This is probably one of my favorite Titan Luz art Dana posted today on Instagram. Luz look so amazing with the braids!

I love this artwork so much that I kinda sorta really want to try my hands at making a redraw of it.

It's been a minute and a half since I made a redraw from a non-owl house/screenshot from an episode. So I'm a little nervous about screwing it up...but I want to try.

If I do redraw it, it will be sometime this weekend or during my spring break next week.

Read: Kindred by Octavia Butler, adapted by Damian Duffy

This graphic novel was adapted from the book Kindred by Octavia Butler. This story more recently has also been made into a TV series for Hulu. In this twisted tale, Dana is living in the 1970s when she begins having dizzy spells shake her to the core. These dizzy spells lead to her waking up in the 1800s helping a boy who she refers to as “Rufe.” While Dana is not sure what brings these spells on at first, she has an even harder time time trying to figure out how to make it stop.

Ms. Davis: A Graphic Biography by Sybille Titeux de la Croix, art by Amazing Ameziane

The story of Angela Davis is filled with resistance and unwillingness to accept unfair treatment and judgment. She is infamous for being a part of the FBI's Most Wanted List in 1971 due to an incident that occurred where she was accused as the main conspirator.

Reading her story as a graphic novel does not take away the seriousness of her story. I appreciate that the book provides explanations of key events; that is helpful if you are only hearing about some of the events for the first time, as I was. This book was a random find but it sent me down a research hole that made me want to learn more, and that is what any good book does.

Reading: Miles Davis and the Search for the Sound by Dave Chisholm

Miles Davis was an extremely talented musician. He thought outside of the box when it came to his music, so it is fitting that this graphic novel tells his story in an eclectic way.

The story begins as Miles has just gotten a piece of life-altering news in 1982. From there, he reminisces and begins telling his origin story. The artwork and illustrations of this graphic novel are beautiful. The colors truly jump off the page and speak to you, as clear as the words do. The funky art and the insight of Miles' fascinating yet tumultuous life make this book a true learning experience that explores the cool world of jazz and many of its legends.

To-Read: Toussaint Louverture: The Story of the Only Successful Slave Revolt in History by C.L.R. James, adapted by Nic Watts and Sakina Karimjee

This graphic novel details the Haitian Revolution led by Toussaint Louverture. This graphic novel is based on the play by C.L.R. James, produced in 1936. If you love history, and revolutions, this graphic novel my pique your interest.

Maybe I’m crazy but. The way the story boarders specifically waited until after ftf to post their h/l doodles makes me think of someone bragging about something only after it’s all been said and done, because they know someone would try to stop them otherwise, even if it’s too late for that. And why would they wait until after that episode specifically? It didn’t make the ship canon. So why not post their doodles after asias, or Labyrinth Runners, or just during the post s2 hiatus?

YEAH, like??? The stroyboarders are kinda weirdos imo already but. Acting like they couldn't post their own personal fanart sketches because it would give away that the ship becomes "canon" even though the scenes weren't inherently romantic, involved gus too, and clearly didnt make h//l canon with dana having deleted the artwork she retweeted that said it did. also with the finale having NOTHING implying h//l could POSSIBLY be canon other than the end credit scene. which still doesnt make it canon,, Like seriously. Why would you not post your sketches when you said, after their big episodes or during the hiatus to "get people hyped" for possible h//l (for the weirdos that actually like the ship that is). Because what it seems like to me is that they all posted them immediately after no longer being employed as crew on the show because the show was finished actually being made and was just waiting to be released. sooooo that's my theory at least. I'm not sure when the actual last day of TOH creation was, so I can't say for sure, but it definitely reads like "what are they gonna do? fire me?"

The Owl House Changed Me

About two years ago, I opened Disney plus and started the first episode of a show I'd been recommended several times over the past few months; The Owl House.  I immediately fell in love with the world of Luz Noceda and her friends. The detailed world building, intricate characters, and the beautiful message of hope this show brought forward was inspiring. And best of all, I saw characters I could relate to on screen. People with complicated pasts who were trying to heal, people who didn't fit in, people who pushed through and smiled through their pain. 

The growth of Lumity also helped me embrace myself. Luz was happily bi and out- why couldn't I be?

The Owl House inspired my artwork.  It helped put me down the path i am now, and has helped me meet incredible people. 

When I first heard about the cancelation, I was crushed. But in the year and a half since, I've watched the show's crew push through and still create one of the most amazing stories I've ever seen. 

So Dana Terrace, thank you. Thank you for creating a masterpiece. And to eve4y single person who made the Owl House happen, thank you. For everything.

Imma just post this cause I need to get this off my chest lmao

But I’m sure the fandom is well aware of the Collector Luz theory, and how the fandom became torn with either wanting it to happen or not wanting it to happen

and others have made different theories about how it may not even be Luz who gets possessed by the Collector and speculates that it may be Hunter, or Amity, or even Belos

HOWEVER,

I truly think it actually will be Luz who gets either possessed or makes a deal with the collector and here’s why. It’s literally the tiniest detail, but I’ve been noticing it in almost every artwork Dana has posted on Twitter.

So, we know that this what the Collector looks like and Dana herself drew that during a stream, and here’s the tiny detail that makes me believe that Luz is going to be possessed/ makes a deal w/ the Collector

okay okay i'm gonna scour through the season 3 toh poster because GODDAMN okay

SO! BELOS GOOP IS BACK!! which a lot of us predicted. also interestingly, hunter is looking up in its direction (likely a deliberate choice, as no other character is glancing upward). which could possibly nod to deeper involvement or awareness.

hunter also has a new hairstyle (rip floppy strand you will be missed)! could be something to do with exploring self-expression to differentiate him from caleb, or even to ease suspicion of his resemblance to the town statue.

and camilla has ditched the nurse scrubs for something more combat-appropriate

PALISMEN ARE BACK!! i don't think we actually got confirmation that they made it through the portal, so it's nice to know at least flapjack and ghost will return.

interestingly, flapjack is perched on a grave as opposed to being with hunter... perhaps it's connected to the wittebane brothers? but that's just speculation

luz's outfit is also pretty similar to dana's beta design! similar red beanie and striped shirt under a jacket (the pants also introduce some green, unless that's just lighting). interestingly, there's a bat and bird skull in both artworks. could just be easter eggs, or a nod that season 3 will be headed in a darker direction.

there's the bird skull i mentioned (or, i assume it's a bird? a little hard to tell). not sure what that could indicate other than a connection to the clawthornes, or maybe flapjack/the wittebanes. that's, again, a reach, though.

the outline on the left foreground grave looks a little similar to the golden guard sigil, but i doubt that's it. too shadowed to tell, anyway.

and the general arrangement of the graves in this artwork does remind me of the golden guard masks in belos's mindscape - arranged haphazardly and half buried on dirt around the roots of a tree. could be coincidence, or a parallel. not too sure.

luz's torch creates a shine that looks quite similar to the light glyph from the season 1 poster.

other than all that, some misc things:

nobody is hiding their ears - at least in their core designs. not sure what that means for whether or not they'll be hiding their witchiness.

obviously everyone has a new design, but i can't find anything particularly of note in anyone's other than the nocedas'. i do particularly like willow's, though.

judging by the tree, it's autumn. not sure if that indicates anything except setting. though, autumn in the US (or, fall, if you will) does coincide with halloween. and the season also premiers in october. spooky.

that's about all i've found for the moment! if anyone spots something else, feel free to add on. I'M SO EXCITED!!

I'm sorry if someone has asked this already but I've been curious- since I've been thinking about making TOH merch myself one day. But is there a prerequisite to selling TOH fan made merchandises? Do I need to get perms with Dana or something haha.

Nintendo too for Pokemon maybe? But its ok if you're not sure

so with fanmade merchandise, it is (as implied...) fan made!

quick and extremely informal copyright lesson (because i've had to learn abt this in my classes): technically, fan art IS a copyright violation because you don't own the original IP... HOWEVER, most of the time companies will allow it because it actually drives up interaction with their properties! sometimes they can be strict-- Nintendo is VERY stingy with fanart being sold, however many artists are able to sell them as long as listings are titled without directly saying "pokemon" in the name.

it is very complicated and artists are given a good amount of leeway-- you wouldn't see so many etsy listings and fanart in artist alleys if it wasn't like that. my best recommendation is to see how other people word their listings and research selling first to get an understanding of the market and everything!

aren't you at all concerned Disney will sue you for making unlicensed merchandise based off their intellectual property ?

Disney are famously uncaring when it comes to their TVA franchises. Searching Amphibia, Owl House or Gravity Falls on Etsy all reveals far more designs than mine, most of which are way more popular.

Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace - who, bearing in mind, aren't rights holders - both recently collaborated with an unlicensed fan merch creator that summated to thousands of dollars of revenue, and Redbubble continues to be lucrative for hundreds of artists.

Put simply, Disney don't care. These franchises don't mean anything to the mouse, and their merchandise is usually poor at best. Look at the amount of artists making Gravity Falls plushies, keychains - hell, look at the unlicensed VHS set being produced, or the unlicensed stuff being made by The Mystery Shack. Even Lootcrate has done the sort of thing we do.

It's a key part of fan culture. To be concerned about it would mean being concerned about a huge population of artists doing much the same.

It's certainly an interesting question - but I'd say considering I make all of my own artwork, don't use any directly ripped logos nor claim to be official merch like thousands of Chinese dropshippers, I'm a pretty low priority.

Balanced Blessings on this Last Quarter Moon

Allow me to speak on balance for Mental Health May (is it? yes?)

CONTENT WARNING: verbal/visual — self-harm — recovery

I'm ramping up to "Promoter Mode" in which I make an effort to let people know about some truly excellent projects.

I've amassed a solid collection of artwork and it will be released! It's only a matter of time, and especially, balance!

On the one hand I'm so fearful of failing. I'm not looking forward to having to promote myself more intensely. Furthermore I am aware of physical tension I'm manifesting with worry!

and the other?

In my other hand I hold determination to respect my boundaries. I plan on enjoying my time completely during Pride Month. I will wear beautiful things and have my hair just so. I can manifest peace of mind, with practice! So even if this Kickstarter fails, I will have enjoyed myself and made a conscious political choice to honor my Beloved Community.

Last Quarter Moons are pretty cool, right?

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities begins its cultural programs and seasons with the opening of the Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, which is being held this time in its forty-eighth edition. In this cultural and creative event, the creators of plastic art in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the diversity of art schools come to contribute to presenting the best image in the Kingdom. As usual, the annual exhibition receives artworks belonging to different schools of art that use multiple media such as drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video works, and others. And in this way, the place becomes more than an exhibition and becomes full of many creativity and skills. It will be a space in which everyone converses in the language of art, and the audience receives the elite of artists. Artists talk to each other. 

‏When selecting artistic talents and participating creativity and shedding light on the best works in the exhibition, the Bahrain Annual Fine Art Exhibition offers four prizes, including the Al Dana High Award for first place. The Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition reflects what the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities believes in about the role of artists of different inclinations and artistic schools in promoting societies and promoting Bahrain's national and civilizational gains.

‏In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful exhibitions that I have visited in my life because of the many different creations that amaze you every second. The presence of many paintings or works of 

‏art in a variety of ways is creative and amazing. The exhibition was able to communicate its goal. There are many creations that motivated me to continue in this field and to share my drawings and to be more creative in them. I liked to go deeper in this field. The show was able to convey the charged ideas inside the paintings that the artists tried to convey in their artistic way, and they succeeded in that. One of the most beautiful exhibitions that I visited, and I hope and aspire to be one of the participants in this exhibition one day and to share my paintings, my feelings, and my message through my works, as the creative artists did.
