I could write an entire essay on how Elvis Presley, who was mentally ill and abused drugs/alcohol which let to his early death, is mostly respected for his contribution to music and held in high regard, while Judy Garland, who was mentally ill as well, had the same vices, and met a similar fate, is constantly mocked for her addictions and written off as crazy. You mention Elvis and people say he was the King of Rock and Roll. You mention Judy and people talk about her dependency on pills, her suicide attempts, anything but her music.

Men go down in history as tortured geniuses and women are seen as basketcases who just couldn't handle life.
