A kind hearted woman Andromeda Black is considered by those who know her well to have a pure soul, though many people outside her circle are often too overwhelmed by the idea of her very famous family to even give her a chance to show it. The middle daughter of CYGNUS BLACK [father] and his wife DRUELLA BLACK [mother], Andromeda was raised at Brideswater Manor in the Hertfordshire countryside, cloaked by magic and woodland to shield them from the eyes of muggles. The house always felt somewhat empty to Andromeda, though filled with heirlooms and trinkets she could hear their voices echo. Her mother had never felt like a natural one to Andromeda, who always seemed as though she’d rather have had dolls rather than children she had to attempt to control. Her eldest sister BELLATRIX BLACK [sibling] was wild and the majority of her childhood felt like raised voices across the dining room as Bellatrix desperately tried to impress their father with grand statements and facts about their world, whilst their mother rolled her eyes and once again reminded her of her manners. With this great power struggle going on, Andromeda was able to fly under the radar, content with a book and to do as she was told much to the delight of her mother.

Dutiful and quiet, she only caused her mother headaches when she reached her years beyond school, but in her earlier years she was her hand. Able to plait the long silver hair of her youngest sister NARCISSA BLACK [sibling] and entertain her older sister or the children they invited round their home with conversation she didn’t much care for but did to keep the volume down at parties. She spoke when she was spoken to and rarely had an opinion that passed her lips, just the way Druella wanted it. But what Andromeda did instead was listen, whilst Naricssa longed to impress people with her beauty and Bellatrix with her mind, Andromeda sat and watched. Noticed the things people commended and the things that wrinkled their noses. People in her world of The Sacred Twenty-Eight were only interested in hearing their own opinions repeated back to them, whilst her father’s friends at The Ministry of Magic, had grand ideas about building a more equal world, she watched her parents smile and nod about when she knew they couldn’t think of anything more awful, but unlike her elder sister, the pair had a very good poker face.

Arriving at school after Bellatrix and her cousin EVAN ROSIER [cousin] were leaving, Andromeda was given a place in Slytherin. She liked to believe it was her intelligence and determination that had gained her a spot in Slytherin, but her sorting seemed to be both a blessing and a curse, as the people she’d known her whole life embraced her, and new faces didn’t want to get to know her. Although her family had quite strict ideas regarding blood purity, which Bellatrix had very publicly aired, Andromeda had never truly felt convinced.The idea her family was any better than any other magical families due to their lack of muggle blood. She was of the opinion that blood and money meant nothing and it was one's mind and desire to embrace and make a change that truly made the measure of a person. Andromeda believed that deep down her family were those sorts of people. Her mother was a beautiful and kind witch that was truly loved by their community, whilst her father had a brilliant mind and had done such good in his work at Wizengamot. Andromeda told herself their opinions were outdated and signified the time they were born into rather than the world today, and that a lot of the people she associated with were simply symptoms of that very issue.

It was her duty and her wish to slowly change their mind and she did it by surrounding herself with people she thought she could potentially have common ground with. ADRASTEIA GREENGRASS [best friend/housemate] was from a similar background to Andromeda, from a Sacred Twenty-Eight family and with a mother who worked in Wizengamot with Andromeda’s father. She was the only person in Andromeda’s world that she felt comfortable chatting theories and speaking about law with who knew what it was like to be from the social standing that everyone hated. Her friends ROSALIE FLINT [close friend] was also from The Sacred Twenty-Eight and had designs on great love and being married whatever that meant, whilst LUCINDA TALKALOT [close friend] was not from a Sacred Twenty-Eight family, but a long established and respected one, who had dreams of becoming Quidditch Captain and living independently where her parents could no longer control her. There they were, the rebellious Slytherin girls hiding in plain sight where no one could notice them and their grand plans. But it was hard to show any rebellion in front of Narcissa and her friends, so relationships like her friendship with muggle-born EDWARD TONKS [close friend/potential love interest] had to be kept a secret, something which AMELIA BONES [person of interest/former rival], was more than too happy to point out.

Graduating a prefect, a member of slug club and narrowly missing out on Head Girl, Andromeda was focused on what she would throw her weight behind. Despite her mother’s complaints that yet another daughter would not be joining the marriage market, Andromeda accepted a position in Wizengamot as an associate of defence barrister RODOLPHUS LESTRANGE [close friend/potential love interest]. Andromeda at first found him a cold man, who more than likely thought she had gotten her job through nepotism rather than having deserved it, but the more cases she worked on the more Andromeda proved her worth and the two formed a bond. She felt like his right hand and by the time they had taken the SILAS CRUMP [former client] case, she’d become his right hand. Losing his case was gutting to Andromeda; she had longed to see him walk free and had always been determined he was innocent of the slaying of BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest]. Her suspicions were further heightened when MASON TREMBLAY [person of interest] was convicted of the murder of Amelia Bones and was plastered in the press as Silas’ lover, which Andromeda knew to be false as he had a wife and child.

Something felt wrong to Andromeda and she was determined to figure out what it was. Between cases Andromeda began travelling Europe in search of his wife KAMALI SKANDER [person of interest] or his daughter CORIN HALE [person of interest] in the hope she could at the very least disprove The Daily Prophet article and clear his name. To her surprise, Rodolphus did not seem to be as interested in challenging their client’s verdict as she was, something that was certainly uncommon as Rodolphus had always played to win. Andromeda knew that Rodolphus knew he was innocent and after graduating from his services and becoming a barrister in her own right, she began looking into Silas’ case without mentioning it to her former boss. Although Andromeda would love to focus on Silas, another case has become her focus. A young werewolf named JONATHAN REEVES [client] has sought Andromeda out to help build his defence after the disappearance of Andromeda’s close friend Rosalie. Although a cold case, Andromeda has noticed mentions of Rosalie as the three year mark comes closer. Wanting the case to be taken seriously by the Aurors, Jonathan is willing to work with them to find the person who hurt Rosalie, but is concious that when a young witch goes missing, the first finger pointed is always at the boyfriend.

It had happened in Andromeda’s fifth year at Hogwarts. One time when she and Ted had been fooling around in an empty corridor in the dungeons, Narcissa had seen them. That was the first time Andromeda fully realized what consequences her relationship with Ted would result in and even though she had never felt much belonging in her family, she was a little bit scared after the talk she had with Narcissa.

Andromeda had thought that Narcissa would be angry, disappointed, disgusted even, but she wasn’t. She seemed… almost worried. But that was then. Now she was older, and had had much more time to be infatuated with their family’s pure-blood bigotry...

The glimmering jewel in the crown of the Black family, Narcissa Black is as feared as she is loved. Beautiful like her mother, yet intelligent like her father, Narcissa believes she is entitled to the best that life has to offer and with her family’s social standing she stands head and shoulders above all. The youngest daughter of CYGNUS BLACK [father] and DRUELLA BLACK [mother], Narcissa was in many ways their easiest child, she was a beautiful girl who liked beautiful things and her mother in particular was happy to give her them. Narcissa completed her family perfectly, giving her mother an outlet for someone to talk make-up and clothing with which bored her more politically minded sisters. Despite their clear differences in personality, Narcissa grew up close to her sisters BELLATRIX BLACK [sibling] and ANDROMEDA BLACK [sibling], though she at times found their behaviour quite tiresome. Like their father Bellatrix was opinionated, though Narcissa noticed she was often forthcoming with her opinion when no one had asked, whilst Andromeda hid her beauty in the pages of a book rather than make connections with other members of their society.

It became clear quite early in Narcissa’s life that it was she that would bear the weight of making an advantageous marriage and to further her family line, with her eldest sister destined for a career in politics and Andromeda presumably for one in academia. Hogwarts school was her first real taste of how to not only command a room but a social group. The moment she was seated at the Slytherin table, Narcissa took note of all of the eligible people who were sorted into her house, careful to ensure that ELEANOR YAXLEY [best friend], KLAUDIE BURKE [close friend], ROSALINE DAVIS [close friend] ZARINA ZABINI [close frriend] and VALERIA BULSTRODE [close friend] had a seat beside her. Making friends from The Sacred Twenty-Eight was of Narcissa’s top priority and like minded witches who were easy to manage were her preferred sort of people. Other names had crossed her list, but the likes of GENEVIEVE AVERY [friend/adversary] seemed more content with making themselves look better and eclipsing Narcissa’s spotlight in the process, which meant girls like ANASTASIA SIMINOVA [friend/adversary] EVORA CROUCH [friend/adversary] and PRIMROSE POMFREY [friend/adversary] stayed out of her inner circle and firmly in Genevieve's.

By the time Narcissa had arrived at school, her sisters had already set a precedent for her arrival. Bellatrix and their cousin EVAN ROSIER [cousin] were merciless bullies who targeted muggle-borns, whilst Andromeda was a well liked model student and prefect, meaning Narcissa was unlikely to be bothered. A model student also and a prefect whilst at Hogwarts, Narcissa was somewhat of a combination of her two sisters, unwilling to back down from a challenge but preferred to conduct her attacks secretly. A persuasive witch, Narcissa was able to convince others to do her dirty work for her. People like RABASTAN LESTRANGE [close friend] took care of her cousin SIRIUS BLACK [cousin/adversary] and the disgraceful group he chose to surround himself with, whilst the occasional bit of gossip and a quiet word to her teachers here and there from herself and REGULUS BLACK [cousin/close friend] or VICTOR YAXLEY [close friend] put to bed any threats to her power within school and helping her secure her spot in The Slug Club, as well as her positions of prefect and later Head Girl.

Finally into the world, the idea of working before she ran her own household did not appeal to Narcissa and she quickly got to work establishing herself in Wizarding London’s social scene. Looking good was a full time job for Narcissa, but she was not your average Sacred Twenty-Eight witch with marriage on her mind. From an intelligent family with important political connections, Narcissa had a sharp mind and was careful not only about what she was saying but what she was hearing and who was her ideal match. LUCIUS MALFOY [friend/potential love interest] had been on Narcissa’s mind for some time. A friend of her eldest sister’s, she had watched him rise in the political world, just like his father had done before him and fancied him as someone she maybe could consider her intellectual and social equal. The two had been getting closer before her world had changed and despite having their best interests at heart, Narcissa is still wounded by the attack on her reputation that followed the untimely death of The Minister’s son BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest].

Before his death, her family was established, now they were questioned. In an unfortunate string of events that saw Narcissa accidently holding Booker’s wand that evening due to a plot by her sister gone wrong, Narcissa was forced to endure an embarrassing trip to The Ministry’s integration room, her face on The Daily Prophet and worst of all, her marriage prospect suddenly in a relationship with a Witch Weekly model. Narcissa was outraged. Then her family let her in on their dirty secret. The Dark Lord was a mysterious wizard who had seemingly chosen her family to further his word, a powerful man, unlike any they had seen before, her father and Bellatrix believed he was the key to making their world a better and less tolerant place, leaving people like them at the top without having to endure the likes of squibs and muggle-borns. Narcissa was reluctant to join the ranks of The Dark Lord, until she discovered he had another important follower that wished to rise in his ranks, Lucius.

Narcissa is as content as she can muster being an associate of The Dark Lord’s and listening out in high society for anything that may threaten their plans. Instead she chooses to focus on her image and achieve her ultimate goal. Complete control of London’s high society and the man of her dreams by her side. Calculated, Narcissa has began to insert herself into the life of ANDRESSA PARKINSON [person of interest] to find out her secrets and shortcomings in the hopes of driving a wedge between her and Lucius, though Andressa may end up being the least of her problems. As the most sought after witch in Wizarding London, the target on Narcissa’s back is a large one, with multiple people begging to see her reign at the top come to an end, including those within her own friendship group. There are many who would do whatever it takes to topple her, including using dirt gathered on her more unassuming sister Andromeda in order to do it.

DRUELLA BLACK (née ROSIER) is SIXTY-TWO YEARS OLD and a SOCIALITE amongst THE SACRED TWENTY-EIGHT in LONDON. She looks remarkably like MICHELLE PFIFER and considers herself aligned with THE DEATH EATERS. She is currently OPEN.

→ OVERVIEW:

The scent of expensive perfume and the light girlish laugh that echoes through a ballroom as champagne glasses clink, Druella Black is a glittering jewel in the crown of the Black family tree and one of their finest additions. The daughter of former wizengamot judge HUGO ROSIER and socialite ODILIA LA TREMOILLE, Druella was raised in the lap of luxury in the South of France, every inch a fairytale princess and her mother’s most treasured possession. The La Tremoille family valued appearance above all else, known for throwing lavish balls where enchanted champagne fountains flowed. Outward projection of wealth, happiness and elegance was of utmost importance in her home and as soon as Druella was old enough to balance a book on her head she was put through rigorous training to become a valued member of the La Tremoille dynasty. An only child until she was five, Druella was very much her mother’s daughter, with slight interactions from her father that would stick in her memory as she began to raise her own children. Hugo and his wife were incredibly different people, her father more focused on family and true happiness rather than performing for the society they found themselves in. He had married for love as well as convention, though Druella had often suspected that Odilia saw their family as little treasures inside her jewellery box rather than people she should love and nurture.

Hugo enjoyed playing with Druella, making her laugh in an unladylike manner and encouraging her to consider what she liked rather than felt she had to do. It was because of this, Odilia became the main figure in Druella’s life, particularly after her younger brother AXEL was born. The two children had very different upbringings though they were raised in the same household. Druella took tea in the parlour and took trips to Wizarding Paris with her mother to explore boutiques and be fitted for gowns and bonnets, whilst Axel predominantly stayed in Lyon, exploring their grounds and reading the books and maps in their father’s library where his thirst for knowledge was nurtured. By the time Druella began attending Beauxbatons the pair could not be more different, Axel was her wild younger brother and she was a dainty swan set to swim in the lake of pompery amongst the French upper classes. Attending school was a breeze for someone like Druella, though she was not a veela she was just as beautiful and that beauty unlocked many doors for her that would remain closed for most. She was a dainty doll that people felt compelled to take care of, but underneath her beauty was a mind always working, considering each decision and step like she was dancing a waltz that her life depended on. Friends were carefully curated and relationships grew mostly out of convenience and convention rather than fondness.

A subdued blonde, Druella enjoyed her position as the most underestimated person in the room, left to her own devices to curate her own happiness whilst their eyes were trained on her beautiful dresses and mesmerizing blue gaze. When Druella joined society post Beauxbatons she was the jewel of the season and the most sought after debutant in Paris. On the arm of her brother, she would enter rooms and listen to the silence with as much pleasure as if she were hearing a string quartet. Each weekend she would open Le Sorcier Du Dimanche and read of her triumph at balls and the speculation as to who she would finally marry. Her whole life had been cantered around that question, but Druella enjoyed the thrill of the chase and the attention she garnered. Druella Rosier knew she was the best and would only give her hand to the man who deserved it. CYGNUS BLACK was a few years younger than Druella, but from the moment he took her hand to dance it was love at first sight. An English gentleman, he pursued her quite ruthlessly with the vigor and passion veiled with British charm that the Black family were known for. The day Druella Rosier became Druella Black was the event of the decade, with enchanted bottles of champagne popping as she walked down the aisle and doves released as they kissed. Cygnus was the younger brother of the Black family, but the pair had enough money that lesser inheritance on his part was not an issue.

After a number of years living between Paris and London, drinking in lavish bars and attending parties, Druella was whisked away to Cygnus’ family home of Brideswater Manor in Hertfordshire to begin growing their family. An image conscious woman, Druella wanted her youth to be filled with beauty and splendour, though she had always had dreams of becoming a mother and raising her three daughters filled her heart with more happiness than she could have ever imagined. BELLATRIX came first, her face determined and her hair as black as night. ANDROMEDA came next, subdued just like Druella but an academic like her father, then NARCISSA, her blonde hair blonde and eyes an icy blue. Druella loved them all equally, her shimmering jewels she stroked and kissed each night before bed, but with Narcissa she shared a specifically deeper bond. As their girls grew older, Druella and Cygnus would watch them and speak about their differences, Narcissa would be their debutant, their image conscious darling whose name would be known throughout the Wizarding World for her beauty. In a house filled with strong minds, Druella sought comfort in her youngest daughter who resisted the least to a life of pretty dresses and parties any woman in The Sacred Twenty-Eight was destined and excited for. Raising three daughters is difficult for any parent, but even the most able of parents would have struggled with Bellatrix.

Although she accepted her place in society, like Druella’s brother Axel she detested rubbing shoulders with people not like them and fought her at every turn as she pulled her hair into beautiful ribbons and attempted to make her into a lady. It was perhaps due to the similarities between Bellatrix and Druella’s brother, the two were not as close as Druella had first imagined. Nevertheless she persisted with all three of her children, taking books away from Andromeda and applying lipstick to Bellatrix’s pursed lips whilst Narcissa watched with a smug smile. Druella had a clear image in her head for the way her daughter’s lives would pan out. They’d each be happily married by twenty-five or at the very least thirty, with their own homes and later children, hosting balls and clinking crystal glasses. When Cygnus had encouraged Bellatrix to travel and Andromeda to pursue a legal career, Druella was most distressed but had agreed due to the love she had for her children, though she insisted they return home each summer and take her wishes seriously of them marrying well and continuing their lineage. THE DARK LORD was a spanner in Druella’s plans she could not have accounted for, nor the scheming and meddling of her sister-in-law WALBURGA and how much her husband would place the pursuit of power above the safety of their children. Druella saw value in the new world he was creating and pledged her allegiance alongside the rest of her family, though she did so with narrowed cerulean eyes.

Walburga maintained that Bellatrix having such proximity to The Dark Lord was an honour for their family and would enable better prospects for all their children. Outwardly she nodded and smiled, though privately she worried and watched silently as her niece and nephew ALEXANDRA and EVAN joined her daughter, waiting for the moment Andromeda and Narcissa would be next. It was their admittance into The Dark Lord’s movement that spurred Druella on to become a better aunt to her late brother’s children. Though Druella and Axel had never been close, she had loved her brother dearly and was saddened by his passing. With their mother absent, a matter which was taken care of thankfully by Cygnus to which she wanted limited knowledge of, Druella saw herself somewhat of a pseudo mother to the pair, making a concerted effort to ensure their happiness. Used to raising difficult women, Alexandra was something of a dream to Druella, a true beauty who knew her own mind and how to work a room which Druella admired greatly. With the season approaching, Druella is choosing to ignore the scheming and drama of her family to focus on her own pursuits. Though she is aware the season will end with a bang, Druella is committed to the idea that nothing will spoil this time of the year for her and that at least one of her family, hopefully her daughters, will receive a proposal before the magnolias begin to wilt and save her the embarrassment of another year with three single children.

The Riddle Era of the Black family

This is a bunch of headcanons about the characters from the Riddle Era of the Black family (ei: Sirius' parents, aunts, and uncles). Please don't let this flop, I've been gathering headcanons about this family for almost 4 years now. (I'll be posting about the Black sisters/brothers eventually as well. See my previous post about the 1920s/30s as well.)

Many members of the Black family were close friends with Tom Riddle however most did not join his cause because of family matters such as the business which was slowly declining.

Walburga cared much more for her father despite his often neglect of her. Though the two did have a good relationship and both loved each other.

The same can not be said for Irma and Walburga. Wally hated her mother who was always manipulative and physicologically abusive towards her. Leading to Walburga to become a more physically abusive person in contrast.

Walburga and Alphard had a grand rivalry due to Alphard being the male heir to their family and thus favored by his parents.

Cygnus was always a very obedient child which annoyed Walburga. He usually hid in the shadows of his siblings and never drew attention to himself. Wally always thought he was a very cowardly person while Alphard would have protected his younger brother.

Lucretia is definitely the smartest out of the Black family and knew how to "play the game" well.

Although prejudiced, she was still more progressive than others, like Alphard. Although she was much more prejudiced than Alphard.

The two were never in the spotlight that often so this was never an issue.

Lucretia and Orion had a good relationship until his marriage.

Orion and Walburga's marriage was secretly arranged between their parents.

This was because Walburga's bitterness towards her mother made her decline any suitors. (And little headcanon that she had a crush on Tom Riddle, which she couldn't pursue due to his unknown blood status)

It was suggested that Orion court Walburga as a result of the friendship between Lucretia and Walburga.

Wally and Lucy were very good friends during Hogwarts but this did change after her marriage.

Orion was forced to agree to courting her and did win Walburga over.

He did grow feelings for her in time as well (all very gross incest).

Lucretia was against the marriage since it was incest but was unable to intervene much.

Lucretia fell in love with Ignatius, who was a Ravenclaw pureblood whose family was on the brink of losing its prejudiced ideals.

However he himself was prejudiced, though more progressive, and the marriage was allowed.

The two lived a good and happy life despite having to attend tedious family gatherings full of drama.

Now I'm not saying that Druella was a gold-digger, but she kinda was a gold-digger.

Druella's branch of the Rosier family was not doing well financially and since the Blacks were of the greatest wealth and power, she was told to by her parents to court one of them.

Obviously not Alphard as he was probably gay in my opinion and not a very suitable husband, but Cygnus who was rather easily persuaded by someone like Druella.

Walburga disliked Druella but she never really acted on it. Druella was a very materialistic person as a result of her upbringing. She knew about Walburga's distaste for her but never showed it.
