Text
James looks at Regulus' beautiful sunlit face. The sun is rising, and birds are chirping. It's the best day ever.
James resists the urge to kiss down Regulus' body until he wakes up. Instead, he gets dressed and shuts Regulus' door behind him.
James hears a door open at the other end of the hall. He turns toward the sound slowly and sees one of his best friends. He lets out a breath. It's not Sirius. Thank god.
James thinks for a minute.
That's Sirius' room.
Remus just came out of Sirius' room.
James laughs quietly. "I knew it." He whispers. "I fucking knew it."
"Shut up, James." Remus says, stalking over to him.
James smiles. "I knew it."
"What are you doing here?"
"Everyone already knows. It's obvious."
"Sirius doesn't."
Another door opens. Alice? James smiles in victory. "Knew it."
James and Marlene talk every week and when they start to get suspicious of someone, they take guesses to who their shagging.
Apparently, so far, James has got them right. Alice and Narcissa, Remus and Sirius, Mary and Lily, and even Dorcas and Marlene. He couldn't believe he got that one.
"You knew what?" Alice asks.
"I knew that you were shagging Cissa."
Alice rolls her eyes and walks over to them. "You're both standing in front of Regulus' door. I'm assuming James is the one shagging him and Remus is shagging Sirius." James eyes go wide. "It's obvious."
"Fair enough." Another door opens, and out comes Emmeline Vance, a Ravenclaw. "Emmeline Vance. Nice to see you." Emmeline turns around so fast that James thought she had to have had whiplash. "Pandora? Really?"
Emmeline Smirks. "No, don't even start that sentence." Remus says, holding his hand up to stop her.
They hear footsteps around the corner, and before they could hide, Ted comes into view. "My god." Emmeline says. "Andromeda. Definitely."
"Yeah, definitely." James replies, agreeing with her.
"My god. I thought you were Orion and Walburga." Ted says startled.
"Good for you, we're not." Alice says. She pauses. "Good for us too."
"What are you all doing here?" A voice asks. Rita.
"No way!" Emmeline shouts.
"Shut up." James says.
"Sorry."
"Bellatrix. You're shagging Bella." James smiles. "Marls owes me so much gallons."
"Can we not?" Another voice sounds. Barty.
"I'm even more rich." James says proudly.
"How good are you at guessing?" Alice asks.
"Pretty good, actually. I even guessed Marls and Cas."
"Damn." Barty says, surprised.
Multiple doors open, and Evan, Pandora, Narcissa, Bellatrix, and Andromeda come out in the hallway. "What is going on?" Bellatrix asks.
Pandora smiles. "Panda? What are you smiling about?" Her brother, Evan, asks.
"Nothing."
James purses his lips. "Yeah, I'm gonna go before Siri comes out. Right Al?"
"Yep, coming."
Narcissa grabs Alice' arm. "Not so fast. We're going back in. Yeah?"
While Alice is debating, James hears another door open but doesn't see which one. "Mon soleil?" Regulus asks. "Holy shit."
James turns around and sees his boyfriend. "Hey, mi estrella."
"What is going on?"
Barty smiles. "Sirius is about to come out any minute."
Sure enough, Sirius comes out of his room. "Mon crossiant de lune?" Sirius looks around. "Alice!? James!?"
Alice purses her lips. "I'll take you up on that offer now." She says to her girlfriend, and they go back in Narcissa' room.
"What the fuck?"
Remus walks over to Sirius and starts pushing him slowly back in his room. "Let's go back in, fy nghariad."
Sirius grumbles, turns around to go back in, and stops. "We will talk about this later, Prongs." They go back in.
"So, that happened." Pandora says.
"I say we do the same and go back in our rooms, yeah?" Emmeline says.
They all agree and go back in. "Come on, mon soleil." Regulus says.
"I should really go."
Regulus starts kissing up James' jaw line. He stops. "Are you sure?"
James grumbles and drags his boyfriend back in the room.

jegulus + The Book of Love
for this post
It's taken months and a fake start (6000 words before I realised the idea won't work in that setting smh) but I did it! For you, bae <3
The Book of Love
(Jegulus, modern muggle AU)
James hadn’t been expecting any visitors that afternoon, and the chime of the doorbell caught him lounging around the house in nothing but his underwear. He contemplated getting dressed, but the bathing robe was still in the laundry, and he didn’t feel like putting on real pants. Moreover - he was quite proud of his body. Unless it was the Girl Guides behind his door he didn’t mind giving someone a free show.
It turned out to only be Regulus, anyway.
“Regs! Hey,” James greeted, mildly surprised to see the younger man. They’d gotten closer over the last few years, but they usually only hung out with the rest of the crew; Regulus also never turned up unannounced. He claimed to have manners (the ‘unlike Sirius’ was heavily implied).
“Hello James,” Regulus said, a small, almost nervous smile on his face. “I’m sorry to bother you, just stopped by to give you this,” he held out a small package wrapped in decorative paper.
James took it, wracking his brain for which birthday, anniversary or other significant date he’d missed. “No bother at all, do you want to come in?”
Regulus hesitated.
“I’ve got muffins and Say Yes To The Dress,” James sweetened the deal.
“Okay,” Regulus said, because he could never resist pretty dresses. He didn’t wear them often, his mother’s voice still loud in the back of his head, but he really liked to look.
James let him in with a wide grin on his face. He dropped the gift on the coffee table on his way to the kitchen. “Tea or soda?” he called out.
“Tea please!” Regulus called back from the couch.
“Got it,” James hummed and put the kettle on. “So… the gift? Did I miss my name day or something?”
“No, nothing like that. Just,” a deep breath, “something I wanted you to have.”
Sounds important, James thought, but aloud he only said, “Okay, cool.” He plated four muffins and brought them, along with the tea, over to the living room. “Can I open it now?”
“Yeah, sure.” Regulus didn’t sound too sure about it, all but hiding behind his mug.
Deciding to simply rip off the band-aid, James picked up the neatly wrapped parcel. It was slim and book sized, and indeed, it was a journal.
It was old, perhaps one of the first of Regulus' waste collection of journals he started accumulating all the way back at Hogwarts. Its cover was positively girly, with pink details and horses surrounded by giant butterflies and decorated with animal stickers on top. The cheap padlock that came with the diary had been replaced by a much sturdier one, the key tied to it by a slim hair tie.
James looked up at Regulus, who was flustered and looking away in addition to hiding behind his mug.
“Go ahead,” the man grunted.
With a shrug and growing curiosity James unfastened the lock and opened the diary on the first page.
“Aaawww,” he cooed involuntarily. He forgot how posh Regulus’ handwriting was even at such a young age. Each letter was carefully drawn. James could easily imagine baby-faced Regulus sticking his tongue out in concentration.
James Fleamont Potter
Birthday: March 27
Age: 12
Height:
Likes: Sirius, Bertie’s Beans, Pokemon, football
Dislikes: S. Snape, licorice
Smiling and not sure what to think, he turned the pages, reading more facts and observations about his teenage self, Regulus’ tips to himself how to establish dominance during their interactions. James knew Regulus used to be jealous of his relationship with Sirius - James had been envious of Sirius’ relationship with his brother too, but he never realised the extent of it.
Especially endearing were dated inputs in different pens from older Regulus. Little comments such as ‘That was awful,’ or ‘I can’t believe he did that!’ were peppered around the blocks of text.
Each new school year was marked by a picture of James - sometimes drawn by hand, sometimes a cut out photograph, and his ‘stats’. James burst out laughing at the one where he was fifteen, and Regulus had added a comment of ‘He’s handsome??? Since when? Illegal’ under the photo.
From then on the nature of the notes changed dramatically. The focus on winning Sirius’ attention was gone, replaced by angry fretting at James’ stupid handsome eyes and stupider handsome smile and big hands and stupid impossible hair and stupid unfunny jokes.
“You had a crush on me?” James asked incredulously. He never would have guessed. He’d thought his best mate’s gremlin little brother hated him with all the passion of a teenage emo jock!
“Keep reading,” Regulus hummed, cheeks and ears on fire. He pulled his socked feet up on the couch and was now curled up against the arm rest. It was cute.
James kept reading.
There was a page systematically filled with variations of their names, scribbled in shame and annotated with ‘Lol this is pathetic’ and ‘Potter-Black is the superior combination’. James had to agree with the latter statement. Potter-Black did sound pretty good.
There were fantasies, starting out rather generic and becoming more detailed as Regulus got to know himself better over the years.
‘Holding hands’ transformed into ‘hooked by pinkies’ because ‘sweaty palms are disgusting’.
‘I want him to throw me on the bed’ was annotated with a ‘YES PLEASE’ and a couple more years later another comment was added that said, ‘Bet he could pick me up by the waist like a Disney princess and toss me into a ball pit.’ Which was certainly an interesting fantasy.
He felt his face grow red at the nineteen year old Regulus’ conclusion he liked giving blowjobs, but felt very icky about receiving handjobs, and drew a hard line on penetrative sex. On the other hand, necking and biting was an enthusiastic yes. Kissing was only okay if there was zero saliva transfer.
The inputs got less frequent and less infatuated as Regulus got older. Pictures stopped altogether after James’ second football match in college. There was still at  least one input per year though, tidbits of his personal and professional life accompanied by variations of ‘He got even prettier, HOW?!’
Tucked between the pages at the very end was a printed screenshot of a conversation. Only one text bubble that said, ASK HIM OUT YOU COWARD!!!! It was dated only a few months back.
“You… still have a crush on me?” James asked, just to be hundred percent sure.
Regulus hummed an affirmation. “Look, you don’t have to say anything. I just wanted you to know that… I’m an option,” he shrugged. “I know you don’t see me that way-”
“Yeah, yeah I-” James cut in, running his hand through his hair. “I’ll admit it never occured to me to think about you that way. You’re Sirius’ little brother; I guess it just… didn’t feel right even after I realised I liked blokes too?” he laughed a little nervously. Regulus nodded. He was still flushed, but looked resigned snd accepting. He’d clearly been expecting a similar answer.
“But I,” James said, looking at the younger man and thinking hard of the times they had spent together, “I think I could. Think of you romantically, that is.”
Regulus blinked a couple times. “So… if I asked you out on a date, you’d say yes?” he asked cautiously.
“Yeah.” James thought about it for a little while longer. Regulus was a nice looking bloke, he was fit, he could be quite funny when he let himself relax. James pictured them talking over milkshakes and sharing chips, like Regulus imagined they would in his diary. He imagined kissing the high cheekbones and long fingers. He imagined them getting groceries together, and he imagined Regulus hogging the blankets and the bathroom. He imagined yeeting his boyfriend into a ball pit.
“Yeah,” he repeated more decidedly. “I’d say yes.”
“Okay,” Regulus said, a small, shy smile spreading over his face slowly. “Does next Saturday work for you?”

your recent fic is so good!! ill gladly be waiting for the part 2
They say everyone deserves love, why didn’t we?
Part 1
Marlene McKinnon x reader, Sirius black x sister! Reader, regulus black x twin sister! Reader
Marlene sat on the bench outside her house, she loved it, it was a place she could clear her mind. It wasn’t long ago when she had gotten a letter from her girlfriend, y/n black informing her that she was set to marry
When she had read the letter Marlene had inspected it very carefully, flipping it over and shaking it in hopes for it so be some sort of sick joke
You told her you wouldn’t tell your parents, how did they find out?
Marlene didn’t realise a few stray tears had slipped down her face
“Marlene?” She heard her mother call “your lucky I noticed you, I was about to lock the door, come in now it’s dark”
“Just a few more minutes, I’ll lock the door I promise” her mother rolled her eyes before agreeing and heading back up to bed
She felt drowsy it was like a nightmare she couldn’t wake up from, we’re you okay? We’re the hurt or blackmailing you?
The thoughts consumed her and she shivered, not from the cold but from the thought of you marrying someone way older than you and someone who could easily take advantage of you
She didn’t wasn’t to send a letter back, incase you got into trouble, she had a feeling that sending the first letter was a big big risk on your part
Standing up and wiping the faunal tears from her face she numbly walked back inside
Time had never moved both equally slowly and fast for you.
You had gotten fitted into your mothers wedding dress and you had met your ‘husband’. Now you were sitting in your room just thinking
Your train of thoughts were quickly interrupted by a frantic but gentle knock on your door.
“Come in” you prompted and the door swung open, revealing your eldest brother
“Hi-” you were quickly cut off by him
“Father is gone, nows your chance”
“Chance for what?”
“To leave, to Marlene’s”
You looked at him as if he told some kind of joke “ he’ll catch me, it’s not worth it”
“You should at least give it a try”
“What am I going to do if Marlene’s family don’t let me stay?” You quizzed
“Potters” he stated simply “they’ll let you stay until we can sort something out, but for now i don’t see why Marlene’s parents will have a problem with you staying”
Your eyes wondered to the ground unblinking, he was right, it was worth a try, you promised Marls you would try everything.
“I’ll do it”
You stood offside to your house waiting for the knight bus, hopeful your father wouldn’t come back. Your hands held your trunk and you thanked your lucky stars that lily had put an extendable charm onto it
Feeling yourself get knocked back slightly by force of the knight bus stopping beside you
“How many tickets?” The conductor, a man in his late 50’s to early 60’s said
“One please”
“That’ll be eleven sickles” he said handing you the ticket after you handed him the money
He turned to the side letting you on
You had never been on the knight bus before as your parents had referred to it as a place for “dirty” witches and wizards
“Hold on tight love” he told you as you grabbed one of the bars nodding your head in thanks
The bus stopped a little bit away from Marlene’s house, you prayed Sirius was right and they would let you in
Marlene stirred slightly when she heard a knock on the front door, her room was downstairs and the closest to the front door
Assuming her parents didn’t hear it she moved cautiously, with her wand , that was useless in her hand
She twisted the key and carefully pulled down the handle pulling the door to revel
“Hey” you said, as you saw Marlene standing there in her pyjamas
“Y/n?” She gasped practically jumping on you “what are you doing here?”
You squeezed her tightly “I ran away”
“Come” she said pushing you inside them grabbing your trunk
You had memorised the walk to her room from the last time you had visited
“I’m sorry I had no where else to go” you sobbed, finally letting your pent up emotions go
“It’s okay lovely, I’m happy your here”
“Dad wanted me to marry lestrange” she nodded bringing you into a hug
“How did they find out?” She asked you drawing circles into the small of your back
“Narcissa I bet, fucking can’t mind her own busines”
She kissed your forehead, laughing slightly at your aggressive comment
“Your parents won’t mind me staying?” You asked nervous of what she would say
“No of course not, they love you y/n” she said making you smile through the tears
Marlene wiped the tears of your face with the palm of her hand “I love you y/n black”
You smiled and placed a kiss on her lips “and u love you Marlene McKinnon”

note: for @rcwenaclaw’s writing challenge — this is my favorite fic so far <3 s/o to @iwritesiriusly and @hellounicorn for listening to me rant and and rave about y/n and reggie, u’re the best mwah
“... and you would be married to the crowned heir of grimmauld by the end of the month,” your father declared.
if you have been listening to what you’ve been blindly agreeing to, you would have had the opportunity to assert your own appraisals of the sudden betrothal.
you choked on your food, earning concerned gasps and theatrical pats by the maids, “‘m fine, ‘m fine,”
your parents stared at you with iffy looks as you cleared your throat, “i thought we’ve agreed years ago that i wouldn’t be betrothed to some high-strung bloke i’ve never met before?”
your mother pursed her lips before giving you a well-mannered response, “well, dear, we ought to make some amends with that agreement,”
you just stared at her with a blank expression so she continued, “and we believe that it would be for the amelioration of our country, considering that the blacks are quite exceptional and-”
“and rich?” you smiled derisively, cutting her off.
your father looked around the royal maids and guards around the dining room, “may you excuse us for a moment?” to which they nodded and left.
he sighed, “look, y/n, i’m aware that you’re upset-”
you scoffed, “i am more than upset, father. you agreed that i will be married on my own time, on my own accord,”
“and i am the king, you ought to meet my commands.” your father bellowed, slamming the silver utensils on the table, making you and your mother flinch.
he cleared his throat, calming himself down, “tell your matron to arrange your attire for this week, we must meet the blacks tomorrow evening at the grand chateau, and i shan’t hear any more complaints.”
“yes, father,” you mumbled, excusing yourself from the table to make your way towards your bedroom, eyes becoming glassy from the upcoming tears.
you arrived at the chateau a few hours before the royal gathering with the blacks, meaning you would have enough time to devise an escape plan.
you haven’t spoken to your parents unless you’re absolutely required to, you know that you shouldn’t be disobeying them, but they should have known from just acknowledging your mindset and behavior.
you weren’t the usual prim and proper princess, no. you are your own person, you’re noble when strictly necessary, but, in all honesty, your personality was far from dainty.
you wouldn’t have chosen to have this life if you could. as fun as it was to play dress up in magnificent ball gowns, you would have chosen a life full of adventures, skinny jeans, crop tops, and dyed hair instead.
the matron knocked on your door, bringing in the gorgeous dress robes that you’re supposed to wear for later evening.
you gratefully smiled at her, asking her to give yourself some time to prepare by yourself until the formal reception.
as you hung it over with your other dresses and gowns, you walked towards the balcony, breathing in some fresh air. it had a clear view of the beautiful gardens of the chateau, the same balconies from your left and right.
you flopped yourself down on the queen-sized bed, staring at the ceiling as you thought of possible ways to avoid the betrothal.
none of your ideas sounded good enough, so you turned on the television in front of your bed to distract yourself from the inevitable proposal.
flipping through the channels, you stopped to watch audrey hepburn’s roman holiday.
when you’ve watched the scene where she snuck out of the castle, an idea popped up in your head. you knew it was impossible, of course, but it was worth a shot.
you glanced at the clock, you still had at least an hour and a half before the matron would come back to get you.
grabbing the satchel you’ve bought at a fair once, you made your way towards the elegant bathroom. you shuffled through the things, you knew that if your mother found out about your clandestine possessions, she would go calling you atrocious for merlin knows how long.
you slipped on your cargo shorts and a halter top. you stared at your long hair, you knew that if you wanted to slip away easily from the guards’ line of vision, you had to make some adjustments.
you grabbed the scissors from the corner of the countertop, taking a deep breath before snipping a lengthy portion.
you let out a hushed squeal, laughing as you stared at the chopped-off hair. you continued cropping and trimming until your hair became an uneven bob cut.
not bad, you grinned, cutting a few more strands to add curtain bangs, impeccable.
you scuffled deeper into the bag, your hand retrieving a bagged pink wig. perfect.
you started packing a few essential needs in your satchel.
you looked out the window, the sun had set an hour ago, meaning it was dark out. which also means it would be easier for you to sneak out.
you had at least ten minutes before meeting the blacks so you immediately stared across the room, looking for something to act as a rope.
stopping at the closet of gowns, you groaned in reluctance. you loved your gowns too much but you wouldn’t risk getting married, so you grabbed the scissors, ripping them up and tying them together.
once you’ve ensured that it was tight enough, you fastened it around the huge handles of the door and threw your makeshift rope out the balcony.
when you heard the whispers and footsteps of people coming you hastily grabbed your bag and ran towards the balcony.
you carefully grabbed onto the silk, lowering yourself down.
a noise from your right caught your attention, making you freeze. you snapped your head to the balcony next to you and made eye contact with a boy doing the same thing.
your prolonged eye contact was cut short when the doors to your room burst open, making you yelp in surprise as your rope had a sudden shift.
you could hear your matron holler for the guards, so you briskly lowered yourself faster, the friction of the silk burning against your hands.
you landed on your feet the same time as the mysterious guy did.
he made a run for it, dodging the bushes and flowers across the garden. his trousers not giving him any justice.
you were not too far behind him, thanking merlin that your yoga and workout lessons paid off.
the yells of the guards caught your attention, surrounding you and the man in the middle.
they all pointed their blades at you, making you gulp.
there goes your escape plan.
“which one of you has the princess?” a guard shouted, shifting the lamp between you and him. each one of the men slowly closing in on you.
that’s when you realized that they weren’t your palace guards. they were merely the chateau’s security.
“does it look like we have a princess with us?” the boy beside you refuted, gesturing between the both of you.
ten guards.
one of them asked their superintendent, “what was the description given?”
“long h/c hair, s/c skin, e/c eyes, last seen wearing a peach nightgown,”
they turned their gaze back at you, one of them approaching you to take a good look, “wait a minute,”
you sucked in a breath, but before any of you could make a move, the guy grabbed your hand and ran, swerving through the distracted guards.
“oi!”
but you already had a head start, you were out of the gates and into the forest the moment they called for backup.
you ran, and ran, and ran.
the adrenaline coursing in your veins had done nothing to stop you from running, it made you feel so free, so alleviated.
so alleviated that you didn’t notice the huge rock that made you stumble, but before you could even hit the ground, the man caught your arm, pulling you against him.
and you were certain that time stopped when you finally locked eyes with him. specks of green and blue surrounding his alluring hazel eyes.
they said that when you meet someone for the first time, they would either be nothing more than another face amongst the crowds of memories or a face that would be burning at the back of your mind for a long time.
it was the latter.
the moonlight was shining over the both of you, the soft light making him look so ethereal. his celestial facial structure giving the famed sculptures a run for their money.
regulus looked at you in awe, neglecting the fact that you almost fell flat on your face. his gaze fell onto your gentle e/c eyes, the smooth arch of your nose, and the sleek curve of the cupid’s bow on your lips.
you would’ve loved staying in that position, admiring the young man for the first time every chance you would be given, but alas, the distant shouts of the guards forbade you from doing it any longer.
“who are you, anyway?” the guy asked. after successfully carrying out your escape plan, with your pink wig askew, he offered to buy you a mug of warm butterbeer at the nearby pub; the leaky cauldron.
you removed the wig from your head’s hold, ruffling your hair a bit to soothe the headache. your eyes searched around the room, looking for a possible new name.
“erm,” guest singer, liane moonshine, “miliane…” holyhead harpies quidditch poster, “harper.” you finished, “miliane harper, yeah,”
he eyed you suspiciously as he took a sip from his drink, “alright, miliane harper, what’re you doing sneaking out’f the princess’ bedroom like that?”
“i could ask you the same thing, stranger,” you mused, fiddling with the straps of your satchel.
“regulus,” he said, “call me regulus,”
“what were you doing sneaking out next door, regulus?”
“i asked you first,” he said, shooting you a pointed look.
thinking of a reasonable explanation, you mumbled, “stealing?” you winced, cursing yourself for hesitating.
“a’right, here’s the deal, miliane harper, because i know f’myself that you aren’t who you claim to be and you certainly weren’t there to steal,” he whispered, leaning in ‘til his face was a few inches away from yours, “now, ‘m gonna ask you one last time, who. are. you?”
you gulped, faintly murmuring your answer, “the crowned heiress of diagon.”
“salazar,” regulus cursed, “you’re princess y/n?”
you shushed him, shoving your hand to cover his mouth as a few heads turned to look at the both of you. you were certain that your parents have sent a search team to look for you by now.
“yes, but be quiet, would you?” you hissed, retracting your hand to curtain your face with your hair, avoiding the curious gazes amongst the patrons.
he blinked at you, leaning back on his chair. he observed your appearance for a bit before snorting, “your hair, it’s uneven!”
your face flushed a deep shade of red, your hand automatically clutching your hair. you scowled at him, “how long have you been aching to tell me that?”
he chuckled, “ever since you took off your wig,” seeing that you rolled your eyes, he continued, “don’t worry, y/n, you look quite beauteous, if i must say.”
“i don’t require you to flatter me, regulus,” you scoffed, grabbing your mug to take a drink, though before the rim of the mug reached your lips, regulus set a few galleons down on the table and spoke up, “as fun as it was to meet you, your highness, i’ve got some places to go,”
“what?”
“good luck with this endeavor of yours, but i mustn’t risk being one of your accomplices,” he quipped, wearing his sweater, “fare thee well.”
it took you a moment to finish your drink and grab your things before leaving the low-lit pub. your eyes searched amongst the throng of people, trying to catch the sight of his brunette curls.
you hurried beside him, trying to avoid bumping into the others. you grew quite fond of the handsome lad who ran with you, despite the fact that he was still nothing but an enigma to you.
“mind if i join you?” you sought, clasping your hands in front of you, walking side-by-side with him.
regulus groaned silently, he looked down at you and sarcastically replied, “it’s a free country,”
you rolled your eyes and responded with a retort of your own, “actually, it’s a monarchy occupied by foreign oppressors.”
he ignored your sardonic comment and asked you a question to defuse the gauche atmosphere, “why’d you run away, princess?”
you looked at him, “y’know, i’m not really obliged to answer your question,”
“i… am well aware of that,” he huffed amusingly, “but given the fact that we’re going merlin knows where, i’d rather have a conversation going than walking in utter silence.”
regulus had a gist of why you ran away, assuming that you had the same reason as him.
you laughed softly before staring at your white tennis shoes, “‘ve been betrothed, and i was s’pposed to meet the lucky bloke who’ll have my hand in marriage,”
regulus swallowed the lump in his throat.
“what about you, regulus?” you asked, “why were you running away?”
“oh,” he let out a nervous laugh, “i- stealing.”
you gave him a keen look, “i used that excuse not too long ago, if you’ve forgotten,”
he smiled tensely, “f’real though, the prince owed me something, and i’d be pleased if he returned the favor.”
you huffed, not sure if you’d believe him, but thankfully for regulus, you caught sight of your palace guards questioning some people about your whereabouts, “shit,”
you immediately linked your arm with his and whispered, “palace guards, let’s go. just- act normal,”
he carefully unhooked your hold, opting to snake his arm around your waist instead, evidently making both of you flustered.
you let out a sigh of relief when you passed by them without causing any havoc, though it was short-lived when one of them called out, “excuse me, sir, ma’am?”
the both of you continued walking, slightly hurrying your steps.
regulus hauled a carriage and helped you get in, “godric’s hollow, please,”
the guards left standing behind, one of them writing down the descriptions of the suspicious couple and the carriage they’re in.
“where are we?” you asked, looking up at the lovely cottage amongst the rows of houses.
regulus sighed, “godric’s hollow,” he walked up from the gate and knocked on their doorstep, stepping back to wait for someone to open the door.
you hummed, “alright, but what exactly’re we doing here?”
merlin must’ve been on his side again because before he could even reply, a beautiful red-headed woman opened the door.
she must’ve been taken aback for a moment because her eyebrows shot up and mouth agape. she stuttered, “i- regulus, hey,”
“evans,” he nodded politely, “is, erm, sirius with you?”
she licked her lips, “it’s actually potter now,” she showed her wedding ring, “and uhm, yes, give me a moment.”
she shuffled back inside, letting the door open but didn’t make a move to invite you in.
“she’s lovely,” you jutted out your bottom lip.
“reggie?” another man, another attractive man, whom you were assuming was sirius, inquired.
“sirius,” he greeted.
the tension was so thick that you could feel it enveloping you with warmth. or that may just be because of the additional presence of the bespectacled man behind the redhead.
“i don’t mean to be rude but are we all going to just stand in here,” you awkwardly shuffled on your feet, “or are you gonna let us in?”
sirius looked at you in wonder, “i- oh, yes, yeah!”
the man whose presence was still looming over, blinked at him, a small smile tugging at his lips as he huffed amusingly at his best friend, letting you in. you looked around the house, the atmosphere giving you a sense of comfort and a feeling of home you’ve never felt.
“james potter,” he grinned at you, “and this is my lovely wife, lily.”
“y/n l/n, the heiress of dia--” you paused, “actually, it’s just y/n. sorry, force of habit.” you chuckled sheepishly, fiddling with your fingers as they looked at you in surprise.
you wondered if you could trust that they wouldn’t send you back to your kingdom.
“you’re the crowned princess of diagon?” lily spluttered.
you smiled bashfully, “i may or may not be?”
“merlin, what’re you doing here? guards’re all over the place, knocking on doors n’all,” sirius remarked, his eyes not leaving yours.
“i also may or may not have ran away?” you grinned, scrunching your nose which both the black brothers found quite endearing.
“i would love to continue the chit chat, but d’you mind letting us stay here for a while?” regulus interrupted, but before they could even answer, a knock was heard from the door, “diagon sovereignty wards, we’ve got a couple of questions to ask.”
you cursed silently, sirius and lily quietly ushered you into the living room whilst james went to get the door.
“good evening, sir, we’ve been alerted that you’ve had some contact with these people?” a guard asked, pulling up a sketch of you and regulus.
james smiled warmly, “i’m sorry, but i reckon you’ve got the wrong person. ‘tis just me and my wife, and my best mate in ‘ere,”
they nodded politely, “that’ll be all. thank you, sir, have a great evening.”
as soon as he closed the door, james sauntered back into the living room, looking at the worrying looks on your and regulus’ faces.
he and lily exchanged glances before she smiled softly, “i’ll go prepare the guest room.”
it was deep into the night, the potter household was surrounded by a quiet and serene atmosphere as the people living in it had already dozed off, yet you and regulus were far from drifting off to a dreamy slumber.
both of you had your backs against the headboard of the queen-sized bed you were supposed to share, staring into the void of nothingness as you let the comfortable aura rage around you.
“regulus?” you whispered. as if once you’ve spoken even a tad bit louder, the brittleness of the atmosphere would break.
he turned to look at you, “yeah?”
“what’s your biggest regret in life?” you wondered, voice laced with drowsiness. the adrenaline from a while ago slowly fading away, now being replaced with exhaustion.
regulus pondered for a moment. he had a lot of regrets, letting his parents abuse him and sirius, letting sirius just leave him alone in the dark and lonely castle, not living his best childhood. he had plenty, and lying to you was one of them.
he hummed, “i suppose being a coward,”
you fluffed your pillows and lowered yourself on the bed. you yawned, “i don’t think you’re a coward, regulus. after all, you just ran away with a princess.”
regulus looked at you fondly, watching as you slowly succumbed to sleep. he smiled softly, “yeah,”
your stay with the potters, and sirius, has been wonderful. you’ve felt more at home in godric’s hollow than in your palace. no amount of grandeur wealth would compare to the amount of love and belonging you’ve felt in your sojourn.
regulus has successfully managed to keep their mouths shut about him being a prince as well. the conversation and intention still went unnoticed by you.
you and lily have been the bestest of friends. the sweet girl that made you feel more at home than anyone else could, an evident friendship blossoming into a charming one.
james and sirius welcomed you into their arms as if you were one of their long-lost mates, and quite literally if you must say. they locked you beneath their armpits and ruffled your hair one game night.
you were convinced that james was the human embodiment of a ball of sunshine, never failing to put a smile on your faces. sirius had more of a flirty demeanor, which you’ve brushed off with a quip or two of your own.
“does the princess have a prince charming or do i have to step up?”
“not every prince is charming, sirius.”
and regulus— you’ve grown closer to regulus than you’ve ever had with anyone, getting to know each other more, spending more late nights talking about everything and nothing, and not that any of you would admit it, but inevitably falling in love was part of the list.
you and lily were in her room, she was lending you some clothes to wear as all of you have made a plan to go to the market fair in town.
james was on the phone with remus, asking him to meet up at the place whilst sirius and regulus were in the living room, catching up after a few years of not seeing each other.
sirius has grown quite fond of the princess. not that he was catching feelings, but a date wouldn’t sound too bad, if he must say, so he asked his brother, “d’you reckon y/n would fancy a date w’me? maybe i could bring her to hogsmeade,”
and to say that he was dumbstruck when he heard that was an understatement, “what? no, you can’t,”
sirius looked at him with a confused expression, “how come?”
regulus hesitated, “she’s… betrothed.”
the eldest black brother scoffed, “yeah, t’you, and she doesn’t even know that you’re that bloke,”
regulus shook his head, sitting up straight as he heard your giggles from upstairs, “just- don’t, sirius.”
padfoot grinned at his brother in realization, “by the love of merlin! you love her, don’t you?” he teased, bumping their shoulders together.
“let’s go, handsomes, i’m not getting any younger here!” you laughed. regulus thought you looked angelic, the white dress hugging your curves in the most surreal way possible, the smile on your face proving that any blue day would get better with just a glimpse of it.
“this isn’t over, reggie,” sirius sang mockingly, getting up and linking his arm with yours.
the market fair in godric’s hollow is incredibly enchanting. fairy lights were hanging above the booths, multitudes of colorful stalls, the smell of the amazing street food, and the bubbly spirits of the people mingling around had you in a state of awe.
you went in separate groups, lily with james, sirius went off to find remus, and you were stuck with regulus— not that you were complaining, really.
you dragged regulus by one of the stalls that sold clothes, wanting to buy a few to avoid borrowing more from lily.
you were currently strolling around with him, your shopping bags in his hold as he insisted to carry them for you.
whilst you stopped to look at the fancy daggers, regulus caught sight of a gorgeous necklace. convincing himself that it would only take a few minutes, he left your side and onto the booth to buy the jewelry for you.
once you’ve managed to choose a design, you paid for the dagger and strapped it on your thigh with the holster you bought, “it’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
when he didn’t reply, you looked up to where he was standing just a few moments ago to find that he wasn’t by your side.
you crooned your neck to look around but instead of seeing him, you saw your palace guards slowly approaching you.
you cursed, turning around and running away from them, making them step up quickly and ran after you.
“regulus!” you called out, hoping that he’ll hear you.
“regulus!” you tried once more, and he finally heard you. he immediately pocketed the paid necklace and dropped the bags as he tried to run after you, “y/n!” but it was too late.
the guards were already surrounding you, two of them managed to carry you to a carriage while you thrashed around, “let me go! i don’t want to go back, please!” you cried, “regulus!”
regulus was running around the big plaza, trying to figure out where your voice was coming from.
the carriage was already a menacing dot as it continued to advance forward, leaving regulus frustrated and broken.
“what were you thinking running away like that?” your father barked, pacing back and forth on the castle’s lounge, “d’you know how ashamed we were when we found out that you snuck off? even more so whe-”
your father stopped talking when your mother gave him a stern look. an expression you know all too well when they didn’t want you to know something.
“it came to our attention that you ran away with regulus, yes?” your mother asked, giving you a tense smile.
you didn’t answer. looking at your parents with hatred as your eyes blurred with tears.
she sighed, “well, if you must know, he was the one who called for the guards. he knew about the huge amount of payment if someone gave you up. he contacted the palace guards before you even stepped foot in that repugnant marketplace.”
“no,” you let out a teary laughed, “regulus would never do that,”
he would never. especially after all those moments you’ve shared, those constant touches, the sneaky eye contacts. he would never.
“no? then where was he when you called for him?” your mother scoffed, a sly smirk on her face.
you glared at them, taking a shaky breath, “i-”
she tutted, “i’m not done just yet, my dear daughter. you will be married to lord riddle, on the contrary, seeing that the walburga and orion’s son was quite… negligent,”
“i will not be married to anyone!” you objected, “if there’s anyone i’d rather get married to, it would be regulus.”
your mother let out a cackle, “quite amusing if you asked me, dear, because regulus was the prince you were supposed to marry!”
you froze, managing to croak out a small, “what?”
your father chuckled, “oh, don’t tell me he didn’t tell you that?”
you swallowed the forming lump in your throat, “i hope you rot in hell.”
your mother scowled at you, “guards! bring her to the room.”
“i don’t need bodyguards surrounding me all the time, mother,” you spat, “i may be of the royal bloodline, but i am no weakling.”
“... and don’t forget to tie her up,” she smirked.
before you could even react, you were hauled up by your arms, screaming at them to let you go.
you made sure to give them a hard time while they walked up the stairs. once arriving at your room, they threw you on the carpeted floor with a right thump.
you flailed around, whimpering as they tied your arms and legs, “stop, stop, stop. please,” but they paid you no mind, leaving you alone in the dark.
after a few hours of trying to remove the rope from your limbs, and a few chaffings later, you ultimately gave up on trying. you didn’t know what your parents’ plan was but you were quite grateful for the noise and crashing outside your door.
crawling a bit towards your door, your forearm brushed against something rough on your thighs. you cursed yourself for being dense, and lifted your dress a bit, carefully grabbing your new rose gold dagger from its holster.
when you heard the jingling of your door, you hastily tried to cut the rope from your wrists.
you cussed as you dropped it on the floor, you tried to get a hold of it once more when the door suddenly burst open.
“y/n!” regulus breathed out in relief, he rushed by your side, grabbing your fallen dagger and cutting the ropes. your eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness, before turning your gaze to the man you’ve fallen in love with, the same man who lied to you.
sirius approached the both of you, trying to tell you to hurry up before the guards caught up with them, “let’s go!”
“are you alright?” regulus asked, cupping your face in his hands.
you glared at him, rubbing your arms to soothe the burning, “don’t touch me.”
you stood up, grabbing the dagger from his hand, and placed it back on your holster. you snatched your satchel from the floor and started packing a few necessities that could fit in.
regulus looked at you in confusion and hurt, standing up as you shuffled around the room, “what’s wrong?”
you ignored him, shoving past him, and made your way towards sirius, who just shrugged at his brother.
the three of you sneaked past the guards and the members of the order, successfully escaping and meeting up with lily and james at the entrance.
“oh, merlin!” lily brought you in a hug, “are you alright, y/n?”
“lily,” you breathed out, hugging her back. you closed your eyes in relief, letting out a teary laugh, “i’m alright, don’t worry,”
“we’ve got to go, they’ll catch up soon enough if we don’t leave,” james said, “‘m sure frank and the rest got ‘em distracted for a while.”
arriving back at the potter household, they let you retire back at the guest room, regulus following in suit.
“hey, y/n, what’s wrong?” regulus asked, grabbing your arm so you’re facing him.
you looked at him in anger and hurt, “you lied to me!”
“wha- what did i lie about? i don’t understand,” regulus was dumbstruck, he didn’t know what you were talking about until he remembered all about the betrothal. he looked down in guilt.
“stop the act, regulus. you were the one i was supposed to marry,” you whispered, “why did you lie to me?”
regulus sighed, sitting down on the bed as he ran a hand through his hair, “i was scared, alright? i was scared because i fell for you, y/n, and when i found out that you didn’t want to marry me, i didn’t know what to do… so i lied because i was afraid that you’d go if i told you that i was the prince.”
“and it’s terrifying how i would’ve given you the stars if you asked,” he chuckled softly, “but i chose to keep that to myself because that’s how much of a coward i am…”
“reg, i didn’t even know that it was you,” you frowned, expression softening as you sat down beside him, “and i frankly don’t care about the stars, or anything at all, honestly, because all i want is you, regulus,”
“don’t be so sure about that, y/n,” he breathed out, “if you’ve known that it was me, you wouldn’t agree to marry me.”
“you’re right,” you nodded, smiling softly, “i wouldn’t marry you because of some stupid betrothal, i’d marry you because i love you, regulus black, and i know f’myself that you’re the man that i would love to spend the rest of my life with.”
he looked at you with adoration and love in his eyes, a small smile adorning his lips.
regulus tucked the loose strand of hair behind your hair, his eyes shifting from your eyes down to your lips, “may i?”
not trusting your words, you nodded instead, slowly leaning in. regulus cupped the side of your face with his hand, your hand running through his brown curls as the both of you drew closer. eyes fluttering close as you felt the soft, warmth of his lips caress your own.
after a few moments, he pulled away slowly, pressing his forehead against your own, smiling softly at the result of the sudden revelations and confessions.
“let’s run away, regulus,” you whispered, “away from here and our wretched parents.”
“yeah?” he chuckled softly, “where’d you want to go, m’love?”
“italy.”
“... and they lived happily ever after.” you smiled softly.
“mum, what happened in italy?” your daughter asked, hugging her teddy bear as she looked up at you and regulus with her doe eyes.
regulus hummed, “they settled down in florence, italy, with the help of the marauders-”
“dad, who are the marauders?” your son questioned, exchanging looks with his sister and his cousin, harry.
“they’re the best friends of the prince and princess, orion,” james grinned, snaking his arm around lily’s waist.
“what happened next, aunt y/n?”
“well, they had a small wedding by the beach, they traveled around the world, had kids, and are now telling their stories to their adorable kids and godson,” you smiled, “and the said kids and godson should be asleep in the next five minutes.”
the three of them let out simultaneous groans. you, regulus, and the marauders had small smiles on your faces, finding the situation amusing.
“good night, my darlings, we love you,” you and regulus kissed their foreheads and tucked them in bed, as lily and james did the same with harry.
after ensuring that they were fast asleep, you and the rest went back down to the living room.
sirius grinned, grabbing the firewhiskeys and crisps out of the bag, “they finally went to sleep?”
“yeah,” you smiled, fiddling with the moonstone necklace regulus bought you from the fair, “guess our story worked perfectly fine as a bedtime tale, didn’t it, reggie?”
“indeed it did, m’love,” he kissed the top of your head, sitting down on the couch for your traditional game night.

"Rock my world" - Sirius Black x reader
A/n: I was thinking of making this a series but idk, let me know what you think. The band in the picture, Maneskin, are my inspiration for the marauders' band music and aesthetic. Check them out cause they're really good. They're going to represent Italy at the next Eurovision contest.
Here's their Instagram and Spotify.
Tags: Muggle AU, so ofc no magic, no Hogwarts, Marauders in a rock band, no Peter but Regulus instead, jily

Summary: When y/n finally agrees to check out this band that her best friend was always talking about, she's in for a pleasant surprise and one hell of a night.
Tumblr media
It had all started in the cheesiest and most cliscé of ways, really. Y/n had made a bet which had made you go out of your comfort zone that one night and for your bravery, you were rewarded with the most amazing boyfriend ever. It sounds like a story out of a rom-com or a romance novel, doesn't it? Well, yeah, it felt like a main character moment but, unlike what we see in those stories, it wasn't always fun and games.
But let's start from the beginning, shall we?
Y/n's best friend Jules had been nagging her about this rock band who was apparently the new sensation of the year according to her, for the longest time. So, one Friday night, when Jules had informed her that that very band was playing in a bar not very far from her workplace, she agreed to go for drinks there.
Worst case scenario, she thought, the music will be terrible but at least I get to tease Jules about it.
Still clothed in the floral dress she had chosen this morning, but adding a few glittery touches and graphic eyeliner to make her look more nighty, y/n headed towards said bar where Jules was already waiting for her.
"Finally," she huffed when y/n rounded the corner and entered her field of vision.
"Sorry, it was my turn to close tonight," y/n shot her an apologetic smile before hooking their arms.
They made their way inside looking for a place to sit. The bar was already crowded but not in an unusual way. Maybe it was the hour or the fact that it was a weeknight, y/n didn't know but felt grateful that it wasn't packed. She really wasn't a fan of crowded places.
They got their drinks and caught up as they usually would about their week. They were almost finished when the band walked up the stage and music started playing. Even before the first note, one look at their outfits made clear what kind of music they were going to play.
They had an interesting aesthetic, y/n had to admit. They wore the same colour but each member had their own style. The band was made up of four guys, the bassist had long straight hair and he looked a lot like the singer who instead had curly hair, the drummer had short curly light brown hair and y/n couldn't see what he was wearing past a black vest while the guitarist had black hair that was all over the place and wore glasses.
They had an androgynous aesthetic, each of them with beautiful makeup in tones of black and grey and the ones y/n could see clearly were wearing a sort of body. They looked stunning. Y/n had decided she liked them based on this alone. She had to admire anyone who had the guts to express themselves freely especially when it was in such an open and unapologetic way of going against gender norms.
After half an hour, the music stopped and after the singer wished everyone goodnight and they all climbed down. As she expected, they played rock music ranging from soft rock edging pop to hard rock that made her think a lot of ACDC. Y/n wasn't an expert in music but she had liked what she heard and wouldn't mind listening more from them. She was sure that she was going to catch some of their songs on the radio in the future.
However, Jules picked up the conversation where they had left it before the concert and decided that it was the time where she'd complain about her recent love interest. Each of their weekly meetings had one of this moment. Unfortunately, it looked like Jules didn't have a lot of luck when it came to guys. And as it always would, she wondered if she was the problem asking y/n if the reason every one of her relationships failed because she was unlovable. As if.
"That's not true, I truly believe that you can learn to love anyone. Lest you get to know them, of course."
"Of course you'd say something like that."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"If you truly believe that, then you're not going to say no to this." Jules wriggles her eyebrows suggestively and y/n knew that the night is either about to become very interesting or about to go very wrong.
"The expression on your face is telling me that I should definitely say no to what you're about to say."
"Oh c'mon, it's just an innocent dare. Nothing too crazy, I promise."
"Which is?"
"You see that guy leaning on the bar? Long black hair with the black leather jacket?" Y/n turned around indulging her friend and eventually spotted the guy she was talking about. She took her time to look at him until she realized something that made her whip around to face Jules again.
"You mean the singer of the band?" y/n asked incredulously.
"Isn't he handsome?" Jules smiled wide completely ignoring the look y/n was giving her already knowing what was going through her friends' mind. "I want you to go to him and ask him out."
"What?"
"C'mon", Jules complained reaching out to y/n over the table, "didn't you say that it was possible to love anyone? Can't you see yourself loving him?"
"That's not the point," y/n exclaimed still not believing that her friend was suggesting something so outrageous. "Can you see him loving me?" Because that man over there had "heart breaker" spelt all over him. And okay, y/n had to admit that this was a rush judgment she was making and it wasn't exactly fair but there was no way that a guy like him could be interested in a girl like her.
And yes, we could stay here and discuss all the reasons why that statement is wrong but still, if she were to put herself out there -something that was not like her at all- she wasn't going to go over someone so out of reach for her. And that was that.
"Listen, do you remember that video you sent me the other day?" Jules squared her shoulders, now looking fully serious at y/n. Unfortunately, y/n did remember the video Jules was talking about. She would have never guessed it would come back and bit her in the ass otherwise she'd never sent it.
Sighing, y/n looked down at the drink in her hands and thought about it. The video basically encouraged the viewer to go up to what they believed was the most beautiful person in the room and tell them exactly that. It may sound a little silly but at the time y/n had appreciated the sentiment. Going out of one's comfort zone. Challenging yourself. Because, what was the worst that could happen? That person shotting you down? That didn't sound life-threatening. Now though, y/n wasn't so sure.
"Worst case scenario, just tell him I'm calling you and head back here." Jules offered, almost as if she could tell exactly what her best friend was thinking.
Looking at her best friend, something snapped in her. Jules was right. What's the worst that could happen? She already knew that the guy was going to shoot her down. She was prepared. It was a dare, a silly thing that could give her a story to tell to her nephews one day.
What the hell, y/n thought squaring her shoulders.
"You know what?" she downed the rest of her drink and got up from her seat, "I'm doing it." Looking in the reflection of the tissue box on the table to check how she looked, she fixed her smudged lipstick and ruffed her hair before nodding solemnly at Jules and turned around.
As she made her way to the bar, she could hear Jules cheering on her fueling her sudden confidence.
The man of the hour was there where she saw him last. Her steps faltered as she realized that she had no idea how to approach him. What was she going to say? Oh my god, she was totally going to make a fool of herself. If she was not going to die for his rejection, she sure is going to die of embarrassment.
She was almost about to turn around and abort the mission when his eyes met hers.
Well, fuck. There was no way she was going to back down now.
She regained her confidence and smiled at him while closing the distance between them. She smiled at him. Who was she? Did someone drug her drink?
He smiled back at her, turning so that he'd be facing her once she reached him and she almost stopped to pinch herself to see if she was hallucinating or something.
"Hey," she said once she stood in front of him. Good, she thought, let's start with something simple.
"Hi," he smiled back at her.
Okay, okay, it's going good, isn't it? He hasn't ignored me, that must mean something, right? Yes, that he wasn't a rude asshole was her sobering thought.
"So," y/n started trying to take to time while she figured what to say, "I saw a video the other day," was what she ended up with.
The handsome stranger lifted his eyebrows in amusement and took a sip of his beer. Y/n took that as a "go on then".
"There was this woman that basically dared anyone watching to go up to the person who they thought was the most beautiful person in the room and tell them exactly that." Well, let's just get it out of the way, I guess, she thought. "So, here I am," she added as if it wasn't clear enough.
However, as she saw the man's smile widen, y/n suddenly realized how really screwed she was. This man was way out of her league.
"Well, now that I'm here, I should also mention that you've really good at what you do too."
"Not to sound rude or anything," he spoke for the first time that evening and y/n had already decided that he had been the gods' favourite in another life before he opened his mouth but now? as he heard his low and raspy voice? she was sure he had been at least a demi-god, "did you lost a bet or something?" he asked, his grey eyes boring into hers like he was looking into her soul.
Who was this guy? and why was she feeling like this? Get a grip, y/n, she scolded herself.
"Is it that obvious?" y/n's shoulders slouched as some of the tension left them, a nervous laugh leaving her mouth.
"I saw you downing your drink like it was some kind of bravery potion before you came here," he explained with a light scroll of his shoulders. "Not that I mind though," he added with what should be an illegal smirk. Smug.
"Yeah, I'm sure you've heard it countless time only tonight." Let's joke on it, she thought, there's still a chance I can come clean out of this mess.
He chuckled and, not leaving her eyes, he slipped a hand through his loose hair pushing it back. "I meant that if you hadn't come I would probably found an excuse to come up to you too." He leaned back onto the bar looking completely unbothered, not as if he had said something that made her feel on fire.
"Looks like I've to thank your friend for my luck." Looking over your shoulder, he held one of his hands up and lightly waving at Jules, y/n figured.
"Yeah, let's not tell her that or I will never hear the end of it." Rolling her eyes, y/n also leaned on her arm resting on the bar next to him. Whether it was the fact that all the cards were on the table or that what he said meant that he had to somewhat like her, she felt more relaxed than a couple of minutes ago.
"Before I make this solemn oath, I think it would be appropriate to know your name, don't you think?"
"It's y/n," she held her hand up for him to shake. However, he had something else in mind since when he took hold of her hand he turned it and held it up to his lips to leave a soft kiss on it. Y/n  almost rolled her eyes at the gesture if it wasn't for his eyes. They didn't move from hers and she found that she didn't want to stop looking at him. Like she was in a trance. Yes, he was handsome, even more so up close, so of course he was nice to look at but that wasn't why. It's the way his eyes glimmered as they watched her, the gentleness with which he was holding her hand, the softness of his lips on her skin. What would they feel like on her lips, she wondered.
"I'm Sirius."
And that's how it all started. A silly video sent almost automatically to her best friend and an outrageous bet made y/n's night definitely interesting. To her luck though, Sirius became a permanent presence and not a one-night sensation.

Summary: It’s not really an unplanned pregnancy if you planned it once - even it was twenty years ago, right?
Or the road leading to James and Lily’s baby number two. (Part of the Jily Lives AU)
Note: To be edited later with a link to AO3 as soon as this gets a title. Edited with the link to AO3 if you prefer. Also, this time there is mention of Sirius and Remus being alive because after the last one, I felt guilty.
Warning for... mentions of sex. That’s how babies are made after all.
_________________________
They are in bed, Lily’s head over his chest while he caresses her hair, both still recovering their breaths when she first talks about it.
'How do you feel about another?'
James raises his eyebrows.
'I don't know if I should be happy you enjoyed so much you already want more or if I should be concerned you are not satisfied, Lily'.
'What? No -' she giggles, turning in bed to stare at him, her auburn hair floating around her. 'I meant about another child'.
James is silent for a few seconds, considering it.
'So that means you are not satisfied'.
She rolls her eyes, but James can see the amusement in her face.
'In bed with you, yes, I am', she assures, placing a soft kiss on his chest, over his heart. 'But about kids, I've been thinking about it'.
James bits his lips.
'You know how I feel about it', he whispers.  'I hated so much being an only child that I found myself brothers as soon as I could'.
'Yeah and you did propose to me mentioning how you would like a house full of kids - enough to fill a Quidditch team, if I remember correctly'.
'I was babbling, afraid you were going to refuse me! You know you can't use someone's desperate proposal against him'.
She smiles softly.
'So you don't want a bunch of children?'
He touches her hair once more, keeping his eyes on the auburn strands, and it comes to his mind that he would like a child with that gorgeous hair of her.
'I do. Maybe not seven, but I don't want Harry to be an only child. It's just -'
He doesn't finish, but James knows he doesn't need to. Harry is just fifteen months old, an unplanned child in the middle of a war they are not close to winning and, truth be told, if James and Lily had more sense, they would not have one child, let alone another one.
And there is the fact that their only son is already too much involved in this war.
'Hey', she cups his face. 'Let's plan together'.
There is a pleading tone in her voice, and he knows that what Lily is asking is hope - for better days, for a time where they can have more children without worrying about what will happen to them.
He looks back at her and when their eyes meet, his heart beats faster. It should be silly considering what they were doing minutes ago and how he possibly cried in very colourful words that he loved her, but this is one of those moments where time seems to stop and he realizes, with a wave of electricity running through his body, with a certainty that leaves room for no doubt, that he loves her with all he has.
That’s why they are together, that’s why he asked her to marry him. Not because he feared for the future, not because he was desperate to enjoy as much time with her as they had left.
But because he loved her since what seems always now, and he won’t deny any hope for Lily, not when he's been living on it.
He kisses her softly.
'Let’s plan’, he agrees. ‘I think… maybe four kids would be nice. Two boys, two girls'.
She smiles.
'Well, we can't plan that'. Then Lily throws him a knowing look. 'You are thinking about forming a new group of Marauders, aren't you?'
He smiles unabashedly.
'Just think about family photos. Each one of our kids dresses as one of the Marauders. It would be the cutest thing ever'.
Her eyes shine, seeing beyond him.
'It would. Fine, four kids. We will need a bigger house'.
'We can expand the house, you know. My dad always said he thought of creating a new wing here; there is plenty of land'.
'Two rooms to begin with. They can share until they are older'.
‘Sirius always slept in my room when he came over’, James remembers fondly. ‘We almost burnt the house once or twice, I must warn you’.
‘Consider me warned. Petunia and I had separate rooms, but when I was younger -’, she pauses suddenly, and James can see the concern on her face. ‘What if they don’t like each other?’, she whispers.
‘They will’.
‘You can’t know for sure, I mean - you see how Petunia is with me. And Sirius can’t even talk about Regulus, what if -’
‘You are worrying too much, Lily’, he says gently, kissing the top of her head. ‘Maybe they will best friends, maybe they won’t. But I’m sure they will be family no matter what’.
She looks thoughtfully, but after a minute she nods.
‘What about next year? Harry will be two, it’s a good age gap’.
‘It would be nice. We can start practising now if you want’.
‘I thought we already did’, Lily winks at him. ‘But we can repeat tomorrow’.
‘Halloween fun?’, he smirks. ‘Will you be wearing a costume?’
‘Only if you do - and no, your antlers tiara doesn’t count’.
He pouts, making her giggle and kiss him until his expression relax.
‘Hey, Lily’, he calls her, his voice resounding with the hope he associates with Lily. ‘Let’s have another child’.
___________________
When Harry is five and he starts Muggle school, it comes to James that his son has been lacking other kids in his life. It’s not that he is lonely - he couldn’t be, not with James and Lily always there for him, not with the almost daily visits from Sirius and Remus, but he suddenly wishes there were more children in the house.
Now, he can’t count on Sirius or Remus to help him with it - both of them seem to avoid relationships like the plague, though for different reasons -, so he rounds Lily while she is in her office preparing a potion.
‘James?’, she calls surprised, when his arms embrace her from behind and he kisses her exposed neck (James loves when Lily is making potions because she keeps her hair on a bun and he has a weak spot for her neck). ‘This will explode if I don’t stir it’.
‘Let it explode’.
‘It’s a Draught of Living Death, we will turn into zombies if -’
‘Let’s make a baby’.
That makes her take her wand to freeze the potion and turn to him, with a funny smile.
‘Is that a weird way of asking for sex? If so - you used better lines before’.
‘No, I mean, sex is good too and most necessary, but I mean it, Lily. Let’s try for another kid’.
Lily blinks.
‘Why now?’
‘Why not now? Harry is still young, we are definitively young, what’s keeping us from having more?’
She bits her lip, thoughtful, and James feels suddenly dismayed.
‘Unless you don’t want anymore?’
‘It’s not that, I want it - it’s just, with everything that happened -’
‘I know, it slipped out of my mind too. But now, we are living in this peace for a while…’
‘But it won’t last, will it?’, she whispers as if she feels guilty of even thinking about it. ‘Dumbledore says he isn’t really dead and when he returns -’
‘Maybe he will stay hidden forever, maybe he is too weak to try anything’.
She smiles sadly.
‘Every time I look at Harry’s scar I know that something will happen, James. That’s not a normal scar, that means something, and I get scared’.
‘Hey’, he hugs her. ‘As long as we are together, we can face anything - didn’t we prove that before?’
‘Yeah, but - is it fair? To put someone innocent in the middle of our mess?’
‘It was not fair with Harry, but we managed. We can do it again’.
‘James…’
Lily looks at him and James sees she is not convinced, not really; he knows Lily enough to understand that she is rational - she likes to think first, whereas James is always the more impulsive. They complement each other. He takes her to fly, she remembers him to come back to the ground.
And he understands what she means, even if he wishes things were different.
‘You are right’, he sighs. ‘At least for now, until we see how things really are’.
She smiles, touching his face with fondness.
‘I want it, I really do. Don’t forget it’.
James kisses her hand on his face.
‘I won’t. In fact, if you want to start practising now -’
____________________
It’s just because the house is empty now that Harry is off to Hogwarts that the subject returns; they don’t exactly talk about it. James just sees Lily is not taking her potions anymore - they look at each other, understanding passing between them (one of the benefits of being married for over ten years) - and then suddenly and simply as that they are trying.
It feels a little weird to actually hope for once that something comes out of their moments together, but it’s Lily. He forgets everything when he is with her, focusing on just enjoying her company and touches and how they made each other feel.
But time passes and nothing happens. It’s been only three months, it’s nothing unusual, and Lily mentions seeing a doctor when the owl comes to tell them how someone jinxed Harry’s broom on his first Quidditch match.
That doesn’t seem like a good sign.
When they return home months after, in June, after seeing Harry all bandaged in the hospital, after hearing him talking about coming face to face with Voldemort, they don’t say anything. He buys the herbs for Lily and she is not surprised when he gives them to her.
There is no need to talk about it.
____________________
Most of the time their lives are full of things happening and Harry is always at the centre of a storm, so when James thinks about it, Lily was right. He can’t imagine facing dementors and going back to the Order with a young child to be cared for.
He can’t imagine how their child would be a target, how vulnerable and defenceless their child would be, without a love protection, without a prophecy somehow binding its fate. They made the right choice of postponing their second child.
That’s the rational part of him that suddenly vanishes the moment he sees Lily holding baby Teddy Lupin in her arms for the first time, that cute fat baby that giggles at her, closing his eyes for a minute - and then his blue hair turns as red as hers and his eyes are bright green.
It’s like a mini-Lily and suddenly James wishes more than ever that this war is over soon - or that it had never even begun because he can see that other life, the one where there was no Voldemort. Instead, James and Lily’s lives are filled with more children, happy shining kids whose worst problems are passing their school exams and not surviving. The life he always wanted for Harry.
His eyes meet Lily’s and she smiles at him, offering him to hold Teddy. It’s been forever since James held a baby, but he still remembers, not really forgetting all these nights he took care of Harry. Teddy is a quiet baby, smiling at him too, his hand raised to try to grab his glasses.
‘He is perfect’, he whispers, looking to Remus. His friend is beaming - James understands that happiness that comes with holding your child for the first time, with seeing that miracle in the shape of a baby that you swear to protect with all your heart.
‘Of course he is’, Tonks says cheerfully, while Remus hugs her, holding her close to him as if he doesn't believe he gets to be this happy.
James understands the feeling of living that light bright moment right after coming out of the darkness. There is nothing like that.
He returns Teddy to Tonks when he starts to whimper for his mother, and then he looks at Lily.
Her green eyes are filled with longing for a life they promised themselves they would have, and also a little bit of hurt. How did they lose sight of their dreams?
They both know the answer but it's not a comfort.
Later, when they apparate back to their hiding place - a sorry little apartment where they pretend to be a normal boring couple -, they don't wait to turn out the lights and they don't say anything before their lips are meeting, and it's desperate and harsh as it has not been for a long time.
Somehow James feels like they are making up for a lost time that won't go anywhere and that they can't retrieve anyway.
It doesn't matter.
When they first married all they had was their love and dreams. They still love each other and for those dreams - they will accomplish them.
________________
They never speak out loud but somehow in the aftermath of the last battle, it feels right that they get a new beginning just as everyone else is having.
It’s all about rebuilding - Hogwarts, then the wizarding world - the Ministry, the Aurors, organising a system that was clearly outdated - and their home. It's a long process and in the middle of it, they forget about worrying, about planning; they just go with the flow and somehow it works without they even meaning to.
Lily has this weird expression on her face, one that seems to mix disbelief and amazement as she turns to him one morning and says as if the most natural thing:
‘James? I think I’m pregnant’.
That’s the first difference from their first time. Now he is the one that leaves for the pharmacy while Lily prepares a potion - they will test twice, just to be sure - and they are together while they wait for both tests to tell them if her feelings were right on the spot.
They are.
There are two lines on the muggle pregnancy test and the potion turns blue and suddenly like that they know they will be parents again.
She hugs him then, her eyes filled with tears of pure joy, laughing when she sees James is really crying now.
‘I love you so much!’, he declares brightly, kissing every part of her face that he can (but with care, because a pregnant Lily always seems fragile to him, no matter the fact he knows this is not true).
And it feels that this is what he should have done the first time, when she first told him about Harry. They should be happy and only that. No worries. That’s the second difference.
There are parallels too, James thinks. Harry’s shock at the idea his parents will have a baby reminds him of Sirius’ reaction as if he can’t possibly understand how that happened (somehow, despite running into them a couple of times, Sirius still got shocked with the fact they made sex). Lily is as sick as in her first pregnancy, so the first months are mostly spent at home too.
And just like back then, Sirius comes to visit her every day he can, careful to bring her anything she may want to eat and offering massage to her feet that Lily doesn’t need to, but she enjoys anyway.
‘I can still see my feet, Padfoot’, she replies teasingly, lying lazily on the couch of the living room while Sirius' hands work their magic on her right foot. James winks at her.
‘Just enjoy, Lily. He is trying to get into your good graces. He wants to be named godfather again’.
Sirius nods unabashedly, grinning at her.
‘Remus is the next in line’, Lily says, shrugging. ‘But keep with that massage and we will think about you if baby number three ever comes’.
‘Still without a name for baby number two?’
‘You need to stop calling young Prongslet by numbers’, James scolds without any malice.
‘We are not calling Prongslet either, James’.
‘Of course not, Lily. It will be Elvendork’.
Lily rolls her eyes.
‘Not this again’.
‘It’s unisex!’
They indeed refer to their baby as Elvendork just because it’s easier than calling “it” or “baby”, and Harry throws confused looks at them, looking concerned that his new brother or sister will really be called that, though Lily assures him this won’t happen.
But the truth is that they really have not decided on a name, haven’t even discussed yet seriously until they return from the doctor with the news it’s a girl (James cried with this news just as he cries every time they go to the doctor and he hears the baby's heartbeat or even that shape in the ultrasound that it's not really discernible).
They are on the bed, with James looking wondrously at Lily’s now round belly and imagining their little girl (maybe that mini-Lily he once thought of, maybe a little Harry, maybe a little James - it doesn’t matter, he already loves her), when he whispers: ‘We can’t call her Elvendork’.
Lily throws him a surprised look.
‘Oh, no! Poor Elvendork!’
He is too enamoured with her to retort.
‘Did you think of any names?’
‘I have a list of names’, she admits. ‘But none of them feels right’.
They go together through her list; there are beautiful, weird and creative types of names, but as Lily said, none seems to fit yet.
Of course, they don’t lack ideas. Everyone seems to have an opinion.
Sirius is all for the stars, of course (but James thinks he is teasing, though some of them sound nice), and Harry suggests female heroes.
‘What about your mothers?’, Remus suggests, when he and Dora come over for dinner. Lily is sitting on the couch, playing with Teddy. The boy is four now, and he seems fascinated by Lily’s big belly - he had been too young when Fleur was pregnant with Victoire, so this is the first time he is really seeing a pregnant woman and understanding what it means.
Teddy already refers to the baby as his little cousin, sounding proud and excited to meet her.
‘Rose would be a good name’, Lily muses, but still it doesn’t seem to be what she is looking for.
At this time, with only a month away until their baby is born, James considers they are hoping that looking at her face will be enough after the birth - if not, he will just cry the first name that comes to his mind when they sign her birth certificate.
He only hopes he manages not to sign Elvendork. Lily would kill him.
‘I wouldn’t go for Euphemia’, he declares, shrugging.
‘As someone who has an outdated name, I second that’, Dora says, grinning at him.
But Lily looks at both of them with her brows furrowed, and James knows there is something on her mind. She doesn’t say anything until they are alone later.
‘You know, I think Remus might have the right idea’.
‘Liked Rose after all?’
‘No, actually, I thought about your mother’.
Thinking of his mother brings to James that smell of fresh-baked pie, the warmth of her hugs - she had always been there for him, to listen and to guide him - and not just him. She had been a mother to Sirius too and even to Lily in the few months they had together before she passed away.
He smiles softly.
‘I miss her, but Euphemia is not - ‘
‘It doesn’t have to be Euphemia. Your father called her Mia, right? We can do something like that’.
‘Mia Potter?’
‘I thought of Amelia. And we could call her Mia, for short. Like Teddy or Ginny’.
‘Mia Potter’, he repeats, savouring the words.
‘Amelia Rose Potter? In honour of both grandmothers?’
James beams, hugging Lily and letting his hand feel her belly. ‘I love it’.
The baby seems to like it too, because in the next second Lily is wincing and James feels the baby kicking.
‘You know what, Lily? I think Mia will be a great Quidditch player too’.
She sighs exaggeratedly.
‘I only wish she could wait to start training when she is out’.
_____________________
Because fate sometimes is funny, Mia Potter is born on Halloween Night and the first time James holds her he is wearing an antlers tiara that he forgot to take off and that no one warned him about.
Later he will probably hex Sirius when he teases him about it, but right now he just sits next to Lily on her hospital bed, and she beams at him despite her tiredness.
‘We did it’, she whispers, sounding amazed, and James understands the feeling. They are in their forties, they lived through two wars, they raised a magnificent young man and here they are holding their second child, a tiny baby who seems unbelievably perfect in every sense.
One minute, James thinks. Let us enjoy this one minute, just a little.
When the minute is over, he returns the sleeping Mia to Lily’s arms and goes to open the door. Harry is pacing in front of the door, looking agitated as James felt all during the labour, even though he never left Lily’s side.
‘So? Can I see my sister now?’
‘And my goddaughter?’, Sirius pops in, grinning. James laughs.
‘It’s Remus’ goddaughter, and, yes, you can come in. She is sleeping’.
They get around the bed, with Sirius hugging Lily and declaring her the most amazing woman in the world (‘Are you drunk, Padfoot?’ ‘Yes, I was nervous! ‘You won’t hold Mia until you are sober’), and with Harry touching the thin strands of dark hair on his sister’s head, looking at her as if it’s the most precious thing he has ever seen.
James thinks he was wrong about that selfish minute he spent alone with Lily and Mia. Seeing Harry and Sirius cooing about the baby, he realizes this is the kind of one minute he wishes to have more in his life.
‘Do you want to hold her?’, Lily offers, and Harry nods, unable to look away. He sits on the chair right beside the bed and James helps him hold his sister. She wakes up, crying, and for a moment Harry seems to be in panic until he raises and swings her softly, just like he used to do with his godson.
‘Hi, Mia’, Harry whispers. ‘That’s ok. There, there. I’m your big brother, you see? I’m here for you’.
There is a soothingly effect on Harry’s voice and after a few minutes, Mia seems to relax indeed, her crying turning into a sob that seems to be more because of the unfamiliar world she is now in than anything else.
‘She has your eyes, Dad’, Harry says, smiling. James looks back at his daughter and, more than the hazel colour that looks a lot like his, he sees the way she seems to be curious about her surroundings as if she wants to see all the world has to offer.
Mia has indeed his eyes.
____________________
Mia is three when Ginny calls her and Mia comes with an expression of guilt that tells James she has done something she shouldn’t. That doesn’t really surprise him. He saw his daughter running with Teddy and Victoire and whenever those three are together, something always seems to happen.
Most of the time involving some kind of petty mischief that gives James very much hope for his daughter.
‘It was not my fault’, Mia declares, looking sheepish.
‘I am sure it was Teddy’s’, Harry says, sharing a grin with James, because whenever they are discovered, Teddy always declares himself to be the guilty one, even though James can see exactly when it was Victoire (with her exuberant ideas) or Mia (with her direct-to-the-point ideas), clearly feeling it’s his role as the older of them.
‘It’s okay, Mia’, Ginny assures her tenderly, offering her arms and Mia doesn’t hesitate to go sit on her lap.
Mia loves her parents, adores Harry but it’s Ginny that she worships. Like with the broomstick: Mia learnt to fly at one like Harry, who gave her her first broom, but it was just last summer when they took her to watch a Quidditch game, where Ginny had scored sixteen goals that Mia had declared she wanted to be a Chaser when she grew up.
James had shaken his head in fake dismay at the fact his daughter had not been impressed with his Quidditch skills, but he didn't really mind: any reason he could to spend afternoons flying with her was good for him.
'We have something to tell you', Ginny says under Mia's concentrated look. Lily exchanges a smile with James; they already know, but hearing it again just makes them happier than words could describe. 'You are going to be an aunt'.
She blinks.
'Like you are?'
Ginny smiles.
'Do you know what an aunt is?'
'I know that Vic calls you Aunt, but Teddy calls you Ginny'.
'Well, I am Vic's aunt because Vic's father is my brother'.
'Like Harry is my brother'.
'Yes, so you are going to be an aunt because Harry will have a son or daughter'.
'Oh!' she looks at his brother, clasping her hands. 'With whom?'
'With me', Ginny explains while everyone laughs. 'Harry and I will have a baby'.
'Oh. Like Aunt Fleur had Dominique?'
'Exactly'.
'I like babies', Mia declares. 'Where is the baby? I want to meet him!'
'In a few months. He or she is still… not ready'.
'Oh'. Mia seems upset, then she shrugs. 'Can I play outside until then?'
Ginny laughs and places a kiss on Mia's cheek.
'Sure. We will call you when it's ready'.
'Mia', Lily calls, sounding amused. 'Do you know how Harry takes care of you?'. Mia nods. 'That's what an aunt does too'.
'Can I take the baby to the park too?'
'When he is older', James assures her. Mia smiles, her hazel eyes sparkling.
‘I will be the best aunt ever’, she declares, and then she is running outside (Mia can’t walk - she only knows how to run), back to Teddy and Victoire.
James watches her through the window, talking excitedly to them, probably telling them all about her news.
'I think you will have a handful with them in the future'.
'Me?', Harry laughs. 'If McGonagall doesn't retire by the time your child and grandchild are both in Hogwarts, I will be surprised'.

Mia’s name came from @blitheringmcgonagall cute amazing stories of Mia and Monty Potter, and the final scene is some sort of answer to @dear-james ‘s prompt of James and Lily knowing about James Sirius (to be properly answered some day, I hope!)

Amortentia
warning - none
main couple - Severus Snape x reader
warning - sad and happy memories, conversation to resolve things, fluff, a little bit of irony, sacasmo, doubts, some kisses , Implicit obscenity , hot moments and cursing (possibly)
Summary - It takes place at the time of the goblet of fire. You are a teacher who studied with Snape and Sirius' sister, Dumbledore asks you to help Severus and with what he does alone, feelings are put on the table
Tumblr media
I was going to dungeons, I would only spend the whole night with the most unpleasant person in the world, Severus Snape, since when we studied together we had hatred of each other, the best I could not describe as hatred, nor do I know exactly where this came from bitterness on both sides, it may be because she is the sister of one of the people he hates the most, Sirius Black but I was also the sister of Regulus, they were best friends, I can't explain it properly.
The night would be long, Dumbledore asked me to help him finish faster because we would have a ball to plan, I go downstairs listening to the bubbles in the portions, a magnificent smell of herbs and coffee greets me when I get to the door. I think about knocking but it was already open, I see the figure of the man from the back, I knock on the door to warn that I had arrived:
- Ah you're late!
- Ah, good night Severus, sorry I had some setbacks, if you understand me. I speak by going to your table. - Ok, you're already here, I don't understand Dumbledore I asked the Muggle study teacher to help me!
He snorts, adjusting the scrolls and a box with all the potions we have to analyze.
- I must remember that you were not the only one of your time to be the best in potions! I speak with an ironic smile. - But I was one of the only ones that managed to pass the level of alchemy!
He speaks looking at me, for a moment I thought he was going to melt me with that look, I couldn't deny that Snape was a man I would go out with, he is robust, he has a muscular body despite his clothes not showing and still had the air of a domineering man, who left anyone without walking for a week. I swallow, I think of an answer but nothing comes out, as an alternative to get out of this subject, I ask what type of potion would be analyzed.
- So, what are we going to see here?
Before answering, he lets out a nasal laugh, because he liked that I was speechless.
- Amortentia.
I take one of the bottles to analyze the contents.
- I thought you were not the teacher who liked to see his students in love during class. My tone is playful, but I get a cold response. - Dumbledore's idea, he wanted me to help him at the ball, he asked me to spend some easy time to stay that didn't take too much of my time besides that it was a potion that I was extending.
- Ah yes, so where can I start?
- Take some scrolls and smell them, you know what the point is to write them down. I sit on the chair in front of him, pick up a parchment, a quill and the inkwell starts to smell the potions, I start to write about the smells of dampening that were not pleasant.
- Snape, tell me why your students are so ...
- Bad?
- Of course I'm not talking bad about your work. I speak by finishing analyzing Dean of Griffinoria's fourth year. - Sometimes I want to retire when I remember that!
I laugh, taking his attention off the parchment.
- What?
- Nothing, you really give me that image that at the first opportunity you would leave here and isolate yourself from the rest of the world! I speak, leaning over the table. - You are sure about me just about one thing.
- Maybe, we studied practically our whole life. I speak staring at the. - You are a year younger than me!
- Even so, I know because of Lily, she told me. After saying that I remember that I loved or still love her. - Why would she tell you that?
- I don't know, Severus! I speak a little nervous, it was a lie I had asked Lillian to find out what his problem was with me and she told me about the family, I was sorry for him because I knew how to have a troubled family. - And what do you think of me?
- What? He fumbles when I ask. - What do you think about me? I talked about you, now you.
-Oh you, you were the girl who lives in a rich family but still suffered from the pressure of her mother and was expelled from home, she lost the people she loved most, a brother who died and another who disappointed her. So she became a teacher so I didn't feel alone, but she still hopes to start her own family. I remain silent, looking at the paper for a minute, how could I describe myself so well. - Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you.
- No need to worry, you told the truth, it was very difficult for me, I never thought it would happen. I speak by dropping my quill and looking at him. - Life is injustice!
- Yes, Snape wanted to apologize to you. I'm ashamed of someone I should have done a long time ago.
- Why ?
- Because I didn't defend you from my brother, James and Peter, and worse that I knew you and was Reg's best friend, but you acted in bad faith with me, but I didn't do anything because I knew what you had said to Lily , I had practically no right opinion about you.
-I think I should apologize too, I always saw you with Sirius and James, I thought you were there with Regulus to play like them, now I realize that you are different from Sirius and his gang, Y \ N!
- NakedI never thought that just two hours together we could make up for so many years of evil looks and splinters! I laugh frankly. - I think the external factors have affected our relationship a lot!
- You are less stupid than your brother!
- Which of the two ? I ask in a malicious tone. - Obviously, Sirius, I think nothing will replace Reg but you are a little cooler than him!
I frown, crossing my arms.
- A little? If I remember correctly, two years ago, I made you burst out laughing when Lockhart asked me to go out in front of all the teachers and I dumped him and at the dueling club I faced him and played in the other half of the main hall.
- That was so good! He laughs, I hold my head in my hands. - I said, don't say we haven't had a good time, I have a list!
- When we were young we only had fun once. He speaks with a smile on his face. - I remember that day, we played a prank on Filch, blamed the Griffins.
- Lucius and Narcissa were sometimes worse than us who were the youngest!
- Yea ! I agree by remembering the five young men running down the hall on the second floor hiding in a broom room. - Where's a bathroom, do I need to go?
- Over there at that door. I get up and go to the bathroom to do my needs and when I leave I smell so good.
- Finally, a potion that works, is from Miss Granger! I stop beside her to try to distinguish the smells, coffee, herbs, old books and woody scent.
- What a good smell, it was a while since I smelled my shock!
- So it is .
- What does your dampening smell, Snape? I ask. - Ah hot chocolate, dog hair, molasses pie and sweet citrus scent and yours?
- Coffee, herbs, old books and woody perfume.
When I finally think about it, I was in a place surrounded by herbs and old books with a man who, since the moment I entered, drinks coffee.
- Snape ... He gets up, for a moment I realize how small I am of him. - I smelled your perfume!
- Me either . My mouth is ajar prepared for any action by Snape, but his hands go to my waist pulling closer to him, his lips touch mine.
My arms are around his neck, his hands squeeze my buttocks making me gasp and as a consequence I squeezed his shoulders.
- Sev, please, we need to finish this! I groan when one of his hands goes over the buttons on my dress. - We can be quick, but I won't insist if you don't want to.
- Snape, I want you, but I don't want you to be quick, I want you to fuck me until I can't walk!
- I never thought I would be such a slut, I won't be able to wait!
- I can stay later, if you want. I speak in a sensual tone, with my eyes closed he kisses the curve of my neck. - I love you, y \ N!
- Me too, Snape. He lets go of me, still panting, looks at me while I get ready. - What it was ?
- When ?
- I already had a crush on you when I was younger, more intensified when in the fifth year that I started working, and you?
- Even if it doesn't seem like it, I had an interest in you when we were in seventh grade, but you were my best friend's sister and on top of that you went with Sirius and James, I thought you were with Remus.
- Remus and I never did anything happen even if I wanted to. I speak in a bold tone .- Even though I thought I wanted you to fuck me before.
- Every time you say that, I think I can't take it.
- We waited so long, because we can't wait now!
- Because I can have you between my legs now. He pulls me, making me sit on his lap. - Then let's finish this!
- I decided that I will give good grades to everyone. He speaks, his hand trying to find my bare skin beneath the fabrics of the dress. - Are you sure, Severus Snape?
- Yes, now my attention is all yours. He gets up, taking me on his lap and already taking possession of my lips, we enter his room. The night was busy, but thanks to a dampening I realized that the love of my life was with me all the time.

Remus moved tentatively as he climbed over Sirius, doing his best not to wake the other man. He wasn’t quite sure when Sirius had arrived, a vague memory of a muttered apology sometime during the early hours of morning surfacing, but he’d been asleep and barely registered it. He huffed a laugh at how Sirius had burrowed himself under the sheets, his inky black hair the only thing visible. The bed really wasn’t big enough for the two of them, and as much as Remus loved Sirius, his boyfriend leaked heat like a furnace. Still, soon the campers would be here and the two of them would have to set an example by not sneaking into one another’s accommodation so Remus savoured the company whilst he had it.
The air had already started to hold a damp heat when Remus stepped out, despite the amber hues of sunrise barely having lifted. A sweet breeze gave some welcome relief as he picked up a steady job, his muscles slowly waking to the chirping chorus of birds he couldn’t identify even with their daily meetings. Remus almost missed the flash of red hair hidden behind a tall pine tree, except for the hushed laugh that drags his attention away from a feisty squirrel he’d paused to watch. He rolls his eyes at the couple, an act he acknowledges is highly hypocritical considering the origins of his own relationship. The two kissed again, drawing the owner of the rough laughter into view and Remus startled. He peered closer, confirming his first observation - that was Kasey Winter, but the person he was with was most definitely not Natalie Darcy, Kasey’s girlfriend. Ordinarily, Remus would pretend he hadn’t witnessed anything, writing the situation off as none of his business, only both Kasey and Natalie were good friends of his. He pushed the dilemma to the back of his mind for now and pressed on with his run.
The work day had seemed unusually long, Remus learning the cruel lesson that even the most adored job became tiresome when you wanted to be somewhere else. Placing the final package of dressings in their drawer, Remus ticked the item off his checklist with a flourish. He looked around the nurses station, giving a satisfied nod and a self congratulatory smile; the place was really starting to come together. Now that he was finished for the day, Remus rolled his shoulders, letting himself relax.
Without the distraction of inventories and paperwork, Remus’ mind wandered to thoughts of Sirius. A phone call from a panicked parent needing reassurance the camp could, in fact, accommodate her child’s allergies had lasted long enough to result in him taking a late lunch, so Remus hadn't had a chance to talk to his boyfriend all day. He knew he could find Sirius in the drama studio, his phone having buzzed earlier with a message informing him of the fact Sirius would be there for the entire afternoon, only he didn’t want to alienate him from the other counsellors by spending all their time together. Traipsing back to the cabin to change out of his uniform, Remus shook off the doubt. There was a time for balance, but it wasn’t the day after your boyfriend reunited with their sibling after years apart.
Both Sirius and Heather jumped at Remus’s knock on the heavy wooden doorframe, the pair deep in conversation. “Oh, I believe that is my cue to leave,” Heather smiled, the expression settling something in Remus he hadn’t even realised needed settling.
“Thanks for all your help today, Heather.” Sirius accepted the broom she handed to him. “Both with this,” he continued, gesturing to the room around him, “and for the advice. You should consider a career as a therapist. Trust me, I should know.”
“Here I was antagonising over my future and Mr Sirius Black solved it in one afternoon,” Heather laughed, sticking her tongue out playfully. “It was no problem, way better than sorting out the games’ equipment shed, anyway. I can’t wait to see what your tiny theatre kids do in here.”
“They’re not tiny, they’re middle schoolers.”
“Exactly, middle schoolers. Tiny,” Remus agreed, stepping into the studio. It smelt of polish and other than a pile in the centre of the floor, any evidence of the years worth of dust that had been allowed to gather was gone.
“The key is not to let them know you think that,” Heather winked.
“This isn’t my first year, you know,” Sirius grumbled, his accent thickening the way it always did when he was even mildly inconvenienced, “Get out of here,” he shooed Heather off. “And talk to June! I definitely saw heart eyes this morning.”
“Well then, you need your eyes testing,” Heather retorted, leaving with a raised eyebrow and a peppy wave.
"Bonjour, mon loup,” Sirius sang, gathering Remus in his arms. At 5”11, Remus wasn’t even short, but Sirius could still easily prop his chin on the top of his head, albeit only briefly. A short breath of air left Sirius’ mouth, almost but not quite a laugh, and Remus found his chin being lifted for a kiss. "Come on, let's go and sit by the lake. I'll tell you everything."
Remus schooled his expression into the most innocent he could manage. "I was just going to ask how your day was."
"Sure." Sirius laughed properly now, the both of them stumbling slightly as he tried to nudge Remus' shoulder. "You're practically vibrating. Thought I was supposed to be the intense one?
“Sometimes it’s my turn,” Remus smirked, pointing out a large, flat rock in the distance that seemed like an ideal sitting place. Sirius nodded, letting Remus guide their slight change in trajectory to head towards it. “You know, you don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to. I will always be interested in your life, but if you want this to stay between you and Regulus then I completely understand.”
Sirius flicked his gaze over to Remus briefly, the smile soft on his face. It reminded Remus of when they had still been dancing around one another. Long evening walks where their hands would brush, just barely. Looking back, he didn’t know how they had lasted so long before that almost inevitable kiss. One thunderstorm and two leaking roofs, that was all it had taken in the end. “I know,” Sirius shrugged. Those were the last words he said until they reached the low slab, a once rugged thing that had been smoothed out by a lifetime of exposure. Remus thought there must be something poetic in it, but he was too tired to figure it out.
The quiet lasted long enough for Remus to figure Sirius had changed his mind, playing their hands together as they looked out onto the water.
“They live in California now, they’re here to teach archery and they are non - binary,” Sirius breathed out the sentence, the words blending together and his accent thick, but Remus was practised enough to decipher them.
“California? That’s a long way from Montreal -” Remus toyed with the sleeve of Sirius’ t-shirt. “ - How’d they end up there?”
Sirius' face crumpled a little, quickly gathering himself. “They were staying with a friend of our family’s there, Severus. He always seemed nice, nicer than the rest of their crowd anyway, but it turns out he’s no different to the rest of them. Regulus is trying to get out of there.” A sheepish smile spread over Sirius’ face. “I might have invited him to live with us. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I should have asked first. They were just so worried and -”
“Hey,” Remus squeezed Sirius's hand. “I’m not going to pretend that a consultation wouldn’t have been nice, but it’s your house -”
“It’s our house,” Sirius frowned.
"The house was bought with your money and I can completely understand and appreciate why you offer a roof over your sibling's head without question."
Sirius played with the necklace, a silver lion, hanging around his throat. Remus lifted his hand to touch its twin, draped around his own neck. "Just like that? Even though I've spent every mention of them detailing how much they had hurt me?"
Turning to face Sirius more surely, Remus gave a comforting smile. "Do you trust them?"
There was a brief pause, but the "yes" that followed was sure and confident.
"That's good enough for me," Remus said. "Shall we go and join everybody for dinner? There's apple pie tonight."
Dinner ended up being the usual ruckus that Remus had become re-accustomed to over the past few days. He loved the way the dining room thrummed with the same energy that radiated throughout meals with his own family. Thomas and James' dares grew more and more ridiculous until Sergei barked at them that he wouldn’t allow them any more BBQ if they did not calm down.
“ -Yeah, so ma Maman had to come and collect me. I think I lasted 5 hours,” Jackson finished his grandiose retelling of his first experience at camp.”
“Nado!” Evgeni set his glass down with a heavy thud. Remus had learned the tall Russian man had the gentlest of spirits, but grace was not an attribute he possessed in large amounts. “Why you go to horse camp if scared of horses?”
“I was 8,” Jackson argued. “I had never seen a horse in real life. It just looked fun.”
Once the rippling laughter dissipated, the conversation evolved into useful hints of tips from those of them that weren’t new on how to handle similar situations with their own campers.
“Hey, Katie,” Remus leaned over Sirius to address the youngest of the Dumais’. She had only arrived yesterday along with her siblings and Sergei’s wife and children, but she’d made herself right at home, squeezing herself between Sirius and Logan, who she had declared her favourite, instead of joining the rest of her family at their table. “Can I steal Sirius please? I need to show him something.”
“It’s time for Katie to go with Anya back to our cabins,” Celeste interrupted. “Viens, ma chérie. Tu peux revenir demain matin.” Katie left with a pout to a round of goodbyes.
“What did you want to show me, mon loup?” Sirius cocked his head curiously.
“Nothing,” Remus admitted sheepishly. “I just wanted to get a good spot under the pavilion before everybody else finishes and comes outside.” Sirius rolled his eyes, letting Remus tug him into a standing position. During camp, the small structure would serve as a meeting point and could fit a dozen or so people in when they were standing, but it was pretty full with Sirius’ 6 foot 3 form sprawled across it, there wasn’t much space for anybody else, and this was Remus’ favourite spot. He could lie under the shelter, a little less exposed to the biting insects that seemed to love him so much and still see everybody on the green around them.
Soon, the space would be filled with eager children, and Remus would be constantly poised to treat the next ailment, but at the moment, he was content to watch this year's counsellors get to know one another better. He was an old hand at this now, however, he could remember the bristling excitement as his first training week had drawn to a close, the knowledge that he was soon to be responsible for people who didn't seem all that much younger than he was, both terrifying and exhilarating.
The sky had been threatening rain for hours now, and it finally fulfilled its promise.
“My hair!” Finn’s screech broke through the chorus of rain. The blonde boy, something in the back of Remus’ brain supplied him with the name Leo, immediately tucked Finn against his side, throwing his jacket over his head. Remus wasn’t sure whether their shaking was as a result of the damp seeping through their clothes or the pair’s laughter.
Remus had always enjoyed people watching, noticing the subtle intricacies of human behaviour when they didn’t realise you were looking, so he caught Leo’s small glance up at Logan just before he put some space between himself and Finn.
Finn wasn’t having any of it though, dragging Leo back to him, attempting to get the small jacket over the top of the both of them.
"Do you see that?" Remus lifted his shoulder, jostling Sirius slightly.
Sirius grunted, the annoying chime of the game he was playing sounding loudly as he progressed to another level. Remus had given up on complaining, and the repetitive nature of swiping candies across the screen seemed to relax Sirius more than it bothered Remus. "See what?"
Leo was standing now, his t-shirt soaked through and his hair plastered against his face in damp strands. Remus couldn't quite work out what he spluttered before walking off with long, quick strides, one last quick look at Logan as he went.
"There's something going on there,' Remus hummed.
"Stop meddling," Sirius laughed.
"I'm not meddling!"
Sirius turned a raised eyebrow on Remus and tucked his phone into the pocket of his jacket before pulling them both down so they lay on their backs. "Listen. I love the sound of the rain."
Remus knew he was being distracted, but the thudding rhythm of heavy droplets against the wooden slats of the rood was incredibly relaxing. Or at least it was until the sheeting downpour didn't stop and they had to dart through it, laughter heaving in their chests to meet the others in the large hall. Celeste sighed, bundling towels into their hands to dry off.
"Nice of you to join us, gentlemen," Dumo said, a guitar propped in his lap. "Take a seat. We were just about to teach our newcomers a few campfire songs. Sans the fire, of course. As two of our most experienced, maybe you could lead?”
“Je te hais,” Sirius grumbled.
Dumo ignored the declaration, and once they were seated he smiled. “Perhaps we will start with Everywhere we go?”
Despite an early reluctance from Sirius the sounds of the song were soon echoing off the walls, the group of counsellors enthusiastically answering Sirius’ calls.
Everywhere we go
Everywhere we go
People always ask us
People always ask us
Who we are
Who we are
And where we come from
And where we come from
So we tell them
So we tell them
We’re the Lions
We’re the Lions
The mighty mighty Lions
The mighty mighty Lions
And if they can’t hear us
And if they can’t hear us
We shout a little louder
We shout a little louder!
Dumo was lenient, taking over leading them through a few more songs himself until he faked a large yawn. “Well, it’s bed time for me. I’ll leave the guitar for anybody who wants to play. And remember, no matter how much we try to teach our campers such fun songs, they’d rather learn whatever routine is popular on Tip Top or whatever that thing is called, so be prepared!”
Logan commandeered the guitar quickly, holding it strong against his thigh and strumming it with a relaxed ease Remus wasn't sure he'd seen in the man before. He played through a few songs, others slowly filtering out as time went by until only a handful of people remained.
“Do my song, please?” Finn asked, eyes wide and pleading.
Logan shook his head, “Not here.”
Finn’s lower lip dropped into a pout and Remus saw the exact moment Logan succumbed to the expression. Remus didn’t blame him at all, Finn’s face bore an eerie resemblance to Bambi and only a monster could deny it.
“Fine.”
The slow chords started and the room quieted as Logan began to sing. It was more romantic than Remus had expected from the younger man.
And you can tell everybody
This is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in the words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world.
Logan and Finn were so invested in one another that Remus wasn’t sure they noticed Leo slipping quietly from the room.

Tumblr media
It had been a year- a very long year- since that fateful day at Hogsmeade where you finally convinced Regulus to let his brother- and by extension his brother’s friends- help him stay alive. Of course with Regulus now working as a double agent for the Order it was getting harder and harder for the two of you to spend time together. He was a skilled enough Legilimens so that You Know Who wouldn’t have a clue but around you, everything went away. You were, and still are, his one weakness. That’s why sitting across from him after the Order meeting had ended, telling everyone about his plan to replace the horcrux you knew you had to act.
“Reg,” you reached your hand out to him hoping the physical contact would make him look at you for the first time in weeks, “can we talk?”
He still wouldn’t look at you completely but he nodded, so you took that as an improvement.
You pulled him aside hoping that nobody would disturb the two of you, “Mi amor, can you please look at me? Please?”
His eyes shifted down and caught yours and the second they did you realized why he hadn’t looked at you before- he was terrified and you were the only person he showed any emotion to. You threw yourself into his arms hoping that at least the physical comfort might help a bit. His body tensed slightly at first since it had been quite some time since the two of you had touched only to relax completely, as if his body were putty. One of his hands went to your lower back while the other ran itself through your hair, his face hiding in that little spot in your neck. You swore you felt something wet but honestly you didn’t care… you finally had Regulus in your arms.
“I love you so much Regulus. I hope you know that, and I’m so proud of you,” you started your little speech. “But please for the love of everything good in the world don’t push me away- not now. I need you, I need to feel your heartbeat in the morning and need to be able to run my hands through your hair. I need to hear you read poetry to me on the weekends and hear you sing those French songs in the shower. I need to see you lying next to me when I go to sleep at night and when I wake up again in the morning. Please stop doing this.”
He nodded again and his hold on you tightened even more, “I’m sorry my love. I’m sorry for pushing you away and for hurting you in the process. I just- I worry that someone will figure out who you are and what you mean to me. And if it weren’t for this war, we’d probably already be married and I’d have found us a beautiful flat to stay in and you would have an amazing job with the Ministry. And I want to have that with you, but I can’t- not until I finish this.”
“We can at least start it- our plans for the future,” you pulled away slightly so that you could look at him, “Let’s get married… tonight.”
Regulus at first look bewildered but understand where you were coming from. After all tomorrow he’d go on a mission where he could basically end up dead, so if anything were to happen (fingers crossed it doesn’t) then at least the two of you would be married.
“Ok, but who will officiate it?” You could see the light in his eyes that had dimmed over the past week, reignite itself.
“Um…” you looked around the room where you all were, “I think we can get Remus to do it, and we have enough people here as witnesses.”
Regulus nodded his head and turned around to face the others in the room. They had seen the two of you talk for quite some time now but out of respect had decided not to eavesdrop, although you had made it difficult for them to even try in the first place.
“We’ve decided we want to get married tonight,” the announcement was met with excitement.
After a little bit of coordinating, you were whisked away by Lily and Sirius while Remus and James helped Regulus get ready. You were quite surprised when Sirius said he’d be with you but in his words “I want to finally spend some one-on-one time with my soon-to-be sister-in-law. Plus Regulus won’t let me touch his hair.”
Thankfully, you had a dress hidden away from several months ago when you were given the chance to go to muggle London. It wasn’t a white dress but that fact seemed to make it even more unique. You were soon helped into your dress and your hair put into a beautiful updo. You didn’t have any flowers to hold or a veil in your hair, but you still felt like you were a princess.
When you were finally ready, and everyone else in the house was dressed up, you were led outside to the backyard. With just a little bit of magic, small lights filled the air between you and your love. Lily, who had become something of a sister to you since you arrived, walked you down the makeshift aisle.
By the time you had met Regulus, tears had started to fall from your eyes and you could see that the same was happening with him. There was not a dry-eyed soul in the vicinity.
After that, everything became a blur… at least until you got to the vows. When Regulus started to read his, you weren’t sure if you would be able to make it through yours.
My love,
Since the very first day we met I knew you would be someone important to me. Even at eleven years old, you were quite good at reminding me when I was acting like a pretentious ass, but I wouldn’t want anyone else in the world calling me out with the sass that you do.
I think we can all agree that you are my better half. Whenever I look at you all I see is light, absolute pure light. You make everything around me seem so much better and you’ve taught me what it means to be a good person. I don’t think I would even be here right now if it weren’t for you.
You are everything I wish to be and more, my love.
Your hands trembled as you pulled out the paper with the vows you had written one day, with the plan for them to be used much much later.
Mi amor,
I can’t imagine a life where I wake up without you by my side. You’ve taught me what it means to be resilient and determined, especially in the face of fear and evil. And what love looks like. I mean to me you are the definition of true love.
When I think of us and what we’ve been through I think of all those moments we had together, where it was just about us. There is no one else who I’d want to sass at some point in my day, and there is no one else who I would want by my side when I fight.
You may think that I’m your better half, but to be quite honest it’s the opposite. Being your friend, and then your lover, you have taught me so much that I can’t possibly put it into words even though I tried.
I can’t wait to start our future together, mi amor.
By the time you had finished, everyone had started to sob. That night as much as worry filled the air, so did love. When Remus finally said the words “you may kiss the bride” Regulus had almost swept you off your feet- not that you minded.
The two of you were led back inside where your new marriage was celebrated with day old cake and some left over wine. You didn’t care though, all you felt was happiness and hope that tomorrow would turn out okay.
For the first time in weeks, Regulus and you slept together in the same bed. You didn’t do anything that night except hold one another in your arms and whisper I love yous throughout the night. The next morning, you were thankful to have woken up first, being given the chance to see your husband look so peaceful was something that you loved. Your husband, there was something about even thinking those words that set a fire in you.
When the time came, Regulus and you went down to the kitchen where you would wait with the others for his return. It was a nerve-wracking several hours, so much so that Sirius had to grab you by the shoulders to stop your pacing.
Finally, Regulus appeared close to death and you weren’t sure whether to scream or cry. You rushed over to him, a mere heap on the floor, and with some struggle lifted him into the sofa. Your hands didn’t stop moving until every cut was sealed and no more blood was pouring out of him. By the end, you had to be dragged towards the bathroom and have your hands cleaned, not wanting to leave Regulus alone.
5 days. 5.
That’s how long it took for Regulus to wake up. By then every Order member knew not to bother you as you sat by your husband. Sirius would sit with you occasionally and would constantly make sure you ate and drank water… something about how his little brother would kill him if he found out that nobody had made sure you were okay.
When those grey, stormy eyes opened, the tears that you had held back when he arrived broke through.
“Sirius!” You called out, “Sirius! He’s awake.”
You had to hold yourself back from simultaneously tackling Regulus out of happiness now that he was awake and hitting him out of anger for almost dying.
The two brothers spoke in private as you were sent to go drink some water. You weren’t sure how long you stood there, leaning against the counter until you saw Regulus out of the corner of your eye holding himself up with the doorframe.
“What are you doing up?” You rushed over to him, “You should be lying down.”
“So this is the first thing I hear from my beautiful wife,” he smirked slightly.
“Oh- if you were expecting me to be mad, I am. I am very mad at you,” you cupped his cheeks with your hands, squeezing them slightly, “but I’m also very very happy that you’re alive and standing in front of me. So this is what you get.”
Regulus wrapped you in his arms and although he told you he was fully healed, the face he made told you otherwise.
Some days later, Dumbledore stopped by and told you that it would be best for the two of you to flee. You Know Who has gotten word about a traitor in his midst and Regulus’ absence had made him a suspect. The two of you packed your things and then spent that night together with your little family that had formed in the past year.
You all cried, laughed, and screamed one last time. Then Regulus picked up your bags and wrapped you up in his arms.
“One day,” he started, “when this is all over. We’ll come back. I promise my love.”
With a pop, the two of you disappeared into the night, heading to who knows where to start your new life together.

Hii! I absolutely adore your fics and I love the idea of James and Sirius dating but everyone else being totally oblivious and thinking they’re just really close friends! I was wondering if you could write a story about it if it’s not too much bother ヽ(o♡o)/
When Regulus and Sirius hadn't been speaking, Regulus had made it a point to not know things about his brother's life. He wasn't part of the family, Regulus didn't miss him, and that meant there was no need to pay attention to Sirius's life. It certainly hadn't hurt that with Sirius over in Gryffindor and Regulus in Slytherin, he would've had to work to know anything about Sirius. As far as House politics were concerned, Regulus shouldn't have wanted to talk to him anyways.
But then he graduated and left home too, and him and Sirius started talking. It meant that Regulus had a lot to catch up on, and since some of it had been going on for years, Sirius didn't think to mention it. He hit the high points: living with Potter ("You should call him James, Reg.") and working in some muggle garage to bang around on automobiles and motorbikes. Regulus didn't see the point in him working there were there were any number of spellcrafters that would kill to have Sirius working for them, but part of their 'getting along' pact included Regulus not giving him advice. Sirius likewise wasn't allowed to give Regulus advice.
All of this was to say that Regulus knew he had missed out on a few things, but he'd really thought that Sirius would've told him that him and Potter-- ugh, James-- were shagging now. It wasn't a surprise, but he still would've liked to have been told.
Regulus had his arms crossed over his chest and was stewing about it while he waited for Sirius to show up. Lily was the only other one there yet, and they were waiting for everyone else outside the restaurant-- muggle, of course. He'd even dressed for the occasion, though that had been both at Sirius's insistence and galleon when he'd taken him shopping.
"So, Regulus," Lily said. "How've you been?"
"Fine. And yourself?"
"Also fine. It's been pretty fine all around, I guess."
She was making an effort to be nice to her, and Regulus knew that if word got back around to Sirius that Regulus hadn't at least made an attempt to reciprocate, he'd never shut up about it. "Yes. So er, how long have Sirius and- James been dating?"
"They're not."
Regulus blinked and looked over at her. "Pardon?"
"They're not dating."
"They most certainly are."
"Did they tell you that?" Lily asked.
"Well no, but it's obvious."
"That's just how they act. It's how they've always acted, but they're not together."
He blinked at her some more. "Is this one of those jokes you people make that I don't understand?"
"No, I'm not joking. They're really close, so it looks sometimes like they're dating, but they aren't. Trust me on this, Regulus. They're not together."
He didn't want to insult her, so he just blinked and said, "Any idea when everyone else is supposed to show?"
*
He thought about what Lily had said and her insistence that it was true-- that there was absolutely nothing romantic going on between Sirius and James. Given that Regulus had heard Sirius call him "the absolute love of my life" more than once, he wasn't willing to believe it.
Also he'd gone over to visit and walked in on them snogging. Several times. Honestly, it's like they couldn't stand to keep their hands to themselves.
"Sirius?"
"Yes, dear brother of mine?" Sirius said, because he liked to see all the ways he could annoy Regulus while pretending to be nice.
"You and James are dating right?"
Sirius perked up. "You called him James! And yes, we are."
"Why does your friend Lily think you aren't?"
He frowned. He was always so expressive. Regulus didn't know how he managed all that emotion; he got tired just thinking about it. "Lily thinks that? Are you sure she wasn't messing with you?"
"She said she wasn't. She seemed pretty convinced about it, actually."
"That's weird," Sirius declared. He didn't seem very bothered by it, and why would he be? Lily and his other friends didn't need to believe that they were dating for it to be true.
"Can I tell her that she's wrong?"
"Do whatever you want, mate." Then he paused, shooting Regulus a suspicious look. "Within reason."
Regulus rolled his eyes. Sirius was always so bloody dramatic, and with practically no reason for it.
*
"Did you know that our friends don't know we're dating?" Sirius said as they got changed for bed.
"How's that possible?" James asked. "We literally live together, in a one bedroom flat."
"Do they know that it's one bedroom though? They've never been here before."
"Sure they have."
"Where was I for that?" Sirius asked.
"I dunno. Work, probably." James swooped over and gave him a quick kiss before heading to the toilet so he could brush his teeth. "Doesn't really explain why they don't know, though. How'd you find out?"
"Regulus told me."
"How did he find it out?"
"Find out that we were dating? Or find out that apparently, no one else knows?" Sirius asked.
"The second one," James called, his words slightly muffled from talking around his toothbrush.
"I dunno. He said that him and Lily were talking, and she said that we weren't dating."
He spit in the sink then said, "Huh. That's pretty weird. I mean, it's not like we've been hiding it or summat. At no point have we tried to hide it."
"Right? Like, remember when we first got together, and we talked about it?"
"Yeah, and we thought that it never would've worked and they would've just gotten pissed with us for not telling them sooner."
"Sounds about right," Sirius agreed. "Does this mean we have to tell them?" He didn't much like that thought. If they didn't know that him and James were shacking up by now, that was their problem.
James snorted. "Hell no. It's their own fault they don't know. I bet we make it all the way to our wedding day before they figure it out."
Sirius considered that for a moment. "I'll take that bet. If Regulus brought it up once, he'll do it again now that he knows he's right."
"I don't think he cares that much."
Sirius didn't feel like explaining that while Regulus didn't care, he liked to be right, and that would be plenty to help motivate him. Sirius wouldn't even have to say a word to his brother about the bet; Regulus would go off and do it all on his own. "How bloody long are you going to stay in the washroom?"
"Why, you afraid that I'm going to find a new not-boyfriend to spend my time with?" James said, snickering.
"You think you're so funny."
"I am so funny."
Yeah, he was, but Sirius wasn't about to tell him that; he knew it anyways.

Here's a prompt for you.
Draco and Harry are dating and taking it slow (no one is aware & they started dating after the both of them had begun to go to therapy and heal a bit) and while they've together for a year (now its not somethin that either of them hide but they also dont go out and pronounce anything) they find an orphanage in the muggle world and they hang out with the kids and end up falling inlove with between 1-4 of the kids over time and both the Weasley's and Malfoy's find out about their relationship when they show up with their newly adopted child/ren.
"I thought you knew we were together"
"We thought you were becoming friends Harry!"
Draco saw the kid first. Not that it matters, but Harry claims that it was all his idea when, in truth, Draco saw the kid first and immediately knew what was going to happen. This is Harry, after all. Draco could have distracted Harry, insist they took the other exit of the restaurant, anything. But he did none of that because (don’t tell anyone this) Draco Malfoy might have a heart of his own and he was curious about the kid sitting under a lamppost with a book.
His names is Liam and he was doing homework. There is a lounge in the orphanage where, theoretically, children can do their homework. But the place is very noisy and there are some older kids who pick on Liam. Unless it’s raining heavily, Liam prefers to be outside where he can have some peace. He could go to the library and he usually takes refuge there, but it closes early on Fridays.
They had just had dinner, but they go back to the restaurant so Liam can work at a table where is warm and well lighted. The waitress gets Liam extra bacon in his sandwich and doesn’t charge them for it.
Harry surprises Draco because he doesn’t immediately take Liam with him, even though it’s clear that’s what he wants to do. He does say he would like to visit Roberta Clark’s Children Home and looks softly pleased when Draco says he will go with him.
They have been together for almost a year now, soft and tentative and careful because they both want this and are afraid to ruin it with a false step. They have just started to talk about living arrangements, although in a very vague way. Tonight, however, Draco begins a ruthless campaign against Harry’s house which is well located in London, yes, but it doesn’t have a garden unlike Draco’s house in Virginia Water, and it has one less room than Draco’s (not accounting for the music room), and it’s very dark. Draco can’t imagine children growing up happy here. Poor Sirius. And poor Regulus.
Harry is pissed, which is further proof that he needs Draco in his life because, Morgana, is he easy to read and manipulate.
That Thursday the two of them visit Roberta Clark’s Children Home where they are welcomed by the rudest social worker to ever plague the Earth. The deputy Director isn’t much better. She doesn’t like it when Harry points they have mold on the walls, all twenty-three times.
(This is one of the many reasons Draco loves him. For a hero of the light, Harry is a terror).
Draco walked in there knowing fully well they were going to adopt Liam, hence his campaign for the Virginia Water’s house because no child of his will grow up in Grimmauld Place. Children who grow up in Grimmauld Place become unhappy adults who die before their time. Draco thought that maaaaybe Harry still believed he was only going to show an interest in the institution and hand them money to improve the living conditions; but Draco knew there was no way Harry would leave Liam in there. The kid is eleven! An orphan! Harry can lie to himself all he wants. He will be Liam’s legal father inside a month.
What Draco didn’t expect was to get a child of his own.
Her name is Jamie, JamieTheGirl. There is a boy named Jamie and simply Jamie, not JamieTheBoy, because Jamie is a boy’s name. This is explained to Draco in a rush, with a mixture of pain and bratty attitude that speaks to him directly. JamieTheGirl hates her name, her haircut, the horrible dress she is forced to wear and Mister Gladwell, who is the rude social worker. JamieTheGirl wanted to know if Liam is lying, because Liam said he knew them (them being Draco and Harry) but Liam is eleven and everybody knows that nobody wants kids older than ten. Seven is best. JamietheGirl is nine so she could still be adopted, but she has been informed by multiple sources that nobody will ever want her because a) she has a bad attitude, b) she has a boy’s name and c) she is not cute enough.
“My name is Draco,” is all Draco can say. He is already vowing to hunt down those multiple sources who told Jamie she was less than perfect. “It’s not a bad name but it’s not a good one either.”
JamieTheGirl agrees.
Now that they are going to adopt two children it’s all the more reason to live in the Virginia Water’s house, which has more room and a very nice garden. They can always apparate the kids to their school in London. If Harry refuses to apparate (sometimes Harry exhibits some very weird ideas about magic and luxury) Draco will get a car. Not even a magical car, and actual muggle car. He will buy one and take the kids to school. Actually, they should go tomorrow to check the house and start the arrangements.
Harry stares at Draco. He is sitting on the kitchen counter in his stupid house in Grimmauld Place, eating Chinese food from the box as if he weren’t a filthy rich man, hero of the wizarding world. Draco loves him so much.
“What do you mean adopt?” Harry says.
“Oh, like this was going to go any other way.” Draco says, rolling his eyes. If the place had merely been overcrowded and noisy Harry would have contented himself to play the benefactor role and pay for renovations. But there was mold in twenty-three spots, the social worker made Snape look charming and evidently none of the adults in charge had any idea of what the children were going through and, even worse, what they were getting up to.
Draco knows Harry. It is a mere question of how quickly they can get the paperwork ready.
“I’m still going to do something about the place.” Harry argues, of course he does. He won’t simply take a kid and forget about the rest. But he is already thinking of all the wonderful things he will teach Liam. Draco can see it in his eyes.
They get married two weeks later, for the paperwork, but in essence they got married that night when Draco laid the rest of their lives before them and Harry realized that Draco knew him better than himself and that he still wanted to be with him.
They move to the Virginia Water’s house in early January. Liam can’t believe that he has been adopted, so he takes the fact that they are both wizards in stride. The adoption is much harder to believe than the fact that people can do actual magic. Also, he has his own room. His. With a door that he can close. The fact that he doesn’t have to hide his books so they won’t be stolen takes enough of Liam’s attention that he can’t worry about such unimportant things as magic.
JamieTheGirl is both easier and harder. She is easier because she desperately wanted to be out of the Children’s Home, and harder because she is naturally distrustful and very intelligent. Not to say that Liam is not distrustful or smart, but he is old enough to be jaded. Liam expects something bad to happen and he is willing to take it. He, like Harry, is stupid enough to believe that he can take new abuse if he also gets some comfort in exchange.
(note: Draco is going to piss on Dumbledore’s grave).
The first month is difficult, but once both Liam and JamieTheGirl act out and see there are no bad consequences, that they are not beaten or returned to the Children’s Home, they settle happily. JamieTheGirl asks to have her name changed, please, she will take a constellation name if they want to, just let her have a different name. They are enrolled in a new school and Draco buys a car and hires a chauffeur who happens to be a squib and there is no need for Harry to look at him that way.
Things are good.
It’s cold outside, the garden is dry and ugly, it rains nonstop for two weeks… but everything is good and nice. If Sean were here he would have something interesting to say about it. Everything in Sean is ugly, but he knows how to take the painful things and make them sweet, and he would know how to put into words that the world outside the house is ugly right now, but it’s also nice.
Draco feels Harry go rigid at the same time as him. “Who?” Draco says calmly just as Harry asks “What?”.
Sean is an ugly case. He was adopted when he was eight but he was returned a few months later. Nobody knows why although there is a lot of speculation. He often got himself beaten in school and once by Mister Murphy (“Who?”, “It doesn’t matter, he doesn’t work there anymore”, “Give me a detailed description of Mister Murphy, please”.) He is fifteen now so nobody will adopt him and Mister Gladwell says he will amount to nothing. Despite what Mrs Oxley says (Mrs Oxley is the deputy Director) Sean is not a criminal. He goes with bad people, sure, but he never stole Liam’s books and he even showed him a couple of hiding places. He is not bad at all.
On Friday they welcome Sean home. Just at the same time Mr Gladwell, Mrs Oxley, Mr Murphy and a criminal gang from the South Bank all suffer completely coincidental and unrelated accidents.
Sean is a young criminal. He is tough and hard, actively cultivating a mean strike and horrifyingly traumatized.
He is also deeply protective of Liam and Jamie. It’s heartbreaking.
Fortunately, Harry was also deeply traumatized at his age. It’s a horrible thought to have, but for once Harry is grateful for all that pain because he knows how Sean feels, he understands, and he can help.
No, Sean can’t have a wand or try magic. Yes, he still has to go to school. No, he can’t take the car. No, no smoking and no drinking either. Come along, you are going to take fighting classes.
Which might seem counter-productive. Do not teach the young delinquent to fight, yadda, yadda. Harry spent all of his fifteen year wanting to punch someone and Sean has this freaked-out look in the eyes that says he doesn’t trust Harry or Draco and that he wants to protect Jamie and Liam. The fighting classes make him feel more in control and they mellow him. Also, by the third time Draco has a tiff and demands to talk to the headmaster about Liam’s class placement, his math grades, Jamie’s English grades, and just-what-did-that-woman-insinuate-I-swear; something visibly relaxes in Sean.
(Not even Liam knows what his Biology teacher said that upset Draco. The next week they have the lovely Miss Quintrell instead and the whole class is happy so Liam doesn’t question it).
And suddenly it’s March and Ron’s birthday and there is a celebration at the Burrow. Harry arrives with his family and a well-structured explanation of how he is now the legal father of Sean, Liam and Possibly-Berenice (they are still trying names). He is really good at it. He gives a simple step by step account of the process, with helpful asides and clarifying details, everything. There is just this one thing. A small detail, really. An assumption that is not supported by reality.
“Mate, I’m very happy for you,” Ron says. “We all are. But, you never mentioned you were dating Malfoy and I believe I speak for everyone when I say it’s a shock.”
And, to be fair, nobody can say they are actually surprised that Harry showed up with three orphans. But Malfoy, well… Malfoy is something else. They thought Harry was merely befriending him, or possibly adopting him like he tried to do with Neville. The dating thing is a big mental shift.
“We are married,” Draco says, and then, at their stares, more quietly, “it was more convenient? For the paperwork?”.
There is a lot of “Harry Potter you did not get married without telling us” and “Harry Potter how could you just get married without a ceremony” and “you know we have been developing these party fireworks how could you do this to us” and Molly red-faced, waving a finger, “did you tell your parents, young man?” and it takes everyone, everyone, thirty seconds to realize she is not addressing Harry, but Draco, and Merlin’s pants, he did not, he didn’t tell them. Draco married Harry, moved with him and adopted three kids and his father doesn’t know, which goes a long way to ingratiate Draco with everyone, because Lucius Malfoy has not heard of this.
It also has the unexpected but very welcome benefit of making Sean laugh. Liam says Sean hasn’t laughed in years.
(And of course less than a month later the three kids have a hand-knit sweater, of course they do. Possibly-Berenice’s has a pattern of stars, pending her choosing a permanent name).

dreams are my reality - part 2
here is the second part! i only have two things to say: 1) i’m sorry there’s no plot and it seems like it’s a mess and 2) i know the book thief has been written after this period but let’s pretend it’s not the case.
As usual, feel free to like, comment, reblog and enjoy!

~ a wondrous world where I like to be ~ The night had been short to say the least. As soon as Harry had fallen asleep, James had convinced Lily to allow a bottle of champagne to celebrate appropriately the announcement. Somehow - and my brain was way too cloudy to figure out how - something had happened just after the bottle of champagne and I had been one of the first to fall after an undetermined number of firewhiskey bottles. I had opened my eyes after someone had called for me a few minutes ago to find myself in Harry’s room, lying on a mattress on the floor next to the chair that looked too uncomfortable, even for Lily’s frame.
“By Merlin’s pants-” I gasped as soon as my eyes fell on the chaos downstairs. I took a few steps, barely avoiding stepping on Remus’ hand when he moved it. “So that’s the glorious marauders? And here they were thinking they were cool…” I muttered.
Something suddenly grabbed my ankle and I jumped before realizing Sirius was holding it like a teddy bear, a content smile plastered on his face.
“If only I had a camera!” exclaimed Lily not so discreetly, waking the four sleeping guys up in the process. “Definitely the funniest moment of the party,” she added with a smirk as James was looking for his glasses, still half sleeping and half drooling.
The next one to make his entrance was Harry, and if Lily and I had a bit of consideration for the massive hangover that was hitting Sirius, James, Remus and Peter - mostly because we were being hit too - it wasn’t the case of the little boy, and he made it very clear that it was time for Remus to play with him.
“Not now…” the latter moaned weakly, and Harry found comfort in his mother’s arms.
“Guess it’s time for me to bring the coffee!” she said with a smile before disappearing in the kitchen.
I took place on the couch, which for some reason wasn’t occupied, and Sirius dragged himself next to me. Burying his nose in my hair, he took a deep breath before moaning dramatically.
“My head! I swear I’ll never drink again!”
“That’s already what you said last time, Pads.” objected Peter, who made a face when he found something that looked like a piece of cheese in his hair. “And the time before.”
“And even before if I’m not mistaken.” added James.
“I thought you were on my side.” groaned Sirius, and I chuckled as he moaned again.
Even the coffee didn’t help my poor fiancé’s headache, and he left us around noon to get some sleep in Harry’s room, claiming as loud as he dared he would get sick before joining our own home. Not very long after, Remus and Peter decided they would leave, Peter because he was exhausted and wanted to sleep until the end of the following week and Remus because no matter how hard his hangover was, he had to prepare a meeting at the ministry for the following day. After a last congratulation hug from the both of them, they thanked Lily and James for the party - “Almost as cool as the one we threw when Lily and I got engaged, I know!” - and disappeared.
After a moment of not knowing if any of us was brave enough to move from the couch, Lily eventually got to the kitchen to make something for Harry to eat and James took his courage with both hands to clean the mess we had left. I was ready to help him but he decided otherwise, waving his hand above his shoulder and telling me I should join Sirius and get some sleep too.
“But nothing dirty in Harry’s room, you hear me?” he added with a smirk, and a roll of my eyes made him laugh.
Harry’s bedroom was upstairs and down the hall; this way, even the noise of the regular parties we threw at the Potter’s couldn’t bother the boy when he was sleeping. I opened the door, careful not to wake Sirius up as I knew how grumpy he could be. There was no risk to disturb him in his sleep though for the simple reason that Sirius was wide awake. The room was still in the dark and he was sitting on the mattress on the floor, holding something I only recognized when I sat next to him. It was a little stuffed bunny, and even though I couldn’t see it properly I was pretty sure it was grey.
“Are you okay, love?”
Sirius stayed silent and didn’t move for a while, before eventually slowly moving his left arm to wrap it around my shoulders. I sighed in relief, only realizing at this moment that I had been holding my breath. I knew what it meant: Sirius wouldn’t close himself, it would probably take some time but eventually he would tell me what was wrong. My eyes fell on his hand, the one holding the bunny. If Sirius was usually a master at hiding his emotions, his closest friends knew how to read him, and knew that the only way he always betrayed how he felt was through his hands. They were stiff when he was trying not to kill someone, trembling when he was terrified - even though it was rare - and clenched when he was on the verge of being submerged by his sadness. At the moment, he was tightening the bunny so hard that his fingers were whitening.
“I just… I just wish Regulus was here to celebrate with me. Not my parents, I know they would never accept but Regulus… If only things hadn’t turned out the way they did…”
I knew there was nothing I could say, and I knew Sirius wasn’t waiting for me to say anything. He just needed someone to listen to him, and I was that someone. That’s also what our future mariage meant: I would always be there to listen to him. We didn’t share any other words; instead we laid down on the mattress and closed our eyes, snuggled in each other’s arms. It’s only then that I realized something: Sirius once told me that he had bought something for Regulus’ third birthday when he was a child. He had bought him a grey stuffed bunny. I raised myself on an elbow and laid a gentle kiss on his forehead. Already asleep, Sirius smiled.

If I hadn’t seen the last crime scenes in this muggle village by myself, I would have never believed something bad was happening here. It was the most calm looking place I had ever visited. The sun was shining through the trees that were bordering the paved streets. Definitely the kind of place I wanted to spend my life in, if only there wasn’t a bloodthirsty death eater hiding there.
“This bastard could be everywhere.” muttered Remus through his clenched teeth. “For all we know, he could be watching us right now.”
I was sitting with Remus at a table on the patio of the local pub with Sirius and Peter only a few tables away from ours. James and Lily were walking on the path around the church, and the six of us were looking for the death eater. Despite the distance separating ud, even I could see that Lily was agitated, as usual when she had to let Harry to the muggle babysitter that was so kind. To be fair, James didn’t seem very calm either.
“They’re going to get us caught if they keep biting their nails like this.”
Sirius’ voice made me jump, and from the corner of the eye I caught a glimpse of Remus removing his hand from his wand. Sirius and Peter had grabbed two chairs and were sitting next to us, but the table was so small that my left knee was touching Sirius’.
“You really want to get killed?” I hissed as quietly as possible. “Because that almost happened, you idiot!”
Not in the least impressed, Sirius shrugged.
“If you want my opinion, something is wrong here.” he said with a quiet voice.
“You mean except the death eater part?” asked Peter absent-mindedly as he was looking at a bird that was walking on the ground, pecking at whatever he found between the tables.
“I mean it’s too calm, even for a muggle village. Like the calm before the storm, you know?”
It was never a good thing, but Sirius was right.
“Y/N, love, let’s get married.”
I looked up almost absent-mindedly from the book I was reading, wanting to know if, yes or no, Rudy would eventually make Liesel fall in love with him.
“You know you’ve already asked me that, right?”
“As a matter of fact, I do remember it.” Sirius appeared in front of me, grabbed the book I was holding and tossed it on the coffee table before sitting next to me on the couch. “What I meant is: let’s get married as soon as possible. Like, right now.”
“Sirius…” At the moment, I didn’t know if the idea seemed crazy or not. To be perfectly honest, I had thought about it too; life was too unsteady to let things drag on. “Give me some time to find a proper dress and then we get married whenever you want.”
“Wait- seriously?”
Sirius was so incredulous that he missed the occasion to do his signature pun. His eyes were almost shining, and in these irises I loved so much I could see that he wasn’t sure it was really true.
“Of course. I know as well as you do that all of this-” I said waving at the peaceful house, “-isn’t guaranteed. Anything can happen, and if something has to happen, then I want to be your wife when it does.”
Sirius was beaming. For a second, he stayed still, probably still processing that for once, I had agreed with one of his wacky ideas. As soon as the realization eventually sunk in, he jumped on his feet and grabbed my hand.
“I’m calling James, he’ll marry us. Get ready love, in half an hour you’re my wife!”
“Sirius, wait!” I laughed and wrapped tightly my arms around his waist before resting my head against his back. “Didn’t you hear the ‘I have to find a dress’ part? Plus, Remus is working and you know he’ll kill you as surely as Lily if we get married without him being there.”
Sirius sighed and turned to me.
“You know, this shirt makes you look wonderfully pretty! You could definitely wear it.”
“Are you sure you like the shirt and not the fact that it’s the only thing I’m wearing?” I smirked and Sirius shook his head resignedly.
“You know, I’m a simple man. I see a pretty girl wearing only a shirt, I want to marry her.”
“So that’s why you want to marry me?” I gasped, falsely offended.
“That’s part of the reason, yes.”
His goofy grin still plastered on his face, Sirius wrapped tightly an arm around me and pulled me against his torso. We extended our legs and tangled them, and the position we ended up in was so comfortable I was sure my eyes closed for a longer time than intended. Sirius’ breath was deep and steady, the sound even more beautiful than the sweetest lullaby to my ears.
“Mmm?” I muttered some time later, the eyes still half closed.
When no one answered, I opened my eyes fully. Indeed, Sirius was still deeply asleep and we were obviously alone in the house, or so I hoped as it was the middle of the night. So where did that voice I had heard come from? I could have sworn someone had said my name, but it was clear that I needed sleep more than I thought.
“ - happening?”
His eyes were still shut and his voice hoarse, but this time I was sure Sirius was awake. When I didn’t say anything, he straightened and his fingers brushed against the skin of my arm.
“Is everything okay?”
“If you forget the fact that I feel like I’m going crazy and I hear voices calling for me then yes, I’m okay. What’s wrong with me?”
Not impressed by my sudden outburst, Sirius made his fingers run my arm and my shoulder before squeezing it gently.
“That’s my heart calling for you, it needs you.” His chuckle tickled the skin of my neck. “I’m sorry though, I didn’t want to put pressure on your shoulders. We should wait before-”
“No! That’s not- I don’t want to wait. I’m sure about this Sirius, I want to marry you.”
How could I tell him it had been so long since it had begun - the voices in my head? I possibly couldn’t throw in his face that for a couple of years now it had become a recurrent occurrence that I felt like someone was calling for me, sometimes whispering my name and sometimes shouting it. He would say it didn’t matter before sending me straight to St-Mungo’s which would be useless as most of the time, I had the conviction I wasn’t crazy. At first, I had thought it was normal - I mean, it happens to everyone, right? But almost three years later, I wasn’t so sure anymore.
“You’re not going crazy, Y/N, I swear. I know what insanity looks like - remember, it galops in my family - and I can tell you you’re not insane.”
Sirius laid a gentle kiss on my hair before getting up.
“Let’s drink an unhealthy amount of coffee and then we’ll take a walk outside. Seems right to you?”
_ _ _
“He wanted you to get married in his shirt Y/N, so why are you being so picky with the dresses?”
“You’re adorable Lily, but it looks like you don’t remember the days I’ve spent following you in every wedding dress store of the country.” I replied, holding two very simple white dresses in front of me.
The image sent back by the mirror didn’t please me and I threw the satin dress on the bed.
“Maybe, but I was being picky with an actual wedding dress, not with every white dress my friends have! Why don’t you want to buy one like me?” she whined.
“Because I want to get married as soon as possible, not in a year.”
I threw the other dress next to the first and sighed deeply, seriously contemplating the idea of getting married in Sirius’ shirt. Lily handed me one of the dresses I had refused to try at the beginning, begging me to put it on.
“You look tired,” she stated as she was helping me with the laces. “Sirius says you don’t sleep well. Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, everything’s alright Lils, don’t worry. Just… the anxiousness of the wedding?”
If she found it strange that my affirmation sounded more like a question, Lily didn’t say anything, too busy she was gushing over the dress.
“It’s the one! I knew it would fit you perfectly Y/N! I knew it!”
“Are you sure?”
I was less enthusiast than her because of this little inch of scarred skin visible at my neckline. The vestige of this night, the one thing that would never leave me along with the nightmares, it was showing up just enough to remind me of what had happened. Lily wrapped her arms around my waist and rested her chin on my shoulder, a soft smile on her lips.
“You know he doesn’t care about it, and you shouldn’t either. It’s-”
“-a part of me, I have to accept it, I know.” I finished. “It doesn’t bother me that much, really, it’s just that, I don’t know… I would have preferred not having it to remind us of what happened.”
Lily nodded, showing me she was understanding perfectly what I was feeling. Suddenly, voices echoed in the Potter’s living-room; the boys were back from their shopping for the wedding. A glance at me convinced her I would be okay and Lily left the room to warn them not to get in.
As for me, I wasn’t in front of the mirror anymore. I was lost in that muggle village, running away from danger, praying to see the sun again.
_ _ _
Things had escalated too quickly for us to understand anything. One second the place was quiet, and then the fire was spreading.
“I told you something was wrong!”

It was strange. Bright. Pain. Noise. Smells. Thoughts. Feels. Sights.
Food.
He lunged, grabbing the prey which shrieked, only getting shriller as teeth tore into it. He pulled his head back and tasted sweet iron. Something grabbed him, forced his jaw open. He snarled. He was hungry and this was his food. He had rightfully caught it.
There was more noise and he turned, glowering. He hated the noises that they made at him. He had a sense that once it might have meant something but now they were empty sounds. It was infuriating.
The one he did not want to eat was there. That one was skinny. Bones. Bones weren’t food. He could crunch them to get food, but the skinny one was still not food. He did not know when the concept of food had come. But the desire to kill the warm moving ones had become a painful urge to fix an emptiness within. Hunger. Skinny was not that though. There was more to the bony one. That was why it was not food.
The other one was tempting but it could stop him. He had tried.
It always knew. It was always prepared.
They made noises to each other as food was placed into his hand. It wasn’t fresh but he tore at it, snarling at anyone who got too close. Too soon, food was gone and he licked his fingers. They were tasty.
Bony was there, hand on his arm. He snarled and Bony flinched but made noises at him. Soft sounds that soothed and promised safety. Bony took something damp and pressed it against his face, rubbed it over his fingers. He liked the damp and wet. It was like a home in that dark, wet cave. The bony one continued to make the noises and gently shifted his limbs. It was a more comfortable position. The old one came and muttered words. He tried to shift and get at it but Bony was being gentle with him and captured his attention once more.
He did not know what he was doing here. He had known, back at the cave. Or perhaps it had not been a knowing – it was more like a state of being. There had been no knowing, just guarding. Devour any that touched the water. Wait. Constant waiting. Protect.
A part of him had something different. A part had been sleeping, almost too deep for dreams but that part had been more alive. There had been the vaguest sense of a series of sounds that had defined it. Memories that had created it.
He could not remember the memories now. They were like the fish that sometimes made their way to his deep waters and were devoured by their many hungry mouths. Flashing, briefly there and so powerfully sating. Then gone. The Bony one perhaps came from there. It came from somewhere deep within. That was why he didn’t eat it.
Bony looked at him, it gave an expression. The lips curled slightly at the ends and it helped him to lie down and pulled the soft warmth over him. It took his head and held it until boredom closed his eyes.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
“No, Regulus.” Sirius said firmly as his brother held the raw, half eaten chicken breast in his hand, teeth bared and showing the remnants of his midnight snack.
This was not what Sirius needed. He didn’t need Regulus back. He ran his hand through his hair, guilt sparking in his stomach at that thought. No, he did need Regulus back. Just not with the caveat that he would have to fight off the magic that had kept his body frozen as a minion for Voldemort. Because that was a lot to deal with when you were fresh out of Azkaban. As was knowing that if it hadn’t been for Regulus’ soul somehow taking root deep inside him, if Dumbledore hadn't realised that… well his brother's body would still be in that cave. Dead and violated, twisted by Dark Magic. The thought was sickening.
Yet it was because of Regulus that he had been told he couldn’t take Harry into his home. Harry Potter, James’ son. Sirius' very own Godson, who he had sworn an oath to protect. A boy who was criminally neglected by his supposed guardians. Sirius had waited all this time to get Harry back in his life. He had told the boy he could move in with him. It wasn't fair that he had to look after a kid who should be grown and able to take care of himself.
Sirius resented Regulus for that. He resented that a lot when Regulus had never shown him any love or care back when they had lived together. It had always been ‘why can’t you just behave?’, ‘why must you hurt mother so?’, ‘can’t you just get it into your thick skull that we are better than everyone else and that it is our duty to rule?’. Well, Regulus didn’t look much better than anyone else with his half-eaten chicken breast clutched in one hand.
“Put it down. You’re going to be sick enough as it is.” Probably. Apparently inferii had pretty tough guts because Regulus had taken to eating a whole host of raw things (the healer had not been impressed to find that out). Unfortunately for his brother, the closer he got back to being counted amongst the living, the more raw meat did not agree with him.
Regulus shifted the chicken breast closer to his mouth, staring a challenge down at Sirius.
“No.” Sirius growled and Regulus froze. In that second, Sirius took the time to consider the situation. The pantry had been charmed closed. If Regulus had opened it, that had to mean he was getting his magic back which would not be ideal because Sirius didn’t need a magic wielding, zombie brother. He groaned, running a hand down his face and Regulus quickly took a bite of the chicken.
“Regulus!” Sirius roared and his brother jumped, dropping the chicken breast and quick as a flash, made for the door. Sirius swore and lunged after him, wrapping the smaller body and pinning his arms while his hands went to wrap around Regulus’ wrists. He might be skinny after his time in Azkaban but Regulus was still only seventeen (he’d be eighteen if counting the days – he died days before his birthday a voice whispered in his head) and apparently hadn’t been taking care of himself in the lead up to his death. He’d been all skin and bones when they dragged him out and the inferius voracious appetite was not doing much to put weight back on his frame.
The tiny body squirmed in his grasp, twisting his head and sinking his teeth into Sirius’ dressing gown.
“Stop that, Regulus.” Sirius was softer this time, trying to be more reassuring now the chicken was gone. While most people seemed fair game for eating, Sirius had yet to be bitten. Oh, Regulus threatened to and Sirius did not trust himself to sleep without a heavily warded door, but he’d had no more than panicked bites that stopped short of bruising his skin. He pulled Regulus over to a sink and with some effort managed to get warm water running. Forcing Regulus’ hands under, he glanced around for the soap as his brother started to relax.
“See, nothing wrong, Reggie.” He said soothingly, rubbing the lavender scented soap against his brother’s pale skin. He got a cloth to clean Regulus’ face likewise. His brother squirmed but did not resist.
“Just cleaning you up. You know, if you get hungry, you can come to me. Just knock on the door. I’ll make you something.” He told Regulus this every time but he had little way to tell if it went in. His brother made a noise though and leaned into him.
“Right, all cleaned up now. Not much point eating until you’ve got this out your system.” He said, turning Regulus and giving him a once over. He didn’t let Regulus wear anything with long sleeves, unless attended which just made his arms look like skinny sticks but it made moments like this easier. It didn’t look like Regulus had gotten anything on him.
“Kreacher!” Sirius called.
The House Elf appeared. Sirius knew he lived in a cupboard in the kitchen and he found it ever so infuriating that he didn’t help keep Regulus from eating raw meats. Unfortunately, Kreacher was rather dedicated to ‘the young master’, even if that meant letting him eat things he shouldn’t.
“Clean up the mess and then bring the sick basin into the Parlour. I’m staying up with Regulus until we know if this is going to pass through or not. And next time stop letting him eat raw meat.”
Regulus growled at Sirius for his tone, dark eyes narrowing and Sirius groaned.
“Please.” He added, trying to make his tone sweet because he could do with Regulus not waking up mother’s portrait, which was what he would do if in a strop. She only got agitated seeing Regulus in such a state and it didn’t help that Sirius was there either.
“Kreacher lives to serve the Noble House of Black.” The House Elf grovelled, bowing low and Sirius bit back his retort and instead said through gritted teeth.
“Thank you. Kreacher.”
Regulus seemed to accept that as genuine because he smiled and let himself be guided out with minimum fuss. In fact, he looked rather over the moon to be taken into the Parlour where he took his customary seat as Sirius set the fire up and carefully made sure to place the fire protector so Regulus wouldn’t accidentally get too close.
Warmth was something that Regulus seemed drawn to. He loved the fire, he loved the sun, he loved being wrapped in warm hugs when before he’d always been hesitant about touch. It felt like someone else walking about in his brother’s skin. It was not a comfortable thought but Dumbledore insisted that Regulus would come back to his senses. They had to treat this like a flu that his body was fighting off.
His brother was curled up, small limbs all folded in close, and Sirius pulled a blanket over him. Regulus jumped and snarled before realising it was him and calming back down.
“Fire.” He said, giving a nod towards the flames.
“Yes, Reg, fire.” Sirius confirmed, sighing and settling down next to his brother, carding his hand through his hair. Regulus made a small humming noise which Sirius knew to mean he was pleased with himself. Speaking was… a challenge and at times, it could be especially frustrating. Some days, Regulus could manage to string together a sentence and others would be solely animalistic snarls.
Kreacher came in and placed the sick basin down. Regulus smiled at him and Sirius let his brother do whatever it was he did with Kreacher. There was no denying that there was something protective within Regulus when it came to Kreacher and Sirius wondered whether something had happened to Kreacher before Regulus had died. The old House Elf would let Regulus check him over with agitated hands before pulling him in tight for quite a while.
No one knew quiet what had happened and Kreacher was not elaborating. The only information that legimency had been able to glean from Regulus’ soul attached onto Sirius was where he had died. Snape, and Sirius still shivered to think on that, had impressed on them that whatever had happened, it was more important to Regulus than merely the place he had died. It was the one thing that bound him to this earthly plane and even in death, he kept shielded with occlumency.
Dumbledore had uncovered some things. They’d seen that unearthly green glow across the water of the cave and after he’d brought Regulus’ bound and writhing corpse… After Snape had helped coax Regulus’ soul back into it… Dumbledore had returned.
Sirius still remembered that note that Dumbledore had placed into his hand. Regulus’ curved and delicate hand writing. That would have been his last words on this earth. It had been chilling.
Voldemort had created a Horcrux and Regulus had intended to die destroying it. It was clear that he had found it but no one knew where the original was. Snape had confessed that although he and Regulus had shared a friendship, he had had no word about this from Regulus. Kreacher feigned ignorance and Sirius knew that was the case because he had caught Kreacher hurting himself after saying he knew nothing.
He had ordered Kreacher to tell him because he knew that Kreacher knew but that was the closest Regulus had come to hurting him. His brother had flown in, snarling rage, with clawing hands and hadn’t calmed for a week.
Sirius sighed and stared at Regulus, who was lying, eyes half closed as Kreacher now comforted him, singing him songs in Kreacher’s own language. Regulus didn’t sleep. Not since they’d brought him back. At most he dozed. Sometimes by the fire, more often when someone cradled him in warm sunlight. Sirius figured that Regulus felt he had been sleeping enough with fifteen years of being dead. That he might fear that his sleep would bring that again. Certainly rest seemed to bring out the inferius in him. Always a step back from whatever improvement he had built up.
Harry would be easier.
Harry deserved the love that Regulus was given. Dumbledore visited once a week to chat with Regulus – a kid who could barely speak at the moment. Even Snape visited, although he kept these visits to once a month due to the fact that strife seemed to upset Regulus, otherwise he would no doubt be a more frequent visitor. Remus, Merlin knew how, tolerated Regulus. The first few times, Regulus had gone for Remus’ throat and had to be stunned. Remus brought bribes of chocolate frogs and still, Regulus would sit between them once he had finished chasing his meal.
One day he had told Sirius ‘ ‘trayed you. Left you.’. Sirius had tried to explain that he had betrayed Remus, that it was him that hadn’t trusted. But Regulus had touched his chest and said one word. Hurt.
Regulus could tell that no matter what had happened, Sirius had felt betrayed by Remus. That one of his childhood friends had not fought for his freedom… it stung and it didn’t matter how irrational that was because to Regulus, it was real and if he didn’t sit there, protecting Sirius, Remus might hurt him.
Merlin, this was messed up.
“Bad.” Regulus said, stiffening, and Sirius grabbed the basin, handing it over to Regulus who retched into the bowl as Sirius rubbed his back in what he hoped were soothing circles. Kreacher vanished the sick between breaks in his brother’s throwing up.
“There you go. Better out. It’s OK.” He said, using his other hand to pull Regulus’ hair out of his face.
Harry wouldn’t eat raw meat and then need a guardian to look out for him. Sirius winced as Regulus threw up again, sounding rather painful as he shuddered, fingers clawing at the ceramic. At the very least Regulus might exhaust himself and doze. That would be nice. Some peace and not having to rely on paintings waking him up whenever Regulus decided to go on his walks.
Sirius yawned and Regulus paused from his heaving, looking up with dark, pain filled eyes.
They were his brother’s eyes. His little brother, who had died alone in a cave to try and bring down Voldemort. Regulus. The soft little idiot who thought he’d take on the world alone because he had no one else to turn to. Sirius hadn’t been there for him.
Regulus doubled over again and moaned in pain and Sirius returned to rubbing his head. Yes, he resented his brother for a lot of things. It had been a long time since Regulus had brought him joy but every time he looked into those eyes, he saw a kid he’d failed. Someone he should have been there for. Perhaps, the guilt would give way to love at some point.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Regulus snarled at the man who came in through the door. Sirius grabbed him and pulled him away, placing an arm out to stop him getting at the man.
“No, it’s alright Sirius. You said he had a turn last night. It’s fine.” The man… the wolf… said, reaching into his pockets with slow movements. He pulled something out, fiddling with it and suddenly Regulus found his focus forced to something moving fast. He dashed after it and it jumped away. Another pounce and he had it wrapped in his hands, feeling his prey wiggling, trying to get out. A quick crush and he broke it. Opening his hands, Regulus started to pick at its brown, sweet flesh, crushing it between his teeth. It was good. Tasty. Bits fell to the floor and he cleaned up those traces as well.
Good. He’d killed it.
Feeling more content with this, Regulus wandered through the house, trying to recall what had happened before. He had chased his prey but something important had happened before that. What was it?
Voices.
Ah, the wolf.
Regulus dashed to the warm room where the fire was merrily burning and Sirius sat with the wolf, his brother lounging across the sofa and the wolf, the betrayer of his brother, sat on a chair.
“Sirius said you’ve started to collect the cards.” The wolf said, looking up as he entered and stalked to sit in front of his brother. Sirius may have forgotten but Regulus remembered the pain his brother had felt when the wolf hadn’t saved him from whatever had happened. It would only be a matter of time before it happened again.
Regulus looked at the offered card but did not take it. Sirius shifted forward, plucked the card from the wolf’s hand and placed it in Regulus’ own, wrapping his fingers around it.
“You’ve been wanting this one, remember?” He said and Regulus stared at the picture.
“S… Slyth… Slytherin. Salazar.” He managed to get the words out, forcing his mouth and tongue to roll around the foreign sounds. There was a vague sense that this had once been easy, like breathing. He had a concept of breathing now. He remembered realising that he breathed.
“Yep! Rarer than the other Founders because no one wants him.” Sirius said, in a jolly tone. Regulus stared at it. He knew this one mattered to him. He knew that some days he could remember why he mattered. Grey eyes shifted to look up at the wolf.
“Trick.” He said.
“I watched him take the card out, it’s not a trick Reg.” Sirius said, rubbing his head. Regulus growled and glared at the two. He had no idea how the wolf could just waltz in and make Sirius forget the pain that he had caused.
“Regulus.” That was the stern voice. He barred his teeth at the tone then flinched as Sirius went to grab him.
“Sirius, it’s okay.” The wolf said hastily, producing another box.
“No, if he can’t play nice he shouldn’t get nice things.” Sirius said. The wolf hesitated with his bribes. Regulus hated that they talked about him as if he wasn’t here. He could understand them, their noises made his mind know. It was just hard to remember how to make the noises back.
“Sirius, you said other than the relapse, he’s doing better.” The wolf said before looking at him.
“Would you like another chocolate frog, Regulus?” He asked and his tone was nice. It was always nice and Regulus did not trust that. He did, however, like the frogs. He eyed the box up and licked his lips, thinking on how good its flesh would be.
“Please.”
The wolf hands over the frog, his prize, and Regulus clutched the box tight in his hands. It is his now and it feels good to own things. The desire to consume now falls away and he leaned against the sofa, staring. Sirius went back to talking but the words wash over him. There’s something unsettled in him, a poking feeling that makes his limbs feel restless. Something he should be doing.
Regulus gets up and follows the feeling.
It takes him to his room. There is a draw there with lines. He traces them. Line with three with three lines. Two hills. A curve and circle. Emergency. It is scrawled in a very slow and deliberate attempt to be neat.
He pulls the draw open and inside are boxes, unopened. A collection of frogs. Because sometimes he could plan for the future. That maybe one day he’d want a frog when he wasn’t being given one. That they were useful. Regulus placed the box inside with the rest, then on second thought he shifts it down to the bottom. Older ones on top. Cycle through.
He closes the draw and looks at the top of his desk.
On there sits a hairbrush, with a symbol engraved into its handle. Regulus traced the symbol.
Tumblr media
It was a gift, from mother. His initials made into one image. He’d been ten when gifted it. The handle had been big in his hands and he knew its worth. Grabbing it, Regulus brought the brush through his hair, wincing as it tugged at knots. Sometimes Sirius held him down and ran a comb through his black hair. Sirius would try to be gentle. Regulus did not.
His scalp stung but his hair was fixed.
Investigating his desk, Regulus next found a vial. It smelt of woods on hot summer days. The smell pulled memories of walks with friends like Barty or Severus. It was comforting. A pot held a cream, near dried out but which moistened as his fingers touched it. Regulus sniffed his fingers. It was a gentle hint of night blooming jasmine. He’d chosen it because of that. One summer, they had stayed in Southern France and each evening meal had been punctuated by that smell. It reminded him of family and love. He rubbed the cream against his face, a familiar gesture. His fingers found their own and rubbed it into his skin which softened.
The smells of the wood went on the neck and wrists. He remembered that now.
A tub full of powdered silver used the brush to add flakes to his skin so he looked otherworldly and more than the peasants around him.
There was a ribbon. He used it to tie his hair back into a ponytail, leaving just enough loose to frame his face. That took too many goes until it was satisfactory but what stared out at him was a face that he might remember.
Regulus glanced down at his clothes. Attire.
Sirius dressed him in robes that cut off above his elbows, short at the legs and with a split. He knew his movement could be erratic. It was the outfit of a child.
His wardrobe was empty of suitable garb.
Regulus went into the room next to his. Sirius’. The one his brother did not sleep in but was so painfully his. Sometimes Regulus understood why it hurt. Mostly, though, he couldn’t remember. There, in the draws were proper robes. Long, rich and flowing. They smelt of mothballs and dust but it was still a better alternative. He pulled the robes on and they came up short. It made no sense because Sirius was taller than him. Older than him.
But it was more presentable.
Regulus made his way downstairs and back to the parlour. He breezed in and took a seat near the fire. It hurt to sit up straight. His body did not seem to like it but Regulus knew it was proper and expected of him. He didn’t know who expected it.
“Hey Reggie.” Sirius smiled.
“Siri.” He said with a nod. Even that took too much effort. How had this once been so easy?
“You look good.” Wolf smiled.
“Are… are those my old robes?”
Regulus glanced away.
“I hadn’t realised that old hag had kept them.”
“M.” Regulus glared at Sirius. “Mother.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow.
“Love.” Regulus said firmly.
“She never felt an ounce of love for us, Reg.” Sirius said, laughing callously. Regulus felt his muscles twitch.
“Sirius.” Wolf cautioned, leaning forwards and placing a hand on the arm of Sirius’ chair.
“What? It’s the truth.”
“You said they kept the room the same as you’ve left it.” Wolf said softly.
“Probably never noticed I left.” Sirius scoffed.
“Or they were waiting for you to come home.” Wolf pointed out gently.
“Fat chance.”
“Did.” Regulus said.
Sirius turned his attention back to him.
“Did they come by the Potters to collect me? Turn up at the Express to pick me up? Ever write me a letter? No, Reg, they didn’t. No one did.”
Regulus pulled his legs in closer, feeling eyes water but he couldn’t be weak. Not in front of the wolf.
“Time. Needed time. Then back.” He whispered. That’s what he’d been told. His brother would come back, he just needed space to realise that he still loved them, that nothing was as important as family. Days became weeks, weeks became months. He just needed more time. He’d come back, see his room kept just as it had been when he had left and would realise that they loved him.
“Sirius-” The wolf said, reaching for Regulus’ brother but he pushed the man’s hands away.
“No! They didn’t care!” Sirius said, his voice shaking and Regulus realised he had zoned out for some of the conversation between the two. He also remembered that the wolf was called Remus.
“I’m not saying that the way they treated you was okay, Sirius. It was wrong and it was good that you got out of it when you did because it was destroying you. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t care. That’s what makes it harder.”
“No one could love their child and put them through that. They didn’t love me. They couldn’t have.”
“I did.” Regulus said softly. Sirius glanced up and ran a hand down his face.
“You didn’t put me through anything, Reg. You were the only thing that made home bearable.” It was a comforting lie and Regulus shook his head.
“I was with mother and father.” He said, his words slow as each rolled around his mouth. “I did not help you.”
“That’s because you were soft enough to believe our parents. You were soft.” Sirius said. Regulus shook his head and stared at his arm.
“I joined.” He pointed out.
“Because they forced you.” Sirius insisted.
“I thought ‘twas right.” Regulus said quietly.
“They brainwashed you.”
Regulus shrugged. Sirius wasn’t convinced but at least he wasn’t fighting.
“I didn’t help you.” He repeated.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Sirius stared at the cold, blank eyes staring up at him.
“James… Lily.” He whispered, hands trembling as they reached forwards, hesitant to cradle the corpses of his friends. As he reached out, he realised his hands were uncomfortably warm. Glancing down, he saw them dripping red. His friends’ skin tore open, pouring blood. He had done this. He was drowning in their blood and the world around him got dark. His heart quickened as a cold touch grabbed his heart and tightened. Slimy hands wrapped around his throat, his legs, his arms. A rattling death gasp and he was falling deeper and deeper.
Sirius screamed, starting awake, thrashing underneath duvet covers as his door banged as if it were about to be smashed in.
He swore and grabbed his wand, unlocking the door and Regulus flew in, snarling at the darkness in the corners of his room and hovering protectively over him.
Sirius’ heart was pounding and his body trembling and he did not have time for Regulus not being OK. He did not want a snarling brother trying to bite his nightmares.
“Reggie, it’s okay. Just a nightmare. Nothing’s attacking me.” Sirius gasped out, trying to place a hand on his brother’s arm to try and comfort him. He did not need a jumpy inferius. Regulus jumped, then glanced around.
“Dream?” He asked. His voice sounded young, uncertain of how to pronounce different words.
“Bad dream.” Sirius confirmed, rubbing Regulus’ arm. His brother calmed down a lot faster than he did and then dashed off to do Merlin knew what. Probably whatever inferii did when everyone else was supposed to be sleeping.
Sirius fell back against the bed. He could feel tears pricking at his eyes but Blacks did not cry. Not the women, not the children, not the men. But if a Black cried and no one was there to see, did they really cry?
Sirius covered his eyes and drew in a shaky breath. He was fine. The dementors weren’t here. It was Peter who had killed James and Lily. Dumbledore had gotten him a pardon for that. The world now knew he was innocent. He would never get sent back th-
Something dropped on his stomach and Sirius let out a blood curdling scream, flinging his arm away from his face to stare up into the shocked face of Regulus.
“Wha?” He asked, glancing down, terrified to find out what Regulus might consider an appropriate midnight gift.
It was a chocolate frog.
Still in its wrapping.
Regulus nudged it towards Sirius with a hesitant smile.
“Thanks.” Sirius said softly. Regulus openly grinned back and dashed over to a chair, watching him. Sirius sighed and took the offered gift, opening it up and carefully grabbing the frog before it could jump. He saw Regulus start, ready to hunt, but control the urge. Remus always said chocolate was the best cure for dementors. It was sweet and creamy and thawed out some part of his chest.
“You saved this?” Sirius asked in sudden realisation. Regulus frowned then gave a nod.
“I can’t kill the nightmares.” He said in his slow and carefully thought out way. “Chocolate might. I think I read it once.”
“Yeah. It does.” Sirius gave a small smile. This was progress. Maybe soon they could have Harry here safely.
“What dream?” Regulus asked, words slipping in perhaps an excitement at being able to keep a conversation going.
Sirius shook his head. He was not going back there. Not at all.
“I can’t… Were you asleep?” He decided, trying to turn the conversation to something he might manage. Regulus frowned and Sirius noticed the dark shadows under his eyes. He hadn’t realised before. They must have slowly built up as Regulus’ body became more and more alive. The frown had made his eyes look sunken in and not too unlike the face Sirius still saw in the mirror.
“Can’t.” Regulus agreed and he went to sit on Sirius’ bed, head hanging down.
“Hey, it’s OK. No one expects you to get back to normal immediately.” Sirius said softly, shifting to pull his brother into a hug. Regulus fell against him. Warm. Alive. Sirius could feel his heartbeat against his side. It was strong.
“Do you need food?” Sirius asked. Regulus shook his head. Well, at least that was something.
“Want you safe.”
Sirius sighed.
“Well, since neither of us are sleeping, why don’t we go into the parlour?” He suggested, throwing off the bed covers and grabbing his dressing gown and wand. On second thought, he also picked up his bottle of firewhisky that rested on his bed side table. It was depressingly low and Sirius hadn’t yet plucked up the courage to do his own shopping. There was only so often he could ask Moony to pick up booze, even when spaced out between what remained of father’s cabinet.
Maybe mother’s cabinet. She’d outlived him and Reg by years.
He hated thinking that he might be using anything she owned.
Regulus followed him on deadly silent feet. It was unnerving. Sirius always felt that Regulus was just about to pounce. They managed to get through to the parlour with no murders and Regulus took his customary place by the fire, waiting expectantly. Sirius muttered the incantation and the fire flickered to life. He took a swig of whisky and offered it to Regulus, who did likewise, coughing.
“Missed whisky.” Regulus commented as he handed the bottle back to Sirius. Sirius gave a bark of laughter.
“When did you have time to miss whisky?”
Regulus frowned and cocked his head.
“Don’t know. Last week?”
“Well, that’s a good sign that you’re becoming yourself again, Reggie. What’s a Black without a love of alcohol?”
His brother hummed and Sirius handed the bottle back to his brother who took another gulp.
“Can… Can I ask?” His voice shook and Sirius took the bottle back. He was going to need it.
“About what?”
“Mother?”
“Died five years after I was sent to prison. Guards let me know. They thought there was something hilarious about me being left this house.”
Regulus sniffed.
“Bellatrix?”
“Captured and put into Azkaban not long after they got me.”
“Narcissa?”
“Uh… you remember she married Malfoy, right? Were you around for her pregnancy? Ok, well, she’s got a baby boy. Same year as Harry.”
Regulus nodded, thoughtful.
“Evan?”
“Rosier? Dead.”
“Barty?”
“Did you know about him? That he was a Death Eater?”
Regulus went silent. Sirius sighed.
“Look, I know he was a good friend of yours at school.”
“New brother.” Regulus said softly. “I… I wanted a brother that mother would approve of. You had James.”
“Did you know?” Sirius asked again, his blood running cold. He hadn’t thought about it but the two had been close. Barty had been a years younger than Reg and practically worshipped the ground beneath his feet. Slytherin cronyism, not that the Crouch family needed it, but they were Slytherins all the way. Bartemius Senior just sucked it up to the crowds and the ministry.
“I brought… Yes. I brought him into the fold.” Regulus’ voice was wobbling now.
“Merlin. Oh Reg!”
“Please tell me he’s okay.”
Regulus had been seventeen when he died and he sounded it. He’d been just a kid. Just like Barty when they dragged him into a cell. Sirius remembered the boy screaming for his mother until he went silent. He remembered thinking if Regulus had been caught before his mysterious death, that’s what he’d have been like. And when Barty had died, Sirius had wondered if Regulus would have lasted that long.
“I’m so sorry.” Sirius said, moving to wrap Regulus in a hug as his brother collapsed in on himself. A sudden ringing filled the air and Sirius just had time to cast a quick shielding charm as glass smashed around them. Regulus was crying openly and Sirius shifted his brother to rest against his shoulder.
“’S my fault.” Regulus whispered as Sirius wrapped his arm around his brother and used the other to wave his wand and restore the room.
“No, you aren’t responsible for others, Reg.” He whispered softly as he held his brother as he fell apart and they tried to put each other back together.

The Forgotten Portrait.
Hermione watches the group Ravenclaws walk away already mocking S.P.E.W before they are even out of sight. She tries not to let it show how much it hurts, forcing that emotion aside as outrage for the injustice boils inside her.
It’s not fair! How can they all act like a entire race was just happy to be treated terribly? How can they not understand that the poor creatures would gladly they say they liked it when the only other option was death!?
Wasn’t there anyone in this school who saw what she did? Didn’t anyone at all understand how important a house elf life could be? She starts to angrily throw her badges and parchment into her bag, determine to find three members by the end of the week.
“Pardon me, miss?” A voice cuts through her angry movements causing her to jump. Hermione’s hand falls onto her wand faster then her mind can keep up, years of being the Boy-Who-Lived best friend causing her to have such a reflex. The reason she cornered the Ravenclaws into this part of the school was because people rarely if ever came here, which she had hoped made them listen to her without any distraction.
No one should be lurking in this darken hallway, much less someone she hadn’t notice for ten solid minutes as she gave her speech of House Elf Rights.
“Up here, miss.” The voice continues and Hermione swings her head up to a portrait she’s never seen before. Her mouth drops at the striking teenage boy with short dark hair and silver eyes, calmly staring right back at her with a beauty that she had only seen in Veelas a few weeks ago. He’s dressed up in some of the finest robes she’s ever seen, obviously going for all the pure-bloods trends, lodging gracefully on a couch in a elegant house. “I don’t mean to intrude, but I heard you speaking just now. Are you truly trying to better house elf lives? Even those outside the Hogwarts castle?”
At once the muggle-born snaps to attention, forcing her blush away and trying her best to ignore the handsomeness of a board of paint and magic.  “Of course! The Society of the Promotion of Elfish Welfare means set all house elves free!”
The boy hums crossing one leg over the other. “What would they do once they are free? Where would they go?”
“Whatever treats them right!” She insists and just because she’s expecting it she adds on. “I understand house elfs need magic to survive but they should be able to find a place that provides family magic without the need to be treated like slaves! There should be laws to protect them!”
The boys nods. “Old magical families treat house elves like furniture. Sometimes, they treat the furniture even better because they rather a magical creature die of starvation then let them get away with family secrets.”
Hermione knows that, had come across examples and even second hand experience from some of the house elves she interviewed in the kitchen. A majority thought she was crazy for asking but she had seen the real terror in their eyes when she offered them freedom.
What can be worse then this?  Those shrunken eyeballs seem to say to her I could die any day on the whim of my master and yet being free is said to be worse. What could possibly be worse then what I already live?
She hated it.
“It’s not right!” She hisses staring down at her badge with a twisting sort of helplessness she didn’t want to feel. But no matter how much she tried no one seem to believe in S.P.E.W. Not even Harry or Ron, and she always thought they would believe in at least her.
“It is not.” The portrait agrees, placing both his hands on his raised knee, eyeing the muggle-born with a strange intrigued light in his painted eyes. “Miss, may I join your club? I wish to see the change in House Elf treatment.”
“What?” Hermione gapes at the boy utterly shocked to the core a pureblood- for what else could he be?- wanted to see the change she so desperately long to have.   He smiles back at her causing her heart to do a small little skip of a beat. “Really?”
“Yes. My best friend was my family house elf. For him I wish, to see S.P.E.W succeed.” He gestures his hand to the golden frame surrounding him. The girl takes notice of the carefully carved constellations as she follows his movement with her eyes. “Please pin it to my frame. May all those who see me know that I stand for justice and equality.”
Hermione might just be in love.  “Of course! I’m Hermione Granger by the way, club founder and president.”
Pure white teeth gleam as the boy tilts a pleased smile at her as she hurries onto a bench to pin the S.P.E.W button proudly to his frame. She charms it to say member under the words and fells for once she’s found someone who might understand just a little.
“It is very nice to meet you Miss Granger. I am Regulus Black.”
It’s the start of a wonderful friendship, if only time had been kind enough for them to have met in life.

                          July 31st, 1989
I shot my eyes open with the sound of my door swinging open, the rare smile appeared on my face. “Auntie Stella wake up!” Harry shouted jumping on my bed. “It’s my birthday!” He said standing up over me.
“Good morning cricket,” I chuckled sitting up and taking Harry in for a hug. “Happy birthday,” I whispered hugging Harry tightly.
“Auntie Stella, you’re hugging me too tight,” Harry chuckled tapping my back. I let him go and just smiled at his face.
“Why don’t you go wake up Sirius and Remus, remember, you have to knock on their door,” I suggested kissing the top of Harry's head. “Go on now,” I chuckled just smiling at the boy.
“Great idea, I have so many things I wanna do today,” Harry shouted jumping off my bed and looking back at me.
“And we can do whatever you’d like to do today Harry,” I smiled watching the boy leave my room, I crawled out of my bed and started digging through my closet for something nice to wear.
I pulled out a Slytherin scarf and smiled holding the scarf close in my hands. “You’d love him Regulas,” I whispered holding the scarf close to my heart.
“Auntie Stella Sirius sent me back in here!” Harry yelled barging back in, I smiled, quickly learning that the kid would never knock on my door I was always prepared for him barging in. “What's that?” He asked pointing to the scarf in my hand.
“It’s a Hogwarts scarf, it was someone's very close to me,” I smiled turning around and hanging it back up. “Why don’t you go get dressed, we have a whole day planned out, whatever you’d like to do Cricket,” I said looking back at Harry who sat down on my bed.
“Can I ask you something?” Harry said tilting his head to the side a bit. “Do you have a boyfriend, Uncle Remus and Sirius have a boyfriend, they say you should get a boyfriend,” Harry chuckled making me shake my head and laugh.
“I had a boyfriend Harry,” I sighed trying to keep positive for myself and him. “Do you wanna see him?” I asked turning around and grabbing a laid down picture from on top of my dresser. “His name is Regulas Black, he was Sirius’ brother,” I said chuckled sitting beside Harry.
“You two look very happy,” Harry said looking down at the picture, I smiled at the picture, our first Slughorn party as a couple, Lily and James insisted on taking a photo of us. “I’m gonna go get dressed, we’re wasting daylight,” Harry chuckled jumping off my bed.
“Regulas Black, I miss you,” I whispered to myself, for the first time in almost nine years I placed my pictures all in my room facing up, our group photos smiled once again on my walls and weight was lifted off my shoulder.
I grabbed a nice sundress quickly walking into the bathroom and stripping down and jumping in the shower. “Good morning,” A croaked voice said, I could see the outline of Sirius and his messy hair.
“So,” I said running my hands through my hair. “You think I should get a boyfriend huh?” I asked shaking my head. “And out of all the bathrooms in this place, you have to pick the one I’m in?”
“I was joking around, you’re a free person,” Sirius said brushing his hair. “Out of all the bathrooms in this place, you have to shower in the one I wanna get ready in,” Sirius chuckled making me roll my eyes.
“Get out Sirius, unless you wanna be useful and grab me my towel,” I said shutting of the water. “Sirius?” I asked looking out, I was alone in the bathroom again, I shook my head and reached out and grabbing my towel.
“Harry Potter where did you hide my shoes!” I heard Sirius yell, I chuckled and walked back into my room, locking my door so Harry wouldn’t burst in.
“Let me in!” Remus shouted banging on my door. “Harry and Sirius are double teaming on me, i’m dying out here!” He shouted making me burst out into laughter.
“I’m naked Remus, I don’t think Sirius would appreciate you coming in here well i’m naked!” I shouted walking away from the door.
“Oh gosh Sirius, you be careful with Harry on your shoulders!” Remus shouted walking away, Remus was the responsible one out of all of us, sometimes not at all, sometimes he was the bad influence of the house, usually when him and Harry pranked us.
I quickly untangled my long hair, falling down to my shoulders, brushing it quickly and walking out of the room smiling and shaking my head. “Remus what are you doing on Sirius shoulders?” I giggled looking at the pair then at Harry who was on the floor laughing.
“Get me down from here!” Remus yelled at me, gripping onto Sirius’ ears as he started spinning again. “Stella!” Remus screamed, Sirius spun around with Remus on his shoulders, making Harry burst out laughing again, I even laughed, smiling at the three.
“Okay okay okay!” I shouted over the laughter raising my hands up in the air. “We have plans today! Sirius stop spinning!” I giggling not able to help myself.
“Bloody hell i’m gonna get sick,” Remus mumbled covering his mouth and running into the bathroom. “Don’t repeat that Harry!” Remus shouted muffled in the bathroom.
“What do you wanna do today Harry?” I asked looking at the little boy who had tears from laughing so hard going down his face.
“The zoo!” Harry shouted jumping towards me, I picked him up and wrapped my arms around him, admiring his hugs, knowing in two years I wouldn’t get to do this every day.
“Well then the zoo is where we’ll go!” Sirius shouted joining into the hug. “Whats the zoo?” I heard him whispered making me laugh.
~
“This is amazing, Moony are you seeing that!” Sirius shouted hanging off of Remus, I walked around with Harry's beside me. “Merlin's beard I am so happy you picked the zoo Harry,”
“Come on, walk faster auntie Stella, we have to go see the reptiles!” Harry shouted tugging on my hands.
“Race you!” I chuckled still holding onto his hand, we both started laughing, we took of running down the stairs, Remus and Sirius running behind us. “Reptiles here you go,” I said to Harry slowly down and letting go of his hand, clenching my chest. “God I haven’t ran like that since Regulas and I were running away from you Sirius,” I chuckled making Sirius chuckle.
“Yeah well that was the great prank war of 1975,” Sirius said making Remus chuckle. “Come on Harry, I wanna see reptiles,” Sirius chuckled taking Harry's hand, leaving Remus and I to talk.
“Two more years, then he’ll be off,” Remus said walking beside me. “He was raised by the right be you supposed?” He asked.
“Of course he was, better than those muggle dumbledore tried taking him too when he came over, over my dead body was he going to those people,” I mumbled then smiled. “Today was the first time I looked at pictures of Regulas and I, because of Harry, every day i’m grateful for that boy and i’m not sure where we’d be right now without him,” I heartily said turning to Remus.
“I agree with you, he brings the light out of the three of us, brings our happy side out even when we’re sad, i’m grateful for you all,” Remus sadi wrapping his arm around my shoulder and leaning against me.
“Remus, Stella get over here, look at this!” Sirius called out, we leaned off of each other and walked over. “Harry's talking to the snake,” Sirius hissed at me, we both looked over at Harry who was having a conversation with a Python.
“Hey Cricket, come over here, look at the spiders,” I said to Harry walking over and grabbing his hand. “Their pretty cool, maybe if you ask Remus and Sirius we could get one,” I whispered winking at Harry and guiding him away from the snake.
“Not a chance,” Sirius whispered in my ear making me smirk as we walked over to the spider collection, the thought of Harry talking to the snake rung in the back of my head, spinning in all directions with endless possibilities.
“We should get one!” Harry called out bending down on his knees and placing his finger gently on the glass, the spider looked at Harry and Harry looked at the spider.
“Remuss,” Sirius said looking at Remus who was right beside Harry looking at the snake, I leaned myself on Sirius, placing my head on his shoulder and watching the two boys infront of us gush over the giant snake. “Are you having a good day,” he asked.
“I’m having a wonderful day Sirius, but it’s Harrys day, you’ll have to ask him that, not me,” I chucked leaning my head off his shoulder and smiling at Harry and Remus who turned around to face us.
“Are you hungry?” I asked Harry grabbing my wallet from Sirius’ fannypack he insisted on wearing after learning about them from Harry at school.
“Super,” Sirius said making the three of us look at him, I smirked watching Remus take Harry's hand. “Sorry about the whole boyfriend conversation this morning, I know it’s not my place to tell you what to do and all,”
“It’s okay, i’m just messing around, just it’s been almost ten years and i’m still not ready,” I whispered swallowing and becoming a bit nervous.
“It’s okay Stella, and i’m always ready to talk about it when you are,” Sirius whispered back moving his attention from me to Harry and Remus who walked into a dining hall.

 (Last section of part 9)
“Again?” Y/N watched her sip some coffee and smile awkwardly at her. “Lily… was I at this job before I went to hospital?”
 ~~~~~~
Part 10
“No, you weren’t.” Lily grimaced as she replied, staring up at her awkwardly. Y/N felt something click into place in her head, the emotion that had been swirling around her, the feeling that something wasn’t right.
“For how long.”
“Six months.”
“SIX MONTHS?” Y/N yelped, “I haven’t been at this job for over half a year? Why did they even take me back?”
“The healers told us it would be best to keep you doing what you remember doing before the attack, so we reached out and they said it would be fine.”
“Did you know why I quit last time?”
“Yes… but I wanted you-“
“To get there myself yeah, yeah,” Y/N huffed, “So you’ve been watching me have a shit time at work every day, knowing that I had already realised this and left months ago.”
“Well that makes it seem harsher than our thought process.”
“You keep saying our.” Y/N narrowed her eyes at Lily who was now looking a bit sheepish. Good.
“Well, James, myself, the boys, Marlene-“
“What you’ve been having fun secret chats about me?”
“Y/N this isn’t some secret club where we talk about you, we were- are trying to let you heal properly, and if that meant reliving some things then that was what we were going to do.”
Y/N pressed a finger to her temple, trying to relax the headache that had been building over the last few hours. Or probably days. She took in a deep breath and looked around the room, thanking Merlin that it was late in the day and the area surrounding the little café was almost empty.
“I know, this is just very overwhelming.”
“Are you ok?” Lily leaned forward and placed a hand on Y/N’s shoulder.
“Yeah, it’s just a headache, the healers said this is common in the weeks after an injury.” Y/N winced as a throbbing pain reached her temples again.
“Maybe I should take you home?”
Y/N nodded, grimacing as the pain became worse, moving down into her neck.
“Come on, I’ll send a note up to your office as we leave.”
Lily helped Y/N up and led her towards the elevator.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sirius had only felt helpless a few times in his life. The first was when his mother taught Regulus and himself how to use the crutiatus curse and then practice on each other. The second was when he saw his mother’s eyes, black as the night, staring daggers at him when he came home for the Christmas in his fifth year and stuck posters of Muggle girls and Gryffindor merchandise across the walls of his bedroom, cursing them to stay up forever. This was the third.
“So, we’ve found our favourite member of the Black household, or perhaps we can’t call you that anymore?”
The voice of Lucius Malfoy hissed in his ear, making him growl. He hated that it still stung, the burn that he was sure sat in his parents drawing room where Sirius’s face was meant to be.
“I didn’t know I was your favourite, Malfoy, I would have dressed up more to see you,” Sirius crooned in return, trying not to wince as he pulled back a chunk of his hair and dragged him backwards into the room Sirius and Marlene had just been leaning against.
“Now, do you want to tell us what you two are doing here, or would you rather we get it out of you ourselves. Both ways work for us.”
“You keep saying us,” Sirius tried to keep his voice light, but found he was struggling to stand upright and edge away from Lucius as he kept a tight grip on his hair. “Who is the other lovely death eater addressing us tonight.”
“That would be me,” a slimy voice crawled out from the edge of the room and Sirius felt his blood coil. Snivellus.
“Ahh Snivellus, pity that’s the case isn’t it, Marls,” Sirius tried to shake his head in mock sadness but let out a cry of pain as Lucius kicked out his legs and kept his hands wrapped around his hair so it felt like they were coming out of his roots.
“Couldn’t agree more, Sirius,” Marlene called from the other side of the room and Sirius felt his heart lighten slightly at her voice. At least we weren’t killed on sight.
“And why’s that?” Severus growled at them, walking closer to Sirius so he could see his face in the soft moonlight, holding Marlene with a wand at her throat.
“Cause we were really hoping to catch someone important tonight.” Sirius sighed loudly and winked at Marlene who grinned. She mouthed Now.
Quickly, Marlene had elbowed Snape in the ribs and ducked out of his wands range rolling out of sight to presumably get her wand. Simultaneously, Sirius twisted under himself, letting his hair twist into a ponytail in Lucius’s hand and kicked towards him, hard. He landed right between the legs and grinned to himself as he snatched Lucius wand and pointed it towards Snape.
“Step the fuck away from her.” Sirius snarled towards Snape who was circling Marlene like a hawk, one hand pressed hard on her hand that was outstretched towards her wand.
“Or you’ll do what? Don’t have James to save you now do you.” Snape turned to look at him and smile as he pressed down and dug his foot into her hand. Marlene let out a blood curdling scream that echoed around the room. Before he could even think, Sirius had yelled out a curse he thought he’d never use on another living soul.
“Crucio!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lily and Y/N reached the Potter’s in record time, though Y/N wasn’t sure if she might have begun to drop in and out of consciousness as Lily apparated her in sections across different towns.
“James open up, it’s me!”
“What do I call you when we’re alone.”
“Christ almighty, Lilypad, now let us in!”
“Us?” James echoed as he unlocked the door and Lily powered through past him and into the living room with Y/N chuckling beside her.
“Good to know you have your sense of humour.” Lily rolled her eyes and got Y/N comfortable on the couch, “James, can you call St Mungos?”
“St Mungos? What’s going on?” James followed them into the living room and sat next to the fire, grabbing some floo and yelling “St Mungos!”
“This is St Mungos for magical ailments and injuries, what can we help with today.” A false sounding voice came from the fire.
“Y/N Y/L/N, previous patient, going through – Lily you haven’t told me what’s happening yet?”
“She’s getting headaches and keeps fainting, has been coming on over a few days.”
“Please wait a few moments,” the voice called again, “Your concerns are of utmost importance to us.”
“Lovely,” Lily grumbled, “How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine, just need to get some rest, they said this would happen sometimes.” Y/N murmured, closing her eyes as she lay back on the couch. It felt like there were flashing lights pulsating into her brain, thrumming on her veins. She just wanted to fall asleep for a week.
A new voice came from the fireplace, a male one, familiar sounding.
“Whilst this is definitely commonplace for anyone who has gone through bodily trauma, we want to keep a close eye on it all the same.”
“Is there anything we can do?” James was quieter this time, as if she couldn’t hear him as he sat a metre away.
“She should rest, not do anything strenuous, drink lots of water – honestly there’s not much more to do than that, unless you have some numbing potions for the pain. If it lasts longer than a few days, and if any fever or more intense symptoms come up then send word again.”
“Ok, thanks.”
The light dimmed in the room and Y/N presumed that the face had disappeared from the fireplace. There was a few moments of silence before Lily and James spoke. They were likely having a conversation with expressions only to avoid scaring her. The pain had eased with her eyes shut, but she was still getting painful throbs across her neck and temple, and there was light bursting behind her eyes in pulses.
“I don’t know whats going on there, but it sounds like I won’t die, and I would really love one of those pain destroying potion whatevers,” Y/N mumbled, her voice soft from the effort.
“Yeah of course, I’ll bring you upstairs, Lil can you get the –“
“Yep, on it.”
Y/N felt arms wrap around her and then suddenly pull her upwards, carrying her presumably up towards the guest bedroom. She felt like sinking downwards into his arms until she was asleep, but the pain kept bringing her back up to the surface.
Eventually James lay her on her bed, pulled off her shoes and pulled up the blankets so they were covering her properly. Soft padding heading towards her bed indicated that Lily had followed them up.
“Here, sit up for a second,” Lily helped Y/N pull herself up and began pouring things into her throat. Y/N coughed at the coldness of the potion trickling down, but it quickly began to numb most of her body and she felt heavy and tired… so tired…
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sirius hissed, pain coursing through every vein, every muscle, every tiny particle that could have made up his body. He’d long since trained himself not to react, but he was sure his eyes were betraying him, bulging out and searching for Marlene who he heard scream moments before, but it was fading away as if they were dragging her somewhere else. Get the fuck up, now, do it, NOW.
He felt the pain ease slightly as whoever was casting took a moment before casting again and he took it, using every inch of strength he had left in his body. It felt like he was made of water, each limb reforming into flesh and bone as he pulled out his wand and cast across the room. Flames burst from each corner of the room, the pain easing almost completely as it did, the caster yelling loudly across from him. Sirius swung around to where he heard the noise, spotting Snape and flicking his wand towards him.
Snape was momentarily caught off guard but dodged out of the way and threw a spell back at him.
“Protego!” Sirius gasped, his feet slipping against the carpet as he edged towards the door and away from the fire.
“Don’t think you can get away from me so easily,” Snape growled at him, his eyes dark and menacing.
“If there’s anything in this life I’m counting on it’s being able to easily dodge you.” Sirius winked at him and threw a large stone like object into the room. Snape stepped back quickly, his arm outstretched – and then there was darkness, the room covered almost entirely in black dust. Sirius moved quickly, sprinting towards the door and sliding through it before Snape had a chance to fire off a spell in his direction.
He kept running down the hallway, listening closely for voices before he heard the snarl of Marlene’s voice behind him and he skidded to a stop and smashed into the door he could hear her from.
Lucius turned around quickly, glaring dangerously at Sirius but he shot a spell towards him instantly. Lucius blocked it with ease, but it gave Marlene the second’s distraction she needed to slide forwards off her chair and slam her feet into the backs of Lucius’s knees. He fell forwards and Sirius bounded over to her, grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the nearest window.
“Ever done a moving apparition before?” Sirius said, unlatching the window and opening it.
“I’m always ready to try new things.” Marlene grimaced.
“Ready?”
“Let’s go.”
They jumped from the window, Sirius closing his eyes and spinning as fast as he could as he thought of home. Of being with Y/N.
