What is your opinion on the sexual cutscenes of FF16? I think a similar question was previously asked about Triangle Strategy and it seemed rather forced for the sake of pretending to be a more mature story, when FFT didn't rely on the explicitly sexual content to tell a mature story.

(This ask and the response are based on information that has been available as early as the demo and shouldn't contain any spoilers for the full game).

I don't mind a good sex scene and find the strangely puritanical reaction against sex depicted in film and television to be one of the most alien and frustrating discourses in recent years, but in this case it just seems to be the natural consequence of Yoshi P. demanding that his team watch the fucking GoT box-set:

...We wanted to create something that really resonated with a lot of people. And when we saw how Game of Thrones, and before that the Song of Ice and Fire series, has really resonated with players, we knew that this was something that we wanted to do as well. When we first started creating the game, we had our core team of about 30 members very early on buy the blu-ray boxset of Game of Thrones and required everyone to watch it, because we wanted this type of feel.

Game of Thrones made a lot of people a lot of money, and we thought to ourselves, boy, we would also like some of that money.

A larger distinction is that GoT features real actors who are, you know, people, and so it's not terribly embarrassing to see them stripped and smashing their shit together or jacking off or whatever. FFXVI, according to the aesthetic preference of an entire industry, is populated by uncanny digital homunculi only crudely approximating the appearance of real people with the animating force of God's breath filling their lungs. I don't anticipate that FFXVI will have full-bore, hog-out ramming or anything- I assume it's just a lot of post-coital sideboob, maybe a glimpse of Clive's weird little ass here and there- but in this presentational mode it would play closer to comedy if you're not catastrophically addicted to Overwatch porn.

There is a reason the camera would always cut away before Kratos starts fucking. You don't want to see that shit. You think you want to see it, but you don't want to see it. Do you expect to profit by seeing what David Jaffe in his wisdom has obscured from our eyes? This isn't In the Mood for Love. A color pencil rendering by some chronically masturbating teenage fan submitted to EGM in 2006 would be more stimulating than whatever these games are capable of showing you. You don't need to see Kratos' stroke game. You haven't even earned the right.

Beyond the unintended aesthetic effect of these things, I don't really trust this team to incorporate that influence in a meaningful or considered way, based on what I've seen of the game thus far. It extends to the 'epic medieval violence' and the prolific use of 'fuck'. I love fuck like a brother so please understand when I say that this is an incredibly remedial deployment of the term. The fuck sauce is not imitable. You simply have it or else it'll never be yours. A decade of stewarding radically PG-13 MMO quest dialogue has closed off the way to that place for Michael-Christopher Koji Fox.

And the insistent comparisons to Matsuno's oeuvre from the fanbase, often as a defensive appeal to legitimacy wherever the GoT influence is noted, are bordering on the absurd. Vaguely medieval politicking was apparently the only mark of his work that ever found purchase in people's minds, and none of the particular aesthetic, aural, or tonal distinctions that made those games living and vital. I don't expect that this game will have a meaningful resonance with those works except that people will be furious when the narrative inevitably ends with Clive facing off against some sort of ogre or deity instead of late medieval Karl Rove. But I also don't expect I'll have anything meaningful to share on the matter until I've seen for myself if it's as blandly imitative as it all seems. I mean, it's at least coming from an incredibly cynical place, as evinced in the quote above.

I don't have $650 USD burning a hole in my pocket at the moment, but I would love to be proven wrong whenever I have the chance to play it in like, late 2024. I similarly thought that FFXV looked totally insipid but then found it very affecting. Combat is an easy sell as one of the last living "character-action guys". You can use 'Stinger', that's good. There's a cooldown on the launcher? What the fuck is wrong with these people? It's probably still pretty good.

There was no such thing as sick days for the mercs. They had Sunday off to pray in the tiny chapel on base, which only Engineer attended, but for the most part the mercs worked six to eight hour days, six days a week. When you got a cold you went into battle sniffling and coughing- if you got killed due to somebody hearing you wheeze then you got killed. If you were desperate you could sleep underneath the mounted minigun in the lab to help get the virus out of your system, but nobody was desperate enough to fall asleep around Mr.Is anybody going to take these hearts (plural) and not wait for an answer.

So, no one really batted an eye when Medic showed up to battle with a runny nose.

“Theme of Sachio 2″: Analyzing how mabanua conveys Sachio’s character development through music

At first glance, Sachio’s Season 2 theme sounds pretty different from his Season 1 theme, and for good reason; he’s a very different character. But if we look closely, there’s a good amount of continuity as well.

If I had to describe the sound of the arpeggio melody in the S2 theme, I’d call it a glockenspiel (EDIT: In hindsight, it sounds more like pitched up strings, but everything in this paragraph about the S1 theme still holds). You can also hear a similar sound throughout both of his S1 themes (starting at around 0:10) as well as what sounds like a marimba (starting at around 0:28), also a mallet percussion instrument. In the production interviews included in the Season 1 Blu-ray, Moriyama mentioned that the vision for Sachio’s theme was a hip-hop sound with a childish feel. Because of the glockenspiel's bright, clear timbre and its association with toy instruments — and therefore childhood — I think the mallet percussion instrument family represents Sachio’s youth and innocence.

In addition to the instrumentation, Sachio’s S2 theme keeps some of the same musical language as the first: lots of arpeggiation, with stepwise moving bass notes. The main arpeggio melody is descending this time, though, instead of ascending, which might represent how Sachio has lost his way in the years since the first season. While in Season 1 Sachio served as the moral backbone of Team Bangaichi, inspiring the adults to work together and fight for their dreams, in Season 2, he is one of the most conflicted characters, suffering from the most internal strife of all the kids, and the last to accept Joe back into their lives.

This strife is further emphasized by the tinny, strained sound of the glockenspiel — in contrast with the soft, resonant tones used in the S1 theme — perhaps representing Sachio’s struggle to exist in an adult world while still a child. Mabanua also adds heavy, distorted bass and a wailing electric guitar to up the angst. The dirty-sounding bass is reminiscent of that used in Joe’s theme from Season 1, but it isn’t the only thing Sachio has picked up from Joe musically in Season 2. The key has changed from A minor in Season 1 to D minor in Season 2, the same key as Joe’s S1 theme, and there are a few melodic elements that evoke Joe’s theme as well. Namely, this section starting at around 0:37.

The first section (red) reminds me of the very last phrase from Joe’s S1 theme, and the second section (blue) reminds me of a repeated phrase from Joe’s S1 theme which can be heard first at around 1:30. Track 1 in the playlist above contains the excerpt from Sachio’s theme and Track 2 contains both of the excerpts from Joe’s theme below.

The third track in the playlist is what it might sound like if Joe's and Sachio's themes were combined. The way the melody in Sachio’s theme sits on the C# (ti ti ti ti do) makes me think it’s going to transition into Joe’s theme every time I hear it so I wanted to create how that might sound.

But, crucially, that doesn’t actually happen.

And it’s a beautiful musical representation of Sachio’s character arc — the way he tries to emulate Joe, fails, and then ultimately realizes that he is his own person. When the two of them finally reconcile in Episode 10, the track used is “Theme of Sachio 2 (Sollow [sic])”, a track which is certainly sorrowful, but is far more evocative of Sachio’s S1 theme with its ascending arpeggios and melancholy guitar. Perhaps the mallet percussion is lost as he sheds his false idea of what maturity means and genuinely matures as a result.

The Episode 13 epilogue adds one final piece. While the shift in key to D minor at first seems to represent Sachio’s misguided attempts at taking Joe’s place, by the end of the show we find that Sachio has in fact assumed Joe’s role as the young man chasing a dream, and that Joe has assumed Nanbu’s role as a father figure. The shift in key for Sachio is a musical passing of the torch in the same way as Joe passing on his motorcycle and taking ownership of Nanbu’s old truck.

Fun Fact: The blue phrase from Joe’s theme is directly quoted in Liu’s theme!

Team Fortress 2 but with VA/GW Characters (REVISED)

Since my friend Mel-Mel @melones-my-bottom-bitch is introduced to Team Fortress 2 by Miss Mingot @mingot-studios, I decided to do a rework of my mid-2020 post about the VA/GW characters as TF2 characters.

On the anti-heroic BLU Team, we have:·

Scout – Narancia Ghirga; Narancia is rather cocky and arrogant (as well as VERY short-tempered to the point of whipping out his switchblade knife if angered, which is often), and he is pretty tiny, so he fits the role perfectly.

Soldier – Bruno Bucciarati; Well, he is strong in both offense and defense (._.).

Pyro – Sheila E.; I only have one reason for giving her the role of Pyro, and it’ll all be explained below.

Demoman – Leone Abbacchio; what? The guy has a drinking problem that he mostly keeps under control.

Heavy – Guido Mista; Mista is the most comical of the team and will likely use Sex Pistols to direct the bullets, since he usually serves as the team’s enforcer.

Engineer – Pannacotta Fugo; Fugo has an IQ of 152 and when not upset (which is WHEN he gets hotheaded and violent) he’s usually polite, mature, friendly, and caring.

Medic – Coniglio; I know this seems controversial, but I decided on giving this character the role of medic instead of Giorno (don’t get me wrong; I did consider on giving the Medic role to Giorno at first). For those of you who don’t know Coniglio is, she is from Golden Heart, Golden Ring, a (dubiously canon) light novel taking place after the gang betrayed the Boss, written by Miya Shotaro and Gichi Otsuka, and illustrated by the Hirohiko Araki himself, released in Japan on May 2001 and three years later in Italy. Her Stand is The Cure (named after the English rock band), an adorable gem-encrusted rabbit capable of healing any injury or disease almost instantly. However, should it absorb too much pain, it’ll grow into a gigantic subhuman rabbit and go berserk, with it growing stronger the more it gets hit until Coniglio calls out to it to calm it down. To me its berserker state sounds like the OP version of the Ubercharge.

Sniper – Giorno Giovanna; Giorno likes to observe and analyze his enemies from his rifle scope, prefers subtle tactics to take down enemies that don’t draw too much attention, and he can turn his bullets into plant matter to trap his enemies for him to annihilate.

Spy – Cannolo Murolo; with his Stand All Along Watchtower, Cannolo makes the perfect spy for the team.

On the anti-villainous RED Team, we have:

Scout – Formaggio; that guy’s quick on his feet and able to improvise. With Little Feet, he’ll sizeshift to dodge enemy attacks. Then there’s the fact that Formaggio is a cocky son of a bitch.

Soldier – Ghiaccio; What? They're both violently crazy (even if Ghiaccio can be levelheaded at times) and seem patriotic (definitely the case with Soldier and his love for America, while foregin languages in Italian culture sets Ghiaccio off on a tirade as shown with his "Venezia" rant)

Pyro – Gelato; combine childlike with Ax-Crazy and here ya go :)

Demoman – Sorbet; I imagine Sorby spamming grenades to create a rain of blood and dismembered body parts. I'm just stumped with ideas.

Heavy – Risotto Nero; seriously, this guy might be officially tall at a whopping SIX FEET AND EIGHT FREAKING INCHES, so he’s very much a muscular giant. If you somehow manage to survive this guy’s hail of machine gun fire, depending whether you have the guy’s bullets imbedded in you or not, Risotto will use Metallica to turn you into a bullseye target at best or a human pincushion at worst.

Engineer – Pesci; generally speaking, Pesci could potentially be Only Sane by Comparison, as despite his cowardice, he's more intelligent and cautious. Not to mention it'll be a REALLY bad idea if you mess with him.

Medic – Melone; that guy might have a degree in human genetics. After all, he has a mad scientist shtick going on.

Sniper – Prosciutto; Prosciutto is all about professionalism. Both he and the Sniper are Affably Evil, as Prosciutto genuinely cares for Pesci and recognized Bruno’s worth as Capo, and the Sniper’s credo about his work as an assassin (“Be polite, be efficient; have a plan to kill everyone you meet.”) Also fitting that Prosciutto is part of the "Support Class" since Grateful Dead couldn't kill by itself and has a major weakness to the cold.

Spy – Illuso; that mofo would be the type of person to spam Electro Sappers onto the enemy machines, driving Fugo nuts and usually earning the ire of Shelia E.

Meanwhile, Diavolo is the administrator for both teams, with Doppio working for him.

So this is a bit of a weird one. In this AU Ash is actually a Latios who brought to Delia after his birth mother was attacked by four different evil teams. What I like about this is not only we giving a some really worldbuilding in this au but good character development with Ash, Latias(from the movie) and Pikachu. Earthborne By Mixed Valence

So this SI where the character is in Fire Emblem Fates and after bond with Nohr family has to make a choice to the upcoming war. What I like about this fic is the worldbuliding as it flash out more about this world. Another thing is the grey mortal that is done well in this fics then most other fic. Because the usually play Nohr's action while just making just racist. Which come with a whole lot of problems and one them is you just make the game look even better at that part and I don't know how you imagine that. Kingdom Hearts: The Winter War By colossalblackening

This is crossover between Bleach and Kingdom Hearts after the events of KH3 Sora wakes up in Hueco Mundo with no memories. Because of that Aizen trick Sora into joining the attack the Soul Society. What I like about this fic is the spot on characterized in this fic and well as really well done action scenes. So this is an story a dragon named Charla who was save from the raid by an ape and raise by Jayce. But due to the even that in the fic they have separated and Charla needs to find him. By traveling through a war torn world and making friends and enemies along the way. What I like about it is that this is a story that does take place during the game but in a different pov so it makes the world flesh out a bit more. So this is a what-if story where Xion won the battle Roxas. Xion won and killed Roxas and to make things worse Organization 13 are after her and DiZ woke Sora with only half of power because Roxas didn't fuse with Sora. As you can see this story have a lot of twists and turns. All the character are used instead of shove a side like in the main games. Dark Legacy series By Dardarax(M)(*)

So the Dark Legacy fic is next gen about a albino dragon, named Lyrith who goes to Temple Academy where dragons learn about fight, the world around them, etc. The problem is that as albino Lyrith has no power and while accepting some of the people around are dislike for being an albino. Lyrith is not the only chatacter that has an arc in this story and ocs cast is pretty good in my option. It also has good world-building without going away from the main story. Check it out but it does get dark at time so be careful.

Samurai Jack Season 5 in Review: EPISODE XCIV

If you can take the heat, kids, this episode will be worth it.

On the last episode of Samurai Jack--SPOILER ALERT--Jack, on the run for his life, exchanged swords with a daughter of Aku... and it’s pretty much why this season is rated TV-14-V. Like I read, though, if 6-year-old children can see Avengers: Age of Ultron and other PG-13 rated films, surely they could stand a bloody injury. Is it more about imitating the violence, or about the grisly results of that violence, that makes parents strongly cautioned?

After airing Wonder Woman (2017), which was TV-14-DLV with a viewer advisory, in December 2020, and with all of the edgy movies that debuted on ACME Night (transitioning to the “movies every night” block in 2022) that are TV-14-DLV, TV-14-DLS and even TV-14-DLSV... which is somewhat blown up while others are more lewd... what’s holding Cartoon Network back from rerunning Samurai Jack at this point?!

BTW, to promote the episode, I did a fan art sketch of Ice Bear from We Bare Bears pwning one of the daughters of Aku... aside from my other promo tweet.

Parental discretion is advised! This is the most violent episode of Samurai Jack yet! This episode has good “[content to follow]”, but talk to your parents about if you can handle violence maturely or may be too sensitive to bloody images, because this one is the bloodiest. Ironic that this bump appeared after the March 22, 2020 rerun of this episode. Also, while Samurai Jack Season 5 and thus the “complete” series set is rated “M” in Australia for “animated violence and mature themes” (Sym-Bionic Titan bears almost the same rating/reason), which is like a low PG-13, like BBFC’s 12 rating... and while the US DVD of Samurai Jack Season 5 shows not the Canadian Home Video Rating (it mentions TV-14 on the back, and commercials for the “complete” series said TV-14-LV)... the US blu-ray of the “complete series”, due to Season 5, is rated 14A in Canada (Oh, so A+E’s Bonnie and Clyde series gets a PG in Canada regardless of “Gory Scenes” and “Extreme Violence”, but Samurai Jack Season 5 got a 14A?), so... that’s pretty strong. Not as strong as 18A, though, which is what the TV-MA-V episodes of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal earned for its Season 1 release. Seasons 1, 3 and 4 of Samurai Jack are only PG in Canada. Equally important: DON’T SPOIL THE EPISODE!

/!\ SAMURAI JACK This Program is Rated TV-14-V. Intense Violence X

We start with a peaceful flow of the river. Calm and quiet.

Then comes an unusual amount of blood.

That comes from Jack and the sword stuck in him. (I warned you.)

The storyboard artists/writers are listed: Genndy Tartakovsky as always and, instead of Bryan Andrews, a new storyboard artist.

That storyboard artist is David Krentz (Hotel Transylvania 2, Guardians of the Galaxy). Krentz also boarded and wrote the Primal episode “A Cold Death”.

Despite the bloody injury; this sequence has plenty of pretty landscapes. Just the locations and the sound--no music--make for a usually calm, relaxing atmosphere.

This episode opens up with a sonic landscape that is very much aural, and the sounds of nature are handled by sound designer / “Sound Editing” guy Joel Valentine. He is absolutely the next best thing to Skywalker Sound & Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services (AKA Warner Bros. Sound) when it comes to sound post-production for animation. I mean just one guy (save for the uncredited foley team and any other FX recordist, editor or whomever else involved), and no longer the company name “Twenty-First Century Entertainment, Inc.” I grew up listening to his work, knowing what a Craig McCracken or Genndy Tartakovsky cartoon usually sounded like because of Joel’s style, but the realism of the sound design is a big part of why I began to highlight Joel even more for his amazing work.

One noteworthy thing about this episode’s sound is that, when Jack was briefly underwater (though the shot isn’t completely underwater and Jack is unconscious), we only hear the river underwater. This is either a point-of-view (POV) or “teaching the camera to listen” approach to the sound: an important, immersive part of storytelling that sound designer Randy Thom often emphasizes, which was pioneered by Dr. Walter Murch; both worked on Apocalypse Now.

Anyway, Jack was floating unconsciously toward a big waterfall, and he falls into the river below. The sound really plays with flange whooshes, which, though unnecessary, sound pretty cool.

Underwater, Jack is awakened by the pain of his wound.

He rises back to the surface, finding a log to keep him afloat. The day comes to an end, and Jack continues floating through the night. A quiet ambiance of crickets and wind flow gently along.

The next day, Jack passes under a futuristic-looking bridge, lit with blue and green neon lights (my favorite colors too). Miles past the bridge, a frog jumps onto the log. Jack notices.

“THEY’RE COMING!”

Just spoke that frog?! or is Jack hearing things? or seeing things?

Jack tries paddling as fast as he can, but, with the knife still in him, he hasn’t the strength and grows unconscious again.

Suddenly, Jack awakens and is quickly up on his feet. Another day, completely spent flowing, is passed, and Jack is lost.

The pain of Jack’s wound strikes again, and the knife is still stuck in him. The music stings with intense and gritty, electronic percussion. A loon trills distantly in the forest--and not exactly a more familiar (or should I say cliche) recording either.

That is the amazing thing about the sound design: it’s very realistic. Even if the animals sound types could be considered cliche, most of the sounds are not cliche recordings like some stock sound effect from a Sound Ideas or Hollywood Edge SFX library. Most cartoons, with sound services like Hacienda Post or Advantage Audio, will go for more familiar sounds, like with crowds, babies and animals, which’re all vocal sounds. Joel used cliche SFX for such before, but this season of Samurai Jack showcases some of Joel’s most outstanding work. I thank God that Hacienda Post/Sabre Media didn’t the sound design as they might go for something more familiar/cliche.

Jack looks for shelter as he slowly and weakly walks through the forest, apparently now all scratched up too. I wonder: Are the scratches of continuity?

I love this scene because Tyler Bates’ somber score reminds me of Philip Glass’ score for Naqoyqatsi, and the score is the principle audio, among Jack and the foley, not concentrating on animal sounds (which would be cliche).

Fun fact: this episode reran on [as] the evening that Star vs. the Forces of Evil’s season 3 opener, “The Battle for Mewni”, premiered on Disney XD. I watched neither that night, but I loved these shows so much that I drew of Star in Jack’s place. Ironically, the final act of “The Battle for Mewni”, Act 7 - “Toffee”, involved Star in a grave situation of her own (and I wrote an important post about that).

Wherever Jack goes, the shadow warrior continues popping up... somehow.

Luckily, Jack finds shelter: a big, open, rocky cave in which to rest his wounded body. Briefly, at its opening, he appears bloodier than usual for, I guess, stylistic art, though he’s covered in much more blood later.

Now time for the hard part.

Not exactly violent since the knife being stabbed into him was the violence, but...

for a more sensitive viewer, this is probably the hardest scene to watch. If you ever went through pain like this or are sensitive to even the idea of how it feels, you might want to scroll past this moment.

“Ohhhh...”

All right, Jack. Pull it out nice and slow. Gently, now. Easy does it.

“Hrrrrrrrrr!”

It’s almost out, Jack; it’s almost out!

Take it like a MAN, Jack!

”GAAAAAAAAAH!”

Oooh... I felt that.

There. See? It’s out!

Glad that that’s over; right?

Nice, dark, and quiet outside. A soft wind rustles some leaves around. A cricket chirps. The moon sets down over the mountains. Fade to black.

Very simple but effective contrast between scenes.

The next scene begins, fading in and out with closeups of Jack. The fading feels very cinematic and like a filmed master, as the brightest colors fade in first and out last. Jack is uncomfortable and trying to sleep. A voice beckons to him: “Look at you.”

“You survived worse!”

Jack indeed survived in some nearly fatal situations, but this injury is a biggie for Jack. His dark side--now rather “off-model” and looking kind of like Dracula (coincidentally, Craig Kellman designed him for Hotel Transylvania, and Genndy directed it)--was actually talking about the girl that he killed, though, and not the “pathetic little cut” from which Jack was struggling to survive.

Apparently Jack never killed an organic being before. ”Sure, mountains of robot corpses”, his dark side reminds him. I still wonder if everyone Jack cut with his sword, even if they blew not up, were still organic--just not human.

His dark side continued to mess with Jack’s consciousness as he expects that he’d have the obligation to kill the remaining daughters of Aku if they found him. “Will you be able to when the time comes? May be they will kill you!”

“...or is that what you WANT?!”

“No”, Jack groans in defense. The scene fades to black.

That was pretty jarring of even madder Jack, to turn to Jack (at the camera) like that.

Another day begins, nice and sunny.

Jack is in the dark, now covered stylistically in the excess blood from his wound. Quite an artist; huh?

More important: Jack is rested enough for the moment to be ready to defend himself.

He hears feet approaching.

It turns out that the wolf (or whatever breed he is) survived and was covered in his own blood... just like Jack.

Jack lowers his weapon and soon begins to rest.

A past memory returns to Jack’s consciousness. He is a kid again, playing with his wooden samurai and ninja toys in a carriage. His parents glance back at each other with a smile.

These past events of Jack’s childhood are reflected in few episodes of the series, bringing the more familiar scenarios back. This sequence is mostly in scope.

Suddenly, arrows hit the carriage. The guards defend them against the assassins... only briefly.

A bandit speaks: “Emperor, your guards are dead, and you are next!”

“I will give you a new choice: Leave now and live, or stay and face your destiny.”

Jack’s father, the emperor, may be the last line of defense. He kindly offers an option to the bandits: they can either leave in peace and cease from their evil plans, or instead risk their own lives in an attempt for selfish profit.

“Your destiny is DEATH!”

The bandits openly reject this wisdom. The emperor attacks swiftly.

He aimed not for the swords.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

A streak of blood on Jack’s face!

His father slaughtered the bandits, and Jack saw it. All of it; I think.

Well... certainly the one his father split in half before Jack’s eyes.

For the more sensitive viewer: the violence here is stylized only such that there is a fair amount bloodshed, but their bodies’ cuts are not graphic. This would be too violent, still, to be considered “moderate” violence, which much of Cartoon Network’s programming from, like, 2007-2017 occasionally contained.

Jack wakes up quickly, now in a pile of leaves. He looks around. He sees that his wound is more healed with little blood. Jack spots a sharp little pick (a bone maybe?) and some wood.

Time for a little bit of sewing.

Later, Jack wakes up and sees that the beast returned with a dead, dot-eyed bird of some sort. Jack sees him as a possible ally in his time of need.

The two, a man and his “best friend”, share dinner. Probably not a chicken, but sure looks likes a drumstick. I can only imagine how good it probably tastes...

The beast walks in circles and lays to rest.

He burps.

That burp is the 7th belch in Hollywood Edge’s Premiere Edition Volume 1 -PE138601: “Long, disgusting... [and] close perspective”. An obvious stock sound effect that Joel used in the show before, but also a funny one, and it fits. Afterward, Jack does his own burp.

Sometime later, Jack uses mud for his wound. The beast licks the mud off. Jack is all :O

Jack then sees a skull filled with water. He douses the beast to help cleanse the wound, and the beast is provoked. An uneasy alliance, but it works.

At this point, I wonder if Dee Bradley Baker, claimed to be the wolf’s uncredited voice, actually did all of the wolf vocals, since they all sound like that of a real dog to me. I would assume that Joel recorded these or picked any other recording appropriate, though. I personally detest the cliches of wolves known for howling, but this wolf howls not at all in his screen time for these episodes (certainly no use of Disney’s horrible “single, classic” wolf howl here, then). This goes for the wild dogs in Primal: “A Cold Death” as well. I admire that Joel executed this differently than usual cartoon sound designers.

Later, the fire is died out, and Jack is cold. The light sound of probably Phil LaMarr clashing his own teeth together is quietly audible (unlike Jack making either the original H-B spoon rattle or usually Joel Valentine’s castanet sound in seasons 1-4). The beast is asleep, curled up with a cute little snore. Jack groans in his pain. Probably jealous that his front scrub and mane aren’t the same as that furry white coat. Fade to black.

Pop! Somehow Jack awakes huddled with the furry beast.

Kind of reminds me of a big, white fox. It’s way in the future, though.

After sometime, Jack and the beast are healed, and the beast heads off on his own way, while Jack continues reflecting on his childhood.

Blood is still on the sword, but also on a robe that... perhaps became Jack’s? I wonder from where that robe came...

”The decisions you make and the actions that follow are a reflection of who you are.”

“You can not hide from yourself”, his father proclaims. On his father’s wisdom, Jack finds the strength to defend himself against the daughters of Aku. The camera pans back into the forest. Fade out for commercial break.

Meanwhile, the 6 remaining daughters of Aku are in pursuit of Jack, exploring the same path on which Jack went.

One of the assassins finds some blood near the river they were exploring, so they continue following the river.

Their journey takes a day or so as well. One of them keeps watch at night.

The assassins continued by river until they heard a branch snapping; from there they searched through the forest, until...

“Ahwhehhh-aughhhh-EHHHhhh!”

The assassins come to a stop as they hear the call of some creature. and turn around. They hide behind the trees.

“Mother told us there would be other creatures.”

“What.. is that?” one of the assassins asked. They see a deer--this one’s a fawn. I never heard the sound of deer until this scene, with thanks to Joel again. The fawn walks about and nuzzles her nose into the ground.

A rustle is heard nearby.

Another deer--a stag--comes about. One of the assassins noticed the stag’s antlers: “Aku--it is surely one of his minions.”

The deer and stag nuzzle their noses together. This Disney magic lasts not long.

“What madness is this?” one of the assassins asked. “I don’t like it!” another said anxiously, setting foot into the open and scaring the deer away.

A bloody hand print is then spotted, suggesting that the samurai is near.

The daughters of Aku pull their weapons out (from their... suit? Have they even pockets?), and the electronic percussion kicks the music up as the assassins draw closer and closer to Jack. This sequence is boarded by first Genndy Tartakovsky and then by an uncredited, new board layout/artist, @jpolgar1 (here’s some proof), who boarded on Teen Titans & Teen Titans Go! and directed on Thundercats Roar; coincidentally the 10th episode of that series, “The Horror of Hook Mountain”, which premiered the day before EPISODE XCIV reran, was directed by Jeremy Polgar--and also an episode of snowy peril, as is this episode is about to become...

“Life works in strange ways.”

That line is a mystery to me. Should it be a meme?

Slowly, snow begins to fall.

Jack has a lesson to teach them, and his words echo the wisdom that his father taught him: “Leave here now and live, or stay and face your destiny.”

“OUR DESTINY IS YOUR DEATH!!!”

“So I guess you’re staying?”

Jack is fearless, but he instructs the daughters of Aku to reflect on their actions: “The decisions you make and the actions that follow are a reflection of... who you really are.”

By now, the snow and wind have this area so blanketed that the background becomes as white as an animation layout on which to draw cartoon characters.

The camera moves by the assassins...

singularly...

slowly...

one...

by one...

SURPRISE *shink*

Jack kills another daughter of Aku by spear... and then another.

From where got Jack these spears anyway?

Jack runs through the wholly white forest, almost invisible when behind a tree. The ominous, percussive music drives this thrilling chase and fight scene that is the one of the most violent but also epic of fight sequences in the series.

This sequence was boarded roughly by Genndy and then @stephendestefano, who worked with Genndy on Sym-Bionic Titan and the Popeye movie for Sony (which was postponed due to creative differences but resumed production later in May 2020). This’s DeStefano’s first episode, serving the role of Storyboard Layout and maybe storyboard clean-up. “Storyboard Layout” makes sense here as this sequence was probably storyboarded by Genndy Tartakovsky in the form of thumbnail sketches (as Jeremy Polgar pointed out on his storyboard layouts), and DeStefano “plussed” the thumbnail sketches into more solid (but not too solid) drawings of the respective characters.

This is just one of the best action scenes in this sequence with all of these weapons going on and stuff. I want not to spoil all of the action, though. I captured 27 frames from this scene alone on the rerun. This shot also felt fitting for the brief “Snowmageddon” of December 2017, A.D.

From this March 2020 rerun, I got 660+ shots of this episode, and 321 of them involve this major sequence of Genndy Tartakovsky action at its finest. Such fine compositing as motion blurs and camera shakes help to bring it to life.

Jack is a pro at dodging weapons... and in style. It’d be kind of hard for me to write every move that he and the daughters of Aku are making.

4 scenes (in storyboard terms) later, another complex action scene is on fantastic display ( I got 49 from this scene), in which the background/camera moves even more than the last complex scene. So many moves to note, which could serve as great defense (don’t attempt all of this stuff, kids).

As another assassin leaps back from Jack, Jack makes the last of the 3 bloody kills in this episode, nailing her to a tree with one of their knives. Definitely bloody, but not as gory as it could be.

The remaining 3 daughters of Aku line up in such a way that it’s like they can combine as 1, and charge rapidly at the camera toward Jack.

Jack deflects their fierce slashes with one of their weapons in a frenetic display of intense violence.

*scratch scratch scratch scratch*

That’s some attention to detail in the action when you focus on every scratch possible with all of the slashes he’s trying to deflect. (These’re the 4 respective shots combined in a way that they’d usually do; the actual sequence cuts to each of the following 3 shots.)

One quick stop, and Jack is lassoed by one of their chains, propelled into the air (Jack’s pained yell from pulling the sword out is recycled here). He just spins over to a tree, leaps from it, and whacks the 3 assassins apart!

Jack and the daughters are back on their feet in a 3rd scene of complex actiony moves. This one’s in scope, and the animation timing is paced a bit slower (more on 2′s) than the other 2 complex action scenes (might not be Genndy but rather Robert Alvarez and/or Randy Myers for this scene). I got 45 pics from this scene alone.

One of Jack’s moves in this scene is spinning while jumping, which is typically a Bryan Andrews thing in action boards, according to Genndy Tartakovsky on the Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume One DVD commentary. However, David Krentz was in place of Bryan Andrews on this episode.

Jack continues swiping, becoming more and more fierce as the camera eases on him, until he lays the weapon down. He stops to breathe, and the music stops respectively. Why are the daughters of Aku giving him a moment, though?

Jack starts running again, and the assassins follow. The camera focus on the 2 running. First both, then the assassins, then Jack. The music quietly but ominously resumes.

As Jack runs up a big, long tree, the ratio grows from “scope” (like 2.40:1)...

...to 1.78:1, as if it were a pan-and-scan widescreen or IMAX widescreen format. I prefer such cartoons in “scope” widescreen (including the logos, which are only in scope on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but not on Tigtone or Primal) since it feels more cinematic, and the later H-B Tom and Jerry shorts were originally made in “CinemaScope”, though CN aired them in 1.33:1 pan-and-scan. Anyway, this complex shot has 9 main camera poses, as shown in Lou Romano’s layout keys/BG layout design for the scene.

As Jack comes to the end of the tree over a great height, the score grows more ominous in the “orchestral” part. Here, it resembles some of James L. Venable’s music styling.

Jack glares epicly at the assassins (at the camera, again in scope). The music then becomes equally epic and heroic-sounding...

...and Jack drops the weapon, which proceeds to fall in a way that falling objects tend to appear in the digital-era works of Genndy & Craig McCracken: smoothly and digitally growing smaller.

The camera cuts to Jack’s right fist. Then a shot of his left fist slides in.

Both shots of Jack’s clenched fists slide away...

...opening back into a full “scope” shot. Jack stopped killing and is ready to fight them with only his cold, bare hands.

The first assassin up to this challenge charges toward Jack with her spear or something like that. Jack jumps. An anime-like accent is heard. He dodges the blade and kicks her face in slow-motion. Resuming to normal playback, Jack continues dodging every swipe of the blade. He leaps over her and her blade, grabs her, and...

THOT

He just threw her off of the tree. This “thot” became a popular meme for this season of Samurai Jack.

The next assassin charges over with her knives. Accented with big sound and percussion, Jack shut his eyes, trusting his instincts for the right moment to

PUNCH

Just one. He knocked her off with just one punch!

Now for the last one. Jack can take the pain well, though...

Very well indeed.

Jack grabs the chain of the scythe. The assassin jumps off of the tree and swings around back to Jack to knock him off.

The two duel in air below the tree, suspended by the chain...

...and Jack easily manages to knock the assassin with his own feet...

which in turn knocked the mask off.

Turns out that the remaining daughter of Aku is the un-weakest one, Ashi... voice of Tara Strong (you know... Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls? Though I came to respect her strongly for voicing Ilana Lunis as well)

All Ashi does is speaking all manner of hatred for the samurai. I guess that her training was very rough on her because her mother really believed in Aku...

or perhaps Tara Strong was letting a lot of steam out from being replaced by Kristin Li during the recording session for a Season 7 PPG episode (the “reboot” you know).

Jack heard “enough words” for today. Let’s drop it.

Talk about cliffhangers... or should I say cliff-breakers?

I just hope that that log becomes something useful (like a toy), wherever it lands.

This episode is the first to credit “Storyboard Layout” creatives. Only Stephen DeStefano is credited here, but Jeremy Polgar was also part of that, although “Additional Storyboard by” or “additional board artist” would be a more fitting role for Polgar... but, then again, he plussed the thumbnail sketches Genndy did as storyboards, so it was like doing animation/character layout but on the storyboard level. They should go back and credit Polgar for his work! They did that with prop designer Chris Battle on the 2017 print of EPISODE XXV, “Jack and the Spartans”.

The sheet timing on this episode is by both Robert Alvarez and Randy Myers, Cartoon Network’s long-running animation-directing duo, but also Genndy Tartakovsky himself again for the really good action pieces.

This episode’s backgrounds are also painted by @rdaskas (The Ren & Stimpy Show, Spirit, Animaniacs), another former Spümcø artist who was a background stylist for season 3 of Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars micro series. The color stylist of this episode is Chris Hacker (Tangled: The Series, Wander Over Yonder, Mickey Mouse, G.I. Joe: Renegades), responsible for the white, bright and dark color schemes on this episode.

Keone Young is back on the show, voicing the bad guys. As for 3 of the 4 daughters of Aku who speak, I can’t tell which was is which with Ami, Aki and Avi. Phil LaMarr is the voice of talking frog too.

This is the first Season 5 episode copyrighted 2017, as the other/first 2 episodes were finished in 2016. Regular Show ended early in 2017 BTW.

What learned we from the third episode of the 5th season? I hope that the violence was worth it.

Essentially 5 years later, on the same airdate, The Patrick Star Show episode “Survivoring” debuted. Survival was coincidentally subject matter for both that and Samurai Jack EPISODE XCIV. Someone replied to me: “Upon a few hours of thought, this shall forever be known as: The Day of Survival.” I now also refer to this particular day, March 25th, as The Day of Survival.

Let’s Talk #YoungJustice

It is now officially 2019.

Time to start off the new year by talking about a great DC animated show.

Young Justice is better than Teen Titans.

For my thoughts on DC Universe’s Young Justice, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.

Young Justice centers around sidekicks wanting to break away from their respective heroes and form a new group separate from the Justice League. The team (in the first season) mainly consists of Robin/Dick Grayson, Aqualad, Kid Flash/Wally West, Superboy, Miss Martian/Megan/M’gann, and Artemis. Much to their annoyance, they are ordered around by Batman and other League members to resolve small conflicts while the League deal with bigger conflicts. However, they soon discover that several villains are working together as part of a mysterious group simply known as “The Light”.

At first, the show may seem similar to Teen Titans by how they both center around younger heroes. However, Teen Titans is mainly a comedic show with dramatic moments while Young Justice is a far more serious and dramatic take on the characters with the occasional comedic moments. The things the two shows have in common are Khary Payton voicing one of the main protagonists (Cyborg/Aqualad), Robin/Dick Grayson being one of the leaders, and in the second season, Beast Boy (who in Young Justice is regularly called by his civilian name, Garfield Logan) joining the team.

Also, Young Justice actually acknowledges the rest of the DC Universe while Teen Titans rarely featured any adult superheroes and villains (aside from Batman, Deathstroke, and the Doom Patrol).

UPDATE (1/1/2019): As a user has already notified me, there were several adult villains featured on Teen Titans. This was an honest mistake. However, I still stand by how it lacked the involvement of the overall DC universe.

The series was created by Greg Weisman, the creator of Gargoyles and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

His shows have been considered some of the best animated series ever made, as they feature a good balance of comedy and drama, excellent voice casts, and good animation. They are also known for how Disney, either directly or indirectly, has been the cause of their respective cancellations.

The show features a wide range of voice actors, most of whom have previously worked on other DC productions such as Static Shock, Batman: The Brave and The Bold, The Batman, Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, and even the DC Original Animated Films.

The only actor reprising a past role in the show is Bruce Greenwood (of Star Trek (2009) and FOX’s The Resident), who previously played Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman: Under The Red Hood. Despite having similar animation styles, the film and show are set in different continuities.

Other notable voice actors in the show include singer Jesse McCartney as Robin/Dick Grayson, Danica McKellar as Miss Martian/Megan/M’gann, Nolan North as Superboy (and Superman), the aforementioned Khary Payton as Aqualad, Eric Lopez as Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes, and Mae Whitman as Wonder Girl/Cassie Sandsmark.

The first season of Young Justice started off a bit clunky. It was clear that the writers were getting used to writing about these characters. The first half of the season was overall OK and had several weak episodes, but the second half makes up for it with some great episodes that help expand the show’s universe.

The only notable criticism of the season that I can recall involved The Joker in the episode “Revelation”. He was voiced by Brent Spiner, who played Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as Puck on Weisman’s aforementioned Gargoyles.

Spiner’s interpretation appears to be mainly based on his performance as Lore, Data’s evil twin robot from The Next Generation, only with a bit more anger. It is one of the far more decent takes on the character, considering how this was his only major appearance on the show. Also, it could have been much worse.

Spiner’s appearance was also one of many appearances from the stars of Weisman’s past series. From Gargoyles, aside from Spiner, Marina Sirtis (Demona) and Keith David (Goliath) also appeared on the show. Sirtis plays the recurring villain Queen Bee, while David guest starred as Mongul.

While several of the voice actors from The Spectacular Spider-Man have appeared in guest or supporting roles, the titular character’s voice actor Josh Keaton made a guest appearance as the villain Black Spider along with several subtle references to the Marvel superhero.

As for the season’s story arc, it was better presented in the second half by how the series’ villains came together to take over the League.

The second season, subtitled Invasion, is one of the best TV portrayals of the DC universe. Not only does it build up from the first season by bringing back one-time characters and fleshing them out, but it also featured the best interpretation of Jaime Reyes’ Blue Beetle.

This season’s only flaws were the season premiere and how it integrated the heroes from Super Friends and Static into the show. The former felt rushed by how it abruptly jumped five years into the future rather than resolve the cliffhanger, while the latter was frankly the most forgettable part of an otherwise great season.

The finale was really good. The ending is surprisingly tragic for an animated superhero series, with Wally dying and the villains simply moving on to work with an even more powerful villain as if it were just another Monday.

Then it was canceled.

Without going into the reasons why the show was abruptly canceled, which has already been brought up by nearly everyone else, it was disappointing to see the show end on a cliffhanger. Unlike Marvel, whose shows have regularly ended on cliffhangers, DC is normally able to give their series proper conclusions or at the very least leave open for more stories to be told. The 2003 Teen Titans Series Finale, for example, had the latter type of conclusion.

The show’s upcoming revival over at DC Universe is a miracle. While shows being brought back from cancellation is nothing new, the fact that it is coming back nearly six years after it finished airing on Cartoon Network is amazing. Most cancelled show tend to be picked up immediately. The only other shows to compare this with would be American Idol and Last Man Standing, both of which were cancelled and revived more than a year later.

From what has been shown, another time skip will occur and introduce more heroes and villains. In addition, it will now outright state when a character has died, something only previously implied. Because the show is now on an online streaming provider clearly not intended for younger audiences, such as with Titans, it appears that it will have a more mature tone than the first two seasons.

As for the season’s subtitle, Outsiders, it references the obscure superhero group originally founded by Batman that has appeared in varying forms on Batman: The Brave and The Bold and Beware The Batman (coincidentally, two Batman shows which aired alongside this show on Cartoon Network).

Young Justice is a great animated series that is on the same level as shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. It has a great voice cast, excellent animation, good writing, and is an overall great representation of the DC universe.

The first two seasons are available to own on DVD, Blu-ray (via Warner Archive), and iTunes.

Young Justice: Outsiders will premiere this Friday January 4, exclusively on DC Universe... which is only available in the United States.

As of this writing, no announcements have been made about the third season's international availability. The first two seasons, however, are available to watch on Netflix in certain regions.

Microsoft archived ‘Superman’ on its Project Silica glass storage medium

Movie studios archive thousands of movies in their warehouses. But celluloid, the medium onto which master copies are printed, isn't the most stable storage format; it's prone to decay and is highly flammable. Yet, switching to hard drives wouldn't be helpful, since they're so prone to failure. Microsoft's new glass-based storage medium could do the trick. As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. has saved the 1978 version of Superman onto one of Microsoft's Project Silica glass plates, which will supposedly last for centuries.

The goal of Project Silica, which began in 2016, is to create a solution ideal for cold storage -- data that needs to be stored but rarely accessed for long periods of time. Archived master copies of films are usually only taken out of storage for remastering projects. Between their infrequent use and the volatility of celluloid, old movies sitting in studio warehouses are a reasonable use case for Microsoft's glass storage.

Project Silica's glass square that contains Superman measures 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm x 2 mm and holds 75.6 GB of data. That may not sound so impressive given that a dual-layer Blu-ray holds 50 GB on 12 cm disc. But as Microsoft develops the technology, the company is creating discs with higher and higher capacities. Plus, the main benefit of this new medium is longevity and stability, not capacity. Research teams have put the square discs through their paces, ensuring the data is still readable even after baking them in ovens, dunking them in boiling water, heating them in microwaves and scratching them with steel wool.

Brad Collar, Senior Vice President of Global Archives & Media Engineering at Warner Bros. explained to Variety why the studio chose Superman to test Microsoft's technology. Years ago, Collar and his team found audio recordings of a Superman radio play stored on glass discs, but had to find the right playback devices in order to digitize the audio. So when he heard of Project Silica, which also uses glass, he thought of it as "a beautiful full circle."

Project Silica uses lasers similar to the ones used in Lasik eye surgery to burn shapes called voxels into glass. These voxels hold multiple bits of information, unlike the pits and lands on an optical disc, which only hold a zero or one. Additionally, the glass discs can hold many layers; CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays have a maximum of two layers, but Microsoft squeezed 74 layers into the disc that holds Superman. According to Variety, newer discs have even more layers. The data can be accessed by shining a light through the glass and analyzing the reflections with microscope-like readers. A bit-by-bit verification proved that the movie was perfectly written to the medium.

This collaboration between Microsoft and Warner Bros. is just a pilot test. The technology still needs to mature and engineers need to create a unified read/write device similar to today's optical disc burners. Plus, studios aren't about to toss out their millions of film canisters; the original analog versions are arguably a more ideal source material for creating new prints or remastered videos.

TF2 Headcanon - Demo/Spy & Sniper/Scout

Requested by @camiluna27, re: an ask they got about Demo being handsome and the best kisser, bc I was too lazy to make a fic. Written in Chat, so continuity’s a crapshoot.

-Title: Constellation Consternation-

[Alternate title I was too busy laughing at to use: Speaking in Tongues] . . . .

The basic headcanon is that Spy KNOWS he's amazing, but maybe certain teammembers have all mentioned that Demo is The Best at kissing, and a handful of other things (and he's most concerned about Scout knowing that, bu the runner is really just yanking his chain and parroting what Sniper told him about the explosives expert).

Fed-up, Spy goes to confront the guy over this whole seducing his son and the rest of the team, nonsense. Openly outraged at such impropriety in their ranks. Demo listens, nodding along to each complaint and french curse with a deadpan expression, trying not to smile at the idea he'd stolen poor little Scout's innocence and Spy was (in the most roundabout way possible) trying to defend his son's honour.

But really, he knew what this was about.

When Spy finally stops talking, he tilts his head, grins and says, "So ye're jealous I hadnae gotten around to ye faster, is that it?"

And Spy reels for a moment before stuttering out something most likely blistering in French, and glaring.

"I'll take that as a yes, then, laddie?" Demo leans back in his chair a long moment, sincerely trying not to laugh at the whole scenario, then stands up. "Well, you know ye could have just asked, right?"

"I would never degrade myself to do such a thing," Spy snarls back, suddenly questioning why he even came.

"The asking, the kissing, or the fact you're seething with jealousy that I got to ye last, Spook?" Demo responds, backing the other into a verbal corner.

Spy's expression hardens as he tries to find a verbal retort; though the temptation to flip the bird at the Scot and cloak was incredibly tempting. The worst part was he got the impression that the man was right... and that would sincerely mean he'd lost control of himself and his sanity.

He was the one who did the seducing, had people unconsciously adoring him, wondering what it would be like if he was to-... and he'd leave it open to interpretation. It was also a challenge, and he disliked someone claiming to be more skillful than himself.

Indeed, there may be some other personal motivations, but still... Spy must be the best. Ironically, he was the one who nearly jumped out of his skin when Demo suddenly appeared closer than before, placing a hand to his shoulder. Spy must have gotten lost in thought, been quiet for far too long for the other to think of invading his personal space so significantly.

"I know I'm a lot to take in, lad, but do ye want a drink to help you get over the shock of wanting tae kiss a Scotsman?" Demo offers, half-jesting, but still holding a bottle of Scrumpy in his free hand.

Spy actually snaps out of his pensive stupor to laugh at that; unfortunately, it just so happened to be the ugly laugh he tried to bury all those years, much to his horror. "Oh, mon amie, I do not think that will be necessary... but the offer is appreciated." he finally says, switching on the suave tone he usually uses, as if that will erase all the deplorable lack of decorum from before(um).

"Alright then lad..." Demo beams, sliding the hand on Spy's shoulder up to caress the man's masked cheek. "How about we skip right to the fun part and compare abilities, aye?"

Spy's lips quirked up in amusement, before snaking a hand around to the other man's nape, guiding them closer together. "Oh oui, I can give you a few pointers..."

Sniper, on the other hand, had not exactly been lying about how great Demo just so happened to be at kissing, and quite a few other things. Which had a tendency to put his boyfriend on edge, seeing as Scout wasn't going to admit it, but he was pretty insecure about a lot of things and therefore was twice as loud and flashy to cover over it.

When the mercs had originally banded together, it'd downright pissed Sniper off; not to even mention the others, who were less laid back, overall. But it didn't take the world's most skilled psychologist to work out the reason.

To be fair, Sniper had definitely messed around with a few of the others over the years... but Scout had been hung up on Miss Pauling, so he'd seemed off limits for casual fun. Not to mention, like the other mercs, they saw Scout as kind of this brash, bignoting brat when he arrived... and even daring to glance at physique made them feel old, mortal and vaguely guilty.

Perhaps it was the fact he came off as emotionally immature, a child at heart... and 'at behaviour' if that was a thing. Medic had clearly tried to make it so, in his documentation of the matter.

But since he'd settled into the team, the kid had... dunno, grown up a little? Sniper couldn't think of a more delicate way to say it, really. Didn't change who Scout was at heart, 'cause he was this great big ball of energy and enthusiasm and sometimes bad ideas like whether he could do a backflip off the base roof and land safely (he couldn't), but he did have a slightly more mature outlook on things. It was in the way he thought before he spoke, unless riled up; how he tended to act more strategically than before, worked with the team instead of racing ahead and dying a thousand times to get to the intel or capture a point.

Sniper could appreciate the change, and so did many of the others. However, Sniper was the one that Scout attached to most strongly from day one for some reason... and that'd been fine.

At first he'd been under the assumption that the kid either needed a quiet person to vent to, or just some sort of pseudo father figure... But then he realised that Engie was clearly playing 'Pa' with the kid (and Pyro), and if the runner wanted to speak to someone who wouldn't respond, he could have talked with any of the others. Sniper was the one person who actively listened when Scout talked, and responded; the others were... well, busy, and often commented they did not have time.

But the longer you work with someone, especially as closely as RED did, the more you knew them. Their eccentricities and insecurities; strengths and flaws.

Scout was personally offended that Sniper had vegemite on his toast of a morning; specially shipped in by Mann Co. as an 'essential supply' for the aussie. And Sniper was often infuriated to find Scout had left stuff all over the base, in a subconscious effort to remind them all he still existed.

But all that downtime moved them from teammates to friends, to... whatever this was. Not quite lovers yet, there were a few hangups. Mostly Scout over-analyzing the whole thing and wondering if he'd ever liked Miss Pauling at all, or he'd led her on...

Sniper had made Spy explain the very concept of bisexual to the stressed out runner, so he'd stop agonising over the whole 'attraction to both' thing. To be fair, he's pretty sure the topic had just never come up in Boston... after all, the runner's third-eldest sibling had a boyfriend, and the family was totally fine with it. He was tying himself in knots for no reason.

But then, Sniper could relate. He used to overthink things to the point of near paralysis, when he was younger; sometimes even now, if he was too stressed out or they'd had a really bad match. The rest of the team would just designate someone to go out and stargaze with him, until it wore off; usually Scout, but Demo did it frequently too.

Because that was how his Mum had managed to snap him out of it. They'd go outside, stare up at the stars, and she'd point out constellations and celestial stories until all the constricting thoughts just ebbed away.

And after the first few times on base, it just became normal practice for a stressed-out merc to come out to the Camper at night, say nothing, and have Sniper usher them to the roof ladder. He'd tell them stories, point out constellations, even ones they'd done a thousand times before... because it was soothing. The main issue was getting everyone off the roof, when (usually the stressed out party) conked out from emotional exhaustion.

Sniper now had a box up there, bolted on so it didn't fall off whilst driving, full of blankets an stuff. Made the whole thing a little less stressful.

Just had to get up before morning, though, or you got a wicked sunburn. Engie was working on some sort of automatic sunshade rig to shield any late-night worriers when the sun rose; but it was still in progress for now.

Still, it was his favourite thing to do with the runner. Especially when it was just the two of them there because they wanted to be... no stress between them. It felt... right, had for a long time.

The insecurities were a hang-up though. Sniper had realised things had changed when Scout slowly, painfully slowly, took his hand, a few months back while staring up at the stars. Could feel how tense the runner was, like he was going to bolt if Sniper even breathed wrong. To be honest, it'd been a bit since someone had wanted to hold his hand, high school maybe?

Still, it was a thrill of unexpected warmth, intimacy. And he slowly, just as painfully slowly, gave the bandaged hand a reassuring squeeze; hearing the runner exhale in relief and just about deflate beside him. They'd woken up leaning against one another, and sunburnt as a crisp; Medic had found it HILARIOUS as he treated them.

Sniper never should have brought up the Demo thing. He'd only been joking with the others about it, one night when everyone was a bit drunk, a bit less guarded about the things they said.

He thinks that was the night Demo finally managed to seduce the stoically insular Heavy/Medic duo... but he can never be sure. Not that switching it up between the mercs was inherently wrong, or even seen as promiscuous... they'd been here years, relationships formed and fell apart 'secretly', and flings happened. The only real issue was if someone from BLU was making eyes at a RED; and vice versa. That had to be dealt with before the Admin found out. But as far as they knew a few people had gone out of their way to subvert the no-interaction clause in their contracts... just because they could, and also... predominantly because it was thrilling.

Sniper was incredibly aware of what the Scouts had done, and he's pretty sure the other Sniper was too. Scopes, and all. But was the battlefield really a good place for that sort of thing? Scout still hadn't admitted making out with the other runner, and neither had the BLU to his team. Sniper really wanted to ask why, but he's pretty sure it's the same reason he saw Spy seducing the BLU Sniper in July last year at Vanguard...

...because they could.

What else was there to do around here... but each other? That is to say, breaking rules was fun.

But even with all that daring action out there, most agreed that Demo was the best at what he did. And he's pretty sure Scout was developing as much of a complex about it as his father...

Sniper really should have checked if the runner was there before joking about it with Engie. Now he couldn't even get the lanky bloke to hold hands, it was pretty frustrating.

He'd told Demo, on a night when the explosives expert had come to visit him at the camper to stargaze, with an obscene amount of booze; the logic behind it being there were twice as many constellations if you were drunk enough. The Scot had laughed, thought about it, and asked if he should try to woo 'the loud lad' to fix it. Even though it was in jest, Sniper had gotten defensive over it, and turned it down.

"I was kidding lad..." Demo had reassured. "For one, I think maybe Spy has taken a fancy to me but he dinnae know it yet, and it'd be weird to mention I'd Frenched his son... or, well, half-Frenched, his mother's American, aye?"

Sniper burst out laughing at the statement, and Demo took the opportunity to sneak away the fourth bottle of beer, deeming the Aussie a tad too drunk to climb down from the roof safely as it stood.

"What I meant was... if you and the others are always talking up my abilities, to other blokes who have a lot of experience with other lasses and lads and a few inbetween... then how would it make ye feel if you had none of it?" Demo questioned, sobering the conversation for a bit. He grinned, "Oh aye, I know about the Scout Class' attempt at snogging on the battlefield the other day, caught 'em by accident as I jumped past. But that isnae more or less experience than high school fumbling about when ye think your parents aren't watching. And to have to follow someone like me, well, I don't think he's comfortable with the idea... not yet, at least."

"Huh..." was all Sniper managed, suddenly realising a few things. He scratches the stubble on his chin, pensive. "So what should I do about it?"

"Oh that's easy... just tell the lad everyone's a bit shithouse when they first start out, and it's like those video games he likes... you've gotta learn how through experience to, uh, level up." Demo grins, nudging Sniper with his elbow in camaraderie, before immediately grabbing the sharpshooter so he wouldn't topple over from the impetus. No sense of balance when he's drunk, Sniper.

"Thanks mate."

"Aye, no problem. Now, did I tell you about what I managed to do to that bloody BLU Spy today? Well, everytime Engie left spawn the bastard would..."

The tale echoed out into the night as the two men exchanged light-hearted stories of the more hilarious murders and deaths they'd experienced during that day's battle.

Of course it was on top of the van, when it happened. Most things of importance tended to happen there...

After a long fortnight of no contact whatsoever, Scout was suddenly on his roof, snuggled in a blanket and staring up. Sniper saw it was his chance to talk things over with him, and climbed up slowly. Remaining in sight the entire trip.

"Hey..." Scout mumbles, not looking at him.

"G'day," Sniper returns, he doesn't like saying it much because it's a stereotype, but Scout always seemed to like it. "Nice night. Mind if I sit?"

"S'your van, Snipes..." Scout's still distant, mentally if not physically, Sniper realises.

He sits beside the runner.

"Look, you might know a few of the other guys... have spent time together in the last few years. Not all of them were flings, but they weren't long enough for any of us to start getting anniversary gifts over. And yeah, I might have had a thing with Demo a few times... and some of the others... but it doesn't mean I have any expectations from you."

Scout's eyes widened, and Sniper realised he needed to rephrase that statement.

"Calm down, bilby, I mean... everyone's different. Some people have a lot of experience in some areas, and others don't... but everyone starts off at zero, right? I mean, were you born playing baseball? Nah, you learned how, and you got better. Probably fucked up a few times, hit the ball the wrong way, fell on your arse, knocked over the wickets, got distracted running towards the goal before you could get a touchpoint-... what?" Sniper pauses.

Scout's laughing pretty hard. "Y-you don't know how baseball wo-works do ya, Snipes?" He's just about in tears at this point, pink-cheeked and gasping for air between gales of laughter. He's never looked more adorable.

Sniper lets out a slight huff of amusement. "I know how to Sports, Scout. There's a ball, and running, sometimes sticks and you score a touchpoint if you get the wicket in the goal or something..." he says, getting it more wrong with every word just to see Scout continue laughing like that. Carefree and relaxed.

"Oh my god, I can't-... Snipes... oh my god... I am teaching you baseball next time we get a weekend free... 'touchpoint'." Scout was in hysterics, leaning against Sniper as he tried to catch his breath. Every now and again he'd wheeze 'touchpoint' to himself, and start laughing all over again.

It took a while for the runner to calm down. He wipes his eyes on bandaged hands, an errant wheezy giggle escaping now and then, but finally relaxes against Sniper. Who can't resist any longer and pecks him on the forehead. To which, the runner squirms and complains like a little kid.

"Aw man, Sniiiiiiiiiiipes, Ma used to do that in front of all my freakin' friends... you have no idea how much I never heard the end of it..." Scout whines, turning to look at the Aussie. The bandaged hand closest grabs hold of Sniper's own, and the grip is rock-solid, like the smiling runner is making a decision.

"I uh, I ain't as good as Demo... probably shit at it really, but would you mind if we, uh... fuck, I had a whole thing for this but now all I can think about it 'touchpoint'..." Scout nearly chokes suppressing a laugh at the word again.

He really was pretty fucking adorable when he was like this, Sniper grinned. "You don't need to ask, Scout, it's fine... 'course we can." He assures, and moves in closer, watching for any signs that they were about to have a loony-tunes moment... where he'd lean in to give the runner a kiss and find nothing but a Scout-shaped cloud of smoke. Wouldn't past the speedy merc.

But no, Scout's still there when their lips meets. He seems to have some idea how it all works, which is a surprise, but Sniper tries to lead things in a direction that will circumvent clashing teeth. A hazard of excited teenage make-outs...

It was pretty good, all things considered, and he could see that realisation dawning all over Scout's face. Slightly flushed, a little chocked, and grinning as they pulled away.

"See? You're pretty good at it... just need a bit more practice and you'll be right as rain." Sniper says, putting an arm around the runner's shoulders and delighting in the way Scout leaned back against him.

There was a lengthy silence, which was starting to concern the sharpshooter, before Scout spoke up.

"...I dunno, Snipes, it wasn't that great..." he pauses, just long enough for Sniper to become slightly alarmed and a tiny bit offended, before continuing. "Think we might need a loooot of practice..."

The aussie sharpshooter chuckles, kisses the smartass on the forehead just to watch him squirm away laughing, and says, "Much as you want, mate."

Spy left Demo's room the next morning, striving desperately for immaculate attire despite the evidence of rumpling. He straightened his tie as Engineer and Medic came around the corner, talking animatedly, only to pause and look at the espionage agent with expressions of incredulity.

They looked at him, his attire, the class symbol on the door behind him, and then back to Spy, with growing grins of amusement.

Spy snorts derisively. "If you think I look sufficiently dishevelled, you should see the other guy..." and walks off, not even bothering to cloak. Pleased to have won, if not the kissing segment of their little game, then the other various challenges instead.

When the pair finally do come face-to-face with one another again, that day, everyone in the room is suddenly Very Busy and Definitely Not Listening.

"Lad, ye've one-upped me in some areas and that was a surprise... but I'm pretty sure I still hold the title for best kisser on base..." Demo announces, grinning.

Spy closes the book he had been reading, carefully placing it down on the sofa before standing up to look Demo right in the eye. "Oh, you still cling to that notion, do you?"

"I won, ask any of the others, I'm good at what I do, Spook..." goads the explosives expert, making a sweeping gesture at the few other mercs gathered in the common room.

"Truly?" Spy says, appearance utterly nonchalant. And then the man smiles almost predatorially, and Demo knows he has him.

"Round Two, then?" Demo queries.

"Oui... but let us have dinner together first, like civilised people." Spy responds, heading for the kitchen.

It takes the other man a moment to catch up, and it hits him like a lightning bolt. The last the other mercs saw of Demo that night was the man racing out of the room, after Spy, yelling, "Did ye just ask me on a date, Spook?"

To which the answer was a slightly distance-muffled "Oui."

When Scout and Sniper finally came inside half an hour later, no one would look them directly in the eye or explain where the missing mercs were.

Yuki’s Story Chapter 88 - Yuki’s Assembly

Chapter 88 Yuki is working in her job. She is with the boss for assignment. Boss: Yuki. I would you like to work on the children store. Kids are collecting the new Bear's Mansion toys and they want the store to stay clean. Yuki: Really? Boss: Yeah. They really want someone from our apartment for a help. Yuki: You can count on me, boss. She arrives to the children's store. Yuki: I see a couple of people. She went inside and sees a lot of Bear's Mansion toys. Yuki: Woah! They're really selling the toys very heavily right now. She goes around, and cleans up the shelves. While Yuki was cleaning, she sees the TV playing video clips of Bear's Mansion. Yuki: They're playing it. She hears the song. Yuki starts shaking. Yuki: I gotta act natural, but I can't resist the show around me. She looks around the toys, and the TV playing. Yuki: I...must...act...my normal self...can't...resist... She gets illusions of toys being alive and smiling at her. Bear: Yuki! We're special here this week. You better not miss out. Yuki: ...I...need...to be...mature...here... Later, Taru, Yuki's co-worker, is heading to the store and sees Yuki giving goodbye to a family. Yuki: Make sure you watch the new episode of Bear's Mansion this weekend! She goes inside and Taru heads inside. Yuki is seen cleaning the shelves as quickly as she can so she can watch the clips from the store's TV and look at the toys. She starts talking to him in fast speech. Yuki: Umm...I was just looking for the toys for my family. I had them being a real fan of the show. It's just that... She starts talking normal and admits the truth. Yuki: You saw the whole thing, right? Taru: I did see you running in places, looking at toys and looking at the TV. Yuki goes red. Yuki: He..he. I couldn't resist the show I watched as a kid. I know it's weird for a tough woman to have this childish habit. I get it. Taru: Well, your obsession got you to clean the store quickly. Yuki: This place has a nostalgic feel. This was my secret. A mom and a boy are next to them. Lady: Do you have the bear with white fur? Yuki: The one with rainbow on the stomach and musical notes on the feet? Boy: Yes! That one. Yuki: It's by the TV at the corner. Lady: Thanks. They left. Taru: So you're a huge fan of it. Yuki: Yes. I am a fan of other couple of shows, like My Hero Academia. Taru: Cool. The boss sent me to tell you that your shift has ended. Yuki: How come? Taru: So much change. New employees and demands. They have to get rid of few temporarily. Yuki: That's weird. Taru: So shall we talk outside about, your secret? Yuki: Sure. Let me get something. Yuki gets the calendar and the blu-ray volume of Bear's Mansion. She goes to the cashier and sees one laughing. Cashier: Hehe. I see you still have a passion on a toddler's show. Yuki: Yeah, yeah. I like the show. I get it. Go laugh. Later, she sits with Taru outside. Yuki: I got a few things. Taru: I knew it. Yuki: Well, I see you're accepting it. Taru: I don't mind actually. Many people have their own personal secrets. Yuki: What is yours? Taru: I am embarrassed to tell others, but I'm a fan of Pretty Cure. I watched it since I was a kid. Yuki: A girly habit. I see. My boyfriend likes those shows too. Taru: Cool. Well, what got you to blow your cover of liking Bear's Mansion? Yuki: First off, the store has a weekly special theme so most of it are Bear's Mansion merch. Parts of the department has limited editions. Taru: Limited editions are often valuable. Yuki: Yep. Also, I got huge thing in school that's been going on for about three weeks. A group pantsed me in public, and what they saw is considered childish. Since then, everyone questioned me if I have a childish secret or that I wanted to stay a child because I turned 18 already. I kept denying that I do, but I don't want them to know the rest. Taru: Wow. I feel sad for you. You said you are popular, so does that mean you're very unpopular? Yuki: Kind of. I'm more of an average student, but they still are suspicious. I told my boyfriend and few closest friends that I like the show because I watched it recently. They respected it. Taru: That's nice. What's the reason they are still against you? Yuki: At my birthday, I told them I wanted to be an adult to do cool adult things. I own a car, and brought mature video games. I'm an all around tomboy, so many of my habits are considered masculine and rough, and being a athletic performer got me popular. What's left of me is I have a few things that are seen as childish, like Bear's Mansion or keeping a teddy bear I got as a toddler. Taru: I think that's everyone's secret. Their childhood toy. Wow, that's why they don't take you seriously anymore. I can't believe that whole thing happened. Yuki: Yeah. I'm still thinking of a way to be redeemable, but I couldn't think of a possible way to do it. Taru: It's gonna be hard. They stay silent for a little to think. Taru: I think I got an advice for you, but first, tell me what you got so far? Yuki: Okay. Yesterday, I got few of my friends to share our personal secrets. We're thinking of doing some assembly where we share personal secrets, but I don't know how to do it. Taru: Hmm...That may be a bit challenging. My advice would be, you should admit you may have those habits, and say something like you aren't the only senior who is having those secrets. Maybe make others feel comfortable to admit their secrets. Yuki: I see. It sounds nice. Maybe that is the last puzzle of the plan. Taru smiles. Taru: That can go well, I hope. Yuki: Me to. Thanks, buddy. Taru: You're welcome. They both shake hands. Yuki: I'll tell you how it went. Taru: Okay. Two days later in school, Minoru, Retasu, and Ayano are in the gym after school. Retasu looks at the clock. Retasu: Now it's time for dismissal! Minoru: Good. I'm glad we wrote flyers and put them around the school. Ayano is holding one of them that says "Yuki's Secret's Uncovered". Ayano: You're sure it's gonna help Yuki get more respect? Minoru: I hope. Yuki wanted to do this. They see Team Phase coming from the main door from the gym with the rest of the people behind them. They went up to the stage, and talks to Retasu. Hiroshi: So, are you guys gonna share Yuki's secrets? Retasu: No Yuki will. Kaname: This better be good. Lila: Where is Yuki? Retasu: She's coming. After everyone is inside, Yuki comes out fron the door from the other side and runs to the stage. Hiroshi: This will be about time. Yuki sees her friends. Yuki: Guys, can you come up here? Minoru: Sure. They go on the stage and goes far behind Yuki to see her deliver her speech. She holds the microphone. Hiroshi: You got secrets you've been hiding from us? Yuki: Listen! Everyone looks at Yuki. Yuki: Look. I know you guys saw me wore that teddy bear underpants few weeks ago, and that was childish of me, and it was wrong. Lila: Yeah, it was. Mizuro: We thought you want to be an adult. Yuki: To tell you the truth, I wanted to be an adult, but I didn't want anyone to find out that I have...few things that are considered childish. Yuki: You guys have the right to laugh at me. At times, I acted immature with you guys before just to have fun, and you guys used to laugh. I still remember some of you told me certain secrets that I never expose. I really want to be an adult, despite a few things I like and have. I wanted to be cool, and perform really cool stunts you guys used to love. Kyanna raises her hand. Yuki: Kyanna! Kyanna: I got a secret! I own a doll when I was a little girl, and I still have it! Yuki: Wow. Nice one, girl! Hiroshi: Yuki! You are not gonna get your audience back! Yuki: Oh really? I bet you guys have your own secrets. Maybe you guys like a toddler's show, own a babyish toy, or wearing a childish underwear. Do any of you guys wonder if these clowns have those secrets? Lia sneaks in and pulls Kaname's skirt and pants. It showed her wearing pony rainbow style boxers. Kaname: LIA!!!! Everyone gasped, and starts laughing at her. Yuki: HAHAHAHA! Wow! Kaname sees Rin filming her. Kaname: RIN!!! STOP IT GUYS!!! She puts back her school uniform. Kaname: Why are you guys laughing? (talking to Yuki and her friends.) Yuki: Oh. I'm not laughing because you got pantsed. I'm laughing at a hypocrite who got pantsed. Kaname: DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS EVER AGAIN!!! Lila: Stop it guys! Rin puts down her phone and Lia backs off. Yuki: Wow! I'm surprised you guys have a secret after all. Everyone starts laughing at Kaname. Kaname: OWWWW!!! FORGET IT!!! YOU GUYS WILL REGRET IT ONE DAY! Kaname runs away and left the gym. Team Phase went up the stage. Hiroshi: What is wrong with you? Yuki: Hey. We're having a laugh here. They get to know my secrets, and my friends' secrets. Lila: That is not funnny. You are not supposed to get us back! Yuki: I didn't expect Kaname to wear something childish, from a hypocrite that is. Hiroshi grabs the mic. Hiroshi: Guys! Do you still think Yuki's childish? Remember the prank? Remember she screams like a girl? Everyone starts giving sympathy to Yuki. Boy1: Wow. We really made fun of the girl we used to root for. Girl1: It seems like those guys are against people having secrets. Hiroshi: You guys laughed at her! Yuki: Well, it's over, dude. They got a point. I won't be surprised if you're wearing girly boxers. Everyone laughs at them. Hiroshi: No I'm not! He looks at his crew. Hiroshi: Let's get out of here. Lila: This got lame. Mizuro: So much! They left the gym. Yuki: Well, I will forgive you guys. To be truth, I wanted to be an adult. Sure, I have few childish habits that would stick with me, but I never lied about being an adult. I won't go against any of you if same story happens to you. You have your own secrets, I have mine. They see her audience clap for her. Yuki looks around the crowds. Girl2: You're right! Yuki sees that she got her popularity back, but she seems curious. She grabs the mic again. Yuki: Guys! I am glad you guys have been interacting with me and attending my games, but I got to tell you guys something. The crowds listens and stops the noise. Yuki: I realize that popularity is cool, but I want to take a break from doing big activities. People look at each other, talking. Yuki: I wanted to experience of being a normal school kid like many of you guys. When I was exposed, I thought being an average student would be downwards, but it's actually fun. Boy2: Hmm. Do you want to leave popularity? Yuki: No. I just need a break. I won't quit doing sports activities or perform any games. I got a life. I want to do other things I didn't do yet. Life's short. We're five months before graduation, and this is us, seniors, our last year of Fujiwara. Girl3: She's right. Boy3: I actually want to attend after school more often. Yuki: Besides, I got homeworks, so I gotta cut some activities away temporarily. I do want to have fun, but responsibilities and friendships come first. That's what most teens and adults needs to learn. I'm still gonna do tricks and games in gym class. It's just I need to be in other places. Being in twelve grade is the busiest of high school. I'm sure you guys are thinking the same thing. Hope you guys have a good day. Yuki left the stage and left the gym with her friends as her crowds are watching. Boy1: She seems to become more responsible. Girl1: I feel bad for laughing at her. Boy2: She said she forgives us. They started leaving the gym. Lia and Kyanna are by the front gate, talking. Kyanna: So Yuki switched classes from performing talent to study hall? Lia: Yeah. She's got homework to do there. Kyanna: That doesn't mean she is quitting her popularity, right? Lia: Nah. She's becoming an adult. Even though we saw the prank, of what she wore, and admitted to us she likes Bear's Mansion, she founds what's best for her. She's maturing. Kyanna: Wow. You're right. Lia: Yep. I gotta admit, I like Bear's Mansion. Kyanna: Well, you heard my secret. Lia: Yeah. Everyone's got secrets. Later, Yuki hears a knock on her door. Yuki: Who's at the door? She opens the door and sees Lia. Yuki: Lia! Lia: Yuki. You're not busy? Yuki: I already did my homework. Lia: Good. Behind Lia, Yuki sees Minoru, Ayano, and Leo coming. Yuki: Did you invite them? Lia: Huh? She turns around. Minoru: Hey Yuki! Yuki: Hey guys! Lia: Okay, I called them. Can we watch Bear's Mansion? Yuki is surprised. Yuki: Bear's Mansion? Lia: Yeah! You're not the only grown up who likes the kiddy show. Yuki: Well, okay. Let's go! They went to her room and watch Bear's Mansion together.

Next Chapter: Yuki's Guilt. Yuki enjoys her time with her friends. She cares about them. However, Team Phase is targeting at least couple of her friends. Yuki doesn't want any of her friends to be mistreated. What will her guilt be? Tune in next time!

Team Fortress 2 but with Golden Wind/Vento Aureo characters

I’ve been watching some Team Fortress 2 gmod vids and since I have a slight JJBA GW/VA obsession, I thought I would make a list.

On the anti-heroic BLU Team, we have:

· Scout – Narancia Ghirga; Narancia is rather cocky and arrogant (as well as VERY short-tempered to the point of whipping out his switchblade knife if angered, which is often), and he is pretty tiny, so he fits the role perfectly.

· Soldier – Bruno Bucciarati; Well, he is strong in both offense and defense (._.)

· Pyro – Sheila E.; I only have one reason for giving her the role of Pyro, and it’ll all be explained below.

· Demoman – Leone Abbacchio; what? The guy has a drinking problem that he mostly keeps under control.

· Heavy – Guido Mista; Mista is the most comical of the team and will likely use Sex Pistols to direct the bullets, since he usually serves as the team’s enforcer.

· Engineer – Pannacotta Fugo; Fugo has an IQ of 152 and when not upset (which is WHEN he gets hotheaded and violent) he’s usually polite, mature, friendly, and caring.

· Medic – Coniglio; I know this seems controversial, but I decided on giving this character the role of medic instead of Giorno (don’t get me wrong; I did consider on giving the Medic role to Giorno at first). For those of you who don’t know Coniglio is, she is from Golden Heart, Golden Ring, a (dubiously canon) light novel taking place after the gang betrayed the Boss, written by Miya Shotaro and Gichi Otsuka, and illustrated by the Hirohiko Araki himself, released in Japan on May 2001 and three years later in Italy. Her Stand is The Cure (named after the English rock band), an adorable gem-encrusted rabbit capable of healing any injury or disease almost instantly. However, should it absorb too much pain, it’ll grow into a gigantic subhuman rabbit and go berserk, with it growing stronger the more it gets hit until Coniglio calls out to it to calm it down. To me its berserker state sounds like the OP version of the Ubercharge.

· Sniper – Giorno Giovanna; Giorno likes to observe and analyze his enemies from his rifle scope, prefers subtle tactics to take down enemies that don’t draw too much attention, and he can turn his bullets into plant matter to trap his enemies for him to annihilate.

· Spy – Cannolo Murolo; with his Stand All Along Watchtower, Cannolo makes the perfect spy for the team.

On the anti-villain RED Team, we have:

· Scout – Formaggio; that guy’s quick on his feet and able to improvise. With Little Feet, he’ll sizeshift to dodge enemy attacks. Then there’s the fact that Formaggio is a cocky son of a bitch.

· Soldier – Gelato; it could just be me, but his uniform looks pretty military to me. Then there’s the fact that Gelato is a deranged lunatic alongside Sorbet according to Illuso.

· Pyro – Pesci; He’s the most soft-hearted member of La Squadra (unless you gravely injured Prosciutto, then you’re fucked), and Pyro seems to the nicest member of the Team Fortress 2 Classes aside from their insanity.

· Demoman – Ghiaccio; well, his temper is indeed explosive (*ugly wheeze*). Aside from the pun, there exists a dry ice bomb that Ghiaccio can use.

· Heavy – Risotto Nero; seriously, this guy might be officially tall at a whopping SIX FEET AND EIGHT FREAKING INCHES, so he’s very much a muscular giant. If you somehow manage to survive this guy’s hail of machine gun fire, depending whether you have the guy’s bullets imbedded in you or not, Risotto will use Metallica to turn you into a bullseye target at best or a human pincushion at worst.

· Engineer – Sorbet; this may seem weird to have Sorbet be the Engineer, but TF Industries sells all manners of deadly, cutting-edge devices to prospective buyers, and Sorbet is definitely motivated by money, not to mention being a lunatic like Gelato. IDK I’m just running low on ideas.

· Medic – Melone; that guy might have a degree in human genetics. After all, he has a mad scientist shtick going on.

· Sniper – Prosciutto; Prosciutto is all about professionalism. Both he and the Sniper are affably evil, as Prosciutto genuinely cares for Pesci and recognized Bruno’s worth as Capo, and the Sniper’s credo about his work as an assassin ("Be polite, be efficient; have a plan to kill everyone you meet.")

· Spy – Illuso; that mofo would be the type of person to spam Electro Sappers onto the enemy Sentries, driving Fugo nuts and usually earning the ire of Shelia E., who usually uses her flamethrower to light him on fire like a roast pig.

Meanwhile, Diavolo is the commander of both teams, with Trish Una (as Ms. Pauling) and Doppio assisting him.

Taylor-Johnson is pretty good as the geeky teenager who wants to be a superhero but the standout is Moretz. She plays this part with maturity beyond her years and reminded me of a young Natalie Portman (The Black Swan) in The Professional. Peters and Duke are also pretty good in their smaller roles as typical teenage boys.

The colors of the superhero costumes pop nicely creating a contrast from the dark backgrounds of the scenes shot at night.
