idk if this is me being too picky but i honestly really hate when people try to treat the al ghuls like they're royalty like i get that it's for fun but to me it treads too closely to a perception of them where they're more obsessed with their own grandeur and self-importance (something that you increasingly see towards the end of the 90s as their portrayals begin to decline, ironically enough lol) than they are simply committed to a duty to the world. i definitely think damian's introduction contributes to the perception esp with the emphasis on him being created as a perfect specimen despite the fact that traditionally ra's was enraptured with bruce bc he knew they shared ideals and he admired bruce's wits, dedication, and bravery. ra's does have power but maybe even moreso than bruce that power is only a means to an end and he's not concerned with amassing power for his own sake nor is he so self-absorbed as to believe only he can bring salvation to the world: hence why he seeks an heir in bruce in the first place. ra's and talia to me are both insanely humble people in the sense that they put the cause before themselves at all costs. all that matters is their contributive impact on the earth. their own existence holds no tangible value beyond each of them acting as the medium for an important environmental philosophy they want to carry forward (and we see this warped most severely with the introduction of damian and ra's being written to want to body-snatch him bc for some reasons morrison thinks immortality is paramount). were writers to focus more on that philosophy than they are on the bizarre idea that all ra's and talia want to do is amass power then maybe we wouldn't be where we are today with people thinking they're self-serving people blinded by their own riches and power to abuse others..

#before anyone asks this is an upcoming short story in Batman: Urban Legends 20 #its done by Nadia whom I'm on the fence when it comes to her writing #she doesn't write Talia as evil which is the bare minimum but I still appreciate it #but.....she write Talia as some badass cold girlboss which I don't like and isn't really true Talia #and I personally don't like how she reconted Talia's childhood into being a copy of Damian's childhood #I did the story she wrote with teenage Talia tho but not so much kid Talia and adult Talia #since its just a short story my predication is that it will be a boring story about the difference between how they raise Damian #and it will probably (I hope not) will end up with Damian or the narrative saying that Damian is better off with Bruce than Talia #although if it was about me I would rather its just a cute wholesome story about Bruce and Talia saving Damian or something #or better yet a modern retelling of when she got pregnant with Damian and faked a miscarriage #that will do wonder to fix her image that was destroyed by Morrison #but it will probably just be my first prediction

I love the idea of Deadly Decision getting together but Ra has no idea that Danny is no human he just thinks that Danny has his own Lazarus pit hidden somewhere away from him

Honestly? I love this.

And you know what? Danny might need someone like that, who even as his humanity slips away still treats him as human, as not an eldritch creature of Space, of everything Between. Someone who treats him as well, him. Is his and Ras relationship healthy? Well maybe not in human terms, but do either of them count as such anymore?

The idea of the kids playing along is also amazing lol. Especially that Jordan and Ellie? Definitely same hat as Danny. Sure their forms still look sort of human, but that just makes it very uncanny valley. So others and siblings who treat them the same? They need it just as much- if nothing else than to not become so arrogant and uncaring of humanity that they could watch the world end without a blink.

Which, Damian! I bet Danny absolutely adores the grandbaby. I bet he crafts little ice bats and miniature planets to swirl above his crib. I bet he has a literal strip of space and stars on his ceiling. And Damian isn't the only grandbaby too- Dusan has a daughter in some timelines too. Not to mention Ras' adoptive daughter Nyssa, who he gave one of the Lazarus Pits to.

But speaking of Damian, I have to know what that would mean for Jason. Who was practically completely braindead before being thrown into the Pit. Who would have probably met Danny while there because I can't see Danny not also gently doting on another grandson.

Gosh I honestly am just really enjoying this whole thing lol.

Mother of the Year (DC x DP)

Here is the link to my DC x DP masterpost, and one of my last notfic I posted here was Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss, Godhood where Danny and Vlad try to manipulate and mansplain their way out of trouble with the JLA.

OK I know we do a lot of John Constantine's soul being owned by King Phantom in this fandom. And that makes sense because it's canon he sells his soul a lot,

but like, hear me out, Talia al Ghul has access to the Pits and has used them multiple times. She has reason to believe she may never die. So, what if in one of her many political manoeuvres she sells her soul for a boon. She doesn't know enough occult to do what John did (sell it to so many people that he can't die because a war would start over who actually got hold of it) but again, she thinks she might be functionally immortal.

But hey, we could even make it not one of her many political manoeuvres. I mean Damian Al Ghul was supposed to be his Grandfather's new body. Why would Ra's care if he got emotional fulfilment by moving to Gotham and training under his dad? Why would he want notorious family-man Bruce to even know about the boy and have him taken to a place Ra's may never be able to extract him from? (Yes in some canon he doesn't know, I am aware thanks).

So, she knows her father's body is failing and she's always been loyal to him (above and beyond what you could imagine FYI non-DC fans) but he'll never let Damian go and in this AU she loves her son more, and so she trades her soul. She trades her mortal soul to the King of Lazarus, the Ruler of Everything Beneath the Water in exchange for Damian's life, for his safe and unnoticed passage to Batman's side and beyond. If her father breaks free of the compulsion not to notice he will kill her without hesitation but if she has failed to secure Damian's safety and mind then she won't care.

Talia tracks down ancient texts held by the All Caste. She makes the trade late at night over her Father's biggest Pit in Nanda Parbat. She thinks the power of the Lazarus Pits will keep her safe but she didn't really read the fine print.

So about a year after Damian goes to meet his Dad, Talia gets Danny in her Assassin bedroom ready to whisk her off. Not to the afterlife, but to Illinois, America. She, as an indebted, quasi-immortal now owes this "'representative'" of the Throne of the Restless Dead near unlimited favours. And the representative's half-ghost clone has just hit a rather... radioactive puberty.

Danny figures that a liminal maternal figure will be invaluable for Dani who is struggling. Sure Sam and Jazz can help sometimes but this girl needs actual raising.

Damian, however, is not impressed that his mother is apparently raising his secret older sister in secrecy on the side when Talia seemingly sent him off to live without her.

BatFamily and Their Batman Ship:

Alfred - BatCat. Even though he disaproves Selina criminal life he enjoys her company enough it doesn't really matters. He thinks Selina and Bruce are perfect for each other.

Jim Gordon - BatCat and BruHarvey before discovering that Batman and Bruce were the same people he kindda just belived Catwoman was Batman's soulmate and Harvey was Bruce's tragic soulmate. Is more inclined towards Bruharvey because he thinks Bruce is the only one who can get Harvey's back and he and Harvey really bonded working together and he saw Harvey as an younger brother before Two-Face.

Dick - BatCat or SuperBat. He loves both Clark and Selina and both were basically parents for him in a way or another. He is very disapointed in Bruce for never acting on either of his two very obvious crushes. He is even more disapointed after Khoa breaks Bruce's heart.

Dick is an anti-GhostBat and Khoa will have to do a lot of work to prove his worth to Bruce's eldest child. He also disaproves of BruHarvey.

Barbara - BruHarvey or BatCat, just like Dick she grew whatching Selina sending Bruce the heart eyes and also respecting Selina as the ultimate girlboss. But while Dick was seeing Superman sending his dad love eyes, Barbara was seeing her uncles Harvey and Bruce weirdly pinning. And while Dick and Harvey never got along at all, Harvey was very close to the Gordon family as a whole and used to babysit Babs a lot.

Jason - Brutalia and WonderBat. He accepts some of Bruce's other love interests, but he doesn't like them. Talia means to Jason the same that Selina means to Dick, she is basically his mother and he adores her.

While Jason would support Wonderbat as well is important to add that he thinks Diana could and should do better. He thinks the same of Talia, but he also knows how much she likes Bruce and believes Bruce does act better when with her. He is starting to think BruHarvey is also not that awfull of an idea.

Cassandra - She saw most of Bruce's romantic phases with people and she has no fix idea. She just wants Bruce to be happy. If she had to choose one option would probably be Talia, but in parts is because she has a tiny crush on Talia.

Tim - None. Tim doesn't think anyone is good enough for Bruce. Or better put he thinks Bruce is too emocionally fragille for a relationship. Anyone who dates Bruce will have to deal with an overprotective Tim.

He specially distrusts Selina. The closest to a Bat ship he has is BatLatern cause Tim was the Robin during the time Bruce and Hal were having the weird "chair" friendship and it kindda reminded Drake of him and Kon. Still he is very anti Batman dating and will make a PowerPoint presentation of "things I'm going to do with you if you ever hurt Bruce."

Stephanie - Thinks Bruce is too much of a loser to date. Does ship BatCat. She likes Selina and like all Robins saw her and Bruce weird flirt, she thinks they match. She also supports Brutalia, mostly because Damian convinced her. She just really doesn't care. Will write trash fic about Batman and his Rogues. When Riddler was living at her home she would specially make fun of his crush on Bruce. But is more her being a little gremlim than anything else.

Damian - Brutalia. Duh. He wants his parents to be an item and he wants it now. Will do a parent trap if necessary. Sees good points in other ships, he actually gets along well with Selina and with Clark, but I mean, he is on his mother's side.

Duke - Coudn't care less. There is only one superhero love life he cares and it's Black Lightining and only because now that his mother is unjokerized she and Jefferson are actually kindda cute together. He loves Bruce but that man's love life is just too messy for him to have an opinion on. While not as protective as Tim, Duke is still very protectice of Bruce.

Bao - GhostBat. This child of divorce just wants to see his parents get back together and he will foght the other child of divorce (Damian) over it.

[I can't imagine neither Kate nor Helena even participating of such debate because both are really not intererested in Bruce's weird love life. I also have no idea what Harper, Cullen, Maps or Luke would think].

All members of the batfam hate BatJokes.

Disclaimer: there is very specific situations with different ships, for example I personally believe that Lego Dick does shipp BatJokes and Unburied Babs ships RiddleBat. But this are very specific versions of the characthers and not the general norm.
