A fic rec of One Direction fics that have an ot4 or ot5 pack dynamic component as requested in this ask. If you enjoy the fics, please leave kudos and comments for the writers! You can find my other fic recs here. Happy reading!
— Louis/Harry —
🌕 Angels Fly by LilyBlue28
(NR, 203k, pack alpha Louis) A magical love story featuring a generations long grudge, a menacing curse, and secrets that keep pulling them apart. Will they be able to find a way back to one another through the dark?
🌕 You Smell Like by mystic_believexx
(M, 185k, human Louis) Ever since Harry left town, Louis’ found himself with the role of pack Alpha, despite being human. So he can’t wait to hand over the reins when Harry returns. Except, it’s not quite that simple…
🌕 Rogue by Laventriloque
(NR, 95k, rogue omega) Louis is a rogue Omega who's suffered through rejection and abuse for the biggest part of his life. He stumbles onto the Styles pack, quite possibly the kindest one he's ever met.
🌕 Shadows Come With The Pain That You're Running From (Love Was Something You've Never Heard Enough) by hlftanna
(E, 51k, tour) a Band AU in which Harry isn't allowed to be who he really is and the North American Tour might bring some unexpected truths into the web of lies and also a bit of heat that has very little to do with the summer in the US.
🌕 Canyon Moon by delsicle / @eeveedel
(E, 40k, Lion King au) For as long as Louis has remembered, he has been promised to be mated to Harry, his best friend and the future pack alpha. But Louis’s heart belonged to the forest and to the hunt more than he could ever imagine it belonging to Harry.
🌕 Burning Soul by LarryAlways28
(E, 39k, omega Louis) Louis is a rogue Omega wolf, all he wants is a new start. Will he allow himself to fully embrace what awaits him, or will he run again, too damaged by past hurt?
🌕 All Your Mates Are Here by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup
(T, 36k, uni) A new pack, a new house, and two new roommates with personal space issues... Plus exams, of course.
🌕 Follow Your Arrow by LadyAJ_13 / @ladyaj-13
(T, 36k, touch deprivation) They said Louis playing alpha wouldn’t affect anything. It was the best thing for the band, so he doesn’t really regret it except deep in the dead of night, when he bites down on his knuckles to swap the echoing ache of depri for a sting of pain.
🌕 Mark my word (we gon' be alright) by harioandlouigi
(E, 35k, friends to lovers) an A/B/O AU featuring an oblivious Harry as the pack leader, a pining Louis as his second-in-command, and an entourage of friends and family who are a little too good at keeping their mouths shut.
🌕 Compass to my Soul by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup
(T, 31k, touch deprivation) Louis Tomlinson, omega, is 1/5 of world famous boy band One Direction. He spends his time hoping his bandmates don’t notice him.
🌕 It's always darkest before the dawn by @marchessa
(E, 15k, human Harry) the one where Louis saves Harry's life by biting him, but the younger man has to pay the price for it.
🌕 good enough (for you) by localopa / @voulezloux
(G, 8k, competition) omega louis is next in line to rule the pack. in spite of the rule saying he needs an alpha to rule, he creates an impossible olympics to find a worthy mate.
🌕 Count The Wolves And We'll Sleep Tonight by scribblewrite
(M, 4k, established relationship) Louis's the Alpha of a powerful pack and Harry's his omega. When Harry's taken by rogue alphas, Louis will do anything to bring him home safely.
— Rare Pairs —

🌕 Like A Bullet In The Dark, by TylerM
(T, 27k, OT5) the one where Zayn, Harry and Louis are alphas in a pack with omega Niall, and Liam is a beta. Until he actually isn't and shit hits the fan.
🌕 a dark world aches for a splash of the sun by calums
(T, 18k, OT5) Being the only Beta in the world's most famous band should be easy, right? Well, not when you're on suppressants and pretending to be a Beta when in fact, you're an omega. Lo and behold, the life of Louis Tomlinson.
🌕 He Carries The Key by @lululawrence
(NR, 8k, OT5) Niall was mostly home, ready for a shower and a chat with Louis, when suddenly Niall was flooded with emotions from the pack bond.

Ohmygod I thought of a Spamton x Reader idea-
What if the reader is an Addison but they're the only Addison who's the closest to Spamton (like they're best friends (hehe not for long~) and the other Addisons are friends with him but not as close) and they've been there for Spamton before, during, and after his Big Shot Era and they aren't planning on leaving or abandoning him (since they secretly have a crush on Spamton) and the reader is the only person Spamton trusts completely (and he also feels the same for them but the two of them both have no idea)
(I have no idea if this has been done before or not-)
almost fogor about this Oops
ive been thinking about this!!! most spamton x readers ive seen tend to be Current spamton (the one we see in game) or big shot era, and unless im not looking hard enough i just never see addispam fics??
a long fic that goes through each stage of his life would be pretty cool!! itd be interesting to see how both reader and spamton grow and change throughout each era! how their relationship changes with the highs and lows of his rise and fall!!
i wonder if reader would be famous with him in big shot era or if theyd be doing their own thing but keep in close contact? itd be Very interesting if they also had a fall from grace and ended up in the same situation as him
i personally imagine itd be a slowburn friends to lovers full of mutual pining and romantic tension.. friendly touches that linger a bit too long, undertones of something more that they brush off.. always saying "i love you" to each other but like in a Totally Platonic Definitely Just Friends way and wishing it meant more (it Does theyre both just oblivious and insecure)
theyve been friends for so long theyre both scared to try to take the relationship any further and risk ruining it even tho everyone else can see theyve got a thing for each other. and when someone tries to say "hey theyre definitely into you" they brush it off as meaningless teasing,, idiots in love fr
i also imagine if they were already super close to begin with, once they start dating it wouldnt change the dynamic of their relationship very much if at all! they just click so naturally, its like they might as well have been dating the whole time. itd be funny if/when they announce their relationship someone just goes "tbh i assumed you guys were already dating"
i love this idea and i wish i could do more with it </3 i wouldnt be able to write it as i envision it, but maybe someone else can take inspiration from the concept ^^

Buddy Daddies: Family Story of Two Killers and a Girl
Everyone's going to compare this to Spy×Family, and it's not hard to see why. A blonde master of disguise and an aloof dark-haired killer raising a little girl together? It wouldn't surprise me if the popularity of S×F's manga is a big part of what inspired Buddy Daddies, or at least got it greenlit.
But I feel like that comparison is doing a disservice to BD, both because it's not trying to do a lot of what made S×F famous and because it's not as good at the things both focus on. The characters aren't as sharp, there aren't any fun secrets shaping their dynamics, it doesn't seem like there's much deeper going on to compare to S×F's anti-war themes, etc.
But that doesn't mean it's bad. It's fun! The soundtrack is great—it doesn't steal the spotlight, but it feels distinctive if you pay attention (half of the first episode's music is Christmassy, the other half is jazzy). The leading men seem pretty basic, but they have a fun dynamic. The kid is cute, and not just because she looks like Uraraka Ochaco as a kindergartener—the animators and voice actor did plenty of work there.
I don't anticipate this being high art. It feels stylish but shallow. But if it's trash, it's my kind of trash.
Anyways, have some screenshots to communicate some amusing contrasts in the buddy daddies' personalities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a fair bit that doesn't fit in two contrasting frames. For instance, Kazuki (the blonde one) is a womanizer who's easily tempted to gamble, while Rei is a near-hikkikomori gamer (who seemed to be playing some kind of XCOM-like tactics game? good taste, I think).
There's also Miri, whose personality can be summarized in one frame:
Tumblr media
She's guileless, oblivious to the violence around her with barely any effort on the buddy daddies' part, and completely normal. In some ways, it seems like they were trying to make her as little like Anya Forger as they could without making her un-cute.
Also: No, I wasn't kidding when I said she looked like Uravity. Her hair's a little shorter and her blush stickers are a bit bigger, but otherwise, yeah.
Anyways, I hope these characters get more depth in future episodes. But I'll probably watch either way. Guys adopting kids they're unsuited to raise is exactly my kind of trash.

Okay so I just browse through dozens of Backyardigans songs and got punched in the face with how good this show is???
Like the characters' dynamics??? Every duos and trios and quartet are a fucking delight. You can put them with anyone within the group and they will fit?? But even then the show really emphasized how they are different people even though they click with each other; Pablo the slightly oblivious nice guy with a streak of anxiety from time to time, Tyrone the also slightly oblivious nice guy with a streak of anxiety but with a bit more social skill thn Pablo, Austin who is both the helper and an enabler at the same time who is also very very smart, Uniqua who has the leader vibe and-- she's just very cool as a character? She played as a princess once and a knight the next, if that's not your standard of cool then you probably haven't watched this, and last but definitely not least Tasha who is sassy but very sweet and daring too? They're all perfect and their personalities are surprisingly really complex??? Like, they seem humane.
Oh! And I want to add that because all of them get to play the antagonist in different episodes, we can see how different yet the same they can be on the other side of justice. And that's??? Really awesome??? To see that everyone can be good or bad and still be the same person, just different situations?
Also the fact that every episode is literally just them running around in a new make-believe world, having fun and being wild with their imagination with it ... God, I think I love writing stories so much now because of them.
Moreover, the episodic plots man, holy shit they're all so good?
- A fairy tale type story where the knights and other characters try to save the dragon instead of saving someone from it.
- A story about two people losing their head over a runaway train that contains the Tsar.
- An Olympic type story that teaches the audience to be helpful to others and even when your skills are below others, you can still do things and having fun doing them.
- A story about journeying the world to have the perfect tea with your friends ... and making unexpected friends along the way.
And lots and lots more! Every concept is a fucking delight and it always takes unexpected turns that make the story even more fun. And the fact that some episodes are based on famous movies or franchise like Night at the Museum and Journey to the Center of the Earth? That's super cool!
Don't even get me started on the songs. Sure, I don't like all of them but holy shit even the ones that I personally don't like I can admit they're bangers. Some of my favourites are Marching to the Top, Don't Flip Out, I Must be Ready, Go Go Go, and I Gotta Feel. There are more than those ofc.
What is the point of this rambling? Idk man I just want to blabber about them. I love this show so much. I cried hearing I Gotta Feel and cried even more after seeing their dance. God. This show is the best.

Check Please SCP!AU:
Dex is a reality bender/Type Green and the GOC is kinda hunting him for sport at this point
Also he is related to the Brights in some fashion (like they’re his cousins or whatever) so he also got hit with whatever the fuck makes this entire family like that and the Foundation has some kind of interest in him too (idk I just wanna build in some casual, old fashioned Adam Bright hate)
Lardo works with Are We Cool Yet? and is well known in the anart-scene, she probably lives in Backdoor Soho or Three Portlands
Shitty probably lives with her
Nursey is an Agent for the Serpents Hand because he just seems like someone who would just absolutely THRIVE in the Wanderers Library
(Alternatively he works for the GOC and has a weird enemies-but-i-also-kinda-am-into-you-thing with Dex, also I think he and Ukulele would not at all get along and I think that’s a fun dynamic (like what Ukulele/Clef later has with Kondraki, u kno??))
Bitty has something to do with Ambrose Restaurants
(Alternatively, he works for the Foundation and is specified in food-related anomalies, also he has pretty much forced Iceberg to be friends with him [i just think they would have a neat dynamic])
Shitty with the UIU?!? Or Ransom & Holster with the UIU?
Wellie the well is an SCP
John Johnson is also an SCP
Jack is literally just some normal guy. He is still a famous hokey player, but he isn’t anomalous or affiliated with any GOI. He is also completely oblivious to all of the anomalous things happening around him. Everyone assumes he is aware of the veil because his boyfriend works with Ambrose/the Foundation and he literally has been to Backdoor Soho, but he is just somehow comically unaware.
Shitty definitely tried to join the Church Of The Broken god at some point (idk is he is still affiliated with them tho)
Chowder works for the Foundation and he is literally the only person there that isn’t absolutely fucked up (no repressed emotions, fucked up family, anomalous abilities or being trapped in the emptiness between universes with only a single lightbulb as company). He still has his family and they just think he works for a weird government program and never question it that much, he works mostly with safe-class anomalies

Most Maddening Habits of Every Zodiac Signs
Tumblr media
According to the famous astrologer in India, Astrology is a comprehensive, sophisticated, and transforming subject. The basic study of astrology focuses on each of the 12 zodiac signs. Each zodiac sign has its own specialisation, and each zodiac sign has its own unique personality, with dynamic strengths and maddening flaws.
The zodiac is divided into four parts, which include Fire (fire sign Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn); Wind (signs of wind are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius); And water (water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).
In general, people born under the fire zodiac are passionate and exuberant, while those born under the earth zodiac are practical, analytical and inquisitive, and those born under the water zodiac are intuitive and emotional through the eyes of the best astrologer in India. Each zodiac has its own unique habit that distinguishes one person from another. On this planet, no one is complete. Let us know about your terrible habits based on your zodiac sign so that you can change your bad habits. To reach ultimate happiness, you must all develop yourself to become a better person.
 1. Aries:
The people born under this sign are always victorious in their endeavours. The people born under this sign are fierce and unwilling to compromise. This zodiac's native does not enjoy waiting. People born under the Aries sign, like the first sign in the zodiac, enjoy being the first. Others may be discouraged by your habits if they do not move as swiftly as you do, and you may become upset if people and things do not move at your pace.
 2. Taurus:
People born under this sign are naturally careless, which makes it difficult for them to maintain a healthy balance in their relationships. Such folks are frequently in a state of disarray. However, it produces consternation, headaches, and mayhem. Taurus people are infamous for hoarding their possessions. As a result, they haven't been able to take their relationship in a new path.
 3. Gemini:
This zodiac is compassionate and sees both sides of a problem, yet they can also deceive others with their indiscretion. Gemini folks might also be oblivious to others. He only likes those who pay attention to what they have to say. This zodiac has a reputation for being poor listeners. As a result, people are less inclined to speak with them. This zodiac's native should make it a practise to pay attention to others.
 4. Cancer:
Because the native of this zodiac's mood varies all the time, people are hesitant to trust their remarks. Due to their own indiscretion and lies, these people can sometimes employ manipulative tactics with other people, and when people catch on to your lie, you start toying with other people's feelings to show yourself right.
Tumblr media
5. Leo:
People born under this sign are known for presenting themselves in front of others by climbing very high and bragging in simple terms. To attract people, persons born under this sign use their creativity as well as their intelligence. Leo, on the other hand, will have to learn to appreciate people and overcome his own fears.
 6. Virgo:
This zodiac's natives do not make any sacrifices when it comes to their happiness, which has become their worst habit. This zodiac wants everything in their lives to be flawless, and they never miss an opportunity to criticise others. They are always sceptical of other people's opinions.
 7. Libra:
"This is one of the worst behaviours of Libra residents. They will go to any length to satisfy their desire to gain any object." On their extraordinary lifestyle, people born under this sign prefer equally attractive but economical items. People born under this sign are eager in starting new relationships, but they don't seem to care about their current ones.
 8. Scorpio:
Throughout their lives, people born under this sign complain about everyone. Scorpions have a history of exacting vengeance on individuals who have treated them unfairly. If someone's words or actions have harmed their self-esteem, they can make any big decision out of rage.
 9. Sagittarius:
This zodiac has a proclivity for giving lengthy remarks. Dhanu has a poor tendency of always telling the truth. You could be a little irritable. You're impatient because you've set high goals and objectives for yourself, but you don't have a practical plan in place to help you reach them.
 10. Capricorn:
This zodiac's native has the greatest proclivity for acquiring wealth, and as a result, he is sometimes misunderstood as a miser. People who earn this much put their work first, ignoring their family and friends and feeling lonely as a result. You should also concentrate on your working relationship; else, you may experience tension in your life.
 11. Aquarius:
This zodiac's native is accustomed to living an entirely self-sufficient existence. It is tough for them to develop intimacy as a result of this. They believe that their connection will put their freedom at risk. After evaluating things, they may find themselves feeling extremely agitated and anxious.Through the eyes of the famous astrologer in Kolkata, Aquarians are calm and uninteresting, and as a result, few people approach them.
Tumblr media
12. Pisces:
This zodiac has a proclivity for forgetting things. They neglect to put their treasures somewhere safe, and when they don't find them, they become agitated and chew their nails. This zodiac is content in their own little universe. They have a difficult time distinguishing between fantasy and reality.

(Me internally: don't send another title ask don't send another title ask don't send another title ask don't-) Rinse and Repeat
title: Rinse and Repeat
synopsis: Kasamatsu works at a boba place, trying to make ends meet. His mother is sick, and since his younger brothers are assholes who don’t care for family and his dad ditched them for another woman as soon as his mom’s diagnosis was released, he’s stuck with caring for her, a responsibility which he takes on willingly, but it doesn’t leave much space for a private life on his own. Kise has a favorite boba place near the studio he frequents in - or more like, he has a favorite boba person. Kasamatsu belittles him when everyone else is too caught up in his shine to even treat him as a human being, and the appeal is way too good to not try to go after this closed-off employee. And whenever Kise decides on something, he goes all in.

lesser-known terms/labels for bisexuals: a review
look, i know what i said about hating the fact that twitter coins all these useless terms to keep bi sapphics from using butch/femme without using doe/stag, but i have to admit that some of them actually kinda rock....... and some of them (expectedly) kinda suck. ALSO THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY OF THEM JUST STOP TRYING AND STICK WITH BUTCH/FEMME OR DOE/TOMCAT/STAG DEAR LORD. I BEG. YOUR COINED SET WILL NOT BECOME FAMOUS AND EARN REWARDS.
1.) to start, solis/lunith/saros are based on the sun & moon, which y’all know i’m such a sucker for the dynamic of, though i’m not a fan of the saros flag being all-blue even though it’s my favorite color. i don’t know why. since given the other two it can easily have a more androgynous context than a masculine one (i.e. “boy = blue”), but to be fair it’s started to grow on me.
2.) similarly, i like solyn/lunyn/mercyn just as much, except that my preferences are switched in that i love the flags much more than the terms. green for androgyny is actually pretty clever imo and the lunyn flag is GORGEOUS and the solyn flag has a color palette that works perfectly for a lot of my favorite characters. they sound pretty, don’t get me wrong, but they’re just weird words to me (and that’s fine!!).
3.) but then you have this “one presentation type for each gender” system that follows the infamous tumblr animal format (with a mixture of pretty and ugly flags, just to mention it) and it just gets complicated. not to mention that i actually dislike this replacement set more than the original, which should say something considering just how much bi sapphics have expressed their hatred for calling themselves deers or other wild forest animals (especially due to implied antiblackness). i mean... moths, beetles, butterflies, and mantises for nonbinary folk? really?? are you just oblivious to all the infantilizing stereotypes that are applied to (usually afab) nonbinary people? and of how much other trans people hate that for us too? i feel like that’s self-explanatory but whatever, if twitter finds that more acceptable than bi history being “lesbophobic” then i’m not gonna prohibit them lmfao. i do actually like the flower system for bi mlm/nblm though, i’ll give op that, and although i’d probably choose different color palettes for the bi wlw/nblw flags due to them reminding me of your classic cartoon-alien-themed children’s outer space playground, they’re not bad. i like celestial body themes. dunno why “moon” and “star” aren’t flipped in meaning, though.
4.) moving on from that rant though, i’d just like to say as a nblm person that these cloud-themed terms are not bad. they’re alright. i do like them better than knight/mage/druid (linked in the above paragraph), which is what they were designed to replace. the corresponding flags can be found here in this thread below this tweet and i personally have a bit of bias in favor of them because i have a preference for blues, grays, and desaturated colors. “cumulous” bi for masculine men, though....... no criticism, i just find that an odd choice in a funny lighthearted way. :)
5.) all i have to say about these three replacements coined for bi sapphics to replace doe/tomcat/stag are that the terms are nice, i wouldn’t use them but they’re pretty enough, but 2/3 of the flags (excluding “forte”) are just plain ugly as hell and i’m not gonna sugarcoat it. sorry, i don’t like them and that’s my opinion. no hate to op but dear god.
6.) this more simplified insect set for (especially nonbinary) bi sapphics basically just gets the same judgement as #3′s moth/beetle/butterfly/mantis since everything was already said in that paragraph. the flags do look nice to be fair, although the butterfly one looks eerily similar to the eclipsis/eclipse bisexual flag, which i see as more of an aesthetic combining the sun & moon rather than a presentation identity.
7.) lastly, i’ve already given my opinion on the damme/tomme pairing in that reblogged post considering they’re the stupidest copycats of butch/femme i’ve ever seen. while i might cringe at some of the options in this post i think i’m gonna have to judge this set as the one i genuinely dislike the post. it’s the biggest “fuck you” ever to bi sapphics coming from fellow bi sapphics and i’m not changing my mind. i hate them. like, imaging calling yourself a “damme bi” and the response is just “damn bi wtf??” it’s just silly.
like i said, there were a lot, and none of them actually really hold any weight or history that seem appealing enough for me. maybe i can adopt solis/saros and solyn on the side, and nimbus when i feel more man-aligned on those rarer days, but that’d be it. please stop embarrassing yourselves is all i have to say to end this post. :/

I thought I had you - SR
Tumblr media
// Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 //
Masterlist // Taglist
Summary: Reader tries to do a nice thing for Spencer but his self-doubt brings out the worst in him (a continuation to ‘I’ve got you’).
Couple: Spencer Reid x Gender Neutral Reader (I think. I don’t remember being gender-specific but correct me if im wrong. You know the drill).
Category: fluff? pining? teensy bit of angst? idk
Warnings: uhhhh nothing much, I think. The idea of Spencer feeling the stuff that I wrote makes my little heart go crunchy. Also, Spencer being a dumbass (JUST COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER Jesus Christ).
Words: 1779.
_________________________________
The post-case bliss you were experiencing was short lived. You had merely managed to say your goodbyes and gotten home before you received a message from Hotch.
‘Get rest. Tomorrow will be paperwork day‘ the message read. Honestly, out of your options, this was the best one. Staring at the gruesome images that depicted the women you hadn’t been able to save was way better than finding yourself in the actual situation. Having another case right now was a terrifying thing to even fathom.
You couldn’t help but think back to the day before. Your skin hadn’t even begun to forget the touch of the pretty boy that had nursed you to sleep. Your heart hadn’t let go of the strings that were pulling it, making you feel jittery and full of pure adoration for Spencer. Your mind still could shake the thought that he had stayed up, being as exhausted as you had been, just to help you. To make you feel good.
It was such a beautiful gesture that all you could think of was doing the same for him. Not because you felt like you owed him anything, but because you wanted him to feel as full of appreciation and love as he had made you feel a mere couple of hours ago.
You didn’t mind going out of your way to do so. You woke up determined, setting aside the exhaustion that still lingered, and went to you guys’s favourite coffee shop to get him his own “latte with A LOT of sugar”, and your iced coffee.
You arrived 5 minutes later than you usually did, earning yourself a few reprimands and questions from Penelope, who had been waiting for you at to desk to tell you all about a guy she had met while you guys were away who was “definitely your type!! I have his number if you want it”.  As you walked in, you chuckled at Penelope’s eagerness before placing Spencer’s coffee in front of him, too absorbed in his paperwork to even realise. You didn’t mind the lack of recognition.
Without another word, you turned to sit on your chair, Penelope still telling you all about the mystery man she had met.
“He saw you on my lock screen and immediately asked for your number!! Said something about you looking like a sweet person. Wanting to get to know you or something”.
Penelope’s lock screen was a photo of the team that had been taken during one of Rossi’s famous dinner parties. You were standing between Prentiss and Spencer. Your arm went around her shoulders, pressing your index finger against her scrunched up nose. Spencer was looking at you with a bright smile on your face and your smile reached your eyes as you laughed. It was a truly pretty picture.
“I’ll think about it, Pen” you said. You didn’t intend on getting his phone number, your heart being otherwise occupied to see anybody like that. “Now shoo! I have so much paperwork to do and Hotch is gonna kill me if I don’t finish it soon”.
Spencer looked up long enough to see that you had appeared in front of him. Honestly, he was quite nervous about today, not knowing if your dynamic would change after the events of the day before. He had never been this intimate with anybody, let alone a coworker, and he really wasn’t looking forward to any looks of uncomfortable silences.
But nothing of the sort happened.
The team was not oblivious of your feelings for each other. So much so that when you started showing signs of having feelings the team would tease your about it, calling you “genius couple”. At one point, Morgan pointed out how close you guys were in the coffee station, when you had been giggling about theories on your mutual obsession for Doctor Who. “Guys, the PDA really isn’t appreciated here” he groaned, covering his eyes in a dramatic manner, before chuckling. But when he saw Spencer practically push you off of him, muttering a ‘gotta go’, and when he witnessed the way the light in your eyes dimmed, turned into a look of embarrassment, he decided that the team should let you guys figure it out yourselves.
“Wait, where did this come from?” Spencer said, grabbing the coffee in front of him and lifting it. You lifted your own, showing the same logo on your drink.
“I brought it in” you offered, with a smile.
“Why would you do that?” he scrunched his nose in confusion, a move you always thought he looked absolutely adorable doing.
“No reason” you shrugged. “I was gonna get my own and I thought of you and how tired you must be, so I brought you one too”.
He got up quickly. “Let me pay for it though” he took out his wallet from the side of his bag before you stopped him.
“No, there’s no need. It’s the least I could do.” you explained, sitting back down to work on what was in front of you. Spencer furrowed his eyebrows, putting the pieces together. Could you not see that he had enjoyed it as much as you did? That the mere thought of you wanting to touch him was heaven for him?
He immersed himself into the loads of paperwork once again, trying to finish it all before it got too late.
But he never did. He spent the rest of the day offering you little looks when you weren’t looking, trying to catch your beautiful eyes in his. You were a complete distraction to him, and he couldn’t think of anybody or anything better taking up the space in his mind. He wanted his whole existence coated with little pieces of you.
10pm came around way to soon, and Spencer was only halfway through his paperwork (he may have an IQ of 187 but when you got in his mind it was cut by half, leaving him inefficient and incapable of carrying through his responsibilities).
You, on the other hand, had taken a different approach, allowing yourself to ‘go under’, only seeing the words coating the documents you were supposed to read through. You were completely aware that if your eyes drifted a little bit they would find themselves fixed in the resident genius’ face, roaming around, trying to absorb every little ounce of his being. And you were still exhausted, despite the two iced coffee’s you had had during the day (making sure to grab a refill for Reid when you saw him yawning and rubbing his eyes too much).
But you had managed to finish your paperwork just in time, meaning you finally allowed yourself to look up at Spencer. His eyes were red, and his eyebrows were furrowed, positively giving him a headache without even noticing. The pile of “to do” paperwork was way too tall, something you found odd. Usually it was him who finished the paperwork before anybody else, but this time you could tell he wasn’t fully focused.
Without a word, you rolled your chair to the side of his desk and grabbed half of his documents. He looked up at you, allowing you to truly see the state of his being. He was going insane, and you made a decision.
“Go home, Spencer. I’ll finish this off for you” you said, offering a small smile before  moving to grab the files. His hands stopped your own before you got to them, and you looked up at him confused.
“You already finished yours, Y/N. Go home” he mumbled. “You need the rest”.
“Spencer you’re exhausted. I don’t mind doing it” you assured him, moving again to grab the files. This time, he didn’t offer any physical resistance, but rather a verbal one, in a tone way too aggressive for your own liking.
“Why are you doing this, anyway?” he questioned you, exhaustion clearly taking over him, showing the worst of him. “Why did you bring me coffee? Twice, if I may add. And why are you helping me with the paperwork? What are you doing?” he asked, way too quickly, and with a tone way too questioning. He talked to you like you were an unsub - like you were hiding something.
To be completely fair, Spencer had spent the whole day wondering why you hadn’t made a move on him, even if that meant just talking to him. Granted, you guys had plenty to do but you always found a moment to talk to each other. He had concluded that what happened the day before hadn’t meant anything to you. That the moment you shared, your skin against his, the feelings that had yet to stop lingering on his own skin, hadn’t meant anything.
Of course, this isn’t to say that he had helped you because he wanted something back. Not at all. But you had fallen asleep in his arms. He had felt every single part of your skin against his - something that, to be fair, he wasn’t at all used to -, his heart had felt full for the first time in way too long (a feeling only you could arise within him) and now you didn’t feel what he was feeling?
Here’s the thing: Spencer was more prone to feeling insecure when he was tired, not being able to shut out the dark thoughts that swarmed his head. The thought of you not remembering that moment like he had broke his heart. And the sheer sadness he was feeling, along with the exhaustion that had accumulated from the day before, really weren’t a great combination.
You sighed.
“Spencer, you’re exhausted. Your eyes are red and you’ve been yawning nonstop for the past two hours. Not to mention that you didn’t sleep during the flight yesterday. Go home. I’ll take care of it, doll” you said. His eyes narrowed, feeling ridiculous for ever thinking you’d want to spend more time with him. Without another word, he got up, grabbed his bag and moved to the door, before turning in his heels and walking back to you. You were already reading through the first file before he reached you. Your eyes met him as he stared down at you, and the words left his mouth before he even could think of stopping them.
“Listen, babe” he began in a condescending tone, exhaustion bringing out the worst in him. “I helped you yesterday with your headache the same way I would have helped anybody. You’re not special” he spat, before leaving, leaving you dumbfounded.
Spencer was fuming, trying to conceal a his broken heart. His mind could only think one single sentence, settling in his mind as if it were its new home.
‘I thought I had you’.
And you had been thinking about the moment you two were done so you could offer him a ride to his apartment instead of having him take the subway. Excitement had been running through your veins, desperately trying to finish your paperwork in time to carry out your little plan.
Needless to say, Spencer wasn’t the only one who left the bullpen with a broken heart.

Utena thoughts...about 2 weeks later
I've been putting it off for way too long and so most of my thoughts stopped being fresh. On top of watching way too many analysis vids post-watch, but still I do at least want to put my 2cents of Revolutionary Girl Utena out there for the world.
Tumblr media
Utena is perhaps one of the most famous "magical girl"/shoujo action shows out there for not only it's transgressive themes of relationship abuse and low-key pretty much being the poster girl for like actual feminist perspective on/in anime...but also just doing it all in both a heavily allegorical and understated, yet super over-the-top stylish fashion
But that's it's reputation preceding itself, is Utena worth while all these years? The answer is Yes, but it also really shows it's age and budget in pacing and repetition, tho as an appreciator for "behind the scenes" compromises in art, it's more showcasing Ikuhara's talent in working around both taboo and long-form budget constraints with just well-thought out and iconic imagery that - while episodic and formulaic - is just very good at filling the 39 eps with feasts for the eyes.
Utena broadly is about tomboy Utena with memories long ago after her parents died being "saved" by a princely figure like a princess...except she's so enthralled by the nostalgia that instead she becomes a full on Prince herself and receives a dueling ring to fight in the Ohtori Acadamy secret duels for "engagement" to Rose Bride Himemiya Anthy.
Utena is divided between 4 arcs, only the first and last being Manga adapted from hearsay:
1: Student Council Saga
2: Black Rose Saga
3: Akio Ohtori Saga
4: Apocalypse
From back to forth I'd say that Akio + Apoc is more just escalation into the finale while Black Rose being anime original comes off as a glorified side-character study which while complementing the secondary cast, feels like one of those Anime movies that has to say "but if you don't watch this part, it's pretty much optional for the main plot" despite it also actually introducing the most important antagonist within it's margins.
Tumblr media
More importantly, it's the Student Council (arc and the actual people) that lay the foundation but also a large part of the show's focus which ironically puts Utena in the background until like almost the finale and some in-between developments, so it's less "Utena (and Anthy Himemiya)'s story" until the very end, but more like a showcase of how fucked up the system at large is (pin in that).
By the Council themselves is:
Kyouichi Saionji: The biggest jobber, like actually introduced as the most despicable loser ep 1 and proceeds to be a complete arrogant joke for the rest of the show. Honestly in another shojo "love" story, they'd find some way to redeem him but semi-compellingly they turn him into like an Aqua-lad type pathetic brat with an inferiority complex to the actual Student head
Miki Kaoru: the naive "nice, non-threatening soft boy" that also just never actually listens to the girls around him. Probably adds more complexity to the whole patriarchal idea on analytic reflection since yeah, the whole "nice guy finishes last" plays up better when the kid comes off as that "ally" energy of wanting to save Himemiya from being the Rose Bride but also low-key won't actually not just do the duels and win her cuz he's that sorta wishy-washy hypocrite. Arguably the least hateable guy in the cast (minus mascot Chu-Chu)
Juri Arisugawa: TRAGIC LESBIAN TRIANGLE LOVE. Probably the biggest point to of both "not-explicitly homosexual" but also really freaking obvious since her entire story is her girlfriend stealing her "boy crush" when actually she was crushing on her and being pretty much frustrated throughout her story as pining most of it. It's quaint by today's standards but also like damn girl, get over her she was like the worst back stabbing bitch (literally if Black Rose counts)
Nanami Kiryuu: SPEAKING OF QUEEN BITCH, it's been a long time since I've watched a High School girl bully and honestly it's kinda refreshing. If Miki is "soft-boy uwu" Nanami is a brat that gets her come-uppance often, featured prominently as an anime only with the MOST filler/comedic episodes but also not low-key, being the most out-spoken actual brother complex ironically spins perhaps the biggest twist and ironic relationships of "I love my brother but not-like-that but also like-that" by the end. Mostly comedic relief but I find her inclusion to actually add a lot more to juxtapose...
Touga Kiryuu: Big Student Council Prez himself, the first arc antagonist and also a strong foil to Saionji and later a stepping stone for Akio. Touga is THE image of a Princely Playboy Heart-Throb that in any other Shoujo romance would have the main girl win him over from all those "other girls" despite him being apathetic if not outright manipulative of them. Good thing Utena is better than that and really puts a spotlight on just not-actually-ok his power hunger for "the power to bring the world revolution" that leads him to heavily objectify Anthy, arguably even more than Misogynist Trophy Girlfriend beater Saionji, since he doesn't even see her as more than a means to an end despite professing and looking the Prince part but lacking all the actual virtues.
The Student council matters more since they're characters and subsequent tragic flaws are the ACTUAL meat of the show and on second rumination actual shows more how fucked up the system/gender dynamic/power hierarchy is since - while it blatantly fucks over Juri who can't just outright say who she likes - also show almost it's own sub-text of Masculine failings: Saionji desperately clinging to being TOXIC MASCULINE™ and completely falling short underneath Touga; Miki's "nice boy" act belying him trying to replace his low-key nostalgia for his sister (also a bitch, but apparently was more like Nanami in the manga); and best yet Touga being the quintessential "Prince in all but actual behavior" by emulating a cutthroat and Machiavellian world view but coming up empty because well, he's just an illusion of a prince...but that leads in way more to the big finale piece where I'll reintroduce the actual story's main trio
Utena Tenjou: Tomboy Prince with brain empty except for lesbian thoughts. Honestly probably what every western "STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN" archetype wishes they were since while having very tomboyish personality in athletics, blunt speaking and also VERY oblivious to the actual plot for REAL DRAMATIC IRONY, but also never actually demeaning her being feminine partially due to her love of an childhood prince and how she maintains her relationship with both her friend Wakaba and later Anthy. Honestly mostly a plot device after S1 until she gets ACTUAL development by the very end and instead kinda bumbles her way into undoing the entire REVOLUTION OF THE WORLD. I kinda wish she felt either more cognizant or at least felt like she was developing/properly rebuking the rest of the cast's power obsessions but I guess that's for the movie.
Anthy Himemiya: Actual Trophy Wife with a dark secret (darker than ski- wait no that's terrible scratch that). Set-up very much as an immediate princess in distress while also being the most femme Yamato Nadeshiko, Anthy being the Rose Bride as a literal prize who acts and behaves as whom she's "engaged" with desires while otherwise being quiet, wry, mysterious and noticably submissive, by the end it actually plays up into THE BIG REVEALS of just how abused she's been into a hopeless acceptance...like y'know actual abuse victims.
Akio Ohtori: Grade A Antagonist, probably the most insidious I've seen a villain in a while, Akio is notable for, back in 1997, being perhaps the big go-to of actual deconstructing the facade of a whole shoujo genre's "hots for a teacher/sexy man putting the moves" and highlighting how actually exploitative and abusive a person like that really is. Being Himemiya's brother (somewhat justified in the manga by both being a weird Sailor Moon-esque reincarnation of gods/godesses of Dios), despite how much of his motives are runing the background and how the entire back story is  uh...brought up in like barely in the last arc with little lead up (some scenes feel like they'd be a full melodrama season and they just have like 1 scene in the final arc episodes) he manages to one-up Touga (in the plot as well) by instead of "just" objectifying girls, not-just-flat out saying Utena looks best as a princess, but y'know the fact that he is implicitly yet constantly exploiting and victim-blaming Anthy for her own suffering for "the power of Dios/Revolution of the world" turns it on its head
Tumblr media
I've spent all this time on characters but in truth a lot of the meat of the show relies again on the Council Members fleshing out the issues of system leading to outright divorcing "being a Prince" (heroic altruistic virtues) and "being a man" (considering like all but maybe the comedic relief have some deliberately misogynistic behavior) and beyond just the plot (or rather character) synopsis, the talent goes far more in how it's framed, the symbolic/allegorical shots, the repetition adding a good episode formula flow to character showcases, probably the most "tasteful" allusion to uh...*ahem* sexual abuse that so many other edgier/prentious shows fumble. Both in how intimidating yet understated it's foreshadowing is until they hard-reveal it despite never explicitly naming it even tho it sends Nanami into hysterics
Really it's both a massive blessing and reason for it's cult beloved status for it's aesthetics but also it's burden, for being a full 39 episodic season by season character development study of everyone BUT the main trio except for snippets and the very end that makes it greatly appreciable as a legitimate work of art.
What I wanted more to say however (long overdue) is that a large part of following is, visibly at least, western feminist critiques and yes while it almost seems like Utena fits the "deconstructing patriarchy" story like a glove...it's weird how almost none of them actually can give a good historical account of actual Japanese female/gender/sexuality norms nor Anime contemporaries actually were. Like Tenchi Muyo and Berserk came out the same year (Cardcaptor Sakura the next) and despite how you can "feel" the influence in lots of modern shows like SHAFT's signature visual imagery cuts or many WESETERN shows having straight scene references to Utena....almost no one has a similar feel to Utena until like Princess Tutu comes out.
Really tho probably should've watched Utena and then Tutu because while it's undeniable that Utena is a major pillar of shoujo re-codification - what with everyone before Utena was saying they thought it'd be like a Rose of Versaille or Lady Knight rip-off...whose laughing now? - it's almost like there's a missing link between it and it's major western fanbase (probably with what few anime did get overseas, this one probably rose to the top), or how very noticeable there IS an influence on it's genre in Japan
Almost none of the big analyst fans actually know A) it's not "a deconstruction of Magical Girls" since despite Ikuhara working on Sailor Moon just before this, almost none of the tropes line up and instead more with Shoujo genre as a whole. or  one of the major inspirations was Takarazuka theater.
And this is not to dismiss how inspirational it is to it's western fandom, but while I am notably cynical towards placing things on pedestals, there's probably something about cultivating the whole pop-culture feminist reading commune with people making weird time-loop theories while kinda most of it is just filling in a mad-lib mostly thanks to Ikuhara just keeping things on the vague and letting the audience take away their own perspective.
Again, most of the show is completely sub-textual or visually/symbolically depicted and never stated nor properly defines it's weird key words (End of the World, Revolutionize the World, Power of Dios, Rose Bride, all things said constantly but never really said what they "mean". But that's also perhaps its charm, in it's allegory and very Death of the Author approach, it has definitely allowed it's fan theorizing and appreciation to flourish so there's something there for that.
Ultimately I'd say Utena the TV series is great more so for what it isn't...or rather I should say it's great for not just subverting Shoujo tropes and archetypes for the Japanese audience but also that despite dealing with some very serious and heavy subjects in obtuse and perhaps understated ways for the time, people have allowed it to be put on it's pedestal because they can easily fit it in themselves.
Honestly though, not that a more "straight forward" approach wouldn't detract from Utena but I will say that the movie, Adolescence of Utena, is very much the best encapsulation of what Utena strives to be (for another big blog post) and while the TV series has plenty of time and flexes it's directorial muscles with budget constraints and season pacing UNrestrained, the movie will trim a lot of the fat

You thought you’d never see Miya Atsumu again but here he was, in your son's sports club, helping out Sugawara. Wasn’t it supposed to be volleyball season? What was he doing here? Helping the kids and picking up volleyballs? Didn’t he hate kids?
“...We train every morning and I personally train every night. You know my sched, it's what I did back then in college too.” He shrugs nonchalantly, “Plus I wanted to personally apologize to the brats too because of what ‘samu and I did.”
You tilt your head in curiosity, “What did younger Miya-san do?”
“Beat’s me, your brat told me that ‘samu made you cry when he confronted you,” he blinked, recalling the first meeting he had with the kid, come to think of it, they did had a pretty good reason to be wary of him from the start, “Must’ve said something really shitty if you cried, L/N-san. You never cried except that night at the frat party when I first actually got to talk to you.”
Nostalgia hits you when you recall that day, it was a shitty day indeed. The only upside was seeing and talking to Miya Atsumu for the first time and getting him to bandage your leg.
“Oh.”
“Oh indeed.” the blonde stated, wiggling his eyebrows, “He’s just overprotective sometimes which is weird since we used to get into fist fights. Doesn’t excuse him for being an asshole to ya though.”
“He was being rational.” You expressed, watching him pick up the last volleyball.
“He has no right to though.” he retorted, annoyed that you were letting it slide, “Let’s be honest here, who did you left six years ago?”
“What-”
“You left me.” He cuts you off, giving you no chance to talk, you’d think he’d sound bitter by it but he anything but that. It was as if he was proving a point, “And I’ll admit I was angry at first by what you did and how it ended but that doesn’t give my friends and my brother the right to intervene. I’m not a fucking kid, I know what I got into when we started dating.”
“Miya-san, I-”
“So let me make it up to you, alright? Before we started dating, I was your friend first. Now that we’re both responsible adults and you’re a single mom at least let your friend help you. You can handle that shit right?” He replied but before you could even agree to him, your kids went out of the comfort room, fully changed to dryer clothes.
“Kaasan!” They yell in unison but immediately stop in their tracks when they see Miya Atsumu standing next to you.
“What’s this jiji doing here?” Yuuto spat out bitterly, looking the other way. The younger twin followed suit and looked the other way too, making Atsumu laugh and bend down to their level, “I heard from your kaasan that you like to eat cake. How about a truce? I know a good place that sells good cakes.”
Yuuto and Youta eyed him warily and you patted the oldest twin’s head, “Baby don’t you have something to say to Miya-san too?” your voice was softer towards him, Atsumu still couldn’t get used to your personality switch with the twins. He watches in amusement as the twin tries to sputter out a sorry.
“S-so...sorry…” he frowned, “I should’ve been a big boy and not call you names.”
“Youta, you too.” You urged the younger one.
The other twin frowned and also had trouble apologizing to him like his twin, “S-Sorry...I won’t do the same…” he apologized under his breath.
Atsumu couldn’t help but laugh at the dynamic they seem to have created, at least they weren’t as close-minded as they were before, “No sweat, kid.” He said, “I’m sorry for making you feel bad and for what my brother did too. Now, let’s get that cake shall we?”
You hold Yuuto on one hand and Youta on the other as you head to his car, after helping the kids at the backseat, he opens the front seat for you, “Oh, um…” You blinked, the sudden feeling of embarrassment creeped in, “You didn’t have to-”
He rolls his eyes in reply, “Get in, L/N-san. I don’t bite.”
The boys were quiet at the back first until Atsumu tried to strike a conversation with them, “What made you guys like volleyball?”
Youta, being the more open one, suddenly jumps on his seat, “ ‘Kaasan has an old volleyball at home! We saw it and started asking her about it!”
“Oh?” he stops at the traffic light and stares at you, quite surprised since he never pegged you to keep something of his after the break-up, “Didn’t know you kept my old memorabilia with you.”
Yuuto’s eyes seem to widen when he hears that, “No way, that was yours?” he sputters out, shocked.
“Yeah.” he laughed, starting the car again when the light turned green, eyes crinkling in amusement, “Your ‘kaasan and I used to be very close before. I used to sleepover and leave some of my stuff at her place.”
“Hm.” you clicked your tongue, recalling those times when Atsumu would just come in your home unannounced like you both lived together, “He was incredibly all over the place and messy like you two.”
“Wow!” Youta grins, seemingly excited, “What was kaasan like, jiji? I bet she was super nice and caring and a super good friend!”
The look of amusement never left his face as he agreed to the young boy, the rest of the ride was filled with Youta being overly-excited and asking Atsumu about you during college and about how you met him, “We were in the same class.” You replied, seemingly indifferent by it. You were used to this question before.
“Nope.” He replied, popping the p, an amused smirk worming its way to his face as he recalls differently since he never told you how he met you, “I saw your mom around a lot during the first few months of school.”
You were turned silent by his story, you didn’t know this part. You always thought that the first time you and Atsumu got acquainted was in that minor class you took during the second semester, “...I had also accidentally hit your mom with one of my serves while she was looking for a friend.” He recounts, parking the car in front of a very aesthetically-looking cake shop.
Your brows furrowed in deep thought, that was him? How come-
“Your ‘kaasan’s too famous, she probably doesn’t even remember the minimal interaction we had.” he joked, feigning hurt.
“Wow mom, I bet you must’ve hated jiji when he hit you with those super powerful serves!”
“She probably would if she remembered.”
You take the kids out of the car but Youta was still too entranced by Atsumu that he went ahead and wobbled next to him. The tall volleyball player was nice enough to match the younger one’s pace as they walked towards the shop, “Traitor.” You heard Yuuto mutter as you trailed behind him.
“I thought you forgave him.”
“Won’t stop watchin’ at him though, ‘kaasan.”” He grumbled but you can tell he was starting to slowly soften up to the blonde.
Atsumu (after much persistence) paid for the cakes and even got you a sugar-free one, Youta was very elated as soon as his cake was served and Yuuto was muttering something about how unfair it was as he started to stuff on hiw own slice, the blonde laughed at the contrasting personalities. They were so alike yet so different at the same time.
It reminded him so much of ‘samu and him back then.
“Oh, wait a moment. I have to pick up this phone call. Would you mind watching them for a sec?” You asked, Atsumu shakes his head to the side and he watches you exit the shop and take the call, the familiar expression of your creased forehead and narrowed eyes coming into play.
“Jiji, have you ever met our otosan?” Youta suddenly asks.
Atsumu feels his heart waver, this was such a heavy topic to ask but Youta didn’t seem to know the weight of his words. Yuuto was quiet this time too, observing him intently, the blonde setter suddenly cleared his throat, “I heard your kaasan met your otosan right after she graduated early and left me suddenly.” he tried to smile, looking unaffected, “So no, I haven’t met him.”
“Is that why you're mad at ‘kaasan?” Yuuto suddenly asks, head tilt to the side, “Because she left you su-suddenly?” The boy seemed to have a problem with longer words but he seemed very perceptive for his age. ‘Gee, were kids always this nosy?’ the blonde setter thought.
“Did your mom tell you that?” Atsumu lilted, dodging the question well, munching on his cake.
“She said that she broke something really bad that you owned.” Yuuto disclosed, brows furrowed together as if he was thinking very hard about what you said, “And that she deserved it”
Silence engulfed the table for a moment as he felt his throat dry up with the new load of information, “Your ‘kaasan is a very strong woman,” he began. The boy's eyes, especially Yuuto’s, lights up at the compliment they heard, “And she doesn’t deserve anything bad. So when someone tries to do something bad to her, even me, make sure you give’em a good spike.”
“Really?”
“Really, kiddo.” He hums in agreement, “You have to protect your ‘kaasan since your otosan isn’t here anymore.”
Youta’s eyes flicker at the mention of their father, “Jiji, you’re so funny.” he laughs very suddenly.
Atsumu’s brow upturns at the sudden statement of the twin.
“Otosan isn’t dead.” Atsumu feels his shoulder tense at those words, it seems like the twins were giving him such a field day today with questions and new information, “ ‘Kaasan says that he’s off somewhere following his dreams and he’ll come back soon.”
Tumblr media
Atsumu wants to ask about a lot of things.
He wants to ask about what Youta said, he wants to ask who the fucking asshole was, he wants to ask why you’re waiting for him when he left you hanging by a thread there with two kids.
He really does but when he drops you off at your home and a sudden troubled expression graces your features when you see an older woman standing there, he knows that it isn’t the right time. Instead, he quietly says goodbye and watches the interaction closely from a distance. A bit of worry filling him since he didn’t like that expression you were showing.
The twins didn’t seem to know who the older woman was but judging by her body language she knew you very well.
Come to think of it, her features were very familiar. Cold eyes, (h/c) hair, a very familiar facial feature.
Could it be-
“Y/N…” she tries to call out but you immediately walk past her, paying her no attention. He feels nervous, “Y/N, please don’t ignore me. I’m your okaasan-”
Suddenly he realizes why he has never met your family at all.
Judging by the interaction he sees, you were anything but close with them and that your relationship with them was stagnant (it probably worsened since you got kids at an early age and the father left you to dry). The kids probably don’t even know who that woman was, you continue to ignore her as you sons look at her warily.
When she starts to get physical, he gets out of the car and tries to stop the women from getting any closer to you and the boys, “What are you doing? Don’t you know who I am-” the woman tries to yell her way through but the blonde notices how you flinch away from her as soon as you hear her loud voice and hide the kids behind you as if you were protecting them.
“She doesn’t want to see you or have her near her kids, so please leave before I call security.” Atsumu tried to calm the situation down, not wanting to raise his voice, he could be wrong about his assumptions and he didn’t want to let your mom see him in a bad light.
“You don’t understand-”
“Obaasan.” his voice was anything but nice and friendly now, he wanted to try and respect the woman who brought you to this world, he really does, but right now he wouldn’t mind calling the cops on her if she resorted to making a scene here,  “Please leave before I call for security.”
Your mother grips on her expensive handbag tight and with one last glance to you, she immediately walks away. You don’t notice how you’re shaking and that Youta is crying behind you while Yuuto is trying his best to calm his twin down by insulting him and calling him a crybaby.
“L/N-san, are you-”
“I’m fine.” You cut him off, taking in a few deep breaths to calm you down, “I’m fine.”
He grabs your wrist and stares at you dead in the eye, “You’re shaking, Y/N.” He suddenly says your name softly, you're scared that if he goes nearer, he’d hear your ranging heart beat so you take a step further back and let go of his hold.
Atsumu narrows his eyes and tightens his lips at your response but decides against it, instead he turns to Youta and Yuuto, “I have a game next week and I got extra tickets, would you like to watch? The adlers and I will be playing, I heard one of ya likes Tobio-chan so much.”
Youta finally stops crying as soon as he hears the mention of free tickets and turns to a bundle of excited energy. Yuuto even starts jumping up and down at the mention of Kageyama Tobio.
Atsumu still has a lot of questions for you though, about your family, why you haven’t mentioned them, or the fact that their asshole of a father just left you to fulfill his dreams (he’s angry, very angry especially about this one) yet when he sees the small smile on your lips as you watch your kids jump up and down.
He holds back.
Those questions can wait another day.

I’m reading another book with a protagonist in the ‘gentle giant’ mould, and I’m realising how it’s gone from being a something I vibe with to something that rubs me up the wrong way.
You know the type. The guy is a himbo. He’s built like a man-mountain, but he is generous and kind and considerate to the ladies in a setting whilst others aren’t. He’s in a world where strength is power, and plenty of men are willing to start fights, but he can step in and sit them down. He could beat everyone up if he wanted to throw his weight around, but he doesn’t. He only fights when he has to.
That’s pointed out like some sort of contradiction: look, this guy could be violent like the others and be great at it, but he’s decided to be good instead. Isn’t it great, how he's overcome his nature? Born into the body of a thug, but choosing to be a decent person? He is always pitted against cruel, bitter little men, and that contrast is also pointedly made. See, they are born into pacifist bodies and choose to be violent, whereas he is born into a violent body and chooses peace. Isn’t it a miracle?
Except that it’s really the other way around.
Perhaps it’s easier to be violent when you’re a giant, but it’s also easier to be gentle. If everybody already respects you as this hulking presence and backs down when you stand up to them, you don’t need to fight. People only need to fight when they aren’t respected as a threat, and need to prove it. When you’re walking around in a big happy cloud of strength and confidence, it’s also a lot easier to be kind and patient than if you were downtrodden and miserable.
I’ve always found that it is far easier to be magnanimous in victory than gracious in defeat. It’s much easier for the person in the privileged, happy position to extend a hand to the person hurting than the other way around. We cover that in social justice discourse all the time. It’s easier for the person on top of the oppression dynamic to say they are being rational rather than emotional. It’s wrong for them to tone-police someone who is understandably angry and fed-up with what they have to deal with every day, just because they’re shielded from those issues and can talk about them casually.
But it’s something that social justice adjacent spaces also struggle with. I’ve seen too many Hollywood actors paraded out to lecture men on how to be a feminist ally, as if these handsome, rich, famous guys have any shared life experience with the incels who actually need their words. As if they have any idea how their hatred is formed in insecurity and jealously, desperation for affection and validation life has never given them, when they have lived a life beloved and showered in more attention - including romantic and sexual - than they know what to do with.
Or you get a similar thing with popular, mainstream celebrities coming out to condemn online trolling. It reminds me of a high school setting, where people are oblivious to the various forms of bullying. Imagine there’s one guy in a class who is perhaps neuroatypical, perhaps from a poor household, always seen as a bit shabby and weird. The other kids exclude him. The popular kid invites everyone in the class to a party apart from him. There is one empty chair in the classroom, and it’s the one next to him. Nobody wants to sit with him at lunch. At breaks they gossip in closed circles, occasionally laughing and turning around to look at him.
Nobody ‘bullies’ him in any tangible way that can be shown. But it hurts, day after day after day, being the creepy gross guy who nobody wants to talk to, the guy with no friends. Perhaps he starts acting out for attention. Perhaps, not able to be socialised properly, he lacks tact and hasn’t had his rough edges smoothed off by human company. Maybe he becomes a real edgelord and starts making offensive comments and lashing out because it’s the only way people will listen. He will then be called the class bully, when in fact the whole class are also sort of bullying him through exclusion.
Having some pop darling come out and criticise the online versions of these people is about as much use as having the high school prom king, the guy who hosted that party but everyone but one, come out and condemn this loner: the person people like him helped to ostracise in the first place as a weirdo who didn’t fit in. Again, they have no shared life experience they can judge them on, and coming out to gloat that they have the privilege to be magnanimous in victory is... well, literally adding insult to injury.
But that’s the dynamic stories seem to love. Villains who are pathetic and friendless and have no love in their life, small ugly men with a deformity or disability or just neurodivergence, compared to our hero who is handsome and popular and who then lectures the villain on the power of friendship! But he villain is probably the way they are because they have never been properly loved and always felt like an outcast. it’s criticising the upset loser by praising how well behaved the winner is, when it’s easier for them! In fact, if their lives were reversed, just as with the incel and the Hollywood hunk, they would probably have radically different attitudes and personalities.
I used to buy into the idea that this gentle giant was some sort of contradiction in personality and form, but as I’ve gained life experience I’ve found that the two are basically aligned. What would be more interesting is a character who is feeble, vulnerable, trampled by life, and who still finds the inner strength to be kind. A character who is judged and scorned and mocked and belittled, but who chooses peace. A character who is rejected and excluded, but who still chooses to smile and be friendly.
That’s what takes real steel, to wake up every day and choose to be kind when you get nothing in return. Not being a strong, charismatic hero surrounded by love interests and sidekicks, getting patted on the back that they somehow manage to be a decent human being despite all of that privilege and love and validation. When that’s contrasted with those villains, it just feels like punching down.

Asian drama female lead passivity
I feel like a lot of aspects of female lead (FL) passivity is discussed (the fish kiss being the most famous example), but I wanted to systematically analyze each trope under the theory of female passivity and its feminist implications.
This topic has been stuck in my mind ever since I read a blog years ago (literally like six years ago so I’m sorry I have no idea where it is, I can’t link it) talking about how intimacy in Asian dramas is always portrayed as something women relent to giving up half-heartedly, and men one sidedly pursue. Women are chaste, men are lustful, and women are yielding to men, that is the essential message.
Tumblr media
This dynamic plays out in Western media as well--the movie Don Jon is a super interesting analysis comparing how women are indoctrinated by romcoms, to how men are indoctrinated by porn. So women attach grand romantic gestures and romantic commitment to their self worth, because that’s what the girl gets in her happy ending, while men attach it to sexual prowess/having women do kinky sexual favors.
This dynamic is super harmful because it works to suppress female sexuality, as well as male emotionality. People are always surprised when a woman would rather just want sex (or a career) over a romantic commitment. And men are applauded for having the bare minimum of emotional awareness because it’s so rare.
I think a form of Asian drama female lead (FL) passivity that is most talked about is the infamous “fish kiss.” See exhibit A:
Tumblr media
The guy initiates the kiss on the usually unsuspecting girl, as if the girl ever going in for the kiss herself would be too sexually aggressive. And as if even enjoying the kiss would be too much, they have her just stand there eyes wide open. It’s awkward, and even slightly funny to watch, but our critique often ends here. But I think the fish kiss is a symptom of a much deeper problem.
You will notice that female lead passivity is present in all physical interactions between the romantic interests.
The pull in hug:
Tumblr media
Which sometimes the FL looks uncomfortable to frightened in:
Tumblr media
I even found a meme, so I know I’m not the only who thinks this is weird:
Tumblr media
(meme/photo credit: https://goliath1357.tumblr.com/post/27115253892/kdramareasons-awkward-one-sided-hugs-k-drama)
What I don’t like about this trope is first of all, it makes female consent seem less romantic. It romanticizes this idea of male pursuit/female passivity, the man will protect her, the man will pursue her (basically like an object), the man will do all the work in making the relationship progress, etc., and it romanticizes this dynamic to women--this is easy to romanticize for us, because to the most of us that aren’t being constantly pursued by two hot men, this pursuit dynamic seems like a dream boat. Often the kdrama female lead (due to the Initial Misunderstanding trope) will even dislike and push away the male lead--and yet he still pursues her, how romantic! -_- Except in real life, the guy aggressively pursuing you and ignoring you disinterest is not romantic.
And the issue is on both sides, because it teaches women to just stand there, not express consent, and not express sexual/intimacy enthusiasm when we’re feeling it (that would be ~unladylike~). And on the other side, it teaches men to do all the pursuing and to assume that a girl standing frozen, wide eyed, and often looking scared as you kiss her, is consent. Sometimes the guy even interprets a clear “no” as consent. (Honestly I’m not even sure if these Asian drama writers are thinking along the lines of “xyz is consent,”...like I’m not sure how often they even think of the concept of consent tbh.)
But anyways, passivity. is not. consent!!!! That’s why we have the slogan “Yes mean yes,” meaning both parties must have enthusiastic, clear consent, for respectful intimacy. Asian dramas discourage women from expressing an enthusiastic “yes,” and it teaches men not to expect this “yes,” so they can steamroll past passivity and even rejection.
And I know some people will be boohooing me on this. “But sudden kisses and hugs are so romantic!” people will say. But what is “romantic,” like many things, is a social construct. We think things are romantic because they’ve always been presented to us as romantic, with swelling music in the background and the implicit understanding that anything is ok because they are Soulmates(TM) that end up happy together. We construct our idea of what is romantic largely out of media.
But that is not real life, and carrying those messages over to real life (as we inevitably all do), is dangerous. I just moved to Japan so this especially hits close to home for me: I dress conservatively by American standards, but I couldn’t bring a quarter of my clothes when I moved because I worried men on trains would interpret them as revealing, and therefore I would be “asking for it.” I, and I’m sure many women will feel me on this, think about and fear sexual assault very often. And when we don’t enshrine active consent, we perpetuate rapist culture.
Since “romantic” is anything our society constructs it to be, let’s romanticize enthusiastic consent! (like this NCT song!!) I think sudden kisses can be cute when you’ve established boundaries that it’s is ok, but it scares me that men and women are watching this and thinking suddenly kissing a person you haven’t discussed boundaries/intimacy with at all is cute. It’s all fun and games when it’s the hot male lead kissing the girl you know he’s going to end up with, but it’s not cute when it’s real life men thinking they’re entitled to women’s bodies.
Other examples of female passivity:
I stopped watching Moonlight Drawn over the Clouds at precisely this scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6I0WXeD-dc&ab_channel=KBSWORLDTV
because it was so painful to watch her sitting there like a fish as the guys got these cool fight scenes. Like girllll literally do anything, throw a rock, something! First dramas routinely disable the female characters by making the male characters the able fighters, but even if you’re not an able fighter you can do more than just sit there like a lame duck -_- Especially the parts of these scenes where someone is standing over the girl with the sword and the writers don’t give the girl the presence of mind to simply run away, but they give the guy the presence of mind to somersault into the room, jump over ten monkey bars, slash the antagonist, and catch the girl bridal style on his way down. I guess the damsel in distress trope is as old as the book, but just the complete passivity so many female characters show in fight scenes as they need to be saved is really annoying and disempowering.
I think the worst part is their faces, they’re all like omg! this is so sad!
Tumblr media
well girl you could have done literally ANYTHING other than sit there as he took ten bullets for you lmao. Women don’t exist to stand by and be saved!!! This is a historical drama but the modern drama version is when the guy is getting beat up by bullies or whatever and the girl just stands by and does nothing but look upset.
Another good trope that is under this passivity theme is the double wrist grab, where we not only have ONE male lead (ML) manhandling the FL, but TWO MLs. Ahh yes the only thing better than forcibly ignoring consent and the FL’s wishes is TWO men doing it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I heard this recently even happened in True Beauty...which...that drama...truly I thought Kdramas were progressing until I saw how much people were hyping up that mess of misogyny (not to mention how boringly predictable it was).
I can’t quite express this next trope in a screenshot, but something I also see a lot of is the ML professing his love to the FL and she sort of just stands there like O_O. Like she’s just sort of this object that sits there being admired? It’s just such an unnatural way to react to someone professing their love for you, and these scenes drag on for many minutes of just the ML’s dialogue so the female actress, having no lines, has no choice but to sit there O_O. Like give her lines! Give her reactions! Give her anything other than being wide eyed!!!!
And these physical interactions represent deeper emotional passivity in the female lead.
I’ve noticed it’s almost always the trend of the male lead falls later, but falls harder, and ultimately he puts more energy into making the relationship progress. Again, this buys into female fantasy, but it is an unhealthy fantasy that is grounded, I think, in our insecurities, and our fear of putting ourselves out there (so we would rather have someone pursue us than put ourselves out there and meet someone halfway).
This emotional passivity is why, weirdly enough, sometimes I will really like the drama because the girl is very stubbornly, openly, and aggressively pursuing the guy. A case of this is Itazura na Kiss, or Mischievous Kiss (there’s a Jdrama, Kdrama, and anime--I only watched the anime). Now the guy is downright meannnnn in Mischievous Kiss, this was not a healthy relationship at all, but there was something refreshing about the girl. Sure her aggression was in pursuing a man, but at least it was aggression, and I’d always only seen any hint of female sexuality/actively pursuing as something very stigmatized.
I think a sister trope to the passivity trope is the innocence trope. The guy will literally take the initiative to profess his undying love to the FL and she’ll be like “what?? omg stop teasing you’re joking ahahha.” Why do FLs need to be so oblivious/innocent? I think it caters to the way media is seen through a male gaze but that’s a trope to deconstruct another time.

Star-crossed Lovers
Summary:
"Have you heard of the story behind the Qixi festival?" Childe said mysteriously, waddling a finger at their little traveller friends. "It's about a pair of star-crossed lovers who can only meet once a year. It's a very old Liyue folktale, but I've heard rumours that this story was actually based on an adeptus and his lover. They are an Alpha and Omega pair that could only meet once a year.”
“An Alpha and Omega meeting only once a year?!” Paimon was horrified by the news. “Is that even possible?!”
“Adeptus…” Aether thought back to all the adepti he and Paimon had met so far. The face of one particular adeptus flashed across his mind. The Guardian Yaksha, Xiao. Like his element, he was the only adeptus that travelled around Liyue without a territory or home to call his own. “Do you know who?”
"Well now..." Childe's eyes flicked to the raven-haired man sitting beside him. "Who knows? It's just a rumour, after all."

“The Qixi Festival?” Paimon asked, floating next to Aether and staring at the Fatui Harbinger—or former Fatui now—sitting across the table. “What is that?”
“It’s a festival dedicated to a famous folktale in Liyue called The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl,” Childe explained. “It’s a story about two star-crossed lovers. They even got poems for it but I’m not good with poems so I can’t tell you much about that.”
“Through the varying shapes of the delicate clouds, the sad message of the shooting stars, a silent journey across the Milky Way.
One meeting of the Cowherd and Weaver amidst the golden autumn wind and jade-glistening dew, eclipses the countless meetings in the mundane world.
The feelings soft as water, the ecstatic moment unreal as a dream, how can one have the heart to go back on the bridge made of magpies?
If the two hearts are united forever, why do the two persons need to stay together—day after day, night after night?”
Zhongli recited the poem before bringing a cup to his lips and enjoyed the aroma of the finely brewed tea.
“The story is about a young cowherd by the name of Niulang. He is but an ordinary human who fell in love with a goddess name Zhinu.” Zhongli glanced over to the two outlanders. “They’ve met and fallen in love within the mortal world, but their love was forbidden by the goddess of Heaven and forced to part. Separated by the Milky Way, they can only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month—"
"Which is August, by the way," Childe prompted helpfully.
"—through a bridge made of magpies to spend one night together.”
“That’s…that’s so sad!” Paimon sniffled. “Why celebrate something so sad?”
“Half a glass of water can be seen as half empty, yet it could also be seen as half full. It is but a matter of perspective,” the raven-haired man chuckled. “If you look at it from another way, today is a joyous day for the two lovers to finally meet, thus should be celebrated.”
“But you know, there have been rumours going around that The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl was based on a true story~” Childe said mysteriously, waddling a finger at their traveller friends. “They say that this is a story of an adeptus and his lover. They are an Alpha and Omega pair that could only meet once a year.”
“An Alpha and Omega meeting only once a year?!” Paimon was horrified by the news. “Is that even possible?!”
“Adeptus…” Aether thought back to all the adepti he and Paimon had met so far. The face of one particular adeptus flashed across his mind, but he shook it away. “Do you know who?”
“Who knows? It’s just a rumour.” Childe shrugged and leaned back in his chair. “Sure you’re not gonna stay for the festival? There’s plenty of good food at this time.”
“Weeeell—” Before Paimon could scream ‘yes’, Aether held out a hand over her and shook his head apologetically.
“Thank you, but we really can’t,” the blond politely declined. “We need to head to Inazuma as soon as possible.”
“Guess it can’t be helped then.” Childe wasn't surprised by the blond's rejection. He knew how desperate the boy was in searching for his sister. He rested his head against his palm and grinned at the two. “I guess this is goodbye, huh?”
Aether nodded before looking at the Snezhnayan worriedly. “Will you be alright?”
“Of course,” Childe laughed, finding it funny that the blond would worry for his well-being of all people. However, when he spoke the next words, his icy blue eyes darkened despite the smile never faltering on his lips. “They already got the Geo Archon’s Gnosis. They wouldn’t risk coming to Liyue again just for the head of a little traitor.”
“Aether, Paimon,” Zhongli spoke up, drawing the two travellers’ attention to him. “I ask for both of you to not mention what has transpired, as well as my identity, to anyone—especially the adepti.”
“Why? Wouldn’t they be happy to know you’re alive?" Paimon couldn't understand the archon's decision of keeping silent on the matter.
Zhongli didn't speak for a long time. He stared at the tea swirling in his cup before looking back up to meet their gazes.
"Please," was all he said.
"Ok...we won't tell anyone," Aether promised.
Paimon looked like she had many things to say, but in the end, she kept her mouth shut and nodded as well.
Zhongli smiled and brought his hands up, making a gesture that the two outlanders were now overly familiar with, for the people of Liyue always did this gesture whenever they showed their thanks.
"It will get a bit boring without you two around," Childe lamented.
“Oh, we’ll come back!” Paimon chirped confidently.
“Be careful in Inazuma. The Archon of Electro does not take kindly to outlanders,” Zhongli cautioned.
“We will. Thank you for everything, Zhongli, Childe.”
Aether waved before he and Paimon left the Liuli Pavilion.
The two men watched them go. It was only after they couldn’t hear their footsteps anymore did Zhongli turned to his companion.
“Shall we dine then?" He waved a hand at the untouched feast laid before them.
"Only if you get me some forks. These chopsticks are seriously hard to use." Childe laughed, trying to pick up his chopsticks only for one to drop onto his plate. "How are you feeling?" His question was seemingly nonchalant as he continued to play with the chopsticks, but Zhongli could hear the bitterness lingering in his tone.
"I'm fine," he assured the Alpha. "The loss of Gnosis only means I cannot use my power. It does not affect me otherwise."
"Hm..." Childe tried using the chopsticks again but this time both clattered back onto the table. "Aaah, I give up!" He threw his arms into the air dramatically before flopping towards the Geo Archon and rested his forehead against that stiff shoulder.
"You should have run when I told you to,” he mumbled quietly. “Now you're stuck with me."
Zhongli reached one hand up and combed his fingers through the soft copper coloured hair. "Do you not want to stay with me?"
Childe snorted and looked up to meet those golden eyes clear without any other intentions. Seriously, how this archon remained so pure and oblivious despite being so old was beyond him.
"Nah, I'll stick around. Someone needs to keep an eye on you when you go out."
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
Aether walked through the crowded street of Liyue harbour. He glanced around at the people setting up stalls and stands, preparing for the Qixi festival. Everywhere was rowdy with joy and happiness, so much that it almost made Aether wanted to stay. Almost.
“Let’s go, Paimon!” Aether grabbed Paimon who was drooling over some dumplings and dragged her away. After finally making it out of the packed city, he finally asked Paimon the question he didn’t dare to ask in front of Childe and Zhongli.
“Hey Paimon, is it bad for Alpha and Omega to be apart?”
“Of course!” Paimon shouted before remembering that this worldly outlander was clueless about the dynamics here since that didn’t exist in his original world.
“I told you how Alphas and Omegas are different than Betas, right?”
“Yeah…something about Omega could give birth regardless of gender?” Aether was still a little weirded out by that one. He wasn’t disgusted or anything, he just didn’t understand how that was possible.
“Yes, but when it comes to Alpha and Omega, once they found a partner, they’re bonded for life. They got this thing call a mating bite where they leave scars on each other’s necks—right over their scent glands!” Paimon pointed at her own neck. “I don’t know how it works, but I heard that it lets them connect on a…spiritual level? Basically, their partner means everything to them. Separating them is the same as taking a part of them away.”
“Is that so…?” Aether thought of his sister. He could relate to how it felt to have someone important ripped away from his side.
“Hey, Aether, look!”
“Hm?” Seeing Paimon pointing at the sky, he looked up and found that it wasn’t the sky she was pointing at, but Mt. Tianheng.
He put a hand over his eyes, protecting them from the bright sunlight and was able to make out the silhouette of a person standing at the very top.
“Is that…Xiao?”
As though hearing the call of his name, the adeptus above moved. In a few quick steps, the famed Conqueror of Demons ran down the mountain like a graceful mountain goat and landed before the two of them. Aether was certain that even if he jumped down without a glider, he still couldn’t beat the speed the adeptus displayed just now.
“I hear that you are departing Liyue,” Xiao said, his face unreadable as usual.
“Yes, we’re heading to Inazuma.” Aether nodded.
“The Archon of Electro does not welcome outlanders. Best to be on your guard.”
“You said the same thing as Zhongli,” Paimon giggled while Aether fought the urge to facepalm.
"Paimon!" He hissed.
“Zhongli?” Although Xiao’s expression didn’t change, they could hear the question in his voice. Paimon froze when she realized she had just mentioned the archon right in front of the adeptus—one of the people Zhongli specifically told them not to tell.
“I-it's nothing! Just a...a friend!" Paimon stammered. She was starting to sweat bullets with Aether glancing nervously at Xiao.
Fortunately for them, the adeptus was never the noisy type nor did he have any interest in other people's affairs—mortals especially.
"S-so!" Paimon shouted, trying to erase the previous conversation by raising her voice up ten notches. "What are you doing here?"
“You offered your aid to Liyue in times of need,” Xiao replied neutrally. “It is only courteous for me to see you off. I will escort you to the outskirt of the city. Come.”
“Really?!” Paimon shouted in delight before shaking Aether by his arm. “With an adeptus opening a way for us, we’ll be out in no time!”
Aether nodded and hurried after Xiao.
As they walked, the blond couldn’t help but keep looking at the adeptus’ face. Xiao ignored the boy in the beginning, but eventually, he seemed to have enough of the other’s staring and finally turned to look at him.
“What is it?” He questioned apathetically.
“Ah, sorry!” Aether quickly shook his head. “It’s just…you seem happy today?”
That caught Xiao off guard. Although his face didn’t betray his feelings, his steps faltered for a split second before he collected himself.
The blond traveller briefly wondered if he said something he shouldn’t have. He just thought the adeptus might be in a good mood considering how much he was talking today.
“…Do I?” Aether wasn’t sure if that question was directed at him. In fact, he didn’t know if he was even supposed to hear it, considering how soft the adeptus’ voice was. Xiao was already looking away, eyes locked on the mountains in the distance.
“Eh? Really?” Paimon ogled Xiao, but couldn’t tell what part of the adeptus screamed happiness to her companion. “Oh, could it be because of the festival?”
“Festival?” Xiao thought back to the streets of Liyue harbour that had been rowdy all morning. “…Was that what they were doing?”
“You didn’t know about the Qixi Festival?” Aether asked. He thought for sure that Xiao would know, considering how long he had been living in Liyue for.
“You didn’t know about the story of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl?!” Paimon gasped in bewilderment, as though she didn’t found out about this story just minutes ago.
“I have little interest in stories amongst the mortals,” Xiao stated plainly.
“Then I guess that rumour was fake after all,” Paimon grumbled, looking at Aether in disappointment.
“Well, it’s just rumour.” Aether shrugged before finally noticing something strange. They had been walking for a while now, but hadn’t come across a single monster.
No, not just that.
Now that he took a close look around the area, there wasn’t a single monster or enemy in sight!
“Where are all the monsters?” Aether couldn’t help but voice out his thought.
“Hey, you’re right!” Paimon spun around in the air. “I don’t see a single one around!”
“It is due to my Heat,” Xiao spoke up in front of them.
“H-Heat?!” Paimon squeaked, jaw nearly dropping onto the floor at what came out of the adeptus’ mouth. “Wait, you’re an Omega?!”
Aether’s eyes flew wide. An Omega?!
Then did that mean Xiao was capable of…
Aether’s eyes nearly dropped to Xiao’s stomach before he had to force his gaze back up. Thankfully, the adeptus was walking in front so he didn’t notice that small action of the traveller’s.
Aether knew about Heats and why Paimon looked so nervous. Once a year, fully grown Omegas will enter something called Heat, where they let out sweet pheromones to attract nearby Alphas and find potential partners.
After an Omega and Alpha bonded, the Omega’s Heat will then trigger the Alpha’s Rut. It was extremely dangerous to go near an Omega in Heat because that was when Alphas were most protective of their mates and will attack anyone that got too close, regardless of whatever reason they had.
But…if Xiao was in Heat, shouldn't there be Alphas around going crazy after his scent? And Omegas only enter Heat somewhere between February and March, right now was August.
Also, why would Xiao’s Heat scare monsters away? Was it because he was an adeptus?
Aether knew Xiao wouldn’t answer all of his questions, so he only asked the very last one. Xiao spared a glance at the golden-haired boy before turning his attention back to his path.
“The stronger an Omega’s pheromone is, the more attraction they will gain from Alphas. Monsters and demons could also be drawn by an Omega’s scent if their Heats are strong enough. Once mated, the Omega’s scent will be infused with their Alpha’s, changing into a smell that will be revolting to anyone that is not their mate.” Xiao stopped and turned around to face them. “This is as far as I can take you. Do not let your identities as outlanders be discovered in Inazuma.”
With that, the adeptus took off at a speed so fast that the two barely had the time to react before he was gone.
Aether and Paimon stood (float) there for a long moment before the adeptus’ parting words finally sunk into their brains.
“Wait…you don’t suppose he was saying that he’s…mated?!” Paimon shouted. “A-and his Heat! Isn’t it right on time for the Qixi festival?!”
“Then the story of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl is actually…” Aether trailed off before the two of them shared a look.
“No way!” Paimon laughed.
“Yeah!” Aether agreed.
That was a dumb rumour after all.
As for why Xiao’s Heat was in August and not February or March...he was the Guardian Yaksha. Things must work differently for these higher beings.
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
Xiao stood on top of the mountain, Aureolin eyes scanning over the landscape before stopping towards a certain direction.
Alphas can always track their Omegas no matter where they are in the world. Although Xiao was an Omega, he was a yaksha as well as an adeptus, so his senses were naturally sharper than those of mortals. Even so, he could only feel the general direction of where his Alpha was.
His Alpha was aware he was on the move and was trailing after him, tracking him for half a day now. That man was getting closer as time passed, and along with it was Xiao’s increasing heartbeat.
It had been a whole year since they last met.
Before being mated, Xiao always preferred to pass his Heat high up in the mountains where monsters and people were scarce. However, his Alpha came from a nation without high mountains like Liyue. Although that person said it didn’t bother him, Xiao still wanted him to at least feel comfortable, so he never chose a place too far off the ground.
That was why this year, Xiao decided to spend his Heat in Jueyun Karst. It was the quietest place he could think of with fewer disturbances from mortals. He had already informed Moon Carver beforehand and the moment the adeptus heard the Conqueror of Demons would be coming to his territory to spend his Heat, he all but fled.
It wasn’t anything unusual. Before mating, other adepti would flee from him knowing how tempting his scent was. Now, they fled from him for the opposite reason. Xiao leaped off the cliff, dropping towards the ground at a rapid pace while summoning his spear into his hand.
With a thrust of his spear, the earth below him shook and the camp of monsters was annihilated in a split second. Without taking a break, he darted off towards the next area with monsters. While his scent naturally repelled these monsters, it would cause an issue if any of these monsters were to run amuck and get near the few humans dwelling here.
After swiftly dealing with all the monsters in the area, Xiao found a nice location up the waterfall with a small, deserted wooden house. The house looked like it hadn’t been used in years. The woods were falling apart, but not so much that he could see the inside.
Despite being an Omega, Xiao was never picky about where he spent his Heat. Or rather, he couldn’t afford to be picky. The purpose of an Omega’s Heat was to attract a partner and reproduce. As an adeptus, Xiao’s Heat could affect all living being miles away and draw them towards him.
It hadn’t started off like that.
In the beginning, his Heat was normal. It was still stronger than human Omegas, but Xiao was able to manage to deal with it on his own. Unfortunately as the years passed, his Heat became increasingly painful. The burn of the Heat would persist for days and the amount of pheromone his body release kept doubling.
His reluctance in finding a mate only made his body even more desperate.
The only one that he could ever consult with about his Heat was Rex Lapis who was the only other Omega he knew, yet the archon couldn’t find him any solution in solving his problem other than finding a mate. And so, every year around August, a bloodbath would always be shed. Demons and monsters would swarm towards him like ants towards their prey with Xiao at the center of it all, slaughtering anything that came to him.
Xiao let out a small sigh and stared at the pond before him.
He sat down on a piece of fallen log in front of the house and stared at the beautiful scenery. Despite being summer, the leaves in Jueyun Karst were always in the shade of autumn—just like Moon Carver.
Xiao loosened his collar, pulling them apart to reveal the scent glands on the base of his neck—one on each side. Both of his glands were marred with scars his Alpha left when he bit into them a thousand years ago. He rubbed his fingers absentmindedly over the jagged scar and began reminiscing the past.
The day they met was when Xiao’s Heat was at its worst. Having gone a thousand years without finding a mate, his body was finally breaking down.
Even without the countless demons surrounding him, he was dying.
His Heat had tortured his body for a whole month with no signs of going away. Every single one of his nerves was screaming in pain from the burning sensation coursing through his body. He didn’t even notice when a demon had raked its claws through the flesh on his back because he could no longer tell apart the pain.
His sight was starting to fail him, but that didn’t stop Xiao from piercing his spear through one demon and another. He might be dying, but he wasn’t going down without a fight. Even without his sight, he could rely on the rest of his senses to kill the demons.
And that was when he met him.
The man was not an adepti, but a human that gained immortally. He was a scholar travelling in Liyue to study the demons when he came across the battlefield littered with corpses of demons and monsters.
Xiao had little memories of how their encounter went. What he did remember was attacking the Alpha when he broke through the walls of demons and came towards him. Their spears met in a dangerous dance with whirlwinds of fire twirling around them.
The adeptus was fully prepared to meet his end, but when he woke up, the pain in his body was gone along with his Heat.
On his scent glands were two fresh bite marks, forever bounding him to an Alpha from another nation.
Xiao held no resentment towards the other Alpha for marking him because he knew that Alpha had done it to save him. In a way, that Alpha was also a victim because to complete the bond, the Alpha needed to let Xiao mark him as well. With his scent gland injected with the adeptus’ pheromone, he will start to experience Rut in August which only Xiao could sate.
Neither of them was the romantic type nor did they ever thought that one day they would have a mate. The two of them easily came to an arrangement for the Alpha to come to Liyue every year so they can spend their Rut and Heat together.
For the first couple of years, their relationship where purely on a physical level. Even now, Xiao didn’t know at what point did that changed. Words of love were never exchanged, but their relationship naturally shifted to that of lovers. Perhaps it was because they were similar that they understood one another without the need of words, or perhaps it was due to the bond established between them.
Whichever it was, Xiao was never more grateful.
The adeptus walked up to the house. With a wave of his hand, he sent a blast of wind into the old structure. He held back his power, but some shingles were still blown off from the force. He leaped back when a fume of dust blew out from the windows and doorway. He sent out a couple more blasts of wind until all the dust was blown out.
He walked into the house, looking around to find a table and a couple of chairs in the corner of the dining room. When he walked into the bedroom, he saw a bedframe weaved with bamboo. It was old and broken around the corner, but sturdy enough to support two people.
He ran his hand along the hard surface of the bamboo bed. It wasn’t the best, but this will do. Xiao lay down on the bed and closed his eyes. He was worn out. Running from Liyue Harbour to this place had taken some toll on his body, considering how much energy his body was already consuming to prepare for his Heat.
He bit the inside of his cheek when he felt tightness in his lower abdomen. Xiao stared at the wall of the small house. Although he could guess the general direction of his mate, he couldn’t tell how close or how far he was. He didn’t want to miss out on meeting his mate, but at the same time, he didn’t want his mate to see him so vulnerable.
In the end, exhaustion won and Xiao decided it should be fine if it was only a quick nap.
All he needed to do was to wake up before his mate arrives. It should have been easy, considering how he was a very light sleeper, but Xiao forgot to take into account how badly his body and mind missed his Alpha. He had forgotten how safe it felt knowing his Alpha by his side.
By the time he woke up, everything was pitch black around him.
Xiao took a deep breath and his lungs were filled with a comforting scent that only one person in this world has. He sat up and found a dark brown cloak draped over his body. He stared at the cloak, running his finger through the soft fabric before finding the familiar brown and blue animal ears decorations on the top of the hood. Behind him where his head was resting was a leather bag acting as a pillow for him.
Xiao brought the cloak up to his nose and took a small sniff. His Alpha’s scent was practically drenching the fabric, meaning the other must have been wearing this cloak not long ago. It was no wonder he didn’t wake up. With the Alpha’s scent wrapped around him like this, his body naturally deemed the surrounding safe and he ended up falling into a deeper slumber.
Xiao folded the cloak up and set it on the bed before walking out of the hunt. When he stepped outside, he was greeted by the backside of a person dressed in the same cloak as the one that was draped over him. The person had his hood pulled over his head with that pair of pointed ears sticking upward.
“You should sleep a bit longer,” the man spoke in a euphonious voice that made Xiao trembled. The Alpha never once turned back to look at him. His sun-kissed hand came out of the large sleeve of his cloak, picking up a stick lying by his feet and began to rearrange the campfire woods, causing the flames to burn even brighter.
The yaksha walked up to the man and sat next to him on the log with inches of space separating them.
“You should have waked me up.”
“You seemed like you needed rest,” the Alpha replied, turning his head to reveal his snow-white hair and beautifully sculpted face. That single flame red eye gazed at the Omega before turning back to the campfire. “It’s not like you to travel before your Heat like this.”
Although it sounded like the Alpha was merely stating a fact, Xiao knew the other was concerned.
“I was seeing someone off,” he explained.
Though curious, Alpha didn’t ask or push the Omega for details. He picked up a ladle and stirred the thick soup in the pot. Xiao stared at the brown soup that would never exist in Liyue and could smell the aroma of lamb being cooked inside. He remembered this soup. His mate made it for him the last time they met and he quite enjoyed it. If his memory was correct, it was called Torly.
While Xiao preferred lighter food and vegetables over meat, the coming of Heat would always make him crave higher calorie food so his body could store up energy.
“Do you need assistance?”
“No, just sit there and rest.” The Alpha reached into the sleeve of his cloak and pulled out a small box.
Xiao immediately recognized the packaging and design of the small box. It was a takeout box from Wangshu inn.
“Eat that for now. I’ll be done soon.” He set the box onto the Omega’s lap before returning to the task at hand.
Xiao carefully opened the box and just as he expected, inside was Almond Tofu. He stared at the beautiful and glossy white pudding with the light aroma of almond drifting into his nose. The Omega could tell how carefully the Alpha was when transporting this from how the delicate dessert wasn't broken or deformed in any ways.
“Thank you.”
He picked up the small wooden spoon inside and scooped out a small piece of the pudding. He put it into his mouth, enjoying the silkiness of the texture melting around his tongue. He ate slowly while observing his Alpha work, unaware of how his eyes would soften whenever he gazed upon this man.
After another ten minutes or so, the Alpha was done. He finished wrapping up the wrap in his hand and handed it to Xiao.
“This is?” Xiao accepted the wrap, looking at it curiously.
“It’s called Shawarma.” The Alpha poured the thick soup into a bowl and set it in front of the Omega.
Xiao took a bite into the wrap. Like all food his Alpha made for him, it had an unusual taste that did not exist in Liyue, but was delicious nonetheless.
The two of them ate with the only sound around them being the crackling of fire and the burbling sound of waterfall. They ate enjoying the presence of each other and the serenity around them. Even though they were both taking their time, their dinner only lasted about half an hour before it came to an end.
Xiao was gazing at the stars, lost in his own mind when his Alpha suddenly called out his name.
“Xiao.”
The Omega turned his head and saw his Alpha holding something to him. Without questioning anything, he opened his mouth and allowed the Alpha to push the glistening round bun-like thing into his mouth. Xiao’s mouth was soon filled with overwhelming sweetness that made him hummed lightly.
The adeptus cared little for sweets and like all citizens of Liyue, he wasn’t good at handling anything overly sweet. The only exception was during his Heat, where sugar became something like comfort food to the Omega. He chewed on the dessert and realized it was some sort of bread. The entire thing was soaked in the sweet syrup which made Xiao wonder if the dough was cooked together with this syrup or was the syrup added in later. Distracted, Xiao didn’t notice his Alpha move until he felt fingers wrapping around his chin, turning his head around before a pair of lips pressed against his.
Xiao closed his eyes and leaned forward, parting his lips to allow their lips to better mold against one another. Their tongues were tangled in a dance with the Alpha stealing the remaining sweetness from his mouth.
“Cyno…” Xiao managed to call out his Alpha’s name before a hand slipped behind his head and his lips were sealed once more.
Xiao let out a small, muffled groan against the Alpha’s mouth. The restriction he put around his desire was slowly starting to crumble. He wrapped his arms around the Alpha’s neck while the Alpha’s other arm snaked around his waist.
The last distance between them was gone and their bodies slotted together perfectly as they kissed.
He missed him.
He missed him so much, but there was nothing they can do. They have responsibilities to their own nations so neither of them could risk leaving for too long. The distance between them also didn’t allow them to meet up frequently. The only time they could meet was during this time so they could spend their Heat and Rut together. They may have met a thousand years ago, but even mortal couples had spent more time together in a lifetime compared to the two immortals.
“Ah…!” Xiao’s head threw back when the Alpha dug his face into his neck, pushing aside his collar and bit down onto his scent gland. Xiao’s face instantly flared up in red. Despite not displaying it on his face, he was embarrassed upon realizing he had left his collar open.
Sumeru was a very open nation where Alphas and Omegas walk around showing off the scent glands on their necks—Xiao knew that much from how his mate dressed. However, in Liyue, scent glands were regarded the same as private parts. Going outside with their scent glands shown was the same as going outside stark naked.
Cyno hummed, his voice sending vibration against the sensitive gland which in turn made the Omega’s body quiver.
Xiao hastily pulled away from Cyno and closed his collar, much to the Alpha’s amusement.
“You looked like you have something on your mind,” Cyno pointed out. It was an off-handed remark, but Xiao realized his mate must have taken notice to his change of mood and decided to lighten him up.
“It’s nothing,” Xiao was turning his head away when his chin was caught by the Alpha once more. His head was guided back, cobalt yellow eyes meeting orange-red one. The Alpha didn’t say anything and silently stared into Xiao’s eyes.
Xiao felt his throat constricted before he reached his hands up and carefully took hold of the Alpha’s face. He brushed that long white bang aside to reveal the other eye hidden underneath. He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss upon the scarred eyelid.
“There have been many things happening lately,” Xiao sighed. He slipped out of the Alpha’s arms and returned to his seat next to him, but now the distance between them was gone. Their shoulders were touching and their bodies so close that they could feel each other’s body heat.
“I’ve heard about Rex Lapis on my way here.” Cyno stared at the scenery before them. “Do you believe that the God of Contracts has died?”
“I don’t know,” Xiao admitted quietly. Deep down, he believed that Rex Lapis was still alive. Killing an archon was no small feat but then again, it wasn’t impossible either. “I have never imagined a future without Rex Lapis, so such situation still feels surreal to me.”
“Then perhaps you’ve been taking your archon for granted.”
“Perhaps.” Xiao wasn’t angry by his mate’s blunt words. It was true. He had been taking the archon’s existence for granted.
They all had.
All of them assumed everything will remain the same year after years. With Rex Lapis around, the mortals of Liyue never truly paved their own path. They have always been following the path given to them by their archon.
“How long will you be staying?”
“I took a month off from the Academia.”
Xiao nodded. Taking away the travelling time, it will be eight days.
“…How’s your body?” The Alpha asked after a moment of silence.
“There is still a bit of time,” Xiao said after closing his eyes to check on the condition of his body. Even sitting here, he could feel his body heat steadily rising. His heartbeat had started to quicken too, though Xiao didn’t know if that was due to the heat or the presence of his mate.
“Come to think of it, there might be something that will interest you.”
“Oh?”
“A traveller came to Liyue not long ago…” Xiao began retelling his story with the blond outlander from Mondstadt. Cyno listened as his mate told him everything—from their very first meeting at Wangshu Inn to the chaos that happened in Liyue then the Lantern Rite.
“So the person you were seeing off was this traveller?” Cyno inquired when Xiao finished.
The Omega nodded. “The boy is capable of using Geo, but I see no Vision on his body or those devices from Snezhnaya.”
Cyno frowned. No Vision or Delusion?
Could it be archon residue? No, if it was, Xiao would have known.
“His scent was also strange.”
“How so?”
“I wasn’t certain before, but now that I’m close to my Heat, my senses had heightened. That boy did not have the scent of a Beta despite claiming to be one.” Xiao furrowed his brows slightly and recalled that smell. “It was an odd smell, one I’ve never smelled on anyone before.”
“You’re saying he’s not any of the dynamic?” The first thing Cyno wanted to say was that it was impossible, yet as a scholar, there was no such thing as impossible.
Even amongst the archons, the ABO dynamic existed. It was how their world worked—like how trees grew from dirt and how all living beings needed water to survive. Never in Teyvat had there been a person not fitted into any of the three dynamics. But if his mate claimed that someone was not Alpha, Beta or Omega, then that was most likely the case.
“Fascinating.” This certainly piqued the Alpha’s interest.
“He is searching for his younger sister. If he can safely leave Inazuma, then I’m sure he will head to Sumeru next.”
“If so, we will meet eventually.” Cyno reached out his hand and his long fingers brushed across the pale cheek of the Omega.
The Omega’s bright yellow eyes seemed to glow beneath the full moonlight when he looked back at his Alpha. Very slowly, he leaned his face towards the hand until the Alpha’s entire palm laid against the Omega’s pale cheek.
Cyno let out a small, inaudible breathe when he took in the sight of the beautiful Omega beneath the moonlight. His heart trembled like a string being harshly plucked. He leaned forward while his hand guided his Omega towards him until their foreheads eventually touched.
“Xiao, come with me to Sumeru.”
Xiao stiffened upon hearing what his mate had said. He stared at that flaming red eye that was staring back at him seriously.
“Cyno, you know that’s—”
“I do not know whether your archon is dead or alive, but one thing for certain is that the future of Liyue will be paved by humans. The demons you fought for thousands of years no longer dominate this land. From what I can see, the humans of this land are fully capable of exterminating demons in your place. The era of the adepti was over long ago, and so was your duty,” Cyno told him. “Now that the God of Contracts is gone, there is nothing binding you down. You’re free to go wherever you like, Xiao.”
“I…” Xiao shook his head and pulled away from his Alpha. There was a slight shakiness in his voice, showing just how much the other’s words were affecting him.
The adeptus didn’t know what to do. He admitted that he had wondered what the world outside looked like. He had been thinking about it ever since meeting Cyno but his responsibilities prevented him from ever thinking further.
For so long, slaying demons and vanquishing evil spirits had been his sole duty. It was the reason he existed. It was the only thing he could do to pay back Rex Lapis for everything the archon did for him.
To suddenly be told his job has ended was just…
Xiao let out a startled gasp when he was suddenly pulled towards the Alpha. His head was pushed into the Alpha’s neck and the comforting scent of the Alpha washed over him, calming him down.
“You don’t have to give me an answer now, Xiao.” Cyno muttered against the Omega’s ear and cradled him within his arms. “I will wait for however long it takes. Once you’re ready, I will come get you.”
Xiao didn’t respond. He wrapped his arms around the Alpha, fingers digging into the brown cloak and clutched onto him tightly. Cyno peppered kisses on the side of his mate’s face before his tender lips moved down the pale neck. When Xiao slowly relaxed under the Alpha’s ministrations, he started to respond with kisses of his own.
Soon, the two of them were inside the hunt with Cyno throwing his cloak over the old bed before setting Xiao on top. Xiao’s shirt was already gone with his mate kneeling between his legs, pushing him down until he was lying on his back. Through the gaps on the roof of the hunt, moonlight streamed in, hitting the Alpha and casting a faint outline around his body.
Xiao took his time admiring the handsomeness of this man. He stared at the unusual clothing exclusive to Sumeru that barely covered much of the Alpha’s body.
Cyno caressed Xiao’s cheek before he captured his lips in a deep and passionate kiss. Despite being a scholar who mostly stays within Sumeru Academia looking through books and doing experiments, Cyno was a warrior.
He was one of Sumeru’s strongest fighters and the most knowledgeable. It was only natural, for Cyno would never be able to mark Xiao amidst the battle with demons if he was weak. The Omega shivered when a palm covered in a layer of callus slid down the smooth skin of back, reaching lower and lower before slipping inside his pant.
Xiao pulled away from the kiss with a sharp gasp. His head fell back with the Alpha trailed his lips down his throat. He kissed and nibbled the tender skin before biting down on that sweet scent gland.
“Hah…!” Xiao wrapped his arms around the Alpha’s head, gloved fingers tangling into the fluffy white hair with small breathless moans escaping his lips. The Alpha’s nimble fingers slide between the creases of his buttocks and teased the sensitive opening there.
Xiao let out another small cry when the hand on his rear lifted him up with the Alpha grounding down on him at the same time. The delicious friction made Xiao clamp his legs together around the Alpha’s hips, his body trembling with pleasure coursing through every part of his veins.
“Cyno, please…” Xiao pleaded before his pants were stripped off his legs. A pair of hands grabbed him by the forearm, pulling him up until he was sitting in his mate’s lap.
Xiao wrapped his legs and arms around the man, letting out broken pants with the Alpha lightly sucking on his right nipple while his hand toyed with the other. Eventually, the stimulation became too much and he had to bring a hand up to stop the shameful sounds from escaping his mouth.
Cyno gave one last lick to the perky nipple before he reached up, prying Xiao’s hand away so he could steal a kiss from the petal-soft lips.
“Don’t hide from me, Xiao,” Cyno said seriously, pulling Xiao’s gloves off his hands to reveal the old scars hidden underneath. The Alpha intertwined their fingers and planted a kiss upon each of his knuckles in such a loving way that Xiao nearly melted.
Hearing some sound, Xiao turned to see Cyno pulling out a familiar-looking vial from the leather bag lying on the edge of the bed. The Alpha popped it open and poured half of the content into his hand.
“Lift your hips,” The Alpha instructed and Xiao obeyed. He wrapped his arms around the man’s shoulder and lifted his hips into the air. He buried his face into the Alpha’s neck and waited with his heart pounding inside his ribcage.
It started with one finger, slick with warmed oil carefully sliding inside him before joined by another. Xaio’s arms around Cyno tightened, breathes becoming laboured as those fingers slowly worked him open.
Cyno was nuzzling his face against the Omega’s silky hair while his other hand caressed the yaksha’s thigh.
“Cyno, it’s enough,” Xiao groaned, feeling his inside completely coated with the oil.
“You’re still tight.” Cyno frowned.
“It’s fine.” Xiao gritted his teeth when he felt the uncomfortable coil in his lower abdomen. “My Heat is coming. I want to feel you before my mind becomes hazy.”
Cyno didn’t argue anymore. He slipped his fingers out and dipped his head down to capture Xiao’s lips. As they kissed, Xiao heard the rustling clothes accompanied by the jingling sound of metal. And then, the adeptus felt the tip of his mate’s cock—slick with oil—pressed against his entrance.
The Alpha didn’t move anymore aside from placing small, encouraging kisses along his neck. Gentle hands rubbed along his hips and legs but did nothing to guide the Omega down onto his cock.
Xiao knew that Cyno was letting him take control, so he did. He slowly sank his body, eyes fluttering shut when the head of the thick cock slipped inside. It had been a whole year since he was last filled by his Alpha.
“Cyno, Cyno…” he called out to his mate with more and more of the cock pushing through his tight walls and filling his inside. He could feel everything—the size, the warmth, the texture of the appendage…it was torture.
“Xiao,” his Alpha panted against his neck, seeming to be trying very hard not to move by how hard he was gripping onto the Omega’s knees.
Xiao wanted more.
It wasn’t enough, so he paused to take a deep breath before slamming himself down the rest of the way. A cry tore out of his lips as the cock speared him open, pushing past the walls and kissing the deepest part inside his body. Cyno wasn’t doing any better. The sudden movement of his mate nearly made him see stars. He was panting for breaths with both hands gripping onto Xiao’s hips to hold him still.
When Xiao opened his eyes, thick droplets of tears began to fall from his eyes. They fell off his long lashes and dripped over the Alpha’s cheeks. When Cyno gazed up, his heart nearly shattered at the sight of the Omega’s expressionless face with large pearly tears falling from those beautiful eyes holding so much sadness and pain.
Cyno always loved the colour of the Omega’s eye, because it was the purest colour of yellow—ones even gold cannot produce. He leaned up and started to kiss the droplets away. He knew this wasn’t Xiao crying. It was merely his body’s reaction.
Separation for mated couples was painful, especially for Omegas. Xiao may be strong, but in the end, his body was still bounded by his dynamic. Omega needed constant care from their Alpha to feel safe, and Cyno was not able to give him that. Throughout all of the battles and nightmares the Omega had to endure, Cyno was never there for him. He had left Xiao alone in a land where even the people he protected feared him.
That was his failure as his Alpha.
“I’m sorry, Xiao,” Cyno whispered tenderly against Xiao’s lips. His words seemed to have brought Xiao back for the next moment, those beautiful eyes blinked and the tears stopped.
“Sorry, again I—” Xiao wasn’t able to finish before Cyno pressed their lips together. He wasn’t going to allow the Omega to apologize for something that wasn’t his fault.
“Hold onto me,” Cyno spoke into his ear before he grabbed the Omega’s hips and started rocking into the heated body.
Xiao released a breathless cry and held onto Cyno, moving his hip to time with the man’s thrusts. Their movements were slow and unhurried. Right now, all they wanted was to take their time and feel each other.
When they finally came, they were wrapped up in each other’s arms, listening to the other’s breathing and feeling their heartbeats overlapping.
Xiao laid his head against the Alpha’s shoulder while the Alpha traced his fingers over the green tattoo on the left side of his hip and towards the inside of his thigh. It was a tattoo similar to the one on the yaksha’s right arm—one that only Cyno had the pleasure of seeing. While Cyno took in the sight of Xiao’s tattoo, Xiao was staring down at the clothes that were still on the Alpha’s body. Whenever they spend their Heat and Rut together, Cyno would never fully remove his clothes because they never know who might come and interrupt them.
Even though Xiao’s mated scent was repulsive to other Alphas, there would still be Alphas coming to target him.
It all came down to one simple reason—greed.
While Alpha and Omegas mate for life, they were still capable of being marked a second or third time. All they needed to do was to rip the Alpha’s or Omega’s scent gland out of their necks and with a strong enough healing magic, the scent gland will regenerate. Once the scent gland grew back, it will be clean without the marks of their mate. It was a very cruel process. Having their glands tore out and losing connections with their mate would make any Alpha or Omega lose their sanity.
Due to humans and gods living so close together, the people of Liyue held their archon and adepti in high regards. Even if they fear Xiao and steer away from him, they never dare thought of getting rid of him. People from other nations, however, were a different matter. They see the adepti of Liyue as a possible weapon if tamed properly. That was why being the only Omega amongst the adepti, Xiao became their prime target.
Omegas were always weak and powerless during their Heat so adepti or not, they naturally assumed Xiao to be the same. Whenever these people make their plans, not once did they take into account of Xiao’s Alpha. Once they learned that the Omega didn’t mate with another adeptus, they thought nothing more of the Alpha other than a nuisance needed to be removed.
In recent years, idiots like these were steadily growing—especially those from a certain nation…
Xiao was lying comfortably against his Alpha when he felt a rush of heat flowing throughout his body. An animalistic whine came out of his throat which was met by a dominating growl. The sound of his Alpha’s growl caused a gush of wetness to come out of his body. Xiao’s face burned as he closed his thighs tightly together, but that did little to stop the lubricant from flowing out of his body.
The sweet scent of his Heat flowed into the air, mixing with the dominating scent of his mate’s Rut.
Xiao’s scent glands started to itch. He wanted to scratch them, but his hands were caught by a pair of tanner ones. The world before his eyes spun and Xiao was pushed into the bed with his Alpha’s heated chest pressing down on his back. His hips were pulled up and with no warnings at all, Cyno thrust himself deep inside. Xiao screamed, eyes nearly rolling back at the pleasure of being filled. He clawed at the bamboo bed, the strength of his fingers starting to tear the material apart before his hands were grabbed and pinned down.
“Cyno!” Xiao mewled when the Alpha pulled out before slamming back inside.
“Xiao, you smell so good…” Cyno sighed, sucking and licking his ear before he buried his face into the Omega’s neck and started sucking on his scent gland.
Xiao was crying from the overstimulation.  He could feel the pheromones inside his glands being sucked away while his mate’s hips constantly rammed into him.
“Xiao, Xiao…!” Cyno called out his lover’s name over and over with each thrust of his hips.
“Cyno…!”
More.
It wasn’t enough.
He needed more.
Until there was nothing of him left.
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧
Cyno stared at the Omega sleeping peacefully in his arms.
He pressed a kiss on the Omega’s forehead, over the purple diamond marking before he slowly pulled himself out. A quiet moan escaped the yaksha’s lips, but other than that the Omega showed no signs of waking up.
Cyno rubbed his scent glands that were bruised from Xiao biting on them, releasing more of his scent so the adeptus can sleep better. He gazed up at the ceiling where the sunlight was spilling in from and shifted Xiao to the left so the sunlight wouldn’t hit his face.
Xiao needed rest—they both do. As much as the Omega’s scent was constantly tempting him, Cyno wasn’t some weak Alpha who would allow his desire to take over. He laid his head over his backpack and closed his eyes for some sleep as well. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to join the Omega in his dreams for the next moment, his eye snapped wide open.
Cyno shot up and moving together with him was Xiao. The Omega was staring towards the same direction where the Alpha sensed the intruders. Cyno hissed out a string of curses in a language that the Liyue adeptus wasn’t able to understand. Seeing the confusion swirling within those pure coloured eyes, Cyno shook his head and pushed the Omega back down.
“Go back to sleep, I’ll take care of them.” He wrapped the Omega’s naked body up in his cloak and climbed off the bed.
Although he didn’t show it, Cyno was livid. No Alpha liked having their time with their Omega interrupted—especially during Heat and Rut. Even more so when these people came intending to take his Omega away from him.
He pulled out his Anubis mask and put it on his head. In the span of this short moment, the house was already surrounded. A ball of flames gathered in his palm before the Alpha shot it upward, blasting a hole in the roof and leaped outside. When he landed on the loose pieces of shingles on the roof, he was greeted by the sight of the intruders.
Unsurprisingly, it was those Fatuis again.
Most of them were Alphas, but Cyno could easily pick out the Betas seeing as all the Alphas had to wear masks over their nose and mouths to filter out the scent of his mate. He held out his hand and his spear materialized in his palm.
“Insolent fools,” he huffed, eye turning cold with crimson flames swirling around his spear.
When Cyno returned, Xiao sitting on the corner of the bed with his back resting against the decaying wooden wall. He had put on Cyno’s cloak with his eyes closed—seemingly to be resting. The Alpha’s eye softened at the sight of his mate. The moment he got close, Xiao’s long lashes fluttered, parting to reveal those calm Aureolin eyes. Cyno put on his cloak to hide the unique Sumeruan clothes before stuffing his Omega’s clothes into his bag. After that, he went over to his mate, letting Xiao hold onto his bag while he carefully gather him up into his arms.
“Sleep, I’ll wake you when I find a place,” he spoke in that soothing voice, walking outside and stepping over the burnt ground.
Xiao leaned his head against the Alpha’s shoulder and closed his eyes with the bag held tightly in his arms.
There were many old and abandoned structures around Liyue, so finding their next logging wasn’t much task. Cyno found a decent place around Qingyun Peak and the two of them spent the remainder of their Heat and Ruts there.
Eight days passed by in a blink of an eye.
During this time, the pair roamed around Qingyun Peak before they spent their last day on the floating isle above the mountains, known as the Dwelling in the Cloud. This was a very old place created by the Cloud Retainer. Xiao was certain the other adeptus wouldn't mind them using her place, considering how she hadn't left her domain for a long time now.
The air high above the cloud was thin, but neither of the immortals was bothered by it. They sat at the ledge and watched the night sky with the cloud below them. Even though they didn’t mind the cold, their bodies were still pressed against one another, sharing warmth.
The night went by with neither of them exchanging any words.
When Xiao woke to the morning light, he knew without needing to open his eyes that Cyno was gone. The body wrapped around his when they fell into slumber was gone without any lingering warmth left.
The yaksha sat up with the familiar brown coat sliding off his body much like when he first woke on the night of his mate’s arrival.
In the place where his mate laid were four white flowers growing from a single stem.
It was a Qingxin—Xiao’s favourite flower.
He caressed the soft white petals before bringing the flower to his nose and smelled the sweet floral scent mixed with the faint scent of his Alpha.
They never meet each other with hellos and never part with goodbyes. It was an unspoken rule between them, as though doing so would seem like they had never parted to begin with.
Xiao gazed out to the land before him, golden eyes filled with loneliness and lost. He stared at the sun rising out of the clouds, not because of the view, but because that was where his Alpha was.
“I will wait for however long it takes. Once you’re ready, I will come get you.” Cyno’s voice echoed within his head.
Xiao parted his lips, but his throat felt awfully dry. He clutched onto the flower and closed his eyes. He could feel tears starting to gather, but he refused to let any fall.
“Go out and see the world, Xiao.”
“…?!”
Xiao jumped up, sharp eyes scanning over the tiny island but didn’t find anything unusual or out of the place. He brought a hand to his right ear where the voice had whispered those words to him. It was a voice Xiao was familiar with, but it happened so fast that he didn’t know if it was a voice from an old, long-forgotten memory or reality. He looked down at the flower in his hand, then back at the sun.
Suddenly, he felt like the world before his eyes began to open up—like an invisible cage slowly dissolving away. Xiao took a small step back and felt himself stepped on something. When he looked down, he found that it was Cyno’s cloak. He picked up the cloak and gazed back to the distant sky.
The lost look on his face slowly melted away. He held the cloak close before his eyes fell to the statue of Rex Lapis below.
Leaping off the floating isle, he landed before the statue. He stared at the image of Rex Lapis—the one who had saved him and given him his current name.
“I’ll be back,” he promised, setting the Qingxin flower before it as an offering. Without another glance back, he turned and leaped off the mountain. He gripped the cloak tightly in his arms and ran down the steep slope, moving at a speed too quick for mortal eyes to follow.
Xiao had never run faster in his entire life. He went from mountain to mountains, chasing after that scent lingering within the air.
As he was nearing the border of Liyue, Xiao finally saw the cloaked figure walking through the valley, carrying nothing but a brown leather bag over his shoulder.
“Cyno!!”
Cyno stopped. He glanced over his shoulder, orange-red eye wide in disbelieve when he saw the Omega running towards him. Kicking off the ground, Cyno closed the gap between them and caught the Omega within his arms.
“Xiao?” Xiao’s name fell from the Alpha’s lips in a hushed whisper, as though he couldn’t believe the Omega was here. He held onto the yaksha so tightly that ordinary people would find it painful, but Xiao was anything but ordinary.
The adeptus held onto his mate just as tightly. The tears he had been holding back finally fell from his eyes. For the first time in his life, Xiao laughed. It was a very quiet laugh, but the sound was more beautiful than anything the Alpha had ever heard.
For the first time as well, Cyno also laughed. The tears rolling down his face was no less than Xiao’s.
They didn’t need to exchange any words, for that there was never any need.
After a thousand years, they’ve finally caught each other in their arms. This time, neither of them have any intention of letting the other go.
Back on Qingyun Peak, a gloved hand picked up the Qingxin flower left in front of the statue of the Geo Archon. The dark-haired man gazed out to the horizon with a gentle smile on his lips before he turned and blinked at the sight of large white flowers obstructing his view.
The flowers waved around in his vision, pulling back to reveal a smiling Childe holding onto a bouquet of Qingxin.
“For you, the fairest of them all.”
Zhongli looked around the statue and found all the Qingxin flowers that grew around here were plucked by the former Harbinger. He shook his head with a light smile and accepted the bouquet, adding the one in his hand to them.
“Thank you,” he thanked, already thinking of whether or not he got a vase for these flowers. If not, he will have to go find one.
A jade vase would certainly fit these flowers beautifully…
He will also need to get a painter to paint down the beauty of the flowers…
“Despite living so long, you adepti are all so interesting,” Childe snickered. “These flower suits you. Both you and that Xiao.”
“How so?” Zhongli lifted his eyes to meet those light blue eyes staring at him. The raven didn’t know why, but he felt his heart skipped a beat when he saw how intensely the Alpha was looking at him.
Childe walked forward and plucked a white petal off of the flower. He placed the petal against his lips and smirked at the oldest adeptus.
“In Liyue, Qingxin means Pure Heart, doesn’t it?”
The Snezhnayan leaned forward, pressing his lips firmly against the Omega’s. Zhongli’s entire body stiffened upon the contact. His golden eyes were slowly rounding while his grips over the flowers went slack, but not so much that he would drop them.
The kiss only lasted three short seconds before Childe pulled away with a laugh bubbling from his throat. Zhong stood there, his body as stiff as a rock with a white petal sticking on his bottom lip.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t told you my real name yet so listen closely, Morax.” He leaned towards the archon’s ear and whispered the name he had left behind ever since becoming a warrior. "My name is Ajax."

Under the heavy snow
Prompt: Y/N was snuggling up to Namjoon because it's cold.
- Kim Namjoon fluff, bestfriends to lover AU, mutual pining-
Y/N knew better than listening Namjoon’s crazy trip ideas, but she did the mistake to agree this adventure without thinking. He wanted to go to a famous Ski Resort in Busan, despite the heavy snow in Seoul. Then you found your car stuck in road. You were in some mountain and it was snowing harder than before. As if it wasn’t enough, your phone services don’t work. This sounds like a cliché romantic comedy, but you are stuck with your dumb best friend that you are super angry at.
Namjoon sighed. He seemed like building up his courage and said:
“Maybe, .. we should walk around to find some help??”
“Walk .. to where? There is no building in the sight, there is no car passing around. We ..”  your jaw dropped. You saw a pickup truck driving towards yours. Both of you quickly left the car and tried your best to catch the driver’s attention by jumping and waving.
Finally, the truck stopped next to you. It was a miracle in the appearance of a middle-aged woman.
“Are you stuck?” she asked from the window. And you nodded with puppy eyes.
---
You must be God’s favourite because in half an hour you were drinking a cup of tea in front of the fireplace of that woman’s mountain cottage. Namjoon was next you sipping his tea and looking so cute while snuggling to you, but you were nowhere near to forgive his stupid ass.
Finally, when the woman came next to you from the kitchen, she announced you that she prepared the dinner.
---
“So, are you two dating?” she asked while handing Namjoon’s bowl. You started choke on your soup. Namjoon handed you a napkin and a cup of water.
“Mrs. Park *cough* do you think *cough* I would date someone like him? *cough* that would be my notice of death. Just as his best friend, I was about to find myself dead under heavy snow if it wasn’t you who saved us.” You said and sent a glare to Namjoon. Mrs. Park giggled at your overdramatic words.
“You two have a nice energy, tho. Looking like a cute couple bickering.” Your eyes went bigger at her comment. You were too busy to be overdramatic to notice the soft blush on Namjoon’s cheeks. Luckily, he wasn’t feeling offended at your words, because this was the usual dynamic of your friendship. Though his heart was breaking, but it wasn’t your fault to not to notice him being head over heels in love with you. He never tried confessing.
“Do you perhaps have another person you liked?” Msr. Park asked carefully. Though you were oblivious to Namjoon’s feelings, Mrs. Park noticed it quickly in boy’s eyes. Namjoon held his breath in anticipation of your answer.
“No, it is not that. I don’t have anyone in my life. But also, Namjoon is my best friend since high school. He knows me for longer than a decade. There is no way for us to see each other in that light. Right?” you turned Namjoon to agree with you.
Namjoon tried his best to look cool and nodded.
“She is my best friend.” He ruffled your hair to hide the sadness in your eyes.
“Well Y/N, you are lucky to have a man like him next you. You should know his value. Not everyone has a handsome kind best friend.” She winked at you.
---
After the dinner you and Joon went to the room Mrs. Park gave to you. Her cottage was small, thus you had to share the room and bed with Joon. But that wasn’t a problem. Being best friends for so long, you shared your bed with him several times. The real problem was the extreme cold. You crawled closer to him in the bed. His back was turned to you and he was reading a book.
“Joon~” you called his name. He hummed in response.
“Can we.. ugh.. can we cuddle?” you asked in a low voice. He turned to look at you.
“It’s so cold.”  You stressed the ‘so’ part. He laughed at your antic but opened his arms for you, nonetheless. You settled yourself happily in his embrace and sighed contentedly.
“Joon?” you called him again.
“Yes.”
“Thank you for being by my side over a decade.” You whispered and let yourself into the arms of sleep. ‘Maybe Mrs. Park was right.’ You thought to yourself. Sometimes your heart confuses the lines between love and friendship. But right now, you were too tired to think about these and Namjoon’s embrace was so warm and you were about to fall in love asleep.

(A/N: thanks for the request, anon!)
(A/N #2: This is slightly based off of the song A Guy I’d Kinda Be Into from the musical Be More Chill, which you should all listen to)
(A/N #3: Sorry it’s been so long! I’ve been so busy with school(Spanish is kicking my ass) and family stuff that I’ve barely had any time to write for pleasure)
Five sighs dreamily with burning cheeks, looking over at Y/N, who was reading a book in the other room and out of earshot. Allison chuckles behind him. “Again, Five?”
He jumps a little, quickly straightening his posture and looking over at her with a slight glare. “What?”
“You staring at Y/N. It’s the third time this week I’ve caught you, you creep.” Allison smiles, filling up a teapot with water and placing it on the stove and getting out a mug that reads, ‘I’m the best sibling, deal with it’.
“I am not staring at them. Why on earth would I be staring at them?” Already, Five’s gaze drifts back to Y/N, who giggles at something in their book.  “I mean, we’ve known each other since forever, why would I suddenly start having romantic feelings for them?”
“Well, maybe it’s not so sudden.” Allison frowns at the tea selection, two-thirds listening to Five and one-third picking out a tea. “Maybe you’ve had feelings for them for years and you’ve just now realized.”
“That’s doubtful. I know pretty much everything.” Five says proudly. “It’s like if all of us Hargreeves shared 10 brain cells, I’d have three at all times, you’d have two, and Ben would have two, and Vanya would have two. Luther, Diego, and Klaus would share one, although it’s mainly in Diego’s hands, and Klaus has it maybe once a year(I based this off of another post I saw weeks ago and added to it, credit goes to whoever originated it).”
Allison chuckles and picks out an Earl Gray tea bag. “Yeah, that math adds up, but you’re just trying to distract both of us from talking about Y/N, who you’re madly in love with.
“I’m not ‘madly in love’ with them.” Five grumbles, knowing that he was lying. Unfortunately, so did Allison. “I mean, is it even worth it?”
“Absolutely! It’s never a bad idea to tell someone how you feel.” Alison puts the bag in the famous mug.
“Except if it completely ruins the dynamic that you’ve created with that person. Hypothetically, of course.”
“Of course.” Allison chuckles. “But I’m sure this person wouldn’t let that happen. I think that they care as much as you do about the hypothetical relationship you two have.”
“Maybe, but even this person couldn’t control feelings of discomfort.”
“Well, the person might be uncomfortable at first, but it wouldn’t last very long. And we’re forgetting the very strong possibility that the feelings could be reciprocated.” The teapot screams.
Klaus Hargreeves was not a simple guy. He, for one, hated to see two people who obviously were in love with each other pine hopelessly until they grew old and spent years denying their very obvious feelings for each other.
So obviously, he had to get them together.
He was on his way to do just that, eating a scone(cause why not) when Five walks up to him voluntarily(gasp).
“You better not be thinking about telling Y/N that I like them because that is a LIE.” Five glares at him.
“Oh, of course, I wouldn’t tell them that you like them.” Klaus chuckles and starts walking again, twirling his magnificent boa around his fingers.
Five breathes out a sigh of relief just as Klaus says, “I was going to tell them that you love them. Love you!”
Five’s eyes widen and he runs in front of him again. “No! You can’t do that!”
“Oh? And why not?”
“Because then they will that the lie you are about to tell is the truth! And there’s no way I’m letting you do that!”
Klaus sighs. “You know as well as I do that it’s not a lie, brother. Now please move out of the way so I can tell our dear friend Y/N about how you feel.”
“No way! Not until you swear not to!”
“I’m just doing your job, Fivie.” Klaus ruffles his hair affectionately and Five bats his hand away. “If you didn’t want me to do it, then you should have done it a long time ago. Also, it’s insane how oblivious you two are! I mean-”
“I’ll do it soon, but I want it to come from me.” He blurts out, and both Klaus and Five were surprised that he had done that.
“Well, how soon is soon? Because all of us have been waiting for, well, ever!” Klaus waves his arms around and then pauses. “And, you know, if you do it in the next week, then I will win 40 dollars from our dear brother Diego.”
Five sighs. “I don’t know when. I definitely need to do it as soon as possible, before one of my idiot siblings does it for me.” He stares threateningly at him and Klaus chuckles.
“Fine, fine. But by the end of the week, ok?”
“No promises!” Five downs his coffee that he holds at all times and walks out.
A few weeks pass with Five being obvious as hell, Y/N being oblivious as hell, and the rest of the Hargreeves trying to get Five to confess and failing, only getting a ‘soon’, or a ‘shut up’, or even an ‘if you don’t leave right now I will kill you and I have seventy-nine ways to choose from’.
Y/N looks up from their book to see Five staring at them. They chuckle. “What are you looking at, weirdo?”
Five blushes a bit. “I was looking at the painting behind you.”
Y/N turns around to see a blank wall. Well, it was patterned with seashells, but other than that, it was blank. “What painting?”
“Um, well, um,” Five continues stuttering, for once not having a plan on what to say at every moment.
Y/N looks at him, giggling softly. “Ok, what’s up Five? Something’s off.”
“It’s really nothing.” Five letting the lie roll easily off his tongue, regretting it immediately.
“If it’s nothing, then why won’t you tell me?”
“Because it’s not important, so what’s the point?”
“The point is that then I would not be worried about whatever this is,” Y/N says, looking him straight in the eye. “So tell me right now.”
“Fine,” Five sighs, shifting his gaze from them and then looking at them again. “I was staring at you.”
Y/N blushes dark red. “W-why?”
“Because I find you very attractive.”
Y/N’s eyes widen. “So, you are...”
“Attracted to you, yes. And emotionally attracted, too.”
“Oh,” Y/N blinks, unsure if this was a dream or some sort of prank, but it was a good opportunity to admit their feelings anyway. “Well, I’m emotionally attracted to you too.”
“Aw, man!” Diego huffs from across the room, making them both jump. “I was about to do that for you, man. Now I’ll never get that twenty dollars from Luther.” He turns to leave and pauses. “Congratulations, I suppose.” He mutters and continues on his way.
Y/N and Five turn to each other, not saying anything for a second before bursting out laughing, and at that moment Five knew as long as Y/N was by his side, he would be okay. Most likely much more than that.
