A Bird in the Hand...(Birds of a Feather Part 8)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
Damian Al-Ghul did not do fear.
But he was rapidly becoming acquainted with mind-numbing, heart-constricting panic.
“Did you see her leave?” Damian demanded of the young maid who he’d had to convince to open the door for him.
“No.” The woman said. She eyed him suspiciously.
“Get out.” Damian said.
“But-” The young woman started.
Damian glared at her. She shut up and walked out, putting a little piece of paper over the doorknob as she left.
For a long moment he wanted to delude himself into thinking he’d just wandered into the wrong room. Because this room looked utterly untouched. Like Raven hadn’t ever even set foot inside it.
But he looked out the window and knew that was a lie. He remembered that view. It had highlighted her impish silhouette last night in a way that made him want to write sonnets about moonlight on raven’s wings.
But she was very much not there. And likely hadn’t been the entire night. He knew better than to hope that she would have gone to Titan’s Tower without him.
There were no signs of a struggle. No indications that she’d left by force. Which meant either she’d been very professionally kidnapped (an unlikely scenario given her overall jumpy demeanor), or she’d left by choice.
And Damian knew that if Raven did not want to be found, he knew he would not.
He began to pace. Sifting through the day’s memories. The night’s. Trying to find some indication that she’d been intending this all along, because Raven was not the type to just leave. She would have had to have shown some sign, or something would have had to happen to -
Fuck.
It was the only possibility that made sense.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
If she’d found her way to his room last night, and by some god-forsaken reason heard his chat with Mara...
His fists clenched. He wanted to smash everything in that room.
He wanted to destroy it all. Turn it all to dust and ash.
He wanted to run.
He wanted to find her.
Except, if she was hiding from him, he would not find her.
He blinked. He couldn’t. But he didn’t have to do this on his own.
He scrambled for the phone on the beside table, dialing a number that seemed to pop into his head out of sheer need.
She picked up on the second ring.
“It’s Raven. She’s disappeared.” Damian said.
“We’ll be there in five.” Starfire answered.
Starfire was true to her word. Or at least, Cyborg was.
“Victor Stone.” The big man said, holding out a boulder-sized hand for him to shake.
“Damian Way-. Damian.” He said.
No one made comment on his truncated introduction.
“What happened?” Starfire asked.
“I saw her to her room last night, and when I came to see if she wanted breakfast this morning, she was gone. No signs of struggle. No clues of any kind. As far as I can tell she just...left.”
Behind him Beast Boy had transformed into a basset hound and was sniffing animatedly around.
After a few moments he said “She was definitely here. But I think she must have created a portal or something. It smells kind of...metallic.”
“We need Zatanna, or Constantine.” Cyborg said.
Starfire was nodding.
“For what?” Damian asked.
“A locator spell.” Cyborg explained.
“But we still have to follow up on Batman and Nightwing.” Jaime pointed out.
Starfire considered. “We split into two teams, then. One goes looking for Nightwing and Batman, the other goes looking for Raven.”
“I can handle getting to a magician.” Cyborg said.
Starfire nodded. “And I will go after Batman and Nightwing.”
“Team Raven.” Jaime joked.
Damian had every intention of saying Raven. The world was in his mouth, the sound curled around his tongue.
But then he remembered what had probably gotten them into this mess, and realized that he would probably be the last person she would listen to right now. Besides. He did need to actually find real information on Batman and Nightwing. His father and his...brother.
“I’m going to find my father.” Damian declared.
Starfire considered him for a moment, and then nodded. “Garfield, you’re with Cyborg and Beetle. Keep communications open as much as you can.”
Cyborg opened two boom tubes right in the room. The other three took the one to the left. He and Starfire stood before the one on the right.
“Do you have a plan?” Damian asked. He hadn’t meant it to come out as inconsiderate or demeaning. He glanced over, at her, to she was staring at him with an eyebrow raised.
“Do you not trust me, Damian?”
“You’ve never let us down before.” Damian said. “I’d be a fool to think you’d start now.”
“Then let’s go.” She said, walking into the portal.
Damian, for possibly the first time in his life, followed.

Why Is DamiRae matter?
While some long time DC and Teen Titans fans have their favorite couples like Beast Boy x Raven, Nightwing x Starfire or Aquaman x Mera, having two birds in a feather is a unique take for a number of reasons:
- Both have a parent who treats their children as their prodigies or tools.
- both are serious character (even though Rachel Roth is sarcastic at times).
- While Damian has the strongest mind to think better judgement, Raven has the strongest will to conquered her own darkness.
- Both are acting largely detached and emotionally repressed as hinted in Justice League vs Teen Titans movie.
- Both are willing to risk their lives to safe their friends and loved ones from harm. For example: Damian takes a hit on Darksied’s Omega beams to save his father.
Without any spoils, this DCAU finale is totally the mixture of Avengers Infinity War and Endgame. Full of our beloved characters getting killed or dismembered, and leaving them broken emotionally because of one hero’s act on taking the fight to Darksied with no knowing of devastated consequences. Even though this end of the firework show, I hope Raven and Damian would remain together in the Rebirth timeline. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Like Water Off a Duck’s Back (Birds of a Feather Part 7)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
Hi everyone! Sorry, life has been...well, you know.
Raven stared longingly at the massive, inviting bed in her hotel room. It was like a siren call, begging her to fall into its depths. A call she desperately wanted to answer.
Except, of course, her damn demonic father.
Thanks, dad. Ruining everything.
She conjured up the portal and slipped through.
Trigon noted the difference, the exhaustion. He grinned at her, called with honeyed words. He was like a beast that senses its prey is weakened.
She ignored it all, as usual, and focused all her attention on making sure that her spells were holding. The more exhausted she felt the more she forced herself to focus. The last thing she wanted to do was unleash Trigon because she’d been too tired from spending time with the Titans.
"Free me, Daughter." Trigon called. "And together we will rule the planet of your birth."
Raven ignored him.
"All shall bow down before you. Cater to your every whim."
Did he not know her at all? Stupid question. Of course he didn't. Trigon only knew Trigon. He assumed everyone was like him.
She was ready to leave, when dear old dad decided to try something new.
“Free me, daughter, or you and your pathetic companions will not survive the threat that awaits you.”
Raven almost ignored him. Almost kept walking.
Except...he’d implied that he was not the only threat out there.
She hesitated.
He could be lying. Wouldn’t be the first hundredth time.
But she’d had a strange feeling this whole time. She’d assumed it was because of the memory loss. But what if there was more to it? What if more was going on?
What if Trigon wasn’t actually the problem? Or at least, not the only problem.
That was a terrifying upon terrifying prospect. Her mind wasn’t really sure what to make of the prospect. She woke up in cold sweats most mornings at the idea that Trigon would destroy the world. If there was in fact something worse out there...
But then it all came back to the fact that Trigon could still be lying.
She knew from experience that talking to him was never a good idea. He made it a point to twist words and thoughts into whatever his own desires were, so she wasn’t about to ask him directly...but she did need answers.
She left.
The bed in her hotel room no longer looked quite so inviting. If her visits to Trigon were good for anything, it was nightmare fuel.
She paced around the room for a few moments, but gave up when her mind started whirling through the possibilities. She was out the door of her room and into the elevator before she consciously realized what she was doing.
She stopped in front of Damian’s door and raised her hand to knock. Before her knuckles could make contact with the wood, she realized she was hearing voices. One she recognized, and one she didn’t. The unknown was female.
Did Damian Wayne have a woman in his room? Raven couldn’t stop herself. She slipped inside.
“Tell grandfather that I have made contact with the Titans, as he requested.” Damian was saying.
Raven’s blood turned to icicles. Damian’s grandfather. Ra’s Al Ghul. The Demon’s Head.
“He will want more than that, Damian.” The other said. Raven glanced at her. A younger woman. Close to her own age. She seemed antagonistic.
“He will be satisfied with that for now.” Damian said. He sounded sure of the fact.
“And the Batman?” The girl asked.
“Nothing. He is not here.” Damian said. “Nor has he been for some time.”
The girl said nothing.
“Go, Mara.” Damian ordered. He sounded tired. “Tell grandfather I will send a report when I have something worth reporting. There is no need for you to check in on me. Everything is going to plan.”
Plan? That didn’t sound good. Nothing involving Ra’s Al Ghul sounded good.
Raven quietly slipped away, carrying the shattered remnants of her heart in her hands.
She’d been a fool to trust him. She’d been a fool to believe that this Damian - raised in the brutal and cut-throat League of Assassin’s - could ever be like the one she’d known in the other world.
It took all of five minutes for her to pack. She stuffed everything she owned into a bag and disappeared, leaving nothing behind.
