So. I’ve been thinking about Tim Drake a lot. Like. So much. So, here’s another rant/analysis/commentary on him.
Here’s the thing. Tim Drake is, and I mean this in the fondest way possible, an asshole. He’s cocky and arrogant and smug. He always has to know everything and he always has to be right. He has NO respect for dumb things like boundaries or privacy. He views emotions as just another variable, something that is to be accounted for and addressed when needed in both himself and others. But protecting people’s feelings isn’t a priority. Yes, Batman’s emotional spiral triggered the events that led him to become Robin. But he didn’t help Bruce which his grief because he saw someone he cared about hurting and wanted to help. He did it because Bruce’s grief threatened to destroy Tim’s understanding of reality. Batman being a hero was one of the only good stable things in his life. He wanted to protect that, and he wanted to protect Gotham’s citizens from both Batman and anyone who would run wild if he died. It was a calculated decision based on numbers, not Bruce’s feelings. Not to say that he doesn’t care, because he does. So much. But he tries not to let it control his decision making. An example being when he didn’t tell Tam that Lucius’s death was fake. A more extreme example from when he really goes off the rails is the entire Titan of Tomorrow storyline.
Anyway— point is Tim understands and cares about the emotional wellbeing of the people around him but he tries very very hard to hide it and not let himself think to hard about why. Because then he’d have to confront that if other people’s feelings are important then his are as well. And that everything his parents taught him was wrong, therefore he is wrong. And as I said, he always has to be right. Because so much of his self worth is tied to his intelligence. Oh. That’s why I relate to him… okay im gonna stop before I have anymore revelations.
The way twst intentionally made it a big slap to the face that Idia's and Ortho's mom and dad would go through heaven and hell to save their children, yet Malleus' only living blood relative is completely silent throughout the disaster...
The way the Shrouds would exhaust everything they have just to retrieve their robot son who isn't even alive, yet the remaining Draconia can't even stand up from her throne to check if her grandson is still alive.
I have a simple fascination and joy in the thought that, for the Ghost King AU, most of the time Danny is literally so normal compared to other ghosts.
Like, he’s a kid. He looks like a kid. Going by canon appearances, he is the most human looking ghost we see (aside from Ellie). Even Plasmius is more inhuman, which is where all the vampire jokes come from. Every single one of this enemies is off even in a human disguise. They’re not human, and people don’t expect them to be.
So aside from the implications of Danny looking like a child ghost, I wonder what other characters would think if they summon the Ghost King, expecting this huge monstrosity worse than anything they’ve ever seen, and getting a totally normal human-looking kid.
I’d be terrified. Because if horror movies have taught us anything, it’s that the most innocent and normal looking people are the worst monsters you’ve ever seen.
sometimes i think about luffys complex of not taking no for an answer in saving his friends/not letting himself be too "weak" to lose anyone and i think abt the way that we see the first time luffy really breaks down because of this when he loses his entire crew in sabaody over being Too Weak and then almost immediately ace dying (literally in his arms) in a way that luffy truly could not have done anything about. to how after marineford it immediately goes into backstory about when he believed sabo to have died in his childhood and how much that affected him and how you realize he carries that trauma throughout the rest of his life and

the sound of drums is just so funny because martha's in love with the doctor, jack's in love with the doctor, and the doctor has completely ignored them both in favour of pining over his boyfriend who hates him
If some other magicless person got stuck in Twisted Wonderland and tried to take my place, I'd simply let them. Yeah, bitch, now you take care of these motherfuckers and deal with Crowley's bullshit, see if I fuckin care. Have fun babysitting a bunch of sunovabitches who barely even remember you exist half the time.
I love the angst of "they pushed the Prefect away and replaced them only to miss them when they finally leave", but, also, if I were Yuu, I'd absolutely just let it happen. Call me a pushover, but I ain't shedding a tear for friends who left for the newest shiny thing. And it would relieve me from all the trouble. Guess who's not fighting Overblots anymore? This bastard, that's who.
OH OK YEAH THEY'RE DOUBLING DOWN? YEAH?? THAT'S WHAT WE WANT??? MIKE "IDENTITIES DON'T MATTER" D. TO DOUBLE DOWN REALLY-
"Oh no see! This was Norman the whole time! He's always been white!" GREAT. WE HAVE AT MOST 2 BLACK CHARACTERS THEN COOL AWESOME RAD.
I'm so genuinely upset and exhausted over this. After the whole "Books ain't canon" tweet I assumed they'd just,, never actually address what people were most upset over (Norman having his melanin snatched) and that'd be that.
But nope sure yeah, double down, erase one of 3 black characters.
I can't believe fucking MIKE is the one handling this publically too, who let this happen????
I just. aughhh I have so many thoughts on this, but they're best saved for later or just unsaid. I'm tired and I wanna go hide in a hole for a bit.
