[head in hands] jack kelly. i actually didn’t really connect to him much, or at least didn’t feel like i did, the first time i watched livesies, but watching 92sies knocked something loose and ohhh my god. he just like me fr and all that. parentless and lies about it not bothering him, has this big easy personality to cover up any ounce of vulnerability, always ends up in charge of situations looking after everybody, no real home just the kids he loved and looked after in each place he stayed, avoidant, dreamer, bisexual, stupid. he’s me.

genuinely a cinematic masterpiece. like, even without the context of newsies and it being the cast, if i stumbled upon it i would still love it. i love ridiculous campy horror, and i love boys having fun.

i would give anything to know the discussions and conversations that went into every single scene, particularly each that involved getting other people involved.

george crawford (uk morris) and matthew duckett (uk crutchie) my absolute beloveds. i’ve met them both twice now and they were both unbelievably sweet both times, they bring amazing depth to the characters and are both insanely talented (especially george covering jack kelly) in playing every part of the characters from humour to honesty to the depths of their traumas, and they’re both hilarious on social media. i miss alex jh (original uk oscar) so dang much, he was also unbelievably fantastic. and mike faist and brendon stimson (obc morris and oscar respectively).

oh boy. i feel like almost all my delancey opinions are unpopular opinions, mostly boiling down to the fact that they’re not mindless monsters and they’re not meant to be. they’re villains and assholes, obviously and unquestionably, but there’s depth there and there’s always been depth, built right into the script (“i guess he didn’t take care of me”, etc etc), and intentionally dug deeper by practically everyone that’s played them.

also, the newsies are scrappy and ruthless and rude. they’re trouble, and they do it on purpose. they’re assholes almost every chance they get. they’re all kids in rough situations, and kids like that will do anything for a bit of power. it’s not necessarily a reflection of character, it’s just how stuff like trauma manifests, particularly at that age. characterising them as well-socialised and always well-meaning, etc, is a disservice.

maverick is the product of a relationship that only lasted a few ours between gabriel summers and amelia lawson, both mutants. yet, he has no memory of his parents. only a few days after his birth, amelia abandoned the baby outside a church and never looked back. the only thing he gave the boy was his name, maverick lawson.

the following years, mav went through quite a few families, but none that became his. he went through everything, from physical abuse to neglect or simply not fitting in with the family; what remained true was that he never stayed for long in the same place. at times, he would even sneak out in the middle of the night.

he was oblivious to the fact he was a mutant for a long time, until he was about nine. it was trauma that had his powers to manifest a lot sooner than they should have. one minute he was being attacked by a man who wanted more than he was willing to give and the next the man had disappeared, along with the everything else around them.

maverick had no idea what had happened, but the energy signature had been so strong that it made the x-men radar. a team was deployed to go check the situation and they brought maverick back with them; it was the first time he met charles and erik. despite his best attempts to not get attached, he soon became part of their family.

it would take another year or so before the truth behind his parentage would be reveled to him, but by them he already had a family. the next years, he would uncover more of his powers and with plenty of help try to control and harness them. it is still unknown just how far mav’s powers go. he joined the x-men and took the name of verve. and, to make his parents happy, he enrolled into arcadia where he’s studying architecture.

he lived on the streets for a while and is very street smart, but he was behind school when he first got adopted and needed tutoring to catch up.

one of his favorite hobbies is drawing and he is quite good, but doesn’t show to many people.

doesn’t really consider himself a summers because he harbors too much resentment toward his bio parents.

he has trust issues and doesn’t open up easily, preferring to keep people at arm’s length.

Lifelong tomboy, as a child i once asked myself something along the lines of "could I actually be a boy? I don't THINK I'm a boy, so I guess that makes me a girl?" Absolutely HATED IT when my chest grew in. Ever after puberty I occasionally had dreams where I had a penis, always woke up disappointed that I didn't still have it. OH, and I fucking hated my name my whole life, I always wanted to go by nicknames (anything was better than my deadname, ANYTHING, some bullies at school called me sasquatch bc I was tall and didn't shave my arms/legs and I wore that with pride). Always LOVED when girl characters had androgynous names like Alex or Sam or Logan.

Went through a phase in college where I tried to femme it up as a pushback against internalized misogyny and bc I thought I was undateable, hated that in ways I absolutely could not describe, finally gave that up for the most part but just figured I must be a kinda soft butch bisexual but that just felt wrong for some reason. Started going by a different name both at work and among friends, it has since been retired but it had somewhat of an ambiguous gender if it wasn't spelled out (Dawn, but often people heard it as Don- I was always pleasantly amused by this, said it reminded me of Don Quixote).

Got a tubal ligation in 2018 as a remedy to my overwhelming fear of pregnancy (a manifestation of yet undetected gender dysphoria) despite having never had penetrative sex at that point in my life (majorly in part to the dysphoria + fear of pregnancy)

Realized I was nonbinary in July of 2019 following the release of Good Omens and subsequent discovery of the concept of gender EUphoria and a seemingly throwaway line to a coworker that I'd cosplayed a male presenting character (Crowley in his modern apparel) at Magic City Con and had really enjoyed the way that felt (cue lightbulb oh moment and several seconds of BSOD as I tried to recalibrate my whole life while holding up an overweight geriatric poodle so coworker could shave his paws)

Decided I wanted to try they/them pronouns shortly after, started going by Anthony not long after that.

Was content in the "shallow end" (for me- for others this is the whole pool) for a while, toyed with the idea of going on Testosterone and getting top surgery, didn't think I'd want bottom surgery.

Can't remember exactly when I did it, but cut my hair short winter-ish 2019/2020, it was definitely before March 2020 though.

Worked to make my wardrobe more and more androgynous-to-masc presenting, this paired with the hair cut started netting me more "sir-uh, ma'am?" and related gender-mysterious moments. Reeeally liked the way he/him/his/sir/etc felt.

Started T October 6th 2020. Got more and more incidental assumed he moments. Liked it. Eventually told friends I'd like to use they/he.

Time stamps over the last couple years have been more of a blur than usual for my time-blind ADHD brain Because Of Reasons, but it was a gradual transition along with my lowering voice and masculinizing appearance from they/he to he/they to these days really just being he/him with still accepting they/them.

Still feel like gender is a scam, and if pressed I'll describe myself as agender, but I enjoy being read as male, am working on raising funds for top surgery, and have hope that I might someday be able to get bottom surgery. At work and otherwise non-queer-centric spaces I just let people assume I'm a man. Sometimes I even pass.

Things to Know About Loki:

For the past twenty or so years, Loki has been hiding himself among the humans. He became rather disillusioned with the gods and all their political nonsense. Instead he has descended to seek out new adventures. Those first years were spent traveling. He still does a great deal of that now. Going in and out of Novigrad as the wind blows.

Too everyone he is known as Kit Thodin. A merciary that will work for just about any amount of money. Human or creature he will take it down for a good amount of coin.

Only the God known as Thor knows where Loki has been and what he’s been doing. Loki would like to keep it that way for now.

Humans tend to bore Loki just as much as the other gods do. He is also slightly jealous of them but thats for another time. He does like Mages and Witchers. He finds a sort of Kinship with mages and the magic that they wield. Witchers on the other hand, fascinate Loki. They have stories that do not bore him to tears. They truely can capture his attention and hold it for more than a fleeting moment.

Loki is known to be cruel at times. Setting up others to fail. However, it should be noted that Loki does get a thrill from being out done. He enjoys when someone he has underestimated comes up with a clever plan that keeps him guessing. He doesn’t often get this joy but when it comes he loves it as much as watching people fail.

Loki is indeed Bisexual. He has no preference for men over woman or vise verse. It is a right down the middle split for him. Though, at this point, it takes a very… interesting person to hold his attention long enough for any sort of romance to develop. He finds the whole thing rather tedious at this point. Even sex can be so very dull if done with the wrong person.

A small part of him is jealous of humans ability to live a mortal life and die. He has lived so long that death feels like the only thing Loki hasn’t experienced. An ending gives the start of anything meaning, does it not? He feels lost. As if he as wondered every path. Turned over each stone. He longs for new adventure. New sights and sounds. The thrill of the unknown excites him more than anything else these days.

In general, Loki is a little shit.

Finally, Loki’s magics manifests in a few ways. Illusions and hallucinations are as easy as breathing for him. He also has minor telekinetic magic. His abilities to stealth and fight hand-to-hand have also been slightly boosted by his magical abilities. His weapon of choice is a pair of twin daggers, Skofnung and Angurvadal. They are fairly normal daggers. The only thing magical about them is when they are not in his hand they return to his belt.

Kara was born in Maine, but later moved to Baltimore, Maryland with her family when her father left active air force and was recruited by shield. When she was 13 years old, her father, Tobias Palamas, unexpectedly died. the details surrounding his death were unknown, but the military spared no cost in seeing that her father has an honorable memorial service. at the time, Kara’s family knew nothing of his affiliation with shield, or even of the agency’s existence. they are never told of the heroism Tobias displayed in the moments leading to his death. it’s a mystery that follows her around for the next several years.

at 17 when she graduated high school and subsequently moved Providence, Rhode Island to begin her collegiate career on a full scholarship to brown university -- or at least that’s what they lead her to believe. she’s always enjoyed mythology and the ancient world, but her interest in the Ancient Greeks particularly manifested early on. in her junior year, she decided to continue onto higher education after obtaining her bachelor’s degree in ancient history and classics.

at 21 years old, Kara was accepted into Brown’s ancient history phd program. Her plans were interrupted when she was approached by an agency that calls themselves SHIELD, explaining that her help was need for a secret assignment in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Upon arrival of the shield containment facility in Los Alamos, she was assigned an agent to oversee her work and see to her safety during her time at the facility: thus, it was then she first met Agent Alex DePaul.

After the events that transpired in New Mexico, Kara had proven herself an asset in the eyes of S.H.I.E.L.D., and they decided it is time to fulfil their decades long plan of recruiting her as not only an asset, but a full blown agent. She decided then to commit to the agency and follow in her father’s footsteps, the details of his death having been finally revealed to her in thanks to Alex DePaul. For the next year, Kara spent nearly every day going through the rigorous motions of a compacted and unorthodox training program created and overseen by Agent DePaul, her official supervising officer. he taught her everything she needed to know in order to become a field agent. In this time, he became like a second father to her.

Simultaneous to her training with agent DePaul, Kara was assigned as a researcher to project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., a previously decommissioned initiative that was reactivated by the world security council following the events in New Mexico. due to the highly sensitive nature of the research conducted there, shield also provided its security force, including one of shield's best operatives: CLINT BARTON.

Soon, Kara began working at a joint dark energy task force facility in the Mojave desert as a part of PROJECT P.E.G.A.S.U.S., working alongside ERIK SELVIG, whom she had previously met only briefly in Los Alamos. still among the team was CLINT BARTON, on orders to keep watchful eye over the tesseract – and those who were working on it.

due to recent activity, agents NICK FURY and MARIA HILL visit the facility and decide that the facility must be evacuated. before any necessary precautions can be made, the tesseract activates, opening a portal from which LOKI appears. announcing his intention to conquer earth, Loki steals the tesseract and uses a scepter to enslave the minds of SELVIG, CLINT BARTON, and several agents, aiding him in his getaway.

Kara was one of the lucky bystanders that not only escaped LOKI’s mind control, but are able to flee the building before it collapses. She lost dozens of friends and co-workers that day, but was grateful that both she and Agent DePaul made it out alive.

Not long after, Kara was in New York continuing her training with Agent Alex DePaul when all hell broke loose in midtown, Manhattan. All hands were needed on deck and Agent DePaul was then authorized to bring her along to Stark Tower on her first active mission, although under strict orders: she is not to engage without threat of her life or without further instruction from a superior within the agency. She watched first hand, from Stark Tower, as events unfolded. it is the first time in her life she had ever witnessed such destruction, and it only strengthened her resolve to fulfill the duties of an agent of shield. A few months later she spent her 30th birthday as a part of PHIL COULSON's new team, where she remained until temporarily being reassigned to the Iliad helicarrier, which is where she was at the time shield fell.

Much like the tale Homer scribed within its namesake, the helicarrier’s purposed defeat lay within. the operatives that Hydra planted within all levels of S.H.I.E.L.D. served as a TROJAN HORSE with the sole purpose of bringing down the agency from the inside. they didn’t count on the loyalty and determination of the agents that dwelled beneath. The last thing Kara expected was to look into the eyes of someone she trusted wholeheartedly and realizing he was playing for the other team. the last thing she expected was those eyes to belong to Agent Alex DePaul: the man who taught her everything she knew, that taught her how to become the woman she had become. the man she shared a multitude of memories, regarding extensive training, long nights spent bonding over the life of Tobias Palamas, and the general struggles of life. The last thing she expected was to be the one to take his life.

Following this betrayal and subsequent fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., Kara went into hiding and took refuge in one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s many safe houses: a mistake she would come to regret for the rest of her life. Soon after arriving at the safe house, she was ambushed by Sunil Bakshi and a team of Hydra agents and kidnapped. Her hell only began there.

Once brought to Hydra leader DANIEL WHITEHALL, Kara was put through torture in the form of the faustus method, a device used to control minds of the unwilling, in hopes to have a high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent on their side. after days, Kara was able to free herself from her shackles – but all was lost as DANIEL WHITEHALL took away her last hope by locking her back up. Before she knew it, she had lost control. She went on to inflict heinous crimes in the name of her enemies.

One of the many missions they send Kara on first introduced her to the photostatic veil: a piece of nanotechnology that allows the wearer to take the appearance of another: in this case, that other was AGENT MELINDA MAY of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The mission takes a turn, and after Kara ended up in hand to hand combat against the one and only Melinda May, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent defended herself by using a fractured livewire to prevent Kara from inflicting further damage. The mask malfunctioned and became permanently seared to her face.

Kara's hell continued until San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2015 when DANIEL WHITEHALL was killed by PHIL COULSON, releasing her from his control of her mind: but also leaving her in a state of shock and confusion. Her instincts kicked in and it was decided that the priority at hand was escaping from those that have killed Whitehall.

While making an escape, Kara discovered former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent GRANT WARD bleeding on the ground having been shot multiple times. He offered her a way out, guidance while she had nothing and nowhere to turn: so despite rumors of his shifted alliance since they had last met, she helped him from the ground and together they escaped the clutches of both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra. After saving his life, GRANT WARD promised to help Kara get her life back — and revenge for what had been done to her. It was through the mission of regaining her true appearance and agency of her mind that the pair fell into a romantic entanglement, despite all odds standing against them: when she would later look back on this time, Kara often considers whether or not she had been in a consenting state of mind during this time.

For a brief moment in time, Kara and Grant built a life together: short, but one that convinced her that the possibility of being happy again — until the arrival of PHIL COULSON and his ultimatum. Either they help him in his mission against Hydra or die. Neither of them sharing allegiance toward the former, they chose to go along with Coulson and are brought to S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ.

While Grant goes out on the mission with their old team, Kara remains and is tested by their resident biologist and former friend, JEMMA SIMMONS. She delivered Kara with a clean bill of health: she had her faculties back. there were no remaining signs of Hydra's control...but as an inhuman attack is imminent and their lack of trust in Kara, they imprisoned her into Vault C: a place Grant has spoken near-horror stories about. Kara remained in Vault C, even despite the fear of vile treatment from those holding her there until matters settled down and eventually she was granted a visitor: LEO FITZ.

He had questions for her, and she could only imagine it was some form of closure he’s looking for. an answer. some sort of reasoning for what Grant did to him and Simmons. Kara wanted to help him, so she came clean with the story she was told: it was the only chance they had of survival, that JOHN GARRETT would have assured that both agents Fitz and Simmons were gifted bullets to the head, had grant not done what he had done. Through this conversation and subsequent ones with Fitz, Kara once again earned the trust of the team she had once been apart of. S.H.I.E.L.D. agreed to release her, and gave her the option of joining their team.

They called it her redemption.

From then on, Kara continued her rehabilitation with the help from new & former shield associations. she eventually joins a team (the renegades) assigned to rescue former shield agents & assets who had been displaced during the fall & left behind like she was.

Andrew Ford was questioned and fetishized when he came out as bisexual. The gay community insisted he wasn’t being honest with himself; women at clubs started to excitedly fantasize about hooking up with two guys at the same time.

All the while, the soccer standout stayed true to himself. Ford came out his freshman year at Malone University, a small Christian liberal arts college in Canton, Ohio — home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His friends and teammates were accepting, which was an incredible relief. But his journey into the LGBTQ community was a little more rocky.

“I got a lot of pressure from the gay community,” Ford told me recently on the phone. “I felt like I was misunderstood, and didn’t know who I was.”

Ford is one of an increasing number of openly bisexual college-aged athletes whom we’ve profiled recently on Outsports. Despite some surveys showing more Americans identify as bisexual than either gay or lesbian, there is a dearth of bi visibility in pop culture and sports.

As bi sportswriter Jeff Rueter challenged me: “name a bisexual man, and don’t say Frank Ocean.”

These kick-ass kids are going to change that.

Biphobia is real

Let’s start here: Biphobia is real. It manifests itself in gestures as seemingly fleeting as dismissive jokes, and actions as harrowing as outright physical violence. Bisexual people typically suffer significantly higher rates of depression and anxiety, domestic violence, sexual assault, and poverty than lesbians, gay men, or straight cisgender people, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

A black-and-white society, most of us grow up with the notion people are either straight or gay. Those attitudes have historically prevailed in the LGBTQ community, too.

Alex Keuroghlian, the Director of the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center at the Fenway Institute, says bisexual people can be looked at skeptically.

“Within LGBTQIA+ communities, there has historically been a stigma toward bisexual people, and the false notion that they’re really gay and lesbian people who haven’t accepted that about themselves,” he said.

Megan Duthart, a rower at Washington State University who identifies as both bi and queer, has experienced the stigma first-hand. She says she thinks bisexual people are often excluded in the LGBTQ community.

“I’ve struggled a little bit with being identified as an ‘other’ in the community with the term ‘bisexuality,’” she said.

Why are bi people targeted for erasure?

More people are identifying as bisexual. Over three percent of U.S. adults say they’re bi, according to the 2018 General Social Survey. That’s three times the number as 2008.

And yet, bi people are still targeted for erasure. One of the ways it happens is through language. When people see same-sex couples, for example, they may be inclined to label them as “gay” or “lesbian,” without considering that one or both of the people could identity as bi.

While Americans’ attitudes about sexuality are evolving, many still adhere to more binary definitions of sexual orientation. A recent YouGov poll found 41 percent of American adults don’t think sexuality is a spectrum (conversely, 37 percent think it is).

As Ford puts it, bisexuality is stereotypically viewed as “the stepping stone stage.” That ties into one of the more insidious aspects of bi-erasure: the belief that it’s just a phase. It’s a line Ford recalls hearing many times, from both men and women.

“(Gay men) said, ‘I came out as bisexual first. It’s just a phase, you won’t be there long,’” Ford said. “I was also scared how women would think about it. They wanted to change me. Some of them wanted to use it as a thrill they were seeking.”

When professional hockey player Zach Sullivan came out as bi, his father told him it meant he was still making up his mind.

“I remember what my dad said when I told him,” Sullivan said. “‘Well, you aren’t all the way there. You haven’t really decided.’ I was like, ‘no, I know I’m attracted to both genders. I’m not halfway towards coming out as gay.’”

The bi burden

Every LGBTQ person can relate to the fear and anxiety of coming out. But for most of us, once we do it, it’s over.

That’s not the case for bi people.

“We have to keep coming out to our significant others, whether it’s a man or a woman,” Ford said. “If you’re gay and you start dating a gay, you’re not going to be like, ‘I have to tell you something: I’m gay.’ They’re going to be like, ‘no shit.’”

And once bi people do come out, they could get charged with being greedy — the sexual equivalent of having their cake and eating it, too. The insult angers Sullivan.

“The majority of people in the LGBT+ community have struggled with their sexuality, and when they finally become comfortable enough to come out in the open with their sexuality, I don’t think the first thing to say to someone who’s come out as bisexual is they’re greedy,” Sullivan said. “I took over 10 years to get to where I am.”

Duthart finds the concept of bisexuality can be difficult to explain. She largely identifies as queer.

“I’ve had coaches question whether I’m rebelling or going through a phase,” she said. “Then when I explain the whole queer aspect, they’re like, ‘Oh, OK. That seems more justified.’ I don’t want to have to justify those things, but I sort of have to.”

Changing attitudes

Jack Storrs came out as bisexual last year as a college football captain. His teammates at Pomona-Pitzer rallied around him, and wore Pride decals on their helmets.

But even some who were supportive suggested he was on his way to identifying as gay. Storrs said he couldn’t hide his feelings for men anymore, and came out because he wanted to explore.

Maybe he was gay, maybe he wasn’t. The questions didn't bother him. He was a relieved to have the dialogue.

“It was killing me on the inside,” Storrs said. “It got to the point where I was like, ‘screw it.’ This is who I am, and this was meant to be.”

Nowadays, Storrs says he’s more towards the “gay end of the spectrum,” and expects the fluidity to continue.

He’s cool with that, and numbers show his peers are, too. Generation Z is among the most progressive and diverse in U.S. history. A 2018 study from Ipsos Mori shows only 66 percent of young people today identify exclusively as heterosexual.

Young people have a better understanding of how sexuality can evolve, says Keuroghlian.

“There’s been less of a reflex to box people in, and categorize people in ways that could be static,” he said. “A key part of all of this is not projecting behavior or projecting attraction. People tell us — they self-identify that’s who they are. And we have to honor that.”

Visibility challenges misperceptions

But to get back to Rueter’s question: can you name a famous out bisexual person besides Frank Ocean?

It’s challenging, and the lack of bi visibility may be one of the biggest contributors towards bi-erasure. But that is changing. Each person who comes out as bisexual has the ability to change perceptions within their own communities — and many young athletes are.

Bri Tollie, a bisexual college basketball player at Southern Methodist University, wrote in her coming-out story she refuses to conform.

“It is important to be visible because everyone is unique,” she wrote. “Our uniqueness means no one should not have to give up a part of themselves to conform. It is called self-respect.”

Growing up, Storrs tried to shut off his attraction to guys. He told himself it wasn’t a big deal, but the angst became all-encompassing.

Storrs is done hiding any part of himself. He did that for far too long, and is now out for all to see.

“I am bisexual, and my point is, I don’t really give a shit what anybody else thinks,” Storrs said. “This is who I am, and I don’t have to figure it out, but the reason I’m coming out is to figure it out, or at least get to a point where I’m comfortable.”

With their stories, these young bi athletes are making it more comfortable for bi people every single day.

Supernatural Theology Discussion at 3am, Featuring the Tired Minds of @castiel-noodle-soup and Yours Truly <3

A short discussion about Castiel, Destiel, love, God, and his implications in the SPN universe.

Alex: Imagine Cas is responsible for creating things that have always made humanity softer and more comfortable! Cas invented hugs. Cas invented chicken noodle soup. Cas invented the very notion of love when he gave Shakespeare the idea for Romeo and Juliet! God, am I having feels-

Lexi: Cas is a manifestation of good in the world, as I wrote many moons ago.

Alex: But- but y’see- the problem with that last idea is the classic connotation of Romeo and Juliet. The star-crossed lovers both die at the end. And…well. I’d find that so poetic. But yes, you’re right. Cas is good. And he will always be good.

Lexi: Romeo and Juliet isn't about love, it's about being young. I imagine it was Cas trying to teach good through bad. Moral of the story situation.

Alex: I think it’s about making mistakes, and making mistakes is the most human aspect of…humanity. So, for Cas to understand that…

Lexi: Awww, Cas just wanted the best for everyone. He really only wanted to use his angel advantage to help humanity.

Alex: Exactly! It feels like Cas has always been- I hope I’m doing this right- #not like other angels.

Lexi: He's not like the other angels, he actually understands the way angels and God are supposed to work before they get power hungry.

Alex: I wonder if Chuck was ever good.

Lexi: Okay, listen, I haven’t watched SPN but connecting back to the little understanding I have of biblical stuff, originally the angels were used for human communication and God even created the rainbow out of caring. So, Castiel is gay because he understands the modern and original significance of the rainbow as well as the whole actual plan of God. He is actually the good angel, despite being the rebel of free will.

Alex: You haven’t WHAT- okay, okay- just- hold on. First of all, I adore that idea. Cas is the embodiment of love, so it only makes sense for him to be a rainbow. And maybe, from my perspective…what if Lucifer was always good, since he encouraged free will rather than stifle and punish for it? So, maybe Cas was an anomaly. But! Second thing. I know I’m not one to talk, I’ve only seen like four or five seasons so far and a few of the important episodes, but- HOW?

Lexi: I understand spn better than the writers. The idea that Lucifer was good is interesting, especially considering Casifer, who actually says that he didn't believe in God's love for mankind.

Alex: First of all, I think somebody who only knows about SPN from their weird second cousin twice removed would know more than the writers, and second- yeah, I’ve always considered Lucifer better. Not in a satanist way, but in an “actions of god aren’t very great” way. God- or Chuck, if you mean him- doesn’t seem to love humanity. He loves power over humanity.

Lexi: That's good, right there. Chuck’s obsessive love for mankind WAS power, it makes so much sense!

Alex: It does, because Chuck was obsessed with control. Controlling the Winchesters. Controlling the angels. God’s first act was forbidding free will because he didn’t want to relinquish that power. This is galaxy-brain level understanding of SPN, holy shit-

Lexi: It's a great day to ascend and understand SPN in a way not even the writers realised they were doing. This theory also cements the idea that the first three seasons really were buildup to introducing their real main character.

Alex: You’re absolutely right, and since I choose to believe we’re living in a world where the writers actually have a sense of linear screenwriting, I think it was a genius move. Building up to something. Having most episodes be rinse and repeat, the same script, the same formula because Chuck. Was. In. Control. Then Cas breaks the game. New people are introduced. Dean is suddenly not the macho manly man, but a multifaceted, repressed man that is the epitome of stifled bisexuality- and then, the cruelest joke of all, or perhaps a deeper resolution- we get the exact ending the show warned us about for 15 years. Chuck wins BECAUSE they refuse to change. BECAUSE the writers finally gave up their free will.

Lexi: How does it feel to be a genius? SPN is not a show about brotherhood. SPN is a show about breaking a cycle. Ending patterns.

Alex: Except it simply ends as a warning for what happens when we choose to let go of our freedom and not break the cycle.

Lexi: THE BAD ENDING WAS ON PURPOSE! I love literary analysis.

Alex: Yes, it was- and it’s so obvious. I remember reading somewhere on here that the saturation and lighting of the episodes slowly became brighter and more colourful, and that only feeds the theory. Everything became a joke. This was how it was supposed to end, but Chuck missed one key fact. He underestimated love. Dean was always going to die. But Cas delayed it, he put a dent in that plan, and in doing so gave hope. Because you can change the inevitable. With…love?

Lexi: And Cas is love embodied.

Alex: He is! Which means that no matter how the Winchester’s stories ended, love won. And that in itself is beautiful.

Lexi: Love lost, actually. Because Dean died heartbroken and never reunited with his hope. Cas' is a punk story of rebellion and writing your own endings, as well as ending patterns and cycles, while Dean's is a story of holding on, whether for or because of someone. I dunno what the heck they did to Sam, though.

Alex: No. Dean and Cas’s story will always be a tragedy. But love won, at the core- fundamentally, it beat Chuck. Dean and Cas…they didn’t survive, but they became martyrs in the best way. They became inspiration for a generation to spread love. Neither Chuck- nor God, for that matter- could ever win against that. And…meh, Sam’s not important. He gets a weird wig.

Lexi: Y’know what Misha said about writing our own ending? Yeah, that was totally Cas. the embodiment of love. Destiel is like if Romeo and Juilet was gay and a plausible story. Rather than youthful mistakes, DILF mistakes.

Alex: One, Destiel is like Romeo and Juliet, if Dean didn’t have his love stripped from him and two, Sam…is not a DILF.

Lexi: I did not mean Sam as a DILF. DeanCas are DILFs, Sam and Jack are smol, and I want to pick them up and put them in my mouth and- y’know? Cas really did invent Romeo and Juilet, trying again and again and again. And he never did.

Alex: The idea of Cas always losing his beloveds…hurts.

Lexi: Sigh. The curse of being an angel.

Alex: He deserves to be happy, and the one thing he wants…is…the one thing he know he can’t have. Love. Love is all he’s ever wanted.

Lexi: He didn't get it in-series, but I'd like to imagine he's getting it now. When I smile at the bees and the honey- and, less subtly, the whole fandom. Cas, I think, also tells of the fact that you really do have to be brought up while you bring others up.

Alex: We gave Cas the ending the writers couldn’t. Maybe…us, as the audience…maybe we’re the ones who’ve won against Chuck. Because his plan backfired, and instead, we flourish. We spread love with others, and bring joy and happiness. Good gosh, the feels-

Lexi: We learned our lesson! Always choose free will!

Saw the new chapter, nice! BTW, how would the various characters celebrate Pride Month?

Apologies, I've been busy with last chapter's reviews!

Wowza, that's a huge ask - I've made a conscious effort to normalize LGBTQIA+ identities in my stories, so there's a lot of ground to cover here! There's also a minor issue in that most of the current stories are set in 2012, which is quite a different landscape in regards to the acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community compared to nowadays.

With that in mind, I'll try to go for the "ideal" celebration (and I'll throw in the characters' gender identities and sexual preferences, since I've already got those in my ongoing character database). Obviously, this only applies to the characters as portrayed in the Kryptonverse!

(This is a long one, so I'll add a "read more" thingy for the sake of those who aren't interested.)

- I think Luz would take Pride Month as an opportunity to more overtly explore her gender noncomformity; much like was showcased in the Grom episode, she might try on different outfit combinations, different pronouns - whatever makes her feel closer to her ideal self. I think her stint in the Boiling Isles would only make it that much clearer how truly silly it is for other people to try and dictate what she should look or behave like. Luz currently identifies as a bisexual, cisgender woman, but she has found comfort in identifying as nonbinary in the past, and there's really no telling how she might feel in the future.

- Kryptonian society had a great many issues, but a resistance towards gender variance and non-heterosexual preferences wasn't one of them - as long as you followed the strict life path set up for you by the Empire, of course. Kara is still confused about the human attitudes towards this subject, and angry that they affected Alex and Lena negatively in their youth. I think she'd celebrate Pride Month by pushing the Avengers to champion causes that protect the LGBTQIA+ community - not that they need much convincing. Think parades, lobbying for legislation, impassioned speeches, and million-dollar donations to worthy charities - whatever it takes to make sure people know where their heroes stand on this issue. Kara is a pansexual cisgender woman, Alex and Lena are lesbian cisgender women, Tony is a pansexual cisgender man, Steve is a (closeted) bisexual cisgender man, Natasha is an aromantic, bisexual, cisgender woman, Clint is a biromantic, heterosexual, cisgender man, and Rhodey and Bruce are both heterosexual, cisgender men (the Hulk himself is pansexual though).

- Not that Ben was against it before, of course, but I think gaining the ability to swap bodies (and genders, depending on the transformation) at will would give him a much greater appreciation for people who suffer from dysmorphia or otherwise don't gel with the body they were born with. I think he'd champion trans causes specifically during Pride Month - much to the anger of his parents, both conservative politicians. Ben is a bisexual, cisgender man, Julie is a bisexual, cisgender woman, Kevin is a heterosexual, cisgender man, and Gwen is a (currently questioning) bisexual, cisgender woman.

- It's kind of a spoiler to talk at length about Chloé's relationship with her own preferences. Suffice it to say, she would be very much opposed to Pride celebrations initially, but may or may not radically change her attitude as her journey goes on. Chloé is a lesbian, cisgender woman. Adrien is a bisexual, cisgender man (with GNC tendencies as he grows up), and Marinette is a bisexual, cisgender woman.

- Nico obviously didn't grow up in an environment conducive to the acceptance of his being gay. I think there's still a lot of internal self-loathing there, even as his boyfriend and his friends have greatly helped to coax him away from it, and that might manifest as his reluctance to participate in Pride celebrations. I think once he's convinced to attend a Pride parade once, though, it would make a world of difference going forward! Nico is a gay, cisgender man.

- Ellie has never given much thought to her own identity or preferences. She's felt attracted to all kinds of people, but never enough to want to act on it. It's possible that she's aro/ace, or somewhere on that spectrum, but even that feels like an ill-fitting piece of clothing. She is fiercely protective of Danny, though; poking fun or attacking him for being trans is a surefire way to make her go all out against you. She'll happily celebrate Pride with Danny and friends, too. Ellie doesn't currently subscribe to any romantic or sexual preference, but does identify as a cisgender woman. Valerie is a bisexual, cisgender woman. Danny is a heterosexual, transgender man.

- Pidge used to comfortably identify as a straight, cis woman, but her stint as Pidge Gunderson and the subsequent massive expansion of her knowledge of gender identities and sexual preferences due to her travels as a Paladin of Voltron have let her more solidly (ironically) identify as genderfluid and pansexual. She'd have a blast teaching Allura and Coran all about Earth Pride celebrations, and I'm sure she's eager to teach the people of Earth just how little they know about what's out there. Pidge is a genderfluid, pansexual individual (identified as female during Close Encounters, but don't let that fool you!).

- Saiyans have a weird relationship with gender and sexual preference. The average Saiyan is mostly free to do and be whatever the f*ck they want in this regard, but there is definitely a culture of male superiority, and a stigma towards trans Saiyan men, specifically - it's seen by traditionalists as "women trying to rise above their station", much in the same way as marrying between Saiyan classes is scorned. Caulifla and Kale don't have that kind of baggage, though, growing up on Xandar - their dithering about being with each other is just your classic awkward teenage romance, nothing to do with their both being women. Caulifla and Kale both identify as lesbian, cisgender women.

- Dipper may be a straight man, but he's the best damned ally you could hope for - fiercely protective of his pansexual twin and bisexual girlfriend. He's got every opposing argument memorized, and a counterargument ready to go - you do not want to debate him, and he will track your ass down if he catches you trolling/hating online. Mabel becomes even more of a living vortex of glitter and gloss during Pride - sweeping away the more muted Tulip, who'll happily settle for a little bisexual flag pin or sticker on her computer. Hard not to find Mabel's enthusiasm infectious, though! Dipper is a heterosexual, cisgender man, Mabel is a pansexual, cisgender woman, and Tulip is a bisexual, cisgender woman.
