Gunslinger and handyman, Destiny is self-aware, really arrogant, sarcastic, cold and cocky. He's also stubborn. It's really hard to change his mind and if he wants something he will do whatever needs to be done to get it, unless it’s something that goes against his few principles. He doesn't trust anyone, making him a solitary kind of person who likes to work alone, keeps to himself and tries, whenever possible, to keep the distance from human feelings and affections, and especially, personal information. Lying if he has to. He is, in fact, a very good liar, it’s hard to get to know him, and he never keeps his promises. In addition he is a logic kind of person who likes to make plans, but he can quickly change them if the first idea didn’t go as expected. Despite the fact he tends to avoid romantic relationships, he doesn't disdain physical contact, especially if it leads to casual sex. He is actually a regular costumer of local whorehouses.

Destiny was born in a wealthy family. His mother, Celine, was a splendid and lovely housewife and his father Hugh was a landowner. But his father was a really violent man. Hugh abused his wife and did violence to her and to his son too. Celine did her best to protect his son from her husband, but there was less she could do. Destiny grew up wild and without a proper father figure and with him his hate towards his father grew too. Destiny promised himself he would have done anything to stop his father violence on his mother, but when he was only 12, his mother died of what they said it was heart attack. Destiny in the grip of pain and anger took his horse, few clothes and left his house. He grew up in the streets and had a several  different jobs

Gender: Trans Male (he/him)
Sexual Orientation: Demiromantic Demisexual
Height: 5'8 feet / 1.70 meters
Hair Color: Currently Grey, formerly black.
Family: Emmet - Twin Brother
Elesa - Best Friend
Starter Pokemon: Oshawott (no longer in his party), and then Klinklang
Team: Klinklang, Garbador, Crustle, Excadrill, Haxorus, Chandelure, Boldore
*Ingo and Emmet share Pokemons, but these seven are mostly in Ingo’s care.
Hisui Team: Alakazam, Tangrowth, Probopass, Machamp, Magnezone, Gliscor
Likes: Trains, Learning, Pokemon Battles, Deep Conversations, Cooking and Baking, Ideals, Principles
Fears: Not living up to his standards. Not being good enough. Fear of being forgotten. Being humiliated.
Skills/Talents:
*Can cook well, and likes to take his time to sculpt them into small trains and whatnot.
*Can tackle hypothetical problems and ethical questions.
*Great strategist in Pokemon Battles. Champion-level skills in battling and training.
*Carrying out the solution in the most effective way possible. Process-oriented.
Jobs: One of the Subway Bosses of The Battle Subway, a battle facility in Nimbasa City, Unova.
Personality:
Ingo is highly organized person who likes to do focus on what he is doing, and creating new and exciting solutions for the same old problems.
*He is used to the fast-paced environment and a comforting presence for many in the Battle Subway he oversees with his twin brother. However, his time during and after Hisui resetted his system and preferences, thus, he enjoys the quiet more now.
*He is innovative and passionate, making him a feared opponent.
*He enjoys approaching every constant with change, and he is prone to getting lost in thought and philosophical mental discussions. He is fond of Emmet and how he entertains the passengers, but Ingo enjoys encouraging them and trying to rope them into his philosophical questions more.
He likes to reconsider and go over the problems at hand, making him question things he already knows; this sometimes tires others, however, he DOES enjoy talking and deep conversations.
*His natural expression is a relaxed frown, and he hates that people find him stiff. However, a part of him enjoys being slightly intimidating. He does not there to entertain people.
*He is extremely responsible, loyal and hardworking. He is prone to burnouts due to this, like his brother.
*He will keep all his feelings and secrets to himself. The drama and gossip saps his mental energy, and he does not like the petty conflicts.
*He enjoys fine things, but, honestly? He cares more about his time spent learning and thinking than his appearance. He likes to balance the tidiness with a little bit of controlled chaos, and his belongings can be found in the most unexpected places. He sometimes puts the important paperwork in fridge not to forget.
*He is a idealist. He pursues his principles and thus, flexible with the rules to bend them according to what he feels is right.
*He is passionate. A battle well-fought is never a defeat in his eyes. However, a lousy or ‘boring’ win will disappoint him; he will throw himself to work to improve his skills after a unsatisfactory battle. After all, results are only a small part of the whole process.
*He does not feel strongly about making friends. He enjoys a close-knitted circle of acquaintances and his family. He also does not wish to spill his guts by oversharing stuff, so he fears being vulnerable while trying to make friends.
*He is formal, curious and PASSIONATE! No matter how silly it is, if the person has passion for it, it will mesmerize Ingo! Thus, he enjoys jokes and puns. He likes people who can share the serene solitude of his with some deep conversations. His love language is quality time and and long-winded words of affirmation, and gifts like taking the person out to make new experiences will be his go-to.
*He is caring, and loves to serve others, likes his brother. However, unlike Emmet, this does not entail entertaining the others, but helping them with heir own processes. Like Emmet, taking his time to go over his opponents’s strategies after the match, and happily answering any question about Pokemon battle strategies are his favorite pasttime.
*Innovative. Does not like repeating himself and his methods, thus, he is always after surprising the people he likes.
*Ingo LIES. As long as his ideals and principles are aligned with the lie he tells, Ingo is a terrifyingly good liar. He also likes to take the lead and making a change, and having some white lies to exaggerate the issues and problems does the trick most of the time.
*Ingo feels likes he can do anything he puts his mind to with Emmet by his side. Ingo takes the lead and makes the big decisions, or propose new ideas, because Emmet feels more at home with execution of ideas and making them real than he is with coming up with ideas.
*Ingo does not mind being lied to, if the intentions are good and the lie did not cause harm in the process. However, he WON’T take it kindly if the lie somehow involves Emmet and his well-being. Call it the big brother instinct, but Ingo will only take the truth for an answer to protect Emmet better.
History: Emmet and Ingo were born to a wealthy family, with high expectations and no space for self-expression. However, Ingo found his interests lying in books and stories, and when he can read a book in peace, he can tune out the outside world. This, however, makes him an escapist, and sometimes causes problem that could have been easily solved a bigger challenge than necessary.
His sibling rivalry (lighthearted and fun one) started long ago, as Ingo fed Emmet lies about how he would choose a grass-type pokemon, only to choose water to rain on Emmet’s parade–and Emmet’s Tepig. Which made Emmet get closer to their childhood friend Elesa, who had electric-type Pokemon (Emolgas), to challenge and win against Ingo.
When they were approaching their 20s, Emmet and Ingo decided to respectively live their truth and follow their ideals, which led to them to run away from home and reinvent themselves.
Ingo chose his name to signify the ongoing process of his life and ideals. Both a train pun (“ingoing”) and with a deeper meaning (From the Germanic *Ingwaz, possibly meaning “ancestor”.), he wanted to make his mark and tell the world that his legacy started NOW.
Till they landed a job together at the Battle Subway, Ingo took on tutoring the children on Pokemon Battles. He realized he liked the act of teaching and passing his knowledge to the next generations. He does not see himself as a family man with kids, but he is always on a look-out for his protégé.
VERSES
The Twin Trouble (Pre-PLA / Hisui Verse): The Subway Bosses conducts one of the biggest and toughest battle facility in Nimbasa City. Ingo pursues the ideal battles, and tries to create new ways and flairs to add. He wants to make sense of the world around them, thus, he enjoys when his philosophical questions are met with thoughtful responses from like-minded individuals.
Memories Faded (Hisui Verse- Takes Place During Ingo’s disappearance): Ingo does not remember how it happened, but he found himself in Hisui, a region whose name he had never heard… All he could remember was his own name. With the natural affinity he had for taming Pokemon, he was taken in by the Pearl Clan, allowing him the resources to make progress at making sense of his situation. He eventually became a warden, but he feels this is far from his true purpose. He is searching for the past he forgot, and tries to leave clues of his existence, though, he does not remember for whom.
He also grows his hair during this time, though he likes having short hair. His reflection with the long hair jogs his memory, for some reason.
Back Home (Post-PLA, Reunited with Emmet): After years, Ingo returns, but does so without his memories. He is met with someone in white, who is both overjoyed and yet troubled by his return. Ingo tries to make sense of this new, unfamiliar world after following a path of solitude for years, and… tries to understand if the forgotten bonds can be made anew. He fears disappointing his ‘brother’ and his ‘friends’, but, really, he cannot even remember who they were to him.

baeddel · 3 years
Note
Please. Please can you tell me what a baeddel is and why people (terfs?) used it in a derogatory manner on this website for a hot minute but now no one ever uses it at all
you asked for it, fucker
[2k words; philology and drama]
baeddel is an Old English word. i have no idea where it actually occurs in the Old English written corpus, but it occurs in a few placenames. its diminuitive form, baedling, is much better documented. it appears in the (untranslated) Canons of Theodore, a penitential handbook, a sort of guidebook for priests offering advice on what penances should be recommended for which sins. in a passage devoted to sexual transgressions it gives the penances suggested for a man who sleeps with a woman, a man who sleeps with another man, and then a man who sleeps with a baedling. so you have this construction of a baedling as something other than a man or a woman. and then it gives the penance for a baedling who sleeps with another baedling (a ludicrous one-year fast). then, by way of an explaination, Theodore delivers us one of the most enigmatic phrases in the Old English corpus: "for she is soft, like an adulturess."
the -ling suffix in baedling is masculine. but Theodore uses feminine pronouns and suffixes to describe baedlings. as we said, it's also used separately from male and female. but it's also used separately from their words for intersex and it never appears in this context. all of this means that you have this word that denotes a subject who is, as Christopher Monk put it, "of problematic gender." interested historians have typically interpreted it as referring to some category of homosexual male, such as Wayne R. Dines in his two-volume Encyclopedia of Homosexuality who discusses it in the context of an Old English glossary which works a bit like an Old English-Latin dictionary, giving Old English words and their Latin counterparts. the Latin words the Anglo-Saxon lexicographer chose to correspond with baedling were effeminatus and mollis, and Lang concludes that it refers to an "effeminate homosexual" (pg 60, Anglo Saxon). this same glossary gives as an Old English synonym the word waepenwifstere which literally means "woman with a penis," and which Dines gives the approximate translation (hold on tight) male wife.
R. D. Fulk, a philologist and medievalist, made a separate analysis of the term in his study on the Canons of Theodore 'Male Homoeroticism in the Old English Canons of Theodore', collected in Sex and Sexuality in Medieval England, 2004. he analysed it as a 'sexual category' (sexual as in sexuality), owing to the context of sexual transgressions in the Canons. he decides that it refers to a man who bottoms in sexual relationships with another man. i don't have the article on hand so i'm not sure what his reasoning was, but this seems obviously inadequate given what we know from the glossary described by Dines. Latin has a word for bottom, pathica, and the lexicographer did not use this in their translation, preferring words that emphasized the baedling's femininity like effeminatus, and doesn't address the sexual context at all. Dines, however, only reading this glossary, seems to decide that it refers to a type of male homosexual too hastily, considering the Canons explicitly treat them separately. both Dines and Fulk immediately reduce the baedling to a subcategory of homosexual when neither of the sources to hand actually do so themselves.
by now it should be obvious why, seven or so years ago, we interpreted it as an equivalent to trans woman. I mean come on - a woman with a penis! these days I tend to add a bit of a caution to this understanding, which is that trans woman is the translation of baedling which seems most adequate to us, just as baedling was the translation of effeminatus that seemed most adequate to our lexicographer. but the term cannot translate perfectly; its sense was derived from some minimal context; a legal context, a doctrinal context, and so forth... the way Anglo-Saxons understood sex/gender is complicated but it has been argued that they had a 'one sex model' and didn't regard men and women as biologically separate types, which is obviously quite different from the sexual model accepted today; in any case they didn't have access to the karyotype and so on. the basic categories they used to understand gender and sexuality were different from ours. in particular, Hirschfield et al. should be understood as a particularly revolutionary moment in the genealogy of transsexuality; the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft essentially invented the concept of the 'sex change', the 'transition', conceived as a biological passage from one sex to the other. even in other contexts where (forgive me) #girlslikeus changed their bodies in some way, like the castration of the priestesses of Cybele, or those belonging to the various historical societies which we believe used premarin for feminization [disputed; see this post], there is no record that they were ever considered men at any stage or had some kind of male biology that preceded their 'gender identity.' the concept of the trans woman requires the minimal context of the coercive assignment at birth and its subsequent (civil and bio-technological) rejection. i have never encountered evidence that this has ever been true in any previous society. nonetheless, these societies still had gendered relations, and essentially wherever we find these gendered relations we also find some subject which is omitted or for whom it has been necessary to note exceptions. what is of chief interest to us is not so much that there was such a subject here or there in history (and whatever propagandistic uses this fact might have), but understanding why these regularities exist.
a very parsimonious explanation is that gender is a biological reality, and there is some particular biological subject which a whole host of words have been conjured to denote. if this were the case then we would expect that, no matter what gender/sexual system we encounter in a given society, it will inevitably find some linguistic expression. if, like me, you find this idea revolting, then you should busy yourself trying to come up with an alternative explanation which is not just plausible, but more plausible. my best guesses are outside the scope of this answer...
anyway, all of this must be very interesting to the five or six people invested in the confluence of philology and gender studies. but why on earth did it become so widely used, in so many strange and unusual contexts, in the 2010s? we're very sorry, but yes, it's our fault. you see apart from all of this, there is also a little piece of information which goes along with the word baeddel, which is that it's the root of the Modern English word bad. by way of, no less, the word baedan, 'to defile'. how this defiled historical subject came to bear responsibility for everything bad to English-speakers doesn't seem to be known from linguistic evidence. however, it makes for a very pithy little remark on transmisogyny. my dear friend [REDACTED] made a playful little post making this point and, good Lord, had we only known...
it went like this. its such a funny little idea that we all start changing our urls to include the word baeddel. in those days it was common to make puns with your url (we always did halloween and christmas ones); i was baeddelaire, a play on the French poet Baudelaire. while we all still had these urls a series of events which everyone would like to forget happened, and we became Enemies of Everyone in the Whole World. because of the url thing people started to call us "the baeddels." then there was "a cult" called "the baeddels" and so forth. this cult had various infamies attatched to it and a constellation of indefensible political positions. ultimately we faced a metric fucking shit ton of harassment, including, for some of my friends, really serious and bad irl harassment that had long-term bad awful consequences relating to stable housing and physical safety and i basically never want to talk about that part of my life ever again. and i never have to, because i've come to realize that for most people, when they use the word baeddel, they don't know about that stuff. it doesn't mean that anymore.
so what does it mean? you'll see it in a few contexts. TERFs do use it, as you guessed. i am not quite sure what they really mean by it and how it differs from other TERF barbs. i think being a baeddel invovles being politically active or at least having a political consciousness, but in a way thats distinct from just any 'TRA' or trans activist. so perhaps 'militant' trans women, but perhaps also just any trans woman with any opinions at all. how this was transmitted from tumblr/west coast tranny drama to TERF vocabulary i have no idea. but you will also find - or, could have found a few years ago - i would say 'copycat' groups who didn't know us or what we believed but heard the rumours, and established their own (generously) organizations (usually facebook groups) dedicated to putting those principles into practice. they considered themselves trans lesbian separatists and did things like doxx and harass trans women who dated cafabs. if you don't know about this, yes, there really were such groups. they mostly collapsed and disappeared because they were evildoers who based their ideology on a caricature. i knew a black trans woman who was treated very badly by one of these groups, for predictable reasons. so long-time readers: if you see people talking about their bad experiences with 'baeddels', you can't necessarily relate it to the 2014 context and assume they're carrying around old baggage. there are other dreams in the nightmare.
the most common way you'll see it today, in my experience, is in this form: people will say that it was a "slur" for trans women. they might bring up that it's the root of the word bad, and they might even think that you shouldn't use the word bad because of it, or that you shouldn't use the word baeddel because it's a slur. all of this is a silly game of internet telephone and not worth addressing. except to say that it's by no means clear that baeddel, or baedling, were slurs, or even insulting at all. while Theodore doesn't provide us with a description of how we can have sex with a baedling without sinning, and it may be the case that any sexual relations with a baedling was considered sinful, sexuality-based transgressions were not taken all that seriously in those days. there was a period where homosexuality within the Church was almost sanctioned, and it wasn't until much later that homosexuality became so harshly proscribed, to the extent that it was thought to represent a threat to society, etc. and as i mentioned, there are places in England named after baedlings. there is a little parish near Kent which is called Badlesmere, Baeddel's Lake, which was recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Domesday Book (as having a lord, a handful of villagers and a few slaves; perhaps only one or two households). it's not unheard of, but i just don't know very many places called Faggot Town or some such. it's possible that baedlings had some role in Anglo-Saxon society which we are not aware of; it could even have been a prestigious one, as it was in other societies. there is just no evidence other than a couple of passing references in the literature and we'll probably never have a complete picture.

Acquiescence
Word Count: 1.9k
Reader: Gender Neutral
Warnings: Omegaverse, Beta reader/Omega Reader, swearing, ANGST, HURT/ Maybe slight comfort? Arranged Marriage, Alpha Kita Shinsuke, insecurity I think?, hidden relationship, old money, old blood, use of bearer as gender neutral replacement for mother, and alpha parent for father. Very very very slight fluff at the end. Let me know if I missed anything.
Well. It's Agony August so here's another one hehehe
Enjoy!
Tumblr media
As a beta, you never expected much in life.
You were not an Alpha, who were revered for their abilities.
You were not an Omega either, who are sought after for their rarity.
No, you were a beta. You are, by society's definition, normal.
Just like over a third of society, there was nothing that you could do to even stand out. Which was why you never understood why your boyfriend chose you.
Kita Shinsuke is the most sought after young alpha in Inarizaki, and possibly the entirety of Hyogo. You understood why, of course. The Kita Family are of old blood and old money, and your boyfriend is the only heir to the family.
So why was he, an alpha, with you, a beta?
Sure, no one knew that you were together, but why?
Was it because of your intelligence? Was it because of your long standing friendship with him? You were his friend since middle school, after all. Was it because of your family, who were just as old and full of history as his?
Or was it because he needed someone that he could claim if no omega catches his eye?
You have no idea. You never wanted to ask him either, for fear of his answer.
With a sigh, you headed to your class, anxiety creeping up on you like a vine on an iron gate. Something was going to go wrong today, although you weren't sure about the specifics. All you know is that something was going on.
"Hey, Y/n-chan. Did you hear?" Akagi asked as soon as you were on your chair in the classroom. You looked at your friend with a tilt on your head, the sinking feeling of a bad news slowly making itself known.
"What is it, Akagi-kun?" You asked, ignoring the way that your heart begged you to tell the volleyball libero that you weren't interested in anything he has to say.
"Kita has decided to court the newly bloomed omega."
Ah. There it is.
"Really? That's wonderful for the both of them."
You should've known. You should've known that this would happen. That Kita would drop you for an omega. He had never claimed you as his after all. He never even spoke up that he was dating you and despite your senses being slightly stronger than most betas your age, you can never smell him on you.
Despite his promise to stay by your side, he was still very much a traditionalist. The belief that alphas are meant for omegas just as omegas are meet for alphas is ingrained deep in him, a principle drilled in his mind the moment he understood the difference between the secondary genders.
It was in that moment that you knew, that you confirmed your suspicions and the thing that has been nagging at you since you said yes to a date with Kita.
He was only with you to pass the time, until he found an omega worthy of his attentions.
As you focused on class, you can't help but think how cruel Kita was.
And how stupid you were to even think that he truly liked you for you.
*****
You didn't need to talk to Kita about the rumours about his courting of an omega, for you saw it with your own eyes that very same day.
With a broken heart and a betrayed mind, you decided that your time is better spent focusing on your studies than to even confront Kita, and was therefore spent avoiding the alpha. Not like he sought you out anyway. It's been days since Akagi had told you the news, and your now ex-boyfriend has not even made a move to talk to you or contact you.
Although, that might be because you had changed your number and neglected to let him know, and that you have done anything you could to avoid him, and that included spending your lunch hours in the rooftop and your free periods in the secluded areas of the library.
But your luck had run out, and so you found yourself cornered in the school gates by Kita.
"You have been avoiding me."
You shrugged off his hand on your arm with a soft smile. A smile of understanding, of acquiescence.
"I have. It wouldn't do your courtship well if your omega thought that there was an unmated person that is not your relative."
You saw him flinch slightly, guilt in his eyes for abandoning you so quickly. You wanted to laugh. To cry and scream and be angry at him.
But you were tired. Weariness had seeped into your bones, just like how sufferance had settled in your brain and heartache made itself known in your heart.
You wanted to break down, just like you had when you had gotten home that day, but you couldn't. Not in public, and definitely not in front of him. That was not what you were taught.
You swallowed and turned around from him, whispering your next words so that only he could hear.
"I hope you don't regret choosing an omega over me, your long time friend and lover, Shinsuke."
*****
You had officially cut off any ties with Kita just last week after you left him standing guiltily by the gates of Inarizaki.
It was the eve of your birthday, and you stayed up late, letting your mind wander.
Alone in your thoughts, you let your questions take over your mind.
Would Kita still be yours if you were an omega?
Would he truly love you if you were an omega?
…Did he even love you at all?
Tears slipped down your face as insecurity after insecurity filled your brain, betrayal and heartbreak pouring off of you in waves. It was unfair, that you had to go through this all because of the fact that you were a beta.
The clock struck twelve, signalling the arrival of your 18th birthday. Just as you were about to wipe your tears, a searing pain made you scream out, waking everyone in your home. One of your parents ran into your room, took one look at your writhing, sweating form in your bed and one sniff of the sweet scent filling the air and gasped loudly.
"Call Nana."
"What? Why?"
"Y/n has bloomed into an omega."
*****
You opened your eyes with a groan. Your whole body was sore, and your throat was in pain, hoarse and dry from screaming.
"Y/n? Hun? How are you feeing?" Your bearer asked, handing you a glass of water that you quickly chugged.
"Sore and in pain. What time is it? What happened?"
"It's 11am of Thursday. You bloomed into an omega, child." Your alpha parent stated from the doorway.
"Oh."
That was surprising. Sure, omegas has bloomed late, your own cousin having bloomed at the age of 20. But you never thought you would go through it too.
"You know what this means, right?" Your bearer asked you, and you reluctantly nodded.
Omegas from your family are matched away to someone their age as soon as they bloom. It was tradition and not one has strayed from it.
Your family is not about to let you do it either.
"Good. Continue resting. Tomorrow, you go back to school and your match will be picking you up. Play nice to him, please. He'll be taking the train from Tokyo."
You could only nod and hope that it goes well.
*****
Your arrival to school and all eyes were on you, your new scent souring slightly in displeasure. You knew that you'd receive looks from blooming as an omega but you didn't expect everyone you pass by to look at you.
Still, you tolerated it, sticking close to your beta and mated alpha friends to keep any unmated alphas from approaching you. It worked for the most part, but your luck ran out at the end of the day.
Kita's scent assaulted your senses while you waited for your match at the school gates. He was standing beside you, waiting for you to address him, but you kept your focus on your phone.
"So... You're an omega now."
You looked up and raised a brow at Kita. That was hardly a proper greeting, and you were very much tempted to ignore him.
But in respect to your past friendship with him, you didn't.
"Yes. Why are you asking?"
"Do you have an alpha yet?"
"Again, why are you asking?"
"Y/n... We have known each other for a long time. I could stop my courtship with-"
You glared at him, your scent turning sour and angry both for yourself and the omega that Kita had been courting. The change in your scent caused the attention of the gossiping students that were all waiting for someone too.
"Stop right there. How dare you even try that."
"Y/n, please. I want you back."
You looked at him incredulously. You couldn't believe it. Kita wanted you back.
But you knew better now. He didn't want you. he wanted your omega.
So you shook your head and steeled yourself before laughing at his face.
"I don't want an alpha like you, Kita-san." You said, making him look at you in shock. Before he could speak up, you continued talking. "I don't want an alpha that dropped their beta lover as soon as an omega caught their attention."
You could hear the gasps that was caused by your words.
"But I didn't-"
"That's what you did to me, Shinsuke." You spat out, glaring at him even further. "I had to hear from someone else that you decided to court an omega. You didn't even have the decency to break up with me properly. I don't want that. I don't want you."
You knew that you rendered him silent, and that the rest of Inarizaki High would know about yours and Kita's past relationship. You prayed that your match would arrive soon. You didn't want to talk to Kita anymore, your head throbbing in anger and your heart cracking in pain. Your omega howled in agony at the fact that you had been rejected before you could even bloom, and the last thing you and your omega wanted is to be around Kita any longer than you already had been.
"Hey! Y/n, I'm so sorry I'm late."
Luckily for you, a very bulky figure walked up to you with a very bright smile, one that you couldn't help but reciprocate. His scent appealed to you better than Kita's ever did, and your omega preened at it.
"It's fine, Bokuto. I haven't been waiting for long."
"I told you to call me Koutarou. And still. It wasn't fair of me to make a gorgeous person like you wait at all. How about I get us something you want?"
You ignored Kita and focused on Bokuto, catching the way he referred to you as a person rather than an omega.
"I'd love to. And thank you for the compliment. Why did you use person specifically?"
Bokuto smiled at you and lend his arm out, waiting for you to take it. And you did, waiting for his answer.
"You're more than your secondary gender." He said, and your eyes went teary.
In a world where secondary genders dictated one's place in society, it's refreshing to find someone that didn't care much about it.
Kita watched as Bokuto led you out, his own heart slowly breaking.
He walked away, heart and mind reluctantly accepting that you were gone from his life.
He lost you, his best friend, his lover, over his own doing.
And he knew, with the way you're smiling at the alpha that you were holding on to, that he will never get you back.
Perhaps he deserved it, for betraying your trust and breaking your heart.

I’ve been reading some articles about lesbian identities in Indonesia, from the late 80s to the 00s, and wanted to share some quotes that highlighted a couple trends that I’ve also noticed in reading about butch/femme communities in other countries.
1) There are different expectations about sexual distinctiveness and marriage to men are attached to butch and femme identities. There is a greater expectation that femmes will marry men, and femmes more often do marry men, though some butches do as well. Marriages to men seem to be for convenience or in name only, and women may continue to have female lovers.
2) Distinctions are made between real/pure/positive lesbians (butches) and other lesbians (femmes) who are “potentially normal.” This shows the flexibility of lesbian identity, where they can be gradations and contradictions in what it means to be a lesbian (e.g. a woman being a lesbian but not a “real lesbian"). The category has cores and peripheries, rather than everyone being equally lesbian or else completely outside of it.
3) There are disagreements between members, which cross butch/femme lines, about the meanings of these identities and whose lesbianism or community involvement should be taken seriously. The first passage describes femmes as engaging in a “more active appropriation of lesbianism as a core element of their subjectivity.” The boundaries of lesbianism can potentially expand or contract as people struggle to define it.
4) People don’t always meet the community expectations attached to their identity.
I think these passages help complicate the picture of what lesbian identities can look like, and some of these same tensions and debates are common features of lesbian identity in many different cultures. I also think these issues--the (differential) weight given to relationships with men, the notion of positive versus negative lesbians, and the active appropriation of lesbianism by peripheral members--are relevant to bisexual interest, since these questions also shape bi women’s engagement in lesbianism/lesbian communities. (And we can say that without claiming that any particular women in these narratives are “really bisexual.”)
Anyway, without further ado... (this first one picks up right in the middle of a passage because I couldn’t get the previous page on the google preview :T)
From “Desiring Bodies or Defiant Cultures: Butch-Femme Lesbians in Jakarta and Lima,” by Saskia E. Wieringa, in Female Desires: Same-Sex Relations and Transgender Practices Across Cultures, eds. Evelyn Blackwood and Saskia E. Wieringa, 1999:
“[...]negative lesbians. We are positive lesbians. We are pure, 100% lesbian. With them you can never know. Before you know it, they are seeing a man again, and we are given the good-bye.”
Father Abraham, who had entered during her last words, took over. “Let me explain. … Take Koes. Again and again her girlfriends leave her. Soon she’ll be old and lonely. Who will help her then? For these girls it is just an adventure, while for butches like Koes it is their whole life.”“Yes, well, Abraham, … my experience is limited, of course, but it seems to me that the femmes flee the same problems that make life so hard for the butches. So they’d rather support each other.”
“In any case,” Sigit added, ‘they have become active now, that’s why they’re here, isn’t that so?” And she looked questioningly at the three dolls behind the typing machine, Roekmi and my neighbour. The most brazen femme had been nodding in a mocking manner while Sigit and I were talking.
“So we’re only supposed to be wives? We’re not suited for something serious, are we? Maybe we should set up a wives’ organization, Dharma Wanita,[23] the Dharma Wanita PERLESIN? Just like all those other organizations of the wives of civil servants and lawyers?” …
“Come on, Ari,” Sigit insisted, “why don’t you just ask them? You could at least ask them whether they want to join?” Ari found it extremely hard. Helplessly she looked at the other butches.
“Do you really mean that i should ask whether our wives would like to join / our / organization?” One of the butches nodded.
“Ok, fine.” She directed herself to the dolls.
“Well, what do you want? Do you want to join us? But in that case you shouldn’t just say yes, then you should also be involved with your whole heart.”
“You never asked that of the others,” the brazen femme pointed out, “but yes, I will definitely dedicate myself to the organization.” Roekmi and the two femmes at her side also nodded. (Wieringa 1987:89-91)
The above example is indicative of the social marginalization of the b/f community. it also captures in it one of its moments of transformation. The defiance of the femmes of the code that prescribes the division of butches and femmes into “positive” and “negative” lesbians respectively indicates a more active appropriation of lesbianism as a core element of their subjectivity. At the same time it illustrates the hegemony of the dominant heterosexual culture with its gendered principles of organization.
Yet, however much the butches conformed to male gender behavior they didn’t define themselves as male; their relation to their bodies was rather ambiguous. at times they defined themselves as a third sex, which is nonfemale[…]. [...] [Butches’] call for organization was not linked to a feminist protest against rigid gender norms. Rather they felt that nature had played a trick on them and they they had to devise ways to confront the dangers to which this situation gave rise. Jakarta’s b/f lesbians when I met them in the early eighties were not in the least interested in feminism. In fact, the butches among them were more concerned with the case of a friend of them who was undergoing a sex change operation. They clearly considered it an option, but none of them decided to follow this example. When I asked them why, all of them mentioned the health risks involved and the costs. None of them stated that they rather preferred their own bodies. Their bodies, although the source of sexual pleasure and as such the object of constant attention, didn’t make it any too easy for them to get the satisfaction they sought or, at least, to attract the partners they desired.
From "Let Them Take Ecstasy: Class and Jakarta Lesbians," by Alison J. Murray, in Female Desires: Same-Sex Relations and Transgender Practices Across Cultures, eds. Evelyn Blackwood and Saskia E. Wieringa, 1999:
Covert lesbian activities are thus an adaptation to the ideological context, where the distinction between hidden and exposed sexual behavior allows for fluidity in sexual relations (“everyone could be said to be bisexual” according to Oetomo 1995) as long as the primary presentation is heterosexual/monogamous. It is not lesbian activity that has been imported from the West, but the word lesbi used to label the Western concept of individual identity based on a fixed sexuality. I have not found that Indonesian women like to use the label to describe themselves, since it is connected to unpleasant stereotypes and the pathological view of deviance derived from Freudian psychology (cf Foucault 1978).
The concept of butch-femme also has a different meaning in Indonesia from the current Western use which implies a subversion of norms and playful use of roles and styles (cf Nestle 1992). In Indonesia (and other parts of Southeast Asia, such as the Philippines, Thailand’s tom-and-dee: Chetame 1995) the roles are quite strictly, or restrictively, defined and are related to popular, pseudo-psychological explanations of the “real” lesbian. In the simple terms of popular magazines, the butch (sentul) is more than 50% lesbian, or incurably lesbi, while the femme (kantil) is less than 50% lesbian, or potentially normal. Blackwood’s (1994) description of her secretive relationship with a butch-identified woman in Sumatra brings up some cross-cultural differences and difficulties that they experienced and could not speak about publicly. The Sumatran woman adopted masculine signifies and would not be touched sexually herself; she wanted to be called “pa” by Blackwood, who she expected to behave as a “good wife.” Meanwhile, Blackwood’s own beliefs, as well as her higher status due to class and ethnicity, made it hard to take on the passive female role.
I want to emphasize here that behavior needs to be conceptually separated from identity, as both are contextually specific and constrained by opportunity. It is common for young women socialized into a rigid heterosexual regime, in Asia or the West, to experience their sexual feelings in terms of gender confusion: “If I am attracted to women, then I must be a man trapped in a woman’s body.” Women are not socialized to seek out a sexual partner (of any kind), or to be sexual at all, so an internal “feeling” may never be expressed unless there are role models or opportunities available. If the butch-femme stereotype, as presented in the Indonesian popular media, is the only image of lesbians available outside the metropolis (e.g., in Sumatra), then this may affect how women express their feelings. However, urban lower-class lesbians engage in a range of styles and practices: some use butch style consciously to earn peer respect, while others reject the butch as out-dated. The stereotype of all lower-class lesbians whether following butch-femme roles or conforming to one subcultural pattern is far from the case and reflects the media and elite’s lack of real knowledge about street life. […]
The imagery of sickness creates powerful stigmatization and internalized homophobia: women may refer to themselves as sakit (sick). An ex-lover of mine in Jakarta is quite happy to state a preference for women while at the same time expressing disgust at the word lesbi and at the sight of a butch dyke; however, I have generally found that the stigma around lesbian labels and symbols is not translated into discrimination against individuals based on their sexual activities. I have been surprised to discover how many women in Jakarta will either admit to having sex with women or to being interested in it, but again, this is only rarely accompanied by an open lesbian (or bisexual) identity. I have found it hard to avoid the word “lesbian” to refer to female-to-female sexual relations, but it should not be taken to imply a permanent self-identity. It is very important to try and understand the social contexts of behavior, in order to avoid drawing conclusions based on inappropriate Western notions of lesbian identity, community, or “queer” culture.
From “Beyond the ‘Closet’: The Voices of Lesbian Women in Yogyakarta,” by Tracy L Wright Webster, 2004:
Most importantly a supportive community group of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women is essential, given that these sexualities are thrust together in Sektor 15. Potentially, a group comprised of women from each of these categories, that is lesbian, bisexual or transgender, may prove problematic to say the least, given that the needs and issues of each group are different. Clearly the informal communities already in existence in Yogya are indicators of this. Any formal or organized groupings would certainly benefit by modeling on current, though informal organisations. In the lesbian network, transgendered women (those who wish to become men or who consider themselves male) are not affiliated, however many ‘femme’ identified women who have been and intend to be involved in heterosexual relationships in the future, are among the group in partnership with their ‘butch’ pacar (Indo: girlfriend/boyfiend/lover).
Organisations of women questioning sexuality have existed in Yogya in the past. A butch identified respondent said she was involved in the formation of a lesbian, bisexual and transgender network in collaboration with another Indonesian woman, who also identified as butch, 20 years her senior. The group was called Opo (Javanese:what) or Opo We (Jav:whatever), the name highlighting that any issue could be discussed or entered into within the group. Members were an amalgam of both of the women’s friends and acquaintances. The underlying philosophy of the group was that “regardless of a woman’s life experience, marriage, children…it is her basic human right to live as a lesbian if she has the sexual inclination”. The elder founding member of this group, now 46, married a man and had a child. She now lives with her husband (in name only), child and female partner in the same home. Although this arrangement according to the interviewee “is rare… because the husband is there, she is spared the questions from the neighbours”. Here I must add that it is common in Java for lesbians to marry to fulfill their social role as mothers, and then to separate from their husbands to live their lives in partnership with a woman. This trend however is more common among the ‘femme’ group.
From "(Re)articulations: gender and same-sex subjectivities in Yogyakarta, Indonesia," by Tracy Wright Webster, in Intersections: Gender and Sexuality in Asia and the Pacific, Issue 18, Oct 2008:
Lesbi subjectivities Since gender, for the most part, determines sexuality in Java, sexuality and gender cannot be analysed as discrete categories.[64] For all of the self-identified butchi participants, lesbi was the term used to describe their sexuality. This is contrary to the findings of two key researchers of female same-sex sexuality in Indonesia. Alison Murray's research in Jakarta in the 1980s suggests that females of same-sex attraction did not like the term 'lesbian'[65] due to its connection with 'unpleasant stereotypes' and deviant pathologies.[66] In 1995, Gayatri found that media representations depicting lesbi as males trapped in female bodies encouraged same-sex attracted women to seek new, contemporary descriptors.[67] The participants in this research, however, embraced the term lesbi as an all-encompassing descriptor of female same-sex attraction and as Boellstorff has noted in 2000, Indonesian lesbi tend to see themselves as part of a wider international lesbian network.[68]
The term lesbi has been used in Indonesia since the 1980s, although not commonly or consistently. Lines, les, lesbian, lesbo, lesbong and L, among others, are also used. Female same-sex/lesbi subjectivities in Yogya are not strongly associated with political motivations and the subversion of heteropatriarchy as they were among the Western lesbian feminists of the 1960s. By the time most of the participants in this research were born, the term lesbi had already become infused in Indonesian discourses of sexuality among the urban elite (though with negative connotations in most cases), and has since become commonly used both by females of same-sex attraction to describe themselves, and by others. Most learnt from peers at school and through reading Indonesian magazines.
However, public use of the term lesbi and expression of lesbi subjectivity has its risks. Murray's research on middle to upper class lesbians suggests that females identifying as lesbi have more to lose than lower class lesbi in terms of social position and the power invested in that class positioning. This is particularly in relation to their position in the family.[69] Conversely, her work also shows that lower class lesbi 'have the freedom to play without closing off their options.'[70] As Aji suggests, young females, particularly of the priyayi class may not be in a position to resist the social stigma attached to lesbianism and the possible consequences of rejection or abuse. Yusi faced this reality despite the fact that s/he had not declared herself lesbi. Hir gendered subjectivity meant that s/he did not conform to stereotypical feminine ideals and desires.
With so much at stake, many lesbi remain invisible. Heteronormative and feminine gendered expectations for females in part explain why lesbians may indeed be the 'least known population group in Indonesia.'[71] Collusion in invisibility can be seen here as a protective strategy. The lesbi community or keluarga (family) is what Murray refers to as a 'strategic community' of the lesbian subculture.[72] The strategic nature of the community lies in its sense of protection: the community provides a safe haven for disclosure. Invisibility, however, also arises through the factors I mentioned earlier: the normative feminine representations of femme, their tendency to express lesbi subjectivity only while in partnership with a butchi, and their tendency to marry. Invisibility, as a form of discretion, however, may also be chosen.
Gender complementary butchi/femme subjectivities [...] Due to the apparently fixed nature of butchi identities and subjectivities and their reluctance to sleep with males, they are seen as 'true lesbians,'[79] lesbian sejati, an image perpetuated through the media.[80] Similar to the butchi/femme communities in Jakarta, in Yogya, butchi are identified by their strict codes of dress and behaviour which include short hair, sometimes slicked back with gel, collared button up shirts and trousers bought in menswear stores, large-faced watches and bold rings. Butchi characteristically walk with a swagger and smoke in public places. In her research in the 1980s, Wieringa noticed that within lesbi communities in Jakarta the strict 'surveillance and socialisation 'may have contributed to the fixed nature of butchi identities.[81] In Yogya, this is particularly evident in the socialisation of younger lesbi by senior lesbi (a theme I explore elsewhere in my current research).
The participants held individual perspectives on butchness. Aji's butchness is premised on hir masculine gender subjectivity and desire for a partner of complementary gender. Yusi expresses hir butchness differently and relates it to dominance in the relationship and in sex play. The participants who told of the sexual roles within the relationship emphasised their active butchi roles during sex. As Wieringa suggests, this does not necessarily imply femme passivity as femme 'stress their erotic power over their butches.'[82] It does, however, indicate one way in which the butchi I interviewed articulate their sexual agency.
Femme subjectivities, on the other hand, are generally conceived of as transient. As many of the interviews illustrate, femme are expected by their butchi partners to marry and have children: butchi see them as bisexual. In public, and indeed if they marry, they are seen as heterosexual, though their heterosexual practice may not be exclusive. In the 1980s, Wieringa observed that femme 'dressed in an exaggerated fashion, in dresses with ribbons and frills...always wore make up and high heels.'[83] In the new millennium, the femme I met were also fashion savvy though not in an exaggerated sense. Generally they wore hip-hugging, breast-accentuating tight gear, had long hair and wore lipstick and low-heeled pumps. Their feminine representations were stereotypical: it was through association with butchi with in the lesbi community that femme subjectivities become visible.

Author Spotlight: Edale Lane
Today, we’re excited to bring you a blog post from Edale Lane about one of our book club books, Walks with Spirits.
Walks with Spirits Blog Post
How would you like to live in a world where LGBTQ persons are honored and respected? The one I grew up in was exactly the opposite. Shame and exclusion awaited anyone whose life hinted at other than the accepted normal. By the time I was six years old, I understood two vital things about myself: I liked little girls more than little boys (who I viewed as equal playmates, not romantic interests), and I could tell no one, but must at all times act otherwise. At each stage of life, I considered it to be a phase I would grow out of and if I just kept pretending to be “normal” everything would work out.
It wasn’t until at thirty years old, a mother and a widow, I arrived at a different conclusion. A brunette can dye her hair blonde, but the roots will still come in dark; one can wear colored contact lens, but underneath her eyes remain the same as before. I could keep living a lie or allow myself the freedom to be who I was born to be. Drawing on my Biblical upbringing, I reconsidered the words of Jesus: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” The truth is God loves everyone just the way we are, in all our infinite array of variety, without prejudice or demanding we cease to be the marvelous unique persons it was His pleasure to create. The problem never lay with God, but with people and their narrow interpretations.
My book, Walks with Spirits, is set in a time and place where religious leaders taught it was a blessing to be of two spirits, and society did not assign lesser status to those who loved members of their own gender. Women were leaders alongside men and more respect was afforded to peace-makers than warriors. Of what fantasy world do I speak? None, but rather an actual civilization that pre-dated ours. Was it perfect? Far from it, as humans will be human, and some choose to be malicious and judgmental despite what their elders teach. Just because it was accepted, doesn’t mean life was easy for lesbians, gays, and transgender members of society; they faced the same trials, dangers, and expectations as everyone else in town.
I am a deeply spiritual person, and the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest were, and are, a profoundly spiritual society. The more I studied their beliefs, the more similarities I found they shared with my own. Just to be clear, Native American studies was not the emphasis of my Master’s Degree in History, nor do I claim to be an expert in that culture, but I know how to do my homework and was fortunate to work with an Indigenous sensitivity reader to ensure my novel, though a work of fiction, is accurate and non-offensive. It may delve into the details of another culture and expound upon spiritual principles, but Walks with Spirits is primarily a love story between two women who must learn and grow through difficult circumstances on the way to their happily-ever-after.

oooh my fave ladies. im transmasc so this made me happy aha. going with a pre-entity narrative.
WARNINGS: none
AMANDA YOUNG / THE PIG
• Thinks “I don’t care, I don’t see you any different,” is a supportive and reassuring statement. She’s not unaccepting by any means, but her approach of indifference is understandably a little off-putting.
• In most contexts, Amanda reacts to being corrected with an only barely-passive ferocity, but with you, who she doesn’t feel she needs to constantly defend herself around, she’s more open to addressing her mistakes.
• Likely the type to apologize excessively after using the wrong name, and though you have to assure her it isn’t a big deal, just to correct herself afterward, she gets through this personal hurdle easily enough. She starts using nicknames indicative of your real name to help remind herself, which also functions as a way for her to comfortably express affection.
• Amanda will do some research and a fair amount of reading on her own; she understands that constantly having to correct and inform others about your identity is horribly tiring, and while she knows she can always go to you with any questions, she genuinely wants to be well informed and to be able to be supportive girlfriend.
• If you operate as an apprentice of John’s teachings, she would be open to privately inform John on the matter so he can address you properly going forward. Though a core principle of his faith, judgement will not be directed your way. If you’d rather notify him yourself, or not at all, she respects your choice and will know not to intrude.
• Though known (at least by those close) as the queen of awful, post-breakdown haircuts, when calm and of mind, she has a steady, articulate hand and would cut your hair if you ever wanted, already possessing the instruments for such an occasion. Don’t expect anything stylish, though; her experience comes exclusively from regular trims to keep her hair out of the way while working, not for stylish purposes.
• You bring it up in an evidently joking manner, but Amanda seriously considers kidnapping a doctor to perform any surgeries you’d want. You appreciate the gesture, or the consideration behind it, but you’re likely to turn the idea down. While you may construct brutal instruments of torture and experiment on very unwilling subjects, you still have some standards.
• Amanda will make sure to tell you how handsome you are at any given chance (though never in the presence of company, attributed to her embarrassment over expressing endearment of any sort). Now matter how often she says it, it never loses its sentiment or genuinity. It’s always spoken with a tender authenticity. Despite this, there’s still an aching in her chest at times, wondering so often if you’re aware of just how much she cares for you and how dearly she wishes she could express that.
SUSIE / THE LEGION
• More than understanding. While she originates from a time, not even terribly long ago, where matters like that weren’t very publicly addressed, she’s quickly accepting and very open to learning.
• Zero tolerance for assholes. She knows not to speak over you on matters that she has no part in, but will not stand for dickheads who knowingly and repeatedly misgender or deadname you. She’s quick to alert strangers, too, even if they meant well.
• Pretty fast to adjust to using your correct name. Uses lovey nicknames often, somewhat like Amanda, which also helps to remind her.
• Susie’s incredibly thrilled to call you her boyfriend. The change of title comes easy. Some nicknames she likes as well include cookie, babes, and hotshot—anything exceedingly tacky and sounds like it comes from a fifties high school romcom.
• None of the rest of the Legion give you any trouble, and are surprisingly but welcomingly supportive. Most deriving from unstable home lives and having faced some degree of ostracization themselves, they’re fairly understanding, even the hard-assed Frank. Bigots are usually the subject of their teenage exploits, and if they catch anyone giving you a hard time they make a point to jot them down as a future target.
• Susie would love to help you dye your hair if you ever wanted to (and she’d pushed you to consider it before), though despite routinely dying her own, she’s not very good at it, usually depending on Julie’s directions. Expect your bathroom counter and sink to be stained for some weeks afterward.
• Transitioning in school is never fun, and it’s an extensive process to formally change your name and gender on official records. Your deadname, sadly, will be a constant during the school day, but Susie makes a point to use your correct name, no matter if she’s with you or not. If you’re alright with it, she’ll correct other students.
• With a surprising effort of strength, she peels off the yellowed tape she had used to write your name on her personalized mixtape for you, redressing it with the proper name. Returning it to you, you see the case has been updated with a dressing of glitter stickers and a heart in pink pen.
• Will gladly go clothes shop(lifting) with you, but also is just as ok if you’re fine with your current wardrobe or ever ask to borrow from hers. Either way, keep a constant eye on your hoodies—any she finds lying around are considered up-for-grabs.
• Susie is cautiously worried about having to now compete for your attention when your female classmates gradually start expressing interest in you. It’s a little illogical, considering you two were already officially dating; still, some reassurance is always appreciated, whether or not she expresses it.
• While she will inevitably slip up from time to time, you always feel comfortable bringing that up with her. You’re never met with sudden defensiveness or hostile confusion, but rather an open and considerate mind, even if she doesn’t understand entirely. She learns quickly and is thankful for your input, even more so that you feel like you’re able to talk to her about such matters. Susie would never want you to stay silent on issues like that.

Park Dates
This took way too long for me to make, because I wanted to give a good first post. Love all of you though. - Ghost Description: Soft, cute dates in the park with your faves. Reader: Gender Neutral | Characters: Phantom Thieves | Genre: Fluff
Published Date: October 20th, 2020
Tumblr media
Akira Kurusu
➳ The park wasn’t out of the question for you two to go out on dates. It was always in the rotation of date spots. However, it was definitely one of his favorites due to them being so much calmer than most places. Akira is a bit of an introvert himself, preferring a soothing place like the park over a busy café or the arcade, especially when spending time with his significant other.
➳ On special occasions, you two would go for a boat ride or have a picnic together. Most of the time, though, you two would just walk around. Your hands always intertwined together, almost like they were glued together. Sometimes conversation would flow casually about what went on that week, but sometimes you two would enjoy the local nature together.
➳ While on your weekend walks, he’ll sometimes give you kisses on your hand tenderly. Giving you the softest eyes after he kisses your hand. (God, he was always the charmer.) Sometimes, if he’s feeling especially gutsy, he’ll even give you a proper kiss beside a tree. The kiss is never too long as he doesn’t want to make the park goers uncomfortable, but it’s always enough to leave your heart fluttering.
Tumblr media
Ryuji Sakamoto
➳ I don’t know if running counts as a date, but your park ‘dates’ are always early morning runs. Ryuji has been determined to get back up to par for the Phantom Thieves, his significant other, and most importantly himself. He knows he won’t be an athlete again like he was, but he wants to feel like that again.
➳ The first few times, you are just the time keeper. Keeping track of his improved times and being emotional support. Every time he gets better, though, he gets a little kiss as a reward. While that’s some definite encouragement though, however he wants you to start running with him. And he brings it up every single time.
➳ Eventually, you do crack though. Those damn puppy dog eyes finally melted your soul. Needless to say, though, it goes about as well as you expected. He completely beats you out and is so far ahead of you that it’s not even fair. When you do catch up, you are nearly out of breath and desperate for water and ramen. After that, the morning run roles become switch up every lap. Both of you giving kisses after the other improves their times.
Tumblr media
Ann Takamaki
➳ Most of your dates honestly aren’t at the park. It’s not that Ann doesn’t like to go to the park, it’s just that she has things she’d rather do together. However, when you do go to the park, it’s usually when one of you is stressed out.
➳ When she’s stressed, it’s usually due to school or work. Most of the time, you’ll take her to the park and have a cute picnic together. Usually the picnic will include something simple like homemade sandwiches and whatever attempt at crepes you made. (She appreciates it no matter the quality, promise.) While you sit by the water, enjoying lunch, she’ll vent about her troubles to you. After the long vent, she’ll finally just lay down in the grass. Breathing out as if she’s letting the pressure get off her chest. She simple appreciates your presence nearby.
➳ When you’re stressed, she’ll drag you to the park. Ann will surprise you with your favorite seasonal treat, letting you vent like you do for her. Whatever stresses, she’ll listen and give you comforting words. She’ll give advice if she can, but either way she’s a shoulder for you to cry on or vent to whenever you need.
Tumblr media
Yusuke Kitagawa
➳ Going to the park was initially your poorly done, flirting tactic. Yusuke usually went there for inspiration, something new to paint. You’d always tag along, trying to get close to him. He’d always let you come with, happy to have a figure to draw with the ever changing lighting by the lake.
➳ Even after you start dating, you two still go to the park together fairly often. Sometimes he needed to go to do an assignment for class, sometimes to drum up inspiration. Occasionally, you’d attempt to draw with him. No matter your skill level, he’d always praise your work, highly encouraging of growing artists. Plus, he secretly loves you taking an interest in his passion.
➳ Park dates become a regular thing between you two. Besides the inspiration, it gives a quiet space to talk together at the end of a long week of fighting shadows and balancing school like the teenage vigilante he is. It’s even more needed if you two aren’t in the same classes or different schools entirely. While he’s not the most physically affectionate, he definitely tells you loving flowery words every date. Usually about how nice you look, your artwork, or even just about you in general. Making it all worth those moments apart.
Tumblr media
Makoto Niijima
➳ Park dates are always during exam season. It’s a new place to study and keeps both of you from being trapped up in a room over a textbook. Plus, the libraries and cafes are usually crowded up with students studying. A study buddy is always good, especially when she’s ridiculously intelligent.
➳Usually between studying biology and English, you’ll people watch. Not in a judgmental way, but definitely pointing out what people are doing. Guessing their ages, what they are doing at the park. Your favorite is guessing the boat couples, seeing what they are up to. (One time you swore you saw Akira and Yusuke on a boat, but Makoto kept denying it.)
➳ The dates aren’t romantic, because they aren’t really traditional dates in a way. It’s just spending time together, which is all that matters. She’s trying to help you improve and you for her. Hearing her speak and help to correct your English pronunciation is more than enough. Also, your grades are looking beautiful after a date with your girlfriend. So bonus.
Tumblr media
Futaba Sakura
➳ Let’s be real, you are the one who drags her to the park. She doesn’t ask to go. The goal is to get her to see some sunlight. It’s not too busy for her anxiety, especially when Akihabara is just too much to handle for you or her. Sojiro or Akira help you out with the convincing to get her to the park, after all someone has to get her outside.
➳ When you get there, you do one of two things: An ARG game, or reading manga together. With the ARG game (think Pokémon GO for reference), you two will wander around collecting items for whatever ARG she’s obsessed with. If she convinces you to download it, you two will run around trying to out compete each other to get the most items and level up the quickest. By the end of it, the winner will be gloating til you both end up laughing on the grass at how silly the taunts get.
➳ If it’s just the two of you reading manga, then it’s honestly pretty relaxing. You’ll share the book. The two of you somewhere reading a volume of hers or your current favorite manga to share in each other’s interests. Futaba will react as she’s reading, which is adorable, but don’t bring it up or she’ll stop. Sometimes she falls asleep, leaning on your shoulder. Maybe it’s good you two got out of the house.
Tumblr media
Haru Okumura
➳ You were friends with Haru before you even began dating her, or even knew her. The local park had a community garden that both of you would go to and help tend every week. You didn’t even know she was a celebrity, just that she was a talented gardener. It was eventually how you two ended up together.
➳ It became a tradition for you two to once a week check on the garden with a few other community members, then take a walk together. While walking, you’ll pick a vendor of the week to buy treats for. It changes every week who pays, even though Haru repeatedly says she can pay over and over. It’s the principle of thing.
➳ The conversations tend to revolve around her trying to get ideas for Okumura Foods. It’s a bit consuming for her thoughts a lot of the time, especially after her father’s passing. You’ll try to pass back-and-forth ideas with her on new ways to help the company. Sometimes the goal of the ‘ideas’ is just to destress Haru and make her laugh. You give a few helpful ideas on occasion though, and she credits you frequently in her next meeting.

It's 2021, and I'm watching Buffy for the first time.
The Virgil on my Buffy journey is my long-distance girlfriend, who has loved the show for years. We just finished season 4, and I wanted to write about my favorite episodes so far. I suspect some of my faves are beloved by most fans, but others are weird, personal picks. Buffy fandom, please don't come for me.
I thought this post would be short but I was wrong.
Hono(u)rable Mentions: "Band Candy" S3E6 and "Halloween" S2E6
Both these episodes have fun premises where the Scoobies run around Sunnydale after it was upended by zany, chaotic dark forces. "Band Candy" is fun for devil-may-care teen Giles. "Halloween" is fun for 18th-century-ditz Buffy. These are both very good, and are the sorts of episode I can imagine happily rewatching in the future. I just have more to pontificate upon for the other episodes on this list.
10. "Ted" S2E11
I can’t say I enjoyed this episode, but it did take me for a wild ride. Probably nobody else has strong feelings about this weird story where Buffy's mom dates a stereotypical cheesy family man, who turns out to be a controlling abuser, who turns out to be a robot. I remember shouting at the screen, "Did Buffy just kill a human man?? Is it okay in the moral logic of this show for Buffy to kill a human if he's a direct physical threat to her??" I knew Buffy would have deeper stories than the monster of the week formula we'd seen so far, but this early in season 2, I had no idea when or how that would happen. This was the episode that finally taught me that Buffy is largely not interested in moral ambiguity, or in exploring what it means to be good or bad. Except for season-defining exceptions like Faith and Angel, evil characters are simplistically, essentially evil. But it was wild to believe for a moment that Buffy murdered her mom's abusive boyfriend and would have to live with the consequences.
9. "Helpless" S3E12
When Buffy tries to be genuinely scary, it succeeds with aplomb. The premise of this episode is dumb and contrived ("Giles has to remove Buffy's powers without her knowledge for a seeeecret test by the Watcher's Council") but the chase and fight in this episode are some of the most tense and spooky scenes of the whole series so far. Buffy's vulnerability makes the stakes feel real in a way few other episodes manage. And Buffy's victory is all the more satisfying because she can't punch her way out of this problem, she has to be smart and creative. The fridge horror, of course, is that Giles would endanger her like this in the first place, but that gets sorted out over the emotional arc of the next few episodes.
8. "I Only Have Eyes For You." S2E19
Another spooky episode, this one a classic ghost story of forbidden love ending in murder - but with the twist that the ghosts possess people's bodies to have them reenact their final moments. I love stories about breaking a doomed-to-repeat cycle. I love weird shit like the snakes manifesting in the cafeteria. And I really loved the choice to have Buffy and Angel come to understand their feelings about their own relationship by embodying these ghosts - especially how they embodied different genders than their own to better fit the "roles" of the haunting story, thus subverting the expected pattern. I found this episode clever, poignant, and effective.
7. "Who Are You?" S4E16
"Faith and Buffy switch bodies" is a wild premise, but the real joy of "Who Are You?" is watching Sarah Michelle Geller being an extremely talented actress for 45 minutes, portraying a totally different character. Watching Faith confronted by kindness and love from Buffy's mom, Riley, and her friends, then getting launched into an existential crisis over it is so great. Also, I just dig a good church fight.
6. "Hush" S4E10
As stated above, love an episode that reminds me that these people are talented actors! Featuring demons that render all of Sunnydale unable to talk, we get to watch great physical comedy right next to tense, silent fight scenes. The visual creepiness of the Gentleman and their straight-jacketed weird little helpers is hard to beat. "Hush" is such a clever episode that it ascends monster of the week status to become almost Twilight Zone-esque. Also, for the first time, Buffy sees Riley doing his Initiative thing, and Riley sees Buffy being the Slayer, but they can't talk about it?? That's good shit.
5. "The Wish" S3E9
Both "Something Blue" and "The Wish" feel like the writers decided to use fanfic premises on their own show... so obviously I like them a lot. But getting to watch a dark timeline AU with interesting world-building and attention to detail, a hilarious and horrifying Cordelia POV, AND a smirking kinky vampire Willow? Hello?? And the fact that the Wishverse comes up again in "Doppelgänger" (another truly fun episode) only improves my opinion. I imagine this is the kind of episode fans simply love coming back to.
4. "Restless" S4E22
This David Lynch-ass dream sequence was a weird choice for a season finale, but an extremely ambitious and cool episode. I should say up front that I love David Lynch-ass dream shit. There were creative and well-executed scene transitions as characters moved seamlessly from one dream room into another. Several memorably neat shots - Willow running between endless curtains as she tries to get onstage, Buffy alone in a vast desert with a weirdly high camera angle. And I got myself all excited thinking that the First Slayer would maybe become a different kind of antagonist - maybe not even fully revealed in this episode, or maybe an Id-like aspect of Buffy herself. But I forgot Whedon gonna Whedon, so the First Slayer had to be someone Buffy could punch in the end. And the First Slayer is sadly yet another primitive-themed, emotionally-stunted character of color for this show. Most of her lines in this episode are literally voiced by a white woman speaking for her, and of all the dumb quips to make, Buffy had a line about her hair being unprofessional? Also, I'm a lesbian, so the fact that the most explicit act of intimacy between Willow and Tara this show has allowed us to see occurs in Xander's horny dream sequence... it’s unforgivable, Joss. This episode was one of my favorites ever, deeply marred by some bad writing choices.
3. "Lovers Walk" S3E8
Spike, perhaps the best non-Willow character in this show, is back in Sunnydale, a hilariously heartbroken mess of a man, hell-bent on getting his former girlfriend Drusilla back. (Drusilla left him for a fungus demon.) So Spike breaks into a magic shop to get ingredients for a love spell, where he runs into Willow, who is getting ingredients for a de-lusting spell, because she is worried she and Xander will be too thirsty to behave appropriately in public with their actual partners, Oz and Cordelia. This is a hilarious moment just to exist. This is all the episode needed to do to satisfy me. But the fact that Spike then kidnaps Willow, and it ends with tragic stakes of everyone's relationships coming apart, not to mention me genuinely thinking Cordelia was dead for a minute there - wow. Chef’s kiss. The episode is balanced shockingly well between Spike being an ominous villain, and being the sort of lovable semi-evil (more gremlin-like) side character he'll become in season 4. What a wild ride.
2. "Graduation Day" S3E21-22
I'm counting this two part season finale as one because it's my list and I'll do what I want. "Graduation Day" feels like a quintessential Buffy episode executed to perfection. It has Buffy reaffirming her position as a moral heroine, sacrificing her own blood to save Angel's life even when she thought she had to kill Faith to save him. It has Buffy and Faith (or Buffy/Faith, as I prefer to think of them) getting to square off in a dramatic, tough fight. It has a lot of Mayor Wilkins, a character I truly adore for some reason. Nothing like a public administrator who plays mini golf in his office, wants you to chew with your mouth closed, and will kill a graduating class of high schoolers to gain immortality. The catharsis of the whole school getting to fight back against evil, instead of just Buffy against the world - a real joy. This episode misses the top spot for two reasons. "A special vampire poison and the only cure is the blood of a Slayer" is too contrived for me to let slide, and also I had to see Cordelia and Wesley kiss.
1. "Becoming" S2E21-22
Buffy’s season finales really do have good stories and satisfying payoff. First off, Buffy starts this episode by punching a cop and fleeing from the law. Later, Spike also punches a cop. A.k.a., Buffy said blue lives don't matter. Second - I haven't gotten a chance to comment on this yet, but all throughout season 2, evil Angel is such a joy to watch. As regular Angel, David Boreanaz makes exactly one face ("I am a kicked, angsty puppy") and bless his heart, it gets so tiresome. As evil Angel, he is so expressive, dynamic and terrifyingly creative in his badness. And I love his weird threesome energy with Spike and Drusilla. But also, it's so hard to watch Buffy suffer as she deals with her evil boyfriend doing evil things. Her ultimate choice in this episode, to kill Angel even as Willow's spell restores his soul, gave me some real big feels! Also, this episode marks the first moment of Willow doing big, plot-shifting magic on her own, solidifying her transformation from computer nerd to witch!
Also, shout-out to the many good smaller moments in this episode: Spike making awkward small talk with Buffy's mom, Buffy constantly dunking on Principle Snyder, and Giles being tortured by visions of Miss Calendar (RIP Miss Calendar, I was your biggest fan.)
"Becoming" is an excellent season finale and the kind of Buffy episode I imagine I will want to re-watch in the future just for nostalgia's sake.

It’s Arrested Development: How ‘High Fidelity’ Has Endured Beyond Its Cultural Sell-By Date by Vikram Murthi
Tumblr media
It’s easy to forget now that at the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic had taken hold of our consciousness, for a brief moment, High Fidelity was back. Not only did Nick Hornby’s debut novel and Stephen Frears’ film adaptation celebrate major milestones this year — 25th and 20th anniversaries, respectively — but a TV adaptation premiered on Hulu in February. In light of all of these arbitrary signposts, multiple thinkpieces and remembrances litigated Hornby’s original text on familiar, predictable grounds. Is the novel/film’s protagonist Rob actually an asshole? (Sure.) Does Hornby uphold his character’s callous attitudes towards women? (Not really.) Hasn’t the story’s gatekeeping, anti-poptimist approach to artistic taste culturally run its course? (Probably.) Why do we need to revisit this story about this person right now? (Fair question!)
Despite reasonable objections on grounds of relevancy, enough good will for the core narrative—record store owner seeks out a series of exes to determine a pattern of behavior following a devastating breakup—apparently exists to help produce a gender-flipped streaming show featuring updated musical references and starring a decidedly not-middle-aged Zoë Kravitz. I only made it through six of ten episodes in its first (and only) season, but I was surprised by how closely the show hewed to High Fidelity’s film adaptation, to the point of re-staging numerous scenes down to character blocking and swiping large swaths of dialogue wholesale. (Similarly, the film adaptation hewed quite close to the novel, with most of the dialogue ripped straight from Hornby.) Admittedly, the series features a more diverse cast than the film, centering different experiences and broadly acknowledging some criticisms of the source material regarding its ostensibly exclusionary worldview. Nevertheless, it seemed like a self-defeating move for the show to line itself so definitively with a text that many consider hopelessly problematic, especially considering the potential to repurpose its premise as a springboard for more contemporary ideas.
Tumblr media
High Fidelity’s endurance as both a piece of IP and a flashpoint for media discourse is mildly baffling for obvious reasons. For one thing, its cultural milieu is actually dated. Even correcting for vinyl’s recent financial resurgence, the idea of snooty record store clerks passing judgment on customer preferences has more or less gone the way of the dodo. With the Internet came the democratization of access, ensuring that the cultivation of personal taste is no longer laborious or expensive, or could even be considered particularly impressive (if it ever could have been). Secondly, as one might imagine, some of Hornby’s insights into heterosexual relationships and the differences between men and women, even presented through the flawed, self-deprecating interiority of High Fidelity’s main character, are indeed reductive. Frears’ film actually strips away the vast majority of Hornby’s weaker commentary, but the novel does include such cringeworthy bits like, “What’s the deal with foreplay?” that are best left alone.
Accounting for all of that, though, it’s remarkable how many misreadings of Hornby’s text have been accepted as conventional wisdom. It’s taken as a given by many that the novel and film earnestly preach the notion that what you like is more important than what you are like when, in fact, the narrative arc is constructed around reaching the opposite conclusion. (The last lines of the novel and film are, literally, “…I start to compile in my head a compilation tape for her, something that's full of stuff she's heard of, and full of stuff she'd play. Tonight, for the first time ever, I can sort of see how it's done.”) That’s relatively minor compared to the constant refrain that Rob’s narcissism goes uncriticized, even though the story’s thematic and emotional potency derives from what the audience perceives that Rob cannot. To put it bluntly, High Fidelity’s central irony revolves around a man who listens to music for a living being unable to hear the women in his life.
Tumblr media
While Hornby’s prose immerses the reader in Rob’s interior monologue, providing ample room for the character to spout internal justifications of his behavior, the novel hardly obscures or conceals this conclusion. Moreover, the film makes it unavoidably explicit in numerous scenes. Rob (John Cusack) triumphantly pantomimes Rocky Balboa’s boxing routine soundtracked to Queen’s “We Are The Champions” after his ex-girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle) confirms she hasn’t yet slept with her new boyfriend Ray (Tim Robbins), but doesn’t hear the part where she says she prefers to sleep next to him. When Laura informs Rob that she did eventually sleep with Ray, Rob completely falls apart. In an earlier, more pointed scene, Rob goes out with his ex-girlfriend from high school (Joelle Carter) to ask why she chose to have sex with an obnoxious classmate instead of him. She venomously informs him that he actually broke up with her because she was too prudish, an abrupt, cruel bit of business we actually witness at the film’s beginning. It was in her moment of heartbroken vulnerability that she agreed to quickly sleep with someone else (“It wasn’t rape because I technically said, ‘Okay,’ but it wasn’t far off,” she sneers), which ultimately put her off sex until after college. Rob doesn’t hear this explanation or the damning portrait of his teenaged self. Instead, he’s delighted to learn that he wasn’t actually dumped.
These are evidently low character moments, one’s that are comedic in their depiction of blinkeredness but whose emotional takeaways are crystal clear, and one’s that have been written about before. My personal pick from the film, though, comes late when Rob attends Laura’s father’s funeral. He sits in the back and, in typical fashion, turns to the camera to deliver a list of songs to play at his funeral, concluding with his professed wish that “some beautiful, tearful woman would insist on ‘You’re The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me’ by Gladys Knight.” It’s a really galling, egotistical moment that still makes me wince despite having seen the movie umpteen times. Yet, it’s immediately followed by the casket being lowered to the ground as Laura’s sobs ring out in the church. In a movie defined by John Cusack’s vocal timbre, it’s one of the few times when he completely shuts up. From two-thirds down the center aisle, Frears’ camera pushes into Cusack’s face until tears in his eyes are visible, but what you really see is an appropriately guilt-ridden, ashamed expression.
Tumblr media
However, none of this evidence carries any weight if your objection to High Fidelity is that Rob suffers no material consequences for his behavior. While Rob is frequently called out for his actions, he is never actively punished. He doesn’t, say, receive a restraining order for continually calling Laura after they’ve broken up or end up alone mending a permanent broken heart because of his past relationships. By the end, Rob and Laura get back together and Rob even starts an independent record label on the side. It’s a stretch to characterize Hornby’s High Fidelity as a redemption tale, but it is a sideways rehabilitation narrative with a happy ending that arises at least partly out of mutual exhaustion.
Those two elements—Rob’s asshole recovery and the exhausted happy ending—rarely seem to factor into High Fidelity discourse. Granted, there’s credence to the idea that, socially and culturally, people have less patience for the personality types depicted in High Fidelity, and thus are less inclined to extend them forgiveness, let alone anything resembling retribution. I suppose that’s a valid reaction, one against which I have no interest in arguing, but it’s somewhat ironic that High Fidelity has endured for reasons that have nothing to do with its conclusions regarding inflexible personal principles and the folly of escapism. Both the book and film are specifically about someone who slowly comes to terms with accepting reality rather than live in a world mediated by pop cultural fantasies whose unrealistic expectations have only caused personal suffering. It’s not unfair to characterize this as a fairly obvious epiphany, but considering we currently live in a world dominated by virtual echo chambers with an entertainment culture committed to validating arrested adolescence, it retroactively counts as “mature” and holds more weight than it otherwise should.
Tumblr media
Near the end of High Fidelity, the book, after Rob and Laura have gotten back together in the aftermath of Laura’s father’s death, Hornby includes a chapter featuring five conversations between the couple unpacking the state of their relationship. During the third conversation, Rob and Laura fight about how she doesn’t care about music as strongly as he does, catalyzed by Rob’s objection to Laura liking both Solomon Burke and Art Garfunkel, which, in his mind, is a contradiction in terms. Laura finally admits that not only does she not really care about the difference between them, but that most people outside of his immediate circle of two don’t care about the difference, and that this mentality is indicative of a larger problem. It’s part of what keeps him stuck in his head and reluctant to commit to anything. “I’m just trying to wake you up,” she says. “I'm just trying to show you that you've lived half your life, but for all you've got to show for it you might as well be nineteen, and I'm not talking about money or property or furniture.”
I fell for High Fidelity (first the movie, then the book) as a younger man for the reasons I assume most sensitive-cum-oblivious, culturally preoccupied straight guys do: it accurately pinpoints a pattern of music consumption and organizationally anal-retentive behavior with which I’m intimately familiar. I spent the vast majority of my early years listening to and cataloguing albums, and when I arrived at college, I quickly fell in with a small group of like-minded music obsessives. We had very serious, very prolonged discussions filled with impossibly strong opinions about our favorite artists and records. Few new releases came and went without them being scrutinized by us, the unappreciated scholars of all that is righteous. List-making wasn’t in vogue, but there wasn’t a song that passed us by that we didn’t judge or size up. I was exposed to more music during this relatively short period of time than I likely will ever absorb again. Some of these times were the most engaging and fun of my life, and I still enjoy discussing and sharing music with close friends, but I’m not such a true believer to fully feel comfortable with this behavior. It’s not entirely healthy on its own and definitely alienating to others, and there comes a point when you hear yourself the way a stranger might, or maybe even catch a glimpse of someone’s eyes when you’re midst rant about some stupid album, and realize, “That’s all there is of me. There isn’t anything else.”
Tumblr media
This is what Rob proclaims to Laura in the conversation when she tells him she was more interested in music during their courtship than she is now. It’s a patently self-pitying statement on his part that doesn’t go unchallenged by her in the moment or bear fruit in the rest of the novel. Yet, it’s this type of uncomfortably relatable sentiment that goes under-discussed. If High Fidelity will continue to have a life well after its cultural moment has passed, then it’s worth addressing what it offers on its own terms. Near the end of the book, Laura introduces Rob to another couple with whom he gets along quite well. When the evening comes to an end, she tells him to take a look at their record collection, and it’s predictably filled with artists he doesn’t care for, e.g. Billy Joel, Simply Red, Meat Loaf. “'Everybody's faith needs testing from time to time,” Laura tells him later when they’re alone. Amidst Rob’s self-loathing and sullen pettiness, Hornby argues that one should contribute in some way rather than only consume and that, at some point, it’s time to put away childish ideas in order to get the most out of life. It’s an entirely untrendy argument, one that goes against the nostalgic spirit of superhero films and reboot culture, but it doesn’t lack merit. Accepting that some values aren’t conducive to a full life, especially when it’s shared with someone else, doesn’t have to mean abandoning interests or becoming an entirely different person. It just means that letting go isn’t an admission of defeat.
It’s why I’ve always found the proposal scene in the film to be quite moving, albeit maybe not specifically romantic. It plays out similarly in both the book and the film, but the film has the added benefit of Cusack and Hjejle’s performances to amplify the vulnerability and shared understanding. Laura meets Rob for a drink in the afternoon where he sheepishly asks if she would like to get married. Laura bursts out laughing and says that he isn’t the safest bet considering he was making mixtapes for some reporter a few days prior. When asked what brought this on, Rob notes that he’s sick of thinking about love and settling down and marriage and wants to think about something else. (“I changed my mind. That’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard. I do. I will,” she sarcastically replies.) He goes on to say that he’s tired of fantasizing about other women because the fantasies have nothing to do with them and everything to do with himself and that it doesn’t exist never mind delivering on its promise. “I’m tired of it,” he says, “and I’m tired of everything else for that matter, but I don’t ever seem to get tired of you.”
Tumblr media
This sort of anti-Jerry Maguire line would be callous if Laura didn’t basically say the same thing to him when they got back together. (“I’m too tired not to be with you.”) It’s possible to read this as an act of mutual settling, but I always thought Hornby’s point was personal growth and accepting one’s situation were intertwined. The key moment in High Fidelity, the film, comes when Laura finds Rob’s list of top five dream jobs. (In the book, Laura makes Rob compile the list.) At the bottom of the list, after such standard choices like music journalist and record producer, lies architect, a job that Rob isn’t entirely sure about anyway. (“I did put it at number five!” he insists.) Laura asks Rob the obvious question: wouldn’t you rather own your own record store than hypothetically be an architect, a job you’re not particularly enthused with anyway?
It’s Laura who convinces Rob that living the fifth-best version of your life can actually be pretty satisfying and doesn’t have to be treated like a cruel fate worse than death. Similarly, Rob and Laura both make the active decision to try to work things out instead of starting over with someone else. Laura’s apathy may have reunited them, and Rob’s apathy might have kept him from running, but it’s their shared history that keeps them together. More than the music and the romance, High Fidelity follows the necessary decisions and compromises one has to maneuver in order to grow instead of regress. “I've been letting the weather and my stomach muscles and a great chord change in a Pretenders single make up my mind for me, and I want to do it for myself,” Rob says near the end of Hornby’s novel. High Fidelity’s emotional potency lies in taking that sentiment seriously.

um its my birthday so wait until 12:01am pst to block me if u hate this post 🥰🥰
long story short the pansexual label is redudant and actively harmful (its far from the worst problem bisexuals face but it is one issue) and i dont hate anyone who identifies as pan because A) those ppl are bi like me and B) i used to identify as pan myself.
if thats enough for you to block me and make a callout post for me then i cant stop you but pretty please either read this whole thing or just wait a few minutes for my bday to end 🥰🥰
anyways im kicking off this point with some personal experiences bc i love to talk to myself. i got introduced to the pan label at maybe 10ish years old, and started identifying with it pretty much right away. i heard about it before bisexual and it was pitched as attraction to all genders and of course trans people. i was of course a trans ally! i had trans friends! i was trans also but hadnt figured it out yet! the way i had heard of it, there was no bisexual, there was no need for bisexual, and identifying differently was excluding trans people, which I was certainly against. being bisexual was trans exclusionary and why would i exclude trans people? the 'hearts not parts' slogan was thriving around this time and i genuinely said it and meant it.
as i started to become more online, mostly through roleplaying websites and tumblr here, i started hearing of bisexuality. it was supposedly an older term, so older people still used it, but it was common knowledge that pansexual was the better, inclusive label and younger people should adopt the new inclusive language instead of the old and transphobic words like bisexual. /s
and then bi and pan solidarity was all the rage! pansexual wasnt erasing bisexuality, why did anyone ever think that? bi and pan were two separate and complete identities that were valid and had to be respected or youre a mean exclusionist. and an asexual person, hearing people labelled exclusionist always meant they were excluding people from the lgbta community who rightfully belonged, denying peoples lived experiences, and generally telling people theyre wrong about their sexuality because theyre too young. and all of those things were bad and had hurt me, so it would be ridiculous to change labels and support "pan exclusionists" because they were just as bad as ace and aro exclusionists, and they were all the same people. or so it seemed to me at that time.
then, 'hearts not parts' began getting called out for blatant transphobic by insinuating that pansexual was the only identity that loved people for their "hearts" and personalities instead of those gross gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and even straights who only saw people for their "parts". (STRAIGHT PEOPLE ARE NOT OPPRESSED. I AM MERELY POINTING OUT THAT PANSEXUALITY WAS SHOWN AS ABOVE ALL OTHERS.) many pan people, including myself, began to denounce the slogan and insist pansexuality wasnt transphobic, there had just been a coincidence that a transphobic slogan was everywhere and a huge part of people's explantions of and associations with pansexuality. hint: it wasnt a coincidence.
from my perspective, this is when i began to see people discussing dropping the word pansexual. that seemed to be a huge step from getting rid off a transphobic slogan, and these people were just meanies who hated microlabels. and i like microlabels! as a genderfluid person, and someone who has friends who use specific aro and acespec labels, ive seen how people can use them to name specific experiences while still acknowleging their presence underneath umbrella terms like aromantic, asexual, nonbinary, lgbta, and for some people, queer.
pansexuals dont do that. they dont label pansexuality as a specific set of experiences under the bisexual umbrella, they see themselves as a separate identity, and even if they started to, the history of biphobia and transphobic undeniably linked to the existence of pansexuality in enough to stop being worth using. but i digress. pansexualitys shiny new definition that many people cling to is that pansexual is attraction to all genders. bisexual is two or more genders.
which. frankly? doesnt make any sense. my guess is that its supposed to be inclusive of nonbinary genders and those a part of cultures who historically have not had a binary gender system in the first place. i cannot speak for the latter group, but as a nonbinary person, its not inclusive. anyone can be attracted to nonbinary people. literally anyone. theres no way to know if everyone you meet is nonbinary or not. whether or not a nonbinary person reciprocates those feelings and is interested in pursuing a relationship is completely up to the individual, regardless of the sexualities of the people involved.
bottom line is that you cant number the amounts of genders someone can be attracted to, thus rendering those definitions pointless. people can be attracted to all kinds of people regardless of gender, even if they are gay, a lesbian, or straight. all people can date thousands of nonbinary genders if all people involved are interested and comfortable with it. numbering the genders you can be attracted to diminishes the post of nonbinary, as it is not a third gender, it simply any experience not fitting within the western concept of the gender binary (if the person so chooses to identify as such. if you cant tell already, the nonbinary experience is varied between every single nonbinary person.) important to note also that no widely accepted bisexual text defines bisexual as attracted to exclusively two genders or even the "two or more genders". i know this is used a lot but please read the bisexual manifesto. its free online i promise.
some people also claim pansexuals experience "genderblind" attraction while bisexuals feel differently attracted to different genders. this is very nitpicky for whats supposed to be two unconnected idenities, but thats only part of the problem. this definition is also not in any widely accepted bisexual texts, and bisexuality has never excluded those who experience genderblind attraction. i am in fact a bi person who experiences genderblind attraction. this does not mean i am not bisexual. it simply means i experience bisexuality differently than other bisexuals, and thats wonderful! no broad communities like bisexuality are expected to all share the same experience. we are all so different and its amazing were able to come together under the bisexual flag.
last definition, or justification i should say, is that yes these definitions are redundant and theyre the same sexuality, but people prefer different labels and thats okay. i agree in principle. people can define themselves as many things like homosexuals or gays or lesbians or queers or even other reclaimed slurs, while still not labelling themselves under the most "common" or "accurate" labels.
but pansexuality isnt the same as bisexuality, which may sound silly but hear me out. it has been continually used as a way to further divide bisexuals, who are already subject to large amounts of lgbta discrimination. "pansexuality was started by trans people who were upset with transphobia within the bisexual community! it cant be transphobic OR biphobic!" except of course that it can and it is. to say that trans people cant be transphobic is absurd. transmedicalism is right there, but thats not what im getting at. all minorities can have internal and sometimes external biases against people who are the same minority as them.
pansexuality was started as a way to be trans inclusive at the expense of labelling bisexuality as transphobic when its not. transphobia is everywhere, and bisexuals are not exempt. instead of working on the transphobia within the community, the creators of pansexuality decided to remove themselves from it to create a better and less tainted word and community, and the fact that pansexuality is intended to replace bisexuality or leave it for the transphobes goes to show a few things. pansexuality and bisexuality are inherently linked because the pan label is in response to the bi label. due to its origins, it is inherently competing with bisexuality and it cant be "reclaimed" from its biphobic roots. pansexuality is not a whole, separate, and valid label. its a biphobic response to issues within the bisexual community.
to top off this post, heres something a full grown adult once said to me. in person. she was my roommate. "i feel like im pan because im attracted to trans people. trans women, trans men, i could definitely date them. but not nonbinary people because thats gross and weird." she saw pan as trans inclusive and defined herself that way as opposed to bi which is shitty!
also a little extra tidbit about my experiences identifying as pan. i saw myself as better than every bi person. all of them. even my trans and bi friends. whenever they brought up being bisexual i would think to myself "why dont you identify as pansexual? its better and shows people you support trans people." because i was made to believe bisexuality didnt and was therefore inferior. thats the mindset that emerged from my time in the pansexual community. i am so sorry to all of my bisexual friends even if they never noticed. i love you all and hope you have a great day. this also goes to any bisexuals or people who identify as bi in anyway, such as biromantic or simply bi. love you all.
ummm yeah heres some extra reading i found helpful and relevant. here and here. also noooo dont disagree with me and unfollow me im so sexy 🥴🥴🥴

this is baby's first request but i really love your writing and hc's ;___; could you do dwight, david, jeff and evan with an s/o who is transgender and has bad bouts of body dysphoria sometimes? i understand if thats hard to write for tho hajgkgj take care and ily
congrats on ur first request i love you!!!! you’re doing great sweetie!!!! Sorry this took so long, it got lost in my drafts and then I fell of the map for a while ahhahaha
HCS With a Transgender S/O
David King
David is a man who was raised with toxic masculinity and 'stereotypical gender norms'. He was always told that girls should be girls and boys should be boys. But that doesn't mean he follows what he was taught. He doesn't fully understand how it feels to be trans as he's never experienced the thoughts himself but he supports you.
You can really tell he supports you. Like. REALLY. No matter what you identify as. Are you a boy? Great! He'll call you his best boy!! A dashing gentleman! Are you a girl? A darling lady! Are you neither, or something else? Well, then you're sweetheart, baby or whatever you want to be! He might accidently use the wrongs names of phrases to begin with, but he realises QUICK and he's like "oh shIT SORRY MY BAD"
Any time you experience your dysphoria, he's on hand to help with encouraging words. He's the king of pop talks. He will tell you exactly how beautiful, handsome and/or perfect you are!
David is embarrassed by nothing. He will stand with you. If you want to wear dresses, he'll wear em too! If you're struggling to put on a binder, he'll help! And then be like "woW CANT EVEN SEE EM, WHOS MY HANDSOME LAD"
If anyone misgenders you, he'll throw down. Well. He'll give them a LOOK first and then 'Oi' but if it keeps happening, he WILL throw down.
Dwight Fairfield
Very understanding, very supportive.
He asks you to list everything you feel, one by one, and he'll answer them all. One by one.
Expect plenty of kisses on your face as he breathlessly tells you how much you mean to him. He'll have to keep stopping to catch his breath because he is ATTACKING you with positivity right now.
Some people headcannon Dwight as trans himself, and I really like that! So if, theoretically, he was trans, he'd understand exactly what you're going through! But again, this won't apply to everyone's version of him.
Will never ever misgender you because the moment you tell him what your pronouns are and what you're comfortable with, he spends SO LONG just saying it in his head to make sure he gets it right. He's so anxious and the last thing he wants to do is make you feel uncomfortable or ignored. And although he's nervous, he's a man that sticks by his principles, and if someone ELSE misgenders you, Dwight will kindly remind them to use your preferred labels and pronouns.
Evan Macmillan / The Trapper
Evan was, like David, raised to think that boys were boys and girls were girls and so forth. His father was very opinionated, and Evan grew up hearing that every day of his life. So when you told him that you were trans, he didn't... Get it? He may have came off as dismissive or harsh, but that's only because that's what was drilled into him.
If you sit him down and explain, tell him how you feel and what it means to be trans, he'll listen. Because his father, while being opinionated, could never explain WHY he had thought these things were wrong. So explain. Talk to him. Remove the stigma. Tell him it's fine. And normal. It's just something that people do. And that it's okay. And honestly? You'll find that he understands quicker than you think. He accepts uou much quicker than you think.
So when you experience your bouts of body dysphoria, he may not fully understand, but he tries his best. He realises he doesn't have to understand all the ins-and-outs. He understands that you're not feeling okay, and that's all he needs to know. Expect to be pulled into his arms. Expect to be coddled.
He's kinda curt and not very gentle. So if you tell him that you don't feel right because of something like this --- such as feeling like you're not feminine or masculine enough and etc, then he'll literally just say "don't be an idiot". You can tell him all of your concerns and he'll be like, "doesn't matter, you're still mine."
Jeff Johansen
Jeff is the coolest guy you could ever date for things like this. He's so laidback and thoughtful and considerate of others. He has no issue calling you by your preferred names and pronouns, and he usually just calls you sweetheart anyway, so. Genderneutral.
When you're going through bouts of dysphoria, he likes to hold you close to his chest and kiss at your temple.
He'll calmly ask you to tell him your concerns, letting you ramble without interruption and say everything you are feeling. And he'll hold you and him in acknowledgement every now and then and when you're finally done, he'll pull you over so you can face him, still sat on his lap, and he'll softly answer everything you've started with what HE thinks. If you think you don't 'pass' as the identity you are, he's gonna tell you that he doesn't believe that passing is a thing because everyone is unique and different. How others perceive you has no bearing, because you ARE what you say and think you are. Anything negative you tell him about yourself, he'll calmly tell you his own opinions. He'll never outright say you're wrong, because he wants you to be able to change your views without being flat-out reprimanded for thinking what you think.
Expect lots of hugs and kisses.

hiii omg do you ever think about fem!wincest but like, both girls, lesbian version?? it's the only thing occupying my mind lately and i would LOVE to hear what you have to say on the topic<3 have a great day!!
I love getting asks like this, please always send me stuff.
Ahhh the sisters Winchester. Here’s the thing - it’s fun and easy to transpose always-a-girl Deanna and Samantha into the canon, but I think if John Winchester had been left kneeling on the grass in front of a burning house with two little girls in his arms, canon would actually have been somewhat different.
There’s a certain kind of toxicly masculine but trying his best dude who is a very different father to a daughter than a son. Picture John with 3 year old Deanna before Sam is born and before the demon comes. She’s his little princess, his treasure, his most precious possession. He’s the kind of dad who jokes about killing her boyfriends someday before she can write her name. He wants to protect her from everything in the world, with none of the “buck up, be a man” and “stiff upper lip” stuff we get from John to Dean WAY too young as a boy.
So when Mary dies his first priority is getting his two remaining girls somewhere safe. He tries to convince Ellen, who just found out she’s pregnant with Jo, to look after the kids, and Ellen rips him a new one about how just because she’s the only woman he knows in The Life doesn’t mean she’s his personal nanny service. He ends up at Bobby’s instead, and the girls grow up there, mostly. John still travels over hell’s half acre hunting, but instead of dragging the kids through shitty motel rooms, they stay with Bobby. He can’t leave his girls with no one to look after them, can he?
He can barely look at Deanna without seeing Mary, it’s so much worse as a girl than it was as a boy, and it gets increasingly painful as she gets older. But he still loves her unreasonably, unconditionally, obsessively, like he did when she was a tiny toddler on his knees in the nursery. He’s already lost his wife, the last thing he’s willing to do is endanger his perfect daughters.
Unfortunately, gender being what it is, Deanna still gets parentified almost as badly as Dean in canon, despite not being left alone to raise a younger sibling on canned pasta and a prayer. Although Bobby does the laundry and the cooking (he’s bad at it) until Deanna is old enough to reasonably take over, Deanna does all the comforting and the emotional parenting of Sammy, because that’s what’s expected of girls.
The sisters are still unreasonably close but growing up in one place means they have other friends and other interests. By the time she’s 16, Deanna has dated all the dateable guys at their high school (Sammy: “That didn’t take long”) and moved on to the other schools in the district. She’s popular and athletic enough to be a cheerleader but that would mean missing Sammy’s soccer games, so it’s out. She’s happiest when she’s under the hood of an old car, with Sam nearby reading Dickens or Austen or Asimov, or lore books in the shade. Sam of course does chess club and mathletes and later drama club, and Deanna and Bobby go to all her matches and shows. Not having grown up marinating in John’s musical tastes in the car, Deanna is into PJ Harvey and Bikini Kill, and Bobby is always telling her to “turn that caterwauling down!” Sam complains about the music too but she has an enormous crush on Kathleen Hanna.
Sam is the one who wants to be a hunter. When John rolls through she gets in screaming fights with him about how “girls can do anything guys can! It’s sexist you trying to coddle us like this!” She and Deanna argue about it too - “Sammy it’s too dangerous.” / “You sound like Dad.” / “Dad knows what he’s talking about!” By the time she’s in high school, Sam speaks 4 dead languages and knows almost as much about the lore as Bobby.
Deanna goes to community college in Sioux Falls for automotive, gives a guy in her class a split lip for saying something about girls and cars, and ends up dating him for two years. He’s fine, but Sam hates him on principle and Deanna breaks up with him to follow Sam when Sam gets into U Chicago on a full ride. She wanted to stay close enough to help Bobby with research on long weekends.
When Sam starts having dreams about Deanna burning up on the ceiling, they both know enough not to ignore it. When the yellow eyed demon comes for her, Sam’s ready, and she’s got her sister at her side.

Match up (◕‿◕✿)
nAdDy sEnpAi if you’re still doing ikevamp matchups, could you do mine pleaseee 👉🏼👈🏼, school’s been really hectic and i need a pick me up 😔😔 here’s my updated info hehe 😚
I’m a female on the libra-scorpio cusp and a Slytherin, I used to be an ENFP but now I’m an INFP. Appearance-wise, I’m 5'2, i’ve brown eyes and caramel brown hair. I also wear glasses and I’m also quite tanned from being out in the sun all the time.
Personality-wise:
- I can be really enthusiastic about stuff I’m really interested in, such as history (especially world war history), sciences (but physics is trash to me) and anime (I’m a closet nerd hehe) .
- I can be really ambitious and competitive, and I would sometimes place unrealistic expectations on myself, leaving me mentally exhausted and stressed, but like i place these unrealistic measures on myself to strive to be the best
- I do try to chill and take it slow, but you know, sometimes i just can’t 😅
- I’m quite an open book to all my close friends
- I also tend to be really possessive, like I dont like people purposely trying to steal my friends (it happened a lot of times before) and i hate it when someone randomly butts into a conversation i’m having with anyone, especially if it’s a deep conversation
- I can be really awkward around people i don’t click with, but around people i click with, i can be pretty wild and will be able to hold conversations with.
- I tend to procrastinate a lot, and people say i look intimidating but i don’t feel like I’m intimidating.
- I can be really sensitive to other’s emotions and i tend to put others before me, so like my close friend always told me that i’m too much of a giver, like I try to please everyone else and ignore myself
- My love languages are physical touch and quality time
- I can’t stand people who are attention seekers or just aim to be public nuisances as i feel that they’re just really irritating and it gets on my nerves, especially those people who are just doing stupid things to be popular (which is lowkey why i think tiktoks dances are dumb, like seriously i dont get the hype, but i do like tiktok meme videos tho)
- I listen to a lot of different genres of music, but i especially love classics (mozart and chopin are my favourites) and pop.
- I can really insecure at times, because i always feel that every other girl out there is better than me and i’m just a plain and ugly, and partially because i got bullied when i was younger about my appearance
- I like dressing up and putting on makeup occassionally, but i do act like a tomboy most of the time (ie. I hate skirts, like i really dont like them and i have no idea why, but jeans are supreme).
- I also love playing the piano and singing as well, even though i’m not that good at it :D
- People tell me that I’m very curious and persistent, constantly pushing until i get answers, but i do know my limits.
- I’m also very passionate about things I love, and i would do anything to protect people that i care and love.
- I’m also very affectionate and supportive towards my close friends and people i love. - I do have trust issues and I often feel like i do not deserve love and that I hate people who betray my trust.
- I’m ok with pda, but not anything overly affectionate, like hand-holding and kissing is ok, but not making out 😳😖
- I also tend to be pretty forgettful, and i’ll not eat for hours to get my work on hand done (whoop pretty unhealthy but :0)
- I’m also really sarcastic when i want to be, and i can’t hold a poker face to save my life (i swear i always start laughing like 2 seconds in) and I tend to sass people a lot, especially if I’ve had a bad day
- I’m also pretty fiesty and I hate people stereotyping me for my gender (i.e like when someone says that “oh you’re pretty good for a girl”) like what does my gender have to do with my ability? Like there is zero correlation
- My sense of humour is kind of twisted at times but i really love memes and i tend to crack inappropriate jokes sometimes
- I’ve been told that i come across as really flirty to some guys but it’s because i can be really touchy feely to my friends
- I’m also quick to anger, especially if i have a bad day, i hate people who nag and i hate people who put down others
- I’m kind of touch-starved, so i really like hugs and cuddles, but I’m also ticklish so my friends tend to tickle me when hugging me
- I can be a daydreamer at times, like I would get stuck in my own fantasy world when i shouldn’t 😂😂
- I’m also a drama queen around my friends, I dont have a lot of them in real life because of some rumours that others spread, so i only have a close circle of friends i really treasure and would do anything for them
- I also tend to bottle up all my anger and negative thoughts, and would sometimes like explode on others even though I don’t mean to
- Sometimes I don’t really think before I say or act, which is why sometimes I can come off as a bit rude or unfeeling but it’s just me and my impulsiveness
Fun Facts:
- i really love food, especially sweets (dark chocolate and dango is my life)
- i really hate horror movies (I’m usually pretty brave, but horror movies just get to me so much ergh) but i love chick flicks and adventure flims
- I’m also a hopeless romantic, which is why even little romantic gestures can make my heart flutter
- My hobbies are reading, writing and shooting (only air-rifle though)
- I used to be pretty athletic, I still am, but to a lesser extend now, because i injured my left knee playing volleyball in the past. It’s on it’s road to recovery, but it still hurts quite badly when i overexert myself.
- I love artic foxes and cats, dogs are too energetic for me 😅
- I’m also a sneaker hoarder and I love collecting and wearing sneakers hehe, heels are like torture devices for the feet i dont care even if they make me taller
- Coffee over tea anyday, no offense to peoples who like tea, but a fresh cup of brewed coffee is one of the best things in the world 😚
- I’m really terrible at drawing, I’m not gonna kid you. When i was younger, my art teacher threatened to fail me because im really terrible at drawing. 😂
- I’m also very injury-prone and a bit clumsy, which caused me to have bruises occasionally
- I’m kinda bad and math and physics, but like if you take your time to explain to me then I’ll understand a bit more lol, my best subject is like chemistry
- my ideal date would just be cuddling with my boyfriend, and either watching a movie together or bookshop date hehe
uwu i would be super grateful and happy if you did my matchup uwu thank you sm sending you all my love and hugs and cuddles 🥰💖💕
Hi hi, lia! ❤I’m so happy ya requested! 😆Hehe, I hope you enjoy it love, and I hope this cheers ya up! Love ya lots, and I hope you enjoy it! ❤😊
So I match you with……………. Isaac
Tumblr media
Oh, the first time Isaac spotted you in the dining room, introducing yourself to everyone, he was paralyzed with fear. You quite possibly looked more intimidating than anyone he has ever met in his whole entire life, and that’s saying a lot considering you were standing right next to his pure blooded vampire, sire. Comte spotted Isaac hiding behind the doorway of the dining room, peaking in to catch a glimpse of their new guest. You instantly turned around when you heard the blond vampire beckon, someone closer, whose name you know all too well. He had been the cause of endless amounts of math and science homework over the years.
Your eyes locked with his for a split second, but moments after you met his rosy eyes he darted them to the ground. “I-s-saac Newton, n-nice to meet you.” You gave him a shy smile and took his outstretched hand and shook it, before you could even say a word, Arthur budded in and interrupted. An action which caused you to feel slightly irritated, Isaac looked up at your face and saw that you were starting to become awkward with being the centre of attention. The two of you still held hands when the physicist decided to pull you into the kitchen with him to give you a moment of peace. You smiled when he is a very soft meek voice confessed that he didn’t really like crowds or loud people, a little fact that the two of you bonded over. And before you knew it, you and Isaac were now sitting in the kitchen chatting away in a deep conversation about your mutual dislike of overcrowded places, bullies and plain old public nuisances.
The next day you decided to curiously explore the mansion. You came across a great big library, and you felt as excited as a kid on Christmas day. They had every and any book you could possibly wish for. You decided to spend the day doing something you absolutely loved, and that would be... reading. You had found yourself an old outdated science book, and you were honestly so fascinated at how little had changed in terms of scientific principles over the years. You were so invested in the book you were reading you didn’t even hear Issac walking in. He was on the hunt for his little hedgehog.
You were awoken from your book reading trance when you heard the sound of a vase smash against the floor. Startled you turned your head towards the loud crash only to see a very distressed looking Isaac. You are naturally sensitive to other emotion, and very much a giver, so it only took one glance at Isaac’s troubled face to prompt you into action. You noticed that he had cut himself on the fallen vase and he was now down crouched on the floor trying to retrieve his terrified hedgehog, who had gotten himself caught at the bottom of one of the large bookcases.
Wordlessly you laid on the floor beside Isaac and peered under the bookcase, when you spotted little Harry cowering in the dark corner tangled in a ball of wool. Your hands and arms were much smaller than Issac’s, so you were easily able to reach under the bookcase and secure the little hedgehog. Both of you sat up as you cradle the scared little animal in your hands, trying to untangle the wool that was wrapped around his body. “My God, Harry, I was worried sick about you, please never disappear like that again.” both you and Isaac breathed a sigh of relief at the now rescued critter.
That is when you looked up and noticed that Harry wasn’t the only hedgehog who had been injured, “Isaac, your hand!” You stood up and offered Isaac a hand up, you then gently took his hand in yours and led him to your room. You sat him down on your bed and gently started treating the injury as Harry had made himself comfortable, now sleeping on your pillow. While treating Isaac’s injury, you started chatting away with him. You could see him blushing profusely from embarrassment so you decided to tell him about the book you were reading before the whole fiasco. At the mention of the science book, Isaac instantly perked up and met your enthusiasm ten fold. After his wound was wrapped and treated, the two of you sat in deep conversation for the second time that week, chatting all about science and your mutual love for the subject. And that my dear friend is how you and Isaac had become good friends
Since that day, it wasn’t uncommon for the two of you to be sitting across from each other in the library, reading away. Usually, Harry would be nestled in your lap as you and Isaac enjoy a quiet afternoon together. Some afternoon the two of you would just simply sit in silence and read while other afternoons were filled with laughter and conversation between the two of you cuties.
As the days went on Isaac had noticed a very curious fact about you, and that was how forgetful you were. He had noticed that you would go hours and hours without eating or drinking something which strangely enough, was the exact opposite of him, who required minimum routine of five meals a day. It was this curious observation that had started the habit of the two of you dining together every day. Something which both of you really enjoyed, especially now that the two of you were determined to find the best sweets in all of Paris. Every day without fail, at lunchtime you and Isaac would go out to town to try a new cafés for lunch and sweet. These café crawls usually involved Isaac showing you around Paris, visiting book stores together and leisurely walking beside the Seine. You honestly loved spending time with this hedgehog, who had seemed to have completely opened up to you.
Isaac loved your inappropriate jokes and twisted humour and would bust out into uncontrollable laughter whenever you would crack a joke. One time as the two of you were sitting on the fountain’s edge eating some ice cream, you saw a man falling up stairs. As hard as you tried, you couldn’t keep a poker face, it just wasn't in you, especially when Isaac had just witnessed the exact same scene and was now looking at you and snickering. Of course, being the sweet angels you were, you rushed to see if the man was alright, however, your walk home with Isaac was filled with jokes and endless laughter of the days events.
Ooh how Isaac had fallen head over heels for you, his favourite thing in the world was to hear you sing and play the piano. He would silently walk into the piano room whenever you played, and just let the beautiful sounds wash away his weariness of the day. He would shower you with endless compliments, even more so, when you would deny them, saying that you aren’t that good. These playful little banter fights usually end with him tickling you. He usually won’t give up until you admit that you are the best singer and piano player in the whole mansion. Cue Mozart walking in like challenge accepted.
The night Isaac finally confessed his feeling for you was on, one warm summers night. The night started of with Isaac taking you out to watch a musical concert. He knew just how much you love music. Before he had met you, he had never really bother taking the time to listen to music, as he had always been far to absorbed with his own work, to stop and smell the flowers. However since meeting you, he found himself utterly enjoying going to the opera and musical concerts and letting himself just get absorbed by the sound of music. He loved the way your eyes gleamed as you watched and listened to the performance.
After the concert, he lead you out into the garden, where his telescope had been all set up. The two of you sat together and stargazed while Mozart played some romantic classical music in the background, which was arranged by the resident hedgehog himself. Somewhere between the beautiful sight of the stars and the gentle melody playing in the background. Isaac build up the courage to finally reveal to you just how madly in love he was with you. He then produced a bunch of red roses out of thin air and resting in the roses was a card with a hand-drawn meme ( courtesy of Sabastian) asking you in the most hilarious way to stay in the past with him. The two of you met in a sweet kiss and the rest of the evening was spent cuddled in each other’s arms under the stars.
Both of you are pretty touch starved creatures, so expect to be cuddled, snuggled, kissed and hugged whenever Isaac comes across you. Like if Isaac spots you in the garden hanging laundry he will give you the biggest hug from behind, kiss your neck and then tell you how much he loves you, before he is off with Napo to teach the children.
Don’t worry about your impulsive behaviours, bottled up emotions or a quick temper. Isaac might be new to the whole human behaviour thing but he is very in-tune with your emotions and he will instantly pick up when you are feeling upset or angry. He will aim to fix every and all problems immediately, especially if it is causing you hurt or upset. This also counts for when you are over stressing yourself, about putting too high an expectation on yourself. If he sees you getting angry, stressed or frustrated, he will pull you into his arms and gently stroke your hair, you can’t be angry when you are being so gently held and loved. Isaac will sit an listen to all your troubles.
He always encourages you to communicate whenever you are having negative emotions so he can help you through it the best way he knows how, with cuddles. He would usually make you a cup of coffee and pull you into his lap and cuddle you, as you unpack everything and anything that had upset you that day. He will patiently listen and leave small little kisses on your cheeks to remind you that he is there for you and will support you no matter what
He loves your competitive side, even more so when you use it to win a bet and beat Arthur. HE also loves how open-minded you are. The two of you often teach each other new skills, for example, you have been teaching Isaac how to shoot while Isaac has been patiently teaching you maths and science.
He low key loves how possessive you are and is just as possessive over you. He absolutely adores you and will remind you of that every single day.
He loves holding your hands and giving you small kisses on the cheeks whenever the two of you go out together. He honestly can’t believe it when you feel insecure about the way you look, “You are honest to God, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.” Will tickle you and shower you with kisses and loving words whenever you are feeling insecure about yourself.
He will always snicker when your feisty side comes out. Like whenever you sass the men at the banquets for spewing gender based stereotypes and being ignorant. Once they have been put in their place, Isaac while still laughing at the hilarious smack-down you just gave the ignorant men will always give you the sweetest kisses, “God, I love you so much.”
Isaac legit loves everything about you from your quick temper to your clumsy streak. You best be sure this hedgehog is ganna be right by your side whenever you clumsily injure yourself. He will legit sweep you off your feet and nuzzle into your neck, all while making sure you didn’t injure yourself too severely.
This boy loves you to the moon and back and would do anything to make you happy. If you are overexerting your injured knee you best be sure he will piggyback you to his room and do everything in his power to ease away the pain. Even if that means taking a soothing hot bath with you.
Often the two of you cuties can be found cuddled together, each reading their own book. Both your love languages are physical touch and quality time so Isaac is happiest when you are nestled near him simply spending some good quality time together.
Other potential matches…………. Comte
I hope you have the best day lia! Sending ya all the hugs! ❤❤🌻 @i-sleep-like-napoleon

Weight: Somewhere around 60-80 kilos hehe
Build: Voluptuous? Did i spell that right?
Hair: Her hair is curly and it used to reach up to her elbows but now it’s up to her jaw.
Skin: Fair complexion. Fujita did say her face is smooth but her arms are rough. (Notice how Fujita does all the commenting? She’s a bitch)
Eyes: Her eyes are inspired by Muzan’s! They are green in color but the slits are very demon-like which scares other slayers sometimes.
Mouth: Not too thin but not too full.
Hands: Small! She hates it because anyone can literally wrap their fingers on her hands and wrist.
Feet: Small.
Scars: None.
Other features:
Noteable features: a helix piercing.
Voice
Accent: Very motherly-like? It reminds you of a mother.
Verbal Ticks: Has difficulty with pronouncing ‘r’
Language: Let’s assume they speak Nihonggo.
Articulation:

Excercise: Being a slayer.

Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Romantic: She’s never tried to be in love so I can’t tell. She does get jealous of partners being affectionate to one another (not her getting jealous when she went for Fujita and Amida's wedding but is also too tired for commitment. I mean, being a demon slayer is already a big commitment-)
Memory: Poor. HAHAHAHAH.
Planning: THE BRAIN OF THE GROUP. BE IT AT THE FIELD OR JUST AT A NORMAL BASIS. EVERYONE THINKS SHE IS RIGHT AND SHE IS MOST OF THE TIME THOUGH.

Goals: To protect her friends in honor with her senpais.
Insecurities: Her scars from the demon who tried to kill her.
Achievements: She became one of the most highly-regarded demon slayer.
Anxiety: Deadlines. And the sound of her speaking crow.
Overwhelmed: When she sees too much blood. She can handle it but...not too much.
Self-help: She sucks surprisingly! She’s good at giving advice but she can’t apply them on her own. But Junko, Amida, and Maria has her back dw.
Comforts: Her friends.
Philosophy: To do things in honor for her deceased fathers and her demon slayer senpais who saved her from that hellhole
Triggers: Demons.
The Past
Parents/Guardians: She lives with her father. At their village, rumors spread that there’s actually a demon living at the mountain near their village. Men of their village decided to raid the mountain in the hopes of killing this demon.
With this, she was forced to live on a different household, working as their maid for the mean time while her father is away. But surprisingly...the village never heard about the men for months after they left. A survivor managed to return though, only to say that the people shouldn't expect for the rest, including Maria's father.
School: Her father thought her the essential skills for her to survive (cleaning, cooking, even hunting)
Adolescence: She gained more weight and she grew taller.
Leaving home: Didn’t mean much to her. It was leaving her father’s memories behind that pains her.
Further education:
Life events: She grew hysterical when a survivor from the group of men who raided the demon’s den was able to come back to the village. No one believed him when he told them that he’s the only one who survived.
Maria refused to believe his bullshit and so, she went to the mountain herself, only to be knocked out unconscious by the demon the moment she went in the abandoned house.
Worst day of their life: When she raided the demon’s lair alone. She was mad, yes, but she was terrified as well.
Lessons: Things just don’t go according to your way sometimes.
The Relationships
Family: She grew with her father but he unfortunately died. When she was knocked out by the demon, she had to be surrounded by corps for months and that developed her slight trauma for blood. Waiting for her end, she was miraculously rescued by these 'demon slayers' who would become her senpais.
Her senpais are both members of the demon slayer corps who were tasked to kill this demon. Maria was the only one alive amidst the sea of corpses so they took her in.
Because of this, Maria was inspired to become a demon slayer, not only as a sign of gratitude but also as a way to avenge her father.
Notice how her clothing has onion-print on them and she has her tips dyed pink? Because her other senpai loved onions and they also had onion-print on ther uniform while the other had their hair dyed pink. She did these to honor her senpais. I mean, okay Maria you are grateful but that's just plain weird.
She then meets Junko, Fujita, and Amida who became her friends and her family.
Friendships: Junko, Fujita and, Amida.
Friends in need: She will not hesitate to HELP you.
Annoyance: She grumbles a lot! She wouldn’t speak her thoughts but you’d hear her mumbling underneath her breath. Again, witchcraft according to Fujita.
Romance: Heard of it but never tried it. In the future, she knows it, she wants to try it, but is too lazy.
Marital problems: bich?
Adversaries: -
Enemies: Demons, dirt, and insects.
Strangers: She’s very approachable even though she is an introvert.
Fun stuff: She loves to eat onions! (raw, caramelized, or what)
Dating: None
Best friend: Amida, Junko, and Fujita
Love: Her father, her senpais, her friends.
Respect: Her father for risking his life and her senpais for saving her. Fujita for accepting her despite of being a 'commoner' (we all know Fujita is joking but Maria took it personally. Not offended though). Junko for letting her in her life despite her trauma and Amida for accepting her even if she couldn't replace his senpai.
Interactions
Mingling: She’s very timid at first but she’d warm up eventually.
Comfort levels: Comfortable talking to people who are older than her. She thinks younger people are as stubborn as Fujita.
Physical: She likes to give cuddles occasionally. Well, shed love to all the time only if her gang is into physical touch.
Group: She looks fine but she’s very anxious deep inside when talking to a group of people.
Jealous: Of those who still have their father.
Temper: SHORT. Like an asian mom’s.
Empathy: She feels for her friends. They all had it rough in different ways.
Affectionate: MOTHERLY-LIKE.
Distaste: When she hates someone, she tries to be kind to them. Fujita tells her to just straight ass tell them she dislikes them but Maria is too kind for that.
Responsibility: To eliminate every demon she sees.
Self-esteem: Normal.
Honesty: I wouldn’t say honest but secretive? Like, if you didn’t ask, she wouldn’t say.
Leader or follower: A LEADER. Though she’s confused why but she is.
Praise: She likes them!
Criticism: She accepts them!
Insults: She disregards them. She knows better anyway.
Embarrassment: Hmmmm when they see her eat raw onions? Because that’s disgusting for some?
Flirting: Haven’t tried.
Attention span: OOMF! Poor when not on a mission. But when she is on a mission, she becomes very attentive.
Tumblr media
This is my last post of being a dork so might as well pour out all of my nerdiness >=]]]]]
MARIA
•Maria is the eldest of the 4 and is the first one to join DSC.
•Maria has her hair pink and her clothes designed with onion patters to honor her seniors who saved her from the demon near her village. (Emphasized on her back story)
•Maria was attacked by the demon residing at the mountains near her village. Hitting her head with shards of glass, specifically her eyes. This is then the reason why she wears glasses. (Emphasized on her back story).
•Maria is the mother figure of the 3.
•Maria has separation anxiety because of her daddy issues. (Emphasized on her back story).
•With her sepanx, Maria would insist on having the group in tack in missions even if the situation demands the 4 to split
•Maria, being treated like Cinderella from the household who sheltered her, is used to chores.
•Maria fights the cleanest.
JUNKO
•Junko joined DSC next after being influenced by Maria.
•Junko came from a wealthy family.
•Junko hates her father and his principles in life.
•Junko always had her hair tied up because she hated the fact that men loved her straight and silky hair.
•She also always had her hair cut raggedly (?) because men adored her straight hair.
•Junko hates talking about beauty. She thinks that everything and everyone is beautiful and must not be questioned.
•Junko hates arrogant, ignorant, and disrespectful men (emphasis on men).
•Junko, surprisingly, can tolerate Amida and he is so far, the only man who can touch her with ease.
•Growing from a rich family, Junko is accustomed with poetries, books, and paintings. These are the things Junko and Fujita get along well.
FUJITA
•Fujita came from a wealthy family.
•Fujita has brother complex hehe.
•Fujita, after hearing her brother's death, disappeared from her household for months. Eventually, she came back with dirty clothes, bloody wound, and with Maria, Junko, and Amida. At this point, she has already joined the DSC.
•Maria and Junko found Fujita fighting with the drunkards the night Maria and Junko indirectly adopted Fujita. Fearing for her life, they had no choice but to fight back against the drunkards.
•Fujita emphasizes on how Maria, Junko, and her should eventually retire and settle down with someone wealthy. (Maria and Junko hates this discussion)
•Growing from a wealthy family, she is used of things going according to her way so she is used on bossing everyone around.
•She likes Amida??? SIKE THEY'RE MARRIED
AMIDA
•Amida, after running away, was homeless for months. With no food, no shelter, and no money. (Emphasized on his back story).
•Amida loved his senpai so much up to this day, he dreams of meeting with him once again.
•Amida's biggest fear is to know that his senpai has turned in to a demon.
•Fujita found Amida on the streets. He had no choice but to go with Fujita because of starvation, homelessness, and dehydration.
•Amida seems like the only person who couldn't tolerate Fujita's banters and orders.
•Amida sympathizes with Maria. As much as possible, he helps with the responsibilities.
•Amida is a fast runner. Very much useful when fighting.
•Amida grew in the streets with senpai and is used to fights. Fighting against demons is not new to him.
•Amida considers himself bisexual. Aside from Senpai, the only person he admired is Fujita (romantically or platonically, it will be unanswered). He admires how she, with no doubt, brought him along with her when he had nothing.  THEY'RE MARRIED THO SO JOKE'S ON U
Amida
Junko

Siren’s song
Tumblr media
Gender: Romance, siren AU.
Suitor: Masamune.
It was rare for masamune to take a break to have fun, very rare. It was summer, and for one day he decided to go to the beach and enjoy himself. It was part of his principles, enjoy yourself as if it’s your last day alive! Of course, he needed to be a good leader for his clan, his people, which took good part of his time. It was observed from the other warlords that masamune has been more focused on his fun time then work as a warlord lately, and perhaps give him only one day off would make him focus more on his work on the other days. And what better place to find some fun than the beach? Perhaps go to fish? Swimm on the wide ocean? Find a partner for fun...? Who knows what he would find there? The one-eye dragon got closer to the sea, feeling the water on his feet. The cool breeze against his face, a pretty good place to relax, he closed his only eye and the thoughts of what he could do were running through his head. He was not the only one who were going to the beach, hideyoshi and mitsunari were on their way too! Masamune couldn’t wait them due to his excitement so he went ahead, one hour at least until they arrive and he was planning to start the beach day with a nice swimm! That until he saw something...
For his disappointment, he and the other two warlords were the only people going to the beach that day, the other warlords were too busy and when he arrived was no one there. So why was there a woman alone there? A very cute one! She was on the water, her arms supporting her body on a rock, only from her breasts to the top of her head could be seen. He stared at her as if thinking it was a hallucination, how could a girl so beautiful be there alone? He noticed only her breasts were covered by a...cloth? Well, that was interesting to him! It would be great to see other women using that when going to the beach. It covered her nipples, but he could see the top of them, gently pressed together. Was that water on his mouth? He smirked at the girl, who still didn’t noticed him, impressed to see a girl without hesitating to swim all by herself wearing almost nothing. You two could have fun together! But you were exposing yourself to danger, can’t trust the figures who can appear around here. Perhaps it would be better to warn you!
“Hey, little lady!” He spoke loudly, getting your attention. Those sweet and innocent eyes glared at his way, very cute indeed. “It would be better if you don’t swim to far, bad guys can come around here.” He tried to walk in your direction, ready to swim and caught you. But you were faster, faster than him! You sink into the water, trying to run away from him. He thought you might have drowned yourself, so he hurried and started to swim, holding his breath to search for you.
At first the water made his only eye get blurred, getting slowly adjusted to the fresh water. He searched for your body, moving arms to move around. He didn’t saw you, that was strange, were you only a hallucination after all? Before he could go to the surface he behold something he would never expect to be real. You weren’t drowning, you were swimming just fine, and it didn’t look like you needed oxygen, you didn’t look terrified, but you did seemed to be afraid of him, you didn’t got close but didn’t flee either. His eye widened, he lost control of holding his breath, forcing him to swim back to the surface. When he emerged from the ocean, masamune tried to understand what just happened, you...you had a tail! A blue one with strange purple glow, all the Japanese legends he had heard of Youkais or Onis always had a drawn of the creature, they would normally be scary, ugly, or too bizarre. It was all children fairytale, not real. But of all strange creatures he had heard, you were just so beautiful! Different from the weird looking Youkai, you were a pretty mythical creature. Was he finally insane? More than he already was...
Before he could think any further, your head appeared from the water, your cute face a little scared. Was the eyepatch that scared you? Made you think he was one of those pirates? He tried to get closer again, but you hide yourself behind a rock, looking at him from there. Perhaps it would be best to gain trust? He sighed as he kept himself balanced with his arms.
“Look, little...lady. Didn’t mean to scare you, although it’s not recommended, you can trust me. I won’t hurt you, just want you to come here.” It was difficult for him to keep his voice calm, it didn’t suited him. You slowly showed more of you, getting closer to him. “See? You don’t need to get any closer. Tell me your name and I will tell you mine.”
You looked to the side as if questioning yourself if it was a good idea, your attention fell on him again “it’s (Y/n). You are...?” Cute voice too! Everything on you was cute.
“Heh...I am the one-eye dragon, Date masamune!” He said proud of himself, smirked at you. His throat let a chuckle sound be heard as he saw your face got blushed. He finally could get closer to you, one of his arms trapped you against the rock. He knew you could leave anytime if you felt uncomfortable, which didn’t happened. “What are you doing around here, lass? I know that you are a sea creature, but being close enough to let a guy see you? You do know that you are very cute, right?” You didn’t respond, but your heart started to bear fast, was this guy...flirting with you?
“I think I am aware of the danger. Thank you for the reminder.” His gaze was all over you, he couldn’t help it but think what would it feel like to kiss you.
His face got closer to yours, he caught your chin gently and stared with his only one eye your rosy lips. You didn’t back away, your hands were on his shoulders, not knowing if it was better to back away or let a guy, a very sexy one, you just met kiss you. Before he could even start-
“Masamune! We arrived, lord hideyoshi brought watermelon for us.” Mitsunari excited voice was heard, making masamune to look back at him. Hideyoshi was by his side holding the fruit under his arm, they were prepared for a relaxing day, but he could agitate their day.
“Just one moment! There is a-.” Before he could continue, he felt soft and wet lips touch his cheek and a splashing sound. When he looked at where you were, there was nothing.
“A what? Hurry up, we can’t be here for too long.” Hideyoshi said as he walk to prepare a spot for them to sit. Masamune could only chuckle quietly when he remembered your cute lips and the feeling of them touching his cheek.
When he got back to the sand he passed the rest of the day with the two warlords, eating watermelon and preparing dinner for them with the fish he had caught, teasing hideyoshi when he had the opportunity. Although it was fun to spend that day off, masamune could think of only one thing: he wanted more of your kisses. Not only on the cheek.
Fin?
Hello! Just passing here to say the next and final one to be made it’s ranmaru!
