From the day TesseracT started the countdown for this song on Instagram, I’ve been really excited for the full album to come out. While they’ve promised to add a reworked and remastered version of last summer’s single “Smile”, I’m sure I can expect a lot more from this album. I see a lot of comments talking about their dislike for “Luminary”, some saying that its a shift from their initial albums and how the song wasn’t ‘dark’ enough or heavy. I personally feel that this track is an upgrade on most songs of TesseracT’s “Polaris” album. There seems to be an emphasis on musical dynamics and instrumentational diversity as “Luminary” seems to visibly lack the top layer of ambient synth-based atmosphere that a lot of tracks on “Polaris” did. Most of the top layer atmosphere on “Luminary” seems to be guitar based. Not saying that there’s no synth, but its not as intense as some songs off “Polaris”. I also liked how they’re making this a more experimental album. Leaves so much scope for things to come! On the overall, “Luminary” is definitely playlist material and I can’t wait for the new album to come out. Keep your eyes open on the 20th of April for TesseracT’s newest album “Sonder”.

Altered State was a turning point for TesseracT’s music and that’s clearly evident in how much focus is given to melodies. Even though I like Dan Tompkin’s vocals more, Ashe O’hara has changed the TesseracT sound for the better by adding such wonderful melodic textures that Dan uses as well on Polaris. (Something I think he also picked up from Skyharbor).

Resist is part of a larger sound that is Of Matter, which makes up the meat of Altered State.
