It seems to be so easy to people to get sober
If you're an alcoholic you just need to go to rehab and poof, your problems go away
You then go to some AA meetings and you're okay
But they don't know how damn hard it really is
You don't need to just go to rehab because more often then not, you have issues that made you alcoholic
You have illusions that make you hate going to sleep so you drink so much you don't see those illusions, just so you can sleep
You take so many pills but they don't work, and the illusions, the fear, the terror, they come back
And you don't have a car nor a driver's license because of those issues
You can't go to therapy because it's too far and too pricey
You can't go to rehab because you're a student and can't loose these years
And god knows you tried to get better. You always tried
You've seen a psychiatrist but the meds don't work enough
You've lost hope
And ehat is left when you love and don't want to leave, but staying gets worse every year
You spent days waiting for your mind to get better, and you did your best, but nothing really helps and the darkness comes more and more often
Where is hope, then ?
This post doesn't mean much, but I hope someone somewhere can tell me there is still hope. That I, that every person like me will heal

The other day I told a friend of mine that I never forget to take my ADHD meds because I fucking love my ADHD meds. I'm in my late 30s, I didn't finally get a diagnosis and meds until less than two years ago, and they have changed my entire life.
And he raised his eyebrow at me. We'd been discussing addictive medications a few minutes before, like the Tramadol I finally got from the pain specialist to take once a week or so to give me a break from my chronic pain, so I reassured him that methylpenidate (Ritalin/Concerta) is not addictive (at least not in people with ADHD).
His response? To raise his eyebrow even harder and say "Well it sure SOUNDS like it's addictive!"
And I had to explain to this man - who works in a healthcare related job by the way - that just because medication makes you feel good and helps you, just because you look forward to taking it, that doesn't make it addictive or dangerous. And he wasn't convinced.
The simple fact that I was excited to take a daily pill that has literally changed my life, after decades of fighting to get that medication, made him think I shouldn't be taking it so often. That it must inherently be dangerous.
I'm not even in America, but I'm pretty sure this attitude began there and then spread over here to Europe. This Puritan idea of "if something feels good, you must beware of it. Pleasure is dangerous, it is sinful, it is addiction, it is evil."
I know too many people who subconsciously believe that pleasure = addictive = dangerous = bad. Joy is a slippery slope to hell.
So here is your reminder for today that you don't need to be afraid of feeling good. If something improves your life, use it. Even if it is addictive - learn what that addiction means, whether the addiction is inherently dangerous or not, and whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and risks.
My ADHD meds are, in fact, not addictive. But I will take them every day because they make my life orders of magnitude easier. I will enjoy them every time I take them.
My tramadol is addictive. I will still take it. I will keep it on a schedule to avoid becoming addicted, primarily because addiction in this case would mean reduced effectiveness. But I am not afraid of my painkillers. They are life changing.
Take your meds, everyone. Don't let anyone scare you away from doing something that improves your life.

some nurses I work with and get patients from give me the impression that they think a patient is opioid addicted and they need to be weaned off, and like even if that is the case 1) I'm not a addiction specialist, I'm their night nurse and their doctors have prescribed pain medication to be available to them, 2) day nurses I think can be more flippant about pain at times because during the day you have things that can distract you while at night, all you get to do is lie in bed and think about how much pain you're in, 3) I don't think a hospital stay for like heart failure is the best time to detox someone, 4) pain is incredibly subjective and I trust patients who've been living in their body for their whole lives more than I trust myself who has been talking to them about their body for five minutes, and 5) some nurses will be like "I don't offer pain medication unless the patient asks for it" and then the patient will ask for it and then it's all "this patient requested pain meds..... drug seeking behavior" like okay wtf are they supposed to do then? Stoically cry one tear down their cheek when I come to check on them so I can benevolently grant them 5 mg of oxy? 6) enduring pain doesn't make people better people, it actually makes people angry and tired and sad, so good luck building your therapeutic rapport while you make them beg for pain medication, maybe all your patients wouldn't be so mean to you if they weren't all suffering the entire time you're responsible for them, 7) if you aren't gonna give opioids and you're also not gonna page the doc for other meds and you're not gonna get ice packs and you're not gonna reposition your patient and you're not gonna ambulate them when they say that helps their hips and you're not gonna talk to them for a while to distract them and you're not gonna get them a jello cup to eat if they want, then literally how are you better than a little roomba with a med cup full of Lipitor scooting into their room?
I'm aware of the risks of opioids, I don't give them when it isn't safe or indicated, and I'm also aware that opioids aren't even good for all types of pain, but they can be an absolute gift to patients who need them. They aren't inherently evil. We don't have to make people suffer to improve their character. Even if suffering did that (it doesn't), improving character is outside my scope of practice. Here's some morphine.

i had someone tell me chiro wasnt real and wasn't doing anything for me in the same breath they told me to try cbd oil 🫢
SCREAAMMMMM I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me to just go align my chakras instead. also god I love being told by other people that it isn't Doing Anything to me. like DAMN THAT'S CRAZY... Ig when I've fucked my neck so badly that I can't turn my head to the right, and I'm able to finally get range of motion back again only after getting a chiro adjustment, that must be like a sugar pill thing or something. Or when I have a tension migraine that won't go away for days and days but dissipates after an adjustment. Or when being bedridden with back pain was a common occurrence before I started going to a chiro regularly and now I can go on walks and hikes without my lower back seizing up. Or how my carpal tunnel improved when she started loosening up my wrists. But I guess it doesn't "do anything". I must be fully imagining it. It must just be some woo-woo mind shit. I should probably just smoke some weed and that will physically heal my entire body. I should probably just drive to oklahoma city and pay some extra for a PT to tell me to do some of the exact same stretches my chiro advises me to do, and advise some of the exact same habit changes my chiro has mentioned, and to perform some of the exact same adjustments, but call them "manual therapy" instead. Oh, PTs don't do "adjustments", they simply put their hands on you and manipulate your muscles/joints to alleviate pain, loosen you up, and feel for small misalignments. Which is fucking exactly what a chiropractor does.

hi guys i’m here to talk about drugging and whump. and not in the ways you may think!
(put under cut for topics of drug addiction)
an idea i’ve been absolutely obsessed with is a whumper who regularly gives whumpee addictive drugs. like just imagine the possibilities for a second. whumpee feels dependent on whumper, and even if they ever try to run away, they’ll experience drawback symptoms that might just be strong enough to bring them right back. bonus points if it’s a drug that only whumper has access to so whumpee literally doesn’t have a choice. sorry im normal
another thing is not letting whumpee know that they’re being drugged. maybe whumper frames it as a supplement or gives it to them in a more conspicuous way. then when whumpee leaves and starts experiencing drawback they just get hella conflicted on why they feel so sick whenever they’re not around whumper.

The fact that there are cigarettes in Trigun implies the existence of tobacco farms. And like.... i have some follow up questions.
Mostly how fucking expensive are those things, because like it's gotta be a Plant assisted farm right?? We only see greenery 1-2 times depending on which Trigun version you're in. So farms and shit probably aren't too common? Unless it's more of a greenhouse situation. I mean, they obviously have flour cause they have donuts, so maybe i'm over thinking it.
It just seems like anything that comes from a plant (of our variety, not of energy source variety) would be incredibly expensive on a desert planet.
SO HOW THE FUCK DOES WOOWOO AFFORD HIS SMOKING ADDICTION?????

(ER AU)
Ok so I was stuck on either having ハンジ as an MD for ER/ED, ICU, or like infectious disease…but tbh their horrible work habits, love for action, and messy habits are ER lol.
リヴァイ is the only paramedic that actually shows up on time and can start an IV on anything, anywhere.

i'm always so afraid to ask my psychiatrist about increasing my dose of adhd meds bc i'm afraid she'll be like "ok addict no more meds for you at ALL" like she won't just refuse the increase but also stop prescribing the meds entirely despite her NEVER displaying that mentality before AND THAT'S WHAT STIGMA DOES TO A BITCH (i'm the bitch)

So turns out my old migraine medication was addictive....
Been off it for 2 days. Spent the day shaking, crying and essentially living in a panic attack.
My old neurologist (who prescribed this) Basically went 'welp you're still technically under 18 so fuck off kid. Good luck ✌️'
Fml.
