do anything to risk the status quo.

・❥・ Welt has the biggest love-hate relationship with you. You haven’t done anything bad per se. In addition to that, you’re the reason Himeko got to explore the stars, but memories of the past still haunt him. Each day he sees you handling the youngins edges him closer and closer to finally letting of go of his resentment.

・❥・ When Caelus isn’t dying inside by being close to you, he likes to be smug by showing how much “care” you put into him. Like the youngest child smirking at the older children as they get the most love and attention. Sometimes he gets himself injured on purpose to get your eyes on him and him alone.

・❥・ Unfortunately due to your presence destabilizing the Stellaron, you don’t get many chances to pamper the boy.

・❥・ Though you did give him a giant wearable trash-can, complete with breathability and protection against the elements.

・❥・ You also don’t go out much and prefer to watch over expeditions. You also make sure never to use your full power as to not alert other aeons aside from IX of your endeavors.

・❥・ Elio and Kafka vehemently worship you. The latter’s domination comes from your blessing.

After the Sunshoot campaign and for some reason Wei Wuxian is in Cloud Recess and Lan Qiren discovers that they don’t have a core. But the lan clan had a technique to fix a lost core for others that had been attacked by others that could melt their core. @nikkiwhitecraft

I was the requester for #1.

I am sure that part of the story that Wei Wuxian and Lan Q had to travel, and that was when it was discovered that Wei Wuxian had no core, and Lan Q was annoyed he never said anything and the Lan Clan had a technique to restore a core that was lost/melted as the core melting clan was known.

3. Hi! I’m searching for a fiction on AO3 where Wei Wuxian is a Rogue cultivator, he founds Lan Wangji floating in a river/lake and saves him. Wangji don’t remember anything due to the trauma he has suffered and his core is damaged altogether. He had a severe injury on his back but when he recovers he starts to travel with Wei Wuxian, not knowing his brother is searching for him. Because of his poor health issues he breakdown with a fever in the middle of a hunt, far from everything, during this time Lan Wangji loses consciousness, Wei Ying is visited by a strange fox spirit, really creepy whom he made a pact with to save Lan Wangji life's. In the history, Wei Ying has an uncle that reach both of them to advise something, Lan Wangji discorver to be a really powerfull fox spirit, i think they call him Huxia or something like this, Wei Ying "dies" by the venom of a fierce corpse (most like become one of them) and is ressurected by the Jade Emperor himself, the Demon subdue palace is actually a palace and Wangji's mother was the previous Huxia.

I’m going crazy cuz I remember ALL the history, but not the name of the fiction.

4. Hi, could you please help me find a wangxian fic? I apologize for the inconvenience, especially because i don’t remember much of the plot except select few parts of it and i dont remember if it was a thread on twitter or on ao3.

The scenes i do remember are as followed: Prior to this scene, wangxian might have had an argument or were avoiding each other because i dont think they had spoken to each other in a while. The scene i remember is WWX going to JYL’s place where everyone is gathered for a get together, wwx dotes over JL, going on about how he’s the favorite uncle. When he enters the living room, he sees LWJ on the couch, and sitting next to him is JZX half brother MXY talking to him. He thinks they are sitting a little too close and he gets a bit jealous but doesn’t say anything. I’m not sure if I remember it right, but i think people or mainly nhs kept saying how MXY resembles WWX, worsening the situation. Wangxian and their whole eye contact happens and everyone in the room is tense because of their interaction or lack their of. WWX suddenly goes to the bathroom, leaning into the sink…waiting and LWJ follows him in. They end up reconciling.

Thats all I remember, I know its not much, and i have been struggling as well because of it going through my bookmarks on ao3 and twitter. I’m hoping someone remembers this part as well and can mention the fic. Thank you!

But there was a scene where wrh manages to get wq married to lwj as a second wife, and wwx felt like he failed the Jiang-Lan alliance. And there was a big confrontation between wq and wwx, where she tells him the reason for the marriage was to save her family. And lwj might have been ill or cursed and wearing a mask (not sure).

7. Looking for help finding the name of this fic on ao3 I’m have trouble hunting it back down. Burial mounds settlement days canon divergence.

Essentially the premise is that the people living in Yiling often see Wei Ying taking care of and teaching A-Yuan by the river and a woman one day who was also there to wash her clothes asked him to look after her son while she was busy. This snowballed into Wei Ying basically running a little informal school out of Yiling where he teaches and just looks after any child that is brought there, including orphans and prostitute’s children which is kinda illegal. Lan Zhan knows and regularly visits. If the children show aptitude for cultivation they usually get sent to the Lan or (later in the story) the Jiang. The rest of the Wens kinda accidentally become a part of the Yiling community so much so that they all move out of the burial mounds and into the town proper. Because they’ve all left the mounds and disconnected pretty hard from the cultivation community they don’t even realize that the Jin’s sent people to attack the mounds. They found no one and declared to the world that they had slayed the rest of the wen dogs alongside Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng only finds out his brother is alive because he’s been informed that a small school in the Jiang territory hasn’t been paying taxes and when he goes to investigate finds Wei Ying safe and sound. @coffeehousefanfics

I’m pretty sure I found this fic on here but now I can’t seem to find it. I’m not sure if it was on a itmf or fic finder. But it’s the one where wwx takes a curse from some ghost in order for her to move on. It’s a curse where he can’t see or feel anyone that feels “strongly” about him. He assumes the juniors all either hate or fear him and I forgot what he assumed lwj. They say to break the curse he has to accept the others’ feelings. So he tried to accept the fact that jin ling hated him although jin ling did not mean what he said and was confused at how wwx reacted. I think lan jinyi was the one who figured out wwx couldn’t see them because he launched at him as if he was going to attack him and wwx didn’t flinch. In the end he starts seeing and feeling impressions of them until he can see them in full again. Please help? I’ve been through my history and bookmarks and all open tabs of ao3. No such luck.

Synopsis: Din Djarin is doing what any typical Mandalorian would be doing after reclaiming Mandalore, finding a riduur and settling down. He’s still a member of the Guild on Nevarro, taking bounties here and there to support his new family. But when he meets you while you’re working the front desk at an inn on Naboo, he finds himself hooked, feeling like he’s found something new and exciting in his now mundane life. How long can he keep up appearances with his riduur? And how long can he keep his little secret with you?

Series warnings: reader is able-bodied, set post season 3, canon divergent (long live the Razor Crest), some liberties taken with Mandalorian culture/weddings/marriages, infidelity, eventual smut (starts at chapter two!), switches between Reader and Din's POV, no use of y/n

You

It’s been only a handful of rotations since you’ve seen Din. This is the most you’ve missed him since being apart. Ever since your time on Aldhani together, you’ve never felt more connected to him. Stars, you’ve even told people about him. Not just random people but Lumya and Del. You mainly told Lumya because maybe now she’ll finally get the hint that you don’t need to be set up on random blind dates anymore. And of course, you told Del. She already knew about him vaguely when you told her you were going to Nevarro with him. But that’s all she knew about him, that he was just some mystery man who whisked you away off the planet. You brought her up to speed now about everything, who he is, where he’s from… his wife. That part made Del concerned, but that was to be expected. Del’s like a mother to you. But when you finished telling her about him all she said was, “It seems like you really love him but you’re playing a dangerous game, my dear. I'd hate to see you get hurt.”

It’s true. You’ve fallen for him hard, but after what he told you about his wife, about Mandalorian marriages, you’ve had to ask yourself; Is this what you want? To be bound to a man who’s never going to be completely committed to you and only you?

The lovesick part of you wants to latch onto him and hope he’ll change. The cynical part of you reminds you that he probably won’t but the lovesick side of you is louder, incessant even.

He loves you. He’s yours. You’re his. It’s as sure as every star illuminating the galaxy. As sure as the sun setting and the night sky permeating the atmosphere with its infinite darkness.

…Right?

You throw your bag over your shoulder and get ready to leave for the library, hoping to read about some other far-off place you and Din can go to together.

And that’s exactly what you do. You sit in your usual corner in the library, bouncing between reading physical books and digital ones on the library’s data pad. This time you’re reading about Tatooine. You know Din’s already been there from the stories he’s told you. You can’t imagine it’s actually enjoyable for him, being on that hot, sand-ridden planet under all that beskar. But you would love to see that binary sunset someday. Maybe with some convincing, he’ll take you there. Or even Coruscant. The capital of the galaxy is a must-do for any new traveler.

You spend Maker knows how long in there, finalizing a travel wish list before deciding to head back home. It’s time to gear up for another night of loneliness. You think about Din and what he’s doing now. Maybe he’s off chasing after another bounty. Maybe he’s home eating dinner with his son and his wife… Maybe he’s having sex with his wife. The thought of that makes your stomach threaten to empty its contents right here on the street. He said they didn’t do that, though. So there’s a chance that’s not what he’s doing at this exact moment. But that’s also kind of messed up, that him having sex with his own wife makes your stomach turn. She would feel the same way if only she knew about the nights you and Din spent together, the way he made your body shake with pleasure and the most sincere words of love and affirmation he showers you with. If you were in her shoes, it would kill you to know that your husband doesn’t feel that way about you, but instead some random woman on another planet across the galaxy.

As you turn onto your street, Din’s there, resting against the building like he was waiting for you. You’re a bit taken aback at first. You didn’t expect to see him so soon. Not that you’re not happy to see him. You’re always happy to see him. But something about his body language is setting you off. Even without seeing his face and under all the armor you can read him like a book. The anticipation swirls in your stomach.

“Ca’tra…” he trails off in an uneasy tone, like he’s about to tell you something terrible and it’s on the tip of his tongue, the words threatening to break loose and cut you like a knife.

“…Yes?” you ask, adding a hopeful, sing-songy tone in your voice to try and cut some of the tension.

“I have to tell you something,” he says.

“Okay… Do you want to go somewhere else? Somewhere more private?” you respond, trying to keep cool as your stomach sinks.

“Back to the Crest.”

“Of course,” you nod, but he doesn’t even really wait for a response, turning and heading towards the outskirts of Theed as you follow him.

His stance is stuff and his hands keep clenching and unclenching at his sides. You’re fearing the worst; that his wife went psycho on him, that he’s here to tell you he can never see you again, that he’s going to try to patch things up with her. The world and its elements distort around you, voices and sounds drowning out into a monotonous white noise. Your palms grow sweaty and your feet feel like they’re a thousand pounds each. It feels like you’re walking headfirst into your greatest fear, that your true blue love is about to leave you and travel back home across the galaxy, never to be seen by you again.

The stone streets eventually turn into a grassy field beneath your feet. It's a beautiful day, the sun beaming down and bouncing off of Din’s armor and the breeze making his cape billow in the wind. The Razor Crest is perched at the bottom of a hill in the distance; a sight that normally means you’re about to go on a great adventure together. But today it signifies something else.

He takes you inside the Crest, leading you up the ramp. He closes it once you’re both inside, making sure it’s completely locked like he did on Aldhani, before turning and walking towards you slowly.

“Din, you’re scaring me.”

“I’m not… I’m not trying to.”

“Well, what is it?”

A pause. He lifts his helmet off his head, setting it down on a crate beside him. You’re flooded with the memory of the last time he took off his helmet in front of you, the first and only other time. But the memory is washed away quickly when you look at the state of his face; a weathered, defeated look, his eyes swollen and red. You open your mouth to ask what’s going on again but he speaks first.

“I lost everything.”

“What do you mean everything?”

“I’m an apostate again.”

“...What happened?”

“May must’ve had her suspicions… because when I returned to Mandalore I was questioned by the Armorer.”

“Who?”

“She’s a well-respected leader of the Children of the Watch.”

“Okay…”

“And when she asked me if I had broken the terms of my riduurok I could not lie.”

“So she declared you an apostate again?”

“Permanently.”

Permanently. Maker, he must be lost right now. A pit opens up in your heart for him but there’s also a nagging, almost selfish voice in the back of your mind.

Can’t you two finally be together now?

If he loved you as much as he said he did, wouldn’t you be enough to save him from the pits of despair? Isn’t your love enough to keep him from spiraling out of control?

“Din…” you say softly, mentally bracing yourself for what you’re about to suggest. You take a deep breath before asking in a small and delicate voice, “Can’t we be together now?”

He doesn’t say anything, a specific look consuming his face, a look that you can’t quite determine what it’s trying to convey.

And then it hits you. It’s almost as if he’s looking at a wounded animal; a wounded animal who’s holding onto hope and he’s about to put it out of its misery.

“Without my creed, I am nothing.”

“...Not even if you have me?”

He says nothing and his silence enrages you. He thinks he can come into your life and make a mess, blaming it all on his creed. But what about you? What about the life he meddled with just because he was unhappy with his own life? That’s not fair to you.

He doesn’t need to answer. And… he shouldn’t get to.

“You know what? You just use your creed as a crutch; as an excuse,” you start, the words coming out shaky and unsure of themselves. You wait a beat for his response but he doesn’t have one, looking at you with a dumbfounded, open-mouthed expression.

“You can’t just come into my life and change everything; change me and then claim you cannot commit yourself to me because of your creed. Well, your creed is gone now so what’s your excuse? It’s because you’re nothing but a coward; a coward who now has to deal with the consequences of his actions,” you finish, your tone growing firmer and angrier as you conclude your thoughts. Without even realizing it, you’re in his face, pointing your finger at him, and tears threatening to spill over onto your cheeks.

“But ca’tra, ni kar'tayl gar darasuum.”

“Don’t call me that.”

As if you’re snapped out of your angry trance, you take a step back and press your palms to your eyes, willing yourself to not have a full breakdown in front of him. He doesn’t get to see you at your lowest point, not when he’s betraying you like this.

Tears are rolling down his cheeks and a look of realization hits him. He’s losing everything as if that wasn’t evident to him before. He’s helpless, at a loss for what to do or say next.

“I’m sorry I’m the one you love.”

“...That’s all you have to say?”

He doesn’t respond but you don’t even care anymore. The damage is done and there’s nothing he can say to change the fact that you can’t be with him anymore. The breakdown is hitting you like a ton of bricks and it’s showing no signs of stopping. It’s too painful to be here with him, in the very space where you saw his face for the first time, in the very ship that allowed you to finally leave Naboo. The memories are tainted now. They’re dead in your mind. The feeling inside you is nothing but grief; grief for what was really never yours in the first place.

It’s time to go. Now.

You’re frantically pressing the buttons to lower the ramp for the Crest. Everything is a blur and the ringing in your ears is so piercingly loud that you can’t tell if Din is calling after you or not. It’s hard to tell if you even care. Your mind is occupied with one thing and one thing only; run as fast as you can.

And you do, running through the fields back towards Theed, never looking back once.

All you can do is leave him in the past, where he belongs.

This soul stone is surrounded by the actual projection of ourselves, similar to how a heart is encased inside the body. It cannot be taken out easily. In fact, the only ones who can remove anyones soul stone from their physical projection is the First spinjitzu master, Sensei Wu, Sensei Garmadon, and the consciousnesses of the two realms of the dead. Other then them, not even the person whose soul stone it is can remove it from it’s home, and its no easy task for the ones who can either.”

“…If all of that is true, then how are we both looking at your soul stone?”

“….Unfortunately, my soul stone had faced extreme abuse years ago, leaving it fractured and….weak.”

“Is that why it has pieces floating around it? It looks almost like a planet, surrounded by its moons…”

“An interesting comparison.”

“Ahm…that’s besides the point. Why are you showing me this? If its so delicate that it can almost never be removed from its home, then why would it help us in our mission?”

“…the merge, has shown to create unique consequences over the years. One of such, being the slow return of the Preeminent.”

“What.”

“I can’t explain in too much depth to what had happened, we don’t nearly have that much time and I need to use it sparingly.”

“What are you talking about?!-”

“A soul stone is indeed delicate, Lloyd. So delicate, so precious, that the very existence of a soul relies on it.”

“The..what?..”

“If my soul stone gets into the wrong hands, if it faces too much harm, I will no longer be able to keep it connected and in ‘one piece’ as I have so far. I will be erased from existence, and so will all the knowledge I have so painstakingly collected.”

“…Where are you planning to go, Morro?”

“…A place I should’ve visited years ago.”

Will there be a fanfic of this? Probably not, since i can’t stick to finishing stories.

Anyways, take Morro from an AU i created in my head, theres no other content of it other then half completed stories in my notes/word documents and this post.

If anyone rlly wants me to, i can go more into depth of this AU and give it a name. But for now, all you need to know is that its mainly canon compliant, just with a few changes to the story of Morro and then the actual canon divergence starts during the merge. Some things before that will also be changed to fit ideas i have and things i like, such as the issue with Lloyds age.

Oh, alsooo! Morro in this drawing is still a ghost, but in this AU to differentiate departed ghosts from cursed, cursed ghosts look like how they did in the show and Morro’s og design, but departed ghosts tend to look more like how they did when they were alive (with some differences and yknow, being see- through)

So Morro in this looks like how his Departed ghost form would in this AU

I also realised that the gi itself looks a lot like Cole’s because of the black and orange. Pretend the orange is grey/green/yellow, pls and thank you.

I had fun drawing this with another newly acquired art style, this is also one of my first few times drawing Morro and being happy with it. Turns out i am very picky when drawing characters i like over literally anything else.

Summary: In a world where the gentry families are both shapeshifters, and rulers of their territory in truth, a different war is started by greed. During its course the paths of a human and a dragon shifter cross, and from that, something grows. Kay's comments: This story has really enjoyable world-building and I loved to see the sects re-imagined as shifters. Like in canon, a war plays out between the sects in this story. However, the allegiances are different and in the end, the Jiangs are on the losing side and the story follows how Wei Wuxian ended up being turned over to the Lans and then promptly courted by Hanguang-Jun himself. Even during the war on opposing sides, Wangxian had already hit it off and their developing relationship in this story was right up my alley! Lan Wangji truly knows how to treat Wei Wuxian as he deserves and shower him in love and appreciation! Excerpt: Wei Ying’s part of the border had held, in contrast to the one near the coast. And so, it had been deemed more important that he guard their back against Gusu. It meant that Wei Ying had spent the last month skirmishing with Lan Wangji, Hanguang-Jun. Heir of Gusu and, as all of the main Lan clan, dragon shifter. Truly an awesome sight in his dragon form, Wei Ying had never seen anything as beautiful as that. All sleek, white scales, with ice blue accents, swift and elegant in the air. But fighting him directly like that? Not his idea of fun. Bears at least stayed on the ground. It had involved a lot of tactically chosen cover, talisman work and quick, intense duels. He was managing to hold the border, despite still having mainly common troops, and a few of the other outer disciples. But this would not work forever. For the moment, his requests for reinforcement had been denied, due to the Nie and Wen effectively pressing the Jin and Yu – the Nie had been joined by Zewu-Jun and his men, which was making things very difficult for the Jin. As Wei Ying had expected, their side was crippled by power plays and politics. There were factions in the Jin sect, each jockeying for the most prestigious postings. The Yu were too proud to accept someone outside their sect commanding their troops. And Jiang Cheng was terrible at cooperation. It was a mess held together by Jiang Fengmian’s efforts at diplomacy, and the hope for gains.

note. a (late) response to this ask: I love love 💕 your dating HCs and was wondering if you’d be up for doing one for kento? 💜 . i've had this in my drafts for months, practically done, and finished it up while waiting at the vet last night. takes place in canon, but diverges (he doesn't die).

kento often told himself that a relationship was the last thing that he wanted; that he was too busy, too tired, too dangerous. someone in his profession had no right to love another when any day could be his last. he found the idea of leaving a lover to grieve over him downright cruel.

but he hadn’t expected to become so charmed with the sorceress assigned to assist him in kyoto. it was all cordial at first—business. but you were so chatty and bright, a gentle ray of sunlight amongst the gore and grief the cursed spirit left in its wake. there was plenty of downtime while locating the curse that left you two with nothing but the chance to get to know another. at first he absently answered your simple questions, mind occupied with the mission and getting back Tokyo on time.

unlike with gojo, kento didn’t grit his teeth and count to ten dozens of times to keep his temper in check. because you didn’t ask too much of him, you were sweet and friendly and respected his boundaries. you were insightful and put him at ease. you made him laugh, not realizing how long it’s been since he’s laughed like that. eventually, his eyes sought yours more often than not.

it turned out you two had several things in common as well as similar values; you appreciated the simple things in life that were sometimes overlooked and scarce in jujutsu society. like treating yourself to your favorite dessert buffet in kawaramachi. other times, you look to the buzz of alcohol in your bloodstream to remind you that you’re no different from the people that you save. even you, in all your esteemed abilities, look to vices.

we like to believe we’re above these things, but sometimes we need vices to keep us sane, you drunkenly said, pouring him another glass of beer. kento agreed with your statement, thinking of the carton of cigarettes in the inner pocket of his jacket. he put the glass to his lips, sneaking a glance at the delicate slope of your throat as you gulped down your drink. vices don’t always have to mean that we’re weak-willed. it’s what makes us human. want some of my fried chicken, nanami? that was at the izakaya on the final night of your mission.

it’d been a long time since kento felt he could let down his guard (somewhat) and find comfort in the presence of another person. then again, he thought, who wouldn't find solace in someone as lovely as yourself?

the assignment went well, he thinks. even now, kento can barely recall that mission aside from the curve of your smile, the sound of his name on your lips, the longing he felt when it was all over, and that conversation about vices.

he’d like to say that his mind was plagued with thoughts of you, but it was less curse and more like blessings and grace.

and when you met again during the exchange event, you were straightforward and asked him out for a drink. a date. kento declined after half a second of hesitation—he respects you and your abilities, but he’s not interested in dating or relationships. he was firm and ignored the tightness in his chest at the disappointment in your eyes, the way you wilted just slightly. but you smiled and took it in stride, brushing off the rejection. it only made him want you more.

there's small hands cupping his face to give him morning kisses. there's the caprise sandwich served to him on a warm afternoon, made with the bread from his favorite bakery. there's the first edition of haibara's favorite manga that you spent months looking for, nestled inside a birthday gift bag. there's the scent of your perfume lingering on the lapels of his jacket. there's the little white stick, wrapped in a clear sandwich bag, that you're holding out to him with a shy, excited smile.

hi! i think about your stories every day, mainly because i think your joels are one of the best ever.

i really want to know, in your opinion, what is the most integral aspect of canon joel? and do you think its important to maintain it in canon divergent stories like yours?

sorry for the stupid analysis question i just really love your writing and want to know more about your thoughts on this character!!

yeeeha my two fav things joel miller and character analysis

i think i look at joel and see an umbrella of traits and attributes. he's incredibly strong-willed, he's courageous, he's loyal, he's observant (to name a few). but he's also burdened with this sort of...fear, i guess? this hesitation to allow himself the experience of loving, of needing and wanting - and i think all of this lumps together and sits comfortably under this protector, provider character i see him as.

he is fiercely protective of those he loves. zero hesitation. he'll show up every fucking time. regardless of who or what tries to stop him. and he cares; even when he doesn't want to, even when he knows he doesn't need to, even when it's buried someplace deep inside him and he doesn't necessarily feel safe or comfortable enough to let it show. to me, he's an incredibly complex character whose motivations and biggest strife all stem from this one thing: he can't not protect. he can't ignore it. it's in his nature.

as for your second question - i think it's a personal preference! each writer will do it differently, each reader will enjoy it differently. i personally like to stick to how i think joel would behave in any of the situations i put him in, because canon joel is legit everything to me lol. but the way i see canon joel will be slightly different to the next, and the next, and so on and so forth! that's the beauty of fanfic and creating art from art.

most of my stuff so far has been very canon-divergent, but i still stick to the core characteristics i see in joel: sometimes, a story requires more of one side to him than the other (e.g. in sof, he resembles the joel we see in the pt ii flashbacks with ellie - his wit and humor - rather than the stoic, emotionless joel we first meet in pt i), but still very much traits i see in him.

personally, for my writing and my joels, it is important to me that they hold onto those core aspects. as long as he's a little grumpy, a little funny, and would watch the world burn to keep his loved ones' toes warm, i can make him do anything. that's the fun of it to me.

Danganronpa Fic Recs!!

In my six years of being a Danganronpa fan I've read a lot of fanfiction, so I've decided to compile a list of some of my personal favourites (in no particular order) for your perusal. Contains very minor plot spoilers, but nothing beyond what the tags/descriptions will tell you. Bear in mind these are mainly V3 because that's my favourite, but there are a couple of others. Enjoy :D

New Danganronpa V3BOOT: Killing Harmony Redux - EternalSailorNeptune_53.

Unique in the fact that not only is it a Talentswap AU, but a Simulation AU as well. The general premise is that DRV3 wound up being such a monumental disappointment of a season that Shirogane is forced to rewrite it and try again.

Something that stands out about this fic in particular is its characterization. It tweaks the personalities and backstories of the cast to fit their new talents, all while remaining fundamentally true to their canon counterparts. There's a new death order, new motives, and all of the jokes hit. It's really funny but also made me cry at a few points. Ships include SaiMatsu, KoreKichi, TenMiko and some mild ShinToujo.

2. Taming the Wild Ones - DRonpaFanGirl

Hajime centric talentless AU. It's been quite a while since I've read this one, but if memory serves, it's set in a boarding school for troublemakers that Hajime gets sent to after getting into one too many fights. It explores the relationships between the characters, and touches on themes of mental health. It's written in the first person which I know can be a deterrent for many, but the dialogue is so good that it's easy to look past even if you usually don't like that sort of thing. There's a sequel that I haven't read yet myself, but I'm sure it's probably just as entertaining as the first one. Ships include Komahinanami (with a heavier focus on Hinanami than Komahina & Komanami), + background Saimatsu, Kaimaki, Izuru/Celestia, and Mondo/Mukuro.

3. The Powerful Skeletons Series - EternalLoveSong

Another V3 Talentswap AU, except this time it's a collection of shorter fics, currently about 27 of them, set in the same talentswap universe. It features Supreme Leader Maki, Assassin Kokichi, Inventor Shuichi, and Servant Rantaro to name a few, and each character gets the spotlight at some point. I don't have a lot to say about these but they're very good.

4. Alternative Ending, New Beginning - CrowSandwhich

V3 Chapter 5 canon divergence AU, in which various factors (Maki) cause Kokichi's plan to backfire before he can complete it. Due to his injuries, he winds up confined to the hangar by the rest of the survivors, under the belief that he's the mastermind. Incredibly engaging, but tragically discontinued. Kokichi & Kaito centric, no ships.

5. Irreplaceable - apollo_python

Set many years after the events of V3. The participants of the final killing game have all disappeared under mysterious circumstances, with the exception of Shuichi and Kokichi, who've been out of contact and down on their luck since the game ended. At Shuichi's insistence, they take it upon themselves to find their missing former classmates. A Saiouma thriller/mystery with a heavy focus on their relationship. Ships include Saiouma, and background Kaimaki/Irumatsu.

Recapping the AUs I'll talk about below:

New Kid - "William falls for Odd in S2" AU

Odd is Alone - "Canon!Odd gets thrown into the William/Odd roleswap world" AU

Let's talk about New Kid first:

New Order gets turned on its head just a bit. William is the new kid and he's going through the motions of learning just about everything that Kadic has to offer.

He's not gonna figure out everything from day 1, though Yumi is pretty chill with him from the get-go. She's the one who tries to show him around before classes get going. Then there's Odd butting his nose in, curious about the new student in town.

William gets a brief time to spend with both Odd and Yumi. Then things shift when it's time for the class trip for Mrs Hertz project.

Odd pities Ulrich floundering in his "will they won't they" relationship with Yumi. That and he pretty much knows that Ulrich will likely brood if he catches William and Yumi together.

So he nips that right in the bud and pairs up with William, Kiwi secret be damned. This leaves Yumi and Ulrich to pair up, while Aelita and Jeremie are set to pair as well.

At first Odd is just a neat friend. William is awed in how much Odd goes against the rules too given he's instantly exposed to Kiwi. Kiwi's pretty much an open secret to the student body, so Odd's not too worried showing him to William.

Odd's chatter makes the assignment go by pretty quickly. William didn't mind hearing more about the school at all, nor did he mind the constant topic shifts. Honestly, it was nice just to relax for once after all this change.

At one point, it isn't just Odd's chatter filling the air. William joins in as well, talking about his previous expulsion, how Delmas was pretty forgiving in letting him attend a new school, etc.

Things have a way of diverging from here. In one timeline, Odd has to take off to help find Aelita. Ulrich and Yumi get trapped and nearly boiled alive. William's interest flounders given Odd up and leaves without warning while he was talking.

Another timeline plays out given a return to the past. William's heart soars at the time spent with Odd. He wants to get to know him more. He thinks he's in love all over again.

Meanwhile Odd's just trying to settle back into this rewind. It doesn't really register how much he's bonded with William given the RTTP shot him back mid-conversation.

Thus post-New Order the hijinks will begin to ensue. William's case is interesting because I treat this affection towards Odd initially as puppy love. Throughout S2 he'll get to know Odd better than just from the first day and will constantly insist that it has to be love.

I imagine that A Bad Turn is where Odd's part of the crush starts to kick in. Although William getting out of "puppy love" stage -> actual potential relationship type of love would likely be around Ultimatum given the whole conflict in that episode.

In the meantime, it's mainly William being a dork trying to profess his love. Odd's oblivious here and just thinks William is being a good friend. It doesn't really register that the time spent together allowed the boy to crush on him so fast haha

Ulrich and Yumi are reading the room differently. Yumi understands that William is crushing on Odd, but given she's also heard about why William got expelled from his last school she worries that him getting involved with Odd would lead to a ton of issues (especially when it comes to XANA).

Meanwhile Ulrich isn't getting the memo much either, he accidentally comes to the conclusion that the boy is crushing on Yumi. It takes til Marabounta to clear this up by William having to flat out spell it out for Ulrich. After that Ulrich is still incredibly snarky but doesn't get on William's case. In fact, he teases the other about Odd's obliviousness.

Aelita and Jeremie are the only sane people here lmao, at first Jeremie was in a similar boat with Yumi re: William (i.e. nothing but trouble, could be bad for the group) but Aelita convinces him to give it a chance and see if it even works out compared to flat out disagreeing with it.

"New Kid" probably wraps up in Revelation rather than The Key.

Alright as for the "Odd is Alone" AU:

This guy I have planned out wayyy too much compared to some of the other Odd-shots. I think Cherrybird and Trio are AI AUs are the only ones that have a ton to them that can compare to this one besides like Drain/Adaptation which are akin to true one-shots.

This story takes the concept of "Triple Trouble" and just fucking books it into the complete other direction haha

Also headcanon's galore re: Odd's family. This fic in particular (and technically Cherrybird too) consider Odd's family as rich folk. They're happy with their jobs given they can provide for their kids, but sometimes their too in love with it. Practically to the point where they neglect their kids.

Hence Odd getting raised mostly by his sisters rather than parents, etc etc

So "Odd is Alone" runs with the idea that Odd is peeved for more reasons than just feeling useless on Lyoko. His parents forget his birthday, sending their well wishes way too late.

This rubs off on his Lyoko performance and well, this just makes him feel worse. The kill counts are joked about and Odd doesn't want to bring up why he felt terrible heading into Lyoko, so he instead blames his lack of power.

Next day things still aren't going his way and then Jeremie obviously comes in with the solution of a new power.

Off to their last sector, the Mountain Sector, Odd and Aelita await the all clear by Jeremie. Once it's explained a bit more to Odd he cheerfully tells Aelita he'll see her around. Then he activates Teleportation and it all falls apart from here.

Odd opens his eyes and he can instantly tell something's wrong. The place he envisioned himself landing at has completely shifted. It was supposed to be a rocky mesa with a simple tree.

It should not have been a large plateau instead decorated in specks of sand and snow. The tree that he saw before his teleport had grown tremendously, its roots ripping through the ground enough to truly highlight just how much the ground had changed.

...and yeah, if I keep going I'd just flat out try to drabble this haha

Just imagine a sector that is all four in one. That's only one of the major shifts in this AU because reasons I don't want to reveal yet if I ever do write about this properly.

"Odd is Alone" kicks off from there. There's some instant conflict that he gets exposed to between his copycat self, the crazy ability his other self exhibits to create and control new monsters at whim, and of course his friends are not exactly his friends right now. Although some things seem to stay the same, given he does save Aelita from the Scyphozoa as per usual. Then Ulrich devirtualizes him and it sinks in that this is very much not the world he lived in.

Odd integrates himself in this new world given he can't help his curiosity one bit. He looks at a life where he arrived way later at Kadic than what he did in his world.

He gets to interact with a William who joined the group from the get-go, a more closed off Ulrich (him and William don't hit off their friendship compared to canon Odd and Ulrich... plus, the love triangle did its damage), a very paranoid Jim, dealing with this version's Sam, etc.

Yumi is also interesting here given Cruel Dilemma didn't happen. Although with what occurs in this version's Just in Time... well... there's certainly some shifts.

I mentioned this the first time I chatted about this AU but the other Odd got to keep Kiwi on Kadic grounds without him being illegal. His parents are much more involved in his life after Louise sold out just what he planned to do earlier (hence why he didn't go to Kadic that day). William's parents didn't really accept his rebellious nature and sent him off to Kadic from the get-go on the day Odd should've attended.

Oh and don't get me started on how the polymorphic Odd clone is. Triple Trouble forma de three Odds existing at the same time in one world haha

It's funny at first but then it gets a bit depressing when the world is very much against that given the conflict to send Odd back to his world is a) his body is disappearing and b) getting devirtualized rewrote his programs to try to match his other self. He uh, lost Teleportation for Future Flash all over again. Whoops!

Rest goes from there if I keep going I'll just spill the entire plot at this point lmao
