Rainy Season - Morpheus x Reader
[Spoilers for Brief Lives I guess?]
Tumblr media
[MASTERLIST] | [Sandman-inspired playlist]
SUMMARY: Fed up with Dream's stubborn and at times childish attitude, you leave Dreaming. But when Morpheus's sorrow makes itself known, Matthew has to fetch you before the kingdom completely floods.
WORDCOUNT: ~ 1.7k
It’s a tumultuous morning in the Dreaming. Even if none of the dreams and nightmares are privy to the ongoing feud, they know something is wrong. It’s as though the air in the kingdom, the marrow of their bones, turned bitter last night. Their skin is crawling but the sun is shining as it did yesterday. They birds chirp the same song they had throughout centuries. And yet, against their better judgment, something is terribly out of place.
To be honest, you don’t even remember how all of this started but the damage is already done.
A frustrated scream ripples through your chest, "The world doesn't revolve around you!" You're fuming. There's only so much patience one person can hold and recently, Morpheus had proven himself exceptional at trying to reach its limit until he, unfortunately, succeeded today. "For someone who's supposed to know every thought ever entertained, you sure can not look past the tip of your own nose."
His eyes, cold and hurt, stare at you in utter confusion. Dark eyebrows furrow. "I do not know what you're expecting of me,” he states in an angry voice. It appears that he really does not understand the reason for your outrage. "I am not human, I am unable to look at the world as you do."
Of course he says that, you think to yourself. It seems to be his favorite line of defense. Dream of the Endless is a strange, eldritch creature. He doesn’t comprehend the world like a mortal does and, or some reason, he treats this fact of nature as an excuse not to try. At first, you thought it charming - to see the universe through the eyes of a creature you can barely begin to understand. Who wouldn’t? The strange wonder of the man in front of you made you seek his company again and again. Truthfully, there’s something poetic about it: the reason you’ve come back to him so many times might be the very reason you bid him farewell. For good.
"Good news, then: you don't need a cardiovascular system to exercise empathy.” Your sarcastic tone has an effect on Morpheus. He frowns, hurt by your words, only to grow angry that he’s so affected. Dream’s pride makes him want to not be influenced by your bitterness. Alas, he cares more than he’s willing to admit. "Not everything is about you, Morpheus, and until you realize that, I don't think we've got more to talk about. Goodbye."
Even after you shut the door behind you, the word echoes through the castle. The stone walls seem to whisper it back to Morpheus, rubbing the salt in his wound. How strange it is - to be haunted by somebody still alive. To be the king of dreams and feel hopeless. It would be funny if it didn’t make him want to be unmade.
A thunder rolls. A blue lightning splits the sky in two. Despite the lovely weather in the morning, it starts to rain in the Dreaming.
The storm doesn’t stop after a few hours nor does it cease after a few days. Black clouds cover the sky as they did four days ago. The only change is in the water level: the kingdom is flooded. When everyone thought the rain is bound to stop soon, no one minded much the rising tide. However, when the situation only worsened with no evidence that it’s going to improve in the near future, worried voices started to reach Lucienne. If the storm doesn’t cease in the next day or two, some parts of the Dreaming will share the fate of Atlantis.
If Morpheus knew he was being observed, he didn’t show it. Perhaps he doesn’t feel up for another confrontation. In any event, he remains still, standing against the balcony reiling, as his friends begin plotting:
"How is he?" Matthew whispers to Lucienne. "Has he moved from there at all? Ate something? Said anything?"
"That's three 'no's, I'm afraid,” she answers slowly. The librarian lets out a heavy sigh. "He's just dramatically standing there, wallowing in pity."
Dream really is 'just standing there’. Drenched. His hair and clothes are stuck to his pasty skin. It can’t be comfortable but it would appear that matters other than cosiness are on his mind at the moment. For the past few days, ever since you left, he hasn’t moved even a quarter of an inch. Truthfully, he looks about as alive as a marble statue, if monuments could appear excruciatingly miserable.
"Should we do something?" The raven continues. What he really wants to ask is 'What should we do?’ but Lucienne seems to catch the undertone of his words nonetheless.
"You could ask her to come back but no guarantee she'll want to,” she thinks out loud. "They've fought before but this time she looked really defeated."
Morpheus, although doesn’t need to breathe, sighs loudly. As he exhales, another lightning tears the sky apart.
"Alright, I'll try to convince her to talk to him again,” Matthew states. His worried voice makes him sound determined to have the two of you reconcile. "Hopefully, we'll be back before you need a canoe."
Lucienne doesn’t respond. As much as she doesn’t want to admit to her pessimism, she knows better than to have much hope in the matter of Dream’s love life.
Repetitive tapping on the window diverts your attention from the dishes you were washing. Seeing the black bird sitting on the outside windowsill, you quickly wipe your hands against the dishrag and jog to open the window.
"Matthew?" you ask in surprise.
He wastes no time pleading his case in a plaintive tone. "You gotta go back to him. Everything's gone to shit."
You furrow your eyebrows. Leaning against the wall, you cross your arms on your chest. "What do you mean?"
The raven hops closer to you. "It's been pouring nonstop since you left. He's just standing there, soaking wet and he won't talk to anyone."
It might sound sadistic but it’s a nice thought that he’s grieving your departure so severely. For what it’s worth, it means he’s not as blase as he likes to appear. Perhaps, Morpheus cares about you more than you’re even aware of.
"How bad is it?" you ask warily.
"How bad?!" Matthew screeches. "The House of Mysteries is so flooded, Abel is fishing."
It sounds like 'bad' is nothing more than an elegant euphemism. In his heartache, Morpheus is willing to let Dreaming decay and fall into partial ruin. If your accusation had been correct and Dream of the Endless truly is unable to care about anyone but himself, such a disaster would never have happened. A selfish ruler wouldn’t let his realm turn to rubble because of a broken heart. And if you’re more important than what he calls home, then…
"I'm assuming that's not a usual feature,” you give the raven a half-hearted response. The thoughts inside your head are in a painful turmoil, trying to lift the truth out of the indications.
"Yeah," he answers sarcastically.
Matthew glares at you in anticipation. Perplexed, you rub your arm without thinking much about it. Right, it's the mature and responsible thing to do but at the same time, why do you have to be the one to cave in every time you two fall out? If Morpheus cares for you as much as his dramatic show of pain and grief would suggest, shouldn’t it be him travelling across world and realms to reach you?
The raven cocks his head. Something about the look in his eyes changes as though his frustration has faded away or grown into desperation if not powerlessness. He’s tired and out of options.
"Alright, let's go," you say with a sigh. "But no promises. I still have pride and self-respect and he's still a stubborn..." you take a deep breath, "nevermind. Let's just go."
Miserable.
That's the only word that comes to your mind as you stare at him from afar. One would think that an entity of his sort can not be or look miserable but maybe this world is even stranger than you've thought. His clothes are drenched to the point of being see-through. Dark, once-tussled hair is now stuck to his face and neck. Dream's body looks even more stringy as his head is hanging low between his shoulders.
The rain is almost deafening. Your cautious, hesitant footsteps shouldn't be audible and yet Morpheus turns around to look at you when you come closer.
"I didn't think you'd come back," he says in a low, groggy voice. Dream's eyes, once blue and cold, are now red and unsettlingly vacant. Has he been crying? "What do you want?"
You take a deep breath. It was vain to expect him to welcome you with open arms. An eldritch being with a bruised ego and a broken heart could never make for a hospitable host. Even to those whom he misses the most.
"I still stand by what I said, it's just..." you hang your voice for a moment to find the proper words. Seeing him so broken by your fight makes some part of you want to renounce everything that lead to your argument. Anything just for him to be alright again. But the more reasonable side of you knows that such an action would only hurt both of you in the long run. "I admit, I could have said it in a more civilized way. I'm sorry. You didn't deserve that harshness."
His gaze falls and Morpheus looks away for a moment.
Whether he's doing it consciously or not, the rainstorm ceases. Black clouds slowly drift away to uncover a clear, blue sky. Somewhere in the West, if there are cardinal directions in Dreaming, the sun is beginning to set. Despite the significant improvement, the air remains cold. A harsh wind nips at your drenched form. In a vain attempt to shield yourself from the discomfort of the weather, you put your arms around your torso. Still, your body trembles.
"Perhaps I should have put more effort into understanding your concern. I'm..." he turns silent for a second. His lips are apart but no sound is coming out of his mouth. Dream's hurt gaze meets yours. "Sorry," he whispers finally. Despite his voice being hardly audible, the weight of his confession is almost deafening.
"There's one more thing, Morpheus."
Those sad blue eyes stare at you in anticipation. The misery on his face makes you think that he's expecting to have his heart broken again, instead of mended.
A couple of grey clouds reappear above your heads. Oh no.
"I'm tired of always being the one to reach out," you confess. His gaze is too intense and you quickly look away from him. There's much on his mind. "No matter who's right or wrong, it's me who bridges the gap between us. Even if that angers me, I still do it. Every time. And I don't know what that says about me."
Your body trembles again but this time it doesn't go unnoticed by Morpheus. He, quite literally, pulls a coat out of thin air. Dream's movements are almost fearful as he cautiously places the garment around your shoulders.
"Perhaps in certain aspects, you are better than me," he answers quietly while fixing the coat to fit you better.
You know you're pushing your luck when you look at him again and ask a not-so-innocent question:
"You mean a 'better person'?"
"I'm not-" He bites his tongue just in time. Morpheus is not a person. Both of you are perfectly aware of it. But it was the mention of this very fact that had brought such disastrous rain to Dreaming. "Yes. A better person."
There's not much conviction in his words but there is, however, a silent promise to find it.

Now that I’m in mourning, I thought it fitting to finish reading "Brief Lives" and the bittersweetness of it felt all the more pronounced. Reading it prompted me to rewatch the show and long story short I’m kind of back in my Sandman feels.

Guys I will defend NAMOR until death do me part. Yes he killed the queen of wakanda. He fucking drowned her and probably a lot of other fictional people too. But am I the only one reading into the theme that imperialism pits marginalized groups of people against each other. and by doing that it can cause drastic affects in marginalized communities that might make us lose sight of the systems in place that’s function is to harm us. And by succumbing to vengeance we only cause more damage to ourselves.
I would even personally understand if Shuri killed Namor but just imagine the effect It would’ve had on his people. If shuri had killed Namor I would still think the best option is for the people of Atlantis to forgive her and understand what she was going through. but honestly how could you ask that of them 2 when all they see is someone who killed their Protector just like namor did to shuri killing her mom. If they don’t want perpetual war at some point somebody is gonna have to forgive somebody else and it’s better if it’d be earlier than later so less damage is caused.
It’s either forgiveness or damnation on both empires and never actually dealing with any of the problems that got them they’re just worsening them.
Neither of them are the center of the problem at the end of the day in the story. The problem is Those who want to cause Instability with vibranium. The battle between their armies is just causing both fictional empires unnecessary harm. They Need to stop their war and if they really want to reduce these kinds of tragedy. They need to focus their strength on those who threaten their empire/communities and who oppress people across the marvel Cinematic universe. if they want to reduce harm they need to kiss and make up. They need to fight together and not against each other anymore.
That’s a strong fucking message about how we all need to stop falling for scapegoats. And how we all need to become more critical of our justice system for Blinding us by seeking vengeance instead of healing The wounds it has caused. how we need to become more critical of just actively causing our communities more harm instead of trying to actually reduce the harm. By radically changing systems that keep people oppressed. and that’s how I’m choosing to connect to the story the protagonist, antagonist, and team that worked on Wakanda forever presented us.

Whale Song - Orm Marius X Female Reader
Tumblr media
Title: Whale Song
Orm Marius X Female Reader
Additional Characters: Clark (Mentioned), Bruce (Mentioned), Arthur, Damian (Mentioned), Orm's father (Mentioned), and the Justice League (Mentioned)
Requested by: Anon!
WC: 5,189
Warnings: Somewhat enemies to lovers, mild cursing, movie canon violence briefly mentioned, post-Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, during post-credits, italics used, book reference, banter, flirting, teasing, mentioned prejudice, slight angst, and fluff
You were upset. No, more than upset, pissed off. Annoyed. Furious. Normally you would get calls from Clark or Bruce, but never Arthur Curry - Aquaman. As his hologram figure shot out of your watch, you immediately frowned. Only having recently joined the Justice League, Arthur was known for causing a bit of trouble. You were both very different from each other. You were one for talking to people, and he liked using his fists.
But when Arthur called you, it normally meant that he wanted something, needed you to do something for him while he was stuck down in the ocean doing his Kingly duties. All high and mighty. Well, you were fed up. The last time he asked you for something, you were pulled into a small battle, and you owed him twenty bucks - you weren't one to bet, but against Arthur, it was hard to not take part. You loved to see his face when he lost. And he lost most of the time.
But you knew that you were a pretty sensible person to go to when anyone needed anything. You were bright and always mindful. You were brilliant, having gone to Harvard before moving to the big city - Metropolis.
It wasn't long after you found yourself in the company of the world's strongest heroes. With your intellect and specific set of skills, both Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne thought you could be an invaluable member of the Justice League. Though, instead of fighting on the front lines, you would offer advice and wisdom when needed - along with helping the team with the tech that you created.
So, it didn't come as a surprise when Arthur called you on your 'Super Watch' as you called it, when you made it for you and the team. He came to you when he needed advice, which was a lot. If it had been anyone else, you would've been more than willing to help. But it was Arthur. However, you were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"I need to cash in that favor." He said. There was no greeting - no pleasantries. Just straight to business. Like he usually did when he needed something.
You rolled your eyes. If only you hadn't asked him to take you to see a Humpback Whale - him with his Kingly Atlantis powers. It had always been a dream of yours, and why wouldn't you take a chance to experience something new and amazing like that? During the time, in awe of the giant Humpback before you, asking for that favor was totally worth it.
However, at the moment, you didn't want to know what he wanted. There were so many things that he could possibly want. But, it was the weekend. Saturday. Not the day for you to play babysitter for some superpowered superhero. You already had to watch over Damian Wayne. You loved the kid, but you didn’t really think babysitting was your thing. "What do you want?" You asked, not bothering to mask the impatience in your voice. "I have a book I need to get to..."
"I need you to watch over somebody for me." He answered, seemingly aware of your impatience as he continued with a small grin on his face, "I believe that you heard that my brother has joined the surface world. He'll be needing some help adjusting and I think you-"
"Oh, no, no, no," You interrupted, shaking your head as you glared daggers at the hologram before you, "I am not babysitting your murderous brother." You ran a hand through your hair, "Do you know how much damage control I had to do when he tried to kill us surface-dwellers? It took me weeks to fix all that he did - with little help by the way!" You pointed an accusatory finger at him, "I already have a tough time babysitting the supers, I am not babysitting him too."
He sighed heavily. "Look, I know that this is a bit of a big favor-"
You scoffed, "A bit?"
"And I understand that being around new people is not exactly fun for you-"
You couldn't help but roll your eyes again, "Not just that, Art, I am not like you and the other supers. If your brother tries anything, I won't be able to stop him."
"He won't try anything," Arthur grinned, "He's changed, dude. He's not the same as he was over a year ago."
You nodded, taking another glance at the sky outside your window. "That's good if what you say is true." You agreed hesitantly. "If I am going to do this, and if," You emphasized, letting out a deep breath, "How am I going to find him in the first place? I don't know what he looks like or even where he is. On top of that, I don't even know what his name is."
Arthur gave a small nod. "His name is Orm. I believe he is residing in Metropolis at the moment. For the past couple of weeks, he's been going from city to city, with what little Atlantean money he has left on him. I'll send you a description of his appearance. That'll help, but I think you'll know it's him when you see him."
"Really?" You asked, resting your hand on your hip, "I'll know?" But, Arthur said nothing, only giving you that 'know-it-all' look before hanging up the hologram call.
Huffing, you dropped your hands, only to raise them to your face and rub your cheeks; overall pretty annoyed. Freezing, you cursed at yourself, forgetting to ask how long you'll be watching over this Orm.
~~~
Sitting on a small bench, you adjusted your open book, glancing down at the pages. But, instead of reading about a boy and his little sister who fell down a laundry chute and into a strange underground world, you let your eyes wander across the sheet of printer paper that you placed in between the pages. Hiding the fact that you were looking for someone by pretending to read. Your eyes scanned around the page slowly, trying to memorize what Arthur gave you. How could you possibly find this man? Especially with what Arthur had given you to help you find him? Metropolis was huge!
Looking up, your eyes quickly settled on someone in front of you at an outside restaurant, there was a man; tall - seemingly - and blonde; eating a burger. Immediately as your eyes landed on him, you knew. Arthur was right. This was definitely him.
You suddenly stood, shutting your hardcover book with a snap before walking across the street. Your eyes again locked onto his frame, watching as he continued to chow down on the large burger in his hands. It confused and unnerved you, but the closer you were getting to the man, the more your heart began to race. And it may or may not have been because you thought this Orm was rather attractive. Arthur's family had some good ass genes.
Before you could even figure out what you were supposed to say, you took a seat across from him; the metal of the chair's legs scraping against the concrete ground sharply. The younger Atlantean prince paused his chewing, his crystal blue eyes staring at you with confusion and obvious caution. You understood that if anyone sat before you while you were trying to enjoy your lunch, you probably would've reacted the same way.
"Hello," You began, immediately inwardly cringing at how awkward your own voice sounded, "Um, I'm Y/N." You watched as he continued chewing, though slowly, his eyes continuing to look over you; still wary. "I'm friends with your brother. He asked me to help you, uh, get used to the surface."
At that, Orm huffed, setting down his burger; annoyed. "I do not need any help." He spoke, his voice firm, but smooth; a shiver ran down your spine. “How did you find me?” Without another word, you pulled the paper from Arthur out of the book, showing it to him. Orm’s eyes widened before narrowing, “Is that supposed to portray me?” He asked, gesturing to the crude drawing of himself - drawn by none other than Arthur himself - you could tell that Orm was not fond of the portrayal at all.
You gave him a deadpanned look, mentally finding this whole interaction very funny - funnily enough. But, you still had work to do. "Listen, I don't really want to do this either. I'd rather be at home reading. But, I owe him a favor and I'm a woman of my word. I understand that you are perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, but you are technically a fish out of water in this situation. There are going to be things here on the surface that you won't be able to navigate." You let out a breath, rubbing your temple with two fingers, "So please, let me at least help you with a few things that are mandatory for those that live on land."
After a few moments of silence, Orm squared his jaw as he rubbed his hands clean of the burger's grease with a napkin. The silence between the both of you was unnerving and tense, but you fought through it, not wanting to back down. Even though you were rather annoyed by this whole fiasco, you were a good person, and you weren't about to let a guy with an attitude ruin things for himself just because of his pride or whatever.
"Fine." He grumbled finally, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. "What must I do then?
"Well," You began, gesturing to the side of his burger where you saw a pair of bug legs sticking out, "We have a lot to cover."
~~~
For the next couple of weeks, you began teaching Orm about the surface world, though he was rather hesitant to follow your instructions. In the beginning, he complained and made small comments here or there, but Orm seemed to have noticed your no-nonsense nature. He didn't complain anymore after another firm talking-to, and you found out afterwards that he was a rather fast learner. He had no consistent place to live, moving from hotel to hotel, you knew he could only do that for so long; plus you knew from experience that some hotels were less than ideal to stay in, especially ones that were located near the center of the city.
Therefore, you decided that Orm staying in one of your homes, near the shore in California, was a more ideal option for him. And if you were being honest with yourself, you were beginning to enjoy the youngest Atlantean prince's company; far more than Arthur's, that was for sure.
During the time that Orm has been staying in your humble abode, you made sure to keep him up with the latest tech, which was far different than in Atlantis, you were sure. From the toaster, blender, microwave, and even computer, you made sure that Orm had at least some, if not all, basic knowledge on the appliances around the house. As said before, Orm was an incredibly quick learner, having mastered most of everything within a matter of days.
However, what you did not expect was for you to begin to like him.
~~~
It had been a long night. You were sending email after email to some of your closest contacts and employees, making sure that they were keeping your empire afloat all the while you were on your "vacation" away from Metropolis. Some of your employees tried to get you to enjoy your so-called vacation, but it was hard to just not check up on how things were doing.
It was well past midnight, reading and re-reading past emails, and checking your phone every now and then, waiting for the familiar notification sound to go off signaling a new text message to come through. You frowned as you set your phone down on the desk beside your computer, letting out a sigh. You leaned your elbows on the table, rubbing your eyes with the palms of your hands, tired and absolutely exhausted.
Standing up, you shut your laptop and headed to the kitchen, quickly making yourself a small cup of tea; praying that it would hopefully help you go to sleep. You silently wandered around your seaside home, faintly hearing the ocean waves crash upon the shore. Taking a small sip of your tea, you hummed as it warmed your throat before pushing the back door open and stepping outside.
The warm breeze made you smile, as did the smell of the salty ocean a couple hundred feet away from you. It was hard to see it, but you could see the moon reflecting off the waves. Resting your forearms against the wooden railing of the porch, you occasionally sipped your tea while enjoying the quiet.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" The smooth, yet low voice asked, startling you slightly.
Raising a hand to your chest, you let out a deep breath as you swiftly turned to see Orm standing a foot or so behind you; arms clasped behind him. His eyes never met yours, the deep blues staring right back at the raging waves.
"Of course." You replied softly, as he did, turning to look back at the ocean in question, "It always is."
Orm wandered over, taking the spot next to you before speaking, "Do you enjoy the ocean?" He asked, his question surprising you slightly, but you didn't hesitate to answer.
"Yes." You replied, "Ever since I was a kid." Taking a sip of your tea, you swallowed before continuing, "I always lived in the city. I hardly got to see the ocean, we- my family rarely went to the beach. But that never stopped me from loving it." You shuffled one of your feet, the soul of your slipper slipping against the white wood. Looking up, you finally made eye contact with him, "What about you? I mean, you lived in the ocean most of your life, what's it like?" You asked, your curiosity clear in your tone.
He looked at you, his sharp eyes almost glowing from the moon's rays in the darkness of the night. "It is wonderful." He replied simply, looking back out towards the sea once more. "But, I cannot really describe it; it is not something one can explain simply." You gave a nod, as he shifted uncomfortably in his stance. "You had spoken that helping me acclimate to the surface was a favor owed to Arthur, correct?"
You nodded once more, "Yes, it was," You began, glancing over at him only to see that Orm was already looking at you, "Though, to be perfectly honest, his favor was much bigger than mine was." You chuckled lightly, scratching the back of your neck as you stared into his blue eyes.
He tilted his head curiously, "Is that so?" He questioned,
"Well, yes-" You bit your lip, shifting in your position as you glanced back at the horizon, "I just asked to see a whale."
At that, Orm raised an eyebrow, "A whale?"
You hummed in confirmation, "Yep, I just wanted to see a whale. I really like whales. And sharks. But I like whales the most. They sleep upright which is super cool. They are just so fascinating." You gushed, a bright smile slowly spreading onto your face before you cleared your throat, "I mean, you must’ve noticed. I have like ten paintings of whales in there." You finished, gesturing back at the house with a nod of your head, feeling a bit embarrassed by your small rant. Meeting Orm’s gaze once again, you swore that you saw a small smile on his face, but before you could fully confirm it with yourself, he hummed before looking back at the ocean.
"Was it all that you hoped?" He then asked.
"Yeah, definitely. When I was available, he took me to Maine and used his ocean magic to summon a Humpback Whale." The memory of seeing that whale made your chest swell with pride. You smiled as you watched the waves ripple gently across the sand. "When it breached the water, I felt as if I took my first breath. It was the nicest thing Arthur has done for me."
Orm felt a pang in his chest, a wave of jealousy washing over him, making him shift in his stance, his grip on his hand behind his back tightening. For the past month or so, Orm had grown accustomed to being around you, and he had found himself liking you quite a bit despite how much he disliked humans. It wasn't something he'd admit to anyone else aside from himself, but you managed to make him feel a little better, more relaxed, even. And, he actually enjoyed spending time with you. "Does Arthur do nice things for you usually?" Orm inquired, attempting to push down his jealousy.
You shook your head, "Nope, never." You laughed lightly, before placing both hands on the railing, leaning forward slightly, "He usually likes to tease me, you know, joke around. I find him annoying most of the time." You admitted, "But, I should thank him next time I see him in person." You yawned, grabbing your empty cup from the wooden railing with one hand as Orm turned to look at you properly.
"Thank him?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowing together ever so slightly as you paused at the back door, your back facing him.
"Yeah." You responded softly, shrugging one shoulder, "If he didn't ask me to help you, I never would've met you." There was silence between the two of you for a few moments until you turned your head to look back over at him, meeting those same deep blue eyes that seemed to stare right into your very soul. You took the moment to let your eyes travel over his handsome features: the light stubble along his jawline, his blonde hair combed perfectly, the softness of his skin, and his lips. You could have stayed longer looking at him, staring at the man who unknowingly caused so much pain in your heart, but you could not allow yourself to continue. Instead, you quickly averted your eyes, clearing your throat awkwardly, "I'm going to head to bed. Goodnight, Orm." You said before ducking back inside.
"Goodnight, Y/N." Orm muttered, his voice low as he stared at the back door, where your figure had disappeared into, his blue eyes lingering on the door for a moment before he sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. It wasn't long until he looked back at the crashing ocean, his eyebrows furrowed.
When Orm found himself living with you at your beach house, he did his best to keep his distance, avoiding you as much as he could when you weren't trying to teach him the ways of the surface-dwellers. His stubbornness was also partly due to the fact that he was brought up in such a way to hate surface-dwellers; to despise them as a whole, and everything they stood for. But, even still, he couldn't bring himself to truly dislike you. Despite the nagging of his father's words echoing in his mind whenever he was close to you. He felt... something towards you. Something different; something new.
~~~
The next morning, you were up bright and early, heading downstairs to grab yourself a cup of coffee. Humming a soft, upbeat tune, you shimmied around the kitchen as you poured yourself some coffee; adding cream and sugar.
Glancing around the kitchen, and tilting your body to the side to peer into the dining room, your humming came to a stop. Usually, at the time that you came down for coffee, Orm had already figured out how to make his breakfast. Which usually consisted of eggs, bacon, and tea.
Frowning, you furrowed your eyebrows, glancing at the clock on the wall before finishing up stirring your tea. Grabbing the warm mug into your dominant hand, you pulled the edges of your cardigan closer around you; the mornings were always so chilly, being so close to the ocean and all.
Stepping out onto the back porch, you paused. There was Orm, leaning against the wooden beam of your railing - just as he did the night before. He was dressed for the day, in the Surface-Dweller attire you helped him buy. Sometimes, it was hard to believe that he wasn't from the surface world, he fit in so perfectly. His forearms were resting against the railing, slightly bent at the hip, his stormy blue eyes staring off into the crashing waves of the ocean only a couple of mere hundred feet in front of him. You leaned against the doorframe, worrying on your bottom lip. He must have missed his home - Atlantis - you knew that he did. You couldn’t imagine leaving your home, being forced to never return, in fear of imprisonment or even death. Even though you and Orm had a pretty rough beginning, your heart broke for him.
Your mind raced with possible ideas of how to try and cheer him up, your eyes flickering down at the wooden porch floorboard, spotting bits of sand sprinkled around here and there from your many adventures from the shore. You allowed your gaze to flicker back to the Atlantean man, studying the contours of the side of his face closely, taking in every detail. His brows furrowed tightly together, his lips slightly pursed in deep thought. He was so... Beautiful. Especially as the morning sun filtered into his hair, shining upon the blonde strands, causing them to appear almost white.
You blinked for a moment, shaking your head slightly as you focused back on trying to come up with an idea to cheer the man up. And then, it hit you. A surge of excitement rushed through you, making your skin buzz slightly at just the idea. Making yourself known, you walked over, taking your place beside him as he had done last night for you.
"Hey," You spoke up softly, setting your mug down on the railing, your fingers curling around the ceramic; warming them. "Good morning."
Orm turned his head, his gaze landing on yours before he returned his attention to the ocean, "Good morning."
You sighed, turning your gaze to stare at the ocean yourself, shuffling one of your socked feet against the wooden floorboards. "Have you eaten?" You breathed out, raising your cup to take a sip.
"Yes," Orm muttered, glancing at you briefly, "And you?"
You shook your head slightly, taking another sip, "No," You spoke against the rim of your mug, "I have not yet." You suddenly felt nervous, as the words that you had wished to say slithered on the tip of your tongue. "I was wondering if you'd like to go on an adventure with me?" You asked, turning your head to look back up at him, his eyes meeting yours.
"An adventure?" He repeated, raising a single eyebrow.
You nodded, unable to stop a smile from spreading on your face, "Yeah, well, I was thinking, you've been cooped up in this house for far too long." You placed your mug aside, turning your body to face him, your eyes bright. "So..." You trailed off, tilting your head to the side a bit - trying to read him, he seemed curious. "What'd ya say?"
"Where is it that you would like to take me?" He asked then, sounding curious and yet, hesitant.
"It's a surprise." You answered quickly - your excitement obvious - before grabbing your mug and speeding back inside. Pausing at the door, you braced your hand against the doorframe, looking back over at him. "You'll love it. I swear."
~~~
"May I open my eyes now?" Orm asked as you helped him out of your car, his hand covering his eyes, as you had asked him to do. From stepping out of the car, Orm could feel the difference in the air; it was warmer out, and he could still smell the salt of the ocean. And yet, he had no idea where you were taking him.
"No yet," Orm felt you take his other unoccupied arm, your two hands intertwining as you led him away from your parked car towards what he assumed was the entrance of something.
Orm hummed, the hand over his eyes twitching slightly from the urge to just look, "You are not leading me to my death, are you?" He asked, his tone laced with amusement.
"Hmm, no." You played along as you pulled open one of the double doors, leading him inside, "I wouldn't have you stay with me, for almost four months, just to take you to some secondary location to kill you." Your words made Orm chuckle as you began to drag him further into whatever mysterious place you had taken him to.
As Orm followed blindly beside you, he tried to tighten his hearing, seeing if he could pick up anything around him. For the most part, he didn't hear any signs that anyone else might be around. As far as he could tell, it was only the two of you. He couldn't help but wonder, why the sudden trip? With a gentle tug, he felt you come to a stop, one of your hands dropping from his arm.
"Okay," You breathed out, "You can look now." Dropping his hand, Orm blinked his eyes rapidly, before they widened. So... This was where you were taking him. An aquarium. The water from the aquarium tunnel reflected on the walls in a kaleidoscope effect, tinting in stunning blues and greens. Fish, some sharks, and even a few stingrays of all species swam about everywhere. The underwater tunnel gave off a soothing atmosphere, as if the water itself was saying; 'Welcome.' His eyes followed the graceful movements of the sea creatures above, his ocean-blue eyes flickering from fish to fish, his lips parted slightly. You broke your gaze from the tunnel, turning to look up at Orm, your smile slowly dropping as you took notice of the expression on his face. It was hard to decipher it, your mind beginning to overwhelm you with 'what ifs' and terrible doubts. "Do you not like it?" You asked softly, your voice filled with uncertainty. Orm swallowed hard, but you continued, "I mean, of course, you might hate it." You began to ramble, running a hand through your hair, looking anywhere else but at him, "I mean, this is technically like a prison for fish. But, I assure you, I practically built this aquarium - all the fish have all the food they could possibly want, all the space-" Orm looked down at you, watching as you continued to stumble over your words, “I know you must have been feeling homesick, and I know you can't really go into the ocean, so I thought that you might like it here-”
“Y/N.” He finally spoke, interrupting your rant, “Thank you.” The words seemed to have easily slid off his tongue, his eyes softening as you stared up at him with those eyes of yours.
“So, I haven't upset you?” You asked, pulling your bottom lip under your teeth once more.
Orm shook his head, reaching up with his hand, his thumb gently brushed against your bottom lip, pulling it from between your teeth, freeing it; you felt your cheeks heat at the touch, your eyes fluttering momentarily as the warmth of his finger pressed against your bottom lip. “You have not upset me.” Orm tried to reassure you, giving you that smile of his that made your heart flutter. “In fact, this must be the best surprise I have ever received.”
“Really?” Your eyes lit up, your smile growing, and at Orm's nod, you sighed, “Wow…” Turning back to look at the fish swimming in the large aquarium glass around you, you spoke once more. “Beautiful, isn't it?” You mimicked his own words from two days prior.
"Yes," Orm muttered, "Very beautiful…”
Looking up at him, you were surprised to find Orm already looking down at you. You felt your breath hitch, again, unable to look away as his eyes bore down into yours with such intensity. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, a faint crease appearing on his forehead. The air around you grew thick, and it wasn't until Orm reached out, cupping your cheek with one hand, that you finally realized just how much closer your faces were than usual. And yet, you did nothing to pull back. Instead, you simply held your breath, your gaze locked onto his, as his thumb ran along your cheek, his fingers tangling themselves in your hair slightly, drawing you closer to him.
His brows furrowed deeper, his eyes darkening slightly as he gazed down at you. His lips parted slightly, a breath leaving him, before he leaned forward; his lips barely brushing against yours. Slowly, hesitantly, he closed the distance between the two of you. Your eyes fluttered shut as his hand slid down from your cheek to cradle your neck, keeping you close. Your arms wrapped around his middle, your fingers gripping tightly at the fabric of his sweater - you never wanted this moment to end.
The kiss lasted mere moments before you both pulled apart, unable to stop yourselves from smiling at each other. Orm felt an immense sense of happiness overtake him as his blue eyes met yours, his cheeks tinted a soft pink. "Arthur was right," He said - mentally hating the words that seemed to slip so easily from his lips - his hand moved to tuck a strand of your hair behind your ear, his thumb grazing across the shell of your ear.
You couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, raising one hand to press his palm into your cheek, "Arthur was right about what?" You narrowed your eyes playfully, "He's hardly right about anything."
Orm let out a deep sigh, silently agreeing with you, "The surface world is not as terrible as I always believed and was told." He smiled down at you, his hand falling from your cheek to take your hand in his, "You have proven that. As well as Arthur.” You tilted your head to the side lightly, letting out another laugh before shaking your head; Orm's smile quickly turned into a small, anxious frown, "Don't tell Arthur I said that."
"I won't." You promised, your eyes crinkling as you laughed out your words, "He wouldn't shut up about it if I did." Orm chuckled as he nodded his head as you interlaced your fingers with his, "So..." You trailed off, "Do you want to see the rest of the aquarium? I rented it out for the next two hours. So, we got the whole place to ourselves." You waved your free hand in the air, gesturing to the long empty tunnel that led the way to the rest of the aquarium.
"Lead the way." Orm smiled, squeezing your hand in his own gently as he allowed himself to be guided by you; he would follow you wherever you went.
Adventures In Atlantean-Sitting
Chapter 5
Fandom: Aquaman
Pairing: Ormxfemale!Reader
Warnings: some violence
Summary: Orm and YN are cooped up after a metahuman attack, but when its finally safe YN takes Orm to the amusement park
Notes: 'Orm is a witch in the woods' forever
Tumblr media
Orm’s attitude since the movie and diner date had improved immensely. He was still aggravated that he had to wear the bracelet, it itched, and he missed having his abilities, but YN wouldn’t budge. He could see now that trying to run had been a huge mistake and her trust was broken. He wasn’t sure he would ever earn it back and for some reason that irked him the most. The last few weeks they had been getting along great and he found that she was probably the best friend he had ever had. He didn’t realize that she felt the same way about him, but he hoped she did.
YN threw herself into showing Orm everything she could about the surface world. They went on hikes to lakes and wildflower fields where he asked her question after question about nature in the area. Turns out being alone for long amounts of time gives one all kinds of time to learn and YN was very knowledgeable. They would cook together, and she taught him how to bake, though those lessons normally ended with them covered in flour and noticing how much they liked the others’ laugh. And the movies, they went to the movie theater every weekend and watched different shows and movies every night on the couch. It was becoming a routine for them and Orm found he loved it. He was starting to wonder if that’s why he always used to be angry, maybe he, as YN liked to say, just wanted to be a witch who lives in the woods and gives out full size candy bars to the brave kids on Halloween. He had no idea what half of that statement meant, but he got the idea of it.
Another attack happened while Orm was there. They soon found out that it wasn’t Atlanteans, just run of the mill metahuman stuff, but YN still thought it was a good idea to stay inside for a couple weeks, make sure that Atlantis didn’t send anyone to poke around. They spent three weeks inside and by the end of it Orm was crawling up the walls. He didn’t like what the isolation was doing to YN either. Instead of doing things she normally did, she was hiding out with him because she was worried he would try to run again. Finally, he sat on the couch in the early afternoon and looked at her.
“We need to get out of here,” Orm said. YN looked at him from her place on the floor, reading. “You have read that book twice since we started this quarantine. No Atlanteans ever came looking for me, the city is rebuilding from the damage, it seems like a good time to get out and do something.” She put down the book and looked like she was in thought. “Let’s go to the movies.” Orm was trying very hard to get her to agree to go out, just for a little while.
“No, not the movies,” she said, rising. “Go get dressed, we’re doing something new, something I hope you’ll love.” Orm hopped up, not needing told again. They both went into the bedroom and Orm grabbed a shirt while YN grabbed some thinks from her closet. She turned to exit and Orm was already in his underwear, ready to throw on his new clothes. YN stared for a second. “You’ve been hiding all that.” Orm looked at himself.
“What?” he asked.
“Nothing,” she said quickly, blushing as she headed to the bathroom to change. Orm smiled a little. They had been dancing around each other, flirting here and there, and it made his blood run a little faster knowing that she was attracted to him. He sighed. He had to face the fact sooner or later, at some point in time he had stopped thinking of YN as his babysitter, or even his friend, she was so much more than that. Maybe she felt the same way? After whatever activity they did today he would have to find out.
YN put her clothes on for what she planned with Orm and then she splashed some cold water on her face. Yes, Orm was hot, and yes, she was very interested in him beyond the fact that he was hot. Ever since he had arrived, she had been chipping away at his exterior and she loved what she found. If only he could feel the same way she did. But why would he? He was pretty much a step down from being a god, and she just a human, just his babysitter while he waited for Atlantis to forget about him. It was hopeless. She let out a breath and headed back to the living room. Orm was waiting and he smiled at her, and it made her heart flutter. Alright, maybe there was some hope.
Orm was staring. This place looked as bright and colorful as Atlantis, and he felt homesick for a moment. YN seemed to notice and frowned.
“Do you hate it?” she asked, clearly worried she had made a mistake bringing him to the amusement park on the pier. He slowly shook his head.
“No, its amazing, reminds me of my other home,” he said. YN’s heart nearly stopped.
“Your other home?” she asked. Atlantis was his home, what other home was there? It couldn’t be her little cottage. He looked down at her and smiled.
“Atlantis, this reminds of there, my home here is your place,” he said simply, as if it were the truest thing in the world. YN smiled back at him and took his head. “What do we do first?”
“Roller coaster let’s get that out of the way before we try to eat anything,” she said, pulling him in the direction of a large wooden track structure. As they got in line, he watched the cars going up and down the hills and he felt a little nervous.
“What is the point of this thing?” he asked, watching as someone got off the ride and immediately emptied their stomach in a trash can. YN pushed his face so he would stop watching and he wished she would touch him again like that, he loved it.
“It’s a thrill, for some people it’s the closest they get to flying,” she explained. They soon were on the ride and Orm was screaming and laughing as the coaster raced around the track. When it finished he wanted to go again, so they did. However, after the second time he started to feel dizzy and could understand why someone could get sick on that thing.
“That was amazing,” he said as they headed to ride something else. YN took him on everything, the swings, the pirate ship, the boat hide, the haunted house. It was nothing like he had experienced before and by the time they were getting funnel cakes to eat he was trying to figure out how to come back again the next day.
“I guess you like it here,” YN said as if reading his mind. He chuckled. “I hoped you would, I know its not easy being stuck with one person, or in one place, for a long time, I hope this whole thing hasn’t been too bad.” Orm shook his head.
“Honestly, this whole thing, the cottage, the movies, the rides, you, this has been the greatest thing to happen to me,” he said. YN eyes watered a little and he worried he had stepped too far, maybe she didn’t want him to think so highly of her.
“Thank you Orm, that is incredibly sweet,” she said. She moved around to his side of the table and kissed his cheek. He blushed and cleared his throat, putting an arm around her shoulders.
“How about we do one of those games. I see one with water guns, I have a feeling I could win you something,” he offered. She nodded and they threw their trash away, and picked up some other discarded trash as they went and headed to the games.
Orm was very successful with the water gun game. YN walked out of the park with a dolphin the size of her cottage pretty much, holding it under one arm while she held his hand. They walked down the beach, and she stopped him.
“Alright, here’s the best part,” she said, turning back to the park. Orm turned and frowned, wondering what she was talking about. Then he heard a boom and saw lights in the sky. It was amazing. “The fireworks,” she explained as a few more went off. She watched him as he watched the lights. Finally, he sensed her eyes on him, and he turned to her. He was suddenly pushed by some unknown force to kiss her. He leaned in just a little, but stopped, not sure she would want this. His eyes shifted to her lips and back to her eyes and she seemed to understand. She nodded. He didn’t need told again. His lips pressed to hers, his free hand wrapping around to hold her head as his tongue pushed at her lips. She opened them and he tasted her, and he knew he never wanted to taste anyone else again. This was the perfect moment and his heart had never felt so full. He was pissed when the explosion rocked the pier. He turned and before he could stop himself, he was running back towards the attack, YN following him.
do you realize how awesome that would be between a cybertronian and an atlanian having a few similarities ?
also I had a lot of thoughts that had me sort of stuck.
Like the beginning part of how the atlanians were trying so very hard to out run an explosion. Perhaps a little tie to Quintess? something must of had their attention that they thus gave knowledge to them but later something that caused their downfall, just like Quintess and his creations. perhaps that was price?
would the Cybertronians know at some point, be it accident or intentionally, they seek them out? Even if they had no tie to the primes, it would still be one within of Primal. though the same could be said in reverse. either way, who knows what they may have inhereted by the line. Scratch that, the Guardian would more than likely prevent them from going further but say they do get past the Guardian and they do come across an Atlanian and thus their broken home beneath the surface.
I had forgetton that the stone(?) defense does react to danger and does choose someone of royalty. I did forget about the part where Kida was chosen and thus looked... crystalized? like energon. but also could not be touched cuz you'd wind up being like them too.
I unfortunately do not remember the all parts, only bits and pieces of the movie so feel free to ignore this.
There had been some talk that other ancient civilizations had their own massive technological marvel wonders in that movie verse, so perhaps there's something in the legends and myths…
I can't help but to think of it in a universe where Earth-is-Unicron or Unicron-yielded-Gaea because 1) we all need to utilize that way more, 2) makes sense with all the chaotic fuckery on the planet, and 3) would make a lot of sense on how it managed to store/grow Energon without tipping off a nearest spacefaring civilization, seems to be a reverse Cybertron in its makeup (dirt, metal, and water), yet able to support Primus’ own creations if utilized correctly, and build on the connection between Earth and Cybertron.
We're cousins. We have to fuck around with it. Especially with the same idea that Cybertronians and humans are cousins to the Quintessons since those multi-faced, space squids are Quintus’ descendants.
So that would make so much sense why Atlantis’ mobile weaponry was modeled after sea creatures. The Atlantians are taking advantage of the squids’ natural predators for extra psychological damage.
Imagine if the Leviathan ship came after the Quintesson invasion after a lot of tinkering between mechanical and organic components? The Atlantic answer to Quintessons’ space whale transport.
King Kashekim's dying words gave us so many details of the Heart itself and how it's able to make choices. Look, if that doesn't feel like a divine instrument or a Primal Artifact, then I don't know what does!
As a timeline, we could put the Downfall after repelling the Quintessons. King Kashekim would have had access to greater tech compared to other ally civilizations at that point, who's to say he wasn't looking to expand Atlantis’ dominion, especially after a massive undertaking and decisive win?
As for being searched by Cybertronians, it would depend on the universe. It would totally revamp the G1 episode with Atlantis and TFP would have really fantastic world-building on sentient Artifacts, Optimus not being the last of the Primes, and delve into the impact of cultural/religious instruments and “who” could claim them. Could the Autobots take the Heart and doom the inhabitants to ensure Decepticons don't raid it? What happens if the Heart refuses to cooperate? It may be a Primal Artifact/Titan, but who holds its loyalty? The descendants of its creator, especially with an unbroken lineage, or a pure Cybertronian Prime?
Could they even get past the Leviathan in the first place? This isn't a submarine where a standard mech could punch through its hull. A Leviathan is a proper war machine on a galactic standard and capable of transporting the Cybertronians themselves. Would it obey Optimus or not?
There are so many directions this could go. It's fascinating!
Goncharov the Musical (1985)
with all this goncharov posting I still haven’t seen anyone mention the musical adaptation! granted, if goncharov is a lost movie, then the musical is fricken atlantis, but the little-known adaptation did in fact exist, if very briefly. as far as I’ve been able to find out, there were only two showings and somewhere between 5 and 10 previews before it was shut down for good.
just as goncharov itself is full of bitter ironies, so too is the story behind the (partial) recovery of this musical. Cranston Park Theatre, where the musical was staged, suffered flooding in September of this year, forcing the theater to close for repairs. in clearing out their flooded basement, a few discs from the goncharov production were discovered, but not before the long submersion in water highly damaged them. yeah, the same flood that led to the discs’ rediscovery also ruined large portions of them. the irony is flawless, but I’m still mad about that lost history that may never be recovered.
however, we do have a mostly intact rendition of the first two numbers, which are, as in most musicals, an ensemble opener and an “I want” song. (many thanks to the Cranston Park Theatre employee who got permission to post the recovered clips to youtube!) the song titles are lost to time as far as I can tell, but we have some footage and that’s what’s most important. let’s dive in!
the ensemble opener: it’s very militaristic, which is an interesting choice. the stately march-style opener evokes the mechanical, grim themes present throughout much of the film— or, at least it would, if the costumes weren’t so ridiculous. despite the attempted seriousness of the number, the set and costumes come off as quite campy— perhaps this was an intentional mockery of the militaristic march, to emphasize the existing irony of comparing mafia and gangsters to soldiers? my favorite part about this number is that the strong, steady beat is exactly 60 bpm— one beat per second, like the ticking of a clock. say what you will about the directors of this musical, but they knew their motifs for sure!
the “I want” song: usually the second song of a musical would be given to the lead to sing their “I want” ballad— think “Waiting on a Miracle” in Encanto where Mirabel just wants to be special like the rest of the family, or “Carrie” in Carrie (a musical from around the same time period that suffered a similar fate of early cancellation, but that’s a parallel for a different post), where Carrie longs for her classmates to stop bullying her and see her for who she truly is. now, in Goncharov, this song is given not to Goncharov, but to Katya. this is fascinating! the narrative is essentially establishing Katya as the central character, of equal or greater importance than Goncharov himself. I wish so badly I could make out the lyrics, but the recording is too damaged for me at least. the tone of the ballad is emotional, though, and Katya can be seen gesturing to Goncharov, who is staged out of reach and out of earshot. At another point, she also gestures close to the wings, where there appears to be a figure? the video quality is very grainy but at least in my mind this has to be Sofia. (oh how I wish the lyrics were audible here!)  and of course, the centerpiece of the number (and the whole musical, really) is the giant clock tower in the square, which the choreography and Katya’s movements places as an important element of the song. the song ends with the tolling of the clock bells, setting the characters into a hurry about their business as if the spell is broken. ok, a little heavy-handed at this point. oh well, I honestly enjoy it, this song strikes the balance between sincere and campy— the choreography could be considered over-the-top and even a bit ridiculous in other circumstances but weirdly it worked?? one of my favorites and definitely the one I wish the most that we had a better recording of.
I’ll keep the analysis to just these two songs for now, but if anyone on some off-chance has found any better recordings of this musical please share them! not much is known about this musical’s history since it fell apart so quickly, likely due to budget and conflict between several of the lead actors and the director, so it’s entirely possible they performed at some other smaller theatre or at least rehearsed there. let’s piece this musical back together!
IMW Chapter 14
There was silence within the Watchtower as the Justice League and Young Justice, all of the leaguers sat mystified by the knowledge and the younger ones were openly gaping.
Lady Miracle- The Guardians are in charge of maintaining balance, not just on earth, but the entire universe. Coming on the topic of Wielders. When a proper Wielder is chosen, they are tested by a Guardian. While being healthy is important, it isn’t about physicality, it is about their soul and who they are as a person. Chat Noir and Hercules were outliers. Chat was not a good person and Hercules was suffering from a mental disorder that was made worse when he wielded the Miraculous and it killed him. When the guardianship was transferred to me I found out that I was a True Soul or a Natural Soul.
All the magic users gasped as one. A natural soul was rare as they came. Only one was born every few eons. Raven dropped down from her hovering knelt before the warrior, her deep purple cloak billowing around her. "Lady Miracle," Raven said in awe, "Grand Guardian of the Miraculous, I greet you in the name of Azarath." On the other hand, Lady Miracle only seemed honoured by this greeting, as she smiled gently and pulled Raven to her feet. Apparently, as the Guardian of the Miraculous and a True Soul, she had magic that unholyly screamed, “Pure Power! Literally controls the space you live in! Bow!” Superman- Why was a child like you forced to fight a war?
Lady Miracle- Children die slower when Wielding a Miraculous compared to adults.
Flash- What!?
Lady Miracle- The Miraculous are the most powerful and ancient magical artefacts in the universe. They can technically be Wielded by anyone, no matter race, age or planetary origin, but only for a short amount of time otherwise you die. It takes a lot for someone to be able to handle a Miraculous and wielding it drains your life force. Children are more resilient; they last longer than adults because they have more life to give. An adult might make a year as a Wielder if they are really healthy while a child will make it three or four before they die.
Green Arrow- Then how are you alive?
Lady Miracle- As I stated before, I am a True Soul. I was meant to wear them. The previous Guardian was not aware of this though.
Black Canary- That sounds like a lot of responsibility for a child.
Lady Miracle- It is, but there was no one else. At the time, Noir was always goofing off. The old Guardian was the reason the old Order fell.
Wonder Woman- What did he do?
Lady Miracle- When the previous Grand Guardian was just a trainee, he stole the Miraculous of Emotion and took the other Miraculous as leverage to leave the Order with his memories, training and magic intact. He was greedy, power-hungry and stupid. He used the Miraculous of Emotion to create a Senti Creature that attacked the Order and it killed everyone, razing the Temple to the ground in the process. As he fled, he lost the Miraculous of Emotion and the Miraculous of Transmission and despite searching for them, never found them until they were activated years later by Gabriel and Emelie Agreste.
Green Lantern- If the Miraculous are powerful enough to raze the old Order of the Miraculous, send Atlantis sinking to the bottom of the ocean and do what happened in Paris, why are they used at all? Why not lock them up and keep them somewhere safe so no one can abuse their power?
Lady Miracle- The Miraculous are only used when there is an imbalance that cannot be fixed by the Guardian’s alone or if there is a Miraculous being abused. Only a Wielder would be able to fix the damage caused and bring the other Miraculous back. Locking the Miraculous away is sound in theory, but the universe would suffer if they were locked away, the imbalance would be catastrophic.
Batman- What happened in Paris could have ended the universe?
Lady Miracle- Easily. We had a few close calls. Talk about Chat Blanc.
There was silence for a moment as the Justice League processed it. It was terrifying to think about; the end of everything and how close they had been, but each of those times Lady Miracle had been by herself. She had fought alone. Everyone was lost in their thoughts. Then Lady Miracle stood up. Lady Miracle- If that is all I will take my leave. Wonder Woman- Lady Miracle, I wish that you stay for a while. We wish that you may join the JL. Lady Miracle looked taken aback. Lady Miracle- Umm… I want to take a break from this field, but would it be fine if I stayed as a back-up member? Wonder Woman hands her her membership card along with other documents. Lady Miracle- You knew I would accept? Wonder Woman- A brave warrior like you who has fought so long and hard for the people will never give up helping the people. Lady Miracle- I have your mother to thank too for training me. Batman- Queen Hipolyta trained you? Lady Miracle- Many people trained me. Wonder Woman- Could you detransform? I wish to meet Tikki. Lady Miracle- Yes. Lady Miracle engulfed in a light and a Small red bug was floating beside her. Beast Boy- Aah! Bug no– Mouse! Flying Bug-mouse. Tikki- I am not a BUG-MOUSE!! Beast Boy- AND IT TALKS!! Lady Miracle bursts out laughing- That’s what I said when I first met her! While Tikki spent time catching up with Wonder Woman, Lady Miracle mingles with the other heroes for sometime. Then Batman approaches her and says, “there are some information that needs to be recorded regarding your powers and your temporary heroes. Would you like to do it now?” “Sure why not.” Batman sat at the computer and Lady Miracle stood behind him. “I’ll start with the temporary heroes. Rena Rouge is Alya Cesaire. Carapace is Nino Lahiffe Queen bee is Chloe Bourgeois Pegasus is Max Kanté King monkey is Kim lé Cheń Ryouke is Kagami Tsurugi Viperion is Luka Couffiane Vesperia is Zoe Lee Argos is Felix Graham Da Vanily Chat noir is Adrien Agreste “He was chat noir?” Red Robin asked from behind. “indeed. “Multi-mouse is Marinette Lucinia.” Batman’s breath hitched. No, no, no, please let him be wrong. “Marinette Dupain-Cheng?” “Yes, her name was Dupain-Cheng before she changed it in the court battle.”
Oh yeah she was going to give Wayne hell for this.
Red Hood seemed to freeze and so did Batman and Nightwing. Red Robin and Robin also looked attentively at the screen. Black Bat had gone back to Shanghai. “you're the reason she's died!” Red Hood spat out. All the leaguers turned to stare at them. She was gonna put up such a show Xuppu, Plagg and Trixx would be proud of. "Excuse me?" "You're her friend?!" Red Hood spat, "You put her in danger! You want to help her! Forget you ever met her! Forget she exists! Just take your stupid, fucking yoyo and leave her and never even think about her again! It took you years to stop that mad bastard! Years! Of her suffering! I will not let you put her in danger anymore. So stay the fuck away from her!" "Fuck you," Lady Miracle said casually. Red Hood saw Batman blink. The only sign of surprise he ever gave. Apparently, the hero was not prone to cursing. Not that Jason minded. Red Hood snarled. "Fuck. You." she said slowly, and that's when Red Hood noticed something. Lady Miracle wasn't angry. She wasn't frightened by his outburst. She wasn't even disturbed. Most people, any kind of people, would be at least a little affected by someone of Red Hood's stature and reputation coming at them in a screaming furry. But Lady Miracle just seemed mildly annoyed. It had Jason subtly reassessing the hero, even as the rest of him fumed with rage. Lady Miracle continued speaking. "Listen, Red Hood right? Let's get this straight. You don't get to talk about Paris, or Hawk Moth or whatever that furry called himself, or Marinette. You don't know my city. You don't know my enemy. And you most certainly did not help me save it. Did Marinette die? Yes, she did. But so did everyone in Paris. Hell! I've died! More times than I can count. So you don't get to tell me I've failed. Not when the Justice League did nothing to help. Not when I have faced horrors and nightmares. I have stood on a rooftop and watched millions drown. I have looked to the sky and seen it fall in flaming rain. I have stood over my own corpse and watched the world turn to ash around me. So sit and calm down.”
Nightwing was a rational person or so he liked to believe in comparison to his family but a large part of him wanted to tear the woman apart limb from limb. How dare she treat Isa's suffering with such coldness?! How dare she just dismiss her like a number on a page?! He barely even registered what else she said, because it was all he could do not to give in to the rage. But before he could, he hissed cold and quiet in a way that made the worst of humanity cringe in the shadows, "If you think for one second, that I'm going to let her anywhere near you, you've got another thing coming, bitch!"
Wonder Woman got up “That is ENOUGH! If you have something to say, Batman, do so or hold your piece!”
Batman remained stoic.
Wonder Woman took this as his final answer. “You have no right to say anything regarding this situation. Now move on with tests and if you are in no mental state to do so, Cyborg shall carry on with it.”
Cyborg got up and gently but firmly eased Batman out of the chair and sat down himself. Cyborg- So how big of an enemy can you take on? Lady Miracle- I could try to take on the Justice League? Green Arrow- WHAT?! Flash- Kid, don’t joke like that. Lady Miracle- Why don’t we try to test the theory? How many people are here? Red Tornado- 44 leaguers are currently present in this meeting. Lady Miracle- OK. Can you gather them up for a spar? Green Arrow- What conditions? Lady Miracle- Me on one side and you all on the other.
This is going to be fun.
How would you feel if Arthur and Mera had different parenting styles for Garth?
Let’s say Mera ironically understands the severity of Garth situation of being labeled as a Curse/abomination more than Arthur. So Mera tries to teach him to be self reliant, to not trust anyone/always assume people don’t have good intentions for you, etc. also since she was an assassin maybe it’d be interesting if she was the one who teaches him how to fight and use hydrokenisis. She could also be very blunt but at the same worrying about him a lot and being a helicopter parent.
While Arthur is the complete opposite where he believes if Garth continues being noble and trying to appeal to the people of Atlantis by being a hero and putting himself out there i.e Atlantean noble events and socializing with people, etc, more people will to learn to accept him and he tries to give him a if you want respect you gotta earn it type of mentality.
I feel like there would be some good drama and conflict that way. With both ways having positives and negatives that makes Garth more conflicted on the type of man he wants to be.
What do you think would be an interesting way for Mera and Arthur to raise Garth?
I think if you flip it and reverse it, that is pretty much how Garth was “raised” by Arthur and Mera.
I think it’s significant that Arthur teaches Garth to fight because Garth’s identify is Aqualad first, person second for a lot of his life. Arthur is basically a laid back bachelor when he finds an already pretty self-reliant kid in the middle of the ocean, so fighting together and just vibing is how they bond. It’s also the reason that Arthur acts more like a brother/friend than a father, although Garth certainly is projecting the desire for parents onto him.
My preferred Arthur backstory is the fully Atlantean one, and that Arthur has a chip on his shoulder regarding Atlantis. If anyone is going to be like “take care of yourself” it’s him.
Both Arthur and Mera understand being an outcast (it’s the common thread between all characters tbh) because Mera, in the canon where she knew Garth as a child, isn’t even from their dimension. She’s a princess from Dimension Aqua (aka Xebel, the retcon name) and is actually super isolated from her previous world. But she very much is a proper princess and Garth very much seems to think of her as a mother to him. It’s interesting because the Mera we know now in canon isn’t very similar to her older counterpart. The Mera that did live in the palace with Garth in silver/Bronze Age is actually very motherly and domestic, but not “feisty” like current Mera is. If anyone is going to say “let’s be polite and maybe they’ll like you more,” it’s Mera.
I also prefer hard water being a trait Garth doesn’t have. It’s weird that they keep giving him that power, I think it takes away from Mera who only had it because she wasn’t even from Earth. TT cartoon owes me damages from their portrayal of Garth with hard water powers.
I don’t think either of them saw Garth as their son. I think he occupied the “kid brother” role for both of them, and when Mera had her own baby he was shifted into uncle/babysitter real quick. Garth very much considered them his parents (until Aquababy died, at least) and you can see his loyalty to Mera stick around even though the 90s/2000s.
I've been struggling with a migraine and light sensitivity the last few days. I've watched some SGA but am struggling to even remember which episodes I watched. I think I watched Echoes, Tao of Rodney, and McKay and Mrs. Miller. Season 3 really does have some of the best episodes.
This morning, I decided it was time to start rewatching some of the good but hard episodes, which really are my favorites. I started with The Last Man and Search and Rescue.
The Last Man is one of those episodes where you really see how the city lights up for Sheppard. I don't remember which of y'all first put that in the tags, but I love it so. His home is always waiting for him, ready to light up. You see this as each corridor flickers on as he's walking through, like they remember him.
Rodney tells Sheppard they have to get him back in two months or everything is lost. Rodney explains about Teyla and then has to tell Sheppard it's not his fault. Like, holy cow dude, it's not your fault Teyla died. You go sucked 48,000 years into the future. (I totally relate to this. I'm very prone to taking on burdens that aren't mine. Not to share them, but feeling responsible for things in not responsible for.)
Guys! Sam's ship is the Phoenix. A Phoenix rises from the ashes. Is this a tiny ray of hope? A tiny bit of foreshadowing wrapped up in one word? Right in the middle of all the horror of what happened to his family, we have a ship named the Phoenix. And you know what the next episode is? Search and Rescue!
Having seen several seasons of SG-1, Sam's death hits hard.
Also, it's heavily implied that Woolsey himself is a better man because of Sheppard, which I find endearing.
Sheppard is concerned that if he gets sent back, he'll mess up Rodney's timeline, where he survives and gets the girl. Could this man be more selfless?
Um, Lorne has his Atlantis painting on the wall. The one from Sunday. Why did that make me cry?
This is the ultimate We Don't Leave Our People Behind episode. Even though they don't actually say that, they show it. Do y'all remember early on in season 1 in one of the earliest episodes Rodney wants to do something and Sheppard tells him that if it doesn't work it will take then like 200 years by puddle jumper to rescue him? Rodney asks if they'd come for him anyway, and Sheppard, deadpan, says sure. Well, Sheppard is trapped 48,000 years in the future, and Rodney spends 25+ years getting him back. It's not a sarcastic sure. It's an absolute solid yes because we don't leave our people behind, and each of our people is important. Without everyone together, we can't win this thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Search and Rescue is a trip.
Highlights include:
"As a rule, I like to keep the daring rescues down to one a day." - Caldwell
Ronon, the total mother hen, to Sheppard: Give it to me. You don't have to do everything.
Rodney delivering Teyla's son is never not special.
Sheppard leads the way in trusting Kanaan because Teyla trusts him.
Sheppard with the baby is epically beautiful. And I love Caldwell: Major Marks, please make that ship go away.
If you don't want a huge amount of psychic damage, make sure you watch these two episodes together. They're really great!
Essential Avengers: Avengers #294: "If Wishes Were Horses...”
Tumblr media
August, 1988
WHO leads the Avengers?!
-vibrates in anger-
You suck, Anthony Druid.
Let’s get into this.
Last times in Avengers: Despite having shown herself to be competent previously, leader of the Avengers Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel actually sucks and you’re a fool if you think otherwise. She spends all of her time thinking to herself about how incompetent she is and she never accomplishes anything without someone telling her to do it.
Grumble.
Also, Namor’s wife and former member of Alpha Flight Marrina turned into a giant sea monster for some reason. How mysterious. Dr Druid wanted them to murder her immediately if not sooner due to the damage giant sea monster Marrina was doing to shipping and coastal settlements. The other Avengers wanted to at least try to cure her, which Dr Druid saw as a foolish sentiment.
So after Druid mind manipulated into attacking Atlantis to get Namor on board, the Avengers tried a cure Hank Pym whipped up.
It worked for a hot minute before Marrina started turning into a monster again.
Thor and Captain Marvel shocked the transforming Marrina with electricity to try to stop her from transforming. But when it didn’t work, Namor took Black Knight’s extremely cursed sword the Ebony Blade and killed Marrina. With disastrous, to be revealed consequences for Black Knight because the extremely cursed sword had a blood curse on it and whoops slicing Marrina’s head open got blood on the blade.
Only after the fact does Dr Druid notice that Monica disappeared after she tried to shock Marrina.
Where could she beeeeee?
And what will happen to Black Knight?
Tumblr media
This will happen.
So, at the end of last issue, he passed out on his Atomic Steed flying device. So when they brought him into the Quinjet, why did they put him near the controls? Don’t they have a medical bed or something in the back?
Anyway, Black Knight is freaking out and thrashing so hard that even Thor and She-Hulk - who can probably throw buildings - are having trouble holding him down.
Cough cough bullshit cough.
He calls out for this sword so Thor being Thor decides nothing wrong with giving a man a sharp object when he’s having a fit.
AND THOR IS RIGHT.
How dare you doubt Thor!
Dane immediately calms down once he has the blade in his hand. So he’s able to explain to the Avengers (who at least knew that the Ebony Blade was extremely cursed) that despite not being the one who did the deed, the curse is upon him as the owner of the sword.
And the first part of the curse is that he feels like his blood is on fire if he’s not holding the extremely cursed sword.
So, that’s going to be a little awkward. Carrying it around everywhere. At least he’s shown in the past that he can magically summon the sword to his hand. Buuut I’m pretty sure the pain of not holding it is so severe that he can’t focus to do that. He couldn’t even focus to pull it from its scabbard at his waist.
Yeah, this is going to suck. You should just go ahead and get one of those locking gauntlets or tie your hand to the hilt. Otherwise, you’re just asking for it to get knocked from your hand to incapacitate you during fights.
Now that he’s not writhing in pain, Black Knight remembers that Monica is missing.
She-Hulk proclaims that Monica has got to be alive! And they really have no reason to jump to the assumption that she’s dead.
Dr Druid, proving himself the worst, thinks to himself: “And good riddance, if she’s not [alive], She-Hulk. Captain Marvel was too soft to have been an effective leader of the Avengers. And her departure from the active ranks couldn’t have been more timely for me.”
I hate you, you fuckboy.
Anyway, Druid proclaims he’s laying in a course so She-Hulk interrupts to insist that they not leave until they find Monica.
Dr Druid: “Please, Jennifer. Don’t let your emotions run away with you. I was about to say I’ve already laid in search pattern coordinates... and calibrated our instruments for a total electromagnetic spectrum and radiation scan. If there’s... anything left of her to find, we’ll find it.”
This reminds me when that future Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, was on the Avengers as Ms Marvel. When a writer change brought with it disdain for Carol’s feminist roots. So she started taking things people said the wrong way and blowing up at them when really they hadn’t meant it that way at all.
But since Dr Druid is secretly hoping Monica is dead and because he changes his wording from laying out a course to laying out a search pattern, he’s probably just gaslighting She-Hulk.
The Avengers search the Atlantic for hours for a sign of Monica but can’t find anything. With the Quinjet quinfuel running low, She-Hulk finally agrees they’ve done all they could.
Can’t believe Monica is gone forever. And yet Dr Druid is still here for some reason.
Boo.
Back at Hydrobase, She-Hulk and Thor discuss Monica’s disappearance. She-Hulk argues that energy can’t be destroyed so Monica has to be somewhere, right? And Thor don’t know. She just vanished after the big electricity attack.
Meanwhile, Dr Druid excuses himself because, remember, he doesn’t give a fuck and hopes Monica is dead.
Plus, it’s Sex Dream O’Clock.
Dr Druid sits down in an uncomfortable looking chair and immediately feels like someone is calling out to him.
Nebula Kang appears saying she’s the one calling him “for danger threatens at every hand and you are needed.”
Dr Druid goes hey wait you look different from the other sex dream and Nebula realizes, shit, she forgot to turn on the generic blonde filter.
So she does and Dr Druid doesn’t ask follow up questions.
Possibly because Not-Godzilla is attacking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I should contextualize.
That’s actually Destructikon. He’s come to destroy this ancient sex dream civilization.
And only Super Druid can stop him.
Because this crisis has brought out his Real True Power and given him a slightly better costume.
Super Doctor Druid: “Mine is almost the power of a god! And why not? Is Dr Druid not a man gifted above other men? Older? Wiser? Stronger of spirit? Is it any wonder that ultimate power must be mine?”
Destructikon doesn’t go down in just one punch. And starts smashing up the city.
Super Dr Druid angrily shouts that Destructikon is threatening his people and smashes the beast in the chin.
Sex dream Nebula Kang tells Dr Druid to wrap this up already.
Pfft.
Like, okay. Jumping ahead a little, this whole thing is playing to Dr Druid’s ego. It’s working like a charm. Just scroll up a little and see his speech about how he’s the best dude of all dudes and deserves to be the best.
Consider how as a newbie to the Avengers, he was already thinking “if I ran the zoo!”
Dr Druid is soooo vulnerable to flattery and Nebula Kang is playing him like a fiddle with this savior of the world scenario.
And no surprise that she feeds him a scenario where its good and right to kill a giant monster menacing a world considering he’s just been through the Leviathan Marrina stuff. It doesn’t just play to his ego in a general sense, it’s affirming how he acted recently.
But even she can only take so much before going ‘lets move this along.’
So Druid punches Destructikon’s teeth in and then uses the eye beams that he totally has to explode the beast like a parade float.
Super Doctor Druid: “It is over! Virtue has triumphed over evil. Let those who would enslave humanity in bondage tremble. For the vigilance of Dr Druid is unrelenting... and he shall crush the serpent beneath his heel!”
Tumblr media
And after the victory parade, Blonde Nebula Kang waggles her ass at him for him to finally get to the sex part of these ominous power fantasy sex dreams.
I hate this storyline but I do love this extended sequence of Dr Druid turning into Superman and fighting Godzilla. Its so dumb that its great. And the sucker fully buys into the fantasy.
Blonde Nebula Kang tells Dr Druid that he’s now king of whatever place this is because he’s won the right to rule by trial of combat. And suggests not just this world, you’re going to save Earth too and be the big sexy ruler of that planet too.
Once again, he eagerly buys into this.
Dr Druid: “Finally I understand. This is the realm of precognition and I have been granted foreknowledge denied lesser men. You’re right. It is time for Dr Druid to step forward.”
He’s so dumb.
Later, at Hydrobase, She-Hulk bemoans what has happened to the team.
Marrina is dead. Namor is off somewhere chasing monster babies. Captain Marvel is missing. And Black Knight is super cursed.
With bad fashion.
Tumblr media
Also with curses.
Holding the Ebony Blade stops Dane from feeling all the cursed agony but his body is slowly paralyzing.
To work around this, he’s built an exoskeleton he can wear over his armor.
It looks bad.
The light purple of whatever its made of messes up his color palette and hides his tunic or whatever with his crest. It looks baaaaaaaaad.
Why not build an exoskeleton that can fit under his armor so he doesn’t look so bad?
His armor is fused to his body and can’t be taken off.
Truly, this is a lot of curse.
Also, the curse gives him a bad attitude.
When She-Hulk suggests calling reserve members since they’re down to four people, Black Knight explodes in a torrent of insults at everyone who isn’t him.
Black Knight: “The Waspis no brain surgeon, Hercules was an airhead, Mantis became a cosmic valley girl, the Black Widow was always a waste... Starfox a mincing fop, and the rest of them weren’t worth a tinker’s dam! Not a decent warrior among the lot! Would Good King Richard have countenanced such wastrels in his legions? Aargh!”
How dare you speak ill of the Wasp!
Go to your room and think about what you’ve done!
(Oh, and he’s back to thinking he’s from Crusade times. Except now its explicitly something happening because the curse is fucking his brain, and not because Simonson didn’t get the character.)
The curse also apparently gives Black Knight A SIXTH SENSE OOOOooooOoooOOO spooky. Because he senses an intruder in the building when none of the security systems do.
This curse sure does a lot.
But Black Knight is insistent that there’s an intruder so the Avengers decide to form a search party and go room by room.
(Also, Jarvis is here. He delivers the exposition about Black Knight being fused to his armor. He doesn’t do a lot else so I wanted to just say Hi Jarvis! I appreciate you!)
It doesn’t take long before the Avengers find the “intruder” that Black Knight sensed.
A plume of energy erupts from the floor and forms into the shape of... Captain Marvel!
Hi Monica! I appreciate you!
Tumblr media
But she’s not looking food. She looks emaciated and is at death’s door from exhaustion.
What could have happened to her??
Bad writing? Web MD says these are the symptoms of bad writing!
The Avengers call the hospital and Thor personally flies her there. Very alarmed that she feels lighter than a feather in his arms.
But have you considered Thor that your arms are massive? You’re really strong. Maybe that’s why she feels so light?
But now we look into the Kang subplot.
Nebula Kang is preparing to ditch.
She changes out of her Kang armor and into a casual outfit. Casual but just loaded with cleverly hidden technology. Perfect for the modern terrible lady on the go.
Nebula Kang: “Farewell, Kangs great and small. You may all be masters of temporality, able to travel at will through and across time without limit... But your collective times are running out! When next we meet... it shall be without compassion, without compromise, without facemasks!”
Her only regret is that she didn’t find the time to give Fred Kang a fuck but doesn’t think he has any information or technology that would be helpful to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then she disguises herself as Blonde Sex Dream Lady again and gets in the warp hatch.
Where she selects the Far Out option.
... That seems way too whimsical to be Kang technology. They all hate whimsy.
But as she warps, Fred Kang (Kang-123488.23497) is spying on her. He didn’t trust the way she flirted with him so he watched her change clothes and go to use the warp hatch.
He’s very confused that she’s going to Earth and specifically the Earth of his own time stream. (Fred Kang is from the current Avengers time stream? Huh. But she specifically goes to the current day and to Hydrobase.
But while Fred Kang has been spying on Nebula Kang, Beard Kang and Yellow Mask Kang have been spying on him.
TOO MANY KANGS!
Beard Kang is apparently called Lord Kang and Yellow Mask Kang is apparently called Kang Cobra but we’ll see if I use those names instead of Beard Kang and Yellow Mask Kang.
Beard Kang has a beard and its coming out of his mask somehow. Why wouldn’t I call him Beard Kang?
Anyway, Beard Kang and Yellow Mask Kang have been spying on Fred Kang, as the newest Kang in their Kangllective. I can’t believe they went with the name Council of Cross-Time Kangs when Kangllective was right there. They could do Kangllective Action.
Anyway again. Fred Kang seemed like any other Kang, except for taking a shorter time to adjust than usual. But when Yellow Mask Kang was spying on him, he became unable to pinpoint Fred Kang’s actual physical location because Fred Kang is “jumping randomly back and forth through nanoseconds of time.”
Y’know, as ya do.
But the result is, Yellow Mask Kang isn’t able to figure out what Fred Kang is up to.
Beard Kang decides that its time to have a talk with their new pal Fred Kang.
Meanwhile, AT THE ACTUAL PLOT,She-Hulk and Grumpy Black Knight have gone to pick up Monica’s parents to take them to the hospital.
Did Monica ever mention that her parents were in on the secret? Because this would be really presumptive if she didn’t.
She-Hulk gives the explanation for what happened with Monica, giving the poor woman one last kick while she’s down.
As I said last East Coast Avengers post, when Captain Monica tried to electrocute Leviathan Marrina the same way Thor did, Monica fucked up because god forbid she do anything right ever. She somehow managed to electrify the entire Atlantic Ocean, vaporized trillions of tons of water which will surely do something to the climate, and dissipating her energy so that when she managed to reform she was all emaciated.
IN FAIRNESS, this is following up on an established downside of Monica’s powers. If she overuses them, she loses some of her own mass. This happened when she overexerted herself to knock down the shields of the Sanctuary II.
In unfairness, she did that to help take out an enemy that was willing to and capable of blowing up planets. This recent happening happens because by editorial mandate, she’s a dipshit who can’t even tie her shoes, one imagines.
Sigh.
Thor greets the Rambeaus before they see Monica and tries to set expectations for what kind of shape she’s in.
Tumblr media
Because she looks like she’s terminally ill.
Maria declares Monica should come home with them so they can nurse her back to health. With home cooking.
Monica admits that she’s not capable of Avengersing right now so that’s probably a good idea.
Leading Dr Druid to smoothly butt into this family conversation to insist that a new chairman be selected right now. I mean, they’re all already here, right?
Then he kicks the Rambeaus out of the room so the Avengers can talk shop.
She-Hulk: “For crying out loud, doc.”
For real.
As soon as the concerned parents have been booted from the room, Dr Druid nominates himself.
Why shouldn’t the newest person on the team not lead?
Okay, I’m being very critical. Monica was newish to the team but not the newest. This is not like that.
But as Dr Druid argues:
“The Black Knight is partially incapacitated, Thor has other concerns than just the Avengers... and the SHe-Hulk, with all due respect, fails to project the proper image of leadership while wearing purple leotards.”
... GET HIS ASS JEN.
Fucker in his feetie pajamas thinks he can throw stones about someone’s costume!
I CANNOT believe.
Black Knight chimes in to say that he admires the image She-Hulk projects.
So some people in this room have taste.
Thor privately wonders if any of the people on the team can handle the responsibility of leadership.
And Dr Druid starts panicking when Thor asks Monica her opinion.
Generic Blonde Nebula Kang pops into his thoughts to tell him not to let his dreams be dreams so Dr Druid decides to be like every other Marvel psychic. An invasive asshole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He uses his powers to force Monica to say that Dr Druid would be a wise choice. When a skeptical She-Hulk asks Thor what he thinks, Dr Druid uses his powers again.
I can’t tell if Druid fails or succeeds in this attempt. Thor somewhat suspects that his thoughts are being manipulated and shouts NO! unprompted. And then says that as the most experienced person still on the team, he’d make the best choice. But: he’ll agree with the majority decision.
Democracy! It’s good! When the votes aren’t manipulated!
Dr Druid makes She-Hulk says that he’s the best man for the job. Black Knight seems about to go into one of his Crusades adjacent rants about Dr Druid but a little bit of the ol’ psychic razzle dazzle and Black Knight is instead saying Dr Druid is the best candidate for chairman and in fact, Richard the Lionheart would think he was really cool.
So that’s four votes for Dr Druid and one for Thor.
Thor is suspicious about the way things played out but doesn’t seem willing to call it out.
(I will say that having Druid’s thought bubble merged with the speech balloons is a good way to show psychic manipulation.)
New Chairman of the Avengers Dr Druid arranges for the Rambeaus to be sent back to Atlanta. By public plane, not by Quinjet. Pssh, sure Monica was the former chairwoman but she doesn’t require the Avengers’ personal attention any more!
Tumblr media
Dr Druid: “But the Avengers must prepare themselves for battle! The cosmos reverberates with the approach of unseen foes. Our enemies are gathering and the time is coming when we must face them together as a team. All of us! For the Avengers have a new leader. And the future is going to be much different than anyone expects!”
I wish him a very stub his toe.
Follow @essential-avengers and you too can wish bad occurrences on Dr Druid. Like and reblog and maybe comment. I’m lonely down here in the italics.
I wish the original God of War had a remake
Tumblr media
Now before you immediately click off because you’re one of those gamers (or even movie fans) tired of the laziness that studios have fell too lately please allow me to elaborate.
I do not say this because I want anything grand. I’m not demanding they remake the classic series or even the classic trilogy. What I desire is that original game remade for some polish and love. (the series has an anniversary soon right?)
Sure, I could just find the original and- well, I did! I’m waiting on it in the mail so I can emulate. Despite this I still would like to see it redone for a few reasons.
Tumblr media
Namely World-Building
I’m sure a good reason for many is just gameplay alone. I’ve yet to play it so I can’t chime in on that part of the topic but I do know many say the game has moments that are more annoying that fun. A little rework and polish to rid a player of needless annoyance is always desired.
The reason I personally want to see it remade is from a world stage perspective. The original title was a great enough stand alone work that it spawned this series and since I’m someone who adores simplicity I feel drawn to seeing it.
In the bluntest of terms, I find the grander world that Kratos’ lives in to be a headache. (Let’s list a few)
Tumblr media
Such as the world of GoW being depicted as round in Ascension yet the dev team confirming this world is flat.
Or the nature of the various pantheons inhabiting this shared flat world despite the two pantheons we’ve seen so far having vastly different, yet both accurate, origins to that world.
How can Midgard be made of Ymir’s corpse when the world was supposedly born of the Greek primordial gods killing each other in a war of mutual destruction?
Was Odin just blowing smoke up his own ass? How much of Greece, Midgard, the other realms, and even confirmed countries like Egypt is made from Chaos or Ymir?
How can the death of the gods in Greece be so grander to the desolation of that nation compared to the deaths of the Aesir in Midgard? So far the only life that seemed to drastically alter Midgard’s environment was Atreus when he was on deaths door in GoW 2018.
Who cursed Kratos to be an undying demigod?
What is the higher plane that Athena ascended too and what is the rift in Odin’s basement? (yes I’ve seen the theories on both being based in gnosticism)
How many timelines has Kratos and Jormungandr created between Kratos killing the Fates and the splinter in Yggdrasil?
If lands are connected as one world then why would Greece “dying” render Kratos of all his magics when the world as a whole seems as alive as always?
How can death exist in Greece or any land with Thanatos slain by Kratos? How does one even kill death?
The sheer level of damage Kratos had done in the various prequels and intermission games. I find it hard to believe the other gods, let alone Zeus, let Kratos be when he was going around sinking Atlantis among other bits of collateral.
There’s a slew of questions and I’m sure long time fans can both answer some of these, add more, or offer decent theories to wipe them away.
Others may just argue “it’s about the characters” and ignore this and, ya know what, that’s fair. I agree.
Tumblr media
No, seriously, some would argue this but God of War is fundamentally character focused. To ignore the inconsistencies is a valid approach with this having even more validity in the classic series due to it’s action game nature.
Sure, classic Kratos can be stoic and one-note but he is not without character. Everything he did was due to his families death. He wasn’t a good man, not a faithful husband, but he did truly love them. By Greek/Spartan standards he may have even been a great father too his daughter.
He only gets more stereotype as the series progresses because he’s meant too. IRL he was known as the angry god killer man but in-story his rage was constantly building. Any semblances of trust or attachment was answered with betrayal or tragedy.
For him to be screaming “ZEUSSSSSSSSSSSSS” for most of GoW 3 is a logical evolution in my mind. Not sure about the hope angle or Pandora but that’s an argument for a long time fan to make.
God of War, classic God of War, is a greek tragedy through and through. It’s not as deep as 2018 but Kratos’ character does reflect change. Even if it’s a villainous change.
I’m not trying excuse his actions nor is those titles nor is Kratos himself years later. He was an vengeful rage fueled god and his guilt for that is one reason his story in the Norse world works so well.
Tumblr media
Getting back on Point
Sorry for the tangent, point is that I get it. However, I’m a being bothered by things in world building. I got into this series backwards with 2018 having only played GoW 2 once in high school. I’m not going to ask for a whole rework or remake series when the Norse titles have done so well building off Kratos past.
I want a God of War remake because I believe it’d be a fun title but I also think Kratos’ world works best within the confines of one mythology. There’s not as many holes in the stage and it’d make a great stand alone title. An entry point for some.
From my understanding, the original title had two endings. A stand alone ending and one suggesting a sequel. You could keep those, the original stand alone ending and another showing what’s to come. You could add costumes and weapons from the series as a whole. Maybe add other things that I wont even know of being a newer fan.
Tumblr media
Possible Hot-take (I guess?)
Most importantly, and by far the most personal aspect for me, I think it’s more impressive if Kratos is just a mortal that slew a god. I’m not sure if Kratos being Zeus’ son was present during GoW 1 or if that was a plot made for GoW 2 and built upon but I actually find it a bit weak compared to what was presented in the first game.
The Norse titles did a damn good job of using that history of patricide as fuel for Kratos’ growth as a person but I still (and I do stress “personally) think it is less impressive. (especially when he canonically slew several immortals prior to GoW 1)
GoW 1 focus’ strongly on the fact that gods are immortal. Kratos rising up to kill the god that wronged him is more impressive, if not world shaking, to Greece if he’s just a mortal. Not a son of Zeus or any god but a man. One that, albeit with aid, managed to stand up to a god and kill that god.
A damn good spartan, a god-made monster/weapon forged with the intentions of battle Olympus but still mortal all the same. That’s what stuck out to me most when seeing GoW 1′s story.
That’s one reason I’d love to see GoW 1 remade with minimal story change. You could take it or leave it, play it and try the rest of the series or just stick with this one entry, overall I think it’d be a fun game if remade.
Anyway, bye now~
================================================
P.S. those images are taken from a fan project of a God of War remake in case you’re wondering....I also realize that last section would’ve made a better separate post but oh well.
P.S.S.S I have just finished God of War 2005 and I used a cheat to take a peak at the treasures. Seems like Kratos being Zeus’ son has been an idea from the get go.
I still feel it’s a bit weaker compared to a regular mortal toppling a god but I won’t hold that as strongly now that I know.
8 TV Shows to Get Know Me
Thank you so much for the tag, @starwalkersdream!!! 💙💙💙
Let's see...
1. Tiger & Bunny - current obsession (as in, nearly 2 years on now and still going strong), an amazing mixture of genres that hits the spot incredibly well for me, contains my utmost Blorbos Nathan and Keith and OTP FireSky, but pretty much every single character is absolutely fantastic and will at some point surprise you.
2. Yuri!!! On Ice - my favorite, my comfort watch, a watershed in my anime history, possibly the best soundtrack of any show I know, amazing characters, figure skating, and an actual plot twist?!? Amazing.
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation - I grew up with it and I think it shaped a lot of my views on morality, ethics and what it means to be human (Data, my beloved, my first Blorbo, decades before the word Blorbo was a thing 🥹).
5. The X-Files - You can't see this show at 13 and not receive some kind of brainrot, lol. Mostly it was related to madly shipping Mulder and Sully before I could even fully realize how freaking WILD they were being about each other; but there's also something to be said about spending your teenage years waiting for the reveal of THE TRUTH THAT WAS OUT THERE, only to then realize absolutely no one EVER had any idea where they were going with the mythology of the show in the first place.
5. Sailor Moon - You can't see Haruka Tenou at 13 and end up straight.
6. Supernatural - but for all that is holy, don't actually watch it. Just know that I did, all the way through, from when it first started airing in 2005 to when it ended (?) in absolute MADNESS in November 2020, and I received about 372639446827483 d10s of psychic damage from it.
7. Stargate Atlantis - Look at John Sheppard. Examine his amazing technicolor allergy to even the most minute and remote trace of emotional communication. Know that I had a MASSIVE crush on him. Realize why my long term relationship did not end well.
8. Anime Sanjushi - Okay, maybe three other people have ever even heard of this one (like, on Tumblr as a whole), but the way it made Dumas's novel so cool and easily palatable to little kid me, with a great mix of action and humor and nice feelings, and most of all giving me the absolute gift of that version of Aramis is just... Chef's kiss. Another deep childhood influence on me.
I've already tagged people in stuff today, and I don't want to spam anyone's notifications, so: if you see this and want to play, consider yourself tagged! 💙💙💙
(spoilers of u haven't done the newest quest line)
(also sorry I haven't sent an ask in so long, I haven't played nms for a bit lol)
I'm really loving all the lore we got! those big Atlantis probe things from the expedition still show up in space, one pretty much outright stated that the probes are actually ancient escape pods from the destruction of korvax prime. And the korvax were in there for so long atlantideum began to grow out of their bodies, creating a structure similar to the ones you mine sentience echoes from!
Also unrelated theory, but I think if the first spawn won they might've destroyed the universe accidentally. They think the universe is not a simulation and is knowable. This combined with their greed and probable lack of environmental concern, means they probably would grab any gravitino balls they can, and with no sentinels around to drive them off and mend the wound in spacetime, the damage would pile up and the simulation would break.
HIII took me long enough to answer your ask, I apologize. I’m free now so let’s get to it!
It’s going to take a while for me to do the autophage quest myself since i actually haven’t finished the artemis path yet (but at this point i do know already it inside out). However i did watch playthroughs and i also made a decent transcript of the quest. And YOU BET i have some thoughts about this. Especially on atlantideum.
i. ATLANTIDEUM
Tumblr media
(from world of glass lore archive server)
When you reveal atlantideum to the atlas something very interesting happens. From this piece of lore i’m pretty sure atlantideum is corrupted data- OF THE ABYSS. And the atlas does not react well to this data at all.
ATLANTIDeum. Are you seeing this. It’s literally like parts of the abyss. Call it abyss dust.
I think atlantideum are crystals which contain her (corrupted) data, or in any case you bet it’s related to wog. They’re probably coming straight from the world of glass, seeping into the simulations. These crystals are scattered all over the place, and lore-wise they’re probably multiplying on a pretty concerning rate at the moment. I think this is how the abyss is returning, by hauling her data back into the world. The world of glass is assimilating with the simulations if you will! She’s only able to do this because the atlas is literally falling apart as she proceeds with her girlboss plan. The atlas is weakening while she is growing stronger (she’s probably weakening the atlas too in the proces). They’re probably fighting for control over the systems, and she is definitely going for absolute power. You’re gonna need that if you want to save everything dying along with the computer that runs reality.
The atlas can’t do anything about the crystals (or data), because it does not have access to this data and cannot delete it from its systems. The abyss seems to be an entity acting separately from the system or the atlas, so you can say she is interfering with the simulations like a foreign entity. She is a subroutine of the atlas though, which has now gone rogue (see iii. FIRST SPAWN ACCIDENTAL UNIVERSE DESTRUCTION).
Tumblr media
Thorn summed this up ON POINT. Being atlas… is suffering.
While the atlantideum hit made the atlas have an asthmatic attack, someone else smoked it up like nipnip. Nada took the abyss blunt very well.
Tumblr media
The atlantideum gave nada data of the abyss, to me this is like injecting memories into your mind. Now we know that nada canonically likes smoking atlantideum! While the atlas is pro war on drugs. The traveller can become nada’s abyss blunt dealer.
ii. KORVAX ESCAPE POD
“And the korvax were in there for so long atlantideum began to grow out of their bodies, creating a structure similar to the ones you mine sentience echoes from!”
Sadly i don’t have that particular dialogue you mentioned about the korvax escape pod so i might miss a few details. I want to read it so if anyone finds it SEND IT TO ME STAT i need my lore like how nada needs their blunt.
The atlantideum item description reads:
Tumblr media
Atlantideum can take over hosts, both mechanical and biological. I see this as the hosts coming under influence or under control of the abyss, probably depending on the amount of crystals they have stuck in their skin.
Finally we have a bit of clarification for the following lines:
Tumblr media
(from the abandoned building logs)
I believe these beings to be the family glass. Sadly they never went beyond name dropping them but that doesn’t stop me from having theories. They are beings that live on in the world of glass who have probably lived in the simulations at first (before they died).
We have know seen the effects of glass/atlantideum on both mechanical and biological beings. For mechanical beings (like nada and the atlas) simply coming into close contact with the crystals is already enough to have an effect, while for biological beings they have to literally shove the shards into their flesh. Just like piercings. Except these piercings drain your life and also may or may not keep hurting forever. However in the end it’s all worth it for the eldritch knowledge.
It’s not said whether these crystals are really atlantideum (crystals containing data of the abyss specifically?), but this is probably what happens when you put it under your skin while also being biological. you get a cool piercing, AND you also become a vessel for intelligences unlike us (void milves).
The abyss can exert influence/control through not only nanites (in the water), but through atlantideum too? Well it is a literal substance named after her. The korvax in the escape pod definitely came under her influence too and became divergent by extension. She is pretty much the divergence personified. As for how the atlantideum got there, i’m thinking the abyss messed a little with the nanites in their body? I mean she is a master nanite bender, arguably the best one the simulations have ever seen. Not everyone can infest half the water in the known multiverse with nanites every day like she does casually.
The abyss does a lot of polluting, in water it’s nanites, on land it’s atlantideum crystals. She really just decided that environmental pollution is the best way to spread her presence everywhere. And you cannot deny that she is completely right since it’s working that well. This is like spreading microplastics which have the power to change reality itself.
In game you can refine atlantideum into nanites, by first refining it into pugneum and then to nanites. So nanites and atlantideum are pretty closely related.
iii. FIRST SPAWN ACCIDENTAL UNIVERSE DESTRUCTION
“Also unrelated theory, but I think if the first spawn won they might've destroyed the universe accidentally. They think the universe is not a simulation and is knowable. This combined with their greed and probable lack of environmental concern, means they probably would grab any gravitino balls they can, and with no sentinels around to drive them off and mend the wound in spacetime, the damage would pile up and the simulation would break.”
Oh man i have something for you.
Tumblr media
(boundary failure logs)
The first spawn exploited a whole subroutine (ie the convergence) for their personal interests- on a multiversal scale. Since a subroutine is like a working part of the atlas itself, the exploitation might’ve done some damage to the system in terms of software (?) i mean can you still carry out whatever tasks you should be doing properly if you were subjected to gruesome slavery across the multiverse. you’d need godly multitasking skills for this. Not sure to what extent it really affected the system, but it would have done at least something.
Telamon did say that the entire enslavement of the korvax is a reflection of the atlas breaking down. The convergence, being modeled after earlier forms of the atlas, is kind of the atlas personified in the simulations. Now when you’re enslaved, you do break down mentally and physically. The korvax suffered because the atlas itself was suffering. And the first spawn might’ve been a reflection of the harm the atlas was facing. In the end the first spawn was genetically engineered into the gek, not completely wiped out but “mitigated” using their nanites. this could apply to the harm too, it’ll never be removed, only lessened. I find it very interesting how the korvax polluting the gek spawning pools with nanites is very much parallel with the abyss infesting the water with nanites as well. Both do this to get out of hard times, by trying to lessen the harm but never able to remove it completely. This does seems to be what the atlas is doing to try saving itself. The repeated universe resets are also a reflection in the simulations except it is more meta.
Now onto the balls!
Tumblr media
If the first spawn did start grabbing gravitino balls left and right without a single care unchecked, then that means the atlas is. royally fucked. I’d say then it’s literally not able to keep running simulations anymore. Like they would end prematurely because it’d crash halfway through, as reflected by the reality weakening from unrestrained gravitino ball harvesting once they get to that part in history. whatever horrors the atlas is facing at the moment isn’t enough for this to happen. Recovering from brutal enslavement does sound better than the whole simulation straight up crashing down. You could always have it worse! Sparkle on!
#i have not been engaging with nms for a while and now once the fall break had just hit. the steam engine has started running hot again#while writing this i swear i just came up with two other theories barely related to the subject#1. every time you go through portals you die temporarily as you pass through wog. because when you're in wog that means you're dead!#it's the literal hell and heaven of nms#artemis however died permanently since they did not get out at the other side. their pathway collapsed and left them stranded.#2. in wog you can live on in death. i think this is the goal of the abyss by trying to bring wog into the simulations#or the other way around#(IF THAT'S WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ONNNNN. i believe in it though :33333)#also wog stands for world of glass just in case#like there's this line that says we will not die a second time which is probably referencing atlas' death that spells doom for everyone#well guess what#when you are in wog you are dead. and you cannot die again. not for a second time#for the longest time this line was completely beyond me man i think i have figured this out#it is pretty poetic. you can live on in death#a very hard pill for null to swallow. being able to accept this would've made a big difference in their life#also the atlas canonically has a sister now. telamon too#one enforced obligatory multiversal babysitting million on another#now the sister wishes to take over all of you and your simulations#by taking advantage of you literally dying#you cannot stop her and it might actually be the better choice to surrender#and she is your LITTLE sister. SHE IS AN EARLIER VERSION OF YOURSELF.#this is like being bested by your 9 year old self#siblinghood is so beautiful#no man's sky#nms lore#nms atlas#nms abyss#asks
Who Am I Really?
Chapter 9
Fandom: Aquaman
Pairing: Ormxfemale!Reader
Warnings: none
Summary: YN comes up with a plan with the help of Superman
Tumblr media
YN got tea ready while the three men sat around the small table, all eyeing each other. None of them really knew what she was going to say as she set the table, pouring them drinks. Arthur was anxious.
"Ok, enough stalling, what plan do you have?" he asked. YN smiled, taking a sip. She looked very pleased with herself.
"If Arthur and Superman are willing, I would like to trick the Atlanteans," she said. They all looked confused. Then it dawned on Orm.
"Superman took three Atlanteans to a mountain range across the sea, with ease," he said. She nodded. "If we can convince the council that I am being held on the surface under the eye of Superman because you, Arthur, felt I was too dangerous to leave in Atlantis or even in the deserter prison, then they will leave me be." Arthur looked baffled by the idea.
"Are you crazy?" he asked. "Artrax was just here, he will tell the council all of this is bullshit and we will be had." YN smiled again.
"Not if you go back to Atlantis right now and tell them what happened. Say you found Orm and you were going to apprehend him with help from your Justice League ally, however, Artrax arrived and threatened you. If they don't believe you then bring them here. I have a perfect room in the shelter to act as a cell for Orm. We put the biters in there," she said. Arthur made a face.
"O God, please don't say he's a biter next I may vomit," he said. YN turned bright red but just took another sip. Orm smirked.
"Next time I'll try it," he said and Arthur gagged. Superman just looked uncomfortable at the moment. "Anyway, are you willing to do this?" Orm said, turning to the Kryptonian. Superman looked at them all before focusing in on YN.
"We need to talk first, just us," he said. Arthur stood and motioned for Orm to follow him. Once they were out the door Superman moved to sit next to her. "Are you safe?" he asked.
"I'm fine Clark," she said. "Orm is not a crazed villain. He did some things years ago that Arthur handled and he is rehabbing right now, trying to figure out how he fits in the world." Clark nodded. "But, Atlantis can't find out that he is out and about. They had him in a cell in the desert, that's torture to someone who literally lives in the ocean, I won't let him go back there. But I can't just drop off and leave here either, these animals depend on me, and now on him." Clark stared at her and then nodded.
"You love him," he said finally and she nodded. "His heartbeat goes a mile a minute when he looks at you, I think the feeling is mutual." She smiled at him, blushing. "Just call out whenever you need me to come back for guard duty, I'll be here." She nodded and followed him outside. He bid goodbye to Arthur and Orm and flew off.
"I still think that's terrifying," Arthur muttered. Orm cocked his head to the side.
"I think I'd like to fly, see the ocean from the sky," he said. YN smiled at him.
"Wait until I get you on an airplane," she said. He smiled at her. "Now Arthur, get back to Atlantis." Arthur waved, grabbing the bodies of the fallen Atlantean soldiers, and headed back to Atlantis. Orm put his arm around YN and kissed her head. "I hope he gets back in time and that they council believe him."
"Well, Artrax isn't part of the council, he is just a noble, Arthur's word should carry more weight with them. He also has the bodies to show Artrax's willingness to kill anyone who gets in his way," he said. "We have to hope that he doesn't have anything that could damage Arthur's integrity."
Arthur arrived back in Atlantis, calling an emergency meeting of the council. He found out that Artrax had not returned yet and he laid out the lie he had concocted on the swim there. He told the council that Artrax had been right, Orm was alive in that small town. Arthur had, of course, immediately went to apprehend Orm to bring him in, but Artrax had arrived. Arthur had bruising on the side of his head where the energy weapon had been pressed so he showed the royal physcian his head, explaing that Artrax had threatened both he and the surface dweller that had been trying to help him capture Orm, had sent soldiers after her, and then had killed two other soldiers who had stood against him. He was enacting treason and the dead soldiers had stood against him. They council asked how Arthur had finally captured Orm. He explained that he had called in Superman, the most powerful member of the Justice League to capture and keep watch over him while Arthur handled the issue of Artrax in Atlantis. He demanded that Artrax be brought before him as soon as he arrived to answer for these crimes. The council discussed quickly and agreed, they wanted to hear his explanation.
About an hour later and Artrax, along with the two soldiers still alive, were brought to the throne room. Arthur had made sure to dress the part of king, Mera and Atlanna by his side. Artrax looked more annoyed than concerned. He demanded to know what this farce was about, yelling about finding Orm and bringing him to justice. That Arthur was helping him. Arthur kept a straight face but was smiling inside. The noble sounded insane.
"Artrax, you have been charged with treason against the king, how do you answer these charges?" Arthur asked, voice booming over the room. Artrax stared, shocked.
"How dare you! You are in league with the disgraced king!" Artrax argued, fighting against guards, trying to get to Arthur. Artrax had been hanging by a string after being flown off to a mountain in the middle of nowhere. His soldiers were quick to flip on him when it was mentioned that they would be spared death if they confessed the truth. They spilled everything about Artrax's plan to kill Orm and if anyone tried to stop him or got in his way then he would kill them. The council saw everything, heard all of it, and immediately called for the containment of Artrax and for a contingent of soldiers to verify Orm was contained.
"Once I know Artrax is in a cell I will take you to him," Arthur said. They guards took the noble and his men to the cells and Arthur sent Mera ahead to make sure that YN and Superman were ready.
A loose list of some stuff I’ve been watching:
Super J-Cup 1994- fantastic one night tournament with a who’s who of the era’s junior heavyweights. This was my first exposure to a couple of guys I’d love to see more of, Shinjiro Otani, Negro Casas and Great Sasuke. Aside from the obvious take away that Pegasus/Sasuke was great, my main take away was that I should watch more Super Delfin. Both of his matches were so fun to watch and left me wanting more
Fantastica Mania 2024- a good showcase of probably the best promotion going consistency wise. The 2 matches I’d say go out of your way for are the Atlantis jr/Hechicero match and Stuka jr/ Máscara Dorada
Shota Umino vs Ren Narita, New Beginning 2024- slog, disappointing and did not need the length it has. Admittedly I watched this hoping to see the technical prowess I’ve heard Narita has, so I wasn’t in the headspace for a brawl. But upon rewatching it on its terms I still found it boring.
Katsuyori Shibata vs Kazuchika Okada, Sakura Genesis 2017- yea, still fucks. I actually never knew this was the match Shibata got brain damage which is extra wild because that means he has one of the greatest matches of the decade while his brain was literally dying. Also I can’t not mention how good Okada is at getting bitched out by someone on his level, that exchange at the start where Shibata ties him in knots and you can see the growing “oh I’m in trouble” look on Kaz’s face. Can’t recommend enough
