you’re making peter watch that stupid movie again, the one where he literally drools whenever heath ledger comes onscreen. and joseph gordon-levitt. and… the list goes on.

it was your turn to pick for movie night, and you chose 10 things i hate about you. it’s one of your go-to’s. who doesn’t love a good old enemies to lovers rom com? peter clearly enjoys it too because he foams at the mouth every time you watch it. you think it’s because of julia stiles, and it is, but it’s also because of heath ledger and joseph gordon-levitt.

he could call it his bisexual awakening. only, you don’t know that yet.

“hey, pete? mj just texted. she’s inviting us to pride.”

you peer up at your boyfriend from your phone with a smile. peter takes his eyes off the tv momentarily to glance over at you. he draws you in closer with the arm he has around you, a small smile stretching across his lips.

“tell her we’ll be there. can’t break tradition.”

you peck peter’s shoulder and text your friend back on behalf of both of you.

mj has been out as a lesbian since high school, and you’re now well into college. your friend group goes with her to the city’s pride parade every year in honor of pride month. peter always feels welcome at pride. he feels at home, even. you’re there as allies, to support mj and the community. you’ve all been accepting of her from the very second she came out to you, embracing her with open arms.

the more pride parades peter attends, the more he finds his heart skipping a beat when he locks eyes with a cute guy or makes small talk, the more he watches that damn movie, the more he finds himself questioning his sexuality.

“damn, julia stiles has got you all hot and bothered,” you tease. “i don’t think you’ve blinked once during this whole movie.”

peter zoned out in the midst of his sexuality crisis, and he happened to be looking at the tv.

“reminds me of the time we watched the wolf of wall street and you kept staring at margot robbie’s-“

“c’mon, i was not. i was looking respectfully.”

“i’m not judging. there’s a reason men worship that movie, y’know.”

“babe, be serious.”

“i am being serious. shit, i was looking, too.”

peter buries his face in the side of your neck and groans.

should he break it to you that he was really staring at leonardo dicaprio? okay, and margot robbie. but, still.

“it’s okay to admit you have a crush, pete. i won’t take it personally,” you thread your fingers through his curls. “we’ve been together a long time now, yeah? i’m secure in us.”

you toy with peter’s hair. your free arm wraps around him. peter hugs your middle, his nose rubbing against the skin of your neck as he shakes his head.

“i talk about how much i love timothée chalamet all the time. you don’t mind.”

“everyone loves him. besides, it’s… it’s not that.”

“then what is it?”

you push peter back gently by his shoulder so he comes out of his hiding place in your neck. he holds you tighter. his lips form a line, brows knitting together.

this is about more than just some silly crush.

you pause the movie.

“i know that face, peter. what’s bothering you?”

he lets go of you, head hanging.

peter wants to tell you, he really does, but he’s scared. he’s scared and confused. he’s not sure what his attraction to guys means for him, or for either of you. how could you understand when he doesn’t understand himself?

the one thing peter is certain about is that he loves you. nothing could change that. you two are attached at the hip, you fucking live together. you’re his girlfriend, and his best friend.

but, what if he really is bisexual? how would you take it?

“i was looking at leonardo dicaprio, too”

you don’t quite hear peter because he mumbles.

“huh?”

“when we watched the wolf of wall street. i was looking at leonardo dicaprio, too.”

this time you hear him. you just don’t understand.

“i’m not sure what you mean, baby.”

you shift to face peter, scooting towards him on the couch. your eyes flick between his.

this is it. this is peter’s chance to say it, but he can’t get the words out. he doesn’t have them.

it’s not a matter of if you’ll accept him; he knows you will. he has no worries about that. you’re completely accepting of mj and the entire lgbtq+ community, so why would it be any different with your own boyfriend? what peter worries about is what’s going to happen to the two of you. you might not love him anymore. you might want to break up.

he’ll never know if he doesn’t try you, though.

“i was looking at margot robbie and leonardo dicaprio. do you get what i’m trying to say?”

he meets your eyes.

“kind of. could you say more?”

you grab ahold of his biceps, thumbs caressing his arms.

“i, uh, well… i’ve been thinking about it a lot. like, for a really long time. i’m not sure yet, still questioning and all, but i think i’m…”

he inhales a sharp breath.

“i’m bisexual.”

your features hold shock as you process this information. peter automatically assumes the worst and panics, going off on one of his nervous tangents.

“but this doesn’t change us at all. i still love you, y/n. i’m so, so in love with you. i just like guys, too. guys and girls. or… men and women, i should say,” he rambles. “definitely you, though. always you.”

he cringes at himself.

“do you still love me?”

your hands move up to his cheeks, squishing them from how passionately you cup them.

“of course i do.”

peter nods repeatedly, willing himself to take that in. you grin.

“that’s what bisexuality is, liking more than one gender. that includes the opposite,” you reassure. “i’ll always love you, peter benjamin parker, and you’re right. you being bisexual doesn’t change us one bit.”

you kiss peter’s forehead, letting your lips linger there.

“it doesn’t change you, either.”

peter captures your lips with his. you smile into the kiss, lips slotting softly with peter’s. he has a smile that mirrors yours when you both pull back.

that couldn’t have gone any better. he’s so happy he decided to come out to you, and you’re just as glad he felt that he could.

“does this mean i can finally talk about how hot heath ledger is when we watch this movie?”

“absolutely. be loud and proud.”

peter chuckles and pecks your lips. you play the movie, looping your arms around his neck.

“speaking of pride, looks like we’ll be celebrating you at the pride parade this year, too.”

so it's something i've seen a few times, back in the day, but i didn't know i was trans/nonbinary at the time so i didn't explore it too much.

but literally, i've been obsessing over the idea of trans!erica for the last few weeks since i've decided to dip my toes back into fandom and here's what i think:

erica has the biggest transformation on the show imo and her storyline could really VERY easily have been a trans storyline. so here is my trans!erica head canon (that turned into like a mini fic):

erica has been struggling with her feelings of gender and sexuality for quite some time, but doesn't really know what they mean. until stiles.

stiles, this bisexual king, who has spent hours and hours obsessing and hyper-fixating on figuring out his own sexuality and reconfirming his own gender. he's learned so much about the queer community since discovering he might be bi that he's practically an expert on the subject.

erica doesn't really know what to make of stiles, but when he comes out as bi, she wonders if maybe he'd be a safe person to talk to. after all, he did do a bunch of research when he learned she was epileptic so he could better support her and yell at people for incorrect biases. he's always been nice to her, really.

she finally gets the nerve to talk to him, and when she does, she blurts, "so you're bi."

but stiles knows that look. he's worn it on his face a million times before he met derek. so he takes her hand and walks her to a more private spot.

they start talking, and the more stiles talks, the more relaxed erica feels around him. she finally, and quietly, asks, "what if i like... dresses and skirts and high heels and lipstick and... girl things."

stiles launches into all the research he's done on trans identities, and even recommends her some trans and nonbinary books he'd read in his rabbit hole. erica types the recommendations into her phone, despite already memorizing the titles.

she works up the courage to get them from the local library, where her crush, boyd, volunteers. she's shaking when she checks out the books, but boyd simply lifts one up and says, "this is one of my favourites. you'll have to let me know your thoughts once you've finished it."

so erica starts with that one. she loves it. she cries, she smiles, she laughs, and she clings to the characters as if she was them. and then she reads the next, and the next.

she tells stiles she's trans first. he's delighted and more than happy to help her in any way possible.

she changes her name after the main character in boyd's favourite book.

erica and stiles go shopping. it's a disaster. stiles asks if it's okay if he tells some of his friends, who will be more than understanding, willing, and protective of her secret, who can help her shop for women's clothes better than he can. she hesitates but agrees.

lydia, allison, kira, and malia all come to her rescue. within a weekend, erica has been completely transformed. she knows the basics of makeup. knows what clothes she likes, and what clothes she hates. she's broken in her new pairs of leopard print high heels.

and she's gained a thousand times the confidence she used to have.

"so," lydia asks, as she paints erica's nails. "tell us. have your eye on anyone?"

"well... i do, but i don't think he'd like me like this."

the girls all look at her, and then allison says with a decisiveness that warms erica's heart: "if that's true, then he's not the one for you."

"you should give him a chance though," kira encourages. "maybe he'll be different."

"maybe." but erica's not sure.

she looks over at the library books she still has to return.

maybe.

and maybe happens on a friday. the library is usually quieter then. she spends over an hour getting ready, changing her mind, and trying to figure out what to wear. but she manages. she only has to message the girls' group chat twice with make-up questions, so she counts that as a win.

walking into the library, she's nervous. she doesn't know what to expect. but there he is, beautiful as ever, standing behind the counter. their eyes meet. she almost expects him to make a face.

instead he says, "i don't believe we've properly met. i'm vernon boyd."

"erica," she says, stumbling over her chosen name. "erica reyes."

he smiles and asks, "so, what did you think of the book?"

and she knows. right then and there, this is the love of her life.

so when monday rolls around, she enters the cafeteria in her new look, embracing her true self, and has more confidence than she's ever experienced before. she doesn't know what shocks people more: her coming out as trans or her sitting with vernon boyd and holding hands.

but she's the happiest she's ever been.

I’ve found that the most telling evidence that Something Else is amiss in the broad dislike of Scott is the lack of enthusiasm for Sciles. Compare it to Supernatural, which was also big at that time: 2 young attractive male leads (DOB being 3rd billed aside), good chemistry (both on-screen and IRL as friends), comedic dynamic, unbreakable bond, occasional flirting, etc. Sciles should have been THE pairing by almost any metric. Sterek had the antagonistic dynamic to set it apart, but given how much people water it down to fun banter or erase it altogether in fic, that canonical difference clearly wasn’t all that essential to shippers’ enjoyment. Allison comes up ALL the time as a complaint but other fandoms seem to be able to demonize and/or erase canon girlfriends without much of an issue. It leaves very, very few explanations when you look at it from that POV.

When I first entered fandom, I wasn't very interested in relationships; I focused more on character development in relation to plot. When I wrote, it was primarily gen fiction. As time passed, positive interactions with the fandom (there can be some!) led me to consider relationships as an important part of the greater whole. But one thing I never quite understood is the hostility to both Scott and Stiles's friendship and Scott and Allison's relationship. Unlike some people, I don't think that a non-canon relationship like romantic Stiles and Derek or Stiles and Peter simply can't work. I've written Sterek myself. It's always confused me how fandom seemed to seek validation for those ships by tearing down both of Scott's primary canonical relationships, which are completely unrelated.

Now, you know, I eventually came to several conclusions about why this happens, which I have talked about a great deal and will continue to talk about. But it's always key to me when actually grappling with an issue is an attempt to understand the other side. So I asked myself, for instance, why was Scott and Allison's canon romantic relationship so unpopular? It seems to me that those opposed to it have four major complaints which I have seen expressed in print.

It was heterosexual, and that is somehow bad.

It was stupid and dangerous: a newly bitten teenage werewolf falling in love with the teenage daughter of werewolf hunters was a recipe for disaster.

It distracted the lead protagonist (Scott) from the issues he should be addressing and the people to which he should be listening.

As the primary canon relationship of the first two seasons, parts of the audience felt it was being forced on them.

With the exception of the first one, which still mystifies me to this day, these others could have some value. I mean, the Romeo-and-Juliet trope is an old one, and people may be tired, in this modern age, of seeing it being re-enacted again. So, why don't you take an amble with me over to AO3? If these are legitimate fandom concerns, then it should hold up when we examine Teen Wolf's peer group of supernatural adventure shows.

Let's look at the famous Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003); it seems that the top two ships represented on AO3 are ...

#1 Spike and Buffy Summers

#2 Angel and Buffy Summers

Strange that the heterosexual canon ships of a vampire slayer and a vampire remain two most popular subjects. But that's an old show. We've changed. Let's look at something with more direct relevance. Tyler Posey was up for the role of Jacob in the Twilight film series (2008-2012). What ships are most popular there?

#1 Edward Cullen and Bella Swan

#2 Alice Cullen and Jasper Hale

Okay, interesting but there are still differences. There is less emphasis on inherent conflict, I guess. And those are movies, let's move back to television. (I will now switch from 'heterosexual' to 'man/woman' because some of these characters are definitely bisexual.)

True Blood (2008-2014) was a far more adult television show, so it would expand beyond the mainstream that the fandom finds so cloying:

#2 Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse

Or maybe not. But that's premium cable targeted at a different audience. Let's look at the competitors, such as The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017) which ran coterminous with our show.

Or its spin off, The Originals (2013-2018)

It's kind of weird that these all have a certain pattern that the most popular ships to write about are all man/woman ships with built-in oppositional obstacles. Now, there are shows whose fandom are focused on non-heterosexual relationships, such as Supernatural, and while I haven't watched it and never will, I'm told that one of the reasons is that any canon man/woman ship was doomed by the narrative impulse to whack female characters. There's Legacies, which I don't know much about but it seems to be focused on a woman/woman ship and isn't that refreshing?

But I think, to paraphrase my favorite show, if three times is a pattern, five times might be a trend. It seems that fandom doesn't really have any problem exploring canonical problematic supernatural man/woman relationships as long as there is a particular trait among all the people participating in those relationships. Can you spot the pattern for yourself? Can someone explain to me why these are the most popular ships in their respective fandoms but those same characteristics make Scott and Allison's relationship distasteful. Of course, and always, we have to remember one thing

How I Picture Peter Rupert Atticus Thornberry: (plays Y/N in my one shots)

Born: August 11th, 1997

Somewhat shy but there's a fiery passion hidden there. Would die for those he loves and trusts. Lives with the Stilinski's - sometimes (depends on the one shot) sees Stiles and Scott as siblings. His original family were also murdered by Kate Argent. Usually a were fox and sometimes an emissary and sometimes just human. 5'9" but honestly looks tiny despite it - even next to Parrish he looks small. Covered in scars and freckles - the scars won't heal for some reason. Hair ranges between a strawberry brown - more red than brown - to a light chestnut brown. Eyes are hazel but change between green, blue and yellowish depending on the light

How I picture Mieczyslaw Noah "Stiles" Stilinski:

Born: April 9th, 1996

Hyperactive teen with a quick mind for puzzles. ADHD. Would do anything for those he cares about.  5'10" but tries to make himself look smaller sometimes. Has a nervous tick where he rubs the back of his neck. Cognac eyes that can only be described to be puppy dog eyes. Brownish black hair - depends on the light/ Canonically bisexual, Usually ends up saving the day. Usually is pack Mom

How I Picture Scott Michael McCall:

Born: October 8th, 1995

Good intentions but usually goes wrong, Can be a neglectful friend. Doesn't always get along with Peter Thornberry. Soft boi. Tanned skin, tattoo still vibrant. Also 5'10".  Eyes so dark they're almost black. Jet black hair.  Alpha but doesn't always deserve it. Secondary Alpha to Derek Hale.

How I Picture Derek Clark Hale:

Born December 25th, 1988

The true and main alpha. Reserved - scared to get hurt again. Struggles to let anyone in. Stiles will always be his anchor. Comes across as a sourwolf but is really very sweet. 6' 0" with broad shoulders that make him look a lot taller. Jet black hair and beard. Sunflower hazel eyes that change colour slightly depending on the light. Passionate and very protective of his pack

How I Picture Liam Samuel Dunbar:

Born: July 7th, 1999

Puppy and baby. His anchor is his anger like Derek taught him. Sweet but can get very passionate when he's invested. 5'8" and hates it as he looks tiny compared to most of the pack. Hair started off a blondish brown which over the years gets darker until he's a full blown brunette. Electric blue eyes that hold most of his emotions. Bisexual disaster most of the time

How I Picture Isaac Elijah Lahey

Born September 22nd 1995

Peter Thornberry's first beta. Very soft and extremely sarcastic. Claustrophobic. Possessive over protecting Peter T - even to some of the pack mates like Theo. 6'1" but always ducks his head and slouches to make himself smaller. Has a lot of PTSD that he usually goes to Stiles, Lydia or Peter T for comfort. His hair starts off blondish brown which over the years gets darker until it's hard to decipher if he's blond or brunette. Ice blue eyes that darken when angry or scared

How I Picture Peter Angus Hale:

Born: October 27th, 1970

Is an asshole to everyone because he doesn't want anyone to know he feels things. Very family orientated, even when on a power trip. Is an amazing cook. Tries to get the pack's trust but usually only gets Peter T to trust him. Takes Allison in like another daughter as he loves her fire and rage. 5'8" and will do anything to look taller. His eyes are a mixture between gunmetal blue and ice blue. It's his eyes that hold the true emotions he's feeling - Peter T is the only one who can read him. His hair is a very dark brown that can also look greyish brown with a few stray greys that Peter T finds hot

How I Picture Jackson Grant Whittemore:

Born: June 15th, 1996

Hides behind his asshole personality - Very misunderstood and struggled with his upbringing. Is practically a brother like figure to Peter T usually. He's actually very funny and sweet but does not let anyone see it - Peter T had to force it out of him at first. Like Isaac, he's very protective of Peter T. Finally accepted he's part of Derek and Scott's joined pack. 5'7" but holds himself taller than that. Hair is majority blond but as he gets older he gains a few more brunette strands. Baby blue eyes that are usually rimmed with hidden pain - ashamed of his werewolf blue eyes

Becomes an emissary of sorts - helped by Stiles and Peter T. 5'8" but doesn't mind it because he's ever so slightly taller than Liam. I just wrote so much in response to this. I was about to hit post. And then.....

So here's try number 2. Probably much shorter lol.

🛒- What kind of themes, imagery scenes offer or repeatedly appear in your work?

If its horror it usually psychological in nature or source and it usually has a water scene. A lot of unseen creeping.

I love a character who usually puts on a strong face bring forced to rely on others especially in a found family capacity.

Whump is a big part of that for me too.

I write a surprising amount of just like, slice of life cute daily scenes.

And I am a pretty big fan of the whole love-confession-as-I'm-injured-and-losing-conciousness-because-I-think-I'm-gonna-die-and-so-I-need-to-tell-you-how-much-i-truly-care-about-you-as-I-sacrifice-myself-so-that-you-may-live, sort of thing. It's always a crowd pleaser (it's me I'm the crowd of 1)

❌️ What tropes do you not like/hate to write

Controversial opinion maybe? I don't like to write Soulmate AUs. I only ever read them once in a while maybe if it's interesting on a conceptual level, like they change up the formula, but. ... I as a person don't believe in soul mates or destiny so very hard for me to get into. (But I appreciate the ppl who do write it. It's just not my thing.)

Also certain AUs mu writing just doesn't vibe with even though I do respect them as Aus. Like Mafia AUs or Serial Killer AUs. I don't think I could hack it, but I respect what u do.

3 male characters I love: STILES STILES STILES he is one of THE BEST BOYS on TV!!! I love this character so much! Second, Derek with his broody dry sarcasm, absolutely delightful. Ah, let's complete the trio of main characters and take Scott, he's honestly so funny and sweet

3 female characters I love: KIRA! I love Kira so much she is so adorable and such a disaster in the best of ways, also I'm sorry but badass kitsune??? Hot damn! Second would be Allison, I always found her incredibly compelling and I am still mad at how she died (but then I'm also still mad at how they shelved Kira. Mh. Here's a trend for you. Date Scott McCall and you get canned <_< Weird writing decisions imo, considering he's the titular lead). And thiiird Melissa McCall, she's a great mom, even if she took some to adjust to Scott's situation, once she did, she was ride and die

3 romantic ships I love: Sterek, at the top, obviously. Stiles and Derek are top-tier. From the canon ships, it'd be Scott/Allison I was honestly so surprisingly much invested in this? And then Kira/Malia, ever since their dance in the club in Mexico!!! That was so yes, finally a femslash ship has crossed my radar for this show!! They were cute and Kira deserves to be happy

3 platonic dynamics I love: Scott-Stiles, their friendship is the backbone of this franchise. Second, mh, I do find the dynamic of Scott and Derek very interesting too, particularly in fics where the McCall pack and the Hale pack coexist (as it should be). And thirdly the Lydia-Allison friendship, I love me a good girls-friendship

3 favorite moments in canon: When Stiles carried Derek in the pool, that was *chef's kiss*, absolutely. Stiles in the hospital, thinking he's going to die of the same thing his mom did, but then the nogitsune reveal - Dylan's acting was incredible in the dual role. Brilliant. Third one is really hard, because despite having such shit writing for the most part, there are absolutely brilliant comedic pearls in this show. Okay let's go with one of my favorite shots, when Stiles and Scott are in the gay bar looking for Danny and Scott suddenly realizes it's a gay bar and turns toward Stiles, who is just surrounded by drag queens and goes "ya think" like he was in his element there and Jeff still trying to convince us that boy isn't bi lol what a fool

3 favorite headcanons: BISEXUAL STILES. Boyd and Erica and Allison LIVE FUCK YOU. Hale pack coexisting with the McCall pack

3 least favorite things about it: ahahahahahaha *ugly sobbing* how do I narrow this down to 3? *more sobbing* okay top has to be the existence of season 6B that was just shit the only good thing about it was FBI!Stiles and the way Derek carried him bridal style but other than that this shit half-season has no rights. Second? KIRA and how she was shelved, like, they didn't even fridge her the way they did with Allison, letting her die a heroic sacrifice death, instead they took this young woman with her whole life ahead of her and... and... put her in the sand to be gone forever what the fuck what the fuck what the actual fuck (plus the behind the scenes shit I mean hot damn to not tell Arden that they'd write Kira out of the show???) And third is genuinely hard, like, probably the existence of this good for nothing movie sequel and that they want to make a spin-off show from it

The Teen Wolf characters and their Stranger Things counterparts (Vecna is obviously the Nogitsune, and Stiles is definitely both Will and Eleven)

Stiles is Steve... not just because they're both a bat-wielding badass. They're not a perfect match (... nobody is, tbh) but they have similar traits — protecting people, putting others first, a little bit of a (bisexual) disaster. If I squint really hard, I could even see him as (s4) Dustin. The snarky guy, who figures shit out and keeps being exasperated by people who don't have any faith in him even though he is the one who's always right.

I'm not even sure if Vecna would be the nogitsune. Nogi killed for fun, I can see it... but also, not really. But I couldn't tell you another Teen Wolf villain who'd fit. So, eh. Unless we go the "other realm" angle. Then I'd go with the 6b thing thing... Anuk-Ite? But..... 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm having a lot of trouble to find counterparts. I could see Robin as Kira | Nancy as Allison | Hopper as Sheriff | Joyce as Melissa | Mike as Scott.

Those are the ones I'm more or less confident about. ... and maybe Eddie as Isaac? But like, that's already a reach tbh. It's more of a "if my life depended on it, I'd choose him" type of situation. Same with Billy. Nobody really fits... but if I had to choose, I'd go with Gabe or Kate... or maybe even Jackson — forbthe king of school aspect? But 🤷🏼‍♀️ they're all a bit of a reach.

Scott reads to me as a guy who's just very comfortable in his sexuality and masculinity so he has a normal reaction to being found attractive by men. He takes their interest as a compliment and moves on with his life.

But Stiles? That boy is a whole bisexual. He isn't moving on, he is DEEPLY INVESTED in whether men find him attractive and he needs DETAILS.
