Last year during Ace Week I shared few posts talking about my fav podcast aspec character at the moment - Jonathan Sims, Zolf Smith, Arkady Patel, Aroace partners from Monstrous Agonies and Rudyard Funn. Since then I adopted some more aspec characters (some through headcanons only but still I am not giving them back) so I thought I will share them!

Marwood (Dark Ages) – Canonically not interested in sex either in elf way nor in human way. He only cares about his museum and sharing knowledge. He even wears handmade vests.

Hampton Fawx (Fawx & Stallion) – Aroace icon we all need (yes, that’s everything I have to say)

Skip Granger (Mission rejected) – He didn’t get a comment that (I think) had sex as a subtext and that’s everything I need to slap ace sticker onto the character. He also literally befriends everyone and have zero sexual tension with anyone.

Walt Pensive (Hello From The Hallowoods) – That old man doesn’t get labels and he’s such an icon for it. My ahsexual, aces, ace-hexual <3 No other option but completely love him

tbh I’m surprised kou is popular in japan when him and ruki seem to be the least loved among all diaboys in the english fandom

// Imo Kou has never came across as disliked in the Western fandom. I’ve seen people say stuff about not seeing any Kou stans out there but even so, there are still many people who love him. He might not be everyone’s favorite, but he’s definitely not hated.

On the other hand, I’ve always felt like Ruki is the one who’s mostly disliked.

Since you mentioned Kou, I’m not promoting any sort of hate here, since he’s one of my favs, but he’s portrayed in the fandom as “cheerful vampire idol who loves cats”, whereas Ruki is seen as “Ew cat killer master wannabe”, despite the fact that both of them are canonically two-faced. While I agree that he’s… not nice to have around at all sometimes, what kinda bothers me is how people mostly hate him for the cat scene. I really don’t like that scene either and the poor animal surely deserved better, but at the same time, that scene was meant to be symbolic and MB was literally his debut game, therefore of course he’d do crazy things. I understand people who dislike Ruki for stuff he does constantly throughout the games, given that he is indeed displayed in a negative light from time to time (such as when he abandoned his brothers to death, when he planned Ayato’s downfall and so on), but I just wish people would stop reducing his character to just one scene that happened at the beginning.

This doesn’t only apply to Ruki, but to any other DL character. It’s really tiring seeing how some are labelled as “cinnamon rolls”, while others as “irredeemable monsters”, when most of their actions are so similar.

Ngl when I see ppl shipping Jamie and Dr. O'Sullivan I think they're at least a little homophobic and very straight.

well, i disagree with a blanket accusation of homophobia, but I do think it's an opinion that holds a very ~straight appeal~, definitely, lol.

there are honestly a boat load of reasons i hate it but they boil down to:

i kind of get why people (esp. a segment of the general audience) might be attracted to it because it's soooo something (bad) shows/sitcoms would do. Like, my god is it TRITE. Predictable, formulaic...boring as all hell! Of course he's going to get with the nameless sister who has less than five minutes total of screen time, just for a little added spice and drama, sure. That's what happens in (bad) shows. But luckily for the rest of us, Ted Lasso even at its worst is not that brand of bad, lol.

it's completely baseless? Nothing wrong with a baseless ship i guess, but at the same time...literally why this one? lol. Like, Jamie and Roy's sister share one scene together in which I don't believe they even say anything to one another directly? There is no chemistry, no...anything? The entire premise for the ship seems to be Jamie telling Roy his sister is hot. Which was very clearly intended as a way for Jamie to get under Roy's skin. Nothing about the scene makes me want to see those two dating.

the big proponents of it i've seen (often, definitely not always) seem to fit into one of two categories 1) people who don't really like Jamie and/or are upset Jamie "got in the way" of their ship, and thus want him to be written into a corner that pulls him away from their preferred couple/inherently shuffles up their dynamic. they don't actually care to watch a plot between Jamie & Roy's sister, they just want Jamie firmly categorized as Taken and thus Not Interested in Roy and/or Keeley, and this is a convenient and predictable(y stupid) way to do it. lol.

OR 2) people who DO really like Jamie and in fact really like Roy & Jamie, but in a very "no homo" way, who want to see more of their dynamic and have a way to define/further explore their closeness, whilst also justifying their own enjoyment of it, that's well set apart from "they have homoerotic tension." Jamie & Roy's sister dating holds an appeal because it more explicitly puts their relationship into firm "brotherly" territory. And I unabashedly loathe that for the same reason i loathe "Roy is Jamie's father figure!" ...foremost because no really, they can just be best friends!! Even if you do not want to ship roy-jamie romantically, you do not need to slap different familial labels on them (or put them into random other pairings) to make their relationship "more." Their relationship is already "more"...they are canonically best friends!! idk if I'm explaining this in the best way but the mindset behind it often feels very rooted in ~the nuclear family is the most important relationship a person can achieve~ and thus a need to fit everyone into traditional family roles (and in some cases that PLUS blatant homophobia) and it gives me a personal ick. Ew.

If you want to see quirky jamie & phoebe antics or roy and jamie bickering, Jamie x Roy's sister getting it on is in fact not actually necessary for any of that? (and imo doesn't add anything to anyone's arc) Going back to point one...using that pairing to get there feels TO ME very boring and sitcom cartoony.

(i also obviously dislike it for my personal shippy reasons and must acknowledge my bias. 🫡 Jamie dating his best friend's sister when he clearly has a crush on said best friend is a relationship-based mental low point/cry for help i do not actually want him to go through as my fav character, LOL.)

(disclaimer: people can of course feel differently and are entitled to ship whoever they want without even needing a clear reason or explanation! that's totally valid! i want to reiterate I don't think it's inherently problematic as a ship. I just personally think it's a rotten tomato of a plot point and i'm so beyond glad the show didn't waste time entertaining it.)

I sometimes feel like ppl read too much into 2012 a bit, not in a bad way or anything that exactly what fandom does. We pick apart our fav media, looking for all the subtle hints and little interactions to feed our fave headcanons and canons.

But it's back to that Steven universe killing the diamonds conversation, this is a show predominantly written for 11 year Olds 😭 and not only that it's a show that put cool fight scenes first and treated emotions and relationship dynamics as an after thought. It was also literally made in a period of time when shows were kind of mean. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it but it just means does nuances and stuff won't really be the main focus point of the show(which I also think it's an added bonus because it gives fans so many different ways to add that nuance themselves) and at the end of the day we all will leave with different interpretations since the show wasn't so firm in expressing the overall dynamics and pushed everyone aside to make Leo the main focus alot of the time.

Like for me, I couldn't stand how splinter treated Raph. I related most to Raph as a kid and found how Raph was treated by splinter infuriatingly similar to how my mother treated me and for Leo I personally thought he had it best compared to his brothers because he had the closest relationship to Splinter but when I asked my little sister about it she said that she thinks he has it worse because splinter basically used him as his personal therapist and used him to deal with his problems. I never thought of it like that and honestly thought the worst part of their relationship was that Splinter left Leo to be the leader of the group in and outside of missions but I learnt a new perspective and I didn't immediately refute it because I didn't see it at first.

And I really think this is one of the biggest problems with the 2012 discussion. We always try to put everything into black and white, neat little boxes with best little labels. But there is always a gray area and sometimes it might not even be grey it can be fucking pink. We need to respect eachothers interpretations of the relationships and try to not be too quick to bash eachothers interpretations to a pulp.

And sometimes we are too blinded by rises awesomeness that we don't find the need to pay attention to 2012's awesomeness too and only look at the negatives.

And in a tangent too many ppl refuse to give 2012 a chance😭😭 ppl are too ready to call it out but haven't watched it in years. They use 2012 to make rise brothers look better.

I'll be looking for a crossover fic between the two iterations and the only thing I'll find is ppl writing 2012 April and Raph(and sometimes Donnie) like literal demon spawns and it honestly makes me kind of sad like we could have used that opportunity to add like nuances to their characters but instead we write them so unnecessarily mean😭😭😭 like babes stoppppppppp I just want to see the brothers be besties not rise brothers adopt Mikey because 12 brothers are evil monsters that don't care about their baby brother.

Sorry if this is hard to follow, I'm really bad with writing stuff that aren't in bullet points lol. And even tho English is the only language I know doesn't mean I know how to do it well😭😭😭

It’s so out of the ordinary, so unlike her ugly li’l sweaters or her surburban mama button-ups, he does a double take, head whippin’ around so fast that she catches it immediately. Then she catches where his gaze lands, where it keeps landin’ through their whole stilted, irritated conversation, and he sees her chest pinken til he can count her freckles. He sucks his lower lip into his mouth, and her lips fall open just the smallest bit, and then she looks up at him.

Eyes locked on each other, Rio takes a step closer. Elizabeth doesn’t back away.

I feel like I've recced this fic 1,200 times at this point, haha, but it really is one of my favourite fics in the fandom. It has this sort of grip on you as a reader that almost embodies Beth's grip on Rio in the story, and the way it builds and builds and releases only to build and build again is really delicious, affecting writing.

I'm a bit of a sucker for a good canon divergent fic, and this one pivots the car break up in 2.12 in a smutty way that just works unfairly well. It's such a great little fic that really settles well into Rio's headspace during the messiness of s2, and I love it.

They settle in their respective places and Rio takes the opportunity to give Elizabeth the same once over that asshole did. Her ass really does look great in those pants and she could fill out any shirt. Her eyes linger over him too, tracing his skin, the bar tattoos peeking out from under his t-shirt that she’s seen a million times but she devours at every opportunity. Then her eyes meet his and she gives him that small, crooked lil’ smile.

He’s not one for religion, but every so often he takes his mom to Spanish mass. All the viejitos and pious Catholic types think he’s a banger but his ma’s still excited to show him off. He sits with her in the pew and when the priest asks for the congregation to give thanks to God, he says a prayer for the riches that have come to him, the health and brilliance of his son, the vitality of the other little ones in his life now, and Elizabeth. And when he thinks of her in those moments, he sees her in his mind’s eye with this exact look on her face.

A Bit of a Stretch by @septiembrre 5k words. Teen+. Beth x Rio. Established relationship.

Beth and Rio do a yoga class together! There’s such a lived-in feel to this fic that it feels impossible not to fall a bit in love with it – their relationship is explored in a way that feels true to who the characters are, while sanding down the edges to create something that feels sweet in the way they usually aren’t in canon. It's a great fic, but more than that, it really just works in a way that's a lot more complicated than it looks, and it’s all the more charming for it.

Okay, I know I just said how much I loved canon divergence fics, but it bears repeating – I love canon divergence fics, haha. This is such a great alternate take on how the wire scene in 4.05 goes down, and it simmers with tension from the opening line. The way it escalates as Rio navigates this newest betrayal works really well too, and it results in a pretty sexy and surprisingly emotional sequence. Magic!

It's not for everyone, but I absolutely love fics that feature characters with other people in ways that tell you something about the characters' feelings about somebody else. In this fic, Rio's fucking one of his childhood friends, but it's all about Beth really, and the way both Rio and the OC negotiate that is really compelling writing, and feels so in character for Rio. I really love it.

Rio dreams of her that night, again. It’s irritatingly pedestrian – Elizabeth’s kissing him deep and then, ah, suddenly his gun’s in her hand and she shoots him, with a double encore. It’s always variations on the same futile theme. When he wakes it’s not that he’s freaked, unaware of reality or his whereabouts. But he’s been soaked in anger for so long. He can’t think straight, not on her. It’s honestly terrifying. Cos stubbornly keeping his head on right is – that’s him. Maybe her entire raison d’etre is destroying every single one of his attributes though.

He ain’t sure if his subconscious is desperately screaming that he’s made the wrong move, letting her live. Or if it’s the total opposite. Could be fucking neither. It’s not – it’s not getting any easier. And that main reason for not biting the bullet, that he’d be mad as hell for being mad as hell at himself over killing her, it's not smelling any less idiotic.

I know that Edelstans are pretty vocal and wide known bc of their takes, but Claudestans are on a whole other level (especially on Twitter). Be prepared to get bombarded with things such as "biphobe, islamophobe, racist..." if you say you don't like him or don't find him particularly interesting (or don't ship him at all)... Why are all 3h stans so obnoxious??

Honestly rabid Claude stans managed to turn me off of Claude. I liked him at the start, he was my favourite Lord, I picked Golden Deer for him, I romanced him. But the "every justifiable issues you may have with Claude is racist or islamophabic" or "if you don't think Claude's gay your homophobic" (he's literally the straightest man in the cast I stand by this statement, come at me with your homophobia label I'm literally a bi girl I will laugh at your attempts to smear me).

Like I never expected Dimitri to end up my fav Lord but like I find his fans to be the most chill (although even he's got his crazies just not as many nor are they as vocal) and he's easily the best written of the trio.

As for why..... Lots of younger fans maybe? Or the fact the game practically encourages you to just make up your own canon so when that happens people get annoyed and defensive when someone else's canon doesn't align with theirs. Like Awakening and Fates had its fair share of shitty fan wars but at least the actual plot was consistent and easy enough to follow to the point everyone at least was arguing on the same page and not arguing from two different books.

They only include characters like Boyd or Danny because they aren’t “threats” to Sterek or Stiles and Peter or whatever white dude ship with a creepy age gap is the center of that work

PEW: You see, that’s actually the sad part.

Technically, somewhere, there could be a story labeled Good Peter Hale where Peter recognizes that it was terribly wrong of him to go bite a teenager and then pretend either that the boy had it coming for being out in the middle of the night, the boy benefited from the physical transformation he didn’t consent to so he should be grateful, or that it doesn’t matter anyway. Technically, somewhere, there could be a story labeled Good Peter Hale where Peter seeks actual redemption, starting with Scott. Unfortunately, most of the time, Good Peter Hale means that Peter is “good” to Derek or Stiles.

Technically, somewhere, there could be a story labeled Scott is a Bad Friend that is actually about a character that resembles Scott McCall and not an OOC mess who only exists to give Stiles (or the character called Stiles which is actually an OOC stand-in for the author) existential angst. There could be a story which argues that the trauma inflicted on Scott made him insensitive to others needs or his desire to prove his humanity made him a bully, but doesn’t erase Scott’s emotional connection to Stiles and the good things he did.

(The most hilarious things are the Scott is a Bad Friend stories which feature Stiles pushed out of the pack or exiled after the Nogitsune are the ones that completely skip over what Scott did in 3B. Like, there isn’t even a recognition of the idea that Scott defied adults and risked his own life and other’s lives not to give up on Stiles. Most stories don’t even address it, no matter how inconsistent it makes their story. It’s just bad writing, folks.)

Now, before a lot of people go off the deep end, I’m not saying that you can’t write these stories. I’m not lurking in your home ready to throw you up against the wall if you write something I don’t like. I’m simply pointing out that certain tropes have become so prevalent that they’re applied without due consideration, no matter how warped the products they produce are.

I’m also pointing out, as my friend @russianspacegeckosexpartypointed out above, why these have become popular. When I talk about white prioritization, this is what I mean. Canonically, Peter Hale’s primary antagonistic relationships were with Derek and/or Scott, but the label Good Peter Hale seldom indicates Peter improving his relationship with Derek and possibly never indicates Peter improving his relation with Scott.

And Scott is a Bad Friend possibly never indicates that the story is about Scott being a bad friend. It’s often a way of focusing attention on Stiles and getting rid of his uncomfortable characterization that he’s Scott’s best friend. These tropes enable the story to center on white character without having to actually laying any foundation for it. They’re short cuts.

Leaving aside that a Good!PeterHale story doesn’t need to be canon at all, and that Peter might be an ex-assassin and space cowboy now operating a flower shop in Europa 7 in a universe where werewolves don’t even fucking exist, where on earth does the idea that a good Peter Hale story should be all about Peter apologising for biting Scott, huh Prince? Not about killing Laura? I mean, she’s just a girl in a fridge, isn’t she?

It’s where they belong, of course!

Look at these asshole, frantically trying to virtue signal and circle jerk at the same time…with not a single mention of a female character…

Scott might be the main character in Teen Wolf, but he’s not the main character in Peter Hale’s life. Not anything near it. He’s a fly in Peter’s ointment, nothing more.
