atla small town modern au
it’s katara & sokka’s hometown in the southern water tribe, which is being taken over by ozai’s industrialist company as a factory town
their dad is the mayor but he’s gone missing so vice mayor bato has been handling the work and sokka is running his and katara’s household
(hakoda’s missing because ozai hated that he was enacting anti-firecorp policies)
bending is still a thing. katara is a starry-eyed soul who wants to leave her small town to learn waterbending in the big city
sokka is a total pragmatist who thinks the town would collapse without them (he MAY be right)
aang is an undocumented immigrant from the air temples who was sent on the run w gyatso towards the nwt with crucial info to bring to journalists to bust open the evils ceo ozai wrought upon the air nation (e.g. labor exploitation, chokehold on clean water sources)
he got this quest cos he’s still the avatar in this au
got waylaid and separated from gyatso (who might be dead?) and ended up in the swt town
now uses his bending in secret to stack shelves in the local supermarket while trying to figure out how to get to nwt
(he may or may not be putting it off because the responsibility terrifies him)
unbeknownst to aang (and most everyone), the situation in the air nation is getting worse—actual violence is starting to happen
the water damage siblings take him in because they figure it’s their responsibility as the mayor’s kids. but over time they find him so endearing he becomes practically family
zuko has been disowned from his father’s giant conglomerate and believes that by catching the runaway avatar he will be brought back into the family
he pushes iroh into moving into town. he thinks iroh doesn’t know it’s to catch the avatar
in the meantime he picks up a job at the local boba shop and accidentally becomes a vigilante
(sokka develops a huge crush on the mysterious blue spirit)
unfortunately for him the description of the runaway has been switched around, and he thinks toph (another runaway in the same town) is the avatar
toph is friends with aang and is gleefully misleading zuko
she and aang are both out of school youth. toph spends most of her time trouncing people in sports at the local courts but her spending money comes from a huge stash of cash she took out of her parents’ safe before running away
aang is a regular at the boba shop and befriends zuko. zuko thinks aang is just the avatar’s friend and aang thinks zuko is neat. they bond over being new to town
azula comes to town at some point and immediately realizes that toph is not the avatar
(iroh knew all along but doesn’t tell zuko because he a. it’s a good lesson for his nephew and b. he finds it funny)
BONUS:
azula enrolls in the local school trying to find the avatar, accidentally develops a homoerotic rivalry with katara instead
iroh takes her in and sets off her redemption arc

No, but think about putting SaShiSu in an Avatar: The Last Airbender AU... 🥴
Waterbender!Gojo, Waterbender Healer!Ieiri and Firebender!Geto Imagines😭 Hear me out!
Tumblr media
They go on adventures together, get in trouble together.
Plus, if SatoSugu friendship blossoms into romance, it's so Romeo and Juliet-coded ✨💖
I like the idea of the three of them being childhood best friends.
Imagine this takes place during peace time, and there's no war (YET), and it's just the four nations being normal.
So Satoru, Shoko, and Suguru definitely met as children during an official visit to each other's country or something.
Suguru Geto is Fire Nation nobility who knows a thing or two about manipulating body heat and more...
🔥 Listen... It's the bun istg... Because why does his hairstyle remind me of Ozai, lowkey?
🔥 He's a talented firebender, martial artist, and adept scholar.
🔥 His mom and dad are political figures and I imagine his mom is a lady-in-waiting to the Fire Lord's wife, while Suguru's father actually sits in the Fire Lord's council. The man is an admiral in the Fire Lord's navy.
🔥 Suguru would be a nerd about Wan Shi Tong's library. 🦉
🔥 Suguru would be good at war strategy. It comes from his obsession with Pai Sho.
🔥 You know, his uncle may or may not rope him into joining the Order of the White Lotus at some point in his life.
🔥 Suguru in RED Fire Nation armor~ 🥹🥴🤤
🔥 Also, if I was skilled in photoshop, I will not be above photoshopping Suguru's head on top of Ozai's body. As in, I just need that image of Suguru Geto as a Fire Lord. 😩
Shoko Ieiri is a talented and renowned waterbender for her healing prowess and knowledge in human anatomy.
💧 She is from the Northern Water Tribe, like Gojo, and was raised alongside Satoru, so they're basically siblings.
💧 Her knowledge of human anatomy is unmatched. As in, yes, there are skilled waterbending healers, but Shoko is iconic because she goes beyond practicing healing on human mannequins. Our girl does autopsies and often ponders how the human body works. She's a legit doctor, okay?
💧 She practiced healing on Satoru a lot while they were growing up too, because Satoru acquired plenty of scrapes and bruises and dislocated bones through the years. He was a rambunctious child who had way too much power in his menace-causing hands. (more on Satoru later).
💧 What Satoru lacks in healing prowess, Shoko makes up for in buckets and buckets.
💧 Shoko is a decent waterbender in combat, but she would really rather her two friends do most of the fighting.
💧 Not like Satoru or Suguru would let her on the field that much anyway. She's too valuable to risk. Shoko knows it and plays that up to her advantage A LOT.
💧 Aside from escaping the arranged marriage her parents set up for her, Shoko eagerly ran away from home with Satoru at 18 in pursuit of scholars who eagerly studied human anatomy like her.
💧 Shoko is interested in how the other nations tend to their wounded and sick when they can't find a waterbending healer.
Satoru Gojo is blessed by the spirit of the moon and the ocean.
🌊🌕 He is literally Yue 2.0, but better! Still the Honored One in any universe. 😍 The white hair and blue eyes... Need I say more?
🌊🌕 Okay, so... I'm thinking... Satoru Gojo in ATLA universe is just like his JJK counterpart. He was highly favored by the spirits from the moment he was born.
🌊🌕 His parents look like typical Northern Water Tribe people. Dark-haired. Satoru is the only one in the family who is pale and white-haired.
🌊🌕 He's a Prince, of course... Prince Satoru of the Northern Water Tribe sounds hell'a good.
🌊🌕 He grew up sheltered, he's a waterbending prodigy, and he's still a menace.
🌊🌕 Gojo is also definitely a blood-bender, but I like to think he learns that skillset later on in their adventures or something (kind'a like how Katara learned it, but with less guilt). Also, Choso definitely taught him right?
🌊🌕 Satoru does not know how to heal other people. It's one of his greatest flaws. He can heal himself just fine, but using water to seek out illness and heal it for other people? Yeah... He sucks at that... (Not different from JJK in other words, where Gojo can't output Reverse Cursed Technique to heal other people. He only knows how to use RCT on himself).
Their Adventure Backstory...
➼ At 18, Satoru starts to get antsy about seeing the world and whatnot. He's sick of the family politics and the arranged marriages about to be shoved down his throat.
➼ Shoko is in the same boat. If the arranged marriages are suffocating for a prince, it's even worse for a talented young woman of noble birth.
➼ Shoko's situation is what pushes Satoru to say "Fuck it!" and run away from home.
➼ So against their parents' wishes, these 2 reckless teenagers devise a plan to run away for a much needed world tour. Satoru's reasoning is that they won't be gone forever... He and Shoko will come back eventually.
➼ First destination in mind: the Fire Nation... to see Suguru and rope him into their grand plans, of course!
➼ Satoru and Shoko steal a ship from the Water Tribe fleet and go on their merry way. (I like to think they got there fast because Satoru was manipulating the water underneath the ship to propel them faster to where they need to go).
➼ By the time they reach the Fire Nation, word has already spread of the Northern Water Tribe's runaway Prince.
➼ Shoko thinks Satoru is being stupid, but hey, according to Satoru, "What can my parents do about it at this point?"
➼ Sure, Satoru is a highly valued individual that could fetch a high price if kidnapped by pirates (he's a Prince, after all), but he's also an insanely powerful waterbender and combatant. I'm sure he'd say something like, "I don't need my bending to win."
➼ Satoru and Shoko make it to the Fire Nation unscathed, meet up with Suguru, and convince him to come along on a grand adventure.
➼ They switch out the Water Tribe ship for something a little more discreet from Suguru's own father's fleet. (Side-eye the kiddies using their parents' resources carelessly to do whatever they want. 😆 They're nepo-babies... all 3 of them.)
➼ I like to think Suguru's parents don't mind though. His mom, in particular, thinks it's a good idea for Suguru to go out and see the world and shit.
➼ Where are they going? Satoru didn't actually know.
➼ Suguru suggests a visit to the legendary knowledge spirit's library, since he's a nerd about that, but also, Shoko wants to see if she can find anything that indulges her curiosity. So that's where they're headed first.
➼ It would be a cute idea for a coming-of-age story... where SaShiSu grow up through the experiences they've had and they realize they have responsibilities to attend to or something.
➼ Because as much as they would want to, there's no such thing as traveling the world as nomads forever. Satoru is a Prince, and Shoko and Suguru are of noble birth. They have stuff to do...
➼ OR... OR... OR.... They're 3 stupid teenagers who ran away from home right on the brink of a war happening. Like, they had no idea conflict was rising, so shit hits the fan and Suguru just receives word from his father via messenger hawk, telling him to come home because there is a war.
It's embarrassing how I'm thinking about their combat prowess + the trouble the three of them get into too...
➼ Gojo and Geto enhance each other's combat. They're so in sync.
➼ Of course, they started out pretty rough... Water vs Fire and all that.. But as they train together more and inevitably encounter situations where they had to fight their way out, they learn to work together and be so in sync.
➼ Watching them fight each other, or fight alongside one another is a treat. It's like a dance -- a perfectly choreographed movement of legs and limbs.
➼ Suguru's fire can burn hot enough to evaporate water. It burns hot enough to destroy tightly packed walls of stone. He is not a stranger to carrying out executions on the most heinous criminals in the Boiling Rock, so yes, Suguru has burned a man alive and/or electrocuted a criminal in prison in the name of justice.
➼ Satoru is the perfect support to Suguru when Suguru launches a lightning attack.
➼ At some point in their adventures, Suguru pointed out how Satoru could try sucking moisture out of plants or draw water from the air and Satoru figures it out.
➼ I like to think Shoko put the idea of bloodbending in Satoru's head. It was a hypothetical thought that led to Satoru actually trying to figure it out and eventually running into someone who does that.
➼ It all started with Shoko randomly saying, "Hey, did you know that water takes up 3/4 of the human body?" as they sat around their campfire one night.
➼ Also... something something shenanigans happen where Satoru keeps waterbending boiling water out of a pot to fling at something -- the little shit that he is.
➼ After they left the Northern Water Tribe, Satoru has become Shoko's impromptu combat waterbending teacher.
➼ Shoko always complains about it during training days because Satoru HAS NO CHILL. He's also banking on the fact that Shoko can heal herself, so he finds little use in holding back.
➼ Shoko and Satoru have definitely pulled water-based pranks on Suguru multiple times. This is gross, but.... piss-bending. Satoru did it once as a prank. 🤢🤮
➼ On a brighter note, Satoru definitely makes silly water sculptures/giant puppets in the middle of the ocean for his and his companions' begrudging entertainment. Suguru and Shoko roll their eyes at it, but honestly, it's kinda cute when a water serpent or a water squid rises out of the sea to greet their ship once in a while. Yeah, it scares the shit out of ocean wildlife and maybe nearby ships and such, but at least Satoru is having fun. 🥴😁 (the unhinged wittle baby)
➼ Shoko thinks the Moon and the Ocean Spirits regret blessing the Prince when he was born. Suguru agrees...
➼ But hey, they make each other proud in their own ways.
➼ Shoko once stalled their trip and stayed in a remote fishing town for a week to heal the sick, and Satoru and Suguru were there as her assistants. (Satoru was complaining about the poor amenities and Suguru had to remind him all over again that though he was raised in a noble household, it was his duty to protect and care for those who cannot do that for themselves).
➼ Satoru once helped mediate a political issue that was severely affecting several neighboring towns in the Earth Kingdom.
➼ Suguru cracked a criminal case that was unsolved for months in a town in the Fire Nation, and was personally responsible for delivering the serial killer to the Boiling Rock. (Satoru saw the boiling lake and definitely played around with it, much to the chagrin of Suguru and Suguru's uncle).
Side note for my peeps who are familiar with ATLA lore:
Tumblr media
You know how they say no prisoner has ever escaped the Boiling Rock? Suguru told Satoru and Shoko about that, and Satoru definitely bets that he could do it.
Prince Satoru argues it's only because, "None of you waterbend."
They're visitors to the high security prison, but it doesn't stop Satoru from doing dumb stuff, like sneaking out without alerting the guards.
To prove his point, Satoru did what Sokka and Zuko did to escape the Boiling Rock: Use a cooler as a boat.
So in the dead of night, Suguru, Satoru, and Shoko do it, and Satoru successfully ferries the three of them across the Boiling Lake.
Afterwards, Suguru's like, "You've proven your point, Satoru. Let's head back."
Satoru is laughing and flashing his friends that cheesy, cocky grin he's known for and brags, "'No one escapes the Boiling Rock, highest security Fire Nation prison' my ass. All you needed was a waterbender!"
Shoko rolls her eyes at her friend's antics and speaks to him in a matter-of-fact voice, "Sure, but it wouldn't make sense for waterbenders to be kept here anyways or to be stuffed in coolers as punishments. It's meant to hold a firebender, not for people from the Water Tribe... and especially not for you."
Suguru is smirking at them both, "Theoretically speaking, precautions would be in place to prevent you from bending water. So that means pumping dry air and probably suspending your hands and feet before you're given anything to drink."
Shoko was nodding. "It'll take more than getting stuffed in a cooler for you to escape actually, so this little plot proves nothing, Satoru."
They got caught regardless because they lingered on the edge of the Boiling Lake on the opposite end of the island for far too long, and a watchman saw them and alerted Suguru's uncle.
Needless to say, SaShiSu were thoroughly scolded when they made it back to the prison.
Satoru's paying for damages to one of the dismantled coolers that were used as boats.
➼ I seriously need to stop, but yo...
Somebody please write a JJK X ATLA AU for real... 🙏

Summary: When Sokka's soulflowers bloom red, he's sure the spirits have gotten something wrong. There's no way the spirits would match him with someone from the people who took away his parents. When Katara's soulflowers bloom grey, he's even more sure that the spirits are full of shit. How could her soulmate be from the Air Nomads when they were killed a hundred years ago? When Zuko's soulflowers bloom blue, he knows he'll be lucky to last until adulthood. Soulmate AU where flowers bloom in the color of your soulmate's nation.
Excerpt:
It was supposed to be a special day—the day a person turns ten years old and their soulmark finally blooms. It’s the day that the soul connection becomes fully formed, when someone can begin to find the person who’s meant to be their other half. Usually the people of their tribe find their marks quickly; most of them never being destined to leave the comfort of the Southern Water Tribe. Their marks all come in the matching blue of the water tribe—an almost certainty that Sokka was supposed to have followed.
His parents were doing the thing where they talk without words, simply staring at each other above him as if that’s all it takes to understand each other. Sometimes, Sokka wondered if it might’ve been possible, considering the shared flowers he knew his parents bore.
“Why’s it not blue?” Sokka demanded, his little heart beginning to flutter with the building tension of the room. “What’s it mean, Dad?”
The sound of his title broke Hakoda from his silent conversation with Kya, his expression falling under his control once more. Sokka called it his ‘Chief look’, when his face fills with seriousness and determination.
“Do you remember what we told you about these marks, son?” Hakoda asked him, his hand replacing Kya’s to cradle Sokka’s wrist in the air. The movement revealed the blue-colored freesias curling around Hakoda’s wrist and forearm. Sokka had spent a long time tracing along the petals of them, demanding his dad tell him the story of how he and Kya met years before. No matter how many times he’d told the story, his father never failed to smile and retell it.
The moment you first meet your soulmate is like seeing the world in color for the first time. There’s nothing like it.
“It’s my soulmate,” Sokka answered, studying the red (and distinctly not blue) petals carefully. They stood out among the whites and blues of the water tribe’s clothing, among the blue of his parents’ own flowers.
“It’s a fire lily,” Hakoda explained then, waiting with all the patience in the world as Sokka processed the information himself.
Red. Fire. He’d never seen them in person, but everyone in the tribe knew the stories of the Fire Nation raids, when they’d stolen every waterbender for the sole purpose of weakening the Southern Water Tribe. Red meant danger, badness . It shouldn’t be swathed against his skin now, not in this flower, not where there should be blue.

lol why is Merlin trending?
anyway guess this is a good time to let my many au’s free
1) ATLA Au (+gender flip)
{gender flipped Arthur} is Princess of the fire nation (uther is obviously ozai). Her sort of adopted (or maybe cousin? Idk) brother-not-really {gender-flipped-Morgana} speaks out against some injustice and gets burned for it. Then mysteriously disappears. Years later a runaway {Morgana} and his friend, a non-bender earth kingdom citizen who’s brother and father are off fighting in the war, (it’s Gwen) find the avatar. The avatar (Merlin) is a water bender (don’t ask why, I don’t know) and both water tribes have been decimated (the air nomads are fine. They’ve been mostly staying out of the war)
anyway redemption arcs ensue, firelord overthrowing and avatar ig happen. And Obviously merthur shenanigans.
2) The sorcerer and the sword that once-was-but-is-no-longer in the stone
Loosely based of webcomic I read (swordid I think?)
basically: sorcerer dude made Excalibur, the weapon got super Out of hand and eventually his apprentice merlin took the sword and stuck it in a rock, then gave his life to ensure it would only be used by the Worthy (no he does not know the criteria for the “Worthy” at this time but he’s trying okay). later a prince needs the sword, it gets passed around a bit more and then Eventually picked up by Arthur.
they go on adventures, stuff stuff lake, wow merlin is no longer in the sword awsome
3) Mandalorian Au (and kinda in a way a roleswap but not really)
I have no regrets or excuses fuck you
uther is a mandalorian. After ygraine is kidnapped a year after Arthur is born he kinda goes crazy searching for her (uther deadbeat dad. Wow). Uther dies, Arthur is raised by gloris . Bam there’s a Small Jedi. It’s Merlin, he and his master (gaius) got separated. Merlin and Arthur go on awsome adventures, get kidnapped, beat up slavers, and blow shit up.
they don’t see each other for another 5 years (yikes) and when they meet again Merlin is Not Okay. They go on more adventures, uncover sith plots, reveal tragic backstories (just because uther is dead doesn’t mean Merlin is safe hehe), and do stupid merthur stuff.
I have so many aus There are multiple folders in my notes app dedicated to Merlin

5 ask game: atla au where zuko won the agni kai against his father
Oh interesting...
1- Zuko wins, and Ozai is down. Zuko could, by rights, kill him. Instead he rather loudly says the point is proved and honor his, and he will not sully that honor by committing patricide and regicide. He walks away as the stunned crowd watches. Ozai, who would have burned a surrendering child, certainly has no qualms about attacking one in the back. Zuko goes down and it's chaos.
2- some in the crowd cheer for Ozai, others don't, jaws dropped because this started when Zuko said it was wrong to send out those young recruits to die, and now Ozai broke the law and code of the Agni Kai in order to attack a child, his own son. It's easy to dispose of the recruits from the commoners, to sacrifice them for the good of the noble county. It's a bit harder for some of them to swallow a leader who sees them as equally disposable. The Crown Prince bested his father, and now the Fire Lord is the one acting against his better. What does that mean for the crown? The war? Iroh leaps to his feet and calls for guards and doctors for both of them, injured as they are, and they are quickly separated as the court looks around and tries to place new alliances.
3- Iroh does not focus on the court - after securing Zuko's physical safety, he reaches to those he knows outside the Caldera, tells them the news. The people have fought a long war, and so many never seen the benefit of it directly. Some even harmed, rather directly. A prince who fights with honor and them in mind could be very appealing.
4- Azula is forgotten, in the hubbub. It's a very novel experience for her, and she doesn't like it one bit. She doesn't like that Zuko wasn't as weak as she assumed. She's stronger than him, right? So then she's even stronger then father? If Zuko can take the throne from dad, then Azula can take it from Zuko! (She is like. 11. Girl wouldn't be ruling anything.)
5- the Court is in furious whispers and fragile alliances as Ozai returns to the throne, acting as if nothing has happened, as if Zuko isn't constantly surrounded and hidden from him as possible. But then a trembling magistrate opens a letter from a factory along the river, making the armor and machines needed for their navy. The factory refuses to produce any more, unless they receive one of two things: 1- word of an apology to Crown Prince Zuko for the grave insult paid him, or 2- an order from Fire Lord Zuko to continue production. This isn't the only letter. Ozai made his choice, to stand in the Agni Kai, and by Agni, they will not pretend he has not offended the sun and it's people by what he did there.

Ok but au where Lu Ten survives and he teams up with Azula and Ozai. Ignored the very messy sketches.
+ thinking on the relationship of Lu Ten and Iroh basing on the bitch ass book.
Tumblr media
Also I like the idea of Iroh being a strict general dad with Lu Ten when his son starts to grow up and being part of the army and not knowing how to be a good parent during those times.

Can you do more of the Lu Ten back from the dead AU?
That describes more than one AU of mine, so I have chosen the one where Zuko is brainwashed by the Dai Li, and while under Lake Laogai, finds his cousin. Continued from: [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], and [Link].
Aang wakes up, with, what must be said, is perfect, and perfectly awful, timing. Lu Ten is just about to make his escape, when the Avatar opens his eyes and starts having a freak out about being on a Fire Nation ship, and about how he failed to save Ba Sing Se from being conquered by Azula (Azula? His little cousin, Azula? That Azula? Conquered Ba Sing Se?) So of course Lu Ten does what all good little Fire Princes do, and tries to follow him, because that's the Avatar! He should capture him and take him home to the Fire Nation, and come out of his captivity covered in glory! His father and grandfather will be so proud.
So of course when Aang ends up stuck on some driftwood and washed ashore by the kindly Moon Spirit, Lu Ten ends up washed up, half drowned, on the beach with him. And he's still half drowned and wondering if he really saw the Moon Spirit, or just hallucinated that bit, when the Avatar's friends show up. After the hugs and reassurances, the question quickly becomes what to do with Lu Ten. The problem of course is several fold. 1) he is a danger, because he just tried to pull a Zuko and kidnap Aang. 2) He was pretty useless about it. Zuko could have done better in his sleep. This shows that Lu Ten is still kind if not fully with it, and kind of needs to be taken care of. 3) And Lu Ten's dad is in prison for helping them-
Wait what? His dad is in prison for helping the Avatar and a bunch of teenage enemies of the Fire Nation? His cousin Azula, who last he checked was eight, conquered Ba Sing Se? His cousin Zuko, who is ten, which is, he supposes, not much younger than the twelve year old Avatar, but still ("I'm pretty sure I'm thirteen now, actually, I mean dates are weird with the whole being frozen for a hundred years thing, but...") is not only trying to kidnap the Avatar on the regular, but is apparently doing pretty well at it ("uh, we wouldn't go that far... Also Zuko's sixteen, and Azula's like, fourteen, we think? It's not like she told us.") Oh okay, Zuko is sixteen. He was captive for six years? Six years? Oh. Oh okay. Okay. Wait, who had his dad imprisoned? What do you mean Firelord Ozai? How did Uncle Ozai become firelord if his dad is still alive?
What the Avatar and his companions tell him is confused and disjointed, but what what explaination he does get paints a bleak picture, especially when they tell him that both his father and his cousin said that Ozai, and/or Azula would probably kill him if they found out he was alive. Lu Ten has no idea what to do, and finds himself trailing along after a bunch of teenagers ("Toph's twelve") by default. And when one of those teenagers ends up being dragged off to school, and then getting in trouble at said school, and having to have a parent teacher conference, Lu Ten is the only adult in reach. He works out in his head how much older he would be than his supposed son. If the Avatar is thirteen, and Zuko is sixteen, and Zuko was born when LunTen was ten, he would have been a father at thirteen himself.
Fortunately for everyone involved, six (it's six, right? Wow.) years of captivity have aged Lu Ten beyond what is expected, and he looks far beyond his twenty-six years, old enough to pass as Aang's father. He does his best with stolen clothes and his reflection in a pool of water in the cave they've been hiding in. The Dai Li kept his head shaved, and it's only had a little time to grow out into a spiky fuzz all over his head. He looks like a disgrace, his topknot shorn, the delinquent father of a delinquent son. But it's the best he can do. He isn't exactly surprised when the principal threatens his "son" with being sent to the coal mines. He also doesn't believe a word of it.
After Aang holds his little dance party, amd they all have to run out of town, he finds himself on the road with a pack of children, and is baffled by how many "adventures they find themselves in, impersonating spirits (a Fire Nation town shouldn't be in this kind of squallor!), getting taught by Piandao (who Lu Ten stays well away from, since Piandao could recognize him), dodging assassins, and running into secret waterbending blood witches. That last one was horrifying in so many different ways. She wanted... She tried to kill him. She tried to force the others to kill him. She... Was, at least on some level, a captive like him.
And at the end of it all, when they meet up with the ragtag "army" heading to storm the Fire Nation capital, he hears about the eclipse. And he decides that while the rest of them are trying to take on Ozai, he's going to spring his father. So, he slips away during the fighting and heads for the capital prison tower. Hopefully that's where his father is being kept. And Lu Ten might not have Zuko's ability to break into and out of almost anything, but it hardly matters, because he has barely made it inside when his father, having broken himself out, runs into him, and they leave together.
All this means is that when Zuko (who never did tell anybody about his cousin being alive, which is going to make his tearful reunion with his uncle and cousin a little less awful) shows up to the Western Air Temple, the Gaang is short one Fire Prince. And now they have a new one. Yay! And once he starts to become friends with them, they've got a whole bunch of questions about just what exactly is going on with his family. And yeah, the answers he gives are, well, they are... Wow, Zuko, no wonder you're so messed up!

If you’re looking for prompts, I’d love to see more imagines where Hakoda adopts Azula and Zuko. If not, that’s alright. Just wanted to say I love your content(I’m new to tumblr and you were the first person I followed- a decision I do not regret in the slightest).
Thanks for the ask!!
Thank you so much for this! For the ask, for loving my content and for following me. Welcome to Tumblr! I hope you'll like it here. I don't have any incorrect quotes but here are some Hakoda adopting Azula and Zuko headcanons.
Canon:
Hakoda would know about the Agni Kai with Zuko and his father when it happens but he thinks it's just propaganda. Of course people would say that the Fire Nation is so horrible their own leader burned and banished his son. He only believes it when his son tells him about Zuko and the giant scar on his face. After the Boiling Rock, Hakoda does ask Zuko about his scar and tells him what happened.
Hakoda doesn't get to adopt Zuko officially because of Iroh, but he's okay with Zuko thinking of him as secondary paternal figure.
A few months after the war, Zuko got sick and Hakoda, being the only one in the Fire Nation, took care of him. It was the first time Zuko called him dad.
Azula would be a little more complicated. It's only after months of therapy that she finally accepts Ozai's abuse and starts to heal. She returns to the palace about a year after the war ends and that's when she meets Hakoda again. Similar to Zuko, she has no clue how to act around father figures. Because of this she often flinches when she thinks Hakoda is angry at her which makes him more careful not to raise his voice.
A few months after she returns to the palace, Azula continuously has nightmares because, while being her home, this place would still be a constant reminder of her abusive father, neglectful mother and her biggest failure. One day, when Hakoda is returning to the South Pole, he finds out that Azula snuck aboard and she asks him if she can come with him to the South Pole.
Of course, Hakoda can't turn her away so he invites her to the Southern Water Tribe. She learns to love the village, despite the cold, very quickly. Katara and Sokka are a little uneasy around her, but Hakoda asks them to give her a chance. Hakoda does send a letter to Zuko telling him his sister is in the South Pole so he can call off the search part. Zuko comes down and spends a week there to make sure Azula is comfortable. Not only do Azula and Zuko spend time with Katara and Sokka, eating Water Tribe food, getting into snowball fights and helping them rebuild the village but they also get to spend time with Hakoda and find out how a real father treats his children. When Zuko leaves to return to the Fire Nation, Azula thanks Hakoda for letting her stay and calls him her dad.
AU:
It's important to note that @ilikepjo24 came up with this AU which is that Hakoda finds out about Azula taking ADHD pills to help her study and takes them away. I'm just helping them expand it. Ask if you want to know any more.
Azula and Zuko are in foster care when they turn 11 and 13 (for obvious reasons) and are tossed around from family to family (some good and some bad). Ursa is out of the picture so she can't take them and Iroh wasn't granted custody by the courts so he can't take them. When Azula and Zuko are 14 and 16 they're placed with Hakoda and Kya.
Hakoda and Kya love them both but Azula and Zuko are hesitate about trusting them because of so many bad foster parents and they start betting on how long they'll last.
Slowly, Hakoda and Kya prove themselves to be good foster parents. They take the two on vacation, buy stuff for them, let Iroh come see them, and comfort them. Sokka and Katara also act as good foster siblings who try to help Zuko and Azula meet more people and get situated in their home.
However, Hakoda finds out Azula starts taking ADHD pills to help her study. He takes them away and Azula fails one of her finals. Terrified of how he'll react, Azula hides away at Ty Lee's house while sends Hakoda and Kya into a panic because they have no idea where their daughter is. Finally, Ty Lee tells Zuko she has her and Zuko tells Hakoda and Kya where she is. Kya goes to pick her up and takes her back to the house. Azula expects to be kicked out, for Hakoda to hit her or Kya to say she doesn't love her anymore, but her only punishment is no phone for a month and she had to come home right after school everyday.
Zuko and Azula both still worry that Hakoda and Kya will one day get sick of them and send them back to foster care so the parents decide to adopt them and officially make them their son and daughter.

 Kirby becomes a Star Warrior / Sir Uther (OC)
Now I’ve seen Uther used from the Arthurian mythos in other Kirby AU merely defining him as Sir Arthur’s father who he inherited the GSA from. Not many are written as straight up bad guys, that is until today Sir Uther is a villain in the KBASW universe and he’s not Arthur’s dad in this one just mentor in the story (but frankly he shouldn’t be anyone’s dad.)
I just had to post this before publishing the story cause everyone’s gonna wonder “who’s he when reading?” So yeah this is the face of Uther, when he’s mentioned in the story.
I definitely wrote him as the guy everyone hates and though he maybe gone, his selfishness and pride were what ultimately what brought down the GSA. After his death Arthur vowed to reverse and rewrite the mistakes of Uther’s cruelty; becoming the new leader of the GSA. Arthur was and still afraid of his old mentor, his influenced is what made Arthur hide MK’s wings all the time. Meta thought Arthur was afraid of his demon side when in reality he was afraid of Uther. Uther does and kicks off many of the downfalls and tragedies of the GSA & MK’s crew. Due to his own prejudices towards Meta which come back to haunt him.
This Uther is highly inspired by Merlin (2008) Uther the show’s but if your want to hear more explanation on the character but basically yeah the Uther in that show hates magic and kills many innocent people because of that so just switch that around with Nightmare and his demons and yeah same principals.
Also his character color scheme is actually based off the Queen of Hearts from Alice & Wonderland. A bit of foreshadowing of his temperament as well as his madness.
And his relationship with Galacta Knight; well let’s just say his ego was knocked down a peg once Galacta was recognized as the strongest warrior in the galaxy by the Ancients. Before Galacta it was Uther and he was the leader of the GSA because of that... with Galacta there he felt his authority was challenged..
He guys I’ve been actually working on this OC for months since I named dropped him in Dec. it’s also my first OC and let me tell you creating an OC is tough, I hope my efforts were worth it and you guys like it.
keep reading the content character explanation below...
Now I’ve seen a lot of people characterize Sir Arthur as a well-meaning person who’s just stuck in their old ways. Sometimes straight-up “good guy” or “leader” who live long enough to see themselves become the villain; similar to the many interpretations depending on which version you see/
Now I don’t mind Uther being interpreted as a good guy or someone in the grey area but I’m just surprised with the lack of villainous Uthers. A constant in Arthurian legend is that Uther has always been a rotten human being. In the original story of Arthur’s conception, Uther wanted to get with the Duke of Cornwall's wife and started a war because of it. (I'm not going to explain any more of the story but yeah you should read the original for the rest of it.) But yeah he straight-kicks up war cause he gets what he wants which ends up being betrayed by his own people.
I wanted to take that type of self-destructive villainy from the original Uther making him as despicable as the original from the story. With a little mix of my own spin on the character with some modern-day villains too.
When designing his character I knew I wanted to have some foreshadowing and symbolism in his design. I really wanted to make him very intimidating along with the level of regality. I ended up thinking about old-school villains from Disney and I came up with Queen of Hearts which fit his character perfectly. And after I just knew I had to give him a scythe as his weapon no questions asked! He’d definitely say “OFF WITH YOUR HEAD”, before slicing up one of his victims.
And I got a bit of inspiration from Avatar’s Ozai too similar temperament as well. that’s how I got the idea to have Uther control fire as well as light. Which emerged the idea for his wings. Couldn’t decide whether I wanted to give him dragon wings or bird wings... But when the concept of Phoenix wings came up I knew I could work more story into them than just the dragon wings.
I also wanted to show the importance of status to him with his armor and cape & mantle; being adored with gold.  His mask has two colors red & black very reminiscent of a checkerboard; conveying his two-facedness. Seeing his soldiers as pawns wanting to be in control of everything. I hope I was able to convey that in his design... He cares so much about his position and hates when his authority is questioned in any way; he makes sure everyone knows who’s in charge.
When I call Uther an elitist, I mean that he would give very little care to the soldiers who were not as puffballs and would immediately categorize them as lesser beings. During the war when the GSA & the ancients were defining other galaxies' worth: they would prioritize the more advanced civilization and the lesser solar system was the last to be protected. This eventually formed the Star Systems Alliance (or the S.S.A.) which was controlled by the Ancients, the GSA elites, and the upper crusts of the galaxy so yeah corrupt government everybody.
I got this idea in the Wolfwrath episode with Sword & Blade explaining their backstories as he described that the war had turned the galaxy into a wasteland and that they had to become bandits & thieves to survive.
So yeah that’s basically what Uther’s doing... he would use lesser planets as battlegrounds, and make many of the inhabitants helpless. This is how the volunteer army gets started.  The GSA would offer benefits and supplies to those who volunteer to join. However they’d have to live long enough to actually receive these benefits. So yeah he took advantage of lesser planets to get new soldiers and made sure they’d be his battle plan guinea pigs.
This brings Jecra and Garlude into that mix as well... Jerca who had just lost his partner did not have the means to provide for his baby son (Knuckle Joe). He had his parents but they were too old to work. Heard about the GSA’s offer and signed up; his parents weren’t sure and knew their son would be on the front line. But Jecra brought up the point that it’s either that or they all die by starvation. Sadly they agreed and promised to take care of Joe.
As for Garlude she was noble and had people under her care, the war had been pulling resources away from her people. Her husband (a man she married out of obligation but was friends with) went himself to negotiate for resources with the Ancients & from the S.S Alliance but mysteriously disappeared afterward. So to find out the truth of her husband’s disappearance and to provide for her people (as well as her daughter) joins the volunteer army.
Eventually, there were so many who volunteered that they needed someone to supervise and train them. Uther didn’t want to waste training these volunteers and use one of his elite soldiers (they were gonna die quickly anyway). Then there was the Meta newly knighted Star Warrior, who he rejected into joining the Holy Knights. The other higher-up knights and ancients didn’t know what to do with him because they didn’t want MK to represent them and they were all looking to Uther for an answer. It was more of a way to stall until he could think of what to properly what to do with him properly. Which was probably the best thing he could have done for MK.
After 4 months of training, Meta Knight wants to join their ranks and become the sole person in charge of the Volunteer Army. Which lowers his status never being able to join the higher-ups. Uther thinks this is a great way to save face and get rid of MK. To him, Meta was finally accepting his fate of dying on the battlefield, but to Meta Knight, he was freeing himself from all of them.
And with that MK renamed the group Team Halberd... and became the most beloved group of Knights of the GSA. And Uther became pissed he’d give MK and his group the most difficult missions but that made them more famous. Things only started going south for the team after the fall of the Ancients & Yami’s betrayal. Also, Yamikage was not part of Team Halberd he was part of the ninja section of the army which Dragato was in charge of.  (And yes I made the MK ship into angst fuel Halberd the ship being named in honor of his original unit). And Uther starts to go mad and plays a big role in Kirby’s birth... hope you guys stay to find out.

Febuwhump Day 1 - Helpless
Fandom: Avatar/Mirror's Edge crossover au
Characters: Sokka, Katara
HELPLESS
Gunfire echoed in the crawlspace. Plastic pellets ricocheted off the concrete wall outside. Katara shrieked, flinching in Sokka’s protective hold.
“Shh, quiet!” he said, his voice pitched in a low whisper. “They’ll hear you!”
Katara nodded, and put her hands over her mouth. Sokka peeked out through the slats of the vent grate that concealed them from the street. Clouds of tear gas obstructed his view of the clashing protestors and OSec enforcers. He clenched his fists. They weren’t doing anything wrong! Why did the enforcers start shooting?
A VTOL flew overhead, rotors clearing the tear gas away as it hovered, revealing a horrifying tableau: a line of protestors on their knees, OSec enforcers standing guard. In the middle of the line, Sokka could see his mom and dad. He gasped, and pulled Katara closer into him so she wouldn’t see. Even over the VTOL, though, they heard everything.
“You can’t do this, Ozai,” Dad said, hands bound behind his back. “We have rights! The Conglomerate can’t just dictate whatever it likes!”
“Employs such as yourself should refrain from causing a public disturbance,” the man called Ozai said. He was tall, dressed in enforcer armor, and when he removed his helmet Sokka got a good look at his face: haughty, cruel, with piercing golden eyes and a well-groomed beard. “Illegal assembly, inciting a riot, assaulting members of the security services, and resisting arrest are all serious breaches of policy.”
“To hell with your policy!” Dad spat. “The Assembly won’t roll over for you or your corporate dogs!”
“They already have,” Ozai said with a triumphant smirk. Sokka clapped a hand over his mouth as OSec began to execute protestors. Dad and mom struggled to break free, to fight back, but they were helpless against OSec, helpless to stop Ozai as he drew his own gun—armed with lead slugs to kill—and fired.
The first shot went through dad’s eye. The enforcer holding him was splattered with flecks of blood and bone. Mom screamed and lunged for Ozai. The second shot went through her chest. Maybe it went through her heart. From this angle, Sokka couldn’t see. What he did see was his mom crumple to the ground, twitching and bleeding, while Ozai holstered his gun.
“Clean this up,” Ozai ordered.
“Yes, Commissioner!”
Sokka and Katara huddled silently as OSec removed the bodies. They remained in place as street cleaners came and removed the blood and debris.
“Sokka, I’m hungry,” Katara said.
“We don’t know if it’s safe yet,” Sokka replied, his own stomach growling.
A pair of running shoes stopped by the grate. Katara gasped in shock, and then Bato’s face appeared.
“Sokka? Katara?” He called quietly. “It’s okay. You can come out, now.”
“Where’s mom?” Katara asked as she clambered out.
“I’m sorry, Katara,” Bato said, shaking his head.
“Where will we go now?” Sokka asked.
“Somewhere safe,” Bato said. “Follow me.”
At 15, Sokka had watched the Conglomerate murder his parents. He vowed he would never be helpless again.

Fictober 2023 Day 4
Read on AO3 Fandom: Avatar: the Last Airbender Prompt: 29 - "That's all? Easy." Rating: Gen Characters: Zuko, Azula, Ozai, Ursa, (Iroh and Lu Ten mentioned) Ship: N/A Warnings: implied child abuse, mentions of a child character committing murders Notes: AU where Zuko is trained to be a spy and assassin for Ozai.
Many within the Fire Nation would say Zuko and Azula were like night and day; which was very much the truth.
Azula was well known to be the golden child, the light of the Fire Nation. She was a firebending protegee who became the youngest person to create blue flames at the age of 10. She was also considered to be a tactical genius.
Zuko on the other hand was seen as Ozai's disappointment heir. He was not a strong firebender and to the point, the young prince will never be seen firebending in public. He was considered too emotional to be good at strategy or war. Zuko was often considered to be hidden in the shadows of his younger sister; little did they know that that was how he liked it.
It all started when the boy was 10.
Zuko was sitting by the turtleduck pond while he read a theater scroll.
"What are you doing, dum-dum?" Azula asked.
Zuko startled at the voice and dropped his theater scroll.
"Leave me alone," Zuko snapped. He leaned down to pick up the scroll.
"Are you reading one of those stupid scrolls that Mom gets you?" Azula asked knowing full well the answer.
Zuko blushed and protectively pulled the scroll into his chest. He knew that his younger sister was more than willing to burn it if she got her hands on it.
"None of your business, Azula," Zuko snapped.
Azula let out a sigh that only an 8-year-old who thought they knew everything could.
"Maybe if you spent as much time as you do reading theator scrolls you would actually be good at something," Azula said.
"I'm good at stuff," Zuko protested.
"Really like what?" Azula asked.
Zuko froze. He was good with the sword according to Master Piando but he couldn't say that. If he told Azula then it would make its way to their father and Father would be so mad.
"Sneaking around," Zuko finally shot back.
It was true as growing up with Azula and Father had ensured that he knew how to not be seen or heard.
"I bet you can't sneak into Dad's office," Azula said.
Zuko knew exactly what his sister was doing. She was setting him up so that he would get in big trouble with their father. None of them were allowed in that room. However, the 10-year-old's pride didn't allow him to back down.
"That's all? Easy," Zuko said.
A wide smile of a predator appeared on Azula's face. He knew at that instance that he had played into her hand, but Zuko wouldn't take back the words.
"Great then go do it," Azula said.
"I will," Zuko shot back. The boy stormed off to go do it with his heart in his stomach.
~~~
Ozai did a quick scan of his office before he sat down at his desk. He could never be too careful as he planned how to usurp his brother while he was at Ba Sing Se.
Ozai then began to work on his plans and the actual work the Fire Lord had assigned him.
It was towards sunset close to the time that they would eat dinner when he heard the noise.
It sounded like a bang and a whimper.
Ozai walked over to the cabinet (that he swore he looked at when he first arrived in his office) with a flame in his hand ready to burn whatever decided to sneak into his office. When he opened it he was met with a surprise.
Instead of some animal or small assassin, his oldest child looked at him with gold eyes wide in horror at being caught with his hand frozen on his elbow likely rubbing where he bumped it.
Anger rose in Ozai. He had told his children that they weren't allowed to be in his office. Of course, his failure of a son wouldn't listen to direct orders.
"How long have you been in here?" Ozai demanded. He hadn't heard the boy enter the room but he also couldn't have been in here before him.
Zuko flinched back as far as he could go.
"I don't know before you came in here," Zuko said.
"Liar," Ozai snarled. There was no way that the boy could have hidden from his search.
Zuko shrunk back.
"Honest, there is a small gap between the cabinets and the ceiling. After you sat down I hid in the cabinet in case you looked up," Zuko pleaded.
Ozai looked up at the mentioned gap and saw it. Ozai had dismissed it as a security threat as it was too small for an assassin to hide in and too high for a hole to be cut into to listen to him or see what he was doing. Clearly, he underestimated it like his son.
His son remained hidden for hours and likely hours more if he wasn't so clumsy.
Zuko was an awful firebender. He wasn't in any way smart. He was brash, impulsive, and far too sensitive to really be worth anything, but perhaps his talents could lie elsewhere.
If Zuko was so silent and sneaky he would make a good assassin. It would be shameful if word got out but the boy could be just the tool he would need against Iroh. After all his brother and his nephew adored the boy and they likely wouldn't think twice about telling their secrets to him which would get back to Ozai.
Yes, this boy will actually be of use to him.
"Follow me," Ozai said.
Zuko shot his father a confused look. Ozai paid it no mind. He walked through the halls with his son following behind.
Ozai then barged into the room that his wife was in. She seemed to be reading some scroll. She looked up in confusion and concern.
"Ozai..." Ursa began.
"You will teach him everything you know about poison," Ozai said. He left no room for arguments He left his wife and son staring after him in confusion.
~~~ Book 2: Earth Kingdom
Zuko knelt down in front of his father.
"You wished to see me," Zuko said.
"Your uncle is a traitor," Fire Lord Ozai said.
Perhaps that should have surprised Zuko but it doesn't. He knew that his uncle didn't like the war anymore nor did he care for Ozai. Iroh had always attempted to get close to the siblings after he returned 1 year after the failed siege. Azula had never given the man the time of day. Zuko had once wanted to but between the amount of classes he was taking and the inability to talk about them, Zuko ended up pushing his uncle away. Then two years later Iroh agreed to search for the Avatar like his father before him and that was the last he had seen of the old man.
"I want you to kill him and make it seem like it was the Earth Kingdom," Ozai continued.
Perhaps the order should have filled him with horror and pain, but it didn't. Zuko just felt numb. His uncle was like any other life he had taken just related to him and considering how little they knew about each other it might as well just be a stranger.
"It will be done, My Lord," Zuko said.
Ozai waved his hand to dismiss his assassin son.
