Doug Eiffel set to "Run Away to Mars" by TALK.
Animatic idea from my morning commute that will never happen because I am not a visual artist and do not have the motivation to learn said skill for a project as big as a full-length song.
Your colour’s fading 'Cause I kept you waiting It’s a wild, wild world And you’re a wild, wild girl
Zooming in on a polaroid of Anne and Eiffel smiling. The color becomes stronger as we get closer, and by the time it takes up the full frame it's no longer a fading polaroid but an in-motion memory of them playing air-guitar in a public park. We also see flashes of Anne growing up without Eiffel.
Our sun’s still shining But it seems half the size And it’s a wild, wild world Out here
We're back on Earth, post-canon maybe? And there's comparison shots between Sol in Earth's sky and Wolf 359 as seen from the Hephaestus, both in its smaller red stage and its larger blue stage.
Before my time runs out What If I run away to Mars? Would you find me in the stars?
We see the initial launch, maybe Cutter offering Eiffel the job when he's in prison. Eiffel staring out a shuttle window as he gets his last glimpses of Earth, the planet quickly shrinking into nothingness. A brief shot of Kate and Anne glancing at the night sky, maybe while they carry in groceries. Nothing to suggest they're actually looking for Eiffel.
Would you miss me in the end If I run out of oxygen? When I run away to Mars
Some of Eiffel's initial struggles on the Hephaestus, including the time he nearly drowned on a spacewalk. Also featuring Eiffel coughing on knock-out gas while Minkowski is trapped outside the airlock during Hilbert's initial betrayal.
I can’t tell which way's home I’ve been gone for so long It’s an empty world Up here
Shots of them being unable to orient themselves because Eiffel didn't keep up the star charts. Eiffel alone in the storage room sifting through the boxes of junk. Shots of each of the first four characters alone in a different room or hallway of the Hephaestus. Glimpses from "Am I Alone Now?"
I skip stones and wonder How long till I'm discovered? It’s a quiet life Up here
Long, quiet shots of Eiffel counting and fiddling with his illicit cigarettes, in between sending out hails into space and receiving static in return.
Before my time runs out What If I run away to Mars? Would you find me in the stars?
We see Hilbert's experiments on Eiffel, when he's coughing and can't breathe. When he nearly dies. He's a ticking timebomb himself.
Would you miss me in the end If I run out of oxygen? When I run away to Mars
We get Hera saying to herself "Some days I wonder if I’ll miss you after you go away forever, Doug." We also get her threatening Lovelace and Hilbert over Eiffel's life.
Three, two, one, I miss you I’m sorry, I got issues
A shot of the polaroid taped to his desk. Eiffel explaining it to Minkowski. Eiffel yelling at his imaginations/hallucinations of his crew during the USS Horrible Unending Nightmare.
What If I run away to Mars? Would you find me in the stars?
The launch of Lovelace's shuttle with him trapped aboard. Hera and Minkowski scanning space for him desperately. Long, hopeless shots.
Would you miss me in the end If I run out of oxygen? When I run away to Mars
While Eiffel rations food and cryogenically freezes and thaws himself, looking closer and closer to death each time, we see Minkowski, Hera, Lovelace, and Hilbert getting sadder, more tense, and more snappish on a space station that is falling apart.
The answer is yes, they would miss him in the end.

When do you see with our son is saying and daughter that these people at the house are trying to get him to stay there not go anywhere and a threatening him and they don't like it because they go out there and people threaten them with all sorts of things and when they try and keep him there they can beat up and it's a challenge for them because I have people do not want them doing that in other words they don't want them holding him there and it is a problem so they did the stupid thing out of tea Park now I'm going to tell you it's not right and not fair but it says it's because of long guns I need you before too the same people over at the park so we're wondering why and referred to us that they don't have it handle on things in the water this came true not to mention here they're kind of very very annoying people and we're going to have to do something today
Thor Freya
They're under indictment for serious charges and more charges are going to be brought up once they go to court and they will not be able to get out of it they have done some very bad things and they are going to be brought the trial and they're going to be probably executed for what they have done anytime he has to sit there with them stinky and jerky and them threatening him it's been horrible the whole world has gone through this and they are nasty people and right now they're trying to threaten to find me and people see how horrible they are they are nasty and creatures.
Hera
It's going to be just a few moments before his back over there and we can see them Nash in their teeth and seeing all sorts of stuff and the police and sheriff are angry and we don't mean the ones that are them of course and their bums okay but for instance they will not stopping anything that's what they say that's foolish they have him doing things and it's a parallel and we don't understand why they're saying it no we do it's just foolish to say and it really has to be proven that it's foolish so they are going to be apprehended this evening and of course don't believe it tons of people are going to be after them shortly.
Thor Freya
We have all sorts of warrants and APD on them and they're not aware of it and they're sitting there following him around on the bus and they're ridiculous it is yeah there's going to be a problem with them and we're going to get in their face and we're going to take them in. I am not used to people with this attitude and I've seen it been so bad it hurts makes people with all the time and they think they're getting somewhere and really they're just getting two people and making them mad who sings are going to become a parent to them that they were wrong but the question is when it's taking so long for them to get it and we don't have forever to wait for them to understand how badly they can make a mistakes. Like to hold a big meeting with everybody I'm really tired of this dude is under indictment and he acts like nothing happened it's not right
Mac daddy

Ooh, you write for Greek Mythology? Perhaps Zeus kidnapping a male reader, and basically not listening to them at all. Zeus getting more and more annoyed that the reader fails to care about all the opulence, grandeur, and power Zeus has. The reader just trying to escape and struggle. Zeus deciding to teach them a lesson to respect the king of the gods?
Yandere Zeus x male reader
I was so tempted to just write a scene where Zeus just goes boop! And turns the reader into a cow 😂😂😂😂😂 Anyways, thanks for requesting! Greek Mythology is also one of weaknesses, especially Hades, Persephone, Ares, and Hephaesteus💖💖💖
Enjoy!
Check out my MASTERLIST for more!
TW: gore
Yandere Zeus:
It didn't work.
Nothing works.
You laid in a fetal position on the wooden floor of your apartment; crying. Crying because of the pain.
The pain of emptying the bottle of acid into your eyes? Partly the reason.
The pain of realisation that you've lost? Mostly.
I should've just stayed there. You cried. Should've just stayed with him and let him have his way.
It would've been far less traumatising than this anyways. This, this curse that he had given you all because you didn't want to sleep with him.
Who would've thought that Zeus, the Greek God, would have become obsessed with a mere mortal like you? And then who would have even imagined that he would kidnap you and take you to Olympus; where he would confess his love for you?
You certainly didn't. You thought that maybe you were just off your meds or that this was just a really weird dream. But the reality of the situation dawned on you the longer you stayed there; the longer Zeus made his advances on you.
You didn't get why he was so infatuated with you. Or so tolerant either. You've heard all the stories about him kidnapping others and forcing himself on them, but he never once forced himself on you. He could have, but he didn't. Instead, he kept on trying to gain your affection like one would do in a normal relationship.
His palace was the main attraction of Olympus. Golden gates and marble floors and huge pillars showed the grandeur of the palace. Wine so sweet that you couldnt get enough of, yet you didnt get drunk and food so delectable, you could devour the entire table. How you wished you could stay here forever and enjoy these treats, but you knew nothing comes for free.
Zeus tried to impress you with his powers, his wealth, and everything he could give you if only you accept to be with him for eternity. He had even given you the gift of immortality, which you tried to return but couldn't.
He was being beyond generous and patient with you. But you couldn't help but feel he had a sinister ulterior motive behind those charming grey eyes.
When showing off wasn't working, he started getting physical. Brushing his hands on your body, hugging you a bit too long for it to be comfortable, even forcing you into his lap.
Of course, you struggled. Who wouldn't? A powerful god comes and whisks you away to another dimension, then proclaims his love for you and offers you all the luxurious amenities one could only dream of, only asking for your love in return? When he could easily overpower you? Yeah, something doesn't sit right.
And its not just that reason alone that you kept resisting him, you know. You've heard of his wife and sister, Hera. You've heard all the stories of how she would treat her husband's mistresses and men.
You feared her, because if anything, the Olympian Gods were famous for their cruel punishments.
You really should've remembered that when you finally flipped out on Zeus, screaming how you don't need him, don't care about him, don't and won't ever love him.
That was the first time you saw him get angry, but it was gone just as soon as it came.
He collected himself and sighed. You thought you had finally gotten through to him but instead of letting you go or even strike you with thunder for such disrespect, he did something else. “You really want to return so bad? Alright, who am I to deny my love?”
He made a bet with you. "If you can survive in your world without me for... 2 months? No, that'll be too harsh on you; 1 month, I'll let you go and never pursue you ever again. And if i win, you'll do everything I say." He smirked. "What do you say? Sounds fair?"he asked you, his eyes hinting nothing mischievous.
You knew better. You knew he was playing some really heinous game with you, where all the rules are in his favour and the odds were stacked against you. But you were desperate for escape. Plus, it was only a month right? You could do it.
But you couldn't.
Zeus had given you a parting "gift". Which you had to accept in order to leave. You didn't know what exactly it was until you returned home.
You were surprised to see everything was normal. You thought that maybe you would be kicked out of your apartment, bankrupted yourself or someone was going to kill you.
No. Nothing bad was happening to you. It was happening to everyone around you and they didn't even know it.
As it turns out, Zeus had cursed gifted you with the ability to see how someone was going to die when you looked at them. And you could warn them all about it, but no one would believe you. You couldn't prevent their deaths. And somehow, everyone around you had horrible, gruesome deaths.
You had those pictures forever embedded in your mind.
You'll never forget how your tailor friend had her hair loose and they got stuck in the sewing machine, and ripped her entire scalp off, tearing away all the nerves and blood vessels.
Or how a guy from work accidentally slipped on to the rail tracks, and was run over by the incoming train; his skin and guts stuck to the tracks. They had to pour chemicals to dissolve his remains.
Or how your pot dealer owed some people, and wasn't able to pay them so they put him through a mince machine, but the machine kept getting stuck so they chopped his already mutilated body and then threw him back into the machine, piece by piece.
It was too much.
You decided to not look at all. You wrapped your eyes in a tight bandage around your head, but all thanks to him, you could see right through them.
When that plan failed, you decided to stay at home and avoid contact with people completely. But then, you could see the deaths of people on your TV, on your phone, even of people in your dreams. And the deaths were getting more gorey and disturbing.
So, you decided to pour acid into your eyes. It was painful. And for a second, it was worth it because you couldn't see.
But they regenerated back. Because he had made you immortal. Your eyes healed back with the perfect 20/20 vision.
And thats how you were in this position right now. Crying to yourself as you finally admit to that you've lost.
"Zeus."you finally whispered, not even entirely sure you did. But that was confirmed when you felt a slight breeze behind you, causing you to cry harder.
"Shhh, darling. Its okay. I'm here now."Zeus said to you in a calming voice, as he pulled you to his chest.
"P-please make it stop. I- I'm sorry! Just make it stop please, I beg you."you cried into his chest.
He ran his fingers through your hair, pressing a soft kiss to your temple. "Did you learn lesson, love?"he asked in a quiet tone.
You pulled your head out of his chest and nodded vigorously. "yes! Yes. I've learned it. You were right. I was wrong. I- I lost the bet. Just please make it stop-"you sobbed.
Zeus caressed your cheek, looking deep into your eyes. "Alright. Let’s go back home, okay? I've missed you a lot. 2 weeks apart was far too long for me, love."
When you both returned to Olympus, you were met with a woman. As you looked at her in the arms of Zeus, you didn’t have to ask to know the Queen of Olympus was waiting for her husband and you.
She smiled at you.
“Welcome back, darling.”

Here’s another full-fledged fic, friends!
Pairing: Kanan Jarrus/Hera Syndulla
Rating: G
A/N: This one’s set the night of Season 3, Episode 3: The Holocrons of Fate. This is my vision of how Kanera dealt with the whole K-disappearing-for-six-kriffing-months thing. Enjoy and feel free to leave feedback if the Force calls you to!
@kanerallels <3
Hera Syndulla can’t wield the Force.
Not even a little bit.
But even so, she’s been told that she has a real talent for sensing other people’s emotions.
It started when she was a little girl—a knot in her stomach or some tension in her lekku would appear out of nowhere. She’d suddenly feel frustrated, sad, or afraid without understanding why. Except for times during puberty and her time of month—unfortunately, Hera wasn’t exempt from actual mood swings—those feelings that came out of the blue were never hers at all. When these unexplained emotions appeared within her, Hera would come to find out that someone close to her was struggling with something that had induced the exact feeling that Hera had experienced. So, she was often able to figure out what the people around her were feeling before they understood it themselves. It even, on occasion, happened with complete strangers.
Over time, she even became capable of knowing whose wave of emotions she was being hit by. Everyone’s felt slightly different. Emotional intensity varied from person to person, as did how they felt their emotions. Some beings felt their emotions pounding in their temples, others carried their stress in their shoulders, while others’ feelings made knots in their stomachs materialize. Hera became such an expert on discovering how each person was feeling that she’d often greet a friend or family member by asking why they were feeling so angry, sad, or afraid. The closer she was to a person, the more sensitive she was to their emotions, and the stronger they felt to her.
Hera has never been as in touch with anyone’s emotions as she is with those of Kanan Jarrus.
During the six months when he distanced himself from Hera and the rest of his family, she had always known when the nightmares had come. But he had never come to find her like he used to when the terrors struck. Hera could feel the pull to him—it was always present, no matter how she denied it—growing inside of her until it was almost unbearable, but she had steeled herself and remained where she was (usually the pilot’s seat). She spent plenty of nights staring off into the stars like she and Kanan used to do together, feeling the pain of doing nothing gnawing at her soul. But her respect for Kanan’s desires and needs outweighed it all. She knew him better than anyone else, so she could tell that he didn’t want her help right then. If he had, he would have come and found her. He had to come to her on his own time.
For six months, Kanan hadn’t wanted her help. He hadn’t wanted her.
Hera had to keep telling herself that this hadn’t broken her heart.
When she feels the sickening wrench of panic in her chest while sitting in the pilot’s chair on Atollon, though, she knows in her core that this time is different. This time, he needs her.
In an instant, she’s jumped to her feet, placed her datapad on the floor of the cockpit, and is slamming the button on the Ghost’s controls that opens the door to Kanan’s cabin. No one but her knows that any of the cabin door locks can be overridden from the cockpit, and she plans on keeping it that way.
She’s in his cabin in a flash, heart racing and Kanan’s fear coursing through her veins. She can hear him tossing and turning in the dark as she presses the button to turn on the lights. The dark-haired Jedi in the bottom bunk is drenched in sweat, the sheets twisted around his thrashing form. His scarred eyes are shut tightly. Hera realizes that, though he returned from his self-imposed exile several days ago and lost his sight six months ago, she hasn’t seen him without some sort of blindfold or mask covering his eyes since the incident. His face is twisted into an agonized expression.
Hera runs to his side. “Kanan,” she tries to call him from whatever world of horrors he’s trapped in. “Kanan, wake up!”
The Jedi’s whole body immediately responds to her voice, turning towards her and stilling slightly. Kanan’s always told her that he loves the sound of her voice. So she keeps talking.
“Don’t worry, everything’s fine.”
Kanan’s face twists again, and he seems to look around searchingly, though his eyes are still closed. His body is shaking, his fear palpable.
“It’s me, Kanan, I’m right beside you; you’re safe.
His eyes fly open.
Kanan’s eyes, eyes that Hera could have stared into forever (though she had usually done her best not to think about that), eyes full of beautiful, vibrant aquamarine, are now pale and colorless.
Hera scolds herself for the lump in her throat that forms. It doesn’t matter. This shouldn’t upset me. Am I really that shallow?
She shakes off the sudden wave of sorrow and focuses on Kanan.
“Hera?” he calls for her, still searching. His face fills with panic again. “Where are you?”
“Look at me—“
Hera stops short.
That was how she had always drawn him from his nightmares before. Look at me, she’d tell him. I’m here. She’d turned the light on for this exact purpose when she’d entered, forgetting for a moment that everything had changed.
She’ll have to get creative this time.
“I can’t!” Kanan cried. “I can’t anymore, Hera, it’s gone—“
“I know, I know—“
“You’re so far away,” his voice breaks as he speaks.
Hera moves closer. “No. I’m right here, Kanan.”
“No,” he says miserably. “You’re gone—you left me—everyone left me—I’m useless, I’m broken, no one needs me anymore—it’s too late—“
His voice, full of anguish, breaks again and his body shakes with tears that he is no longer able to shed. Hera forgets that he broke her heart, that he left them all, that the deepening relationship between them had suddenly become nonexistent. The man she loves is hurting, and she’s going to fix that. Or, at least, help him through it.
She goes back to the door, turning off the lights so she’s forced to see how he sees. Then she climbs into the bunk beside him.
His body is racked with sobs as she places a hand on his cheek. He gasps at her touch.
“Kanan,” she says in her most soothing, reassuring tone—the one that has never failed to calm him before—“do you feel me?”
“Hera,” he whispers, filled with relief, and sounding…awestruck, for some reason.
“It’s me,” she tells him comfortingly, emphasizing her next words. “I never left you, and I never will.”
Kanan begins to mumble her name, one of his hands finding its way on top of hers, the other holding onto her forearm for dear life. The way he says her name always makes her heart race, though she’s never really understood why. No one else pronounces it like that…the way he speaks out the two syllables somehow sounds and feels like a caress. He begins to speak hastily; desperately.
“I can still fight for the Rebellion—I have the Force, it’ll help me see—I’m not truly blind because I can see myself.”
“I believe you, Kanan,” Hera presses her forehead against his. “You’re not useless. We’re never giving up on you.”
Kanan feels her arm, touches her shoulders, his hands seeming to be on a mission to make sure she’s really there. When they near her lekku, Hera moves them away. He’s touched them before, with her permission. That first time he did was the best nights she’d ever had…and so was every other night he’d done it again. Now that he’s been gone for so long, and he clearly doesn’t want her…
Focus on your mission. He needs you—right here; right now.
Hera slips out of her thoughts and feels Kanan place his hand on the side of her face for a moment, then take her in his arms and hold her close. He presses his forehead to hers. Their closeness makes Hera’s heart attempt to catch up to Kanan’s pounding one.
Slowly, his body relaxes. His heavy breathing evens.
Hera relaxes, too. More than she has in six months.
She hasn’t let herself realize how much she’s missed the complete safety she always feels in his arms. She lets him hold her, tucking her head underneath his. Kanan makes a noise of discomfort, and she smiles softly, placing her forehead against his again. This has always been the position they’ve used when comforting each other. Kanan sighs contentedly.
Eventually, he stirs, and she knows he’s emerged from the nightmare.
“Hey,” Kanan greets her, the panic gone from his voice, gentleness and awkwardness taking its place.
There has never been awkwardness between them. Not like this.
Hera lifts her head from his. “Better now?” she asks him.
He shudders. “That’s an understatement.”
Hera strokes his cheek in reply. The last six months had seemed to fade into oblivion during the last few minutes, but now she feels the shards of pain return.
Will he ask me to leave?
“Hera…” he says her name for the thousandth time that night. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” she responds quietly.
They don’t move from their positions.
After a moment, he continues tentatively. “You don’t have to stay.”
Hera can still feel the remains of her anger towards him from several days before cutting into her, but the image of his tortured face and voice from earlier are seared into her mind.
“Do you want me to leave?” she asks gently.
His arms involuntarily tighten around her.
She laughs softly in spite of it all. Though her hurt and anger is returning, she’s delighted that he wants her beside him.
“I’m staying.”
Hera realizes that he’s been holding his breath when he resumes breathing again. His pulse speeds up, though it isn’t pounding frantically like it was earlier.
The night he’d come back, they’d had their worst fight to date. Once they were alone in his room, she’d tried—Kanan would chastise her for using that word—to hold her emotions back, to be understanding, but her hurt had led to anger, and it had burst out of her, as it often did. Words had spilled out of her, words she’d bottled up inside her for the last six months. She’d said things she knew she’d regret, things that she could see cutting through him. But her own pain had blinded her in that moment. She’d kept going for those six months, never stopping long enough to deal with her hurt, so it had only festered. Kanan had been defensive, stony-faced, his arms crossed, and that had only enraged her further.
Then, today, after several days of avoiding each other, Maul had attacked the Ghost. Throughout the experience, Hera’s lekku had burned with the knowledge that her last interaction with Kanan, besides a short phrase here and there, had been full of biting words and simmering hurt.
She’d spent the hours after Kanan had rescued her and the others contemplating out what to say and how to apologize. She’d been in the middle of doing so when the wrench of terror sent her straight to his room.
The fight had ended with her snapping, “Don’t pretend you still want me. You proved that that wasn’t true when you abandoned me—abandoned us for half a year.” Her voice had broken against her will. “You didn’t even say you were leaving. Or when you’d be back.” Then she’d slammed on the button to close her door in his face, blinking furiously to hide the scorching tears in her eyes. Hera had slid down the wall, then spent the rest of that night finally letting the tears she’d held back spill out of her.
“You…you want to stay?” Kanan now asks her uncertainly. “Everything you said several nights ago—it all makes sense, and I’m so sorry.” His earnestness and guilt rolls off of him as he continues. “I understand if you don’t forgive me; I know I hurt you—I was gone for so long—“
Hera interrupts softly. “I forgive you.”
He stops his uncomfortable, awkward squirming.
“You do?”
His tone is so full of uncertainty and hope that Hera’s heart melts.
“I do,” she tells him gently. “For everything.”
Kanan begins to protest, torture and regret emanating from his voice, even as Hera can feel some of the tension begin to drain out of him. “No, Hera, you shouldn’t forgive me so easily. I don’t deserve that. After all these years, I just left. The way I made you feel…” Kanan’s voice wavers before he continues. “I thought that the Force was telling me to spend time alone—that was my excuse. But I distanced myself from the Force, from you, from everyone—and I don’t even know why.” He shakes his head, incredulous at himself, then desperately starts to explain. “I couldn’t handle any responsibilities or obligations. My feelings took over—I thought I was useless, that I was a failure because of my blindness—my depression overwhelmed me. I was lost—lost again, like I was when you found me on Gorse.” Kanan’s still holding her, but his embrace feels almost fragile, like he’s afraid that she’ll rip herself away from him at any second. “I thought I had grown since then, that it would never happen again. It wasn’t just that I lost my vision—it was that Ahsoka is gone, that we lost against that Sith Lord—” Kanan heaves a sigh, one heavy with self-hatred. “And now I’m making it about me again.”
Hera listens intently. He’s clearly been carrying this within him for too long. “It’s all right,” she reassures him quietly. “Talk to me.”
“I never stopped wanting you,” he says in a rough voice, one filled with sincerity and raw emotion, and Hera’s broken heart skips a beat. “And I know that that doesn’t seem true, because I still stayed away.” He’s quiet for a moment. Hera can practically hear the gears in his mind turning as he works to verbalize and explain. “I couldn’t face you. Not when I felt so lacking, and you’re so…so capable, so impactful, so successful.“
Hera nearly protests at this, but she stays silent for his sake, knowing that her interruption won’t be helpful to him right now.
“I was ashamed. Ashamed of my weakness. Ashamed that I didn’t sense Maul coming, that I didn’t stop him somehow. And…I couldn’t face the pain of not being able to see you. I didn’t want to hold you back or burden you, or make you feel like you had to let me tag along on missions. I thought that you were better off without me in your way.”
Hera’s heart is reeling and rejoicing at the fact that she is still wanted, that he never really rejected her, but she also knows that he’ll only keep spiraling downward if she doesn’t interject at the right time—which is now.
“You don’t have to explain it all to me,” she tells him sincerely, though the still-angry side of her screams that that isn’t true.
“I’m just trying—I just want you to know that…that I still love you, Hera.”
The earnestness in his voice and the admission of “I love you” does it. Hera can feel her shattered, rejected heart begin to heal. What he says next only soothes it further.
“The depression drowned everything out—but sometimes I would hear your voice, or see your face in my mind, and that kept me from losing all hope. From giving up on everything.”
Hera’s heart swells, and tears spring up in her own fully whole eyes. She places her forehead against his again. His breath catches, but he finishes speaking. “I understand if you don’t feel the same way. I don’t know why you would, after how much I hurt you. I…I can tell you’re heartbroken, Hera.” His body starts shaking again, as if he’s living inside of another nightmare. “And knowing I did that to you—just because all I could think about was myself and what I needed, rather than what you and the rest of the crew needed—“ Hera can feel the unshed tears again as he begins to apologize, again and again, until he loses the ability to speak. She gently cradles his head, stroking his disheveled hair, her own healing heart throbbing at his anguish. She brushes her thumbs over where the tears would be, if everything were different.
“I’m too full of mistakes,” he sobs. “You deserve much better than someone like me.”
Hera decides that now she’s on a mission—a mission to stop her Jedi’s spiral of self-hatred.
“Listen to me, Kanan Jarrus,” she tells him in a firm but kind tone, as she continues to stroke his hair. “You’re no worse than anyone else. We all make mistakes. We’re all selfish at times. Even those of us who devote our lives to helping others sometimes hurt them instead. Caring about someone means helping them move on from their mistakes and make it right. What kind of people would we be if we never gave others a second chance?”
His dry shaking begins to stop, and Hera can feel him listening in rapt attention.
“You know I don’t give up—and I never gave up on you. I never will. Yes, you’ve hurt me, but I care enough about you to forgive you. Who you are right now is worth forgiving. You’re worthy of forgiveness, of my choosing you, even though you aren’t perfect.” Hera’s words seem to hit hard, since Kanan’s breath catches again. She continues genuinely and tenderly, “Even if I met the most perfect person in the galaxy, I’d still choose you instead. You’re truly good, Kanan.”
After a moment of silence, Kanan whispers, “You really mean that?”
Hera lifts his face and presses a kiss to his forehead. “Of course I do. And I really do forgive you. If you’ll forgive me for hurting you instead of listening to you over the last few days.” Now her own voice is colored with remorse. “I should have been there for you, helping you readjust.”
“But, Hera, I understand why you were angry. I deserved it.”
“That doesn’t make it right,” Hera points out. “Will you forgive me?”
Immediately, he replies, “Yeah. I forgive you.”
Then his hands move for the first time since his nightmare. He places one on her cheek, while the other moves to the small of her back. Hera’s heart begins to pick up speed as his face nears hers. “Is it all right if I…?” he asks in a whisper, ever respectful of her boundaries. In answer, Hera moves her own face closer to his, and their lips meet.
Six months is a long time.
But the longer you’re deprived of something, the sweeter it is when you finally get to experience it again.
The first thing Hera feels is the warmth. It spreads throughout her whole body, especially her lekku, chasing away the emptiness and loneliness that became the new normal in Kanan’s absence. One of his hands caresses her cheek, while the other pulls her close, resting on the small of her back. She pulls the band from his now-destroyed ponytail, slipping it expertly onto her wrist (she’s had plenty of practice) and threading her fingers into his hair. She can feel him smile into her lips when she does so, which makes her smile in return. Kanan seems to get a burst of excitement, a delighted gasp escaping him. Hera pulls away just enough to ask, “what is it?”
He responds, his voice charged with enthusiasm and love,
“I got to feel you smile again.”
A wave of emotion sweeps over Hera, her heart squeezing at the overwhelming amount of sweetness infused into that small sentence. She presses her lips to his again, beaming just for him. Kanan laughs giddily, a sound of pure joy.
Hera hasn’t heard him laugh in so long.
So she can’t help but laugh with him. A moment later, his thumb begins stroking her cheek more urgently. She gently breaks the kiss to ask, “What is it, love?”She can feel his giddiness rise at the term of endearment, which makes her beam again. He murmurs in a voice filled to the brim with gratitude, “Thank you, Hera. For forgiving me. I thought that I’d lost this. I thought that I’d messed up too badly to ever earn your affection again.” Misery seems to overwhelm him at the thought.
“There’s no need to earn it,” she assures him, placing her other hand, the one not entwined in his hair, on his chest. “Honestly, I couldn’t take it from you if I tried,” she confesses.
“Are you saying that you’re hopeless, Hera Syndulla?” The cocky slyness, which had made up the Kanan Jarrus that she first met all those years ago on Gorse, fills his voice.
She rolls her eyes, then remembers that the lights are out, and that he can’t see her anyway. And yet—
“You just rolled your eyes, didn’t you?”
“You earned it,” she deadpans.
He laughs again and somehow pulls her closer, so that their foreheads are touching again.
“There’s the Hera I remember,” he declares, tenderness and the classic mischievousness returning.
She showcases her own mischievous streak in her reply. “Missed me, love?”
“Every second,” he answers tenderly.
“I missed you, too,” she tells him, warmth filling her tone and her soul.
That sly mischievousness again. “Especially my sense of humor, right?”
“Actually, that’s what I missed the least,” she switches back into deadpanning.
“Hey!” he protests, his tone a convincing one of feigned offense, but then it makes way for the trademark slyness. “But you did miss it.”
Hera groans. “That is not what I said.”
“You’re not denying it,” Kanan teases.
After a moment, he declares, “I’ve finally found the one benefit that comes with being blind.”
“What’s that?” she asks, resigning herself to whatever nonsense he’s about to spill.
She can hear the grin in his voice. “Now I can’t see it when you glare at me.”
Hera rolls her eyes, then says in a playful tone, “But you can feel my anger in the Force, right?”
Kanan’s silent for a moment. “It’s impossible not to.” He shudders, mortified at the thought of it.
“Kanan Jarrus, you’re a Jedi Knight and a veteran of the Clone Wars, and you’re afraid of me?”
He lets out a huff of laughter, like the answer is obvious. “You bet.”
Hera’s voice is devious. “You should be.”
“Everybody should be. You’re terrifying, Hera.”
She chuckles, shaking her head slightly, her forehead still pressed to his. “You’re exaggerating.”
“Come on, I never exaggerate.”
After a moment of silence on Hera’s part, he amends reluctantly, “okay, I usually don’t exaggerate. You’ve seen how the kids and I look at you when you’re furious with us.”
Hera considers this. She always knows that when she gives members of her crew that glare, they’ll do whatever she says. Usually. “Maybe I should use it on whoever’s trying to attack us sometime.”
“You should. Just to see what would happen.”
She laughs. “I don’t even need a blaster. No armor can protect those stormtroopers from my death glare.”
“You better believe it,” Kanan murmurs, stroking the small of her back.
“I sure am glad you’re not angry with me anymore,” he adds after a bit of comfortable silence.
“Me too, love.”
Chills ripple over him at the term of endearment, and she chuckles lightly, a bubble of joy rising inside of her at how much he treasures her little ways of showing him how much she loves him.
Hera has no clue how long they stay like this, stealing kisses, sharing little touches, slipping in and out of conversation (complete with plenty of smiles and eyerolls). What she does know is that the distance between her and Kanan has disappeared. The emptiness and feelings of being incomplete have been replaced by fullness and completeness. No, they aren’t as close as they were before Malachor, but Hera has faith that that will change over time. What matters most is that she knows that Kanan is happier than he’s been in a long time. Eventually, they drift off into sleep, still holding each other close. Their dreams are peaceful, for there’s no room for nightmares when nothing but long-awaited contentment fills them both to overflowing.
When morning comes, the members of the Ghost Crew don’t need to be able to sense each others’ emotions to know that things have finally changed for the better.
The family is whole again.

A/N: Based on the theory that Dionysus was raised by Persephone for some time.
AO3 - KoFi
I wish I could keep him
Hades peeked into his wife’s chambers as she and her servants were packing. ‘Seph…’
The ghosts dissappeared in a wink. Persephone smoothed out the dress she was holding. ‘Hades. I’ll miss you too.’
‘Even though that’s true, that’s not what I wanted to talk about.’
Persephone carefully put down the garment. ‘What is it then?’
Hades didn’t say anything. Rather, he looked over at the little crib in the corner of the room.
‘Oh.’ Her smile faltered. ‘He’s sleeping.’
Hades nervously snapped his fingers. ‘Seph, this is really difficult for me to say, even if I think you are already aware of it. But, well, I think... there might be a chance that Zeus will make you... give him up.’
Persephone’s shoulders tensed. ‘He hasn’t send you a message yet, right?’
‘No.’
‘And a chance isn’t a certainty.’ She walked over to the crib. Softly, she caressed Nysus’ hair.
Hades stood next to her. ‘I just want to prepare you. I know how much he grew on you, on both of us, and that he makes you think of...’ He swallowed. ‘But if Zeus says he has to go somewhere else, there is little to be done about it. It’s his son.’
Persephone reached into the crib to pick up the child. She smiled as he slowly opened his eyes. ‘Hello, dewdrop. And Hades?’
‘Hm?’
‘We’ll see if there is nothing to be done about it.’
Hades stroked her back. ‘That’s the fire I know. I’ll miss you.’
‘I’ll miss you too.’
|
‘Mama!’
‘Sephie…’ Demeter gasped when she saw the baby strapped to her daughters’ chest. ‘You have...’
‘He didn’t come from me.’
‘I know who he is. Hermes told me.’ Demeter sighed. ‘I just had trouble believing him.’
‘It’s true.’ She pushed the blanket aside a little. ‘Do you want to see him?’
Demeter stepped closer. She carefully laid her hand behind his head. ‘He’s so pale. He needs sunlight and proper food.’
‘I tried my best with the food, but there is little to be done about sunlight in the underworld.’
‘That’s why you shouldn’t keep children there. I get that it was the safest solution, but it isn’t healthy.’
‘We’ll make sure he gets what’s healthy now. Won’t we, dewdrop?’ Nysus reached out to grab her finger. ‘I’m glad to be home.’
‘That’s good to hear.’ Demeter ran a hand through her daughters’ hair. ‘You clearly need some sunlight and proper food as well.’
‘Let’s first get Nysus some.’
‘Nysus.’ Demeter was quiet for a second. ‘I didn’t think you’d name him.’
‘Of course I named him. I don’t know why I chose Nysus, though.’
‘It’s a pretty name,’ Demeter agreed with a sigh.
‘Are you afraid I won’t be able to let him go? Hades already warned me.’ She held her arms protectively around the baby, who gave a small cry. ‘Shh, shh, it’s okay, dewdrop.’
Her mother looked older and more tired then ever. ‘I know you want to keep him close, Sephie. I understand. Perhaps… maybe, you can see him now and then.’
‘They haven’t even taken him away yet. Why does everyone keep acting like… like...’ As she struggled to find the words, coughing came from nearby. Persephone grew quiet.
‘... Sorry, Persephone. I know you love him very much.’
She turned away from Hermes. ‘If you know that, just leave.’
‘I already waited for too long.’ He shrugged. ‘I was ordered to retrieve him before you left the underworld. It took me hours to convince Zeus it was safer to keep him with you slightly longer. Then I thought, I might as well let you introduce him to Demeter, and then you can have him a couple days longer. Yet when I just saw you... I realised it isn’t in your best interest anymore.’
Persephone felt her lip quiver as she untied the blanket. She held the baby, her baby, in her arms. ‘I’ll miss him.’
Hermes sighed. ‘If it had been up to me, you could have kept him forever. But Zeus doesn’t want it.’
Demeter looked up at the sky. ‘He might be right, Sephie. My sister has been… agitated. She sees him as a threat.’
‘He’s a baby! Just a baby! And a mortal one at that…’ She took a deep breath. ‘Can I at least visit him?’
Hermes slowly shook his head. ‘How will it look if you showed up to the palace of his aunt time after time? Hera would get suspicious.’
‘I know.’ Persephone began to cry as she slowly loosened her grip.
Hermes took the baby from her. ‘Hello…’
‘Nysus. His name is Nysus.’
‘You named him?’
Persephone shrugged. Demeter put an arm around her shoulders, trying to sooth her. ‘I couldn’t help it.  I needed to adress him somehow, and I would have grown attached anyway.’
Hermes looked at the little bundle. ‘Zeus wants him to be raised as a girl,’ he whispered.
‘What?’
‘For safety, you see. Hera is looking for a boy. Zeus thinks, if we present him as a girl, she won’t find him.’
‘That can’t possibly go right.’
Hermes shrugged. ‘Whatever the king demands. But I’ll tell Ino that his name, or her name, is Nyssa.’
Persephone smiled through her tears. ‘Thanks.’
The baby opened his eyes. He began to cry as soon as he noticed that he wasn’t in Persephone’s arms.
Hermes didn’t have the heart to stop her as Persephone tried to sooth him. ‘It’s okay, dewdrop,’ she mumbled. He reached out to grab a strand of her hair. She bit her lip to stop herself from crying louder than she already was. ‘You’ll-you’ll get a lovely new mommy and she’ll take really, really good care of you and you’re gonna grow up big and strong and change the world.’ She tickeled him, which made the crying softer.
‘I’m taking him now,’ Hermes said in a weak voice. He hung Nysus’ blanket straight, before spiriting off.
As soon as he was gone, Persephone cried out and fell into Demeters’ arms.
‘He wasn’t really mine and from the start I knew I couldn’t keep him. But...’
‘I know. Oh, baby, I know it’s difficult. I wished you could have had him longer, I really do.’
‘It doesn’t feel much better than losing Zagreus.’
Demeter froze for a moment. ‘...I know, baby, I know. Cry now, and cry more if you need to. I’m here to comfort you.’
‘I won’t be there to comfort him.’
Demeter held her daughter as tightly as she could. ‘One day you can hold him again,’ She whispered. ‘I know you will, even if it’s just for a moment. I can feel it.’

Tumblr media
the scent of camp half blood was familiar— yet something felt different. it had been years since you had smelt it, and being there again brought upon a feeling you couldn’t quite explain. you listened for the familiar ruffle of the trees and the rippling of the lake, but heard nothing. it was silent; eerily silent. it was the middle of summer, yet the camp was still.
although, you had been away from everything for so long, you didn’t actually know if it was summer or not. truthfully, you didn’t even know exactly what year it was.
you inched towards the entrance of camp nervously. something inside of you was scared that you weren’t even going to be let into the camp— but as you read the ancient greek at the entrance fluently and your foot went through the barrier, you instantly calmed down. the familiar atmosphere of the camp was comforting, even if you could automatically feel how different it was.
making your way to the big house, you gathered that it was still early in the morning as you saw the sun peaking out in the east. it was chilly and the grass was wet and suddenly you realized how tired you were. you wanted nothing more than to collapse into your bunk in cabin 18. your cabin was often lively, as it was common for children of hebe to enjoy parties and be social; but you only had a few siblings and you were one of the oldest. they listened to you if you asked them to quiet down, and the environment of your cabin was soothing. you found yourself longing for it on rough nights, and now that you were back, you debated on just going straight there as if nothing happened.
but, you fought the temptation and knocked on the door to the big house. you found yourself anxious for a moment that no one would be awake, but you heard movement from the inside and the door opened seconds later. you looked down and saw chiron sitting in his wheelchair. he looked the same, as you assumed he would. somehow, he didn’t look surprised to see you.
“(y/n). i thought you’d be here today,” he said, moving himself out of the way. “come in, we can talk.”
you followed him to the main table in the house and took a seat across from him. he settled his hands into his lap and studied you. suddenly aware of how you may have changed, you shifted in your seat awkwardly.
“chiron, can i ask...” you said after a moment. “how long has it been? how long have i been gone?”
“a little over two years.”
you sank down in your seat. “oh.”
“do you want to fill me in on where you’ve been, or should i tell you what happened here first?”
“oh, uh— i guess a lot of its fuzzy,” you started. “i was with hera, and she sent me to do... different quests. time doesn’t really feel real, at this point. i never got a break, i don’t think. she sent me places and i forgot a lot about... my life. and everything.”
“do you remember everything now?”
“i remember all of my life before hera— yeah,” you paused, taking it in. “but i don’t remember a lot of what she had me do, or whatever she said to me when i wasn’t off on a quest. that’s why i didn’t know how much time passed, it feels like it’s been three years and three days at the same time.”
chiron sighed. “i get that. the gods have the powers to do whatever they want to time and your memory— but they rarely use the ability. but hera, after all she’s done...”
“why is she so against demigods? after she switched jason and percy for no reason we thought she was done, why did she need to take me?”
“i guess we’ll never truly know her intentions,” chiron said. “i did assume now is when you would return, though. leo valdez is missing.”
you felt your heart skip a beat. leo. he had been a constant in your mind in the past two years that you had been gone, just like how percy explained that annabeth was all he could remember. you had started dating a few months before you disappeared. suddenly you yearned for his warmth, remembering the feeling of his arms wrapped around you. your heart ached for him for years and now that you’re home— he’s gone.
“how... how long has he been missing?” you asked. chiron frowned.
“a few months. after the war ended, he disappeared, basically into the sky. (y/n)... there’s a good chance he didn’t survive.”
you could almost feel your heart breaking, but you knew that wasn’t the main issue at the moment. you took a deep breath to gather yourself. “how’s everyone else doing?”
“it’s been rough, obviously. the prophecy of the seven was fulfilled, which was hard enough on the campers. and with leo gone... no ones sure how to continue. but, we are at peace with rome and some campers are planning on college in great rome,” chiron said, obviously proud. you smiled gently.
“thats... amazing. is everyone here now? piper, annabeth, percy and jason?”
chiron nodded. “everyone is here. it is early, though. i suggest you head to your cabin for some rest, unless you have anymore questions?”
“honestly, i have hundreds. but... my brain is foggy. i can’t really focus on anything right now so, later. later i’ll bombard you with the questions,” you joked and chiron smiled.
“go, get some rest. breakfast starts in about an hour and a half, but you take all the time you need,” you stood up.
“thank you, chiron. it’s good to be back.”
as soon as you slipped into your cabin, you felt at home. you saw your younger siblings sleeping soundly and that warmed your heart to see. they were safe; they were okay.
your bunk was obviously saved for you. there were organized bags of your stuff laying on top, and the sheets were made neatly. you could tell that no one had slept there since you left. the thought of this was bittersweet; you were happy they waited for you but... you couldn’t imagine how worried they all were for you.
the more you thought about it, the more you realized how many people could have been worried for you.
when percy and jason were switched back, everyone seemed to be at ease. the romans and greeks seemed to be getting along, and things were good... for about an hour.
you were walking around rome with leo. the seven of the prophecy had been decided; leo was one of them, you were not. this wasn’t easy for either of you, as you had recently began dating, but you both knew that this didn’t mean forever. cherishing your time together, you walked hand in hand down the beautiful streets of new rome. after a while, leo decided he was going to go check up on the argo ii, make sure it was ready for the quest to come. you kissed him goodbye, and told him to iris message you whenever he got the chance.
before you knew it, camp jupiter was being attacked. and leo was the one behind it.
you ran through the crowd, trying to push towards the ship to see what the hell was happening to leo. but the romans were angry— and you were wearing an orange shirt.
you didn’t know exactly what happened next. one second you were pushing through the crowd, the next second you woke in a bright room, hera standing over you.
thus the years with hera began. she told you that she needed you— and she’d bring you home when you were ready. she brought you places and gave you quests to do, and the more time you spent with her, the more you weren’t sure how much time had passed, and the more you forgot your real life. you were stuck in an endless loop, until this morning, where hera plopped you down right outside of camp half-blood; with a fuzzy memory and a million questions.
you woke up later to an empty cabin. it was obvious people had been in and out of it, and you wondered how everyone reacted when they saw you in your bed. you were just internally grateful no one woke you up.
after getting ready (putting on a new camp t-shirt was so refreshing) you slipped out of your cabin and out into the sunlight. at first, it didn’t register how much time had passed, because everyone was in the dining hall as they would be during breakfast. but, after examining more, you gathered that you had awoken just as dinner was starting, and you had slept all day. you stood back, taking in the familiarity of the buzz of mealtime. as you stood there, unsure on how to present yourself to the campers, you heard your name.
“(y/n)?” you looked forward to be met with the gaze of your best friend, piper mclean, standing by her table, staring at you in disbelief. “i can’t believe it.”
the entire hall hushed as everyone looked in your direction. you were suddenly aware of every little thing about yourself, and you hated the attention. but when piper rushed forward to hug you, you ignored your surroundings and let yourself feel comfort in her hug. it had been so long since you had felt so... loved. after these past couple of years, then the news that leo was missing, taking in the scent and warmth of your best friend was the most comforting thing you could imagine.
piper pulled back from your hug and studied your face. you studied hers as well, noticing everything you could; any change you could find. but, she looked almost the same. she was the prettiest person you had ever seen, and although she seemed slightly older and wiser, it wasn’t in a negative way. “are you okay?”
“i’m fine,” you said. “obviously i’m... adjusting. but, i’m okay.”
“what happened to you? where have you been?” piper asked gently.
“when the romans were angry at us, after leo...” you hesitated and piper’s expression softened. you cleared your throat. “i was attacked, or something. next thing i knew i was with hera and basically did anything she needed. i was so tired, constantly doing work for her. everything i did with her is sort of fuzzy though, just like my personal life was when i was working for her, if that makes sense.”
“hera’s the worst,” piper said. “guess switching jason and percy just wasn’t enough for her.”
you raised your eyebrows in agreement before being approached by annabeth chase, one of your other closest friends, who hugged you tightly. “i’m so relieved you’re alright.”
“back at you,” you said. percy and jason followed close behind annabeth, and you hugged both of them as well. “i can’t imagine things have been easy for you guys.”
“it’s been rough,” jason agreed. “but we got through it.”
your mind went straight to leo, and the four of them obviously noticed. piper put her hand on your shoulder and jason frowned. “hey, i’m sure he’s...”
“no,” you stopped him. “it’s fine. i... i’m really proud of you guys. seriously, saving the world and shit. that’s pretty cool.”
they all laughed which brought a warm feeling to your chest. it was going to be rough without leo, but you adored your friends. you knew they’d be there for you no matter what.
“c’mon, you must be starving,” annabeth said. “plus, i think you have a few more people to chat with.”
annabeth motioned towards your cabins table, where your siblings sat anxiously, watching you with wide eyes. you grinned at the sight and made your way over to the table, only to be met with smiling faces and lots of questions.
Tumblr media
weeks past since you had returned to camp. you were settled back in and at ease with everything, but things still felt off. you figured it was just because you were most excited to come back to camp to see leo, but he was gone. and you didn’t even know if he was still alive.
you spent your days training and reconnecting with your friends. they had been through so much, and you couldn’t imagine how painful it was for them. they asked you questions about what you had been up to, but you weren’t able to answer them. you couldn’t remember a thing— it was like the past years had never happened. as days went on you forgot more and more about what you had done.
one morning, you stayed behind to finish cleanup in your cabin. now that you returned to camp, you returned to your position as head counselor. you were protective over your siblings (since you were the oldest), so when everyone was running late for breakfast, you volunteered to finish cleanup.
after you finished making all the beds, you fixed your hair and slipped out of your cabin. when the mess hall came into your line of vision, you paused as you saw a group of campers gathered around something. the scene was similar to how everyone reacted when you returned, and you watched curiously. but when you studied the campers who were grouped together, you realized it was a majority of the hephaestus canon who was standing. your eyes widened and you hurried forward, into the mess hall.
nyssa barrera, one of the older hephaestus kids, looked over at you and her eyes widened. she pulled a few of her siblings back to make room, and you were met with the grinning face of leo valdez.
your leo, standing there, in the flesh.
it took him a moment to see you, but when he did, his expression softened. he visibly relaxed, and his eyes studied your face. you were frozen in your spot and your eyes never left his. he inched towards you, and before you knew it you charged forward to him and threw your arms around his neck. he buried his face in your neck as he held you tightly around your waist. you took in his natural warmth and his vague scent of campfires and motor oil. he rubbed your back as you held him as tightly as possible. you never wanted to let go.
when you finally did pull back, you missed his warmth immediately. in his arms you felt safe, and that was something you had missed with your whole heart.
“are you okay?” was the first thing he asked you, tucking your hair behind your ears. you smiled at the sound of his voice. you didn’t realize how many little things you had missed.
“i’m okay. are you?”
“i’m... amazing,” he studied your face again. “gods i’ve missed you.”
“i’ve missed you too, you have no idea,” you said. your eyes drifted to a girl you didn’t recognize standing awkwardly behind leo. “who is that?”
leo raised his eyebrows and turned around to look at who you were referring to. “oh, this is my friend. calypso.”
“oh!” you said, remembering the story of calypso. “thats... hi! it’s really cool to meet you.”
“you as well,” calypso responded, her voice smooth. “leo talked about you non-stop.”
maybe it was the longing look on her face, or the fact that you had just finally reconnected with your boyfriend, but you moved towards calypso and pulled her into a hug. she tensed, but after a moment she relaxed and hugged you back. when you pulled back, you gave her a warm smile and when she gave you one back, you knew that there was no bad blood between you. calypso wanted to be loved— but she wasn’t interested in leo.
you turned around to find your way back next to leo. he watched you with a fond look on his face, and when you were closer to him, he grabbed your hand tightly. at this moment you made a promise to yourself — you would never lose him again.
chiron ended up coming over to tell people to sit at their tables for breakfast, but leo leaned over to whisper to you, “want to go chat? just the two of us?”
“absolutely.”
the two of you snuck out of the mess hall (although, if anyone had seen you, you doubted they would stop you from leaving). you made your way down towards the lake, hand in hand. you sat down next to each other, leo’s arm around your waist and your head on his shoulder.
“so how did you get calypso off her island?” you asked him after a moment of silence.
“well, i landed on her island a little while ago but i had to leave, obviously. was in the middle of a quest,” he said. “but she was miserable there, so i promised i’d come back to get her. and a few months ago, i landed on her island again, but with a plan this time.”
you listened intently. “and it worked?”
“for the most part. i had to work really hard to figure out a way to make it work, but it did. i just hope she gets a real chance to be happy now that she’s off her island.”
“that’s amazing. you did it against all odds, right?”
he chuckled lightly. “guess so. what about you? what happened to you?” you sighed and sat up to face him.
“i guess i’m not completely sure,” you started. he knit his eyebrows. “i was working with... or i guess, for, hera. but i don’t remember most of what she made me do. i just know i went on quests for her, and time didn’t really feel real. i had no idea how much time had passed when i returned.”
“gods that sounds... terrible,” he said genuinely. you shrugged.
“i got through it,” you grabbed his hand and started tracing lines on it. “and so did you.”
leo hummed and moved his other hand to your cheek. “i always knew you’d come back.”
“i knew you would, too.”
“promise to never leave me again?” you leaned into his hand.
“only if you promise me the same thing.”

Percy is having a very uninteresting day. Which he supposes should make him happy since those are far and few between in his life. But something about the weather—windy and bone chilling, despite the shining sun— is putting him on edge. He's never wanted to go home and wrap himself in a blanket and call his boyfriend more. He can imagine it now, that soothing voice rumbling about something completely mundane. Jason won't even demand a reply of him. He'll just be content to talk softly about anything and listen to Percy's hum of agreement every so often.
He walks into his psych lecture, groaning internally when he remembers its a double, and for the first time since he was twelve years old he wishes anything would spurt from the depths of Tartarus, so he can fight it. The day has in fact been that unexciting.
Instead he finds a seat somewhere in the middle and puts his head down to the cool wood of the table. The wood is scratched in pen and engravings that mark students long since gone into the world. His finger traces fading words absent-mindedly, bumping across "She loves him she loves him not," scraped deep into the table, a dying daisy hanging over it.
The story he imagines comes to him in a flash.
He pulls out his diary, the black leather-bound book falling in front of him with a thud. Scrambling for a pen, he clicks once twice, three times.
Dear Diary,
They start at an arcade. Beating each other at whack-a-mole. Giving each other hard-won prizes. They share an ice-cream. Mint choc chip and vanilla. They have a story to tell at the wedding they keep dreaming up. They go to high school. They see each other in the halls and smile like sunshine. They go on summer break and pick daisies, pluck at them until there's nothing but stem. They start college. And the flowers they'd picked that one summer evening bleed into the wooden table where the memory of them would live forever. They pass each other across the fields. They don't say hello. They never said goodbye.
he loves me not
1 week, and 48 minutes.
Percy's hands are shaking slightly by the time he puts the pen down. The lecture hall is almost full by now, and the shuffling of last minute feet slide across his mind. He stuffs the diary back in his bag and twirls the pen around his finger. The class is antsy with the need to feel the weekend on their skin. Friday afternoon lectures always make people climb to the highest distractions. A group is chatting animatedly two rows above. A girl with wings etched into her skin sits one seat down and diagonal from him, frowning at the highlights on her page; her leg taps to the beat of "I want to go". On the other side there are people slurping coffee and gobbling down fries as they attempt to polish off the last of their lunch. Some in the front rows have their textbooks open, a hesitantly bored look on their faces. A guy in the very first row perks up every-time the door swings open; he is waiting for the lecturer; he doesn't want to get out of this he wants to get through it.
Percy drops his head back in his arms and takes deep stale breaths. He just has to survive 45 minutes. That's only three fifteen minutes, or four and a half ten minutes, or nine five minutes. He just has to get through five minutes nine times. He can do that. He got through Tartarus once and that's actually hell.
The lecture room door swings and when it clicks shut it feels more final. He doesn't bother to look up as the class slowly quiets to something resembling a humming beehive.
"Good afternoon," The professor begins. He hears the door open, and knows someone is trying to be careful as they slip in late. They sit down at the end of his row. He doesn't see them but he knows they're there. He can feel their presence like gentle heat and curiosity. He's too tired to look.
"Today were focusing on the executive functions and how their damage can affect our psychology."
Percy drifts in and out of focus as the professor drones on, mentioning memory and attention and dementia and recall. Words float around in his head. He can't catch any of them. He should probably try. He doesn't.
"Can anyone tell me why we can sometimes encode things but then not recall them?"
Hands go up all over the room. He knows the answer but since so many others do, it doesn't matter if he puts his hand up.
"Yes, in the green shirt, with the blonde hair." The professor calls.
"It may be because the retrieval methods we're trying to use may not work for that type of information or—"
Percy freezes in time. He goes back to the dinosaurs. He goes forward to the end. He becomes the entirety of the present itself.
Slowly, every so slowly he turns his head. And there, his row partner several seats away, in an emerald green shirt and golden hair swept into something resembling angelic, is Jason Grace.
He sputters, chokes on his disbelief, the shock tightens around his lungs.
The blonde finishes his answer and then turns to look directly at Percy. And everything in that lecture hall becomes mist.
There is no-one around them, there is nothing. There is only grey and flashes of lightning and the distant sound of an ocean.
"Hello baby," Jason whispers, floating towards him, setting himself down on his table.
"You're here." This can't be real. This is Hera playing tricks. This is his mind finally too exhausted to keep the disillusion at bay. This is not real.
And hand, warm and gentle, cups Percy's cheek. And he knows nothing has ever been more real in his life.
"You're here." He whispers, he can't say it enough. "Why are you here? You aren’t supposed to be here till next week."
Jason presses their foreheads together, somewhere around them lightning strikes. It mirrors in those blue eyes. "You were getting bad again."
He always knows. He always knows. Three thousand miles apart and he knows.
"I wasn't." Percy shakes his head, hands finding indents on strong thighs. "I was just missing you."
"Your eyes are dark, like undergrowth, like dying seaweed." Those slim fingers cup his jaw, tilting his head from side to side. "Where are the oceans that live there?“
"The nightmares," He sighs, "They're bad."
"How long?" The question is simple but it makes Percy's heart screech to a stop.
"Four weeks."
"Oh baby," Jason's eyes shatter, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"There's nothing we can do." His shoulders are shaking, he doesn't quite know if he's crying, he wouldn't be surprised. "But you're here and right now that's all that matters."
"Let's leave for a little while." Jason whispers into his skin.
"Where?"
"You and your mom still have that cabin in Montauk?"
He nods, breathing in the scent of fresh rain and jasmine soap. The scent of his boyfriend. The scent of safety.
"Lets go there." The blonde is saying. "We'll come back the day before your birthday so you can spend it with the family, but let's escape before that."
“Okay," He doesn't even hesitate.
"Really, you'll go?" Jason squeezes his shoulder, excitement shining in his eyes.
"Anywhere in the world as long as its with you." He kisses his boyfriend. Soft and sweet and thank you spread across their tongues.
"Want to finish this lecture?" The blonde mumbles against his mouth.
Percy snorts, already shoving stationery into his bag. "Let's have an adventure, Jason Grace."
"Let's."
They escape through the haze, horses already forming from storms itself, and become everything the world has to offer.
And when the mist in the lecture room clears there's a single row empty and a new engraving in the wooden table.
Our love is not daisies it is entire gardens.
Dear diary,
he loves me
Now.

Hadestober 5
5) Song As Long as Time - Hades loves his wife, always and forever. And therein lies the rub. (T; mentions of Persephone’s drug/alcohol abuse)
A man chooses his wife carefully, and that goes double for the immortal type. Least Hades had always thought so.
Hades was the last of his siblings to settle – well, the last of the ones liable to settle. He’d had plenty of time to see all the ways it could go bad. Had gone bad. Thought he could avoid the pitfalls. Married a pretty young thing, smart as a whip and just as mean, and he liked them pretty and young and mean. Kept his head down, kept her needs sated, and kept her fingers drenched in diamonds.
And still, he has fallen. Ain’t no doubt about it. One look at his wife today—every day—tells him this much.
Here is his wife, settling into her seat on the veranda, looking slightly sauced. Her first priority, of course, is setting down the two liquor bottles she’s carried from who knows where. He’s tried to get rid of the juice, but she’s outwitted him in where she hides it. And it used to be just one, but was a time when he wasn’t getting enough out of the bottle to fill his cup before she’d drunk it all, so now there’s the two and the little flask she’s taken to keeping at her breast aside. (Times is, a man feels like that flask is meant specifically to block his affections, for it caresses her heart more than he himself does.)
He tries to remember, settling down to games with his wife: has this ever worked out well? Marriage in his kind? He thinks: there’s sister Hera, of course, more devoted than almost any of the rest of them and therefore always chasing her husband, while her husband goes chasing everything that lives and breathes. Further back: mama Rhea handed them the means to seize the production of Mount Olympus, not that Hades got much of that beyond the satisfaction of seeing his father cast down to Tartarus; before that even, well, there’s his grandma, cutting a bit off of grandpa when he wanted a bit of comfort one time too many.
Always swore he wouldn’t be one of them, one of the ones whose marriage turned to salt. Had meant it when he married. He had put aside the thought of the thought of having anyone else share his bed or his life beyond this one girl; this one, precious girl. Put a lot of work into this marriage, Mr. Hades has.  And she, too, has tried: she’s stayed true to him, shares at least six months out of every twelve which is less than he wants but more than he is, strictly speaking, obligated to. Sleeps in his bed, most nights, long as she ain’t passed out somewhere else. Still comes to play dominoes at any time in which he asks.
So why does he feel so alone?
His wife flutters her fan; hot down here. Doubtless she’ll complain about the heat or the lights in a moment or two, even though she’d always loved those slick, bright summer days best, back in their courtship. Seems to hate it now, but then she’d loved him too, then, and no longer seems to hold him so sacred to her heart.
“Bright down here,” His wife grouses, right on time. The usual complaint, where once she would have said hello or I missed you or Ain’t you a sight for these sore eyes or some such. He gives her a thin, tired smile, doesn’t offer a word.  What can he do? They have had this argument so many times and she has never changed her opinion even once, no matter how many times a man has pointed out the reasons for the heat: his forges, his fires, his business. She profits just as much from it. Where does her ever-consumptive need for alcohol get sated, if not in his coffers?
She doesn’t say anything in response to his silence, but she starts her drink. He takes note of it: glug, glug, glug. Downs it all in one drop. His wife has always been a thirsty thing; time was, she was thirsty to know him, too. Was a time when the world was young, and she made him feel young, too.
He holds out his cup, wordlessly begging for a bit of her fruit of their vine. He hates that their relationship has come to this: this is the nicest she ever is to him, anymore, smiling lightly as she tipples a little bit of her poison his her cup. Pours herself a second, arranges the game. Smiles again, and again maybe he hopes just a bit, just a bit.
“Thank you,” he says, hoping he’ll be lucky and it might make her smile a little bit more.
“Hades,” she says. Then, unexpected: her face cracks into that desperately wanted smile, and his heart beats faster. He dares to hope.
“Yes?” He says. He likes it when she says his name. Never was a god who turned down a bit of worship in having their name called so very sweetly like, and Hades himself ain’t no exception.
She looks at him, puts down a domino. He pairs it with another, pair of sevens; lucky. Does feel lucky. What he wouldn’t give for her to reach out her hand. He stretches out his fingers.
She picks up the drink instead. Sucks a little bit of it down, not a lot. She trying to get up the courage to make a move toward him? Who knows.
Was a time he knew her well. But that time is not now. Which makes it all the more painful that he still loves her more than anything else; loves her with all his ancient heart beating. She doesn’t even look at him, just licks the rim of her glass.  “Hm.” She giggles. “Hmm."
"Careful,” he says, knowing it might well provoke a negative reaction but what is a man to do? Can’t just let her go to the drink, can he? Wouldn’t be a good husband if he doesn’t try, surely? She snorts, plays another play: 7-7-7, straight up to heaven. She’ll be going back up above soon enough, spring ain’t that fair away. His mouth hardens at the thought.
“Hades,” she says, again, this time more playful. She touches his hand; then, she giggles and touches it again, and again. His smile vanishes. His wife is on something. And nothing good.
“What are you doing?” He asks.
She takes a long sip of her drink. Plays a 4. Plenty of cultures, that’s his sign; here, he doesn’t think about it. Focused totally on her, on the wife who he loves more than anything.
She just giggles, apropos of nothing. At nothing. Persephone is staring at the fucking wall like it’s a riot, and she’s so studiously not looking at him, he’d almost think it was on purpose.
“Hades,” she says, again. “Hades."
"What are you on?” He asks, as realization dawns: this is not drunkenness. This is - this is something else. And whatever she is on, whatever poison pill or plant or vapor she’s found, she must have taken it right before she got to him. She must have had to have it to get herself to go to the old man, her old ball and chain, and when did he get demoted to such? He has tried so hard. He stands, crosses the table, tugs her up. He wants to strangle her. He wants to hold her close and sob deeply into her until she is fully drenched in his sorrows.
He is deeply, deeply afraid of both feelings.
She doesn’t protest much when he grabs her, which worries him more. She tucks her hands onto his chest, pauses at his heavy old heart. He wonders: Does she know? Know how it beats for love for her? How it always has. How it always will. Does it even matter to her, anymore?
He does not know.
“Persephone,” he murmurs. “What’s gotten into you?"
"Just some good-time stuff,” she says soft. “Wanna relax.” Her pupils are large, so large; how had he not noticed? Stupid. He hates her ingesting the stupid human poisons. It scares him as she rubs her cheek against his own, and he does not know if its because he hates the thought of something else having her attention, or the thought that such things may harm her, or the thought that she cannot stand him even so much as to greet him even remotely sober.
But because he loves her so much, he does not resist when she rubs her chin against his throat, seeking contact. It is the closest they have been since the train ride, where her knees brushed his own.
“Hades,” she murmurs; she is still giggling, though he himself is not at all amused. But she is not entirely here, no? Not at all.
He pulls his large arms around her, wraps them tight, and tries to remember a garden long ago. She puts her arms around his neck, holds him as tight as he holds her.
But instead of feeling reassured, all he feels the pain of that flask, poking him right in the heart.

Epilogue!
Here it is, the last part of this fic. And here is a sappy note from the author: Thank you all so, so much for reading my first-ever fanfic I’ve posted here! As I said in the very first parts, the hardest part of writing (for me) is posting what I write! To publish your art (written or drawn or sung, etc) is to show a part of yourself to the world and it is intimidating. The support you readers have given me has encouraged me to finish (me? finishing something?) this fic and has inspired me to keep posting my writing on here! Thanks a million for joining me on this trainwreck of a fanfiction.
Premise/last time (my last synopsis? AH!): Orpheus’s song succeeds. Hermes’s prophecy is fulfilled when Orpheus discovers his new immortality, at the hand of Hades. Persephone is allowed to choose where she spends her time, in Hadestown or up above. Eurydice and Orpheus look forward to their future, a lot longer than they had expected. Achilles and Patroclus are given a second chance at life and guaranteed a spot in Elysium. Hyacinthus stays with Apollo. Hermes is unemployed and tired but at least his son is alive.
It hadn’t taken Orpheus and Eurydice more than a minute to decide they wanted to go home. The Olympians had murmured amongst themselves. Gods, they had said, who do not have any desire to remain on Olympus? Sure, it wasn’t unheard of to live away from the city. But to visit only for hours? That wasn’t common.
Hermes had understood in an instant. They had come to plead for their lives and they’d left with much more than they’d bargained for. They longed for normalcy. They’d said their good-byes to Apollo and Hyacinthus, shining with his newfound immortality. The journey home had felt short, Hermes had been half-conscious for most of it. Persephone and Hestia helped him down the ramp, leaving Olympus behind him.
The train ride had been silent. Orpheus and Eurydice had sat side by side, hand in hand, never looking away from his bedside.
The flowers in the meadow turned their heads to Orpheus, God of Song, as he passed, though no notes touched his lips. Persephone helped Hermes inside and they’d slept.
When he’d finally woken, Hermes found Orpheus and Eurydice outside his window, laying together in the meadow. They sat beneath a tree and Orpheus strummed his lyre, humming the notes of a new song, flowers blooming around him, warm raindrops against his cheeks. Hermes watched them from his bed, to weary to stand.
The sun, perhaps curious at the sound of Orpheus’s music burned off the clouds and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Eurydice was the first to notice. It was a novel sight after years without a spring. She pointed it out to Orpheus, who watched it, wide-eyed, and then switched to singing about the colors above him.
...
Today, almost exactly a year after their original return, Orpheus and Eurydice would be married, in the light of spring. Orpheus stands beside his wife, sipping a glass of nectar. Eurydice frantically adjusts her veil. Orpheus sets down his drink and takes her hands in his. “Hey. You look great, love. What’s wrong?” he asks her.
“It’s just... we never could’ve done this before...” she sighs. “We could never have paid for all this. And now...”
“We won’t lose it this time,” he promises.
“I know. It’s hard to forget that we did once.”
He nods in understanding. “Let’s enjoy it while we can, lover. Sure, winter will be cold, summer will be hot, but it’s spring now!” He places his hands on her waist and sways back and forth. Eurydice smiles. She grabs his hands and spins him under her arms.
“It’s spring,” she agrees.
The guest list looks exactly as they’d agreed it would on the first train ride home. Hermes received the first invitation, as he still lived with the soon-to-be newlyweds. Persephone, residing nearby with her mother and son, received the second. Hyacinthus and Apollo were in attendance, and Achilles and Patroclus. Hera had blessed the wedding and Aphrodite had agreed wholeheartedly. In some stroke of madness or courage, Orpheus had sent a letter to Hades, inviting him to stop by. He hadn’t received a reply.
Written inside the cards was indeed Eurydice’s poem, to which she had objected after the letters had been sent. Still, she’d slept with a copy of the invitation under her pillow for months.
The set-up had been easy enough. A few notes of coaxing and, as promised, the trees had laid their wedding tables. Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, had given them a wedding arch of pure light. Persephone and Demeter had provided a feast and Hermes had delivered most of their invitations.
Apollo walks Orpheus down the isle. He trembles with anxiety. Hermes hands Eurydice off to him and he clutches her hand, beneath their arch of light. “I’m gonna forget what I’m supposed to say,” he whispers.
She squeezes his hand. “Orpheus, you aren’t gonna forget.” He nods, hoping she’s right.
And she is, of course. “I can’t promise you fair sky above,” he vows, “Can’t promise you kind road below. But I’ll walk beside you, love. Any way the wind blows. Walk beside me.”
“Any way the wind blows,” she swears. “I will.”
Their kiss is long and filled with love. Eurydice’s fingertips brush against the thin scar across her lover’s palm. The tiny gash that had decided their forever.
The rest of the night is marked by music. Apollo is supposed to be the one performing, but Orpheus can’t help himself. Eurydice joins in, singing beside him, and soon the crowd is cheering for the newlyweds’ song. If Apollo is jealous, he doesn’t show it.
At Orpheus’s allowance, he leaves his position on stage and spins out a beautiful dance with Hyacinthus. Apollo notices his lover has grown his hair out. He has it tied back in a wreath of purple hyacinths, revealing the gash over his eye, the mark of his death he’d always kept so desperately hidden. Apollo brushes his finger over the scar. Hyacinthus looks away. “Hey, I like it,” Apollo says.
“I wasn’t sure about it. I... I used to wear my hair like this. You know... before? I thought maybe-”
“I love it.” Apollo silences him with a kiss.
The wedding celebrations carry on long into the night. Hermes looks on as Eurydice and Orpheus share their final dance of the day. Somehow, by some miracle, their tale had turned out this time.
“Hermes,” Orpheus takes a seat beside him, as Eurydice prepares a snack inside. “Thank you. Thank you for everything.”
Hermes pulls his son into his arms. “I wish I could’ve done more,” he says. He opens Orpheus’s palm, examining his scar. “I wish it every day.”
Orpheus shakes his head. “You couldn’t have done more. I couldn’t have asked for a better father. You saved my life. Endured Hades’s wrath in my place.”
“And you saved me in turn. I couldn’t have asked for a better son.”
“I wish... you hadn’t gone through so much for me,” Orpheus whispers
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Orpheus,” he says, honestly. They sit in silence for a moment.
“Do you still feel it?” Orpheus asks, suddenly.
Hermes narrows his eyes. “What?”
“His wrath.”
“Do you?” Hermes inquires.
“I never felt it the way you did. It would always... end. A few seconds of agony and it would all be over,” he says.
“That’s not an answer.”
He hesitates a moment. “I do,” Orpheus admits. “Aches and pains, bad dreams, however it manifests, I can always tell.”
Hermes nods his sympathy. “I understand.”
“You were worse. You... you were asleep for days, weakened for weeks. And when you woke... you looked older, so tired. I was afraid for you,” Orpheus tells him.
“Finding you in that cell, Orpheus... that’s how I felt. I wish I could take all of that pain away from you,” Hermes says.
“I’ll manage,” Orpheus promises. “However long it takes.”
“I know you will.”
Eurydice returns with a plate of fruit and glasses of nectar. She hands one to her husband and the other to her father-in-law. “Happy zero-th anniversary, Orpheus!”
He blushes a deep gold. “We’re married!” He remembers. “It still hasn’t sunk in yet!”
Eurydice looks up at the full moon overhead. The scent of cherry blossom is on the air. She sits beside Orpheus and rests her head on his shoulder. “I’m glad we’re here,” she tells him, softly.
“I am too.”
————————————————————-
Achilles and Patroclus established their residence in the countryside. In thanks for their protection of her daughter, Demeter provided bountiful harvests, year after year. They sat beneath their fig orchard and watched the stars, rejecting offers of glory in trade for the peace and quiet they longed for.
Decades passed and like all good things, their quiet lives came to an end. Achilles was the first to return to Hadestown. He fell ill in late winter. Patroclus never once left his side, providing food and drink and finally strong medicine until his lover breathed his final breath.
Patroclus watched the pyre go up in flames. He collected the ashes in a golden urn, half filled. His nights were cold and lonely and the harvest felt tedious. He watched the stars alone each night, just as he had promised he would. Finally, his time came.
...
He wakes, feeling unrefreshed. He pulls the cover back over himself and closes his eyes again. “Patroclus,” voice from behind him calls. A dream, he knows. He’d had plenty before. He shuts his eyes tighter.
“Patroclus,” Achilles says again. “Mind looking at me? It’s been a while. I missed you.”
Patroclus rolls over. His lover stands before him, young and healthy in a small bedroom. “Achilles?” he mutters. “This isn’t real.”
He prepares to turn away. Achilles takes his hand. His eyes widen at the touch. “No, Patroclus. You’re here!”
“Where ‘here’? Achilles, what is this?” he asks.
“Welcome to Elysium!” Achilles exclaims, taking a seat beside him. “Hades kept his promise.”
Patroclus blinks. “I’m... dead?”
Achilles nods. “Yes. Now we get to stay here. For real this time. I made Hades swear it, on the River Styx.” He brushes the hair out of Patroclus’s eyes. “If you’d like, I can show you around, but I’d rather you rest first. Dying is tiring work.”
Patroclus sits upright. “Achilles... I missed you.”
“I missed you too. I was afraid when Persephone brought you in that something was wrong. She told me that it was common, for shades who died in their sleep to stay asleep for days, even weeks,” he explains. “It wasn’t particularly comforting. I’m glad you’re awake.”
“I didn’t have coins to cross the Styx!” Patroclus realizes.
“I paid your fare.”
“What? How? You weren’t on the banks with me.”
Achilles shrugs. “Persephone told me she’d seen you so I worked on the factory assembly lines for a few days until I could afford to bring you over. I bet she would’ve done it anyway if I hadn’t scrounged together the change.”
“Thank you,” he says, gratefully.
“It wasn’t too bad. I hadn’t worked for years. Kind of refreshing, honestly.”
“Years?” Patroclus asks, alarmed.
“No one in Elysium works all that often. In the rest of Hadestown, most shades work part-time, with two weeks’ vacation to Elysium annually, plus weekends,” Achilles says. “And... oh, I shouldn’t tell you until you’re ready to see for yourself.”
“I’m fine,” Patroclus insists. “Please tell me.”
“The sky. It’s not the overworld, but it has its own beauty. It’s quite impressive, and it isn’t even finished. I guess if you’d like we could-”
“Yes!” Patroclus exclaims. “I watched the stars. Every night. It wasn’t the same without you, my love.”
Achilles helps him to his feet and guides him through the house. Through the door of their cozy bedroom, down a short hallway, they step down a flight of stairs and out the front door. It opens to a landscape of rolling hills under otherworldly green lights. The stars are swirls in the sky, illuminated in strange colors. “Stars?” he whispers in awe.
“Hades stopped trying to recreate the overworld. He made it... something else. It worked, clearly. Come, sit.” He shows Patroclus to a well-used patch of grass beneath a fruit tree and lowers his lover to the ground.
Patroclus twirls a blade of grass between his fingers. “This is real,” he observes.
“Orpheus’s song does reach down here. And Persephone keeps everything growing, especially this time of year, springtime in the underground. When she’s with Hades, it’s like summer. Underworld summer. Patroclus, I know it’s not what you’re used to, but it really is-”
“It’s incredible.” Patroclus’s lips touch Achilles’s and neither man pulls away, not for an eternity.
----(Decades prior to the deaths of Achilles and Patroclus)----
It had taken Persephone over two years to make her decision. She’d felt bad to keep her husband waiting all this time, but living up on top was bliss after all those long winters. It was summer of the third year when she finally returned.
...
Hermes arrives at her new residence, this one closer to Hadestown, looking awful. For a moment she fears the worst. That her husband had torn up the world all over again. But what he tells her is more frightening.
“Persephone, this summer’s been too long,” he announces. “Orpheus is powerful, but not this good. He’s been singing day and night to keep the weather in check. Singing for months There’s a spring and a fall and a winter, but it won’t last long. Next year, I’m afraid the crops will burn or-”
Horror fills her. “Is he alright?” She asks. “I knew it was getting hotter, but I never thought...”
Hermes sighs. “I’ve seen worse. But it’s wearing on him. He’s too tired to get out of bed these days. Eurydice’s there to help, of course, but he can’t do this forever, Seph. Not even a god can remain eternally awake.”
“I’ll go,” she agrees.
He shakes his head. “That’s not what I’m asking. Your mother can control the seasons. With her help-”
“No, I’m leaving. I’ve made my choice. Tell your poor boy I’ll come by one last time. Let him stop singing.”
Hermes accepts this. They walk up the railroad track in silence.
He gently opens the door of his and Orpheus’s residence. He hears Eurydice, giving words of encouragement.
“It’s been months,” Orpheus says, his voice raspy with strain. “I dunno how long I can stay up. Even gods sleep.”
“I know, lover. But you’ve done so well. Don’t give up now.”
“I won’t,” he promises. “Just... a few more weeks, right? No,” he corrects himself, “Months. It’ll be fall soon. Then winter, then spring.”
“Spring is break time.”
“I know. It’s only... it’s two seasons away.”
Hermes hears her miserable sigh. “You’ve been brave, Orpheus, to keep fighting.”
“I love you,” he says.
“I know.”
He gives a little yelp of pain.
“Sorry. I should’ve changed these hours ago.”
Hermes opens the door. Orpheus looks up from his bloodied fingers. He smiles. “Hey Hermes! I’m sorry, I have nothing for us to eat. The song stopped producing a few days ago and I’m struggling with the lyre now that my fingers... well... It’ll be harvest soon. It won’t be ambrosia, but it’ll have to do.”
“No.” Persephone sits beside him. “It won’t have to do. We can fix this. I’m going back to Hadestown. I won’t be long. Spring always returns.”
“You don’t have to do this!” Orpheus exclaims, “My song will be enough until it’s spring again. Don’t go back. Please.”
“I miss him, Orpheus. I do. I’m going... home.” It feels strange to call Hadestown ‘home’. It was most often known to Persephone as ‘hell on earth.’
“Only if this is what you want, Persephone,” he says.
“I do. Please get some rest. Starting now.”
He smiles wearily as he leans back against his pillows. “Thank you.”
“I love you, kiddo. I’ll see you when you bring back the springtime next year,” she promises.
He gives a little nod and he’s asleep, almost the second his head hits the pillow.
Hermes helps Persephone onto the train. Charon drives now, rather than himself. “Take care of Orpheus for me, will you? And give this to Dionysus.” She hands him a envelope. “He can come visit whenever he likes.”
“I will. If you need anything, just send a message.”
“See ya next spring!” She waves as the train pulls out of the station.
...
She remembers Orpheus, almost lifeless, collapsed in a booth just like the one she sits in now. Only three years. It feels like a century. How much he’s been through, she thinks. How much he’s changed. He isn’t the young man who’d collapsed at her feet in Hades’s throne room all those years ago. She has no doubt in her mind that he would’ve sung ‘til spring if she hadn’t gone.
The routine of the train ride is something of a comfort. She watches the scenery fly by outside her window. Green fields, nearly ripe for harvest. All thanks to Orpheus.
The train grinds to a halt. She steps into Hadestown, beyond the wall for the first time in so long. Bluish lights illuminate the stone walls of the city from above. The shadows cast by the buildings aren’t so harsh as they had once been. She raises an eyebrow.
She follows the streets down into the heart of Hadestown, hell on Earth. A young couple passes her, hand in hand.
“Hey, miss?” A woman calls. She turns. “I haven’t seen you around. Are you new here?” the girl asks.
“I- no. Not really.” Persephone looks up at the city skyline. Her husband’a tower is no where in sight. “Where’s the tower?”
“The tower?” The woman looks confused for a second. “Oh yeah! I’ve heard the stories! They took it down during the revolution. You want a glass of wine, miss? If not, the bar’s always open if-”
“Hush,” Persephone cuts her off. “If we’re discovered, there won’t be anywhere left.”
The woman’s brow furrows. “Discovered by who? Mister Hades frequents our establishment.”
“We can’t be talking about the same man,” she says, astounded.
“You sure you don’t want a drink? I’m new here, so maybe someone will know more than me.”
Persephone nods, numbly. The woman leads her down the same street she’d walked a hundred times. Instead of a thin, secluded allyway, the entrance to her old bar is well-lit and wide open. It’s exterior is painted with a mural of carnations. She steps inside and is recognized almost instantly.
“Lady Persephone!” The bartender calls. “We’ve missed you down here!”
“Ampelos,” she recognizes the young man, a lover of her son, Dionysus, and the best bartender around. “It’s been a while.”
“That it has! We didn’t think you’d come back!”
“Yet here I am. Where’s the tower, my friend? Or the throne hall, I suppose.” She inquires. “I should find my husband.”
“I’m sure Hades will stop by soon enough. Dionysus’s spring wine.” He hands her a glass. “Hades kept the recipe.”
“There’s no vineyards down below,” she corrects him. “How much are you smuggling?”
“None.” He shrugs. “Orpheus’s song changed a lot.”
“Did my husband put you up to this?”
“No,” he answers. “It’s been different since the revolution. We’re still rebuilding, so there’s plenty to do, but having our memories back is nice. So are the shorter shifts. Five day weeks, nine-to-four. The weekends, we do as we like and our two weeks’ annual vacation time can be spent whenever we please. Pay isn’t half bad, though we’re campaigning for more currently, hence the flower. It’s the symbol of our revolution.”
She blinks in disbelief. “Funny.”
“No, I’m not joking,” he protests. “Things have changed.”
Persephone shakes her head. “Not Hades. Hades is unmovable. He gave us a chance because that song made him soft. Nothing more.”
“You’re wrong. He didn’t come this far alone, true. It took a lot of willpower and good minds to convince him to let go of his iron grip on Hadestown, but we did it,” he explains.
The bell chimes at the door. Persephone freezes in fear at the sight of her husband. She’d dreamt it a hundred times, that he’d take away her last safe haven. “Hades,” she pleads.
He stares at her. “Persephone?” He waits for someone to laugh, tell him it had all been a joke. No one does. He moves closer. He doesn’t dare to touch her. He sees her eyes well with tears. “A glass of wine, Ampelos,” he commands.
Her lips part. “You know him?”
Ampelos shrugs. “Like I said. He’s a regular.”
“Hades...”
He cracks a smile. “I suppose I do drink more than I once did. I hoped you wouldn’t judge, Seph- sorry, Persephone,” he corrects himself.
She takes his hands. “Hades... you let us go. You let them go. It’s true?”
He nods. “I promised you change.”
“I didn’t think...”
“I don’t blame you. Persephone... why did you return?”
“The weather became hotter and hotter the longer I stayed. I couldn’t let the world die for me,” she says. “And Hades? I... I missed you.
“You made your choice?” His voice hasn’t lost its old commanding tone.
She closes her eyes and exhales. “I have. I made a promise too. I told them up on the surface I’d be back by spring.”
“I told you I wouldn’t keep you here,” he says, almost irritated. “But I understand your doubts.” Hades sips his wine.
“I’ll stay,” she promises.
“For me or for them?”
“I don’t know yet,” she admits.
He nods. “Will you walk with me?”
Persephone takes his hand and leaves the bar behind her. The streets are cleaner, the air is easier on her lungs. The city is lit by beams of blue light, dazzling the buildings in colorful rays. Carnations are painted on some of the walls, leftover from the riots. “I stopped trying to make it look like it does up above,” Hades informs her.
“I noticed.”
“Do you like it?” He stops to ask her.
“Yes.”
“The shades seem to prefer it too,” he adds.
“They’re happy, Hades,” she tells him.
“I feared they only kept up the ruse around me to save their skins.”
“No. It’s genuine. They smile. They laugh. I never thought I’d see the day,” she remarks.
They continue walking, past the crumbled remains of factories and newly opened restaurants. “Where are we going, Hades?” Persephone finally asks.
He shrugs. “Where do you want to go?”
She’s surprised at her own request. “Home,” she says.
“It’s gone,” he responds, bluntly. “The tower fell before I returned.”
“Then take me to wherever you’re staying.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?” she asks.
“I have no home. I held off. You were never happy in the tower. I wanted you to choose where we should reside.”
“I don’t understand,” Persephone says. “You don’t have a home on the surface. You live here year round. Why should my six months matter more than your twelve?”
“You’re my wife.”
“And I’m telling you to pick a place. So do it.”
He guides her down the street in silence, away from the center of town. She recognizes the route he’s taking, remembers the last time she’d come this way. It had been no leisurely stroll then. She instinctively reaches for her pocket, retracting her hand when she remembers she’d left her flask on the surface.
The tightly packed streets open to an empty field, a single dilapidated building at the far edge. Persephone carefully steps over the glass ruins of her now-fallen greenhouses. She rests her hand upon the door of the last building that stands. She exhales and pushes it open.
The scent of flowers strikes her. Her jaw drops. The garden blooms before her, as if she’s on the surface. As if the vines cannot tell that the sun is a million miles out of reach.
“Hades...” she whispers, rapt.
“It will improve in your care,” he says.
“You did this?”
“I did my best,” he tells her, modestly. “Orpheus’s song does reach us.” He pinches a dead leaf between his fingers. “But it’s been quiet lately.”
She takes a seat on a bench in the center of the garden and pats the spot beside her. Hades joins her. “Last time I was here, I used these vines to strangle the man you sent to attack me,” she reminds him. “After he shot Orpheus, that is. I was too late. As always,” she scoffs. Hades says nothing. “No, you look at me, husband.” He turns towards her. “You’re trying. But it ain’t easy to forgive.”
He nods in quiet understanding. “What happened to him once I left?”
She shrugs. “Hermes could tell you more than I could. I spent time with the three of them when things got rough, just after we got home from Olympus. It took Orpheus a long time to get back on his feet, even with the help of your ambrosia.”
She sighs, remembering those long, long weeks. “He’d sleep all day and wake up screaming. Some nights, he wouldn’t speak to us; he wouldn’t tell us what was wrong. He’d just cry and cry until he lost his voice or I gave him something to knock him out. It was unbearable. But we bore it, Eurydice and I, while Hermes slept. Eventually he improved, but even now, some days are harder than others.”
“Whatever you did to him, it never went away,” she accuses him. “The same for Hermes. You couldn’t tell by looking at them, not anymore. But sometimes... sometimes I know it wears on them.”
Hades stares at the vines at his feet. “I would take it all back if I could,” he says, quietly.
“I know you would. I wish I could relieve their burdens, more than you know.”
“You have burdens of your own,” he reminds her. “The weight of their strife is mine to carry.”
She wonders if he wants her to refute him. “Yes, it is,” she simply agrees. “No amount of apologies, no amount of reform will ever take away that pain.” She stands and turns her back on him.
He reaches for her hand. She lets him take it. “I know. I’m not asking you to forgive. I know you cannot forget. But we have another chance, Persephone.”
“I don’t know what I want, Hades.”
“I’ll wait for you,” he promises.

UGHHHGHGH. I keep thinking of Hades angst and yo,,I remember a screenshot from Astraeus route and I think it had Hades holding his scythe (from his Reaper) to MCs neck or something?? OR MAYBE I LIKE,,IMAGINED THAT??? But like,,imagine if that happened...
AND BTW THIS IS SUPER LONG IM SO SORRY JFEWFB.
MC doesn’t want to be Hera. She begs for anything else to happen to her. She’s lost, scared, in despair, and she needs a way out. And Hades knows this. Not just because she doesn’t want to die, but because like I headcannon, when a god takes over, you basically have to be in this abyss and watch what happens, ya know?? And honestly that IS terrifying, it makes sense for her to not want to be there. ESPECIALLY FOR ETERNITY?!?!?!? THAT WOULD BE HELL ITSELF!! AND SHE TELLS HADES THAT!!
So...she goes to him and begs him for a way out. And like...he has tried hard. He has taken the route in his own route (where he’s fought for her with everything) and it’s still not enough. They’re gonna make sure she becomes Hera, no questions, and they’re both scared. And MC has an idea and so does Hades, and neither of them like it. She basically asks him to kill her...And like my mind was like “NO!!!” And that screenshot came to mind (unless its fake and I hallucinated it-) and I was so sad because...in this AU he would. She’d beg and say how she’d rather die at his hands than the other Gods hands. Wants the last thing she sees to be her fiancée. Even if its a sad look, he’s still there. And that’s what she wants. She doesn’t want to be separated, to see him from afar, to see him suffer knowing he won’t hear her last words.
Which would be “I love you.”
But she will not die at the hands of all the Gods. Part of MC thinks its to spite the Gods and say how they cant control her, another part is fear. And there’s a little part of hope in there, right in her chest, small but bright, hoping that she’ll find her way to him. She’ll be able to hold him again, see his purple eyes look at her with all the love in the world, and see everyone again. Well,,,everyone immortal. And she’s reminded of everyone. Hades sneaks Alex, May, Josh, the boys, and Aphrodite to see her. She tells them what she plans to do. Obviously, none of them like it. They hate it and suggest everything else, but MC can’t change her mind. She will not risk the chance of her keeping Heras power OR being stuck in an abyss forever. Just the mention of the idea makes everyone cringe because she’s right...that IS a hell. So...they spend one last night with her. They keep it quiet, watch a movie, talk, tell her what they all want to tell her.
Especially ALEX!! ALEXXX!!! They’re scared to tell her. They know they will be denied and afraid to ruin everything at this last moment, but they need to tell her. So, they do. They tell her everything on their heart and she listens with surprised eyes. She was oblivious to this. She thinks its because she hasn’t been relaxed with them in a long time, so she never noticed, but now that it’s in front of her face...she realizes tHAT YEAH ALEX DOES LOVE HER AND HAS SHOWN IT BIJFBKF. And she smiles and “C” comes out of her mouth before she cuts herself off.
They’re not Cyprin here.
They’re Alex.
That’s who they have been to her all the time, and she smiles and pulls them into a hug. “Thank you, Alex. I love you too, I hope you know that Alex. Maybe not the same way, but you are my best friend, Alex. I love you, too.” She said Alex so many times, as if she was learning their name for the first time again. It makes them happy to hear it come from her lips again, and everyone loves the sweet moment. And Cerberus and his brothers give her hugs and Cerberus gets his aura out to cheer her up and keep things happy for a bit. Josh shares funny stories of cooking, his mishaps, and everything! Aphrodite tells her own stories, BASICALLY EVERYONE SHARES SOME WHOLESOME STORIES. EVEN MC!! SHARING HER FEELINGS OF EVERYONE AND HOW SHE LOVES THEMMM ALL!!!
And when everything is said and done, its about 6 am, and the Gods are coming for her. They’re coming to take her to the throne room, but no.
They won’t get her.
They can’t.
Everyone leaves them alone, but they all give her a kiss on the cheek or forehead and a TIGHT hug because they will miss her. THEY WILL!! And May and Josh basically threaten that she better know that. She knows that and promises that she’ll be watching them from the afterlife and it makes them all cry harder, but they leave and its just Hades and MC. However, to be NSFW real quick, they ‘get together’ before it happens bc honestly,,,idk thats just where my mind went lol. AND THEN,, THE TIME HAS COME,, HE HAS TO KILL HER BECAUSE HE PROMISED HER!! He calls upon his Aura and MC notices the sad look on the Reaper and she gives them both one last smile. The Scythe is at her neck and Hades’ tears streak down his face as she closes her eyes and takes her final breath. He was holding her hand and the grip was tight, and it went limp (Idk what he’d do necessarily?? Just uses the scythe to take her soul). She was falling to the ground but he caught her instantly and held her to him as he cried on the floor. What would he tell the Gods? What would he do? What will he do without her? He has his friends and everyone to back up that she wanted this...but still.
What will he do without her? Who will be the light to his shadows?
Zeus and Poseidon come through his door (not even knocking), and they call out for Hades, but they speed up when they hear Hades sobs. They come to the main room (idk I assume the door is a littles away from the main room like the living room) and they see Hades clutching MCs body to him. There’s no blood, no struggle, nothing. Just him holding the love of HIS LIFE in his arms, knowing he just ended the life of someone he loves once again...
Zeus and Poseidon just stand there for a second. Hades refuses to look them in the eye, cant look at them, and just looks at his lover...the one he loves so much...But he can’t avoid it forever. He looks up at his brothers and Zeus is furious and Poseidon is sad. Zeus is so close to attacking him, but Poseidon grabs his arm with a TIGHT grip. Poseidon isn’t even looking at anyone, just at the ground. “Hades...what happened?” His voice isn’t angry, it’s just sad, and worried. Zeus still can’t say a word. Hades looks back up at them.
“She...she wanted it to end.” His voice was shaky and tears still streamed down his face. “She told me...she wanted it to be me. For me to end it. Not you.” He growled the ‘you’ out. “She didn’t want to be trapped in an abyss for eternity. And it makes sense. None of us want to be trapped...”. He stops there, he can’t continue. He looks back down at her and hugs her body closer to him.
“The Reaper has taken yet another soul...” he whispers out, and his brothers hear him. This time, even Zeus is sad. He’s never seen his older brother like this (yh I found out Hades is the OLDEST FIREJBFD). This emotional and this heart broken. Or maybe he has and he just never payed attention. That makes him realize his actions and everything he’s done. Its shameful and he stares at MC as well, feeling his heart drop. And its not just because of Hera...its because she was going to be his sister-in-law (I think that’s what they are??? IDK MEG-) and that is an innocent woman. He doesn’t know how to face this (not even my Zeus knows how to face his emotions-), so he just walks to Hades and goes to sit beside him. Hades flinches away from him and his hold tightens on her for a moment, and both brothers understand why he does that. But they just sit beside him, in silence. “She asked you?”
“Yes. I would not take her life for no reason...I would NEVER even dream of it”. Poseidon hears the bite in his voice and the way its darker from his power, the power he tries to hide and not flaunt around like everyone. He just nods and it goes silent. “But at least...it wasn’t painful...”. Hades whispers it out. He knew the ritual would be painful, he knows it is. Not from experience but the ritual takes the soul apart...it’s going to hurt. He wouldn’t wish that pain on her. He would give his life, but the Gods wouldn’t accept it. Hell, he’s lucky they let him have her for one more night. The tears have stopped because they can’t continue. They always rise to the surface, but won’t drop. “I lost her...she’s gone...it’s all our faults...”. Hades made sure they all knew it was their faults. Not them but the Gods in general. They’re desperation for a Goddess who didn’t want to come back, who BEGGED to not come back, led to the death of an innocent woman. Led to a woman wanting to die. And I imagined Hades finally telling Zeus the whole truth like...it’s an emotional moment, and he feels like he should tell him.
“Zeus,” he says, his voice back to normal since he’s reigned his power back in, “Hera wanted to die. She asked me to take her, so I did. But she made me promise her to not let her come back. Never. Or maybe until she was ready, I’m not sure exactly. And when I found [MCs mothers name]...”. His breath catches at the mention of MCs mother who was also taken to early, a woman he loves as well, who was killed by the Gods. Direct or not didn’t matter. “She was Hera’s reincarnation and I...I was a little afraid. I made H.E.R.A with her and Aphrodite and I planned to tell her of her power that she held. But...I realized that I cared for her. Not in a romantic way, but she was a sister to me, I cared for her dearly, yet she was taken away from us because of US!” His voice was louder, and his eyes were shut still facing MCs body. Poseidon and Zeus flinch at his voice, not used to Hades being this angry even if they understand why he’s angry. “And I had to hold her in my arms when she died...and it moved to MC...and I fell for her, and I’ve done everything I can. But none of you wanted to think of her. Think of a woman who has done SO MUCH for us, a woman who has already suffered because. OF. US!”
When he mentioned that she had done so much for them, they were reminded of his s1 when basically everyone disappeared and was taken, yet MC was such a big factor into helping them...and they forgot that. They shouldn’t have, but they did. And it hurt them all.
AND AWAY FROM HADES TELLING ZEUS AND POSEIDON HIS STORY, they have a funeral on Earth. Even Hades will not bury her on Olympus. A part of him wants to since her mother is buried there, but he remembers Josh, May, and Alex. None of them will come to Olympus anymore, he knows it, and he won’t torture them by forcing them to come to Olympus to see her. And its all emotional. And,,,Hades tells everyone (as in her close family,,including May bc she IS family AND THE BOYS!!) that he’s sorry, but they know he did his best. Aphrodite witnessed it, and so did everyone else. And for the few years...it’s all silent. Hades attends meetings and does his work because he knows MC wants him to. MC wants him to keep living, being kind, helping people, and being Hades. But she asked him to promise her something...promise to never love another. And it was promised with NO hesitation. He loves her and no one else and he’s lucky to have had the chance to love her
ESPECIALLY AFTER KNOWING ALEX LOVES HER!! THEY’VE KNOWN HER LONGER AND HONESTLY HADES IS A LITTLE SURPRISED SHE DIDNT END UP WITH ALEX IFBHKRJEBWB. But like I said, everything is silent, emotionless. Everyone smiles from time to time, but it’s mainly quiet. Well, some of the Gods don’t care, and he honestly gets PISSED when he sees that, but he just goes back to his estate or his condo. Probably his condo since he has more memories of her there. She was never one for Olympus. It was beautiful to her, but it made her anxious, so the condo (and her apartment) was her safe place. And he goes to the fridge the day of her funeral and guess what he sees??? GUESS WHAT HE SEES??? He sees MCs baked goods. He takes them out and eats them and tastes how sweet and full of love they are. He KNOWS it will be a long time before he can taste this type of sweetness again, but he’ll happily wait 1,000 years if that’s what it took for her to come back to him. And he’ll keep his promise.
He will find his light again. He will. And maybe his light will find him. Light needs darkness after all....
UGH MEGGG!!! IM SAD!!! BUT I LOVE IT!!! LITERALLY STILL SOBBING AT THIS IDEA 😭. I JUST!!! LOVE HADES SO MUCH!!! AND HIM BEING EMOTIONAL AND STILL BE SO HARD AT UNDERSTANDING EMOTIONS IS SO AMAZING!!!! I love him and hNNNG IM SO SAD. I hope you like this and sorry its so long...
Love you 💙 💙. I’m so sad,,,but I love it and I hope you’re sad as well 😭 😭.

Title: Legends Are Told
Fandom: Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus
Characters: the seven, Nico, Reyna, various Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter campers
Tags: songfic, light angst (I guess?), hopeful-ish ending
Words: 1,032
Summary:
Heracles, Achilles, Theseus, Perseus, Jason, they all got their stories told.
They told their stories to their kids, and their kids told their kids, each time with less and less detail, until there is no story to tell.
The seven are forgotten as if they didn't save them all.
Some legends are told
Heracles, Achilles, Daphne, Perseus, Jason, they all got their stories told.
They weren't so lucky.
Some turn to dust or to gold
Percy's first monster, a Fury, and King Midas, who Jason, Piper, and Leo faced on their quest to free Hera.
They told those stories to their kids, and their kids told their kids, each time with less and less detail, until there is no story to tell. All that remains of their sacrifices is dust and ungrateful children who don't realize that the reason they have a cabin or an eagle to turn and look at is because of the bravery of Percy Jackson, of Hazel Levesque, of Annabeth Chase and Frank Zhang, and countless others.
But you will remember me
Remember me for centuries
Chiron will occasionally tell campers of their deeds. He will tell them how Percy Jackson reclaimed Zeus's lightning bolt and of how Thalia Grace stood on Half-Blood Hill, where the pine tree she was turned into after defending two other demigods from a pack of hellhounds still stands.
And just one mistake
Is all it will take
We'll go down in history
Percy actually does get into history books, as the kid who went missing, blew up the St. Louis Arch, reappeared in Los Angeles after a devastating earthquake, and claimed to have fought to get away from his kidnapper.
They still don't know what really happened.
Remember me for centuries
He's soon replaced by more interesting topics, like the first woman on Mars.
Mummified my teenage dreams
No, it's nothing wrong with me
The kids are all wrong
The story's all off
They twist the details, not giving credit to the real heroes.
It was Clarisse who slayed the drakon, not Percy or Annabeth or anybody else in the Battle of Manhattan. They don't remember her, though.
The glory is given to those who don't want it, instead of the ones who actually did it.
Heavy metal broke my heart
She dies a few years afterward. A fight with a dracaena. A sword right through the heart.
It was a death she would have wanted. An honorable one, one where she fought to defend her and her family, Chris and her daughter Silena.
Hardly anyone who didn't know her even knows that she did all that. Come on, come on and let me in
The bruises on your thighs like my fingerprints
And this is supposed to match
The darkness that you felt
No one remembers Nico and Reyna's journey through the shadows to bring the statue that now stands guard over camp and New Athens. No one remembers how he nearly faded away, lost to memories and darkness.
The strength it took, the courage, to fight them off and prevent a war is lost to time.
I never meant for you to fix yourself
And I can't stop 'til the whole world knows my name
'Cause I was only born inside my dreams
No one remembers Octavian, flawed as he was. No one remembers that although he seemed crazy, he was trying to do the best for his people, pushing for a new leader and to attack before they did. Reyna wasn't replacing Jason after months of him being missing, then they elect a kid they knew for all of two days. Then his friends bomb the city.
No one, of course, realizes this. For all that he's remembered, he remembered as a power hungry villain.
Until you die for me, as long as there's a light, my shadow's over you
'Cause I, I am the opposite of amnesia
And you're a cherry blossom
You're about to bloom
You look so pretty, but you're gone so soon
Who could forget Piper McLean, the daughter of Aphrodite strong enough to charm a primordial goddess to sleep, to make a automaton come to life.
Why should we remember? They say. She was just another weak, stuck up child of Aphrodite. Clearly someone else did it. Someone stronger, someone who could save their friends instead of someone who faints at the sight of blood.
As she cries over Jason's body, killed by a monster on his yacht, she vows never to let that happen again. She would rather die than watch someone else she loves die before her eyes.
No one bothers to remember the sacrifice she made for her younger siblings.
No one bothers to remember any of their stories.
We've been here forever
The gods, the gods could lift a finger to help them be remembered.
They don't.
They're gone so quickly, after all...
And here's the frozen proof
Khione comes after Leo one last time, freezing him before he can even notice the goddess behind him.
I could scream forever
Hazel dies screaming as her own tunnel collapses on her and Frank.
We are the poisoned youth
All demigods are. Because of who their parents are, they will live in fear for their whole life.
Annabeth and Nico both die to actual poison. Annabeth from a two headed snake bite, Nico from giving into the whispers of shadow travel.
Some legends are told
Atalanta and Theseus', yes, but not the ones about Annabeth Chase, architect of Olympus, Frank Zhang, praetor of the Twelfth Legion, or Zoe Nightshade.
Some turn to dust or to gold
Percy is the only one who dies a peaceful death, going in his sleep.
But you will remember me
Their children try to hold on, and Thalia tells everyone stories about them whenever she, Reyna and the rest of the Hunters are at camp.
Remember me for centuries
The hippocampi still hang in the Poseidon cabin.
And just one mistake
Is all it will take
We'll go down in history
Remember me for centuries
But they don't.
We'll go down in history
Remember me for centuries
One day, a camper finds ten handwritten books, in Ancient Greek and Latin, in the Big House attic. The Lightning Thief, the first one reads.
She opens the book. A picture of nine laughing teenagers falls out. She picks it up and sets it aside before turning to the first page.
Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood...

madness of hera au
Percy’s heart stopped and he fell to his knees as tears began to stream down his face. “Annabeth,” he whispered.
She rushed towards him and he wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his face in her stomach.
She gently ran her fingers through his hair while cradling his head, attempting to soothe him through his sobs.
“It’s okay, Percy. We’re okay.”
He swallowed hard and concentrated on slowing his breathing, letting her familiar smell fill his lungs and bring him the peace he had been searching for so desperately
Finally he was able to pull his face from her, while keeping her waist firmly in his grip. “Are you... I mean, is this...”
She placed her hands on either side of his face, gently stroking his cheekbones with her thumbs. “This is real, Percy. I promise.”
As he looked up at her face, he couldn’t help but mentally trace every line, comparing them to the memories he had been replaying in his head since the moment he lost her.
He found himself taking an inventory of her:
Princess curls still in tact, perfectly framing her face
Eyes still grey, though a little sadder than he remembered them
Her arm still scarred from when she had taken a knife for him
Her hands, still holding his face, as soft and gentle against his skin as he dreamed about
She was really here
She was solid under his touch, not dissipating  like the misty figure of her he chased in his sleep
She was glowing, which was definitely new, but it was faint. Just enough to notice, but nothing that couldn’t be outdone by her smile or the shine in her eyes as she looked down at him
After a few moments she pulled Percy to his feet, and he grabbed her hands from his face, instead holding them to his chest.
He wondered if she could feel his heart simultaneously thundering like the hooves of a thousand horses and coming to a complete standstill like a fish frozen in a lake
He swallowed hard, trying desperately to compose himself. “I, uh.. I made kind of a mess while you were gone. Well, made one because you were gone, really.”
She smiled, letting her hands soak in the warmth of Percy’s. “I heard. And I gotta say, restructuring an entire pantheon in my honor? Very hot.”
They laughed into each other’s mouths as they joined for a kiss, and Percy silently thanked the Fates for whatever part they played in this.
He decided then and there he would spend the rest of his life praying to whoever he needed to pray to in order for this to always be his reality
One in which Annabeth was within his grasp
When they pulled away from their kiss, foreheads resting on one another, a million questions began to race through his mind. Only one made it across his lips. “How?”
Hades, who had walked in behind Annabeth unnoticed, stepped forward then.
“Hi,” he said a bit awkwardly.
He looked younger than Percy had ever seen him, and his energy was almost giddy. “Well with those two gone, it seems a throne has opened up on Olympus and I... well, truth be told, I’m a sucker for a good love story. We don’t get too many down there. Which is why, Percy Jackson, you are the first hero to ever successfully bring back a loved one from the Underworld.”
Apollo whistled dramatically. “Orpheus is gonna be pissed.”
Hades grimaced. “Believe me, I’ve already been hearing about it. But a deal’s a deal, people! And this young man made the journey metaphorically which made it much easier to sidestep the official rules, by which I mean Persephone. So good job, kid.”
Athena stepped forward. “Of course there are still some rules we must abide by, and since you didn’t formally go down to retrieve her there were certain limits to what service Lord Hades could provide.”
“She will have to always be on or very near Olympus or Olympic protected lands, but other than that, she is as mortal as she was before.”
“And the glow?” Percy asked.
Hades brow furrowed, “Can’t quite get it to fade but I’m working on it. Got a call with Hecate scheduled for later this week.”
“Elysium problems, am I right?” Apollo said, but no one acknowledged him.
“It’s ok. I like it,” Percy said, turning back towards Annabeth. But then his face turned serious.
“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” he asked. “Because I would understand if-”
Annabeth placed a hand over his mouth. “Together, remember? Anything, as long as we’re together. Besides, it gives me plenty of time to work on New Athens.”
He smiled wide as he moved her hand from his mouth, surging forward to wrap her up in another kiss.
Percy can honestly say he had never wondered what it would be like to make out with Annabeth in front of a handful of Greek Gods but turns out, Aphrodite gets everyone to applaud before shooing them away “to give the kids some privacy”
So overall, he didn’t hate it and would likely be fine doing it again
What he did hate was sharing Annabeth for the next few days
All he wanted was to steal her away and hunker down in their own little world, an underwater bubble if that’s what it took, but if the war had shown him anything it was that he hadn’t been the only one to miss her
She spent an entire afternoon with Chiron on the porch of the Big House sharing a pot of tea and playing chess
She squeezed every single one of her siblings, especially Malcolm
Jason and Piper arrived from California to tearfully welcome their friend back, Jason spewing a million different apologies which Annabeth told him were not needed
An evening was spent with Thalia under her old tree, and while Annabeth never really shared with Percy what they talked about, the way Thalia spoke to him seemed to change and he assumed it had something to do with that
Even Nico made an appearance, assuring Annabeth that he had checked over her paperwork himself and there were no secret clauses or loopholes for her to worry about
The week culminated in a welcome back party put on by the Hermes cabin, the self-proclaimed kings of hospitality
On behalf of the Ares cabin, Clarisse presented her oldest nemesis with a gift in the form of a new and improved war banner
It was bluish gray and showed an owl with its wings outstretched holding a trident in its claws.
“It’s fire resistant too,” Clarisse mentioned. “Since you’re apparently impossible to take down, we figured your family banner should be too.”
Annabeth smiled from ear to ear and proudly displayed the flag for all to see.
“Clarisse are you being nice?” Percy teased
She socked him in the gut and then, when he was hunched over, she roughly patted him on the back. “Enjoy it while you can, runt. Cause when our dad gets out, it’s over for you.”
“Can’t wait,” he huffed.
Percy regained his breath and looked over at Annabeth who was showing off her gift to Chiron
He knew Clarisse was right, that he hadn’t changed things forever
but he had changed things enough
And he had changed them at least for now
As long as Annabeth Chase was walking the earth, alive and well, he would deal with whatever else came
Plus, he had it on good authority that nothing else would come for a long time (Apollo was quite chatty after a victory)
Long enough, at least, for him and Annabeth to live a long life
Together.

BTS juniors.
Masterlist.
Bear with me and the names of the kids. I’m currently studying for an astronomy exam, and had to use something for the names xx
Seokjin and daughter Ari (4 yo.)
She was the prettiest girl, and growing up as the daughter most confident guy you ever met, she learnt one thing or two. Ari was everything you would call a little lady. She loved pink since birth. Not tht she had any other chance. Your husband, Jin already had turned the whole house pink, the second you found out about the baby’s gender. But with Jin, a son wouldn’t have made a difference to be honest.
And just like her dad, Ari wasn’t just a pretty doll, she was also so kind, nice and intelligent. More than you could ever wish for. She surprised you every day, Jin especially.
“Dad, I can’t wear them,” Ari whined staring at her white shoes. Jin immediately started looking for pink ones to match her outfit better, but Ari’s frustration grew bigger. “No,” she sighed and walked to the shoeshelf herself. She took black ballerinas out of it and placed them on the floor.
“They will get dirty,” she explained and shook her little head at her dad. Jin looked down at her little girl and couldn’t hide his shock. His girl was so smart, while he didn’t even know he had to pack a picnic blanket... to go on a picnic.
“Yes, my smart princess, let me help you,” he said and helped her out of the white shoes.
And at Han River, Ari didn’t stop shocking her dad. But in the most embarrassing way this time.
“Do you know my dad?,” she asked a group of female teens, when Jin was busy with the bags. “It’s Jin, from BTS!” Ari started to giggle, when the girls turned to Jin and awed in his direction. “Of course,” the group screamed, when Jin ran towards them to collect his cheeky one. Jin tried to take Ari away, and apologized for her, but the girls were already singing to one of BTS’ hits.
“Jungkook uncle sings better,” Ari said, again earning wide eyes from her father.
Tumblr media
Yoongi and son Haneul (3 yo.)
It was Yoongi’s idea to name your son ‘sky’ in Korean. He liked the metaphorical aspect of it a lot, how his son would always be up high, at school, in his job or in life general. Yoongi also described the sky as something so different, with the several colors and the weather, but still so consistent.
Maybe it was too deep to others, when it was just a name. But you actually didn’t expect anything different from Yoongi. He had to put too much thought into everything.
“Mini Min?,” you walked around the house, looking for your son and your husband. You didn’t bother calling them both, as Yoongi was always glued to Haneul, when they were home.
“It’s mom!,” you heard a little panicked voice from the living room, followed by footsteps running around. You walked towards the noises until you found the culprits in the bedroom of your son. Yoongi was standing tall in front of you, with Haneul hiding behind him. Haneul was hugging Yoongi’s legs, while Yoongi was trying to hide a grin.
“Where is Haneul?,” you asked Yoongi, joining their game.
“I think I saw him in the garden,” Yoongi said and winked, telling you to leave the room for a bit. You nodded a little confused, left the room but stopped around the corner, to listen what was happening.
“Now let’s change before mommy comes, okay?,” Yoongi spoke softly.
“Is it not pretty?” Haneul’s voice was kind of sad. “It is very pretty, but I don’t think that mom will accept your t-shirt as a drawing.” So that’s what happened, you finally understood.
“But books are boring.” You could only imagine how pouty he looked right now. Haneul always found new places to draw on, because like he said, drawing books were boring after a while.
“How about we go out and draw with chalk on the house wall?”
Tumblr media
Hoseok and the twins (2yo) Luna (girl)& Leo (boy)
What else was there to expect from the kids of Jung Hoseok. These two were up since way too early in the morning with way too much energy.
“All I wanna do is sleep,” Hoseok whined. The man, who was once so famous for his energy and vitamin like character. The man, who didn’t think twice about another round of dance practice or could handle concert after concert. His own twins were his downfall.
“That’s what I’ll be doing the whole day,” you smirked at him. Last month Hoseok and you made a bet and the winner got a day off. The bet had been nothing spectacular, but for sleep deprived and almost crazy parents multiplication had been hard. So today, you had the day off, you would go to a hotel to just... sleep. You wouldn’t even bother with the spa or any other thing. Sleep was all you needed.
“And I’ll be having a great day with my two angels!,” Hoseok bluffed. His confident facade didn’t survive for five seconds, because the twins brought him back to reality with their screams. They had been playing peacefully with their toys, which was over now.
Leo had managed to tangle up his doll’s hand in Luna’s skirt, and Luna running away from him made Leo crazy. And of course, Luna had to scream while eunning around. Before you could calm them down, Leo caught his doll, and pulled at it. His doll suddenly left Luna's skirt, so that Leo fell on the floor. Luna looked back at her brother, seeing him and his doll. And a part of her skirt in his hands. So another scream party started at that point.
“I can’t survive this,” he turned at you,”you can get your free day, when those are five or so, but today you can’t leave me.”
“Okay, babe. But don't call them 'those', they were your two angels a minute ago.”
Tumblr media
Namjoon and son Jaein (4yo)
These two were so different, but still so similar. Day by day Namjoon was getting clumsier, while Jaein was getting more cautious. But at the same time, they searched for each other, when they saw cute things on TV or in a book they read.
"Daaaad!," Jaein yelled around, until he found his dad in the garden with you. Jaein had a coloring book in his hands. He sat in Namjoon's lap like he always did and told him to wait for a second.
"I found our friends," he explained, searching for the tight page in his book. "You did? This is amazing, Jaein."
"Look! It's an octopus, but you can only see six legs," Jaein pointed at the page with a half colored octopus,"I counted them."
"You did great, but why didn't you finish coloring?"
"Dad!," Jaein suddenly said, frustrated with Namjoon,"I told you, it has six legs!" But Namjoon only had qustion marks all over his face.
"Only six? Not eight?," you helped Namjoon out.
"Ah! Then let us get a pen and draw the missing legs, ok?," Namjoon asked Jaein, who was now happy that his dad saw the problem.
"I'll get them," Jaein said and jumped up.
"I think he's afraid that you will trip again in his room."
"He is so smart and caring." Namjoon had hearts inside his eyes, watching Jaein enter the house.
"Yes, he is, but I think he is also afraid that you will destroy his lego castle."

Jimin and daughter Elea (14 months)
You woke up from Jimin’s screams and Elea’s laughter. While moving in her sleep, Elea somehow had managed to slap her father in, waking both of them. Now she was jumping around on the bed, running away from her dad. She was nowhere close to being stable on her feet, but she trusted Jimin to catch her, if she would fall.
“Stop right there, rascal!,” Jimin yelled jokingly trying to get a hold of Elea’s little arms. But she only giggled even harder and murmured something.
“Rascal!,” you could make out between her giggles.
“Park Jimin!,” you yelled at him for teaching her bad words. Elea was weirdly talented in that area. Only picking up bad words, when it took you months and months to get her to learn mom or dad (she said dad first, to Jimin’s delight). But once she heard Jin say sh*t, she repeated it for hours.
“My girl is just smart in her own way!,” Jimin argued, but then Elea continued with her little curses.
“Lili,” it was Jimin’s little nickname he used for her, when he wanted her to comply,”let’s forget that word, and I’ll teach you prettier ones, and get you chocolate.”
“Okay, rascal!,” Elea yelled happily, but immediately covered her mouths. “Sorry, dad,” she whispered afterwards.
“It’s ok Lili-baby, should I tell you my favorite word?,” Elea nodded excitedly,”Lovely!”
And just like the mini version of Jimin, Elea started chanting “Lovely, lovely, lovely!”
“It reminds me of someone,” you said to Jimin.
“Of someone lovely?”
Tumblr media
Taehyung and twin boys Bora& Baram (2 yo.)
Only those who could handle twins were gifted with them, you believed. And seeing Taehyung with his twin boys, it felt right. Any other person would have gone mad by now, but he and even you were doing great. You developed the infamous instincs, that told you if the boys were hungry, awake or in any kind of danger. And Taehyung... was just born for this.
You kind of thought that it was his pure love and excitement to have kids, but really this was something beyond it. It was like watching these super dad videos everyday. The ones, where dads catch their kids mid air from falling or save them from being hit from flying balls.
“Kims,” he yelled without even turning around, and the boys immediately started apologizing in their baby language. The twins were playing in the pool in your massive garden. It was unusual for young people in Korea to have houses with gardens, many preffered apartments, but Taehyung told you that it was his dream to live like this. And you loved it as well. Also noone would be able to survive as your neighbors anyways. Your morning routine included dancing to Anpanman after all.
“What will you do about food?,” you asked Taehyung, because you would have a girl’s day with your friends for the first time in forever. And the twins only were problematic about food, anything else was manageable for Taehyung.
“Food?,” he thought for a while,”I’ll probably get hamburgers.”
“Ya! Kim Taehyung! They are only two!”
“Just the right age to start loving hamburgers!”
“So I’ll prepare lunch before I leave?”
“And dinner please.”
Tumblr media
Jungkook and daughter Hera (8 months)
“You have to come back,” was the only thing Jungkook said on the phone. You had only left to get some food at the supermarket, because Jungkook was always too slow or hindered by fans. And you really needed to get out of the house.
So after ending your 2 seconds call, you quickly grabbed the essentials and paid. You could only imagine, what was happening at home. Was Hera crying? Did something happen to her? So you hurried and got home, to find Hera and Jungkook lying on the floor. Their bodies made a perfect L shape, Hera the short stroke, Jungkook the long one, touching by their heads. Well, not exactly touching. Hera’s fingers were in Jungkook’s hair and it was written on his face, that she was pulling now and then.
Hearing you enter the room, Jungkook tried to get up, just to be held down by Hera’s little hands and her whines.
“She only stopped crying when she did this,” Jungkook explained, going back to his previous position on the floor.
“Hera, come on, look what mom got you,” you tried to lure her. And she did turn on her stomach and started to crawl into your direction. With her hands still in Jungkook’s hair. Given his muscles and body, it was funny to see him defeated by his baby girl. All he could do was hope, that Hera would let go. So you came to his rescue, lifting Hera up, and freeing her hands.
“She started crying the second you left,” Jungkook said unhappily.
“It was the first time any of us left, she would’ve done the same with you,” you told him, because you heard a bit of jealousy in his voice.
“If she doesn’t cry, I’ll lose my pride,” Jungkook responded, but happier after your comment.
“And if she does?”
“My mind definitely, she can be so loud.”

forever fools | tddup!spinoff
Tumblr media
→ summary: jieun learns that saying goodbye is a two-way street, and sometimes it's easy to forget to look both ways before crossing.
{or alternatively: here's some sad lesbian angst ft. sana from twice}
→ genre: angst, slight fluff/humor, tddup!au → word count: 5.8K → a/n: this was commissioned by my lovely patron haley, to whom i am forever grateful for. i don't know if this is what you were expecting, but hopefully you enjoy it!! thank you again for being such a great star in my life!! if anyone else is interested in commissioning me for works like this, head over to my patreon (link in description) for more details. without further ado, here’s some lesbian greek goddess angst lmao!!
Tumblr media
There’s something strange about looking at an empty bedroom, Jieun thinks as she snaps her last suitcase closed with a note of finality reverberating in the still air. The normally cluttered closet stands forlornly against the wall like a shell, the floor looks pristinely white for the first time in a century, and the window sill is devoid of all the little succulents that Demeter had given her from the first day she had arrived at Olympus. Above all, what unsettles her the most is the fact that the room did not look like it has ever been lived in at all. Jieun shakes her head, a small smile of amusement gracing her face. The cleaning naiads truly do not hold any prisoners when it comes to dust and dirt.
As she looks around her room, it is hard for her to keep the nostalgia at bay. After all, for the longest time, Jieun has called this place home––an oasis away from the terrible migraines and playful chaos that happens on a regular basis while working as an Olympian. It is the one place where she can escape when Zeus’ antics would get a little bit too much. While she did sleep in the same bed as him on most nights (not quite out of her own desire, but rather, because of a sense of duty that compels her to stay faithful to Zeus), she always did like slinking away to her little haven whenever she had the time.
She does not know what this room will be used for, since Y/N has expressed her desire to stay by Zeus’ side. Jieun chuckles at the memory of a red-faced Y/N when she had explained her reasons, saying something along the lines of “I need to keep both eyes on that man-sized toddler” even though her rapidly beating heart and flushed cheeks said otherwise. Oh, the beauty of young love.
In the midst of her contemplations, she hears a knock outside her window pane despite her room being high up in the heavens. Normally, most mortals would be confused as to who would have the ability to climb thousands of meters up into the air, but since Jieun is a goddess (or soon to be an ex-goddess, to be exact), things like this are hardly ever out of the ordinary. Even more so, Jieun knows exactly who the intruder is, because no one else would be crazy enough to disturb her privacy and wear those gaudy winged Gucci slippers with a stupid grin on their handsome face.
“Someone called for the bellboy?” Hermes says in lieu of a greeting as Jieun opens the window for him to enter through. Hermes flops down from the window sill, his Gucci slides thumping loudly against the carpeted floor. He takes the suitcase away from Jieun’s hand, who almost seems reluctant to let go. Noticing her mournful face, Hermes steps closer to her, squeezing her shoulder comfortingly.
“Hey, you doing okay, Hera? I know it must be weird. Hell, I think it’s gonna be weird not hearing you nag me all the time,” Hermes jokes, but his voice drips with sadness. In truth, Jieun always did appreciate Hermes’ presence, especially since the two of them had become gods at around the same time period. Jieun has promised herself that she wouldn’t cry in front of the others, but somehow seeing the usually upbeat god looking so forlorn was making her tear ducts moisten against her will.
“Nah, I’m fine. We all knew this was coming, sooner or later. Besides,” Jieun huffs, pinching the younger’s cheek with a smirk. He whines, but doesn’t do anything to push her hand away. “Even when I die, something tells me that you’re going to be visiting me in the Underworld more often than you did when I was here on Olympus.”
At that, the trickster god laughs, his ears reddening at the accusation that the two of them knew was true. He shrugs his shoulders, the sadness abated for now. There is more than enough time to be sad in the future. “Perhaps. Don’t tell Yoongi though, because I’m going to be using the excuse that I miss you for the next millennia until he starts to get suspicious of my frequent visits.”
“Something tells me he wouldn’t mind either way,” Jieun smirks, ruffling the boy’s hair in endearment. Hermes gives her a wicked grin, neither agreeing nor denying the claim.
“This is the last of your belongings, right? No need to call the Anemoi to help bring your stuff down to your new home?” Hermes says, lifting the suitcase to check its weight. He whistles when he feels how light it is. “Damn. You really don’t have a lot of stuff on you, huh? You’ve been living here for the past 1000 years so I had expected at least a few more bags, if I’m being honest.”
Jieun shrugs, gesturing around her room. “This bedroom was honestly just as much as a storage space as it was a hiding spot, and there wasn’t a lot of room to keep things over the centuries. Plus, I was never into material things, so the things I have are mostly necessities rather than memorabilia.”
Hermes shakes his head, a fond smile on his lips. “Ah, the frugal Asian in you really hasn’t disappeared even after all these years, huh?”
“You can take the girl out of Asia, but you can’t take the Asian out of the girl,” Jieun laughs, pushing Hermes out of her room. “Now get out of my room––I have to start doing last minute preparations for the wedding and I can’t do that with an annoying twink in my room.”
“Who are you calling annoying? That’s no way to treat your bellboys! A tip would be very appreciated, by the way,” Hermes whines, but he slips out of the window regardless.
“I’ll give you the tip of my strap if you keep delaying! Now shoo!”
Hermes snorts, winking salaciously at her. “Oh, you know what this baby boy likes, huh?” he says, guffawing loudly when Jieun goes to grab his ankles from her window sill. Floating outside with her suitcase in tow, Hermes gives her one final goofy salute before he is off to deposit the last of her belongings in her new mortal abode.
Left to her own devices once more, Jieun walks over to her closet, where a single white dress hangs loosely like a ghost. She thumbs the fabric, an odd feeling rising up her chest at the sight of it. This is the dress that she would be wearing to the wedding, an heirloom that has been passed down for generations after each Hera has passed the torch to the next. She remembers the previous Hera wearing this exact dress during her union with the previous Zeus, remembers the way the dress had made her previous mentor look spectral in a way––as if she was already gone before she had even left.
The thought jars her, and she rips her hand away. She wipes her palms against her jeans, feeling sweat start to build for whatever reason.
Unwilling to stay in this empty room for much longer, Jieun is thinking of having some last minute checks with Y/N to see how she is holding up when two small bodies crash through the door in a flurry of limbs. Jieun hardly flinches when the two girls stand up in noisily, their giggles giving her the impression that they may not be as a sober as she hopes they would be. Demeter is the first one to straighten up long enough to shoot her a wide smile.
“Hera! What are you doing here being all mopey and sentimental? You’ve got a party to catch!” Demeter laughs, her potent intoxication causing sprouts to grow out of her head. Hestia smiles, more reserved than the younger (or was it elder? Demeter is certainly older when it came to human years) but clearly just as out of it, as she plucks the small plant and tucks it into her own ear.
“I’m not being mopey,” Jieun frowns, mopey. She gives the two other goddesses an appraising look. “And what party are you talking about? I’m assuming it’s my surprise farewell party from the Facebook event that our lovely Eos accidentally invited me to.”
Hestia gasps, slapping her head comically as she looks at Demeter in disbelief. “That stupid bitch! I told you that we should’ve used Eventbrite instead!”
“Either way,” Jieun interrupts, watching as the two continually sway on their feet. “That doesn’t explain why the two of you are already drunk out of your minds when the supposed party hasn’t even started.” She suspects they must have also gotten a hold of Dionysus’ secret stash of godly pot, because she knows the two girls aren’t exactly the lightest drinkers. Either that or the excessive amount of binge watching shitty Netflix shows has finally caused their limited brain cells to deplete.
“Who says the party hasn’t started?” Demeter grins, tugging Jieun by the wrist and out of her room. Before Jieun can turn to take one last look at her old bedroom, Hestia closes the door with a bang, and somehow Jieun knows that this might be one of the last times she’ll ever get to see it.
Hestia has the decency to shoot her a guilty look. “We weren’t purposefully gonna start the party before we brought you there, of course. But Wendy-unnie over here––” Demeter squawks at the use of her human name, slapping her shoulder playfully, but not appearing entirely as offended as Jieun had expected, “––saw that they were serving spiked nectar that Iris stole from Dionysus so really… Can you blame us?”
Jieun rolls her eyes playfully, a smirk gracing her lips. “Of course, that explains everything. How could I be so selfish?”
Demeter manhandles her until they reach the Chariot Room (which is basically just a garage with a mismatch of vehicles from every time period imaginable; they bypass the Hatsune Miku chariot with averted eyes.) They approach one of the more modern vehicles, parked near the exit of the garage. Jieun looks at the license plate and notices that its Artemis’ silver car that she uses when she does her nightly moon journey.
“Please tell me Artemis actually let you take her car and we’re definitely not going to hotwire it––aaaand of course you’re hotwiring it,” Jieun groans, watching helplessly as the two younger girls start doing who knows what to the poor car. If the car had been sentient, she is sure it would be filing a sexual harassment case with how much tinkering they were doing.
“It was her idea to host the party anyway, so sucks to be her!” Hestia says defensively, her brows furrowed in concentration as she conjures magical fire out of her hands to help… whatever it is that Demeter was doing. Jieun does not want to know where Demeter pulled out the tube of toothpaste from, and why it was needed to hotwire a car.
“I really don’t understand why we need to celebrate my departure anyway. It’s not like I’m leaving forever; in fact, I’m probably going to have to deadbolt my apartment to keep you vermin from breaching my privacy,” Jieun jokes, snickering when she sees the affronted look that Hestia shoots her. “What? You look at me as if I were lying.”
“Well, you look at me as if I haven’t been pestering you ever since I turned from drab ol’ human Yeri and into the banging goddess that I am today!” Hestia says, her eyes lighting up gleefully.
Jieun snorts. “You’re right. You’ve been a pain in my ass ever since you existed. How foolish of me to think otherwise.”
Seconds later, Hestia and Demeter make a noise of contentment when the car whirs to life, signalling that whatever they had done had miraculously worked. (Again, Jieun doesn’t want to know, and the less she knows, the easier it is for her to escape Artemis’ wrath later on.)
“But seriously,” Demeter begins, standing up and hopping into the driver’s seat. Before Jieun can even argue, Hestia takes the passenger seat, sticking her tongue out petulantly like the supposedly “banging” goddess that she was. “Artemis and Persephone planned this party mostly to get back on your good side after they got mad at you for making Y/N marry the thunder twerp. Which, I mean… Can you blame them? He’s a fucking loser and Y/N is… Well. Have you seen her ass?”
Jieun jumps into the backseat, a huff of air punched out of her lungs when she realizes she just sat on one of Artemis’ stray buttplugs, poking itself into the small of her back. Jieun gingerly picks it up, throwing it against the back of Hestia’s head. “Yes, I can blame them. At the end of the day, it’s my decision who succeeds me as Hera and I needed to choose quickly because my time was almost up. Y/N just so happened to make the perfect candidate, so they had no right to be angry at my decision.”
Demeter grumbles. “Yeah, I know you’re right. It’s just that we really thought you were on the lesbians’ sides... No wonder you never showed up to the blood compact, traitor,” Demeter says, no bite to her tone. The smirk on her face tells Jieun that she’s far from mad. “Still, I would’ve loved to have Y/N join our little dyke trysts. Do you think maybe she’s bi?”
“Who knows?” Jieun muses, staring out the window as Demeter clicks for the garage doors to open. The sunny open sky greets them as the three women start driving out of Olympus and to wherever it is that the party was located. If Jieun squints hard enough, she thinks she can see the mortals milling about on earth, where she’ll be in just a few more hours. A mortal, once more.
“And besides, there are other mortal girls that Artemis and Persephone can find,” Jieun says, looking away from the view to glance at Demeter’s reflection from the rear-view mirror. When the agricultural goddess notices, she gives her a knowing look.
Despite her inebriation, Demeter manages to safely drive them to the party, which happens to be the mansion where the nine Muses are known to live in.  Demeter parks the car haphazardly, uncaring for the rules of parallel parking and all codes of ethics as she takes up the entire driveway before turning off the ignition. Hestia is the first to jump out, stretching her legs and ready to race back towards the party.
“C’mon, slowpokes! The nectar is getting warm,” she calls out, rushing towards the door where the sounds of laughter and singing can be heard even from the garden.
“Remind me to keep her away from the alcohol during the wedding,” Jieun murmurs to Demeter. The other girl only grins wildly, and Jieun knows that there really isn’t any use depending on her when it comes to the topic of sobriety.
Jieun and Demeter follow after Hestia to find the party already in full swing. Demeter loudly announces over the din to tell everyone that the celebrant has arrived, and a chorus of welcome’s come from all around. Jieun flushes under the attention, never one to go to full out raging parties in the first place, least of all the ones dedicated to her. Regardless, she walks around to greet everyone, thanking them for coming despite their inebriation rendering most of them useless to anything other than them replying with raucous giggling and hugging.
Artemis and Persephone somehow find their way towards her, stumbling through the crowd and piling their drunken bodies onto her to capture her in the tightest bear hug imaginable. Jieun laughs under their assault, using up all her strength to pull away long enough to see that their faces are already decorated with lipstick smudges and other stains that Jieun has no desire to learn about.
“Jieeeeeeun, you came!” Artemis cries, rubbing her cheeks against Jieun’s. She already feels the lipstick rubbing itself uncomfortably against her skin, but she does not pull away out of politeness. “I thought you wouldn’t come!”
“And why is that?” Jieun asks, awkwardly patting the babbling younger as she starts to hiccup from both intoxication and excessive emotions. “Also, who told you that you’re allowed to call me by my human name, young lady? I’m still Hera to you until tomorrow evening.”
“Sorry, she’s a little tipsy,” Persephone giggles, prying herself and Artemis away from Jieun to let her take her first breath in over a minute. “But seriously Hera, we’re really sorry about how we acted with the whole Y/N thing. We shouldn’t have gone ballistic on you and called you a hetero on Twitter. That was definitely uncalled for and totally barbaric of us.”
“Don’t worry, kids. I was hardly phased by your insults,” Jieun smirks, giggling at the absolute sorrow and guilt contorting the archer goddess’ face. “Really.”
“But it’s so out of line! No one deserves to be called a het, not when you’re so fucking gorgeous and sexy and hey are you free tomorrow evening––” Artemis starts hiccuping incoherently, and Persephone has to wheel her away before she can embarrass herself further.
“We’ll talk later when I sober her up! Have fun tonight, okay? We’re willing to take our ‘punishment’ later for our terrible crimes, if you know what I mean.” Persephone winks, pushing her friend away to the kitchen, probably to get more drunk and grind against each other. Jieun stores away this scene away into her memory for blackmail later on.
After her encounter with the two hosts, Jieun decides to circle the rest of the room. She greets a few familiar faces, including the actual people who live in this mansion. The Muses that she greets are at various stages of drunk, but most of them welcome her warmly despite their incoherency. When Jieun enters the main dining hall, she can only watch worriedly as the Muse of comedy hangs precariously from the chandelier while wearing nothing but a silk black robe.
“Thalia, don’t make me fucking burn your clit off again! The chandelier is going break under your fat ass. Get down from there or else––SOMI!” Polymnia cries, almost missing a stray foot to the face. The crowd hoots at the display, egging the comedian on. “This is your last warning!”
Jieun chuckles at their antics, but she can’t help but notice that she has only seen eight of the sisters so far. Her palms begin to sweat, knowing full well who the missing Muse is and wonders if she might have chosen not to attend due to the argument that still lies fresh on both their minds. She feels the disappointment start to build up in her stomach, thinking that the Muse of tragedy truly wants to avoid her like she had feared.
After Jieun circles the whole living room to give her regards to all the other party-goers, she decides to head upstairs to one of the balconies to get some fresh air. She sees a few more straggling guests, most of them too preoccupied to properly respond to Jieun’s soft greetings since their faces are currently entrenched in other endeavors at the moment. Still, Jieun doesn’t mind as she passes by the bedrooms to the slide open the balcony door and allow the soft afternoon breeze to caress her face.
Since her eyes are closed when she welcomes the gentle wind to blow around her, she does not immediately notice two things.
One, there is a giant ice sculpture in Jieun’s perfect likeness, with all her curves and imperfections open to the world to see. The summer heat does not melt the sculpture, but this is not a surprise when it comes to the power of gods (plus, someone placed a small ice bath around it, though Jieun does not know why that would be of any help whatsoever.)
Two, she is not alone.
Melpomene stands idly by the edge of the balcony, her gaze trained away from Jieun. She knows that the Muse has noticed her presence, because her shoulders are hunched up in a way that only means that she is on guard and ready to flee at a moment’s notice. The Muse of tragedy stares up at the sky, neither of them saying a word as the two of them quietly listen to the muted music from the party downstairs and the sound of drunken naiads prancing wildly in the gardens.
The sun has begun to descend, but Jieun notices the way it slinks across the sky irregularly, almost as if a toddler were just slapping it across the sky like a tennis ball. Instead of the usual twilight transition that is familiar to most people, the sun appears to transform immediately into the moon, as if a light switch had been turned on and suddenly it was night time. The sky darkens immediately, and the world around them is bathed in stars.
Melpomene must have been sensed Jieun’s confusion because she offers up an explanation, voice scratchy from misuse. She sounds sober, unlike the rest of her sisters. “It’s Apollo. Artemis got him to take her shift as the moon for today,” she says, never once looking back at Jieun. She continues to stare at the random spirals that Jieun now knows is the work of Apollo’s disastrous driving skills. Poor kid.
“Well, he only did become the newest Apollo a few months ago. Although, I wouldn’t say that Artemis should have trusted him to do the night shift when he can hardly do his own day shift,” Jieun comments, pursing her lips as Apollo does a steep nosedive before thankfully going back on course.
Melpomene does not reply. The two of them stand in awkward silence, and Jieun has no idea how to break it. She wants desperately to speak to her, knowing that it wouldn’t sit well if she left Olympus knowing that one of her dearest friends stayed mad at her. She fidgets beside her, mouth opening and closing shut as she thinks of something to talk about.
“Hah, speaking of Apollo… Do you remember who came before him? I never even knew his human name,” Jieun starts, already beginning to spew out whatever nonsense comes to mind.
“Never really liked the sixth generation Apollo. He always gave off a lecherous vibe, and we were all so excited to see him leave. I remember how Hermes had gifted him a stink bomb disguised as a bath bomb for a goodbye gift… I could smell the stench all the way from Olympus. I’m lowkey worried that all of you are itching to kick me off as well and pull a stink bomb on me,” Jieun jokes, but her voice cracks imperceptibly, giving herself away.
Even though she tries to keep her voice lighthearted, deep down, she doesn’t even know if anyone will actually be sorry to see her gone. Sure, this party is dedicated to her, but that’s hardly a reason for her to believe that any of these people like her. Olympians are notorious for latching on to any reason to throw a party; hell, she solemnly remembers when Poseidon’s goldfish laid its first egg and they had partied for a whole week.
At the end of the day, she is just another mortal. Who is she to expect that anyone would remember her in a few thousand centuries?
There is something about her words and her tone that makes Melpomene snap out of her silence, eyes blazing with a fury so intense that it surprises Jieun. She gapes at the angry brunette, who corners her to the edge of the balcony until her butt bumps against the cool surface. When Jieun looks over her shoulder, she sees that the naiads from the garden have gone elsewhere, leaving the two of them alone.
Melpomene jabs her finger right into Jieun’s sternum, her hand shaking with emotion. “How fucking dare you insinuate that no one will miss you. How fucking dare you think that anyone would ever forget you!”
For a moment, Jieun is at a loss for words. Jieun splutters indignantly, wondering where Melpomene’s misplaced anger was coming from. She stares wide-eyed at the younger and wonders if her irritation stems from something more. “It was just a joke,” she says, lamely.
“A joke? Is that what you think everything is?” Melpomene laughs, and Jieun thinks the flower inside her heart wilts at the sound. It’s harsh, a sound wave that grates against her eardrums. The younger is never one to laugh without mirth, despite the nature of her role as the Muse of tragedy, but Jieun knows that the tormented tone in her voice is no longer because of the tragic tales she weaves in her stories––
It’s because of her.
“You betrayed us, didn’t you know? We all thought that we had more years to spend with you, and you just suddenly drop the bomb on us that your death day was coming,” she cries out, tears welling up in her eyes. Jieun’s hands itch to wipe them away. “Do you have any idea how terrible it is to find out that the person you love more than anyone in the world is going to leave you forever?”
Love. She loves her.
Somehow, the words don’t make sense to her.
“I’m not going to leave forever,” Jieun says instead, irises flitting about and unable to stay still. Her legs burn where they touch Melpomene’s own, and she wants to pull her closer and never let go. “I already told you last week that you’ll be able to visit me as a human until the Fates cut my string. I didn’t betray anyone.”
The tragedian’s nostrils flare, and she clutches Jieun’s shoulders tightly, as if she was afraid she would disappear if she didn’t hold on quick enough. When Jieun observes her closely, she notices the way her lips quiver with the effort of keeping it together. I did this to her, Jieun thinks sadly. Is this what love does?
“Did I mean nothing to you, then?” Melpomene murmurs, voice shaky as a leaf. She digs her nails into the back of Jieun’s shoulders, but she doesn’t mind the pain if it lets the younger steady herself. Anything. Take anything from me.
“If I truly meant something to you, you would’ve known that things like this matter to me. You should’ve cared, but you didn’t.”
Jieun exhales, tongue thick in her mouth. “Sana––”
“Don’t call me that!” She shouts, wrenching her hands away from her body as if she had been burned. Her absence hurt Jieun more than any of the scars from the wars she has fought––not even the agony of Zeus’ lightning bolt can compare to this pain. Melpomene stalks away from her, and it is only when she separates herself from Jieun that she allows the tears to fall.
Even when she was crying, Jieun can’t help but think that she is the most beautiful person that she has ever seen.
“Mel,” Jieun tries again. It hurts knowing that she has probably lost the precious gift of being able to call her by her true name, and it twists her heart painfully to realize that she will never get to experience the sweet taste of her name on her tongue ever again. “None of us are immortal, Mel. We’re all bound to pass, just like our predecessors. You should have known my time was limited. And besides, we’ll meet again in the Underworld––”
“Don’t you get it?” she seethes. She turns away from Jieun then, not allowing her the opportunity to watch helplessly as the only girl she’s ever cared for starts to openly weep for her, a living corpse. The weight of time has never felt so suffocating until then. “The Underworld is different. By then, it would have been centuries of us having to stay apart, and who is to say we’ll find each other again? Hades told me how difficult it is for lovers to reunite and how they often forget about each other by the time they do meet again. How can you be so nonchalant about this––?”
“Melpomene, my love,” Jieun whispers, and she takes a tentative step towards her. When she gingerly places a palm against her back, she feels the younger tense, but she does not move away. Jieun carefully slides her arms around her waist, embracing her loosely as she nuzzles her face into her back. She takes a shaky breath. “I’m still here, aren’t I? We lasted centuries before ever meeting, and I’m sure I’ll keep waiting for you for another more. Why worry so soon when we have time?”
At her words, Melpomene starts to shake violently, the sound of her sobs echoing into the night. Jieun refuses to let go, trying so hard to make the other girl understand she hasn’t died––not yet. She’s only ever felt alive whenever she’s around the tragedian, and that hasn’t changed even after centuries of stolen kisses in the meadows and whispered promises in the shadows.
Even in the light, those promises will hold true. Jieun will make sure of it.
“I’m scared,” Melpomene eventually says after a few minutes of sobbing, still faced away from her lover in fear of breaking more. But when Jieun gently cups her cheeks to face her, she can’t help but follow her touch like a moth to a flame. Jieun’s heart breaks at the sight of her swollen eyes, the look of pure devastation spilling the contents of her soul to anyone who can see. Melpomene continues, “I’m scared that we’ll forget.”
“I know,” Jieun whispers, and she suddenly notices the wetness on her own face––she’s been crying, too. Melpomene begins to brush them away, just as Jieun goes to brush them off as well. Melpomene lets out a watery giggle when their hands clumsily bump against each other.
Jieun grabs her hand before she can pull away. She squeezes tight. “It’s fine to be scared, you know? And I know it’s hard to see me go, but is it really harder to believe that I won’t leave you alone?”
“It’s not, but I can’t help but worry––”
“Mel, I have to tell you something,” Jieun interrupts, and she tries to sound firm to fully make her understand. She wants––no, needs her to understand that there is nothing to fear. “My time with you has meant so much to me, even more so than the time I spent with my own husband. You know this, don’t you?”
At the mention of the god of thunder, Melpomene lets out another bitter laugh like before, and a single fat tear rolls down her face. “Ah, Zeus. How could I forget? At the end of the day, how am I even sure that you felt the same way I did? I was only a mistress––a secret kept away from everyone because you had to keep your queenly status. Whereas for me? I was just someone you fancied when there was no one to hold, someone to keep your bed warm––”
“That’s not true,” Jieun says, staring wide-eyed at the girl’s accusation. “You know that’s not true. I cared for you more than I can even bare to handle.”
“Don’t lie. I’ve seen the way you look at Zeus,” Melpomene counters, head shaking in exhaustion. She’s no longer angry, only tired from all the worries and anxieties that have haunted her for years, perhaps even for centuries. “You might not know it, but you always did look sad when you looked at him, because you knew that he would never love you the way you loved him.”
“It’s true that I love him,” Jieun begins, taking a shuddering breath. She lets out a laugh of her own, as mirthless and weary as she felt. “But it’s not the same way I feel for you.”
At those words, Melpomene scoffs, pulling away from Jieun. She begins to walk away, gaze downcast as she goes to slide open the balcony door and rejoin the party. “Even now, you can’t say those three words back to me,” she murmurs, putting on the strongest smile she can muster. It disappears just as quickly as the wind.
Before Melpomene can walk away far enough, Jieun rushes towards her and grasps her hand in her own. It isn’t even strong enough to really stop her, and Jieun’s loose grip tells Melpomene that she can leave if she really wants to.
But she doesn’t. Of course she doesn’t.
She doesn’t because she can’t, and wouldn’t want to. Despite all the worries bubbling within her, all of them threatening to erupt and destroy everything that she has come to know and love, there is one thing that keeps Melpomene sane. It is just so unfortunate that the same person who used to make her heart flutter and her soul sing symphonies is the very same person who has the power to cause everything to fall apart.
At the end of the day, she is only mortal. She can pretend to be the Muse of tragedy, who is able to weave sorrow into words just as quickly as a seasoned archer is able to draw their bow. All the talent in the world can never erase the fact that she is just a girl, and she fears just as much as she loves.
When Jieun leans forward, her breath mingling with hers in a slow waltz, the stars reflect themselves off of her eyes. They were made for you, is the last thing thinks Melpomene before her lips are millimeters away from her lover’s, until the space between them is nothing more than something that happened once in a dream. Jieun’s gravity pulls her closer still, until there is nothing more to give.
I’m yours, I’m yours, I’m yours, her heart beat thunders against her eardrums, urging Jieun to hear. She wonders if she has doomed herself, like the protagonists in her tragedies.
Melpomene pulls away for a split second, enough to gather air into her lungs which she will inevitably waste as she presses against Jieun and she is left breathless and lightheaded. This. This is what I will remember during the nights we will spend away from another. I hope you don’t forget them, too.
The party downstairs continues to rage on. The two lovers kiss by the balcony, with an audience of stars to keep them company. Melpomene fools herself into thinking that time will wait for them, if she just prays hard enough.
But she knows how tragedies end, and so she weeps.
