Steve Rogers x You (Reader), no use of Y/N
Alternate Universe - Musician AU
Summary: Steve is about to be late for his recording. Luckily, you're there to drag him out of his bed.
Warning: Fluff, pouty man-child Steve (yes that's a warning), BAMF Reader, excessive swearing
A/N: A contribution to the Week Four Slumberparty @the-slumberparty. Thank you @rogerswifesblog for helping me with the plot <3 (kith kith kith)
Tumblr media
With the loud noise of yanking his curtains, Steve was brought back to the real world. From his sleep.
He simply rolled over, covering his face with pillows, not even caring a single bit that the sunshine burned his bare skin after someone popped the window open.
"Get the fuck up, you need to be there in the studio in fifteen, that's five minutes to dress and ten minutes en route." Someone conveniently pulled his covers off too, throwing his pillow, the one he was pressing to his ears, to the other side of the bed, having him exposed in the crisp April air. “Jesus, you reek of beer.” “Someone” muttered.
Steve made some noises in an attempt to cover his eyes with his arm, but that “someone” shook his body.
“Wake up, Steve!”
“But it’s earlyyy-” He whined, reluctantly squeezing an eye open, scrunching his face together for that effort, “what time is it?”
“Seven forty-five.” You checked your watch, “forty-six. I suggest you get up right this moment and still have four minutes to get dressed. And I'm hauling your ass out in four minutes, whether you have your pants on or not.”
His eyes snapped open. Those particularly cute sapphire eyes widened in panic.
Oh no.
OH NO!
NOT YOU!
The reality kicked in. You, his manager, his agent, his second-hand woman, whatever he calls you, were here to wake him up.
NONONONONONO.
He had been assigned to you for three years, and he knew what would happen if you don’t get what you wanted.
Or worse, when he was the cause.
“Three minutes and fifty seconds.” You reminded him, opening his wardrobe and starting to pick outfits for him.
OHNO!!!
“YES MA’AM!”
He scrambled out of bed in a blink of an eye, dashing to the bathroom, brushing his teeth and splashing water on his face. He didn’t care about his nudity, or his modesty, wearing only a pair of boxer briefs, as you had seen numerous times before.
When he was out of his bathroom, you had already selected his outfit today: black T-shirt and jeans. They were lying on his unmade bed. You, on the other hand, took the chance to open all the windows of his apartment to clear out the smell of beer and … well, a grown man’s sweat overnight.
You handed him a bottle of bubbly water under your arm – it always helped with his headache after a night’s lack of sleep, plus the alcohol – and cursed in your brain because the cool bottle left a small patch of water between your elbow and your waist on your beige suit jacket. You had a meeting at nine, which meant you hope it wouldn’t stain.
He was jumping on the bedroom floor, trying to get his leg through the jeans, after gulping down almost half a bottle.
And a long burp came out.
Which nearly had him fallen off balance.
That’s what you get when you mix a bottle of bubbly with a jumping man-child. It’s like shaking the coke bottle after putting in a whole tube of mentos.
Scratch that “man” comment. He’s such a child sometimes.
At exactly one minute and six seconds to the countdown, he finally made himself presentable. His blonde hair still unkept, sure, but nothing a baseball cap wouldn’t solve.
You didn’t want some paparazzi waiting in front of his apartment building and catching his messy hair on camera. Again.
Though you doubt they still had any interest in him.
You headed out of his apartment after him, not forgetting to take his keys - which he conveniently forgot on the coffee table, buried under sheets of music, again - for him, before shutting the door.
“Ohhhh burger!” Steve picked up a packed bag from his seat, having a large, satisfactory bite before putting on a pouty face for you, who sat next to him, “it hath biffles.” He said while munching reluctantly, as the car started to drive onto the main road to the studio.
“That’s my breakfast. I like pickles, thank you very much.” You pointed it out, “yours is with Maggie, she bought you something to eat on her way to the studio. And don’t talk while you’re eating, you could’ve choked.”
Maggie, the assistant you hired for Steve two years ago, could manage almost everything.
Except waking Steve up.
That’s why with an early booking for the album recording, you showed up to hassle his ass instead of the more early-riser Maggie.
“I don’t like pickles,” Steve whined. Yet he took another bite, pushing the pickle slices out of his mouth to spit in the wrapping paper when he thought you were not looking.
“Then don’t take my breakfast?!” You roll your eyes, “make your own.”
“… I’ve slept over…”
“Just eat.”
“Yes whaam... ma’am.”
Still talking with food in his mouth.
Now you’ll go to your nine o’clock meeting with an empty stomach, thanks to Steve.
“Your 2 pm shooting got canceled. There has been a mix-up at the site, we’re going there tomorrow at 8 to finish the last couple of shots for your new album.” You pulled up his schedule, talking to him, hoping he’ll remember the rest of his day, “you have four hours in the studio. I’m not asking you to finish recording all those songs but I’m gonna have your top three demos to present to my boss, and that’s the bottom line for today. No out-of-the-blue insta stories, unless approved by Maggie or me, but you can take selfies, or ask Maggie to take a couple of pictures, just in case we might need them later, understood?”
He nods frantically, with two chicken nuggets stuffing his mouth full.
“The afternoon, go hang out with your buddies, or go to the gym, or play video games, I don’t care. No twitter. No Instagram. Maggie will be there with you to make sure you don’t say anything on twitter. If you want to twitter about politics, ask Maggie for a spare account.” You cleared your throat, “there’s a live session arranged on Youtube at seven pm, go talk to your fans, sing some songs from your previous albums – no disclosing your new album!” You stared at him to make your point clear, “more importantly, don’t answer the questions you don’t like. If the fans asked about your family, I don’t give a shit, don’t answer that. Don’t answer any bizarre questions, they might be some sneaky reporters behind those accounts trying to get a comment or something. Maggie will tell you about the details, but that’s all for today.”
The car pulled up in front of the studio. You got out of the car, holding your hand onto the car door because you were going to be late.
“Are you not going to be with me during the live session?” He got out of the car too, pursed his lips into a small pout, the pink plump lips complimenting his blue eyes, having you take a deep breath.
“I’ll try. I have a meeting at 6.30, and I probably couldn’t make it.”
“Please? Pretty please?” He whined, “you know I’ll behave better when you are around.”
You laughed, handing him his water bottle, “behave, Steve. I’m going to be late.”
“Not the slightest chance?”
“You’re going to be late too!”
“Maybe a goodbye kiss?” He asked hopefully.
“I’m going to kick your ass if Maggie doesn’t see you in thirty seconds.”
Steve made a face, acting like he was actually scared of you.
“Twenty-nine.” You started texting Maggie, who was waiting in the studio already.
“Yes ma’am. Love you miss you see you bye!” He gave a funny salute, before dashing off at lightning speed.

Challenge: 100 Hours of Writing
That sounds like a lot, doesn't it? Writing for an hour or two can be exhausting. Imagine doing it for 100 hours.
Nobody can write for four days straight. That'd be insane.
The great thing about writing is that you can spread it over as long a period as you want. In fact, if you write for about two hours per week, you will hit the 100-hour milestone in a year. That is
17 minutes every day,
or 24 minutes every working day,
or 30 minutes every other day,
or two 1-hour sessions,
or one intense 2-hour session every week.
That sounds doable, right? You can also mix and match. Write a bit every day, then take a break and do a long writing session on Saturday night. As long as you stay consistent and write for at least two hours every week, you'll be on your way to 100 hours.
What Can You Do in 100 Hours?
Aside from earning this award (if you use Writing Analytics), 100 hours is enough to finish a draft of a novel.
Tumblr media
If you can write about 800 per hour or 1,600 words per week on average, you will write 80,000 words in a year. That is
230 words every day,
or 320 words every working day,
or 400 words every other day,
or 800 words twice weekly,
or 1,600 words once a week.
Again, you can mix and match. Do something else every week. Get to 1,600 every week, and you will reach your goal.
Keep in mind that these numbers are on the conservative side. I consider myself a slow writer, and I write faster than that. Some people can blaze through 1,600 words in 30 minutes.
The Challenge
This week, I want to challenge you to see if you can fit two hours of writing into your weekly schedule. It doesn't matter if you power through the whole thing at once or write for 17 minutes every day.
Here's the important part: If you can write for two hours per week, you have what it takes to finish a book.
If you'd like to write along with us, join the challenge in Writing Analytics:

The app tracks your writing time and lets you set time goals, which makes this super easy.

Cynical Sunday 7/23/23: A Romance Trend Challenge
There seems to be a trend in the tradpub romance space where the central romance is trying for an opposites attract/enemies to lovers deal but in giving the guy lead an opposite role to the lady lead, they make the guy's role like hilariously awful which makes the lady lead's road to falling for him ludicrous just from the description. Ones like this:
Liv runs her family orphanage after losing her family in a hot air balloon accident. Then she meets Blake, the infamous serial orphan baby puncher. She’s appalled by his existence, but he’s just so hot and their chemistry is really cool. Then she learns Blake was also responsible for her parents’ hot air balloon accident. But he’s SO hot. What can she do?
So the Cynical Sunday Challenge this week is to make your own romance synopsis or blurb with one lead's occupation being at hilariously vast moral odds with the other's. A few more examples!
Belle is a studious wildlife photographer raising money for her favorite endangered species of bird when she meets Tyler, a ravenous bird poacher. Can she truly ignore the monstrous deeds Tyler committed to her favorite endangered bird species, or should she listen to her heart in dating the man who makes the wings of her heart soar?
Michelle is an actor on strike. A movie studio ruins her latest protest, and she wants answers as to why. Then she meets the man behind it all: Hunter Miller, a young up and coming movie exec who Michelle can't deny makes her knees weak. As she gets to know Hunter, Michelle has to decide between her career, or her new true passion...
Think you can come up with your own? Reblog or tag us! Feel free to get creative with your pairings, the examples are moral woman lead + monstrous male lead because those seem to be the most common but have fun with this!

Short Fiction Weekly Challenge
Time for a new prompt from the Short Fiction Weekly Challenge, tumblr edition.  Let it spark your imagination.  Any character, any fandom, any original world.   Reblogs welcome!
Post your story to your blog and send the link to Short Fiction Weekly Challenge!  The link will appear in our feed and the site index, and your blog will be listed on the Participating Blogs page.
This week’s SFWC prompt:
Week of August 19, 2022
Hide: Perhaps they’re playing a childhood game. Perhaps they’re being pursued. They’ve just escaped custody (deserved or no) or crashed behind enemy lines. They’re a hacker evading security systems. They can’t bear a loved one finding out what they used to be like, and try so hard not to be anymore. They can’t break character and let their mark know he’s been had. When (and what) has your character had to hide?
Feel free to continue submitting stories for any prompt.  A masterpiece missed the deadline?  Don’t let it gather electronic dust.  Submit it anyway and Short Fiction Weekly Challenge will publish it.
This week’s featured previous prompts are:
The Spirit of the Law: Last week your character used the law as written to get what they want, for good or ill. This week, have them interpret the law as they believe it is supposed to be followed or enforced. Maybe all those procedures have a purpose, but mostly keep people from using the services or getting the protection they need. Maybe it should protect the vulnerable--but it’s not written that way. Maybe it’s outdated and no longer relevant to current times without some creative interpretation. This week, have your character uphold the intent--as they understand it--behind the law.
Out of Touch: A phrase with a number of meanings. When has your character been out of touch, and how? Did they drop out of contact with their friends and family?  Why? What interfered? Maybe they are always out of step with cultural norms: missing jokes and references and classically “out of touch.” Is this a choice? A facet of their personality? Were they removed from the larger culture for some reason and now miss everyone’s references and make ones no one remembers? Are they from the future, having learned of the present only from books? From the past, unmoored in their new world? A character can be out of touch in a number of ways. Explore some this week.
Got an idea for a prompt?  Submit it here.

All Fall Weekly Writing Challenges Original Post
September 3-9
Distraction Elimination Challenge: There’s something you’re wasting your time on. You know what it is. Avoid it like the plague for a full day (or the full week) and spend your time writing instead.   Have you tried turning off distractions for a day? A week? How did it go for you?
A huge portion of internet and media content is predatory on my time and attention - I click, and whoosh, there goes an hour of my life. I don't come away thinking, 'I enjoyed reading that book!' 'cute video!' or 'What a great TV show!' Instead, I feel like from a moment of boredom, frustration, or habit, I automatically turned on the distraction, and I wasted my time on pointless content. This is a sign to recalibrate and establish a balance between writing time and junk media time. I avoided my chief distractor (YouTube) for this week and (though I am not posting it now) I am happy to say I got through an awkward, sticky part of my WIP. I sat down and got to work. The forest app is a fun tool I like for focusing. You plant a virtual tree, and if you use your phone while it's growing, it dies. Here are my trees for that week:
Tumblr media
I feel like I need to give a caveat here: this strategy works best for me short term. After a week, even with distractions off, I see my productivity go down. I need time to think about a project passively, in the back of my head as well as actively, putting words on the page. Those distractions aren't zero value all the time, but they definitely need to be controlled. Also, it may be helpful to seek out better-quality content during breaks. Book > Lazy Internet Article. Award Winning Movie > short junk videos.

Digital Writing Magazines
Yes, we are living in a Digital World and that is no exception for writing magazines. It seems that paper magazines are slowly dying out. There are a variety of new magazines as well that have been started on a shoestring because printing and shipping costs are no longer a factor. The great thing is you can even start this kind of service yourself. All you need is a couple of your writing friends…

Ghostly Parents AU
An AU where Jason was ghost adopted after he died. His resurrection caused his ghost parent a lot of grief. First their kid was brought back to life, having to dig out of his own grave which is extremely traumatic. Second he was kidnapped by a bunch of cultists. Thirdly, said cultist dumped him in contaminated ectoplasm, giving his ecto-posioning. Fourthly they tried to brainwash him and generally treat him horribly. To say that Jason's parent was furious was putting it mildly.
Now depending on the ghostly parent the methods to get him back and how they raise him differ. There is plenty of ghost parents to choose from. There is Frostbite, who would probably just show up and ignore everyone while he treats Jason for ecto-posioning. Depending on who they were he might heal others. He would also do something to the pits just because of how dangerous they are, unknowingly single handily wrecking the League by doing so.
Fright Knight would probably challenge Ras for kidnapping his son/squire, sending him to the nightmare dimension.
Ghost Writer would force the whole League into a book of Jason's choosing forever.
Pandora would charge and seize the League, forcing them to face Amazon justice.
And that is just how they would bring him back, raising him is a totally different matter. Frostbite is pretty chill, ha, but would insist on teaching him the basics of first aide. This could lead Jason to becoming a Doctor that Alfred always wanted in the family because of how well it feeds into his protection obsession. This also leads Jason to meet "The Great One" the yetis always talk about. Whether he joins the yetis in their religion like in one of @long-live-astronerd-ghost-king 's post ( https://www.tumblr.com/long-live-astronerd-ghost-king/742150810600947712?source=share ) or tease Danny about it relentlessly is up to you.
With Fright Knight he would be a squire to him. Jason easily settles into this role because it reminds him of what he did with Batman. All he really did was trade one Dark Knight for another. Like "Afterlife" by batling_out_of_hell on Ao3. Training might kick up a notch because of the kidnapping though. This is also how he meets Danny. Since he is training under Fright Knight who is Danny's knight, this leads to some romance of a knight and his king.
Ghost Writer and Jason would get along like house on fire. They often spend their days writing and reading. Ghost Writer also is very supportive of Jason getting to finish his education. He is not so supportive of Jason's relationship with Danny. He doesn't say anything because of how happy Danny makes Jason but he certainly does not like it, at least at first.
With Pandora he originally had a small fan girl moment because she's related to Wonder Woman! He gets along great with the other Greeks, sparring and having philosophical debates. He meets Danny when he comes for his weekly tea time with Pandora, who later coos about how great they look together.
