People these days rely on books and tv shows to define what love is like or how you’d meet the one who is meant for you. There’s nothing like that in the real world. Not everyone living on earth is lucky to find true love一even a musician who writes songs and sings about love.

Everyone gets the chance to love and be loved, a foreshadowing that is expected to come across. Jisung may do like someone, but as for experience, being in a relationship is like finding a needle in a haystack. Hookups don’t work, a one-night stand is not on the list, and blind dates make no difference. He wanted it genuine like how that one famous singer sings to her exes and describes how relationships can be. 

Love is like a game with countless levels一first you have to find that person, meet that person, fall for that person, and earn their mutual perspective in return. It’s easy to fall just like the leaves in autumn but it takes time to bloom like the flowers in spring after winter. But in the blink of an eye, he may find someone who could make his world stop spinning for a while. 

Sunday night, and he still thinks about you. His delicate fingers played with the mixer causing the loud music to echo through his black headphones. The slow banging of his head synchronizing to the beat got him preoccupied. Jisung didn’t know how late it was at night as his free hand wrote the words from his mind that formed into lyrics. The tip of his pen dances on the blank paper at a fast writing pace. His handwriting was barely readable. A busy week drove him insane, and a project in mind even if he has done it before didn’t immensely help him through.

But the thought of you is still bothering him. 

A deep sigh escaped from his lips, disappointment draws the room at the end of the music. He wasn’t satisfied, the lyrics were too cringe. This is bullshit, he thought as he crumpled the paper with his messy writing, tossing it into the bin next to his keyboard. He leaned at the backrest of his chair, as it swiveled backward, hands on his face as he groaned in frustration while staring at the ceiling trying to invoke an idea一something that would wake up his soul to work, but, nothing. It was a significant requirement from the university, the sole reason why he stayed up all night in the studio he rented for another year. It was supposed to be a single song-making project for the finals. Compliance was supposed to be a fun thing to do for the sake of passing the course but it wasn’t always enthusiastic. 

He wanted it to be special. 

But his dilemma stopped when he realized how late it was. 

“Shit,” He hissed under his breath and decided to take a look at the clock. His phone’s screen lit up with 3 digits in the center, 11:48 pm. “Fuck it’s almost 12,” 

His headphones slid around his neck, taking everything to shove in the bag. He had to drag himself back to his working desk for double-checking before he left. Lights turned off, wires unplugged, Jisung closed the door behind him making sure it was locked, and later he was welcomed by the quiet and solemn highway, with few cars coming and going, streetlights stayed still with no people taking strolls, and stars illuminated the sky as his footsteps led him to the apartment which is only a block away from the studio. He saunters trying to think of something, but then again, nothing. His brain didn’t want to work, his body was fried, and it is always like that. 

Jisung reached his apartment, and even riding the elevator to the 8th floor felt exhausting as well. He tossed his bag on the couch and went to the windows. White curtains were opened as he saw the view down the building. The moon shines so brightly, enough to give reflection to his glass windows and the other lights from the neighborhood. It was aesthetically pleasing to the eyes that he always enjoys at night. His fingers ran over his bangs, stroking them back to his head as he made his way toward the balcony. A long sigh escaped his lips, a weekend shouldn’t be wasted on a boring list of things. 

He knew you are working until dawn again. The lights were off from the room next to him and it has been so quiet during nighttime. Jisung couldn’t blame you but it feels lonely not to have you next door when he’s home. 

His phone suddenly lights up for a text message he received from a friend, a club invitation. It is a Sunday night anyway. A smirk formed on his lips from top to bottom一Jisung made a beeline toward his bedroom and changed clothes. An invitation from a friend to drink shouldn’t be ignored just like that, and being drunk on a weekend is like a necessary afterparty of a long-ass night. He left his apartment again, the club is far away from home. 

The timing is great. He wanted to see you again. 

It was all black, yellow, and white lights, time on the box, and cold air. The smooth rolling of tires on the asphalt and music from the radio made the stillness of his car a bit dramatic. The blinding lights welcomed him, a variety of colors dancing with the people around. Loud music and the scent of cigarettes and vape mixed with intoxicating alcohol, he was amused. It wasn’t his first time visiting a place like this, thanks to Hyunjin who is a party animal, he gets dragged every time, and also because of the gig with the band. He didn’t even care about the time and maybe going home at 5 in the morning would still feel like evening. 

Songs with intense structures were played suddenly as he stood a few steps away from the entrance. His bandmates, slash, best pals, Hyunjin, and Minho were behind him, sipping their drinks or screaming at the top of their lungs with the others. Jisung’s eyes immediately looked to the counter to taste interesting drinks. He smiled at his two friends before walking himself through the wild crowd and managed to keep his eardrums safe from the loudspeakers below the stage. 

A sigh of relief escaped his lips and was later formed into a smile of triumph but what can he say about his thoughts about love when his time suddenly stopped and everything had gone in slow motion the moment he saw you from the counter, smiling at Chan? Someone could serve him his words on a platter and Jisung would have it as his breakfast. His heart suddenly started beating faster than the normal pace. Was it love at first sight? No, he had seen you before around campus, many times and you kissed. It was different from last night. A miserable damsel in distress to the bright sunshine in front of him. 

Jisung stopped in his tracks and his heart went insane when you finally had eye contact with him after diverting your gaze from your dear co-worker. “You know my name?” You asked, handing him the small glass. 

“Of course,” He nodded. “You’re in my music class and we’re just living right next to each other’s door. I’m Jisung by the way,” He added, handing out his hand for a shake. 

“I know,” You said, taking his hand. It would be a lie that his heart melted the moment he was able to touch your hand一there was a spark to him. “Nice meeting you, I guess, we don’t interact,” You added.

“Well, I guess we need to socialize more,” He smiled. “But I have to check on the guys first, I’ll be back in a sec,” He added and immediately dashed through the crowd leaving you dumbfounded. You just prevented embarrassing yourself for the second time! It was hard to keep it to yourself. 

“Way to go,” You said as you saw Chan smirking at you, making his way to receive orders. 

“Damn,” Jisung sighs. 

“What’s up with you?” Minho asked, noticing his friend’s dilemma. Hyunjin was quick enough to involve himself in the gossip and scooted closer to the couch. 

“Did you embarrass yourself?” Hyunjin asked. 

“No!” Jisung retorted. “That girl from the bar一” 

“We know,” Minho said, rolling his eyes. “You made out with her last night,” 

“You wanted to hook up now?” Hyunjin teased, drinking his lime juice when Jisung smacked his head, causing him to blow the drink off of his mouth. “What the fuck?!” 

“A crush, maybe?” Minho smirked. 

“Dude, what am I? A high school teenager?” Jisung scoffed, denying the giddiness. 

“Ask her out! Fuck you,” Hyunjin retorted, wiping his lips. 

“Too scared,” Jisung said, rolling his eyes. 

“How about a bet?” Minho said, wiggling his brows with a sly smirk plastered on his face. 

“Sounds dangerous,” Hyunjin butted in. 

“Pssh,” Minho hissed. “Come on man, it’s your chance to hook up.” 

“Shut up, Lee,” Hyunjin hissed as Minho glared at him. 

“I’m still contemplating,” Jisung sighed. 

“Dude, you kissed her,” Minho pointed out as Jisung looked at him. “Go.” 

Jisung took a deep breath while looking into Minho’s eyes. Hyunjin went to mind his drink as he heard the younger one sigh in response. It only took one push to build his confidence. 

“Fine,” He said, placing the drink on the table and disappearing into the crowd. Meanwhile, you sat on a stool high chair watching everyone have the time of their lives. The counter was already busy as you and Chan were taking turns. Jisung came back in a blink of an eye as he took the seat across from you as you made his drink. “Y/n,” 

Here he is again. You thought. 

“Hey,” You smiled, leaning on the counter.

“I shouldn’t be going around asking this but, do you want to go out with me?” He said, smirking at the idea which made you scoff in response.

“No,” You told him. “And that one martini is 12,000 won,” You said, rolling your eyes, leaving his drink served in front of his face before moving away. Jisung clicked his tongue and looked at Hyunjin and Minho who were watching you leave. Way to go wasting a free drink, Jisung! 

“She’s not into you,” Minho chuckled, approaching his dear friend and wrapping his arm around Jisung’s neck. 

“Try harder dude,” Hyunjin said, taking the drink away from Jisung’s hand before taking a sip. 

“She’ll say yes eventually,” Jisung said, looking at you serving a table a few meters away. You caught him staring again and rolled your eyes in response. 

“Just make sure she will,” Minho winked. 

“She will. And Hyunjin, that’s my drink,” Jisung hissed at the tall boy when he realized his Martini was stolen.

“What? I’ll pay for it,” Hyunjin defended.

“Y/n! Can you take out the trash please?” The senior barista said, earning their attention, Hyunjin nudged Jisung as Minho kept watching your move. After going back to serving a few customers their drinks, you headed back to the staff’s room to execute the request. Jisung immediately got the message and went straight to the back door, surprising you the moment you threw the trash into the bins. 

“Hey,” He said. 

“Whatever it is, I’m not interested,” You said, trying to get back inside. 

“Y/n, just hear me once, okay? I like you,” He said, blocking your way in. A sigh escaped your lips, crossing your arms on your chest while watching him. 

“What?” You asked. 

“I’m sure you heard me,” He said. “I’m asking you out,” 

“Jisung, I,” You sighed. “Look, a single sip from a Martini won’t make you drunk enough to come up to me and just confess right away. And I can’t go out with you especially when I don’t have feelings for you,” You said, making him frown. 

“But we kissed,” He pursued, which made you so red. 

“That doesn’t count,” You defended. “It was a mistake and I was so drunk,” 

“I don’t care about that Y/n,” He said. “Just give me a month,” He added as you stared at him for a few seconds. 

“No,” You retorted, pushing him out of the way and going back to the bar. Jisung sighed harshly and ruffled his hair, it’s going to be a long way to make you say yes. 

He followed you back inside and grabbed a drink, joining Hyunjin and Minho at their table, already tipsy. Jisung sat down, crossing his legs and an arm extended on the backrest of their couch. The drink is filled with ice, but the stare you gave him was burning with disgust. He could only shrug and give you a sly smile because you know he will never let you go that easy. Minho and Hyunjin exchanged looks一the older boy suddenly shoved tissues in Hyunjin’s mouth out of nowhere. It was so random that Jisung failed to notice. 

Your rounds kept going, with endless orders and requests, the music was too loud and out of your taste. If it wasn’t for your uncle’s request to make you work in such a place, you wouldn’t be staying up all night during the weekends. But you can’t deny that the pay is good enough to spend on your needs and wants, especially when he gives you special treatment because you are indeed his niece. You want to make him proud for taking you in, and you tried to stay out of trouble each night of your shift, but sometimes, something happens eventually. Like the boy who can’t stop watching you. 

Han Jisung. 

You’ve known him since freshman year but you rarely talk because of his different circle of friends. You craned your neck to check, only to find out Jisung was already drowsy and useless like the other two. Too much of a single drink, eh? You shake your head and go back to Chan. 

 “You need to drive them home,” You told him. 

“I know,” He sighed. “Are you coming?” 

“Yeah,” You replied. “I need to get that idiot home,” You added, pointing at Jisung.

“Right, I’ll finish these up then we’ll go,” Chan giggled. “Those punks are useless right now,” Giving Chan a small smile, you finished cleaning the table and went to the staff’s room to change, leaving the old boy to figure out what to do with his friends. Poor Chan had to assist Minho first while you took care of Hyunjin, heading to Jisung’s car. They were piled up on the backseat and saved the best for the owner. He was still conscious when you and Chan dragged him away. Gibberish lyrics came out of his mouth, singing a familiar song—loud and out of tune. He smells exactly what he consumed. 

“Stupid,” Chan laughed. 

Morning arrived and you heard a knock on your door after passing out on the couch the moment you were done with everyone. You didn’t even notice Chan leaving at 6 am as you were both exhausted一the guys were heavy for 2 people to assist and a loud one to deal with. You never felt so tired ever since you started your job, maybe it was the first time you saw the club so packed and a lot of customers wanted to be served first. It felt like you’d been flying from left to right. 

Dragging yourself up at 10 am is already tiring. You are already considering quitting having the lack of sleep on the weekends, even the school does the same to you—nothing spares such a busy person. Grabbing the doorknob, you inspected the person through the small hole in your door. It was Jisung who looked like he was just woken up. A sigh escaped your lips and opened it. Fixing yourself didn’t matter anymore, anyway. You stared at him for a while, disheveled hair, crumpled clothes, bloodshot eyes, and wearing socks without shoes—this boy is a mess. 

“Good morning?” You greeted him as he started fidgeting his fingers. 

“Ah, yes good morning,” He said, still having that alcohol scent. 

“What do you want?” You asked with a stern look, asking him to hurry. 

“I wanted to say thank you to you and Chan hyung,” He said. “This is about what happened a few hours ago, I still have a headache right now but, I need to see you first,” He smiled. 

 “Okay?” You said. 

“Yeah,” He answered, rubbing his nape. “Y/n, I’m sorry about last night, but, I also wanted to say that I’m persistent when it comes to the things that I like.” He said. “And by that, what I mean is, I won’t give up until you say yes,” 

“Jisung, you heard me last night and my answer is No,” You said. “There are a lot of people out there, think about it, okay? And take a rest,” You smiled. 

“Y/n, I like you! I swear.” He said.

“Have a nice day, Han.” You responded and closed the door in his face, leaving the poor boy dumbfounded. 

Jisung sighed and started to space out, his body is not even healed yet from too much consumption of alcohol. He started at nothing for a while before he could get back to reality and scratched his head, moving back to his apartment. His two attempts to get you to say yes, failed. But just like what you observed about him, he is not the type to give up on something he wants so easily. And things will turn into something more interesting than ‘just talking’. 

The night fell, and another shift will come to occur. School is not the only one fucking you up. Chan welcomed you with a big smile on his face. The club usually opens at 8 pm on the weekdays but starting on Friday nights to Sunday go to by 9 instead. He was busy setting up the chairs and mopping the floor while you checked on the menu. Other employees started to gather as well and the bouncers prepared for the opening. Scenarios of the club are always the same, the customers may be different people each night, yet it is always the loud music and screams of people. Swearing, drinking, kissing, and laughing, they go all over the place. People are becoming wilder every minute—it doesn’t surprise you anymore. 

But surprisingly, Jisung showed up in the same place where you got him a drink. 

“You’re still up for another hangover?” You asked, leaning against the counter. “What can I get you?” 

Jisung just chuckled and shook his head, “I’m not drinking tonight,” 

“Are you sure? What are you doing here then?” 

“I’ll wait for you until your shift is done,” He said, making you look confused. “I’ll be less trouble tonight Y/n, I promise, just let me stay here,” 

“You’re up to something, are you?” You said. 

“If your answer is still No, I’m not going to stop just like that,” He smirked. 

“Suit yourself, Han,” You scoffed and went to make a drink. Jisung just smiled at the end, maybe this bet will make him get closer to you after all. He watched the area filled with the intoxicating scent of alcohol and cigarettes—he wasn’t amused, nor his type. But the fact that you are working here, staying is worth it. He was immersed in everything even with the blinding lights and the singer up on stage, it was an interesting love song to sing in a club. “Sparkling Cucumber Mint Lemonade,” 

“I didn’t order anything,” Jisung said, snapping back in your direction. 

“It’s on me this time, I won’t charge you like last night,” You smiled, hugging the tray. “Don’t worry it’s not alcoholic,” 

“Thanks,” He said, taking a good sip of a free drink. “This is good,” 

“I know right? Enjoy your stay, I need to get to work,” You said. “Are you sure you will wait for me?” 

“Yeah, my band is on break and there’s no work for me to be done so don’t mind me,” He smiled, taking another sip of it. 

“Okay,” 

The night flew by, customers slowly faded through the door leaving all their energy at the place, Jisung fell asleep on the counter as Chan kept an eye on him. You just got out of the staff’s room after changing clothes and are now being left with a sleeping Han Jisung. Chan smiled at you, motioning to take care of him while he closed the club—Jisung had already passed out and you were anxious to wake him up. 

“Just try to shake him gently,” Chan said, and so you did. 

“Han?” You called. 

“Hmm?” He hummed in response, sitting up as he rubbed his eyes. “What time is it?” 

“4 am,” You answered as he sighed heavily. 

“Do you want me to drive you home? It’s so late,” Jisung said, looking at you. “Let me take you and Chan hyung,” 

“No, no, don’t worry about me, I have my motorbike outside,” Chan said. “Just take Y/n home, I’ll leave in a bit,” 

“Okay, be careful on your way, yeah?” You told him. 

“Yep, and you too,” 

Jisung walked out of the club first as you followed him, hands shoved into his pockets while you tightened your grip on the straps of your bag. You can’t deny saying it is kind of sweet to have him waiting for you all night but the thought of pursuing you for a bit doesn’t sit right with you. It’s rare to have someone waiting for you for hours, Chan is an exception for he is a good friend of yours—but nothing like Jisung. You feel bad about it. 

He opened the door for you to enter and you bowed lightly with a small Thank you before getting in. You watched him close the door and jogged his way around the car to settle on the driver’s seat, driving away in silence. 

“Care to tell me what’s this all about?” You asked him. 

“As I said I’m not giving up that easily until I get you to say Yes,” He said, eyes focused on the road. 

“I know,” You scoffed and had the atmosphere go quiet for a while. You were still in deep thought about what happened between you and Jisung the other night and never had the chance to apologize properly for it. Seungmin already gave the details for he had witnessed everything. 

And that’s when you remembered,

The music was loud and Seungmin just sat there at your table, watching you get wasted. Mist wasn’t the one singing on the stage that night. Hyunjin and Minho went home, Chan went to help at the counter and Jeongin rested beside Seungmin. Felix and Changbin weren't there. You were chugging the Bacardi at a fast pace while enjoying the music, shouting the lyrics of the band’s cover of Day 1. Jisung decided to get a drink at the counter and planned to stand by for a few minutes before going home but Chan gossiped about Seungmin’s presence with you. He had to disregard Seungmin and Jeongin, talking on the couch as his attention was directed to you, he was amused. 

Acknowledging that his glass was already empty and he placed it back on the top of the marbled counter as his feet dragged him to you. Hyunjin didn’t mind the crowd of people getting in his way, the loud music was banging his ears and the flash of lights was a pain. 

“You’ll always be my day one~ Day zero when I was no one~” 

You got dizzy after a few glasses of that horrid drink and mindlessly took your phone out from your bag and typed Hanbin’s number. A group of numbers that you will always remember even if you get drunk. Your phone pressed your ear, waiting for him to pick up, Seungmin was already alerted to your actions but he wasn’t aware of who it was. Jeongin suddenly fell asleep after the exhaustion from partying and shared a few words with the older boy but still ended up passing out. Seungmin raised a brow as he sat steadily on his seat, halting himself from drinking another glass. 

“Hello?” Asked the one on the phone. You could barely hear it and decided to put it on loudspeaker. 

“Ya, are you crazy?” You exclaimed. “How dare you cheat on me with that cheapass ugly bitch?” Seungmin sat there frozen. “Am I not enough? Am I not enough to give you everyー”

“Y/n stop that!” Seungmin said. 

“Shut up, asshole,” You said, unconscious of the words coming out of your mouth. “Take me back!” You cried. Hanbin fell in silence as he listened to your sobs in between the loud music. 

“Y/n! I swear,” Seungmin said standing up from his seat as he placed his glass on the table loud enough for Hanbin to pass the phone to his new one. 

“Why did you cheat on me? We can work things out, Hanbin!” You said, not paying attention to your best friend who is now fucking frustrated. Jisung suddenly snatched your phone away, making you so mad, and yelled at him. He looked at the caller ID and smirked, passing it to Seungmin. “What the fuck are you doing?” 

“Piss off!” You heard Seungmin answer the phone. 

“Give it back!” You exclaimed as Jisung grabbed your arm, pulling you towards him. 

“Stop it, Y/n, you’re drunk,” He said. 

“Who the fuck are you?! Let me go!” You yelled at him but instead of calming you down, his lips suddenly landed on yours. 

Seungmin almost dropped your phone after he ended the call when he saw how smooth Jisung was. It made you stop babbling nonsense and finally melted into the kiss. He tasted the shitty drink inside your mouth but it didn’t stop him. His arm wrapped around your waist with your hands around his neck. Maybe you deserve it after the heartbreak though. You couldn’t identify what kind of drink painted his lips so sweetly as it collided with yours. His lips were soft as he kisses you gently. Seungmin’s jaw dropped and only a click away to inform your mother who’s living in the countryside. It wasn’t a chaste kiss but rather wild when you felt his tongue enter your mouth. You licked his tongue slowly sucking it before molding your lips with his, then suddenly, everything disappeared from that moment. It wasn’t the first time you ever kissed someone but Jisung’s lips felt different. 

Your knees felt weak when he pulled you closer and deepened the kiss. His hand reached for your cheek, with a hint of nibbling at biting your lips. He may have gone excessively when he heard you whine under him which made him more eager. It wasn’t part of the plan to kiss you just to stop you from begging Hanbin and saying nonsense but it is the best way, for him, at least. The kiss got so overwhelming that Jisung felt your hands coming off his neck and suddenly passed out. Good thing you were inside his arms that he caught you right away. Seungmin almost died from shock but he didn’t help you either way. A smirk formed on Jisung’s lips as he carried you in bridal style. 

“You should go,” He said. 

“We will. Take care of Jeongin, he’s knocked out,” Seungmin answered. “Give me Y/n,” 

He kissed you. Yes, he is persistent and faithful when it comes to the things he likes. He already gave proof of that. A sigh escaped from your lips and at the same time, you felt the redness of your cheeks. It was so hot that you started to fan yourself with your hand. You didn’t know why it suddenly felt better after suffering from that stupid breakup. It’s been three months now and you were so stupid to do such a thing. 

And because of thinking too much, you didn’t even realize that you and Jisung were already in the parking lot of your apartment building. 

“Y/n, we’re here—,”

“Damn, it was you?” You asked in disbelief. “You kissed me!” 

“I did, so what?” Jisung laughed. “You want another one?” It was good if you are being honest with yourself.

“No!” You exclaimed as Jisung ran his fingers through his hair. 

“Fine,” He scoffed. “But you’re going to give in if I do it either way,” 

“You’re so full of yourself, Han,” You retorted. 

“It’s me we’re talking about,” He said, cutting you off. “I’m not going to apologize for that. And I think you’re more worried about me than your ex huh?” He smirked. 

“It was embarrassing and he was a douchebag, I care about my reputation more. And I’m sorry for acting stupid,” You sighed as you heard him laugh. “What’s funny?” 

“Nothing, I am not expecting an apology from you Y/n, I thought you can do more than that,” He said. 

“What do you mean?” You asked, confused. 

“I already told you a few times that I like you and I admit I was disappointed that you had to fall and hit your head,” He scoffed. “Do I have to repeat it myself? I like you, and that fucking kiss wasn’t enough for me,”

“I think you’re speaking bullshit right now,” You said but before you could say anything further, you felt his lips crash onto yours. He said he’ll be less trouble tonight, but why are you wrapping your arms around his neck to respond to his kiss? Jisung is amazing but at the same time a jerk who kisses a person without permission. But on second thought, maybe you deserve to experience that once or maybe more than once. 

His lips collided with yours, and both your eyes were closed, tasting the mint gum you had earlier and the hint of the Sparkling Cucumber Mint Lemonade you gave him. You felt his hand wrapped around your waist to pull you closer to him as his other hand rested on your nape. The kiss was softer this time, as your heart started to go crazy and suddenly made you feel weak in the knees. His lips were warm and soft as ever as he kissed you gently. You could feel his tongue pressed between your parted lips giving that soft ticklish licks but you had to snap out of it. 

You pushed Jisung back to his seat as he licked his lips in annoyance, as to why. He ran his fingers through his hair and avoided your gaze as you stared at nowhere, unable to speak. You didn’t even say good night and left his car, leaving Jisung frustrated. 

“Goddammit,” He hissed. 

Jisung didn’t show up the next night but you find yourself, hoping for him to appear in front of you. It has been two days of pursuing you but it feels empty without him around. Chan noticed the energy you have but didn’t bother to spill it when you are busy with work. The night flew by in a blink of an eye either, a lot of customers were satisfied and made you distracted all night. You admit it was tiring that there were no energy boosters for you, Jisung isn’t even around. And you know exactly the reason why. 

He kissed you, again. 

You hate the fact that even if your reason was because of that break-up you had with Hanbin three months ago, you can’t blame the situation for being this stupid again. Jisung is persistent, you know that but opening up again made you hesitant. You’ve got nothing to offer in exchange for his feelings for you and Seungmin is nowhere to be found when you need advice. Meanwhile, you found yourself sitting across the counter instead of serving tables, other waiters were up for it, except you who just wanted to rest and listen to that dreadful love song the singer was singing. Chan also took a break from handling the cashier and sat beside you, enduring the exhaustion of work on the weekends. 

“We might need a new singer,” He said. “I heard he’s quitting tonight. Do you know someone?” 

“I don’t,” You answered.

“Sort of, but you’re a music major right? Maybe one of your classmates wanted a job or something, it’s just for the weekends anyway,” Chan shrugged. 

“I’ll try to get someone that suits this type of vibe,” You reassured. “But don’t expect that someone will show up in a week, did you tell Uncle?” 

“Yeah, he knows,” Chan said. 

“Then I’ll start looking then,” You chuckled at him and went back to watching the singer’s last performance on the club’s stage. 

And just like the other nights, Tuesday night passed by quickly and Wednesday morning came. The bright sunlight didn’t allow you to sleep on such a lovely morning—having not enough rest made you feel like a zombie during the whole day. Your classes will resume in the afternoon and you barely have time to rest. A sigh escaped your lips as you wore your shoes, indicating the moment of leaving your apartment. Jisung’s room was unusually quiet, with no instruments playing in the background nor hearing him singing his self-composed songs.

You never cared about it anyway. 

Shrugging at the thought of it, you head to a cafe to have brunch with Seungmin. The boy was too focused on his laptop the moment you arrived and didn’t even notice your presence. Taking your usual order, you went back to his table and sat down across from him. His eyes were tired, his soul was exhausted, a coffee on his side and a half-eaten sandwich with it. He is a representation of the usual college student you see on campus during their hell week. But that also represents you. 

“Good morning Y/n,” He said, still not taking his eyes from his laptop. 

“Good morning, Seungmin,” You smiled. “Mind if I eat?” 

“Not at all,” He replied. “I still need to finish my food as well,” He chuckled. 

“How long have you been waiting?” You asked, munching on your favorite sandwich. 

“Oh, I got here an hour early, I thought writing an essay in a café would help me finish it in no time,” He said, taking a sip of his iced americano. Seungmin drinks it like water. “Are you done with the homework?” 

“Do you have to ask me that when I’m in my miserable state right now?” You asked. 

“Well, I’m just really attentive so that you won’t miss anything.” He said. “Besides, we’re graduating this year,” 

“I know,” You scoffed. 

“How are things with you?” He asked, finally having his full attention to you. 

“You know I was in distress these past few days because of what happened between me and Jisung,” You started. “And now he’s asking me out,” You added, looking at your coffee. 

“I’m not surprised, he did mention he likes you,” He said so bluntly, making you look at him. 

“So you knew?” You asked, making Seungmin shrug his shoulders. 

“You’re probably the last person to know, Y/n,” He smirked. “Me and the rest of our friend group know. But I understand that you’re not really up for it since you and Jisung are not close enough to share intimate secrets with,” He chuckled. 

“I hate you,” You scolded him. 

“You don’t,” Seungmin replied, sipping his coffee. 

“Damn,” You sighed in response as he watched you with a blunt expression written on his face. 

“Anything else you want to tell me? Concerns?” He asked, munching his sandwich as you took a deep breath, making a sarcastic smile at him. 

“Well, aside from Jisung, I have to ask you something,” You said. 

“Spill,” He said, still munching that sandwich. 

“Do you, perhaps, want to work at my Uncle’s club? The local singer resigned last night and we need a replacement to perform this weekend,” You said, making Seungmin stop eating.

“You want me?” He asked, closing his laptop while pointing at himself. “Y/n, I don’t think the vibe suits me, I’m more of a ballad type of person, you know?” He chuckled. 

“But you’re a very good singer,” You whined. 

“Thanks, but I don’t think I can,” He said politely. “Why don’t you ask Jisung, he loves trying different genres, I heard he’s into rock now.” Only a sigh escaped your lips as you took a bite of your food. “It’ll be a good advantage since he has a band, you know Mist right?”

“Yeah,” You said, pouting your lips. “But it’s kind of awkward between us right now,” You said. 

“Because he likes you?” He asked as you gave him a nod. “Why don’t you give him a chance?” 

“Let me think about it first,” You sighed. 

Thinking about it led to a few hours later until you found yourself spacing out in a lecture. A hand supported your chin as your elbow rested on your desk—words from your professor just come in and out through your ears, nothing interesting to focus on. You shouldn’t be worrying too much when you have Chan who can fill up the position of the club’s singer. That man can make everyone swoon over him by singing one single line. But he is not up for it when you already asked a few times. 

You didn’t notice the time passing by, it was only your professor who discussed things all over again. Things that you already know from the first year to your senior year. Seungmin took notes beside you and the rest were either spacing out or listening. But this class would end up making everyone whine about some project the professor just announced. Seungmin coughed in between distracting you from your train of thought. You hated working in pairs yet it was necessary to grab someone to lessen the burden. Seungmin disappeared from his seat and went to Jeongin. Your best friend ditched you, just like that. 

“Nice, you don’t want to work with me?” You asked him when he just laughed in response, but you just rolled your eyes.

“I already planned to have Jeongin work with me,” He said. “You can ask Felix,” A sigh escaped your lips while rolling your eyes. The class ended a few minutes ago and only a few classmates of yours were left inside the classroom. You turned to Felix who was reading his notes before standing up and grabbing the opportunity to approach him. 

“Hey, Felix, do you have a partner?” You asked as he smiled at you, rubbing his nape. 

“Yeah, Changbin hyung was the first one to ask,” He said. “I’m sorry Y/n,” He added with that cute sheepish smile of his. 

“It’s alright, there must be someone free,” You smiled at him. 

 “Ah, yes, Jisung doesn’t have a partner yet,” He said, making your smile drop, giving him a nod. 

“Thanks,” You said and turned away seeing Jisung craning his neck, giving you his creepy smile (in a playful way) while wiggling his brows.  “I guess you’re the option left?” 

“That hurts,” He chuckled, standing up from his seat. “At least I get you to say yes on this one,” 

“As if I had a choice,” You retorted. “When are we going to do this damn project?” 

“Tonight, you know where my studio is right?” He asked as you nodded in response. “Good, I’ll meet you there at 7, sounds good to you?” 

“Not a problem, Han,” You smiled. 

“Great,” He smiled back. 

Why is he acting as if nothing happened?

7 pm and you found yourself in the hallway of a building where Jisung’s studio was located. You looked at your phone’s screen to confirm the right address and saw the same number on a door. A few knocks were heard as Jisung put his mixtape on pause before jogging towards the entrance, unlocking it, and seeing you. 

“I hope I’m not interrupting something?” You asked. 

“Not at all, come in,” He said, opening the door wider as he stepped aside. 

His studio is big enough for 5 people to fit in which probably explains why the rent is expensive. It was painted in black and white, different instruments were being displayed, and some were misplaced. Bass guitars and ordinary guitars, a mixer, and a synthesizer, a shelf of albums and stationeries being stacked on his desk, it was kind of messy. But he chose a good location where there’s a large window that you could see the whole city from. The room just needs a bit of cleaning. 

“It’s kind of messy, I’m sorry,” He chuckled sheepishly. “You can sit on the couch first, I still need to polish something,” 

“Sure,” You smiled. 

“Did you have dinner?” He asked, taking his seat in front of his computer. 

“Not yet, I just got out of the library before coming here,” You shrugged. 

“Okay, we’ll just finish half of the project tonight and we’ll get dinner,” He paused. “If that’s okay with you?” 

“Yeah, go ahead with your work, I can wait,” You said, taking a seat on the couch as he sighed in relief. Jisung went to work after that, leaving you looking around his studio. It was spacious as his mess was scattered around that you accidentally sat down on one of his cd players. There were earphones connected to it that made you sneak up to listen. You took a glance at him and saw his back facing you—taking the opportunity of it, you plugged the earphones on and played a song, not knowing it was all his. 

The first song was rock, you heard Seungmin’s voice in the first part and was followed by his other friends. A summer-like vibe but in a rock genre. The lyrics were also good, even the rhythms and beat were fun to listen to. Notes were pretty high to sing but they ended things clear and clean. So much for having good singers in a group of friends. You wonder how Jisung made this beautiful art. Even the next song is ethereal, a love song solo of his, he can be cheesy at times. You started vibing with it as he was pretty occupied with his work. And that makes you wonder if Jisung can sing for the club this weekend. 

You stopped listening and turned off the music without making the second song halfway finished and fell into deep thoughts. His voice is too good to ignore and his talent is superior. It’s rare to have someone listen to his songs unless it’s one of his guy friends. But you wanted his songs so bad, they were too good. 

“Y/n, I’m done, shall we start?” Jisung asked as he spun his swivel chair around. 

“Jisung,” You called. 

“Yeah?” He asked back. 

“Do you want to sing in the club? I mean, we don’t have a performer anymore so, if you want—”

“I don’t usually work with clubs unless I can perform as a guest,” He said cutting you off. “But if 5-STAR insists on hiring Mist, you should offer me something in return,” He smirked. 

“Fine,” You scoffed. “Let’s go out,” 

Jisung was caught off guard that he almost fell from his seat. It was a bold move of you but he likes it. You noticed how he tried to keep his cool but at the same time, you were nervous about the words that might come out as a response. 

“How much are they going to pay Mist?” He asked with his chin resting at the back of his palm. You knew the deal was on. 

“Pretty decent depends on how good—” 

“We’re good, babe,” He smirked. “And I am way better than the word, good,”

Another weekend came and Jisung locked himself inside his room as you waited for him outside. Leaning beside the door frame, you were getting impatient with his wardrobe dilemma for his first night. Your Uncle has been told about him by Chan, the boy got too excited and nervous at the same time. Performing in front of people tonight was not the first time, but since there was money at the end of it, he didn’t want to disappoint. You, on the other hand, had to comfort his nervous ass for he has been picking up something decent to wear. 

“Han, are you almost done? You only have to perform 3 songs, that’s it,” You whined outside. 

“One moment, I’m still undecided about the top,” He said, making you sigh in frustration. You were getting late. “Should I go with a T-shirt or a tank top?” 

“Tank tops would look great,” You said, sighing at the time. 

“Thanks, be right there in a sec,” Seconds turned into minutes until he came out after almost half an hour. You gave up waiting for him by the door and went to lie on the couch. “I’m done! What do you think?” You heard him say as you sat down and examined his look. 

Slicked back brown hair, a black tank top, skinny jeans, and a pair of boot shoes, everything in black. You gulped at the sight of him. He’s never been so handsome in your eyes, his fashion sense is superior to the fact that he looks like a rockstar tonight, only a bass guitar is something that he’s missing. He noticed your dumbfounded expression—one thing that boosted his confidence to perform. A smirk formed on his lips as he snapped his fingers in front of your face to bring you back to reality. 

“I’m too handsome, yes I know, no need to tell me,” He said fixing his hair and winked. 

“You wish,” You scoffed. 

“Oh come on, I’m hot, and you know it, right?” He teased as you exited his apartment. “Hey hey! Wait up!” Jisung laughed, grabbing his jacket. You can't help but laugh at his cuteness when he was catching up. Chan prepared the stage for Jisung the moment you arrived, the latter followed you to the staff’s room to rehearse for a short while. You noticed how nervous he was that you had to hold his hand to ease him down. Jisung smiled at you as he intertwined his fingers with yours. His hands were cold and shaky—one that made you worry and patted his back. 

“You will do good, alright?” You said as he nodded desperately. 

“Can you give me a hug before I go?” He asked until a pair of arms wrapped around his neck and pulled you closer. “Thank you,” 

He walked up to the stage introducing himself and how he got the job as a replacement. It made you embarrassed when he dedicated the song to you and everyone was cheering for your so-called relationship. Chan laughed, he looked so happy that Jisung was finally up there and enjoying the night while you stood beside him, mouth open wide. You knew Jisung sings well and you saw him sing in front of the class a few times, but not this type of vibe, not with instruments and background music. Seungmin and the rest of his friends witnessed how badass he is when it comes to music, but none of those shows met your eyes. 

He started to pull off the stage by singing Meddle About by Chase Atlantic. His lips moved as if he were making out with the microphone, and his fingers played with the strings as his voice resounded throughout the crowded room. Minho and Hyunjin supported him with the music and started banging the night. He was holding the mic with both of his hands as he sang his heart out. The veins on his neck become visible as he sings. It made him more natural and attractive. He jammed with the instrumentals in between the chorus and mouthed the adlib while he stared in your direction. His fingers strummed the electric guitar and a hint of crimson red showed up on your cheeks as you felt the heat coming with it. The loud beating of your heart and the adrenaline rush made you feel dizzy. You never saw this side of Jisung before, though you weren’t that close for the past few years, he is one fucking ace. And Chan is very proud now and then. 

The audience was too focused on the handsome young man performing on stage. The second song was his song, the one you heard on his cd player (Mixtape: Time Out), a rock summer vibe—a fresh song that comes with rap and drums; his vocals are too good to handle both singing and rapping. Everyone was cheering for him, the audience was jumping as they vibe with the song. He was also good at hyping them up and pointing to anyone who matches his energy. Yet his eyes would seek yours, it was something he is happy and thankful about. His heart never felt so giddy and fortunate when you are the reason why he is enjoying his time at the moment. 

Jisung kept running and walking around the small stage, sweat dripping from his forehead that made his brown locks soaked. His slicked-back hair becomes messy but he is still gorgeous. Chan noticed how you looked at him and nudged your arm, motioning his lips as if he was teasing you. Even Felix and Changbin were there, dancing like a married couple in front of the stage. And it lasted until his third and last song for the night. You listened closely and watched him as he sat down to sing a soothing melody after the hardcore ones. The sudden change of genre made you feel like falling in love. You love music all your life and you meet a lot of people who share the same interests as you but not like Jisung who took everything in one night. His friends and even Chan love to do the same as him but you see him differently. 

It is the way how calm he was—the spotlight was on him that made his visuals more appealing. The sweat ran down from his forehead to his ripped arms when he took off his jacket, his eyes filled with sincerity, and his voice blended with song. You couldn’t understand why your heart is acting up like you are about to fall for him. And it will get worse in the next few weeks as you expected. supernatural s1e1 pilot (w. eric kripke)

(this is a rewatch, so spoilers abound)

because my brain is jacked up, i'm weirdly anxious about rewatching the show even though that's been The Plan for months. i watched 15x20 a week (plus) ago and every time i think about starting over at the pilot and writing them up proper like i did around s4-5 onward, my chest kind of clenches up and i look for literally anything else to do. i am worried about having feelings that i'm not prepared to deal with. which is fucking ridiculous.

i've mentioned before that babies in peril is my number 1 hard stop on media -- i stopped watching killing eve mid-episode because of one and never went back to it (i intended to but never happened, brain weasels make everything hard.) so i know the very first time i tried to watch spn (several years ago) i almost turned it off because of little baby sam. that first attempt at watching i wasn't actually fully paying attention, i had it on while i was doing other things and so i missed all the character stuff and only saw it as kind of a mid horror schlocky situation so i never finished the first season back then. when i gave it another go in early 2023, i was giving it my full attention.

one thing this show always got? the cutest, happiest, sweetest babies. 10/10 would recommend

hey, it's the first instance of the demon growl noise when mary's burning on the ceiling! ooh i'm gonna be even more insufferable about the musical score and sound effects now that i'm listening for it from the jump

also i have called padalecki's accent/speech pattern the crispy r based on some tiktok i heard describing it that way - i associate it with california (but these clips are almost the opposite where the R is getting almost eliminated but not in the boston accent way), and i'd say maybe it was a choice but i think he spoke this way in gilmore girls too? but anyway, his Rs are just very different and it's a very particular and kind of subtle accent that definitely doesn't carry through the entire series ("bear it" in the second clip, the "sorry" in the third). i mentioned it when they had a clip of a moment from 1x10 as well in the pre-ep recap for 5x09

so this picture made it out of the lawrence fire (it was on mary's nightstand) but not the stanford one? i don't recall it being in the collection

i never really understood where sam was supposed to be timeline-wise in college, other than he must not have graduated because it was october? so there's me googling when you take the LSAT. so he could have (assuming it hasn't changed that much since 2005) taken it in june or october of the calendar year before he graduated. all right so that makes sense now that i think about it for more than 30 seconds. so he didn't finish his last year really of his bachelor's. and he's 22. i think in that alex irvine john winchester diary novel thing (don't think that that's considered canon but that's a whole other can of worms), it said sam graduated high school at 19 instead of 18 so i think that would make things line up (someone made a timeline that also includes everything in that novel but the post is loudly wncest dni so i won't link it). i do know it was just a mistake that the pilot said sam had been gone 2 years.

one thing i'm thinking about is how i definitely was under the impression that they really didn't know any other hunters until they start getting mentioned here and there (dropping bits of backstory about working jobs with xyz while sam was at school etc), and that they barely knew anything about demons. so i'm curious to see how much of that is me misremembering

SAM You think Mom would have wanted this for us? The weapon training, and melting the silver into bullets? Man, Dean, we were raised like warriors. DEAN So what are you gonna do? excuse me while my heart breaks into little bits. i knew that line in 15x20 was a callback to this, and it was heartbreaking then too. well actually it makes feel slightly ill rereading that scene from the finale. too emotionally invested

DEAN It started happening more and more, so Dad went to go dig around. That was about three weeks ago. I hadn't heard from him since, which is bad enough. DEAN Then I get this voicemail yesterday. He presses play. The recording is staticky and the signal was clearly breaking up. JOHN Dean...something big is starting to happen...I need to try and figure out what's going on. It may... Be very careful, Dean. We're all in danger.

so he coulda like. told dean he was ditching him for his safety in this sketchy vague voicemail, but then of course we wouldn't have them chasing him down with quite the same mystery. it's just kind of comical.

i mean so many classic interactions i can't handle it. also, real shame netflix didn't/wouldn't get the licensing for the music originally aired. i have the blurays but i'm down a functional bluray player so here i am, watching on netflix with shitty replacement music yet again. that scene should have had ramblin man and back in black. travesty. back when they splashed out for the good licensed music (and i usually was on board with lennertz's selections)

y'all. look at this! so i have talked a lot about the computer stuff, whenever there's a screen (in any show i'm watching) i'll pause and check out the veracity. teen wolf had laughably fake web page mockups. and one thing i do recall noticing in this episode was real webpage urls! and even in the printouts which comes later. which they did not do consistently in spn seasons after this at all until much later

there's so many moments in this episode that i've seen in gifs and didn't realize were all from the pilot. but it's really interesting to me to see how like.. the show really kind of pushed how much dean needed/wanted sam and sam was resisting, and how i think it really set up dean as the more "likeable" character initially, along with showing off his pretty face and charm and all that. on a brain-characterization level, i always relate more to sam but i was definitely charmed by dean initially.

SAM Call me if you find him? SAM And maybe I can meet up with you later, huh? DEAN Yeah, all right. DEAN Sam? DEAN You know, we made a hell of a team back there. SAM Yeah.

the only thing that i think makes this episode not quite paced right is how they crammed jess dying at the end and the we've got work to do thing. it felt really rushed and slapped on. but other than that, what a great pilot. ranks up there with the hannibal pilot

Rating every Eurovision final performance until I get bored (tw: opinions):

1) Austria : 9/10 not the greatest thing since sliced bread but a solid vibe, my kinda weird and pleasant musically, like the "ghostly" harmonies, scrarch my brain pleasantly, and as English lit student I appreciate poe.

2) Portugal: 5/10 not bad but legit don't remember anything and it just finished; piano riff sounded like I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

3) Switzerland: 4,5/10 feels very general-pop; good lyrics but the arrangement/melody makes me kinda too bored to really listen; formal line sounded like "Sk8ter boy" by Avril Lavigne

4) Poland (motherland, I'm so not proud, WHY): 4/10 song is generic summer radio pop, nothing original but honestly not the worst I've heard, tho I'm pretty sure I have heard a Latino/Spanish pop song at least very similar; also unfortunately heard fragments of this before and this performance is not too bad for her, at least she worked on it; why the dance solo (pun intended hehe) exists tho

5) Serbia: 6/10 man, the boi is pretty, but can he sing? Apparently not really 😬 visually interesting performance, auditorily not so much 😭 (dunno if it's a word). Points for originality tho, but will not stream.

6) France: 8/10 Strong vocals. Song is definitely not what I initially expected, which makes it more interesting. Really vibing. Honestly didn't find anything I didn't like aside from the length of her nails but their hers not my business. Maybe not "Eurovision crazy" enough to win but still love it

7) Cyprus: 3,5/10 pleasant voice but nothing special yet; song feels ESC-generic, don't like the falsetto high notes. Lyrics feel like AI generated broken heart song

8) Spain: 8/10 kinda arabic vibes? Great vibes, song very original, not my personal fave, but still amazing quality-wise imo.

9) Sweden 7/10 Loreen my girl this isn't Euphoria -level :( not bad, but nothing special, tho the singing is mostly amazing. Her nails are a safety hazard, sorry to the French lady.

10) Albania: 5,5/10 very Eastern vibe. Original enough, the main lady sings great, but the song doesn't really resonate with me so far. Don't like the dude.

11) Italy: 9.5/10 sounds like a generic pop but in Italian, and I like his bedazzled top. Ok, nvm, song is not groundbreaking but his voice makes up for it. Not sure if win material but "add to playlist material" for sure. Im pretty sure I've just heard "calzone" in there, prolly incorrect but don't care, extra point

12) Estonia: 9/10 not the most innovative but has 'something', like it so far. Would fit a fantasy soundtrack, maybe that's what has me hooked. The auto-playing piano cracks me up tho, same with the wrist-belts, but those take nothing from the performance.

13) Finland: 6/10 heard it all over Tiktok through last week and am fed up with it😬 is a vibe, but after too many times imo plain annoying. Points for the outfit, personally hate it but is already iconic. Unfortunately song is even more irritating live :/ but also frustratingly catchy, gonna be stuck in my head

14) Czechia: 7/10 was loving the slavicness, wish it didn't switch to English, ruins the vibe, also Female Power points. The performance doesn't give much to watch, but nice to listen to.

15) Australia: 8/10 yeah, never saw a dude in a car on stage before. I like the song very much, but not the most original in the genre. But, might be on of the best ones tonight.

16) Belgium 4/10 generic EDM pop, gives the same vibe as Be My Lover by La Bouche but worse and with Positive Message™️

17) Armenia: 6,5/10 pretty but? Im gonna forget about it in 5 mins or make it my personality for the next 10 days, but option 1 is more probable.

18) Moldova: 9/10 don't know what's going on but in a good way. I think this song may be doing to me what Chachacha was supposed to, tho it's not the greatest thing. (Got a bit bored in the edm interlude)

19) Ukraine: 3/10 feels like they knew what they wanted to say but unfortunately needed to make it into a song. Don't like it at all tbh, but organs in the background are cool.

20) Norway: 10/10 my fave!!!!! Haven't heard the beginning yet! Sounds like she has stage fright:( love tho pls win? Love how she looks like she's enjoying herself

21) Germany: 6/10 why is their leader cosplaying Vecna from ST???? Song stands out but, feels generic at the same time?

22) Lithuania: 6,5/10 life story but make it Disney soundtrack. Nothing we haven't heard on ESC before, but not bad. Pretty visual display .

23) Israel: 3/10 ummm no. Shame it isn't in a language I don't know, would like it much better. Like the voice, and the instrumentals at the beginning, but that's it. No, I didn't wanna see you dance. Choreo is nice tho.

24) Slovenia: 9,5/10 sounds like something I usually would like (i think(on second thought no, not really)) but I do. Guy has a good voice, love their energy, somehow they look friendly.

25) Croatia: 10/10 gay sailors who's mother bought a tractor? Eurovision at it's finest 😂 this one stands out like nothing else

26) UK: 2/10 don't be boring pls!!! Ok, you are ;( the intro was promising, then she started to sing... Nothing criminally bad, would bear it on the radio, but boring af

Author’s Note: Short installment. Literally just a little Valentine’s Day fluff because some intense stuff is coming soon. I’m really great/awful about dragging this out, but damn it I have so many ideas I want to somehow incorporate.

Tyson woke up at AJ’s, thankfully she had the day off knowing that she and Jess’ flight back from Dallas was going to be late. However it was a very quick breakfast together, as Tyson wanted to hit up optional practice (he had been working with Jussi and the goalies more, trying to work on his own skills while helping them out), and then said he “needed to go shopping.”

This was code for, “I still need to get you something for Valentine’s Day.”

You know, because… this very day is Valentine’s Day.

“Okay babe. Do you want to get dinner or something? Although that might be next to impossible being February 14th.”

Tyson thought about it for a few moments. “How about I bring some Chinese? Just a chill evening in, yeah? I mean, if you had your heart set on going somewhere fancy I can try playing the ‘I play for the Avalanche’ card…”

“You, me, and some Chinese sounds pretty good. I’m not usually one for big gestures on Valentine’s Day honestly. I think the sign yesterday was the biggest gesture I’ve literally ever made for it, honestly.” 

Tyson snagged a quick kiss before ducking out, heading directly to practice… wearing another one of AJ’s hoodies. He knew he was going to get crap for it, but he couldn’t get enough of how soft they were, and how they smelled like the body spray she often wore. She just rolled her eyes, knowing she’d reclaim it later at his place sometime, smelling instead of him. It was a vicious, beautiful cycle.

The two had previously talked about not going overboard on gifts like Tyson did at Christmas, but it was still a relative thing. AJ felt like she found a great *small* gift for him, and it came from the heart with the silliest of intentions. There was no way he wasn’t going to love it. And because she planned in advance, AJ was able to crawl back into bed for a few more hours of sleep (or at least scrolling TikTok and sending Jess videos most of the morning). 

It was finally around 1PM that AJ decided to be an adult and get out of bed. It simply was one of those mornings where it was just too comfortable to get out of, but she also knew that her back would be pissed off with her if she didn’t move soon. Pajamas seemed like a comfortable idea until Tyson texted around 4:30, saying he was heading over with dinner shortly. Frantically, AJ hopped in the shower, but lost herself a few minutes to the scalding hot water that washed away the sleepiness that was plaguing her. Not hearing the door open downstairs, AJ was surprised (and by surprised, I mean she screamed and threw a punch at the shadowy figure on the other side of the shower curtain) when a single rose poked itself into the steamy bath. And thankfully Tyson was pretty good at dodging fists.

Fighting to catch her own breath, AJ pulled the shower curtain back enough to poke her head out to voice her frustration after realizing it was only Tyson.

“DID YOU NOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM THE HAUNTED HOUSE? HOLY FUCK TYSON!”

She couldn’t stay angry seeing Tyson nearly falling over against the vanity trying to take his own clothes off as fast as possible to get into the shower with AJ. That goofy, giddy look that always took over his face was everything to her. Every time he saw her naked, he acted as if it was the first time all over again, trying to engrave every little detail into his memory. It gave AJ butterflies in her stomach every time too. 

Sometimes the nerves made her shy, covering her torso, hiding what she didn’t like about herself. But it never failed that being the hype man Tyson is, that he would talk her out of her own worries. He’d praise and worship every inch of her, which when in the shower, inevitably ran the hot water out. This was actually much preferred to Tyson. AJ never understood why he liked cold showers, where Tyson couldn’t grasp the concept of why hot showers were superior. But it also never failed that the two would be laughing as the hot water would run out, and Tyson would shield AJ from the cold spray, but also tease that he was going to pin her against the shower wall. Normally, this would be sexy as hell, but the walls in AJ’s shower were icy cold to the touch when she’d have taken a hot shower.

That damn glint of mischief was bright as day in Tyson’s otherwise darkened hazel eyes.

And more often than not, AJ would squeal as Tyson pressed her against the cold tile, but then doing something else that would make her forget all about the cold tile.

Stepping out of the shower first, he grabbed a fluffy bath sheet from the rack and tossed it to AJ still inside the curtain. After scrunching her curls, she wrapped the towel around her midsection and exited the tub. She was completely unable to not stare at the dripping wet naked Tyson in front of her, who was toweling off his legs, then chest.

“I’m going to straight up admit it, I’m staring very disrespectfully, Mr. Jost. Please do continue though.” AJ bit her lip while enjoying the sight before her. 

A deep crimson blush flooded Tyson’s cheeks, and went down his neck. 

“Oh yeah? Liking what you see?” Using his towel, he started exaggerating his moves and in doing so, became more ridiculous. 

Leave it to Tyson to diffuse what could have been an incredibly hot situation and turn it into something that leaves them both laughing, so much that AJ is nearly in tears. And Tyson loved to see and hear it - one of his favorite things was getting her to laugh, the kind of laugh that shook her whole body. He took that as the most real sound she ever could make.

After a few quick kisses and finally getting dried off and dressed, Tyson grabbed AJ’s hand (and the rose that started this whole mess) to bring her downstairs to get dinner that likely now would need reheated. However something on the sofa made AJ stop and stare, first at the fluffy shape, and then at Tyson.

“What is this?”

The smile on Tyson’s face couldn’t be contained as he guided her around to the front of the sofa.

In front of the two of them was a giant teddy bear holding a box of Smarties (Canadian Smarties, not American Smarties), the rest of the roses, and was clad in one of Tyson’s old Team Canada World Juniors jerseys.

“His name is Maple. I thought you could cuddle with him when I’m on the road, you know? And he’s bringing you Smarties, because you are what you eat. Ignore the fact you’re eating General Tso’s tonight, just think about that when you eat the Smarties. Because you’re my smarty!”

Tyson was clearly proud of himself on this one, when he looked over and saw that look again of “what the hell did you do/why did you do this/I love it.” It was a look AJ gave him often. 

“I love him, Tyson. You shouldn’t have, but… I do love him.” AJ gave the bear a giant hug before grabbing the small box off the coffee table. “I got you something too, it’s not nearly as substantial, but when I saw it, I knew you needed it.”

Unwrapping the paper from the long slender box, Tyson stopped and stared at AJ before opening the lid, revealing a necktie.

But not just any necktie, it literally had a waffle print on it. As in the breakfast waffle, including a little pat of butter and a splash of maple syrup at the bottom. He fingered the fabric as he started giggling.

“Really babe?”

“Oh yeah. We’ll find you a shirt that this tie will go with, and that way you can wear it on the road, and think of your Eggo. I can only imagine what the rest of the guys will think though.” AJ tried to stifle the chuckle but it still happened, and Tyson joined in. 

His fingers touched the fabric, and he got quiet, seemingly lost in thought. But he quickly came back to the current moment.

“I love it. And I love you baby. Happy Valentine’s Day.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day love.” AJ pulled Tyson in for a tight hug and a soft kiss. He kissed the tip of her nose again for good measure.

“Now let’s go reheat those eggrolls, I’m starving!”

AJ just rolled her eyes at Tyson before being pulled into the kitchen. With food reheated, the two retreated back to the sofa to put on a movie, but not before having to move Maple to the overstuffed chair. And with full bellies, the bowls were set on the coffee table and the two curled up together. Tyson was texting someone while AJ laying across his lap, and was getting frustrated that his phone was blocking the view of the TV for her. Usually the two were good about not being on their phones when hanging out, but this was important to Tyson. But he could tell that she was getting a little frustrated.

“Sorry babe, just about finished. Showing Grandma and Grandpa the tie.” He snapped a photo of the tie and texted it, along with one more message before putting his phone on the coffee table.

Tyson: Hey, this message is just for Grandpa Jim.

#GeniusLabListens 2022 Top Spins

Published Sunday, December 25th, 2022 —  As 2022 comes to an end, I want to remember all the amazing music that came out this year. With the KPOP industry growing more and more competitive as months go by, we saw 2022 give birth to a multitude of notable full-length albums and EPs; and some artists even released more than one record this year. Being a multi-stan, I end up listening to a long list of releases every year and it was a little difficult to narrow it down*—but here we are.

Merry Christmas everyone. This is Genius Lab USA and here are the #GeniusLabListens 2022 Top Spins.**

1. DISHARMONY : FIND OUT — P1Harmony (EP)

Release Date: January 3, 2022

P1Harmony has this quirky tendency to make an entire EP full of bangers—except for the last track, which is a ballad. I can’t pick a favorite song, so I’m not going to, although I will say that of the six, I listen to “Before The Dawn” the least.

2. THE SECOND STEP : CHAPTER ONE — TREASURE (EP)

Release Date: February 15, 2022

Short and sweet. “DARARI” was used in a lot of Instagram Reels and TikToks around the time of release, but “JIKJIN” will always be the star of this EP to me—and rightfully so.

3. YOUNG-LUV.COM — STAYC (EP)

Release Date: February 21, 2022

STAYC have been huge favorites for me this year, not just among girl groups but in the general KPOP soundscape. “YOUNG LUV” makes me cry ugly tears every time and “RUN2U” deserved better than what the general public gave her.

4. Love Pt.1 : First Love — WEi (EP)

Release Date: March 16, 2022

WEi is another group who I personally think got paid dust this year and I would really love it if more people appreciated them because they are going places. “Too Bad” may be a song about confessing to someone you like but it got me through a lot of stressful times since the EP’s release, since I chose to interpret the chorus in a different way.

5. ODDINARY — Stray Kids (ALBUM)

Release Date: March 18, 2022

The album itself is a little odd in its experimental nature—hence the name ODDINARY—but I enjoyed the overall flow from song to song and the group’s willingness to play around with their sound. Favorite tracks are “MANIAC” and “FREEZE”.

6. Glitch Mode - The 2nd Album — NCT DREAM (ALBUM)

Release Date: March 28, 2022

NCT DREAM being the most active sub-unit was one of the biggest surprises of 2022 and I really enjoyed this album a lot. Big winners for me are “Fire Alarm” and “Saturday Drip”.

7. memeM — PURPLE KISS (EP)

Release Date: March 29, 2022

No one’s doing it like PURPLE KISS, in my opinion, because no one else has Swan in their group. This EP was delightfully eerie and I found joy in “Pretty Psycho” and “memeM”. Honorable mention: “Hate me, Hurt me, Love me”.

8. SERIES 'O' [ROUND 3 : WHOLE] — VERIVERY (ALBUM)

Release Date: April 25, 2022

I still have mixed feelings about this particular album because of the fact that “Childhood” sounds like a carbon copy of ATEEZ’s “Dancing Like Butterfly Wings”—but it has a lot of good songs on it. Favorite tracks are “Wish U were here”, “O”, and “Fine”.

9. FLASHBACK — IKON (EP)

Release Date: May 3, 2022

I did not see this EP coming but I’m so thankful because “BUT YOU” hurts so good. That’s all I have to say about it—that’s all I need to say about it. I hear “I’m in love again” and my emotions are toast.

10. minisode 2: Thursday's Child — TOMORROW X TOGETHER (EP)

Release Date: May 9, 2022

The best birthday present HYBE has ever given me. The entire EP is perfection, cohesive and artistic perfection. “Good Boy Gone Bad” is what I would consider an outlier amongst the other songs, but she still serves and keeps serving. I love “Opening Sequence” with all of my heart.

11. Drive to the Starry Road — ASTRO (ALBUM)

Release Date: May 16, 2022

This album is very true to ASTRO’s established sound and style, but the solo songs were a nice touch. “Candy Sugar Pop” is a fun, light summer bop but my picks are “Something Something”, “Light the sky”, and “Like stars”, plus Sanha’s solo track “24 Hours”. It was also the last album MJ participated in before enlisting.

12. TRICKSTER — ONEUS (EP)

Release Date: May 27, 2022

Listen, ONEUS have never released a bad record. That’s the truth and more people need to recognize that. This EP is pretty kooky but it’s great. Good things come in pairs, as with “Intro : Who Got the Joker?” and “Bring it on”.

13. GOT7 — GOT7 (EP)

Release Date: May 23, 2022

The single most beautiful thing to have happened to the KPOP industry this year if only because GOT7 look so happy to be making the music they want and out of reach of JYP’s claws. I love the entire vibe of the EP but my queen is “Drive Me To The Moon”.

14. The Story — KANGDANIEL (ALBUM)

Release Date: May 24, 2022

I wasn’t too crazy about him prior to this year, but I think that KANGDANIEL really understands vibes. Favorite tracks are “Don’t Tell (feat. Jessi)”, “How We Live (feat. sokodomo)”, and “Mad (feat. Chancellor)”.

15. 4th Album 'Face the Sun' — SEVENTEEN (ALBUM)

Release Date: May 27, 2022

Need I say anything? It’s a perfect album from start to finish and I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite song because I love them all, although “Darl+ing” and “’bout you” have joined the ranks of SEVENTEEN favorites. I hope they’re very proud of this album because I’m proud of them.

16. Story Written in Music — OMEGA X (ALBUM)

Release Date: May 31, 2022

What happened to them this year was really unfortunate and infuriating, but in spite of what SPIRE ENTERTAINMENT put them through, OMEGA X really put out a fantastic summer album. They have fun, party music but also sweet romantic songs, of which “DANCE WITH U” and “LOVE” are my absolute favorites.

17. DOUBLAST — Kep1er (EP)

Release Date: June 20, 2022

I know they put out another EP after this, but for me, this one hit me in more of the right places and the line distribution (I think) was the best it’s been so far. Released during the peak of summer comeback season, it has a wonderful dreamy feel to it. Favorite track is “LE VOYA9E”.

18. MANIFESTO : DAY 1 — ENHYPEN (EP)

Release Date: July 4, 2022

I haven’t forgotten about the recurring bullying incidents within this I-LAND disaster group but I have to admit that ENHYPEN knows how to keep people’s attention. This EP packs a powerful punch and “Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)” is a top-tier hype song.

19. HOLIDAY — WINNER (EP)

Release Date: July 5, 2022

Like IKON’s EP, I didn’t see this one coming either but “I LOVE U” has me by the throat. I mean, do you hear those high notes? Crisp, clear, stable. Check, check, and check. “10 MIN”, “HOLIDAY”, and “FAMILY” are also bops.

20. THE EARTH : SECRET MISSION Chapter.2 — MCND (EP)*

Release Date: July 7, 2022

Arguably one of the most fun releases of the summer—and this year, quite honestly—this EP proves that no one should be sleeping on MCND. I love every single song but I especially thrive off of “W.A.T.1″. It’s just so good.

21. THE WAVE OF9 — SF9 (EP)

Release Date: July 13, 2022

I’m not sure what they put in this EP but it’s definitely something. Every track is so completely addictive and perfect for the summer mood they were trying to set. My top track for this release, however, is “OK OK”.

22. CHECKMATE — ITZY (ALBUM)

Release Date: July 15, 2022

I know it’s their title track but I like every other song on this album except “Sneakers” and personally, I think it would’ve been a perfect album without it. Cringe-y TikTok song aside, this record is pretty solid and not as bad as people were making it out to be. Top tracks for me are “RACER” and “365″.

23. 4th Album Repackage 'SECTOR 17' — SEVENTEEN (ALBUM)

Release Date: July 18, 2022

Ah, here we are again. Not counting the songs from the original release, this album is still perfect. “Circles”? Tears. “_WORLD”? Cute and catchy. “Fallin’ Flower (Korean Ver.)”? Gorgeous. But the winner that takes all is the SEVENTEEN Leaders unit song “CHEERS” because it’s playing all day everyday like rent is due.

24.  Geekyland — PURPLE KISS (EP)

Release Date: July 19, 2022

This EP feels like a continuation of “memeM”—in a good way, of course—and again, no one else is doing it like them. It’s a shame they haven’t done anything to promote it but the stand out of this record for me is “FireFlower” with an honorable mention for “Love Is Dead”.

25.WE NEED LOVE — STAYC (SINGLE)***

Release Date: July 25, 2022

STAYC stays destroying my emotions and the difference between “BEAUTIFUL MONSTER” and “I LIKE IT” gives me whiplash but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also, “BEAUTIFUL MONSTER” is up there with “YOUNG LUV” in making me shed tears.

26. Grown Ass Kid — ZICO (EP)

Release Date: July 27, 2022

I may still be channeling my love for BLOCK B through ZICO but this EP was really something special. Experimental, edgy, and expressive, I love all the different styles he explored in just five songs. Standout song for me is “OMZ freestyle”.

27. THE WORLD EP.1 : MOVEMENT — ATEEZ (ALBUM)

Release Date: July 29, 2022

Holy hell. If you read my very in-depth analysis of this album when it first came out, you’ll know that I spent a lot of time ruminating over the themes and messages; and if you’re an ATINY, you know that there is an entire universe contained in ATEEZ’s discography. The dystopian evil government takeover they were describing in this album was brought to life so flawlessly, I could almost believe that they’re really fighting for something. I am a “Sector 1″, “Cyberpunk”, and “The Ring” enthusiast.

28. 7TH MINI ALBUM [BE AWARE] — THE BOYZ (EP)

Release Date: August 16, 2022

I think THE BOYZ always put out fun records but that people usually miss out on the more poignant or softer tracks because of the ones they choose to promote instead. I really like “C.O.D.E” and “Timeless” but “Survive The Night” is my dearly beloved of beloveds.

29. 5th EP Album 'OK' Episode 1 : OK Not — CIX (EP)

Release Date: August 22, 2022

This EP only has four songs but they’re all great. CIX has been going in the direction of softer, more R&B-style songs recently, which I’m all here for, especially since Bae Jinyoung’s voice is very suited for that genre. I really, really, really love “Without You”.

30. BETWEEN 1&2 — TWICE (ALBUM)

Release Date: August 26, 2022

I would say that I’m someone who generally likes everything TWICE puts out but obviously there will be albums I like more. Conceptually, BETWEEN 1&2 is more mature, which is indicative of the girls getting older, and I think that’s a great thing. I am a superfan of “Queen of Hearts” and “When We Were Kids", although I also really like “Gone”.

31. MALUS — ONEUS (EP)

Release Date: September 5, 2022

This release had me by the throat throughout the entire fall season. In fact, it still has me by the throat. I can’t even tell you how often I listened to “Same Scent” and I definitely watched every single time they performed it. I also have a very special place in my heart for “Gravitation” and “STUPID LOVE”. This EP is also very bittersweet to me because it’s the last Korean release RAVN worked on before he left RBW and I can definitely say that their future records will not sound the same without him.

32. THE SECOND STEP : CHAPTER TWO — TREASURE (EP)

Release Date: October 4, 2022

The timing of this EP happened to coincide with Yedam and Mashiho leaving YG, which is still quite sad to me—but on the plus side, the songs are very catchy, moreso overall than their previous release. I really enjoyed the unit songs, namely the rap line’s “VolKno”, but “HELLO”—like “JIKJIN”—was the star.

33. MAXIDENT — Stray Kids (ALBUM)

Release Date: October 7, 2022

MAXIDENT is really everything I wanted in a Stray Kids album. For one thing, they gave me the Korean version of “CIRCUS”, which I had been begging for. For another, it has “CASE 143″, “CHILL”, “3RACHA”, and “TASTE” on it. But nothing—I repeat, nothing—beats the “nyaooooom”s in “SUPER BOARD” because it’s so unserious.

34. ANTIFRAGILE — LE SSERAFIM (EP)

Release Date: October 17, 2022

If you had told me that in 2022, a KPOP group would be releasing a genuinely authentic reggaetón song, I probably would’ve laughed at you but here we are. I will probably never get over “ANTIFRAGILE”. Ever. And “No Celestial”? Oh my God, someone give those girls a raise.

35. YOUTH — KIHYUN (EP)

Release Date: October 24, 2022

This EP only reinforced what I already thought about Kihyun: that he’s really a KPOP vocalist by day, indie rock singer by night. I love that for you, sweetie. You do you, Kihyun. Song I fell in love with the hardest is “STARDUST”.

36. Choice — VICTON (EP)

Release Date: November 15, 2022

VICTON had a release earlier this year that also has a lot of songs that made it onto my personal playlists but I did very much prefer this one, especially since it has “Time Chaser” because “Time Chaser” is such a beautiful song. So beautiful. Please love it.

37. 'The ReVe Festival 2022 - Birthday' — Red Velvet (EP)

Release Date: November 28, 2022

I don’t know what people’s issue with this EP is but it’s definitely my favorite out of Red Velvet’s more recent releases. Personally, I haven’t liked a release so much since their “Red Flavor” era. Top pick from this EP is “ZOOM”.

38. HARMONY : SET IN — P1Harmony (EP)

Release Date: November 30, 2022

Twice in one year, P1Harmony made an EP full of winning hype tracks and one ballad—but “Back Down” is on an entirely different level from the rest of the record. It’s so hard-hitting and powerful, the kind of song you’d play in your car with the windows down so that the cops might think about pulling you over for disturbing the peace.

39. Indigo — RM (ALBUM)

Release Date: December 2, 2022

This album is a vibe. A vibe! If you want to know more of my thoughts on this particular release, please read my review. My favorite songs are “All Day (with Tablo)”, “Closer (with Paul Blanco, Mahalia)”, “Hectic (with Colde)”, and “Wild Flower (with youjeen)”, which is inevitably the song that made me sob like my heart was shattering. Anyway, stream Indigo.

40. SKZ-REPLAY — STRAY KIDS (ALBUM)

Release Date: December 21, 2022

I didn’t think we were going to get anything else this late in the year but Merry Christmas and happy holidays to Stays from Stray Kids with this two-side record consisting of 25 tracks that include solo songs, sub-unit songs, and songs performed by the group. Top picks are “Fam”, “Limbo”, “Deep End”, and “#LoveStay”.

talking about books i read in 2022 (february)

14. Into the Wild - Jon Krakauer (jan 5 - feb 7)

this is once again another book that i read for school. it follows the death of chris mccandless and his life leading up to his untimely end. i get the point of this book, and i’m sure that i would have enjoyed it if i were to have picked this book up on my own accord. i don’t feel okay rating this book, because i didn’t really follow along with this book as much as i could have and i don’t feel okay giving an opinion on something that i’m not really sure about. therefore, my only opinion on this book is that you should read it for yourself. create your own opinion.

15. Change of Heart - Clare Lydon (jan 17 - feb 12)

this is a book that i started during my 24 hour readathon but didn’t finish that day. i picked this book up on a whim off kindle unlimited. i had no idea what this book was about, or who clare lydon was. i saw the cover, it had two women on the cover, and i clicked that read for free button. i picked this book up on that day, and then forgot about it. but then i remembered it and i didn’t want 2 of the 5 books that i picked up on that day to be a flop so i read it. it has fake dating, i’m pretty sure it had only one bed. it was pretty mid. UNTIL the plot twist happened. i will not say what it is, but if you’ve read this book, then you know what i’m talking about. it literally shook me to my core. i remember sitting on the couch in my living room and audibly GASPING when i read it. granted it did have it’s issues. like i could tell our heroines apart. i didn’t know who hired who and i don’t think i could’ve even told you by the time that i finished reading it. so i gave it 4 stars. but i was probably more of a 3.5 if you take into consideration the fact that i don’t even know our two main characters apart.

16. Catch and Cradle - Katia Rose (feb 13 - feb 13)

this book is another sapphic sports romance. and it isn’t going to be the last one. i have no interests in sports, why have i read so many?? i’ll be honest, i have no idea what this was about… but upon reading the description, one of the main characters is a redhead and we all know how i feel about those *hearteyes*. i don’t know what else to tell you guys, they’re not supposed to date teammates and then they do? but i don’t think that either party was like ‘omg no we can’t date’. they were literally doing it by chapter 13. which is relatively early on imo. i gave this 4.5 stars and i think that’s too high, and i’ll go into detail on the next book.

17. This Used To Be Easier - Katia Rose (feb 14 - feb 14)

this book is shockingly… a second chance romance… i cannot believe it either and i gave it… FIVE WHOLE STARS. here’s the deal, i don’t think it was a five stars. i just enjoyed this one more than Catch and Cradle by the same author and i gave myself nowhere to go but 5 stars because i rated C&C so highly. i don’t remember anything about this book. i feel like connie, our main love interest, didn’t want to be gay and she struggled with that. then meg, our protag, came back to town and connie realized who she really was? i don’t know i could totally be making this up. i’d probably rate this 4 stars and rate C&C a 3 or 3.5 stars.

18. Party Favors - Erin McLellan (feb 15 - feb 16)

books i have read are starting to get harder to remember… it in the time where i read one book a day because i was so eager to beat my reading challenge as soon as possible. so i would look up ‘sapphic kindle unlimited recs’ into the tiktok and youtube search bars and just read them if they sounded the slightest bit of interesting. so i have no idea what this book is about. and i didn’t help myself with the review on my goodreads because all i said is, and i quote, ‘had a nice time reading’. am i serious? like okay past ava, give us absolutely nothing. people were saying that the smut was good, i probably agree. i don’t know. i gave 3.5 stars but i don’t even know what this story is about so… maybe not that high now.

19. The Missus - Natasha West (feb 16 - feb 16)

this book however, i do remember. this had the most shocking, whiplash giving thing happen at the end, and i will share. this is about kiera, who lives with her godawful boyfriend, breaks up with him and just moves into her neighbors apartment. the neighbor, alanna, is the most noncommittal person i’ve ever read in my whole life, one night stands over every single night, insisting that she does NOT want a relationship. then one day kiera pretends to be alanna’s girlfriend to get the ONS out of her apartment. alanna lets kiera live in her apartment for free as long as she pretends to be her girlfriend whenever she needs to get people out of her house. then so on. i gave this 4 stars and probably for the thing i’m about to tell you know. if you don’t want spoilers, go on to the next review. kiera’s ex boyfriend ends up with… HER MOM. ARE YOU KIDDING??? THE WHIPLASH THAT GAVE ME WHEN THE EPILOGUE CASUALLY STATED THAT THEY WERE DATING. wild and shook me to my core.

20. Hero - Jolie Vines (feb 17 - feb 17)

guys i remember absolute NOTHING about this book except for the fact that it was written with a scottish like dialect thing. and my reviews in this era of my reading does not help me. all this one says is, ‘pretty good time’ um what? yes give us absolutely NOTHING. i don’t know. i gave 3.5 stars but that was february me. july me doesn’t even remember this… oh well!

21. The Roommate - Rosie Danan (feb 18 - feb 18)

i liked this book a lot!!! it’s about clara who moves into and apartment with stranger, josh. he’s a famous for a certain genre of film (if you know what i mean) and they live as roommates while they get to know each other. this was a good time. I think the books where i waited and then picked them up after a little are the ones where i actually remember them. ones i picked up from tiktok, i don’t really remember. i gave this four stars and i look forward to probably reading the intimacy experiment. 

22. The Kiss Quotient - Helen Hoang (feb 19 - feb 19)

this is maybe my number one (first time) read of 2022. i enjoyed this book so so much. the representation of a heroine with asperger’s was incredible. to read a book where the main character isn’t sure whether she has trouble with having sexual relations is extremely… i don’t know, relatable. i liked that michael never pushed her to do anything, not to praise the bare minimum. but he did more than i feel like people in his position stereotypically would. he comforted her by watching a movie and cuddling her when i feel like most people would just leave. i don’t know i’m just typing at this point. tldr; i liked this story and gave it 5 stars. it’s might be my number one story of 2022.

23. The Bluff - Willa Nash (feb 20 - feb 20)

this story… i am a sucker for fake dating and even more so for a fake marriage. from other people’s reviews on goodreads, this is a single dad romance… I LOVE SINGLE PARENT ROMANCES. i love watching the partner interact with a kid. i’m still at the point of my life where i’m unsure if i want children, i know that if i do, i most definitely do not want to do it by myself. so i feel a sense of respect for these characters who are single parents and a raising kids alone, even if they aren’t real people. this ones a little different because he’s getting married to get his daughter back, but i’m sure our heroine and the daughter interact at LEAST once. I don’t know LMAO. fours stars from february ava!

24. The Love Hypothesis - Ali Hazelwood (feb 20 - feb 20)

hm what do we have here? THE tiktok book of the century. the reylo fanfiction turned published novel. noah fence, i feel like adam driver is probaby the most basic man of this century. whatever. i don’t even like men so who am i to judge? however, i liked this book? it wasn’t the greatest book i’ve read in my life, but i definitely was a thing i’ve read. i still gave it 4.5 stars because i thought it was cute? the smut was okay and he definitely did that one thing to her in bed, ifykyk. i don’t know. it was a solid read. 

25. Make Me Yours - Melanie Harlow (feb 21 - feb 21)

well well well. if it isn’t another single-parent romance. this is going to be a very common occurrence. not only that… it’s brother’s best friend, and next door neighbor. teacher x student’s parent (a trope that is in one of my WIP’s) watching our heroine interact with the kid is so cute. also she sends a saucy text to our hero while drunk and it was… hot. ew sorry. four stars that were well deserved.

26. Off Limits - M.S Parker (feb 22 - feb 22)

here’s my beef, i there are two books that follow this one and i did not read them. so i don’t know the outcome of this series. i don’t even remember how this one ended. i just remember the hero asking for creepy things than our heroine girlbossing him out of her massage place. i don’t exactly remember how they got together in the end. 3.5 stars at the time but now it’s definitely lower.

27. Ghosted - J.M Darhower (feb 23 - feb 24)

second chance romance x single parent trope = 3.5 stars. this book was okay. our hero was a trash dad because he chose fame over his daughter, daughter is obsessed with father’s character in movie without knowing that he’s her father, mother rightfully pissed at him. blah blah blah they get back together once HE decides he’s ready to be a parent. whatever. team whatever our heroine’s name was.

well… that certainly is a cover. my guess from this review is that it had a very shocking ending from my review of, ‘blink, blink, blink’ which reading the synopsis, this makes sense… from the fact our heroine gets pregnant. i did not voluntarily read a pregancy story… did i? oHH our heroine is working on our thesis and she does her best work hence where she meets him. then get’s pregnant from a ons? i don’t know and i don’t care. i most DEFINITELY picked this up from tiktok, that godforsaken app.

FAKE DATING FAKE DATING FAKE DATING, but also… fake marriage to get my inheritance. mouth is watering right now. i don’t remember what this was about, but i do know that these books are incredibly popular on booktok and booktube. it was good but it wasn’t memorable. i have no recollection of anything that happened in this book, but feb ava gave it 4 stars. go her!

Fife? What’s going on?

Forgive me if anyone has pointed this out before an I have missed this discourse previously, but....What is up with Fife?

Here’s my hypothesis (and isn’t this half the fun of participating in fandom anyway?):

I saw a tiktok (I did not save it), that showed Penelope running down the hill toward Eloise at Aubrey Hall. The day she shows up in a Green Dress (TM). In the background, several characters are walking along, but who is in the corner of the left side? Fife! And he’s watching Penelope. Hmmm.

So then, I looked him up online, and there isn’t a lot about the character on his wiki page. So I went to the actor’s IMDB, and they had a clip show thingy, and Pen was in several clips that he was featured in. Like, most of the clips. 

He was watching her in season 1 when Colin danced with her. He was REALLY AND INTENTLY watching her when Colin dance with her in season 2. Like, the dude stared at them the whole time. 

And then I went and watched the “Are you courting the girl?” scene (Heartbreak, I know), and the way Fife asked doesn’t exactly sound like the way he’s talked about women the other times. His voice is inflected differently in the other scenes. Like when he was thanking Anthony for deciding to marry, and when he was rude during the promenade, and..well all the times Fife bothers to open his mouth. But, when he asks Colin if he’s courting the girl, it sounds like an earnest question. Like he’s feeling out if it’s okay to have a thing for Penelope Featherington. Like, maybe, if Colin had said yes, then it would have made it socially okay for Fife to maybe court her too (Or go after her some sort of way). 

So my sis is going to go back and watch all of season one and two again and watch the background any time Pen is there and we are going to try and snap every time Fife is watching Penelope. I think it’s a lot more than we realize. 

SOOOO, this brings us to possible Season 3 conflict. What if Fife decides to say “To Heck with It” and tries to court Penelope. Or at least give her more noticeable attention than he’s giving her right now? 

First off, we won’t have to worry about a love triangle because Penelope is smart enough to decline his advances. She’d rather be single than mess with that guy. But Fife is Fife and he’ll probably become more dogged if he really does have a thing for her. He gave up quick on Edwina, but it was his friend who seemed more into Edwina and Fife was just there being performative. And maybe Fife’s attention sets Colin to spiraling. Not really jealousy (though I for one like a little jealously (Anthony staring at Kate in the boat anyone?), but maybe it wakes him up his current feelings for Penelope. She’s definitely avoiding Colin by this point. She’s never at the Bridgertons’ house because of her rift with Eloise, she’s dressing in greens and blues and soft pinks and he’s forced to realize something is going on in his heart because FIFE is openly displaying an affection toward Penelope that SIGNIFICANTLY PALES in comparison to anything going on inside of Colin, yet here is Fife trying to court her? So Colin will need to do some soul searching, because why isn’t he himself courting her when Fife certainly isn’t able to see all that Penelope really is and all that she is is screaming inside Colin’s heart and mind. 

In Conclusion: Fife has a secret thing for Penelope (that may not be wholesome at all because it’s Fife) but it’s going to get more noticeable in season three and that will set off the chain of events that makes Colin recognize what he’s already feeling for Penelope. 

Cue Penelope Fan Boy Number 1.

OK so! I was never an Efentix shipper last year. I thought it was entertaining, but I was super skeptical of it and didn’t think it would last if there was anything real about it. This year we found it really was real all along. I just saw Efendi’s Instagram stories from Turin holding hands with Andreas and I almost squealed! This is so sweet and I cannot handle it.

AN: I didn’t think I was going to write anything for this fandom, but recently I read about how Elvis at one time expressed to Dolly Parton his interest in recording “I Will Always Love You.” So, then I had a thought, which is the premise of this little oneshot.

Wordcount: 908

There was nothing more peaceful in the evening that Austin playing guitar. Even when he played more upbeat songs, the acoustic notes created a hushed quality in the room that surrounded you like a hug. It was the warmest feeling, and it made you feel close to him even if neither of you said a word.

It didn’t even matter if you were just sitting there or if you had other things to do. Tonight, you had enjoyed listening as you washed up the dinner dishes and then sat down on the sofa to catch up on your reading. The instrumental versions of Elvis songs that Austin played were a perfect soundtrack for all of it.

But your attention moved completely from your reading to the music when Austin started playing and singing a different song. It wasn’t one you had heard him play before. But you knew it. You’d heard it many times, but not like this.

“If I should stay I would only be in your way...”

Austin didn’t usually try to sound like Elvis when he was singing, anymore. But right now, he sounded so much like Elvis you were sure he must have been doing it on purpose. And it was beautiful.

“And I...will always love you...”

When he got to the end of the words, he kept playing the chords.

“Elvis singing ‘I Will Always Love You’?” you ask.

“Elvis never got to record this song,” Austin explained as he played. “But he wanted to.”

“Really?” you asked. Austin nodded.

“Dolly wanted to hear him sing it,” he continued, “but Tom Parker wanted fifty percent of the publishing rights, so she had to turn him down.”

“That’s too bad,” you said. “I would have loved to hear it.”

Austin bowed his head, a wistful expression on his face.

“She would have, too,” he murmured. He stayed that way for a few beats, then lifted his head to sing the chorus once more. This time, he put even more feeling behind the words. As you listened, your eyes burned at the sorrow in the song, and the story behind it you had just learned.

You couldn’t resist clapping when he finally finished, even though it wasn’t typical of your little evening serenades.

“Austin,” you said as you wiped the tears from your eyes. “This might sound ridiculous, but I think you need to record this song. Singing it like you did just now. You sounded so much like Elvis.”

“That’s already what everyone says about my voice,” Austin said. “I don’t know if they’ll be able to move on from that if I record a song.”

“You’ve got two big movies coming out, soon, they can’t see you as Elvis forever” you explained. “And besides, the way you were just singing it now was beautiful. And it didn’t sound the same as when you were singing as Elvis for the movie.”

“You just said I sounded like Elvis,” he said. 

“You do,” you tried to explain. “But in a different way. And the way you sang it... it was so moving I almost started crying!”

“I’ve already told people I’m not going to focus on music right now,” Austin said. “I love music, but I’ve closed that door.”

You shook your head and took his hand, which he had placed on the couch cushion next to him when he had stopped playing.

“I don’t think so,” you said. “And even if you have, there’s plenty of people who would open it as soon as you say the word.”

Austin looked down at your hand, gently caressed it with his thumb.

“Do you really think anyone would go for that?” he asked quietly. 

“I know they would,” you said. “Vanessa knew you should play Elvis just from hearing you sing along to the radio. Baz knew you could play such a demanding role when he watched your audition tape. People in the crew through you were so good they would pay money to see you onstage, and they were there to work. You can sing, Austin, and you can sing well! I’d go even further and say you can perform! And there was so much emotion in your singing, if someone doesn’t want to hear that, then they don’t understand music.”

I have a theory about Bruno and the “prophecies” from “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”

So we know from the end of the movie that Peppa’s “Prophecy” wasn’t a prophecy, it was just Bruno trying (and failing) to reassure his sister on her wedding day. My theory is that none of the “Prophecies” in the song were actual prophecies.

I saw a Tiktok that said they think the gifts came with more than just the outright obvious gift but more subtle gifts as well. Like Camilo’s shapeshifting also allows him to properly pretend to be someone else, automatically knowing their habits and small things someone wouldn’t notice without having to observe someone. Or Delores having super hearing but also having the ability to fine tune and focus on specific things as well as tune others out and understand everything she is hearing and know what it is (what’s that whirring sound? Oh it’s a fly that’s about 2.4 miles away.) as well as Isabella having a vast knowledge of botany, knowing everything about any plant she grows.

But this is about Bruno, not the rest of the family, so what I think his “extra gift” is is perception. Yes, he can create actual prophecies for anything but I think there are certain things he can just look at, run the math in his head, and be able to give you an accurate prediction without having to go through the whole process. After all, look at his room, it’s clearly set up for a que line, meaning people were lining up to get a prophecy from him, and I can’t imagine how draining it would be to have to do the entire shebang for every person in line. I think most people came in with a question, and he was able to logically give them the outcome after a little questioning, similar to how a fortune teller might but his are more accurate.

We already know that’s kind of what Peppa’s wedding day was, so we can apply this to the other lines as well. “He told me my fish would die, the next day? DEAD!” Her fish was probably sick or not looking too good, so she asked Bruno if he thought the fish would get better, and Bruno, upon observing the fish, probably told her something like “I don’t think your fish will live to see tomorrow unless you get it to a vet.” And all she heard was the first part, and assumed it was hopeless to try and save her fish.

“He told me I’d grow a gut, and just like he said!” This one’s open to a bit more interpretation on how the interaction went, but possibly He approached Bruno while eating and Bruno made a joke saying “You keep eating like that and you’ll have a gut in no time”. Thus making the guy think he was given a prophecy when he did indeed get fat.

“He said that all my hair would disappear now look at my head!” I think this one is honestly just male pattern baldness. Like I think he asked Bruno if his hair would stay or go, and Bruno, knowing his family had a history of MPB, told him it would probably go away, and sure enough, it did.

“He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine. He told me that my powers would grow like the grapes that thrive on the vine!” Isabella’s is a bit more vague than the others, so I think she, as a small child, kept pestering her uncle for a prophecy, and to satisfy her, he told her “one day you will have the life you always dreamed” knowing she was especially favored by Abuela and therefore most likely to get anything and everything she wanted. She probably prodded more, asking about what powers she would get, and he was able to accurately guess similar to how Mirabel predicted Antonio’s gift (she gave him a stuffed animal and said “I know you like animals”). He saw she liked flowers and plants, and told her (in a cryptic way adults do when talking to a kid and trying to be mysterious and fun) “Your power will grow like the grapes that thrive on a vine”

“He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach; betrothed to another!” I actually think Delores’ prophecy was given to her later in life, after Bruno had “left”. We already know she knew he was there the whole time based on her earlier line in the song “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling” and the end of the movie when she confirmed she did indeed know he was there. We also know he was watching his family from inside the walls and keeping watch over them. When Mariano started coming around, I think Bruno noticed Delores’ feeling for him, but also noticed that Abuela was thinking he would be a perfect match for Isabella, and said as much out loud. Maybe not with the intention of telling Delores, but she heard nonetheless, and gave up even trying.

So yeah, I don’t think any of the predictions in the song were actual prophecies as much as self-fulfilling prophecies, where he told someone how something was likely to go, and they made it go that way by thinking it WAS a prophecy.

8. https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/ - a fantasy map generator. if you have names for your countries and cities but have no idea how it would look on a map, give this a shot.

9. https://www.writerduet.com/ - a site for screenwriters. you already have the format down and the font, you just gotta write.

10. https://www.artbreeder.com/browse - I’ve never used this one and can’t use it yet but I saw someone talk about it on TikTok and saved it. From what I got, it’s a site to create a visual of you fictional characters, and probably find references since there are so many beautiful characters to look at.

11. https://www.listchallenges.com/ - here, they give you lists of novels, movies and manga to read. I use this whenever I need a new BL to read, but you can find other stuff here, like a specific list of classic American novels and classic English novels, or classic films of the 70s and 40 best feel good movies. try it out.

12. https://www.chilternpublishing.co.uk/ - a company that published beautifully covered novels notebooks. 

13. https://pomofocus.io/ - a pomodoro site, not just for readers and writers but for students as well.

14. https://www.lexico.com/explore/archaic-words - a list of archaic words you might wanna add to your vocabulary or your WIPs.

15. https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ - free text-to-speech site for those who are tired of reading their work and want to hear it for free. some words may sound off but it’s still usable.

16. https://www.sparknotes.com/ - this one would most likely be used more by students, but sparknotes is really, really good. i only use it for literature when I need to read the original and the translations of pieces, but there are other subjects, like math, physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, poetry, psychology, and others.

17. https://www.lexico.com/explore/literary-words - another list of words you might want to add to your vocabulary and/or use in your WIPs.

18. https://www.juniperbooks.com/collections/antique-leather-books-1 - another company that publishes and sells beautifully covered books.

19. https://fortelling.web.app/#/ - a site to plan out your novel.

20. https://www.eastonpress.com/ - yet another company that publishes beautifully covered novels.

21. https://wordsworth-editions.com/collections/collector's-editions - of course, another company that published beautifully covered novels.

22. https://www.storyplanner.com/ - a great site to plan out your novels and scripts. you can also work on your loglines, synopsis, chapter plans, the setting of your novel and character plan. i really like this site so i would recommend it to all my writers out there.
