Obi-Wan Kenobi: You need to kill Darth Vader! The very fate of the galaxy depends on it! He is pure evil. The source of all that is wrong in universe. Every bad thing that has ever happened ever is his fault - like on a personal level.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: You want me to kill him? Me? The master swordsman? The battle-hardened general? Arguably one of the greatest Jedi of all time? Oh no, I couldn’t possibly!
Obi-Wan Kenobi: No you don’t understand - I love him. Mind your fucking business.

Sparse thoughts from reading the AOTC screenplay.
So, one more thing I noticed popping up throughout the Attack of the Clones script drafted in 07/04/2000 (downloadable here). Again, note that this wasn't the final version of the script.
The theme of "Duty" in Episode II
We see it throughout the whole story. We obviously see it in the thematic "love or duty" conflict that's at the heart of Anakin and Padmé's romance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Padmé has her responsibilities as a Senator, Anakin has his commitments to the Jedi Order and his duty to the mission. For them to try to be together and still try to fulfill their respective duties... it's bound to fail.
As Lucas puts it:
"[The Clone War lineup scene] is contrasted with the idyllic situation on Naboo, where Anakin and Padmé are getting married… in what will be a doomed relationship… which they have already stated earlier on is not gonna work. But they do love each other. They're truly in love with each other. It's the issue of true love over duty. It's really the Romeo and Juliet aspect of it, of a doomed relationship, in more ways than one really. She married the wrong guy. This marriage will end up with the birth of their children, which go on into the next trilogy." - Attack of the Clones, Commentary Track 2, 2002
But then there's this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoda promises the Jedi will do their duty. A duty dictated by the Senate.
The subtext in this whole scene is basically the Jedi telling Palpatine and the Senate that, if asked, they will fight because they're duty-bound to do so... but they shouldn't. They don't have the numbers, the intention or the experience to fight a war, so the Senate should seriously consider a diplomatic solution.
Like, "we will die for you if you ask us... but please don't just throw our lives away."
And in this earlier version of the script, Palpatine sends the Jedi to Geonosis before he even has the emergency powers, during Scene 114 on Page 81.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Jedi reluctantly acquiesce (again, it's their duty).
Mace is like "maybe let's wait, we don't know for sure that the Trade Federation is conspiring with the Separatists" but Palpatine and the others shut that shit down.
Takeaway #1:
You know who does argue in the Jedi's stead? Bail Organa. Like, this guy's an ally of the Jedi from day one.
Takeaway #2:
Even by Page 81 out of 113 total pages, Windu is still holding out hope that this is all some big misunderstanding. There's no way a former Jedi like Dooku, who was wise, powerful and overall exemplar, could've fallen so low, right?
Like, the Jedi don't just have a duty towards the Republic... they have one to serve the Force. You can quit the first, but not the second. And for him to conspire with the Trade Federation and prepare an inter-galactic civil war... that's just unthinkable.
Which leads me to this other thing:
Dooku's betrayal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Scene 40, we read that in the history of the whole Jedi Order (1,000 generations!) that only TWENTY JEDI left the Order.
74 pages later, in Scene 155, we read that there's about twenty Jedi left in the Geonosis Arena... out of 200!
There were 10 times more Jedi who died on Geonosis on Dooku's orders, than there were Jedi who just straight-up left the Order in 25,000 years.
Dooku's betrayal hits the Jedi hard.
(The concept of Lost Twenty was later retconned so that it designated the twenty Jedi *Masters who left, fyi).
"Ms. Amidala has presented Threepio with clothes!"
Final fun fact! In this draft, C-3PO is "naked" like he was in The Phantom Menace. George played with the idea that Padmé was the one who installs the bronze plates on C-3PO!
Tumblr media
(if there's a * in the margins on the right, btw, it means that's where a correction was done)
And Threepio hugs her!
And Owen calls Shmi "Mom"! My heart...!
This was probably removed later on because it leads directly to Anakin arriving with Shmi's dead body in tow, and it would've been too much of an emotional flip-flop, for lack of a better term ^^'
Either that or putting the animatronic naked C-3PO would've hurt the budget.
UPDATE: At Star Wars Celebration 2022, Anthony Daniels spoke about this change! They actually shot everything with Anthony Daniels playing incomplete Threepio (instead of using an animatronic like in TPM, it was actually him playing it) and then George changed his mind and they reshot all the parts with him in the bronze plating. Talk about hurting the budget ^^'

What do you think of ObI Wan's forgiving Maul in rebels? To me- I dunno, it just seems too easy and a little inconsistent. I get that what Vader did was worse and his betrayal in some ways more personal, but he really struggled to forgive Anakin, also his identifying with Maul as a victim since childhood makes no sense, as he should've known Anakin was groomed by Palpatine from childhood, but he didn't even try to find out what caused his fall.
Before I say anything else, please keep in mind that I never watched Rebels (I only watched a couple of scenes/episodes) so I might not have all the details.
Now, that being said, I don’t think Obi-wan ‘forgave’ Maul.
Obi-wan’s ‘kindness’ when killing Maul wasn’t the result of any personal bond between them. it was the expected behavior of any wise Jedi: never start a fight and don’t be cruel. Those are basic Jedi precepts.
If I remember correctly, Obi-wan only ignited his blade after Maul realized he was protecting someone important (Luke) so his actions were motivated by his committed to the greater good (the galaxy and Luke), not his personal feelings towards Maul.
Besides, that was nothing to forgive because Obi-wan wouldn’t keep any (personal) ill feeling towards Maul – beyond him being a threat to the galaxy – because that’s not the Jedi way. Obi-wan, on paper, doesn’t hold grudges. He mourns Satine but he doesn’t hate Maul for killing her.
I think people are mistaking Obi-wan with Anakin, especially Obi-wan’s relationship with Anakin. Now that was a personal relationship that turned violent and bitter because of it. Unlike Maul, Obi-wan couldn’t ‘let go’ of Anakin, whom he loved.
If that final duel had been personal to Obi-wan, it would have gone very differently. It’s the difference between Obi-wan vs Maul in TPM and Obi-wan vs Maul in Rebels. One is fulled by personal, emotional responses. The one isn’t.
As for Obi-wan idifitying Maul was a victim, I don’t know where that comes from. Obi-wan knew nothing about Maul’s past and what he endured growing up. and even if he had, I don’t see that making much of a difference. Obi-wan KNEW Anakin was manipulated by Palpatine and it had no influence on his behavior towards Anakin. we have to keep in mind that until Vader’s redemption, the Jedi believed the dark side was a one way street. Once you took that path you’re lost, regardless of who you *used* to be.
Why had he turned to the dark side? When did it happen? The Anakin he knew and loved couldn't have done it. Something had twisted in him, and Palpatine had exploited it somehow. Obi-Wan knew it wouldn't change anything to know, but he couldn't help going over the same events, again and again. The chances he'd missed, the things he'd seen, the things he hadn't. [Jude Watson – The Last One Standing]
That was where Obi-Wan kept returning. That vision of hatred. Because no matter how Palpatine had corrupted Anakin, no matter how the dark side had taken him over, no matter what decisions he'd made in his heat and his fury, he was Obi-Wan's apprentice and he ended by hating his Master. And that was a Master's failing. [Jude Watson – The Last One Standing]
Obi-Wan said, “I should have let them shoot me …”
“What?”
“No. That was already too late—it was already too late at Geonosis. The Zabrak, on Naboo—I should have died there … before I ever brought him here—”
“Stop this, you will!” Yoda gave him a stick-jab in the ribs sharp enough to straighten him up. “Make a Jedi fall, one cannot; beyond even Lord Sidious, this is. Chose this, Skywalker did.”
Obi-Wan lowered his head. “And I’m afraid I might know why.”
“Why? Why matters not. There is no why. There is only a Lord of the Sith, and his apprentice. Two Sith.” Yoda leaned close. “And two Jedi.” [Matthew Stover. Revenge of the Sith]
Obi-wan was completely aware of Anakin’s traumatic past and further manipulation by Palpatine and yet there was little sympathy for him once he became Vader. Now, why would he show such sympathy for someone he knew very little about? For someone who, unlike Anakin, he only knew as a Sith? It doesn’t make sense, imo
The man he faced was everything Obi-Wan had devoted his life to destroying: Murderer. Traitor. Fallen Jedi. Lord of the Sith. And here, and now, despite it all … Obi-Wan still loved him.[Matthew Stover. Revenge of the Sith]
Obi-wan knew Anakin, LOVED him and still, Anakin’s tragic past made very little difference when it came to Obi-wan’s reaction to his most evil and cruel actions. that’s why I don’t see him going all kind and soft on Maul, whom he knew very little of beyond his ability to destroy innocents and commit crimes.
I’ve talked about this before but the gist is Jedi don’t forgive Sith, they kill them. that’s why the wanted Luke to kill his own father and tried their best to convince him that there was not good left in Vader. It’s not because they were evil, manipulative pricks who wanted Anakin dead. It’s because the truly didn’t believe that it was possible for a Sith to redeem themselves. So for Obi-wan to go all ‘aww poor Maul’ would be out of character, borderline on plot hole.
It’s not like Obi-wan wanted Maul to suffer or anything like that. Clearly, that was not the case at all. But it’s a pretty big leap from ‘I don’t want my enemy to suffer’ to ‘I totally understand why he’s like that and forgive him for it’.
I mean, if Obi-wan didn’t let Maul suffer because he understood his past how does one explain Mustafar and Anakin’s immolation?

Rey’s lack of motivation and stake in the Sequel Trilogy
I have a question to ask you. What are Rey’s motivations? What are her wants and goals and why is she even drawn to the conflict between The First Order and The Resistance?
Rey’s motivations in the Sequels.
Rey wants to find her parents.
Wants to bring back Luke Skywalker
Rey wants to find her place
Wants Ben to return to the light
Has no real motivation to be on either side of the conflict, but chooses The Resistance anyway
Says she wants to kill Palpatine in cold blood, was close to giving in
Now she chose to fuck off to Tatooine and we see very little in her motivation to do....ANYTHING
Let’s compare Anakin and Luke’s motivations.
What are Anakin's motivations?
Wants to leave a life of slavery and come back and free his mother
Wants to become a Jedi and become a hero
Wants to protect Padme
Wants to save Obi-Wan
Wants to stop Dooku and end the war before it can begin
Wants to be a good master to Ahsoka
Wants to clear Ahsoka’s name
Wants to stop the war
Wants to save Padme and his children's lives at the cost of the Jedi and doing whatever it takes and becomes Darth Vader
What are Luke’s motivations?
Luke is a farm boy who dreams of leaving his mundane life.
Luke discovers that his father -unlike what his uncle told him, was a heroic Jedi Knight
Luke, is reluctant and refuses the ‘call to adventure’, but after the Empire murders his Aunt and Uncle, he decides to Join Obi-Wan on the quest.
Save the Princess
Luke is angered by Obi-Wan’s death at the hands of Darth Vader, and seeks retribution.
Destroy the Death Star and save the Rebellion
To be trained by Yoda
Save Han and Leia
Luke discovers his father, the heroic Jedi, is none other than Darth Vader. After years of training, he sets out to redeem his father and turn him back to the light.
After the redemption of his father and fall of the Empire, Luke goes on a journey to restore The Jedi Order
Compare Rey and Luke’s journeys in ANH and TFA. Rey wanders around and stuff is handed to her. Luke takes initiative and works for what he has. Let's compare ANH with TFA
Luke screws up on watching R2, then chooses to chase him down. He makes another mistake by spying on the Tusken Raiders instead of getting the hell out of dodge. This leads to him being knocked out, and rescued by Ben Kenobi.
Luke initiates the meeting with Ben Kenobi, and it happens because of his early bad decisions.
His aunt & uncle are killed, but thanks to his screw-up with R2 & the raiders, he and the droids are spared.
He chooses to follow Kenobi to Alderaan instead of staying on Tattooine.
He chooses to accept Kenobi's instruction in the ways of the Force, even though most people think it's a myth and a joke. Even though he's bad at it and doesn't seem to get any results at first.
He makes the decision that they're going to rescue Leia, potentially dooming their escape from the Death Star. This sets off a chain of events that leads to Kenobi's death.
Then he chooses to help fight the Death Star, even though he's not a member of the rebellion. He was offered a job with Han, and he could have ensured his safety by leaving with them. Instead he chose certain death.
Finally, he chooses to trust a literal voice in his head instead of the targeting computer.
Let's contrast that with Rey.
BB-8 runs into her. She tries to send him away, but relents and lets him follow her home.
She chooses not to sell him for food.
Finn wanders into camp on his own initiative.
The camp is attacked because BB-8 is there. The camp would have been attacked no matter what Rey did. The other scavenger was, I'm pretty sure, from the same camp. And if she'd sold him, BB-8 would also have still been in the camp.
She is forced to take the Millennium Falcon when the ship she wanted to use was blown up.
She chooses to go with Finn and bring BB-8 to the Rebellion Resistance.
She stumbles upon Luke's lightsaber, and runs away from it.
She accidentally runs into Kylo Ren while hiding in the forest.
He chooses to kidnap her because he senses something special about her.
After her first exposure to the Force, she learns how to use some of it, successfully, and escapes from Ren. And to her credit, escaping and trying the Force out is a choice she made, rather than something that passively happened to her.
Then she, um, is standing there when Han is killed.
She chooses to fight Kylo Ren, and beats him in her first lightsaber battle after closing her eyes and thinking about the Force.
She sort of chooses to go summon Luke back to civilization - I say sort of because it's not clear why she was picked to go over, say, Leia.
Luke makes mistakes, and he is an active participant in his story. Rey is just kind of there, most of the time. She doesn't make mistakes, but she doesn't really do much else.
Rey has no personal stake in this war or motivations and she’s supposed to be the main protagonist.
Rey has never left Jakku before TFA and she tells Han that ”she never knew so much green existed” when they go to Maz’s castle.
In other words Rey must have had very limited knowledge of the world outside of Jakku and all she has heard from it are stories.
Rey who barely knows anything about the rest of the galaxy, to the point that she didn’t even know that forests existed what exactly is her personal stake in the current galactic conflict?
In TFA we saw The New Republic’s capital systems blown up by Starkiller Base and we never saw a reaction from Rey. We do see Finn and Han’s reactions. Also worth noting about Rey is that if she was unconscious throughout her involuntary travel to the Starkiller Base she was never actually aware of the Starkiller Base until just before Han, Finn and Chewie started planting the explosions in order to sabotage it.
Luke, while he had no personal attachments to Aldeeran did actually get to see the horrible aftermaths of it’s destruction.
But Rey was barely affected by the destruction of the Capital systems. Most characters were not as affected as they should have been in my opinion but we didn’t even get to see her have an emotional reaction to it.
This was probably the greatest genocide in Star Wars history and our main heroine is unaffected by it? Finn has a reaction to it and he’s supposedly NOT the main protagonist?
Rey really has no reason to care about the state of the galaxy. She only seems to care if people she knows are in danger.
The fact that she is supposed to be our main hero of this trilogy when she has next to no personal stakes in the well-being of the rest of the galaxy feels wrong to me.
Finn actually has stakes in this conflict since the FO took his family and childhood away from him and Poe has stakes because he actually lives in the New Republic and doesn’t want it to be under FO’s rule. Yet neither Finn nor Poe are considered the main protagonist? But oh wait, I forgot we can’t have a black or Latino man be the leading protagonist in Star Wars
The more I think about it is Rey has no goals or agency as a protagonist. She’s just whatever the plot demands her to be. Rey doesn’t actively take the initiative and make decisions, and simply react to the world around her. There is never a reason given as to why she wants to be a Jedi. Sure, she’s heard the stories about them, but she doesn’t dream to be one like Anakin, and the writers are so obsessed over her parents that they never develop any other motivation besides that. She has to be strung along the story so she can take part in it, hence she is repeatedly chased and kidnapped throughout TFA to get her to the Resistance where she decides to find Luke because she has nowhere else to go. Part of the reason she doesn’t even train with Luke is because she has no reason to, as she’s just supposed to find him. Rey joins the fight simply in reaction to learning that Luke is responsible for Ben’s fall. She’s only ever a Jedi and a member of the Resistance out of necessity- she has no where left to go and has to fight in self defense- so they try hamfist in some motives that she needs to stop herself from becoming like Palpatine but there is no tension as it’s the final act. By the end of the trilogy it’s not even clear if the Jedi Order will return because Rey never seems to want to be one and we can only assume they will return for meta reasons- because the audience knows the ST is a copypasta of the OT.
What exactly was Rey’s motivation for getting involved in the Galactic conflict before TROS? Luke was told that his father was killed by Darth Vader and later his family gets murdered by the empire so he had personal stakes to get involved in the conflict.
Anakin was a Jedi and had lived in the Republic for ten years by the time of the Clone Wars begun so he had personal reasons to get involved in the conflict.
Rey meanwhile grew up so isolated of Jakku that she had no idea forests existed and she didn’t lose anything and the FO attacked her on Jakku. In fact she wanted to return to Jakku after she had dumped BB-8 with the Resistance. Her primary motivation in TFA was to reunite with her family but the movie never establish that her family’s absence was connected to the galactic conflict in any way.
That connection isn’t established until TROS so what was her motivation until than? The Death of Han? A guy she had known for two hours? Finn? A guy she also had maybe only knew for about two hours total by the time of their hug in TLJ? Also she seemed to have completely forgotten about Finn by the time she want on a quest to redeem the guy that has far as she should have known by that point was still in a coma with his spine permanently damaged because of Kylo.
Rey’s motivation seems to either be finding her family or her dealing with her existential crisis neither had much of a connection with the galactic conflict until TROS

🚨The Rise of Skywalker Detailed Review and Spoilers Ahead🚨
Tumblr media
George Lucas: “If the boy and girl walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand in the last scene, it adds 10 million to the box office”
The “fairytale” we got: A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a curse of pain and death in a family that just went on and on.  They were never able to break it and they all die, the end.
Well, you did it JJ, you little punk...you ruined 40 years of cinema. Kids are coming out of theatres crying, they can’t understand. I guess this was the “fun and hopeful ending” you were speaking of during the press tours.  Are you on crack or something, or just sadistic....why would you promote it like that!? Did you forget Star Wars at its core is a story of hope, light, a fairytale in space for children? They did it...they united Reylo’s and Fanboys through hate.
JJ you do realize tragical romances are only tragically romantic if there was romantic buildup? Romeo and Juliet married in secret, Anidala did as well and flirted in the fields. How was this supposed to be satisfying? A five-second beginning, middle, and end. How this went through multiple execs is beyond me.... I would have understood if Reylo was Rian’s creation. BUT JJ LITERALLY was the one who told Rian to go forth with it...he created Reylo so you can’t say the last Jedi derailed things on that front. JJ wasn’t brave enough for his own vision. This movie was like “the crimes of Grindlewald”, a lot of stuff happening that made me feel nothing.
Okay, first things first. The OG trilogy was necessary, the prequels were necessary to set up that Vader did not start off bad. What was necessary about the sequels? They just dismantled everything the Skywalker family worked for. Why did we have to see ALL of our favorite characters die? Was the aim that a villain can only be redeemed through death? How original. I’m convinced what they were planning for since force awakens was a journey from villain to hero...but instead we got this a 10min redemption resulting in death a la Vader. Why call Adam Driver’s character a “Disney Prince”?When did Happy endings become so controversial? We go to the movies to feel hope, to escape reality...George Lucas understood that. JJ’s trilogy is uninspired, bland and contributes nothing to the saga. JJ went as far as to recon his own “The Force Awakens”.It had the chance to define generations but no. Literal and utter garbage. Rian made some odd choices but he was bold, unafraid and had the vision. HE knew emotion was at the heart of Star Wars.
WHERE DID THE SKYWALKERS RISE? MORE LIKE RISE OF PALPATINE,  HE BLOODY WON
BUT my problem is not with the ending, it’s the bloody entire movie. This movie made me realize that it's not Reylo that I am a fan of, it was Ben, Leia, Han, Ani, Padme, and all those other characters. I’m upset because this movie is not my Star Wars: of family, love and above all else hope. This is just a 2.5-hour video game with no emotions. This trilogy was all angst with NO payoff.
Okay, you will never ever convince me Palpatine was planned the whole time. This whole movie was retcon for the Last Jedi that pissed off the fanboys. Lucas films did not have an outline for the three films and Rian derailed whatever they wanted to do....except they didn’t even tell him what they wanted! This should be a cautionary tale of why you need to plan. Kylo ain’t bad, Snoke is gone....well pull out Palpatine I guess. This whole film is JJ’s mad scrambling.  Alright, I will humor you, tell me how Palpatine came back when he fell down a shaft and exploded....not *boom boom because of force*. The force in this movie is not canon George Lucas force, it’s just an easy out whenever JJ wants one.
1. Opening Crawl: As soon as I saw this I knew all the leaks were true, I wanted to bolt from the theatre. When I saw them in August I laughed cause it was so ridiculous it couldn’t be true. How could Disney let a whole movie leak? The plot seemed like a bad fan-fiction. Actually, fanfics are way more true to lore. Anyway, so Palpatine “announces” that he’s back. Is this the shrewd Chancellor Palpatine we know? Certainly, not...why in the world would he announce it rather than keep on the DL and just attack. Yo Palps ain’t this dumb why would you let them (the resistance) prepare?? Because of plot...well okay.
2. Did Last Jedi even happen:  this film is the sequel to the force awakens, like TLJ never happened...except it’s acting like there was some movie in between that JJ made. Okay, so why is Kylo trying to run Rey over with his tie fighter...he doesn’t really want to kill her. It’s just meaningless action shots.  And don’t get me started on exposition, the dialogue: “hey look its the Knights of Ren”. Except they do nothing. Cool cool.  Kylo’s character goes back to Force awakens era like no development had occurred...except he’s not even there he’s just messing around not even being a real villain.  JJ’s specialty is set-up and he does this beautifully....but he can not wrap up and follow through.
3. Rose Tico: yup last Jedi never happened, she has nothing to do. She and Finn are irrelevant. Finn has reverted to being obsessed with Rey. Cool Cool.  I honestly feel so bad for the lovely Kelly Marie Tran. How did you relegate a relatively big character into the sidelines?? Why introduce two new characters this late. Rose could have filmed in for them...but alas we must snub Rian at every turn because that’s just how petty JJ Abrams is. ( don’t get me wrong Jannah was cool)
4. The Rise Of Poe Dameron: Finn has been relegated to a side character who does nothing and just yells “REY!”. It was a great setup, a stormtrooper who was force sensitive but doesn’t want his life to be fighting for nothing. You could have explored trauma, the discovery of the light but nope nada. Tell me the point of his character journey. So flat and static. And with Jannah and the ex stormtroopers they could have gone with the arc of these lost, sad kids coming together to find family.
5. Leia:  Okay you’re telling me our Princess would give up on her son before he was born, just throw away her lightsaber and accept Ben’s fate? Cool alright. And she knew about Rey Palpatine and didn’t say anything...my princess would never.
6. Mary Sue Rey: Ahh Rey this girl feels no emotion in this movie...just like the audience. Sure she’s trained but she can just do stuff with the “force” that even Jedi masters can’t. Stopping a whole starship, something even Yoda could barely do...yup she can do it. Beat Kylo all the time except one, yup she can. Manipulate the force in mind-boggling ways, heal people...sure Luke couldn’t but Rey certainly can.  Cause she is the chosen one...hell even Ani wasn’t this talented and he had years of training. Poe and Finn have a genuine connection, Rey just seems disjointed (totally understandable why)...but if so the ending is even worse. She doesn’t even find peace with her friends. She’s not realistic and human like Luke and Leia were.
Force sensitivity in the galaxy:  What a perfect setup, the boy with the broom at the end of TLJ that was force sensitive. The message is that the power to use the force was spreading through the galaxy. No longer confined to the elite. People were hearing of Luke’s battle of Crate and rising.
7. Kylo/Ben: I still maintain that he, other than Ani was the most nuanced character in the whole saga. His arc from Force Awakens to Last Jedi had progressed. How great that even someone from the legendary line of skywalker and solo could fall to the dark again. He wasn’t flat, he was a tortured boy that was conflicted since the first movie. How great would it have been to see him as a conflicted supreme leader, which was set up in TLJ. But *gasps* a plot of his very own, no can do, this is the nature of JJ’s crush on Rey and Daisy.
Disney released comics that made us sympathize with him, to see that all along he was manipulated by Snoke, and Palpatine the voices in his head. Neglected by those who were supposed to love him. Adam Driver was cast perfectly, he had almost no lines that weren’t related to Rey’s charcater arc. If he were a woman I’m sure everyone would be offended. That single line’s delivery “Dad-”
Come on Poe had more lines than him, and Driver according to JJ was half of the protagonist. He was pitched an arc opposite that of Darth Vader that’s why he signed. Man JJ really did do everyone dirty.
8. Ben had no lines while redeemed other than “ow”...I am so sorry ADAM that this nasty ass JJ did this to you...this part was 100% improv by Adam, I am willing to bet my life on it. You know why “ow” was brilliant? Cause it meant he felt pain and emotion, he was no longer hiding behind the hardness of Kylo REN. Adam’s performance as Ben left me speechless, he was convincing as Kylo, intimidating...but as BEN he shines in the way only Solo’s can. The way his eyes become determined once he accepts he must give his life, and he does so happily for the love of his life. His soulmate. Star Wars and JJ never deserved the talent that is Adam Driver.
9. They are supposed to be equals in the force yet they missed the opportunity to fight Snoke together. Tell me how they are equals. He existed only to further Rey’s plotline.
Oh and the other Jedi including Anakin whisper and help Rey...when his own grandson has been asking for help in distress for like 30years. Nice real nice.
10. Finally Reylo:  it felt unearned cause there was no buildup, JJ just threw it in for kicks forgetting all the P&P parallels he was shooting for. An afterthought. Driver and Ridley’s acting saved the day, they had no lines.  Adam Driver is truly one of the finest actors. You could see the difference between Ben and Kylo in his subtle gestures...the sass was pure Han Solo.
11. And then the death: I wouldn’t even say we won, but at what cost. We won in no way. Had he died fighting I would have understood, but this death was so unnecessary and put in just for the fanboys. Let me say again I would have been okay with death had it been justified.  How is this any different than Vader x Luke. JJ can only copy not create. How crazy that you can just bring people back from the dead...Anakin is here like, am I joke to you? I could have brought Padme back say what???? What was the point of his whole fall to the dark. The force is infinite, that’s the whole point...once you know how to use it you can’t run out of it like juice. Oh, and Ben did not become one with Rey but rather the Force according to the Disney website. So why pray tell did he not appear as a force ghost? I’m convinced JJ was on crack.
12. No Mourning BEN no acknowledgment:  5 seconds! And then she moves on from losing her soulmate, half of her soul. She loses it over Chewie but nothing, no emotion not even a second over her other half. Seriously? No one ever knows Ben came back...nada. JJ set up Reylo, time and time again he has said that he crafted the story around the romance. He was left scrambling after Last Jedi and this was a last-ditch shock ending. No Reylo theme song, no across the stars
13. Last Jedi told us you don’t have to come from a powerful family to be important. THE WHOLE thing was that you could be force-sensitive and be a nobody. Nobodies can become somebody. A Hero is not born but made. The force lives in all beings, not just powerful families. It inspired me, what a great message to young guys and gals. Kylo’s line, “you come from nothing, you are nothing...you have no place in this story” finally turns out true. You have to come from something to have a part in the Star Wars story. And Rey had darkness inside her cause she was human. Because none of us are pure, we are shades of grey. But no, it’s cause darkness only runs in families. In the Last Jedi when she wants to see her family all she sees is herself and a shadow (Ben) who joins with her. Please do explain this JJ. And if this granddaughter thing was set up I would have had no problem...but they pulled it from their asses. You can have nothing but mean something. But no pander to the fanboys. In the end, a Palpatine lived and all the skywalkers ended....and we are supposed to have hope. Palpatine really did win.
14. Rey’s biggest fear was ending up in the desert alone, we were told “the belonging she seeks is ahead not behind” and “there’s someone who could still come back”. They mentioned she felt just as alone with the resistance. Only the other half of her soul understood her. This is truly tragic and sad...I am so heartbroken for her. And don’t tell me she isn’t there to stay...the soundtrack is called “a new home”. Enjoy the rest of your days being exactly where you started Rey....but hey at least you got a droid boo. I’m convinced this is not the balance JJ envisioned in the first movie. At one point in TFA Rey looks up sees an old woman alone, scavenging in the desert. This rattles her to the core and it starts her journey of wanting a better, different life. I am so sorry Rey. Okay so you may say she has the resistance and her friends...but let’s consult the last Jedi. In the end when everyone is on the ship...Rey is surrounded by friends yet looks more alone than ever. No one but Ben, maybe Luke, Leia, and Han understood her pull to the dark.
How sad that these two hopeless souls who had never known a moment of belonging and true love, found it for all but a few seconds.
I will quote: “preventing female characters with strong, compelling narratives from experiencing love, intimacy, and affection is just as regressive as reducing them down to sexual accessories. Assumes that women must choose between a romantic interest and depth of character”
Men really can not write good female characters, can they? A woman really can’t be a badass and end up with the love of her life
15. The Skywalker’s and Redemption: How truly truly sad that Han and Leia gave their life for their son who also died at a young age. ALL the Skywalkers and Solo’s have a tragic end. This is not what George Lucas wanted. What a tragic way to end this saga...they weren't able to break the curse. AND to all those troubled kids out there that lashed out and made terrible mistakes in their youth....doesn’t matter what you do dying is the only way out. You could have exiled him, made him pay in other ways. Nothing can be done to make up for your sins but death, no amount of good means that you can come home. To the young boys that get wrapped up in terror organizations, sorry the only way you can be redeemed is death...don’t bother changing and coming back. They could have exiled him, had him start an academy with Rey for Jedi kids. He could have spent the rest of his days redeeming himself. Why tell us he was literally preyed upon, haunted, and manipulated as a child. Even in a fantasy world, a victim of mental illness and abuse can not catch a break. Ben as a child could not fall asleep due to the demon-like voices in his mind. Everyone abandoned him in his time of need. Ben never desired power like Anakin, he went over to the dark because “the voice” of his grandfather promised belonging. I am shocked that this is the message Disney sends us. Oh and yeah you can totally take on the Skywalker name for kicks...the disrespect I swear
16. The worst bit is that I am 90% sure there was another ending that was scrapped.  There was a promo shot of Jannah in a field, soft lighting, lush planet. It was exactly like P&P. Daisy Ridley said the lasts scene was known to only Her, Jannah on that panel (Driver was away). Convinced Jannah was looking at Rey and Ben starting a new life away from the desert which she and Luke hate so much. Hence the production of “A New Home” soundtrack. Hence why the “Farewell” song played behind Reylo kiss was hopeful. Why Luke’s soundtrack when he became part of the force was not triumphant. Why the death scene was sudden and cut weird and no sorrow from Rey. CAUSE THEY SCRAPPED THE ORIGINAL ENDING LAST MINUTE.  Everyone knows JJ was still editing one month before. The concept art which was supposed to be released this month has been pushed to March. Why you ask? They need to remove the pages with a happy ending. He just didn’t have the guts, pandered to everyone and yet no one. He was successful in creating a beautifully filmed action-filled movie with none of the heart of Star Wars.
And then she goes and buries Anakin’s saber on freaking TATOOINE. He HATES Sand and Luke wanted to get away from there as soon as possible. Of course, a Palpatine would torture them that way. But nostalgia is the cash cow so. JJ can only generate nostalgia, not create original stories. IF he had any creativity she would have buried it at Padme’s grave.
Tumblr media
The fanboys say “leave the romance for the romance movies”....have you seen the original trilogy or the prequels? Star Wars has always had hope and romance entwined with it.
SO AFTER 40 YEARS...PALPATINE WINS...HIS BLOODLINE LIVES ON
...and people thought the prequels were bad
JJ you also said that your goal was for people to come out of the movie feeling more hopeful and happy then they went in...yet here I am. My roommate literally had to console me and buy me ice cream. I am just so numb. I am sure the casual fan will enjoy this, as seen from the rotten tomatoes ratings. I think the critics were too generous with this one,
Star Wars is very simple at its core, Good vs Bad and Dark vs Light. The kids are expected to understand that a Palpatine being the only one who lives is hopeful? That is the conclusion of three generations of Skywalker sacrifice...
This is how the Skywalkers are remembered...In Tragedy and Curse??

beach please
pairing: rex / reader / cody
word count: 6166
summary: once the war ended, you retreated to scarif for much-needed time to recenter yourself. rex and cody worry when you don’t answer your comms for days and leave coruscant to find you, fearing the worst. turns out you’ve just been drinking and partying, now sporting two new tattoos.
a/n: the self-created duke of scarif is jimmy buffett & i was inspired by his song “margaritaville” & “beach please” by kevin fowler.
canon changes: everyone listened to fives abt the chips & palps was discovered to be a sith lord. the clones were given human rights, a generously low locked-in rent if they lived on coruscant, and as much back pay as the republic could afford (not much but better than nothing).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“master y/l/n, there’s still so much to be done-”
“and you can have someone else do it. you must not be capable of recognizing the importance of reevaluating the way we interpret the code, or else this conversation wouldn’t be occurring.”
obi-wan blanched at the barely tamed fury radiating from your force signature. this was the second time in less than a year that he felt something so raging from your force signature, the time before this meeting being the aftermath of umbara. before the nightmare that was the siege on the shadow planet, it had been decades since you were angry enough about something to raise your voice to the council. it took a very great transgression to ignite your anger into something scathing and this meeting was doing exactly that.
the council was meeting to discuss the senate’s plans to have the jedi spearhead efforts to repair the galaxy and quell the revolts in areas that still wanted to continue the war. palpatine was manipulating both sides and if it weren’t for fives and kix, the republic would have been none the wiser when chancellor palpatine executed the order to have the clones murder their jedi.
“how are we going to guide the galaxy through the changing times if we’re unable to reevaluate our own beliefs and how the war impacted them? so many of our padawans were raised in this war, far different than how they should have been brought up.” your mind drifted to ahsoka and late-night conversations spent trying to make sense of the reality of war and how she’d been nothing but a soldier since she left the temple at fourteen. “the senate is not our responsibility nor our lead authority. we were their pawns once and despite seeing the consequences on geonosis, we let ourselves get wrapped in politics. think of what we lost because of it.”
eeth koth was deeply disturbed by your entire demeanor as well as the words spilling from your lips. if there was ever a jedi that made you want to leave the order, he’d be it. douchebag. “our duty is to the galaxy, to maintain peace! you can’t expect us to sit back and do nothing when people are struggling!”
obi-wan shared your sentiment but strived for more unity than polarization within the meeting. “but aren’t we struggling just as much as the rest of the galaxy? time must be allotted for us to heal the wounds of war before we’ll be able to successfully help others that are suffering, if that’s what’s agreed upon.” a few jedi nodded their agreement, masters plo and gallia among them. shaak looks close to being convinced but seems to still be hesitant to comment on her opinion.
“in order to help the galaxy, we must help ourselves. our emotions must be looked into with more than just the intent to throw them away at a moment’s notice. knowing why we feel the things we do can help us with far more than just our connection to the force.”
this was an idea that obi-wan has spent many years struggling with but it took the end of the war to guide him into believing that emotions aren’t the enemy, it’s how they’re utilized that counts. he explained this concept to his fellow council members and it was a sentiment you agreed with immensely.
saese scoffs at the mere idea of doing more with emotions besides dispelling them into the force. “that sounds a lot like allowing your emotions to cloud your judgement, master kenobi, something your lineage is quite popular for-” oh he crossed the line. saese was not about to talk shit about your creche mate and closest friend or his lineage and get away with it.
“no need to pardon my language, master, but it sounds a lot like you’re allowing your own emotional shortcomings and the bantha fodder you call intelligence to cloud your judgement.”
even mace was stunned at the verbal jab that came from your seat. kit had been mid-drink and it took him several seconds to recover from the way he choked on his water. you were normally calm and collected, a voice of reason amid the chaos. this time, however, you were at your limit. this was your cue to leave.
mace spoke up as you neared the door. “y/l/n, where do you think you’re going?”
“i’m going to heal and allow myself to enjoy the peace we gave nearly everything to obtain. if you want to join me, feel free to let me know.”
your robes billowed out behind you as the council meeting dissolved into chaos. you were convinced that if your seat was close enough to master yoda’s that you’d be sporting a few new gimer stick bruises. thank the force for the little things.
later that evening, you boarded your personal ship and set the coordinates for scarif. that was the perfect place to go as a jedi that didn’t want to be found by anyone that they didn’t fully trust. who would think to find a monk on a planet filled with booze, sex, and other carnal pleasures? a few comms were sent telling the recipients that you were going on vacation and to call if you were needed, giving them a new private commlink and vague hints at where you’d be.
scarif, here i come.
Tumblr media
“she hasn’t commed us in nearly a week! what reason is there to not worry?”
“rex, she would have called us if there was something wrong.”
“you know as well as i do that there are still radical seppies trying to keep the war going. the kidnapping of a jedi would surely be cause to fight!”
cody sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. he conceded that you ignoring their comms was highly unusual, yes, but you weren’t the type to throw yourself heedlessly into danger like some of the other jetti they knew (cough cough, skywalker and kenobi). “no one in their right mind is going to think to look for a jedi on scarif, the place is too carefree and without a permanent stuck up its shebs.”
rex knew there was a valid point to the statement. he vaguely recollects general kenobi’s mild yet humorous complaints about the “uncivilized, booze-blooded” inhabitants of the beach planet. general skywalker’s only problem with scarif, it seems, was the fact there was sand nearly everywhere, the drunks and constant parties posing no issue to the younger jedi. the reason for his disdain of sand was never expanded upon.
“i’m still going to look for her, feel free to come with.” they were free men who had no one to report to, no one telling them where they could go or when to eat and sleep, so of course rex was going to look for you. with this newfound freedom cody and rex moved into a middle-level apartment together, nothing too fancy but quite a contrast to their former living spaces under the gar.
rex chose to join the police force on coruscant and quickly climbed the ranks, excelling in every task thrown at him. he was a force to be reckoned with, crime rates dropping rapidly within his first month.
cody hasn’t made a new career choice yet, the commander still trying to find his own path. he had tried his hand on the police force but he quickly realized it wasn’t his cup of tea and left rex to it. he’s helping with groceries and other living costs with his back pay despite rex’s protests for him to put it to better use (what better use is there for credits than helping you survive day to day? that’s what they’re made for).
they were given a ship by general skywalker -anakin, rex’s mind supplied; he had corrected them many times about not using the rank- that the man had modified himself because he “wouldn’t want any friends of mine flying around the galaxy in a piece of junk.” apparently any sort of ship/speeder/droid/anything not built and/or modified by the man was inferior in nearly every imaginable way. it was a kind and meaningful gesture that anakin was willing to go to such lengths to protect them, no matter how unnecessary. the war was over after all, there was no need to have blaster attachments on their civilian speeder.
“like i’m gonna leave you to your own devices, di’kut. of course i’m going with.”
“you better hurry and pack, i’m planning on leaving no later than 1800.”
Tumblr media
sitting in the reclined beach chair with two margaritas, you haven’t enjoyed yourself this much in a long time. the togrutan brother and sister you met soon after your arrival had become dear friends in your two months on scarif, the three of you becoming a trio commonly seen hitting the best parties all over the planet. miek wasn’t as much of a party animal in comparison to his sister briel who was known for her wild drunken antics.
you had been there and lived in your small ship for a total of two days before they offered you a place with them. no one lived alone on scarif, they said, and it would be wrong to let you continue to be deprived of the peace the waters brought when it was lulling you to sleep.
meeting the duke of scarif during your first week planetside was quite an exhilarating experience, to put it briefly. duke buffett was an older man with hair as white as the sands he loved to party on day and night, one hand perpetually occupied by a drink and a guitar strapped to his back. he was known to play and sing during the parties he attended, his carefree attitude evident in his voice.
although no one would have guessed by looking at him, he was a fierce conservationist who would either have his guards fight anyone caught littering or, if drunk enough, would fight them himself. you’ve held him back a time or two when he clearly wasn’t in shape to do said fighting and helped ease the situation back to a fun normal.
now you weren’t a heavy drinker by any means, but your tolerance was better than most because of your connection to the force.  this made you a favorite drinking buddy to many of the planet’s permanent inhabitants and tourists. of these numbers was the duke himself whom you would sometimes humor by opening drinks with your lightsaber. it was a splendid game that won you diplomatic immunity (apparently he can do that) on the planet after two weeks of jedi party tricks and fight-preventing.
time had become even more of a social construct than you had believed it to be before the war. there were parties going on at all hours of the day and night and the concept of solitude was forgotten. everyone here extended a hand to each other, friend or not-yet friend (there were no strangers on scarif, just friends you haven’t made yet). what little pain felt was carried by all until it was so faint that it seemed to heal itself. the waters healed, you had no doubt in your mind.
the sun was high in the sky when the ship landed next to yours behind your current residence. you were, of course, not home to know where it landed but you did see said ship flying overhead as you relaxed on a blanket next to briel and miek. maybe they were lost, but you had confidence that someone on the island would help them in what they need. this was the way of scarif, after all.
you were distracted by the drinks in both of your hands, alternating sips between the two. you were outfitted in a flowy summer dress that had ridden up a smidge too high while you were lounging on a reclined beach chair. briel was rubbing - lotion? sunscreen? - something on your exposed thighs as you relaxed, enjoying the way the breeze felt on the moisturized skin.
this was the best decision you’ve ever made, coming to scarif. eventually you were going to leave, yeah, but that was a problem for future you. for now, you were going to enjoy the endless sunshine and copious amounts of alcohol that aided in your relaxation.
Tumblr media
they had seen the docking bay protruding into the sky like a gundark among loth-cats and decided instantly that you weren’t going to be there. you had told them ages ago that the vibes (you used that word a lot to describe force things to them) that came from industrial buildings bothered you terribly. something along the lines of wearing on your psyche, if they remembered correctly. instead, they flew a little lower than they probably should have to search the ground for where you landed your ship.
it took longer than they would have liked it to, but your ship was eventually found behind a medium-sized hut not too far from one of the many beaches. cody found just the right angle to land next to it and not hurt either shuttle, not trusting rex to touch the controls (his vod was a terrible pilot).
both men decided that even if scarif was a peaceful planet, they still didn’t know what to expect, so they equipped themselves with their blasters and lower armor before leaving their ship. first order of business: check to see if you were in your ship. if you weren’t, they could cross that bridge when they got there.
just as they were beginning to open the ramp, a man emerged from the hut and began to storm their way. he was togrutan, with yellow skin and lavender stripes on his lekku and montrals.
“hey! you two! what’s your business with that shuttle?” he sounded like he was ready to fight them about the ship, which worried the brothers, but he slowed his advance when he noticed the two blasters pointed in his direction. good, this guy wasn’t a complete di’kut.
cody was the first to lower his weapon, quick to take the diplomatic approach. rex followed suit but didn’t soften the intimidating stare he threw at the man. there was a reason your ship was there and they were going to stop at nothing to find out why. “we’re looking for a friend of ours, she hasn’t answered our comms in over a week and we were worried, it isn’t like her to not reply. last we talked to her she was here on scarif.”
the togrutan paused for a moment, inspecting the appearances of the men (clones, his mind told him, the telltale armor and near identical faces hiding nothing) in front of him.
the blond had an air of confidence about him, an almost dangerous sort of confidence. his armor was painted with a shade of blue that was pleasantly similar to the waters he just returned from, pieces of it chipped from what he supposed were rough times in battle. his jaw was set, hand hovering above where he holstered his weapon seconds before.
he didn’t appear to be bloodthirsty, just protective; who he wanted to protect, however, was still a mystery. there was a passion in his eyes that wasn’t even mildly held back. he seemed to be skilled in channeling that passion into his every thought, every action. with a note to himself to not get on this man’s bad side, he switched his focus on the blond’s companion.
miek’s gaze shifted to the other clone and quickly decided that he liked this one better. there was an extremely intimidating scar along the side of his face, yet this one seemed far less willing to shoot him on sight. he still has a grit and presence about him that told miek that this one wouldn’t hesitate to fuck your shit up if need be, but he had tact (thank the stars one of the clones had a sense of discretion).
he could tell that this one had some sort of authority over the blond, clearly serving as a high percentage of the other’s common sense. miek’s mind, after analyzing the men thoroughly, gives names for the men before they introduce themselves. “you must be the famed rex and cody! come, i’ll take you to the shoreline!”
he gestured for them to follow him and was genuinely shocked when instead of doing as he suggested, he was tackled to the ground. miek spit away everything that had gotten into his mouth, unable to move when one of the men pinned him down. this was officially miek’s worst day in over a decade.
he caught a glimpse of marigold stripes on leg armor just over his shoulder, confirming the identity of the man on top of him as rex. “how do you know our names?!” rex’s voice sent a shiver down miek’s spine (the blaster against his back also helped in that), and the togrutan reaffirmed his choice in his favorite clone: not rex.
“i’ve heard stories about you two! from y/n! i’m assuming you’re here about y/n, right?” the blaster was removed from his back and a little bit of the weight was taken off him. he must be saying something right. “she’s been staying with my sister and i, and i promise you she’s perfectly safe!” rex moves his weight completely off him now, allowing miek to stand back up but not move more than a few feet away from him.
“where is she?” cody’s voice was hauntingly low, nothing about him betraying his tension except for the hard glare felt like lasers. he had the same desire, same yearning to protect someone - that someone miek now knew was you - and it burned brighter than a hundred suns.
“last i saw her was thirty minutes ago on the shore with briel, my sister. i can take you to them if you would kindly not threaten to shoot me again. my name is miek, and i would say it was a pleasure to meet you both but then i’d be making myself a liar.” he had no idea where that bit of snark at the end came from but it seemed to sway the clones to his favor. why it did, he had no clue, but at least he wasn’t getting shot.
they walked silently for a few minutes, the two troopers beginning to slightly admire the view while keeping eyes on miek. it was a beautiful planet, there was no denying that. you were surely enjoying yourself in the sunshine, always finding a little bit of time to bask in the nature of whatever planet you ended up on during the war.
it was strange to cody, not feeling eyes on him as he walked with rex on the beach. when he would accompany general ke- obi-wan on trips to the temple or into the streets of coruscant, he constantly felt the eyes of many on him. they would be expressing curiosity, shock, disdain, or something in between, and cody could feel every bit of it. here, it seemed, no one cared that he was a clone. no one was leering at him for walking too close to them or for just breathing the same air as them. cody was blissfully able to blend with the people here and he loved it.
he was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t notice when miek had come to a stop in front of a small cluster of reclinable chairs. a large umbrella provided the area with a patch of shade and a smidge of reprieve from the sun’s blistering heat.
“see? she’s perfectly fine.” miek’s voice broke their precious silence. “i’m assuming you both can find your own way back to your ship, so i’ll be headed off.” miek left them quite quickly and rex guessed (with a bit more amusement than was warranted) that it was because he nearly shot the man on more than one occasion minutes earlier.
“cody! rex! when did you two get here?”
a familiar voice drew their attention and it took them a second longer than it should have for them to realize that yes, you were the one lounging in front of them as if it’s all you’ve ever done in your life. you were extremely relaxed and your posture conveyed your state perfectly, two margaritas perched in loose hands, both half-empty. an ivory summer dress flowed loosely around you, the front hiked a bit too high for the men to keep their imaginations under control. that wasn’t even acknowledging the neckline of your dress (or lack thereof) that made their throats a bit dry and minds slip into the gutter.
rex and cody cleared their heads after indulging the images for a second, the latter clearing his throat before replying, “just a few minutes ago. you haven’t answered our comms in over a week. rex had the idea to come and visit to see how you were doing, so here we are.”
that was really sweet of them to check up on you, you thought with a smile. you felt a bit guilty about not answering their comms. normally you were careful to reply to theirs and every other message you received soon after getting it, but as stated earlier, time has become a social construct that didn’t really matter while on scarif. you gestured for them to sit, and they took the open chair to your left. they didn’t bother laying back, just sitting shoulder to shoulder in the same chair with their eyes on you.
offering them both half-drank margaritas was a subconscious action on your part that surprised you. what shocked you even more was the fact they accepted the drinks with soft, fond smiles. kriff you missed them, how you’ve been able to go this long without seeing them was beyond you.
you smiled warmly as you introduced your boys to briel, who was smirking a bit too widely than would be deemed safe (you didn’t notice this, seeing as you were too busy drinking in the sight of your boys and the way the sunlight made their eyes glow). her eyes drifted to your thighs as she put in very little effort to hide a laugh. dark clone trooper eyes decided to see what was so amusing to the togruta, and they choked on whatever words they were contemplating.
on your thighs were rex and cody, left and right respectively. or, more accurately, on your thighs were six-inch tattoos of rex and cody.
both men were in quite show-offy poses, appearing to have the intent to make them look like pin-ups. the lower half of their armor was equipped but they were shirtless, faint details of scars and sweat appearing to glisten in imaginary sunlight.
cody’s face was set in a smolder the likes of which would send half the women in the galaxy into puddles at the commander’s feet. his dc-15a was held aloft in his right hand while his left arm was holding his helmet in place in the crook of his hip. his left foot was stepping on a small heap of droids which brought his knee up a bit, and he was facing the inked rex on the opposite thigh.
rex’s wild smile could catch the soggiest piece of kindling alight with the allure and charm it held. his eyes were sparkling with a pleasant mirth not often seen in the man. both hands wielded his trusted dc-17’s, the right blaster pointed at the droids under cody’s foot while the left was pointed in the air, blaster bolts coming out of both. his helmet was under his right foot, jaig eyes almost peering into your soul and welding marks visible from his customization of the phase 2 helmet.
commander and captain are both beginning to flush at the art in front of them. they were flattered to see drawings of themselves look so dashing, and seeing it on your body roused feelings they had spent years repressing. their biggest question now was whether their likenesses on your body translated into something more on your end.
“nice to finally meet my friend’s muses,” briel quips, “it’s hard to get her to talk about something that isn’t you two when she’s plastered.” she pauses a moment, thinking of her next words and chuckling to herself. “she’s barely spent three consecutive days completely sober since she got here, which means that you two are almost all she talks about.”
this deepened the heat in their cheeks as you playfully swatted at briel’s shoulder. “that is not true!” a moment of silence. “wait, what day is it? that miiiight make a difference.”
rex chortles at the admission. “glad to see you enjoying yourself, cyare. but kix would be enraged to hear that you’ve been drinking nearly every day for two months, and we can’t exactly blame him.” he grinned as he took an experimental sip of the drink you gave him. it was stronger than he expected, but it had an underlying sweetness not often found in margaritas. he liked it.
sitting up, your dress covered your ink as you expertly drank from the margarita in cody’s hand while he still held it. the commander sent you a soft glare, wondering why you didn’t just get a new drink but enjoying the moment nonetheless. “kix shmix, his face isn’t on my thigh so i don’t really care what he has to say right now.” you lean toward cody and rex before whispering, “you didn’t bring him, did you?”
all three of them guffawed at the question, you joining their laughter solely because of how happy the joy radiating from your boys’ force signatures made you.
calling them your boys had become second nature after mere months of fighting beside them. you spent an inane amount of time with them during planning and actual combat, and were just as much their general as their actual generals were (despite you not carrying the honorific). any free time was spent with one or the other if available, but if they were both occupied you would make your way toward the barracks and join a few games of sabacc.
there were nights you’d spend in the barracks with either battalion (depends on which group you were assigned to at the time) and be welcomed there as if you were a fellow clone. they taught you to play sabacc and you enjoyed playing with them despite the fact you had the most rotten luck with the game.
winning didn’t carry any weight when you were able to spend time with rex and cody, shamelessly basking in the way they always seemed to have some sort of physical contact with you every moment possible. when rex and/or cody returned from whatever responsibilities held them earlier, the men were quick to relinquish them a seat next to you with a sly grin.
their vode noticed the affection shared for the jedi on sabacc night number two and didn’t hesitate to spread word of it around to the rest of their battalions and beyond. on the nights you accompanied them on trips to 79’s, men under rex and cody both (read: fives and boil) made sure that the rest of their brothers and the occasional civvie knew that you three were off-limits to anyone but each other. you were their jetti & they were your captain and commander, no one would get between that even if it wasn’t decided among those in question.
“nah, he’s kept his head in his work. he just got his civvie medical license, started his own private practice on naboo.” rex was extremely happy for his brother, although it was strange to not see him nearly every day. it took a while before he was used to the lack of vode around him at all moments, but cody has been a massive help with that transition.
cody nodded before adding onto his brother’s statement. “and besides, we’re not that cruel, cyar’ika.” you grinned at the endearing tone, choosing that moment to snag another drink from the glass in cody’s hand. he swatted at your hand gently but didn’t put up a fight otherwise, just smiling at how carefree you’d become.
during their comms you did sound at peace, and the times where you’d appear via hologram to him your posture was less rigid than it was during wartime. scarif was good for you, cody knew this. the knowledge of your happiness, however, couldn’t prevent selfish thoughts from returning to the front of his mind. thoughts of you leaving scarif with him and rex, lighting up their apartment better than the sun with nothing but a smile were pipe dreams he indulged in when nightmares of war caught up to him.
“y’know,” you began, “no one would ever tell me what that word really meant.” the men froze, trying to play it off. they were saved only by the fact you kept talking. “none of the men ever gave me a straight answer, just saying that it was something you say to someone you trusted. i even asked duchess satine about it when i was on mandalore. she asked who was using the word and when i told her it was you two, she just grinned like a tooka with a rat tail hanging from its mouth.”
duchess satine was most definitely going to be receiving a gift in the near future.
briel chose that moment to speak for the first time in a while, crossing her arms behind her head. “i’ve never been to mandalore nor heard a lick of what i’m guessing is its native language, but you’d have to be a fool to not guess its meaning by now.” her words were directed at you but they made the men sputter.
“what is that supposed to mean, brie?”
“seriously? please tell me you’re kidding.”
briel was absolutely incredulous. how could a member of the highly revered jedi order, known for the wisdom of its members, not read between the lines? they were giving her plenty to work with in terms of evidence of their affections that they weren’t hiding very well, how did you not know?!
silence followed her words and she came to the startling realization that you were, in fact, not kidding. “look at them, these two adore you! they followed you here like stray tookas when you didn’t comm them enough.” the men didn’t even bother looking offended as they were called out by the togruta. they were scared you’d be disgruntled at the blatant show of care for you but briel wasn’t done. “sithspit y/n, you got tattoos of them because you said you missed them so much!”
hold on, rewind, what did she just say?!
“you… missed us?” rex’s voice was softer than anyone had heard it be in a long time. part of him aches to throw his drink over his shoulder and take you into his arms with no regard to the outside world, yet he restrains himself. this could very well be a trap, an illusion or extremely detailed dream the likes of which he’s never experienced.
then again, how would that explain his mind creating a taste for something he’s never had before?
he concluded that this was indeed real, and he very well could do exactly as his heart desires if he let go for just a moment, just long enough for the contents of his glass to seep into the sand and his calloused hands to roam your exposed skin.
but he also remembers long talks with his ori’vod about their mutual affections for you. how selfish and uncaring it would be for him to try and keep you to himself after spending so many nights lamenting with cody about the way you made them both feel more human. the way you tethered them to sanity when the war threatened to dispose of what little control they had over themselves or their fates, the softness of your fingers intertwined with theirs whenever you had the chance. both men would contemplate the way you’d taste as you downed several shots at 79’s or cups of the contraband moonshine brewed by the men, wondering how much would be the alcohol and how much would be you and wishing that they could find out.
it would be a betrayal far greater and even more despicable than that of palpatine and the republic, and rex didn’t think he could handle losing the respect of his ori’vod no matter what was given in return. not even you.
the togruta woman officially lost the last speck of patience she held for the clueless, lovesick trio, groaning that she gave up as she left them to their own devices.
you were confused. why would you not miss them? did those years of fighting next to them and caring about them and loving them not translate to the idea of missing them when they were gone? yeah you were a little tipsy when you got your tattoos, but that didn’t change the facts as to why you got them: you wanted cody and rex by your side and moments spent without them were moments spent unhappy. they were your boys, the two reasons you kept fighting in that cursed war instead of returning to the temple with your tail between your legs at the first sign of combat.
cody downed his margarita with a solid gulp before taking your right hand in both of his, face twisted almost identically to his brother’s while processing the information you presented. he marveled in the familiar grooves and calluses from battle that were beginning to soften, thoroughly enjoying the fact he didn’t have to hide anything from you or the rest of the galaxy about the love - cody was sure now that this was indeed love - he held for you and you alone.
“is that true, cyar’ika?” cody’s voice was sickeningly hopeful. he’s never allowed himself to hope, knowing that diving too deep into desire could lead to consequences tantamount to death. hearing you stumble over your words as you admitted to loving him, loving him and rex both in the same capacity, cracked the last mask of stoicism he had in his reserves. his mouth was smiling but his eyes were wet, and anyone who didn’t know him would think the man was karking mad.
you weren’t as focused on your boys as you would have been any other moment, too busy trying to figure out what you said for cody to ask about and oh. holy shit, i said all of that out loud. then, a brief moment of clarity. i said every bit of that, but they’re not leaving. they’re instead moving closer, taking my hands in theirs and then- “have i ever lied to either of you?” your heart once again overpowered your brain, taking over your vocal chords and bringing voice to your thoughts.
rex nestled his glass into the sand before going to his knees in front of you, eyes sparkling from both the scarif sun and unshed tears. “you could never, ner’jetti.” he rested his chin on your knee not blocked by cody, his subconscious deciding to nuzzle his head into the hand that had come up to his face.
within seconds, the clunky armor had taken to the sand. they didn’t startle at the sudden exposure to just their bottom blacks because they could feel the soft humming of the force around them, knowing that it was merely you making them more comfortable. you were pulling them toward you and into your reclined chair, rex’s chin in one hand and cody’s hands in the other. they were quick to take a hint, immediately moving to either side of you to lay on their sides, facing their jetti with soft smiles.
rex made quick work of wrapping an arm around your waist, face burying itself into the crook of your neck as best he could. he inhaled your scent, the familiar ozone that came with the force mingling wonderfully with scarif’s ocean water and the tropical drinks you’ve been keeping yourself busy with.
cody tangled one hand into your hair, fingers softly moving as he rested his other arm slightly above his brother’s. the hand touching your waist softly stroked your side as he let his eyes drift closed, the force wrapped around him like a blanket of protection.
no one spoke of love in the hours you spent wrapped in each other’s arms in that uncomfortable-for-three-people chair. the admissions and conveyance of all the love held between the three of you was saved for the privacy of their ship. cody and rex worshiped you and you did the same for them, no one allowing there to be a single doubt as to where your hearts belong.

So, the GAR is a mess as we all know. It doesn’t really make sense but I untangled some of it so here ya go. Pictures of what I figured out are at the bottom.
So there are 10 systems armies, led by the Jedi council. Of the other 2 council members, Shaak ti is on Kamino overseeing the clones, and there is one other council member, possibly Yoda, who isn’t directly over a group. That one is up for debate though.
Each army has 2 sectors, likely one led again by a council member, (jedi high general) and the other led by a senior jedi master. Each sector has 4 corps (so 8 corps an army) with each corp being led by a Marshall commander and Jedi General. These generals are probably mostly masters, with some knights as needed. My personal thought is that the high jedi generals are in command of the system army, one half of the sector, and one corps. Then depending on the master, they may be in direct control of one legion, regiment, OR battalion. (We never hear of regiments but assume they are there). My argument for this is that Obi-wan, Mace, and Plo Koon seem to have smaller groups that they lead personally for stealth missions and they attach to the groups they are assisting, but seem to be outside of all other command structures.
Again, the show doesn’t quite make sense because we want to see characters we know which means we see council members working together more than we probably should, but whatever. Moving on.
Legions are generally the lowest grouping led directly by a Jedi (and a senior clone commander), probably mostly knights, but a good chunk of masters too. I gotta think that at first it was based on jedi rank, then the council started fine tuning based on actual skill level at leading soldiers. Regiments are led by junior clone commanders and Jedi commanders/padawans when possible. Padawans are much more outside the structure though, because they spend most of their time with their master. They are likely to not be in direct control day to day, but are placed in the needed command per battle or siege.
Battalions work the same way, but are technically led by battalion commanders, which are made of companies which are led by captains. I’m not going any smaller but you get the idea. Everything from sector army down is made of 4 of the lower thing, so in the whole GAR there are a grand total of 10 system armies, 80 corps, 320 legions, 1280 regiments, 5120 battalions, and 20480 companies.
Which brings me to naming. Honestly the numbers are probably arbitrary, and don’t repeat other than the 10 system armies. (The 7th sky Corps is in the 3rd system army). Everything smaller than a legion (possibly a battalion) probably has a name not number (torrent company) but if you did use numbers, repetition would no longer be a problem because you would divide by legion first, then the unit you are naming-at least on official records. The one caveat is Obi-wan’s battalion, which is probably special cause it’s hooked to a high general. Again, battalions probably have numbers, but since you aren’t going to be mixing system armies often (or ever except that the show does) repetition in numbers isn’t actually an issue, especially if any repetition is in different unit sizes, battalion to legion. Plus battalions will have a secondary name, like attack battalion, which could also help. If there are difference numbers may repeat within those.
There are 400-430 jedi generals at any given time, with extra jedi either floating to give assistance, do spy work (quinlan vos), or fill other needed roles like medical and keeping the temple running.
Unlike your average earth army, officers are in the thick of the fighting, meaning that the higher ranked officers will coordinate whatever they are leading, but will generally personally lead smaller units because Jedi are most effective in the center of the action. Senior padawans were probably almost all knighted within a few months of the clone wars starting because they needed more generals, which is how Anakin ended up with a legion.
For the most part jedi work alone or in pairs, so the high generals will give their units places to be and general objectives and then let them go. There is less oversight unless large planetary assaults like Umbara are needed. A system army will be spread out wide because there are only 10 armies to cover the galaxy, even taking into account separatist space. So corps or legions of the same sector might be spread out on different planets. Along with this, there are not other branches of the military. So each sector army is going to be made of ground units, space/pilot units, etc. Some units are clean up or occupation units that come in after the fact, though we really only see the attack units because of our main characters.
The title/rank Commander is used for multiple ranks, but Cody is the highest rank clone in the GAR, or at least one of them. He is a Marshall commander, over a corps, so there are likely 80 of them, but on top of that he works directly with a high general, making him even higher in the command structure even if not officially. He’s gotta help with the sector and system armies sometimes honestly. Cody seems to directly lead his battalion (no battalion commander) but deals with logistics for the whole corps.
High jedi generals are gonna pick a unit size that works for them like I mentioned above. Obi-wan often runs stealth or speed missions, unless he is working directly with Anakin. But even then they are the pair sent in to tricky situations with basically no back up. The GAR uses them when they need something done with the least amount of men. Some generals that are used in big assaults or blockades are going to use bigger units as their personal unit. We see Mace Windu have a battalion, but also lightning squadron within that for truly messy situations. Mace and Obi-wan also likely guide the other Jedi High Generals (the open circle armada fits in here somehow? Honestly idk) in battle strategy and keeping all the armies cohesive and out of each other’s way.
Oh and also the coruscant guard are outside the 10 system armies, led directly by palpatine (who is technically the commander and chief of the whole GAR which is why the council always has to listen to him) and led by 4 clone commanders, Fox seems to be the most senior, either by rank or self sacrifice, we aren’t really sure. They protect the planet and primarily the senators.
I pulled all this info from wookipedia, the couple of great GAR posts I have on my blog from other people, and puzzle work, or just personal headcanons.

Summary: Anakin time travels back to Dooku’s Padawan days and doesn’t know how to deal with the infuriating bastard. AN: I blame my discord. Read on AO3
Anakin tried to think of what words of wisdom Obi-Wan would bestow upon him. Probably something about patience and following the Force and how to not consequently fuck up the next sixty years of history, but Obi-Wan also never had to deal with a young Padawan Dooku eyeing him critically, like he was trying to figure out what made Anakin tick.
Anakin was kind of torn between wanting to rip his throat or... something else Anakin didn’t quite know how to define. Whatever it was, it wasn’t fair. Dooku was the Sith Lord who had cut off his arm, get a grip Anakin.
Except this Dooku really wasn’t. He was just Yoda’s Padawan, even if likely not for much longer given that Anakin’s only friend in this timeline, Initiate Qui-Gon Jinn was already ten years old. Yes, Anakin knew that it was a little pathetic that his best and only friend was a child half his size – Anakin had hardly recognized him when he’d first stumbled upon Qui-Gon. The boy was so small, it was bizarre. But it wasn’t like Anakin had many people he could interact with as long as he wasn’t totally caught up on the Republic’s current history. Master Yoda had strictly forbidden Anakin from revealing anything about the future to any member of the Jedi Order who was not on the Council.
Or Padawan Dooku, in whose lap Anakin had literally dropped when Darth Tyrannus’ weird Sith magic had torn Anakin from his own time, stranding him permanently in the past.
Sighing, Anakin attempted to ignore Dooku staring at him intensely. It was bad enough that he had private tutoring with the younger man – okay, it was just a couple months, but Anakin privately liked to hold it over his head – now he also followed Anakin just about everywhere but the fresher.
He fell back into the first position of Djem So. He couldn’t let his lightsaber skills get rusty just because he wasn’t fighting in a galactic war anymore. That was another thing that unsettled Anakin. No more sleeping in his tiny cabin on the Resolute, no more cramming Ahsoka’s mandatory lessons into the few breaks they had, no more droid armies, no more Separatists, no more Sith Lords.
Well, the latter two weren’t entirely true. The Senate had been broken long before Anakin had been born. Now that he paid attention to it, he could already see many of the issues that would cause it to split. He just hoped that the Council and him could do something against it. It was too bad the Chancellor wasn’t in office already. He was probably just a little kid right now, even younger than Anakin and the current Chancellor was by far not as charismatic as Palpatine had been.
He certainly was of no interest to the Sith either, no matter where they were hiding right now. Anakin had never managed to figure out the identity of Tyrannus’ Master and the baby Sith currently still checking him out definitely couldn’t tell him.
“Can I help you somehow?” Anakin asked, hoping he managed to keep all annoyance out of his voice.
He dropped out of his stance and turned to Dooku. The Padawan was sitting on one of the benches, working on a paper or another, maybe his final thesis. Anakin had never had to write one to become a Knight. For one, there was no time during the war, and on the other hand, he had already done that when he was fourteen and gotten really passionate about Nubian hyperdrives.
“No, not at all. I merely admire your execution of Form IV. You are very well practiced.”
Dooku sounded honest enough, but Anakin still felt like it was a backhanded compliment.
“Thanks,” Anakin replied. “Was that everything?”
Dooku raised a brow, the perfect picture of innocence, but Anakin knew better. He had fought a far more experienced version of the man in front of him and learned to call his bluffs. This Dooku was not really a threat. He was just there, constantly in the corner of Anakin’s vision and being a Force-damned distraction.
“I’m not the one asking questions here.”
No, but if he was there any longer, Anakin was going to shut him up in some other way.
“Just- get over here. You can go study in your room or whatever, no need to be in the training halls at three in the morning unless you want to spar.”
Dooku grinned cockily and got up from his seat, his lightsaber already in hand. It looked very different from the blade Anakin remembered defending against. Its blue color still startled him as well, but somehow it suited this young Dooku. He stepped onto the mats and Anakin resumed a position opposite to his opponent. They both bowed as it was tradition, then ignited their lightsabers. For a moment neither moved, then they both jumped into the battle. Dooku’s Ataru still caught Anakin off-guard, but his Makashi less so. He wasn’t a proficient Master of Form II yet, but that one at least Anakin was more than familiar with. The two of them exchanged blows with more Force than strictly necessary for a training spar, bringing emotions into it that should not be there. Anakin was pissed off because Dooku wouldn’t leave him alone, but he had no idea what he had done to cause Dooku to fight so viciously.
Then Anakin finally saw an opening and took it. He slammed is leg into the back of Dooku’s knee, causing him to stumble. With another Force-push, Anakin made him fall flat on his back. He rushed towards his opponent and held his blade to his neck.
“Yield,” Anakin ordered, but Dooku did not, at least not immediately.
Instead he was once more studying Anakin like he could see a possible weakness.
“Yield,” Anakin said again and finally Dooku replied with a “Solah.”
Anakin turned off his ‘saber and he should get up, step away from his defeated training partner, but for some reason he couldn’t get himself to do so, looking into Dooku’s troubled brown eyes.
“What is your kriffing problem with me?” Anakin finally asked, Dooku still pinned beneath him.
Apparently, that was all it took as for once the Padawan didn’t keep his thoughts hidden behind a mask of feigned politeness and sarcasm.
“My problem with you, Skywalker, is that you are poaching my future Padawan!”
Anakin blinked. Dooku must be joking. All the backhand comments and the challenges and it was for this?
“I’m not trying to steal Qui-Gon from you, you git!”
Dooku didn’t try to get up, but he did cross his arms in defiance.
“That’s not what it looks like from here, offering him extra tutoring and spending every free minute with him-“
“Who else am I supposed to talk to?” Anakin snarled. “I’m stuck here! My Master won’t even be born for another thirty years, my Padawan for another twenty and my-“
Anakin closed up. He shouldn’t think about them, all he had lost. He’d been doing so well but of course Darth Tyrannus in the making had to goad him. “All my friends, my family, are gone and if I ever see them again, they won’t be mine. I only know a handful of people in this time and Qui-Gon just happens to be one of them!”
Honestly, it was almost a little embarrassing to admit, but once Anakin had realized who the short blond Initiate was, he had almost started crying. The rooms in the Temple were still the same, as were the robes and the traditions and the lessons, but it wasn’t his home. All his people were gone and the Jedi that lived during these times were mostly strangers, a few long-lived ones such as Master Yoda being the exception. But they weren’t exactly people Anakin had been close with.
“You knew him in the future,” Dooku said slowly.
He didn’t look frustrated anymore, more interested suddenly as if he were seeing Anakin with new eyes.
Anakin nodded once, sharply. “He saved my life.”
“He’ll be a great Jedi then,” Dooku concluded, sounding utterly pleased.
“The very best,” Anakin confirmed.
Dooku then began to smile in earnest, kind and happy in a way Anakin had never seen before, hadn’t thought him capable of, to be honest. The whole thing threw Anakin off completely. Seriously, what was going on with this Dooku?
“What of his Master?”
He became a Sith Lord and joined the people that had killed his apprentice and then continued trying to kill his grand-Padawans, but no big deal.
“He’s a git,” Anakin said instead. “Super arrogant, terrible footwork, can’t even block a simple kick.”
Dooku snorted. “At least he’s not as bad as his sparring partner?”
“What?”
“Careless,” Dooku replied and tugged at Anakin’s collar, pulling him down.
It took Anakin perhaps a moment too long to realize that Dooku was kissing him, but he considered it fair given that just moments before the other had been attempting to beat the life out of him. The kiss was by no means spectacular, but Dooku was warm beneath Anakin’s hands and when they broke apart for air, Anakin had no troubles diving in for a second kiss, all rationality thrown out of the speeder as he pushed his tongue inside Dooku’s mouth and hurried to get his hands beneath the other’s robes.
“Not a word to anybody,” Dooku said as flipped them around, stripping Anakin out of his tabard.
Anakin only rolled his eyes. “Wasn’t planning on it.”
He could deal with the fallout of this once he had his rationality back and was not, in fact, about to let Padawan Dooku fuck him. That was a problem for tomorrow-Anakin, right-now-Anakin was a little busy taking off his clothes.

The spider web
Ok, i’m trying again. It’s mostly an exercise for my cruncky written english, so forgive me for all the mistakes i surely made writing this shit. I didn’t even have a plot, it all started with the nice pic of Ewan McGregor, that made me think about a very uncomfortable Obi-Wan, so don’t expect it to go any direction. It’s merely a writing exercise, but of course, comments and corrections are very welcomed. I wanted to write something about how relationships are viewed in the Jedi Order, without some of my most dreaded misconceptions about jedi being cold and incapable of love.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There, again. He wasn’t even trying to be uncospicuos.
“Anakin, for good’s sake.” Thought Obi-Wan, watching his former Padawan flirting with Padmé, at the Chancellor party after the Opera, just weeks after the battle of Geonosis. He had to wear one of those uncomfortable civilian suit, and his lightsaber was in a pocket inside the jacket, instead of having it at his belt, as usual, and he felt out of place, almost naked. Leaning on the side of the door to the terrace, with the wind of upper Coruscant muffling the sound of traffic outside, he felt a bit lost, and Anakin was making a fool of himself, in the middle of the party. But trying to stop, in that moment, would just resulted in an unpleasant discussion, late that night at the Temple, and he had enough of bickering with Anakin, that day.
Tumblr media
They already discussed about the opportunity to attend the party, and both Obi-Wan and the Council tried to talk the Chancellor off from that idea of the party, thinking that there was absolutely nothing to celebrate, at the beginning of a war that nobody wanted, but Palpatine was sure it was a way to reassure people that the war would be easily win and everything was as always. But all the Jedi had a very bad feeling about that. Discovering a huge clone army, in the same moment when Dooku displayed his droid army, was a clear sign that this war would be all but short.
Obi-Wan sighted. He knew how dangerous it was for Anakin to pursue any kind of relationship with the Naboo Senator. If only she was a Jedi herself, things could be easier. The rule was against attachment, not against relationships, and mostly the Council agreed that the biggest problem came when one of the person involved didn’t share the sentimental education that the Jedi Order gave their children. Padawan were taught to speak openly about their feelings since childhood, to masters, to counselors, between themselves, the aim being to be able to rationalize emotion and deal with them without being clouded and misguided. When padawans hit their teen, or the developmental age in which hormones started to rush and was almost impossible not to feel a strong urge to discover love and sex, they were guided through relationships, learned to talk frankly with their partners, so that any problem and eventual breakups were less painful possible, and no bad feelings could develop. As an adult, a jedi could freely choose to be entirely celibate or to have relationships, and if the partner was a jedi too, it wasn’t much of a fuss. Mostly, it was an open secret that a lot of couples existed inside the order, nothing to make a show off, but neither to hide.
Having a relationship with someone outside the order, on the other side, was a completely different thing, and often it was a total mess. Obi-Wan knew it well.
Satine... her face never left his memory, and he could recognize he had a faint feeling for her, after all those years. Mostly because they had to depart. She was the next Duchess of Mandalore, he was a jedi. She wanted, kriff, she needed someone able to stay with her, to fight with her, to be... a partner. She even stated it, but she never asked him to be her partner. Had she asked... Obi-Wan knew that his answer would be yes. He’d left the Order, for her. With no remorse? That was entirely another question, with no easy answer. But a choice had to be made, there was no other way around.
And that was where Anakin was having hard time to understand. That boy, kriff, that man didn’t understand that his master attempt to talk about Padmé was not an intrusion, was real concern. Obi-Wan was extremely worried, he tried to tell him that he, or anyone in the Order was more than willing to help him, but Anakin had the same problem since they found him on Tatooine, and that was the reason Master Yoda was so wary of the Chosen One. His tendency to hide his feelings, to storm out of a room, trying to convince everyone and himself that he was good, and he knew what he had to do, was a wall behind he was almost out of reach, even for the people who loved him most.
If there wasn’t a war in sight, maybe Obi-Wan could just shrug it off as a thing to work with Anakin, in time, with the mental space his former padawan needed to mature more, but it wasn’t the moment. Not if they must be ready to leave Coruscant in any moment to fight a war where they could die in any moment, and with thousands of innocent lives, men built to be meat for the war, to watch upon. Clones deserved better, they needed a guidance able to remember that they were people too, and not machines to be used and discarded. They were slaves, in a sense, and Obi-Wan remembered the cold shivers he had on Camino, when he discovered them. It took all his training not to scream, when he saw all those kids, the apparent age of Anakin when he took him as padawan, all with the same age, learning war tactics and fight, and all those man, the same face again and again and again, ready to fight for a Republic that didn’t even know they existed and didn’t care for them. It was so much against all his deep beliefs and faith in the light side of the Force that he still feared the fist day of war, when he’ll be asked to guide them in battle. How could he, let all this men be killed in a war that was so clearly sensless, from the start? Satine was a pacifist, and they mostly agreed that war or conflicts were to be avoided til the last chance, that negotiation where always the best option. He wasn’t maybe so extreme as her, he agreed with Qui-Gon that some forme of defence was needed, but never offence.
This war? Was really necessary? Weren’t they hardly failing already, as a democracy and as a Order, to let things slide so far.
Another headache.
Obi-Wan picked another glass of that sweet golden wine from Alderaan that smelled like flowers and remembered that there was no good in worrying about the future. Only the present, the Living Force. He almost felt the hand of Qui-Gon on his shoulder. Sometimes he had the impression that his late master whispered some wise words in his ears, but it was just grief and memory, he knew. He breathed deeply a couple of time, before drinking.
Tomorrow. He’ll talk with Anakin, trying to put some good sense in that rocky head of his, but for now he was done. He went to the Chancellor to give his respect before leaving and headed to the Temple.
Anakin saw him leaving. A pang of guilt hit him, he even thought to go and tell him something, maybe just that they would talk the next day, but Palpatine choose that moment to put a hand on his new prosthetic hand.
“My boy!” the old man said, smiling. “I hope you’re enjoying this little party. And you look very handsome in this suit, much better than those baggy jedi suit. You should always dress in black, it suits you, you know! Don’t you agree, Senator Amidala?” He asked, looking at Padme and noticing that faint blush that colored the former Naboo queen, as she looked to Anakin, and smiled more. “I wish the jedi could lend you to us” he said, waving the hand to the hall full of people “more often, you’re our hero, you know! But I guess that being a jedi means sacrifice, isn’t it?”
Anakin nodded, smiling and exchanging a brief look with Padme, and they both looked away, a bit awkwardly. The thought of Obi-Wan was almost obliterate, just a distant worry behind the curtains.
Palpatine smiled. Adulation was the right weapon, with Anakin. Oh, he knew it very well, afar form his former master and in the middle of coruscani jet set, Anakin was at his weakest... how easy it was! Palpatine had almost hard time restraining himself from laughing hard.
The spider web was in place.

Observations while watching The Empire Strikes Back on this, its 40th anniversary:
1. Anakin’s continual terrible choices are astounding, and I don’t understand any of them, other than to say that he is in such deep denial that he can’t fucking figure out that Sheev lied about Padme’s death from the fact that Luke exists at all.
2. Yoda. Has. Fucking. Lost. His. Mind. That entire conversation with Luke and Ben in his little hut is cracked. He’s spent 20 years, alone, in hiding after losing the war, the Republic and the Order and it warped him.
3. Obi-Wan continues to give himself way more status than he had by claiming that Yoda was his Master. Also, a liar: “Was I any different when you trained me?” Yes. Yes you were, dummy.
4. So many dead Imperial officers. So, so many.
5. R2 spends what is likely his entire stay on Dagobah trying to tell Luke that he KNOWS this bitch Yoda.
6. “Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.” But “Only a Sith deals in Absolutes.” SO WHICH IS IT?!
7. Luke throws in the towel on bringing the ship back up. Anakin woulda stood there until he either brought that ship up or fucking died trying, and those are the fundamental differences between their characters.
8. Shut up, Anakin.
9. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are both disgustingly pretty in this movie.
10. Yoda continues to be vague and not very helpful about Skywalkers and Force visions.
11. I ship Han with Leia, Luke and Lando in this movie. He has chemistry with all of them in this movie that reads like he has slept with each of them at some point, and I’m kinda here for it.
12. “I don’t want to lose you to the Emperor the way I lost Vader.” THIS IS A LOADED SENTENCE. I feel bad for Obi-Wan, but also, Obi-Wan is the one who left Anakin on Mustafar and decided not to take him with him, or kill him outright.
13. “No. There is another.” Is he talking about Leia or Rey? I guess at the time Yoda was talking about the unnamed sister George Lucas was going to have Luke go looking for, before deciding that Leia would be said sister.
14. Leia’s Force sense tingles on Bespin when she paces their rooms, going “I DON’T LIKE THIS.” And she’s fuckin right.
15.
Tumblr media
16. DINNER WITH THE FAMILY! “We would be honored if you would join us.”
16 B. Shut up Anakin. You don’t even talk that way.
17. Han’s torture scene, I’m relatively certain, was my first introduction to whump and hurt/comfort. So there you go. I am very basic.
18. I shipped Han and Leia so, so very hard as a kid, and it was mostly because of the carbonite scene. And then...when Han gets frozen...his face is so god damned stupid. I can’t deal with how dumb he looks.
19. I had a friend in school who didn’t like Star Wars, but knew I did. And so every chance she got, she would tell me that Han was stupid. As a wee one, I was very upset and offended by this. As an adult, I realize that she’s totally right, but I love that grumpy himbo fuck anyways.
20. I love that there are weird, gross Dagobah stains on Luke’s flight suit.
21. Leia grabbing the door frame to tell Luke it’s a trap is such sister energy and I love it.
22. Mind fuck: Anakin dueling his own son, who is using his old lightsaber. Like. Can we talk about how twisted up Anakin had to be to go through with this fight against the child he so desperately wanted? God dammit, Anakin. Stop it.
23. lol Leia just standing there, letting Chewie choke out Lando is 1. Such a mood. and 2. Such an Anakin move. She is her father’s daughter.
24. If Anakin knew Luke had been hanging out with Yoda, he woulda shit bricks.
25. It is amazing to watch the hero of the story lose this fight. Because he loses really, really badly, and I feel like that’s not something we see much of in these big budget action films. At least not to this extent.
26. 3P0′s “Wonderful!” was used in a lot of commercials for the trilogy when it was televised. It will be embedded in my brain forever.
27. Luke gets his hand lopped off in the same manner Anakin lost his arm is such...ugh. It’s another moment that Anakin could have recognized as being a sign that he should stop.
27 B. I wanted to have a mech hand as a kid. I thought it was cool as hell to get maimed by a lightsaber. Please don’t judge me. I was 11.
28. “I am your father.” It’s this enormous moment. One that Anakin squanders on the Dark Side.
29. Luke would rather die than join the Dark Side. Anakin once felt that same way. Damn.
30. Luke reaching out to Leia is another huge moment, where we get the feeling that there might be more to her than we’ve been told so far. Which I love. She is the only main female character in the entire trilogy, and she’s given so much to do. Princess, Rebellion Leader. And now...maybe a Force sensitive! Woo! I also love the imagery of her sitting in the pilot’s seat on the Falcon.
31. I love that Han and Lando are so similar. “It’s not my faukt!”
32. “Ben. Why didn’t you tell me.” Because the Jedi lie about all sorts of things because they think it’s for the best. Which...yeah. Maybe they shoulda told Luke that one sooner.
33. Shut up, Anakin.
34. LOL Lando changed into Han’s clothes.
35. Every movie that isn’t the Prequels has a disturbing lack of Padme mentions and allusions and I hate it. I hate that George didn’t even think about who their mother was until he absolutely had to. I hate that her shadow doesn’t loom like it should.
35 B. It hsould fuckin’ loom.

Easily Corruptible
Request: Hi!! I was wondering if I could give you a request? It could be like reader and Anakin are on a mission and he acts like he hates her when really he has feeling for her. Anyway get into some trouble and have to hide in a really small closet together like chest to chest, legs between legs. The whole time the reader is apologizing and trying to stay still because of how close they are, like very move they make causes friction. Also if you could make it smutty that would be amazing!!💕. Requested by anon.
A/N: I don’t do smut, but it’s kinda implied.
Word Count: 1530.
You and Anakin were the exact opposite. You were the perfect padawan that obeys orders without questions asked. The Jedi Council liked and trusted you completely. Anakin, on the other hand, was a rebel. He questioned everything and disobeyed orders. Even though he was the chosen one, the council didn’t trust him completely, nur were they happy with his actions. Sometimes, they were even disappointed in him. That sparked jealousy in the two of you. For you, it was because he was the chosen one and no matter how hard you try and train, he’ll always be better than you. Not to mention, he’s the best pilot in the galaxy. For him, it was because you were loved, trusted and respected by all Jedis.
He disliked you, or so you thought and he didn’t even bother to hide it. You’d try to avoid each other when in the Jedi temple. Sometimes, you’d meet in the council when the master’s are discussing missions, but it either ends with the two of you arguing who should go on which mission or totally ignoring one another.
“I’m sorry I’m late” Anakin interrupted the meeting.
You rolled your eyes as you stood next to your master Windu.
“I would like to nominate my padawan Y/n to go on this mission” Windu spoke.
“I was going to suggest my padawan Anakin” Obi-Wan chuckled.
“Hmm… together then they should go” Yoda instructed.
“Agreed” Windu said.
“I don’t mind it either” Obi-Wan added.
“Forgive me master Yoda, I don’t mean to question your wisdom, but I’m sure there must be another solution” you spoke.
“For once, I agree with Y/n. You can’t possibly put us on the same mission together. I can go alone and if not, I’m sure there’s another padawan that can accompany me” Anakin cockly said.
“Anakin” Obi-Wan nudged him “forgive me young padawan! Sometimes, he doesn’t know what he’s saying”.
“No other solution there is. Been decided, it has. Dismissed, the meeting is”.
“Masters” you bowed and exited the room with your master and soon after so did Anakin and Obi-Wan.
Their voices could be heard from afar, specially Anakin’s complaining.
“Master, I’ve never questioned an order before, but are you sure that I should go with Skywalker?”.
“Yes, Y/n. You heard Master Yoda and if he says that you should go together, then there’s a reason for it”.
“Indeed. Then I will trust you decision and Master Yoda’s”.
“I don’t mean to interrupt but I think we should go” you approached Anakin and Obi-Wan.
“That, you should do. May the force be with you” Obi-Wan smiled at you.
“Thank you, Master” you smiled back and walked with Anakin, keeping a big gap between you.
“Just so you know, I’m in charge of this mission” he informed you.
“Uhm, no, you’re not”.
“I am. I’m stronger and a better pilot than you are” he reminded.
“That’s not how it works, Skywalker. The council chose me to accompany you for a reason. I’m starting to see why”.
“Well, do enlighten me”.
“You are impulsive and have a habit of disobeying orders, but I would never do that. I think I’ve been sent on this mission to keep you in check”.
“You wish”.
“You think they suspected anything?” Obi-Wan asked Windu.
“Not Y/n. She had doubts, but not enough to question them”.
“Good! If Master Yoda is correct, which he always is, then they shall let go of their jealousy and start to see each other as allies and friends”.
“We shall see”.
—-
Anakin was having fun speeding, while you were trying your best not to sound scared or annoyed.
“Are you afraid, Y/n?” He smirked.
“No”.
“I can sense what you’re feeling. Are you sure you don’t want me to slow down?”.
“Can you like not talk till we arrive or better yet, ever?”.
He smirked and flew even faster. When you arrived, it took you a moment to gather your strength after all that Anakin did with the ship.
“Just don’t throw up inside. I’m not cleaning up after you” he teased.
“It’s okay, Y/n. Breathe in, breathe out” you muttered to yourself to calm yourself down.
As you were getting the information the council needed, you heard some clones coming your way. Anakin lit his lightsaber and was ready to fight them.
“No! We should hide” you suggested.
“I’m not a coward. We should fight” he refused.
“Do you really want to kill them all?”.
“They would’ve deserved it”.
“Can you just for once do as you’re told!” You pressed your hands.
“But where’s the fun in that?” He grinned.
“Skywalker, do not let me drag you into that closet!” You said calmly.
“I can see that you are struggling with anger issues. I can assure you that you will lose if you decide to fight me”.
“What would it take for you to get into that closet and not kill those people?”.
“Hmm...nothing”.
“Fine. Then, I will report you to the council and tell them that you killed those people when there was another way to spare us the bloodshed”.
“You are no fun. Lead the way, but I’m telling you, if they open that closet, I am going to attack” he warned.
“Deal”.
The closet was very small and dark. The only light was coming from the room. You went in first and Anakin followed, closing the door, it made the space you had even smaller.
He had to lean on you, since there was no place. Being shorter than he is, made your hair be in his face, making it difficult for him to see or breathe easily.
“I’m sorry” you tried to adjust your position.
“You should be. If we followed my plan, we wouldn’t be in this miserable position”.
“I will evade bloodshed at all costs”.
“You’re too soft. Less bloodshed isn’t always the answer”.
“I’m starting to question if you’re a Jedi”.
“What is that supposed to mean?”.
“I can sense the darkness inside of you, Skywalker”.
“And you’re an expert now?”.
“Oh, just shut up!” You grew tired of arguing with him.
For some reason, you thought that if you turned your back to him, it’ll make things better.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Adjusting the way I’m standing” you wanted to be able to look straight instead of lowering your head, so that you won’t have skin to skin contact.
“Now, I have more hair in my face” he complained.
“I’m sorry, what am I supposed to do?”.
“Why did you turn your back on me?”.
“I thought this would be more comfortable”.
“For you or for me?”.
“Both of us”.
“Well, this isn’t very comfortable to me” he complained again.
“I can’t do anything about it now, can I?” You took a deep breath and exhaled.
“You know this isn’t going to help, right?” He whispered at the back of your ear, making the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
“What should I do then?” You rolled your eyes.
“You can turn around and face me” he muttered.
“Why?”.
“So, I could see the look on your face”.
The air got hotter and hotter and you started sweating.
“What look? What are you talking about?” You turned your head to the side so you could see him.
“That look. You can’t deny it” he grinned as he touched your face.
Tumblr media
“What do you want Anakin?” You turned to fully face him, looking up.
“I believe that’s the first time you used my first name”.
“So?”.
“Nothing… I can hear your heart beating” he informed you.
“It’s a small room”.
“I can feel it against my chest”.
“I apologize”.
“Don’t!” He traced the outline of your lips with his fingers.
“They’re gone. We can go out now” you turned your face towards the door but he returned it to him.
“Why are you running away from me?”.
“I am not”.
“I know what you’re feeling”.
“You can’t use the force for everything”.
“But I can” he removed a strand of hair that was blocking your view.
“Why are you doing this?” You asked almost out of breath.
“Doing what?” He pretended to not know what you’re talking about.
“You know what”.
“I don’t”.
“I can sense it. I have the force, too”.
“Who knew you were so easily corruptible”.
“I thought you disliked me”.
“Well,... I like you so much that I hate the feeling” he admitted.
“That doesn’t make any sense”.
“It’s not complicated. I love you and I dislike you for making me have those feelings”.
“It’s not like I forced you. Wait- did you say you love-“.
“For once, don’t argue with me” he pressed his lips to yours and lifted you up. Your legs wrapped around his torso as he slammed your body against the wooden wall of the closet.
“Wait, it’s dark in here” you broke the kiss.
“Don’t worry about it, he lit both of your lightsabers.
“You’re playing a dangerous game, Anakin” you smiled.
“You’re playing with me, so I have no fear” he started kissing your neck and left marks as he went lower.

About the supposed “dig  at Rey” in the Mandalorian finale.
So a lot of people have taken to YouTube and social media, saying that Luke’s line about “talent without training (being) nothing” is a dig at Rey “bEcAuSe ShE’s A mArY sUe who’s good at everything and never trained!!”
No.
Quick recap: The Mandalorian is created by Jon Favreau, and he develops it with Dave Filoni (who created The Clone Wars with George Lucas, invented Ahsoka Tano, and created Star Wars: Rebels), among others.
As far as Dave is concerned, Rey is no different than Ahsoka, she’s not “OP”, she’s not a “Mary Sue”. He’s all for strong, independent, female characters.
He talked about this at the National Center for Women & Information Technology, you can find his full speech here. If you want to see the extracts specifically about Rey and female character in Star Wars, you can find it here (though I’d advise just ignoring the intentionally-triggering title and seeing the video for what it is).
All the backlash he saw about Rey? He saw it for Ahsoka too.
“Oh, she’s fighting Grievous and she’s only, like 13?! That’s so OP!”
“She feels like a Mary Sue written for a prequel based fan fiction.”
“Oh, she disobeyed an order from Yularen on Ryloth?! She’s so snippy!”
“Ugh, I hate her and her stupid voice!”
“She’s always pointing out stuff other characters have missed, like she’s so perfect! She's a Mary Sue with an annoying voice and personality.”
And honestly? I remember that period. People hated Ashley Eckstein and Ahsoka, just like they hated Hayden Christensen, and most Prequel-related content.
So no, that line is not a dig at Rey. If you expect that to ever come from Dave, big chance you’ll be disappointed. He is all for Rey, as a character (as am I, tbh). There may be issues with how she’s written, but none of it is related to her being too strong, or her being good at everything. Guess what? Captain America and Goku are good at everything too.
What The Mandalorian tackles, with that line, is a debate with bigger implications than just Grogu.
We get two sides of the same debate, from both Ahsoka, and Luke.
Tumblr media
“I cannot train him. His attachment to you makes him vulnerable to his fears. His anger. I’ve seen what such feelings can do to a fully trained Jedi Knight. To the best of us. I will not start this child down that path. Better to let his abilities fade.”
Tumblr media
“He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing. I will give my life to protect the Child… but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities.“
The subject they really subliminally tackle is:
Should Anakin Skywalker have been trained to be a Jedi?
Tumblr media
On the one hand:
Anakin has the potential of being the most powerful Force-user in galactic history, as the Jedi know it. It’s just a matter of time before he accidentally Force chokes someone in a fit of anger, or when submitted to extreme stress. He needs to be trained to hone his skills so he’s not a danger to himself and others.
Jedi Training would also help him get over the trauma of growing up as a slave on Tatooine, as it is aimed at keeping your emotions under control, whereas Anakin isn’t even acknowledging their existence (he pretends he’s not afraid in front of the Jedi Council, and seems to be the only person in the room to think that he should hide his fears). His hidden fears, his anger… Jedi Training would teach him to confront them.
Also, there’s a big chance the Sith are back! If they let this kid just go out into the wild, who knows, maybe the Sith Lords pick him up and make him one of their own. Better to keep the boy close.
Anakin is a good boy, raised by a loving mother, with a kind heart. If anything, he’s got the drive to do good as strong as that of any Jedi’s. Him being down-to-earth more than your average Jedi can potentially make him the best out of all of them. He could bridge the distance between the Jedi and the Senate, he could lead the Jedi into a new age. If anyone could be the next, better and improved Yoda, it’s Anakin Skywalker.
On the other hand:
Jedi training is for Jedi only. AKA, it’s perfect if you’re raised in the temple at a very young age to be a diplomat/wizard who upholds the values of the Republic, in control of your emotions and in Balance with the Force. But if you’re not? Then the strict rules of the Jedi Order will basically seem like an insurmountable (bordering on unreasonable) obstacle.
Any normal person will see these rules as attempting to turn you into a sociopath. Because if you’re a normal person, they might. For all intents and purposes, Anakin is a super-powerful normal person. If they take Anakin in, 10 years old, with the attachments he’s formed (his mother), the emotions he represses, the trauma from his upbringing - all of which, in a normal person, are totally fine and common - and try to force him in a mold he just won’t fit in, that’s just a recipe for disaster.
Of all people, Qui-Gon Jinn - Mister “I’m always right because I follow the Will of the Force and you don’t” - who is not the most forthcoming of people, as opposed to Obi-Wan, is insisting that he should train the boy. You give a chaotic Master a chaotic Padawan? That’s adding extra ingredients to the recipe for disaster.
The BEST thing to do would be Qui-Gon leaving the Order with Anakin, and raising Anakin as his surrogate son, teaching him his values, rather than training him as a Padawan and teaching him the values of the Jedi (which he’s too old for and which essentially make the Jedi the Senate’s lapdogs). But Qui-Gon’s insisting that he train him as a Jedi.
Anakin’s mind is too fragile as it is. If they add the stress of being a Jedi to that too, there’s a big chance he won’t be able to take it, and bring about the destruction of everything they are, stand for and care about.
And, to be honest? Both points are fair.
Because Anakin was both…
Tumblr media
… the best of them…
Tumblr media
… and their destructor.
But then, should Grogu be trained?
In my (and Luke’s) opinion? Yes.
Ahsoka’s logic makes sense… but it only applies to how things were before, back when the Jedi served the Republic as Force-sensitive diplomats/ambassadors, making decisions that impacted whole planets and their billions of inhabitants, keeping the peace through mediation, and occasionally investigating a crime.
But in Grogu’s case… things are a bit different.
The Republic is gone.
The Jedi’s mission of upholding its values seems to be gone with it.
So literally any surviving Jedi, has a new mission: just help people.
Be it Ezra & Kanan helping the Rebellion during the Dark Times.
Or Cal Kestis, saving the Force-sensitive children.
Or Ahsoka, helping the village of Calodan, after the fall of the Empire.
Or Luke, literally being a space-vagabond/Jedi archeologist for 10 years and helping out wherever and whoever he can.
Tumblr media
The Jedi no longer have to deal with planet-sized problems, or mediations, or investigations, because the New Republic hasn’t included them in its government, seeing as they have their rangers, now.
So now, the pressure of “upholding the Republic’s values” and “going on missions which impact billions of lives” is gone.
Now, the Jedi operate at a smaller scale and just help people out. As they did, before they became Republic officials.
Sure, they still keep their emotions in control, but that’s simply for the sake of living a healthy life, rather than for the sake of objectiveness and diplomacy.
In these circumstances? It’s totally fine for Grogu to be trained, as he should be.
The line was about the fact that training Grogu to hone his skills is fine, and should be done, before he becomes a danger to everyone around him.

Not special, a little Star Wars fic
Hey @jubblesbubbles, remember when you told me I should write a Dex/Obi-Wan, when I was doing the extra rair pairing writing stuff? And I didn’t write it, because there already are Dex/Obi-Wan stories, it wasn’t inexistant?
It’s very very light on romance to be honest I’m not happy with it, but Padme invited herself and then refused to leave!
Also, I totally forgot you wanted Rebellion in this and I killed Palpy, my bad.
Not all loves are planet-burning fires. Not all love are life-changing, taking everything else with them when finished.
Not all love can push someone to burn the Republic down and to put a hand in genocide, just to be sure a certain Senator who may or may not die in childbirth wouldn’t.
Or perhaps, simply, a love for which you would murder children, change good men into automaton and destroy democracy was not really a love, simply a twisted, gnarled thing.
Anakin Skywalker was more in love with the idea of Padme Amidala than with Padme herself, and as the world is slowly rebuilding itself, it’s a hard pill to swallow for poor Padme. She is very, very, very aware of what a close call it was.
Hundreds of Jedi are dead, a lot of clones put a blaster in their mouths once they were free of the chip, the entire political system will have to be remade from scratch to be sure nothing like Palpatine rise to power is possible again, and the consequences of the war pushed billions of people into exile, poverty and other horrors.
Padme herself is facing the possibility of jail-time: stripped of her rank, she’s in deep trouble on Naboo, between the people thinking she was in collusion with Palpatine, the people thinking she was too busy frolicking around with her Jedi to do her job and stop Palpatine, the people thinking she was in collusion with Anakin herself…. Her friends are throwing their weight around trying to help, and her parents found her a very good lawyer, but she will be happy if she escape that only with community service. She probably will have to thank the Jedi in general for that, who refused the numerous solicitations from the throne of Naboo to pursue Padme from marrying Anakin when he was a minor, and Obi-Wan in particular, who bore witness of Anakin’s attack of Padme and stood firm in his defence of the young woman.
It’s making Padme deeply uncomfortable. She thinks of Obi-Wan as a friend, a friend she lied to for years, again and again, and who saved her life on Mustafar when he killed Anakin, while Master Yoda saved the Republic when he killed Palpatine.
He even found her a place to stay, when she didn’t want to stay with any of her political friends, not ready to burn their careers by her simple contact as she had burned her own, and didn’t want to go back to Naboo.
It’s a very small apartment, right above a dinner, in a part of Coruscant she never would have visited when she was a Senator. The diner’s owner is male Besalik, who cooks in the dinner and live in the other small apartment above the dinner. He’s very friendly, always ready to babysit the twin when she has an errand to run.
He’s also the lover of Obi-Wan, who she sometimes meet in the stairs late in the night or very early in the morning. He always look drained when he arrives: Yoda succumbed to his wounds after the fight with Sidious and there are not enough Jedi left, all of them, the survivors of the few days Order 66 was implemented, exhausted, working themselves to the bone, trying to heal a galaxy which in their time of need didn’t come to their help. Trying to rebuild for people who let them, with a few exceptions like Bail Organa, be gunned down.
She wanted to tear the Jedi Master’s eyes out, in the beginning. If he had told Anakin…how dare he, when Anakin was dead, worse than dead, dead and his name spat on all across the galaxy.
One day, as she is thanking Dex for another afternoon of kid-sitting, it’s the Besalik who address the issue.
“Anakin knew.”
“But-He would have told me!”
“Told you what? That his former Master had a lover? Someone Obi-Wan would leave for months, years, if necessary, to do his duty.” The Besalik had sadly shaken his massive head.
“Anakin never thought Obi-Wan loved me. It didn’t count, in his eyes.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m not a pretty young woman like you? Because Obi-Wan would let me die if he had a choice between me and an innocent life? Because Obi-Wan will only give me the morsels he can, and keep his duty in his heart? Who knew what Anakin thought? He saw Obi-Wan wouldn’t break every rule for me, would love me without keeping me, and for Anakin, it wasn’t love. Not burning enough. Not big enough. Obi-Wan loves me as Jedi should, without possessing, and for Anakin, that’s not love. ”
He pats her shoulder, his hand dwarfing it.
“You have two tadpoles, now. You can’t stay thinking of what was, what could have been.”
“You sound like Master Yoda.”
She bit her lips. For years, she had nodded and believed Anakin when the younger man presented Yoda as an obstacle to overcome. Now that the little Jedi had died saving what could be, she felt guilty, and angry, and quite possibly very lost.
“It’s not good for you, to stay in your apartment reviewing your case and thinking of the past,” he continued, “and I won’t advise you to meditate, like Obi-Wan probably would if you stopped evading each other like two tookas who share the same territory but are not ready to fight it out.”
“What will you advice, then?”
“Come to the dinner. I can’t offer a big salary, just an honest one. It won’t change the world, but people will be feed and it will give you a stepping stone to rebuild. Probably won’t buy a Naboo pretty palace with it, but you will feed your kids with your own money, not something from Senator Amidala than the Naboo Queen can freeze or seize, with the trial, or something that your family give you. And the people…It’s good, to see people happy after a good meal.”
He shrugs, and it’s like an earthquake on his abundant flesh.
She takes the job.
Years later, after Obi-Wan has been killed on mission, Dex retires to his home world and leave the dinner to Padme. She looks around, suddenly realizing how many years have passed.
And they were peaceful and not at all an encompassing fire of burning passion, and her children are happy and, more or less, well-adjusted. Not the powerful people Anakin would have wanted them to be, capable of changing the galaxy, just a professor in the lower levels, working in one of the programmes against illiteracy created by Chancellor Organa, for Luke, and a cargo pilot for Leia.
It’s not special.
Anakin would hate that.
Padme shrugs and go back to the ledgers of the dinner.

The Tragedy of “The Wrong Jedi”
The first time I watched the Jedi Temple bombing arc in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I was kind of uncomfortable with how it played out. I felt like it misrepresented how the Jedi Council would have handled the situation, that Anakin was going too far and uncomfortably close to the Dark Side, and that Ventress was handled strangely. But after reading a whole bunch of posts by tumblr user gffa and others about how the Jedi didn’t handle it too terribly, I’ve had to rethink my view. Thinking about it more, it’s definitely even more tragic than I realized.
I’ve got a lot to say (seriously, a massive wall of text) and, even though this is a really old show, I might as well put spoilers under the cut.
Okay, first of all: Ahsoka might not have been found innocent if she stayed in jail, but I bet she would. Barriss knocked out the guards and left Ahsoka a keycard to break out of her jail cell. As soon as she used it to break out, Ahsoka fell into the trap. If she’d just sat in the cell, eventually order would have been restored in the prison, and there would have been some sort of evidence that someone else was trying to frame her. Unless Barriss managed to spin it so it looked like Ahsoka broke out, killed some clones, and then returned to her jail cell? Seems unlikely. The genius of the trap was that breaking her out was exactly the sort of rule-breaking she’d expect Anakin to do, so I can’t blame her for falling for it.
Actually, taking a step back, the frame-job only worked because Ahsoka was an impulsive Padawan. I tried imagining how other Jedi would have reacted, and a few of them would have ended up much better. Anakin probably would have been screwed too, but a lot of more-experienced Jedi would have just begun meditating calmly in the cell and been able to follow the promptings of the Force to end up with a better outcome. In particular, Obi-Wan probably would have laughed about the key card and managed to talk his way to some sort of advantage with the clones who came to investigate. (And, of course, someone like Yoda might have just sensed Barriss like Tarkin said Ahsoka should have been able to.) None of this is Ahsoka’s fault, of course--she’s a great Jedi; she’s just in training still, and not the calmest.
Moving on, the Jedi Council expelling Ahsoka *really* bothered me, and I don’t think that’s an uncommon opinion. Other people (gffa, again) have talked at length about how they were under great pressure from the Senate, and so it wasn’t entirely their fault, but I still thought it was a terrible, if understandable, decision. They brought that the Senate was concerned they wouldn’t be impartial, but I thought, “Let the Senate be concerned. The Council *know* they’re impartial, so if Padawan Tano is guilty, they’ll find her guilty and punish her. Which, of course, is what the Senate wants. And if she’s innocent, they should support her no matter the political consequences.” But then I realized that the evidence against her was so strong at that point that the Council was probably assuming any trial would find her guilty, and the only real point of contention would be the punishment. The Jedi would probably decide on a punishment that wasn’t strong enough for the Senate’s liking. So instead, they decided that expelling her from the order *was* their punishment. It’s my opinion that this was either discussed in offscreen Council deliberations or just understood by the Councilmembers, who’ve worked together for a long time. The episode probably just didn’t make this explicitly clear because we’re intended to emotionally be on Ahsoka’s side, feeling betrayed like her, and only figure out the larger implications later with more thought and analysis. If this is true, it totally worked on me. You could definitely make a good argument that they still should have made a stand, but with public opinion and the opinion of the Senate turning against them, they had to pick and choose their battles.
                                                     THE TRIAL
The real thing that convinced me to write this post was the emotions and framing of the end of the trial, when Anakin brings Barriss forth and gets her to confess. The whole trial makes masterful use of oppositions. First, Tarkin and Padme are prosecutor and defender. They literally enter from opposite sides. Symbolically, since we know these characters, this is Grand Moff Tarkin supporting his vision of punitive control (he calls for the death penalty!) versus Senator Padme Amidala, supporting the rights and freedoms of an innocent. The symbolism and conservation of characters is nice enough that I can overlook how stupid it is that an Admiral and a Senator are the ones arguing this case or that the Chancellor of the Republic is also overseeing a trial. (Also, a Jedi accused of sedition is a BIG DEAL.)
Palpatine, of course, gives a grand speech about how Separatists have fooled the Republic before, laying on the irony as thick as he can as he accuses Ahsoka of being part of a plot to tear the Jedi Order apart. There’s an interesting interaction when Anakin breaks his stride right before he declares Ahsoka guilty, and I imagine he was torn between annoyance and his desire to have Anakin like him. And then when Barriss starts her big speech about how the Jedi have lost their way, he must be thrilled that these sentiments are getting such traction among the populace that even a Jedi espouses them and gets such a public stage to proclaim them.
Because--and this is the important part--Barriss is WRONG. - “The Jedi are the ones responsible for this war.” -- INCORRECT - “We have so lost our way that we have become villains in this conflict.”--INCORRECT. One thing that bothered me is that so much of the anti-Jedi argument is that they’re killers, but we almost always see them fighting droids. This is the most bloodless war ever, even assuming there’s a ton of offscreen collateral damage. ONSCREEN we see the Jedi avoiding collateral damage as much as possible. - “We are the ones that should be put on trial; all of us.”--No, literally just Barriss should be put on trial, for her senseless crimes. - “My attack on the Temple was an attack on what the Jedi have become--an army fighting for the dark side.”-- Incorrect on two counts. Others have explained how the Jedi are CLEARLY the good guys in this show, and more than that, her attack on the Temple was pointless murder that failed to even make a clear statement. She killed Jedi, non-Jedi workers, and clones, so I guess she was just symbolically opposing the war effort, but considering she had to explain herself before anyone guessed her motives, I don’t think she did a very good job.
Once you accept that Barriss is wrong, this becomes extremely tragic. - Anakin’s clearly struggled with the dark side over this whole arc, but he hasn’t Fallen. He’s still firmly a Jedi, firmly rooted in the Light. He lets Ventress go when he realizes she’s not responsible (which may have been a bad decision ethically, but it was probably better than just killing her), tries talking calmly to Barriss first, and sees justice done. He works within the system by making sure Ahsoka is arrested. - The music is just SO GOOD. When I was believing Barriss, the dark, dramatic music just made me more uncomfortable (”ahh, the bad guy is right?!”), but now it’s just sad. - This trial has been taking place in a Senate courtroom with the Imperial logo prominently displayed on the wall, Tarkin prosecuting, and the future Emperor presiding. But when justice is truly served, it’s by Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight opposing Palpatine, and four Jedi Guardians escorting a prisoner. And...look, in terms of iconography, those guys are awesome enough to challenge all the Imperial paraphernalia, with their masks, armor, and special yellow lightsabers. Seriously, I’m surprised over the strength of the feelings I’m having about the clash of icons here. The failing Republic/future Empire is about to perpetrate a great injustice, but in march the traditional guards of an ancient peacekeeping order in full dramatic procession to bring true justice.
Barriss and everyone else taken in by anti-Jedi propaganda fail to realize that the Jedi aren’t the cause of the problem--they’re just a bandage struggling to help people like Padme hold a failing Republic together as crime syndicates, the Sith, and more base forms of evil such as corruption tear it apart.
I’ve written waaaay too much already, so I won’t talk about it too much, but Ahsoka’s arc in season 7 supports my thoughts. Basically, that arc starts with her realizing how the common people often have at least semi-legitimate reasons to dislike the Jedi, and it ends with her realizing that she’s been acting like a Jedi the whole time (and the one hostile Martinez sister realizing that since Ahsoka’s basically a Jedi, she’s been judging the Jedi too harshly).

Of course the Jedi failed Anakin, what are you even talking about ? Don’t get me wrong, if Palpatine didn’t manipulated Anakin, or if he had been slightly less good at it, Anakin wouldn’t have turned to the dark side. Anakin is totally a victim of Palpatine and of his own failure. But. That doesn’t mean the Jedi didn’t fail him. They failed him, failing to manage and raised a 9 yo boy, just freed from slavery while his mother stayed behind. They could have done something for her, and tell Anakin she was therefor alright and he didn’t have to worry about her. They failed at communicating very basic things about their faith and their dogma. When Yoda tested Anakin, he might not have meant it like fear is bad, but that’s totally what he did say, implying it leads to the dark side. And when Anakin told him about his fear of losing someone, Yoda told him to let go... What Anakin hear is that he should not care the person he fear losing die. And even if he understand that he should just accept to lose someone he hold dear, because he can’t prevent it, he is clearly not ready to accept that. And then, after basically the whole war, and the disaster of how they treated his padawan when she was accused of terrorism, and her depart from the temple, they put him in an awkward position of sitting to the council without giving him the title of master and ask him to spy on one of the person he trust the most. How is it not failing him?
There is a lot of offscreen time where thing could have been rounded up but if we don’t see it it might as well not exist. Because it is fiction, and this would be an important part of Anakin’s journey.
Yes Anakin did terrible things by his own choice and will. Yes, Palpatine was the ultimate culprit of Anakin’s fall to the dark side. It doesn’t mean the Jedi didn’t do a bad job taking care of Anakin. And it was their responsibility to do so. They didn’t only failed Anakin though. A lot of Jedi suffered of things the temple could have handled better. They failed the galaxy in taking the commandment of a clone army. They failed many systems which wanted out of the republic or stay neutral and were forced to chose to ally themselves to the separatist. They failed to protect democracy, but that was already the case when the naboo crisis happened. And I’m not talking about the crisis itself, but it’s clear democracy isn’t working well at this point. They failed to do anything about the slaves of Tatooine. They failed even the people living in the lower levels of Coruscant. They didn’t, as far as we know, tried to fight against a clearly unjust system favoring the rich at the expense of the poor. Or if they did, it was in a very punctual, localized way. They were complacent. Admitedly, Padme and Leia did more to fight against the system than the Jedi did. They failed too, but it’s hardly their fault. Well, Leia at least was no small part of maintaining the rebellion which brought down the Empire. The Jedi had a lot more means and occasion to do something. And time. They were trying to do the good things. There intentions were good. They failed. And they were failing even before Palpatine became chancellor. They should have involved themselves more into politics. This is how Palpatine took control. If they were more present in the senate, they would have been able to do something about it. Yes they were victims. But it was their whole deal to protect democracy and peace in the galaxy. And they failed.

I think that there’s something that people tend to forget about the Jedi: there are only 10,000 of them and that’s at the start of the war.
I agree with the sentiment that the Jedi have stagnated (the low numbers) and that the war has forced them to undermine what they were originally intended to do. However, that is the whole tragedy of the situation. The Jedi are conscripted as generals in a war that they didn’t want to happen and both the people and the Jedi are suffering for it.
The people on the republic and the fandom unreasonably expect the Jedi to be able to fix every problem in the galaxy. However, there are thousands of worlds in the republic (probably more) and the fact of the matter is that there are only so many Jedi. By season 7 of the clone wars, the Jedi numbers are at an all time low, the fact of the matter is that they physically cannot help everyone. Content that shows Jedi before CW shows that they did have people in the slave rings, in Coruscant on corrupt planets, trying to fix the galaxy, but they only have so much power.
People expect the Jedi to be able to do everything, call them power hungry and child snatchers and stuck up. (Although, I will conced that there are some Jedi who are stuck up and too removed from the people to be able to truly relate to them, which is, I think, one of the two main issues with the Jedi Order we see in the CW).
However, the Jedi we see are at their most powerless. The corruption in the senate and the political machinations of palpatine mean that they are more enslaved to the senate than ever. Though some people may view them as such, the Jedi are not gods, they cannot perform miracles. In fact; how can you call the Jedi power hungry when it is their inherent lack of power and influence within the senate that had them in this situation. We see how much power they have lost between TPM and CW, where Qui-Gon could be sent on a mission with just a personal request from a politician (the chancellor at the time was the one that asked them to go to the aide Naboo because the Senate would not vote to help them. And at the time, the chancellor didn’t have nearly as much power as palpatine does. The republic was at piece and the chancellor mostly acted as a mediator for the senate rather than the almost absolute ruler palps is by CW). Now the Jedi are forced to do what the senate says, and because of this position that they were sourced into, even their own internal matters are often brought before the senate.
This isn’t even counting the fact that Sidious is literally clouding the Force. It is stated multiple times in the movies and in the shows as well as having been outright told to us by Lucas the Palps is using a very powerful force technique which basically fucks up the Jedi’s ability to use the Force to sense deception and find the truth. (See the million times Yoda or some other master says the Force is clouded.)
I agree that the Jedi Order should have taken the threat of the Sith far more seriously than they did after TPM. However, there also hadn’t been a Sith on their radar for one thousand years. Yoda, the oldest Jedi, had never seen a Sith. It is understandable that the Jedi would try and deny their resurgence, since it’s natural that they would not want that to happen. This is a failure of the Jedi Order. In this case, they react out of fear which definitely contributes to their later downfall.
However, Palps gives no indication to people that he is anything other than a (possibly corrupt) politician. The Jedi can’t sense him and they would have no reason to think he’s a Sith Lord. They can sense that Dooku is a Sith, they could sense that Maul is a darksider. There is no reason that the Jedi should think that there is a Sith that can completely mask his darkness because they have never encountered someone like that before.
As for the baby snatchers, I mean come on, seriously? In the CW, there is literally an episode which shows that the Jedi do encourage people to hand their children over, but by no reason force them. Anakin was an unprecedented event and the Council would actually have preferred that Anakin grow up with his mother (although they did address the whole Shmi situation incredibly wrong, they should have freed her. However, that then feeds into the fact that they would then be morally obligated to free all the slaves on Tattooine which would mean taking on the Hutts, which the Jedi did not have the resources to do.) if the Jedi were baby snatchers, there would not only be 10,000 of them. They would steal any child that had any semblance of force power, as we know that with enough dedication and training even someone who has average raw power can become very skilled and powerful (Obi-Wan being the best example).
Again I want to emphasise how few Jedi there were. That is 10,000 total. Not 10,000 knights and masters , 10,000 including all the Padawans and younglings and masters so old they can’t fight anymore. (I don’t know if this includes the corps workers in this but we can assume their number isn’t that much larger). That’s 10,000 across the entire galaxy. To put that into perspective, the Rebellion at the end of the OT had 1 billion people across the galaxy, and they were still reported as a relatively small movement. The Jedi would be a small organisation even if they operated just on modern day Earth. And by this point in the CW, the Jedi have even lower numbers.
Ahsoka’s anger in the latest episode is entirely justified. She was scapegoated for a crime she did not commit. Yes all evidence pointed to her and objectively she could have been charged, but she had sacrificed so much for the Order by that point, she rightfully believes she should have early their trust. (Although, I do think both Plo Koon and Obi-Wan argued for her, but in the absence of evidence were only able to vouch for her from her strength of character, which really doesn’t cut it in that sort of investigation).
Her frustration at the order’s inability to help the people like it had been before the war is reasonable. The Jedi should be helping people like Trace and Rafa, and before the war they would have. Now the Jedi are caught up in trying to stop the Separatists invading and enslaving entire worlds. That whole situation is for another post because this one is way too long already and I haven’t even gotten to my point.
I think Ahsoka’s accusation that the Jedi are too involved in politics (even though her attack at Obi-Wan is also personal because of her thinking that he didn’t try and help her before, which is correct from her perspective. Obi-Wan was obligated to go with the Council’s decision and was powerless to fight i and uggfgh that scene hurts me because my two favourite characters are fighting) is ironic since it was the Jedi’s separation from politics which got them into that situation in the first place. If the Jedi had had a representative in the Senate, or hell, even more people dedicated to monitoring the politics of the Senste, they may have been able to circumvent the war before it even started or at least give themselves a little more agency in this war.
Ahsoka’s argument is ultimately unfair in my opinion even though she is making a very relevant point. The Jedi have, at this stage, stopped functioning in the capacity that they were originally supposed to. However, there is nothing they can do to stop it at this stage.
I think people are forgetting the absolute genius of TCW and that PT in that it is one of the hugest examples of dramatic irony in modern day narratives. Yes, from an outside perspective, I can say that the Jedi were too removed from the people and were failing to uphold their values. I can see that palpatine is manipulating everything and that he is the Sith Lord. However, the thing is the characters can’t. If I was a Jedi, I would be too blinded by this war and keeping my men alive whilst also trying to stop the Separatists to pay attention to the intricacies of the Senate, if I was a citizen, I would see this war and the Jedi leading it and demonise them because they are the most visible people for me to hoist my resentment on. Padmé states that the war is affecting the people. The republic are in debt and their support network for their people is suffering because of it.
Yes, the Jedi should have done a lot of things differently. Yes there are Jedi (particularly some on the council) who are up themselves. But the Order as a whole is not to blame. Jedi as a people are largely just trying to do the right thing. They lead their men because if they don’t the Seperatists will continue to take over worlds and enslave them. They are forced to make impossible decisions and it is destroying them. We see this in Ahsoka’s resentment, we see it in the way Anakin is so desperately trying to hold on to both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, we see it in the absolute defeat that we can see in Obi-Wan in this episode.
Let’s not forget that Sidious is the real bad guy here and that he is a genius at manipulation. By this stage in the CW, the Jedi are powerless to save themselves and the galaxy. We can blame anyone else all we want but ultimately this is a terrible tragedy and the Jedi do not deserve what is about to happen to them.
