hey i have a request. i was wondering if you could do a fluffy carol x fem reader, where it’s the morning after their wedding and carol is telling the reader everything she loves about her? thankyou!
of course!!
Handwritten Love
warnings: none!
———————————————————————
Your eyes slowly opened. The bright morning light dazzled through the translucent curtains, making you squint. As much as you felt groggy, a rush of adrenaline surged through you as you looked to your left to see Carol lying next to you. Awake and eager, she pecked your cheek.
“Well, good morning. Wife,” she giggled smoothing down your hair. You smiled softly and touched her cheek, remembering the blur of yesterday.
“You’re never going to get tired of saying that, are you?” You joked, taking her in your arms. She fell back into your embrace and sighed dreamily.
“Nope. Never,” she said triumphantly. Your smile became wider as your wedding played like a film in your mind, hoping you would never forget the joy of yesterday.
Now, you were on your honeymoon. Months prior to the wedding, you and Carol had had a long discussion on where you would go. Hawaii was too common, and Mexico didn’t sit right with Carol. As you felt the rise and fall of Carol’s chest, you reminisced.
“Here,” you had said to Carol, handing her a dart. She took the dart in her hand observed it with a confused expression.
“What am I doing with this?” She asked, ready to aim wherever.
You chuckled and gestured to the map on the wall. “Close your eyes and throw the dart. Wherever it lands is where we will go,” you said simply. Carol closed her eyes and took a deep breath, throwing the dart with precision.
And now, here the two of you were, in Ireland.
“What are you thinking about?” Carole asked. Her voice was gentle and it stirred a warm energy inside of you.
“How long it took us to find a place to go to for our honeymoon.”
She smiled, remembering the moment too.
The two of you began to get ready, hurrying in and out of the rooms in your hotel suite to get dressed. You observed your outfit in the mirror, admiring your style. You opened the window for the natural glow, until you realized how chilly it was.
“I better put on my coat,” you mumbled to yourself, looking in your suitcase for the piece of clothing. You searched the room, but it couldn’t be found.
Maybe Carol has it, you thought to yourself. As you opened up her suitcase, a piece of paper fluttered to the ground. You picked it up, reading the headline as you gasped quietly.
Things I love about Y/N
“Hey, have you seen my boots? They’re the-“
Carol stopped abruptly when she saw you with the gold edged stationary in your hand. She opened her mouth to explain, but struggled to piece the words together.
“What’s this?” You smiled. She laughed nervously, rushing over to grab it from your hands.
“I was-um-I was going to read it at the wedding...”
“So why didn’t you?”
“But I wanted it to be private, so I decided I was going to read it to you at the waterfall-“
“Aw, that’s sweet!”
“Well you found it, so, surprised ruined.” She mumbled nervously, fidgeting with the paper. You felt bad that you had ruined her romantic gesture.
“Well, can you read it now?”
Carol’s eyes widened and she cleared her throat.
“Yeah, uh, I guess I could.” She paused before reading the first item.
“I love it when you, Y/N, can read my mind when it’s too hard for me to speak. You make it easy for me to just be myself and not have to worry about filtering any words; I can always be open with you,” she looked up, gazing longingly.
“Second thing, I love you for that time when I was freezing, and you had told me to bring a coat and I didn’t, so even though I was too proud to admit you were right, you gave me your coat without saying ‘I told you so.’”
You nodded, bursting into laughter. That day seemed like forever ago.
“Another thing I love about you is how brave you are. No matter what we fight, you’re always on the side of goodness and fairness, and you have the courage to battle whatever comes your way. Even though you risk your life way too much,” she joked. It’s true. You had a habit of putting yourself at death’s door too often.
“The fourth thing is, I love how you remember every little detail people tell you, and never fail to give me the best presents for every holiday known to man,” Carol stared at the paper, only looking up so often to see the grin on your face.
“Fifth item, I love when we talk on the phone till sunrise, and don’t even realize it’s been hours,” Carol started to choke up, and she calmed herself. “See? Look what you do to me.”
You couldn’t stop the tears in your own eyes and brushed them away, rushing into her arms. She hugged you back tightly, pulling away to kiss your forehead fiercely.
“Can you save the other five for the waterfall? It won’t ruin the entire surprise,” you sniffled, fanning yourself to stop the tears.
Carol brushed a hair from your eyes. “Of course.”
And in that moment, Carol was happy that you were the person she was going to spend the rest of her life with.

Midnight Memories
Tumblr media
summary: The Avengers have always been parents to you-except Tony. Everyone thought you and Tony were never really that close. Until you share memories after his funeral that no one knew about.
warnings: Sadness. Maybe tears.
Numbness. That’s all you could feel after the funeral as you fell back onto the soft sofa, feeling your body sink into the cushions. You sat in the darkness of Tony’s house, hearing the faint chirping of crickets and a rush of wind blow by. The sky was a rich indigo color, just before turning black. You noticed the stars, and wondered if they were ever that bright before.
You didn’t cry during the funeral, and you didn’t know why. Maybe you weren’t actually listening to the eulogy and didn’t see the tears of those around you. You were too lost in your own head to even fully wrap your mind around what had happened. It never fully processed within you until they put the wreath in the lake and you saw Morgan cling tightly to Pepper, holding on to the little moments she had with her dad.
And then all of a sudden, your memories seemed to play like a movie. Your lip began to quiver as you clung to the sound of his voice inside your head, shutting your eyes tightly to go back in time, when everything was better. A single tear rolled down your cheek and you didn’t bother to wipe it away. Your breaths became hiccups, gasping quietly for air as the tears rolled down your cheeks one after the other.
You didn’t even notice the sound of footsteps approaching until a gentle hand grazed your shoulder. You spun around to see Steve’s face fall as he saw your bleary eyes. You didn’t have to explain yourself, because Steve knew. He always knew.
He sat next to you and immediately wrapped his arms around you, hearing the panicky rise and fall of your chest as you gasped for air, trying to keep the tears from falling. He rubbed your back and laid his chin on your head, sympathizing. You tried your best to keep it together from the moment Tony died, but you couldn’t bear to pretend anymore.
After a while, your breathing regulated and the tears dried, making your eyelids grow heavy. Steve kept an arm around you as you stared at the patterned carpet.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up,” you whispered. You hadn’t had water in forever, and it was evident from the pain in your throat.
“You didn’t. I haven’t slept in ages.” Steve reassured you, and you could tell from the weariness in his voice that he was being honest.
The both of you laid in silence for a few minutes after. If you had favorites, Steve was one of them. You were closer to him than most of the group. You weren’t sure if it was the peace you felt with him, or if it was the darkness of the night, but you found the courage to speak again.
“One time, when I was little, I woke up in the middle of the night screaming, and I had a cold sweat on my forehead.” Your voice shook slightly as you recalled what had happened. Steve’s face fell into a concerned expression as you continued.
“It was late at night, and you and Nat were on a mission. Thor was on Asgard, Bruce was off curing the world, and Clint was at his house. And I thought my greatest fear had finally happened-being alone in the dark.” You paused, gathering yourself before going on.
“I screamed and screamed. I cried, wondering where you were. You want to know who bolted through the door and immediately came to my bedside?” You asked, his name barely making its way past your lips before you felt the pain that came with it.
“Tony,” your voice broke. Steve’s eyes were now glassy as he watched you struggle to tell the story.
“I thought he was going to be mad at me for waking him up or interrupting him from his work. But he sat on the edge of my bed and hugged me so tightly. Tony and I rarely communicated before that. It was always ‘squirt’ and pats on the head. He stayed with me the entire night while I slept, until you got back in the morning.”
Steve was surprised. Tony had never mentioned this before.
“When you and everyone else went away again, and I couldn’t sleep, all I had to do was walk into his lab. He would see me, and he knew. He didn’t ask what was wrong, he just went on to teach me how to build things and kept me distracted. I would fall asleep in the lab and the next thing I knew, I was waking up in my own bed. No matter how old I was, he would always carry me back. ”
You desperately held onto Tony’s smile, and the laughs you shared. You repeated the same three words you thought when Tony took his last breath.
Please come back. Please come back. Please come back.
A final tear fell as you smiled, staring up at the sky. You were convinced the stars were Tony, or maybe that the stars were shining brightly just for him.
“He carried me every time.”

Okay but imagine: Tony’s daughter is best friends with Shuri and whenever they get together it’s pure chaos
okay I’m going to write a little blurb on this because Tony would lose his mind but also be insanely proud of his daughter
The two of you ran around, pulling out tools and pulling up blueprints for your current project. It looked like a hurricane had blown through the lab, papers and gadgets scattered everywhere. It almost mirrored the inside of both of your guys’ brains.
“But if we hardwire the mainframe-“
“We could do that, but that would just take longer. By rebooting the system and installing more features, the machine itself could-“
“You’re trying to make it look cooler.” You noted, eyeing Shuri’s design plans. A smile pulled at the edges of her lips.
“Not only that. We could get it running on self sustainable energy-“
“Which would be good for the environment AND give us the chance to create more like it.”
“Now we’re talking,” Shuri said excitedly. You both high-fived each other, gathering parts to start making the gadget.
“Guys, you were supposed to be helping me over here with the suit, you know, taking notes,” Tony called out, watching the both of you send sparks flying as your tools hit the machinery. You stepped back and Shuri laughed.
“Oops,” you shrugged, turning back to your work. Tony shook his head.
“I can’t believe I raised my daughter to be the mini me.”

Movie Night✨
Bucky x Reader
request: Hello! Can you do a bucky x reader story? I don’t really care what happens. Let your creative juices flow!! Maybe have some sweetness and cuddles though?
requested by: @tumblismytherapy
warnings: none!!
authors note: there were literally no gifs to go along with this story but we love a smiling Bucky and I love this story asfdjkl
Tumblr media
Today was the day. It was your monthly movie night with your favorite person on the planet.
In an excited, rushed state, you jumped onto the couch, not caring about the large bag of popcorn in your hands. Bucky walked through the house door seconds later, the exhaustion from a long day being wiped away at the sight of you on the couch, a giddy smile on your face.
Bucky walked over and a light smile lit up his features as he planted a kiss on your forehead. While you absentmindedly flipped through a list of movies, Bucky ran upstairs to take a quick shower before coming back down in his sleepwear. He crawled into the space next to you, wrapping both arms around your middle as you leaned backwards, relaxing yourself into his chest. He sighed, exhaling the stress of another day.
“Long day at work?” You asked quietly. You didn’t need confirmation to know that Bucky was in fact stressed, and you hoped your monthly movie night would fix that. You always got Bucky smiling when he needed it.
“You wouldn’t believe it.” Bucky mumbled, nestling his chin into the crook of your neck. He inhaled deeply, taking in your flowery scent that meant he was home. You continued to fly through movie options until the regular argument of which movie to watch occurred.
“We watched comedy last time!” You groaned, chucking the remote at him. He caught it instantly, ready to click on his movie choice.
“So you want to watch another 80s movie? Again?” Bucky’s voice was filled with annoyance, but he couldn’t help but crack a smile the way he always did when the two of you got into your usual bickering about movies.
“We’ll flip for it,” you decided, knowing it always came down to tossing when deciding on a movie. Bucky had the coin ready to go, calling his side.
“Tails never fails.”
“I thought you were smarter than that, Barnes.”
“Go ahead and be basic. Pick heads,” he raised an eyebrow.
“I was going to pick that anyways.”
Bucky tossed the coin in the air, flipping it when it had landed on his hand. You leaned over to see what it was.
“Yes!” Bucky exclaimed. You rolled your eyes, handing him back the remote.
“You cheated.”
“Like I said, tails never fails.” He gloated, pressing play to start the movie.
Bucky liked 21st Century humor more than you. At times when you didn’t even get the joke, he did and it had him chuckling lightly. The movie continued playing, but your eyelids slowly grew heavy. As you struggled to stay awake, you moved your head onto Bucky’s lap until before you knew it, you were sound asleep.
Bucky hadn’t noticed till the credits started rolling as he watched the peaceful rising and falling of your chest. He tucked a peace of hair behind your ear and gave you a small kiss on your temple. “I love you,” he whispered.
If his life were a movie, then you were the best part.
The End☺️

Bucky x Reader

“I’m a guinea pig, aren’t I?”
“No.”
“Oh, I am so you’re guinea pig.”
Bucky wasn’t wrong. He was, in fact, you’re test guinea pig. You had tried all different types of hairstyles on him. There were days where you dragged him into trying makeup products on his face, but those were times that were unspoken of. Sam would have a never ending laugh if he heard of those days.
“Okay, yes, you’re my guinea pig. But you’re helping me by letting me test stuff out on you, so thank you for that,” You said, pressing a quick kiss into his hair before playing with it. The two of you knew how much you loved his hair. You could spend hours upon hours doing all different sorts of buns and braids, and you didn’t hold your artistic abilities back when Bucky allowed you to work on it. There was just one rule: you couldn’t cut it. Ever.
Your tools, brushes, and dye were laid on a tray next to you. Bucky eyed the materials nervously. “Hey, um, Y/N, what are you doing with those?” He chuckled with uncertainty.
You took a step back, observing his hair and deciding what you wanted to do with it. “I’m going to try something new, if you don’t mind.”
“Depends on what it is. Are you going to turn me into a doll now?”
“Shut up, Barnes. I’m thinking,” you joked, walking to his front where he was sitting to examine his hair. You had a certain vision in mind, and hoped you could accomplish what you imagined.
Bucky smiled slightly at the sight of you in your zone. He knew how much you loved your work, and enjoyed spending whatever time he could with you.
“Alright. Let’s give this guinea pig something new.”
But Bucky loved his hair. He touched the ends of his it in fear, hoping it would still be there when you were done. He had all the faith in the world with you, but you always somehow managed to go out of his and your comfort zone with styles.
You got to work, wetting his hair and mixing the dye in a bowl. You hummed a slow song, one you and Bucky had danced to the other night in your house. You swayed a little while you took the brush and dipped it in the dye, laying the first strokes of color onto Bucky’s hair.
Bucky sang along with you silently when hearing the words to a song from long ago, the fear in his stomach easing. He felt the cold substance against his scalp at times as you massaged it into his hair, wondering what you were up to. You wanted to surprise him.
After a while of light talking and coloring, you pulled a plastic cap around his hair, not wanting the dye to get on his clothes.
“Okay. You’re going to wait until I tell you to take the cap off and then you’re going to take a shower and rinse it.”
Bucky nodded, watching you clear away the materials and throw them in the trash can. He looked in the mirror, hoping he could see the color you had chosen for him, but you were good about wiping away the excess from his face. You were watching him like a hawk a few feet away, catching him when he wanted to take a peek.
“It’s my hair!” Bucky groaned.
“And it’s my job! You’ll take it off soon, and then we’ll dry it,” You said. Bucky flopped down on the couch next to you and wrapped an arm around you, silently pouting. You laughed, wondering how this super soldier could also be such a big baby at the same time.
Another hour passed, and you had just finished drying his hair, wet from the shower. The color was now showing through, and Bucky was ready to snap from anticipation. You turned off the hair dryer and combed through his hair, biting your lip in a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
“You can look now.”
Bucky looked in the mirror, turning his head from side to side to see more. There was no expression on his face, no emotion crossing his features as he touched his hair, wondering if it was real.
His hair turned from a black to now, a dark navy blue, the roots of his hair still their natural color which somehow made the look cooler. He couldn’t stop his hands from roaming around his head, his eyes wide.
You pressed your hands against your face, wondering why he hadn’t spoken yet or why he looked so struck by the change. Your thoughts turned to the worst, knowing he didn’t enjoy the color.
“You hate it, don’t you?” You whispered, your eyes welling up with tears. Not because Bucky hated it, but because you should’ve known better than to mess with his hair color.
Bucky broke from his trance and turned from the mirror, facing you. “Hate it? No, darling, I don’t hate it.” He rushed over to you and hugged you tightly, resting his head on top of yours. “I love it, actually. I really do.”
You looked up at him, knowing he was being sincere. “Then why did you look so shocked after seeing it?”
“Well, it’s not every day that my hair color matched your dress.”
“My dress? What does-“
“You don’t remember?” Bucky asked softly. He looked down at you, his glassy blue eyes giving off a lovesick glow. You shook your head, and his small smile returned.
“You were wearing a dark navy blue dress on September 26, 2018, our fifth date, I’m pretty sure, when I realized I was in love with you,” Bucky murmured. You were taken back by his astounding recollection of the details and let out a breath of disbelief.
“I just got caught up in the moment, Y/N. You know how much I like my hair, and it’s even better now,” he kissed your forehead lightly and you laid your head against his chest, hearing the faint sound of his heartbeat.
The two of you had now found your favorite color.

Growing Up-Part Two✨
(Steve x Reader)
(Tony!Dad x Reader)
warnings: SWEETNESS, GOOD FRIENDS, OVERPROTECTIVE IRON DAD
Tumblr media
“This is stupid.”
You dusted off your hands and pushed yourself up from the mat, sighing in annoyance. Sweat trickled down your forehead as you raised your fists once more, crouching down in a fighting position. Steve was training you for your upcoming mission with the team, although you saw no need for a combat session.
“It’s not stupid. It’s useful,” Steve objected. He took a swig of water from his steel blue bottle and placed it down gently on the bench. He stepped back onto the mat, eyeing you with a smirk. It was just enough to make your mind race millions of miles per hour.
“Why should I be learning to fight if I’m going to be spending my time on the mission hacking computers and using coding?” You whined.
Although you saw no use for these lessons, you were secretly thrilled that Steve had been the one to offer to teach you. You had barely made it through your last interaction with him, and wanted to show that you weren’t just Tony’s daughter who knew the ins and outs of technology. You wanted to be more than the daughter of Steve’s best friend who your dad said was strictly off limits. Tony hadn’t prohibited your crush on his friend, but he certainly wasn’t approving of it.
Steve gave you a look. “In case you run into any trouble, you can use this training when you need it. Start with a stance,” Steve ordered with a straight face, although you could see the ends of his lips twitching, trying to keep from smiling.
He didn’t think of you as Tony’s daughter. To Steve, you were much more than that. You were the girl who spent hours upon hours in labs, your intelligence and kind manner spiking an interest in Steve’s heart. He couldn’t believe when you argued with Tony about who was right and who was wrong, knowing your intricate, beautiful mind held everything great about you. You weren’t arrogant or too confident, and you had a habit of always making sure everyone was okay, and somehow knowing when another person wasn’t. You joked about having a “sixth sense”; being able to detect what was wrong with a person with just a simple look. You were compassionate and hard-working, and always got Steve to smile when he was a little too stressed or serious. Everything about you made Steve wish he could be with you.
But then there was the fact that you were still Tony’s daughter, although he preferred not to think of you as that.
“Like this?” You asked, raising your fists and straightening your posture. You leaned your head to the side, a repetitive motion you did when asking a question.
Steve examined you, although he wasn’t looking at your stance. He saw how you pulled your hair into a ponytail, but strands always seemed to escape and frame your facial features. He saw the soft glow of your eyes in the fading sunlight and the rosiness of your cheeks from a long day of practicing. His heart warmed at the sight of you, tired but persevering like always.
“Steve?” You called out his name softly, a gentle smile playing on your lips when you noticed he had been staring a tad bit too long. It broke his trance and he cleared his throat, trying to get over the blush that crept onto his cheeks.
“Um-eh-it’s actually like this.”
Steve walked over, standing behind you. He wrapped his arms around you and moved your fists to their appropriate place. His body was pressed against yours as he moved your stiff limbs, your breath stopping at the feeling of him against you. You silently hoped he couldn’t feel your heartbeat just then, because it was going insane.
Steve could, in fact, feel your heartbeat, and bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing. He thought that this was just another hopeless crush of his, and was glad to see that part of you felt the same way.
His eyes were intensely focused on your fists as his face brushed against yours in an attempt to adjust your hands. Your skin tingled at the contact, a mild blush heating up your cheeks as well.
“So..am I a super soldier now or-“
You turned your head towards Steve, not knowing how close the two of you were. His face barely touching yours as your words stuck in your throat, feeling his slow breathing on your skin. His mouth hung open a bit as he gazed deeply into your eyes, unsure how to respond-if he could even respond when his heart started to beat rapidly too.
The two of you leaned in, closing the small distance-
The door swung open with a bang as Tony burst in, appalled at the sight.
“When I asked for someone to give Y/N lessons, Cap, they didn’t involve mouth to mouth resuscitation. What on earth do you think you’re doing with my daughter?” Tony shouted, furious. You stepped forward to speak up to your dad, but Steve protectively put an arm out, holding you back.
“Tony, let me explain-“
“So, you want to explain how close you were to KISSING MY DAUGHTER JUST NOW, STEVE? WHAT ON EARTH-“
“Dad!” You yelled, hoping Tony’s anger would be spared for Steve and given to you instead.
“Y/N…” Your father’s voice trailed off, a mixture of disappointment and fatigue in his tone. “You’re incredibly smart. I thought when you told me you liked Steve, you would at least not act on it. I expected so much more from you,” Tony admitted.
“I will speak with you later. I want to talk to Steve.” Tony’s voice hardened. You knew it was best if you left, taking one last apologetic look at Steve before dashing out the door.
“I can’t believe you. Going after Y/N? My daughter?” Tony argued. Steve paced, trying to clear his head.
“Tony-“
“No. You don’t get to stand here and apologize, and then I forgive you with conditions and everything goes back to normal,” Tony spat, watching Steve’s stressed state. He groaned, slapping a palm to his forehead. “You really like her, don’t you?”
Steve inhaled deeply, racking his head for an answer. Of course he liked you. He spent every minute trying to convince himself he didn’t, but when it came down to all of the little moments he shared with you, he knew that there was a flame there he hadn’t felt in ages.
Steve nodded boldly. “Yes. You may hate me for saying it, Tony, but I cannot help but like Y/N. I’m going to spare you the details, but, the way she makes me feel, Tony? I’ve never been more myself than when I’m with her. She makes me incredibly happy, and I respect you but I want to be with Y/N, and I’m not looking for your acceptance here. I’ll do what it takes to be with her.”
Tony rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. He paused for a few seconds, hundreds of thoughts filling his brain. “Okay, you’ve got guts, Cap. You do know what you’ve got coming for you, right?”
Steve couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. “Yeah, you’re going to give me a really hard time for this, aren’t you?”
A few hours later, a quiet knock came from your door. You were hoping it was Tony, coming back to reason with you after blowing off steam. Instead, Wanda opened the door, poking her head in to see if you wanted her presence. All it took was a nod from you to send her rushing over to your bedside, sitting across from you as she took your hand in hers.
“I’m sorry. When Tony said he wanted someone to give you training, I was the one that told Steve he should do it and that you had asked for him. This is all my fault,” Wanda’s pained expression said more than enough for you to hug her.
You shook your head. “It’s not your fault. You knew how much I liked Steve, and you were just trying to help out.”
Wanda pulled away, her face turning into excitement. “So, how was the session?” She asked, leaning in with anxiousness. You grinned widely.
“Wanda, I might be crazy, or stupid, but, I think he likes me back. I could feel it, right before we almost kissed-“
“YOU ALMOST KISSED?” Wanda echoed in shock. You pressed a finger to your lips, shushing her.
“Yeah, almost, right before we did then my dad walked in-“
“No! Get out!” Wanda exclaimed in disbelief. “I can’t believe Tony walked in right before your big moment. What a romance ruiner. No offense,” Wanda said sheepishly, not wanting to upset you.
You huffed in annoyance. “I know. I can’t believe it either. I know that he’s just trying to be my dad, but I just want to have something great happen to me that isn’t an award or because of what my dad’s done for me. I’m not just Tony Stark’s daughter, and I think Steve saw me as more. And it felt…”
“Good?” Wanda completed your sentence. You nodded sadly. “Well, what’s going to happen now?”
A harsher knock echoed at your door. The two of you looked at each other knowingly. “Well, I guess we’re about to find out,” you said.
You followed your dad silently to the training room where Steve was waiting, hands buried in the pockets of his pants. His eyes met yours for a moment, and a small flicker of happiness flowed inside both of you. Tony snapped, breaking the stare.
“I’ve talked to Steve, Y/N, and…”
An uneasy feeling twisted in your stomach. The pause made you sick with worry.
“I just don’t think it’s best.” Tony sighed.
Your heart sank. Steve’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Tony you said-“
“Ah, let me finish.” Tony put a hand in the air, drawing attention from the both of you.
“I just don’t think it’s best…for me to come between the two of you.” Tony gave a defeated smile, but a smile nonetheless.
You laughed a little in disbelief, looking over at Steve. He rushed over to you, picking you up in his arms and spinning you around in joy. Tony gagged, uncomfortable with the sight.
“You treat her well, Rogers. I will not hesitate to get into a fight if she ever sheds a tear because of you-“
“Dad,” you pleaded in embarrassment.
“I’m not done, Y/N. There will absolutely be rules. Tons. But they’re all to ensure that my daughter is safe, and that Steve isn’t an idiot. Other than that, go ahead and fall in love. The two of you deserve it.” Now Tony was the one who couldn’t hide the happiness in his voice.
Steve had his arms around your waist, with yours locked around his neck. The two of you smiled with glee, leaning in to seize the moment. Your lips brushed against his-
“HEY! THERE WILL BE NONE OF THAT!”
“DAD!”
The End☺️

Sleepless Nights✨
Bucky x Reader
warnings: FLUFFITY FLUFF i’m a sucker for sweetness
Tumblr media
Hot.
It was too hot, you decided, ripping the blanket away from your body as you turned once more to the other side of your bed. Darkness enveloped you as your eyes burned from exhaustion, but your mind ran at millions of miles per hour. You mentally slapped yourself, wondering why your head just couldn’t shut up and how you couldn’t fade into a deep sleep. You tried everything from counting sheep to singing songs in your head, but nothing worked as you tried to stop the dreams that always snaked their way into your mind during the nights you managed to get some rest. You turned on the fan, shutting it off again when it grew cold, no remedy prevailing.
You shoved a pillow onto your face, begging yourself to sleep. As you laid there for a couple minutes, you sighed in aggravation, knowing all of your attempts were completely useless with it being past midnight already and no luck. You threw the pillow to the side and sat up, rubbing your eyes as if there was any sleep there anyways. You ran a hand through your hair, trudging off to the kitchen for a late night snack. If there was one thing that could fix this episode of the usual nightmares, it would be food.
You opened the cabinets in the kitchen of the Avengers compound, wondering how in the world there were no sweets or chips lying around. This is what I get for being apart of Earth’s best defenders, you joked to yourself, opening the refrigerator door, inspecting the contents in the freezer.
The sound of footsteps padding against the hardwood floors was a soft, gentle noise as a certain someone made their way over to the fridge as well. As you continued to observe the fridge’s items, oblivious to the presence of another person in the room, a body brushed against yours.
You jumped up in fright, hitting your head on the edge of the refrigerator. The darkness of the kitchen made it hard for you to identify who it was.
“Y/N, it’s just me, Bucky,” he whispered. You breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Why are you up so late, Barnes?” You whined in a hushed tone. You rubbed your eyes once more in annoyance, the scene from just moments earlier washing over you with a wave of embarrassment. Bucky chuckled softly, reaching past you for the milk carton, pouring himself a glass. “I could say the same for you.”
You rolled your eyes, turning your attention back to the fridge, sticking your head in. Although you and Bucky shared a close, intimate friendship and had been there for each other through everything, it still ashamed you to admit small things.
“I can’t sleep,” you muttered, looking for nothing in particular. Bucky watched you as you closed the refrigerator door, leaning back against it in a defeated condition. He admitted to himself that it was always hard for him to keep his eyes off of you as he examined your sleepless state, your hair pulled back although strands curved around your facial features. Even in the dark of night, your eyes gave off a soft glimmer that had Bucky lost in a trance.
“Yeah, neither can I,” Bucky admitted, his fingers grazing the edge of the cup. There was an unspoken, mutual feeling between the two of you as you both recalled the nightmares and visions that kept you up on nights like this. The two of you had seen too much to get any sleep nowadays, and the rare occasions that you drifted off never lasted long. It was comforting in a way and provided a temporary peace, knowing that someone understood a sliver of what it was like.
Now, it was your turn to watch Bucky as he stared at the table in front of him. He had a typical black shirt that clung to his figure, showing off his build and blue plaid flannel pants that hung to his hips. Bucky was always a quiet, contemplative soul, but you knew there was more to him than what met the eyes. There were parts of him that were stolen and though they couldn’t be replaced, you were always looking for a way to bring him new parts. To bring that old self to light even though that wasn’t him.
Anymore.
“You know what bothers me, Buck?” You asked, a smile twitching at the corners of your lips as you tried to forget the memories that burned your mind on these evenings.
“What?” Bucky asked, drawn to the gentle and sweet sound of your voice. Even when you yelled or delivered orders, your tone never failed to make Bucky’s heart flutter.
“How they have no good food in this place whatsoever,” you said in fake disbelief. Your comment broke Bucky’s frown into a wide smile as he shook his head, wondering how you could still joke after all this time. He certainly thought he had lost the ability to do so.
“Well, we should do something about that. Tomorrow,” Bucky suggested, the heat rising up into his cheeks. He had liked you- heck, loved you- for the longest time and wasn’t willing to sit back on his feelings any longer. You knew him better than anyone, actually understanding a small part of his haunted past and yet you cared for him like you would with anyone else.
Your mouth dropped open a bit as your palms grew sweaty. You panicked, not knowing how to deal with yourself. “I-I should probably head to bed now,” you nodded, silently kicking yourself for the awkward tension you had just managed to create between your best friend and you. You thought you had a pretty good thing going on with Bucky, and that invitation could ruin it all.
Bucky’s heart sank as you retreated back to your room, exhaling a breath of disappointment that was supposed to be joy, if you had accepted instead. He also mentally kicked himself for ever believing the two of you could have something, and hated himself for seeing the signals and signs that he thought were clear, but just ended up being blurry instead. He carried his cup back to his room, sadly shutting the door behind him.
There was no chance you were sleeping now.
You tossed and turned, moving every second as his words replayed through your mind over and over again. Was that what you thought it was? A date? Maybe you had read the signs incorrectly. Maybe you wanted it to happen so badly that you had just read signs where there weren’t any. You were beyond angry with the way you had just left, now knowing there was the silent rejection you had given him when you awkwardly scurried to your room. You liked him, so why couldn’t you act natural? Why ruin the relationship you had secretly waited so long to have?
Wait.
Liked.
Relationship.
You. Liked. Bucky.
You had ignored it for too long. When breath seemed short when he was near, when you smiled like an idiot when he managed to give you a small smile back, when he made a smart remark that always led you to shove him, you always squashed down those feelings, scared of what could happen if you acted on them. And now, that Bucky had reached out to you, feeling the same way you felt, you ran in the opposite direction.
You scrambled out of bed, releasing the hair tie from your head and smoothed back your hair, inhaling confidence. Even if you had read the signs incorrectly, you wanted to at least die of embarrassment trying.
You were going to run in his direction this time.
You swung open your door to find Bucky standing there with a stricken, dumbfounded expression as soon as he saw you. He seemed to be having a conversation with himself as he waited outside your door, trying to prepare himself.
It seemed that he was going to die trying too.
“Bucky?”
“Y/N?”
“What are you doing outside my room?” You asked. You knew why. You just hoped he would say it out loud. You prayed that you were right.
“Um…well-I-“
“Actually, Buck, I wanted to tell you something.” You bit your lip, the sound of your heartbeat drumming in your ears.
“I wanted to too.” Bucky mumbled, forcing himself to gaze into your eyes. Even at night, he couldn’t help but find himself weak as he stared at your glow in the moonlight.
“Well-“
“Uh-“
“Stay with me tonight.” The two of you spoke simultaneously, starting and finishing in unison. No words escaped either of your lips as you tried to comprehend the others message, hearts swelling at the thought of the other feeling the same way.
Before you knew it, Bucky had his lips pressed against yours, softly and sweetly, smiling in between breaths. He hadn’t felt so light in ages, but when he connected with you, a new part of him finally made its way to the light, and it was a part of him he never wanted to lose.
You pulled your door wide open, letting him in. He crawled onto your bed and moments later you fell into his arms perfectly, not saying a word. The two of you laid together peacefully for hours, drifting off into a perfect sleep.
If it took a sleepless night filled with nightmares to bring you two together, it was worth it.

IM PROUD OF THE ENDING YEAHHHH
Tumblr media
Alexander Pierce was alive.
And he was coming for you and Bucky.
You blinked rapidly, your mouth struggling to form words. You leaned against one of the tables for support, finding it hard to look Bucky in the eye.
You thought you were a fool for ever believing you could fully escape HYDRA, knowing they would eventually come. You had said it yourself two years ago, crying when you first met Steve.
You weren’t going to cry anymore.
Even with the pain, the distant and dull thud of your heartbeat flooded your ears when you had to sit in those chairs and have your memory wiped, remembering every hit in the face when you were inches away from remembering something they didn’t want you to remember. Even when they forced you to kill and cause terror, and even when they tore Bucky away from you, you survived. You were done being afraid, because now, you had found yourself again.
And you were done hiding it.
Bucky had finally managed a normal breathing habit again as he watched you, lost in a far off land, surrounded in memories. Even in a state of distress, it amazed him how calm you were. That was the thing about you. Through it all these past two years, you had a quiet, collected strength that made you beautiful. And it wowed Bucky everyday, causing him to have to remember how to act when you walked in a room.
“If Pierce wants us, then that’s what we’ll give him.” You said firmly, ripping off your lab coat and dashing into another room. Bucky followed, watching as you grabbed a large loaded gun and stepped back into a normal pace alongside him.
“Are you sure you really want to do this, Y/N?” Bucky asked uneasily. It had been a while since you were in combat, and he knew how fighting was the last thing you wanted to do, even though you were more than capable of fighting off a couple guys at once.
You could sense the doubt in Bucky’s tone, knowing he had your best interest and didn’t want to see you fall after all of the work you had done trying to repair your life these past few years. A flicker of nervousness pinched at your chest, but you pressed your lips together firmly and sauntered off without Bucky.
“After all we had to deal with with HYDRA, we’re still here. And that’s for a reason. And if Pierce is here, waiting, then maybe this is the reason we made it through it all. So I’d really like to take him down, if you don’t mind.” You called out, hearing Bucky run to catch up with you. He chuckled, his heart soaring with how independent and daring you could be at times.
As the two of you made your way to the scene, you could already hear the gunshots and grunting of people as you made your way out of the compound and into the open. Steve had said they were planning a city’s fall, but really, you all knew they just wanted to end the Avengers. Before you could reach the outside, the two of you were running down one of the long, dimly lit corridors that apparently had shut down in emergency protocol.
Both of your guys’ footsteps came to a halt, looking for a way out with hardly enough light to see a path. It was like all of the cliche horror movies you had watched with Bucky on nights when the two of you got bored. You grumbled, silently cursing Tony for building this hallway with a dead end.
Then, the men poured into the area, about twenty HYDRA agents filing in behind their infamous leader, Alexander Pierce. The way he strode into the hall, a head held high and the sick scent of his cologne twisting your stomach into knots like it always had when he came to talk to you. Bucky hadn’t seen the man in years, but his jaw still clenched with hatred as he held a tighter grip on his gun. He shook for a second, trying to compose himself as he faced his biggest nightmare.
“Well, if it isn’t my soldiers,” Pierce spoke with a sickly sweet tone, faking the kindness with every word. “I’m glad you two met. You guys were quite the pair back then, and you’re just making this easier.” He shrugged carelessly. The soldiers behind him were armed. Unusually, not with guns, but other small knives.
The two of you eyed Pierce with intensity, specifically you staring at him boldly. He came closer, pausing between steps to observe you both.
“Back when The Winter Soldier failed his mission, I sent you, Soldier, to do what he couldn’t. You were stronger and had more abilities than I could count. You were everything HYDRA needed, a full body when we thought we only had the fist.” Pierce formed his own hand into one. “Then we hear news that you went off the grid as well. But you-you failed!” Pierce’s voice rose, pointing a finger at you.
“You failed your mission after everything we put inside of you, everything we gave you to make you who you are and you threw it all away for this. For him,” Alexander acknowledged Bucky, the word “him” being said with disgust. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Did he think you should’ve been thankful? Grateful for what they did to you? You shook your head subtly.
“So should I be giving you a thank-you card right now? Is that what you want after everything you did to Bucky and me?” You asked incredulously. You had never talked to Pierce before out of fear, but you couldn’t help the words that spilled out.
“You ripped me away from everyone and everything I knew, you slapped me and forced me to kill others, and made me forget what it was like to be considered a person. So why on earth should I be grateful for the crap you made us go through?” You screamed, the burdens that your body carried finally being lifted away. You had found your voice, and it wouldn’t be silenced any longer. Pierce was now standing just a foot away from the both of you, his eyes giving off a dangerous glint.
“You had a chance to change the world, to bring order into chaos where populations would thrive-“
You couldn’t stop yourself as you pulled out a punch sending Pierce falling to the ground.
“Damn.” Bucky whispered, wondering how you could still amaze him with a new feature of yourself everyday, even at a time like this.
Pierce covered his face as he struggled to find balance, eventually pulling himself up. He was steaming, the anger boiling to the brim. Alexander looked back and forth between you and his twenty soldiers, still clutching his nose to try to stop the blood. You could sense the fight that was brewing and prepared yourself, knowing what you had to do as Pierce walked to the back line of his troops.
“I love you,” you breathed out. Bucky’s stormy blue eyes widened with surprise, even though he wasn’t looking at you. “I know that this is really bad timing, but I just wanted to say that in case something happened-“
You cut yourself off when you felt Bucky reach for your hand and give it a gentle squeeze, eventually turning into a tight grip. Bucky smiled to himself, knowing he had to make it out of this fight for the ending he always wanted but never thought he could have.
“I was going to offer you a peace treaty, but now I’m just...mad.” Pierce shouted from the back. You slid your hand from Bucky’s and offered your gun to him as Bucky gave you a questionable look when he took the weapon from your hands.
“You’re going to need it.” You mouthed, extending your arms as you allowed the golden light to fill the space between, strength and energy coursing through you. Just like Wanda, you thought. Except, she was still better at it.
“Okay I’ve had enough of this. Kill them.” Pierce ordered.
And with that, the fight began.
The soldiers came charging as you did your best to fend them off, throwing orbs of light and moving small groups or individuals and throwing them out a glass window on the other far end of the hall, or crashing them into the ceiling. When a soldier got two close to Bucky you multitasked, throwing and creating a shield for Bucky. It didn’t take long for the number of troops to dwindle, with six of the best being the only ones left.
They knew every tactic and somehow knew your weak spots, punching until you stumbled back from such a hard force. Even though you couldn’t catch your breath and the familiar taste of blood withdrew your focus, you remained strong in the fight. Head butting one of the soldiers and using him to kick the other one, a move you learned from Natasha, they eventually collapsed on the ground.
Bucky gave you a quick glance, a look that said he could handle the other four as you raced over to Pierce. He had a pistol aimed and pulled the trigger. You caught the bullet inches before it came into contact with your shoulder using your powers and threw it back, missing Pierce. More shots fired but none of them hit a target as you managed to pry the gun from his hands, throwing it as far as you could. Then, Pierce was throwing his own punches, dodging with a speed you didn’t know he had. There were a few times you thought he had you down, but you always found a way out with a quick move. This was too easy, you said to yourself, turning around for just a second to check on Bucky. Why was this so-
An agonizing pain slashed through your right leg, causing you to fall to the ground. You clutched your calf, watching the blood slowly trickle to the ground. You tried to pull yourself up, but Pierce was fast, grazing your side near your rib cage with his knife. You grit your teeth, refusing to make a sound. The blistering pain that rang through your body made the world spin and voices became foggy. A sharp pain shot through your body when Pierce pinned you to the ground, his face inches from yours. You tried to ignore the intense throbbing by looking Pierce in the eyes, telling him you were not going to give up.
“You thought you could end me?” He said through gritted teeth of his own. His hot breath made your skin crawl, pulling your face away from the close contact. “You could’ve brought life to a new government. We could’ve ruled the world without all of the threats if you had been smart enough to listen. The only end you’re bringing is yours. You won’t kill me,” Pierce said slowly, the edge of his knife cutting into your chin.
The sounds of fighting in the background were nonexistent. A smirk played on your face as Pierce’s eyes filled with confusion. “You’re right. I won’t kill you.” You said casually.
“He will.”
You saved your last bit of strength and moved out of the way as the gunshots echoed in the dark hall. Bucky had been waiting for your signal, although it was unplanned.
“I’ve been waiting to do that.”
Bucky tossed his gun to the side and ran over to you, helping you get up as you struggled to walk. He spoke into his coms, asking for help in the hall. “We’re going to need a clean-up crew too,” Bucky said, his eyes drifting to the unconscious bodies on the floor. When he saw the gash in your leg and side, Bucky didn’t speak as he carried you out, rushing you to the lab where Bruce paced back and forth with anxiety etched into his features. His eyes fell on the both of you and immediately put you on a bed, readying his supplies for your wounds. Bruce worked quickly, cleaning and stitching as he talked to you softly, a relieved smile glowing on his face.
After Bruce was done, he let the two of you have the room to yourselves as he went out to look for the others. You motioned for Bucky to come sit next to you on the bed since he kept his distance while Bruce had been working and nervously twisted his hair. He sat at your bedside and took your hand in his, putting another hand over yours.
“So...you love me?” Bucky’s eyes sparkled with joy, a tearful smile widening on his lips. You grinned playfully. “I only said that in the moment because I thought we were going to die.”
Bucky’s face fell and he pulled his hand away. A cloud formed over his features as he cleared his throat. “Oh.”
A laugh burst out of you, rocking your entire body. Bucky stared at you in shock, laughing uneasily.
“Of course I meant it, Bucky! I really do love you,” you admitted, reaching out to put a gentle hand to his face. He warmed up under your touch.
The both of you had had voices in your minds, good, bad, and ugly ones. You had ignored the voice that said you had feelings, a love for each other that outweighed the torture and forgetful states. A voice inside both of you had brought you together, and every little voice gave the two of you perseverance to hold on. Together.
“Well, Y/N, I love you too.”

summary: you were a test subject for HYDRA. After being sent on a mission as nothing more than a murderer, a certain someone shows you the light.
AUTHORS NOTE: hope you’re enjoying this series!! in this chapter, Steve’s a little bit cocky and arrogant BUT I LOVE HIM OKAY it’s just for the sake of the story haha I’m sorry I don’t want to murder his character
warnings: none
Tumblr media
“I told you I didn’t want this.”
“Come on! Just blow it out...please?” Bucky pleaded like a six year-old, holding the cupcake in front of your face. From the flame of the hot pink candle, his eyes lit up and a goofy grin pulled at the edges of his lips.
The two of you, especially you, had come a long way since the day you decided to escape HYDRA and try to readapt to the world. The past two years had been spent trying to rediscover who you were, and who you are now. The years had been exhausting but fulfilling, learning the full extent of what you could do with all of the powers and strengths you had, and expunging the traces of HYDRA that had left a mark on you. You were your own person now, and Bucky had kept his promise, never leaving your side through it all.
Deciding you didn’t want to fight anymore, you worked more behind the scenes with Bruce, becoming a team doctor since you enjoyed the lab and science. Your proved yourself to be smart and capable, but it took a while before everyone warmed up to you, some still not even considering you as an acquaintance. You knew that Wanda, especially after what you had done, would take a long time, and you weren’t expecting her to forgive you anytime soon. The others kept their distance, unsure of how you would act. You convinced yourself they were just looking out for themselves, but after a while, their exclusion began to hurt. It wasn’t until you had saved Sam and Tony’s lives on a mission that they eventually became somewhat of a family to you.
Bucky snapped you of out of your trance as he waved the cupcake under your nose once more. Today you were celebrating two years of becoming yourself and finding a place in the world where you thought you had none. You couldn’t have done it without Bucky and your heart paused just thinking about your time with him. You were just getting to know the world again and rediscovering your life and didn’t want a relationship. You wanted to grow individually before attaching yourself to someone but, Bucky was the reason you had taken a leap of faith in the first place. And you couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to be with him.
“Hello? Are you going to make a wish? The wax is melting and that would be awful to eat.” Bucky joked. The two of you became more open and spent most days together, becoming inseparable and seeing sides of each other you didn’t think they had. You closed your eyes and gently put out the flame with a breath, hoping your wish would come true soon.
“I was thinking we could do something today, just you and me.” You suggested, biting your lip nervously. You had found yourself and uncovered memories that helped you develop. Now, it was your time to form new memories with the person you couldn’t get enough of. For the first time in a long time, you couldn’t be happier with life. Bucky nodded, examining your shy state.
“Hey, I hate to break up the love fest, but we need both of you,” Sam smirked. He and the others were constantly pushing the idea of the two of you together. They thought that the hours, months, and days of being with each other obviously had to mean there was something there. Bucky rolled his eyes as the two of you followed Sam to the mission room where Steve was about to give a briefing.
It was no surprise that everyone’s heads turned in your direction when the two of you walked in together, a chorus of “of course we’re waiting for them” and “look who’s here” greeting you both. Your cheeks burnt with embarrassment as you brushed off the comments and tried to focus on Steve.
“Eyes up, guys. Now in the past years we’ve had a lot of success bringing down HYDRA’s labs and bases. It’s been almost too easy...”
Steve continued to talk as chills ran through your body. HYDRA’s toxicity may have not been apart of you anymore, but just hearing it’s name still took a toll on you. Your shaking became noticeable, and Bucky understood as he put a comforting arm around you. You settled into his arm, trying to calm yourself.
“The word is they’re launching something big. An attack most likely on a city. It should be an easy sweep in, take them out, come back,” Steve stated simply, brushing off HYDRA like dust on his shoulder. You scoffed loudly, drawing people’s attention to you. You shrunk farther into Bucky’s arms, hating the stares that came your way.
“Is there something you wanted to share, Y/N?” You had started to let people call you by your name after a couple weeks, settling back into what you wanted to be “normal”.
“You said it was something big. But your plan of attack was nonchalant, like you’re not worried it’s going to take that long. How is that possible?” You objected. Rhodey raised his eyebrows and Tony smirked, impressed with your defiance.
“Y/N, it’s just the same old routine on a bigger scale. It’s nothing we haven’t done before. Unless, you want to join in?” Steve offered. Natasha’s mouth dropped open slightly, eyeing the obvious tension brewing between the two of you. No one really countered Cap’s orders.
“Steve, you know I gave up fighting.”
“Okay. Well if we get in trouble,” Steve put air quotes around the word “trouble”, “I’ll know who to call.”
His arrogance made you simmer, but instead of launching into an argument with how the team needed to be better prepared for this “big” mission if it was more dangerous, you shut your mouth and allowed him to carry on with everybody’s assignments.
“Well, I think that’s all. We have an hour till we need to-“
A loud crash sounded in the distance followed by more thunderous blares and noises. All heads turned to Steve.
“I don’t think we have an hour, Cap.” You said smugly. Steve grimaced as everyone rushed for their suits and weapons, the entire place turning into a panic zone.
“They might need me, kid. Can you handle yourself?” Bruce asked, concern twinkling in his eyes. Bruce was one of the first people to welcome you to the compound and he thought of you as a close friend. You gave him a comforting smile.
“I’ll be fine. You go.” With that Bruce ran toward the exit and you could hear the Hulk’s roar not far off. Like most days, the lab was quiet as you worked, pulling up holographic images and surveying everyone’s vitals while they fought. You began to prepare gauzes and ice packs, pulling out antibacterial ointments and everything else you needed before they come back, bloody and bruised.
About half an hour had passed before the storm of boots and shallow breathing came crashing in. Your head snapped up from the screen you were observing and Bucky clutched his side and winced. With all of your patients, you were calm and collected, healing them with quietness. But whenever Bucky came in wounded, your breath caught in your throat and you barely remembered any of your training as your mind prepared for the worst.
You immediately got up and ran over, putting Bucky’s arm around you as you attempted to help him shift his weight onto you. He choked on his words as you interrogated him, asking where it hurt and what had happened.
“It’s-“ His words flew out, but none of them carried any meaning as he tried to catch his breath. He fell against one of the beds, breathing in and out. When he finally spoke, he used a quiet, emotionless tone.
“You need to suit up.”
Your brow furrowed, disagreeing with his words. “No, I’m not. I gave all of that up a while ago and I’m not fighting just because it’s HYDRA-“
“-It’s Alexander Pierce. He’s alive.”
Your mouth shut in disbelief, you’re heart sinking through the floor. The medical tool you were prepared to use on Bucky clattered to the floor as you stood frozen from Bucky’s news. All of the torture and games Alexander Pierce had played with you flooded your mind, even though those memories didn’t hold the haunting terror that they used to.
“He’s looking for me.” Bucky gulped.
“And you.”

Bucky x Reader
requested by: @thunderstormsandsugar
summary: you are a test subject for HYDRA. After being sent on a mission as nothing more than a murderer, a certain someone shows you the light.
WARNINGS: cursing, mentions of death and killing, sadness:(
Tumblr media
Your eyes fluttered open, a wave of nausea and dizziness rolling in. It took a while for the room to stop spinning, and your vision found its focus when the bright lights and one way mirror showed your wrecked, tired state.
You shot up from your chair and were immediately pushed backward, eyeing the metal restraints around your wrists and forearms. You resisted, pulling with all of your strength to be free, but it did not avail as your breath became short. You were tired of being locked up, caged to machinery like an animal in a zoo. You wanted to walk without guards surrounding you or the constant examination from scientists who claimed you were the future.
You wanted to be free.
But you were so, so tired of it all.
You couldn’t tell how much time had passed as you sat there, staring off into space, hearing the low hum of air conditioning while the lights continued to burn your eyes. All you wanted to do was rub them and provide some relief to your sores and splitting headache.
Memories flooded into your mind. Some from your most recent mission against the Avengers in Budapest, but also some abnormal, foreign memories that seemed to belong to someone else, except with each memory, as your reflection stared back, it was your body. Your voice that seemed so far gone. Who was the person that laughed and drank strange drinks and walked freely along coastlines? How had this person taken your body and done everything you wanted and couldn’t imagine?
Who were they?
Who were you?
You swallowed the terror in your throat, shutting your eyes tightly to keep the fear from engulfing your body. Why did these memories seem so familiar, yet foggy and distant at the same time? You were angry with yourself. How could you not remember anything about your life? How could you not remember even the basic parts-like your name?
Y/N, you thought to yourself. The way that man paused before knocking you out, a mixture of disbelief and heartache covering his features. He had said, “Y/N?” Was that your name? It must’ve been if he called you it.
The slow creaking of the door opening sounded someone’s arrival. You glanced up, hoping it would be the man who had called you that strange name earlier, wondering if you could get any information from him.
Instead, it was another man with blonde hair, tall and broad shouldered. His face was grim but held a softness as he crossed over to where you were restrained. He had opened his mouth multiple times but no words escaped, wondering how to start his sentences.
“I’m sorry.” You croaked, the sound of your voice without water and unused for as long as you could remember was evident. You had never apologized before, but your chest felt heavy with burdens kept there for what seemed like years. You couldn’t bear to look at the man, keeping your eyes on the mirror, hoping the other girl you had traumatized, the one with powers like yours was standing on the opposite side of that mirror. You hoped your apology could wipe away even a quarter of the pain you had caused.
“I’m Steve. Steve Rogers,” the man said as he pulled up a chair in front of you, taking a seat just a few inches away. You refused to look at him, knowing he would just have the face of all the other victims you had taken from. They all looked the same after a while.
“You know they’re going to come for me, right?” Your voice remained hoarse as tears welled up in your eyes, knowing that these people were the ones you were sent to kill. You had failed the mission. The nervousness in your stomach was a testament that you knew what happened when a soldier failed a mission. Especially when you failed HYDRA.
Steve’s heartstrings couldn’t help but be pulled at the obvious panic in your tone, knowing because of Bucky what you were so scared of going back to.
“Let me go in. I know her and I actually understand the hell HYDRA’s putting her through. I should be the one in there,” Bucky pleaded, his hands pressed against the glass as he yearned to get closer to you. All this time, he thought he had lost you. He thought you were gone and he regretted his choice everyday leaving you with HYDRA when he was able to start a new life. In the rare moments when the two of you could actually remember your lives, you had talked quietly and reminisced, knowing you at least had each other through all of the torture.
And then he left, and you were alone.
Bucky hated himself for that and so much more.
“Barnes, Steve’s got it. We can bring you in when we know she’s stable,” Natasha reasoned, pushing Bucky back as he headed towards the door. The guards stood tall and Bucky backed down, clenching his jaw as he watched you break down in the room.
Tears were now spilling one after the other as Steve talked to you softly. Tears for the people who no longer had lives, tears for their families who would never be the same, and you hated yourself for them, but, tears for yourself, for not understanding any part of who you were.
“HYDRA installed a tracker in you, but we were able to take it out. You’re safe now, Y/N.”
“Don’t call me that,” your voice wobbled. You didn’t want to be called that name if you weren’t a person. You were nothing more than a weapon, and you knew that HYDRA had a grasp on you. When you were involved with HYDRA, you were never really free from them.
Bucky shoved his way past the guards and teared open the door, rushing in. Steve got up and talked to Bucky in a quiet voice, asking him to leave. Bucky refused to listen as he pushed Steve away, walking over to you.
As the man came over to you, more memories surged into your mind, ones with his face in them. You remembered the quiet, rare laughter and the sparkle of his eyes when you had gotten him to talk about long ago. The few times when the guards weren’t looking and the two of you reached into each other’s prison cells, taking in the surprise softness of the others palm and intertwining fingers for brief moments before the guards turned back around. Another memory where you were shocked from your sleep as more guards yanked Bucky from his prison cell, the look of dread as he desperately searched for you before crossing into the darkness of the hallway.
He was Bucky.
“Bucky?” You whispered, choking back the tears as you looked into the man’s face, knowing him. Remembering him and his name. Bucky slowly nodded, trying to fight tears of his own as kneeled in front of you, reaching out to hold your face in joy, thanking God that even if you didn’t remember your own life, you remembered him.
The happy moment was cut short when you recoiled from his touch apologetically. The only touches the past few years had been from HYDRA doctors and leaders, either to cause more harm or snap you out of a daydream. Bucky’s hands drew back to his thighs, also knowing how strange another person’s touch was when the only touches you could remember were ones of hostility.
The two of you sat in each other’s presence, shooting glances and sending small smiles in attempts to connect. You had all the memories but now that the both of you were back together, no prison bars or exhausted, broken bodies, it was a condition neither of you knew how to act in.
“I’m sorry,” Bucky’s voice broke. His bottom lip quivered as he spoke. “I’m sorry for leaving you with those bastards when I ran away. I can’t believe I left you there to suffer like that,” he shook, fighting back the tears that made their way down his cheeks slowly.
He was sorry? Him? You were the one that was a murderer. That had just threatened thousands of people’s safety.
That was sent to kill the Avengers.
A memory bubbled, remembering the feeling of how lonely you were when Bucky didn’t come back that day, or the day after that, or the week following. Grief sunk in when you realized you had lost the one person who got you through the day, who gave you just a small bit of hope in that evil place.
“I thought I had lost you,” you admitted, your face twisting in sadness. “I thought they had...”
You didn’t need to finish the sentence to get your message across.
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.” Bucky attempted to give you a kind smile, trying to provide peace when he knew life didn’t work that way. It never worked out that way for people like the two of you.
“I heard what Steve was saying. We’re going to try to get you back. It’s not easy-I know-but this is your second chance at life. None of that, all the killings and bombs and every other bad deed, none of it is your fault. You can’t sit here and think of every person because I know it doesn’t help. We may not be able to forget about them, but we can try to move on.” Bucky wanted so badly to convince you, seeing how upset you were with your involuntary actions.
“Something tells me you don’t believe any of that yourself.” You noted. Bucky scoffed, nodding his head.
“You’re right. Everyone tells me that it wasn’t my fault, that I was brainwashed and had no control, but I always had the small, minuscule voice inside of me, begging me to stop. I just didn’t know how. And look how many people we lost because I couldn’t control myself.” Bucky knew he was going to be scarred, and so were you. He had been through so much to get to this point in his life, and he wasn’t going to allow you to wither away. You were going to grow with him.
“It’s not easy. At all. There are many people on the team that still don’t like me. I can sometimes feel the fear when I do something. Maybe that will never go away. But you’re here now. For a reason. You may not remember your life or much of it, so I’ll be here. Because I didn’t have anyone that knew the hell we endured, but now, we both have someone.”
Bucky reached for your hand, and this time, you didn’t shrink away. His touch was just how you remembered it, his palm soft yet with calloused fingertips. He gazed softly at you after you found the courage to look up, finally giving into the glimmer of hope you had tossed away for so long. You nodded, a shy smile spreading across your face.
“Okay,” you breathed, holding on to Bucky’s hand. His smile grew wider with relief, overjoyed at the fact that you were now back in his life.
Even if you didn’t remember yourself, you still had him.
