Caractéristiques phonologiques de l'accent québécois

J'ai toujours aimé le français québécois. J’avais 12 ou 13 ans quand j’ai appris (brièvement) de la province à l’école et je me souviens d’avoir pensé “pourquoi on n’entend pas parlé souvent de cette communauté francophone sur notre propre continent quand il s’agit de la langue française ? C’est bien plus proche que la France.” Au cours de mon voyage d’apprentissage de français, cette pensée m’est restée et s’est manifestée éventuellement par un accent québécois.

Mais Aurélia, comment est-ce qu’un nerd de langues avec des moyens financiers minimaux peut développer un accent québécois sans jamais avoir voyagé au Québec ? C’est une bonne question. Voici comment je l’ai fait.

Avertissement: je ne suis pas linguiste et je n’ai pas non plus de formation universitaire en linguistique (ou pantoute, mdr)

Je devrais clarifier que ce post va se concentrer sur les différences de prononciation et moins de vocabulaire, puisque j’utilise encore des termes plus “européens” ça et là. Mon objectif est de garder mon français aussi québécois que possible, alors si tu es québécois et tu remarques que j’écris un mot que les québécois n’utilisent pas, laisse-moi un commentaire, s’il te plaît.

Il faut aussi mentionner qu’il y a plusieurs accents québécois et j’admets que je ne suis pas pleinement éduquée sur toutes leurs nuances. Celui que j’utilise et que je décris ci-dessous et une prononciation basée sur l’accent de l’ouest du Québec, plus ou moins près de la région de Montréal. Bref, c’est ce que j’entends sur Radio-Canada. Si tu es québécois et tu remarques des particularités que je décris qui s’utilisent dans une autre région, laisse-moi un commentaire. :) [Note: le langage qu’on utilise sur Radio-Canada est très formel et standardisé et n’est pas une vrai représentation du langage courant au Canada.]

Vous devez savoir aussi qu'il y a des communautés francophones et des différents accents partout au Canada, non seulement au Québec.

Oh et aux francophones de souche en général, ça fait plusieurs années que je n’écris pas en français, donc n’hesitez pas à corriger mes erreurs. Ça m’aide à apprendre !

D’accord, assez parlé de mes insécurités. 

Utilisant l’article de Wikipédia Français québécois et Radio-Canada comme référence, j’ai étudié la prononciation. J’ai commencé avec les consonnes, qui sont plus faciles que les voyelles. 

Les consonnes

Avant les voyelles i (y compris les autres orthographies du même son comme y) et u, les consonnes d et t deviennent dz et ts. Par exemple: 

du > “dzu”

diplôme > “dziplôme”

situation > “sitsuation”

satisfait - “satsisfait”, etc. [Note: ça se prononce “etchétérâ” au Québec.]

Les groupes de consonnes finales se réduisent. Exemples:

possible > possib’

capable > capab’

vinaigre > vinaig’

correcte > correc’

pauvre > pauv’

arbre > arb’

ministre > minist’

etc.

Certaines combinaisons de voyelle + R peuvent devenir voyelles rhotiques dans un discours rapide, très similaire que le son R en anglais à mes oreilles. Je n’ai pas réussi à retrouver des informations sur ce phénomène, mais je suis certaine que je l’entends, alors voici ma meilleure tentative de transcription d’API. Exemples: 

père [pɑ˞]

frère [fʁɑ˞]

mesure [mezʏ˞]

cœur [kɚ] 

voir [vwɑ˞]

Des gens aussi prononcent les mêmes combinaisons ainsi dans un discours plus lent et plus énoncé:

père [pæɪ̯ʁ]

frère [fʁæɪ̯ʁ]

mesure [mezʏʁ]

cœur [kaœ̯ʁ]

voir [vwɛʁ] ou [vwɑʁ]

Historiquement, on utilisait le R roulé [r] dans l’ouest du Québec et le R grasseyé [ʀ] dans l’est, mais aujourd’hui le R grasseyé est dominant partout au Québec et cette distinction est considérée comme dépassée.

Les voyelles

En français québécois, on distingue entre les voyelles brèves et longues.

a: Version longue est dipthonguée et se réalise en syllable finale fermée et/ou avec circonflexe. 

Exemple: patte [pat] vs. pâte [pɑːt] ou [pɑʊ̯t], gagner [gɑɲe]

e/ai: Version longue est dipthonguée se réalise en syllable finale fermée et/ou avec circonflexe. 

Exemple: mettre [mɛt] vs. maître [mɛːt] ou [maɪ̯t], fête [fɛːt] ou [faɪ̯t]

i: Relâchée comme [ɪ] en syllable fermée et [i] partout ailleurs.

Exemples: six [sɪs], machine [maʃɪn], parti [paʁtsi], jeudi [ʒœ˞dzi]

o: Version longue est dipthonguée et se réalise en syllable finale fermée et/ou avec circonflexe. 

Exemple: botte [bɔt] vs. autre [ou̯t], fantôme [fæ̃tou̯m]

eu/œu: Dipthonguée en syllable finale fermée. Rhotacisée en syllable finale ouverte.  

Exemple: neutre [nøy̯t], feutre [føyt]; feu [fœ˞], deux [dœ˞]

u: Relâchée comme [ʏ] en syllable fermée et [y] partout ailleurs.

Exemples: une [ʏn], habitude [abɪtsʏd], perdu [pæɪ̯ʁdzy]

ou: Relâchée comme [ʊ] en syllable fermée et [u] partout ailleurs.

Exemples: poule [pʊl] vs. vous [vu]

voyelles nasales: 

an/en [æ̃] Ex: divan [dzivæ̃], lentement [læ̃tmæ̃]

in [ẽĩ̯] Ex: matin [matẽĩ̯]

on [õũ̯] Ex: cochon [kɔʃõũ̯]

un [œ̃˞] Ex: brun [bʁœ̃˞]

oi > oé (oir > ouère): moi (parfois écrit moé) [mwe], noir [nwɛʁ] ou [nwɑʁ]

Bien sûr, le français québécois est bien plus qu'un changement de prononciation. Il existe de nombreuses différences de vocabulaire par rapport aux variétés européennes, surtout dans l'argot et le discours informel. Sa caractéristique la plus connue est probablement l'usage des sacrés (ou jurons) avec une connotation religieuse. Par exemple: tabarnac, osti, criss, câlice, etc.

🔥🔥 it's a thing we do in Quebecois french and Canadian french excluding Acadian french.

We add s sound after a t only with the vowels i and u.

So ti and tu are pronounced tsi and tsu

And

We add a Z after the letter d also only with the vowels i and u.

So di and du are pronounced dzi and dzu

(of course, french u. /y/ in ipa)

That's why when we say poutine, it sounds like pootsin.

I believe affrication is also a thing in Haitian french.

Some more little bits i be thinking abt for those who want more dance content: (under the cut)

Usopp with his salsa fundamentals and luffy with his vague memories of samba end up, at some point, coming up with their own much more chaotic combo of the two. They r spinning around so fast its insane. Luffy is about to launch them into the sun. They're having a great time.

Sanji being absolutely miffed when the only other ppl on the crew who know how to couple's dance with him are Usopp and Luffy. He gets over it ofc, being able to actually dance with another person quickly overwhelms the "I wanted to tango with a beautiful lady" grief

If i had to rank them based on how often/readily they will dance its....in the order I placed the pictures, with chopper between brook and nami. Luffy is only so low cause he'd usually rather be eating, and brook cause he'd rather be playing, and zoro cause he'd rather be drinking/napping

Robin will readily dance with you if you ask her but she's not going to initiate
