Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
This week's blog is about how jury duty selection really doesn't jive with autism.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget I’m autistic. I have sort of built a life for myself where my weaknesses are minimized and my strengths are (mostly) highlighted. My job allows me plenty of decompression time, I can sort of pick my time slot, and my schedule is very predictable 90% of the time. The problem comes when I’m thrown a curve ball, and I’m repeatedly reminded that the world isn’t built for…
Fucking major companies excluding us deaf folks once again.
Tried to go see Barbie with my sister today. Unfortunately, Event Cinemas, which is a major movie brand here in Australia, only have FIVE Captiview machines and they were all being used. There was only one CC session for the whole day so we had to ask for a refund because there is no point in me going to the cinemas without a Captiview available ☹️ *sigh*
Just shocked that a major cinema brand in the middle of the third biggest city in Australia only has FIVE Captiviews available for use! Ridiculous.
I rarely go to the cinemas as it is because finding a suitable CC session that matches everyone else’s schedules can be a pain in the ass. What happens if a group of deaf people want to go see a movie together? Five devices? Just pathetic.
There's four signs that are particularly prone to have problems with "mindfulness," which is being present in the moment and not losing yourself to the obstacles ahead.
The being prone to a lack of this necessary characteristic, ability or virtue is attributable to the fact that these signs are of Cardinal nature. Cardinal energy is initiatory, start-up type energy. If one has an abundance of this energy that individual may suffer from starting many projects and never finishing. They keep starting new, innovative ideas but have a problem focusing in on the minute minor details.
Cancer - water energy that is the stereotypical mother but this one starts a lot, intriguingly and seems to get lost before she finds her way back to her new emotional ventures.
Libra - this airy cardinal energetic being is the embodiment of Venus. She may start many things, and bring in a lot of fresh air but never quite focus in to have an ending to her fairy tail.
Aries - this one is the worst. Being a fiery and naturally impulsive person this one has the biggest problem with mindfulness.
Capricorn - This one seems to start things and then just get bored and stop focusing on them.
Have you ever read a book and the descriptive writing turns you off. Especially for in this example, Stephen King writes about this bridge where Charlie's (Main Character) mom get's hit and killed on much early on in the book and every time Charlie mentions the bridge it is GODDAMN BRIDGE. Every time Stephen King brings it up it is always THAT GODDAMN BRIDGE. Ok King, we get the fucking point but don't have to put it into each sentence and at times, in a couple chapters, in the next couple of pages, 10x on each page. It is a real turn-off from reading and makes the reader lose connection with your story. It is poor story writing but sadly that never improved in this novel at all. 600 pages? Please, could have been done in 300. The extra 300 is a waste of paper in my opinion.
I found this novel, which many described to be one of the best of King yet, to be so slow that I literally put it down for a month and came back to it later and was still able to know what was happening. It is like a poorly written soap opera and its sad to say even those are written better. There is nothing keeping the reader hooked in this story until 400 pages in, when the story is finally reaching the climax, is when it starts to get really faced paced and good. As A King fan, I was truly disappointed in this book. Maybe my expectations were to high, I don't know, but truly I did find the writing to be atrocious and I had hoped it would get better but once I was 200 in, I came to the conclusion it never would.
The gladiator fighting in the novel truly intrigued me and that is when I found the story to really get going is when we finally meet the horrifying Night Soldiers, Living Dead Soldiers, and I loved that the twist is the brother of the royal family that was all presumed dead. That kind of surprised me. Leah, princess in this story, becoming Queen once she helps practically kill her brother to save her world, but not getting Charlie and Charlie not getting the girl, I truly loved.
The one other thing I truly did not like about this novel is that it felt completely plagiarized and lacked any originality. Story building also lacked. That truly made me sad for Stephen King. Hope his next book is better.
i don’t think i’m exaggerating when i say that at least once a day i go to turn on a clerks dvd that i do not have. idk why i’m so convinced i have it and idk why i always want to turn it on casually but it is Not tbere. phantom clerks dvd
I don’t know how to say this in a way that doesn’t sound like I’m advocating for casual cruelty or whatever but something that grates so much about this current social moment is how many people are incapable of saying they dislike something or someone without cooking up some higher morally correct reason for their dislike. Sometimes you just disliked a book. Sometimes you don’t “get” an actor or a musician. There’s nothing morally wrong with your girl’s fuckass boyfriend he’s literally just annoying and you’re annoyed that you have to pretend you like him when you know he’ll be history in six months. It’s fine. You don’t need to justify your dislike.
Sir Terry Pratchett: on writing Good Omens with Neil Gaiman
I love the whole interview but this little snippet most of all:
Terry: “You can usually bet, and I’m sure Neil Gaiman would say the same thing, that, uh, if I go into a bookstore to do a signing and someone presents me with three books, the chances are that one of them is going to be a very battered copy of Good Omens; and it will smell as if it’s been dropped in parsnip soup or something in and it’s gone fluffy and crinkly around the edges and they’ll admit that it’s the fourth copy they’ve bought”.
