The Sacred Spirit [Espíritu sagrado] (2021)
Tumblr media
The Sacred Spirit in a way shares commonalities with Boots Riley’s satire Sorry to Bother You.  The world of this story is crazy, but a very specific type of crazy.  The majority of the public devour everything they see from TV programs and their local pedagogues.  TV broadcasts beggar belief, telling tales of extraterrestrials and reincarnation as if it were completely normal.  And if someone doesn’t believe those reports, there are other types of insanity.  Conspiracy theories fly fast and thick, from cartels stealing organs from minors to your usual Evangelical apocalypse fetish.  The film’s motific visual language emphasizes the pattern-fixation that these types of ideologies encourage, drawing the viewer into the madness.  At the core of this all is the search for a lost girl who somehow exists at the nexus of all of this.  It’s a thrilling comedy and a wrathful satire wrapped up in one.
If nothing else, this is worth it for perhaps the greatest usage of a cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie” in human history.  Glorious.
THE RULES
SIP
Someone says ‘OVNI Levante’.
Someone mentions aliens.
Ancient Egyptian imagery.
Little girl’s backpack appears onscreen.
BIG DRINK
Someone reads an excerpt from a book or file.
TV broadcast begins.

hey so do you guys remember how zuko was deemed worthy and blessed with the true nature of fire by the guardians of light themselves and became 100x the firebender he was after, with a newfound understanding and oneness with his element
kind of like how katara handled the moon and ocean spirit with her own hands and was blessed with unmatched waterbending power and oneness with her element and also spirit water but get this, also the healing ability to bring someone back from certain death
y'all remember that

i have no context for this, i just wanted to play around with the glowy concepts and also draw mikey interacting with one of the liáfsian guardian spirits (who he has affectionately named 'lumi', thank u @plantdonutwrites). they're small, insect-like manifestations who've been known to guide lost children out of the woods or lead search parties to individuals in need of help.
concept wise, the 'tribunal markings' might be more white than the color directly associated with the boys (since white in celt folklore is associated with the otherworld and sidhe), and likewise they might be more a 'gift of power' from the guardians rather than... chi or 'inner powers', i guess. that's all i got for now.

Which of your Links is the one from Link's Awakening? Can I give him a big good hug, pretty please? Link's Awakening is the very first Zelda I ever played back on the good olde Gameboy when I was a wee small child, bringing me into the franchise. For that, it will forever have a special place in my heart (shame I had to pass on the remake; the characters looked way too much like plastic figurines for my taste).
Then you're looking for Pinky! If you brought him an apple he will hug you for hours and hours! 🍎
Tumblr media
I really love Link's awakening so I understand how special it is, it wasn't my first Zelda but I played it and I can say that I love it a lot!
The story literally conquered me with how sweet it is, even though I always found the ending very sad 😭
I'm happy I draw this for you! I hope you like it!
Thanks for your ask! 💖

CIRCLE TIP:
I know books from the seventies would have you believe otherwise, but you don't have to mentally hold circle for the whole ritual, and you don't have to physically mark the whole circle boundary, nor do you need a coven member to hold space. You can put regular old rocks at each of the cardinal directions along the walls of your room or along the outer perimeter of the sacred space and use those as anchor points for the energy you lay.
Start by gathering, cleansing, and sanctifying/consecrating/blessing/charging/whatever four stones of any shape and size that suits your needs. Larger stones are good if you want them to be a visible reminder of the boundaries of circle, but smaller ones are good for discretion. Anoint them with a protection oil if you'd like (I only recommend doing this if you are using them indoors with no animals around), and/or pencil protection sigils on them. Cast circle but make sure your energy hits each stone and runs through it. If you call in the quarters, invite them to reside in their respective directional stones. Boom, done, now you have an easily marked sacred space that doesn't need constant maintain.
And, fun fact, circle doesn't HAVE to be round. Round is easiest when you're using mental energy to hold the space, but if you use physical barriers like existing walls then your cast energy resides in that physical block and is held automatically. I especially love doing this as a quasi-permanent marker to sanctify an entire room because any doorways become defacto entrances/exits that spiritually open and close when physically opened and closed.
Okay but isn't this being lazy? NO you rude hypothetical, it's not. It's being resourceful. Using these physical anchors allows a solitary practitioner to put their focus towards other things. I use this method when I'm studying magic texts, or so I can hang out with my ancestors and spirit friends casually for extended periods of time, or if I am going to be attempting astral projection. And by "I use this method," I mean it is one of the permanent protections I have in place in my home.
Has anyone else tried this? Please share any experiences or circle hacks you might have!

Understanding the meaning of Aboriginal Art
In order to understand aboriginal art and how it relates to sacred sites, ancestors and the spirit world you need to understand churinga.
According to Aboriginal customary belief if a woman falls pregnant then an Alcheringa spirit has entered her body. It is the Alcheringa that has caused the pregnancy. She will know which Alcheringa impregnated her. She knows which Alcheringa made her pregnant because she knows which of the sacred sites she was near when she fell pregnant.
Customary belief is that when a woman gives birth to a child that the Alcheringa spirit will drop the child’s churinga. The Alcheringa spirit will drop the churinga at the place of the mother’s conception. The mother will tell her elder brother or father at which sacred spot she thinks the spirit entered her body. Father or brother can then return to that sacred site and “find” the child’s churinga.
This churinga dropped by the Alcheringa spirit is a part of that child. The churinga is then placed in a sacred storehouse. The storehouse contains the churinga of all the people the Alcheringa has concieved. It is a very sacred hiding spot storing the churinga of both living and deceased.
