I mean, I can see it, but wouldn't have been my first pick.
I really expected to get the gremlin option when I anwered the first two questions. Turns out that the only answers I understood from the popculture sections gave me this.

You aren't a monolith
I know my ADHD ass needed this reminder, so maybe one of you needed it too: just because all the professionals say that the only way to be taken seriously is to write every day, and to write actual words and not just notes. Just because they say you need to force yourself to finish a project in one go to get anything done doesn't mean that that is true. Just because they are published doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.
I have ADHD, which means I can't force myself to stay on one thing until it's finished. My brain works in cycles, usually, I write fantasy, sometimes I write sci-fi, rarer than that is celebrity drama and rarely it's horror. I can't force myself to write outside of my current mood because if I do, I'm not having fun and the text is dogshit, so I might as well have not written anything at all and I would have paradoxically been more productive!
I'm currently experimenting with a style where I have a WIP to represent each of my moods and I will work on each WIP when that mood comes. I shall report back once the results are in.
Forgotten
So, I have been quiet about my last WIP bc I have been struggling with it. I have been slogging along, writing daily for months, but last week I gave up because it was too painful. I then started a project with a friend where we randomized everything.
It's about a polycule, where the POV character is like an edgy Robin Hood who starts dating their childhood friends, Cruella Devil the tattoo artist, and a scarred war veteran who is a golden retriever in human form. The tone is light and "childish." (We randomized children's literature as one of the genres)
This reminded me that writing, it turns out, is supposed to be fun! Shocking, right?
This is the reason I'm not currently pursuing getting published even tho I wish to do so; I started treating writing as if it were my job even though it's just my hobby. (The avalanche of writing advice only applicable to neurotypical writers didn't help)

Nature is beautiful
When encountering a predator, such as a terf, in the wild, a gay will turn its back, curl up and start screaming "they/them" at a progressively aggressive and higher pitch until the threat has passed. Once the predator is gone the gay will continue scurrying around the forest floor looking for fruits and nuts for that one special month of the year when de gays all huddle together to create a big gay. Some subspecies of gay hibernate through the winter months in their glitter burrows

Current WIP update
For those curious about my current WIP, I dusted off a few years old project bc I got into the mood for writing characters with fame and a luxurious lifestyle.
Here's the summary of "Lucky U" so far:
Lance has known of Lucky’s existence for a while now. After moving back to the UK from LA, he is happy to meet his mysterious media manager. He has heard the 'guy' is famous in 'his' own right, though he has done 0 research on 'him'. Unlike Lucky, it seems. Until now they had only exchanged rare emails in a very professional manner, but now they get to talking, and talk they do. Lucky, it turns out, is a bit of a flirt, and Lance is happy to reciprocate. He could talk with the 'guy' all day. Their relationship quickly escalates, and Lance finds himself falling in love with Lucky, going on dates and even cuddling, all while profoundly uninterested in having sex with them. Hell, even the thought of calling her his girlfriend feels wrong.
Just as the two are getting used to each other, crisis arrives. Someone is dead, and another will be soon if the inheritance mess is not quickly sorted out!
I'm planning to make this a platonic love story between these two, as well as experimenting with writing a villain and a properly structured plot, as those are something I want to add to my skill set.
I have a feeling that a platonic 'romance' is going to be a recurring theme in my writing.

Prompt: When prophecy fails
It's the end of the world, and in the chaos, everyone is screaming over each other "This is just like what my religion predicted!"
However, to anyone with any self-awareness, working eyeballs and ears, it is very obvious that this is cope. The events are wholly new to everyone and seemingly have never been described before.
It turns out that a long-forgotten caveman religion was the only one who got it right.
You, just like everyone else, are the victim of the relentless march of time and humanity's everlasting inability to keep accurate records of its history, free of bias and tampering. What now?

End times
An angel was lying on his stomach on a rooftop overlooking the yard of a secondary school, binoculars in hand. Aw fuck aw fuck aw fuck, went Ectovius’s internal monologue for yet another hour. Why did Mary need to be 14 again? Nothing in the plan required her to be still a child, other than the fact that it had been the case the last time. Jesus could just come on earth as an adult, couldn’t he?
The deadline loomed closer than ever, unyielding to his desperate procrastination for a year. Stupid plans, stupid second coming, stupid attentive adults looking after the kids.
Ectovius ducked away from the rooftop edge. Two of the teachers on watch duty peered in his direction. One of them was the coach, an attractive black dude whose six-pack he could see through the shirt all the way here even without binoculars. Defeated, he unconjured the binoculars into the ether with holy magic and dragged himself to the exit as low to the ground as he could.
He tried to look as much like he lived there as possible. The two meters of height and broad shoulders of a bodybuilder made it a challenge, but he managed to carefully give the little old lady in there with him some personal space. He had company waiting when he stepped out the front door. The fit teacher stood before him, a skeptical look in his silvery eyes. That was the only part of his face that Ectovius could make out behind the black fabric mask that he should have noticed earlier, had he not been focusing on the abbs. Wait, silver eyes?!
“What do you want, demon?” The words left his lips as an icy growl as he instinctively assumed a defensive position. The demon stood its ground, not taking its eyes off his.
“To know what an angel’s doing staring at little girls,” it retorted. Rather than hostile, its voice sounded genuinely curious.
He had not expected his first-ever sighting of a demon to be one in a bright yellow attention vest and warm woolly shirt.
Concentrate! It’s trying to seduce you into sin and evil. This is exactly what you have been training to resist for two millennia.
The demon stepped closer, capitalizing on his distracted thoughts. Ectovius recoiled back, coming alarmingly close to having his back against the glass doors. “You are the one standing right next to them, staring at them all day. I have seen you here for at least a week!”
“My boss has never gotten a minor pregnant,” the demon pointed out.
Ectovius swallowed hard, a mistake he failed to hide. Encouraged by the sight of his distress, the demon took yet another step, closing the distance and coming almost nose-to-nose with him. “You didn’t answer me. Why are you here?” It asked, a mischievous glint in its eyes.
“Get off me!” Ectovius screamed and shoved it to the side. The demon crashed against a wall. It yelped in surprise as it made contact.
Without thinking, Ectovius reached his hand in the air, conjuring his holy golden spear above his head. He went to plunge it into the creature's skull, but it threw itself out of the way faster than he had anticipated. The spear let out a hot scream as it melted into the brick wall’s surface. He could hear the demon struggle back onto its feet behind him. The spear was deeply embedded into the wall, the heat from the holiness infused in the tip having glommed the surrounding material into a ball of glass. With all his might, he ripped the spear out, sending red stone dust and pebbles flying in all directions and taking the mass of half-molten wall with it. He spun around, brandishing the combination like a great mallet, but a crash of thunder deafened him. The sound echoed in the small alcove they stood in. A blisteringly hot pain pierced his shoulder with a force that threw him backwards into the crumbling brickwork. The moment his head made impact he was out.
Ectovius regained awareness, thanks to the feeling of being stared at. He opened his eyes to find the demon on the edge of his bed, looming over him with studying eyes. Instinct told him to hit it with all his might but the attempt of lifting his arm had him gasping as the blisteringly hot pain returned.
Instead of sadistic glee, the demon’s eyes went wide with worry. It scrambled up and scuttered out of the room in search of something.
He glared after it and writhed in bed for a moment. When he stilled the pain subsided enough for him to calm down and look around the room. It didn’t look like hell but like a high-end apartment. As he struggled to sit up, the demon entered the room again, carrying a glass of water in one hand and a mystery pill in the other. Ectovius cowered away when presented with them.
“It’s just a painkiller.” In the calmer moment, the demon had a soft and inviting voice, the kind that an unsuspecting victim would want to befriend immediately.
“You are drugging me,” Ectovius hissed pathetically.
The demon shook its pretty head. “Don’t you think if I wanted something from you, I would have taken it already?” It shoved the pill to his face again. He took it meekly, realizing that he had no options. A familiar feeling of smallness and fear of repercussion overtook him. He was small underneath the creature's gaze, despite the fact he was a head taller and double its weight.
The demon stepped back after handing him the glass.
“Why would you help me?”
“I have not seen one of you down here in a while. Would have been a waste to leave you for dead after I shot you.” The demon smiled and its gaze travelled over his body and returned to his eyes.
“Shot by a demon…” Ectovius said in disbelief under his breath.
“I have a name. It’s Amadeus.” It stepped closer again and waggled a finger disapprovingly in his face. “Use it.”
Amadeus didn’t seem like a bad person, which should have made him appear even slimier to Ectovius. God had always been careful to warn him to stay away from the manipulative hellspawn. But as he watched Amadeus work on his teaching duties, grading students' work and putting cute stickers next to the scores, that warning seemed far away and paranoid. Amadeus seemed like just a nice guy who just happened to be a demon. Then again, that’s how they got to you, right? They lied and tricked you into a false sense of security, and then… And then what? A man like Amadeus could get whatever he wanted by just asking nicely, what on earth would he need treachery for?
Ectovius sat back on the couch and reached for the remote, craving for a distraction from his racing paranoid mind. His hurt arm rested in a cradle against his chest.
Floods, fires, hurricanes. Ectovius closed the TV again after less than five minutes. He leaned his face into the palm of his hand. The end times were approaching fast, and he was stuck here.

Finding your style
It's frustrating to have to scrap an idea you had hope in but that just doesn't fit your current skill level.
I had to do that with my current project. I had this epic idea for a plot-driven story that I simply don't know how to do yet. I'm a character-focused writer and I had to be honest with myself and simplify the outline greatly. The good side to this was that it instantly became more personal and grounded, which is what I strive for in my writing.

Prompt: I'm the last of my kind, should I be worried?
Endling is the last of her species, the definitive end of her bloodline. The world around her has destroyed her people and is largely indifferent to that fact.
The people around her feel sorry for her, interpreting her stoicism as silent crying. The angst party in her circle of friends is never-ending and determined to not let her forget about it.
The thing is, Endling is scared. Not of being the last, oh no, but of admitting that she does not care. Should she care? Shouldn't she be angsting over how she will never feel "true love?" How she will never be able to bear a child? How she will have to settle for the wonderful people she has chosen to keep around her instead of the abusive family she ran away from? The family that was the whole reason she was off her home planet/city/nation when the genocide occurred? She does not know, and she wonders if she will ever find someone who can understand her.

Creativity is found in weird places
Ya know what's funny? I have now twice started out a story as a high school romance because I find high school such a nice setting. It's kinda free, kinda restrictive, you can do some adult shit but also can't just run away from your problems like adults can.
With Puppylove I heard someone talking about how creepy it is to pair a teenager/barely legal character with an immortal, so I aged Fetcher up to 32 to stick it up to that person. That decision was the best I ever made because, turns out, writing actual adults is way more interesting! They have experiences, established relationships and baggage that teens just can't have.
My bratty teen tantrum accidentally made my writing better xD

Alejandro Ortega (he/him)
Overview
His true age is unknown but it is over a hundred, maybe two. Idk I haven't narrowed down what timescale this world works yet and I don't feel like lying to you or trying to talk around it. For the sake of a reference point, he was an adult by the time of the USian civil war (the first one, not the one brewing in 2024)
Alejandro, or Ali, is from my fantasy romance Puppylove.
He is charming and friendly but also knows how to be snarky and funny. He doesn't talk about himself much, instead preferring to learn everything about the people around him. This makes him appear mysterious, though he himself thinks he is completely normal. He is one of those people who like to make you feel heard and understood.
He follows laws and social rules to the letter, not necessarily the spirits. He likes staying low profile in conflicts but isn't completely opposed to playing dirty if that's needed. What matters to him the most is that his friends think he is good, not necessarily if he himself feels good about his actions. This means he may go against his own morals to appease others sometimes.
He was born in Spain but migrated to the states after being turned into a vampire.
Like this character? Read his story here! :)

Basic Information
Nicknames
❛ Ali ❜
Pronounced closer to "alley"
The humans in his life like to call him by this name affectionately. He has no feelings on the matter.
Name
❛ Alejandro Ortega ❜
Ortega isn't his original family name. After he died he took the last name of his vampire mentor/father, Gore Ortega.
❛ Panadero ❜
It means 'baker' in Spanish, as he was the son of a baker. This name is one of the few things he remembers from his life before death, and if he is very honest with himself, he might even be remembering it wrong.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Birthday
He doesn't know
People haven't always felt the need to track the exact day and year a baby was born. He has a hunch it was around May, making him a Taurus, but even the decade is hazy in his memory.
Age
~200
Since he died around the age of 20, his looks and brain chemistry have been stopped permanently at that age. He is as wise as anyone his age (though he is young for a vampire) but this is something he is self-aware of and mildly insecure about.

Personality
Overall Personality
I won't lie, Ali starts out as a rather passive character. This is a remnant of his origins as a blank slate for me to project onto. Over time he has acquired personality, but I'm still figuring out what gets him going. As I write this I'm realising that the first book mostly happens at him, and that is something I will be working on in future instalments.
Adventurous: Ali enjoys travel. He can't stay in one place for a long time, though this is speaking from the perspective of a vampire. He has friends all over the country and the world and so never lacks an excuse to get up and run off.
Luddite: Though he isn't very vocal about it, Ali judges others for relying on tech. Anything that isn't necessary is trash to him, especially if the designer lacked the common decency to make it appealing to look at!
Charismatic: Ali can get along with anyone. He is a social chameleon, being able to fit in anywhere. This is a blessing and a curse, since he can befriend people easily, but lacks a strong sense of identity. He is especially fast to befriend women, as his soft looks and equally pleasant demeanour make people feel safe and unintimidated.
Family-oriented: Though he has some commitment issues, a contradiction in his nature is this: he yearns for connection and safety through having a robust safety net. His worst fears are all related to losing friends and the influence that they bring, and so he spends a lot of time with the upkeep of his social network. He is very much an extrovert.
Natural cook: Ali loves cooking, it has been his preferred art form since childhood. Sadly, after becoming a vampire he lost his ability to taste his own creation, but it hasn't stopped him. He has become great at interpreting the reactions of others to his food, and even if he can't smell or taste anything, he can instantly know if he used too little or too much spice.
Mysterious: Ali struggles to speak what doesn't need to be spoken - or what he thinks doesn't need to be spoken. Since he likes to blend in socially, he is always sucking in influences from others, and this can get tricky when it comes to toxic ways to express oneself. Or rather, not express oneself. There is nothing wrong with preferring to talk about others more than yourself, but if it crosses over to never expressing your worries, or that expressing causing a lot of anxiety, it should probably be looked at. His father is bad at talking about his feelings, and even though Ali was an adult when he met Gore, he has spent a lot of time around the man and so has inherited his bad coping mechanisms. If one could get them to speak of their feelings between each other, that would constitute a miracle.
Ali has learned one thing from spending so much time around the rich and powerful: Never ever speak your true thoughts around them. At first, Ali isn't great at advocating for change. He knows things are wrong and would prefer to wait until things boil over. It takes him finding affirmation of his feelings for him to start acting on his thoughts.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Love Language
Since he likes to cook, a passive perk of being his friend is that he will cook for you a lot, but this isn't necessarily how he shows affection. He enjoys physical touch, and quality time is his close 2nd favourite.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Brain
Trauma, plenty of it. I mean, he is old and a member of a minority.
Oh, and plenty of daddy issues.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Habits
Other characters remark at times that he tends to gravitate toward befriending women over anyone else. This isn't a good or bad thing, just an observation that he may later ponder about himself.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Coping strategy
Silence and conformity: though he thinks he is good at it, coping isn't one of his strong suits. He tolerates better than copes. And he is also just as bad at telling when others need to change their unhealthy ways. A bit of a "live and let die" thing he has going on mutually between his friends.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Fears
Losing social connections and security through those connections.
Most of the time this is a passive worry. As a sociable extrovert, he orients his life around people and usually doesn't have to worry about losing friends.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Flaws
Insecurity: Ali knows that his father's treatment of him is wrong, but since he has never had anyone agree on that, he has largely let it slide. Fetcher is the first person to give him hope that he isn't just being a sensitive little snowflake for nothing.

Appearance
Overall Appearance
Tumblr media
(can you tell I used Sims 3 to make this?)
Cute, sound face and milky white eyes. By the end of Puppylove he has facial burn scars. (not pictured, I can't figure out how to draw)
He has short hair with an accent of pink mixed in that he is rather proud of. (not pictured)
He is 167cm tall, in fairly good shape for someone of his age, heh, and way stronger than he looks.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Beast form
All vampires can turn into a bat, older vampires into a swarm. However, this is not the same as shifting, though I have not figured out the exact difference. To shifters, it is a life state, while to vampires it is a mere vehicle.
Ali is a young vampire, so he can only turn into a single bat. He uses this form to travel long distances fast and to hide in little holes to sleep the day away.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Tattoo's
None, because he is too classy and old-fashioned for that. Over time his views may change on this.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Piercings
During the 60's he acquired ear piercings. His collection is minimal, currently just a pair of small gold rings. Having his ears pierced was an act of rebellion, but he has since grown to enjoy the way it makes him look, though he still takes them off for formal events and when meeting older vampires. He claims this is out of respect, it really isn't. He doesn't respect those people at all.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Clothing Styles
He enjoys a good pattern. His wardrobe is minimal since he lives out of his suitcase, so he wears simple and easy-to-style clothes.
His favourite colour is green.
Would he wear a dress?
Never.
Does he wear makeup?
No.
Everyday style
A green flannel shirt and jeans.
Cold weather
I don't even know if he feels cold yet. He wears some warm-looking clothes in a minimal style to not look out of place.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Species
Vampire
He is a vampire of human origin, hence he is a pretty basic bitch. Burns in the sun, undead, drinks blood, super strength. He has no sense of smell or taste. If he were to eat something other than blood it would pass through like fiber in humans.
There are more complicated Shofter vampires who retain their shifter form. The good side of this is that if theyhave thick fur, these guys can go into the sun for a little bit. Ali's vampire mentor/father is one, a borzoi.
• ━━━━━ • ☽ • ━━━━━ •
Culture
High class, aristocratic, white, colonialist, passively racist and sexist etc. Think of real life but with an extra Victorian flare.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Religion
None
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Language
English is his second language, his mother tongue being Spanish. He speaks both in an old-timey style, not because he doesn't know how to modern slang, but because he is stubborn and likes feeling fancy. His understanding of modern things is actually very high level.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Setting
Though distinct from Earth in many ways, the planet Puppylove takes place in is based on/inspired by it. Things like countries and languages are roughly the same, though not exactly. The time period is not yet clear but it's roughly speaking contemporary.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Location
He was born in Spain a long time ago, was raised there until he was 20 and then he met Gore, his mentor. Gore offered that in exchange for Ali coming with him, his family would be uplifted from the small-time merchants they were into a wealthy family. This is how he ended up in the US.
He doesn't have a permanent residence, though he owns many properties. He travels a lot and has gifted most of them to friends and families he patronizes. As immortals, vampires sometimes befriend families and check on them every lifetime or so. This is called patronizing.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Occupation
Full-time pest on society: landlord and business owner. He is rather hands-off with his money ventures and only pokes his head in occasionally or when things are going wrong.
• ━━━━━ • ☽ • ━━━━━ •
Relationships
Familial relationships
Gore Ortega, adoptive father
These two barely get along. Recently, as in 80 years ago, Ali got sick of his father's shit and decided to venture out on his own. Before this, he acted as the man's henchman and was treated for a long time more like a pet than a real human being. Is that because the guy is racist or because he is just a shit father? Yes.
His biological family is long dead and he remembers very little about them.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Friends
Tilly Mazie
Supporting character in Puppylove. An energetic teenager who got wrapped in supernatural and family drama. Tilly has known Ali for only a month, yet she already feels like he is family. While the feeling isn't mutual, Ali appreciats her and though he had to leave town in a hurry, he will be sure to check up on her in a timeframe that a witch would find appropriate.
He has numerous friends and acquaintances whom he keeps close contact with.
ஓ๑♥๑ஓ
Partners
Chewy Fetcher Bree, boyfriend
Brand new boyfriend and the man he fell in love with in less than a month, the weirdo. Fetcher is something refreshingly new in Ali's life: someone to affirm he isn't crazy. Fetcher is supportive toward him and he is in turn to Fetcher. They haven't discussed their relationship yet, and Fetehr is under the impression they are open, while Ali isn't quite sure what to do.

My WIPs
I have 3-ish WIPs atm:
Puppylove 1-2
The main active one is a sequel to my published 1st draft/novel, Puppylove. The first book is about the main characters Alejandro and Fetcher meeting and starting to date and Fetcher's family drama and how Ali helps him deal with (or rather, run away from) it. The sequel is about Ali taking Fetcher on a trip to a vampire party (he is a vampire, Fetcher is a werewolf) and meeting Ali's dad and essentially book 2 is about Fetcher helping Ali deal with his family issues, except this time they actually deal and don't run away instantly!
After I finish working on the outline of book2 I'm planning to go through book 1 and pretty much rewrite it to reflect my current skill level. The story itself won't change much, just wording and I will add depth to the characters if needed. That's it.
Spirits and Bleach
The project I was working on before this was Spirits and Bleach; my first attempt at dabbling in mystery novels. It's a story about Bleach, a witch/exorcist who gets roped into investigating a murder with a random ghost they find and who at first thinks he developed a crush on them, but they end up in a QPR by the end and travel the world together. I have an outline and I started writing it out but burned out, and I don't know atm if that is because the outline was lacking or if I just needed a break from the project. I can't wait to get back to it tho, I love Bleach and I can't wait to show their story to the world.
Dino People
My 3rd project is known as DinoPi, or Dino People. It's a mess. The general point is that it's a fantasy world, maybe or maybe not with futuristic technology, where people can turn into dinosaurs. That's all I know lol. Originally it was sci-fi and the dinos were a science thing, then it was magic. Originally the story was a romance taking place in a civil war, where a spy sneaks over the border and falls in love with a good Christian boy who arrests him for sneeking over said border. Now I'm thinking of changing the genre entirely to something else. I had written like 10k words of the original plot before I got stuck and had to scrap it bc I simply had no ideas for the story. I wanted the leads to kiss, but they hated each other. I don't do enemies to lovers, I'm not skilled enough yet to make it not sound abusive. Now I'm toying with the idea of the story starting with them married and about to get a kid. Yesterday a friend asked for an idea for a movie poster to draw and I wrote down this idea:
"Well since I'm kinda stuck on the dino theme, I had an idea of the vocal point being a dude either leaping through the air to catch a falling laughing baby or holding said laughing baby in one arm and holding a gun in the air with the other, a lil like that example with how he holds the lady, and in the background are dinosaurs fighting."
said example: true lies action movie poster
Concept: Bruce wants a baby and Joker ends up being the cool spy dad bodyguard protecting the baby from bad guys (the baby is special or something. The concept is silly already so just go with it, make it stupid)
If you want a taste of what their vibes are, I made a spinoff short story called Office Work
Rep
When it comes to representation, I want to do my best to bring in diversity. I mean, even if it weren't just the moral thing to do (which it is), it's just good writing to have more than one type of character and perspective. Hence, I have the following intentions/plans for these WIPs:
Puppylove: have ace rep through Ali and auDHD rep through Fetcher. Also, Ali is black and has lived for two centuries in a world with a history similar to ours. I want to have a realistic approach when it comes to his trauma from the shit he has had to see, but I'm not going to promise any specific themes. I'm as white as can be and a lot of this will be dependent on how willing of a sensitivity reader/person who will smack me if I do a stupid I can find. Applications are open btw.
Spirits and Bleach: have ace aro and nb rep with Bleach and I'm not yet sure what their friend might bring to the table, but I sure know he isn't straight lol.
DinoPi: As I said, the story is a mess, but I have for the longest time known Joker has some sort of a disability that causes chronic pain. My thought has been he is an ambulatory wheelchair user. I don't have personal experience with this, but I have a friend who is happy to help me with the chronic pain part at least.
General gay rep you can always expect since I seem to be incapable of writing anything that doesn't have at least one gay dude in it.

Voices
I saw a post about writing natural-sounding dialogue and this prompted me to wonder about the individual voices my characters have. I have been aware of the fact I'm not that well versed in this aspect of writing, and on top of that a couple of days ago, I was told by a friend that he struggled to keep up with who was speaking in a scene at times.
So, I started looking it up today. Learning to be good at it will take a long while, but I like the challenge. This article was one of the things I found
Points 5, 6 and 7 were thought-provoking. It's about film, but the same ideas work for novel writing too.
Character voices don't come to me naturally, so if anyone has any other resources, articles, videos, or whatever it may be, I would love to take a look at them!

I'm still figuring this shit out for myself, but a promising trick I have found for at least smaller sections of "this sucks," is this: I leave comments in my docs document for every bit that sucks. I write down what I hate about it and move on. This way I get the frustration out while not wasting time and brain cells fiddling with the bad bits that might very well get yeeted in the 2nd draft anyway.
I haven't tested this on longer periods of "this sucks," but we have the scientific process for a reason.
First Drafts and Perfectionism
So I am writing my first draft of my first novel in a fantasy series. And it was terrible, horrible. Everything I write, every sentence, paragraph, dialogue makes me want to vomit. I have spent time just rewriting and editing, and I KNOW first drafts suck usually, it's just about getting the words down and ideas out of my head. But how do I tame the perfectionist in me? How do I lock her away until it comes to editing and second draft? It's literally so hard because I love my story idea and it's evolving a lot, more ideas adding to the story and world, however just writing it out is so difficult. I know I'm not alone in this so, any writer's have advice on how to handle first drafts? All advice is welcomed ✨😊

Expression
For a while I have been pondering: why am I so offended by the notion that characters in animation have to have visible eyes since the eyes are the most expressive part of them?
Simple: I'm autistic. I struggle with facial expressions, and I'm way better at reading body language. This is why I adore shows and media with faceless characters who express themselves physically.
As a teen, I loved this show called Red Vs Blue, a machinima comedy set in the Halo universe. What I adore still about the show is how only a handful of the main cast have ever been given canonical faces, they all always wear full body armour!
Outside of the phenomenal animation of Monty Oum and being occasionally funny (I had a crush on Tucker for a long time as a kid) the show hasn't aged well and after Church dies I consider the show to have ended, and whatever they are doing now to be noncanonical. God, Monty's animation inspired me to try to be a director.
Back on topic: I think it would be really good for autistic kids to see themselves more in media through these faceless characters, like how I felt seen by them. Plus, they are a cool challenge for the visual artists, and who doesn't like improving in their chosen craft?
I haven't found a way to express this in my own writing, since in a written medium these things work in their own way and outside of a protagonist with an ongoing internal monologue I haven't seen this explode much. Exaggerated body language (or expression in general) is kinda funny, so there is always room for comedy.

Writeblr intro
Hello! I'm KAKi, I go by he/him and I write original fiction (I suppose if I were to find a fandom I liked I would write fanfiction too)
About my writing:
I like writing character-based stories, so my main genre is romance, but I love learning and branching out. I like having a "gimmick" in my work, so I often write fantasy because magic gives more variety.
I like writing short stories and novellas that usually turn into series. I want my work to be easy to jump into and satisfying to put down once you are done reading. This is probably a bad marketing tactic, but I don't mind being unmarketable.
I generally strive to write stuff I would myself want to read. This means grounded, soft and cosy stuff where most conflict comes from the world and not from the relationships. I don't really care for melodrama. I had a traumatic childhood, so I like seeing the characters I like happy and thriving. I also try to keep my casts of characters diverse and nuanced, feeling more like real people than characters. Is this an impossible task? Maybe, but I like having a goal to work toward.
You can find my Wattpad and my first book here. I have so far published a fantasy romance novella, a collection of fantasy short stories and some standalone horror short stories.
My WIPs:
You can find the post containing my WIPs here
Genres:
-Fluffy Romance
-Fantasy
About me:
I was born in 2002 and I live in Finland
I started writing regularly in 2020, but I have been a storyteller all my life. I lost quite a few friends as a kid due to info dumping to them about my stories too much ^^'
I'm neurodivergent and part of the lgbta+ community
I have a fascination with psychology and families/family trees, and I incorporate both into my writing
I would like to be a director of my own show one day
Why am I here?
I started this blog in hopes of finding new friends, finding mentors and peers who like reading/writing and getting feedback on my writing and how to improve the way I write characters from different groups and backgrounds.
I would like to encourage constructive feedback on this page as much as possible. As an autistic person, I find the lack of feedback in my normal life frustrating.
Suggest me things, ask me things, infodump to me about the shit you like, introduce me to your fav Thing and get me to make it my whole personality for a week!
When it comes to beta and alpha reading, I'm of course always looking for new ones as my projects move forward, and I will also do it for you in bite-sized chunks.
For anyone worried about spam liking/reblogging/commenting, don't be. Give me all of it. And feel free to tag me in any games, tho maybe DM me how they work first in case I'm too chickenshit to ask.

Getting to know your character
I see so many lists of short and emotionless questions in all these guides for characters.
Personally, these never work, because I need to feel who the character is as a person more than I need to know what their opinion on xyz is. If I feel them on some level, answers usually just materialize. This is why when I make a biography of my character I prefer questions or prompts that act as an open-ended jumping-off point instead of a brainless "pick from this list" thing.
If I know who their parents are and what childhood trauma they experienced broadly, I can then answer what coping strategies they have developed, which in turn will inform their motivations and fears.
This works in all directions too, since every part supports the other. I may write the character's broad personality or role in the story down, then figure out what their backstory is, and from that, I then go back and expand on the earlier information.
I strive for my characters to feel like real breathing people, and this strategy is definitely not necessary for characters who don't need that level of nuance.
In the list of questions I have been working on for myself, I try to phrase every part in a way that encourages future me to expand on the thing more. I try to treat the answers as an exercise in creative writing more than just a simple answer.
Answering questions in character doesn't work for me, since the whole reason I'm answering the questions is to get in the character's head in the first place. It just ends up feeling forced, and when I feel forced I don't work well. Instead, I write in my own voice about the character, like I were describing a friend. I answer things from my own (omnipotent) knowledge and their (limited) knowledge to get an idea of their perspective and an idea of the facts that they don't want to see.
