Fan Art Friday: 2
Ori and The Will of The Wisps? More like angry bird versus ghost mouse 2: the depressening.
Tumblr media
(My drawing)
Ori and The Will of The Wisps is the sequel to Microsoft and Moon studio's popular 2015 metroidvania, Ori and The Blind Forest. The game follows Ori and Ku (Kuro's owlet) on their involuntary trip to the island of Niwen after getting separated by a storm. So Ori must find Ku but in addition to that Niwen is experiencing issues not unlike those seen on Nibel and Ori, being the kind soul that he is, helps the people of Niwen out.
The game is a bit more like hollow knight relative to the previous game.
One of the cool things in Ori and The Will of The Wisps is that you meet a bunch of characters along the way
Tumblr media
Lupo, the cartographer
Tumblr media
Tokk, an explorer
Tumblr media
The moki
And many others.
The combat in Ori and The Will of The Wisps is significantly better than that of the previous game. Rather than just spamming spirit flame you actually have to fight your opponents with a variety of different weapons and attacks (my favourite is the hammer), also with that there are actual boss fights as well as the escapes.
Also shout out to Gareth Coker a truly spectacular composer he did it again with an amazing OST.
Spoiler alert
The game is overall very good, but there were a few things I didn't like, such as I really didn't like the limited play time for Ku, I was expecting to have a fair few levels with her but really it was just one, and the end of her segment felt forced, like those making the game wanted not to have to do a bunch of work on making more Ku levels. And on that note certain parts of the game feel like they were rushed, but none more than the ending. I don't know if they were going for a tragedy, but the ending felt very unsatisfying and contradictory to the previous game.
All in all I give Ori and The Will of The Wisps a seven and a half out of ten.

Monday's musings: I had a though;
Tumblr media
So unless you've been living under a rock you have to have heard of Disney's The Mandalorian and while talking about it with a friend I had an idea: "The Canadian"
Just hear me out
Although mandalorians are known for being some of the best bounty hunters, a mandalorian is ultimately just someone from the planet Mandalore, which lead me to The Canadian.
The plot: now I haven't really fleshed it out, it kinda just came to me, but following Burger King's purchasing of Tim Hortons the people at Burger King hear tell of these deserts called beaver tails. Now the people at Burger King don't realize that beaver tails are a pastry so the do it the way the aboriginals did it, ie the tails of actual beavers and they send out Tim Hortons employees to hunt down beavers and offer a special reward for anyone who can find a rare type of beaver said to be particularly delicious.
So one character, the protagonist, is travelling with other hunters who have just killed a lodge full of these rare beaver, finds a lone beaver kit and has a bit of a moral dilemma and decides to bonk the other hunters with a hockey stick and runs away with the kit in attempt to find safe haven for the little beaver but runs into trouble and eventually has to fight The Burger King.
And I can say it's based on true events because Buger King did buy Tim Hortons (though the rest is made up).

Fan Art Friday: 1, Beastars; "A human drama, with animal actors!" (Although there's a lot more to it)
Tumblr media
Beastars is a manga by Paru Itagaki which has been running for almost four years and is approaching it's twentieth volume (alledgedly the last) with a precursor said to be equally good (which I have yet to read) called beast complex.
Tumblr media
(There's also a Beastars anime, and though I've heard it's good, I haven't watched it.)
Beastars, for those of you who don't know, tells the story of Legosi,
Tumblr media
(My drawing, not great but I think it turned out mostly decent (though his mouth isn't quite right and it kinda bothers me))
a socially awkward grey wolf as he tries to navagate high-school and beyond whilst trying to keep his predatory instincts in check and eventually he fights to defend prey animals.
And then there's Louis, the deuteragonist.
Tumblr media
(Also my drawing, ch99)
Louis is an egotistical, carismatic, power hungry, wealthy deer and the lead actor of the drama club (of which Legosi is also a member). Because of his power hungryness he has a rather interesting dynamic with Legosi who has strength but is afraid he might hurt others.
Now, Paru is kinda a genius when it comes to character and world building, no characters really feel out of place and sometimes for the sake of world building a background character will be introduced to show what their lie is like and Paru definately know where she wants this word of hers to go (although she has a bad habit of forgetting and abandoning side characters).
But seriously, beastars is great, it has good pacing, seriously exceptional characters, good dialogue, I wasn't a big fan of her art style early on but she's gotten much better (especially post ch20 ish), and some of the character development is brilliant, to be able to do characters half as well as Paru is to write great charaters.
For these reasons give beastars an eight and a half out of ten.
P.S I meant to post this on friday but I realized late at night that I really didn't like the drawing I had of Louis and had to redo it, but then I was busy all day Saturday so... yeah, hope you like it

Here's some photos from a hike in early may:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The interesting thing about this trail is that it is a decomissioned railway the government turned into a hiking trail, so you get lots of parts which cut through little hills like these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And plenty of banks in the trail like this
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful day and there were creatures everywhere (mostly snakes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And a baby snek
Tumblr media
Also a newt(I think it's a newt anyway idk)
Tumblr media
But unfortunately Tumblr reatricts the number of pictures per post so these are my favorites of all the pictures I took that day.

Les chatons les chatons how I love les chatons! Love to hug and to snuggle little cats!
So a while back we were cat sitting for a friend of my father while they were moving and my father mentioned that he wanted a kitten, but we already had two cats and I seriously didn't think he would get another, but now we've got this guy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's an adorable little trouble maker and as such we've decided to name him Loki.
He likes going onto the kitchen table and for a bit there he couldn't jump all the way onto a chair to then reach the table, so he would try to climb anyone sitting at the table and a few times whilst trying to get off the table he brougt the table cloth and everything on it down with him.
---------------------------------------------------
Also I think I've devised a posting schedule that goes as follows:
Saturday/Sunday stuff: where in I post really just anything,
The monday musings: where I post opinions on stuff and random ideas I have,
The Wednesday walks: where I will post photos from places I've been,
And finally fanart friday, I will post art or a screenshot of someone or something from a book/movie/video game/TV show etc as well as my thoughts and opinions on said media.

I'm back from the dead!!!! Don't you just love bein' back from the dead!!!!
But seriously I've decided to try to come back, this time I intend to post more frequently, and post a wider variety of stuff, I have some interesting ideas on what to post including art, photos, writing ideas, game reviews/ opinions (because some how my most liked post is me rambling about games) and maybe (hopefully) more.
I will leave this here with something kinda neat;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My grandmother gave me an old camera and all the stuff she had for it.
Though it's around nine years older than I, it seems to function just fine and I'm excited to start taking pictures with it.

A friend and I were talking about how the lockdown is going and the conversation shifted to the topic of sleep and dreams, and he sent me an interesting article:
Apparently all around the world, people are having very vivid dreams and frequently are able to recall said dreams when they wake.
These dreams often include going to the supermarket, being unable to clean things or oneself, and doing things one normally would. But what's interesting is that psychoanalytic psychotherapist, Nick Blackburn, has had many patients reporting dreams about breaking rules and being punished. He believes this is because some subconsciously and irrationally believe that this lockdown is a punishment for their wrongdoings.
I found all of that qute interesting as I too have had vivid dreams; I've had dreams where I go to school, went grocery shopping with friends whom I teased about their unadventurous food choices, I've had dreams about biking, and just generally doing things I normally would, but haven't been able to recently.
Have you had any odd dreams recently? Feel free to share any interesting dreams you've had.
You can read the article yourself, and even participate in the 'lockdown dreams' survey if you want.

OH MY GOD I DID IT!
Tumblr media
I beat crystallized on expert plus! It took me so long but I finally did it!
(And I'm drenched in sweat)
For those of you who don't know, beat saber is a rythm game, where the player has two Sabres: one blue and one red, the object is to hit blocks with matching colours that are coming at you I accordance to their arrow:
Tumblr media
You also occasionally have to duck and dodge barriers and avoid hitting bombs; all to the beat of a song.
Now if that doesn't sound impressive here's a video of someone else (who admittedly did better than me) who beat it:
youtube
I also managed to beat the song: What The Cat, I don't really like it, as it is kind of just auto tuned cat noises. but it is another camellia song and despite it having more blocks and beats per second it feels easier.
Tumblr media
And here's a video of someone else whose beaten it:

Hello people of tumblr, welcome to my modern art show:
Tumblr media
Today's piece was made in Far Cry 5, and I believe it to be very meaningful; you see, to the untrained eye it just looks like a helicopter on a float-plane on a flatbed, but actually there's more to it. The helicopter represents the military, dependant on those below it for financial support, production, and for soldiers. The float-plane is actually a civilian craft, but is armed far more than necessary for the average person, because of the influence from the military it's so proud of. And finally is the flatbed, which represents the working class, it is the foundation, it carries all of them forwards and yet it is thankless, and taken advantage of.
P.S I'm joking about all that,I'm sure if I didn't say that someone would get mad. Honestly I just wanted to see if I could do it, and am kinda proud that I did.

My father and I were just talking about how it's finally feeling like spring, after a full week above zero degrees Celsius(yay), when realized that I had forgotten to post my pictures of the sugar bush from last weekend:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those who don't know, a sugar bush is where maple sap is gathered to make maple syrup. There were demonstrations of how it was made historically and how the process evolved.
It was a wonderful time, the hike was nice and long,
Tumblr media
the weather was brisk, it was so nice, I even stopped to feed the chickadees.

https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ontario-to-close-all-publicly-funded-schools-for-two-weeks-following-march-break
Apparently all public schools in Ontario are going to be closed until April. As you might imagine this is as a result of the Coronavirus, which, fortunately, isn't wide spread yet, so I suppose this is a sort of preemptive "just in case" closure, but wow, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself for three weeks.

"Amanda Hugandkiss!?"
"Hey, I'm lookin' for Amanda Hugandkiss!"
"Aww, why can't I find Amanda Hugandkiss?"
Tumblr media
Finding a boyfriend, as a guy, is entirely different from finding a girlfriend. Like, I can approach any girl, and they'll most likely be either straight or bi; no real worries.
I get that feeling Moe, why can't I find Amanda Hugandkiss.
Although I am bi, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer a guy, but I don't know.
How do you folks do it?

I know this might sound fairly Marxist, but while writing an essay on whether one should live in the present or work hard and enjoy retirement, I realized retirement is like heaven in a more philosophical sense; religion says though life may be difficult and painful, but if you suffer through it heaven awaits you.
Retirement too is somewhat of a scam like that, though you might not enjoy working your life away, retirement awaits you.
I just don't think it's right that one should have to work their youth away to try and muster the money to retire, because of how expensive retirement is, old folks can't always afford to retire which makes it harder for younger people to get good jobs.
Sorry to sound so pessimistic but you know, stuff needs to change.

I watched Ford versus Ferrari today and man was it good.
Tumblr media
The movie is a dramatic telling of how Ford teamed up with Carroll Shelby to develop the GT40 racecar in an attempt to beat Ferrari's 365 P2 Spyder at the 24 hours of Le Mans in France.
The movie captured everything I love about racing, and I just had to play Grand Tourismo afterwards
If you like racing and you get the chance, I absolutely recommend you watch this movie.

Metroidvanias aren't normally my type of game, but I tried, enjoyed, and beat Ori and The Blind Forest. So having beaten it I decided to get Hollow Knight, and it too is a lot of fun, though it's a bit more difficult. It kinda feels like if Dark Souls were a metroidvania. And on that note I'm also really looking forward to Ori and The Will of The Wisps, which comes out on March eleventh.

This is actually similar to something I want to do. I kind of want to see if I could convince anti-vaxers that the government is putting a "potentially dangerous" chemical called Dihydrogen Monoxide into our drinking water and foods and see how many people would sign a petition to remove it from our water.
I might also give some statistics about how many people have died from water related accidents like drowning, flooding, and such.

They legit got scared as anything
