Review #1

Taylor Swift - Folklore

This so-called review is the my first ever written review about literally anything, and I’m very sure it will definitely be so far away from an acclaimed critic’s review, but since I would like to express my opinions better and more understandable both in English and in my native language, I guess it can be said as a very fresh start, I shall say.

The reason that this is the first album I review is that it is the first ever CD I have bought for my collection! (which doesn’t exist just yet)

So, what can I mention of this album from my head only?

It is Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album, which was released on July 24th, 2020, in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, and the finest work of hers until this day. But why am I saying this, so bluntly, without proving any points based on my own notes and vision? Well, it is just my own gut feeling that speaks from me now, but if I had to actually support this gut feeling with valid objections, then I’m really sure I would say the same.

This album reached the general public really unexpectedly, and so had the fans.

Swift announced her new studio album without any early signs and just posted the cover of the album with the news that folklore is coming next day, midnight EST, with a new music video for the song called cardigan.

Before I’ll go into the detailed analysis, I would like to talk about the album itself, after hearing it in a whole.

(Disclaimer: the review was written after 3 years of the release and many thorough listens of the whole album, so the opinion was not formed by a first impression)

Folklore as a whole is a very cohesive record, to say the least. Every song stands its place in itself but harmonises so much with the other tracks as well. Swift always knew how to create an aesthetic, a vibe, a harmonical piece within an album. Since her sophomore album, it is quite noticeable, but sometimes stood off from this route (let’s say reputation or Red - these two are very diverse records from her). With the more acoustic production, she left behind the electronical way, which mostly defined her previous 3 records, and that made her really good. She broke through the pop girl image, which she carefully built throughout her career, and really showcased the writing, composing skills she previously had as well.

Besides all this, and without getting into her career analysis, let’s go back to the record itself.

The main focus of the album is as simple as the title: storytelling, in a detailed, descriptive way she had not done before for a whole record long. (of course, there are exceptions - yes it’s All Too Well and also Dear John)

She tells not only biographical, but mainly fictive stories for 67 minutes. We can find many perspectives in a song, and some of them are actually connected (which is a very very smart way to get people engaged in your record, if they even care that much)

The vocals on the record are very clean and simple, and the acoustic instrumentation even helps to it. The whole album fits into a kind of melancholia and sadness feeling, and from the first seconds of the first song, it does not leave until the lakes end (yes, I’m counting that into my review as well)

the 1 starts with a statement that “she’s doing good” but the song’s theme builds around a relationship that did not end as she would have wanted to. That song is a solid opener, as it is not that much of an acoustic style she plays with for the whole length of folklore, but the sense of the new style can be noticed there.

The cardigan-august-betty trinity is the three that are definitely connected. These are telling the same story but from different perspectives. The story is about a love triangle, and each character tells their own side of the events.

The third and the fourth tracks are the complete opposite (for me!!)

While I’m not not liking, but the least enjoying the great american dynasty, I’m always moved by exile, which is one of Swift’s best craft until this point.

The story and the lyrics in itself do not bring me in for tlgad, as much as exile does. Maybe this opposition gives the third track a weaker chance to get success by me.

There is a very solid track run from 5-9 (from my tears ricochet to this is me trying), and I am simply cannot skip any of them. The hauntiness, the emotional overload, the instruments - especially for august!! - are all peaking here in each of these.

This streak breaks with illicit affair and invisible string, but not entirely. These are a bit laid-back songs, with still touching narratives. It all comes back with mad woman and betty (and even in peace, in its own special way). epiphany is an odd one out, as it is a very deep and personal story. However, the length of it is a bit of a lack; don’t matter, how beautifully composed it is and how deep the lyricism is, I do not feel the same attachment and interest through the whole song as I did with the previous ones.

hoax and the lakes are the perfect closers for the standard and the deluxe versions, respectively. Both are underrated in most ears, but they achieve the matching feeling that the album gave since the beginning, and did not get flat in this case.

I might seem like a biased bitch according to this, but if considering her music, I can seem critical. But to my taste, my personal preference in lyrical style and production, and most importantly, album-wise, this is a near perfect record.

It surely will not be one of the best album ever in most people’s top lists, but as of now, Swift had not done a better album in my eyes. And I really like all of her records.

It is equally honest, creative, beautiful, ethereal, but also melancholic, hopeful, and clean.

This album is really a great starter if you are into indie genres or folk-acoustic genres, and also if you are skeptical about her and her popularity. Because this might just break the top of the iceberg enough to get a little interested about Swift.

The highlights for me: exile, seven, august, hoax

My least favourite: the last great american dynasty, epiphany

hate hoe i have genuine theories about alchemy of souls and whatnot but everytime i try to explain anything i get sidetracked and end up explaining liek 3 different love triangles at least

yes. there are themes and very interesting implications to the magical system. will i mostly end up talking about maidservant kims love life? Yeah probably.

Look look, i do care about it a lot

I think the whole episode 11 - jang uk is having n angst period because the thinks mu doek doesnt love him back - thing is realy nicely balanced with the cute relationships around it and also maidservant kim being the best mom, and i probably wouldnt have enjoyed the jang uk angst parts as much without park dang gu and jin... second young lady jins date, and the whole flower debacle.. its all very cute and really nicely supports all the relationship tension of our main couple

also i think they are adorable, talk about poison and muder my belovedes <3

but like. Does naksu is jin bu yeon was always? Look. We all know mu doeks body is definetpy jin bu yeons, that isnt a question, now the soul thing? I moved thru so mmay theories today thta i think i should finish all the episodes that are out before i actually form an opinion

Now, i think the way jin bu-yeon dies before she was born and the ice crystal was used to save her definetly has lasting effects. Also im extremly curious about what would happen if Naksu tried breathing in the Jin style.

also i use naksu for our main girl for two reasons: I find it extremly easy to say and also it sounds like its a moniker so it describes her as a person and isnt like the name given at birth or whatever, so to me it feels kind of lees convoluted when im trying to talk about the alchemy of souls : Naksu dhifted from the body she was in to mu doeks, idk it Does make sense to refer to her as the constelation mages daughter as naksu, to previous mu doek as jin bu yeon and to current naksu as mu doek, but idk, maybe its just that i like it when she kicks ass. Really enjoyed the servant competition- oru girl is competent and also its good to cheer with the boys ( all of the present generation male central charathers play off each other great as a friend group, the crown prince just fits in wonderfully)

but like. Okay so i be like: Im not sure Naksu will even go wild. Also i think she was quite close to the mastery of hwansu when she switched souls.

Also also im not sure mu doeks soul was properly tattered to the body, idk, i have several reasons.

The "naksu was the original soul of jin bu yeon and so has returned to her own body" theory is quite compeling and i have two places where an exchange of souls is likely to have happened, however i am lening more towards "at birth" mostly because of the age we are shown naksu having memories of - the second likely time, when the ice stone was unsealed, seems unlikely due to this, but i may need to rewatch a few scenes to be sure

The main reason i am intrested in this is the parallels between her and the founder of jinyowon, mostly via the whle jang uk and founder born under the kings star when the ice stone is causing trouble..

However i was originally leaning more towards an alchemy of the souls of the parents, there are some vibes, to me at least, of her father the constelation mage, not technically being her father (which of course doesnt make him actually less her father emotionally, the guy still raised and cared for her) however the jinyowon thing is by the female line..

It felt a lot like there was some baby swapping, like maybe jang uks father (not the king, i just cant remember his name) messed upa bit during the process of bringing the child to life and accidentally switched their souls..

Either way i doubt the girl we see talking to her mother about birds is naksu. I definetly agree that naksu and lady jin have a lot of simularities, but i have some doubts about her being the daughter she raised

either way its fascinating. Originally i just assumed that yes he did fuck up a bit in the resurrection and so jin bu yeons soul was not properly tethered to her body and it got worse after she unsealed the ice stone - yes i believe naksus soul is the one thats exceptional inside the body, frankly i originally assumed mu doeks soul was kinda tethered a bit outside of the body, but we dont really see an aura of that via the dog.. I mostly assumed thta due to the jang uk doesnt get seitched with the alchemy of souls scene

however i do think that naksus soul and the body mostly just need a bit of finagling to properly click, and i originally assumed that would mean learnibg hwansu. I am still very intrested in the possible effects of jin breathing techniques - it think it would be really funny if she was just breathing wrong and that was fucking up with her energy flow and making her way magically weaker then she ought to be. Yes its probably some type of metaphysical/mental block, but like wouldnt it be funny?

But like yeah, Lady Jin said that Jin Bu Yeon should be able to remember how to use spells quickly, so i think her body should be decently alright for a mage to use Some amount of magical power

Maybe her natural energy was in some wya damaged when unsealing the ice stone? Or maybe she needs to acess some memories or some shit, there are many possible answers and i should probbly go beyond ep 11 to rafo

#i mean frankly there are 20 episodes in this season and then another one #im barely halfway of course ill make a lot of incorrect theories and predictions #alchemy of souls #the only predictions i can be sure of in this show are baout the romantic relationships #as ive watched several romance korean tv dramas and no fantasy ones i both have more of a background #aand yul was just giving such strong second lead syndrome vibes #to be fair the show isnt trying to keep you in suspense about Those #i frankly dont trust my familiarity with the genre enough not to make some batshir unreasonable shit up #looking at you. old theory that wei wuxians grandma was a japanese necromancer that had undead dogs #like idk where i got that from but it could be a wattpad fanfic i write at 12 sort of predictions

That Smile

“Where are we going?”

“You’ll see.”

It’s our one-year anniversary and I have no idea where he’s taking me. I see a blanket in the back seat, and I know it’s going to be something romantic because that’s how he is. He’s not one of those over-the-top romantics, but he has his moments.

We pull up to a big open park, not many people around but it’s dinner time so no surprise there. He got out, almost sprinted around the car to get the door for me.

*11 months earlier*

“So this is your place.” It’s exactly what you’d expect of someone like him, big, fancy, granite countertops, leather sectional, open spaces, a balcony with a hot tub and some couches. Rich people might not always look rich when you see them out on the street, but once you see where they live, there’s no denying they have money.

“It’s beautiful.”

He scratched the back of his neck nervously, “thanks, I’m not around enough to make it look the way I’d want it to, but I was thinking in the summer I might move some stuff around… make it more home-y.”

I eyed the guitar in the corner, ‘cliché,’ I thought. So many douchebags have guitars on display with no idea how to play them. So I challenged him to it. “you play?” “Yea, I do.” “Are you good?” “I’ve got a couple songs up my sleeve,” he said with a chuckle.

I plopped myself on the couch and pretzeled my legs, staring at him eagerly, “well, by all means, I’d love to hear one.” He didn’t hesitate, walked over and picked up the guitar, he came back and sat right next to me.

“any requests?”

“you know any Clapton? Cliché I know, but I love his music.”

“not cliché at all, anything specific?”

“surprise me.”

In an instant I knew the song, my favorite. When I was younger my mom and I would always listen to 70’s and 80’s radio whenever we were in the car together. Softer, slower music, played later in the day. Then there was bedtime radio that started at 9 at night. It would always start with “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.

He must’ve noticed the smile on my face, because he started smiling too. “You like this one?”

“Love,” I answered, almost too quickly.

His smile grew.

He had one of those smiles that could make flowers bloom, or make babies stop crying. It wasn’t perfect by any means, even a little crooked, but it made fireworks go off in my stomach.

“It’s a great song, and easy enough to learn cause it’s slower. Not too many different chords.”

“It’s one of my favorites. The lyrics are incredible.”

“Can you sing?”

“Not even a little bit, I’m so bad.” Trying to find something to change the subject I started glancing around the room. My eyes went to the balcony. I got up from the couch and went over to the door. I felt a presence behind me. “We can go out if you want.” So I opened the door and step outside.

The warm, summer breeze felt like a hug. I walked around a bit, glancing at the lights and down at the street below. “Careful,” he said as he took a cautious step towards me. I didn’t realize how much I had been leaning over the edge. “Heights never really scared me.” “Well that’s good, but still… careful.” “I always am.”

I looked up; outside the city the stars were a little more visible. “Beautiful,” I said under my breath. Again, I felt a presence behind me. “You big into astrology?” “Only enough to know my star sign, and that it apparently fits me well. Beyond that, I just like to look at the stars.” “Do you know the names of any of them? Or constellations?”

My confidence grew a little bit. My summers laying outside in the grass playing around with the app on my phone that labeled the stars if you point your camera at the sky were finally about to pay off.

“That one is Sirius. It’s the brightest of them all.” “That’s easy to remember. That’s one of the dippers right?,” he asked, pointing up. “The big dipper, the little dipper is right there, and over there is Ursa Major, its shaped like a bear.” “That means there’s an ursa minor, right?” “Very good work detective,” I teased jokingly, pinching his cheek. He gave a giggle and winked at me. My heart skipped a beat.

“So you know a decent amount about stars?” “I know where they are and how to find them, I don’t know much past that.” “Impressive,” he said as he kissed my cheek.

We walked for a little bit towards the center of the park. He carried the basket; I had the blanket. “I’ve never heard of this place.” “I had to do a bit of research to find it.” “Any reason you chose this park in particular?” “You’ll see.” There’s that smile, after a year I still get the same fireworks when I see it. I glance over at him, and he’s already looking at me. “What are you looking at?” “My girl,” he said with a wink.

He stopped walking abruptly. He looked up at the sky, then around the park. Looking back at the car he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He put down the basket and looked through his phone for something. “Are we stopping here?” “One sec, I have to check.” “What’s the difference between here and 5 feet away?” “You’ll see, but I have to make sure we’re in the right spot.” He put his phone back in his pocket, took 8 steps forward, turned back towards me and grinned, “here.” “Fair enough,” I walked over.

He laid out the blanket, put the basket on it. I hadn’t seen him pack the basket; I actually only saw it for the first time when he picked me up today.

He opened the basket and pulled out a bottle of wine and two glasses. I sat down and started pouring. “Shit, give me one second,” and before I realized what was happening, he was running back towards the car. I took this opportunity to sneak a peak in the basket. Chocolate covered strawberries, little triangle-cut sandwiches, a little bin of grapes, some crackers- “no peaking!,” he yelled as he made his way back to me. “Too late babe.”

He was carrying four pillows and dropped them when he came over. “What are these for?” “Comfort, we might have the blanket, but it won’t be comfortable without the pillows.” “Yea, I guess I could’ve put that together.” “I mean if you had an idea of doing more, the pillows will definitely help,” another wink.

He had all the makings of a douchebag, on the surface level. He has that superiorly confident look to him. The way he walks, he doesn’t think he’s better than anyone, but that’s the vibe you get from him if you judge him solely based on looks. If you saw him on the street you might think he was the biggest fuckboy on the planet, but then you talk to him.

He’s goofy, in the best way. He’s smart. You wouldn’t think it, but he’s better at quick mental math than anyone I’ve met, and he knows geography like he’s traveled the entire world himself. He likes to talk about anything and everything. On our first date we spent an hour talking about different birds we’d both seen, and our favorites. He likes loons because they sound funny, I like bluebirds because of their beautiful color. I didn’t have much interest in birds until that conversation. Now every time I see a bluebird I think of him. My family went on vacation last month and we rented a lake house. Every morning I’d hear the loon calling and think of that smile.

“Hey you, whatcha thinking about?,” he poked my cheek, I snapped out of my zoned out state, “you.” He turned away a little but I saw the blush creeping onto his cheeks. He had pulled everything out of the basket and tossed it to the side. “Grapes?,” he offered, holding one up in front of my mouth, I opened, and he placed it in my mouth gently, like it was fragile. The sun was starting to set, that’s when I realized there were no lights around. All we had was a tiny lantern he had pulled out of the basket. The view we had of the sunset was incredible, I hadn’t kept track of time on the drive here, so I really had no idea how far outside of the city we were. “How much research did you do exactly?” “Alright to be fair I asked a buddy if he knew any romantic spots and after I got him to quit joking about sex, he gave me a few. Then I googled them and found this place.” “It’s beautiful.” “Not as beautiful as you.” “Oh hush-,” he interrupted me with a kiss.

We ate as the sun set, starting the strawberries just as the last bits of golden light dipped below the horizon. He turned on the lantern.

The glow lit up his face, he was really handsome. His skin looked so smooth and he had those long eyelashes that all guys have, it made me jealous. That smile, again. He kissed me, again. He shut the lantern off while we were kissing. He pulled the pillows over and put them behind us, he laid back and spread his arm out. I laid down and put my head on his arm.

He kissed the top of my head, “Sirius,” he pointed toward the star. “Glad you remembered,” I teased. Another wink. He pointed up again, “look.” As I glanced up, there was a light that shot across the sky. “A shooting star. I’ve never seen one,” he was staring in awe. “Make a wish.” “I don’t need to, I have you.” I rolled my eyes, “you are such a cheeseball.”

We laid there pointing out the different stars and constellations. “You’ve been studying,” I glanced up at him. “I wanted to impress you,” he stated, followed by another kiss. I’ve never seen the stars so bright and clear. “Is this why you were so stingy about the spot?” He looked down at me, “I needed to make sure the view was clear so we could see everything.” Like I said, he’s not a huge romantic, but he has his moments. We kept watching the stars in the most comfortable silence. Then, almost as if he let it slip out accidentally, he whispered, “I am so in love with you.” I waited to see if he’d say anything else, but he was quiet, a nervous quiet. “Ditto,” I giggled and glanced up at him. And, without fail, there it was again, that smile.

Okay be nice! It's my first work, and like I said- I don't consider myself to be much of a writer. I hope you guys like it, I kept thinking about the idea and wanted to give it a shot! 'Teen Titans' is very broad. lots of things that could refer to, so i'll give my opinions on all the possible ones i can think of:

Vol. 1 / Silver Age - i have read like 3 total comics from that era but love the vibes tbh

1967 Filmation shorts - THESE ARE SO FUNNY PLS WATCH THEM!!! they're like on youtube. theres so much going on

The New Teen Titans (80s) - i still need to actually read this run start to finish not just in random chunks when the mood strikes/i have a specific question im trying to answer but like, iconic

Vol. 2 (90s) - i forgot this one existed until i was just looking at all the different possible teen titans things to talk about. so. i think that says my thoughts about that

2003 Cartoon - i grew up on this one babey (like i remember watching it as new episodes came out and everything) its always gonna hold a special place in my heart and tbh was one of my first introductions to superhero stuff in general

New Teen Titans shorts - these were so cute. the who is red x one where gar insists its jason... iconic

Vol. 3 (2003) - Geoff Johns face my wrath for what you did to the core four. but um. a WILD ride from start to finish i can tell you that!!!! i shit talk this comic a lot but like it does definitely have its moments and there are some cool and interesting things it did, it just also showed a blatant disregard for previous characterization of four of its main characters which annoys the shit out of me and always will.

Tiny Titans - SHOWSTOPPING. LEGENDARY. THE ONLY COMIC EVER

Teen Titans Go! - im going to be so real with you i understand why so many ppl hate this show but its actually so fucking funny to me. i dont regularly watch it or anything but like. it is so amusing to me. every time i remember the urn marked 'Robin II' displayed next to a crowbar i lose MY MIND. or the 'NOBODY CARES ABOUT TIIIIM DRAKE'.

Vol. 4 (2011/New 52) - this comic caused me physical pain to read. nothing makes sense. none of the characters are themselves. shit is just a mess, an absolute mess. however Bunker? Miguel? I love him. best thing to come out of this damn comic.

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies - go watch this right fucking now if you haven't seen it. its literally so good even most ppl who hate ttg still will admit its good. my friend recently reminded me that when we saw it in theaters there was a part that made me laugh so hard i literally fell out of my chair

Vol. 5 (2014/Still New 52) - this one is also really bad but at least its kinda funny. definitely more pleasant to read than Vol. 4 but like its still not good or pleasant to read, i just mean that like, in comparison. the last two issues i actually genuinely like tbh (bc #23 is a standalone like, just nice team story, and then #24 is a memorial for Tim after he 'died' in Rebirth)

Justice League vs Teen Titans movie - the dcamu is a fucking fever dream but like the concept of max from wizards of waverly place voicing jaime while violet from american horror story voices raven amused me so much. also the FUCKIN UHHH MAGICAL GIRL-ESQUE TRANSFORMATION SCENE WITH DAMIAN THEN JUST TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE CAR FOR HIS SWORD IS SO FUCKING FUNNY

Teen Titans: Judas Contract movie - its the judas contract. it is what it is.

Vol. 6 (Rebirth) - i have not read too much of this one (like. ive read... chunks of it but not the whole thing) but eh. i've heard bad things about later parts of it especially and from what i've read that seems to... line up.

Titans TV show - a hot mess. superhero riverdale. i binged the first two seasons within 48 hours. very nice costumes and mostly very well cast but the writing makes me die

Tween Titans - in that one episode of dc superhero girls. im just obsessed with Dick having the thick jersey accent its so fucking funny

Teen Titans Academy - I really was not vibing with it early on but as we've actually gotten to focus on the new kids more i've liked it more, but overall its just way too bloated of a cast. having the new characters students, the previous team older students, and then the og titans as teachers is just... too much to focus on in one book. then also did not like the attempt at dick/babs/kory love triangle drama in like issue 2 get tht shit outta here

and if u meant more just the team overall like. i think the titans are cool

Prompted Idea

-Sero has a Love triangle crisis that he created upon himself because he has crushes on Denki Kaminari and Shoto Todoroki at the same time.-

Wrote this during my 8pm to 10pm night shift at work.

Word Count: 1,923]

Sero was currently rolling from side to side on a bed, holding tightly onto a pink fluffy small body pillow, letting out frustrated sighs and whines. Which other than himself, the only other person in the room that could hear him was Mina Ashido, who, after two minutes, throws one of her hair curlers at him.

"Hanta, Please! Your whining is ruining the Dojo Cat Vibes!" She says while spinning around in her vanity's chair to face him. He rolls over to face her and gives her pitiful puppy eyes.

"But Minaaaa! I am having a crisis right now! Both boys that I like are currently single, I think…but -forced laugh- not for long because Denki has been hanging out a lot with Shinso and then anytime I try to talk to Shoto, freaking Midoriya is there" he says with a glare.

"Oh hun.." Mina says while clipping in another curler in her hair before getting up and plopping down onto her bed next to Sero's head. She then begins to run her fingers through his silky soft black hair to try and calm his nerves; "Your hair's getting long love" she says; "I know, but I'm to heartbroken to do anything with it," he responses with while turning his head to look up at her. She lets out a snorted laugh;

"Hanta, have you even asked Denki if he likes Shinso? I mean Denki is literally an walking flirting machine even when he doesn't know he is," She says while leaning back against the bed's headboard. Sero then sits up to get a better look at Mina while still holding the pillow to his chest.

"Well…no but_."

"But Nothing! Just go and ask him!" Mina says, cutting him off;

"Ok yeah…but what if he says he just wants to be friends…." Sero says while looking away from Mina, biting the inside of his cheek.

Mina wears a small smile on her face noticing the light blush that forms across his face.

"Ok and you get regretted its not like its the first time it has happened," She says while sitting apple across now.

"Yeah, well this time it would be different…." Sero mumbles back while grabbing tightly onto the pillow, seeking some stability. 'Why the hell am I feeling so stressed out over something such as an high school crush, shouldn't I worry about everything but that?' Sero thinks to himself while looking down at his hands. He, however, lifts his head when he feels two warm hands on his cheeks. He now looks into Mina's eyes, whose hands are each pressed to one of his cheeks. She gave him a reassuring smile; it somehow grounded him back to reality. [Which tended to be the case for about anyone in the BakuSquard, Mina just had that motherly vibe to everyone]

"Hanta, I know your scared to ask_."

"Terrified," He says with shaky breath;

She lets out a light laugh; "Ok, Terrified, but there are plenty of other people out there you can talk to, plus Denki is a fool if he says no to you!" She says while squeezing his checks. He lets out a huffing noise before giving her a small smile that doesn't reach his eyes completely.

"And listen if Denki does end up in a relationship, again I said if…" she says with a tap of her finger to his cheeks; "you can talk to Todoroki and Sero he lives right next door to you, just gain up some courage and knock on his door," She says while squeezing his face a little harder, Sero smile wavers a bit before pulling back;

"Ok but what the hell do I even say to him? Oh hey Todoroki I have been having romantic feelings about you a lot more recently, want to go on a date with me?" He says mockingly;

Mina rolls her eyes; "Not like that you idiot!" She says while smacking his arm, "You smart ass…hmm ok lets see…" she says whole propping her chin upon her fist with her elbow resting on her knee.

Sero lets out a tired exhale before laying down on his back, staring up at the ceiling, his mind filling with many different thoughts. They both sit there in silence, with the only sound coming from Mina's phone being the start of the song "Love to Dream" by Dojo Cat, the album "Planet Her." [AN: Highly recommend].

After a few moments, Mina loudly claps her hands together and lets out a delightful squeal.

"I got a plan Hanta!"

Sero glances over towards her,

"And that plan is?" He says with a raise of an eyebrow.

Mina's eyes get bigger [If that is even humanly possible], and she wears a big grin;

"Ask him for a friendly rematch in regards to the sports festival!"

Sero quickly sits back up with his legs now spread out on Mina's bed and gives her a baffled look;

"Ok, were we we both witnessing the same sports festival? Because if I recall, a large, no sorry, a colossal iceberg being created on the battle grounds, shot up into the bleachers, and outside of the damn stadium…which I must say was pretty damn impressive…and hot…but completely freezing considering I was the one stuck in the iceberg!" He says with a shiver, remembering being trapped in the ice, but a faint smile crossed his face from having Todoroki being so close to him, unfreezing him from the ice.

Mina rolls her eyes and lets out a chuffed laugh;

"No stupid, I meant, ask to do a training session with him, considering both of your quirks are not really compatible against one another, it well help you in the future. I mean think about all of the different types of quirks we have gone up against, it allows you to be more prepared." She says with a smile;

Sero lets out a hum and sits and thinks about that idea for a moment;

"Ok….: he says while pulling one of his legs up to his chest and resting his chin on his knee;

"So that would be the plan for Todoroki…what about Denki?"

"Well first you have to see if he's even in a relationship or is trying to be one with Shinso…Oh! you can take him to that Arcade over in [some place]. I remember him talking about them installing some new video game machines."

Sero straightens up at that lifting his head;

"Oh right! I remember him talking about it, I actually wanted to check it out myself."

"Ok great, see Denki is going to be easier to see where you should go, so now back to Todoroki!" Mina says while grabbing the earlier thrown curly and wraps one of her hair strains around it while sliding off the bed;

"Ok so for the Todo plan!" She says while spinning around to face Sero;

"First order of business is to make sure, he is free this Friday after classes" [AN: It's currently Thursday]

"And if he isn't?" Sero says with a raised eyebrow;

"Then see if he's free the next day, well most likely I doubt he has any plans, well maybe other than if he still has to do that English paper for Mic-Sensei’s class that's due next week," She says while slipping on her hair bonnet.

"Ew don't remind me about that damn paper, I haven't even started it yet," Sero says with a glare;

"Which brings up plan B! If he says he's busy, bring up the paper, and ask to work on it together, therefore instead of a training day getting all sweaty, it's a study date! Wow! I'm good at this date making thing, I should be a match maker," She says with a smug smile and laughs, proud of her brilliant brain!

Sero lets out a forced laugh, still looking unconvinced.

"Ok…but what about Mido_."

"I will distract Midoriya! I could convince Bakugo to help, and he owns me anyway!" She says while plopping back down onto her bed and grabbing her cellphone off her nightstand, which is now playing "Been Like this."

"And why does Bakubro own you a favor?" Sero asks with a confused look.

"Oh I helped him get this girl to stop following him around, well I guess stake him," She says while swiping through her phone to her text messages.

"Doesn't the whole school know by now that he's with Kirishima?" He asks with a laugh;

"Well you would think so, sense they are literally always by one another…ok and done I texted him and asked," She says while holding up her phone screen for Sero to see;

"Mina… it's 10 pm at night, he's not going_" He stops talking when her phone chime goes off, and a new message pops up on her phone.

Mina: Hey Kats, I need to call in that favor your own me 😏

Katsuki: WTH Pinky! Why are you texting me at ten at night?!

Mina pulls her phone back to read the reply and begins typing out a response, while Sero moves closer and lays his head on her shoulder, reading over the messages.

Mina: Well, Sero is having a "Love Crisis."

Katsuki: Ok, and what does that have to do with me? 🙄

Mina: I need you to keep Midoriya away from Todoroki during school tomorrow

Katsuki: Soy Sauce has a thing for Half-n-Half?

Mina: How do you know it's him?

Katsuki: Why the fuck would it be Deku?!

"Harsh much," Sero says with a laugh; Mina also lets out a laugh while typing

Mina: Yeah, I guess your right, anyway! We need you to distract him long enough for Sero to talk to Todo

Katsuki: 🙄 Ok, fine! His ass better ask him before the end of the school day! I have plans, and if he messes them up, I'll kick his ass!

Mina: Message Received! 😉 Thanks, Babe!

Mina: Also, why are you still up anyway?

Katsuki: None of your damn business, Raccoon eyes 🦝! Go to bed already! We have a Trig Exam tomorrow, and your dumbasses better not fail it!

[AN: Katsuki helped the BakuSqaurd study that whole week]

"He's probably with Kiri," Sero says with a yawn and sitting up from leaning against Mina.

Mina: Thanks, Kats. Love you! 😘

"Alright plan is all set! It's all up to you now Hanta" She says while placing her phone on her charger and turns to look over at Sero.

Sero, at this point, is laying down, drifting in and out of sleep, clinging to the pillow he held from before.

"Ah that's why you didn't make any comments over there, falling while making me do all the work!" She says while playfully slapping his arm.

Sero lets out a hum but finally closes his eyes; "I'll panic in the morning… I'm sleeping in here too," he says with a yawn and squeezing the body pillow closer to him.

Mina lets out a chuckle; "Alright…." While turning off her music, "move your slickly legs," she pushes his legs onto the other side of the bed before pulling up her pink and black thrown blanket to lay over him and her.

[AN: It is summer with the AC on but doesn't everyone still sleep with some blanket].

She lays down facing him, making sure he's comfortable and pushes his hair back behind his ear while letting out a yawn;

"Night Hanta"

"Night Mina"

Ranking the six main boy/girl ships in Yu-Gi-Oh from best to worst!

Not all main girl ships are created equally, I'm afraid. Let's take a look at each ship and see what's up! (Except Sevens because as I mentioned in a previous post, I am way too far behind to comment on anything in that show.)

First up is Anzu and Yugi! And YES I do ship them! However, I don't ship Atem and Anzu. Anzu was friends with Yugi, and started to see him in a different light when Atem started showing up. However, those changing feelings also started to influence her feelings about Yugi as well. We saw that in Duelist Kingdom. Then in season 2 when she realizes they're two separate people, she gets really confused! Anzu doesn't know how to feel anymore! Then Atem and Yugi are both playing wingman for each other, so that's not helping matters. I don't really ship Atem and Anzu because Atem just doesn't seem super interested in their date. I know he had other things on his mind, but if they wanted me to ship it, now was the time to show off some chemistry and they didn't.

We saw in GX that Yugi grows up to look just like Atem and he also grows more confident over the course of the series. After the end of Duel Monsters, I think they're both too hurt by Atem's passing to be digging on each other. But, distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I feel like she's gonna come back from the states and have some heart-pounding feelings when she sees him again. And Yugi's feelings didn't change, they were just put on the back burner. So hopefully when they meet back up, sparks are gonna fly! At least, I hope so. <3

Next up is Asuka and Judai! When I watched their first duel, I was 100% on board with this ship. They were cute, they had great banter, it was a fair fight. I loved it! But over the course of the series, I started losing interest in their relationship, fast. By the end of season 2 I was pretty convinced they had abandoned Asuka x Judai for Asuka x Manjoume, and honestly, I was 100% on board with that, I love a good romcom couple and those two have dysfunctional romcom energy. Plus they had evil power couple vibes when they were running the Society of Light together, so I thought for sure they were gonna have Manjoume and Asuka be better friends post possession.

Then season 3 came a long and I was like "woah, they DID do that on purpose! I was right!" when we saw the Judai x Johan x Yubel love triangle they spent the entire season on. Asuka and Manjoume were of course relegated to background characters, as was everyone who wasn't a transfer student. And then the series ended with a pretty definitive Judai x Yubel ending and I was like "cool I like it".

But then season 4 made me question everything by making it clear that Asuka was still crushing on Judai?!?! Uhhh.... what? You haven't mentioned this crush in OVER TWO YEARS ASUKA. You've both changed so much! I thought the whole point was "she had a fleeting crush on him in year 1, but people change and so do our feelings"! I thought they had her fall out of love with him on purpose!! You're telling me the writers just wanted us to ASSUME she was still in love with him this whole time?!

I honestly love the whole "had a crush on him, now that I know him better, he's an amazing friend but I don't like him that way anymore" dynamic and they RUINED IT so bad. And for what? To say "well they fought the whole time, but now look! They can tag duel together!" Well, jokes on them, because a few episodes later Judai and Johan will show off some of the tightest teamwork in the show and I'll have to throw Asuka x Judai in the trash. </3`

Yusei x Aki!!!!!! AHHHHHH I LOVE THEM. Their first duel is very romantic in my opinion. Yusei lives to help people, and it's actually a flaw of his that he'll help people no matter the cost. Usually that's sort of a "who cares" flaw in a protagonist, but for Yusei, it adds a lot of depth to his character. The reason he helps people even at the cost of himself is because he feels enormously guilty due to his parents' involvement in Zero Reverse, and he feels like he owes the world (but especially Satellite) everything. Yusei tried to go to jail in Kiryu's stead, but failed, and I think that only compounded his guilt even more.

Then, when Yusei sees the chance to help Aki, he does it. He's scared of her, but he rallies his courage to face her so that he can help her. And it's only natural that Aki would fall hopelessly in love with him after he continually put himself at risk over and over again JUST to help her. I love the episode where she rescues him from being kidnapped and then accompanies him on a riding duel. I think it hits me harder because it reminds me of how much I want to drive a motorcycle but can't because of reasons I won't go into. But part of her desire to learn to riding duel is because she wants to feel the same things Yusei feels. And that's so cute!

Unfortunately, I do have a certain headcanon that gets in the way of my shipping desires. I won't get into the whole headcanon, but I think Yusei might have ended up time travelling back in time to fix Zero Reverse and prevent Zone's future. And Aki wouldn't have come with him because we see her in the flashforward. Yusei is still giving her strength though. And I like to think that maybe a much older Yusei was able to help a much younger Aki control her powers and not enter a cult in the new timeline. And if my headcanon isn't true, then GET MARRIED AND HAVE BABIES GUYS. <3

On the one hand, I love Kotori x Yuma. They’re so adorable! Not only is Kotori surprisingly self-aware of her crush (usually the YGO girls love to deny it) but Yuma clearly treats her differently from the rest of his friends, even though he doesn’t know why (yet). Kotori’s confession at the end of the show is SO CUTE AND ADORABLE and Yuma accepts and I love it!

But… I can’t love it as much as I WANT to love it. Kotori’s character, especially in Zexal II is kind of boring. I liked her a lot in Zexal I actually. I thought it was fine to have a character not duel as long as she was doing something else. In season 1 she occasionally gets shit done. Or she’s there for comic relief like when she’s riding the duel coaster. Or arguing with Orbital 7. It wasn’t much, but it was something. In season 2, she’s a total non-entity. I thought the duel where she gets possessed was very funny, but I almost wish that her getting possessed by a Barian was played for drama rather than laughs.

I think what could have been cool is either a) after she can hear Astral, her and Astral team up for a duel or b) when watching Yuma she started to memorize his strategies. Or both. Or neither, just get this girl something to do BESIDES watch Yuma! In the end, my love for how adorable these two are is always somewhat soured by Kotori’s squandered potential. <3

Speaking of squandered potential, Yuzu and Yuya are next on the list. I love these two A TON! I’ll be perfectly honest and admit my biases here, I am NOT the biggest fan of Arc-V. The show had a lot of problems, and I’m harsher on it than most.

But one thing I really did like about the beginning of the show was Yuzu! She was independent, driven and her dueling was getting better as the show progressed. Just like Kotori, she became a non-entity in the latter seasons. However, I ship Yuya x Yuzu more than I ship Yuma x Kotori because Yuya was always keeping Yuzu in mind during the latter seasons. So it still felt like the ship was in focus, whereas with Kotori x Yuma, the ship kind of disappeared since more important things were going on. For Yuya, nothing was more important than getting Yuzu back, so really I had no choice BUT to ship it. How could I not? It was so sweet! She was his whole world! I wish we got more scenes with the two of them together though. Them never tag dueling is a crime against humanity. Also its total BS that only Yuya and Yuzu got to come back, but whatever, I guess. I was happy that the two of them reunited and even HAPPIER that the show was finally over. <3

Last and basically least, Yusaku x Aoi. Or Playmaker x Blue Maiden. I’ll be honest, I don’t ship this at all. The show doesn’t go through any effort to get us invested in their so-called “relationship” and if I had watched this show on its own, unaware of the series’ tropes, I wouldn’t have assumed they were a “ship” at all. With Judai x Asuka, I actually liked the fake out (at least until S4 when I wondered whether or not the fake out was actually on purpose or if the writers are just morons) but with Yusaku x Aoi I get frustrated because it wouldn’t have been that hard to GIVE them some chemistry. They’re both interesting characters, and I think Aoi and Yusaku could have had an interesting dynamic if Aoi had learned Playmaker’s identity a lot sooner.

What I think the show should have done was have Aoi discover Playmaker and Soulburner’s identity at the same time they discovered each other. Then have Aqua come into the fold a lot earlier. Trios are popular in fiction for a reason, and I think Yusaku, Takeru and Aoi would have been an excellent trio. Specifically, with both Yusaku and Aoi being so reserved, their relationship would be very understated. But that’s not a bad thing. It just means that the writers would have to put more focus on the little things. Like, maybe after a while of being friends, Yusaku sits next to her in class. That would be a small thing for other people, but for those two, that’s huge! I could also see there being a fun episode where Ai tries to trick them into going on a date but fails spectacularly. The two of them end up spending time together to foil the plan. That could be really cute! LITERALLY ANYTHING is better than NOTHING.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I don’t ship this because the writers thought they could get me to ship it just by having boy meets girl and then having them shake hands over a hundred episodes later. And no. I refuse. I need a LITTLE more than that, please and thank you. </3

That was a very long post! All in all, 4/6 ain’t bad at all! Or maybe it’s more like a 3.5 since I only gave Kotori and Yuma a small heart? It doesn’t really matter, I’m a multishipper. At my heart and soul, I’ll ship anything. Like I said I don’t ship Judai and Asuka, but I totally have shippy fanart of them on my phone, lol. It’s more like… which of these ships would I defend in court and which ships do I only like because I’m trash that’ll ship anything?

Oh, I guess I did title this as a ranking... Well, I'm sure you can figure out my most and least favourites by how much I used caps lock, so it should be fine.

Give me ANY Yu-Gi-Oh ship (straight, gay or in between) and I’ll dissect it like I did these six.

“Love is such a fickle thing, y’ know?”

“How do you mean,” Shouto asked, his legs rested on your bed, his arse sat atop the floor of your Yuuei dorm, and his head slightly cocked to the side.

“One day I’m head over heels for a person, but then the next, I can barely stand the sight of them,” you sighed, sitting up from your spot on your bed.

“Well, my love for you is one thing that I’ll always be sure of,” Shouto said, looking up from his phone, his eyes meeting yours.

“Awww, Shou, I love you too,” you cooed, reaching down to ruffle his silky soft hair.

This was the platonic prison that Shouto Todoroki was trapped in. In the deepest depths of the friend zone in which he resided, and as hard as he tried to climb his way out, every attempt ended with his pride wounded and part of his heart broken.

“Maybe I should finally tell Katsuki how I feel about him,” you suggested, turning to your best friend for some of his more than well-known advice.

“Y/n, I’m all for whatever makes you happiest,” if happiest means being with me, was the part of that sentence he left out.

You looked over to the alarm clock on your desk, reading the big bright numbers that started back at you, “Jeez, it’s already twelve? Maybe you should head back to your room, it’s getting kinda late, and we don’t want Aizawa-Sensei getting his panties in a twist.”

“Yeah,” Shouto chuckled, gathering his things before standing up and walking over to the bedroom door. “Goodnight, Y/n. Sleep well, okay.”

You watched as Shouto slipped out of your room and into the hallway, and you could tell that he wanted to say something more. He always seemed so worried about your well-being, but that’s what ‘besties’ are supposed to do right...? You did your usual rounds of checking your socials and double-checking your alarm before finally turning off your phone and closing your eyes, more than ready to drift off into dreamland.

Across the dorms, Shouto was making an impromptu visit to Katsuki’s bedroom. He stood in front of his door, debating whether or not having the conversation he was thinking of was worth it. Shouto brought his hand up, bringing his fingers to the middle of his palm before striking the door once, then twice, and lastly, a third time.

From outside the room, Shouto could hear the shifting around, and angry grumbling coming from inside. When the door opened, Shouto was met with a particularly annoyed set of red eyes. “What the fuck do you want,” Katsuki asked through a yawn, resting one arm on the doorway, awaiting an answer from the half and half bastard in front of him.

“I was hoping that we could talk,” Shouto said, waiting for an invitation into the blonde’s room. Bakugou moved his arm from its relaxed spot on the doorframe, turning around to walk into his bedroom, signaling for Shouto to follow behind him.

Shouto closed the door behind him and watched as Katsuki turned on the lamp on his desk, finally letting some light into the otherwise dark bedroom, before taking a seat on his bed. Standing in front of him, dressed in his- well, your favorite pair of his pajamas, a button-up cotton top, and matching bottoms decked head to toe in multi-colored snowflakes, Shouto was finally ready to have what would prove to one of the hardest conversations of his life.

“Don’t just stand there looking like an idiot. You came here to talk about something, right? So talk,” Katsuki asked, more than ready to go back to sleep.

“I know how you feel about Y/n,” Shouto began, watching as the sleep fell from Katsuki’s face, “And I feel the same way about her. She’s planning to confess to you tomorrow, and I need you to reject her.” There was a moment of silence that couldn’t have lasted longer than a couple of seconds, but to Shouto, it felt like an eternity, and in that eternity, he could feel his whole coming crashing down around him. Three years of pining couldn’t go unrequited, he wouldn’t let that happen, and especially not because of Katsuki Bakugou.

“Why in the fuck would I do that,” Katsuki smirked, this was his chance. Katsuki had fallen in love with you the very second that you stepped foot into Yuuei High School, and three years he’s tried his best to keep his feelings to himself, in fear of losing the relationship that the two of you had built. The grin on Katsuki’s face grew wider and wider with every thought of you being his.

“Please, Bakugou,” Shouto knew his position in all of this. For three years, he watched from the outside as you fell more and more in love with Katsuki, and you, him. And every day, Shouto hated the both of you a little more. They say the line between love and hate is a fine one, and to be honest, Shouto couldn’t tell the difference between the two emotions anymore, but what he did know was that if you were going to spend the rest of your life with someone, it was going to be him.

“If Y/n wants to be with me, who am I to stop her,” Katsuki asked, standing up from his bed one last time, once again making his way to his bedroom door holding it open for the now unwelcome pest who was invading his home and preventing his beauty rest, “I’ll sleep on it.”

With that, Shouto saw himself out of Katsuki’s bedroom. When Shouto had finally made it back to his own dorm, the first thing he did was flop onto his mattress, thinking about the choices that would have to be made tomorrow. Now that his hand was being forced, Shouto had no choice but to be the one to claim you first.

The sound of birds chirping outside your window, followed by your alarm, meant that it was the start of your day. You went about your usual schedule, brushing your teeth, washing your face, and taking a shower before you made your rounds back to your bedroom so you could get dressed and look presentable for your classes. You grabbed your backpack off your desk chair and took your phone off its charger and slipped it into your skirt’s pocket before double-checking that you didn’t forget about anything and leaving your room.

As soon as you turned the corner, your face was met with a familiar broad chest. After removing your nose from in between his pecs, you looked upland greeted the red and white man with one your trademark smiles, “Good morning Shou!”

“Good morning, Y/n. How did you sleep,” Shouto asked, going about his usual ways of checking up on you.

“I have a better question, what are you doing on the girl’s side of the dorms mister,” you asked, scolding him in a playful tone, “Is it possible that the Shouto Todoroki could be a peeping tom?!”

“Maybe. There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Y/n,” Shouto joked back, but his tone didn’t exactly match the vibe. “Speaking of things you don’t know, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.”

“What’s up? You know you can tell me anything right,” you reassured him, running your hand up and down his arm to double down on your words.

“I know how you feel about Bakugou, but I can’t let you confess your feeling to him without letting you know how I feel,” all it took was that one sentence for everything to begin making sense; the double-takes he would make when you would walk down the halls, the emotion you couldn’t quite put a finger on when he would worry for you, but what should’ve been the biggest red flag was how sincere each and every ‘I love you’ that left his mouth sounded. How could you have been this dense? “Y/n, I’ve been in love with you ever since our first year here at Yuuei, and I need you to know that Bakugou isn’t the one for you because the only person capable of loving you as much as you deserve to be loved is me.”

The emotions stirring in your heart were too much to handle at once, of course you loved Shou, how the fuck could you not. Since day one, he had put you under his spell, and you’d been secretly pininng after him ever since, but you were never bold enough to be honest about how you felt. You were snapped out of your thoughts when you felt a calloused thumb begin to wipe away the tears streaming down your face. Without thinking twice, you grabbed Shou by his tie, bringing him closer and closing the gap between the two of you, “I love you too, dummy.” You felt his lips brush against yours before he leaned in even closer, deepening the kiss between you two.

On the walk from your dorms to your school, you and Shou shared your stories about how and when you fell in love with each other, and for a while, things seemed like they would be okay.

Classes seemed to be going by quicker than normal, which was always a good thing. You tried your best to pay attention to the lessons, but you couldn’t help but giggle at the butterflies you felt in your stomach every time Shouto would look over at you. And Katsuki couldn’t help but get more and more pissed every time he saw the silent interactions between you and the half and half bastard.

“Aizawa-Sensei, may I be excused,” you asked, despite the fact that you had yet to be called on, but by the squirming you were doing in your seat, he could tell that you meant business. Aizawa made sure to remind you to take a hall pass off the hooks next to the door before leaving the classroom. On your walk to the bathroom, you noticed that everything felt brighter, as if the sun had finally come out from hiding behind the clouds.

After you’d finished your business in the stall of the girl’s bathroom, you opened the door only to be startled by the sulking blonde in the corner, “Jesus fuck, what are you doing in here Suki?” He didn’t answer your question, he just stood in his spot, staring back at you. It took you a minute to notice, but you knew something was wrong when you saw that his usual docile expression was… sad.

“Y’know you’re the only person I let call me by that dumb-ass nickname,” Katsuki asked you, uncrossing his arms and pushing himself off the tiled wall. He saw you smile fall at his harsh words, but right now he was too worked up to even care, “I didn’t spend three years wrapped around your pinky and bending to your every will for you to be making googly eyes at anyone but me.”

“Katsuki-”

“No, it’s still my turn to talk,” you watched as Katsuki took a deep breath, preparing himself for the words about to leave his mouth, “I’m in love with you, and I know for a fact that you feel the same. I don’t know what’s going on between you and Todoroki, but I do know that I could make you happier than he ever could, because when I think of a person I’m meant to be with your name is the first that comes to mind.” Before you had a chance to process the emotional mess that Katsuki had dumped on you, you felt his index finger underneath your chin, forcing you to look up at him, followed by a quick touch of your lips to his.

And just as fast as the kiss had happened, Katsuki had left the bathroom. You brought your hand up to your mouth, feeling the ghost of the lips that had just touched yours, and overwhelmed with feeling and understanding the dilemma ahead of you, you dropped down to the floor, not even bothering to try and hold in your tears anymore.

The world that had felt so bright before was no longer. How could you bask in the warmth of the sun, when you could only have one?

Charmed 03x04 review SPOILERS!!!!!!

I really liked this episode so much that I actually had to be nitpicky to fill the dislike section. This episode brought back some of the very missed parts in season 1 that season 2 didn't fill. Mainly a feeling of domesticity combined with the looming danger. Season two was very much constant drama and angst. At the same time, Mel was given a relevant and very true to her character storyline that wasn't rushed unlike season 2.

The vibe felt like a good balance of season 1 and 2. I was entertained and intrigued by the promise of new lore-what is older than the oldest recorded magic?- and satisfied with the jokey/serious bits (like Macy's underfed and overhyped libido). Its a solid 8/10 (only because i save my 9 for the later episodes) because it is kinda rebooting itself again, in that we are getting a "new" magical text (the rock) there isn't anything to complain about lore/canon-wise and I am intrigued so I'll give it a solid 8/10 lore wise as well because the previous seasons set lore hasnt been contradicted so far.

I am super happy with what we've got so far. Moving on.

Dislikes

1. The new monster/threat seems more science fiction than fantasy/magic.

This is a nitpick. I am not unhappy about it but even when the OG Charmed and even Supernatural played with concepts traditionally reserved for sci-fi (parallel dimensions, alternate universes, and alien abductions for example) it still felt true to the genre of fantasy/supernatural/play on religon/etc. As soon as I saw the monster I screamed "It's an Alien!". And the end scene had me asking when Charmed became a sci-fi show. I am interested in where its going but it really was a noticeable shift in vibe so I have it in my dislikes.

2. Suffering as protest

I am not mad at it. I get it. And overall the message is that there is always cost to disrupting the status quo and we have to be willing to deal with that...... BUT, risking your emotional and mental health in abusive situations that you can get out of seems like too much. I believe that you can and should force yourself into spaces that people try to exclude you from and dealing with the reactions (usually negative) that come from that. But living with someone who is emotionally and mentally abusive is not okay. I would never tell a woman or man to continue living with someone who resents and retaliates against them for just being themselves in the hopes they will change somewhere down the line.

I do get it, I just think it is a fine line to walk. I dont think the show handled it poorly. I've seen worse, but it is important to be conscious of the possible ways it can be viewed or possibly trigger people.

3. So.....they not dead and its okay

They may explain it later which is why I didn't count it against the episode lore/cannon wise, but if they are using real names now does that mean they aren't legally dead now. Was that a magic reversal? Or they just magicked thier way passed the credentials and legal documents like last season? I give a pass since I felt the whole witchness protection program thing was underdeveloped anyways and they cam quickly resolve it was a throw away line later on. It's not a devastating contradiction to lore in the grand scheme of things.

Likes

1. The domesticity

Unlike last season the small ways they have shown the sisters routines helps to feel as if they are close and that they are a family and not just people forced together by duty, circumstance, and blood. They all felt closer to each other even with the lack of being physically close. And that's was done just by quick scenes showing how they know each others routines, how thier lives overlap, and how they interact with each other. Making breakfast, grabbing coffee for each other, walking together to the university. Little things like that made such a huge difference in my opinion.

2. Mel doing her thing!

I think what made season 1 Mel so great was that drive to help people. Not out of some idea of duty or responsibility, but out of truly being passionate about fighting with those who are oppressed and/or mistreated.

Mel was an activist both in the magical and non magical world. Season 2 Mel wasn't the same, it felt more like Mel was a prop and she was just going through the motions and just doing things out of a sense of duty which later on she seemed to resent.

I want to see Mel be passionate about saving and working with non magical people AND magical creatures. But if they reserve that for the non magical world, I won't be terribly disappointed as long as the writers continue to give Mel well written storylines and character archs.

3. Hacy

This was a good example or real couple issues and not just drama for the sake of drama. I think my biggest complaint of season 2 was that rather than focusing on realistic issues (not that miscommunication isn't a real issue) the writers threw in angsty and unnecessary tropes (love triangles and other love shapes) that they dragged put too long. You can have flawed couples facing issues without going to those extremes. I think this episode and even the last few episodes did really well with this.

Plus I love a soft hacy scene any day.

4. Maggie/panic attacks/and jordan

I love that not only are they not just dropping Maggie's panick attacks but they show her growth. Her calming herself by remembering what Jordan told her was amazing. She isn't dependent on others to "fix" her. She is using coping strategies effectively. I stan.

Also I do love that Jordan is still around.

Thomas x Steve the Pimple | Childhood friends to lovers au | Modern AU

Thomas met Steve when he was young. They were both young, childhood innocence flowing out of both of them. They quickly became friends, when they hung out it was hard to separate them. Steve always dazzled him, his fiery red hair and his soft brown eyes, his stubbornness. They were one of the most stubborn people Thomas had ever met, you could rarely get him to give something up once he put his mind to it. And if you do convince him to tends to come back to it at one point. It was both the most annoying part of them and the reason they were still friends.

Both Thomas' and Steve's families moved many times throughout their lives. Steve moved more than Thomas ever did but Thomas did his fair share of it. No matter where they both went and did nothing stopped them from being friends.

It had been a year since he's seen his best friend. Today they were supposed to meet so they could find an apartment in Florida. They could never shake eachother so the two decided to move in together to split the rent and continue being the constant in eachothers lives.

Thomas was waiting in the airport, rocking on his heels for Steve to get off the plane. People walked off with suitcases some alone and some to friends and family. Thomas leaned on his tip toes to hopefully spot the patch of red hair. The sea of heads didn't show Steve until he looked towards the side and saw a young man and oh. Steve's hair was still as red as always with brown eyes and his soft cheekbones.

Steve spotted him as well, smiling and waving. No longer frozen in his spot Thomas ran towards his friend ignoring the the thoughts in his mind Their smile was so cute though. The two meet and hugged.

"Thomas! I missed you man. How are you?"

"I'm great, super excited. How are you? You look different." Thomas pulled away.

Steve laughed, "Yeah, a year brought some growing for both of us. Look at you! You're looking great."

Thomas blushed and laughed. They began talking about everything and nothing as they left the airport ready to begin this new journey.

They got a nice apartment. Two rooms, one bath. A nice kitchen and a nice living room. It was great. Currently they were sitting on the couch watching Steven Universe. Well more like cuddling, Steve was very much someone that liked touch. Steve turned towards Thomas a little, "Hey Thomas?"

Thomas hummed in question.

"I think I might be bi. Or maybe pan, I don't know."

It wasn't a big deal. They had both come out to eachother before. For some reason something turned in his chest when Thomas heard this though. He tried to ignore it and just smiled and replied, "That's great! I'm happy for you."

Steve pulled out his stupidly sweet smile that melted Thomas everytime, "Thanks, love you man."

"I love you too."

Thomas found himself staring at his friend a few times at home. He's been looking at Steve his whole life, he doesn't know why he's taking extra time to look now. Steve was baking something in the oven while Thomas sat at the table. They had some water boiling on the stove, despite living in Florida Steve had been complaining it was too dry. Steve always like humidity, drawn to the warm vapor. A been went off and Steve pulled out oven mitts and threw a towel over his shoulder before leaning down to grab the baked goods and Oh.

Oh.

Oh no. Thomas fought the blush on his face as he realized what it was. Steve threw a smile back and Thomas melted and oh god Thomas is smitten isn't he. Of course Thomas had to go and fall in love with his childhood friend now roommate. Lord help him.

Steve was laying on Thomas, the latter tracing triangles with the formers freckles. Thry had been there for a good while, just vibing in silence. It has been a few months since Thomas came to his realization. It was terrifying. He didn't want anything to hurt what he had now but he didn't know if he could hold it in anymore. He must has been getting tense because Steve perked up, "You good Thomathy?"

Thomas hesitated. He was scared but should he be? It was Steve. He couldn't get rid of him after 30 years, would he break at a crush? Steve began to frown at his hesitation, "Hey, you know you could tell me anything right?"

Thomas tried to throw a small smile, "Yeah, yeah I know. I...actually there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about."

"Go on ahead man."

Thomas fidgeted trying to decide how to say this, "Listen I... I figured something out a little while ago and I'm kinda scared to tell you but I don't know if I can keep a secret from you anymore."

"Yeah?" Steve's brows were knit in concern.

"Well it's just.. well I like you. Like as more than a friend. In romantic way. And its totally fine if you don't feel the same way or even feel uncomfortable. Its fine if you wanna forget this conversation even happened-"

Steve noticed his rambling and took his hand, "Thomas you idiot. Its okay. Its fine. I mean its more than fine. I.." He looked down at their hands intertwined, "I didn't know you felt the same way."

Thomas' stomach did a backflip, "The same?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I've been in love with you for a while now. I didn't want to scare you and possibly loose you. God if I had known I would have asked you out in a heartbeat."

Thomas brought a water smile, "You're welcome to do it now."

Steve huffed a laugh, "Yeah, yeah. Thomas..Thomas would you make the the happiest man and be my boyfriend?"

"Yeah, yes. I would love that. I love it. I love you."

"I love you too."

Ok ok ok!!! So last night I had a dream that I rec’ed a dmbj/svsss crossover fanfic, but never actually read the fic. Then I woke up because my cat was yowling in the middle of the night.

After talking with @1ebilcat and @merinnan for a while, I managed to flesh out a basic outline of what that fic might look like. Please know that because this is a crossover with svsss, there is papapa mentioned. several times.... (nothing actually explict is described because that would make this not a not-fic)

So one day SQQ and SQH are messing around trying to figure out what this new “unique one of a kind treasure” does when SQH accideny drops some melon seeds on it or something and it suddenly activates.

Meanwhile in dmbj world, the Iron Triangle are pretty much retired from the whole tomb raiding business, but still run Wushanju (better now that wu xie actually concentrates on running it instead of running off every week). Someone comes in with a strange artifact that they found while clearing out a deceased relatives store room they want to sell. Wu xie buys it because he’s never seen anything like it before and wants to research it.

Xiaoge gets super weird vibes from the object, but it doesn’t seem overtly menacing, so he leaves wu xie be (if wu xie is preoccupied he gets in marginally less trouble). However, when xiaoge touches the object with wu xie and Pangzi nearby, it grows a point and gives xiaoge a paper cut. The blood touches the object and it activates.

One blinding flask of light and disorienting tumble latter, they find themselves at the foot of a picturesque mountain with a gate that labels them at the foot of cang qiong mountain. They’re quickly found by the cang qiong crew and everyone is super weird out by each other. Things happen and eventually LBH crashes in and says his shizun is missing mobei-jun is there too because SQH is also missing. More communication happens and everyone realizes this is the artifact’s fault. No one knows where the artifact is.

Meanwhile SQQ and SQH wake up someone completely unfamiliar to either of them. After using magic to light things up, they see that they are in a tomb absolutely covered in different depictions of penises: there’s pictures on the walls, statues of men with WAY TOO BIG penises, sooooo many dildos. Queue SQQ immediately launching himself at SQH with a shriek of outrage because “THERE’S NO WAY THIS ISN’T YOUR FAULT YOU SHITTY HACK AUTHOR!!”

Back with the iron triangle, there’s a research montage going on as they and other CQ sect member scour the libraries for any information about the mcguffin that caused all this randomness. At some point in all of this, iron triangle go to MQF to see if he can take a look at Xiaoge regarding his memory problems. After some more research, MQF learns about an herb that could stabilize his qi and stabilize the fluctuations that cause his amnesia.

Turns out that while proper cultivation doesn’t exist in dmbj world, the Zhang family line has managed to cultivate the family line to extended life but because they’re the only ones that can (maybe due to bronze gate?) it has a lot of dangers.

The herb needed is of course incredibly rare and only found in some horribly dangerous location. Xiaoge wants to go alone because he doesn’t want wu xie and pangzi to be in danger, but knows that they won’t be left behind. There’s some agnst had about how Xiaoge feels he’s brought pain and suffering to wu xie and pangzi, but of course neither of them are having any of it. The three of them talk about how they’ve never regretted meeting each other and how the adventures they’ve shared have brought meaning and joy into their lives.

The three of them cobble together some hotpot and spend the night before setting off soaking their feet side by side, content and secure in their bonds with each other. Its very sweet.

The next day, the three of them set off with LQG and LBH. Right before arriving at the location, bullshit happens and Iron Triangle get trapped in the location where the herb is located and trigger a wife plot in which papapa is the only way out. Iron triangle proceeds to have incredibly kinky marathon sex. LBH and LQG can only listen awkwardly from the boundary, not able to get through, but also not wanting to leave completely just in case something else happens. The sexual tension between LBG and LQG grows to new heights. Neither will do anything about it until SQQ is back home safe.

After the marathon is over and iron triangle has time to actually sleep, the three of them get cleaned up with the herb in tow and head back to Cang Qiong. They get the herb to MQF who tells them it will take at least a day to prepare the pill for xiaoge to take. That night, Iron triangle has sweet, tender, affirming sex because while they all agree that while xiaoge not losing his memories every few decades is for the better, it also means that he’ll have to carry the memories of wu xie and pangzi long after they’er gone, with no hope of them ever being together again. Xiaoge assures wu xie and pangzi that this is what he wants, to know that at least at some point, he loved and was loved, that he had a connection to this world and that his life has meaning beyond his obligations to the Zhang clan. Wu xie and pangzi make xiaoge promise to live on after they pass and to find him in their next lives.

Xiaoge takes the pill and the search for a way back home continues again in earnest. Eventually, LBH travels back to the demon realm and figures out how to track the artifact through space and time because his protag halo is too strong to keep him away from his love interest for too long.

Wu xie and pangzi learn some basic meditation techniques that disciples would learn when first arrive at the mountain. Its too late for them to cultivate to longevity and there’s no guarantee that its even possible in their home world to cultivate if you aren’t a Zhang. Regardless, wu xie and pangzi don’t want immortality, they just want to spend as much time as they can with xiaoge. Wu xie is gifted a flute made with special bamboo and pangzi is gifted a wine jug from Zui Xian Peak. Both have spiritual properties that may or may not be able to function when back home, but they’er good gifts given in good faith.

LBH, losing patience, forces iron triangle to get moving so he can save SQQ. He bursts through time and space and iron triangle plus LBH, MBJ, and LQG end up in dmbj world, in Wushanju. After scaring the crap out of Wang Meng, the group realizes that while several days have passed in svsss world, its only been a few hours since iron triangle was pulled away. Which is good because Ershu was likely to call in an army if wu xie went missing for no apparent reason. The whole thing would have been way too messy. Probably more than one person would have died.

What follows is a night of LBH, LQG, and MBJ attempting different divination spells to try and pin point the exact location of SQQ and SQH to varying degrees of success. None of them are good at divination. Regardless, the three of them manage to get a general location of where the two missing peak lords might be and the iron triangle gets to work searching the internet for any rumors or information of any tombs that might be in the area. (Its just wu xie and pangzi looking, but xiaoge standing around still in his beautiful borrowed robes from CQ is good moral support.)

They hear about some local legends about an ecentric noble from a bygone era that was buried in a very peculiar tomb. Potential tomb located, the whole group prepares to head out. the SVSS gang is convinced to not fly over immediately because that would be waaaaay to flashy and draw unwanted attention to them that would delay things even more. The six of them cram in together into the van and head off. Svss gang are forced into modern clothing and are def a little too big to comfortably sit in the van. LBH hits his head on a doorway at least once on this adventure. At lease two women and maybe a guy slip their numbers to him too. The man is supernaturally gorgeous.

After some more road trip shenanigans, they arrive at the rumored entrance to the tomb and head in. The tomb has a few traps here and there, but is practically child’s play for the iron triangle to get through. Svsss are appropriately impressed by their competence and LBH and LQG think specifically about how the iron triangle is a true threesome that supports each other and fights together. MBJ just wants his hamster boy back.

When they near the central chamber of the tomb, they hear the faint sounds of fighting which spurs SVSSS to speed ahead while iron triangle tries to get them to at least be a little cautious about setting off traps.

The sight that LBH sees when he breaks into the main chamber like the kool aid man is a disheveled SQQ beating SQH over the head with a baton? Kind of. Its a baton carved into the shape of a penis. SQQ immediately stops and tries to put on his “peerless immortal cultivator” mask on with a flick of his fan, but its hard for that to be effective when your hair is all over the place and your in a room covered in penises. SQH dives for his king’s thighs and cries in relief that he’s no longer trapped in a room full of dildos and penises with SQQ.

Then the iron triangle catches up and the realization that SVSSS gang is in modern clothing sinks in. The transmigrators freeze for just a second before jumping in front of iron triangle with a thousand questions. They ask in their shitty English which leaves answering the questions mostly to wu xie because pangzi’s english is pretty spotty and xiaoge doesn’t like talking in general, let alone a foreign language.

The whole group eventually leaves the tomb and all its phallic glory behind and get above ground where there’s phone service again. After a bit of searching, the transmigrators realize that while this world is very similar to their original world, there’s no signs of “Proud Immortal Demon Way” ever being written here, no other signs pointing to the two of them existing in this world. SVSS gang are very concerned as they watch SQQ and SQH talk in a strange language to these relative strangers, but don’t feel like its the time to figure out whats going on until everyone gets back home. The now expanded group makes their way back to Wushanju in an even more cramped road trip back. SQQ absolutly ends up in LBH’s lap at least once and SQH ends up with MBJ’s head in his lap at some point. its all very cute as the feeling of everyone being accounted for and safe settles in.

Maybe there’s some stuff about SQQ and SQH being transmigrators and them being tempted for all of half a second to stay in this world that is so very much like their original world but choosing to go back with their lovers and the lives they’ve made for themselves.

As the complete SVSSS gang now gets ready to head back home, the Iron triangle makes a huuuuge goody bag of all the snacks and treats that SQQ and SQH have been missing ever since they’ve transmigrated and put together a basic netbook plus solar charger for them to take back. There won’t be internet service back in SVSS world, but they loaded it up with a whooole bunch of web novels and pop songs, along with a few spare parts.

SVSSS gang finally makes their way home after having a large farewell dinner at Wushanju at Pangzi’s insistence and LBH bullies his way into helping out. Its a very sweet scene of laughing and drinking. After dinner is done, SVSSS decide to go back immediately because the time dilation thing would mean they would be away for longer than they would like.

Once back home, LBH, SQQ, and LQG have a confrontation/conversation about their relationships with each other and figure out if they want to try being all together, all three of them. MBJ confines SQH to his northern palace. Specifically their bedroom. He was also the one that remembered to grab the artifact that caused all these problems to begin with while everyone else was distracted by dildo tomb.

Iron triangle goes back to their retirement, at peace with the decisions they’ve made and the lives they’ve chosen to live.

Summer 2019 Anime Worth Watching

Summer is here, and with it brings another new season of anime! In case you’re feeling lost and want to find some new shows to pass the time, here’s some of the anime I think are worth checking out...because some really good shows tend to fly under the radar. I think there’s some genuinely interesting stuff this season, so hopefully you’ll find something you like too.

New Shows!

Given: A *cough* BL *cough* romance anime in which tsundere highschool guitarist Ritsuka Uenoyama is on the verge of losing his passion for music when he stumbles upon the sleepy-eyed Mafuyu Sato who constantly carries a guitar around that he doesn’t know how to play. Drama and musical shenanigans ensue. This was by far my most anticipated show of the season, because I happen to have read a few chapters of this manga and liked it a lot. The only reason I stopped was because I wanted to hear the music in this music oriented story...so naturally the anime makes me very happy. Not only is it sweet and cute with great animation, but it’s also hilarious. Sato is also basically a human incarnation of a lost puppy, and you just help but fall in love with him and the other characters! AND NOW WE HAVE TWO GAY MUSIC SHOWS THIS SEASON!

Dr. STONE: An action adventure anime that takes place 3,700 years in the future after the world is struck with a mysterious phenomenon that turns the entire human race to stone. Our protagonists: the genius, scientific minded Senku Ishigami and the muscle-y comic relief Taiju Oki, must find a way to rebuild civilization and turn humanity back to normal using the POWER OF SCIENCE! It’s fun, good looking, and way more interesting than I thought it would be. I’m not very attached to the main characters yet, although it’s still early. I’m mainly sticking around for the plot, the comedy, and the answers to the crazy amount of questions I have after watching the first episode!

Fire Force: An action/drama where super powered fire fighters must protect Tokyo from people who are spontaneously combusting while our hero Shinra must find out who started the fire that killed his mother. More than anything, I’d say this show is definitely worth watching for the cinematography and action because almost every second has been high flying dynamic animation that really grips you. It reminds me a lot of Soul Eater, the story and characters have a lot of potential, and you know an anime will be good when the girls have muscles too!

If it’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord: Can you tell it’s based on a light novel? A slice of life set in a fantasy world where an adventurer named Dale stumbles upon an adorable lost little girl in the woods, who happens to be branded as a criminal. So of course Dale basically adopts her and tries to find out how she came to be with him. It’s basically fantasy School Babysitters without the tragic depth to it (but there’s room for potential). Yes, this is definitely the most wholesome show of the season, but it’s to be expected considering it’s basically Japan’s latest attempt to get people to have more babies. Personally, the most interesting aspect of this show is the fact that Dale and his “daughter” can’t speak the same language. Unfortunately, the light novel ends up pulling a Bunny Drop...so I sincerely hope the anime doesn’t try the creepy romance factor. So for now, if you feel like puking up some rainbows, give this one a try.

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts: An action drama where, during a civil war, one side used “forbidden technology” to enhance their soldiers and basically turn them into badass monsters. The only problem: the soldiers who were turned start to lose their humanity and end up killing humans for the fun of it. Now our protagonist must hunt down his fellow soldiers and kill them before it’s too late. Honestly, this show has some pacing issues and can be a bit stilted in terms of its character interactions, but what kept me watching was the last 5 minutes of the first episode. I was so not prepared for the roller coaster that was the first episode’s ending, and now I’m extremely intrigued. Besides it’s made by MAPPA so I would at least give it a couple episodes to see if it’s for you.

Vinland Saga: The story of a young boy named Thorfinn’s journey to become a great warrior and while the adults deal with going to war. IT’S THE ONE WITH THE VIKINGS!!! It basically feels like a darker, grittier viking version of Moana. I’ve heard literally nothing but praise for this manga for so many years that my hopes skyrocketed as soon as I heard Wit was doing the adaption. And it has definitely lived up to the hype so far! It’s a great action historical drama to fill the void after Dororo. The only problem is no one will watch it because it’s on Amazon Prime.

Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga: A fun brightly colored historical anime about the famous warlord Nobunaga when he was a young teenager. I honestly don’t know what the tone of this anime is going to be from here on out, because it’s going to go from “fun thieving shenanigans with pretty boys” to leading people into battle, but it got me interested. I know putting Nobunaga in an anime isn’t exactly original, but this one seems like a fun ride...and it looks gay as fuck.

And I have to shout out some that haven’t premiered yet...just in case...

Try Knights: This one doesn’t come out until the end of July, but you bet your ass I’m going to be watching it because it’s an original anime about PRETTY BOYS PLAYING RUGBY! And I have a feeling it’s going to be very... different from the other resident rugby anime All Out.

Yokai Ningen BEM (Humanoid Monster BEM): Okay, this one’s not out yet either, but the trailer had a really cool vibe to it, so I’m including it anyway. It’s a remake of the 1968 anime in which a group of yokai who look like humans fight crime in the big city. If nothing else, the music is cool, and it’s made by Production I.G, so why not?

*UPDATE* The first episode finally dropped, and holy crap I’m so into this. It’s basically Durarara mixed with Psycho Pass mixed with Bungo Stray Dogs. The first episode has me completely hooked!

Next seasons and continuations!

As always there are some leftovers from the spring season that are continuing into the summer that I highly suggest!

Carole and Tuesday: The musical sci-fi anime directed by Shinichiro Watanabe wherein a rich runaway named Tuesday meets a streetwise girl named Carole, and the two decide to start a band together. Now Carole and Tuesday must rise to stardom in a world dominated by android created music. It was by far my favorite new show of the spring, and if you can find a way to watch it (because it’s still not available legally anywhere aside from Japanese Netflix apparently) I wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s got the best and most diverse music I’ve seen in an anime in a long time, an interesting setting (apparently it takes place in the Cowboy Bebop universe!?), and very well rounded fun characters. And I'm dying for a soundtrack release with all the songs!!!!

Fruits Basket 2019: Yes, the remake of the classic 2001 anime in which a girl moves in with a family who can turn into animals from the zodiac is getting a full run. And thank God because I just can’t say goodbye to it after only 12 episodes. It is so stunningly beautiful in both animation and story subjects that I don’t know what I would do without it. The characters feel so much more fleshed out, and I feel like I learn a lesson about life each week even though I already know most of what’s going to happen. If you never watched the original because thought you were too “cool” to watch a shoujo anime, give it a chance. Because if you think it’s just a generic love triangle romance show, you couldn’t be more wrong. The reboot is so good at portraying different kinds of love and how the presence of love and family can change lives AND IT’S JUST SO FREAKING GOOD!

Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba: In case you missed Ufotable’s newest project, this is a shounen anime that follows a young boy named Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko who has been possessed by a demon and their journey to turn Nezuko back to normal while fighting demons along the way. I still feel like this is a pretty basic shounen anime story wise, but I really like the characters, especially the villains. It has some of the coolest fighting/power mechanics I’ve seen in awhile, and the animation is very cool and different!

Ace of Diamond act 2: Our favorite shounen baseball anime is continuing into the summer. And I have very mixed feelings about this season so far. We are getting some fun new characters and some great scenes with the team, but the games are very...choppy and rushed. Apparently this is how it goes down in the manga, and we’re in for some good Sawamura development...but it’s still touch and go for me personally.

That’s it for now. Most of these are available on Crunchyroll, except Vinland Saga, Carole and Tuesday, and Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga. Since Try Knights and Yokai Ningen BEM aren’t out yet, I don’t know where they will be available legally.

god am i gonna need to go with the sequals too? just og or all ships that’re considered canon by the end? whatever i’ll just go in order in what might be the ‘canon’ ships from all three of these categories. this is gonna be fucking long so anything and everything is under the cut. also i’m SO not gonna add hiveswap that can be its own separate ask. so:

roxygen: it’s a cute ship...but the sequal vers is garbage considering how inconsiderate roxy is to john’s feelings and his house burning down like damn rox this is the guy who sat with ya as ya mourned doom rose’s death give the guy some fuckin time himself.

rosemary: also cute ship...sequal versions are fuckin godawful tho. their barely a thing in meat from wha i can gather and then there’s candy...oh CANDY kanaya deserves better fuck this sense of her sayin she’s over it idc if it was off screen, even then half the cast ate stupid pills during that time so WHY must i be surprised that this is wha happens?

dave/kat: i dun like it. in either universe. meat is just perfect gay bois who have occasional deep talks and literally do nothing else while candy they split up thanks to jade which, geez ya guys must’ve been shit to tell her to fuck off like come on. og hs wise i barely consider them canon if we only get pictures and them just being on equal footing on quadrant talk. not to mention dave implied to be crushing on jade and JOHN not karkat, idk where this couple even came from other then love triangle situation with terezi but like, that’s barely much of a reason to become canon. i’d go with em bein pale/moirails more.

jadedave: i’m guessing candy and meat i thought meat implied they were dating but may aswell. so....it sucks but thats because candy and meat suck, meat dave’s basically cheating on her i didnt hear any implication they broke up and she’s like...chill??? and then there’s candy where she literally forced him and kar to break up and dated after dirk apparently died, i do not like the implications of this whole thing. course candy dave is dead and a robot now so...anyways canon wise dave had a crush on her and if jade does like him i’d hope it’s not cause of davesprite cause despite both being dave’s they were different. it’s cute otherwise.

davepetajade: it’s...cute? i guess? idk i kinda found davepeta a bit...idk overwhelmingly overrated? like i know where their popularity came from but readin the series now after all that hype i dont really see it anyways tho it’s basically davespritejade with nepeta in the mix. and idk nothin implied much of nepeta liking jade, or talkin to her much. and davepetasprite is a mesh of both so idk. it’s a ship with cute fanon works of em hanging with outfits but that’s bout it.

janejake: i hate it. legit. this is disgusting and completely throws out jane’s character. like even in the fixed timeline the talk she had with dirk probably still happened on the god bed’s and how she acknowledged wha she thought was wrong on wantin jake’s kids and so on trickster still happened and how she also realized she might’ve overhyped jake. but lets throw it ALL out the window to force jake in an unhappy marriage in both universes and possibly force him to stay in candy due to having tavvy if i’m reading the implications right. even then jake isn’t good for jane either both got their own needs this ship would’ve been sunked in canon and WAS but the sequals are beyond it so maybe that explains it but it disgusts me.

roseterezi: guess in meat specifically. yeah i kinda dont...care for it, like i still cant tell if rose and kanaya broke up or if she just fucked off without breaking up either one is fucked up on kan’s behalf. even then i just dont care for their kismesis it got brought up once and that was it.

jaderose: candy wise i guess even tho it was a fling. it disgusts me still mostly because of kan’s behalf on bein fucked over and both goin through a ‘surrogation’ process without her notice. like fuck this shit the jaderose fans deserve better.

roxycallie: idk if this one’s canon but it’s heavily implied callie lives with roxy least in candy. it’s cute, cant deny it even in og it was pretty cute, dont really care for candy vers tho but then again maybe their not a couple in it idk what’s canon couples anymore.

johnterezi: literally fucked in meat universe and john has kismesis feelings for her in canon. it’s...interesting, idk tho i feel like it’s one sided on john’s side.

ms paint/spade slick: i cant deny it’s cute, he’d least know how to treat a lady but god i’d hope it wouldnt be his only defining trait with her. also want ms paint to call his bullshit out pls and thanks.

dirkjake: honestly i cant tell if their STILL canon in og or not god forbid the sequals. in general though...i dont. i honestly dont really like em together much. they seem like the type to least stay friends but idk bout another relationship would be a good idea for em. maybe later down the line but otherwise canon wise they need a break.

and now for the canon one timer ships this involves any ships implied, uncomfirmed, ex-relationships, crushes, etc:

arasol: it’s cute, best ship. their quadrant was never confirmed but regardless their cute. sol tho in the sequals deserved better then to get abandoned by aradia goddamn.

fefsol: also cute, i live for both of em bein ass’s together.

erisol: oh boi this one...this was...yeah i cant even deny they wouldnt be too healthy, i like lookin at fanon ways tho for em. canon wise tho yeaaaah no these guys definietly wouldnt work.

gamtav: it’s...cute but boi gamzee needs some help i think.

gamsol: -sollux did imply he either wanted a kismesis or matesprit with him in one of the flashes- again same as gamtav.

vristerezi: i am HIGHLY doubtful this is canon considering everything but i guess i gotta cement this. i dont see em as canon in og or sequal wise since vris is still gone in both, even then i dont like, see it, i see it but idk man i like em more pale then pail.

My Review of O Maidens in Your Savage Season

How did I get into this anime? This time, I didn’t rely on the randomizer to pick out a random anime licensed by Sentai Filmworks. I wanted to choose a small-sized anime with not that many episodes to its name. Probably because I spent a good year and a half on Rinne that all of these Sentai picks have been short series! So I went with one that came out not too long ago.

Kazusa Onodera belongs to the literature club at her school. Seems decent enough, right? These girls read heavily, sexualized books. And as high schoolers, the word sex is taboo and intriguing all at the same time. Each of the girls in the literature club have their own view on the subject, mostly border-lining on wanting to know more and experiencing it soon. Aside from that, Kazusa is noticing that her childhood friend, Izumi Norimoto has changed since they were kids and other girls are noticing him. This, putting Kazusa in an awkward position of avoiding him when he’s around other girls! Half of it is because jealous bitches glare at her if she gets too close to Izumi. The other half is due to the fact that Kazusa is starting to notice her friend as maybe something more.

One day, the girls in the club get word of one of their favorite authors writing a new book. This one about someone writing a bucket list due to dying! One of the girls (Niina Sugawara) suggests sex. Ever since then, all of the other girls are noticing so many new things in their world. Certain words sound dirty, certain objects can be considered phallic, and boys are starting to look fuckable. And our girl Kazusa gets a heavy dose of reality when she gives her neighbor Izumi some dinner.

She walks upstairs to find Izumi jerking off to some hardcore porn on his computer.

So yeah, coming of age story up in here!

But it isn’t just Kazusa learning about the trials of love and sex. Momoko deals with her own troubles involving sexuality. Sugawara is torn between a past love and a new love. Rika is discovering love for the first time in her life. And Hongo wants to learn more about sex in order to become a great author. All five of these girls deal with that difficult time of adolescence with first love and the curiosity of “ess eee ex”.

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: This is licensed by Sentai Filmworks. As of this date and time, an English cast has been announced, but by the looks of things, nothing has been dubbed yet. I am a little excited to hear several new voices in the cast and a few familiar ones including Brittney Karbowski and Natalie Rial. Many of the Japanese voice actors have been around for a while and I’m kinda familiar with. It’s just that I haven’t spent a great deal hearing them in my day-to-day rotations. But I can’t complain with the cast! Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

JAPANESE CAST: *Kazusa is played by Hiyori Kouno (known for Phil on The Promised Neverland)

*Momoko is played by Momo Asakura (known for Ayumi on Charlotte, Iroha on Magia Record, Sumi on Sakura Trick, Manako on Monster Musume, Nagisa on Kaguya-sama, and Lamy on Fairy Tail)

*Rika is played by Sumire Uesaka (known for Dekomori on Chuunibyo, Nanase on In/Spectre, and Anastasia on Idolm@ster: Cinderella Girls)

*Sugawara is played by Chika Anzai (known for Mina on Attack on Titan, Nana on My Roommate is a Cat, Maki on Sakura Quest, and Young Kamui on Gintama)

It goes without saying that I hated this fucker. I heavily enjoyed him getting knocked the fuck out. And I will go in further detail with the shipping category.

SHIPPING: As this is a coming of age anime with girls in high school just discovering love, lust, sex, and all that good shit, we’ve got some stuff to cover in this category.

*Kazusa x Izumi: The childhood friend scenario! Yeah, these two were quite inseparable as children, but as they grew older, Izumi started to grow somewhat of a popularity streak with the girls at school and as a result, Kazusa found herself inferior compared to these catty bitches. That and these girls are jealous if they see Kazusa even speaking to Izumi.

Throughout the series, Kazusa had to deal with jealous bitches telling her to back off and Kazusa’s friend Sugawara having growing feelings for Izumi every time she’s with him. It seemed like not a big deal in the earlier episodes. But once we see what Sugawara is getting back at, it gets downright love-triangle-ish. It got so crazy that both girls proclaimed their love for Izumi in an open setting during a school festival at the same time. I know Izumi wasn’t going to reciprocate Sugawara’s feelings, but when he started saying things that are friend-zone material, I got worried. I mean, Kazusa and Izumi were childhood friends and there’s been a strain in that due to hormonal changes. I don’t want to bring out the tired old excuse of Izumi being a boy and he’s a dumbass, but I kinda have to. Yes dude likes Kazusa, but he also likes Sugawara and both for different reasons. And when it comes to Sugawara, it’s a sexual attraction. Boy, you are not going to get your cake and pie here.

Now I’ve been in Kazusa’s position before of wanting to be in a relationship with a best friend. A lot of the time, it does not go well and can strain the friendship you once had making it hard to go back if there’s a crap-up. By the looks of things at the end of the anime, these two seem to be on a sure-footing in their relationship.

*Rika x Shun: Rika has always been seen as an outsider to many of the main cliques of school. But it wasn’t until Shun’s kind words in class one day that changed something inside of Rika. But it doesn’t stop there with this boy! He writes fifty pages of “I Love Yous”, he insists on wanting to be with Rika in any class activity, and goes out of his way to ask her out (which she eventually accepts). And Rika with these new feelings doesn’t really know how to handle it as this is the first time she’s experienced these feelings outside of reading them in a novel. But I gotta say, their confession in front of the school was just downright too cute for words. It definitely deserves a round of applause.

*Hongo x Milo-sensei: Oh dear God, not this again! I don’t know whether to think Hongo is just using this guy for her novel or if she’s really developing something for her teacher. Milo-sensei seems to have a thing for his teaching colleague. But does this fool have a side-thing for one of his students as well? I’m getting Marmalade Boy and Domestic Girlfriend vibes here. These two go beyond a lot of boundaries throughout the series including panty flashes and a spontaneous trip to a motel. This ship I’m not fully on board with! But this is still leaps and bound ahead of what I’m about to discuss next.

*Sugawara x Saegusa: Oh for fuck’s sake! Everything about this sounds so wrong, Domestic Girlfriend is demanding an apology for all the bad things said about that. Even Izumi finds this guy pedophilish. An old acting coach has a thing for little girls and finds Sugawara pure when she’s at a young age and Sugawara eventually grows to like him. It’s just that when she figured it out, she’s a young teenager in high school and according to Saegusa, she’s too old.

Too old?! Fool! You are clearly in your late 40s at the earliest. And Sugawara is at least 14 and SHE’S TOO OLD?! I’m about to slap the glasses off your dumbass-face and call Chris Hansen because this is too much. Sugawara, please for the love of all that’s cream pie, stop going after this creep and making him jealous with trying to get with Izumi! You CAN do better! And also, you’re really fucking with the Izumi x Kazusa ship. But more importantly, you CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS CREEPY FUCK!

And now it’s time to talk about Momoko. I thought that this anime was going to be all about these girls falling in love with different boys. At first, it looked like that with a boy named Satoshi coming in the picture saying he remembers Momoko when they were kids. But then, we get a surprise from Momoko when she finds girls more attractive (particularly Sugawara). Okay, I didn’t see that coming. And frankly, I’d prefer that or just about anything else to that old-ass actor with a little girl complex. But with Momoko, I feel like she’s going to be the one character that doesn’t get to be with someone in the end. Kazusa gets Izumi, Rika gets Shun, and Hongo gets Milo-sensei. Momoko does come out to Sugawara, but I’m unsure if this is one-sided or if Sugawara ends up together with her.

ENDING: All five girls are learning that love and sex come with a mixed bag of everything. Sometimes everything works out, sometimes things fall apart, sometimes actions have consequences, and sometimes a dick comes in and ruins everything.

Because of the blooming relationship of Kazusa and Izumi, Sugawara got jealous and did some risqué things on a train with Izumi. Hongo takes things to another level when she goes to a cheap hotel with Milo-sensei and she was ready to take the bull by the horns. Yeah, she was doing most of this for her novel, but this escalated into full-blown infatuation of her teacher. And Rika was feeling pretty good around school now that she has a boyfriend and is on speaking terms with one of the popular girls. Too bad Rika’s friend is never coming back to school because she’s knocked up! See, consequences!

The high school administration was upset by some recent incidents including a student getting pregnant. But what set them over the edge were reports of Rika and Shun outside of a love hotel. But as we all know, they did no act of sex. They were spying on Hongo and Milo-sensei. But you can’t tell these prudes that. They made an example of Rika and Shun by expelling them and putting out an updated P.D.A. rule at school. Not even Milo-sensei confessing to being at the love hotel could calm this storm with the heads of the school. So the girls of the literature club decide to take drastic measures.

They shut the school down, hold Milo-sensei hostage, and demand that Rika and Shun are reinstated at school. I wasn’t expecting this anime to go down the route of The Simpson’s classic episode Grade School Confidential, but here we are.

Yeah, the principal and vice principal had a Groundskeeper Willie attitude to their fight and left them to cool down for the night. This night in the school things kinda went a little crazy, particularly when Shun and Izumi came inside. Especially when you have Izumi admit that he likes Kazusa, but is sexually attracted to Sugawara. Then, you have Momoko irritated that all Sugawara is interested in is Izumi and she’s got this huge crush on her. Add to the thick layer we got already, Shun opens is dumbass mouth to mention he has kissed girls before Rika. Oh, dude. Shut up! But the girls found a way to fix things…sorta! A few episodes back, the girls had a pillow fight to let out their frustration. So, they’re going to play a simple game where there seems to be a happy conclusion for all involved. Rika and Shun share a cute forehead kiss and Shun admits his love for Rika once more. Momoko and Sugawara share a moment. As for Izumi and Kazusa, they both admitted to feeling anxious and uncomfortable jumping from friends to boyfriend/girlfriend. So it looks like they’re going to stay together. Sure looks like it in the epilogue. But we’ll get there soon enough.

After a full night of revelations, the principal and vice principal return to school the following morning to the entire building covered in protest paper to reinstate Rika and Shun and to get rid of the P.D.A. ban. I guess things worked out since a lot of students saw this and the principal is about as useless as a Band-Aid on a toothache.

At the end of the episode, we see the cast from what looks to be one year later as Rika and Shun are in college now. Rika’s friend and former classmate had her baby. Milo-sensei and Hongo are holding down the literature club with a few new members. It also looks as though they’re still in a relationship (possibly getting married later). I am unsure if Momoko and Sugawara ended up together or not. But at least they’re still friends. And it seems as though Izumi and Kazusa made it through that awkward time of adolescence and they seemed to have stayed together.

This was a fun romp! I think we all remember a time in high school where we were young and naïve about the concept of love and even sex. I can’t say there was one particular character I connected to in this series. I think I’ve been in all of the girl’s positions at one point or another. I’ve been friend-zoned like Kazusa. There was a boy I wasn’t into that wouldn’t leave me alone like Momoko. I was curious to a point where it did affect my own writing like Hongo. I had jealous fits over a friend’s boyfriend much like Sugawara. And once I got in a relationship, I felt as awkward as Rika. See, I’ve been all five at one point.

It’s a confusing time being an adolescent. Along with the changes in your body, there’s that gnawing pressure of noticing blossoming feelings for some person. And you’re not sure if you should talk to them, kiss them, or rip off their clothes in the heat of passion. Not sure if everything from the manga was covered. I’d like to assume it was due to the fact that both the anime series and manga were short. And I think all viewers can agree that…Can we see that gross dude get punched again?

Oh yeah, that’s so delicious.

Been thinking about jealousy dynamics in romances, and love triangles, particularly after skimming some Turkish dramas lately. Under the cut because it’s just a lot of word vomit.

I know that at least for a time jealousy/love triangles were quite Out of Fashion in the drama fandom, but I have always loved those tropes in romance stories. The problem of course is where possessiveness overlaps with jealousy, but at its worst its when possessiveness replaces jealousy.... Jealousy and possessiveness are genuinely not the same. Jealousy at its best reveals insecurity/lack of confidence or a personal need/desire for a type of love or love language not yet shared or received. It’s seeing the other share something with someone else and realizing you also want that, or that you need more (stability, security, connection) than you have. Possessiveness/anger are ways that some characters (and people) express jealousy, but as a deeply jealous person myself, I definitely vibe with jealousy as a revelation in romance stories, as an important part of the all-important Pining.

It’s part of why I loved the jealousy dynamics in The Story of Minglan... even though there weren’t really any. Tingye really wanted Minglan to have this revelation that she needed his love and attention... And he didn’t really recongize that the problem was that she trusted him already to give her what she needed/wanted (because he was so Good). When she eventually did start casting about for information about a past relationship, it was almost out of interest for what he liked about that relationship (since Tingye found her so frustrating, and she mostly just wanted to be a good partner).

I also really enjoyed the jealousy dynamics in Fight My Way, because it was two people who were really jealous that they couldn’t be “that” person for each other, and taking the long way round to realizing they could be. Like Ae-ra being heartbroken that Dongman always went to Hyeran, and always comforted her first and looked to be comforted by her, but it’s actually clear that Dongman’s treatment of Ae-ra isn’t so different. And Dongman not believing Moobin will treat Ae-ra right, but being frustrated that he can’t provide for Ae-ra and so it’s not exactly his place to do anything about it. The whole “why did you kiss her if it’s not your first day of dating?” was PEAK excellent jealousy dynamics... They were both very petty and sometimes possessive but possession of one another was not actually their goal.

Writers often confuse possessiveness with jealousy, though. I don’t ALWAYS hate possessiveness when it’s mild and tied other things (like, I greatly appreciate when someone has legitimate reasons to feel that they have duty to protect another person, especially if it’s not for some kind of personal romantic gain), but if someone (usually a man) feels possessive of another person (usually a woman), without any evidence that they actually like/care for the other person? When their possessiveness is about the rival and winning against the rival, rather than trying to win over and care for the romantic partner? That’s when it becomes an issue of property, rather than emotions, and it’s unpleasant and scary.
