It's very funny to see my dash filled with QSMP stuff yet not being into it myself. I think now I understand how all those people felt when they were exposed to DSMP content/discourse, because the stuff I see now sounds absolutely insane sometimes (I dropped off after Juanaflippa died and haven't been up to date ever since).

Anyway, the Halloween story! I really liked what you did with leading us to believe that Wilbur was the guilty one (the conversation in the bar really sold that idea) and then slowly letting us realise that maybe things aren't the way we think they are. Small towns hold so many secrets..

Burning down the corn somehow felt like the last punch they could pull and in a way it was very poetic. A nice sense of closure.

I also wonder what was Phil's reaction when the boys told him the story. Could you tell us more about it? (or redirect me to a post if this was already answered)

I don't blame you for dropping off after juanaflippa died I definitely considered dipping but then the wilbur soot tallulah week happened and I was revitalized and became extremely invested in that beanie wearing egg with hair. then I got highkey attached to everyone else and now I rotate q!phil in my mind constantly he's soooooo :)

aw thank you I'm so glad you enjoyed!! I had a lot of fun playing around with the misdirection in the foreshadowing. that conversation in the bar was especially fun to write because quackity holds the same assumption as the readers: that wilbur killed their father. wilbur knows this is what quackity thinks and doesn't do a whole lot to dissuade that notion, thus further cementing the idea to the readers as well. it was a lot of fun wordplay for me

ngl I've just always wanted to write a midwestern gothic type thing that ended with a cornfield burning down the mental image is just too cool. also like you pointed out I thought it gave the story a nice sense of closure :)

okay so this ask doesn't get too long (and so people can keep things vague if they want) i'll put the 'what happens when phil finds out' bit under the cut

so I wanted to leave things with phil vague so the readers could make their own interpretations, but I'd like to think that phil actually suspected that wilbur and tommy had something to do with their father's disappearance from the start. he never put too much stock into it though because he always thought they would've told him if they did actually have a hand in it. so instead he just kind of purposefully turned a blind eye to all the signs and imagined their father probably went and pissed the wrong person off at the wrong time while drunk and got a bullet between the eyes as a result. it wasn't exactly wrong.

anyway, finding out that his original gut feeling was right and they were the ones to kill him hurts phil a lot. not because his brothers murdered their father, but because they didn't tell him about it for ten years. when more details get revealed and he learns that tommy was the one to shoot him and not wilbur, he understands a little more why wilbur was so reluctant to tell him but still, the hurt is there. at the very least, he understands why wilbur left now, and that's been an open wound for him for years at this point. so that bit of closure, combined with knowing for sure that their father is never coming back, makes up for the pain of knowing how long his little brothers lied to him.

basically the conversation ends with phil reassuring tommy a lot while scolding wilbur for leaving for eight years instead of telling him the truth. hours later though, probably once the sun has risen and tommy has passed out in his room, phil sees wilbur sitting at the dining table staring blankly into his coffee mug. he thinks about what wilbur told him before about how he learned to run away from him, and that phil wasn't there when they needed him. he thinks about the guilt in wilbur's eyes when he told phil that tommy had to shoot their dad because he just couldn't pull the trigger himself.

and phil goes and hugs his younger brother, and tells him that it wasn't his fault. that he did the best he could. that it's okay that he couldn't pull the trigger. and wilbur hugs him back, feeling like a little kid again wrapped up in his big brother's arms.

it's not okay yet. it might not ever be fully okay. but they're dealing with it. as a family this time.

he’s really just… misunderstood?

actually that’s not a good word for it

it’s in the sense that his reputation makes him to be seen as a bad boy

it’s probably because of the leather jacket

and the motorcycle

and the piercings (mainly the ears)

and the tattoos

it also doesn’t help either that he’s keeps a small circle of friends

there’s nothing wrong with rolling with a smaller group

it just means a lot of people don’t actually know him and that causes more rumors about his personality

he hangs around Wonwoo and Minghao the most

Wonwoo is known to be handsome, but is also super cold to strangers

(more of a shy thing than a rude thing—a whole different story)

on the other hand, Minghao is one of those people who are brutally honest

(which makes him seem like an inconsiderate asshole)

and because people tend to lump people together

they just assume that Seungcheol is the same as those two are: cold and rude

in reality, he’s just a bit more reserved than others

makes people earn his trust, but some people found that unreasonable apparently

people are just so judgmental sometimes, especially in a small town where everyone wanted know everything about everyone

so, for college, Seungcheol picked out a city to study

because the larger populations lets him blend in with the others

tbh, let’s be real…. he def isn’t the only one who’s wearing all black on a college campus lmao

basic but it’s simple

it ensures that he’s going to have a stable job and by the of the day that’s all that matters to him

so, while his hometown called him a bad influence on other kids

the college sees him as another hottie in the leather jacket

he’s probably would’ve been the campus heartthrob—had it not been for the fact that he went to same school as Wonwoo, Mingyu or that new freshie who calls himself Vernon

there was one time in his theology class that he took off his leather jacket right?

the arm muscles flexing and the tattoo sleeve……….. it’s safe to say everyone took a double take during class that day

as for his academic marks……….

I mean, yeah, he doesn’t have the top grades to make it on a dean’s list or anything, but

he’s got academic scholarships and that’s enough tbh

he might not be a genius prodigy like Jihoon, but he isn’t stupid

so he’s not like a major try-hard like all those A+ obsessive people from high school

but he does make the effort

he’s just trying to live a nice, quiet life on campus to graduate—just like everyone else here

although

there is this habit of his that he’s been trying to break: being late to class

his attendance record isn’t great……….

like he’ll be there….. but he’ll be there like five to ten minutes late so it doesn’t really matter but

it’s like a personal pet peeve about himself

granted, it doesn’t matter when most professors don’t even take attendance

but it’s also because he works really late hours at a nearby convenience shop on campus

so………. the end result is tardiness

and he’s trying to work on it

which is also how he meets you

you see, Seungcheol met you in a………… unique situation

so, Seungcheol has found it easier to go around in his motorcycle, especially in a city

and especially on a college campus

and it’s like 20x faster than walking

it’s also good for when he’s late for his morning classes because he can easily make it to the other side in campus in like 2 minutes vs the original 10 minutes

so on a bright Tuesday morning

after he overslept his alarm (once again)

he quickly got dressed and hopped on his motorcycle to get to the other side of campus for class

….. only for him to quickly stop after hearing your scream

he didn’t necessarily hit you per say but it didn’t mean you managed to pass by untouched

you were rushing off to class too

on all days to be late………. it just had to be the day you had a midterm that’s 30% of your final grade

so you were rushing through

unable to see the motorcycle that was heading your direction

which is your fault but that’s also his fault for not seeing you until you screamed when he nearly hit you, running over a toe or two

he immediately stopped, running over to you

Seungcheol: “oh my God, are you alright?”

You: hair messed up, in pain, and survived the heart attack he gave you

You: “sure”

Seungcheol: “are you sure? I can take you to the hospital or—”

You: no, no, I am already as late as is and, and, and…….”

you trail off, remembering the motorcycle that laid a couple of feet away

You: “instead of the hospital, how about a ride instead? I cannot miss this midterm”

Seungcheol was taken aback from your commitment and strange request, but complied nevertheless

Seungcheol: “are you sure?”

You: “absolutely, hustle man, hustle—we gotta go”

Seungcheol scrambles, starting up the motorcycle and handing you a helmet

which you gladly grab and attach yourself behind him with your arms on his waist

he’s a bit flustered from your proximity

what if he was a murderer and you just hopped onto his bike?

I mean, he obviously isn’t but still

You: “sir, chop-chop, pls move, my ass needs to get to McGregor”

Seungcheol: “yes, right”

it takes less than a minute to get there, especially since there weren’t many others on the pathways

you hastily get off his motorcycle, tossing his helmet back at him and running off

You: “thank you!!!!”

Seungcheol: “you’re welcome?”

he watches as you run into the building, with nothing more on your mind than your midterm

how odd

he shakes his head, clearing his head of you before going to park his motorcycle and locking it—he’s got his own problems to worry about right now

(he re-told the story to a couple of his friends, in which Jihoon said: “watch yourself, you could get a lawsuit coming one of these days” and Seungcheol just rolled his eyes)

it’s about two weeks before he sees you again

so fun fact, his college requires community involvement/field assignment

and he chose to be in the big brother program

so he’s a big brother to this adorable 6 year old girl named Rose

he filled his requirement long ago, but he highkey loved it so he remained as a big brother to Rose 

who he has to take out trick-or-treating for the Halloween event the program set up 

can you imagine Seungcheol in his leather jacket and tattoos and piercings with a little group of 6 year olds

the chaos

Rose: “what did you dress as?”

Seungcheol: “uhhhhhh….. Danny from Grease”

Rose: “who’s that?”

Seungcheol: oh my God I’m old

they get a door that’s got some fake cobwebs and bright purple string lights

Seungcheol: “go ahead little ones, knock on the door”

they yell out trick or treat and the door creaks open to…….. you

you and your friends happened to be gathering together for Halloween and decided to meet up at your friend’s old house which was in the neighborhood that Seungcheol was in

you all originally planned to watch a bunch of bad supernatural movies and give out candy to little kids

all of y’all took turns at the door and it was your turn

you give the kids a sweet smile in your doctor’s costume

(or, at least, he’s assuming it’s a costume—maybe it is and maybe it isn’t)

after you pass out the candy, Joshua, the other chaperone, rounds up the kids and Seungcheol’s eyes met your widened ones

You: “oh! it’s motorcycle dude!”

Seungcheol: “motorcycle dude?”

You: “........ you were the one who hit me with his motorcycle right?”

Seungcheol: “has anyone else hit you with a motorcycle?”

You: “so it is you!”

you two chat a bit, especially since they have to start moving to the next house

Joshua: “bro, we have to get moving, stop flirting in front of the children!”

Seungcheol: “I’m not flirting!”

he turns back to you

Seungcheol: “I’ll see you around, please don’t sue me”

You: “sue you?”

Seungcheol: “I’m a broke college kid”

You: “so am I dude”

Joshua gives him another look and another warning before they start to move to the other house

You: “you know, if you have spare time, you’re welcome to join my friends and I—we’re going to be making fun of Twilight later together”

Seungcheol: “I might take you up on that offer”

You: “well, we’ll be here, so”

you give him a smile that makes him stutter for a second, before he waves you goodbye to join the others

Rose: “Joshua says you like the doctor”

Seungcheol: “well, Joshua’s not that smart”

he doesn’t know what compels him to go back to the house

but he does

and he has a really good time with you and your friends

hearing Seungkwan roasting Robert Pattinson was something Seungcheol didn’t know he needed

Soonyoung’s attempt of creating bgm on top of the soundtrack was also equally as hilarious

and then there were your side remarks with him throughout the movie

which he did enjoy

he left the house that night with a couple of new numbers in his phone

Jeonghan would be proud of him for making new friends on his own

after that night, you and Seungcheol hang out a bit more

you get to know each other

turns out the so called bad boy is actually just a major softie

surprise surprise, I know

he’s got a tattoo for his mom (a little heart on his heart)

he’s great at braiding (due to braiding Rose’s hair)

and he picked up sewing to patch up the holes that his friends created in their shirts

major heart eyes for Seungcheol

and he learns more about you and your little quirks

at some point, he even shares some things that happened back home

which was a bit hard for him to do but you were incredibly understanding

people just suck sometimes

one good thing about cities is that everyone minds their own business so

anyways

while he’s met your friends, you’ve also met his

you and Jeonghan are now the chaotic duo that Seungcheol wishes he can undo

Jeonghan: “are you fucking cheating? in front of my salad?”

You: steals another $50 bill from the monopoly pile

you two continue to hang out together as time goes and it’s great

sometimes you even hang out with him and Rose and it’s super cute

especially when you watch Seungcheol care for Rose like an actual sister

maybe that’s when the heart eyes started

he just……….. knows how to take care of people

he’s very attentive and understands that different people have different needs

it’s all……… very attractive

there are cute small ones and then there are bigger ones of flowers and patterns

You: “does it hurt more if you color them in?”

Seungcheol: “no, I was supposed to get them filled but Rose likes to color them with her markers”

he let you

it was so much fun

on some days with Rose, you both color together on a shirtless Seungcheol

during the night is when it’s the most beautiful with all of the city lights

it’s always a nice impromptu date

also, it’s been long overdue but he took you to the doctor’s once and brought up the whole running over your toes thing

and your toes are fine but

he still highkey feels kind of guilty but the kisses you give him compensate for the guilt

So the thing abt “Mr. Universe” is that both Steven and Greg were right and wrong for various reasons--but neither of them realized this, and many viewers didn’t realize this. Highkey one of my biggest berserk buttons is people not realizing that both sides have a point here, but are also at fault for numerous things.

I have a lot of experiences similar to Steven--growing up homeless, having a parent come from an abusive household and cut off her family from me, not knowing about and not connecting to extended family as a result, undiagnosed and therefore untreated mental illnesses at 16--as well as 3/4ths of a psychology/criminology double major completed. So this entire argument is very personal to me.

I’ve seen viewers range from complete lack of sympathy for Steven or Greg, to saying one side was completely right and that they lost respect for the other side, to people actually understanding the complexity of the situation, to people saying that Steven crashed the van on purpose. (To the ppl who believe the last one, did we even watch the same episode.)

Let’s go through the argument itself before getting to into analysis. Strap in folks this is gonna be a long fucking ride. (Also apologies for this being kind of messily structured, it’s hard to talk about this in any kind of linear fashion.)

Steven: I don’t need the song, I need--I need what you had!

Greg: What?

Steven: I wish I could have grown up in a house like that!

Greg: No you don’t!

So here we start out strong with the two biggest themes running through this argument: invalidation and miscommunication. Throughout the argument, both Steven and Greg invalidate each other’s feelings and experiences.

Steven: Maybe your parents weren’t so bad. Maybe they gave you curfews and chaperones and meatloaf, but for a reason!

Greg: Steven, you don’t know what they were like!

Steven: They can’t be worse than Mom’s family! I went halfway across the galaxy for them, and this was right here?!

Greg: Steven, I couldn’t do anything growing up. Anything I liked, or wore, or wanted was always wrong! Trust me, you’re better off than I was.

Here, too, comes the invalidation, and the line that precedes Steven turning pink. By saying ‘Trust me, you’re better off than I was,’ Greg singlehandedly invalidates Steven’s experiences and his grievances with his traumatic childhood by saying that it was ‘better’ than what Greg had. Greg, however, is most likely referring to more positive aspects of Steven’s life, like how he was able to wear, say, believe, and act how he wanted and be more free to explore himself than Greg was.

They’re not talking about the same things here. They’re talking about the worst parts of their own experiences while glorifying the good parts of the other’s.

Steven is talking about the normalcy and stability that Greg had, along with two parents who were there, school, doctor’s visits, extended family. Greg, meanwhile, is talking about Steven’s freedom to express himself, to like what he liked and like stuff how he wanted to like it.

Steven: I can’t believe I never realized... you’re just like Mom!

Greg: You grew up with actual freedom!

Steven: I grew up in a VAN! I never went to school! I’ve never been to the doctor until two days ago!

Greg: Steven! You’re a Gem! You’re not like other kids!

Steven: I could’ve done all that stuff! My problem isn’t that I’m a Gem, my problem is I’m a UNIVERSE!

So now that we have all the dialogue laid out here, let me make smth perfectly clear: I am not condoning Steven’s actions. Him blowing up at his dad which leads to him accidentally crashing the van is obviously not okay. I personally think that Steven was angry at his situation in general, but was directing it towards Greg because, at the time, he was the easiest person to blame.

Steven’s side:

Let me say that Steven has every right to be upset with how Greg raised him (though not a right to yell at his father). Steven grew up homeless. His early childhood up until he was at least 8 years old--judging by the extended intro--was spent living in the van with Greg. He was, by all definitions, homeless, as homelessness includes children who live in vehicles. As well, Steven had to watch his father still be homeless even after the beach house was built. Now there are a lot of adverse factors that follow homelessness that we haven’t seen in Steven (hunger, possessiveness of possessions, higher susceptibility to things like domestic violence and substance abuse), but that’s because we just don’t know what life was like for Steven before he moved in with the Gems. (The other thing we see is higher rates for mental illness but considering all of the trauma that Steven went through it’s impossible to say if homelessness could be related to that.)

What we do see is a combination of fallout from homelessness and a result from Greg’s permissive parenting style. Permissive parenting is like the “friend-parent” style, basically, which is kind of something that we see in Greg’s parenting. We rarely see Greg impose punishment on Steven--the only time I can really think of is “Fusion Cuisine” where he’s grounded from watching TV. Steven often doesn’t listen when the Gems tell him to do or not to do things, which is also a result of the permissive parenting style. Greg often ran away from Gem stuff because he didn’t understand it, leaving Steven with the Gems, who are, as we know, Less Than Qualified to deal with human emotions.

Steven mentions never going to school--now he still got an education via being homeschooled by Pearl, but school is much more than just the education. It’s also about being exposed to other (human) kids his age, and gaining (human) role models and authority figures that he could trust and confide in. It’s more than just a ‘traditional’ education, it’s also about other connections that Steven never got the opportunity to have. (And maybe the federal laws are different in the show’s US, but homeless kids can be enrolled in school.)

(Sidenote: people would bring up the first song in “Mr. Greg” when Greg says that he could put Steven through college with all of the money he just got, with Steven dismissing it and saying that he’s with the Gems all the time. Steven was 14, people, would you have wanted to go to school if asked at 14 when you neverhad to go before? Steven shouldn’t have been in charge of that decision because he’s a child and doesn’t know better. And also, Steven never knew life when everything was fixed: life was always Corrupted Gem monsters, before it evolved into fighting Homeworld threats. As far as he knew, he would be with the Gems forever, because there was no life he knew where there wasn’t something to do.)

Also as shown in this episode and “Gem Harvest,” Greg never told Steven about his family. Not who they were, not where they were, not if they were still alive, not even their names. Having contact and relationships with extended family is seen as ‘normal’ for human kids, and Steven never even had the opportunity to learn who they were for himself. He probably feels like he missed out on other human connections because of his dad’s decisions.

Steven lacked any kind of stability and structure growing up, and he’s starting to realize that, and he’s angry at his circumstances. He’s angry and upset because that lack of stability and structure is making his emotional problems worse by the time of “Mr. Universe,” and suddenly, his dad just gave him one of the big reasons why Steven lacked that in his childhood: it was because Greg wanted to give him the freedom that Greg himself didn’t have. In the moment, Steven sees Greg as a big source of his strife and pain, and here Greg is saying that Steven “had it better” and “isn’t like other kids” (when struggling with his human identity was kind of a big thing for him, esp seen in “Bismuth Casual”). In Steven’s mind, Greg just revealed that he was the source of a lot of Steven’s pain and his lack of skills in coping with said pain, and then invalidated Steven’s feelings about his childhood that he’s just realized was super fucked up, which is smth that takes a huge emotional toll to realize.

Greg’s side:

(this one is probably going to be shorter since i explained a lot in the previous section whoops)

As we saw in the flashback episodes, Greg had basically nothing. No home, no money, no contacts, nothing. Genuinely he did the best that he could given the circumstances. No money meant no insurance, which meant no doctor. His partner was literally an illegal alien, so Steven was born off-the-grid and doesn’t have an SSN, which could make a lot of things Difficult to get. Greg even built a house for Steven!

Greg is right in that Steven was half-Gem and that could have meant a lot of trouble in terms of doctors and schooling. Doctors and teachers not knowing what to do, Steven accidentally activating his powers at school, Steven falling behind on schoolwork or missing days on end because of Gem stuff, Steven being bullied by other students, etc. There’s a lot that could go wrong and hurt Steven.

Greg was also completely unequipped to handle Gem stuff, and since he’s only human, the first human instinct is to avoid. Not to say he didn’t care about Steven, since the poor man nearly had a heart attack during “Full Disclosure” when Steven told him about what happened, but Greg had no idea what to do when it came to Gem stuff.

It’s also implied that Greg’s family situation was really Not Good. His and Andy’s strained relationship, the implications that the Demayos completely fell apart after Greg left, the unopened letters, the fact that Greg had to climb in through his window so many time it became habit even over two decades later, the miserable photos, the forced haircut--it paints a really bad picture of the Demayos. Greg could have easily cut them out of his life and kept Steven away from them because they were toxic and he didn’t want them to hurt Steven.

Greg also genuinely believes that Steven had a better childhood than him, something that Greg wished he had but didn’t. Hence, his horror and confusion at Steven saying that he wishes he had what Greg had. Greg saw his childhood as stifling and suffocating and restraining, and he didn’t want Steven’s life to be like that. He loves his son unconditionally, and tries to be as understanding as he could.

Unfortunately, the understanding nature then leads to the end of the episode, where Greg says that he’s proud of Steven for standing up to him, then saying that he wished he could have told his dad the same. Greg made it about himself, and didn’t put any punishment or even reprimand onto Steven, which was probably the literal last thing he needed to hear at the moment.

However, Greg’s feelings were also invalidated by Steven, who only saw the more material things in Greg’s life and didn’t consider why Greg left, or the miserable photos, or the unopened letters. He also tells Greg that his family “can’t be worse than Mom’s family,” which while probably true considering it’s the Diamonds we’re talking about (even if they’re actively trying to be better), that’s still not something you should say. Steven also didn’t consider the situations that lead to him not going to places like the doctor--though, he wasn’t in the mental headspace to really think about that kind of stuff at all. Trauma fucks with your brain, man.

so i’ve seen a lot of people not consider a lot of things about this scene so lemme just give a rundown of the points that i’d like y’all to take away from this/lowkey address the common responses i’ve seen in the fandom

1) no one person is right here

2) both parties did stuff wrong

3) steven is still a CHILD no matter HOW mature he is and he’s also still reeling from a fucking ptsd-induced emotional breakdown from the previous ep so yeah he’s not gonna be thinking straight

4) greg loves steven and that is a Fact but he can still have fucked up in his parenting

5) you can still hurt the people you’re supposed to take care of and not meant to have hurt them, especially if the circumstances were out of your control, but that doesn’t erase the hurt or make the person’s feelings completely invalid

Although you didn’t want to at first, you knew that there wasn’t anything better you could do since most of your friends that you usually played with were all away on trips with their families for spring break.

“Oh, you made it!” your brother said as he pulled out the chair next to him that just so happened to also be next to Lucas’s seat. 

“Yeah,” you said as you sat down and looked towards Lucas’s seat to see he was too focused on the food he was eating. 

“Hey, this is my sister-” your brother started before Lucas interrupted.

“Y/N,” he said as he took the last bite of his pizza before turning to look at you, “I know. I’ve seen her around campus already. Why is she always so grumpy?”

Both him and your brother laughed as you almost punched Lucas’s arm but didn’t because you didn’t want to be too mean. also lucas was a lot cuter close up so you were kinda nervous 

“Don’t worry, she’s always like that but she’s also an actual softie,” your brother teased as your face turned red and you actually punched your brother’s arm. 

“I think she’s pretty cute when she’s grumpy,” Lucas muttered low enough that you could hear what he said but your brother couldn’t hear.

That’s when you actually felt it. Your heart wanting to jump right out of your chest. 

The two of you didn’t really talk much after that, you just exchanged a few words whenever one needed help in the game. 

However, the next week when you were all back at school, he started talking to you a lot more. 

Although you didn’t really see it at first, everyone else saw it.

He wouldn’t even look at or speak to any of the girls crowding around him. As soon as he saw you, he picked up his long legs and headed straight past the crowd of girls and to you. 

It was like he knew when and where you’d be almost every time. Which you didn’t entirely hate but you lowkey hated because the more he talked to you, the more you started to like him. 

Most of the things he would say was him teasing you but that was just because despite lowkey flirting with other girls before he didn’t really know how to express his feelings about you properly.

Eventually he had asked you out and that was also when you were sure that you had a big crush on him.

The two of you are still together until this day.

After that, your mom just let him be while secretly taking a video to keep for memories and also to show to his mom because she thought he was such a little gentleman.

And he was. Actually, he still is a real gentleman. 

Except, he wasn’t your gentleman anymore. 

It wasn’t until he started dating your cousin once you guys started your second year of high school that you realized just how much he really meant to you. 

He would still talk to you, which you liked because you didn’t want to lose him completely.

However, you didn’t get to see him as much since he was always with your cousin.

I mean, you were always free to hang out with them but once you had realized your true feelings for him it was just too difficult for you to put on a brave face in front of them. 

I guess the more distant you two ended up becoming, the more not only you started to realize but also he started to realize that you both mean a lot more to each other than you had thought. 

During your senior year, Xiaojun and your cousin broke up.

Although they didn’t say it was your fault, you still couldn’t help but feel guilty; especially with how your cousin started acting towards you after the breakup.

A few weeks later, Xiaojun had asked you to meet him at the soccer field after school.

He told you that he liked you, more than a friend, and you just told him you two should take things slow especially since you know that your cousin was still affected by it and although the two of you weren’t on good terms at that moment she was still family so. 

After a while, you and Xiaojun actually started dating.

You were mostly humble and quiet with your occasional semi-loud moments whenever you and your friends would hang out after school or during lunch.

I guess the whole “opposites attract” thing was the case for you and Hendery. 

At first of course you did not like him at all.

He made being the class president even harder for you. 

Whenever you would ask everyone for their homework, he would always either flirt with you or try to crack one of his jokes which you just didn’t react to.

Helped you carry stuff back to the classroom when your teacher sent you out to get some stuff from the main office.

“Here, I’ll help you,” he said as he had grabbed the stack of papers you were holding before you could decline his offer. 

“Aren’t you supposed to be in class?” you asked as you tried to take the stack back but he just moved it away from your reach.

Homeboy started cheering in the middle of the hallway because he finally got you to smile at him.

NEVER stops talking. 

Whether it’s during class, on the walk to school, on the walk home from school, whenever, wherever, he would literally never stop talking.

Hey y’all, author here (still feels weird calling myself that ngl) I was inspired by @meetthefundies​ post about pose making from a while back and decided I’d take the dive and finally get into cc making for the sims 4. It’s always something that I’d thought about, and with corona basically shutting everything down I’ve had ample time to try and learn how to do things. The whole of last month was basically a bunch of trial and error, YouTube watching, and Tumblr scrolling (coupled with my parents asking why I have pictures of random white people saved onto my google drive almost every other night 😂💀)

In the middle of august my dad caught corona, and so the government isolated my whole family and I in the house (he’s all better now thankfully) for 2 weeks, meaning I had 14 uninterrupted days of just coming up with different designs and trying to make things work. So this post is to basically just put out there what I’ve been working on, a few have made it into my game to be play tested, but so far only one has actually left CAS 😂 I know these are definitely major works in progress, but my anxiety means that I’d keep redoing things over and over again in an attempt at perfection while the rational side of me tells me that everyone has a starting point - this one is just mine. Anyway, I’m rambling (as usual), so let me just post the damn picture so I can go back to actually working on these pieces 😂😂

I’ll start with the casual clothes,

This is what I’m working on right now, ironically it’s the easiest thing I’ve done so far. This is essentially one of those ‘Snoga’ sports skirt things that fundies wear, this is the second round because the first had annoying clipping that meant I had to go in and change the design. If this one turns out fine enough then I will make different skirt/legging length combinations, but for now I just need this to be usable enough in game to warrant making different styles. 

Sleeveless frumper dress thing (I’ll sit down and come up with names for these later 😂) 

This was inspired by Anna Marie Maxwell and her #fabulous frumpers as well as the frumpers the Maxwells used to wear in the 2000s, I stalked the Maxwell blog right back to the beginning and just started saving pictures 💀 This is so far the only thing that’s made it into an actual game save, and you’ll be seeing a sim or two wearing this in different swatches in around a month since my queue is now below one month long. This dress is probably between the 8th and 10th attempt at making a basic frumper as this is what I started trying to make as I was trying to learn everything I could about making cc.

Basic short sleeved cheap looking dress (like I said, official names will come later 😂)

This your basic average amazon dress that fundies love ( a la bates sisters boutique style) I’m at that point where my instagram explore page thinks I’m a 14 year old Apostolic girl or a baptist mother of 8 looking to change my style, so I have a wealth of inspiration to choose from 😂 This is something I made and forgot about because I got excited about the exercise skirt almost working in game, meaning that this hasn't even made it into blender yet. 

Now we can move onto the formal stuff:

Ruffle mother of the bride/groom dress

This is my attempt on that blue ruffle dress that Kelly Jo Bates wore to Erin and Zach’s weddings. I initially tried to make it exactly like the dress she wore, but then I realised I was falling into the tendency of making things hard on myself unnecessarily 😂 This has made its way into CAS but there was some awkward clipping around the arms which I need to fix in blender, and will fix the textures before I can try and test it again.

Fishscale type dress 

Yup, you guessed it, this is my take on that dress. This made it into blender, but seeing the uv_0 layout made me go “eek” and distract myself with something else 💀 I’m probably going to go in and change the design, take some creative license and change the ‘fishscales’ around because there's only so much space in the uv map. 

Wedding Dress 1 aka the ‘Anna Marie’

I’ve highkey been calling this one the ‘Anna Marie’ in my folders because this wedding dress is directly inspired by hers (fyi: this link does take you directly to the Maxwell family blog, that web archive website is banned where I live and I’m not sure how to upload an archived link with my vpn on cause sometimes my laptop starts moving mad) This dress is one step away from being tested in game, and was so far the easiest dress to ‘design’ because there's literally nothing on it. I have been watching some more advanced texturing tutorials and want to try and make this look a bit better than it came out in my initial texturing attempts before I bring it I game to test.

Wedding Dress 2 aka the ‘Elissa’

This dress was inspired by Elissa Maxwell’s wedding dress, there's not many close up details of her dress so at some point I just got creative and probably the only thing I can really lend to her dress is the gathering on the side. The bolero came in as an idea after I had attempted doing these cute sleeves but was defeated after a while, so I changed things up so as not to frustrate myself 😂 This dress also has a bit more texturing needed before I can attempt to see how it looks in CAS, but I think I'll just see what happens with this one.

Wedding Dress 3 aka the EBP

In my head this dress was meant to resemble what Erin Bates Paine wore to her wedding, as in, a dress that is fine and would be considered modest (albeit a bit dated) but is chopped and skewed to make it EVEN MORE modest. The kind of changes that are obvious so the whole world knows you’re extra special and extra modest. This dress was an experiment as I played around and attempted to construct a corset back for this dress and the ruched tacked on sleeves, which turned out alright but it needs a bit of tweaking here and there, as well as an overhaul of the initial texture I'd tried out for this dress. In the notes app on my phone the initial look I was going for with this dress was “EBP overly frilly disaster” because that’s what I thought her wedding dress was like, but when I found pictures I decided I’d save the overly frilly disaster for when I was slightly better at the whole cc making thing.

Anyway, this is what I’ve got for now, I’ve got a swim dress thing next on my list which might be slightly easier to bring from start to finish? Not sure, at this point its hit and miss with how the weights transfer which affects the end result. I do have to say, seeing all these unfinished things laid out has sort of reinvigorated me to try and finish what I’ve already started before making something else, especially since a lot of them just require me to play around with the texture.

it is far and away THE BEST book in this quartet in terms of writing

it also strikes me as the most cinematic, in that it has the most moments that like... filled me with childlike glee at the idea of getting to see it adapted for tv? I guess we still don’t really know what exactly is getting adapted or how it will be done but god I want to see the whole coronation day battle sequence so badly! it may be because I specifically turned that part of my brain on at some point in this book like I hadn’t for the others but throughout almost all of it I had really clear mental images of everything and everyone. of course I’m tempering my expectations because even if it does get adapted everything could be so different from how I imagine it, but you know, all any of us really wants in life is the experience my mom had with the movie of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe where in the theater we got to the sweeping shot of the tents in aslan’s camp and she gasped and went “oh my god this is EXACTLY how I always pictured it” anyway that’s what I want from literally every scene starting with the ordeal of kings and ending with alanna v roger

it’s also the best alanna and jonathan book, even more so now that I’m like an adult who can relate to/fully delight in the relationship between people who used to be in love and therefore know each other really really well and are amicable enough to use that fact to just roast each other constantly, with affection

seriously there is not a single moment in this book where they’re in the same room and it doesn’t quickly become the funniest fucking thing i’ve ever read. “jon, do i really have to say ‘awesome artifact’? oh well, guess I’m too old to put a frog in his bed”

I reblogged someone’s john mulaney quotes as sotl characters post a while back and the only one I was like “huh?” about was gary as “it’s a grid system, motherfucker!” because I had largely forgotten the details of what happened in these books until this reread since it’d been like 11-12 years, so when I got to the part where gary is like “actually the practical work of running a kingdom is really interesting! grain prices and farmers and” my brain went “IT’S A GRID SYSTEM, MOTHERFUCKER” and I fully burst out laughing on an airplane and startled my seatmates

the thing is I’ve reread protector of the small at least once, some books several times, and I’ve reread trickster at least twice, and I haven’t reread all of immortals but I’ve read wild magic and emperor mage at least twice each, but I really hadn’t reread song of the lioness because I was always like “I love these books in spirit but they really weren’t as good in terms of the writing and also the problematic white savior stuff so I’d rather reread the better work she’s done later in her career & the development of this world,” and as a result I think I’d forgotten how major a character thom actually is? (had also highkey forgotten this about coram, gary, and alex because in the intervening decade my brain had simplified it down to “these books are about alanna, her cat, her three big love interests, thayet and buri in the last book, and of course roger, and also raoul is there I guess”) but the thing is I think that also happened because like alanna and george and raoul and jonathan and thayet and buri all get to keep being, like, obviously not major characters but important secondary characters, because some of them are important to kel, and sometimes to daine, and obviously to aly. but even though liam is right about it being meaningful to die for something important, alanna also has a point in that argument because a character can’t continue being important to the story if they’re dead! anyway I’m sad

I know this has been commented on before but they’re all so freakin’ young! which I did not understand when I was 12 but now jonathan is ascending the throne and he is literally my age! what the fuck!

another thing about being older is I’ve gotten over the thing I had as a kid where I never wanted to love the main characters best because I felt like I was supposed to and I didn’t want to do what I was supposed to do or something, and wow, I love alanna so deeply, she is so perfect, she is so flawed, I adore her so much. She is such a badass! She is such a good friend! She is such a good sister! She is such a good daughter (to myles, to be clear)! She is such a complicated and evolving partner who learns so much about how to be a better one over time! She and george are SO GOOD TOGETHER in the end

I know tammy kind of sidestepped saying whether she’s bisexual (or misinterpreted the question, was my impression?) and talked about her being genderqueer instead but also I get such a bi vibe from like every part with thayet. there is a compelling argument that it really is alanna, as a person attracted to men, negotiating femininity and male attraction and her feelings around it through her friendship with thayet, who is very conventionally feminine and beautiful! but also “she is so beautiful, I think I want to... be her” is such a classic confused baby sapphic thing at least among gays now that like.... also for a scene involving three people who are all ostensibly heterosexual, the part where alanna refuses to wear a dress to present the princess she rescued to the king, who is her ex-lover, who she was in a secret relationship with while presenting to everyone else as a guy, feels very, very queer to me

anyway alanna and jonathan are both bi

(my read of first adventure was also that jonathan totally had a crush on page alan well before he knew about alanna but anyway)

also I had fully forgotten about the part where she gets misgendered (basically?) in the tavern in maren and people think she’s a twink and liam’s boyfriend/a guy who is in love with him in a gay way, which then doesn’t really go further than confusion and the vague sense that being mistaken for gay = danger in this universe. but if alanna + gender gets to be more nuanced in the 21st century, as I would hope from that tammy tweet, then I would be interested to see if there’s more things like that adapted into a tv version.

I would think also SURELY alanna and jon were not THAT subtle like once ~her secret is revealed~ everyone back home seems to figure out they were lovers like by the time jonathan goes to visit the bloody hawk but like that part in maren suggests to me there is NO WAY the heterosexuals of the eastern lands are SO clueless that the court wouldn’t have noticed prince jonathan and squire alan were definitely fucking behind their backs

can katherine have little a trebond twins talking about queerness, as a treat? but anyway

since alanna is myles’ heir now and she is alanna of pirate’s swoop and olau then why isn’t thom of pirate’s swoop named thom of pirate’s swoop and olau

also george and alanna’s conversation at the end about settling down and getting married and having children after roaming together is much funnier now that I know, from having read all of the tortall wiki, that thom of pirate’s swoop is born while they are on a mission

that’s it I guess it’s a good book and I love it and I’m excited to start rereading immortals and see just what the fuck adult me thinks of THAT

Now you had two options; either you could put up a fight and play hard to get-considering he did just make your job a hundred times harder-or you could allow yourself to be taken by him and since the latter is what usually happened you decided to go with the former. You weren’t going to let him sweet talk you, you weren’t going to let him get all cocky and get what he always wanted. Nope.

You smirked against his finger resting on your lips and removed your arms from around his neck bringing them up to push his finger on to his own lips and backed away from his embrace. He looked at you, confused, good, you thought, things were going well so far.

“Well… if I’m going to get what I want, I’m going to have to think about this for a bit.” You skipped to your shared bedroom hearing Jin pacing close behind you. This is going to be fun.

You stopped right at the door and turned around to face him. “And where do you think you’re going?”

“You didn’t want me to follow you?” he looked like a lost puppy and you could feel yourself slowly gaining control of the situation.

“Did I say I wanted you to follow me?”

“No…?”

“Then why are you here?” Jin scratched his head and turned on his heel, going back to the bathroom. When he was no longer in sight you strolled to your top drawer and pulled out his favourite black lingerie; he had bought it for you last Valentines and that was the only time you had worn it. You grinned at yourself, what an interesting turn of events, you thought as you stripped yourself of your jeans and loose top. Walking over to the full body mirror, you admired the way the lace hugged your body, exposing just the right amount to skin to make Jin go crazy but still remain completely unsatisfied. When you were happy with the way you looked, you grabbed the $3000 hair kit you had bought especially for him from the ‘Style Drawer’ as you liked to call it and headed for the bathroom. You peeked in and rolled your eyes, mentally face palming as you saw Jin admiring himself in the mirror of course… you thought and cleared your throat causing him to jump, he spun round and stared at you confusingly.

“J-jagi, I didn’t hear you… why are you hiding?” You smirked and disappeared heading to the kitchen, a minute later you appeared walking in casually holding a stool. You went up to the sink and placed the stool in front of the mirror bending down to lower it to the perfect height all the while ignoring Jin’s jaw dropped figure. Jin cleared his throat “Jagi… what are you-”

“Sit down.” You said ignoring him again. Jin stood still, his eyes frozen on your figure, it took him a second to realise what you had said and sat down on the stool looking at you through the mirror. “Since you ruined your hair, I want you to stay still and let me fix it, no whining no protesting and no complaining on how much time it takes.” You gave him a devilish smile “and then you’ll be forgiven.” You replaced your evil grin with an ironically angelic smile and Jin’s entire body slumped down as he sighed.

“But…” he was about to protest.

“No buts.” You said firmly.

“Not even yours?” he smirked and smacked it playfully, this cocky little…

“Especially not mine.” You said sternly and began opening the bag, spreading out your tools. “Hm… I could just give you above the eyebrow bangs, they were a definite success during YNWA… or we could experiment with curly bangs…” You began thinking about what you could out loud and only looked at Jin through the mirror for a second catching him staring at your butt. You smiled to yourself and placed your elbows on the sink shelf sticking your butt just enough to hear Jin sigh pursing his lips together and looking the other way, this was killing him. You snapped your fingers and muttered a low ‘ah ha’ before opening the sink and grabbing a hair brush. You thoroughly wet your hands along with the brush and ran it through Jin’s hair, soaking it. After you were done untangling it and making sure it was smooth you grabbed a comb and combed it straight down, looking at Jin’s face you noticed how red his cheeks had gotten, his hands were clenched into tight firsts and he couldn’t keep his eyes off your very proximate cleavage. You smirked as an idea popped into your head, “Ah let me just get the back.” You muttered getting closer to Jin so his face was literally centimetres away from your chest, you reached your arms forward and combed through the back of Jin’s hair feeling his hot breath on your exposed chest.

“Ja-jagi…” Jin choked out, his self-control dropping quickly.

“Yes?” You replied backing up and grabbing the hair gel, coating your fingers with it lightly.

“Don’t you think you’re being too… cruel?” Jin was giving you his puppy dog eyes accompanied with an adorable pout and you almost felt yourself give in before shaking your head lightly and resuming your work.

“How am I being cruel?” You asked innocently, applying the hair gel into his damp hair and plugging in the blow dryer.

“Ya! I know I made your job harder but you’re… you’re making my life harder right now…” he said the last part quietly, almost a mumble as he averted his eyes and looked down at the very obvious bulge growing in his pants.

“Good.” You said indifferently and Jin looked back up at you almost offended “Now you’ll think twice before chopping your bangs off.” You gave him an almost evil grin and turned on the blow-dryer, combing his hair in your desired style as it dried and the gel made sure it would stay that way. You went for a Fire meets BS&T meets Danger kind of look so one edge of the side parting you gave him was brushed and stuck to his head while the other, longer side, was puffy and in the air, revealing his beautiful forehead that ARMY so often requested. You had pretty much forgotten about what you were wearing and what your original intention to wear it even was, you were way too focused on your work and Jin knew this. The man had seen it a million times before; you were passionate and dedicated to your work and once you got into it, nothing could distract you, not even Jin’s hands that had moved and placed themselves on your waist pulling you closer with every second. You were just finishing up with a little bit of natural hairspray when you felt something hard press against your stomach. You dropped the spray bottle when you realised Jin had closed the space between you two and pressed your body flush against his, his strong arms were wrapped around your waist and his face was semi buried in your chest as he looked up at you through dark hooded eyes.

“You’re done.” He stated as a matter of fact, his voice had changed from the early whiny and pouty attitude to a now more authoritative and assertive tone making a chill run down your spine.

“I’m not.” You retorted trying to take control back but knowing fully well it wasn’t going to happen.

“You’re talking to me which means you aren’t focused and you never lose focus unless you’re done.” He held you tighter “so now it’s my turn.” He smirked, oh boy. Jin moved his head away and peaked into the mirror raising his eyebrows, clearly impressed by what you had done “hey handsome.” He said winking to himself and you rolled your eyes “why don’t you show this pretty lady what she really should have asked for huh?” he was wiggling his eyebrows at himself and you cringed, why was he like this? Why did you actually love him for being like this? Some questions were better off without answers. Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt Jin’s hand move from your waist down to your thighs and grip at them tightly “What are you thinking about hm?” he muttered softly before lifting you and standing up at the same time. You yelped at the sudden action and quickly wrapped your arms around his neck.

“I’m just thinking about…” you searched your thoughts quickly for some sort of rebuttal but the grin that appeared on his face was a clear indicator that he knew. He chuckled deeply and gave you a sultry look before walking towards his bedroom.

“ahh jagi...” he sighed, “when will you learn?”

“What exactly are you trying to teach me?” You returned his look challengingly with a subtle lip bite, why am I trying to make this worse for myself?

He laughed, visibly amused and you felt him quite literally throw you backwards on to the bed. It was unexpected and resulted in a small scream but before you knew it, he was slowly crawling over your half naked figure. His hand slowly travelled up your inner thigh and you could feel the chills all over your body. “Jin-” but you were cut off by his lips finding their way to yours. You softly moaned into the kiss when you felt his hand travelling up and flicking at your nipple. He pulled away only to open his mouth which caused you to do the same. His tongue met yours as he began overlapping around it and softly pulling back, biting your lip softly in the process. All the while, his fingers had been gently playing with your now hardened nipples. “Ah~ Jin… I want you.” You couldn’t help but moan out. He chuckled knowing your chest was your weak spot, but he wasn’t going to give it to you so easily; you had toyed with him and now it was his turn.

“You’re going to have to be a bit more specific baby.” His voice was laced with so much seduction, it was almost like a drug. You knew what he was doing and you knew what he wanted to hear. Moving your hands to his face, you forgot about your pride and looked at him desperately.

“Touch me... please~” You replied with the straightest face you could possibly muster up given the circumstances. Jin didn’t need telling twice, he reached behind you to undo the hook holding your entire lingerie piece together before moving his hand under the soft material. With each second, he got closer and closer to where you wanted him but stopped just before resulting in a frustrated whine from you.

“Touch you where princess?” he smirked, clearly enjoying himself. You placed a hand over his and dragged it until it was right over your pussy; his fingers got wet immediately.

* you showed renjun, halting his actions

* he looked back at you and made a gagging action before laughing

* “cringe”

* “hey! i bought us matching shirts once!” you poured, crossing your arms over your chest

* “and i appreciate it very much” he nodded, giving you a small shove

* you didn’t do anything back

* “alright, let’s go out” he abruptly spoke

* “i thought you said that we don’t have money huh” you teased

* “i feel like treating you today” he shrugged before grabbing your hand to take you downstairs

* he yelled out to his mum that you were going out, causing her to send a wave to the both of you

* “go get your bike”

* you both began to bike your way through the streets

* laughing whilst racing up and down steep roads

* everything felt at ease

* like nothing else really mattered

* the wind was kind of annoying tho

* renjun admired you, as he trailed behind you

* the way you laughed whenever he tried to catch up to you

* the way you looked back at him to give him a wide smile

* it made his heart full

* but

* he knew you were just friends, just neighbours

* he would always care for you no matter what

* so he continued to pedal his way up to you

I’ll Get To The Bottom Of This Notes

NOTE: Gonna mention some things I saw from @dumbthinmint​, @rogue-of-broken-time​, @lilakennedy​ and a few other people so if I forget to credit them for the discovery, I’M SORRY, but I’m late to the party here so anything in these notes is stuff we already been knew courtesy of other JSE Theorists.

SO ANYWAY, THE BULLSHIT(tm):

I stopped pegging this as suspicious not too long ago, but during Mayhem A LOT of the most fire-inducing videos only had a title written by Sean or a game name, not both like we usually see (ie: Dark Silence, Try To Fall Asleep, etc...). Today’s title is “I’ll Get To The Bottom Of This...” which obviously has no game name in it, not even an “x games, 1 video” thing. Not to mention that title in itself is highkey giving me “He’s hinting/talking to us through the titles again, just like October 2016″ vibes.

0:09 - “Look at it just sitting there, staring!” As Lila pointed out in this post, that has the same energy as what Anti said in PAX 2017. And “it” was referring to us, just as Anti was...

10:09 - Lights suddenly turn off and everything goes black. This reminds me of the door opening on its own behind him during Stories Untold...

10:14 - Voice says “Thank you for your contribution to this video”  forwards, but if you reverse the audio it sounds like it says “Thank you for contributing to his [???]” and none of us can tell if it says says “death" or something else. (Some of us are convinced it says one thing, and others are convinced it says another, we honestly need Sean to confirm what it is himself). You can listen to the audio here thanks to Rogue, and as Emily brought up in the post, if it DOES say death, it could possibly be a reference to the April Charity Stream Ego Poll, in which Henrik (1st place) or Marvin (last place) could very well be in danger if the poll results are used for something in the future. ALSO, this all hugely reminds me of “I will return when you least expect it.” from Eggs For Bart.

I for the life of me cannot hear any of the ideas we’ve thought of so far. I can only kind of hear “video” when the audio plays normally, and I vaguely hear “death” when the audio is reversed, but still don’t think that’s what it is. Someone PLEASE clean up the audio to make it clearer, post it and tag me?

10:19 - Facecam glitch. Frame by frame shots by @the-jackiebear​ here! I don’t actually think this glitch is an Anti Glitch because it looks different, but I’m noting it just in case, especially since it happened right after the voice.

10:21 - “Oh thank god you’re here, I thought I was lost, I thought I was all alone! I was in that darkness for 14 years!” Okay, first of all, the KJSE/Exiles siren is playing in the background during this. Big Oh Shit(tm) right there. Secondly, I get slapped with two different energies at the same time here-- I get Panicked Chase energy, like the “darkness” is a reference to Dark Silence, but I also get Jack Finding Us energy, like after he was “EXPLORING AN ABANDONED HOSPITAL” like the video title says in Exiles, while the Exiles siren is playing in the background, he finally found us, like if we were some kind of Y/N in this whole story... I can’t decide which energy I get out of that moment more, and even while I’m getting those two energies I still feel like the entire thing could just be an innocent goofy bit like Sean does with each intro to a new game in these kinds of videos... REALLY wish he’d start giving us little nods somehow so we know when we’re right or if we’re over-analyzing something. :u

11:58 - “Hello? It’s me, Jacksepticeye, the guy who doesn’t do too well with silence! It reminds me of my relationship with my dad!” Alright there’s a lot to unpack here and we can’t afford to throw away the whole suitcase so here goes nothing-- So, first off, “Hello? It’s me Jacksepticeye!” is EXACTLY something he said in Exiles (*gestures to the siren playing earlier*). Secondly, I’m trying not to imagine Chase calling himself Jack to keep his facade up while also mentioning he doesn’t do well with silence bc Dark Silence. But I’m also fully aware he could be making a “I’m loud and never shut up” joke. Thirdly, “dad” jokes are suspicious bc Mayhem was fucking full of them, but once again we should keep in mind Sean also at some point said smth about him not being close with his dad. Bottom line here is, this line was Big Suspicious(tm) to me but could very well be innocent to a degree.

We all know the gauges aren’t Anti-only anymore but he has the big ones in that he wore during KJSE and I am Big Nervous(tm). Normally he wears smaller ones I’m pretty sure,,, I’m paranoid,,,

23:50 - “Be extra vigilant, for there are always secrets and clues lying around.” I looked really hard at that magnifying glass reflection and for a split second I thought it was the table from Say Goodbye with the bookshelf behind it but I’m positive it isn’t (so please don’t say it was, haha) and I’m just paranoid because the very next second it looked like it was just Sean’s computer in front of him or something, I dunno but *squints*

You can really hear the kill bill sirens going off behind his eyes in pretty much any given scene he's been running on pure self-preservation as long as he can remember himself. he doesn't know any lasting way of interacting with the world other than kissing the ass of his current boss because he has never had the chance to learn one. I don't know if he even comprehends how the others despise him for it.

Aya and Ginchiyo work alongside Koshosho, Naotora, Kai, and Kunoichi at a parfumerie owned by Okuni (because who else)

The only problem? Aya and Ginchiyo hate each other

This is because even though Aya has worked there a year longer, Ginchiyo is extremely popular with their younger female clients (for obvious reasons) and consistently out-sells her

Ginchiyo and Naotora eat lunch together a lot. One day, Ginchiyo reveals to Naotora that she’s been exchanging letters with an anonymous pen pal for a couple of months now, and how even though she thought the idea was dumb at first, the highlight of her week has started becoming hearing back from the other person

“hold on, you don’t know who they are?” “nah I just saw an ad in the paper and figured I’d give it a try” “that is so dangerous on so many levels” “I’m pretty sure they’re not a serial killer”

You can see where this is going

Okuni, Kai, and Kunoichi all high-key ship Aya and Ginchiyo. They have an after-hours betting pool running out of Okuni’s office that updates on the daily based on Aya and Ginchiyo's interactions

Turns out, Aya is Ginchiyo's anonymous pen pal, and their letters are quickly beginning to get more and more personal. Finally, they decide that they should set up a time and place to meet in person, because isn't it wonderful that they have so much in common?

When the date comes, Ginchiyo and Naotora go out to lunch again

"hey remember my pen pal who you think is a serial killer" "I've tried not to" "I'm meeting them tonight" "you're going to die" "not if you come with me" "what"

After several more hours of Ginchiyo's asking, Naotora agrees to come along as her failsafe and bail her out if something goes horribly wrong

Meanwhile, Aya and Koshosho are having the same conversation, although Koshosho is more upset that she just didn't think this up for herself

"you don't know their name?" "no" "you don't know what they look like?" "no" "you don't know their gender?" "that's not a problem" "fair enough"

Okuni can tell that Aya is on edge about something and tries to get what out of her, but subtlety is not her strong suit bless her heart. Aya is able to escape further interrogation and head for the meeting place ahead of Ginchiyo

Not one to be deterred, Okuni starts interrogating Ginchiyo before she can get out the door. One thing leads to another and Okuni accidentally lets the existence of the betting pool slip, although she doesn't say what exactly it's on. Ginchiyo winds up getting the impression that she was only hired for Okuni's entertainment and storms out before Okuni can smooth things over

The plan is for them to meet up at a local cafe, where Aya will be wearing a blue rose so that Ginchiyo can tell it's her. Aya chose the cafe because it's owned by Nene and Aya has worked out the exact same arrangement with her that Ginchiyo worked out with Naotora

Aya being Aya gets there early and, while waiting around for her "dear friend", starts to drink since she's feeling nervous

When Ginchiyo and Naotora walk in, Naotora sees Aya wearing the blue rose first and goes through about five different mental variations of "abort abort abort" in the span of two seconds. However, she can't communicate this to Ginchiyo in time, and Ginchiyo's evening immediately goes from unpleasant to "you have to be kidding me"

Naotora encourages Ginchiyo to give it a chance anyway since "you got along fine with her when it was letters, so maybe just don't look at her face!"

Aya, however, is now several drinks in and does not take kindly to Ginchiyo seemingly stalking her beyond work to a restaurant and barging in on her table

Ginchiyo goes on the defensive immediately, things escalate, and when Aya lets slip that she's supposed to be on a blind date, Ginchiyo tangents off on one of Naotora's horror stories about what an easy way to get murdered that is. By this point, both Naotora and Nene are trying to step in and cool them down

Ginchiyo leaves after realizing that Aya has been drinking, and Naotora doesn't feel comfortable with being the one to tell Aya about the miscommunication. As a result however, Aya winds up staying at the cafe until closing, thinking that her "dear friend" abandoned their date after walking in and seeing her with Ginchiyo

The next morning, Ginchiyo is obviously feeling pretty shitty about what happened with Aya and lowkey goes into panic mode when Koshosho informs her that Aya called in sick (which never happens)

Ginchiyo, internally: “fuck what if I broke Aya”

She finds out from Koshosho where Aya lives and leaves after work to go and apologize to Aya

Kenshin lets Ginchiyo in, not realizing that this is the unnamed coworker Aya is always ranting about. When Ginchiyo walks into her room, Aya immediately jumps to the conclusion that Ginchiyo came here to see if she was really sick so that she could report Aya for lying. Aya immediately starts trying to get ready for work so Ginchiyo can’t have the opportunity

“where’s my shoe?” “why would I know where your shoe is” “you’re hiding it from me, aren’t you?” “no” “you can’t lie to me!” “I’m not”

Since Aya is actually sick, she tires out fairly quickly and Ginchiyo is able to get her back into her bed. Before Ginchiyo leaves, she gives Aya what she originally came by to do - ice cream, saying that she remembered Aya mentioning her favorite flavor at work (although it actually came up in their letters)

This throws Aya off long enough for Ginchiyo to apologize for the night before, although she’s still too nervous to admit that she’s Aya’s “dear friend”. Instead, she makes up a story about meeting a man outside the cafe (who accidentally winds up bearing a large resemblance to Kenshin), who told Ginchiyo that he had planned to meet Aya but was going to have to stand her up because of a work conflict. Ginchiyo makes sure to emphasize that he seemed “really sorry” and that “he” said he would write her a formal apology.

She also notices that she and Aya are reading the same book (probably some sort of classic lit that Aya never would have expected Ginchiyo to be familiar with), and they wind up having a really engaging conversation about it

After Ginchiyo leaves, Aya is highkey in shock that she enjoyed their conversation. She tries to write a letter about it to “dear friend”, but winds up accidentally addressing it to Ginchiyo instead

Aya, internally: “oh no”

Ginchiyo immediately tells Naotora about everything that happened, and halfway through comes to her realization that she has feelings for Aya. 

“why are you smirking Naotora” “no reason >;)”

at the same time, Koshosho is telling Aya about the amazing woman she randomly met the other night (not saying she’s No but she’s definitely No). After seeing what random chance was able to do for Koshosho, Aya decides to give her friendship with Ginchiyo another chance

lucky for them both, it’s the holiday season, so they wind up working together pretty much every day to get as many sales as possible. Turns out Aya and Ginchiyo are unstoppable when they combine their powers of persuasion and making women question their sexuality

finally, Christmas Eve arrives and Aya decides to invite Ginchiyo to celebrate with her and Kenshin. The shop empties out as No arrives to take Koshosho on their first official date, Okuni treats Kunoichi and Kai to dinner, and Naotora leaves with her family. 

Aya and Ginchiyo are left to close up, and as they’re leaving, Aya accidentally drops the package that she had intended to mail her “dear friend” for Christmas. Ginchiyo feels bad that she didn’t think to do the same thing, and before she can think, she blurts out that anyone would probably fall in love with Aya for that if they hadn’t already before

cue their hands brushing as they both reach to pick it up and snow starting to fall

"you know Ginchiyo, I really wish that I could have gotten to know this side of you sooner”

Ginchiyo takes out the very first letter that Aya wrote to her and starts reading

Aya realizes there’s only one way that Ginchiyo could have that letter
