“‘Come out, English soldier; come out here to us.’ For some little time we were cautious, and did not even answer. Officers, fearing treachery, ordered the men to be silent. But up and down our line one heard the men answering that Christmas greeting from the enemy. How could we resist wishing each other Merry Christmas, even though we might be at each other’s throats immediately afterwards? So we kept up a running conversation with the Germans, all the while our hands ready on our rifles. Blood and peace, enmity and fraternity - war’s most amazing paradox. The night wore on to dawn - a night made easier by songs from the German trenches, the pipings of piccolos and from our broad lines laughter and Christmas carols. Not a shot was fired." -Peace on the Western Front: Goodwill in No-man's Land - The Story of the World War I Christmas Truce {Smithsonian Magazine}

During the first eight weeks of World War I, French and British troops stopped the German attack through Belgium into France outside Paris at the First Battle of the Marne in early September 1914. The Germans fell back to the Aisne valley, where they dug in. In the First Battle of the Aisne, the Franco–British attacks were repulsed and both sides began digging trenches to economise on manpower and use the surplus to outflank, to the north, their opponents. In the Race to the Sea, the two sides made reciprocal outflanking manoeuvres and after several weeks, during which the British forces were withdrawn from the Aisne and sent north to Flanders, both sides ran out of room. By November, armies had built continuous lines of trenches running from the North Sea to the Swiss frontier.
The Christmas truce (German: Weihnachtsfrieden; French: Trêve de Noël; Dutch: Kerstbestand) was a series of widespread unofficial ceasefires along the Western Front of the First World War around Christmas 1914. The truce occurred five months after hostilities had begun. Lulls occurred in the fighting as armies ran out of men and munitions and commanders reconsidered their strategies following the stalemate of the Race to the Sea and the indecisive result of the First Battle of Ypres. In the week leading up to 25 December, French, German and British soldiers crossed trenches to exchange seasonal greetings and talk. In some areas, men from both sides ventured into no man's land on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to mingle and exchange food and souvenirs. There were joint burial ceremonies and prisoner swaps, while several meetings ended in carolling. Men played games of football with one another, creating one of the most memorable images of the truce. Hostilities continued in some sectors, while in others the sides settled on little more than arrangements to recover bodies. The following year, a few units arranged ceasefires but the truces were not nearly as widespread as in 1914; this was, in part, due to strongly worded orders from commanders, prohibiting truces. Soldiers were no longer amenable to truce by 1916; the war had become increasingly bitter after the human losses suffered during the battles of 1915.
The truces were not unique to the Christmas period and reflected a mood of "live and let live", where infantry close together would stop fighting and fraternise, engaging in conversation. In some sectors, there were occasional ceasefires to allow soldiers to go between the lines and recover wounded or dead comrades; in others, there was a tacit agreement not to shoot while men rested, exercised or worked in view of the enemy. The Christmas truces were particularly significant due to the number of men involved and the level of their participation—even in quiet sectors, dozens of men openly congregating in daylight was remarkable—and are often seen as a symbolic moment of peace and humanity amidst one of the most violent conflicts in human history.
-from Wikipedia's article; "Christmas truce"
"Having a gunfight on {a Holy night/timeframe} wouldn't be right." -Germany
Say what you will about "Hetalia", but this sequence was semi-based on real historical events - Real events that should be much more well known.

I need more roleplay partners
This is an active attempt at making people want to roleplay with me, because I just need more active ones, other than the one that I currently have (they're irreplaceable for sure!)
Now, I accept anything MxM and FxF, shipping OCs is cool, but I mainly ship things from fandoms (I am quite sure that you will recognise at least one of these, trust me). I find gore completely fine and I come for drama, as long as it doesn't come out of nowhere. I write in a weird mix between semi-lit and literate. If I keep myself short, I either don't know what to write or I am preoccupied with something else at the moment. 18+ stuff is good too, I am 20 (I am a pure bottom, but not all that I roleplay is submissive, most of them stand their ground quite well). I am a very creative person, who will most likely find a plot in anything, so if you want to add things aswell, just let me know!
These are the fandoms that I roleplay (+ if I am desperate to roleplay in it lol)
♤Dream Daddy (not really desperate, only doing it if I get to be Damien)
♡Spaloon 1-3 (yes, yes, yes, all of them queer tentacle creatures!)
♤Pokemon (every generation is fine, we can even be the Pokemon, I am a furry)
♡No Straight Roads (I had an incident, not doing it for at least the next few months)
♤The Stanley Parable (not really desperate, I've done it quite a bit)
♡Countryhumans (it's been at least three years, very desperate and I make a good Germany and Finland)
♤Undertale/Deltarune (I never really mind it, even the AUs are cool)
♡Team Fortress 2 (always up for it, if I get to be either Medics)
♤Super Mario/Luigi's Mansion 2-3 (I want to do it from time to time)
♡Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 3-4 (the most desperate, poor Kakyoin got done dirty!)
♤Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss (eh, could be worse, I'm obsessed with Staticmoth (don't expect me to be Val though))
♡Detroit Become Human (not desperate, but I can make exceptions)
♤Yokai Watch (I just think this one to be fun)
♡Pikmin 1-4 (I'd be willing to try it)
♤Super Smash Bros (I'd be Mii Swordfighter because he's my main)
♡Steven Universe (I'd be up to do it, respectfully for the lesbian space rocks)
♤My Little Pony (Sure, why not!)
♡Sonic (I don't know much, but I am still willing to do it)
♤Villainous (I make a good Flug and Slug, not desperate though)
♡Good Omens (I have not seen the second season yet, but still!)
♤Hetalia (I am not really knowledgeable, but I can roleplay as Ludwig)
♡Sanders Sides (there are possibilities)
♤Fnaf (I really like being Bonnie of any kind ^^)
♡Cookie Run Kingdom (there's good potential in it!)
♤Wander Over Yander (I literally only want to do deathglare and to be Peepers!)
♡Legends Of Avantris - specifically Once Upon A Witchlight or Stardust Rhapsody (honestly, I would absolutely love to!)
If you are interested in roleplaying with me now, you can comment or dm me. If you prefer roleplaying with me on Discord, I can send you my Discord in dms.

Tally ho lads, welcome to the second installment of (the newly named)
Memeburger.
Today's victim:
Tumblr media
This
Fucking
Thing.
Tumblr media
My boyfriend was showing me that one old Hetalia anime blog chronicling the mishaps of the ever-infamous Studio DEEN's anime adaptation, and we came across this affront to your deity of choice. I immediately decided I had to make it myself. With proper seasoning, despite my boyfriend's protests.
This is the result.
Tumblr media
My main goal was to replicate the look of the reference, while still being... y'know, edible. To that end, when I toasted the buns (both of which were top buns), I covered it up with mayo to keep the untoasted look of the bottom bun on the reference. I also decided to try out a trick I learned a day or so ago where mustard is used as a seasoning seared into the patty rather than a condiment, leaving next to no trace of itself. Aside from that, seasonings were kept minimal; a healthy amount of salt and pepper. After a three-ish minute sear on each side, it was time to plate up. Special care was taken to replicate the lopsided lettuce, though I only had access to iceberg lettuce that didn't quite match the deep green color reminiscent of romaine lettuce in the reference photo. After letting it rest for another three-ish minutes, Judgement was nigh.
The verdict?
Tumblr media
I actually really enjoyed this, if only because the mustard left a distinctly not-mustard taste that unlocked a core memory of a Mexican street food vendor my family frequented long ago. There's not many moving parts in the flavor profile, but in many cases (including this one), that's not a bad thing. Quite frankly, I'm surprised to have taken to it this well. Overall, I rate this memeburger 4 attempts by Japan on the lives of his friends out of 5.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

Various games Himaruya has worked on: a small compilation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Warning: 3/4 of them are horror games)
With my newest hyperfixation now being visual novels, I've recently turned my attention to some of the visual novel-style games Hima has made in the past. There's a few super short personal project ones like Noto-sama and Cleaning Prussia which he made in pre-anime adaptation times, but I just want to share the more notable/interesting ones I know about.
Gakuen Hetalia (2011-2012)
Tumblr media
You've probably heard of this one. Given that it was released in the early seasons of the anime adaptation, it has that art style, for better or for worse. I honestly thought the existence of this game was a joke when I first heard of it but no it's a real game, developed by the one and only Otomate and released for the DS and PSP. It's an otome game with Seychelles as the protagonist, and is fully voiced. From what I've heard about this game, there's not much romance and has mostly platonic interactions. Also Gakuen AU.
Since this is pretty much a game adaptation of the anime, this is probably the one that Hima least had a hand in making, as compared to the ones I'm about to talk about. Still a neat game in its own right.
The Hetalian Horror Show (2015)
Tumblr media
Another one you might have heard of if you browse Hetarchive, which has a partial translation for this game. This one's a fairly short free game set in the Gakuen AU (again) with Bulgaria as the protagonist. It's basically about a couple of the nations gathering to tell 'scary' stories (whether they're actually scary varies). Features highlights such as:
Robul moment
America casually revealing Classified Government Secrets
Bear Grylls
Iggy bullying
Low-key nsfw illustration of Bul butt-naked and tied up
And a twist ending you will not believe! (not clickbait)
Like the other free games he's made, Hetahorror is completely made by Hima (even the background images were taken by him). You can download the game here from his blog. And Hetarchive's partial translation is here.
Now here are the non-Hetalia ones (which I think are a little more interesting)
Apathy Midnight Collection: Volume 1 (2007)
Tumblr media
See those characters in the top right? That's Hima's art. Yeah. This game is a horror anthology game released all the way back in 2007, with three different stories and each having different writers and artists. The first two stories are the longest (apparently they have over a hundred different endings combined), and if you look around I think you can find some posts about them, they're quite interesting. The one Hima did the illustrations (and direction) for is the final story, Hashira no Kizu (or Scratches on the Pillar), which is the one that I heard leans the hardest into the horror atmosphere, and is quite different overall from the other two stories.
If you're curious about this game, you can purchase it here on BOOTH, and you can find an English fan translation here.
By the way, this game is a retelling of sorts of a much older game (from the 90s!) called Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi (Scary Stories at School). Which leads me to this game...
Inaka no Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi (2014-2016)
Tumblr media
This is a full-length visual novel made by Hima's doujin group Shimaoka Kenkou Land, and it's a homage to the aforementioned Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi. It's pretty similar in setting to Hetahorror (in fact that game was probably inspired by that too), with students coming together to share their horror stories. It's very atmospheric, with a lot of ambient noises and background images which really drive home the 'inaka/countryside' part of the story. Hetahorror had shades of this too, so consider this a 'deluxe' version lol. Except unlike the Hetalia one I feel this game is actually pretty scary ngl...there's a lot of comedic moments, but also just as many genuinely gruesome scenes (I'm not kidding, some of the images are quite violent)
I only played the demo (which can be downloaded from the same page as the Hetalia game), and man the stories really range from 'I saw this lady walking her dog and holding a cute plush toy from afar so I asked if I could take a picture of it, but it turned out it wasn't a plush toy, it was a bag for dog droppings' to 'my friend and his entire family were mauled to death and it wasn't an animal that did it'.
The full game apparently has voice acting too, but this was a super-duper limited release (like it was sold in Animate stores for less than a year back in 2016) and I really liked the demo so I'm just considering getting it second-hand at this point. It's so obscure I can't find much info on the game in Japanese, much less English...
Just to show how atmospheric it felt, I have here a recording of part of the game which I can't stop replaying (sorry for no audio)
Anyway looking at the games he made really makes me wish he had the time to make one nowadays....he could probably make an amazing official Hetaoni horror game and I would pay real-life money to play it. This has been a PSA.

This is mostly gonna be from an anime perspective but I saw your posts critiquing world stars and just wanted to say:
A big thing I appreciated about early hetalia was that the narrative that came from it (whether intentional or not). Like yeah it's about Italy's role in WW2 and how he got there but then you're also getting this story about a rich kid who was always coddled and sheltered having to fend for himself in the most turbulent period of his life.
Using real world history to make interesting characters in funny scenarios.
And then it feels like recently there haven't been long arcs to develop other characters. Usually there'd be a general event like the War of Austrian Succession or Japan's Isolation to get multiple skits (scenes?? chapters?) of characters doin stuff but now it feels like there's no structure. Last time I felt there was any kind of cohesive narrative was with Czech and Slovakia.
It sucks cuz I would love an arc about the UK bros throughout history or the dynamics of east & south asian countries throughout history but instead we get one-off cultural shock strips or micronation stuff (none of these are bad just not the core of hetalia imo)
Mhm, I agree.
Coincidentally, I was talking about this a few days ago to some friends.
I believe Hetalia's formula was carried into the early anime in an immaculate way. The first season of Axis Powers was a bit repetitive because they had to make up for the fact that South Korea was cancelled almost at last minute and so many scenes had to be deleted or more or less heavily edited. But the second season of Axis Powers and especially World Series were amazing in terms of how they used those 5 minutes, Hetalia's humor is fast-paced due to it being mostly a yonkoma, and those early anime seasons captured it in a perfect way.
Even arcs like the War of Austrian Succession, despite the source not being in yonkoma format, was still mostly crafted into quick, funny scenes with a structure similar to it, hence the pacing still felt very familiar.
Beautiful World, which I believe is peak Hetalia anime (alongside some parts of World Series), started to organize the episodes in a more "tidy" structure, but it still made the very smart decision of not dragging any arc for more than two episodes and, especially in the cases where the same theme was dragged for two eps (Gakuen Hetalia, Hetalia of the Dead and Buon San Valentino), it made perfect choices:
- it used Gakuen Hetalia, which is a bit slow and verbose, as the second and third episodes, so they felt a bit like a new introduction to the most relevant characters in the new season;
- Hetalia of the Dead was used towards the end of the season, and it focuses on no character (or thematic group of characters) in particular, so it feels quite fresh and easy to enjoy and follow along.
- Buon San Valentino, which are bonus OVAs anyway, are just blatant fanservice that 99% of fans wanted to see animated, so they just couldn't go wrong with this.
Beautful World also included two serious episodes featuring France throughout the season. And one episode focusing on the Micronations. Just one. And almost at the end of the season. Great choice, great schedule.
-
Now, I do believe the pacing already started to crack a little in The World Twinkle, even though overall this season sort of kept it up decently.
The World Twinkle started to timidly show the problem that would be amplified with World Stars, both the anime and the manga.
It started the trend of multiple episodes focusing on slower paced manga arcs, this no longer being a pleasant, sporadic surprise but rather almost a rule.
It also, at least imo, seems a little unbalanced in terms of content:
EP1: Nekotalia
EP2: Focus on America, England, Germany and Italy
EP3&4: Nordics
EP5: Focus on America, England, Prussia and Germany
EP6&7: Focus on America, England, Germany and Italy
EP8: Nordics
EP9&10: Micronations
EP11: Davie (America, England)
EP12: France, Germany, England
EP13: Allies (focus on Russia), Lithuania, Hong Kong
EP14: Canada, America, England, France
Do you see what I mean..?
Not only the whole season is, for the first 9 episodes (excluding Nekotalia which was still a very weird choice as EP1), dragged to a slower pace due to the multi-episode arcs, it also chose to focus on basically the same characters for so long (reminder that 9 eps means 9 weeks).
Now compare this to how Beautiful World dealt with character appearances. I'm not making a comparison with Axis Powers or World Series because these two had like, 52 episodes each, so it isn't a fair comparison. When you have 14 episodes and focus most of them on the same handful of characters ... Tf are you doing??
There's a reason why most of Beautiful World's sources, especially for multi-episode arcs, were strips that featured a wider selection of characters. It was specifically to avoid what The World Twinkle ended up doing. I can't believe they were directed by the same people tbh, to me the quality of the overall work is quite different.
But yeah, as I said, I do believe The World Twinkle is, at least, saved by the fact that it still dragged its content from pre-World Stars comics which at least leaned less on being verbose and overly safe and educational. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Plus it gave us Davie and the 15-minutes long HetaWeen special 💕
As for the big elephant in the room, World Stars ...
Eugh. It technically does have one value over The World Twinkle, which is that at least it somewhat avoided focusing on the same 4 characters for like, 6 episodes. But still ...
Ep1 and Ep2 start off pretty alright, Ep1 especially is a stellar choice because it feels like a parallel to EP1 of Axis Powers ... Though that's pretty much how World Stars the manga starts so these kudos should go to Hima anyway 😂.
The Czechia/Slovakia episodes weren't bad at all, I agree, they felt quite cozy and a great way of introducing them in the show.
But then .... AAAAAH.
The freaking Industrial Revolution Arc. 5 consecutive damned episodes, featuring the same arc, following closely a set timeline with no time jump or anything erratic like real Hetalia style ... They freaking adapted, diligently, from Chapter 39 to Chapter 54 like a fucking homework. And the following episode?? Yes it's about Spain and Portugal, but it adapts Chapters 55~60. Lazy choices much?? 💀
It just- I don't know what the fuck they were thinking, honestly. It makes me quite mad that most of the new anime season was wasted on that. Because, as much as I'm not a big fan of the World Stars manga, they could've picked definitely better strips to animate, jump back and forward in the timeline as they pleased, just, y'know, make it Hetalia. This was such a lazy decision if you ask me💀
Damn, the rest of the World Stars anime isn't even that bad, despite HWS being HWS (so more boring on average), the lazy linearity of the contents they picked (though I shall be thankful for the SpAus interaction, I wasn't even hoping to see that animated so that was a pleasant surprise 🙏), and like, the Industrial Revolution Arc itself has some very nice moments but animating so much of it, almost 1:1, with no interruption of other stuff inbetween, felt like a crime.
I absolutely agree with the sentiment of your last statement. What HWS had been about lately, for most of it, just doesn't feel like the core of Hetalia. Sure, culture-shock strips and such have always been a thing, especially featuring Japan since, in the end, Hima's college experience in the US was one of his biggest inspirations for Hetalia, but now it mostly feels so overly tame, "educational", verbose ... A shell of what is used to be. And I'll never not believe this is more Shonen Jump's absurd doing than Hima's genuine wish.
Sorry if this got a bit long, I also probably went off topic and started rambling, I can't shut up lol/// I hope you don't mind too much 🙏💗

Looking for Roleplay Partners
About Me:
Descriptive Roleplayer. My minimum is five computer lines and I can write up to two paragraphs when really interested invested to an rp. (My Writing Samples)
I rp 1x1, and not groups. I've tried it several times, and it became hard to follow so I really don't do them.
I am Eastern Daylight Time, but different time zones are completely fine with me. The more partners the better! :)
I am looking for long term roleplay partners that I can be able to talk, plot and rp with.
I love to plan out roleplays and make tons of headcanons and such as we go!
I roleplay in third person. First and second just feels weird to me.
I rp oc x oc (original only) and oc x canon. Canon x canon really doesn't keep my interest for long so I avoid it when I can.
We can double up or do one on one. If we do the latter, I have a preference of playing my oc or being the female lead.
For all fandoms I am apart of, I have an descriptive oc at the ready for whenever I rp. The same if we roleplayed an original storyline/setting.
Some fandoms have their own storylines and plots to go with them as well!
For some roleplays, I know some people like to take the romantic route, but I'm open to any. You can do romantic, platonic, or even familial routes with any character when we roleplay.
Fandom-wise, I'm also a big fan of crossover roleplays as well. But that can be up for you to decide.
I'm always open to listening to my partner and their boundaries. So if there's something about an rp that makes you uncomfortable, we can work a ways around it to solve the problem.
I have the preference of building up to a scene instead of just jumping into it. Whether it be casual or sexual.
I don't like love triangles, but i'm open to polyamorous relationships in rps. I can play up to three partners.
Preferred Genres:
Romance
Action/Adventure
Slice of Life
Drama
Comedy
Friendship/Platonic
Big NOS:
I do not enjoy being ghosted. If you don't want to continue roleplaying, or there's something about my style you don't like, please tell me instead of just never replying again.
I will have no homophobic, transphobic or any other negative talk about anything from my partner. If that is an attitude that you are going to have, I'd rather not rp with you.
Communication is a big thing with me. So if you want to be my partner, do not just message me and start commanding me on what to do. if you have something in mind, please tell me and we can plan it out together, but bossing me around before we even start is going to make me not want to rp with you.
I will not do horror or historical based storylines.
It isn't a big no, but I'm not a big fan of triangles.
