A Guide to Some of the Best Queer Asian Shows
The guide includes a show’s basic summary; main genres/tropes/themes and official streaming links (additional info on how to watch at the end of this post)! You can find some content warnings in the reply section of this post. Shows are listed by countries, numbered by the order I recommend watching in, not by rating. All shows have happy endings unless specified otherwise. The list will hopefully be updated regularly (last updated on 04/04/2024, 98 queer shows in total).
Most shows are about mlm, I specify with coloured notes those that are focused on wlw, polyamory, aromantism/asexuality, etc.
Tumblr does not allow large texts or more than 30 images per post at the moment, so you can click on every country’s list to expand them and view them fully in a separate post. You can access this guide in a google doc here.

Inclement Weather
so. here for your reading pleasure (but mostly mine. honestly) here is that fic i was working on. (google docs link) this bitch is long! nearly 4k words (3887. to be exact.) but i quite enjoy it and it was fun getting back into the‏‏‎ ‎mlp‏‏‎ ‎writing scene and expanding on the relationship between these two. without any further ado enjoy lesbian horses
Tumblr media
Icy raindrops pelt down on‏‏‎ ‎Dash’s coat as the wind whips through her feathers. The sky is dark enough that the rest of the weather crew are barely distinguishable as silhouettes against the storm, only occasionally lit up in full color as a crack of lightning splits the clouds.
She banks upwards, trying to whittle the storm cloud she’s circling down to size.‏‏‎ ‎Everfree‏‏‎ ‎clouds are made of tougher stuff than the ones that form above‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville,‏‏‎ ‎and this one has no intention of going easily. If she comes at it too hard, it just splits apart into smaller, wispier chunks that are even harder to get rid of. They’re doing their best to pack the clouds tightly enough that they pop under the pressure, but it’s hard to coordinate when they can barely see or hear each other. She tries shouting at‏‏‎ ‎Blossomforth‏‏‎ ‎to climb higher, but her voice gets lost in the howling of the wind.
As she skims the side of the cloud, she sees its glowing interior a fraction of a second too late. She folds in her wings, trying to dive out of the way, but a blinding flash followed by a searing pain tells her that she wasn’t fast enough.
As she falls, her wings snap out, trying to get enough drift to glide to a safe landing, but it only makes the pain in her left wing worse and she yelps as she lists to the side, spiraling lopsidedly downwards.
No way to turn around and get back to‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville‏‏‎ ‎in time--with both her wings, sure, but it’s all she can do to hold them open. No way she can flap. They’re not in the‏‏‎ ‎Everfree‏‏‎ ‎proper so she can’t make it to‏‏‎ ‎Zecora’s--Fluttershy’s‏‏‎ ‎would be a safe bet, but they already steered the storm away from her cottage earlier and Dash’s sense of direction is pretty thoroughly busted at the moment.
In a stroke of luck so wild she thinks she might be hallucinating it, she spots a light through the trees. She pulls her wings in and angles downward to pick up speed, laser focused on the light.
She smacks into a…skylight? and tries to struggle to rearrange her limbs into a position capable of movement. Through the glass, she spots the pony inside wherever she’s just graced with her presence. The mint green unicorn jerks upwards, locking eye contact with her for a second, their expression what Rainbow can only describe as incredulous.
She tries sliding off the roof--it’s easy enough with it all slick from rain, but she hasn’t gathered her senses enough to make a proper landing and so she just sort of falls into the mud.
“Oh my gosh, you look terrible! Are you okay? Hold on, I should get you inside before I start asking you things--can you stand? I’ll help.”
Rainbow is suffused with a bright yellow glow and pulled by what she can easily recognize as unicorn magic through a door that slams shut behind her and she is finally, finally, out of the rain.
“Here, let me get you a towel.”
Her savior levitates over a blue, fluffy towel that nearly matches the color of her coat (when it’s dry) and she wraps it around her shoulders. Her eyes finally find the pony who saved her again.
At least it’s not a stranger, though she’s not sure if that’s worse or better.
Astral Orbit peers at Dash worriedly. It’s been maybe half a year since the curious unicorn moved to‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville‏‏‎ ‎(accompanied by a patented Pinkie party, of course) and they seem to be adjusting well enough, though they’re not the most sociable, so it’s hard to tell. Nowhere near‏‏‎ ‎Fluttershy’s‏‏‎ ‎level--more like‏‏‎ ‎Twilight before she learned how cool friendship was. Dash might actually be better acquainted with them than most. With their special talent and primary hobby being scientific research on the inherent magic of different species, and Rainbow herself being a pretty prime example of the pegasus race if she does say so herself, she’s spent a couple hours sitting on a couch in Astral’s living room while they rattle off questions about what speed you have to be going to create a tornado and how different horseshoes affect the ease at which you can walk on clouds. She’s never been…wherever this is before, though.
“Um. Are you okay? Sorry, I don’t mean to be pushy, I just…you really don’t look so…I don’t want to put my hoof in my mouth but I’m sure I already have.”
Rainbow shrugs tiredly. “Nah, it’s okay. I owe you for having your light on. I probably would have had a way worse landing otherwise. The weather crew was trying to corral that storm that drifted over from the‏‏‎ ‎Everfree‏‏‎ ‎and I caught a lightning bolt.”
“You caught a what?!?” Astral gasps. “Celestia, now I’m really amazed you’re still standing! Gosh, you must still be in pain and here I am just…babbling! Is there anything I can do?”
“I think my wing got the brunt of it.”
Rainbow shrugs the towel off to get a better look at the injured wing. It’s not as bad as it could have been--she could have broken a bone--but the blast looks to have been centralized, catching her primary and secondary feathers and even the tips of her coverts. Both ponies wince at the curling, blackened feathers.
“That must hurt terribly,” Astral says sympathetically, and while maybe on another day she’d have put on a brave face and pretended she was fine, Dash nods.
Astral telekinetically opens a cupboard and retrieves a small pink bottle.‏‏‎ ‎“Zecora‏‏‎ ‎gave this to me. It works slower than healing spells do, but it helps the pain subside faster. Most traditional unicorn healing spells actually work too fast--the wound heals, but the stress on the muscles and skin mean they become more fragile and susceptible to future tearing, and it may even result in phantom pain--sorry! Sorry. Applying the potion.”
They tilt the bottle over her wing and let some of the liquid work its way into her feathers. “Unfortunately, it might still take a few days to heal. Sorry, I’m sure that’s not what you want to hear.”
Dash can’t help but grumble at the news, but feels a stab of shame about it after Astral looks guilty. “Sorry. Guess I could’ve expected that. I just wish I could help the weather team clear up this storm. They’re pretty lost without me, y’know.”
Astral giggles a bit, and Dash instinctively puffs out her chest. “Sorry, Speedy. There’s no way that’s gonna happen. You’re lucky you could glide well enough to land without hurting yourself more. Besides, even if the weather team can’t corral it, the‏‏‎ ‎Everfree‏‏‎ ‎storms usually clear up on their own.”
“Yeah, but still, I--I--” Her nose scrunches up and she sneezes.
“Oh, gosh, you’re probably still cold, aren’t you?” Astral frets. “You can’t get sick on top of everything, that’d just be horrible! Hold on, I don’t keep a lot of food here, but I know I left some hot chocolate mix in one of these cupboards--”
All of the cupboards in the space slam open with impressive synchrony. Astral levitates a few jars before exclaiming in victory and quickly pouring milk into a glass, adding the powder and stirring. “I can warm it up for you. The stove’s just for my more sensitive experiments.”
Their horn glows again, and a curl of steam drifts off the top of the drink. “That’s maybe the fastest hot chocolate I’ve ever seen anyone make,” says Dash. She sniffs.
“Well, I’m just--worried,” says Astral, a little awkwardly. “I don’t usually get‏‏‎ ‎anypony‏‏‎ ‎dropping in here, much less literally, and I get anxious about this kind of thing and you’re already hurt and I just don’t want to make anything worse--”
“No, it--it’s okay,” Rainbow interrupts them. “It’s sweet. Thanks.”
She takes a sip of the hot chocolate. It’s just the right temperature.
“Sweet. Right. Yep,” Astral murmurs, looking really pink all of a sudden. Maybe using magic to heat stuff up heats you up too. Rainbow’s pretty sure that’s not how it works, but Twilight isn’t around to correct her.
“Hey, so, I know why I was out in this weather, but why are you? I mean, technically you’re inside, but you know what I mean. Why aren’t you in‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville?‏‏‎ ‎Also…what is this place exactly?”
Astral coughs self-consciously. “I was hoping I could study the storm. Measure its energy output in contrast with‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville‏‏‎ ‎storms, record temperature changes, that kind of thing…though admittedly I didn’t really think through the part about being stuck here until the storm passed. Whoops.” They shuffle embarrassedly, then brighten. “Oh! And this is my field research laboratory! I have a room in my house for research and experimentation, of course, but there’s some stuff that just has to be studied in its natural environment--er, and also it’s safer out here if anything goes awry. Less property damage and all.”
With this new information in mind, Dash scans the space they’re in. The lab seems to double as a living space, judging by the sofa bed with blanket and pillows and the cupboards full of snacks. The kitchen and bed are on either side of one open space, and on the far wall is a workstation, where books on magical theory and diagrams of runes and anatomy sketches nearly obscure the desk they sit on, with some weird machines Dash doesn’t know the purpose of flanking the desk on either side. Through the enormous skylight, she can see the rain continuing to pound down mercilessly. Off to the side, close to the sofa bed, two side doors lead into a bathroom and what looks like a room with more machines in it.
“Do you stay here a lot?” she asks.
“Well, not usually overnight, unless I’m working on something and lose track of time, but I like being prepared. That’s why I’ve got all the books, too!”
Two overstuffed bookshelves sit near the sofa bed. Rainbow perks up when she sees them. “Oooh, do you have any‏‏‎ ‎Daring‏‏‎ ‎Do?”
“Not here, but I’ve got some others you might like.”
Astral pulls a few books out from the shelves and begins levitating them in front of themself. “This one’s a historical fantasy about a war between a dragon clan and a pegasi squadron, told in alternating perspectives between a dragon and pegasus--I actually think it’s one of the earliest written fictional works featuring a dragon’s point of view! Oooh, this one is about vampire ponies stalking the streets of‏‏‎ ‎Manehattan…oh, this is one of my favorites! It’s about this organization called the ECF--the‏‏‎ ‎Equestrian‏‏‎ ‎Cosmic Federation, formed in the distant future to chart the unexplored reaches of outer space! The speculative biology elements the author includes when discussing the alien creatures they encounter are fascinating! I only have books 1 and 2 here but there are 3 others and I can lend them to you when we get back--”
They meet Rainbow’s eyes and cut themselves off again. “Um. Ahem.” They gently levitate the books onto the sofa bed. “But, um, you don’t have to read any of them if you don’t want to. I’m sure there’s something else we could do. Or we could just…go to sleep? I guess?”
They just said a lot of words at her very fast and she’s not sure she caught all of them, but now they look like they did something wrong again and it makes her feel kind of weird and bad when they look like that. Also, ponies in space do sound pretty cool.
“Um, I guess I could read that EGF thing. Sounds like it could be cool. Plus, I’m kinda hungry and I can’t sleep on an empty stomach anyway.”
“Oh! Great! You’ll love it! I mean, I hope you’ll love it, not that you have to love it, but I just really love it and--” Astral smacks their forehead with a hoof. “Oh! Right! Dinner! I knew I was forgetting something. Um, I think I have some frozen potato pasta in the fridge, if that’s okay with you? Sorry, it’s…mostly frozen food. Cooking is, uh, not a primary part of my skillset. Or even a secondary part of it.”
“Oh, no, that’s awesome, dude! I love potato pasta!”
She’s not even trying to make them feel better, she really does.
“Oh! Perfect!” Astral does a tiny hop in excitement. It’s pretty cute. “I’ll go warm it up.”
They start towards the stove, but quickly add, “Also it’s ECF and not EGF.”
Dash sits on the sofa bed and picks up the book, taking a moment to admire the intricately designed spaceship on the cover and the green laser blasts coming out of a mounted cannon on top of it. Neat.
She’s still a pretty slow reader (which makes it a minefield to avoid spoilers for the first few days after a new‏‏‎ ‎Daring‏‏‎ ‎Do‏‏‎ ‎book comes out), so she doesn’t make too much headway by the time Astral is done heating up two bowls of pasta, but the book does seem pretty cool. It’s about the crew of the spaceship Fortitude, tasked with gathering information on faraway planets and their inhabitants. Dash’s favorite character is, maybe predictably, Starry Blaze, the pegasus lieutenant, but she also kinda likes N’yargu, the alien character. He’s from a race called the Luminous, and they look like ponies but with longer tails and no cutie marks, and instead of manes they have long frills that glow in the dark. A lot of the funny bits so far seem to be him misunderstanding something that the rest of the crew does. Just as they’re receiving a mysterious transmission from an unknown ship that entered their airspace, Astral snaps Dash out of her reading. “Pasta’s done!”
“Oh, man, already? The Fortitude just received this weird transmission and--”
Astral squeals. “OHHHH, you must be at the part where--wait, no spoilers, no spoilers, but oh, it’s just so good! Um, you should eat before it gets cold though. I forget to eat because I’m reading stuff all the time but I don’t want to encourage that kind of behavior in others.”
“Point taken.”
Astral only has one chair, and they sit in it while Dash sits on the bed. The pasta is…well, it’s frozen pasta, but for what it is it’s not terrible. They eat in silence, but Dash notices Astral sneaking glances at her every once in a while.
“Hey, you know I’m not going to eat you, right?” she asks after the third or fourth time.
Astral stammers and nearly tips their chair over, righting it with magic. “I--wh--I know! I’m just. You know. Checking in on you! Making sure you weren’t uncomfortable or needed more to eat or anything. I’ll stop.”
They look nervous. Like, really nervous. Their ears are nearly flat against their head. Dash tries to lower her voice, pretends she’s talking to an upset‏‏‎ ‎Fluttershy.‏‏‎ ‎“Hey, look, if I’m making you uncomfortable I can leave. The storm’s probably a little less bad now and‏‏‎ ‎Ponyville’s‏‏‎ ‎not that far away--”
“No!” Astral blurts out loudly. They clear their throat and take a deep breath. “I mean…you haven’t done anything wrong. I don’t want you to leave. Really. I’m glad you’re here! Because, you know, if you weren’t then it would mean you’d have landed somewhere else and you’d be a lot more hurt and…I still don’t think you should go out again in this.”
Thunder rumbles from outside as if to punctuate their point.
“I just kind of freaked out for a bit. I freak out a lot. I--it’s not--exclusive to you or anything.”
Dash puts a hoof to her chest. “Awww, so I’m not special? You wound me.”
Astral bursts into a fit of nervous laughter. “Oh, you’re plenty special,” they say, then look almost shocked at their own boldness. “I mean, um…you’re cool.”
“You’re cool, too,” says Dash.
That gets them smiling. Same way they do when talking about their lab or the ECF books. Dash realizes she really likes seeing them smile. She pats the book at her side.
“You don’t mind if I read some more of this, do you? I really wanna know what happens with that mystery transmission.”
“Mind? I encourage it,” grins Astral, clapping their hooves together. Rainbow grins back.
She reads for a while longer, occasionally yelling stuff at the characters and updating Astral on her progress, until her eyes start to feel fuzzy and she’s biting back yawns every couple of minutes. “Hey, uh, I think I’m gonna hit the hay soon. You got any spare blankets or pillows I can lay out or something?”
Astral looks bewildered. “Spares? You can just sleep in the bed.”
“But it’s your bed, in your lab-house-thing! I can’t just take your bed!”
“You’re hurt! And you’re a guest! I can’t make you sleep on the floor!”
Dash ponders this conundrum. “I mean, I guess we could share it?”
“Share?” squeaks Astral.
They’ve gone pink again, but it’s like twice as much as earlier. She hopes they’re not getting sick.
“Yeah, kinda like a sleepover or something. I guess that’s technically what this is anyway.”
Astral clears their throat, then clears it again, louder. “Right! A sleepover! That’s totally normal. It’s a normal thing for normal ponies. We can do that. It’s fine. I’m fine.”
She’ll take their word for it.
“You might want to sleep with your hurt wing facing outward, though, because I, um, I kind of toss and turn a lot? And I don’t want to hurt you in your sleep and also sometimes I steal the blankets and I wake up in the middle of the night a lot and maybe this is a bad idea, I’ll just sleep on the floor.”
They go to levitate a pillow off the bed, but Dash stops them. “No, come on, you’re not going to break me, dude! I’ve slept in lots of weird places. Like, lots. I think I can survive you stealing the blankets. I’ll just steal them back.”
Astral gives a little “pfft” of a laugh, but they still look hesitant. “If you’re sure, I guess.”
“Sure I’m sure.”
She gives them what she hopes is a friendly punch to the shoulder. They don’t cry out in pain or anything, so that’s good.
Astral goes into the bathroom and comes out with a little fuzzy cap covering their horn. “Like I said, I kind of toss and turn a lot, and, uh, one time I tore a hole in a pillow. And I really don’t want that to happen again, and I really really don’t want to tear a hole in you, so, uh, I got this thing,” they explain a little awkwardly.
“Very considerate of you. I wouldn’t want to get maimed in my sleep.”
The sofa bed creaks a bit under their combined weight, but thankfully doesn’t do anything more. Dash settles in under the covers, then outstretches her burnt wing so it can air out.‏‏‎ ‎Zecora’s‏‏‎ ‎potion really seems to work--the pain’s still there, but opening and closing the wing is just sort of a twinging pain instead of a searing pull-your-mane-out pain.
Astral levitates their glasses over to the top of a bookshelf. “S--so, if I kick you or talk in my sleep or anything just shake me until I stop, okay?”
“Sure. If you do that.”
Dash takes one last glance at Astral. “Hey, um…I guess I never really said thanks for saving me. And you really didn’t have to do all the other stuff you did, but it was cool of you to do it. So…thanks for all of that.”
Ah. One last nice smile for the night. “You’re welcome, Rainbow.”
An indeterminate amount of hours later, Dash wakes up to the sun on her face, filtered in through the rooftop skylight. She stirs with a grunt, gently flexing her injured wing. She still won’t be able to get airborne on it quite yet, but it hurts less than it did yesterday. That’s good.
“Hey Astral,” she says sleepily.
“Five more minutes,” mutters Astral, who is face down on their pillow, before bolting upright. “OH, CELESTIA, you’re actually here. I thought I might have dreamt yesterday.”
“Hey, if you dreamt about me, I’d be flattered,” she teases them, because she can’t resist.
Astral sends their glasses flying across the room and jams them onto their face. “I’m sure you would but I didn’t dream about you last night. OR ANY NIGHT. I’ve never dreamt about you! Because that would be weird! And it’s--um--I--I didn’t. I don’t. Hey, look, the storm’s cleared up!”
“Looks like the weather team didn’t need me after all,” Dash says, pleased. “Or maybe it just cleared up on its own like you said it did.”
“I hope they didn’t have to work all night,” says a concerned Astral.
“Nah, most of the weather team knows when it’s time to throw in the towel,” says Dash, hopping out of bed. “Most of. Maybe it’s a good thing I got knocked out of commission early.”
“You should probably apply some more of that potion to your wing,” advises Astral. “Actually, you should probably just keep the bottle--I use it for chemical burns, but I can always get more and just…avoid doing things that could cause chemical burns for a bit.”
They levitate the pink bottle of burn healer into Rainbow’s hooves. “That should be enough to last you until it’s healed, but if you need any more, just come to me. Or, uh, to‏‏‎ ‎Zecora.‏‏‎ ‎Or to me. You know. Whichever.”
“Hey, d’you mind if I borrow the ECF book too? I really wanna know how Starry Blaze and Cosmic Nova are gonna get off that planet they’re stranded on.”
Astral gasps. “Oh, I LOVE that chapter! Honestly, it was totally what made me ship them together--I mean, yes, you can borrow the book, absolutely, go ahead.”
Dash tucks the book under her uninjured wing. “So, uh, I guess I’ll see you around, then. But hey…thanks again. I really owe you one for all this.”
“It’s really not a big deal,” insists Astral, pawing at the ground. “I’m sure anypony would have done the same thing.”
“I mean, yeah, probably anypony would have tried to help me out, but you didn’t have to lend me your book or use that potion or let me sleep in your bed or make pasta for me, but you did! It was a big deal to me.”
Astral goes a little pink again. “Well, then, um…I guess you’re welcome.”
“Hey, tell you what. I said I owe you one, so why don’t we get breakfast somewhere in town? My treat.”
Astral’s eyes go wide. “What, for real?”
“Yeah, duh, for real! It’s the least I could do. Whaddaya want?”
Another smile. Yessss. “I mean, I’m a sucker for‏‏‎ ‎Sugarcube‏‏‎ ‎Corner’s‏‏‎ ‎pancakes.”
“Excellent choice, my fine companion. After you.”
She grandly bows to them and extends her hoof towards the door. She’s probably laying it on a little thick, but Astral likes it. She sees their little smirk.
At some point, she should make sure the weather team knows she’s not dead. It can wait, though.

The Oblivious Game I Want to Lose (Without Losing You) [Chapter Three]
This one is short and messy, because I’m truly fighting creative block here. Stumbling out Google Docs covered in blood, nevertheless, I hope you like it :D
Viktor x Fem!(Hopeless Romantic!)Reader----1.9K----SFW
> M A S T E R L I S T <
Summary: You and Viktor have bonding time! (even if one is a little skeptic about it)
Tags: Friends to Lovers| Not-Actually-Unrequited-Love| Hidden Feelings| Crushes| Slow-Burn| Oblivious (both Viktor and Reader)| Romantic Fluff| Veeery light angst|
You settled across from him at the desk, a tray with two cups of two chocolate and cookies on its surface. Silence lingered heavily inside the studio as Viktor sipped his beverage and you munched a bunch of cookies.
It took you a couple of minutes to gain courage enough to say:
“I’m sorry…”, at the same time Viktor commented:
“I apologize—”
Stopping midway to the double interruptions, you automatically locked gazes, feeling your cheeks burn. If Viktor noticed, he cleared his throat and averted his eyes toward the garden.
“It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have behaved like a child. I’m truly sorry, Mister Viktor. You’re just doing your job.”
Viktor lowered his gaze, brows slightly pinched together.
“Nevertheless, I shouldn’t have judged you like I did, Miss. I’m your tutor and I didn’t act like a professional. I’m sure you have your… eh, your reasons.” He efforted not to look toward the shelf at his back, but you did.
Rather than get angry for him to looking at your things without permission, you chuckled. "I do, yes. But they aren't less childish." You signaled at the photos slightly crooked in their positions for when Viktor scanned them moments ago. "Perhaps my father is right and I should stop dreaming like if I were still the kid in those photos. But… it’s difficult, I guess. I wanted to be like my mother—she achieved so much, coming from the Undercity into Piltover. But ever since her death, my father has been doing everything in his power to make me a useful heir.”
He squinted his eyes, resting his elbows over the desk. "I don't mean to pry, but I think you can achieve your goal and fulfill your duties all the same.”
“My goal?” you repeated, arching an eyebrow. “How do you…”
It was Viktor’s turn for his face to get all red. “I—eh, I worked for the Music Faculty as a technician assistant in the auditorium. I oversaw the auditions for a couple of years.”
You grunted, hiding your face between your hands. "Well, that makes this situation much more embarrassing."
Viktor smiled softly, even if you couldn’t see him.
“If it makes you feel better, I think I can help your situation. If you let me, of course.”
"Why would you want to help me?" you said, and Viktor knew it was a good question. He asked himself the same thing, but could never grasp a logical, concrete answer. It was a strange sensation localized deep within his being, warm and liquid as the hot chocolate that traveled down his throat to cover his stomach. The way sun illuminated the room with soft hues of gold contrasting in your lashes and down your curious eyes.
"I… I don't know." He shrugged. "I suppose I want to help people from the Undercity, too. Alas…" Viktor shook his head, a sad smile expanding on his lips while looking directly, intently. "I can't do it at the moment. I can only help you.”
“So you’re saying, I’m your testing experiment.” You chuckled, an airy sound Viktor found… interesting, for sure. “I don’t mind. I judge you’re smart if my father considers you for tutoring me.”
Viktor blinked, feeling the tips of his ears getting warm. “Then, do you trust me?”
“Sure. I wouldn’t have answered when you knocked on my door if I didn’t.”
He nodded. “Good. Thank you for the vote of confidence. Hear me out first, the beginning of my idea may not be that appealing to you, but I promise you it can work if you wish so.”
You frowned. “Alright…”
"The main issue here is one that plagues many people here, especially creators of any kind. You want the liberty to make whatever you desire with your life. However, your patron—your father—wants you to do another thing. First, you have to follow his demands, and with time, Mr. Ventos would just let you be. Because you’ll know what you must do, which I assume is engross the capital of the Ventos’ business.” Viktor tapped the plates of cookies, now almost empty. “But with time you learn, you wait for a suitable opportunity. You’re Mr. Ventos' sole heir. You can have many opportunities like those if you wait for enough to make a name for yourself and wield that power."
You were looking at him with widened eyes, fingers froze in the handle of your cup.
“Why do I think you’re saying this from experience?”
“You know, I don’t want to be Heimerdinger’s assistant all my life.” He said, and then, just like an afterthought. “Miss.”
You smiled, saying your name between a drink of your now cold chocolate. “I believe if we’re going to follow your plan, you should refer to me by my first name.”
He wasn’t expecting that.
“Then, do I assume I’m still your tutor?”
"Only if you can handle me." You put three cookies inside your mouth, only because if you'd had your lips unoccupied, maybe you'll say another stupid thing.
Viktor blinked. “I think I can. Only if you promise don’t doodle me without telling me again." He put out your notes from his bag, and you lowered your head, just a little to look at him from behind your lashes. "Besides, I don't have a nose that big."
You laughed wholly this time, taking the notes and quickly tucked them into your lap.
“You do, but you’re still handsome,” you said, and then quickly added: “You’re saying that if I graduate from the Academy, my father will let me alone?”
"No. You said he wants you to be a useful heir, right? You'd probably have to work a little bit inside your family business."
You groaned, but Viktor gestured while he finished his sentence. “Especially because, if I recall correctly, your father will rather marry you off rather than let you disobey his wishes. Am I wrong?”
“No, you aren’t.” Your voice was a thin thread Viktor had to lean closer to listen. “I hate this so much—” you started, cut in the middle of your rant. “And I hate being so whiny. I’m sorry, Viktor. I know I’m annoying you.”
“You wouldn’t annoy me if we continue our lesson.” Viktor signaled the incomplete equation, a small smile playing while he gave you a pencil, fingers almost brushing. “Mmmh?”
“Alright.” You finished your drink, pushing the plate with the last cookie toward him. “Have it, please, it’s yours. For your help.”
He shyly took it, muttering a "thank you", before his speech returned to formal, voice firm and clear as Viktor explained what you were supposed to do. This time, Viktor would tap your notes or call your name every time you got distracted, even taking little breaks between long explanations and difficult problems.
In those breaks, you talked about your personal life.
“Why did you decide on being my tutor, Viktor? I’ve heard even if the money is tempting, many quit.”
“I wonder why would it be,” he said mockingly. You pretended to glare at him, but you were laughing too much for it to be considered credible. “Your Father told me something that implied that you were from the Undercity… like me. Though I didn’t know your mother was from the Undercity. She married into a very important family.”
You scoffed. “I hope she didn’t. I believe she would’ve preferred not to, in the end.”
“But then you wouldn’t have been born—” Viktor started, but your sour chortle interrupted him.
“It doesn’t matter,” you reassured him with a tense smile that didn’t reach up to your eyes getting shinier with trapped tears. And Viktor silently hoped you didn't start to cry because he wouldn't know what to do.  “She would be still alive, too,” you muttered, lips barely open which made the words unintelligible for him to hear correctly.
Viktor tried to reach up but wasn't sure if touching you was the correct thing to do. So he poured you half a cup of hot chocolate from the little kettle, shaky fingers as he put the little porcelain thing over your notes for you to notice.
“Still, I’m happy to be here,” you added, seeing the looming mood that was starting to conquer Viktor’s eyes. “I met you, at least.”
He didn’t know what to say, feeling once again his face warming up.
You fidget with your fingers, nails clicking around the cup’s ring as you locked your gaze on the desk. “Can we… be friends, Viktor?”
He blinked, feeling his heartbeat raise with no logical cause. It wasn’t that important, Viktor tried to convince himself. Of course, you’d be the first person that openly asked about forming a friendship with him. Nothing too relevant. Why would anyone be interested anyway? He was always hidden in the library, scribbling away, or inside Heimerdinger’s office filing out paperwork.
But a change would be good. And it would be awkward for your tutoring sessions if Viktor refused—surely it was a trick on your end too, so he couldn’t back up from helping you.
An intelligent move indeed.
Viktor extended one hand toward you, smiling politely as he did it toward other merchant families and even some other members of the Academy faculties. “It will be my pleasure.”
Your hand touched his not without caution. His fingers were slim and long, palm slightly cold. He pressed your palm into his, a gentle touch that shouldn’t have lasted as much as it did.
The door at the entrance of the studio opened just enough for a maid’s voice to filter through the wood.
“Young Mistress, you’re expected in the garden to have dinner in an hour.”
Viktor quickly broke the contact, sweat prickling the nape of his neck as he felt the tip of his ears burn with shame—though he wasn’t doing anything inappropriate.
You smiled apologetically, and Viktor consulted his watch. It was indeed half an hour past his scheduled session.
“I’ll see you in two days, Viktor!” you beamed, jumping to your feet when the maid closed the door as fast as she appeared. "Be careful on the way home! You can grab an umbrella on your way out—I don't it's going to rain, but oh I wish so.”
He chuckled as you entered the same lateral door Viktor knocked on hours before. A maid quickly surrounded you with a dress, slamming the door when she discovered Viktor was peeking inside.
All he could see was half a shelf covered in books, plushies adorning a white couch, and a fluffy blue carpet adorning the entirety of the floor. It seemed even your bedroom was light blue and white.
Your notes were covered in cookie crumbs when he was piling them in order, looking with an almost unnoticeable smile at the last cookie you left on the plate for him. It tasted like nuts, filled with mousse that smelled like vanilla. It was shaped like a little flower.
From all your notes, he only took back home the one where you had doodled him. Like a silly souvenir, Viktor repeated in his mind on a loop as he walked back home. A silly souvenir of his first friendship.
Even if it wasn’t a genuine one.

hello! much love to your fics with rosie and brady. i could go on and on about them, and how well you've crafted the women of silver bullets. i did have a question:
as someone who loves writing and MOTA, and has let that churn in my head and onto a Google Doc as a full-blown, multi-chaptered fic (it's Benny x OC), i want to share it somewhere, for no reason other than i love to write and i love MOTA. but i've never had a full on Tumblr blog, and i don't really know where to start. do you have any advice?
hey anon!! thanks so much for stopping by, i hope you're well!! :D AWE thanks so much!! you're too kind!! they've been very, very fun to write alongside the silver bullet ladies, so i really do appreciate that!! :') i'm excited for what's to come with the bunch! <3 thank you again!
OOOOOO OMGGG!!!! that sounds MEGA fun (especially a benny x oc, as a benny girlie i *LOVE*). okay! so, i can relate this back to how i started with writing and uploading and all - in late 2018 (jeez that was a WHILE ago), i started watching Band of Brothers and then was like - i want to write about this but with an OC - and eventually started writing, but....didn't know where to go from there. i was in the fandom, but didn't talk to many people and just didn't feel comfortable putting my writing out there. i eventually chatted a bit to someone else who was writing BoB OC fic and they gave me the courage to really go for it and post it! they were someone i could really talk to, which helped me to understand my writing, my OC, and my development for the story as i went. having someone there to be your cheerleader and help you navigate things - i found that to be incredibly helpful!! :)
i'll keep typing under the cut haha
SO, i ended up posting the fic and it really gave me a driving force to keep creating and writing, and each time i uploaded, i became more and more confident. i initially posted to Wattpad, but then i started expanding more on here, and trying to do more and then began posting my third BoB fic on both AO3 and Wattpad and that seemed to draw in interested people, and i have since continued with that platform from there.
i'll be honest - i've gotten busier over the years, so i've slowed a bit with how much content i put out, but make it manageable for yourself and what you want to read and write and enjoy! i struggled a lot with that, but finding your groove and what you enjoy is definitely one of the more important factors of it all :) i split between MOTA and BoB and write when i have some extra time, and what i feel like writing and it makes things enjoyable!!
another thing i've really loved - writing snippets, posting moodboards, song inspo, writing one-shots/taking prompts - it helped me to understand characters and dynamics much better than i thought it would! and drew some people who were interested in as well! it was just fun to create and feel some enjoyment with those OCs and characters through the years!
i think always go with what you're comfortable with, but posting about the fic, putting it on tumblr/AO3/Wattpad, wherever you are comfortable posting, or chatting with people is always just things that i've done and seen others do, but i always do it to the extent that i find fun and enjoyable - and there are SO MANY wonderful people who would love to chat, read and discuss anything MOTA/MOTA-fic related (including me haha!), so explore and enjoy!!
this wasn't entirely coherent, but is how i usually go about things at a pace i think is manageable for a busy college student!! do what you love and enjoy!!! SIKED to hear more about this benny x oc fic haha!! :D

Any advice on starting to write? I just want to do some hobby writing mostly fanfic. I have ideas pouring out of my head and I’m constantly thinking up of whole ass scenes in my head with dialogue and everything. But when I go to write I can only do it for what feels like 10 minutes and i crap out and I find it hard to get back into the story I was thinking up and not doing a different one
There are a million "How To Write" books and websites and YouTube tutorials and every author and wannabe author has their own set of suggestions.
The key part (here I am, another aspiring writer full of advice) is:
Figure out what your stall points are, and work on them.
Find out what circumstances work for you, and re-create those. Expand where possible.
Can you write dialogue for hours but as soon as you have to write a scene change, you get stuck and give up? Fine. Just write banter. Throw in notes like "SCENE CHANGE HERE - LATER, IN THE KITCHEN..."
Or can you write internal character-focus thoughts but not dialogue? Again... write what works. Add the other parts later.
Can you get stuff written if you have three tabs open with different stories and you switch between working on them? Fine; do that.
Do you write better with a playlist in the background - or do you keep stopping it to switch songs or add new ones? Does the Pomodoro method (just google it) work for you, or do you need long uninterrupted time blocks? Do you get more writing done on a paper notebook (which you'll then have to scan or type), in a Google Doc, in a program like Word, in a raw text editor, with something like Written?Kitten!, or a story-organizer like Scrivener?
Do you work better with a deadline? (I work much better with a deadline. I get a lot of stories done by deciding long in advance what I'm going to write, doing a mad rush of research and note-writing, and then... ignoring the whole thing until the deadline's getting close, and then slamming out the story in a couple of days, because apparently it had formed the rest of itself in the back of my mind.)
Try a few different methods, including a couple that seem counter-intuitive. Note which one lets you get more writing done. Start with that.
Not because "you should start with what's easy," but you should start with whatever makes you able to write, and work on expanding that to other areas.
This year's NaNoWriMo is going well for me, because I grabbed one of those fanfics that have been noodling around in my head for years - heavy on dialogue and epic emotional impact scenes - and realized "oh hey I have a LOT of scenes planned for this, in something like an order... I will try writing them up and calling that a novel."
(9 scenes done, 21 to go, with 10-ish more that have to happen but don't have to be onscreen" - 42k words. No way I'm getting done with this story by the end of NaNo.)
What works for me: Detailed plotlines in an outline. I have to know where the story is going or I stall out quickly. I sometimes wind up throwing away or changing those details, but I need a direction to get started.
I also need all the worldbuilding details in advance or while I'm writing. I write with the fandom wiki open in a dozen tabs so I can check character birthdays, heights, who showed up in what canon episode, and so on. If I can't look them up, I get stalled out trying to decide how to phrase things in case the details have to change later.
For some writers, that'd be a horrible distraction - if they stop to look up a detail, they won't get back to the writing. For them, it's better if they just highlight or otherwise mark the details they're not sure of, and fix them later in editing.
Recently, I've gotten a lot of value out of this:
youtube
Turns out, I'm a "methodological plotter." I need as much structure as possible figured out in advance so I can fill in the scenes.
The descriptions of the types were a little hard for me to follow. The advice of "you may find yourself with this problem... so try doing this..." is what clinched it for me. Methodological Plotter is the one where all the advice made sense, the one where I said "oh, THAT's how you fix that thing? Oh good. I'll try that."
Try anything that sounds like it might work for you. The initial goal is GET WORDS ON PAGE. Not write an excellent story. Not write a complete beginning-middle-end story. Not convey the emotions that are running through your head. Words on page. That's where you start.
Some people manage this by titling the top of the page "Crappy First Draft." Give yourself permission to write badly. To break the rules of language, to write boring dry descriptions, to write repetitive dialogue that goes "he said, she said" after every phrase, to use clichés, to bring modern idioms into a historical setting, to change verb tenses and POVs every few paragraphs, to include stupid author's notes...
Whatever it takes to get words on the page.
Later, once you've found what works for you, what makes it possible for you to finish a story - you can work on whatever bad habits you think you have.
Give yourself permission to fail to do justice to the amazing story in your head. Because that's the only way it's going to get on the page so that you can polish it into the gem it's supposed to be.

hi Kat! going to be greedy here: 🛠, 🤗, and 🧠 for Nile, if you would be so kind
Hi Bee! Thanks for the ask 🤩
🛠 What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?
Google docs all the way!  Love organizing everything - some of my fics have gotten the full treatment with color coded folders and everything lol.  And honestly I love being able to quickly check something or add a note if something popped in my head between devices - very useful when I'm in between appointments.  But it never served me better than when my laptop finally died - just booted up the new one, signed in online, and there was everything :)
🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?
Oh good one!  Let's see, I'll likely sound like a broken record but my first bit would be, "don't do it for popularity."  And don't do it for friendship either (AO3 is not a social app, so if you're looking for community, there's other avenues to explore for that - plus far less time consuming ways to make friends online lol).  Honestly some of the people I have talked to the most online in fandom spaces have never read one of my stories, and I've never thought anything about it, because hey, I wrote my stories for myself.  And seriously, when you do it for yourself, then whatever comes after is just a wonderful bonus.  But yeah, give yourself some self examination time to ask: why do I want to write?
As for the "What should I write" aspect that tends to follow right after deciding to write, my advice is the same one I read years ago that has shaped my own decision making process when I encounter my WIP folders: "write what you would have loved to have read as a teen."  Because it'll either be a healing thing to see a message that you would have wished you had growing up.  Or, it will be a joyful, fun thing, that simultaneously serves as play therapy.  Either way, it can then become a truly healing experience (at least it has for me), and for all you know, the very thing that brought healing and/or joy to you, might just do the same for someone else.
And don't sweat the stats too much, it's natural to want to validate hard work and see numbers that reflect it - but when it comes to fic, the story will find who it's meant to at some point.
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them - for Nile
Oh!  For Nile, my favorite fanon is that she'll remain Christian, bond with Nicky over their faiths (have I written this? Yupppp).  But also, she'll bond with Joe over all the art things :)  With Andy, she'll bond over fighting lol, and with Booker, I ship the same as most people in that she'll be the one texting him the most just to casually check in.
Of course that's all post canon, when it comes to her character and backstory, I identify so much with her character - both as a Christian, military brat and though my father has not passed, became a wounded vet when I was 17.  It's not something I'd share the details about or expand on in this fandom in a public way (both for my privacy and for his), but I have all sorts of feelings about her that I don't mind discussing in private, just from that aspect of a daughter of a soldier :)
Thanks for the ask love ❤️

any of the goodbye yellow brick road series: 2, 7, 8, 12
love you linking to this in case anyone else ever wants to actually read it lmfao 😔
2. what program did you use to write this fic (word, google docs, etc)? is that the program you use for all your fics?
i use google docs for motownfiction! the reason for that is that copying and pasting from word into tumblr looks fucked up, and i don't like it. but when i'm writing something "serious" (e.g. the novella about charlie and daniel, which i actually wrote before any of these vignettes), i use word.
7. what inspired the idea for the plot?
well, that charlie and daniel novella hinged on the fact that sam was dead, and i knew that i would have to actually cover that when i decided to expand the universe. there's not really a plot to this series as much as there are just ... character moments and personal developments ... but part of what i've been really into lately is highlighting the parallels between will and sadie (our protagonist's two favorite people, save for her daughters), and i was especially interested in how those parallels would look under the circumstances of extreme grief and doubt. here, will has lost his best friend in the world, and sadie has lost her twin (or, as she often puts it, herself outside of herself). they don't know what to do with themselves now that this big part of their lives is gone and never coming back. so, what i was interested in was showing the ways in which sadie and will kind of "switch places" under this kind of pressure. will becomes a teacher (of sorts) and takes up a lot of volunteer work; sadie recklessly drives around the metro detroit area without a real clue of where she wants to go, if anywhere. they're feeling similar grief and hiding behind smaller facets of their personalities to mitigate those feelings, and in the end, they're the only people who will ever get this grief in the same way. lucy can try, but for as much as she loved sam, she's not in the same place.
i've also been really interested in highlighting the parallels between lucy and sam, who always wanted life to be more than what it was. lucy and sam are my lofty goals squad. but now that sam is dead, poor lucy is part of a broken parallel. that's something she has to wrestle with, but considering her own emotional immaturity, it's not something she's good at. she needs to get good at it.
also, since this doesn't constitute a spoiler, this is the series where we'll see a foundation between charlie and elenore. i needed to establish that so that it made more sense than ... previous iterations of a similar dynamic.
8. what inspired the title for this fic? is that usually how you choose titles?
i mean, yeah, it's named after elton john's "goodbye yellow brick road," which is so funny because i'm not much of an elton john fan in my daily life (i don't hate him or anything -- just not someone i typically gravitate toward, with a few exceptions). it was between this and something from david bowie's "starman," but i went with this one because i thought bringing in imagery from the wizard of oz worked well for what the characters are going through. grief has launched them into a dimension that they didn't think could possibly exist, and all they want to do is go home. plus, in this universe, it's elenore (not carrie) who relates hardcore to dorothy gale, which i'm pretty sure i'll explore in this series. and i do normally choose song titles and lyrics! it's just easy and fun and i think it works really well with the motown/musical themes of the universe as a whole.
12. was there a scene you wished you could have included? why didn’t it fit in?
in the most recent vignette, i really wanted to follow lucy out into the living room after she cries. that way, we could see her with will and the girls, since i've never actually written a scene of all four of them together before. but it was just getting really, really long, and i thought i'd better cut it at lucy crying and save the callaghan-o'connor family scene for later. i'll get there!

Hocotation Headcannons/Star Touched AU Intro Thingy
Hi hello I have been working on a shiny new AU. Best way I can describe it is being like Pikmin+. For the most part it’s just me adding on new stuff to cannon stuff. Have a whole story idea for it and everything, but for now let’s keep it simple with this! Headcannons about Hocotate and Hocotations! Yay!
And as always with world building, it exists so that the characters and story can break + challenge the rules/expectations set before them.
Tumblr media
[Image ID has been moved to image's alt text]
Yeah!!! Uh, with that, I’m just going to copy paste what I have written down in my big ole google doc!!!
The Planet
Hocotate as a planet is fairly small, and very cold. It lies just within the habitable zone of its red star, so while it can support life only the hardiest of creatures can survive. Two moons orbit the planet, an icey blue moon and an iron-rich red moon (that is also still fairly icey despite appearances!) alongside some rings made mostly of dust and ice. Ships coming to and from the planet must take care not to fly through a ring, or they risk damage to their ship.
Hocotate's land masses are rather interesting as there are no true continents. Rather, a series of sub continents in the form of large islands are peppered across the planet's surface. Smaller islands are, of course, present as well. The largest sub continents take about 3-4 days of constant driving via car to cross, assuming traffic won't stop you (which it will). It generally takes only 2-3 days of constant motion by a modern boat to get between the various land masses.
Being so cold, the polar circles on Hocotate are proportionally larger than those of Earth. The very ends of each pole are almost completely inhospitable due to low temperatures. The only lifeforms that live there don't quite count, as they're microscopic organisms at the bottom of the ocean eating funky chemical soup from underwater volcanoes that are considerably warmer than the ice caps far above them.
The only real "temperate" zone of Hocotate is found at its equator. Yes, the hottest spots on Hocotate (aside from volcanic areas of course) don't get much hotter than 85°F/64°C during the summer. Winters are the mildest here, being about 42°F/27°C. For better comparisons, I used the weather history for Columbus, Ohio as reference for their equator temperatures.
The rest of the planet's habitable zones really only have two modes: summer and winter. There is an inbetween stage of course, but the springs and autumns move by very quickly. Summers in these zones are very cool, and on the hottest of days you could get away with a thinner long sleeve if you really wanted to. Think 60-70°F/40-50°C range. Their winters, however, are brutal. Temperatures will drop below freezing, and heavy snowfall will coat the land.
Fresh liquid water tends to be rare to find, as most is either frozen or salt water, though modern technology has managed to negate that.
Biology
Hocotations have many natural adaptations to combat the cold, as it is what most Hocotations will be dealing with most of the time.
The first and most obvious to many is the fact they are fuzzy. They have a fur coat comparable to that of a short-haired house cat, which comes in a variety of shades of brown and cream colors. Flushing of the skin is still visible through the fur though. It'll bristle and raise whenever a Hocotation is cold, scared, or angry. It keeps them quite warm on their planet, though fairly miserable on warmer ones (and desert worlds like Koppai are literally hell for them).
Their eyes generally appear to be mostly pupils because of fresh liquid water once being rare! Pupils help filter light, and will expand/contract based on how much light is needed. Water (and ice, if they're desperate enough to boil some for water) is very shiny, and thus they can catch the glittering of it easier. This is also why they love treasure and generally shiny things so much - they're subconsciously programmed to think shiny = will keep you alive. This is also why humans love shiny things so much! Though it is a little more extreme in Hocotations.
Hocotations are omnivorous! While they can eat any food type at any time, they do tend to eat mainly vegetables in the summer and meat during the winter. Because Hocotations will "hole up" during winter (more on that later) and because vegetable crops tend to be their most popular export, a lot of other races tend to assume they're vegetarian. They do have some very sharp teeth though! They can also rarely have a trait that gives them longer and pointer tongues, but it does no harm nor no good for them. Just kinda is.
They have long pointed ears which will move about depending on emotion. They will perk up slightly when spooked or alert, droop down when angry or sad, and pin back slightly when annoyed. They also have a sharp sense of hearing, and their ears will twitch when they hear a sudden and/or loud noise.
Animals here are referred to by Earth animal names to provide the closet description for what the animal is. Think of it more like a translation than the actual words being used. Hocotation dogs, for example, resemble bulborbs far more than they do any Earth dog. But they're called "dogs'' to describe how they act and where they fit in the world. The same applies to whatever Earth plants Louie has mentioned - there are no avocados on Hocotate (at least, not before Koppaites were able to start exporting scaly custard), but there is an avocado-like plant.
Culture
Hocotate can best be compared to post-World War II Americana. It is an extremely hetro-normative society where monetary success is highly valued. While there are always exceptions, most families tend to follow a fairly strict "working husband, stay-at-home wife, 2.5 kids and a family pet" set up. Men tend to be expected to wear a business casual outfit even in casual scenarios, and women are expected to look "nice". And yes, that is a vague description.
Do the kiddos follow these expectations? Not really. Most tend to dress far more casually, and there is a young but quickly growing punk movement. Most adults brush it off as kids being kids, but these kiddos don't quite intend on changing when they're older.
They have a small handful of as-of-now unnamed holidays. Which ones are celebrated and how varies from region to region, but the general list is as follows:
A new year's celebration at the beginning of spring, also celebrating the coming of spring
A summer solstice festival, where families will go out on picnics and hit up local carnivals. The short night will be brightly lit for a few hours with paper lanterns and lights of all kinds.
A harvest festival in the fall, meant for seeing extended family one final time before winter.
The winter solstice is also celebrated, but has the most variance due to being in the middle of winter. Various areas and even various families have wildly different ways of celebrating, so it's impossible to pin down any one true way of celebrating.
The clothing worn during these holidays resemble Japanese kimonos. They'll wear soft close-toed slippers alongside these.
Their buildings are all specifically designed to deal with winter. Roofs look like a horizontal "{" (pointy bracket thing idk what it's called), allowing for some snow to build up and help insulate the house but still causing most to fall off as to not put too much weight on the house. The area is terraformed beforehand so that the house will stand on a hill. Garages, if present, will be part of the basement of the house. All houses are also at least two stories tall, with the second floor being home to a supply closet in which a snowmobile is kept. This closet will have an emergency staircase and pulley system attached to it to allow the snowmobile to be lifted into and out of the house. In cheaper houses, the second floor will be this supply closet and nothing else.
Ramps are used instead of staircases to walk up to house doors. This is mainly due to the natural Hocotation response to sliding on ice (as salting roads/stairs is pretty pointless for reasons we'll soon get into) working flawlessly on flat surfaces and inclines… but causing hard falls near edges and in turn, stairs.
Valleys are usually avoided at all costs, though some very cheap housing can be found there.
Buildings are unable to go above five stories in most of Hocotate, meaning most dense cities are just lines of five story buildings smushed together tightly. There's a single city that looks more like New York, complete with skyscrapers, but it's on the equator and is largely a tourist trap.
All of the above housing choices are due to Hocotate's brutal winters. Winter is not just freezing on Hocotate, but early winter brings with it a brutal storm that forces people to hunker down in their houses. The snow will pile up so high it is impossible to leave the house normally, and while the snowmobile is an option if needed it's generally considered unsafe. Everything in whichever hemisphere is experiencing winter will come to a full stop as families cuddle up inside. Having enough supplies to last through winter is a must, and they can easily put a conspiracy theorist's bomb shelter to shame in how much they'll stock up on. They cannot leave the house until early spring when the snow all melts away.
Richer Hocotations will usually just own a house in each hemisphere, and move to the other when winter is close.
Other
Hocotation school is structured much like American school. The big difference is that winter break lasts all winter (for… obvious reasons), and is the break between changing grade levels. They otherwise only get a week off in summer and fall, with occasional periods off for the various holidays.
Hocotate is an absolute capitalist hellscape. There are few laws/regulations to protect consumers and workers. It isn't nearly as bad as America's gilded age, but is still pretty terrible
As of the pikmin games, there are more workers than jobs that can actually support a person. Getting fired is detrimental, and finding jobs is a nightmare
There are LGBT+ rights on Hocotate, but they also are not always enforced. Homophobia is common but on a slow decline.
Hocotations are also known to keep small collections of items that mean something to them. These collections are highly personal and thus vary wildly, but can range from engagement rings to a cool pebble your friend found.
Hocotate also has a rather large amount of national parks/nature reserves, though most are in valleys people refuse to live in.
Hocotate's most practiced religion is a polytheistic one wherein families/communities/individuals (depending on where you go) will gravitate to one particular deity to study/worship. The belief in ghosts/spirits is also common even in otherwise nonreligious people.
Hocotate engineers just have to complete so many years of college and internships, compared to Koppai having apprenticeships. However, they can still choose to go to Koppai and be apprenticed, and be acknowledged as an engineer on Hocotate.
All you need for a space faring licence on Hocotate is to be 18 or older, a fairly clean driving record, and courses on how to fly + repair a ship. Needless to say, Hocotate is infamous for having the most lax rules when it comes to this (most other planets need a stricter driving record, to be 21, and to also take a first aid class).

K, this is probably a difficult question to answer, but how do you write smut so well? I want to do something for the upcoming holidays and every time I write smut it just doesn’t feel right. I’m asking all my favorite writers about their process and I’d love your input.
Hi Lisa love. I’m super super late to answering this phenomenal question, and I hope you’re still interested in my answer, but it’s one I think I need to answer for myself right now. I’ve probably included too much information about my general process but if you’d like me to expand more on smut specifically I can do that for you. 💖
My process always starts with an idea I can’t move away from.
It’s one where thoughts naturally build and not one where I’m like, “hey that’s awesome” and then move away from. This tends to happen when I’m driving to and/or from work. If I think about it for more than a day I write it down in my journal so I don’t forget it. What tends to happen though is I think about one idea and only one idea for a long time. My brain doesn’t like to move past a good idea once it’s in my head so what I end up doing a lot of the time is running with an idea as soon as I come up with it. I stew on it for a few days, get a feel for it, think of more lines of dialogue, think of more plot.
These ideas tend to be focused around a line of dirty talk or a snapshot of a moment in my head and from there I build outward. How did my characters get to that point? What is the setting? Where do they go from there?
Now, lately there are stories I’ve been working on where I do outline them. I have a traveler’s journal that is full of Stucky nonsense and one of the journals is my secret fic I’ve been working to build for a long time now. The other journal is just ideas for other fics or thoughts. If it requires thought and connections I outline it but most of the time I don’t do that.
Once I feel like I’m bursting at the seams with this idea I just…start writing.
If there are parts of ideas that I don’t want to forget I write them down but other than that I am very much a person who writes from start to finish and only in one draft. I absolutely hate jumping around in a story. I did it with NASBB and it was a nightmare for me. I know a lot of people want to roll with certain energies they get and write certain parts but that doesn’t work well for me. I like the build as a writer. I enjoy feeling it right alongside characters, I like the build between them as well as for me reaching the part I’ve been thinking about writing for a while now.
It’s not as fun for me when I write the one part that I’m excited to write and then have to go back and figure out how they got there and write backwards and jump around. I enjoy the flow of writing from start to finish and most of the time I’ve thought about it in my head for a long enough time that I don’t have moments where I stutter and am like, “fuck what was supposed to happen here??”
Things I do when I’m actively writing:
I write in Word bc I hate Google Docs.
Music is huge for me. I tend to listen to Lo-fi Music when I’m writing because words distract me.
Sitting at a desk or in another space that is not my bedroom is best.
Sprints with other writers always help! That’s where you just write for a given amount of time and then share your word count with them once time is up. They’re fun and makes me feel less lonely when I’m writing, ha.
I put my mf phone away.
I stand up and take frequent breaks.
I work on one story at a time and one story only. If I bounce between stories I lose the energy and the focus I need. Too many WIPs has my brain moving in too many different directions and it is no good.
Ask friends for hype. Never be afraid to ask people to hype you up.
When I’m writing smut, I tend to imagine it in my head like a movie. I think the build I’ve let fester within myself for a while helps me get emotions across the way I want them to, more intensely. I think putting myself in others’ shoes tends to help in situations like this, imagining what characters are going through would feel like, inside and out. I think I focus less on the physical act of sexual situations and more on how it feels to people, if that makes sense?
Like, if I’m writing someone giving another person a handjob I focus on writing more how it physically feels rather than the action itself. I won’t focus as much on the grip or the stroke or what the person is doing with their hand but I will focus on how it feels for that person, let the reader figure out what the person’s hand feels like through what the one receiving is experiencing.
I’m not sure if that makes sense. Show don’t tell, I guess.
Something that helped me grow with smut is not being afraid to put things on paper. If you need to blush as you write it out, do it, because that shit is more than likely super hot, ha. Also, if I have a reaction or thought, or I think a character would, even for a millisecond, I include it.
For dialogue or dirty talk, I write it out exactly how it sounds in my head. Y’all are probably so fucking sick and tired of my bitten-off words or my smushed together words, but I write it out exactly as it sounds. Fuck correct sentence structure, fuck grammar—write it out how it sounds exactly.
Once I’m done writing, or when I’m close enough to the end, I share with a few people to get their input. I make sure and tell them what I’m warry about or what I want from them specifically, whether that be hype or grammar or a section. I’ll transfer my work over to a Google Doc and share it with them so they can comment and read through. I’ll also take this time to read it through and give her a good once-over as well. I am someone who, once it is given the green light by others, I want to post and share immediately.
I tend to have a massive burst of writing energy after I post a fic and start reading feedback but I’ve learned that I need to bask in the feedback of a fic before jumping right into another.
But jesus christ writing is hard and it sucks sometimes and I’m learning to be better at certain things. Sometimes the action of writing is so difficult, especially in a fandom that is saturated in that good good content. There are so many ideas floating around and sometimes it is so hard to see so many people just pumping out incredible content and to not feel negatively about yourself. This was something that took me a while to accept and to embrace, to shift my outlook on it and the energy it gives me.
I’ve learned I can’t force it. If I’m not feeling it, I’m not feeling it and I need to channel my energy elsewhere. Sometimes the words flow right out of my fingers and other times I stare at my computer screen for an hour and have barely put together 3 sentences.
This is something I’m really struggling with at the moment. I have a ton of ideas and open docs (that’s probably my issue) and I can’t write the way I tend to be able to. Here I am giving you advice I literally need to take myself. Sometimes it won’t happen, and we need to show ourselves grace, to be nice to ourselves.
I know you said you would be writing something for the holidays and that the holidays have passed, but I hope you were able to do so. Even if you weren’t, I hope you don’t feel super bad about it because the time will come where you’ll be so ready to write again. Maybe starts small. When things don’t come to me I go to my Inbox and see if I can answer a lil’ somethin’ somethin’. Doesn’t have to be this large grandiose idea.
Lub you with all my heart. Thank you for such a good question. 💖

1. what fandoms have you written for (but do not currently)?
um i didn't rly write for any fandoms when i was younger, but i knew my 12yo self was probably conjuring harry potter headcanons in my head D:
2. what fandoms are you currently writing for?
for now, and for a long time, i've been writing for bts. i've like always been a multi from the moment i got into kpop but i've never actually fleshed out any of the wips i had for any other groups LMFAO. honorable mentions are got7, skz, haikyuu yup
3. how long have you been writing?
a longggg time, i think. i enjoyed writing fiction as a kid a lot. most of it would be like off-brand spy kids/harry potter/hunger games type beat stuff. and it was awful. but i was literally like 9 so cut me some slackLKSDFJSLKDjf
4. on which platforms do you post your stories?
primarily tumblr and i only recently made an ao3 acc. the only fic i have on there is a tae drabble that's already posted on here LOL. i think it's 'resolutely, yours.' but i don't even remember bye. i remember i drafted drivers license on there but i literally forgot to post it so it's probably gone HAHA.
5. what is your favourite genre to write?
e2l even though i have no e2l fics on this blog i think
6. are you a pantser or a planner?
i used to never plan my fics, like at all. but then i was so unsatisfied with the flow of things and like idk lack of clarity. drivers license was the first time i actually sat down and planned out an entire fic as i was writing it. it rly does make things easier when u have an idea of what u want. and then just having the idea can help you possibly expand on it and get even better ideas off of it. the events of drivers license and the order it was all written in changed like 20394803 times. but yeah, does that make sense... LMFAO
7. one shot or multi-chapter?
one shots because i can never fucking get myself to finish a series. i love reading them tho
8. what is the perfect chapter length in your opinion?
no clue. i love long stories and slow burn tho, it's just so satisfying and $wag when it's well-written and the characters are well-written too.
9. what is your longest published story? is it complete?
the fic i'm about to post is nearing 20k, and it might even surpass that which will end up being the longest story on this blog. insane! drivers license is around 10k i think, and then if u combine the wnrs couple's fics it's like 15k? im too lazy to look tbh SRy
10. which story did you enjoy working on the most?
oh drivers license for sure! i don't think i've ever immersed myself and put so much effort into a story before. it was truly an amazing experience, and i just know that i'll probably never be able to write anything like that fic ever again. it's rly one of a kind for me.
11. favourite request you've have written and why (if any?)
most of the requests i had on this blog got taken down bc they were so bad. i'm not sure if the yoongi superhero!au is still up on here, but i'd choose that one since i really had to branch out of my writing style for it. regardless of it being like barely 2k.
12. are there reoccurring themes in your stories?
miscommunication, so much banter, i used to see this a lot but i would take it out but... head bonking ??LSKDFJHAHA, my side characters being dumbasses and then my main characters being even bigger dumbasses (oc probably being the biggest dumbass)
13. current number of wips?
during the course of writing the current fic i plan on posting this week, i created like 5 wips and they all hit 5k, and then i straight up abandoned them. and then the endless idea bank google doc. so if i count the wips i for sure want to finish by like this year or summer... like 3 or 4.
14. three things you have noticed about your own writing?
i feel like i repeat stuff a lot throughout all my stories LOL,, it irks me so bad. i think i relate to all my ocs in at least one way or another.
15. a quote you like from a published story
alrighty this is a lil snippet from 'drivers license':
this is from the second letter oc wrote to jk:
"The same delusional daydreamer hopes that one day we can talk and laugh like old pals. Like nothing ever changed between us. I hope you achieve your dreams that you always thought seem too far-fetched, yet in the back of my mind I always knew you could easily grasp. I hope someday you can live a life of lesser worries and insecurities, because you rarely had any to start off with. I always hoped the world for you, because you deserve it. And despite everything, I still believe you do."
this paragraph seems pretty simple but i think it did the best job of like describing oc's emotions and realization of things,, its kinda cliche tew yas love that
16. a quote from an unpublished story
alr this is from the e2l jimin series that is going to take me forever to write bc the outline for it is SO LONG
“Would it kill you to at least show up with a shirt on?“ You sneer, patting your forehead with the back of your hand due to the sweltering sun. The event hasn’t even started yet and you can already feel your hair sticking to the back of your neck.
Crossing his arms, he scoffs, his biceps bulging out as his arms bend. Not like you were staring at them. “Sorry couldn’t hear you, too busy boosting the school’s morale.”
17. space for you to say something to your readers
i feel like i don't show enough appreciation to my readers and mutual on this blog. i have met so many lovely people and have gotten so much support, i hope u all know that it does NOT go unnoticed. i always tend to go back and reread all the comments and asks that i get on my stories bc it rly does make my heart soar. it makes my day!!! thank u all for sticking with me thru all my 3am shitposts and inconsistent writing schedule LOL,, you all have my whole heart and some more <3

Ignite (Avengers/Bucky Barnes Fanfiction) Chapter 1 - Everyone Has a Beginning
Tumblr media
Hello!
I am going to start off with a little sidenote before we get started here. I started this as a side blog so it is not my usual writings (I usually write kpop ff) but I have been feeling the Marvel writing vibes lately so thought that I would put myself out there with what I've had in my google docs so please be kind.
Also, I appreciate constructive critisism, it helps me write and mold my characters/ideas and I also just love hearing what you think. I'm a bit rusty right now with my writing and there may be times where things aren't consistant with updates cause I'm getting back into school soon, but here we go!
Sincerly, Doctor Stark
Oh, I almost forgot...
If you have seen SHIELD you know who AIDA is but in this story she is the equialent of FRIDAY.
Also you'll see that my OC has the same power as Quake/Daisy Johnson because I was like "WHAT POWER COULD MY CHARACTER POSSIBLY HAVE?!"
N/N = Nickname
Warnings: None...some language?
"AIDA, if anyone calls please just send it to voicemail...I really don't want to hear from the New York Times for the...." I stopped as I set my keys on my kitchen island, "AIDA?"
"Doctor Stark, it seems that my security protocols have been over run," AIDA finally replied, "I tried contacting you but it seems that he has also managed to cut into my communications."
By now I had noticed the figure that was sitting on my couch and I cautiously approached my living room like I was entering the room with a wild animal.
"Should I try to see if I can get through to Mr. Stark," AIDA questioned.
"No," I said as I finally made eye contact with the man on the couch, "He came all this way instead of fleaing the country immediatly...he has questions. You won't hurt me, will you Bucky?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me back up for a moment and introduce myself, my name is Y/F/N M.I. Stark aka N/N Stark better known as Doctor Stark. For the longest time I was just Howard Stark’s genius daughter who people barely remembered existed. I rather liked it that way though, while Tony spent his time in California soaking up the sun, partying, sleeping around, getting kidnapped for 3 months, doing some work on the side, and now becoming Iron Man (have no idea how Pepper does it)...I spend my time in New York between working at Stark Tower and doing some side consulting in DC and some...other business that takes place during my consulting. But other than that, I tend to stay in the shadows. Well, I used to be able to stay in the shadows. Then of course Tony decided that be would become Iron Man and I become someone that everyone had questions for but they weren’t going to get answers from.
Currently I live in New York just outside the city which has its perks; I have a decent sized house customized for my own needs, a yard, a pool, a fence (iron with perimeter security), a gate for my driveway, and neighbors that I can chat with.
You know, feel normal even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
Downfall is the commute. But since I am one of the owners of the company, being a little late isn’t that big of a deal for me unless I had something planned.
Now, even though Tony was Iron Man I couldn’t blame him completely for all the calls I get now. Now after the powers that I now have had been seen during the whole drone fiasco at Stark Expo. And that is something that should really be explained...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ever heard of an Agent Peggy Carter? She’s a wonderful woman and a close family friend, so close in fact that growing up I started to call her Aunt Peggy; after my parents died and Tony just about completely separated himself from the fact that he had a little sister who was 15 and in college, I could always count on Aunt Peggy when I needed someone to talk to. But as we know, a good Agent keeps her secrets and only reveals them when the time is right.
By the time I turned 21 I had completed my PhD in biomedical engineering and electrical and computer science as well as a doctorate in biochemistry (7 years of college and sleepless nights, taking more classes than I probably should have, but I did it). At the time I was just getting myself acquainted to my new office space at Stark Tower (during that time I only occupied the 80th floor) and my research and projects at a slow pace.
“Don’t feel like you have to run,” Tony said only half paying attention to me, “Start slow, you know Stark Industries just as well as anyone, you’ll be running the tower before you know it.”
I had to admit that he was right; I had been in Stark Tower thousands of times it seemed but this was new for me. But then Aunt Peggy came along and gave me that extra push that I needed.
She had said she had an office warming gift for me; what I wasn’t expecting was the almost 30 boxes of old files, some dating as far back as 1939.
“Your father was a great man, a fool at times, but a great man,” she started, “Throughout his career as both the founder Stark Industries and of SHIELD, meticulously hid his files and personal work in different places. He once told me and Edwin Jarvis the location of all the information and who to give it to should something ever happen to him.”
“Shouldn’t this be going to Tony then?” I questioned, “If this is his work then-“
She held up her hand and I stopped, letting her continue. “I remember one very particular evening when your parents had invited me out for dinner. You had just gone off to college...his little girl.”
I snorted trying to imagine my father gushing over his kids like any regular dad would and in my head it just wasn’t happening.
“He didn’t show a lot of emotion because he wanted you two to be able to face the world as it is...but for him it was hard seeing his little girl off to college even earlier than most dads would. But we did have a conversation that leads to the elephant...or should I say boxes in the room,” she said as she walked over towards them, “He said that both his children were born protégées, both were born to carry on what he had started. However, while they both possess the talents to change the world, one is more so the leader and the other the backbone.”
She opened the box in front of her that had a large ‘(Your Initials)’ written on the front of it. “He said, First born or not, had he not felt like Tony had the potential to lead, you would have become the head of Stark Industries,” she said, pulling a book from the box and holding it out to me, “Your father believed that you are the backbone to the very company that you stand in today, which is why I am now giving you these, just as he asked...keep them safe.”
And in Aunt Peggy style she left me to soak in the information that she had just told me, and to move the boxes to a room that only I could get into. I spent every waking moment going through the boxes, sorting them, trying to find what had gone wrong to make him tuck certain things away.
I found some items that I wondered why he even kept. Was it a reminder not to mess with it? A way for someone to know what to do should they see one? I didn’t know but it was staying under lock and key, that was for sure.
The book that Aunt Peggy had given me was essentially a journal, maybe even a diary, whatever you want to call it, it held the detail of things that had gone wrong, things that had gone right, and the one that she had given me wasn’t the only one. In the same box with my initials were more journals, just like the rest and there were almost 3 exclusively for Project Rebirth…
I don’t know how long I went through the boxes labeled ‘Project Rebirth’. The story of Steve Rogers, of Captain America was regular bedtime story for me.
My mother once said I should stop asking him for Captain America stories and at 5 years old it was the first time I had really seen my father get defensive about anything.
“If she wants to hear those stories then I will tell them, Maria,” he said.
But reading how long he searched the frigid waters, hoping for a signal to find his friend, I now know the look I saw behind my father’s eyes...sadness and grief.
For a time I stepped away from my file room, my workload getting heavy, ideas that my father thought of being brought to life but in a new and better way. As my projects expanded, my need for space grew, and to everyone’s surprise I now took up 5 floors in just five years, and with lab assistants and AIDA to help with the calls, I got a chance to finally step back into my file room.
I had barely touched the files over the last 5 years, but what I can say is that there was one box that I was avoiding. It was a wooden box, nothing intricate about it. It almost reminded me of my mother’s old jewelry box, a gift passed down in her family. But this box was odd. There was no mention of it in any of the journals, no note, nothing.
So I had to take my life into my own hands at that point and I carefully opened the box. When I opened it I gave a sigh of relief. Carefully cradled in the box was a vile of purple liquid, and of course, now that I have gotten past a close call with a heart attack, I found a note...taped to the inside of the lid.
“Out of the many things that I have come across in my time...blah blah blah speech about his accolades...while Dr. Abraham Erskine created the Super Soldier Serum for Project Rebirth, it was not the only serum that he created. The Terrigenesis Serum was created to react with the body’s own DNA and essentially bring forward any supernatural abilities that might be laying dormant within someone, should they have them.”
I stopped and ran my hand through my hair. They didn’t know when to stop, did they?
“Should you find this one of 2 things can be done; hide it or take it to SHIELD and only if they know what A21K609S means, are they to know about what you have….I suggest you start with the top.”
For the longest time I hid the Terrigenesis Serum, we didn’t need someone with superpowers who might be unhinged, running around.
But after I had started consulting with SHIELD for a few years and when Tony got kidnapped...my emotions got the better of me.
And I went to Fury…
He knew what the code meant, he questioned me over and over again telling me that there was a chance that I could die.
“IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMEONE DO IT I'LL DO IT MYSELF!” I remember screeching at him.
I was taken to a lab and strapped down on the bed, since no one knew how the serum would affect me, on the screen of one of the computers I saw that Fury had pulled up the old file that SHIELD had on the serum.
I remember seeing Natasha up in the observation room looking down at me. By then we had become friends and by the look on her face I could tell that she did not approve of this.
But it was too late now…
The purple liquid traveled into my body, making me feel like every vein and artery was being shredded as it circulated. I couldn’t even tell if I was screaming, I knew my mouth was open but I could hear nothing.
I felt hands on me as the lab assistants and doctor who had been permitted in the room tried to push me back flat on the bed but there was this loud bass like noise and the hands were gone and everything went black.
When I woke up a few hours later the only person in the room with me was Fury.
“What’s this thing around me?” I asked looking purple, glowing substance around me.
Fury took a pen and threw it at the substance and it bounced back. “Some sort of shield that surrounded you after the serum took hold in your body...I suggest you try and figure out how to make it go away.”
Closing my eyes I tried to tell the shield that I was fine, I was safe, and that it could come back to me. It took a good hour but I figured it out and finally Fury was able to undo the straps that were holding me down to the table.
“So what? I’m some sort of human shield?” I questioned as a lab assistant came into the room and cautiously lifted the head of the bed up so that I could sit up. I finally got a good look at the room; equipment was knock over and strewn around the room, there was broken glass in the observation windows, and there were cracks in the walls. I gulped upon seeing this. “Did I do all this?”
“Vibration manipulation,” he replied, “Congrats Doc, you created a small earthquake right here in this lab. Not to mention you scared the hell out of the SHIELD science division when they got blasted back from that force field. But either way...looks like we have some work to do.”

Coffee or tea? What are you ordering?
Coffee! Iced Americano or a Cafe au Lait.
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose? Time stop
If you could visit a historical era, which would you choose?
Golden age of Hollywood, but purely as an invisible visitor
If you could restart your life, knowing what you do now, would you?
Not at all.
Would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses or one horse-sized chicken?
100 chicken sized horses. Chickens have sharp bits!
If you were a trope in a teen high school movie, what would you have been?
Like a stock character? Cool loser, not so socially awkward you can’t hang out with her, but also just weird enough that you still might not want to.
Do you believe in aliens/supernatural creatures?
Sure!
Fun fact about yourself that not everyone would know?
I can clap with one hand!
When did you post your first piece?
January 7, 2019, 6:38 PM
Why did you decide to write for Tumblr?
Tumblr was my home for years shortly after it began, and I left it before I graduated college. When I got back into kpop, I never knew there was a fic community for it on tumblr! I wanted the sense of community that I missed from first being here.
Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why?
I write primarily plotty smut in all sorts of combinations except for crack.
Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?
I write X Reader plots! Sometimes my pieces include an element of ships or OC’s.
What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?
I love writing thrillers and mysteries lately, but my bread and butter is developing relationships. I enjoy college au’s and other adult life scenarios, but occasionally I really enjoy finding a perspective I don’t see very often and expanding on that.
What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?
I love friends to lovers, and adore rivals to lovers. I like power dynamics and developing relationships. I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I really do not like fate or destiny or soulmates. I like characters that stumble upon a new purpose, or feel that they’re supposed to be with someone, but I feel like destiny is just too convenient.
Who is your favorite person to write about?
I do love writing Han Jisung with all my heart. I love him so much and he has such an amazing personality to work with. I also love writing my Reader inserts.
What inspires you to write?
I love the satisfaction in crafting a plot and seeing it come together. Making a vision into a tangible piece that you can share and revisit is special, no matter how big or small.
What is your writing process like?
Typically, I mull over a concept for a couple days before I begin a bullet point outline in google docs. The draft gets added and worked on within the outline until the draft is finalized, and then I finally remove the outline framework. This is typically where the title is made with a header image before I proofread. I read one more time while formatting on tumblr itself and then post!
What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?
I take a break, walk away, and come back. If it’s still not there, I write something either related in theme or character or something entirely different so I can get myself worked out. This sort of move has birthed a few side projects that turned into personal favorites.
What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?
My favorite completed work is my series Standby. It began shortly after accepting the fact that I had a new bias that I wasn’t expecting and those feelings seeped into the plot and helped it grow. I never expected to get so invested in this little love story. My most successful work is my series Righteous, which my readers know I have a difficult relationship with. I understand why it has fans, but I still struggle with feeling like I could’ve done so many things better.
What do you think makes a good story?
I can’t help but feel like it’s good characters and a good plot together, as cheesy as that sounds. Everything needs a satisfying conclusion and good characters help that to be even more satisfying, even if that conclusion is sex.
What do you hope your readers take away from your work?
I hope the plot comes through, as hokey as it sounds. Some of my favorite comments are from readers who weren’t expecting to be so invested from just reading the tags and description. If I can make someone care for a character and make them want a certain ending for them, then I’m happy.
Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?
Absolutely! I came from writing original works and the freedom is almost overwhelming at times. You can literally write whatever you want. The key to good fanfiction, though, is understanding the character you’re using and how you are using them in the plot. If the only thing the character has in common with the source is their name and appearance, then what is the point?
Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?
I have absolutely considered it, but only for Prowl so far.
How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?
Feedback means the world to me. Whether it’s incoherent praise, or a full length review, or even just a friendly reminder of a tag I missed, everything is valuable and helps keep me moving. Things can take exponentially longer when I’m solely writing for myself, which is easy to feel like with no feedback or engagement.
What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?
Connecting with other writers has been beneficial and satisfactory in multiple ways. Networks and making friends with other writers has helped me improve and share my work. I really don’t think I’d be nearly as successful without these other writers. The community aspect of our craft makes it stronger.
Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?
Definitely! And more lines get drawn the deeper you get. When tumblr first started and fanfiction(dot)net was still the reigning empire, fanfiction was purely taboo to the mainstream. Every writer was Tara Gilesbie and every work was My Immortal. Let’s be entirely real, EL James becoming a household name changed everything. But the medium is under more scrutiny than other fan work, because talent is less surface than in visual mediums. Every author is assumed to be amateur until proven otherwise, and this stigma thankfully lessens the more a reader becomes familiar with the medium. It’s that introductory phase that really affects things.
Do you think art can be a medium for change?
Absolutely! Even on a small level. In the smut side of the medium, writers are always using their platform to display ideal examples of consent, communication, and how identity is discussed and expressed. Cheesy, sure, but be the change you want to see in the world.
Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?
I always feel as though I’m writing for others, ever since I first got feedback that my work personally affected someone. I write for them, even if I don’t know who they are. They’re just as important to the story as I am when writing it. I do write for myself, because why else would I? I cook for myself, but food is better when shared. I write for myself, but it’s always better when shared.
Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?
Considering the ethics of the specific nuances of my writing (real people x reader smut) it’s hard not to feel that way, to be honest.
Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?
On a need to know basis! My fiancé knows and is incredibly supportive. My friends know (except for friends on Tumblr), and they’re completely supportive or simply don’t mind and pay it no attention. My mom knows, but she doesn’t know I write smut specifically. No one tell my mom lmao.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?
I want them to know I love and appreciate all of them. I do want to know more about what they like or don’t like, but I understand why it’s difficult to engage sometimes.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?
Make a pen name and create a new you. Does anyone actually think my name is Belmont? When you have your new you, get to networking. Socializing is hard, but making friends who support you and want to share your work is important. Start out with requests and hate and doubt your work like everyone else. That fear is normal, that doubt is normal, but it’s how you use that fear and doubt that matters. Use it as fuel to write, and prove it to yourself.
Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?
Sure! There are some users on here who have too much time on their hands and not enough hobbies so they use their precious time on this earth to harass writers. That toxicity makes it tempting to regret this whole venture.
Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?
I keep saying this and I will keep saying this, but I only started this blog after feeling encouraged by Bea @sluttyten to do so. She’s been such an incredible, dear friend, just like Lexi @hellapainyo who came as soon as I started. Moe @wildernessuntothemselves helped me realize some of my strengths and embrace my writing. Rae @starxblossom is truly my younger sister on the other side of the planet, and I love geeking out or plotting together. Yue @yueliangs-wonderland is such an inspiration and dear friend of mine. I can’t imagine being here and enjoying myself like I do without her. There’s so many more, and I love all of them.

VLD S8E12: The Zenith
Season 8 Episode 12: The Zenith
Transcript by @dragonofyang
Summary: With the combined power of the Sincline mech and the black Altean mech, Honerva pierces through realities to find her perfect universe, forcing the Atlas crew and the Paladins of Voltron to chase her across realities as they slowly become unraveled.
[Google Doc]
Keith: Paladins, report status.
Lance: I’m offline!
Pidge: Me, too.
Hunk: Uh, guys, are you seeing this?
Lance: What are those things doing?
Pidge: That’s how she’s getting in.
Keith: What do you mean?
Pidge: Honerva! She’s using those wings to pierce the barriers between realities. It’s her entry point!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Shiro: Allura, come in. Are you there?
Allura: Shiro, I read you. Honerva combined her beast with Lotor’s Sincline. She has the comet ore, and with it, the ability to traverse realities. I’m headed to my lion now.
[Cut to Hunk, Coran, Romelle, and Tavo inside Yellow Lion.]
Coran: Our universe is collapsing, just like the day we lost the Castle of Lions. Those wings are causing the very fabric of our reality to disintegrate!
Hunk: Then we’re gonna stop that thing before it breaks through. Yellow Lion’s back!
Keith: Hunk, get your passengers back to the Atlas.
Hunk: Copy that.
[Cut to Merla as she awakens.]
Honerva: My loyal warriors, Merla proved disloyal. She turned her back on our mission and the future of Altea. But you two have remained by my side, and you will know true victory. The glory of Altea will be yours.
[Cut to the Lions as they power on.]
Pidge: Those robeasts are headed our way! Just in time! My lion’s responding!
Lance: Mine, too.
Keith: Allura, do you copy? Can you get to your lion? We’re gonna need Voltron.
Allura: Hold on. I’m coming!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Shiro: In the meantime, the Atlas has you covered.
Coran: Wait, what about the collapsing universe? We need to stop it!
Keith: Coran, we’re counting on you to figure something out.
Coran: What? Me? I don’t know anything about that?
Keith: Then find someone who does! We need to stop that weapon before it breaks through realities. Paladins, do everything you can to keep the robeasts distracted. Let’s give the Atlas a shot.
Shiro: Atlas crew, prepare for transformation sequence.
[Cut to the lions as they fight the mechs.]
Lance: Nice shot!
Keith: Guys, I’m going in to stop Honerva!
Honerva: Still.
Keith: No!
[Cut to Coran, Romelle, Tavo, and other Atlas crew as they float through a hallway.]
Iverson: MFE pilots, report to your hangars! Stand by for launch!
Coran: I have an idea how we can stop the collapsing of space-time. I’ll grab Slav and Sam. You two get the Alteans and meet me back here in ten doboshes!
[Cut back to the lions as they fight the mechs.]
Hunk: Now, Pidge!
Keith: Fall back!
Shiro: Allura, now’s your chance!
Keith: We can’t get past them, so we’re gonna have to defeat them. Paladins, on me! Form Voltron!
Allura: Remember, those weapons can siphon our energy, so we need to avoid a direct hit.
Keith: Pidge, arm cannon!
Pidge: It’s the Altean!
Lance: Why is she helping us?
Merla: Please, do not harm them. They were misguided, much like I was. We all were!
Keith: Pilot capsule still intact.
Honerva: No!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Coran: We need an escort to Honerva’s pyramid structure!
Shiro: What? Right now?
Slav: Yes! The sooner we go, the higher the probability that we can use the Alteans to stop the impending space-time rupture!
Coran: It’s actually similar to how we stopped the rupture when Voltron entered the quintessence field.
Sam: Only this time, that superstructure will be the energy amplification conductor and the Alteans will be the energy source.
Coran: Though, we’re still working out how to transfer their quintessence into the structure, but, you know, some things are just gonna have to be figured out on the fly!
Shiro: Get a team in place.
[Cut to the Altean mech and Voltron fighting.]
Keith: Final robeast out of commission! Hunk, form cannon!
Hunk: I’ve got lock!
Allura: Honerva has pierced realities.
Keith: Come on, we’re going in! Atlas, stay on me!
Coran: I’m afraid the Atlas can’t do that.
Pidge: Coran’s right. It isn’t made out of the same ore. It can’t traverse realities.
Keith: Then we’re going in alone.
Slav: Actually, that appears to be problematic as well.
Keith: What?
Slav: The statistical likelihood of Voltron succeeding against Honerva in a one-on-one battle is well below improbable.
Allura: We’ll have a better chance than if we don’t try at all. Balmera.
Lance: What’s going on?
Coran: It’s a convuldrum, the converging of Balmeras.
Lance: What called them here?
Hunk: Shay.
Coran: Quiznak!
Shiro: What just…?
Hunk: Whoa!
Lance: No way!
Pidge: This is crazy!
Allura: I don’t know what just happened, but now we have a chance.
Keith: Let’s stop Honerva.
Shiro: Coran, we’ll need you to secure the area and find a way to suppress this rift.
Coran: Yes, sir!
[Cut to Coran in the rebel ship.]
Coran: Wait! I know how to get the Altean energy into the structure. Drop Sam, Slav, and I off at the pyramid. Then I’ll need you to take the Alteans to the Balmera.
Slav: You’re wearing the right socks today, aren’t you?
[Cut to the Atlas/Voltron fusion mech as it passes through the rift.]
Allura: Is this…
Pidge: It’s an alternate Altea.
Lance: And it looks like this reality is crumbling, just like ours!
Hunk: How come it’s disintegrating so quickly?
Pidge: Those wings created a sort of cosmic tunnel in one blast. The rift must lead directly to the reality Honerva’s been looking for.
Shiro: And any reality that those wings bored through is falling apart.
Keith: We have to keep going!
[Scene change to Coran, Slav, Sam, and the Alteans entering the pyramid.]
Coran: We must hurry!
Sam: Okay, I think this is it. Powering the amplification module.
Slav: I’ll redirect the target to the rift. If we hit it with enough energy, it should seal.
Coran: Are the Alteans in place?
N-7: They are set.
[Scene change to an alternate Altea.]
Allura: All these innocent lives. There’s no limit to what Honerva will do or the lives she’ll tear apart to get what she wants.
Shiro: That’s why we need to stop her.
Allura: Even then, I fear she’s started a chain reaction that can never be undone.
[Cut to the Balmera convuldrum.]
Coran: We’re in place! Balmeras, channel your energy into the pyramid! Yes, it’s working! The channeled energy from the Balmeras seems to be holding the rift together.
[Cut to the Atlas-Voltron mech.]
Keith: Countermeasures! Form sword!
[Cut to the bridge of Oriande.]
Sam: Our current power level isn’t enough to maintain the rift!
Coran: Then we’ll hold it as long as we can! Every tick gives Voltron a chance.
Krolia: Coran, it’s Krolia. What can we do to help?
Coran: Krolia! Kolivan! Thank the ancients you’re here! We need all the energy we can harness to prevent the rift from expanding further.
Krolia: Copy that! Galra fleet, adjust the frequency of your ion cannons and aim at the pyramid structure.
Coran: Come on, please. A little longer! Voltron needs us.
[Cut to Honerva in her mech.]
Honerva: This is where it ends for you!
Lance: We need to get up.
Hunk: I can’t move.
Shiro: The ship’s not responding.
Allura: Honerva, she’s absorbed all our strength.
Pidge: This reality… it’s over.
Keith: No. We’ve always done the impossible. Our strength is our bond. Our power comes from each other. As long as we’re a team, we stand a chance. Sendak. Zarkon. Lotor. We’ve saved our universe countless times, but now all the realities are in need of Voltron. So this isn’t the end just yet. We need to get back up and stop Honerva once and for all! Fire boosters!
[Cut to the bridge of Oriande.]
Sam: The Galra fleet have depleted all their energy, and the Balmerans and Alteans are at their limit. At this rate, we won’t be able to contain the rift!
[Cut back to the Atlas-Voltron mech as it approaches the shrinking rift, then cut to Honerva’s mech emerging into deep space as she approaches Daibazaal.]
Zarkon: You’re getting faster.
Sendak: Not half as fast as the emperor.
Zarkon: Stay back! What’s your name?
Honerva: You don’t recognize me? I’ve searched beyond the stars to be here.
Zarkon: I said stay back!
Honerva: To be with you. And to be with my son.
Zarkon: Honerva. Is it truly you?
Honerva: It is.
Zarkon: I never thought I’d see you again.
Honerva: I never doubted. My memory of you and Lotor kept me alive. Tell me, where is my child?
[Scene change to the bridge of a Galra ship headed for Altea.]
Zarkon: I vowed to raise our son as you would have wanted. He excels in his Altean studies. Lotor has his mother’s intellect.
Alfor: Empress Honerva… It is an honor to see you once more. All of Altea will cherish this day.
Allura: Please, come with me. Your son awaits your presence.
Honerva: My son.
Lotor: Mother?
Honerva: Please, my child, come to me.
Lotor: No.
Zarkon: Lotor, it’s okay. It’s your mother. She has returned.
Lotor: She’s not my mother!
Honerva: I may appear changed, but I assure you, my love for you is that of a mother for her child. Come to me.
Lotor: She is not my mother.
Zarkon: Don’t speak like that.
Honerva: Please.
Lotor: No. My mother is dead and you cannot replace her!
Zarkon: Perhaps this is overwhelming for the boy. Please, if we had some time…
Honerva: Time? You speak to me of time? I’ve spent lifetimes trying to get back. Countless worlds have fallen in the wake of my efforts to return to you. And this is how you welcome me? My own child, my own husband question who I am? I have sacrificed more than you will ever know!
Zarkon: What is that?
Honerva: No, it cannot be!
Zarkon: You brought this abomination upon us? You are not the empress. You are not my wife! Guards! Guards!
Honerva: If there is no place in this universe for me, then there will be no universe at all.
End.

hey betts! can you give us any insight into your new drafting process (the one you mentioned on Twitter?) those results have me green with envy
sure! this is going to be a fairly quick run-down because i have to start planning my classes here soon.
(anon is referring to this tweet)
required reading
shitty first drafts by anne lamott, which is where i modified my process from
on fear by mary ruefle, which talks about procedure and i may have taken the wrong meaning from the essay but basically, my entire process is about mitigating the fear innate in writers’ block by having a procedure in place to counteract it
tools
google docs (or some other word processor)
google calendar (or some other calendar app; i wrote about my scheduling process here)
toggl (or some other timekeeping app)
airtable (i’ve also used trello, but i like airtable better. ps big thanks to @electricalice for introducing me to it! it’s a lifesaver)
pre-writing
so first you need an idea. whenever i have an idea, even if there’s 0 chance i’ll end up writing it, i add it to my airtable, plus any notes or details i come up with. i also copy and paste any text convos i have about the fic, like if i headcanon something with a friend. (i used trello for this until recently; it works just fine and is a bit easier to use. airtable also has a kanban function though, along with other formats, so it’s a bit more flexible)
airtable is a project management spreadsheet software. i’m sure there are others out there, but i started fiddling with this one and haven’t looked back. it takes a little while to figure out, and you might have to google some things you want it to do that aren’t terribly intuitive.
my fanfic table, filtered by ideas, looks like this:
Tumblr media
(you may have to expand to look at it, also note that the pretty colors are a Pro feature of the app and i’m still on my trial)
the idea here is to have space to store my ideas. let’s say i hang out with a friend and we started talking about fic, and i bring up i have an idea for a endgame coda but i’m not really sure where to take it, so we start headcanoning back and forth, and now i have a few scene ideas. i made my endgame coda card already right after i saw the movie, so all i have to do is open the app and jot down the main points of my headcanoning. now when i go home and start working on it, i can easily pull up our brainstorming session.
narrative outlining
i have never been an outliner or a planner. i’ve always been a pantser. i have a premise and i run with it, and that worked for me for a long time. pantsing has a lot of benefits: your story always surprises you! you can get really immersed! it’s certainly the more whimsical writing process.
but what i found was that i would often write myself into a corner, or lose steam once i realized what should have been a 10k fic was actually going to be 80k and i didn’t like the story enough to sit with it for 80k. i also spent a long time thinking about future scenes and writing them down but losing them later, or forgetting about them.
so i started doing narrative outlines, which are just me going “and then THIS happens” repeatedly and sometimes inputting “and something causes this other thing” until eventually i have the whole story written out. the goal of the narrative outline is pacing. all you have to do is get the major beats down. it doesn’t have to be good. no one is going to see it (unless you want them to).
ideally my paragraphs will be all around the same size. those are going to become my chapters. if a paragraph is significantly shorter than another, it’s likely that i don’t have that beat fleshed out yet. i call chapters “beats” because to me, each one should have its own arc, and end at a high or low point in the story.
in my fanfic airtable, i have a table for chapters. all chapters of all multi-chap wips go here, and i can filter out ones that are complete later.
Tumblr media
the beauty of the chapters table is that it can connect to your ideas/wip table and vice versa so everything is kept together. i had 7 paragraphs in my narrative outline so i made 7 rows.
notice i also gave myself a due date. i don’t really like due dates, but i’m trying them on for now and seeing how it goes.
i copy and paste the chapter paragraph as i go into the “summary” field. then, as scene or line ideas come to me, i toss them in the “scenes/lines” field. I was in a car for 8 hours and coming up with scenes all over the place, and i needed somewhere to put them. if i didn’t know where they went, i put them in my idea table instead, and filed them later.
you’re still idea-ing, you’re still outlining, but now it’s time to write.
gauge
i make a folder for the fic and open a doc and label it ch1. then i copy and paste the narrative outline paragraph into the doc and separate it out by scene with an asterisk between each one.
here’s where the timesheet and calendar come in. i have a reminder on my calendar to schedule the following day, and on that schedule i put my writing time. when it’s time to write, i start the toggl clock. at the end of each week, i put in my time in my personal timesheet.
the first chapter or 10% of anything i’m writing tends to take longer than the rest, because i need to get into the story, and choose the voice and tense and tone and things like that. so i take however long i take to make what i call a gauge. in knitting, a gauge is the thing that determines the size of the piece. if you’re knitting a sweater, you knit a little square to make sure the sweater comes out the size you need it to be.
so i write the gauge and it takes however long it takes. sometimes i rewrite it a few times, test out POVs and tenses and description and whatever else. what i like best, what seems the most sustainable, is what i choose. i wrote 3 chapters of a novel in present tense and a childish tone before i decided it needed to be first person reflective and i rewrote the whole thing.
don’t get frustrated with yourself if your gauge doesn’t work. that’s what the gauge is for. you’ll know you’ve chosen the right voice if, by the end of your gauge, you’re really eager to keep writing.
down draft & punch list
so now you’ve got a pretty gauge to follow, and the rest is going to be an absolute mess. the down draft is exactly what it sounds like – you get the idea down. i personally believe you need to tell the story to yourself a few times in order to get good at telling the story, or to know what the story is. you’ve told yourself the story once in outline form, and now you’re just breaking out the scenes a little bit more.
the key to the down draft is not to self-edit. i’m not talking about going back and tweaking typos and shit, that’s fine, whatever. i mean doubting yourself structurally. like, oh shit, you forgot to mention that they took off their clothes and now they’re naked.
here’s where the punch list comes in, which is yet another table. (i’ve also used google tasks for this, because it pops up in a side window. either works!) a punch list is a to do list. instead of fixing things, you put the thing on your punch list and save it for the next draft. a down draft is all about speed and figuring out where all the pieces go. revising during the down draft only slows you down.
the punch list is my solution to the contrived advice “you can fix it later!” to which i always say, “BUT I WON’T REMEMBER TO FIX IT LATER I HAVE TO FIX IT NOW.” as soon as you think of something to fix, put it on the table. it may seem like it’s faster to fix things as you go. it is not. i promise.
Tumblr media
this is all my punch list notes for all fics, which i then connect to my other tables/filter as needed. put everything in your punch list. it’s better to make a punch list item that you don’t end up implementing than forget an important revision note. if you end up putting the project down for a while, you’ll want to know what you’d intended.
up draft
in the up draft, you clean up the down draft. here, i take each document in a new window, put it on the right half of the screen, and open a new document to put on the left.
Tumblr media
then i rewrite the whole fucking thing. i pull up my punch list and fix all the things as i go, to the best of my ability. here’s where the writing gets pretty and fleshed out. but still, it doesn’t need to be perfect. you have more revisions to go. it’s important to remember during this entire process that everything can be changed. nothing is permanent. you’re not writing in stone. there’s no cost to words or documents, so you can revise as much as you want.
it’s also worth noting that the longer your project, the more sectioned out your story will be. sometimes you’ll have a chapter on a down draft and another chapter on an up draft. sometimes you might down draft out of order just to make sure you get your ideas down when they occur. whatever works for you. the idea is that you’re constantly building spaces in which to put your stuff that can be easily found and implemented. the creative process is messy, so you need to make clean spaces to put the mess in.
while you’re up-drafting, you’re still idea-ing and outlining and down-drafting and punch-listing. maybe you don’t have the answer to a problem yet, but you might later. decision fatigue in the creative process is real. this process is designed to mitigate decision fatigue. there are only ever so many decisions to make at once when you expand out your process like this one.
and sometimes, sadly, the solution to a problem never happen. that’s okay. what you write might be flawed. in fact it should be flawed. flaws are what make things beautiful. all you can do is the best you can do, and if it’s not good enough for your tastes, you can learn from your mistakes and try again.
beta
sometimes i have a beta and sometimes i don’t, depending on how confident i am about the work. when i have a beta, this is the stage i send them my stuff. sometimes i tell them specific things i’m looking for, like just line edits, or cheerleading, or whatever else. sometimes i have questions about whether or not something is working. i tell them what date i intend to post and when i would like edits to be done by, and if they don’t get around to it, that’s okay. i can just hustle a little harder in the next revision.
dental draft
here’s where, per anne lamott, you check every tooth. i implement my remaining punch list items and beta feedback, fix pacing issues, typos, unclear sentences, etc. sometimes i do the side-by-side window thing for chapters that are particularly messy, and sometimes i just fix the existing doc. by now your story should be looking pretty good, or the best you can get it.
final read-through :) or additional revisions :(
for fic, this is the point where i hit it and hope. i copy and paste the chapter/fic into an ao3 shell with the tags and summary i’ve kept in my airtable, and do a final readthrough. i don’t do it in the original doc because seeing it in a new font and format usually makes me notice things i’d missed before.
for ofic, here’s where you might need more feedback and more revising if your piece isn’t working yet, or if you’ve submitted it a couple dozen places and haven’t had it accepted. while this process is thorough, sometimes pieces still aren’t working for whatever reason. don’t throw anything away, though. keep it, file it, log it in your airtable, and maybe one day while you’re driving an idea will pop into your head and you’ll be able to come back to it.
this was a really really quick run-down of an extremely long and complicated process, but it works for me! i probably wouldn’t have been able to do this even a year ago. it’s taken me a long time to cultivate this kind of discipline, and i’m still a work in progress. so if it’s too much or too structured for you, that’s fine. maybe you can take one or two things for yourself and try them out.
