10 More Character Types the World Needs More of
Part 1 was specifically character dynamics, but I’m considering this a sequel anyway.
1. Fiercely independent character’s lesson isn’t to “trust people”
I’m not projecting. You’re projecting. There is a divide wide enough to fit the Grand Canyon between “trusting that someone isn’t lying” and “trusting someone to follow through on a promise”. Most dumpster fire attempts at these characters (almost exclusively women) rely solely on mocking them for the former because “not all men” or something.
Being consistently let down in life makes you hesitant to a) gain friends, b) pursue romantic interests, c) maintain familial relationships, d) get excited about any event that demands participation from someone who isn’t you. None of this is simply a bad attitude—it’s a trauma response. There is no lesson to be learned, and not even exposure therapy can help because it’s a real, legitimate, and common stunt people pull, whether they mean it or not.
So write one of these characters and legitimize their fears, give them someone who proves the exception to the rule, but do not let the lesson be “well they just haven’t found the right person yet”. Even the “right person” can let them down. It's about not becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy by sabotaging a good thing to prove it will inevitably go bad.
2. Conventionally attractive men who aren’t horndogs
I’m going to find every way I can to tell you to write more aces. This is to fight the stigma that attractive people must be attracted to people. Give me gorgeous aces and demi’s, men, women, enbys and everyone in between, who put a crap ton of effort into looking their best, and yet happen to not have a very loud libido. They look good for themselves, and not to impress anyone else.
Give me someone who could have anyone they wanted, gender regardless, and just simply has no interest. Or, they do actually have a significant other, but sex, how hot their partner is, or how horny they are, isn’t their internal monologue. I don’t even care if it’s unrealistic, it’s annoying to read.
And, you know, giving men male characters who aren’t thinking about sex all the time can be good, right? Right?
3. Manly warrior men who also write poetry
A.K.A Aragorn, Son of Arathorn. Just give me more Aragorns, period. This dude is either covered in filth, blood, guts, and the last 30 miles of rugged terrain, or singing in Elvish at his own coronation while pink flower petals fall. A man can be both, and still be straight.
A man can also drink Respect Women juice, you know? He ticks off all the boxes—he’s gentle when he needs to be, not afraid to hide his emotions, kind to those who are vulnerable and afraid and need a strong figure to look up to, resolute in his beliefs, skilled and knowledgeable in his abilities without being arrogant or smug, and the first boots on the battlefield, leading from the front.
4. Characters who are characters when no one is watching
This is less a specific type and more a scene that doesn’t get written enough. This whole point comes from Pixar’s Cars. I. Love. This. Movie. It’s not Pixar’s best, for sure, but this is my comfort movie. The best scene, one that’s so unique, is when Doc (aged living legend) thinks he’s alone when he rolls out onto the dirt race track and comes alive tearing around the oval.
This character’s unbridled, unabashed glee and euphoria at proving to himself that he’s still got it, when he’s completely unaware of his audience, is perfection. Not enough credence is given to characters to just… enjoy being themselves. He’s not doing it to prepare for the climactic race, he’s not doing it for the plot, he’s doing it just to do it, not even to prove Lightning wrong—just for himself.
Give your characters a “Doc Racing” scene. Whatever their skill is. Maybe they’re a dancer, a skater, a swimmer, a painter, sprinter. Just let your character love being alive.
5. Characters whose neurodivergence isn't “cute”
A.K.A. Lilo Pelekai from Lilo and Stitch. Really, her relationship with Nani is peak sibling writing. But Lilo herself is just so realistic with how she interacts with the world, how she interprets her relationships with her so-called friends, how she organizes her thoughts and rationalizes what she can’t quite understand, and how friggen smart she is for an… 11-year-old?
But she’s not “cute”. As in, she wasn’t written by generic Suits who were trying to cash in on the ND crowd by writing what they think will sell, but also making her juuust neurotypical enough to still be palatable by the rest of the audience. Lilo’s earnestness is what endears her to everybody. But also, she doesn’t get a free pass for her behavior, either. Her “friends” aren’t forced to accommodate her and Nani isn’t written as the cold-hearted villain for trying to discipline her.
6. Straight male characters with female friends
Am I double-dipping a bit here? Yes. While I completely understand how tempting it can be, this type of character is in dire need of exposure and representation to prove it’s possible. No weird tense moments, no double-glances when she isn’t looking, no contemplations about cheating on his girlfriend (and no insecure jealous girlfriend either). Just two characters who enjoy each other’s company and are able to coexist in a space and be in each other’s spaces without hormones getting in the way. Peak example? Po and Tigress from Kung Fu Panda.
Let these two rely on each other for emotional strength in times of need, let them share inside jokes, let them have a night alone together at a bar, at home, cooking dinner, getting takeout, talking on the patio in a porch swing… with zero “will they/won’t they.”
7. The likable bigot
I’m actually on the fence with this one but it’s something I also don’t see done often enough and I’m adding it for one reason: Bigots aren’t always obvious mustache-twirling villains and the little things they do might seem inconsequential to them, but are still hurtful. So showing these characters is like plopping a mirror down in front of these people and, I don’t know, maybe something will click. They don’t have to be MAGAs to be dangerous, and only writing the extremes convinces the moderates that they aren’t also the problem.
Example: I have a “friend” who recently said something along the lines of “I have lots of gay friends” followed up shortly by “I don’t think this country should keep gay marriage because it’s a slippery slope to legalizing pedophilia.” You know. The quiet part being that she *actually* thinks being gay is as morally abhorrent as being a pedo. But she totally has lots of gay friends. Including one who was driving her during that conversation. (It’s me. Hi. I’m apparently the problem, it’s me.)
She’s absolutely homophobic, but the second she stops announcing it, she’s a very bubbly person. She’s a ~likable~ bigot and thus thinks she can distance herself from the more violent ones.
8. The motherly single father
I say “motherly” merely as shorthand for the vibe I’m going for here. “Motherly” as in dads who aren’t scandalized by the growing pains of their daughters, and who don’t just parent their sons by saying “man up boys don’t cry”. Dads who play Barbie with their kids of either gender. Dads who go to the PTA meetings with all the other Karens and know as much if not more than they do about the school and their kids’ education.
Dads who comfort their crying kids, especially their sons. Dads that take interest in “feminine” activities like learning how to braid their daughter’s hair, learning different makeup brands, going on nail salon trips together. Dads who do not pull out the rifle on their daughter’s new boyfriend and treat her like property. Dads who have guy friends that don’t mock him and call him gay. Dad who does all this stuff anyway and is *actually* gay, too, but the emphasis is on overly sensitive straight men’s masculinity here.
Wholesome dads: a shocking amount of single-parents to female anime protagonists.
9. The parent isn’t dead, they’re just gone
Treasure Planet is an awesome movie in its own right, but what’s even better? This is a Disney movie where the parent isn’t dead, he’s just a deadbeat who abandoned his son and isn’t at all relevant to the plot beyond the hole he left behind for Jim to fill. The only deadbeat dads Disney allows are villains and those guys are very vigorously chasing an aspiration, that aspiration just doesn’t include quality fatherhood. Or motherhood. Disney has yet to write a deadbeat mom, I’m almost certain.
I just wrote a post about the necessity of the “dead parent” cliche, but what is perhaps more relatable because it’s more common, and what earns even more sympathy and underdog points for the protagonist? The hero with the parent who left. Then there’s a whole extra layer of angst and trauma available when your hero can now plague themselves with the question of if the parent leaving is their fault. Death is usually an accident. Choosing to abandon your kid is on purpose.
10. Victim who isn’t victim-blamed or told by their friends (and the narrative) to forgive their abuser
Izuku Midoriya lost so much support from me the moment he told his friend, bearing the consequences of domestic violence across half his face, that Midoriya thinks he’ll be ready soon to forgive his abomination of a father. I am firmly in the “Endeavor is a despicable human and hero” camp and no I’m not taking criticism. I audibly gasped when I heard this line and realized Deku was serious. Todoroki needs friends like the Gaang to remind him that he's allowed to hate the man who's actions caused the burn scar across his f*cking face.
I understand that the mangaka apparently didn’t anticipate the vitriolic backlash toward Endeavor during his debut and reveal of his parenting tactics but the tone-deafness of telling a fifteen year old with crippling emotional management issues and a horrible home life that his abusive dad in any way deserves and is entitled to forgiveness on the grounds of being related is disgusting.
Take it back further to a more famous Tumblr dad: John Winchester. Another despicable human who got retroactively forgiven by his sons after his death in a “he wasn’t so bad, he really did try” campaign. It’s one thing if the character believes it, it’s a whole different matter if the narrative is also pushing this message.
Katara is a perfect example: She lets go of her grudge for her own peace of mind and stops blaming Zuko for something he had no hand in, stops blaming him simply because he’s a firebender and he’s around to be her punching bag. She doesn’t forgive the man who killed her mother, because that man doesn’t deserve her forgiveness. Katara heals in spite of him, not because of him, and had she let him off the hook, she would have gotten an apology for getting caught, not for what he did (which is exactly what happened).

final thoughts on the fox fella + new smol cat boi
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I find the most fascinating about Fellow isn't the character himself but rather the fandom reaction to just seeing his design. It was a tsunami of thirst unlike anything I had ever witnessed before. People were switching up oshis entirely, those who had never made a self-insert or yume before were suddenly making ones specifically to be shipped with Fellow, it was WILD. He's a homewrecker/j I support any and all Fellowives out there👍
That being said, I'm surprised that I feel so... lukewarm about him overall????? I'm usually all gung-ho for the smiling scammer types but for some reason Fellow just doesn't resonate with me. I'll admit that he's very good-looking (I love the colors of his suit, the cravat, the colorful patched up pants, and especially the silly little half capelet thing hanging off of him). His expressions are also very fun, with some favorites being his super smug smirk and the knowing, slightly-off kilter smile. However, there's just something about Fellow's personality that doesn't sit with me quite right. I know it's not the "he's a Red Flag!! RUN AWAY NOW!!!" thing either, because I love Love LOVE red flags in fictional characters 😭
Fellow is good at charming people off the cuff and using deceit to compensate for his low magical reserves, which in of itself is intriguing. It’s also admirable that he wants to start his own school for non-mages and low-magic mages to mingle, He’s an adult that still keeps the spirit of childlike wonder alive, and that makes him fun to follow. Those are the traits of his I like.
But I get the vibes that Fellow isn't as clever or as impressive as he likes to think he is...? He's full of himself but can't exactly back up his words with action. That's not meant to be a diss at his magical prowess, he's lacking in other areas as well. Like, he's a fully grown man picking fights with kids because of a personal vendetta... and he’s steering the kids home while the island is sinking and relying on them to rescue them in case anything goes wrong?? That’s just irresponsible. Not to mention he doesn’t seem to plan ahead?? How does he not know he’s kidnapping many famous and/or powerful people with families might come after his ass if they go missing?
I think that it doesn't help that the "pathetic" vibes were being conveyed in a lot of fan art well before the twist; it only adds to his "patheticness" and it gets to a point where it's too much for me and then is no longer appealing. I can get on board with him and gloating and wanting to crush kids’ dreams because same/j but not when he’s panting and wheezing and desperately tackling them for their tickets to tear up. He doesn’t feel like a genuine threat without the support of his backers. I would still say I like the character and will happily rag on him, but I wouldn't bark for him or anything (though I will grant him points for coming close to winning the cage makes it better/j).
What I appreciate about Fellow's character is that it shows us a darker side to Twisted Wonderland. I don't necessarily think his initial motives are that deep (he's after fat stacks), but I think the sentiment behind the motives are. It pulls back the curtain and reveals an ugly truth about his magical world and the roles that money and privilege play in it. We aren't exposed to many instances of this, but they are, in fact, there (like when Yuu was insulted by Riddle in book 1). It's finally getting attention front and center now—I just wish they had gone deeper with it.
What's currently got me invested in following Fellow is his relationship with Gidel. I love that they're a "found family" (they're "sworn brothers") and that Fellow seems to look after Gidel... Telling the NRC boys not to put stupid ideas in Gidel's head, walking off with Gidel at the end, recounting the times they scammed together, putting his arm out in battle to keep Gidel behind him... (or maybe I'm just delusional and want to believe the fan art LOL). I'm such a sucker for the trope of the protective big brother 💀 Unfortunately, we don't get a ton of canon moments in the event... Like damn, not even details on how they first met or how they found this job or why specifically Fellow cares for Gidel??? I don’t like that for all that we’re told about how hard the duo’s past was, we didn’t get to hear a lot of explicit detail about it (especially when it is so inherently important to their conflict with the NRC crew and their turn at the very end). I just gotta pray their eventual card next Halloween will give more insight into this.
He’s a character I like to think about mainly because his background as a failed mage student gives me a lot to chew on in terms of questioning the world’s lore and how their society is structured. Fellow himself is good for a few laughs, but it isn’t long before my mind strays, if that makes sense. I’m not chomping at the bit, but I don’t exactly detest the guy??? I guess you would call it ambivalence; I’m only fixated on certain aspects of him (the looks, the lore he provides, and the onii-sama potential).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't really have much to comment on for Gidel, but I have to say that I like having mute representation and more magicless characters in the cast at large. His outfit is also very fun; I like how it incorporates colors you don't normally see slapped together (that shade of yellow and purple) while still looking cohesive. I keep looking at Gidel's design and seeing a mix of Cheka and Ruggie though (because of the fluffy hair, eye shape, and stature). He very much reminds me of a smol doggo I'd bump into on a walk home and spend ten minutes standing there and considering adopting it.
As I said in my thoughts on Fellow, I think Gidel is at his best when he's in his little brother-big brother dynamic with Fellow. He's just a little guy trying his best while Fellow's trying to lead them. I think that's something the whole fandom can agree on, since I see sooo many people shading Fellow for his actions but the same people squealing and patting Gidel on the head and claiming he has done nothing wrong (despite being complicit in, and actively helping with, the trafficking operation). I guess it's because Gidel is still a child and may not fully understand the implications of it???
It's very sweet and genuine that Gidel demonstrates an interest in going to school and learning—but Fellow, who has been disappointed by the world of magic academia, warns Gidel against it. In his own way, he's keeping Gidel from what he sees as an uppity, shallow realm that will crush his hopes and dreams. That's Fellow's version of "protecting" him. It's a way of telling us about their relationship without outright stating how Fellow feels about Gidel. In return, Gidel also supports him and whacks him a good one when Fellow’s down in the dumps.
I'm sad that we didn't get to see more of their dynamic in the event (like we only see them having a meaningful interaction at the very end), but maybe that's just because the fandom works have set my expectations high. Unfortunately, all those sweet moments of Fellow and Gidel bonding are seemingly confined to just fanart and fanfiction, since very little is mentioned or even implied in the event itself. I'm hoping that (assuming they get a card together next year) we get to see more glimpses of their daily life in the associated vignettes.

Aizawa is the worse teacher since 1-A can’t trust him due to his “logical rises,” he can “expel” you based on his personal standards over UA’s, basically expects his students to solve/fix their own problems or use other students to do it meanwhile can secretly train a student outside his class to replace one of his own current students. (Shinso was completely being trained to replace someone in 1-A you can’t convince me otherwise.)
You know what, putting this under a cut since this is Aizawa critical and I doubt if you're a fan of his you're terribly interested in reading that. Also really hoping this doesn't pop up in his tag since I really don't enjoy posting criticism of a character in their own tag...
It always kinda bugs me about how the kids probably don't trust really trust him as an educator and this is never touched on. I think the thing is that the kids trust him the sense they trust him to keep them alive, but it's kinda illogical that they'd trust him to either be a competent or trustworthy teacher; see the fact he's the one who repeatedly has the most failures between the First Year heroics course isn't really a good sign. Like during first trimester finals only Monoma fails for 1-B, and they all pass the Licensing Exam. We got multiple 1-A students failing finals and during the licensing exam two 1-A students failed, which is not a great look. Hell, Aizawa even acknowledges that between him and Kan, Kan is the better teacher.
I'd actually argue his plan wasn't to expel someone from 1-A and replace them with Shinso. The thing is, during the Joint Simulation arc part of the point of it is to see which of the classes he'd better fit in. Otherwise he wouldn't be on teams with students with both classes. I also suspect UA does in a sense have a certain amount of 'extra' spots in case a Gen Ed student shows enough promise during the Sports Festival or additional mentor-ship with one of the teachers (since I sincerely doubt Aizawa is the first to ever do it). You aren't really guaranteed one of the heroics kids will fuck up to the point they deserve to be replaced, while at the same time a Gen Ed or other track student who's interested in transfer, show they are deserving of a spot.
I also feel it needs to be pointed out if USJ had never happened, he'd probably never have had any interest in training Shinso. Like, we can assume it's very unlikely first of all he's ever actually taught one of the homerooms he's previously been given, and more likely has done a blend of administrative assistant and sub work. In Japan it's incredibly uncommon for homeroom teachers to not be students' homeroom teachers for all three years. Also when we do see what are apparently the Second Years he expelled the year before we get absolutely no hint that after he re-enrolled them he taught them. Actually I'd say, especially with the way the one student commented on it and the rather incredulous looks the others had they probably didn't. We get very little impression that he either likes or really wants to teach (remember, he's not even the one who sent in the job application as we're shown in Vigilantes). So I don't think he'd normally go out his way to privately train someone unless he's had a sort of traumatic moment like USJ. Though. I would also say it's not a great look that he's not giving any outside training to his actual homeroom students, especially in light of how some do seem to be struggling and while you can argue they get additional training at internships, not all of 1-A got internships at first, and only really did during the winter because the HPSC made it a requirement. Which does actually now make me wonder if in theory you can go through all three years without ever doing one in the past, or if it was purely a requirement for Second and Third Years.
But yeah there’s a lot of issues with him as an educator that I really wish the series would at least touch on more.

Going insane because the big fucking lumax elmax parallel elumaxers love to say means romantic elmax [which I hope it does] may very well mean platonic lumax instead?? Or even something else?????
I love platonic and romantic lumax equally, but I truly thought we were getting more romantic lumax next season so I'm VERY confused.
I say "confused" and "might" because there are MULTIPLE possibilities and I am still willing to entertain them all as of yet. If anyone wants to give input or ask questions PLEASE do so, I would very much appreciate! You can reblog or reply, but anons are also on rn :)
---
BASICALLY in Stranger Things One, El leans over Will, who is lying down half-dead and dying on the Upside-Down Castle Byers.
This scene establishes The Lean TM as I will henceforth refer to it.
El is saving him for lots of complicated reasons. She believes that she will be "replaced" afterwards. She wants to make her friends happy. She may believe in a consequence otherwise. And because she of course wants Will to stay alive. Her life so far has sucked ass.
---
Stranger Things Two rolls around. El is looking for Kali. Basically she is attaching herself like a friendly, adorable leech to anything remotely familiar. She wants FAMILY and STABILITY rn. So she goes to her sister, Kali. In this case, Kali is the one conjuring hallucinations. Spider (negative) followed by butterfly (positive) [both have other meanings too but Not The Point]
El says "are you real?". She isn't sure such a thing as a sister who won't betray her could happen in this life!
---
Stranger Things four!!
Max reaches out to El saying "are you real? Did I make you?" Adding the second questing as El is already known to her/she remembers El.
Even pinches her cheek!
This follows several hallucinations caused by Vecna, all bad (one involving Lucas, but Idk if that's relevant yet.)
Max has thus far believed that nothing as good as what she already believes El to be possible anymore, nor that she deserves it.
She definitely believes in Vecna causing yk Bad Shit if the El is fake.
---
The infamous The Lean TM 2.0!!!
Max is all the way fuckin dead. As a doorknob.
Lucas cradles Max, but the FRAMING puts him in the EXACT position as EL is with psychic image of Max, visually.
LEANING.
THEN El resuscitates Max via telekinetic chest compressions fueled by Happy Memory Positive Vibes Energy. She knows Max, *and* she has had a good life for some of it atp.
---
ANYWAYS. Onto some POTENTIAL meanings!
The Lean TM is not inherently romantic OR platonic. El did not even KNOW Will and did not feel anything PERSONALLY about him when she Leaned in ST1.
She EVENTUALLY got to know Will- AFTER The Lean TM. THEN their relationship is platonic.
But initially- sheer desperation. WHO Will was had nothing to do with it. The outside forces, that being (oversimplified) El's desire to SAVE Will. Not any feelings she had towards him.
This then changes for The Lean TM 2.0! El and Lucas KNOW Max! BUT assuming this is about OUTSIDE feelings- desperation had RUN the FUCK OUT- replaced by SHEER FUCKING SHOCK AND TERROR because A) Max is literally DEAD right now and B) fuckin Vecna and the apocalypse
THIS information gives us a few potential meanings:
The Lean TM represents outside feelings. It is a contrast between the relatively more hopeful eyes of a twelve year old, be she alone, than the jaded girl two years later. But she's got friends now. And also The World's Problems still exist. (Dead children equals world problems, alone v w/ friends obvi, and hopeful but desperate v already dead.) Supposed resurrection represents that it is never too late.
The Lean TM represents that those involved will have their relationship to eachother, or their impression of the other, changed in the future. Even THIS could mean a hundred things in its own!!
Siblings-ass pair did it first, another elmax siblings thing, does that make lumax paralleled to siblings??? I am HESITANT AS SHIT about this one because the point of parallels indicating interpersonal relationships is the characters' feelings- and in The Lean TM 1.0, you could hardly call willel "siblings" PLUS it would be weird to make lumax be like a siblings pair atp imo.
In any case, it kind of seems difficult to make this about romo lumax *alone*
---
NOW onto "are you real?"
This is Max saying something that parallels an earlier quote by El.
The funny thing is, Max in Stranger Things Four is actually more similar to Stranger Things FOUR El than to Stranger Things Two El. They both have feelings of guilt right now, and have trouble convincing themselves that they "deserve" friends and family, or for anything good to happen to them.
In Stranger Things Two, El is ACTIVELY SEARCHING for this family rather than avoiding it (though ST4 Max moves into this direction as well, the former is more connected to the nature of Max's Vecna Visions)
It's also totally different from the nature of their relationships, let alone the types!
El at the point of quote one ONCE AGAIN doesn't know Kali at ALL. By the time Max sees El, she is already familiar enough with El to believe that she could conjure her from memory!
Constancy???Hope?????Trust??? El2 was not in any type of immediate danger, unlike Max4.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS COULD POSSIBLY MEAN AND IT IS FUCKING ME UP. WHAT- BESIDES VISIONS AND DOUBTING REALITY- IS THE COMMONALITY HERE???
HI this has been sitting in my drafts for WEEKS and I've still got no FUCKING clue! On the one hand, the LEAN the GODDAMN LEAN makes it seem like it's probably elumax(if it's romo lumax it's probably both, and otherwise there may be a familial implication, but the meaning of that has become more Literal as of late so probably the first things) but then what the absolute FUCK is going on with the other thing?? In the SAME DAMN EPISODE!? And nowI'm reading about the lighting in the episode which makes the "r u real?" Thing even MORE confusing AND JESUS FORKING CHRISTY

Au where Oli is the antagonist in everyone's back story. No we have not met him on the server yet. Yes I have decided he is evil.
He's whatever Sausage is running from. He's a conquerer of dimensions from the end, and Sausage's old home happened to be first on the list from the over world.
He's from the end and also skulk no that doesn't make sense. He spreads it like a hivemind and he can sort of see through it to spy. And it's all over Fwhip, Pix, and Gem's empires. Gem may or may not be getting corrupted by it.
He's the witch that cursed Katherine and Scott as well as one of the witches who sent Shelby to the Evermoore. He's infiltrating this dimension from the inside, which is easily done by getting on the witch council. The witch council doesn't care about morality as long as you're powerful.
Oli is whatever Lizzie is hiding from too, her town of cat people was destroyed by him but he let her go alive, saying no one would accept a cat person anyway. Of course this isn't true, but Lizzie never really traveled so she believes it.
Captain Skeleton? The pirate who caught Joey's boat in a storm and left him for dead? Oli.
Oli is a conquerer of dimensions, and he gets his armies by taking great fighters from theirs remotely. This is what happened to False, and after she gets her bearing in this world Oli will swoop in, saying he knows how to get her home.
The Sheriff is on the look out for this magic outlaw that he's heard of from all his friends separately, but they all gave the same description. He's gonna take thus guy down.
Joel straight up meets Oli and is super nonchalant about it, but on the inside he's freaking out. Out loud he decides Oli is cool to a) give off the impression he doesn't care about mortals and b) not to get his ass kicked by this guy.
And after typing all that, I think it would be really funny if Oli wasn't even a bad guy in Canon.

Sandman AU concept: The summoning happens just as in canon; Roderick Burgress attempts to summon Death and gets Dream instead. Whoever he got, his main intent is for them to return his son, Randall -- dead in the Great War -- to him. Dream refuses to say anything because a)screw Burgress and b)I legit do not think any kind of rational argument would have worked.
Except. One little thing Burgress didn't know.
Randall was still alive. POW, ended up with amnesia or something, tldr he was presumed dead and unable to contact his family for a few years.
We know basically nothing about him beyond what his father said, and given the golden child/scapegoat dynamic that's not an indication of what he was actually like. So, either because he was a decent person before or because being shown kindness after making it through a horrifying situation made an impact on him, he emerged from the war with more of a moral sense than the rest of the family (ie: literally any).
He gets home, finds out what his father has done, and is PISSED. 50/50 on if he realizes that his father actually summoned something or is just under the impression he's been keeping some random guy locked in the basement. Anyone tries to tell him it's not a person in there, well -- you see certain atrocities in war and will have a certain reaction to being told someone isn't actually a person and thus it's okay to hurt them. He only pauses long enough to figure out how to get the sphere open without the broken glass injuring anyone before freeing Morpheus.
My main intent with this concept being, to ensure Burgress faced suitable consequences for his actions -- not just his golden child now despising him for his unforgivable actions but dealing with whatever nightmares Dream thought suitable punishment, had he not escaped them by dying first.

Pac who did this as a joke and dare from Spiral: *snickering*
Skeebo: I don't know what the hell is the matter with you, but there is now logical way for this.
Skeebo: And there's no reason for you to say you can cut my p*nis off-

*glass breaks on floor*
Dr. Buttocks: BUTLER WHAT IN THE UNHOLY F*CK ARE YOU DOING NOW?!
Butler: It'S wOrKiNg~

Inky: Blinky..
Blinky: What?
Inky: You have to agree with me that Pennywise is literally the worst horror villain ever, he's only scary if you're scared of actual clowns.
Blinky: ...Valid point-
Inky: NO! YOU KNOW WHAT?! I'm scared of elevators! *sarcasm*
Blinky: *laughing*
Inky: What are you gonna do? BRING ME UP A FLOOR?! Oh nO-

i personally interpret diavolo's tendency to “avoid lying” as nothing more than an underlying demonic way of being evasive and redirecting the attention away from himself, even if he isn't aware of it. i don't believe he means to act this way, but given his upbringing i can't help but think that this is the life he's always known, and no one has shown him otherwise. even the person who actively committed treason against him, belphegor, failed to see why he was initially uneasy with diavolo, and eventually grew to become tolerant of him. he has so much power that isn't only tied to his position and title and i think this is something that people fail to address often, although i cannot fault them for it. as you said, the initial impression that diavolo makes on new players is a positive one compared to others like solomon.
i enjoy the subtlety between the obm casts' traits as well—dissecting them and thinking of how i can incorporate them into the content i make is the same as playing around with my friends' genshin artifacts to see how i can come up with the best outcome, lolol ^^ even if i dislike an obey me character for how they compose themself or their beliefs, i still do my best to bring justice to them, you know?
solomon viewing the demons as “toys” in the official chart is something that is kind of correct? the devs seemed to be setting up a stereotypical view of him without diving too deep into how he actually views them. i'm not sure if you're aware of the b-log translations, but solomon stated that he'd be happier if the people around him were smiling compared to him being happier on his lonesome, and i think that might include demons as well. in another b-log translation, he mentions that he'd be willing to make pacts with every demon if the devildom were to disappear, and i couldn't help but think to how he puts humanity first and foremost.
from my point of view, one reason why he's made so many pacts was to ensure the safety of the human realm. making so many pacts means that he is in control of a huge threat, because he cannot trust demons to uphold their “vow” of peace. he seems to have mellowed out with the influence of mc's interactions with demons, but it's nice to see how strongly he holds onto his beliefs regardless.
another thing...! your twitter just so happened to appear on my tl with your new solomon post, i couldn't help but leave a follow <3 excited to see more blurbs over there from your previous works, hehe
Ooh! That's an interesting way to look at it. Either way, there's definitely some strange inconsistencies with his character. I really like him. He shares a lot of parallels with Solomon and Lucifer, but I also feel like his character development is very fragmented. The route system could have benefited his development greatly rather than the speed dating, reverse harem joshimuke setup we're getting now.
(Spoiler for main story and B's log content + some brief biblical references below)
I actually meant to say the Solomon in the main story now is heavily implied to not feel that way anymore. He's definitely a lot less guarded now, and like you said, he doesn't feel a need to make this barrier between him and the demons anymore because MC held his hand and pulled him away from that barrier and made him actually go past it and see the demons as friends. I follow the B's log updates too and Solomon had been consistently shown to showcase a lot of selfless traits. Never jealous, chooses his own battles, and someone who had really lived up to his name and became the peace his name was meant to symbolise. It's still pretty consistent with Solomon's considerate nature even in the earlier main story. It's just the circle of the people he cared about had widened. He had literally allowed himself to feel alive again, and the thought of that is just so painful and so beautiful and now I'm internally crying because THIS MAN IS SO LONELY I WANT TO HUG HIM. Him prioritising humanity is actually something I mentioned in the reblog on cypherleaf's post. He mentioned it around S2--and even admitted that to MC.
The Solomon we have now is actually a lot closer to his biblical counterpart--famous for being branded a wise fool who became shortsighted and threw away his blessed wisdom for love (or lust depending on the books or apocryphal texts you're reading).
Actually! Hear me out but what if, that desperate moment, where he was almost on the verge of death and summoned Barbatos (S4 or S3 I think?)was a seed that might have possibly sown that distrust he possibly had with demons?
:0 If you give me your username, I can follow you back! I'm not really used to twitter so let me know if you want that!!

me heheheing over suture because I'm having a lil bit of fun playing them. spoilers for... their whole deal which I'm gonna drip feed in rp, but yeah.
like basically at the heart of suture is viewing the body as inherently separated from personhood. the very reason they have such an interest in corpses is because they don't have the usual sense of 'this used to be a person' that most people have. (Trying my hardest so that they never say anything that particularly humanises a corpse via rp.) they act the same way towards corpses as they would to watches if they happened to have an interest in clockwork. and that isn't new info, that's straight up in their bio.
what isn't really clear in their bio though is how this extends to living people or themself. this removal of the body from any sense of humanity means that they regard others with that removal. yes, body is here and present but it's really just housing for a soul while someone is alive. suture sees the twue person on the inside uwu. except not, right? because that's not actually how things work. you can't just tell who people are, and you're more out of luck if you're ignoring the visual signs they decide to put forward. suture isn't an idiot, they're not under the impression that they do know someone because of their viewpoint, but awareness does not automatically bring solution.
and within all of this is how they view themself through this lens. they are not their body, in their own eyes. such a viewpoint made it easy for them to find themself outside of gender. I wouldn't say they're inherently body dysmorphic, it's more like a dissociation than anything, and I think they could mend that relationship with their body without needing it to change. but boy, do they have social dysphoria. they're hyperaware that people do not view their body as separate from their soul, and can and will make assumptions based on what they see. that's why they obscure themself under loose clothing, and honestly why they felt so comfortable being cooped up in a funeral home with only one (living) companion.
so far they've been... skipping by in the RLP. no one has really challenged them on anything. except Enzo. poor bugger. when they are sorta reminded that the world's first perception of them is through their body it's... a wake up call, a bad one. one that makes them want to hide away in that dark little room that their own misunderstanding of people lost them. because they've done all they think they can do to hide any signs of their body that might indicate something, and when it still doesn't work, it feels a little hopeless.
and the solution for them is definitely going to have to come with how the rp goes along. but moments I think may be essential would be a. seeing the dead body of someone they knew alive, because that's something that's never happened to them before and would be a shake up of their status quo. b. interactions with the fellow transes of all stripes, but especially ones more comfortable in themselves. like suture is very much a person who is stuck at the very beginning of their trans journey, even though they've been in that place for honestly decades. they are both an elder and a baby. please help. c. honestly just people out here supporting them, reiterating their view of them, understanding their worldview.
d. coughs idk idk maybe they should get in touch with their body somehow idk idk if anyone's picking up what I'm putting down /shot

you ever notice that murder tension in movies
like these two seem to be friends but i’m picking up a faint murder vibe, bit of homicidal tension between these two but it’s pretty one sided, there’s nothing really that implies person a has any desire to kill person b except a few odd looks but it’s enough
i will not be surprised if this ends in murder.

Alright I have this theory and I can't stop thinking about that - if Bunnyx never confirms what actually happened, Marinette could never learn the truth about Chat Blanc. She can find out Gabriel is Hawk Moth and remember that she saw both hers and his corpse underwater in Chat Blanc timeline but even then both Chat Blanc AND Bunnyx confirmed that it was her who broke Adrien's heart and got him akumatized so imagine Marinette thinking that she probably broke his heart and he found out his father's identity in the same time or something and she forever thinks that she contributed to his pain or that she was the person who crossed the line. She will literally need Bunnyx to explain which I doubt will happen.
I get Bunnyx, she needed to protect their identities. I can't really blame her. And Adrien was gaslight by his father.
So this girl will forever have the impression that she a) hurt him more than anyone else or b) hurt him more than anyone else INCLUDING his father, who's literally the worst person to ever exist. And what makes it even worse is that he loves her only more and more no matter what happens and even if he finds out the "truth" about that, which isn't even true story, he will still love her and "forgive" her. This will really make her feel like the worst person alive.
Unless someone gives her an explanation it's a lose-lose situation.
Tumblr media
Miscommunication in this show will kill everyone and consequences of Chat Blanc just keep getting worse.

Given that even Caius/Carlisle can happen, is there any way, in any universe, Marcus/Carlisle can happen? Would Carlisle’s gift be able to help drag Marcus out of his depression?
Anon is referring to this hilariously terrible post.
I mean "any universe" is a very wide and terrifying place filled with many possibilities. I will say this is... unlikely, but not impossible. Caius/Carlisle wasn't.
What's Standing in Their Way?
A few things.
In canon, Marcus is deep in his depression hole by the time Carlisle shows up in Volterra. Remember that while in the movies he talks, in the books he just sort of flops around like a starfish never doing anything. To Carlisle, he's probably a bit like a piece of furniture.
More, given Carlisle's close friendship with Aro (regardless of if you believe they slept together or not), Marcus is just... not a part of that.
As for Marcus, again, there's Aro and Carlisle's thing going on to the side and also I just can't imagine he would care about any of this enough to pull him out of depression. He didn't in canon, after all. More, there's nothing for him to really do here and no reason he's needed. This is a requirement to pull him out of depression.
Even if we go into an AU world in which Marcus isn't depressed this would mean Marcus is married to Didyme, may not even be in Volterra, and probably deeply in love (this is one of the few canonical/any ships in Twilight I support). And, again, we know Carlisle in canon gravitates to Aro first and foremost. So I don't see how he and Marcus would end up together.
Try Muffin
Alright, alright.
I'm going to blame Aro. Aro decides that, by George, since he likes this Carlisle fellow so much and Carlisle's so wonderful, then maybe Carlisle will be so great as to cure Marcus. It's a long shot, but Aro will try nearly anything.
He's going to hook up Marcus with Carlisle or at least get them talking to each other. Probably the latter because Aro's willing to do almost anything but... well... let's not.
(Also, for this to work, Aro has been too nervous to sleep with Carlisle yet.)
Now, he can't just out and say it because a) that's not organic b) Carlisle will just give him this look because Aro is asking Carlisle to try to buddy buddy with the walking footstool.
So, I imagine Aro gives Carlisle a task that Marcus can conveniently help with. Personal headcanon, supported by nothing except that I find it funny: Marcus is very good at math. Particularly, he's good at graph theory.
In the days when Didyme was alive, Aro and Caius would bicker over the fastest route/shortest distance to transport their army to a needed front, Marcus blurts out the answer in polynomial time. Aro and Caius bicker over the shipping of supplies and how to maximize the amount of supplies moved from one port to another based on the cost of transport? Marcus blurts out the answer, again in polynomial time. Aro and Caius are very impressed by this talent.
It gets Marcus a bit of a reputation.
Well, then Marcus gets depressed and then a new problem arises. See, now they have Jane and Alec. In the 17th century, witch trials are ongoing and local vampires are presumably having a party. Everywhere is on fire and Jane/Alec have to make a tour of Europe stamping them out. Ideally, they visit a major city/region only once, and they want to do it in the shortest amount of time (least distance travel/least cost) possible.
Now, some of the blog readers may be catching on to which problem this is. This is the Travelling Salesperson problem, which we're going to call the Travelling Jane problem.
This is a notoriously difficult problem. It has existed for centuries and thus far has no solution in polynomial time (which means solvable fast enough that you won't go and cry in a corner somewhere). In fact, this problem is NP-Complete, which means that if it were solvable in polynomial time, the world would be an extremely different place where to recognize a solution is the same difficulty as being able to find it, you would be richer than Jesus, and you would be famous forever among mathematicians.
My point being, Aro wants this problem solved, it sounds at a surface level like problems Marcus can very quickly and efficiently solve and has many times before: Marcus cannot solve this problem in any reasonable amount of time. Only because he's so depressed, he can't explain this. Instead his brain just says "You can stay, I'm leaving".
(That said, Marcus could give Aro a pretty decent approximate solution, in which Jane's route is guaranteed to be some level of "not terrible" though not guaranteed to be the fastest possible. However, I imagine a) Aro's a perfectionist and just gives a disappointed huff when Marcus hands him a solution he knows isn't perfect and b) this requires work from Marcus who is a depressed snail at this point in his life.)
So, Aro gets Carlisle to ask Marcus about it. "Marcus, can you pretty please solve this math problem?" Well, Carlisle being smart but not a mathematician and not a guy who routinely thinks about these sorts of problems, goes ahead and asks Marcus.
I imagine Marcus just dies inside.
Aro has reached a new low. He is now sending his lovers to naively ask Marcus his stupid questions that Marcus has given him stupid answers to a billion times. Marcus may be a depressed snail, but he has reached his limit.
He also sees a golden opportunity.
"Sit down, son," Marcus who was turned at nineteen says to Carlisle, "Imma teach you math."
Carlisle blinks, he didn't know Marcus could talk. But Aro did give him this job so... erm, alright?
Well, turns out Carlisle's a pretty smart guy who actually is able to keep up and Carlisle in turn finds Marcus strangely brilliant. Who knew this guy who just sits there and says nothing is actually a genius?
Well, Carlisle gets the gist and he goes to Aro explaining NP-theory (years before it's invented/discovered no less) along with why Marcus cannot give Aro an exact answer to the Travelling Jane problem and he should just take his approximate solution and deal with it.
Carlisle then returns back to Marcus. Marcus blinks, why is this guy back? Well, Carlisle finds Marcus interesting and he wants to learn more stuff.
Oh. Marcus says. Carlisle doesn't leave.
Marcus ends up talking about anything and everything (probably mostly mathematics) and slowly but surely he and Marcus become good friends. Aro is thrilled and determines that he's going to leave this alone and wait with baited breath for Marcus to return to his non-depressed state.
And then the worst thing happens.
Carlisle becomes sexually attracted to Marcus. He doesn't realize it himself, but Marcus thanks to his gift does. This gets Marcus thinking, he and Carlisle are now good friends, could be something more, and Carlisle's clearly looking for something.
They start sleeping together.
Aro's heart makes the sound of ultimate suffering. "No," he says to himself because Marcus hasn't done anything in two thousand years. Then "No" because this just can't be happening. Then "No!" because he realizes what must be done.
Marcus' depression being cured is worth more than Aro's own happiness. Aro must not only let Carlisle go but he must support his and Carlisle's relationship with all he has. This is the price he pays for Didyme.
Well, this is all great and Carlisle and Marcus are happily in love, and then Carlisle notes he wants to leave. Worse, Marcus wants to come with him and give this animal diet a try (also because he acutely feels Aro's heart breaking in half and it's getting a bit weird).
Didyme's death was for nothing.
Now Aro must kill Carlisle and ruin Marcus all over again. I imagine Aro's nervous sobbing laughter is heard from miles away.
However, I like to imagine Aro's learned something after all this time, and he lets them go though makes them promise to visit. Often. And keep in touch via letter. Often.
He can only hope they'll both come back.
(And to make this a happy story I imagine they do when the only others they find on the diet are the Denali. That puts a bit of a damper on this "finding others" quest.)

Note
a spooky Halloween vampire infection spreads, which smashers are the least to most dangerous
My ranking (only tiers are ranked, otherwise similar fighters are grouped next to each other):
Tumblr media
The tiers:
S Tier: If they have their sights on you you're basically free food
Enderman, Sans, Meta Knight, Ness, Sheik, Zelda, Palutena, Mewtwo, and Greninja (albeit with some minor limitations) are all capable of teleporting.
Sonic is the fastest person alive, no way in hell are you getting away from him.
Toon Link has the Command Melody; he can wave the Wind Waker and literally make you walk over to him if he so desired.
BotW Link has Stasis, which can freeze you in place for a short period of time.
A Tier: More dangerous than most and weak points are minor or nonexistent but they still have to actually get to you
I would argue Kirby to be more of a threat than King Dedede in any other circumstance, and for the most part they match up here: both are extremely powerful forces with a dangerous appetite and the ability to float. What Kirby DOESN'T have is extreme tankiness or an army of thousands, including flying units or units impervious to every form of damage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Captain Falcon and Yoshi are both really fast and have other beneficial attributes, but not enough to be in S-tier like Sonic.
Snake and (I think) Joker have stealth on their side and they don't have any glaring weaknesses either.
Kirby, Sora, Bayonetta, and Rosalina are all floaty with other good abilities.
Shulk has Monado Arts and Vision, meaning he can go fast and also see into the future in certain circumstances; not unstoppable but a definite threat.
Lucario can sense auras so he can see you through walls (a la Subspace Emissary).
B Tier: They all have at least one major weakness but would be terrifying to deal with otherwise
We've heard it again and again, Little Mac isn't an air fighter. But on the ground? Nothing short of terrifying. He's the third fastest character in the game behind Captain Falcon and Sonic, and in his home game Little Mac is capable of wiping the near entirety of Donkey Kong's health bar in ONE punch. The speed of his rapid jab in Smash? Yeah that's not an enhancement he just fucking does that in his own game.
Charizard and the Inkling have their own unique skills (flying and stealth respectively) but they share a weakness to water.
Piranha Plant and Ivysaur, like Charizard and the Inklings, both have unique skills that would make them dangerous, but they share a vulnerability to fire.
Bowser and Bowser Jr., like the above, have different skills which would assist them but being Koopas they're both rendered helpless for a while if you knock them on their backs.
Banjo & Kazooie spend enough time together that they can be considered a package set. They have dangerous approach options, being able to fly and use Wonderwing to render themselves invulnerable. Both abilities are limited in that they require red and gold feathers respectively, so without those they're little more than groundbound.
Without a god or goddess the Pits don't have much more than the average Smash fighter, but if they do have one on their side they have impressive speed in the air.
Ridley's a dangerous predator, but his weakness is, funnily enough, his size. He has a lot of difficulty reaching people in a small space.
Jigglypuff is floaty and can put you to sleep, but she's fairly slow and light so as long as you keep an eye out for her (or wear headphones) you should be fairly okay.
Kazuya is slow but he has options to stun you and get closer.
King K. Rool is able to tank many attacks with his belly armor, but if an attack is too powerful you'll leave him stunned.
Min Min's arms have a lot of reach, but they're slow and she has lots of difficulty reaching in the air.
C Tier: If they have special abilities they don't help too much for the purposes of being a vampire, but no particularly exploitable weaknesses (feel free to move characters in this tier wherever you think would be a better fit)
D Tier: They can be dangerous but they aren't going to be outclassing anyone
Squirtle, like Bowser and Bowser Jr, can be flipped over on its back, but while its speed isn't bad it isn't great either.
Ganondorf and Dr. Mario are both slow, but neither of them have much in the way of slowing you down.
Zombie is slow and also already undead, sooo...
Incineroar is slow like Ganondorf and Dr. Mario AND is weak to fire like Charizard and the Inklings--it definitely goes at the bottom of this list.
E Tier: Vampirism is essentially a non-issue with this tier
With how much garlic he eats Wario is essentially walking vampire repellent, more so than even the Belmonts. He's not getting bitten by anyone. If he happened to be the first infected rather than getting it from someone else, then he'd probably be in A tier.
Due to their status as Blades I don't know if Pyra and Mythra could even become vampires in the first place.
R.O.B. and Mega Man are robots. Also R.O.B. doesn't even have a mouth.
Good luck biting through Samus's armor just sayin.
Olimar and Alph are both difficult to bite, but also they'd both arguably be unable to actually bite anyone because they require space helmets.
I started on this last night but it was way too late for me to finish it so happy late halloween folks

doodles (Joaquin Torres x Reader, Soulmate!AU)
Tumblr media
PAIRING ››››› Joaquín Torres x GN!Reader
REQUEST ››››› ya know the soulmate au alphabet? Could i request Torres + b and w from the alphabet?
b...ody art (doodles that a person draws on themselves appear on their soulmate’s skin). g...uardian (it is said that the person who saves you from a near-death experience is your soulmate—drowning, car crash, etc.)
WORD COUNT ››››› 1,255
WARNINGS ››››› none
A/N ››››› Sooo I kind of cheated by combining the two letters. Also the writing style is kinda different from my usual story work, but hopefully both risks pan out.
Tumblr media
The first picture to ever blossom on his skin is a bird.
The other boys in class have flowers and suns and clouds and little stick figure girls and boys, but he has a bird. And while theirs are sketchy and smudged and disproportionate, his looks as if it's been plucked from a picture book with its steady lines and cartoonish detail.
He'd been surprised to find it, nestled into the crook of his elbow, only appearing when he raised his hand to answer a question. He's so used to seeing his friends with images that littered the backs of their hands and wrists and thighs, he’d never thought to check anywhere else.
A thought crosses his mind.
More than crosses.
It takes over.
He knows he isn't supposed to.
If his teacher catches him, he'll get into trouble. He's not even supposed to have a pen in class. The rule's supposed to help kids avoid the temptation of sending off doodles to their soulmates. Of course, like all school rules, kids find a way around it, keeping pens tucked away in pockets and backpacks and lunch bags.
He's never been one to break the rules, but this feels like he has to. His soulmate's out there somewhere, waiting for him. It only feels right to assure them that he's waiting for them too.
Joaquin pulls the pen he keeps tucked in his desk in hopes of just such an occasion and quietly uncaps it. Carefully and stealthily, he drags the pen tip across his skin, eyes darting up to track the teacher’s movements and make sure he doesn't get caught. As a result, the drawing isn't very good. The head's too big for the body and the feet too long. He’d attempted to draw the wing twice, leaving the lines thicker than the rest of the bird. But it's there, facing the first and chirping out a note, so they know he's alive and thinking of them in this moment. And that had to feel nice.
He sticks the pen back in his desk, looking up at the board and quickly copying down the problems he’s almost missed. It's not until he reaches forward to pass in his paper that he notices the addition to the doodle. Two eighth notes tweet out from the first bird.
He smiles.
Tumblr media
It becomes increasingly clear that his soulmate’s an artist.
Most people don’t have doodles on their arms and palms anymore. Instead they have drawings sketched into places only they can see--secret notes passed between soulmates. But his body is littered with art.
Intricate patterns bloom across the back of his hand, and twist and twirl up his arm. His forearm becomes a comic strip. Constant commentary on their day or whatever social issues are on their mind. Sometimes they leave a panel open for him to finish. His drawing hasn’t improved much from the first bird.
He wishes he could send along words of praise or encouragement even though he knows words won’t go through.
He wishes that they would use this gift to pass along messages like just about everyone else his age does. But all attempts at starting a conversation like that have gone unanswered. Instead, he simply gets to witness their art and their life play out across his skin. And Joaquin has learned to be content with that.
Because while other kids are coordinating their futures around their soulmates and tailoring all plans to match the other’s, he gets to make his decisions free. He gets to sign up for the Air Force ROTC without a shred of guilt or pushback like some of the other cadets have to deal with.
Tumblr media
Their doodles are what keeps him grounded. Throughout basic and his first deployment, their delicate designs and drawings keep him company in those moments when he feels absolutely alone. They make him feel human in moments where he’s asked to be inhuman.
Their art has saved his life more than once too. The obvious doodles keeping him from doomed missions and distracting him for just long enough to avoid disaster. But more than those obvious, blood running cold, vomiting from how close it was moments, the doodles save his life because they are a constant.
He’s not the only one who appreciates the art either. The others in his unit laugh at the comics his soulmate still draws on his arms. They marvel of the intricacy of his soulmate’s work. On how they’re able to create such a detailed band of wild flowers around their own tricep. They laugh as he attempts to draw a bird amongst the flowers. He wonders if his soulmate knows they’re a bit of a celebrity amongst the 547th.
He wonders if he’ll ever get to tell them.
That’s the thought that weighs heavily on him as he watches his friends on base turn to dust around him. As he watches planes fall from the sky and plummet to the ground. As he watches the gentle waves and roles of the ocean that cascade across his forearm disappear.
Tumblr media
It's five years before another doodle appears on his skin. He almost cries when he sees it. A small cartoon bird wipes sweat off of its forehead as if relieved.
He lacks all creativity in terms of response and just surrounds the bird in a cloud of hearts.
And that's their reunion. After this, life continues on, and their established routine continues. While the rest of the world still feels like a mess, the familiar rhythm of waking up to a new comic, of finding a new illustration branded on his shoulder makes him feel whole again.
The art maintains its affects on others as well. Both Sam and Bucky like to tease him for the "garden on his arm" or tell him he's a "human gallery." But he notices the way they practice drawing on their arms, watches as the other eyes the spot it appears on their own skin and mercilessly roasts it. Bucky has asked Joaquin if he's willing to trade soulmates more than once.
Joaquin's not.
Tumblr media
Ideally, Joaquin would have met his soulmate under calmer circumstances.
Maybe they could have met at a Starbucks when they accidentally reached for the same drink and noticed the matching patterns on each other's arms.
Maybe they could have met while his soulmate was taking a tour of the base, and he just so happened to stop and say hello to the guide and realized that he had the same three birds on his shoulder.
Maybe they could have just finally coordinated a time to see each other face to face.
Instead, he catches them as they're pushed from a stolen helicopter.
Later, they tell him that they wish he'd just walked into their tattoo shop. That his first impression of them wasn't screaming and crying and just about ready to vomit all over him. That they wouldn't have blamed him for keeping the connection a secret when the first thing they said to him after saving their life was "Ow! I think you broke my back." (Which, for the record, he didn't. It was just bruised.)
But when he sees the band of flowers encircling their tricep, he can't keep it in. He can't believe he's holding his soulmate in his arms. The person who's kept him company for almost two decades.
So he says something almost as idiotic as they do: "You're the bird."
And that pretty much solidifies the fact that they're meant to be.

I have finished Forever Evil!
Major event, and the first major universe-wide crossover event of the New 52, so some thoughts:
This makes it incredibly evident how much smaller the New 52 world is. Part of this story is that the JL went missing, and then the Teen Titans get sent into the time stream in issue #2 and...that's it. There's no extended roster of former/honorary JLA members and Titans to call on, no JSA, no Outsiders, no nothing. Other teams do exist in the New 52, but they're just not connected enough. It feels so different from the preboot events I'm used to, because there simply isn't the deep, expansive, interconnected community of heroes all those events rely on.
That's not necessarily a bad thing from an objective perspective, but personally it does feel like a huge loss. I love that sense of constant community across heroes in the preboot world, I love the sense of history in all the teams and all their members that have come before, so I'm very sad to be shown just how thoroughly that's been lost.
That said, I'm down with the concept of this event having a large focus on our villains--the evil version of the Justice League--and protagonists in the form of other villains who just happen to be opposed to them, while our heroes are out of commission. Very fitting for an event entitled Forever Evil. (And they clearly picked from their most popular villains: you got Luthor, Captain Cold, Manta, Black Adam, and Sinestro, plus Catwoman and a new version of Bizarro.)
(dc: do you promise to love B-Zero / me: yes!!! / dc: lmao sucker)
This also only makes it the more jarring and annoying that somehow Batman still manages to be a main character.
(DC i s2g you will not die if you let him take a backseat just once)
The Crime Syndicate mostly has just enough to sustain a story while still being enjoyably hateable, but :| Superwoman :| not good. Dislike that the single token evil woman's story is 100% about being pregnant and cheating and having relationships with men :|
"the prisoner" obviously had to be a reversed version of one of our leads, and that part wasn't particularly shocking
but fuck if "mazahs" didn't get me as a reveal. 👌 👌 👌
OKAY so speaking of how much smaller the world is, it's such a bummer to see this Dick plotline happening in the New 52. Because who is there to react to this really? We see Bruce, Tim, Barbara; probably would have seen Damian were he alive. Jason doesn't even appear, but that's still only one (1) other person. Dick has no other close friends among heroes. The Titans never existed. He isn't buddies with Superman.
The entire Dick plotline feels like it's trying to bank on the long-running pattern of Dick being an essential keystone of the DC universe, except that's just not true anymore.
Makes me sad, because I truly think Dick's identity being revealed could have been a cool af moment to prompt some fun new plots...but only in a world where Dick is actually important like that.
This is the one reason I forgive Bruce being a major character here, because god we need somebody to care about and interact with Dick in these scenes. Damian is dead. Tim gets thrown into the timestream with the rest of the TTs, and isn't close to Dick in the New 52 anyway. Jason isn't close to him. No Titans. He and Babs have a told-not-shown vague impression of a will-they-won't-they except they never have here. Bruce is the only one who can really bring emotion to that scene. So I will allow Batman being here, just this once.
(Dick & Tim crumbs: Tim sees Dick is captured and immediately is worried and declares the Teen Titans have to go save him, allowing me to pretend just for the course of this storyline they are still beloved brothers.)
All the oneshot villain tie-ins absolutely bog the whole thing down way, way too much. Reading was a slog, and I was still only reading the ones it batbooks. Once I dropped those, went back to the beginning, and read just the main Forever Evil and Justice League books, it was way more fun and a breeze to read.
Overall, I'd say I definitely have complaints, some of which are more the fault of the New 52 overall than this specific story line, but there were many points where I was excited to keep reading or see what happened next, so I guess I did ultimately enjoy it!

Note
I’m glad that your making those alphabet relationship thingy again. But I also don’t know where they are so can you make the exact same letters in your last post but make it with Tsurigi, Kuromahi and Yukimura?
Thank you.
Tsurugi Kyousuke (i've already written for him but i don't remember so yeet here are some new ones)
Tumblr media
A: Attitude - How do they act towards the first date?
- Nervous but doesn't admit it. Nobody even knows he is going on a date and doesn't ask for help. Tsurugi doesn't own any tuxedos or super fancy clothes, so he will choose a black shirt and jeans, enough to look classy. He does his best to impress you and get to know you better. Refuses to go to public areas and takes you somewhere where nobody goes. Tsurugi will of course buy some snacks and drinks beforehand. Overall, pretty chill while dying on the inside, talking with you, and joking around.
B: Benefits - Any perks of him/her dating you?
- He is protective and willing to beat the shit out of anybody who tries to mess with you. Nobody dares to bully you because everyone is scared of him. Tsurugi doesn't forbid you from going out with your friends, but he warned them not to hurt you, just in case. He is also supportive and willing to listen to you, even if he can't think of comforting words. He finds you absolutely beautiful and cares for you. Always asks how your day was, have you eaten, and takes care of you even if he has to neglect himself.
C: Cuddles - are they a good hugger? Or do they like hugs?
- Stiff as fuck in the beginning. He never hugged someone for more than 5 seconds and doesn't know how to act. When you lay on him and want to cuddle, he will transform into a statue, not daring to twitch even a finger, as to not disturb you. He gets the hang of things after a while, but during cuddling he holds you so tight and close to him, caressing every part of your body.
E: Envy - Are they envious about something?
- Sometimes he can be a jerk and say things that may offend you. He envies those calm and proper guys from school, comparing himself to them all the time. Tsuru is afraid you will dump him because of his cold nature. He doesn't realize that you find him one of the best people you know.
I: Intimacy - Will they rush with sex?
- Well, I feel like he sure will get turned on just by watching your butt. I don't want to go into detail about him as a teen, so time to skip to his 20s. Tsuru has a high libido but is able to hide it in public. He sure will yearn to tip his pepper in the sauce but will discuss with you first before taking action. Tsurugi will initiate more intimate acts, but if you want to stop or don't feel ready, he is willing to wait as much as possible.
K: Kin - Are they anxious about introducing you to their parents?
- No. His dad is chill and will actually insist on meeting with you the very first second he learns about your relationship with his son. His mom will not interfere in your relationship, but asks frequently how you're doing. His parents act kind toward you and already accepted you as their son's spouse.
О: On/Off - Do they get turned on (aroused) by you easily?
- He falls so hard for you and he sure does. (All of this happens in his 20s) Tsurugi gets turned on by just a single hip swing from you. Most of the acts will commence after a tickle fight. He does get turned on easily, mainly because he is obsessed with your body.
W: Weakness - Do they have any weaknesses towards you?
- When you take care of him; when you hug and kiss him. He adores the fell when there is a person there for him in every situation (except his teammates). Your touch, your presence lightens up his life and makes him feel alive.
Z: Zzz - Are they a heavy sleeper? How do they sleep? Do they like to wake you up?
- He is a hell of a heavy sleeper. Tsurugi can't wake up if his alarm isn't on the other side of the room. Sometimes he only sleeps 3 hours and his body decides to wake him up in the middle of the night. Not even energy drinks help him, not even all-nighters. If he wants to sleep, he sleeps. He doesn't like waking you up at all, even if you ask him so.
i couldn't find kuromahi...? is it that guy kurama or...?
Yukimura Hyouga
Tumblr media
A: Attitude - How do they act towards the first date?
- He is the calmest person out there. He doesn't scream on the inside as well and calmly contemplates what to do and how to dress, what to buy you, where to take you, and even makes up conversations in his head (sadly they don't go as planned lol). He tells you beforehand if he wants the date to be with a casual theme or fancy theme and dresses accordingly.
B: Benefits - Any perks of him/her dating you?
- He is a soft baby. Yukimura will abide with all your wishes and will try his best to make you feel loved. He is not jealous at all (like wtf how) and you never feel suffocated. Literally does not care if you haven't shaved or whatever. This boy will always be by your side and ask you tons of questions regarding your well-being, and even if the slightest thing is wrong, he will leave his house just to hug and comfort you.
C: Cuddles - are they a good hugger? Or do they like hugs?
- Yukimura hates touching others but clings to you when you meet up. His hugs are always so warm and make you feel loved and protected (he likes to be the small spoon too). He adores your hugs and never misses to cuddle when you're with him.
E: Envy - Are they envious about something?
- Well he is not a jealous person but is concerned about his body. He thinks he is too skinny and you might not like it, but tries not to think about it, because it was never proven to be true.
I: Intimacy - Will they rush with sex?
- Well, as innocent as he seems, he will feel the heat sometimes (even during his minor years, which is normal cuz puberty) but does not consider doing it until some time passes. Yuki prefers to discuss it first then act, but will try to keep it cool until he comes of age.
K: Kin - Are they anxious about introducing you to their parents?
- No, not at all... well maybe his mom a bit but she only acts strictly regarding discipline. His parents will warmly welcome you into their home and make sure to let you relax and start feeling comfortable in their company. His mom will make jokes here and there but not in an offensive way.
О: On/Off - Do they get turned on (aroused) by you easily?
- 50/50. Yuki never thought about this too much. But this does not mean he does not love you. He loves you a lot, but intercourse and arousal don't determine the health of your relationship in his opinion. He does love every inch of your body, but never shows arousal in public, he has morals y'all. (jk) When you're alone (and already in your 20s) he will show lust, a lot of lust, because he just loves you.
W: Weakness - Do they have any weaknesses towards you?
- Wdym you're his whole weakness, my friend. But... there is one thing that is just driving him insane... he is a lot into azz and loves to stare at it yours a lot, so when you sit in his lap or just have your butt pressed onto him he becomes a blushing blob of feelings.
Z: Zzz - Are they a heavy sleeper? How do they sleep? Do they like to wake you up?
-He is a bit of a light sleeper. Yukimura likes to sleep and goes to bed early fully clothed. He loathes being woken up and has earplugs just in case. The only thing he makes sure to hear is his alarm, so he chooses the loudest ringtone that wakes up even the spiders that chill in his room's corners, or goes to bed early and wakes up in time. If you are sleeping he will buy you your own earplugs to use just in case (and because he can't be quiet).
