Does Lestat have borderline personality disorder?
Tumblr media
I am convinced Sam Reid’s Lestat has BPD—and I say this as a bisexual with BPD myself who loves and identifies with this crazy babygirl. While reading the books, I thought he was more likely to have bipolar because his highs and lows last for months/years, but in the show he has like EVERY common symptom of BPD (some of these I copy directly off of Mayo Clinic):
1. Mood-swings or little control over emotions, lasting from moment to moment or for hours/days.
2. Inappropriate, intense anger, such as frequently losing your temper, being sarcastic or bitter, or having physical fights.
3. A pattern of intense, unstable relationships.
4. Intense fear of abandonment.
5. Suicidal threats or behavior or self-injury, often in response to fear of separation or rejection. (Lestat threatens to set himself on fire—one of the few means of vampire suicide—when he feels like Louis is rejecting him/choosing Claudia over him. Also, in the books, Lestat frequently considers and eventually attempts suicide.)
6. Impulsive and risky behavior.
7. Rapid changes in self-identity and self-image. (We haven’t seen this as much in the show, but in the books Lestat loves, adores, and worships himself but, at the same time, loathes himself and feels unworthy of love. And Sam Reid mentioned this too: Lestat is a narcissist but, at the same time, has a lot of suppressed self-hatred.)
8. Ongoing feelings of emptiness. (Again you get this more in the books, with Lestat being depressed and feeling like the world is meaningless.)
Also want to note, in episode 1, Lestat says he “inherited his father’s tempter,” and people are often more likely to have a mental disorder if their parents have it too. I do think Lestat’s symptoms and behavior are very affected by the trauma he has been through and possible PTSD, on top of BPD or another mental disorder or mood disorder.... What are your thoughts?

𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚:
Louis Bloom is a complex character with sociopathic tendencies. He possesses an unrelenting dedication to his goals and is willing to employ morally questionable methods to achieve them, often rationalizing his actions based on the desired outcomes. Initially, he presents himself as kind and charismatic, concealing his more sinister traits. However, those who interact with him over time gradually uncover his manipulative and exploitative nature, finding themselves unwittingly drawn into his schemes. Louis demonstrates a proficiency in business and employs insincere motivational phrases, suggesting a knack for the corporate world. His intelligence and keen perception of others enable him to exploit people, both financially and sexually, at times revealing extreme or degrading sexual preferences. Remarkably, Louis is self-taught and a quick learner, showcasing the ability to grasp and master the intricacies of the video industry from scratch.
Louis Bloom's character is a prime example of an antihero or antagonist, as he engages in morally reprehensible actions while maintaining a complex and captivating persona. His character's complexity and the moral ambiguity surrounding his actions contribute to the intrigue and tension in the story.
𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔/𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒔:
Louis Bloom is a compelling character driven by his insatiable ambition and unyielding dedication to achieving his goals. His sociopathic tendencies are evident as he manipulates, exploits, and disregards the well-being of others to further his interests. Behind his charismatic facade lies a darker, more sinister personality that gradually surfaces as those who know him longer become pawns in his manipulative schemes. He is a master of corporate jargon and insincere motivational phrases, reflecting a keen business acumen he uses to gain the upper hand in various situations.
One of the most disturbing aspects of Louis's character is his propensity for sexual exploitation, particularly in his relationship with Nina. This adds a profoundly unsettling and sinister layer to his already complex personality. However, his ability to be a quick learner and self-taught individual is undeniably remarkable, allowing him to grasp and master the intricacies of the video industry from scratch. In Louis Bloom, we find a character who blurs the lines between the antihero and antagonist, making him a captivating and morally ambiguous figure within the story.
𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓:
Louis Bloom's character in the film "Nightcrawler" is deliberately portrayed as morally complex and disturbing, which makes him intriguing from a storytelling perspective. As a character, he serves his purpose well within the narrative and is portrayed convincingly by Jake Gyllenhaal. Therefore, I rate Louis Bloom as an 8 out of 10 for his effectiveness in the context of the film and his ability to evoke strong emotions and reactions from the audience. However, it's important to note that character ratings can be subjective, and individuals may have varying opinions about their character based on personal preferences and interpretations.

Tapping Instagram stories only to see people uprooting their life for an adventure, getting their dream job, working on their talents. Why wasn’t I born with an instruction manual strapped to me? Why isn’t there a step by step plan on how to be talented and spontaneous?

Art is often about the representation of self. I thought I would let the AI DALL-E express itself by asking it to draw
‘Draw two concepts that represent you with two things that represent your preferences’.
I got four great responses, but this one intrigued me most. If you see this post I would like to understand your interpretation of it. I will send out the others later.

As someone who’s special interest is phycolgy and understanding humans so I could fit in. Night in the woods is among. While I missed a good hour of gameplay right in the middle it is amazing. The story is very human the way abutments happens the the closure you get is a single hey a messed up I’m sorry and yeah i forgive. The way each character has there own problems. The way that mei is present as someone who is a open character h ur truly shut out. She opens up inky at the end. When all her choice are truly gone when she realizes her problems internal have cause external problems.
Spoilers from here on.
The way the mei talked about the character going from people to her to just shapes and how trees and even people. She had to escape her mind what interesting is j really have no way of telling why this “snap” happens to her. Because a or ding ti everything she had a “good life”
But one thing I’ve learned is even a good happy family can breed trauma that looks normal.
Mei is a character I will never get my closer in because I can’t find what made her this way. So many other character you get the back story. But Mei is a character you learn in the moment. And that is interesting and differnt and good. Because instead of us looking for ways to heal her past we have to focus on what has happened to her in the moment and how her past is only what gave us day 1 Mei.

I think the reason why we as a society tend to overlook someone's actions because of their looks is a psychological thing. I think a part of our brains is trained to sympathize with someone based on their looks. We've seen this time and time again with people falling in love with dangerous serial killers and cult leaders, known racists, ect.
I also think that this is true with fictional characters as well. If a character is played by an attractive actor, people tend to sympathize and excuse their actions because of their attractiveness. It doesn't matter what that character does as long as their played by an attractive person.
I don't think that this true for all people, but I think it's a very common thing with people.
