#these are some of my thoughts about luke cage season 2

i finally finished luke cage and i’m sick to my mf stomach there’s no season 3! seeing luke become the very thing he sought to destroy, and not being able to further explore that in a whole nother season is an injustice to both the marvel and black communities! although i will say, i find it curious that out of all the defenders, (haven’t watched iron fist yet tho to be fair) luke is the only one to seemingly become the villain. in season 3 daredevil, we can see matt’s internal battle about his views on killing and the justice system, and throughout all of jessica jones we see jessica continuously try to prove to herself that she’s not a killer. but even then, even tho both those narratives could’ve easily led to them becoming what they respectively feared most, it didn’t. even frank (MY NIGGA). ofc he’s a killer, but he still lived by a code which makes him a hero, anti-hero to be specific. but in the second season when he thought he killed those women at billy’s warehouse, he breaks down bc now he thinks he’s the villain everyone’s made him out to be. my point is: all four characters went through something in their respective shows that could’ve led them to becoming the villain of the story, but only one actually did become it. and EYYYYEEEE think it’s bc he’s the big, bald, black (specifically darkskin) one. nonetheless, i still loved seeing his evolution and i’m still sick there’s no season 3. luke cage season 2 was good tv (except for the reunion they tried to push with luke and his dad. they did something similar in jessica jones with trish and her mom and i hated it both times).

'Stupid Cupid, Stop Hitting On Me' by Bluefire510
Juke
Luke, a troublemaker cupid, meets Julie, who is also one of Love HQ's toughest cases to crack.
She claims to have no desire to fall in love.
But Luke is always up for a challenge.
Let's see if he could get Julie to fall for her Perfect Match by next Valentine's Day.... and maybe teach her all about love while he's at it.
*Operation Hashtag Rulie by where_you_go
Reggie/Luke/Julie
“Explain yourselves,” Caleb ground out.
“Uh…it’s not what it looks like?” Reggie tried, wincing.
“Oh really, Reginald? Because it looks like two of my most popular band members from a family-friendly band are fornicating in public!”
-
Julie and Reggie get caught up in a PR misunderstanding that leads to them "dating" for a few months. It's not a big deal, or at least it wouldn't be, if Luke would stop acting so weird.
*Unexpected by Phantom_Lover
Luke is determined to breeze through his senior year and onto mega stardom (which means avoiding school, and Principal Lessa, as much as possible). That is until he's forced to work side-by-side with quiet good-girl, Julie Molina, on the big end-of-the-year talent show. The two struggle to see eye to eye, and meeting the all-important deadline seems impossible until something unexpected happens between them.

Julie Molina has always thought it would be rather exciting to meet a pirate.
Unfortunately, she's right.
"Julie, Julie Patterson, I'm a maid here in the governor's household," she bluffs. And she wishes that Luke's name hadn't been the first that she'd come up with, because the long-haired pirate's eyebrows raise immediately.
"Luke got married?" he says, sounding oddly betrayed.
His blonde companion looks equally gutted. "He didn't even tell us."

Alex Mercer doesn't want to go home for Christmas; but if he has to, he's certainly gonna raise a little hell. Enter: Willie, the cute guy in his history of English class who would be the perfect fake boyfriend candidate.
So if you wanna piss off your parents, date me to scare them, show them you're all grown up. If long hair and tattoos are what attract you, baby then you're in luck.

“I know this is going to sound kinda crazy…but, could you maybe pretend to be in love with me for a few minutes?”
When Julie Molina approaches Luke Patterson at a bar and asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend, she never expects to find herself in a position where she and Luke have to keep up the ruse for longer than five minutes. Figures that out of all of the strangers she could have approached that night, she’d gone and picked the one guy who just so happens to be in a rock band that’s on the brink of blowing up.

julie molina has had nothing but a tough life. after losing both her parents early on, she was left in the care of her step-monster karen and her two step-daughters. while working at her late father's diner, completing household duties and being at karen's beck and call at all hours, julie was well on her way to getting accepted into the college of her dreams and having enough money to move out.

But it had to be today. Julie had this crazy feeling in her stomach. Not nervous butterflies. More like fireflies that were trying to zap her (Do fireflies electrocute people? She should google that). It felt like that moment her parents spoke about all the time. The day they met. And when they first spoke to each other. Her mom always says that an intense zap went through her whole body.
Are you new or nervous? Julie has been waiting a (short)lifetime to hear those words be said to her.
She walked down a few more steps in the auditorium and found a spot. It was one of the few seats left in the room that wasn’t all the way up in the back. She sat down and settled into the uncomfortable, hard, plastic chair and took a deep shaky breath. The prof was nowhere to be seen. But there was a cute boy in the seat next to her. He had sort of long brown hair that was covered with a grey toque. And he was wearing a cut off t-shirt and you could see his very nice arms. Julie’s breathing was still shaky, and his attractiveness wasn’t helping the situation.

After the whirlwind her life has been since the boys showed up it’s not that surprising that Julie would be a little tired. But is it normal that she’s more exhausted than she’s ever been? Daniel Ricciardo on his passion for combat sports, a walkout song and the time he asked Lewis Hamilton to ‘fight’
McLaren Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo, who currently sits seventh in the driver standings heading into this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, is among the world’s best behind a steering wheel. But how would he fare if he swapped his racing gloves for boxing or MMA gloves?
“I’d love to do a charity boxing match or something just to feel that adrenaline of walking to a ring,” Ricciardo said. “It’s on my to-do list for sure. At school I had a few little fights but nothing crazy. Nothing I’d brag about here.”
Ricciardo says he learned the sport of boxing from a friend who fought as an amateur growing up. However in recent years his love of combat shifted more toward mixed martial arts, a sport that is “quite beautiful. It’s an art form and I was just taken by it.”
The Australian — who boasts 4.6 million followers on Instagram — rarely misses a fight night, whether that’s a small card or pay-per-view. Every Monday he gears up for multiple MMA podcasts to hear analysis on what just took place in the cage.
In an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Ricciardo opened up about his love for fighting, which driver would make the best opponent and why Lewis Hamilton turned down an opportunity to get in the ring against him.
You’re an avid fight fan. How did this passion for the sport start?
One of my best friends growing up, when he was growing up, he was doing amateur boxing and got very good at it. I was then doing my racing and he was doing his boxing. We were both on a bit of an unconventional path — both individual sports, not really the typical sports the kids at school were doing. We had that in common. Once I started taking my racing more seriously I began taking my fitness more seriously. So I started going to his gym to just train. I really enjoyed doing it. But the truth is — I don’t want to lie to anyone. I’m not a fighter. As much as I would picture beating the bully up at school, it’s not me. But I just fell in love with not only doing it but also watching it.
I enjoyed watching boxing but it was really when I got exposed to MMA … It just had me. It was back in 2011 when I started properly getting into it. It was the quickest sport I had ever been absorbed by. I was all in.
My whole YouTube feed is just all MMA shows, whether it’s press conferences, interviews, podcasts. It’s just full of MMA stuff. I’m a full nerd now.
Being in Australia and traveling a lot, are you forced to get up at weird times for fights?
The beauty was I was in LA when (Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 2) was on so it was prime time and I was happy. But normally in Europe, it’s 4 a.m. or 5 a.m., which isn’t as good. Any kind of sporting event that you look forward to, it’s always cool when it’s in the evening because you have all day to get ready and talk about it. If you wake up at 4 a.m. it’s like “ugh,” and then you’re straight into it so there’s not as much of a build-up. But it’s all good.
So do you still train at all?
No. To races, my trainer carries some pads and gloves just to stay a little sharp and change it up. If I’m getting my reflexes with some tennis balls, maybe I throw in a bit of a boxing combination or something. Again, I’m not saying I’m good or anything. But I just enjoy the whole movement part of it.
Boxing was cool and I enjoyed watching it growing up. But there was something with MMA where there’s just so many different disciplines and the matchups … as a contest it was so much more open and for that, exciting. I feel — I know it’s not always the case — you can kind of tell in boxing if someone is getting momentum, the advantage. It’s like “this guy is going to win the fight.” But in MMA, it’s like “this guy is winning standing but if this goes to the ground, it’s back to square one.” So I just loved it. I was really immersed by it all.
Did you have a particular fighter or fight that got you hooked early on?
One of the first events I watched was UFC 116. Chris Leben was on the card and I think he was losing the fight. And then he got a triangle with probably 20 seconds to go in the third round, so that was really exciting. Stephan Bonnar was also on that card and he got a really cool finish on “The Polish Experiment” Krzysztof Soszynski. That was a card for me where I was very taken from that. Then I discovered “The Ultimate Fighter.” I just binge-watched all of those (seasons).
In terms of fighters, Leben was a character, I liked him. Carlos Condit. I’d say Condit and Cub Swanson were two guys I got behind early on. Condit, I love his style and the way he carries himself.
Have you been to a lot of cards in person?
The very first one I did was the best for me personally. To this day, it’s my favorite sporting event I’ve ever been to: (Conor) McGregor-(Chad) Mendes. Vegas in July 2015. Obviously McGregor, but he wasn’t yet a champion and still kind of on the rise. It was the energy and atmosphere. It was just wild.
The whole event too. (Robbie) Lawler-(Rory) MacDonald, which had the fight of the year. Every fight on the main card I think was a finish, so I got very lucky at my first event.
I’ve done (Michael) Bisping-(Anderson) Silva in the UK. That was a great contest as well.
There are a lot of great fighters from Australia and New Zealand like Israel Adesanya, Alexander Volkanovski and Robert Whittaker. Have you had a chance to meet any of them?
I haven’t met them. A couple of them I’ve had interactions with on social media. But I love Whittaker, obviously Volkanovski is killing it. I’m fairly patriotic to the Aussie fighters. If they are fighting, 99 percent of the time I’ll be supporting them. But one of my good buddies is roommates with Luke Rockhold, so I got to know Luke the last couple of years. I was trying to do some training over Christmas with him but it didn’t end up working out.
I know you’re a big shoey guy. What do you think of Tai Tuivasa doing it after wins?
I’ve had a bit of contact with Tuivasa as well. It’s obviously great. But one thing I can’t get behind is spitting. That’s a little extra.
Plus he’ll grab some random fan’s shoe.
He definitely takes it to the next level. It’s cool that — as disgusting as it is — we have some traditions like this.
Shifting a bit to F1, have you ever gotten into any big fights on the track? What was the worst fight you’ve gotten in?
Earlier in go-karting there was a bit more. Unfortunately in F1, I guess because you’re on the world’s stage, even if you push someone you probably are going to get a fine or get penalized. At times it’s a little too clean. But I’m still waiting for the day that someone confronts me and I just lay them out (laughs).
You also just seem a lot more laid back than a lot of other drivers, so you’d probably not be my first choice of someone getting into a fight soon.
I’m all talk, it would be nice obviously to not have to fight anyone. But no one would expect it from me. Even when I tell people I’m a fight fan, people are like “oh really? You’re into that? You seem too nice to like that.”
But to get where I have in the sport, you need a bit of a killer streak in you. I do have it, but don’t always show it.
What other driver would make the best fighter?
I know some guys have done — for fitness — hit some pads. Randomly, he doesn’t have a seat this year, but Daniil Kvyat started doing quite a lot of boxing last year for his training. I saw a few clips and it started to look like he knew what he was doing. I would say he would be the guy who has the most idea. I’d put him and myself up there. The rest I don’t think stand a chance.
So if you had a charity event, you don’t have anyone in particular you’d want to go against?
To be honest, I actually asked Lewis Hamilton. At the beginning of 2016, he posted a video on his Instagram hitting pads. I was as well at the time, so I was like “hey, let’s do a charity fight.” I asked him in person. But he didn’t bite on that one so I was a little sad.
I might re-ask the question.
What about Max Verstappen? For people who watched the first season of the F1 show “Drive to Survive” on Netflix, I’m sure they would love to see you guys throw down at some point.
That would have been cool as well (laughs). Max would be a good competitor in the ring. The way he drives, he’s quite stubborn. He’d be a hard guy to put away. He’s probably the guy that you’d choke him and he’s going to sleep and not tapping. That would make an interesting one.
In contrast, is there an MMA fighter you’d like to race on the track?
An obvious one would be Conor McGregor. To hear in his Irish accent all kinds of things, that would make pretty good television. And he loves his cars. It’s obvious, but that would probably be the best.
How often would you say you watch fights now? Not just PPVs, right?
Unless I have something like work or another commitment, I’m watching it every week. Mondays I’m getting ready for every podcast. I sound like a real nerd but it’s just an addiction. I love it. Anyone doing that for Formula 1, I’d be like “you’re such a nerd,” but here I am doing it with MMA.
Is it hard to follow everything during the race season?
If I can’t see it live, then 100 percent I’m going to watch the replay or buy it later. But it’s also a good escape. If I’m traveling and I’m in between races, to get my mind away from my competition, I like to watch it. I also try to pick up things as well. Whether it’s from a mental point of view … I’ll look at the walkouts and how they are behaving. I try to figure out if they are really as calm and collected as they are portraying or if it’s a bit of a facade. I’m trying to work out what I can use in my events.
Do you have a walkout song prepared if you were to fight?
I’ve thought about it. The short answer is no. You typically have to have something heavy and fast, but I fell in love with Chris Weidman’s “Won’t Back Down.” It’s not typically a song that will pump you up but it’s so iconic and now it’s his, it’s very fitting.
I’d go for something more lyrically powerful as opposed to instrumental. I loved Max Holloway’s, I think it’s called Mount Everest (by Labrinth). (X)

Thoughts on Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix? It has some a-ma-zing whump.
Confession time!
I actually couldn't make it through the whole show. I couldn't make it through any of the Netflix Marvel shows all the way. I made it through season 1 of Jessica Jones and the first 4 episodes of season 2, two episodes of Luke Cage, and 1 season of Daredevil. I didn't even try the Defenders or Iron Fist and I forgot about Punisher. I just got soooo bored so quickly. They all move so damn slowly plot wise and I got so bored!! I wanted to love them. I did. They're Marvel. But I got so bored. I wanted to love Daredevil but I just couldn't get into it. 😞
I do love that it has some incredible whump though. Matt Murdock is the best and he whumps soooooo good. Like I've seen the gifsets and I've skipped to certain scenes just to watch the whump and it's incredible. I looooove the broken rib/collapsed lung scene. And I may not know what happened but 3x01 has some GREAT beaten up whump. And any time he loses his hearing too? God it's good! I LOVE IT!
So yeah lol. I love the whump so much but the show? Meh. Not on my fav list.

Lucky Kentucky ch. 1
Tumblr media
Chapter 2
Hello there, this is my new Rockstar!Bucky x Reader fic. It was heavily inspired by my love of seventies mega rockstars, Almost Famous, Classic Rock, and a little bit of personal whimsy. I hope you enjoy, and read responsibly.
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ : cussing, sexy times, drugs, booze, smoking, objectification, fornication, liberation, and a litany of other sordid topics and traumas.
Your name didn’t matter, at least not so far as you could tell. They called you Kentucky, sometimes if they felt cheeky, Bluegrass. You liked it, the first band that gave you that name was some shitty college band out of Detroit. They were convinced they were gonna be the next Led Zepplin. They called it quits three years later, a good old fashioned Rock n’ Roll suicide, booze, women, and drugs. The finer things always gets the best amateurs. However, their lead singer had a way with words, he came up with the nickname. He also wrote a beautiful song about a girl named Kentucky, who he just couldn’t swing, some big named country superstar sang the song and the last you’d heard he had been writing for the best of the best since. This earned you your title, Lucky Kentucky. A bit on the nose for your taste, but it made perfect sense. You kept following the music, you went to a band in L.A., the day you left, they signed a record deal with Sony. The next was a little English girl and her backing band, her first tour of England with you landed her a tour of the US faster than they could say ‘Burbon.’
You are what is known in the music business as a road manager, so far as you could tell, this was the job you were born to do. You made schedules, you supplied booze and other artifacts, you got hotels, paid off paparazzi, packed busses, and shoved half out of their mind rock stars on to stages in more countries than you could count, you couldn’t imagine any better life. You were the best of the best, you were who the record company called when everyone else had given up. You were a fixer, and an incredibly talented one at that. You had a gift for taking a mediocre side show band, and turning them into headliners.
So when you got the call from Tony and Pepper that you had to fix The Howling Comandos, you were shocked. They were big time, nothing like your usual fixer upper opener that you could make insta stars. They certainly weren’t your crowd, but you always had a problem saying no to Pepper, Tony’s company manager. Tony was a talented mixer, and a gifted album technician. So when he started his own label, it blew up pretty quickly. The comandos were the first band he signed. They had won Album of the Year their first Grammy season without even batting an eyelash. So once business started booming, Pepper took over the paper work, and Tony did what he did best, Fucking around with a mixing board. You had met them when you started working with Natasha and the Widows, a Blondie style punk outfit. They had a pension for eating men alive. Eventually, it got in the way of their success, so you stepped in and saved the band from total destruction. You and the starks had been thick as theives since.
“Tony, you mean to tell me, that the Commandos, the biggest artists of the decade, need my help?” You scoffed down the line, checking the Widows out of the last hotel of their tour with Greta Van Fleet.
“Yes Bluegrass, I do. Barnes is going through some existential heart break shit ‘cause ole bitch called of the wedding, and fucked the Guitarist of their opener. He’s been all drugs, booze, and sappy shit since, and someone’s gotta get the mother fucker back on stage. I’m Loosing money here Kentucky, something’s gotta give.” Tony sounded livid, there were very few times where Tony was as frazzled as this, so you knew it was serious.
“Alright, but I have conditions.” You sighed, you thought you could hear the sound of Pepper weeping tears of joy, but you couldn’t be sure. “I want the Widows to open, I’m not done with them yet Stark they’ve got some potential that still needs to be tapped. I want Frankie on security, I want Wanda for wardrobe and makeup, I want Vision for my techie, and I’m taking Peter as my Head roadie.” It was a big ask, but if you were doing this, you were gonna need the best possible team.
“Jeez woman, rob the treasure chest would yah? You want all of them? You just asked me for the entire roster. They’re on other tours! I can’t just- HEY! Woman don’t you-“ you heard a slap and an ow, and suddenly you were with the one and only Pepper Potts- Stark.
“Kentucky? You have a deal. You can have the Allstars in three months, everyone’s tours should be wrapping up, that puts you just in time for festival season. You up to it?” Pepper sounded like someone had just kicked her puppy. So you knew, you were the only one that could save the day.
“Virginia? Count me in. Give me the three months to plan and connect with the team and I’ll make sure James Barnes makes it onto that bus.” You could practically taste her relief through the receiver. What had you just signed up for.
————————————————————————
You’d done it. Six months, 7 bus rentals, 75 hotels, 107 plane rides, 20 festivals, 95 shows, 89 cities, and roughly 200 people later, you had managed to construct the American leg of one of the biggest and longest tours you had ever seen. All it took was two months, and 23 bottles of Jack Daniels, and you had done it. Now all you had to do was meet the band, and have your first tour meeting.
You had never been so nervous to meet a group of men in your life. Normally, these meetings we’re pretty laid back and informal. Lots of getting to know you, and goofing off. This time, you were in charge of a multi-million dollar tour that could make or break the band of the decades d ruin your career. No pressure. Needless to say, you were fairly nervous.
You were relieved upon arrival that the first people to make it in were the people who seemed to be the most reliable. Vision and Wanda were quietly whispering to eachother in the corner as always, their hands gently intertwined as they surveyed the rest of their new subjects. Frankie was standing off in another corner looking like an immovable brick wall. His sunglasses firmly in place on his nose, looking scary as always. Peter was off with the widows flirting with their drummer. You didn’t think it would end well, seeing as MJ was a bit of a hot head, and Peter was akward and nerdy, but to your surprise, they seemed to be getting along swimmingly. Natasha and Carol were staring at a book full of something, if you had to guess, it would be song lyrics of some variety, and to your shock and absolute awe, Peggy had saddled up to Steve Rogers. Steve was the guitarist of the Commandos, and he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying her company. Tony and Pepper were chatting with Clint and Sam the drummer and bassist of the Commandos, and Bruce Banner, your newly appointed second hand. James Barnes was nowhere to be seen.
“Well, well, good to see that most of you have arrived early!” You smirked walking to the head of the table with your big box of tour folders, Peter moving instantly to help you. “If I have not yet made your acquaintance, I am Kentucky, just Kentucky, you may call me Bluegrass or Lucky, but I will always prefer Kentucky. It has come to my immediate attention, that you sorry suckers were in need of a fantastic road manager, and here I am.” You survey the room as you spoke taking into account every face that you could see in the room and making sure everyone was following. “Now, where is James?”
————Some unnamed bar across town ————
Bucky’s head pounded. Wether it was from the booze or the pounding music he had no clue, but he could tell that it was far too early to be in this booth.
“You really went for it last night Barnes,” Bucky looks for the source of the voice to find that, Luke Cage, owner of the best bar in LA, was unloading boxes of tequila into his storage cabinets under the bar. “You shouldn’t have either, you’re late for your tour meeting.”
Bucky absorbed the information, and felt it melt out of his brain as if it were nothing more than an irritating ear worm. “How do you know about that?” He sighed running a hand down his face and slowly standing to grab his leather jacket.
“It’s sharpied onto your arm,” Luke chuckled pointing to Bucky’s right arm in just about the only clean space someone could fine. “Steve came in and did it last night before giving about a hundred dollars to let you sleep it off in that booth.”
“Of course he did,” Bucky scoffed, “the punk never knew when to leave well enough alone.” Bucky quickly slipped his sunglasses over his aching eyes, as he watched Luke slide a cup of coffee across the bar. “Goodbye Luke, your bar is the only thing I’m gonna miss about this town.”
“Goodbye Bucky, the free live music, and the fantastic tips are all I’m going to miss about you boys. I’ll tell Jess you said hello.” And with that final fond farewell, Bucky left Luke’s bar for the last time before he was trapped in a tour bus for six months.
The drive to Stark Records was as second nature to him as tying his shoes. He easily glided in between cars, making record time to his place of employment. He parked his bike next to a slot that occupied the sweetest little red corvette he’s seen in a good while. The tune in the reference catches his brain and he starts to whistle the chorus, wishing the artist formerly known as Prince was still around. He walked past Sharon, the desk clerk, giving her his customary wink and a smirk, stealing a sucker out of her candy dish and wandering into the meeting.
That’s when he saw her, the hottest piece of ass this side of the sunset strip. She looked powerful, she looked commanding, she was covered in tattoos and wearing the best looking little black number. She was saying his name. “Where is James?”
“Right here sweet thing, I hope I’m not too late to the party, I’d hate to miss anything that came out of that pretty little mouth.” Boy was it pretty, the full lips covered in a red shade that he could only seem to imagine smeared all over her moth as she panted his name.
“Ah, yes there he is. Hello, James. Just in time to-”
“James is my dad sugar, I’m sure we can think of something a little more clever for you to-”
“Alright then Junior if you don’t mind, I’m trying to conduct a meeting, and I will not be letting a drunken moron interupt my carefully planned work flow.”
Bucky’s jaw snapped shut as the people around him, some friends and some strangers, laughed at the clever lady’s little barb.
“Alright then, as I was saying, I’m here to help. I believe in the Peter Grant method of representation. The you-have-a-venue-you-want-it-filled-I-have-just-the-band-sixty-forty method.” She said, flipping her hair into a simple bun on the top of her head, which Bucky couldn’t find more attractive if he tried, “I have made hotel arrangements for every show, I have made bus arrangements, I have planned for added shows, and delayed dates. I have brought you the best opener I have, the best artists, roadies, security, and technicians I could scrape together, and most importantly, I have given you my time and my trust. I can make your touring life as easy and as simple as humanly possible, or I could ruin it. However, all I want is to get you out there, grinding again, reminding your fans the reason they love you. All you have to do, is let me work, and focus on the music. Can we do that?”
“Doll? I like the way you think.”
“Junior? It’s gonna be a long fucking six months.”

hii!! ive been wanting to get into the netflix marvel shows and i was wondering if you think i should watch them all or if you think there are some not worth watching or something
i think they’re generally pretty highly flawed but like. i am very critical of most things in the mcu so idk how reliable my answer is gonna be?? and regardless i’ve watched them all so clearly quality isn’t too important to me. i can give u my Thoughts n you can decide for urself
season 1 of daredevil is pretty solid???it’s good for growing matt’s character and there’s some classic legal action. season 2 is the elodie yung show. i have a weakness for season 2 because it introduced my girl, even if they did it badly. but objectively, it’s not a well written season at all. season 3 just carries on from that imo. the whole show just generally has blatant favourite characters and everyone else pays the price
jessica jones is theoretically really good like. the plot was good, the characters were good, the cast was good. but the execution was very lazy i feel n then season 2 was just... bad. season 1 is easy enough to enjoy there’s just a lot of questionable choices that were made by the creators
luke cage takes a while to get going but i think it has the most likeable lead and the best villains. great side characters, kind of a basic plot but i didn’t mind that??? idk i had a good time w that show
iron fist i would swerve entirely, that version of danny is just... not likeable. comics danny is also a dumb rich boy but he’s a loveable dumb rich boy n this danny just isn’t
defenders is a complicated one for me??? it has its moments and there is a slight charm to seeing them all together. there are really good team interactions and it’s probably the most. Fun of the shows??? the villains/plot/etc generally felt random as hell considering they have all the comics of all these characters to pull from and they chose to come up with their own backwards ass story. again, elodie yung is a dream n there’s some classic matt & elektra content
punisher i never watched but i did really enjoy jon berthnal’s punisher in daredevil, he did a great job imo and i heard a lot of good things about the show and ben barnes is hot so. there’s always that

TV Series I’ve Watched so far on Netflix, (Relatively) Spoiler Free Description
Dark + Well planned plot, no plot holes in sight, more and more makes sense when you rewatch. + Some of the best casting I’ve seen in a TV series. + Gets a third season soon that will complete the series. - May feel slow sometimes and have some scenes that seem filler-y, but the payoff is worth it. Score: 10/10 (so far)
Insatiable + A surprisingly deep examination into binge eating disorder and body dysmorphia covered up by camp, black comedy, and a plot that twists all over. + Subverts your expectations in the best ways possible. + Despite being a goddamn comedy show it actually has a great explanation of sexuality that other shows are lacking. - A character inconsistency in the second season affected my enjoyment negatively. I can’t say how much it might affect yours. - Ends on sort of a cliffhanger as the show was cancelled, but it works anyway and answers questions you had while watching the first season. Score: 8/10
Iron Fist - Awful Season 1. Absolutely horrendous. + While Season 1 is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on television, Season 2 tries its best to pick up the pieces and work with the mess Season 1 gave it. The second season brings some great acting, gets into the characters’ psyche and introduces a fascinating character that I’m sad we won’t get to see again. - Unfortunately ends on a cliffhanger as the show was cancelled. Season 1 Score: 1/10 Season 2 Score: 6/10
Jessica Jones + Good from start to finish. The show was cancelled but the ending is quite open, works as an ending but also works as the start of another season. + Well executed villain arcs and moral complexity, examination of heroism, what it means. +/- Close examination of sexism. My friend felt it was a tad too much. I thought it was a reasonable amount. Your mileage may vary on this issue. - Starts a little slow, the second half of each season is always the best. Although, in my opinion a good ending is more important than a good beginning. Score: 10/10
Pretty Little Liars + The drama, the mystery! You get hooked and excuse the terrible because you’re convinced it all pays off. - ... It doesn’t. Countless plot holes, timeline inconsistencies, a perfect example of how not to write a mystery. - A bizarre romanticization of statutory rape. + Janel Parrish is a great actress and nearly carried the whole show on her back. Score: 5/10
Sex Education + Some great characters that keep you watching. By that I’m not referring to the main ones. + Fun drama, albeit predictable at times. - Inconsistent characterization for some of the main characters. - Plenty of rushed character arcs and out-of-nowhere plotlines that appear to have been added for fan service. Characters discover things about themselves that have had no hints at all in previous episodes or even seasons. Score: 3/10
The Defenders NOTE: Watch Daredevil Season 1-2, Jessica Jones Season 1, Luke Cage Season 1, and Iron Fist Season 1 before watching this or nothing will make sense. + I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show before where I’ve been so happy to just rewatch scenes of characters talking. Screw the action, what was interesting was seeing the characters we had watched grow in their separate shows come together and play off each other’s personalities. + Makes a certain character that was insufferable in their own show one of the bright points of this series, a breath of fresh air that the others really needed. - Some of the villains are weak and motivations aren’t clear. - The flashing lights in early episodes are so annoying. Score: 7/10
The Witcher + Have you seen the main character? Hot. + Great actors. + Nice special effects, brings in many of the fantasy elements other more “realistic fantasy” series neglect. + Positive treatment of women without becoming too preachy. - One of the main characters’ plotline moves at the speed of a snail, but hopefully it pays off when the second season is released. Score: 9/10

Daryl’s deep love for the reader is very evident and as her memory slowly comes back she falls in love with him all over again. Ends in loving, sweet, smut.
Right Like That
Summary: I had to write this out. Early Season 2 era, at the farm, with Daryl’s old badass self. The reader constantly flirts with Daryl throughout the entire time they are together in the group, once they settle in to the farm, they are finally able to have a night they both have fantasized about, for so long. Smut AF. I needed a fic where Daryl takes a girl roughly in the barn. Enjoy! This turned out smuttier than expected.
Scars*
Summary: Daryl rescues the reader from walkers and he ends up taking her in, in Alexandria. They become very close, but remain just friends. Until, one day Daryl makes his intentions known for her. The start dating, but she has never seen his scars. Because of this, it keeps him from being fully intimate with her. One day he decides to open up to her and show her. Daryl tells her how he got them and they both break down. Daryl comforts her and she comforts him. Ends in them finally making love at the end. Lovey-Dovey Smut and pretty damn fluffy for my stuff.  Alexandra. Season 6 Era.
She’s Mine
Summary: Season 1 Era. Before the pilot and before Merle is left on the roof. Daryl and his brother Merle keep to the outskirts of the camp, Reader is interested in Daryl and starts to try and act friendly toward him, only to end up dealing with Merle constantly hitting on her and trying to grab on her. Daryl finally has enough and tells Merle off. Smut ensues. Daryl claims her.

He takes care of her, in more ways than one. Dom!Daryl Smut. Season 6 Era.

Jesus helps him escape and the two return to the hilltop where Daryl meets the reader. The reader helps nurse him back to health and eventually smut ensues. This one is really long, but I had to nurse Daryl back to health, figured it would be some time before he’d be up for any rough smut.

They fall in love over this time and at the end, end game smut and happy ending.

As the countdown of the US premiere of Sanditon ticks away ( January 12th in case you forgot😉) I’m reminded of the power of fandoms and what can be accomplished, especially in the wake of a show’s cancellation ( if you would like my thoughts on ITV’s decision to not proceed with a S2, I encourage you to read my previous blog) Sanditon is no exception to this.
Tumblr media
I must admit I didn’t truly understand what a fandom was until I married my husband 12 years ago and was introduced into the true world of Star Wars (queue the sound of a light saber starting up)
Tumblr media
Yes I had seen the movies and knew it had a huge following but this was truly different from anything I had experienced. Cosplay, collecting, clubs, and conventions- Oh My! Through various mediums these fans expressed their passionate thoughts and feelings about the originals, prequels, sequels. It truly was something to behold for me, as even though I had favorite movies growing up and could even quote some of them from start to finish( “What do you mean by breaking that slate over that boys head?” “He called me carrots!” “I don’t care what he called you, you had no right to loose your temper!” AOGG any one?🥰) I had never gone beyond owning the films and watching them over and over. There really wasn’t a way to find other fans of what I liked and interact with. It was the 80’s and 90’s after all. VHS any one?!
Tumblr media
The first time I had heard about what a fandom could potentially accomplish was with Firefly ( 2002) Now granted I had not watched the show when it first aired. My husband told me about the one series wonder and the networks decision to not proceed with any more seasons. So I gave the show a try and after watching it could see why fans were quite upset and passionate about the shows cancellation. It truly was a show ahead of its time. But alas, it was not appreciated by the network and met an early death. However, all was not lost. The fans spoke and protested loudly. They had the internet, but not social media like today, to broadcast their extreme displeasure. Their collective voices were heard and a movie ( Serenity 2005) was placed in production a few years later to finish out the story. And down till this day you can still find merchandise and collectibles honoring this unique, fun series. Skip forward to 2018. No, no, not Sanditon yet. Getting there. Another show had aired in the US. Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Again I had not watched the show. But you had to be living under a rock if you did not hear that Mark Hamill posted on Twitter his anger at having this show cancelled. Within 31 hours the network reversed their decision to end the show. Luke Skywalker became a real life hero to the fans, cast and crew!
Tumblr media
The show was saved and continues to air. Again the power of a fandom. Yes he is a celebrity but the rest of the fans and other celebs got behind him and as a united group they proved to be successful. Now let’s go forward another year.
2019. Jane Austen. Sanditon.
Tumblr media
Anyone who has seen Ep 8 can testify to having their heart yanked from their rib cage and stomped on while we watched Charlotte and Sidney say their goodbyes on the now famous cliffs and tearfully part ways. “Divided for now their love will endure” is what the official site told us. After the initial anger at AD died down and we went through the appropriate stages of grief(denial ,anger, bargaining ,depression and finally acceptance) the fans pulled themselves together and got to work💪🏼. Sanditon had created a fandom and like any true fandom love for the series, it’s characters, and creators began to shine though the dark haze of heartbreak and uncertainty. Gorgeous YouTube videos were created, retelling parts the story from a different perspectives(One of these vids has 100k views already and the show hasn’t even aired in the US yet! ) Others were inspired to write incredible fan fiction to finish the story and see our Sidlotte get their HEA. And yet others took pen to paper and created beautiful art of our beloved characters. All the while staying active on Twitter pleading with the network to renew Sandion. Well, we all know their decision on that. But would that silence us??
Tumblr media
It only served to renew our zeal. And so the Sanditon Sisterhood commenced stage 2. If ITV will not renew, another network surely could as Red Planet and PBS both want what we want. And essentially what Jane Austen would have wanted- Our happily ever after. But with the premier in the US happening the following month, we knew we had our work cut out for us. So we have stayed active on MasterpiecePBS social media, countering any negative comments about the cancellation and encouraging the US audience to watch in order to ensure viewing numbers stay strong. (BTW PBS is doing a masterful 😉job of promting this series and we couldn’t even more pleased with their marketing) This week a Twitter party was planned with set hashtags to get Sanditon trending. We were 12th in the UK 🥳. And that was just a practice run. More are planned and will be equally if not more successful. I have no doubt.
Tumblr media
But the question remains... will this fandom accomplish what others have? Will we get to see our story finished and Charlotte and Sidney get their Austen-like happily ever after? That remains to be seen. But one thing I do know- This fandom will never be silenced. We are tenacious. We are persistent. We are here to stay. And any network would be lucky to have us in their corner. For like any fandom, our love for Sanditon will not die upon the clifftops but will endure- no matter the cost. #renewsanditon
Update May 6, 2021
Sanditon has been renewed for another 2 seasons 🙌🏻
The power of fandoms 😉

Elegy for Jessica Jones
I am a big Marvel comics fan. Got in through the X-Men cartoon series. I related to Rogue's fear of someone touching her. I aspired to be as confident (and hyper verbal, in that cartoon) as Storm. It made her seem so in charge and not afraid to call attention to herself. "Meet me at the monorail!" is a thing I randomly say loudly sometimes.
Since the MCU era, we have only gotten a few lady heroes with the focus on them. Captain Marvel is obviously the biggest and soon we will have Black Widow too. But I am not like those two women. Carol is who I want to be when I grow up, of course. But I am still in my thirties and waiting for that to happen.
It has been in the Marvel TV shows that I have most seen myself. Peggy Carter, Daisy Johnson and, in particular: Jessica Jones.
I had read the Marvel Max comic about Jessica Jones and was greatly disturbed by the things she suffered at the hands of the Purple Man. And I was blown away by her relationship with Luke Cage, who not only accepted what happened to her but let her handle it and told her she was brave.
In (Catholic school) sex ed they talk a lot about women who are "used" and how we should save ourselves for our husbands. Jessica was violated by Kilgrave but her HUSBAND thought it was something to be proud of.
And I wept.
Then they made the Jessica Jones and Luke Cage series (plural) on Netflix and I was so excited to see them. One thing I didn't realize that would hit me so hard was that between the time I read the comics and the show coming out was that I was sexuality assaulted. I was diagnosed with PTSD years later.
There has never been a scene in a superhero movie or show than that moment when Jessica heard all the noise and is startles by the cop coming up to her. It was a small moment. Maybe some of you don't remember it. But that is kind of my life.
Yet she battled through it. She saved her sister. She was a superhero.
I know the Jessica Jones series was not perfect. I didn't love season 2. I know there were issues with race (I, in particular, wish Eka Darville as Malcolm got to do more because he was great).
But I still think this was an important show to have made. I think Luke Cage was as well, for different reasons.
I am sad to see the Marvel Netflix era end with a whimper. One of the reasons cited for Luke Cage's cancellation was that there were too few tweets about the second season compared to the first. That Netflix relies on social media engagement.
Netflix doesn't have rights anymore but I wanted to make this post, and I will be tweeting and JJ 3 as I watch. I encourage anyone else who was touched by these shows to do so as well, even just to say goodbye to your faves.
Goodbye Jessica Jonea.
Goodbye Like Cage.
Goodbye Matt Murdock.
Goodbye Danny Rand
Goodbye Frank Castle.
You will be missed (well, most of you). Thanks for Defending us.

With the shows finished, I'm curious what you think were the high and low points of each show/season (if any).
    Ooh, good question. I’d say:
Daredevil:
The first season was quite solid. I tend to be the pickiest about Daredevil, because Matt is my favorite superhero, and I did have a lot of complaints about the first season, but it was exciting and well-executed. The MCU version of Karen Page in particular was incredible. DD Season 1 Episode 10 (”Nelson v. Murdock”) is my favorite episode in any season of any of the shows, though Luke Cage Season 2 Episode 10 gave it some serious competition. Daredevil Season 2 was my favorite DD season, and switches off with Iron Fist season one for the status of my favorite Netflix MCU season overall. As a comics fan, it felt the most familiar to me and therefore the most fun, and Elektra was fantastic. The Hand were poorly developed, but in general, it was a high point. Season 3 was enjoyable but mostly a disappointment (it was basically a re-hashing of Season 1 plus pseudo-Bullseye. Maggie was the best part), which is why I was perfectly happy this show ended where it did: with a proper conclusion, and just as the quality was starting to deteriorate.
Jessica Jones:
Season 1 of Jessica Jones was brilliant; tightly-plotted, well-acted, and absolutely terrifying. The first episode is another of my absolute favorite episodes ever, and probably the strongest opening out of any of the shows. Since Jessica as a character was only introduced about twenty years ago, she has much less source material than the other characters, and so this show had to do more original thinking and content creation, which I think hurt it in the end. The second and third seasons, while perfectly solid, didn’t feel nearly as polished, though I absolutely adored Alisa and thought the revamping of Jessica’s backstory was really interesting. I also loved Trish’s character arc and the richness of her MCU-specific sibling relationship with Jessica, until it was torpedoed with what I considered some poorly-executed character development in Season 3.
Luke Cage:
Luke was given a personality make-over in the MCU, and I’m torn on how I feel about that, but I really enjoyed his show. It was bold and rich and utterly unique. I thought the pacing in Season 1 was wonkier than normal (most of the shows had pacing issues), but I still really enjoyed it. Its reinvention of most of the comics characters was masterfully done, in terms of both writing and acting, and Misty Knight in particular was perfect. And Season 2 was a masterpiece. Where the hell are all of the awards for Luke Cage Season 2? Where is the hype? Mariah Dillard is the best antagonist in the entire MCU, and you can quote me on that. The way this show wove together classic Power Man goodness with elements of real-world black culture and current events was really, really cool. And, as I mentioned… that Power Man and Iron Fist episode was magic. Everything a PMIF fan could have ever dreamed of.
Iron Fist:
Iron Fist Season 1 got off to a shaky start with an awkward first episode (which I discuss in-depth here) but it moved on from that to become either my favorite or second favorite (depending on my mood) season of all of the Marvel Netflix properties. It combined rapid-fire pacing with beautiful character moments, and its reversal of Danny’s revenge quest was, to me, the best engagement with the source material out of any of the shows. I am about to finish up my deep dive into this season over on my Iron Fist blog, if you want to see more specific gushing and shouting. Season 2 wasn’t quite as strong, which I partly blame on the derailment of Danny’s character arc in The Defenders, but I still mostly really enjoyed it. The brilliant variation on the source material continued with a further development of Danny and Davos’s dynamic (which is completely different than the comics version but managed to be my favorite MCU sibling relationship) and an awesome new version of Typhoid Mary (Dex wished he could be what Walker was). And then the writers had some kind of collective mental break-down in the final few episodes, which I’m not going to go into because I discussed it here and would rather not think about it again. Essentially, Danny and Colleen were disrespected, and I’m angry about it. The season was only saved by the final few minutes, with an exquisitely-wrapped gift to Iron Fist fans everywhere, which promised an incredible third season based on one of the best IF comics plotlines… which was then ripped away from us, and I’ve been mourning that loss ever since. But anyway. If I had to pick a favorite Marvel Netflix show, it would probably be Iron Fist. It’s my comfort show, and makes me happy in ways none of the other shows quite managed. Look how long this paragraph is. My love is (mostly) free-flowing. #SaveIronFist and all that.
The Punisher:
I should mention that while all of the other shows featured characters who I was big fans of already, I haven’t read that many Punisher comics, so I went into his show not quite as knowledgeable or invested. That said, I very much enjoyed both seasons of it. I thought the first season had a stronger plot and much more polished writing (this was true of pretty much every show, which is interesting). Jon Bernthal was a fantastic Frank, who perfectly embodied both the extreme violence and intense compassion inherent in the character. I loved his dynamic with Micro in Season 1 and with Amy in Season 2. And his alliance with Karen Page was a surprising deviation from the comics (616 Karen and Frank never even met, or had any reason to interact) that I found fascinating.
The Defenders:
I was surprised we only got one season of The Defenders, but I was also okay with it. A second season wasn’t necessary, especially since the characters started cameoing more frequently in each other’s shows after that. I really enjoyed The Defenders. The poor showrunner was forced to do a lot of reverse-engineering of the worldbuilding thanks to undeveloped hints in previous shows, which meant that the Hand plotline was a little bit clumsy, but the plot wasn’t important. The Defenders existed for the team-up, and the team-up was a lot of fun. Most importantly, we were treated to some beautiful Power Man and Iron Fist and Daughters of the Dragon goodness, which was all that really mattered. I also loved the dysfunctional family dynamic of the Hand leaders, which I was not expecting. In some ways, their bickering and back-stabbing was even more fun to watch than the protagonists’ antics. My biggest complaint was that Elektra and Danny’s character arcs were sabotaged, which was very disappointing.
Overall, I was really impressed by the high quality of all of the shows. They were pretty much everything I’d hoped for, and quite a few things I never knew I wanted. I feel really lucky.

I want to talk about Daredevil season 3, episode 4: ‘Blindsided.’
And no, not the incredible one-shot prison fight scene, what I want to discuss is the needle that goes into Matt’s hand immediately before the riot.
There are a couple of things here, that need to be looked at more closely.
1. The needle itself, and how it penetrates Matt’s hand.
2. Route of administration.
3. The contents of that syringe and the dose Matt receives.
So here we go.
1. The needle itself, and how it penetrates Matt’s hand.
In my experience, single use hypodermic needles are very, very sharp. They’re pretty easily blunted by such things as being inserted through the rubber bungs in multi-dose vials, or skin. My habit, as a vet, is to change the needle if I’ve drawn out of a couple of vials (because sometimes I administer drugs in combination), or if I think that the animal I’m about to inject will be particularly jumpy.
I treat a range of animals, including cows. Cows have thick hide (after all, we use it for leather) and a new, sharp needle is easy to insert quickly through skin and into the space underneath, with a little speed and force. It becomes much harder when the needle has been used a few times, which is one of the reasons I always use a new needle and strongly encourage my clients to do the same (bacterial contamination is another major reason, but that’s not what we’re discussing here.) The point being, that if I can tap a cow’s rump with the back of my hand a couple of times, then turn my hand over and drive a needle, held between my forefinger and thumb, in the skin up to the hub, it’s going to be easier to do the same in a human. I don’t think I’ve ever injected a human, but I’ve accidentally given myself needle sticks on occasion, and I’m comfortable in my assertion that humans have softer, thinner skin than cattle. Which is why this had me rolling my eyes.
Tumblr media
[I.D.: A screenshot from the show, with a syringe and needle centre frame, pointing to the lower left. The tip of the needle is pressing against the palm of Matt’s hand. The barrel of the syringe is filled with clear fluid.]
That's a long needle, and not a particularly large gauge. At a guess, it's 21Gx1". Now, the thing that puzzles me is that the needle is pressing against Matt's hand, and presumably penetrating the skin, but not passing right through his hand. Does he have kevlar pads on his palms, in case of this situation? Very unlikely, and his hands looked normal when he was talking to Michael. Is the needle extremely blunt? If I was planning to attack and dose someone with a sedative, I'd make sure to use a new needle. Has the needle hit the bone? Entirely possible. With the force applied by these two people at this point, I'd expect the needle to pass right through Matt's hand and out the other side, due to its length, unless it's hit bone. Matt's not Luke Cage, so he shouldn't be able to stop the needle going through his hand. It's a good length of needle to go into a thigh or arm or buttock, but not so great for a thinner mass of tissue. 2. Route of administration Generally, we inject either intradermally (within the skin), subcutaneously (SC, into the space between skin and muscle, intramuscularly (IM, into muscle) or intravascularly (IV, into the vein). These different routes are chosen based on product used, volume injected, reactivity, speed of onset and difficulty of administration. For example, if someone is severely dehydrated and needs a litre of fluid, you're going to go IV because you can't squirt a litre into muscle without causing severe damage and pain. You're also going to place a catheter first, because that's going to be easier to manage than a needle. When it comes to sedatives and anaesthetics, route of administration affects time to onset of effect, and sometimes duration of effect. Some things can only be given IV, and some can only be given SC, for safety/ reaction reasons. Morphine given IV works more rapidly than morphine given IM, which in turn is more rapid than morphine given SC. Sometimes when you're injecting IM you'll hit a blood vessel, which can speed up the onset of effect.
When you inject IM you're adding fluid to a space already occupied by muscle and blood, and usually enclosed by connective tissue. Muscles don't have a great capacity to expand, which is why you get that tight, pumped feeling when you're at the gym and you've been working hard. The size of the muscle you're going into affects the volume you can inject. The muscles in hands are small, and you can't get a lot in them. When the nurse attacks Matt he lifts his hand and strikes, aiming somewhere near Matt's face/ throat. I'm not entirely sure where he's aiming, but it makes for an angle that Matt can block fairly easily. If I was going to try to dose someone quickly with that volume, I'd probably go for their thigh, which is exactly what Matt does to an inmate a few minutes later.
Tumblr media
[I.D. a syringe and uncapped needle lying on a lino floor. The syringe contains clear fluid, and black volume markings can be seen on the barrel. There are some small drops of liquid on the floor by the needle.] The volume the syringe contains when it falls on the floor is approximately 7mL , and that's a 10mL syringe (you can see the volume written on the syringe in the first picture here). We don't know what it started off at, so Matt could have received up to 3mL. Assuming the needle has gone through the skin of Matt's palm (and he does later say that it has), but miraculously not straight through his hand, its tip has ended up either in muscle, under the skin, lodged in bone (owwww!) or in a tendon or tendon sheath (more owww). If it had gone into tendon, Matt would really struggle to do what he does during the rest of the scene, and would probably eventually be forced to seek medical treatment. Tendon injections are really terrible, ask me how I know. So, that aside, being injected into his hand is probably partly why he doesn't receive the full dose.
3. The contents of the syringe and the dose Matt receives. We know he gets something but we don't know how much or what it is. Whatever it is, it does take the edge off a bit, acts fairly quickly and lasts a little while. The full dose could be 10mL, but I suspect is closer to 8mL. If Matt's around 80kg, that's 1mL/10kg, and he got a 1/8 dose. I'm completely guessing here, because we don't know what he got. But it does affect him. He shows signs of feeling the effects before the clinic door opens, so it's fairly rapid. And when he gets in the cab, 11 minutes later, he does look like he's struggling a bit with consciousness. At that point it's still light, but when we see regain consciousness, about to go into the East River, it's dark. So it's had a relatively prolonged effect. Of course, he's probably physically exhausted as well and could just be plain sleeping by the end of it, which would go some way to explaining why he isn't still very groggy - anaesthetic effects always take a while to wear off and I think it would take a lot of awareness to escape an underwater vehicle.
Tumblr media
[I.D. Matt sitting in the back of a vehicle, dressed in a suit and tie with blood on his shirt. He's not wearing his glasses, and has a concerned expression on his face, and fresh bruising around his right eye. It's dark outside and street lights are visible through the windows.] I've got some theories around what could be in the syringe, probably in combination, but as I said above earlier I'm a vet and some of the things I'm used to using would kill a human. And I don't know that this is the place to talk about that, either. Anyway, that's my thoughts on that scene, which doesn't sit right to me when I watch it. It's a pretty small thing in a season which was overall fantastic.

Jessica Jones season 3 review
Back when Jessica Jones started, more than three years ago, it was all I heard about on social media. It was up there in my top tv shows. There was something about it which set it far above other superhero content. We were not just presented with a big bad who was a crime lord but given what was a very real metaphor for the abuse faced by women. The show was an examination of rape culture and mental illness, all while keeping up the action typical of the genre, and kept me gripped from episode to episode. I watched at least one season of every other Marvel Netflix series and none of them quite compared. Though they could be enjoyable at times, their storylines were all over the place, they were too long so that you could easily zone out, and their villains felt laughable.
I really hated season 2 of Jessica Jones. I remember very little of it but the villain was introduced so late and the stakes did not feel high enough. So I had no idea what I should think of Jessica Jones season 3 and as a result, I kept my standards fairly low. Where did it lie in comparison to its predecessors? Somewhere between the two. On the level of most of the other series. Enjoyable enough but not something that you feel such a compulsion to continue watching. Something that you will have forgotten within a week of watching. However, I did have a lot of thoughts about it.
Firstly there is the feminist message of it. This came very naturally to the first season given the subject matter. The first season exposed something that was real for many women and that genuinely felt like a horror story. Trying to continue in the same vein was what really ruined the initial villain of this season for me. The bad guy, Sallinger, quickly became a straw misogynist, defending himself by ranting about how the only reason Jess was after him was because he was a white man and she’s must hate him. Sure, some men actually think like this but it took away much of his depth and felt like it was trying to bash in a feminist subtext that would have been there without him.
Now onto the conflict between Jess and Trish. I found Trish to actually be the most sympathetic character of the season which was ironic since I strongly disliked her last season. Meanwhile, I started to become irritated with Jess. She became patronizing and unnecessarily rude to everyone (her attitude towards her secretary was particularly mean) and it seemed like the writers were trying very hard to make her ‘’’edgy’’’. Jess clearly suffers from PTSD and is an alcoholic and I would have liked to see her receive help with this but it isn’t even suggested. This might have been a plotline in later seasons if it hadn’t been cancelled but I really wish it had been addressed more earlier on. Season 1 definitely focused on Jess’s mental health much more.
We saw the message that we have seen again and again in the superhero genre: if you kill bad people that makes you just as bad as them. At this point, we’re all tired of it. So when Trish killed some abusive men including the man who murdered her mother, I fully understood her actions. Yet she was treated as the real villain of the season. It felt hypocritical of marvel. Have we forgotten that Jess murdered Kilgrave in season 1? Have we forgotten the Punisher’s entire characterization involves him killing bad guys and he just gets called an antihero and gets his own tv show?
Jeri is a very difficult character to form an opinion on. I found her a very interesting character in season one. Though she was morally grey, for the most part, she was on the good side and we saw her with a woman she loved a lot. We have to remember she was the very first MCU LGBT character and is the most prominent out of those in their Netflix shows so it is rather suspicious that their she happens to be a very corrupt, self-serving figure. I became very angry with what they did with her in season 2 as she started to fall into the disgusting trope of the predatory lesbian. In season 1, she was very in love with her assistant who was likewise in love with her but in season 2, we hear she is being accused of sexual harassment by her, leading to Jeri saying something along the lines of “what did she expect, wearing a skirt that short, she was asking for it.” So we’re having the only major lesbian character use widely recognized rape culture phrases? Cool. And naturally, her storyline in season 2 became about her dying. Because what else can you do with a lesbian character? In season 3, I began to enjoy her storyline again but she still remained an incredibly horrible person. She manipulated her ex-girlfriend whom she hadn’t seen in 25 years and whom she had cheated on into breaking up with her husband and ultimately ruined her life. It was meant to be justified by the fact that Kith’s husband turned out to actually be bad but Jeri didn’t know that in the first place. Kith deserved far better than Jeri.
Jessica Jones has always had a problem in its treatment of characters of colour, particularly women of colour. I’ll admit I didn’t notice it so much during the first season because I was a lot younger and not as aware of the tropes as I am now. This season did not break that pattern. The women of colour are never major antagonists but they tend to be minor characters who cause inconveniences to our white protagonist and whom we are meant to disagree with. In season 2, we had the bossy Latina ex-wife of Jess’s love interest. In this season, we had the two policewomen trying to arrest Jess for a crime they believe she committed, a Latina woman who called the police on Jess, a black TV presenter who disagreed with Jess and Malcolm’s girlfriend, Zaya, who despite being listed as a series regular had a very minor role. Of course, there were also the characters of Kith and of Gillian whom I have just discovered is played by a transgender actress which is a very big deal for Marvel. However, they still lacked a voice in the narrative.
I was upset with how mistreated Zaya was by the narrative. She was working for Jeri and Malcolm was keeping secrets from her so of course she did not know for certain who was innocent and who was guilty and she was just doing her job, yet we were meant to see her as being in the wrong. Malcolm was the sweetest character in season 1 and possibly my favourite and he continued that way in season 2. My opinion of him during season 2 did start to go down when he went to a gay club for the purpose of blackmailing a closeted man and then got angry when said man hit on him. In season 3, he was lying to his girlfriend and cheating on her with a white woman which exemplifies the mistreatment of women of colour as love interests, especially love interests to men of the same race as them.
TLDR: Things I liked: Most of Trish’s storyline, Kith (although she should have had more of a role), cameo from Luke Cage!
Things I disliked: Dismissal of Jess’s mental illness, Jeri, Malcolm, Erik was a boring character

No, Blade does NOT make the Marvel Netflix shows “non-canon”
Okay, where the fuck did this idea come from? It makes no logical sense whatsoever.
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, it goes back to San Diego Comic-Con 2019. One of the very last movies Marvel announced was a reboot of Blade, which (since they didn’t give a release date yet) will be part of Phase 5. Not only are they remaking Blade, they cast Mahershala Ali as the title character.
Why is that last part important, you ask? Mahershala Ali was previously on the Marvel Netflix series “Luke Cage”. On that show, he portrayed the villain Cornell Stokes AKA Cottonmouth in season 1 before his character was killed off halfway through.
Ever since this casting announcement, some people have started spouting this drivel that casting Ali as Blade is SOMEHOW going to “make the Netflix shows non-canon” or “proves that Marvel wants to scrap them” or some other poorly thought out nonsense claims like that. Yeah, those claims have as much evidence as snails have the potential of running at light speed capabilities.
Here’s the thing that the people claiming this “invalidates” the Marvel Netflix shows don’t understand: This is NOT an issue at all like they’re stupidly making it out to be. Reusing actors in the MCU never invalidated anything in the franchise before.
Let’s look at actors that Marvel has used for multiple MCU roles:
Alfre Woodard- Portrayed Mariah Stokes/Dillard in “Luke Cage” (the exact same show Ali worked on with Marvel before being cast as Blade), and also played minor character Miriam Sharpe in Civil War (the lady who blamed Stark and the Avengers for the death of her son in Sokovia). Woodard’s casting was done at Robert Downey Jr.’s suggestion and this was filmed prior to her being cast as Dillard on Luke Cage.
Matt Gerald- Portrayed a minor prisoner character known as White Power Dave in the 2014 Marvel One-Shot short film titled “All Hail The King”, the short film released after Iron Man 3 and the first to reveal the existence of the real Mandarin (whom we will meet in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in 2021). Marvel fans probably know him better for his portrayal of Melvin Potter/Gladiator in “Daredevil”.
Peter Mensah- His first Marvel role was that of a minor military character named General Joe Greller in “The Incredible Hulk” back in 2008. The most he did was introduce Thaddeus Ross (and, by extension, the audience) to Emil Blonsky early on in that film. In 2018, Mensah returned to Marvel again to portray Qovas, leader of the alien race known as the Remorath for season 5 of “Agents of SHIELD”.
Tony Curran- Portrayed Thor’s grandfather King Bor in the flashback scene at the start of “Thor: The Dark World” in which the Asgardians tried to destroy the Reality Stone/Aether. In season 2 of “Daredevil”, he played the Punisher villain Finn Cooley, the leader of the Kitchen Irish who got shot in the face by Frank by the end of the episode.
Kenneth Choi- We first saw him in “Captain America: The First Avenger” as Jim Morita, a member of the Howling Commandoes. In “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, Choi played Morita’s grandson, the high school principal.
Clark Gregg- Here’s an example of it happening to an actor who started playing a supporting character before ascending to a lead role. For several movies and then seasons 1-5 of “Agents of SHIELD”, Gregg has played Phil Coulson since 2008 until his character’s tragic death between seasons 5 and 6 for the TV series. In the new season, he is playing a new character who bears a great resemblance to Coulson and could end up becoming a new version of the guy by season’s end in order to keep him around for season 7 before the show ends after that point.
Gemma Chan portrays a Kree soldier named Minn-Erva in “Captain Marvel” and is set to play Sersi in “The Eternals”.
My point is that this is NOT the first time Marvel has had an actor play multiple different characters for them in the MCU. I suggest especially paying attention to that part in Gregg’s part about playing a supporting character before going on to play a lead role. Aside from playing two different characters in the same show in Gregg’s case as opposed to playing one character in a show and a different one in a movie in Ali’s case, that is a near-identical situation to the latter going on from playing a supporting character as Cottonmouth to playing a lead role as Blade. Nobody complained about those other actors playing multiple roles in different Marvel works, so why is it suddenly an issue now with Ali getting the role of Blade? Those other actors playing more than one role didn’t “invalidate” those respective shows or “make them non-canon” or whatever the fuck. So why would Ali as Blade have that effect when that never happened in those other cases? Come on now.

Dreamboy Fan theory (Part 1)
TW: mentions of physical abuse, animal abuse and depression
Quick intro! - So with the next episode being the season 1 finale, I thought it would be a good time to share my theory of what is going on at PepperHights. I wanted to share now before the finale comes around and totally proves me wrong but for once I oddly don’t mind. It also goes without saying it is just a fan-theory and it’s not meant to be taken too seriously. With that being said however, I do talk about the themes as tagged so be mindful whilst reading. One key note, going forward when I use “Dane” I will be referring to character Dane in the show. When talking about the real Dane, I will be referring to him as “Producer Dane” when talking about all things outside of the podcast.
Also, this is LONG! When I started this I was hoping for a post similar length to my transcription of the Instagram live. As I keep typing however I realise that to make this flow easier I have split this into two parts. Part 1 will talk about the general theme of “what’s going on” and my guess at how Season 1 will end. Part 2 will carry on with the key points that were mentioned before, but with focus on the characters and how it all links together along with their individual theory’s.
Dreamboy has been an amazing podcast from start to finish. From the music, Character Danes sex drive to the sheer horror which is woven in every episode, it is clear you can see why it was picked up but Night Vale Presents. However, after seven and a half episodes (and a holiday special) there is still a lot of mystery of “what” is going on in the show. As fans we know that there has been a build up to something big happening and with hints of Aliens, magic and the super natural taking place in most episodes. For me though, there seems to be one clear overriding theme that is taking place and that ISNT the idea of there being a giant fish, the fear of giant family corporations going to Jupiter and finding something, the dreams of death or even the sharing of dreams between two strangers.
It’s the horror that comes with mundane life and everyday people itself. For more clarity, I don’t think there is anything supernatural, Syfi or horror going on. Instead, I think this is a tale of people and the hardships of life and how it is perceived via tone which I am hoping to break down in this fan theory! Key themes here are things I have picked up though my own life experiences, what has been said on and off podcast, livestreams, and assumptions from what took place in the original off Broadway production/BTS episode and people who work on the podcast.
At the start of the podcast we are introduced to a morbid way of thinking with Dane’s idea of a supermarket is just one giant morgue of animals and dead plants. This creepy tone is continued throughout the whole story. It’s captivating, it’s engaging and its part of what makes the podcast great but there isn’t something that would count as a big “horror” or “bad guy”. Instead, it’s how Character Dane talks about the supermarket which makes it scary.
This use of Tone and description is used a lot to make us the listener gripped in the moment along with how we imagine and perceive what is being described to us, however, we havn’t yet seem to encounter one key thing which is actually “evidence” of something paranormal. Instead, a lot of what is happening can be put down as as the struggles of life and its affect on ones own personal mental health and personal life experiences that come with getting older as well as how we cope with the events around us. These can be seen in all our “main” characters Dane talks to such as Dane himself, Luke and Critch, all of whom I will talk about more in Part 2. (Note:  I don’t include Characters such as Carol and Dan in this as whilst our leads have spoken to them, unfortunately they don’t seem to have a big impact on the story outside of the episodes they are featured in.)
A good example however, of how Danes descriptions of characters and tone can be seen as “something supernatural is going on” is how we perceive Jennifer and the Non-Girl Scouts. When we first meet Jennifer, Dane describes her as a “child who looks like she has been raised by her grandparents”. She is also later described as a “girl scout” and is frequently referred to as a “child”/ “kid”. In a cultural context, when talking about girl scouts, being from England I associated them with our equivalent, who are ages from 7-10 and when she mentions that she and the other two had a “slumber party” it furthers this idea of a young girl. This tone/description sets us up to believe she is very young, which is even more jarring once she opens her mouth and speaks about complex issues such as feminism and equality in their complexity but sophisticated manor. All these Ideas, and Tone, leads us to think that she is “creepy” and “up to something big” in a supernatural sence. However in episode 7 our perception of how we view Jenifer changes.
In the episode Dane asks “what is she twelve?” to which she corrects him and tell us she is actually 13. This greatly surprised me when she told us this, and yet at the same time, for the first time made her human. At 13, we instantly gain between 3-7 years of life experience, meaning by now she is starting to form her own personality and ideology, which is something we expect from a teenager. A teenager talking about toxic masculinity is less jarring than a child talking about it. Whilst people would perceive her as a “child” still, there is a big difference in maturity level and complexity thinking, which means we no longer have a “creepy child girl scout” on our hands, but rather a “young teenager who is making their own choices though understanding social situations”. In this episode have a very human moment of a teenager asking for help as well as frustration break down when Dane won’t give her the keys as he “knows” they won’t open the door. I get the impression this is not easy to do for her,  and from the live stream we know she doesn’t like to be messed around. For the first time we have a very human moment where we see her struggles and vulnerability, rather than the creepy tone which has been set by Dane and his narrative.
So with the Idea set that we are dealing with real life instead of a big horror taking place, I would like to also address one of the key areas this applies to as well as what I believe is taking place. I would like to talk about Zoe the Zebra and what has actually happened.
For me personally, I believe that Zoe is already dead, but not for the reason you believe. Early on, in the first episode, we are told that Zoe is an old Zebra who is the Zoos start attraction. A bit of Basic googling shows us that in the wildlife, a zebra can realistically live for 10 years whilst in captivity they can live up to 40 years on record. If we assume that Zoe has never seen the wildlife and was bred in captivity, we can assume she was born into the Zoo around 1990 at the EARLIEST, meaning she’s a pretty old Zebra nearing 30 if Dreamboy is set in 2019. With the Zoo being popular but struggling for funds, and based off the other animals such as the monkey who needs to listen to opera to sleep, we can assume that Zoe did not have a suitable enclosure for her. An unsuitable environment along with being the “star” of the Zoo, it means she was also frequently surrounded by load noises, no enrichments/toys and could have been alone despite being a heard animal. These factors are all key contributors to animals developing some form of Stereotypical behaviour during her time at PepperHights.
(Quick definition break: Stereotypic behaviour is defined as a repetitive, invariant behaviour pattern with no obvious goal or function. Stereotypic behaviour is not seen in animals in the wild and is understood to be abnormal and is therefore a negative factor in conservation captive breeding. Common Stereotypical behaviour includes habits of repartition such as noise making, pacing in the same location and self-mutilation as a result of over grooming AKA not nice!).
Based on what I learned in my time working with animals, this behaviour can also lead to aggression when behaviour patterns are interrupted or the animal is dealing with something they are not familiar with (such as someone breaking into their cage late at night). This sadly what is likely lead to the death of Ian. Whilst in the story it has been said that Zoe’s fate is still to be decided via the judge later in the week, I  believe Zoe is actually already dead due to Zoo’s protocol’s that occur in these situations. It is very common when there is an active risk of the safety of the members of public in regards to wild animals, whether they have activity hurt a member of public or not, is too shoot the animal dead on the scene.
I have seen this happen when animals have killed members of staff in Zoo’s, to just lynx’s escaping from enclosures and going into the country side with no interactions with the public at all. If we are to assume that the person who reported Ian’s death also knew the Zoo’s procedures, we can assume that Zoe, who in in a scare fit killed Ian on accident, was shot on the scene to prevent anyone else being harmed. It is also worth noting that currently we do not know if we have seen Zoe since the incident, only that we have heard her cries which could have easily been recorded and played over the speaker system. It is also easy to believe as since Critch has requested no one to be present at her death, Zoe is already dead but Critch wishes to hide that so that people still visits the Zoo to see Zoe one last time before she goes as so many people love’s her. As well as this, it would also explain why there is such a big push for the lost ocean, as their main attraction is already dead.
Going back to the original discussion of theme, This idea of an animal who is kept in a poor enclosure, driven crazy by the noise and consistent lack of respect to then only be added on with her death on the scene is obvious a lot more realistic than the “murderous Zebra” or even the “drag Queen Zebra” which is frequently used to describe the situation. Its sadness of the situation, from an animal never being kept in its natural environment which lead to a young persons death, to the fact that there is no formal closure for this animals death, which leads to the finale being less of a supernatural horror to more of a real life situation which we as society become numb to as we exist day to day.
---
For now, this is all I have for part 1. The idea of nothing supernatural going on is something which seems to be something which is only slightly touched on with the “plot” of Dreamboy. In Part 2, the idea of personal hardships, challenges and how these can link to a more telling story is what I am hoping to cover as well as my own personal theories.
Will hopefully get part 2 up within the next couple of days but till then stay groovy!
