☾ sfw. kita misses you while you sleep. 1.2k
Tumblr media
kita has always been used to waking up early.
since he was a child it was always kita’s way to have a productive start to his mornings, waking up as early as 5am to start his routines. that habit of waking up at absurd hours of the morning proved useful as it carried into adulthood, and today he wakes up early every morning to tend to his farm.
he enjoys the serenity in those hours, the peace the dawn brings. he can focus solely on himself, he can work as slowly or as quickly as he pleases, and this is just the way things have always been.
it wasn't unusual for this habit of his to start rubbing off on you over the years. he’d never want to disturb your sleep, and he takes extra care in moving carefully around the house as he gets ready to start his chores so as to not wake you. but sometimes you’d follow short of him when you’d no longer feel his body heat or gentle breathing beside you. he’d urge you to go back to bed, but you’d insist on starting the day alongside him.
and so kita’s mornings became all the more meaningful and beloved as he gets to enjoy the serenity with you not far from him. at first, he thinks that his routines may be disrupted with you awake, but you only served him more comfort and more joy and proved to be a helpful presence instead of an intrusive one.
early mornings with you were great. getting dressed together, making small talk over breakfast, watching the sun rise…
as kita slowly rose up from your shared bed, he looked over his shoulder at you hugging the duvet close around your shoulders. he smiled at the sight and let his gaze linger on your figure before getting up with a stretch, headeding toward the bathroom to start the day.
even though kita’s sleeping habits have rubbed off on you, you still tended to wake up a while after him, and kita usually takes the bit of extra time to start preparing breakfast. each meal was prepped with the utmost care and consideration for the day. something light? something quick to make? or perhaps something new just to have an eventful start to your morning.
but as he was finishing up, he realized that in the still of his home, he hasn’t heard any noise from your room.
heading to investigate, he took notice of you still laying cozied in your bed, curled up and completely gone from the rest of the world. kita’s eyebrows turned upward with a sympathetic look as he sighed.
your work from last night took you into the early morning, far after kita had already retreated to bed himself. you must’ve been exhausted, catching up on the couple of hours you sacrificed the morning earlier. no matter. kita would continue on with his chores as he always did.
setting aside your meal for when you woke, he proceeded on with his regular routine; checking the weather, getting dressed. usually he’d be mumbling with you as he did so, but as he occasionally looked over at your sleeping figure, he knew it’d be best to let you rest for a while longer.
but something about your one time absence threw kita for a loop. he still took pleasure in watering the plants around his home, in eating the food he made himself, in tidying up some small messes. but he also felt your absence in all of these things, missing watching you slowly feed yourself, missing you in the mirror beside him as he brushed his teeth and rinsed the sleep out of his face, missing a comment or two about his messy hair and having you ruffle it up some more before gently combing through it with your fingers.
he eyed you as he cleaned up your bedside table that had become clustered as you worked last night, and again as he slipped into his boots and coat. subconsciously, he’s trying to find any sign of sleeping wearing off you with each glance into your room, but you only ever shifted slightly to sink further into your pillow.
even though he’d be robbed of your presence as he worked outside, he’d at least have the morning sun to keep him company, and he stood outside basking in the sun's first early morning rays as he worked.
some time went by and as kita finished up his morning chores outside, he found himself giddy as he thought of seeing you up at the kitchen table. to think that he’d miss your presence so much- it was only one morning!
he put away his outdoor gear and glanced over at the kitchen, a small frown morphing onto his face when he realizes nothing has been touched. he slowly makes his way toward your shared bedroom to find the sheets a jumble, a result of you detangling yourself from them…
only to find you still sleeping away.
kita deflates a little at the sight. of course, he wants nothing more than for you to get your rest. rest is healthy, it’s what you need to function throughout the day. but kita also misses you.
he thinks back to a time when he used to handle all his morning chores by himself and wonders how he ever managed them without you as he ponders what to do with himself next. it feels like such a time never existed, and it’s hard for him to think of how to occupy himself.
he settles onto the couch with his laptop and phone and decides to catch up with some friends and respond to some emails. he turns on the TV and makes sure the news isn’t too loud (but also loud enough) and uses it as white noise for his work. every couple of minutes he glances at the time in the bottom right of his screen.
ten minutes. twenty. thirty. his eyes glance over to the kitchen entrance before quickly looking away. he’s getting antsy, he realizes. his mind keeps wandering off, something just not quite right. he tries to focus on his work for another ten minutes. another twenty. and eventually he sets aside his laptop, turns off the TV and makes a beeline for your room.
he would never normally do something such as this. being with you has led him to compromise, he thinks, because only you would be able to break him apart from his usual routine to join you in bed even after he had woken up.
kita changes back into his night wear and slowly slips back under your shared cover, moving closer and closer to you until he’s hugging you to his chest, an arm around your waist and another under your pillow. his head meets your back, and the sudden pressure has you stirring awake a little. he hears you squirm around and his heart starts to pick up speed as he hears you mumble out for him.
“shin?”
“i’m here.”
he moves his head so it’s resting in the crook of your neck, and you turn on your back to throw your arm behind his neck, your free hand cradling his head and slowly carding through his tufts of hair. he immediately relaxes further against you and into the bed, closing his eyes in satisfaction.
“shouldn’t you be up?”
“i finished all my chores. i came to join you.”
because kita can’t imagine doing anything else in that moment but enjoy the rest of the morning in your arms.

prompt 5 + kita shinsuke
send me a number or a prompt and character and i'll write you a thing
100% love (05. love as one of the dead languages)
kita shinsuke; 3,086 words; just fluff, bc i rewatched the inarizaki match and caught feels during the kita ep LOL
the first time you meet him, it’s in detention, though you can’t for the life of you figure out why he’s here — after school, cleaning the classroom when he doesn’t have to be.
“wait — what do you mean, you didn’t get in trouble?” you blink at him, your arms propped on your mop handle, watching as he methodically dips his own mop into the water, pulls it against the strainer, and then sets it to the floor again, dragging it through in strong, solid motions.
“exactly what i mean. i didn’t get in trouble.” kita barely looks up as he redips his mop, strains, mops. dip, strain, mop.
“so… you’re here because you want to clean up the classrooms?”
“yes.”
you bite your lips, chewing on them as you watch him work his slow way across one half of the classroom.
“if you want to leave, you can,” he says it so simply, so matter-of-factly, with no resentment or any hint of ulterior motive, “i’ll take care of it.”
but something about that digs itself into your lower belly and twists, and later, atsumu might tell you that’s what a gut feeling is, so you huff, shove your mop into your water bucket a bit too hard, splashing the floor even as you pull your mop through the strainer and smack it onto the floor.
your mopping is nowhere near as good or thorough as kita’s, but you get the job done.
when he gets made class president, no one is surprised, but you do find your eyes drawn to the back of his head as he stands up to bow and accept the position. when he enlists your help for the school athletics fair, you grumble about having to do the extra legwork, but he simply blinks at you.
“you’re good at that kind of thing, so i know you’ll get it done.”
and really, you shouldn’t have blushed so damn hard at such a terrible line but… you did anyway. and the fact that he hadn’t meant it as a compliment — well. you might’ve liked that too.
“ah — here are the bandanas for kibasen… and i think we’ve got the teacher-student relay sign ups all done,” you drop a bagful of brightly colored bandanas onto kita’s desk during lunch before plopping down on the seat in front of him, straddling the back of the chair to watch him as he opens up his meticulously crafted bento box.
“thank you,” he says, moving the bag to the floor.
you cock your head, “kita-san… do you ever eat junk food?”
he bows over his lunchbox, pausing as he considers your question.
“not really. i’m not that fond of things that aren’t good for me.”
“hm… but y’know — some things could be bad for the body, but good for the soul, right?”
he blinks as you grin up at him, your cheek pillowed on your arm, your eyes bright as sunrise.
“hm. i’ve never thought about it like that. thank you.”
you consider him as he considers you. and for a moment, your entire world is the size of a homeroom class, your heart clattering inside your chest like loose crayons in a box, your stomach empty as the rows of afterschool lockers. kita smiles then, and it shakes through your whole body like the last bell in the afternoon, letting spill a whole kaleidoscope of butterflies into the world beyond the school gates, their wings flickering orange against the afternoon sun.
three days later, you arrive in the morning to find something tucked into your shoebox, a white plastic bag with a note tucked in. a box of pocky along with a sheath of vitamin c tablets — something good for the soul and something good for the body (it’s getting colder out, please be careful) - kita.
you break into laughter so hard you scare the two girls standing behind you, chattering about a cute new cafe in town.
a week later, kita arrives at school to find a similar white plastic bag shoved into his own shoe box with a chocolate orange and a bottle of pocari sweat, a note written on glittery pink stationary states — if the unhealthy thing is in the shape of a healthy thing, does that make the unhealthy thing healthier? (also, is pocari sweat named pocari “sweat” because it tastes a little salty?)
he stares at the note for a full five seconds before smiling and folding it into quarters, tucking into his uniform pocket.
that day at lunch, you’re halfway through your second onigiri when a slice of chocolate orange appears in front of you, carefully offered on a bright white napkin.
“did you know that dark chocolate is actually quite good for your heart in small amounts? there’s been a lot of research done on it’s link with improved cardiovascular efficiency.”
you blink at the slice of chocolate orange before your eyes slowly flicker up to meet kita’s, his expression open, his smile small but sweet. you grin, quirking an eyebrow as you take the slice and pop it into your mouth.
“yeah, but i got you the normal milk-chocolate ones.”
kita laughs, a light, wonderful, skin-tingling thing, and drops into the sat in front of you, unpacking his own bento box on your desk with a nod.
“yeah, you’re right.”
you have lunch together the next day, and then the next day. that friday, you flick open your phone and turn it around to face him during lunch, shoving it wordlessly towards him. he pauses mid-chew and stares for a second before swallowing and reaching for it, punching in his number and equally wordlessly handing it back to you. you both take a breath and like a hitched breath or skipped frame, the world continues to spin, but somehow, everything is just a little bit different.
you mention a movie you want to see; he tells you that he’s been meaning to see it too.
the following tuesday, you find a single movie ticket in your shoebox.
wednesday afternoon, after volleyball practice, kita flicks open his phone to find a text from a number he doesn’t know. it just says — caramel or chocolate popcorn?
he finds himself smiling as he hits the reply button, someone is already peering over his shoulder.
“oya! kita-san is texting a girl!” atsumu’s voice is much too loud in the clubroom, full of half-dressed boys, and of course, everyone instantly pauses to look over.
“oi, oi, tsumu that’s none of your —”
“wait, is it that girl you’ve been having lunch with every day?” atsumu’s face presses in and kita sighs, methodically buttoning up his shirt.
“yes. it is.”
“ah! kita-san has a girlfriend!”
kita hoists his backpack over his shoulder, turning to slate a look at atsumu before heading out the clubroom door.
“she’s not my girlfriend yet. please don’t forget to lock up again. see you all tomorrow morning.”
everyone bows and says their goodbyes as if on autopilot. it isn’t until the door swings closed behind kita that omimi frowns, turning to aran with a confused blnk.
“wait. did he say she’s not his girlfriend… yet?”
saturday afternoon finds you both outside the local movie theater, you fidgeting with your phone charms, him showing up with a light smile. you have to stop yourself from staring at the simple white tee he wears over a pair of well-worn jeans, a single hand raised in greeting.
“so. the popcorn,” you say as you both make your way to the front of the concessions counter.
“yes,” he says, grinning as you purse your lips, eyes gliding over the various flavor options before settling back on him. there’s a blush on your cheeks the color of peach blossoms that kita sort of wishes he could take a picture of and keep forever — tucked into the pocket of his school uniform or perhaps sewn into the lining of his jacket.
“did you mean it?” you ask.
at this, kita laughs, nodding as he turns to the cashier, “can we get the large popcorn combo please — both caramel and chocolate.”
the cashier bows and someone behind the counter starts to scoop out equal amounts of each flavor into a large divided popcorn bucket. you resist the urge to squeal as the overflowing bucket slides across the counter. kita picks it up and motions for you to follow him.
after the movie, you’re wandering around the bustling streets of amagasaki, the early evening air warm as it settles around you both, already a little humid, weighted with possibilities.
“be honest, have i been a terrible influence on you?”
kita is quiet before letting out a small laugh.
“hm… that depends on what you define as a ‘terrible influence’, no?”
“and… what would you define as a ‘terrible influence’?”
you peer at him over the ice pops that you’d both bought in a nearby convenience store.
“objectively speaking… i’ve been eating things that aren’t the best for my diet, but i’ve been careful to balance them out with other, healthier things,” he says, his eyes trained on his own ice pop before he gives it a tentative lick. a shiver chases down your spine as his eyes slide over to meet yours.
“but i think i’ve been feeding my soul a lot of good things since we met. and i think that’s really important too.”
you feel that familiar twist in your lower belly, the rush of warmth as it rushes up your chest, cresting into your cheeks in a great wave. you feel your heartbeat like a hummingbird’s wings, fluttering against the base of your throat, your mind a freshly cleaned chalkboard with only one sentiment — ah… if we kissed right now, i wonder if our lips would stick.
you decide to find out.
and the answer is, they do. but neither of you feel the need to talk about it in any depth, instead preferring to press in closer, and then closer, till both your popsicles are forgotten, dropping onto the pavement at your sides.
“ah… what a waste…” you sigh, a little bit breathless as he finally lets you go, both his hands cupped around your face.
“i don’t think so,” he says, and his voice is light, his smile even lighter, but the brightness shining behind his eyes tells you more than anything that he’s eager for more. and who are you to deny him, anyway?
“yeah, you’re right — we can always get more ice pops…”
he leans down to press his lips back to yours and neither of you think to mention that well, you can always have more kisses too. but. priorities, right?
he tells you he loves you three weeks later, your fingers laced, the night already full and dark. you’d waited for him after practice, waving at his the rest of his team as they hooted and hollered at you from the 2nd floor clubroom. your breath catches in your chest as you turn to look at him.
there’s that light, easy smile on his lips, and for a second, you wonder how someone who’s so serious all the time can say something like that so lightly. but then, his eyes meet yours and you feel yourself caught like a kindling to a flame in the intensity of his gaze. you blush and look back at the empty street before you, the summer night a blaze of humidity and cicada song.
“you don’t have to say it back but… i thought i should let you know.”
you squeeze your eyes shut — don’t say that like you’re talking about the weather this weekend!
but it’s kita, and you know him well enough by now to know that he wouldn’t lie to you. not about this; not about anything else either.
his fingers in yours never tighten or loosen either, and for a beat, you’re stumped by his certainty, by the casualness of it all. by his unwavering belief that this, of all things, is true.
it takes you three whole months to say it back, but when you do, he only kisses you like rain, like certainty and sunrise and he smiles.
“i know,” he says.
you frown, just a bit, pursing your lips.
“you… knew?”
kita laughs, and this time, it’s a real laugh, full-bodied and weighted, rumbling deep in his chest, shaking his entire body as he wraps his arms around you, pulling you closer on his bed, you slotted between his legs, the latest copy of jump! splayed over his stomach. and in another time, in another situation, the position might’ve been something less casual, less innocent, but he only grins as he recovers from his bout of laughter, reaching out to trace the line of your cheek with a gentle finger.
“yes, i did — i do. of course i do.”
“but… how?”
he closes leans down to close the magazine, sitting up to hoist you over his lap. you let out a small squeak, a now too-familiar warmth curling in your stomach as he easily maneuvers you into a comfortable position. you’d long since gotten used to the strength in his body, the long sinew of his limbs, his movements, the ease with which he could, he if chooses, to manhandle you into any position he likes — a concept that, admittedly, neither of you had brought up to explore fully just yet. but soon, you think.
he takes his time, running both his hands up the length of your back, drawing them back down to rest on the curve of your hips, his movements unhurried.
“they say that 93% of human communication is nonverbal,” he says, like he always does, his words steady and strong.
“right…” you say, amusing yourself with tangling your fingers in the hairs at the nape of his neck, tugging on them slightly, almost absently.
“so what do you think you’ve been saying to me these past three months when you wait for me after practice, when you stay after school to help me clean the classrooms, when you blush like this… just sitting with me?”
and it’s then that you notice, the slight hitch in his voice, the more-than-usual sharpness in his eyes, the way his fingers are digging into your hips just a bit more than before. in return, you feel your own skin simmering up with heat, your stomach roiling inside you, your heart racing as if it were trying to escape your chest, leap from you mouth and perhaps into his —
“i — “
he smiles then, a raw quirk of the lips that sets your whole body ablaze.
“you’ve been telling me this whole time,” he says, leaning in to ghost his lips along yours.
“yeah… but that last 7% still means something right?” you fist your fingers in his hair, gasping as he rucks you up into his lap, just a bit further, the heat between your bodies condensing like water against a frozen glass, beading along your skin as he grins against your lips.
“of course it does… but now that i have all 100%, what do i still have to complain about?”
you puff out a laugh before he catches your lips between his and you’re lost to the warmth, to the desire calcifying inside you. after a good few minutes of kissing, of lips and teeth and tongues and gasping, he flips the pair of you over, pinning you beneath him as he trails a searing line along your jaw, down your neck.
“i love you,” he says, in that earnest, all-too-sincere way of his, but there’s nothing soft about the way he looks at you, nothing innocent about the way his knee presses up between your legs, making you hiss. you let your eyes flutter shut, arching up into the liquid fire of his touch.
“i love you too,” you say, your words cut off by a high whine in the back of your throat as he inches a hand down to tease at the skin of your thigh beneath your skirt, the hard calluses on his fingers and palms chasing desire through your veins.
“i know,” he says, nodding as he presses another kiss to your collarbone, “but… will you let me show you instead?”
you gasp out a laugh, nodding as well, glancing up at him through glazed-out eyes, the expression on your face one that he think he’ll never forget, all pink-cheeks and kiss-swollen lips, your hair a halo on his pillow, your clothes mussed and rumpled.
“h-haven’t you been doing that all these past months anyway?” you breathe out, your chest heaving as he traces abstract circles into the tender skin of your inner thigh.
kita laughs, bobbing his head as he pulls back slightly to pop the first few buttons of his shirt. he watches as you swallow, the way your entire body seems drawn taught, how this is all for him — and he can’t help thinking that ah… love looks good on you.
he wants to see more, to see all of it, to see all the different ways that this love can be played out against the milk of your skin. and he wants to be the one to do the playing. so he leans back down over you, kisses you sweet and deep and thorough, kisses you till he is unsure of which breath is yours and which is his, till he himself is dizzy with the taste, the feeling, the mere thought of you. and he knows that it's at least a little irrational, that there's no guarantee this will lead to a future with you, that in all likelihood, it'll end with one or both of you with your hearts broken, that it'll end, but that doesn't matter. it's never mattered to him -- not really.
because he knows that even if in the future, it might break him, that it might not be good for him, that right now, this is what he wants -- his body, his soul -- he wants to sink himself into the abyss of you and hold his breath without thinking about the drowning. he wants -- god he wants. because this journey is so much more important to him than where either of you end up, though he can't help hoping that you'll end up with him anyways.
he wonders -- no, he knows that at least for him, this is what "love" is.
“yes, i have… but i can think of a few more ways,” he says, tugging lightly at the material of your skirt.
you reach up to tug at the hem of his shirt in return and he knows he’s lost.
you smile, catching your bottom lip in your teeth as you watch him.
“alright then… show me.”
and so, he does.

Tumblr media
Avoidance is the better option, for now that is.
Simply turning the other way, diverting your gaze and trying to avoid confrontations with him is just a temporary solution to a problem that will soon be permanent.
Hide and seek was one of the childish games you used to love and play with as a kid — funny, you're using those skills in real life now.
Hiding behind the classroom doors, making yourself tiny and unnoticeable amidst the bustling crowd, dashing to get to the other building in order to avoid him, to avoid your friend.
It's strange those skills you learned were still lacking, that after your years of practice, mastering the art of stealthing – you'll still be found, would still be the ‘sore loser’ in this kind of game.
That after all the barricades you throw yourself into, in the end it's of no use, because with just one call you're weak, with one look at him you'll be easy to give in – when Kita calls out your name, you'll be defeated again.
With his dull brown eyes, drooping with exhaustion, you found yourself being submerged into nothingness once again. Sinking into distress, anxiety and fear once more – a never ending cycle once you look at those eyes.
“Why are you avoiding me y/n? Did I do something wrong?” he starts, sunken eyes still fixated on yours, still staring at your soul.
His palms are soft against your trembling wrist, if he wasn't focused on your face he would've noticed that you're shaking, from fear or from the adrenaline of running – it's unidentifiable.
Tilting your head to the side, mustering the final restraint to keep your facade: “You didn't do anything wrong, I'm just busy these days.”
“You’re lying”
In any other day you hoped that Kita notices your every movement, every little changes, the minor details you do – craved for his attention on you always, to look and notice you only, but now you're begging for him to not be observant, to bury those words just the way it is now and just dig for it some other time.
Seems like that won't be happening.
“Tell me why are you avoiding me, have I made you uncomfortable? Did I do something to offend you? Did I unconsciously—”
“No”
“Then tell me the reason” he pleads, with his hands gripping your wrist, so tight that you could feel your chest tightening yet loose that you could feel him slip away with just one wrong move.
“Please”
Please, tell me so I can understand.
Would risking be the better solution?
Avoidance seems to be out of the choices.
Should you just risk it and let fate play what it wants or should you just run and find a better place to hide, start another game of hide and seek?
Please Y/n, I don't want to lose you like this, I don't want for us to drift away without doing anything.
Conscience really does play a huge part in a human’s nature.
“I-i just thought I can't be your friend anymore, I don't want to be just your friend.”
For a second you contemplate whether to finish it or not, finish the sentence and then what? Ruin your friendship.
Leaving it just like that? Also ruining your friendship.
“I think I like you Kita and I just don't know what to do, so I thought if I avoid you and won't see you again maybe my feelings would be gone… but it didn't”
Aside from hide and seek, this whole thing is like playing tug of war; with you on the other side and Kita on the opposing side.
Putting all of your strength and effort into tugging the rope while he does the same — there's three outcomes: you lose and fall flat, you win but he'll fall, or it'll break and both of you would fall.
At first you find losing to be a better alternative, find him laugh without ever knowing that anxiety cripples your heart and mind, find him smile at you without knowing how much it loses your breath, find him be the man you could never have while you cower in defeat.
Truly it's the lamest option, but what else can you do, what else is there?
Be selfish and win the game but watch him walk away from you? That's much worse.
“It’s fine if you don't feel the same, I wasn't expecting you to–”
“Who told you I don't feel the same way?”
Kita releases your wrist, catches your hands and guides it to his face – that look in his face that you loved resurfaces, glimmering with utmost bliss, corners of his lips reaching his ears, you're afraid his cheeks will fall off.
“I like you too” his sincerity radiates through you, engulfing you in his arms with such gentleness that it felt unrealistic.
“I also felt scared telling you so I didn't say anything but the others told me to confess.” his breathing lulls you, heaving up and down – this still feels like a dream, everything is.
His arm on your waist, the other resting on your cheek, his lips pressed on your crown – time felt unmoving.
“I like you y/n, promise me you won't avoid me again” if everything is a dream, then, would staying be alright?
Would living in this fever dream mean you committed a crime? Then if so, you're willing to be a sinner.
You're more than happy to commit a crime if it meant staying in his warmth.
“I promise.”
The whole thing is still a mess, everything; from the confession, the reciprocation of feelings, the evasion – everything still seems to be lacking, still unclear and yet the silence and warmth is enough for now.
Everything seems to be clear when he's near, maybe for now, this would be a better explanation.

001 an innocent valentine ft. kita shinsuke
wc: 500
valentine's masterlist, regular masterlist
Tumblr media
“Who do you think it’s for?”
“Definitely not Atsumu.”
“Hey! I’m a great catch, for your information-”
“Yeah, right.”
“Shh! They’re coming back!”
“Put it away-”
“Zip it up-”
“What do you think you’re all doing?”
The voice of the Inarizaki manager rings from above the second-year trio, Atsumu, Osamu, and Rintaro, caught red-handed rifling through your bag, a neatly wrapped box of chocolates pinched between their trespassing fingers.
“Nothing!” they all say at once, dropping the box and standing at attention.
You smack each of the three upside the head with the notebook you have in your hand. “Go back to practicing.”
“Awwww, c’mon manager. At least give us something. Who’re those for?” Atsumu asks.
You give him a look before fishing the box out of your bag and calling for Aran.
“Aran! Here!” you call, chucking the box at him. “Happy Valentine’s.”
Aran catches it easily, stuffing it in the pocket of his volleyball sweater. “Thank you.”
“It was for Aran-kun?!”
“Since when did you two start dating?”
“Did ya see the way he was so nonchalant about it?!”
“Big words for ya, ‘Tsumu.”
“Huh?! Ya picking a fight?!”
“Hey!” you yell. “Shut up and hold out your hands.”
They obediently stick their hands out. You drop 3 boxes, identical to the one thrown at Aran moments ago, into their waiting palms.
With one last smack to each of their shoulders, they scurry off back to their drills, satisfied now that they’ve each received their own little prizes. They make it back onto the court just in time for Kita to return from speaking to the club advisor.
“Hope they didn’t give ya too much trouble today.”
“Nah,” you say. “They’re troublesome and a bit stupid, but it’s alright.” You look up at your boyfriend, swinging your joined hands and appreciating his thumb rubbing calm patterns along your cold fingers.
“Yer hands are cold,” he says simply, stopping to wrap his scarf around your neck before joining your hands together again.
“Thanks,” you breathe, inhaling deeply.
The rest of the walk home flies by in comfortable silence, the hand held in his staying pleasantly warm even in the late-winter chill. At the entrance of your house, he lets go of your hands, smiling and nodding for you to go in. He stays to watch, making sure you’re in safely before leaving, as he does every day.
When you stare at him, he tilts his head. “What’s wrong?”
You laugh quietly. “You didn’t think I made chocolate for all those chuckleheads and not you, did you?”
He rubs the back of his neck, blushing lightly. “I was looking forward to it, " he admits sheepishly. “But I don’t mind if ya don’t have anything for me. Just being able to be with ya like this makes me plenty happy.”
You dig into your pockets to pull out a box just for him. It’s wrapped much more elaborately than the others are, with his name in curly, hand-written calligraphy. Instead of tossing it to him, as you did for the others, you hold the box out with two hands.
“Will you accept my chocolate, Shin?”
Kita smiles. The warmth rushes all the way through your body.
“Of course. I’d be happy to.”
He takes the box, undoing the ribbon and pops one into his mouth. “It’s good,” he says.
“I’m glad,” you respond. You reach up on your tiptoes to press a lingering kiss into his cheek.
“See you tomorrow, Shin.”
“Tomorrow,” he nods.

Rrring rrrring !!
The alarm went off for 6am. Kita groaned, shuffling the blankets and turning to look at you.
He didn't have to wake up so early today. His only class was an afternoon class. Plus he stayed up last night with you, binge watching movies and cuddling on the couch.
It was around 2am when he woke up and realised how you both had fallen asleep on the couch. His neck was bent at a very uncomfortable angle.
He had craned his neck to look at you.
Only to coo at the sight of you curled up beside him, mouth drooling a huge patch onto his chest. He would keep it a secret, obviously predicting how mortified you would be if you were to know.
Now, as he stretches a hand, successfully stopping the alarm, he remembers a little something you had told him before the movie last night.
"I wanna make you breakfast in bed." You had pouted.
He could understand your complain. Every time he stayed over, he was the one making breakfast the next morning. It was a habit. And the bonus was he got to see your sleepy smile as you woke to the smell of the food.
He looks down at you, cosy and cuddled in the blankets, slightly snoring.
And he decides - five minutes more sleep won't hurt.
With one hand he laboriously sets the alarm for five minutes.
This time when the alarm rings, Kita lets it ring away, eyes shut closed. After the fifth ring, you wake up. For a second he feels you freeze against him.
And then you quickly sit up, like you remembered something.
Kita feels your palm, patting his face. He almost snorts when you bring your finger under his nose, probably checking if he's breathing. He keeps his breathing slow and steady, putting his hundred percent into the act.
You giggle. Slowly, you get up off the bed, hopping off to the kitchen, murmuring all the things you had planned to make to surprise him in bed.
And as the bedroom door closes behind him, Kita covers his face with his palms, rubbing hard against his cheeks and five o'clock beard. As he replays what happened, he grins, rolling around and burying his face in the pillow so his laugh is absorbed by it.
You just might be the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

ANAGAPESIS - K. SHINSUKE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings: break up. heartbreak. self-deprecating thoughts. hurt/no comfort. 3.2k words.
angstober event
Tumblr media
kita sighed as he closed the door behind him, the day’s fatigue springing onto him as soon as he took his shoes off, neatly placing them away and putting his slippers on.
it wasn’t particularly often that he had bad days, but he couldn’t exactly hide from them forever.
sure, he had a job he loved, putting all of his passion in it, but nothing really seemed to go right today. he found security and sense in his routines and yet somehow everything was misplaced or even missing today, throwing off his entire schedule.
but he was so glad to be home.
he couldn’t wait to fall into your arms and feel the weight on his shoulders disappear, letting himself be comforted by your warmth.
usually he’d come home and be greeted by you. you’d have some dinner together, either some leftovers or something one of you made (sometimes you prepared dinner together), and calmly let the day pass.
your shared apartment was more that just a few walls and furniture — it was his home, his safe place.
however, today he found you sitting in the living room, dressed in some jeans instead of the usual sweatpants. he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
“hey, love,” he greeted you with a warm smile, stepping closer to you, “you going out?”
oddly enough, you didn’t greet him cheerfully like you often did, instead only throwing a weak smile in his direction before looking down to your hands. “can we talk?” you immediately asked him with an almost timid voice.
“sure” kita sat down beside you, his entire body aching as he did so. he could only barely stop himself from letting out a relieved moan as he finally sat down again. grabbing your hand, he turned his entire attention to you. you were fidgeting, toes wiggling on the floor, as if you were anxious. “is everything okay? you seem distressed”
you took a deep breath before absentmindedly chewing on your thumb’s nail. as soon as you noticed however, you immediately brought your hand down, clenching it in your lap. your actions however only confirmed kita’s suspicion. you chewed on your lower lip for a moment before you decided to speak up. “it’s not. i- i need to tell you something,” you felt your heart race in your chest as you spoke, shifting uncomfortably in your seat. you quickly glanced over to kita, noticing the deep frown on his face and his tired, sunken eyes.
it was obvious that he had a hard day and here you were, only making it worse. could you really do that to him?
for a second you paused, before mentally shaking your head. no. you didn’t really have a choice, did you? you couldn’t just continue lying to him.
he deserved better.
“and i feel terrible for bringing it up now, but i don’t think this can wait any longer”
kita nodded slowly, rubbing a thumb over the back of your hand slowly. “okay”
he patiently waited for you to begin, yet your mouth went completely dry.
just how were you going to say this to him? could you even do it?
you knew you had to – you didn’t have a choice.
but how could you hurt someone who never did anything to hurt you?
“hey, take a deep breath,” he mumbled to you, “whatever it is, it’ll be alright, i promise”
you clenched your jaw, turning your head away from him and squeezing your eyes shut.
just why did he have to be so damn understanding? why did he have to be so loving and caring?
why was he everything you ever wanted in somebody?
and why were you planning on breaking him?
“love? talk to me,” he spoke softly, giving your hand a reassuring squeeze after bringing it up to his lips and pressing a small kiss on it. “whatever it is, together we can work this out”
don’t do this. don’t be like this. just this one time.
you quickly shook your head, still not looking at him, when you felt your eyes getting teary.
“i don’t think we can work this out, shin,” you whispered, afraid that if you spoke any louder, your voice would break.
before he could even reply, you turned to him, looking at him with teary eyes. “i think we should break up”
kita could only look at you, completely shocked.
was this supposed to be a joke?
no, you would never joke about things like that.
then why?
after way too many moments of silence, kita could still only bring himself to mutter one word. “why?”
you hated to see him like this. his eyes were wide in horror, if not even shock, as he looked at you completely confused. his hand, the same one that held yours so securely just a few minutes ago, was loose around yours, like he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be touching you. his eyes, albeit wide open, looked more like he was staring right through you, not focusing on a single thing.
you hated this look on his face.
meanwhile kita felt like he couldn’t breathe, his thoughts running wild, filling his head with way too many concerns at once, before he managed to sort them, the next words spilling over his lips.
“did i do something wrong? did i hurt you?”
he looked so sad, so full of sorrow and guilt.
he couldn’t do anything to hurt you.
pressing his lips into a thin line he looked at your still intertwined hands, giving you a short, weak squeeze. he swallowed down a lump in his throat, looking down in shame before meeting your gaze again. “love, i’m so sorry”
how could he be sorry for something he never did?
“just tell me what it is and i promise i’ll do everything i can to fix it” he sounded so sure, like it was a fact that he was the one that did something wrong, that he had to make up for something, that he was the one at fault.
you were used to kita speaking with a matter-of-factly-tone, no matter what the actual subject matter was. but how could he be so convinced that he did something wrong? he— the one that always thought about the things he did, the one that always thought about what he said, the one that was always sure of what he did and always made sure to care for you, to love you.
and to never hurt you. and he never did.
but you had to hurt him.
you looked down on your intertwined hands, torn between the urge to give his hand a squeeze or pulling yours away. but could you really let him go? “no, shin, listen-,” you tried, only to have him jump in immediately, like he didn’t really hear you in the first place.
“and if you still want to do this, i’ll respect it, i promise. just please, let me do this,” he asked, no, begged, with a sad smile on his face.
it was safe to say that kita felt like you had just pulled the rug away under his feet. he felt lost, confused and most of all guilty. he had always tried to be the best version of himself for you, be the best partner he could possibly be— and even more than that.
did he slack off recently? did he forget an important date? did he neglect you?
“shin”
mentally he ran through the past days, weeks, months, the whole last years, analyzing pretty much everything he could remember. every time you fought, every dumb argument and heated discussion, every time his tone was a little off, every time he didn’t really understand just what you wanted from him and every small thing he might have forgotten. the days he forgot to ask you how your day was, the times he could only give you a short kiss before rushing out the door, the number of times he came home and simply wanted to go to bed, not having the energy to spend a lot of time with you after an excruciatingly hard day working.
was it all too much for you?
he rushed out the door one too many times, his tone was too sharp one too many times, he forgot to kiss you properly one too many times.
he couldn’t really blame you.
but was it really that? was it all of that? was it something else?
were you going to leave him hanging like this?
pressing his lips to a thin line, he forced himself to focus back to you. “at least tell me what i did wrong, please,” kita asked before lowering his head again, taking a deep breath to distract himself from his racing heart, blinking rapidly to get rid of the few stray tears in his eyes. “don’t just leave me like this”
you closed your eyes in shame, not wanting to look at kita so broken.
while he kept asking himself what he had done to you and why you never felt safe enough to talk to him about this, you asked yourself how you could do this to him.
a sad smile on your lips, you shook your head, still not daring to take your hand away from his, desperate to feel his warmth for as long as he would allow you to. “you didn’t do anything wrong, shin,” you whispered through the lump in your throat, your voice all hoarse, “nothing”
nothing?
his head shot up, looking at you with wide and teary eyes. “then why?”
and despite that he looked so calm and even resigned, like he wasn’t even going to protest as soon as you provided him with your reason.
now it was you who looked away, biting your lip as you stared on the floor. “i just,” you stopped, not even wanting to actually say it out loud and make it real. you didn’t want to believe it, much less say it. you still hoped that this was just a weird, long dream, one that you would wake up from and everything would be the way it was before.
you would wake up next to him and he would already be awake, greeting you with his deep morning voice, with a small and loving smile. you would simply mumble some greeting, still half asleep, and move over, putting your head on his chest. his hands would find their way on your back and your heart would skip a beat, your entire body filling with love.
but you haven’t woken up for multiple weeks by now. and you didn’t wake up now.
“i just fell out of love with you”
just like that, kita felt his heart stop in his chest, shattering into a million pieces.
you fell out of love with him.
he nodded slowly, spacing out.
so there was nothing he could do anymore, huh?
did he do too little for you? did he get too used to having you by his side? should he have been more attentive, take you out more, give you more flowers, more compliments and little gifts. he should’ve held you more, kissed you more, loved you more.
he should’ve been more.
maybe then you wouldn’t have fallen out of love with him.
“for how long have you been feeling like this?” he asked slowly, sounding almost shy, like he didn’t want to actually know.
and he truly didn’t.
for how long had he made you feel like this, for long did you feel like you had to stay in a relationship you didn’t want to be in solely because of him?
“i don’t know. for too long”
you knew exactly what thoughts were running in his head. you knew how he must be blaming himself, how he was trying to find any kind of fault in himself.
and there was nothing you could to to relieve him from this, even though none of this was his fault.
you doubted there was anybody at fault — and if there was, you were sure that it would be you.
you were the one that was breaking up with him, you were the one breaking his heart, you were the one that wasn’t perfect, unlike him.
he was always perfect. and that’s what hurt you so much.
he was the ideal partner — he was caring, loving, attentive. honest, loyal, open and always communicating. he was firm, but not strict or mean, never making you feel belittled. and if he did fuck up and do something wrong, he was quick to realize his mistake and apologize, willing to do everything to make up for it and change his behavior.
he was everything anybody could ever want.
and you were throwing him away just like so.
“okay,“ he whispered, nodding to himself before pulling his hand away, clasping his other one with it and putting them in his lap, taking his warmth away from you.
your fingers itched to reach out to him again, try to comfort him, protect him from the same pain that you inflicted on him. you clenched your jaw, clenching your hands into fists instead and digging your nails into your palm. “shinsuke, i’m sorry. i’m so, so sorry”
“it’s okay,“ he breathed out, the corners of his mouth reflexively turning up for a second.
you shook your head, swallowing repeatedly. how was this okay or fair? and how could he even thing about comforting you when he was feeling like you were effectively ripping his heart out? “no”
“it is,” he replied immediately, a sad smile on his lips as he looked at you for a short moment. “you can’t choose how you feel, can you?”
you knew he was right — and yet that didn’t give you any comfort. instead, it only made your chest constrict in pain as you clenched your fist even more, feeling tears welling up in your eyes.
“i never wanted to hurt you,“ you breathed out, voice so weak that you felt like you couldn’t speak up without starting to cry.
why were you the one crying?
“i know” kita smiled sadly at you, looking down at his feet.
silence settled over the two of you, both of you occupied with your thoughts, before you decided to speak again.
“i packed a few things and i’ll stay over at a friend’s house,” you started slowly, getting up from the couch and stepping away from him. “and, uh, look for a place”
kita didn’t look up at you (probably for the better, you didn’t think you could handle his teary face), instead only nodding slightly, playing with the fingers in his lap. “okay”
you left him sitting there, rushing into your once shared bedroom to pack some essentials into a bag.
as you grabbed some clothes, you tried to ignore your blurring vision and the heavy feeling in your chest.
you didn’t want to leave him behind like that as you were gathering your things to leave what has been your shared home for so long.
and yet you had to, you knew it was the best thing to do.
because staying with him would hurt him even more.
when you returned, kita was still sitting in the same spot, looking like he hadn’t moved an inch.
and truly, he didn’t — he felt paralyzed.
was he not good enough? where did he go wrong?
what could he have done to make you fall out of love with him?
he dug his teeth into his bottom lip, clenching his eyes shut, like that would stop the tears from welling up in his eyes.
you shook your head at the sight.
how he could just sit there and let you break his heart, just like that?
“why aren’t you mad at me? you should be yelling at me, cursing at me, anything!” you bursted out, your bag falling on the floor next to you. kita jumped as he heard your voice, turning his head to look at you. he expected you to look angry, irritated, anything but seeing you with tears running over your cheeks. “why are you just letting me break your heart?”
he swallowed thickly before giving you another comforting smile, like the tears on his face weren’t even there.
“it’s not your fault. you can’t choose who you love” he let out a breathy laugh, shaking his head slightly at his words. “and also not who you fall out of love with”
you looked over at him, looking him up and down before speaking again, your voice slightly agitated. “so? how can you just take it like that?” you asked, gesturing in the air.
how could he just sit there and do nothing?
“nothing i’ll say will change this, won’t it?” he simply stated, sounding resigned. he looked over at you, noticing how you stayed silent, proving his point. “that’s why”
contrary to how that might look, kita wanted nothing more than to fight this. he didn’t want to let you or this relationship go.
he didn’t want to let go of the lazy mornings or late evenings, the trips to the farmers market or the dates at bakeries or cafés, the warm cuddles or cooking dates.
but did he really have a choice?
“i don’t want this, i still love you. i can’t look at you leave, knowing that there’s nothing i can do,” he confessed, twiddling his thumbs as he spoke. “but i will respect your choice and i will not fight to be with someone who doesn’t want to be with me anymore”
a pained, but warm smile appeared on his face again when he noticed the tears rolling over your cheeks. “it’s okay. i’m not going to yell at you and i’m not going to call you names or hurt you in any way for something you can’t control”
you swallowed, grabbing your own thigh and digging your nails into the fabric of your pants. you couldn’t even look at him.
you were such a coward.
“why do you have to be so understanding, even in this moment?”
he sighed softly. “you know why,” he whispered, feeling the tears in his how eyes again, “i cannot bring myself to be mad at you and i don’t think i’m able to give you what you want right now. i’m sorry”
he was too good for you. and you were everything he wanted.
“don’t be” you shook your head, trying to blink away the tears as you wiped over your cheeks. “it was dumb to even try to bring you to yell at me. even dumber to ask you to do this to make this easier on me” you let out a breathy laugh, shaking your head at yourself. “especially since i’m the one breaking up with you”
you scoffed at yourself before picking up your bag and finally walking towards the door, opening it with shaky hands.
and even though you had thought about this for weeks, way longer than you’d ever like to admit, you weren’t ready for a life without him.
“i’m sorry, shinsuke,” you croaked, still standing in the doorway with your back to him, “i really am”
“i know“ was all you heard before shutting the door behind you and walking away from your home, your relationship, him.
kita always strived for perfection and nothing less of perfection, not just finding comfort in it, but also believing that everybody deserved nothing but the best of him. and that belief has never failed him.
until now.
until he failed you.

HQ Kita & Ushijima - Drunk Kiss (Fluff)
Other Versions: Bakugo & Hawks ver. / Itadori & Yuta ver. / Sanzu & Rindou ver.
-----
Kita Shinsuke
Kita sighed as he tried to push off y/n. "You only kiss with the person you are in relationship with."
However, with y/n being drunk, she doesn't seem to hear him as she continued to kiss him. Kita gave up pushing her away and instead hugged her and patted her back gently as if to lure her to sleep. "I'll take you home. Just close your eyes and sleep."
"Kita~" Y/n playfully grinned as she tried to remove his grip off of her. However, after she saw that she can't get out of his grip, she gave up and fell asleep in his arms.
Once Kita heard her soft snoring, he carried her on his back and slowly walked towards her house and whispered, "I am in love with you. I won't refuse your kiss once I know it's mutual."
-----
Ushijima Wakatoshi
"We shouldn't kiss." Ushijima said as he prevented y/n from kissing him.
"Ushijima~" When Ushijima saw her grinned towards him, he could feel his cheeks flush faintly. "We should go now. You shouldn't drink any further."
"Ushijima, you don't want to kiss me?" Y/n pouted as she slightly stomped her feet to express her displeasure.
Ushijima patted her head gently, as if he is trying to comfort a child. "That's not it."
"Then why?"
"I want to kiss you when you aren't drunk. When I am sure that you won't regret it." At his confession, y/n eyes turned wide as her mind sobered.

the type to take you to a cozy cabin for a winter trip and make love to you on a warm fur rug in front of the fire place. takes his time to make you fall apart for him over and over: admiring the way you call out his name or how you writhe beneath him. it’s all sensual and slow, doesn’t wanna rush this wonderful moment and just bask in your glow. his hands and lips ghost every inch of your body and he sears this intimate moment into his brain to remember for the rest of this trip

Hi! Could you please write some Kita x Reader fluff&romance where they’re in a healthy and happy relationship?
Everyone is happy for them and they’re seen as an ideal couple (and Atsumu’s always complaining about how he wants what they have/ Kita’s so lucky when is it going to be his turn?)
Reader goes to volleyball practice whenever they can to cheer on Kita&the team, and Kita visits Reader’s club whenever he gets the chance to support them and their activities.
Almost every interaction/relationship that I’ve ever had has been toxic/immature/shallow so I would love it if you could write something wholesome/pure/positive! (Please let me live vicariously through these two 😭😭😭)
Thank you so much for indulging us with your writing and I hope you have a great day!!! ♥️
"dating shinsuke kita means..."
i’m so sorry you’ve had so many toxic relationship experiences :( kita would be the absolute best boyfriend i adore him so much!! i've recently been getting back into my hq/jjk phases so i was excited to get a hq request!
warnings: none <3
words: 1,385
note: i tried a bit of a different formatting! might come back and edit this.
Constructive feedback is always welcome! I’m always looking to improve!
Requests are open! (check my pinned post!)
Tumblr media
dating shinsuke kita means giving and receiving lots of encouragement and support.
kita loves it when you stop by the gym during his practices. you usually show up when you finish schoolwork and club activities of your own to bring him and the rest of inarizaki’s volleyball team food and beverages. his team adores you for the kindness you show them and for taking care of their seemingly very serious and independent captain. you love to support kita’s passions and are there for every one of his games, always cheering and yelling words of encouragement that kita’s ears set apart from the rest of the noises in arenas and gyms. he’s not one to need motivational words--he’s confident in things he’s proven he can pull off--, but his heart still swells and his lips form a small small at your loving words that only make him more determined to do his best.
do not think for one second this is one-sided. kita has incorporated visiting your clubroom into his daily routines, whether to observe whatever it is you’re doing or to help you out however he’s capable of. he’s attentive to your hobbies and does his best to familiarize himself with them so he can support you in the best ways possible. you are his s/o after all; the things that matter to you matter to him too. kita admires the goals you’ve set for yourself and how persistent you are in achieving them, and he’s more than willing to help you out along the way, just the same as how you are with him.
dating shinsuke kita means acts of service.
one of kita’s most prominent love languages is taking care of the people he loves and encouraging their growth through his actions. kita can be a bit cold and harsh with his words, but it’s typically because he finds it important that his intentions are communicated properly with no room for contemplation or misunderstanding. his bluntness overall is good feedback.
kita’s priority will always be your health, both physical and mental. he likes to cook, and so sometimes he’ll give you healthy snacks he prepared himself at lunch with a treat for when you finish (because there's gotta be a balance). you two fill up each other's water bottles throughout the day because staying hydrated is also very important, and oh, don’t think you can get away with staying up on a school night because kita will know. your sluggish behavior and dark circles are a dead giveaway. again, he can be a bit blunt when confronting you, but he just wants you to be getting your sleep so you don’t lag behind throughout the day.
as stated, kita is very attentive to your hobbies. he’ll take you to events you expressed interest in and center dates around things you love. one of your most memorable dates was when he prepared a night in for the two of you to try a couple of recipes that ended with watching a movie and eating homemade brownies. he’s taken you to festivals and concerts, to arcades, to the movies; everywhere you can possibly dream of, he’s taken you at least once.
you help kita manage the volleyball club even though you aren’t a manager (the other members, specifically atsumu, have asked you to be several times, though.) and stay up to date on the events that revolve around them. you’ve also tried to familiarize yourself with the sport, and when you subtly bring up the technicalities you’ve learned while the team discusses game plans, your boyfriend is visibly impressed.
dating shinsuke kita means getting complimented. by everyone on everything.
it seems the two of you are the perfect couple, and you’re constantly being told so. anyone who knows the two of you personally can see how wonderful of a pair you both make, and some people (again, specifically atsumu, who is crying in anguish), are even jealous of how well you and kita work together. kita’s friends are always telling him how lucky he is to have you in his life and he can’t help himself from smiling and saying “yeah, I am lucky” every single time because it’s you.
your friends are all over your boyfriend as well. they melt every time kita shows you the slightest bit of pda or hear about the sweet things he’s done for you because, wow, shinsuke kita is the ideal guy for so many people, and they grieve over the fact that they don’t have your same kind of love. “when is it my turn?!” they’ll rasp out dramatically while clutching their chest as kita intertwines his fingers with yours, and you’d both chuckle while leaning against him.
what your peers wouldn’t give to have a partner that looks at them the way you two look at each other.
dating shinsuke kita means he doesn’t shy away from affection.
kita isn’t one to be all over you, but he isn’t one to shy away from pda either. he’s not trying to uphold any reputation, so he’s definitely not embarrassed to let his loving gaze toward you linger or to even kiss you in front of his classmates.
frequently holds your hand and finds it sooo endearing when you swing them back and forth. he loves to kiss your hands too- the palm, the knuckles, it’s just so simple and so sweet and it makes you flustered as hell which is always an amusing sight. he mostly does it subconsciously, but he always guides you away from anything that he feels might make you uncomfortable or unsafe. the type to subtly move you when walking next to a road so that he’s closer to the traffic and not you, the type to give you a gentle tug away from large crowds or to put his arm around you so you don’t accidentally lose him, just much smaller affectionate acts that put both your minds and hearts at ease.
casual touching is his favorite form of physical affection because there’s a sense of security in it that you both really love. the casual intimacy of rubbing your arm or back to soothe you when you’re stressed or trying to fall asleep, or when your foreheads are pressed together and you just sigh, taking those moments to recollect yourself and admire your boyfriend- it’s so very heartwarming. the two of you didn’t need to show your love in grand ways, but that didn’t mean kita has never spoiled you before (he’s for sure bought you gifts and taken you out to expensive restaurants. man has class).
most importantly, dating shinsuke kita means having stability in your relationship.
kita brings everything you could ever hope to have in a relationship to the table: stability, security, inspiration and encouragement. he always has your back no matter what. you and kita are perfect, not because you never argue or because you’re constantly over each other- that couldn’t be farther from the truth. no, you and kita are perfect because you two have the patience to work through your differences and overcome obstacles in your relationship. you two work so well together because you love and trust each other enough to recognize that there are times where one or the other is busy or needs time to themselves and be okay with it. you love and trust each other enough to sit down and have mature conversations and communicate your wants and needs.
of course, the occasional argument springs up because the two of you are only human and miscommunications tend to happen, and it’s in your sensitive natures to let things get a bit heated. of course, sometimes these arguments result in an exchange of harsh words and temporary silence while you both reflect on your situation and think about how you want to proceed. at the end of the day, clashes here and there are unavoidable, but it’s about how you both go about handling them that reflects the tenderness of your relationship.
shinsuke kita believes in commitment, process and self-assurance, but he also believes in hardships, self-improvement and fulfillment. he believes in himself, but he also believes in you. and dating shinsuke kita means you will never have to navigate these things alone.

88. This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you
kita; 1,857 words; fluff and that's it -- happy bday kita-san! <3 may your rice harvest be plentiful this year!
“what does ‘beauty’ mean to you?”
it’s a question you’ve pondered, your skin smudged dark with charcoal and lead, your fingertips always ash-bitten, but sparrow-quick and just as flighty. when your art teacher had posed the question to the entire class, you’d been taken by it, held still by the vastness and the implication.
the first time you see him, you see him in brushstroke and paint, and it’s hard not to, what with his hair the exact imitation of an ink-dipped brush. but you see him in still-life and in motion studies, in the hard marble of renaissance sculpture, in the soft effervescence of impressionist painters.
beautiful, is your first and only thought.
but you are of the quiet sort of artists, the ones who, like truly dedicated nature photographers, have mastered the art of camouflage so well that rare birds and animals will crawl right up to their cameras. you are an expert at blending in, whether it be into the back of a classroom or simply to a park bench along a busy stretch of road to watch the street vendors hawking their wares, the tourists with their wide eyes and wandering gazes, always so unsure, the parents and children and businessmen in their ill-fitted suits.
you are of the quiet sort, and you’re content being as you have always been. but quiet artist girls don’t usually suddenly manage to find the gusto to talk to the beautiful boy who also just so happens to be the captain of their nationally ranked volleyball team.
it’s just not the sort of thing that happens.
until… it does.
“ahh… a model?”
you nod, your eyes flickering passed kita’s expression of tempered confusion, your fingers worrying themselves in the hem of your skirt.
“y-yes… it’ll only be for about an hour or so — and it’s on a day when you don’t have practice —” you frown at a fraying thread in the corner of your uniform and resist the urge to tug it till it unspools across the bright, paneled wooden floors of the hallway, cast brilliant in reflections of afternoon light. like this, kita’s face is lit up from below, his skin inked in orange and yellows. like this, he is nothing short of incandescent.
“sure. it’s no trouble.”
you nearly slam yourself into a bow of thanks, promising that you’ll find some way to repay him for this, turning on your heels and nearly galloping to the empty classroom where you spend most of your afternoons, sketching for your portfolio.
you run so fast that you don’t see kita’s lips twitch into the beginnings of a smile.
you don’t see the dark amber of his eyes track your form all the way down the stretch of hallway, till you turn and are lost to his sight. you don’t see him standing there for a long moment after, listening to the echo of your footsteps as they ring against the walls.
he arrives at the after school art club a bit early, intent on doing his due diligence, and he’d taken care to shower early that morning, to make sure this uniform is pressed and neat and tucked in at all the right places. he arrives at the art class to find the room bustling with activity, and the history teacher smiling at him genially from the front of the classroom.
“ah — kita-san, welcome, welcome. and thank you again for agreeing to model for us today.”
kita drops into a short, sharp bow before his eyes slingshot to you, sitting behind an easel that’s easily almost as tall as you are standing up. you’re busy with your supplies, but there’s a practiced nature to your movement as you methodically pull out all your paints and brushes, your charcoals and inks. it reminds him of himself when he’s in his element, on the court, or collecting all the scattered balls from around the gym after a good, hard practice session, pushing the cart, dragging the long mop across the wax-wooden floors.
you pause and look up, your eyes meeting his, and immediately again you duck behind the large easel. kita bites down a smile, makes note of the tight, tingling feeling in his chest and reminds himself to address it later. he tucks the thought away as he turns back to the history teacher as he begins to explain the specifics of being model for a day.
you peer out from behind your easel as kita turns away, the weight of his eagle-eyed gaze no longer pressed to your skin — like a pair of sun-warmed stones, they sit round and smooth and right and you’d felt them flicker over the rest of you before coming back up to rest on your face.
class starts and for the first time in your life, you find yourself hesitant to put pencil to paper, to dip your brush in ink and watch the darkness seep into the waiting canvas. you stare at kita, who is standing with a hand tucked into his pocket, the other resting by his side, his face turned at a 45-degree angle, looking for all the world as if he were in engaged in a phantom conversation, listening intently.
“1-minute poses please,” the history teacher says and kita bobs his head in a brief nod as the timer starts.
and this time, you don’t miss it — the way his eyes swipe towards you, lingering, lingering, and then he’s gone again.
you suck in a breath and nearly upset a jar of black ink coughing as it catches in your chest. flushing deep and hot, you mutter a soft apology to the people sitting next to you as you begin to draw.
it is mixed medium, so you pick a few of your smudgiest charcoals and set to work, your arm lissome and fluid as you sketch out the contrasting lines of kita’s face, his arms, the bend of his calves, even within the loose-fitted slacks of the school uniform — you can see their strength.
another blush threatens to overwhelm your cheeks as you squint at the page, eyes flickering up at odd intervals. and once, twice, three times, you catch him staring straight back at you. the air between you fizzles with unspent static electricity and you can’t help wondering if it’s all in your mind.
but of course it is, you think to yourself as the first half of the drawing sessions draws to a close and everyone stretches sore arms and stiff legs in their seats, chair legs scraping against the classroom floor. you frown down at the mess of sketches peppering your sketchpad. it isn’t until you feel his presence next to you that you finally lift your head.
“you do beautiful work.”
you gulp, blinking up at him. his face is gilded gold from the setting sun and you feel your breath soften in your chest.
“it helps to have a beautiful subject.”
you want to swallow back the words almost the second you say them, but then kita is laughing, a light laugh, a warm happy laugh. and you look back up to find him smiling. it’s a brilliant, beautiful thing.
“well… thank you.”
the second half of the drawing session is a reclining pose, and you pick pastels for this, rendering him in soft colors and even softer lines. except for the deep amber of his eyes, the ink-dipped tips of his hair. time shifts itself around you and before you know it, the session is ending. and everyone is packing up to go.
you finish packing your art supplies to find kita by the door, his eyes downcast at his phone screen, but when he looks up to find you watching him, he offers you a smile, pushing himself up from the doorframe to the rapidly emptying classroom.
“th-thanks again for agreeing to this…” you say as you both head out into the darkening hallway.
“i had a good time,” he says, and you think this is the most you’ve ever heard him speak.
the quiet stretches, taffy thick between you as he walks you to the school gates and you turn towards him with another shy smile.
“maybe… you could do it again sometime?”
kita cocks his head.
“if it’s alright. i’d like to.”
you nod, pleasure twining up your chest till you can almost taste it on the tip of your tongue.
“i’ll talk to takigawa-sensei again and i’m sure he’d like to have you back just as much as i —” you cut off with a hiccup, realizing how much you’d said out loud and judging from the small grin tugging at kita’s lips, he’s not hard of hearing.
“ah… so you spoke to sensei first about me modeling?”
you have to physically fight the itch in your arms, to bury your face in your hands and perhaps press your back to the school’s red-brick wall and hope that it swallows you whole.
“i — well — he was asking if we knew any — anyone who’d be good and i — i immediately thought of you…”
“immediately, hm?”
there’s a soft iambic hum to his voice that washes shivers down the length of your back, like stepping into a hot shower after a day spent out in the cold.
“sorry… i should’ve asked you first but…”
kita shakes his head, brushing a strand of hair from his eyes before tucking his hands into his pockets.
“you live down that way, right?” he tips his chin in the direction of the street behind you.
nonplussed, you nod. he readjusts his school bag on his shoulders and starts to walk.
“c’mon. i’ll walk you home. it’ll be dark soon.”
you stare after him for a solid ten seconds before stumbling into a jog to catch up to him, chewing down a smile that breaks over your lips anyway.
“so,” he says, letting his eyes slip towards you for a second before he focuses back on the road, “when did you start drawing?”
“i… i’ve been drawing as long as i can remember… ever since i was old enough to hold a pencil…” you take a breath and kita waits. you breathe out and let yourself smile.
“i think i’ve just… always been attracted to beautiful things… and i want to take them and keep them for myself, y’know?”
kita nods, once more casting you a side-long glance, “yeah. i know the feeling. quite well, actually.”
he doesn’t tell you that like this, with your cheeks washed in a delicate blush, either from the cold or something else, your jacket pulled high over your untucked school uniform, your thick, thigh-high stockings offsetting well-shined shoes he thinks that you’re nothing short of beautiful.

kita was always good at peeling tangerines.
for you, it seems like he could do anything and everything because how does one have the capability of peeling tangerines so neatly and even splitting them into such perfect halves as well? but for kita, he knows he still has plenty of room for improvement—including improvements in peeling tangerines.
as you attempt to peel another tangerine, juice squirts everywhere as you have yet again, ripped another hole into the fruit. kita hears a sigh of defeat from you as you put your hands on the table, fingers soaked from the juice.
“shinsuke,” you say, “i don’t know how you do it!”
he chuckles at your words, grabbing another tangerine to show you how it’s done. “don’t apply that much pressure when you’re peeling it. as you see, you press too hard to the point you end up making the juice squirt out in all directions,” he explains, peeling a small portion off and lending it to you to make you finish it.
but even with his explanation, there’s just no way—you’re still tearing holes into the fruit, and juice continues to squirt out.
although there is a part of him that wishes for you to learn how to peel tangerines, there’s also a part of him that wishes the opposite.
i hope you never learn how to peel tangerines.
(please keep depending on me. please keep relying on me for these small things because i love you and i will do it for you everytime.)
the rest of the afternoon was quite easy, kita continued to peel the remaining tangerines for the both of you.
“do you want another one?” he offers.
it’s these small things that kita appreciates in life. he feels nice and warm inside when he gets reminded that the little things aren’t really little if you think about it.
i love you. i’m glad i exist.

‣ kita shinsuke x gn!reader
‣ a series of unfortunate events for our mochi kita, meet-cute(?), fluffy
‣ 1,544 words
Tumblr media
kita shinsuke is late.
yes, that's right — for probably the first time in his life, due to an accumulation of unfortunate mishaps, he finds himself scrambling in the morning, heart pounding, as he moves as fast as he can to load bags of rice in his truck.
how exactly did he get here?
his first mistake was staying up much later than usual on the previous night, persuaded by atsumu and osamu's goading and whining of c'mon, kita-san, just a few more minutes! at the inarizaki mini get-together in onigiri miya, where he'd consumed a little more alcohol than he'd like to admit. as a result, he had woken up a whole half hour later than usual, sleepy eyes shooting wide open when he made out the time and his body all but tumbled out of bed, legs still tangled with his blankets.
kita shinsuke runs on routines. he finds comfort and contentment in knowing what most of his day will look like — what he's doing, where he's going, when it's happening. to some, it may seem like a dreadful constant of day in, day out, going through the same motions with little to no deviation, but kita likes to see it as his little corner of bliss. an escape, if you will, from the ever-turbulent ups and downs of life. from an outsider's point of view, one would assume his disciplined practice is merely something he has built out of habit, which isn't wrong, per se, but what they don't know is that kita craves — needs his routines just as much. it's inevitable that there will always be unexpected occurences, whether they're good or bad, long or short. this way, he thinks, it's a lot easier to take it all in stride. to have something to fall back on whenever things get a little too overwhelming.
which is why the rapid drumming in his chest, which could be from the overexertion of a rushed morning or the anxiety but most likely due to both, feels so utterly foreign to kita. he takes note of the way his fingers involuntarily trembles as he finishes loading up the last bag of rice, though he doesn't know why. he's supposed to make a morning delivery to Onigiri Miya today, before returning to tend to his farm, and though he knows his delay is unlikely to upset osamu or have any negative repercussions, he can't help the unpleasant nerves churning in his stomach.
still, kita shinsuke is kita shinsuke, so he takes a deep breath, pulls it together and makes the drive he's committed to memory towards the onigiri shop. all along the way, he has the radio playing at a reasonable volume, the chattering from the radio dj's and the occasional music from the speakers serving as a soothing background noise as his eyes stay fixated on the road.
kita is convinced he’s regained his composure during the twenty-minute drive. he’s had the chance to slow down his heart rate, quell the morning fluster he’s been feeling, and mentally move his schedule around so that he can still finish all his tasks before sundown.
okay. he’s got this.
all that’s left to do right now is get out of his truck, apologize to osamu, and–
smack! thud! “ow!”
oh, gods. he couldn’t even get the first thing off his checklist done right.
the rice farmer wants to groan, sink into the vinyl of his seat, and hopefully wake up from a bad, bad dream. unfortunately, he’s sure of two things: one, that this isn’t a nightmare he can simply move on from, and two, that was a very real, very alive human person he just hit with the door of his truck.
it’s like all his previous efforts have gone to waste as kita hurries, more carefully this time, to exit his vehicle, his heartbeat spiking once more and a pool of anxiety, now mixed with guilt, resurfaces in the pit of his stomach. once he shuts the door, he’s met with the sight of your figure – sitting flat on your bottom (not by choice, of course), one of your hands rubbing the upper arm where he assumes had come into contact with his truck’s door. he’s quick to bend down and offer a hand to help you up, all the while spewing out an apology and a concerned, “are you okay?”
you don’t make any moves to take his hand, instead blinking up at him with furrowed brows. kita’s heart just about drops to his feet, fighting back a grimace. sure, he didn’t deliberately open his door into you and sent you plummeting to the ground, but he supposes you have some right to hold it against him. he holds his breath when you finally open your mouth to speak.
“are you an angel?”
kita is stunned into silence at your question, hand still frozen mid-air as he stares unblinkingly at you.
“... are ya concussed?”
as it happens, you are not concussed, but in your defense, you were just violently struck down out of nowhere as you were innocently walking to work, and as you’re mentally recovering, an objectively handsome man had suddenly appeared before you, leaning in with his strong, defined facial structure, forehead partly obscured by his bicolor hair and honey-golden eyes boring into yours with such sincerity, it makes your heart skips a beat. it doesn’t help that he’s wearing an off-white linen shirt, leaving the top unbuttoned and teasing a glimpse of his collarbone, and that the sun is positioned behind him, resulting in a glowing halo effect around the man.
so, yeah, you think your question is at least a little bit justified.
though as the initial shock and confusion fade away, and you begin to realize what exactly you had just asked him, you feel waves of warmth flooding your cheeks. you cough awkwardly and take his hand that’s outstretched towards you, using him as an anchor as you jumpily push yourself off the ground.
however, what you don’t expect is a force just as powerful pulling you upwards, causing you to yelp as you stumble to find your footing and you end up lurching forward instead – right into the arms of the man in front of you.
kita moves swiftly, reflexes instinctively urging his arms to support you by your sides. his heart thumps abnormally loud when you land with an oomph onto him, your eyes staring, wide-eyed, into his irises that mimic the same surprised expression.
there’s a pregnant pause as the two of you remain in the same position for a fleeting moment, standing very close together for a pair of strangers, his hands firmly holding onto your waist while your palms rest against his chest, almost acting like a barrier.
kita is the first to speak, trying his best to conceal the stammer in his words. “i-i’m sorry... again. are ya alri–”
“geez, kita-san. yer already try’na make a move on my newest employee right after assaulting them with yer truck?”
the sudden intrusion from osamu drags you back to your surroundings and instantly makes you separate from each other as you feel more blood rushing to your face and your mind spinning with questions.
does miya-san know this man? are they friends? does he think i’m coming into work late because i’m trying to seduce his ridiculously handsome friend?
“miya-san!” you squeak out, cringing inwardly at the crack in your voice. “i’m– it’s not what it–”
your boss waves off your floundering. “s’okay, i saw everything from the window. was pretty funny to watch,” he reassures with a lazy smirk, though it doesn’t seem to shake your embarrassment. “and i told ya to quit callin’ me that! ya better start calling me osamu or else i’ll have to start docking yer pay.”
“r-right,” you nod at him.
you have yet to find the courage to look back at “kita-san” again, fixing your gaze at osamu instead. meanwhile, kita silently observes your interaction with the grey-haired man, maintaining the collected look on his face though he can feel the tips of his ears burning up.
“alrighty, then,” osamu continues, “y/n, you finish prepping the rest of the ingredients in the kitchen. kita-san, i’ll help ya with the rice.”
kita nods in agreement, watching your back as you sheepishly scamper into the onigiri shop and disappear into the kitchen area, eyes lingering just long enough for osamu to notice.
“wow, kita-san,” he chuckles, grinning slyly at his former captain, “can’t believe i get to watch yer meet-cute moment, right in front of my eyes.”
kita dismisses his comment with a slight shake of his head. “it was an accident,” he states matter-of-factly, moving to the back of his truck with osamu hot on his heels.
osamu heaves a bag of rice into his arms and looks over to kita once again. “yeah? well, the booze from last night must’ve done quite the number on ya, huh?” he teases.
“yes,” kita admits reluctantly. “i overslept this morning, sorry fer comin’ late today.”
osamu playfully scoffs at his friend. “that’s not what i meant,” he laughs, lightly elbowing kita in the side. “what i’m sayin’ is – how come yer face is still as red as last night?”

[Wedding Season] - ft. Kita Shinsuke
wc: 500
--
“Kita?” you call from the bathroom.
“Hmm?”
Your face feels a bit flush. “Can you please help me?”
You hear the rustling of the bedsheets, probably Kita getting up. There’s the sound of his footsteps, muffled by the thin carpet, louder every time he takes a step closer until he’s right at the bathroom door.
“What is it?” he asks.
You make one last ditch attempt at pulling the zipper up, to no avail.
Kita knocks once, calling your name in question.
You open the door just enough to crane your neck out, holding your dress up by the neckline. “My zipper’s stuck.”
He nods. “Let me help ya, then.”
You step away from the door, turning your exposed back to him and clutching the top of your dress like a lifeline.
When Kita steps in, he easily steps right up to you, splaying one large palm on your lower back, the other hand deftly pulling the zipper up.
The affair couldn’t have lasted 3 seconds, but you felt every centimeter of the zipper close, each notch sealed together making your temperature rise a bit. When the zipper reaches the top, you exhale heavily and mumble a soft “thank you” at the floor.
Kita however, does not step away. Instead he reaches a hand around to tilt your chin up to meet his eyes in the mirror. His other palm is still flat and steady on your lower back.
“Ya look beautiful.”
You gulp, positive he can feel it with his thumb and pointer finger under your chin and pinky grazing your jugular.
“Kita,” you manage to whisper.
Kita closes in, face coming in to drop a light kiss at your pulse point. Then he rises back up to his full height, only to firmly guide your jawline upwards to meet him for a kiss.
You close your eyes and revel in the feeling of his steady hold on your chin, the snaking of his forearm around your waist, and the solid press of his lips against yours. You feel his tongue slide against your closed lips once. You’re ready to open up for him, but he pulls away, tugging lightly on your lower lip as he goes.
“Sorry,” he breathes out.
You’re left staring at him in confusion.
“I did not want to do this in the bathroom of the hotel. I was going to ask ya to dance after the ceremony, then ask ya to be mine. A little more romantic than this.”
As you look into his eyes, still catching your breath, you see that he doesn’t look very sorry. In fact, he looks quite pleased, content to keep one arm wrapped around your torso and the other under your chin to keep your eyes glued to his.
It’s too much and you break eye contact, staring back at the floor, but giving him your answer in the way you press back harder against his chest and intertwine your fingers through the ones resting on your belly.
You hear him laugh breathily in your ear, reading you like a book. It’s easy when you let him pull you by the hand and out the door.
“Let’s go darlin’”
