Common Sense Kings Headcanons

(Angst-free only.)

As a Whole:

"Common Sense" is a lie. They share one braincell and Kan keeps it in the confiscated phones drawer. (He hasn't trusted them since the Incident. No, I will not elaborate.)

They're all great swimmers, except Tsuburaba. The kanji in Awase's name all relate to water — bubbles, rapids, ocean, and snow; Kaibara is definitely the type to use his Quirk as a boost (and it just seems helpful in general); and for Rin, Chinese dragons are associated with water, unlike Western ones. Tsuburaba, meanwhile, is mostly associated with air.

Video game nights usually end in disaster. That's why they mostly play Mario Kart, the least rage-inducing game ever.

Awase:

Sometimes, he Welds together little mixed media sculptures. Metal bits, googly eyes, Rin's scales, that sort of thing. He isn't very good at it, but then, he doesn't have to be. It sparks joy.

Also decent with mechanics. He, Yaoyorozu, and Hatsume would make a great team.

Has a lot of scars from all the dumb shit he's done over the years — and he's proud of every single one of them. Even the dumbest ones. It inadvertently helps some of his friends feel better about their own.

Cheats at origami.

Kaibara:

Loves green tea. This is based on two puns: Sencha (煎茶), the most popular green tea in Japan, and chasen (茶筅), the bamboo whisk used to make matcha. (There are so many puns you can make on the name Sen, it's great.)

The best dancer of the four — or, the only good dancer. The other three suck.

A contortionist in every way except professionally, with no qualms about showing it off. He's got the most fucked-up joints you've ever seen. He can even turn his head around like an owl. Fear him. (Seriously, look up contortionists, they're awesome.)

Tsuburaba:

Has the spice tolerance of a wet chicken nugget. You could kill him with a singular Dorito. The other three refuse to let him live this down.

Obsessed with practical effects in movies and plays. Props, clever set design, you name it. He's even experimented with using his Solid Air for something similar, though he hasn't done it in a while. In a movie production AU, he'd definitely be in charge of that.

When Kan doesn't have it, Tsuburaba holds the braincell. He's objectively a terrible choice, yes, but process of elimination rules. And yes, this is because of the Incident.

Rin:

Many thoughts, head still empty for some reason.

His favorite animal is the koi fish.

Almost won the class representative election purely by promising to teach the class Mandarin swear words. Kan was not happy.

Can and will make up a bullshit idiom. What are you gonna do about it? Fact-check him? Take your phone out and Google it? In front of the teacher?

Six windows. Two doors.

The windows are covered in metal, so there’s no way out through there. The doors are locked tight with a key needed for entry or exit. A potential escape lies there.

You’d known Kaibara had started to lose it but, really, this was too much.

You were on edge from the first time he approached you, trying to act cool and show off his “amazing” quirk that was worthy of being in the hero course. To be honest, you didn’t care in the slightest what course he had wormed his way into, hero-in-training or not, you didn’t trust him as far as you could throw him. And since you didn’t have a strength-enhancing quirk, that wasn’t very far.

As time went on, the Class B student had grown more and more obsessive and unhinged. He’d begun to follow you around and compliment you frequently. He began to act threateningly towards your male friends and it began to tick you off very quickly.

But more than that, you hated the way he looked at you. Somehow, you knew, Kaibara Sen was dangerous. In what way, you weren’t sure, but you didn’t want to find out.

You’d taken to wearing spherical earrings and encasing a tiny voice recorder inside, uploading your auditory surroundings to your laptop at home every few minutes. If you could just get out of here, Kaibara would be screwed. He’d incriminated himself thoroughly over and over again.

“Why did you kidnap me?” You’d asked as loudly and clearly as possible.

And he’d answered, like the fool he was about to become, “Because I love you!”

The police would eat that up once you were free.

It had taken only a couple of days to convince him you were in pain whenever you wore ropes or chains. Whenever you could hear his footsteps, you’d quickly rub or scratch at the place where the chains or ropes held you to make it bright red. 

“Something’s wrong!” You’d wailed, “It hurts so much, Kaibara…”

He had let you free soon enough. 

Now, all that was left was to get the keys and get out of here. There was Plan A, where no one got hurt or, if that didn’t work, Plan B. Plan B was a lot more violent and unpredictable, but hopefully you wouldn’t have to resort to that.

You waited until he finally approached your door, heart pounding in your ears as you mentally went over your plan once more. Kaibara carried a tray of food into your room, awkwardly fighting with the door to get inside your room.

 Immediately you went up to him and wrapped your arms around him in a big hug. Kaibara was so surprised that he dropped the tray of food he’d been holding, a blush creeping up his cheeks.

You pulled him closer, hands roaming his back as your searched for the keychain you knew would be hanging out of his pocket tantalizingly like it always did. Jackpot. Your fingers brushed against cold metal and you seized both your chance and the keys.

You engulfed the keys in your fist, hiding it from view as you pretended to grow dizzy, taking a shaky step back from him and collapsing on the bed in a boneless heap. Kaibara let out a horrified gasp, quickly bending over you, trying to figure out what was wrong.

In his worry, there was no way he’d notice you grabbing your old chain until it was clicking in place around his wrist. Maybe the horrified, betrayed expression should have filled you with guilt, but you only felt glee.

“Now you get to rot in this room alone until the day you die, just like you had planned for me,” you reasoned.

“But I brought you food! I’ll starve to death here!”

You shrugged and left him behind, a bounce in your step as you used the keys to unlock the house and began to head to where you hoped a police station would be, or at least people to help.

Maybe Kaibara’s death would be on your hands if you didn’t tell the police where you’d been held captive right away. If you pretended that you couldn’t remember at first. Maybe the starvation or dehydration would be slow and painful.

You could live with that.

ended up checking this blog by chance (woah. its been so long) and its a bit late but I made this list for u (sorry if its unrefined or kinda silly! not as into the series as i used to be)

-Stims with his quirk a lot, of course. sometimes he overdoes it but usually he's fine

-When he gets excited he doesn't always really show it on his face, but you can tell from the way he easily slips into spinning his hands/fingers or is eager to participate

-Side effect of his quirk is that he has sensitive skin, so he can get overstimulated by touch reaaally easily. This doesn't really stop him from being affectionate with his friends, but he does reach a limit pretty fast

-He has a hard time looking at people's faces in person and taking pictures helps him recognize people better. Also, it's just nice to have fun memories of his friends and loved ones

-Was so bummed that he got in the zone while fighting Ojiro and was interrupted by someone else. He gets it but he was so focused and his mood really fell after that

-I don't actually know if he could hear Vlad King's commentary while he was in the mock jail, but if he did it really helped

-The jacket part of his hero costume is weighted a bit. Not super practical, but it helps him relax

-He's honestly not a huuuge fan of the part of his hero costume around his neck because of the way it feels, but it's a form of protection. He'd readily accept a good alternative

-Sparring/physically fighting/training is a really good outlet for him and he uses it to calm down a lot
