Playing around with Alastor’s design a little bit. He would still wear most of the same outfit he wore back then, don't fix what's not broken, but with an added suit jacket that's a bit too big for him. I need to make a bit of to at some point, but after his break up he draws on a pencil mustache to add on to his emphasis of having a new appearance while still staying in his time.
A post depression mustache if you will.
As for some of his creepy aspects I'm cutting out the voodoo elements of his character, and instead using the uncanny and analog horror elements instead (I am a simple creature).
I need to actually remake the color pallets for him and old Vox, but essentially they both start off as black and white or with grey like colors, and gain new ones after they split up. Vox becomes more saturated and Alastor becomes sepiatone, as while it's more colorful it's still is reminiscent of the past.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now time for some of the silly rivalry bits:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d image they would have casual debates on the radio and tv that would soon devolve into insults and eventually nothing but 30/50s slang and Creole French that would last for hours.
I need to finish writing this bit, but basically Charlie sees it as a good idea to go on Vox’s talk show to promote the hotel and herself. There’s some lil rivalry moments between Vox and Al, but ultimately Vox doesn’t fully let his grudges get in the way of hosting a good show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though they mutually broke up they still each regret ending the relationship, and as such covey their loneliness in their respective mediums. Vox making sad, gay movies and being so worn out after that when he watches them he doesn’t even know what he made.
And Alastor having a late night audio story about a turtle and a hare going on adventures. There are times where he’ll just start describing crushing regret and isolation, and he’ll realize that he may have gone a bit far and try to steer it towards more of a happy ending with Vox listening in on all of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something something relationship meme with a sketch I’ll probably never finish. Also surprising, but also not that surprising, to me that in "Stayed Gone" they didn't go with the obvious joke on what to call his late night talk show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The grrls r fighting!! But for real this time.
Tumblr media
Been playing with the idea of Vox turning into pure energy when he's overly stressed, or just becoming a weird robot creature as form he can take as an overlord. It's probably going to result in a lot of sketches where I 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 won't use Videodrome as inspiration (lie).
At some point I need to get a good animation program and just start making a bunch of animatics or animations cause I have so many song inspirations for these two.
Specifically one that I want to make a whole animation for is “(They Long to Be) Close to You.” Basically it’s just going to be them fighting interspersed with moments of them waltzing together. I think you can probably parse out the metaphors and connections I'm going for here.
youtube
Also me and a friend were talking about song inspirations and after I continually listened, watched, and worked (at least for me) on Hadestown we just replaced Hades with Vox in some of the songs.
🚨SPOILERS FOR HADESTOWN🚨
One stanza that I need to make an animatic for is in Chant Reprise, specifically 2:33-3:18 with the “I conduct the electric city” line.
youtube
This is going to become a bit of promotion for the show cause I love it so much. Probably my favorite musical ever! Also highly recommend listening to this version of "Chant," cause there’s a verse for Persephone and Eurydice that provide some cool reflections that reflect the original “Chant” in their verses.
youtube
There’s no direct references to any of the other characters, although you can add your own interpretations.
On that note here’s another song that reflects them. “How Long?” mainly with the “your pity won’t fit in my bed” lines, and when Hades and Persephone are actually singing to each other turning it into being about their relationship instead of the fates of Orpheus and Eurydice.
youtube
And a lil teaser for how they make up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will make another post about them. I have so many sketches WWHYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T ESCAPE EITHER VERSION!!!!

Cole
He listens to everything

His Spotify wrapped is hectic
Yk in Episode 1 Season 1 of Lab Rats when Adam says he listens to Taylor Swift bc she's soothing
Yea, Cole has the same reason
(Musular himbos🤝liking Taylor Swift)

At this point this is barely more than a doodle but, alive!Ember headcanons
I hc that she had lots of curly blonde Disney princess hair and big brown eyes and she absolutely hated both of these traits. Her aesthetic would have been somewhere between goth and like, proto-grunge. She's not a fire-themed ghost because she died in a fire, though she did, she's a fire-themed ghost because her other hobby besides music was arson. I imagine her being in high school in the very late 70s to early 80s - she would have died when Jack and Maddie were in undergrad - because that's when Siouxsie and the Banshees were big and her eyeliner is very Siouxsie imo. I also hc that Ann Wilson of Heart was her bi awakening.
My Ember is very, very auDHD. Her special interest is music, but like me she has "hyperfixate on ALL the things!" disease so she's not just into the playing and listening to music, she's also a huge geek about the audio tech side of things, and music history, and she can't be left alone with an instrument or she will try to play it even if she doesn't know how, and she's probably experimented with building her own instruments and recording gear. With her sensory differences, she can hear all sorts of shit that nobody else hears, and depending on the fic I do take this in a supernatural direction; sometimes she hears ghosts and shit even before she becomes a ghost herself.
So we've got a socially awkward child who hears things other kids can't hear and likes to set things on fire because it looks pretty and the crackling sound is a good stim. In the late 70s and early 80s. AKA... right when the Satanic Panic kicks off! I hc that she grew up in one of those judgemental small towns where everybody is all up in everybody's business, and about 60% of the other people in her town were convinced that either A) she was possessed by a demon, B) she straight up was a demon, or C) she was gonna be a serial killer when she grew up.
Enter Ember's biggest defender, her mom, the weirdest church lady. Mama McLain is inspired by two things: my own family history of southern folk magic, and the line in Hadestown that says "you might say [Orpheus] was touched... because he was touched by the gods themselves!". Mama McLain acknowledges that her daughter is a bit touched in the head, but she insists she's touched in the head by God/Jesus/Saint Gabriel, so mind your own biscuits. This is the kind of woman who whips out a dowsing rod when the neighbors need to build a new well, so she never blinked an eye about Ember claiming to be able to hear the trees growing if she held her breath, and if she's still alive she's perfectly aware that Ember is a ghost and keeps in touch with her accordingly. My mental image of Ember's dad is less firm, I imagine he's a long-haul truck driver and also very, very autistic (hence why being alone on the road so much doesn't make him crazy), so he thinks his daughter's eccentricities are Just Fine, Thank You. Father-Daughter Bonding Time consisted of Papa McLain tinkering on his truck while Ember tinkered with her record player and neither of them spoke to each other.
I know that ghost!Ember canonically has green eyes, but for some reason whenever I draw her I want to give her lavender eyes, so I did.

Listening to Hadestown while drawing Crowley has turned out to be a bit of a bad idea. I keep getting stuck on "Promises," and thinking about Crowley rescuing Aziraphale from Heaven.
"It's a long road. It's a long walk back into the cold and dark. Are you sure you want to go?"
"Take me home."

I was wondering what bands you liked? And out of them, which one inspires you to write music the most?
This is such a cool question to be asked, thank you! These actually feel like two pretty separate questions to me. The first one is too jumbled to answer in a Tumblr post and I don't have brain right now, but I'll try?
My first real music love was Evanescence. I was obsessed. The sheer fucking primal emotion in their music combined with Lee's aesthetic & the cinematic feel of it all was catnippp to me. My second love was Coheed & Cambria (I was in a cover band in high school), for similar reasons + they were my first exposure to concept albums. Anyone who hasn't listened to their first 3 albums *needs* to. The Dear Hunter was also an early love of mine. Their frontman (and Tanner Merritt of O'Brother, look up their first Audiotree session and sink innnn) are my vocal inspirations. Shout-outs to Panic!'s first two albums, 2000s emo in general, and especially MCR (confirming here that Helena & Gerard is an MCR reference). I was also in a Mars Volta cover band in college, which was how I started getting any kind of decent at the instrument.
More recently (in addition to frequent visits to my old favorites) I have been loving PUP, The Hotelier, Sarah & the Safeword (you all would *love* them), The Oh Hellos, Freelance Whales first album, Hozier (oh god Hozier), Typhoon, Jank (first album) O'Brother (first two albums), San Fermin, The Suitcase Junket, Devil & the Deep Blue Sea, Raccoon Tour, As Tall as Lions, Island of Misfit Toys, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Foxing, and Foxy Shazam (put on their self titled album for a fuckin' excellent time). The original Hadestown album also had a huge impact on me.
Who inspires me to write is a different question, because actually most of the songs I've written for Forgetmenauts all have specific feels of different artists that I intentionally wanted to incorporate. Imma go through the discography in order and see if I can pinpoint an inspiration for all the songs. Some are *really* specific, others just have a general feel.
Bestiary:
Leviathan- The Dear Hunter (specifically the song We've Got a Score to Settle)
Sirens- The Dear Hunter
Helena & Gerard- Freelance Whales' first album, or The Oh Hellos, maybe?
Tam Lin- Hozier
Charlatan in Red/Vixen's- mewithoutYou ("It's all crazy..." era)
Interlace of Bones- No idea. The banjo ones are honestly a lot harder to pinpoint.
GWMB- I blacked out while writing this song. I think that one came from somewhere special just for me. I got really, really lucky with that one.
Bats- I was just goofing around lol. Pick a punk band, any punk band.
Be Nimble, Be Quick
Jack- Guitar riff at the beginning is Explosions in the Sky. Lyrics, guitar etc. in the second part are The Dear Hunter x Hadestown
Card Shark- Tyler wrote the music on this one! My vocals are 100% The Dear Hunter tho
The Summer King- mewithoutYou, extremely intentionally
Bigfoot & Mothman- Foxy Shazam, baybee!!!
Persephone- O'Brother (Death of the Day era)
Dancing Plague- Thrice, I think
Wind in the Orchard- O'Brother again, I think
Thomas the Rhymer- 100% I was trying to write a Hozier guitar riff again. The screams at the end are Coheed & Cambria, a la Everything Evil
Faerie Queen- I was trying to write a Tiny Moving Parts riff. The vocals & melody feel pretty original to my own style, tho.
Truth be Told- Kit did all the lyrics & melody on this one. Guitar Moving Mountains (Pneuma era)
Ocean Song- Emma wrote this one! I had no input.
Unreleased (but in rotation):
Cottonwood- This one I really felt like I was drawing on the style that I've been cultivating over the course of this FMNs project.
Rusalka- I was trying to write a Typhoon song. Their album White Lighter is one of the few *perfect* works of art that I know of.
Persephone: I wrote this one back in college, actually, for a concept album I was working on at the time that never got finished. Some Hadestown in it, for sure, otherwise I couldn't tell ya.
--
This is the sort of question I always fantasized about getting asked back when I was first starting to write music in high school, it's really cool to have someone who only knows me from my work honestly interested in it. I love answer things like this, thank you so much again for asking! Hope it's a thorough enough answer, and I'm happy to elaborate on any, or hear what influences or echoes you hear in any of our songs.
Big love <3

Next on the agenda: i actually finished listening to all the song recs ages ago and kept forgetting to make a post about it but i DID LISTEN TO EVERYTHING (under cut because its longer)
My favorite in general was butterfly by swingrowers ive been making everyone at work listen to it (that was recced by @trinity-blaze i believe). I love electroswing but i dont really explore the genre much despite that for some reason, even though i started listening to it in middle school
I received two playlists, the first one by @sparrowsarus and can be listened to here via spotfiy. My favorite on that actually was beach house by my girl carly rae jepsen, and also i really liked girlfriend by billie piper. I had no idea she was a musician. Whoops. Overall there was a lot of 90s pop on there which was super fun
The second playlist was from @tamlins-stories-and-poems and im actually not a filk fan really, my favorite was definitely lil nas x singing jolene which i REALLY wish was longer, but theres some fan songs on there that i think really were highlights in regards to fan made music. Turn it down by or3o for example i think really fit encantos general music style and was well performed, which is especially hard to do for a very established musical to begin with. The power of fans! I think playlist wise it was well put together to show geek music, i did actually send it to friends to explain what filk is because it turns out none of my friends has ever heard the term filk before. Which is very surreal to me
Lastly i got recommended three songs from the hadestown soundtrack from @carmineskies67 and i wasnt really into it but musical wise i can absolutely understand for sure. For me the biggest standout was why we build the wall, because i found the influence it takes in uhhh i cant remember the name of the genre i am thinking of!! Blues? Gospel? Both? Really interesting and well executed. It was the standout song for me personally
Thank you for all the recommendations!! I was gonna make this sooner but i got overwhelmed with theme week drawings and then i could only type one handed for a while and making a long post got hard. Im still always up for music recs even if itll take me a few centuries to tell you whether i like them lol

So I'm Writing a (Somewhat) MCU-Compliant Loki/Sigyn Fanfic
And it's possible that by the time this post goes up, I will have completed and published the fic. (I'm really hoping this does not cause me to procrastinate.) I desperately want to talk about it, but I also don't want to risk talking about stuff that ends up getting cut when I revise, and like I said, the more I draw attention to it publicly, to more my brain historically likes to shy away from actually finishing it.
So instead I'm both queueing this for hopefully a date after it's already been published or close to publication, and instead of talking about it, I'm going to post my playlist for it. This is pretty strictly fic vibes, so it's not necessarily 100% relevant to the plot and many songs likely don't sync up to the more widely fandom-accepted headcanons for the ship.
Sleeping Sickness, by City and Colour: This is the song I was listening to when I conceived of the fic idea (which is pretty incredible, because I haven't been able to listen to City and Colour for like a decade, so I usually skip it when it comes on. (Bad break-up+inability to remember which C&C song really fucks me up = 10 years of skipping all C&C songs.) I was distracted by Loki/Sigyn posts and let the song play.) So the working plan is the fic title is going to come from one of the lyrics, but I haven't decided which lyric yet.
Forget Me Not, by The Civil Wars
Devil In Your Eye, by Mumford & Sons
Wait for Me, from Hadestown
Cherry Wine, by Hozier
Work Song, by Hozier
Stuck, by Imagine Dragons
Would That I, by Hozier
Let Me Dream a While, by Passenger
And I Love Her, by Passenger
All the Stars, by The Wailin' Jennys
That's all the songs I have on the playlist so far. Have fun trying to guess the fic plot from these songs, I guess? Some hints (unless I edit these out, I suppose), if you want them, because I can't help myself:
Current progression of the fic begins just after Thor: The Dark World and ends roughly after Thor: Love and Thunder.
Odin is probably at his worst in this, out of all my portrayals of him.
Loki the tv show does not come into play, but the fic closes a plot hole I've noticed around Loki's abilities in Loki versus Ragnarok.

*knocks on door* ITSSSSSSSSSS ME. Match a musical to a member of the Drew Crew
hi erin!!! i miss you! i hope you're doing well! oh, this is such a fun question, okay, let's do this!
nancy - the mad ones; the mad ones is all about grief and handling that grief and how do you "move on" when you lose someone who is a huge part of your life, and i feel like it would really help nancy. especially since in the mad ones, the protagonist, sam, experiences this loss as she's about to graduate high school, so nancy would really understand what she was going through and i think it would be cathartic for her. additionally, the music is just so wonderful (i've been in love with this show for like 10+ years since it was in development lol and i need everyone to listen to it)
bess - my first instinct is to say that bess is a mamma mia and & juliet girlie. i think she loves jukebox musicals! she wants something that is going to make her happy, but also tug on her heartstrings. she'd also like anatasia a lot -- the searching for family plot would draw her in, and i think anya finding not only her birth family, but a new family in dimitry and vlad would mean a lot to her.
george - i feel like george would love we are the tigers. it's funny, gritty, a little dark and filled with lots of interesting female characters and dynamics. i also think george would just get a kick out musicals with murder? so, she'd probably like sweeney todd and little shop of horrors as well. oh! i also think that she would be really interested in next to normal, especially because of the dynamic between diana and natalie and she'd probably find some similarities to her relationship with victoria
ace - okay the first one that came to mind was hairspray, but that's just because of his hair dfkjbsagklbslgkhbsa. i actually do this that ace would really love hadestown. i think the music style would interest him since there are a few different styles mixed into it, but it does have a folky feel, and while we know ace likes rock music, i do think that he likes folk as well (i think he has wide musical tastes). i also feel like he would already know the myth of orpehus and eurydice, as well as hades and persephone, and just greek mythology in general, so he'd probably be pretty interested in it. plus, if we're being totally honest, after the curse, i think he would see some similarities between his and nancy's relationship and orpheus and eurydice, but he gets his girl in the end.
nick - newsies. i think it only makes sense after we see him getting into hb politics in s4. i think he'd probably have watched the movie when he was a kid (i get the vibe that millie is a musical lady and probably raised nick on a healthy dose of musicals), so when the musical opened on broadway he checked out the obc and really liked it and just...found himself listening to it a lot and suddenly he had the whole thing memorized. i also like to think about nick and bess talking about newsies fsdhbflkdsbgkdlsha
ahhhhh this was SO fun! thank you, erin!
